As the Ocean Lures Intro Post
Tumblr media
As the Ocean Lures is an interactive novel about being a Merfolk. You will go on hunts, learn more about humans, and perhaps explore the land above.
As the Ocean Lures is a 16+ game with themes that may be triggering to audiences. This includes drowning, murder, death, body horror, dark humor towards death, potential transphobia, and the MC will exhibit sadistic traits with certain choices. This will be updated as the game goes on.
This game is loosely inspired by the Little Mermaid, and has taken inspiration from games like Beyond The Waves and Abysm's Veil.
CHECK OUT THE DEMO HERE!
Tumblr media
Everyone has heard of sirens. Mysterious humanlike beasts who use their powerful singing voice to lure sailors to their untimely death. However, the only thing modern mythology mistaked was the fact that sirens retained bird-like features rather than fish tails.
You, on the other hand, are a Merfolk. As a Merfolk, you maintain most of the qualities often associated with mermaids and "sirens". With your family, you work to bring down sailors using your voice and abilities under the sea.
But do you actually want this fate? Is this what you want for the rest of your life?
It was.
At least, that was what you had always thought.
When you meet a captain who is dead set on showing you everything about the surface, you are quite literally pushed into a whole new world.  And you discover that perhaps the human world...is not as bad as you were told.
But now you have a dilemma. Will you question everything you know? Or will you remain a part of the ocean?
Tumblr media
Customize who you are as a Merfolk, from gender, pronouns, looks and personality.
Helping your family to sink ships full of sailors (or not...)
Watch a captain drown or save them from certain death.
Maintain your relationships with your family—follow what you have been told your whole life or go against everything they have taught you.
Romance one of four characters: your best merfriend, the strange siren who assists your family on their hunts, the human captain you saved(?) or that royal who seems to love spending time by the sea...or no one since being a Merfolk is already hard as it is.
Will you live out of the sea or under the sea? The choice is yours.
Tumblr media
Kai/Kaia (He/him or She/her): The Best Merfriend
Your best...er, merfriend. You have known them your entire life and they remain a constant in your life. K has always been interested in the surface, whether you agreed with them or not. If given an opportunity—any, really—to go on land, they would jump at the chance. Friendly and caring, K is loyal to a fault, never-ending when it comes to you and your family. But is there something underlying your friendship? Guess you'll have to find out.
Echo (They/them): The Siren
Echo is...in short terms, a mystery. They first came to your family's rescue during one of the worst hunts of your life, and has stuck around ever since.  Your mother treats them like her sixth child, though you are sure the sentiment is not reciprocated. Despite knowing Echo for almost eight months, you have yet to learn anything about them beyond their name and pronouns. It seems like they don't want to get attached to you or your family.  They are professional, keeping away from personal questions. Will you be able to break down their walls?
Louis/Eloise (He/him or She/her): The Royal
You don't know much about them, besides knowing they are the heir to the throne of Oceanic. They can sometimes be found standing by the ocean on their private beach, eyes closed as if they are in another world. They address the world with such maturity, garnering them fans across the kingdom. And it certainly helps that they are attractive. Many look forward to the day they take the throne from their father.
Anthony/Anne Maddox (He/him or She/her): The Captain
The captain who you (or someone else) saved from certain death. They once claimed mermaids existed, which brought a reputation that preceded them.  To prove it, they recruited a group of sailors to join them. The day they sailed out was the day you found them, the only survivor. A has a knack for getting into trouble, as well as a sense for adventure. Now knowing you exist, they want to show you the human world. Will you let them?

Just recently discovered your tumbler and I love everything about it. Your art style, the time period you have chosen, the background you are building for the characters. Top notch.
Though I do have a question : going back through all the asks people are tending to focus on sunny boi Vasco supporting nerve wracked Machete but a relationship needs to be equal so, what's the turn around?
When/how does Machete say 'don't worry babe, I've got this'? He is after all a very accomplished and competent person inside his areas of expertise.
Because of his trusting and altruistic nature, Vasco has been burned in relationships before. Even though he's good at reading people and might sense that he's being treated unfairly, he endures it because he doesn't want to be the bad guy and upset the other person. He's from a well known noble family, he's affluent and he's considered to be very good looking. Over the years he has met countless people who wanted to take advantage of him, his status and his assets in a way or another, and he has hard time tolerating that kind of greed and dishonesty. Machete has never been interested in his pedigree or wealth, and the way he's utterly devoted to him makes Vasco feel confident and secure.
He's been forced into various boxes and moulds all his life, his family had high expectations for him and did their hardest to whip him into a shape that satisfied them (now that I think about it, Vasco's parents probably would've been proud if their son turned out more like Machete, hard working high achiever). He tries to not let it bother him, but on some level he does feel guilty for letting them down. Machete is Vasco's biggest fan, he earnestly believes in him and loves him the way he is. He feels like he doesn't have to pretend to be something he's not around him, but at the same time Machete's influence makes him want to be a better person. Vasco admires his ambition, knowledge, diligence and perseverance. Machete tries very hard to be a good person and do a good job, but because he's so difficult to get close to and puts up such a cold facade, his efforts tend to go unnoticed. Vasco sees this side of him and finds it very charming.
Machete could use a lot of tlc and Vasco is happy to be there to provide it. The fact he's able to have such a profound positive effect on someone and their quality of life makes him feel needed, he feels like he's contributing something good to the world and that gives him strength. It's not like his only job is to pat Machete's head and tell it's going to be alright though, they enjoy each other's company and feel at ease together. In a way Machete also has a calming effect on Vasco. On his good days he can be very pleasant company, he's interesting to talk to, he's kind and gentle and even awkwardly funny at times, he has an eye for beauty and is able to appreciate small good things in their lives. He isn't an expert in expressing his affection physically, but when he does, Vasco can trust that his attempts are authentic.
Machete may not always know the correct words and gestures to comfort him, but he's a good listerer and does his best to be there for him. He never belittles or makes fun of him, he's patient and forgiving when Vasco makes mistakes, and will drop everything if he's ever in a need of help. He often makes Vasco feel seen and understood like no one else. Machete is good at solving dilemmas and coming up with working solutions (or preventing problems from ever arising, more often than not), and Vasco has the nerves of steel to keep him grounded and stable at a time of crisis. Together they make a very efficient and resourceful team.
Their jobs are very similar, Machete works for the church and Vasco is a secular politician, but they both deal with diplomacy and foreign relations. They end up working together often, and since Machete is very competent in what he's doing, he often ends up helping and advising Vasco.
I think despite their differences, they're just very well in tune with each other. In the ways that actually matter, they have common interests, tastes and worldviews. They enjoy similar things. And the parts that differ tend to augment them instead of driving them apart. A lot of their fondness stems from the fact they have a lot of shared history, they met at a young age and their friendship-turned-romantic was a very formative experience for both.
Should it be necessary, Machete would face God and walk backwards into hell to protect Vasco.

Friends to lovers Harry styles? I was thinking Harry and the reader have been best friends for years with cute traditions like coffee on certain days or book clubs. Overall they know each other inside out and spend a lot of time together. There’s some tension bc harry is very obviously in love with the reader however she’s the only one who doesn’t see it. Despite the fact she feels the same she’s scared because she doesn’t believe he could feels the same. Maybe it could get a little angsty but with a happy ending pls! Thank you!
thank you very much for the request!! anyone who knows me knows that friends to lovers is my jam, so this was very very fun to write. hope you enjoy <3 (barely proofread so sorry in advance for any mistakes!)
Tumblr media
“Well have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?” Harry suggests as you two sit inside the pillow fort you made, two glasses of wine sitting next to your knees and the sight of your small TV bugging out in front of you.
You pout at your dilemma. It’s been a tradition since you two were kids to have a little quiet movie night in a cozy pillow fort. It’s not the first time your TV has been acting up recently and Harry keeps offering to buy you a new one but you always refuse. He’s too giving, that one. But god, do you admire him for it.
“Tried that before you came, H. S’no use. Time for plan B.” you sigh at go to get up carefully to go retrieve your computer and a stool from your room.
Harry watches you with fond eyes as you go, the sparkle in his eyes that only appears when he’s looking at you evident (to everyone but you, that is). He’s almost a hundred percent sure you’re the most beautiful person he’s ever seen, the hue of your eyes melts him, the brightness of your smile blinds him. You have the softest, most soothing aura he’s ever come across and he just wants to be with you all the time. He’s smiling like an idiot just thinking about you.
“Got the computer. What are we watching?” he jumps a little, startled out of his thoughts when you walk back into your cozy living room. He watches you intently as you calculatedly place the stool in front of the fort and the computer on top of it. He smiles fondly at you when you adjust it at least five times because “it has to be perfect” and opens his mouth to answer your question, “what are we watching?”
You carefully sit right back down next to him and after a small beat of silence you both turn to look at each other at exactly the same time and simultaneously blurt out, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days!”
“Twin flame telepathy back at it again.” he pumps his fist in the air and pulls it back while you giggle.
It doesn’t take long to set up the movie and before you know it, you’re halfway through it, cuddled up into Harry’s side with his arm snug tightly around you. You occasionally look up at him when you see something funny to see if he found it funny too, and he does the same, causing an intense bout of eye contact and laughter.
The warm hues of your fairy lights kiss his skin in a way that makes him almost glow with warmth, the green of his eyes is so intense in this light, it almost takes your breath away. Sometimes you wish time would stop so he could be as still as he is in this moment, and you could just look at him. Just admire how truly beautiful he is. The way his eyelashes flutter when he takes in the brightness of the images forms a small knot in your stomach. You feel your mouth part and it’s only when he looks down at you that you realize your staring might feel a little weird.
“What?” you watch his mouth form the softly spoken word. You don’t say anything so he smiles and tries again, “what?”
“Nothing, just daydreaming.” you reply softly with a small smile.
“Watch the movie, dude.” he scolds you playfully and you roll your eyes.
“Sir, yes sir.”
Tumblr media
“So you think waffles are better than pancakes?” Harry asks one of your mutual friends, Jess incredulously. Jess nods and Harry’s eyes almost bulge out of their sockets. “Are you kidding me? Pancakes are infinitely better than waffles. Who wants their breakfast to have craters in them, Jess? I mean c’mon. Tell them, babe. Pancakes are better.” He motions to you and your eyes widen, not wanting to get in between what is clearly such an important, heated discussion.
“Pancakes.” you finalize with a small laugh. Harry smacks his hand on the table in triumph and points at Jess, who rolls their eyes at his antics. “S’two against one. Can’t beat that. Them’s the rules, toots.”
You’re in a fit of giggles at this point, you’ve always loved the way he talked. He had this dry humor that utilized his unique vocabulary and it never failed to amuse you.
He turns to look at you, scooting closer and slinging his arm around your shoulder. “Can always count on you can’t I, honey?” he smirks and shrugs you closer to him to press a messy kiss on the side of your head.
You shudder violently and your hand immediately shoots up to wipe at your head, “ew, Harry!” you whine and he throws his head back to laugh.
Everyone is just staring at the two of you fondly, your bond is something unmatched. The pure passion that you two display when you look at each other is unlike anything most of your friends have seen before. Everyone can see the sparkle in his eyes when he looks at you. It’s lost on them how you can’t. They just wish you two would finally man up and come to terms with it.
He leans down way too close to your ear, his lips oh so faintly brushing against your skin, the laughter ceases almost immediately and it feels like time just stops.
“You know you love me, sweet girl.”
It takes everything in you not to let your body melt into his and flutter your eyes shut at the closeness and warmth of his touch. Even the faintest touch makes you nearly lose yourself, you can’t imagine what a real touch would do to you.
You pull yourself together enough to respond, “yes, yes unfortunately I do. Freaking man child.”
He laughs again and just hugs you closer.
Tumblr media
H: Sweetheaaart. Where could you possibly be other than with me?
H: That rhymed.
H: Gonna pretend that it was intentional.
You: Lol you’ve got the wrong day, H. We’re meeting tomorrow x
H: Yes but I still would looovee to see you today.
You: I’ve got plaaans.
H: Spill.
Harry bites his lip nervously as he sends the message. He’s been talking to some mutual friends of yours and they’ve had the bright idea to set you up with someone this week. They’ve been trying to push Harry to make a move on you for years and he hasn’t. Your friends say you’ve been complaining about feeling lonely in the romantic department and of course they took it upon themselves to “help”.
He hoped that if he sought out plans with you, you’d forget about whatever silly “date” they’ve asked you to go on.
You: A date I think. Can I call it a date?
He sighs deeply, his whole body deflating.
H: Why wouldn’t you call it a date?
You: I don’t know the guy and it just doesn’t feel right you know?”
Immediately you see his face flash on your screen and feel the phone vibrating in your hands. Your brow furrows but you press the accept button and bring the phone up to your ear.
“Don’t go.” is the first thing he says, his tone almost pleading. “If it doesn’t feel right, don’t go. You can come over to mine, we can do face masks or something. Just don’t go.”
You sigh, seriously considering his offer, “but don’t you think I owe to myself, H? I feel like I never put myself out there you know. It’s time I’ve tried. Can’t wait around forever.” You mumble that last part, slightly turning your mouth away from the speaker.
“What? N-nevermind. You said it didn’t feel right though.” he tries again, praying that a little coaxing can get you to not go on that date. He swears he’ll confess his feelings to you right now if that’s what it takes. He doesn’t know what he’ll do if that date goes well and someone pulls the girl he’s so enamored with right from under him. He knows that if you start seeing someone things will be different, and you might tell him that they won’t be at first, but he knows they will. He absolutely cannot lose you. That’s one thing he refuses to do. Regardless of his fears.
“Doesn’t hurt to try, right?” You almost wish he would tell you not to go again. You so desperately wish he would tell you what you want to hear. At no point before this phone call did you plan or think about making him jealous or upset at the idea of you seeing someone else, but the tortured thought is crossing your mind now. And you just wish that he’d say what you need to hear to get you to not go on that date. Your nails are digging into your palms as you anticipate his response, the tension building in your muscles.
His mouth opens and closes. He has all the words in his head, but they hesitate to come out.
A beat passes.
You hear him sigh and you know he’s not going to tell you what you need to hear.
So so close. He was so close to saying everything that needed to be out in the open for both of you, but he chickened out.
“Right. Go for it, babe. Hope all goes well.” he forces a cheerful tone, one that he even cringes at, and usually, you know him better than that, but the tears are pooling in your eyes and threatening to fall down your cheeks; you don’t want to mess up the makeup that you’ve just done.
“Thanks, H.” Your voice wobbles the slightest bit. Usually he knows you better, but the tears are pooling and threatening to fall down his cheeks. He presses his fingers into his palm and hangs up.
He just stands there for a moment, a lone tear falls down his face and he immediately wipes it away, you’re too pure and precious to be the reason for his pain. He wishes he could just tell you.
Tumblr media
He’s been dodging you.
You basically know his entire schedule, and you know that he’s been dodging you.
You sigh softly as another call goes unanswered. Your heart is aching from missing your twin flame.
The date went well, surprisingly. The guy was kind and thoughtful, he pulled your chair out for you and said all the right things, he was a great conversationalist, he was attractive. He basically checked all the boxes. Except for one. He wasn’t Harry. And you weren’t deeply in love with him. You should’ve listened to Harry that night, honestly. There’s only one person you want to be with.
Tumblr media
You almost want to turn around after you knock on his door. You felt stupid, like you were coming here to make a fool of yourself.
The door swings open and you sigh a breath of relief.
“Harry.” you sigh, “I’ve been trying to reach you for days.”
He nods and opens the door wider to let you in. Your arms wrap around yourself protectively in a way that they never have around him when you step inside. He notices instantly.
That’s his breaking point. The idea that that comfort you feel in each other is being challenged by his inability to just tell you how he feels.
He walks towards you slowly. When he’s in front of you, his hand reaches up to touch your cheek softly and you frown in confusion, “why have you been avoiding me?” you whisper, not trusting your voice when he’s touching you.
He shakes his head, “I’ve been avoiding a lot of things, you weren’t one of them, though.”
Your frown deepens even more, “H. What in the world are you talk—” when you realize how close he’s suddenly become, your talking ceases. He leans in further, faintly brushing his lips against yours, using his grip on your cheek to angle you in the perfect way.
“I’ve been avoiding my feelings. My feelings for you. These intense feelings that have been just utterly consuming me lately. These feelings that I think have been there since we were kids. It’s always, always been you, babe.” he leans down one more inch, and his lips are on yours.
Soft and delicate, but so full of passion that it overwhelms you.
He kisses you softly again, first your top lip and then your bottom lip, then leaves one more soft peck on both.
When you pull away you’re at a loss for words. You take this moment to look at him. To really look at him and just admire. A smile makes its way onto your face that you couldn’t have possibly fought even if you tried.
“What?” he chuckles softly, stroking his thumb against your cheek and lips.
“Nothing you just, you have this sparkle in your eyes that I’ve never noticed before. It’s beautiful.” Neither of you can stop your lips  from meeting again.

How do they currently feel about you?
Pile 1 -> Pile 2
Pile 3 -> Pile 4
Pile 1
3oW, 9oS, 7oW rev, Emperor, AoW, 7oS, AoP, 8oS, Chariot (AoC)
Pile 1, it's possible that either you or this person have recently decided to end things.. If it was them who turned away, they might have been dealing with a lot of fear and stress in their life which made it hard for them to focus on your relationship. And if you were the one who walked away, it's probably because you were tired of waiting around for them to make a move and wanted to focus on your own healing instead.
Either way, your person is feeling pretty stressed about how things have turned out, however I see that recently something seems to have shifted inside of them. They are no longer guarded or defensive and they realize that they want to step up and be the partner you deserve. They want to give to the relationship instead of just taking from it out of fear of commitment or pressure from others. And most importantly Pile 1, they're in love with you and want to make a move towards you soon. Get ready to hear from them in the near future.
Pile 2
Chariot, 8oS, 9oS, 5oW, 6oW, 2oW, Justice, 8oC, Death (Temperance)
Pile 2, it's possible that this person couldn't come to you in the past because of their own hang ups about relationships or due to some external circumstances outside of their control. I see this may have caused a lot of stress and even some clashes between you two, or if not, your person might have been in a dilemma about whether or not to approach you and offer something real.
However, I see that this person has recently overcome whatever was holding them back and they're hoping that you're still open to the idea of being in a relationship with them. For some of you, they may be waiting to resolve some legal issues or personal matters before starting a new cycle with you. However, it's only a matter of time before they leave their past behind and make their way towards you again. Pile 2, this person really wants to reconnect, as they think you're both a good fit for each other.
Pile 3
4oS, Hermit, Temperance, 9oC, Emperor, 4oW, 8oW, Hierophant (2oW)
Pile 3, when your person is alone, they just can't get you out of their head. And even though they try not to get too caught up, the truth is you're everything they've ever wanted in a partner, and more. For some, they feel you're their ultimate wish fulfillment or like a dream come true!
I see that this person is seriously thinking about a future with you and all that it would entail such as marriage, a family and a house with a white picket fence. They feel like you're the missing puzzle piece and they can't wait for things to continue to progress to the next level between the two of you.
Pile 4
10oS, 5oC, 2oC, Death, Chariot, Magician, 7oS, World, 2oW, 10oW (Tower)
Pile 4, if things have recently ended between you and your person, they are really struggling with the fact that you no longer want anything to do with them. At the same time, they know they were being manipulative and dishonest while they had you, so they understand why you felt you had no other choice but to walk away.
This person also feel like you have successfully moved on and are doing better without them, while they are still stuck with painful memories and missing you more and more each day. For many of you, they have come to the sobering realization that you are gone for good. And despite how they might act or portray themselves to others, every day their entire world feels like it’s falling apart.
This person is completely shattered over the loss of you, Pile 4. They believe you were the best thing that ever happened to them, and can’t seem to forgive themselves for messing it all up. Whenever they think about you, they can't help but feel extremely sad and regretful.
Thanks for reading 🔮✨

scout and sniper (seperate) x reader where reader is like ms pauling’s bestie/and or reader works for The Administrator and one day reader takes a shift for Ms Pauling and that’s how they meet scout/sniper ? kinda like a slow burn thing snd readr is like painfully oblivious 😭 thanks! and if you can’t complete the request don’t feel pressured to <3
Sure!
(Be prepared, I got way too carried away cus I really liked this idea hehe)
Scout and Sniper falling for reader who's Ms. Pauling's bestie!
Scout
He isn't thrilled at hearing that someone is replacing Ms. Pauling for a day. Mainly because, y'know, he's in love with her and he won't get to see her.
After the announcement given by Ms. Pauling, Scout follows her like a sad puppy, asking why she's having her shift being taken by someone else. Is she getting fired? Is she getting a vacation with the help of some miracle? Does she not like working with them anymore? Pauling has to reassure him that it's just a shift change and nothing else before leaving Scout with his thoughts.
And suddenly, he finds himself in a dilemma. If he flirts with you, he's cheating on Pauling. But she doesn't love him back, so if he tried to flirt with you, maybe he would have a chance at finding love?
When you arrive at the base, Scout is the first person you see, since he's standing right by the door, anticipating your arrival.
"Hey, toots! You must be the one who's stepping in for Pauling, right?" He greets you with a smile.
"Yes, I am. You must be the Scout." You confirm.
"The one and only! Now, how about I show you the team and the base?" He asks, eager to show you around.
Despite you already knowing about the mercenaries and knowing the entire base's layout from cameras, you accept his request.
Scout slightly bashes his teammates as he's talking to you about them and seems to dwell more on himself than everyone else. The base tour wasn't the best either, he constantly missed stuff or didn't assign something correctly just because he couldn't read or didn't know what the room was for. Not to mention him randomly throwing pick-up lines and compliments at you.
When you tell Scout that you actually need to go and do some work, he follows you around, still pestering you and going to see what you're doing.
He's disappointed to see you go so soon at the end of the day. He asks you again and again if you will ever take another shift for Pauling or help her with something around the base.
"Well, you never know what kind of a job you could get working here. Maybe the Administrator will think on it because of your warm welcome!"
You assure him that there's a chance you two will meet again before leaving. Scout watches you as you leave, hoping to get an opurtunity to talk to you again.
When you meet Pauling again, she asks you how your day went, and the first thing that comes to your mind is Scout.
"Damn, you weren't kidding, he really has a motormouth. Does he ever stop talking?" You ask.
"Haven't lived to see it."
Scout spends way more time thinking about you than he should. You've only met one time, why was he so obsessed over you? Maybe because you were warmer, more open than Pauling was to him. Maybe this was a sign to move on.
Days and, eventually, weeks go by without him seeing you. He ends up asking Pauling where you've been, which she sees as a nice change of pace instead of him flirting with her and trying to ask her out on a date.
So, when you make another appearance in the base, he's by your side like a dog, happy to see you. Once again, he's on your tail, flirting and complimenting you.
After a few more visits, you open up to him, having more heart-to-heart conversations with him. The conversations are genuinely light and fun, making Scout realize how one-sided his love with Pauling was.
The more time Scout spends with you, the more he misses you when you're away. There are rare times where all he can think about is you and actually is kinda quiet. It's just that he's used to seeing Puling so often, but since you aren't technically working with the mercenaries, it's unusual for him to see you come over so rarely.
Scout can hardly contain his love for you, eventually, an idea comes to his mind, he could ask Ms. Pauling to help keep you two in touch. Sometimes Pauling acts as a simple messenger, repeating Scout's words to you or taking one of his gifts to you.
Pauling sees Scout coming towards her with a bouquet "No, Scout, I don't want flowers.'' She denies.
"They're not for you, they're for Y/n.." Scout says, slightly embarrassed.
Pauling's eyes widen in shock, but she's still glad the flowers weren't for her "Oh, okay. I'll get this to them."
When Ms. Pauling reaches you again, giving you Scout's gift.
"Wow, he must really want to welcome me with open arms, he's been giving me gifts every time I've seen him!" You say, adding the flowers to the pile of gifts he has given you.
Pauling knows Scout has a crush on you, but decides to not say anything about it to you, so you can figure it out by yourself.
He always tries to confess last minute, or ends up being interrupted before he can deliver those final, meaning words.
Until, one time, before you can even reach the base's door, he just confesses, blushing madly. It leaves you both surprised at the moment and how quickly it unfolds. But it also explains a lot to you.
For the rest of the day, you freely let him follow you, letting him talk his heart out to you.
Sniper
He kind of doesn't care that Ms. Pauling's shift gets taken by someone else. All that matters to him is that you don't screw anything up when the time comes for you to see what the team is like.
"Remember, if there's someone who shows up in purple uniform, in a black car, on Tuesday, 08.00 a.m. sharp, that's who's taking my shift."
The reassurance of Pauling suddenly felt needed to Sniper, maybe she's telling them this because someone else could replace you and would need to be caught. Sniper brushes off the anxiety though and goes to do whatever he needs to.
When the day comes, Sniper is the one who decides to keep look-out, waiting for you to arrive in his tower. He spots a black car, you step out. Sniper views you through his scope, going over Ms. Paulings announcement.
Purple uniform. Black car. It's a Tuesday... Sniper lifts his head and looks at his watch. Just a few seconds after 08.00 a.m.
His anxiety eases, watching you go to the base's front door and greeting the other mercenaries. Not wanting to get too involved, Sniper decides to not come down. You're going to be here for one shift and he doesn't like new people and socializing, there was no need for a connection between you two.
A few hours later, in his camper, Sniper hears some knocking. He groggily walks up to the door, expecting one of his teammates to bother him, only to find you standing outside.
"Good day, you're Sniper, right?" You ask.
"Yeah." He gives a short, simple answer, again, not wanting to create a bond with you.
"I'm Y/n. The other mercenaries asked if you could join them for lunch." You quickly introduce yourself and reveal what you came to him for.
"Oi'll make my own, thanks." He says.
"Engie made a brisket that took him hours, he would appreciate it if you joined everyone else to try it!" Your tone is more sincere, trying to convince Sniper.
"What buisness do you have in what my teammates would appreciate that Oi do?" Sniper asks, voice stern and filled with suspicion.
"I'm taking Pauling's shift and a part of her job is ensuring that you have a strong team bond! And that's my job today, so I actually do have to step in your relationships as teammates." You explain in a more serious voice, reminding Sniper he should respect you just like he respects Pauling.
The explanation and change of tone in your voice convinces him enough to leave his camper and join the rest of his team for lunch. For the rest of the day, he carefully observes you and the other team members, looking for anything that may be off about you.
After your shift is over, Sniper doesn't even notice when you go do other stuff. He had achieved his goal of not getting in your way too much and he doesn't mind it's the first and last time he sees you.
Sniper kind of forgets about you in like, a week or two, only occasionally getting reminded that you exist by his teammates mentioning you. That is, until he picks up the contractor one day and hears your voice.
"Hey, Sniper! You remember me, Y/n, right?" You quickly ask.
He confirms he still knows who you are. He listens to you as you tell him about his contract, but after the contractor disconnects, he becomes suspicious again, trying to reach out to Pauling and asking her if he can accept contracts from you. Pauling, once again, reassures him, telling him it's just like receiving a contract from her.
Now Sniper is used to getting contracts from both of you. But after some contracts, he starts to act differently without him noticing. He starts to eagerly pick up the contractor, as if he's bored and needs something to do.
With Pauling on the other end he greets her with "Oh, G'day Pauling." And you with "Hey, Y/n! Got another contract for me?" He seems to sub-conciously open up to you, using more friendly language.
It's only when he's visibly a bit disappointed when Pauling gives him a contract, but his spirit lifts when you give him one when he realizes there's something special about you. He can't put a finger on it, but the feeling is warm and makes him want to talk to you and hear your voice.
And then, a slip up from Sniper showed him what that feeling was. After you tell him about the contract, he thinks for a bit before accepting it.
"Don't worry, love. You've chosen the roight man for the job."
"Love?"
"..."
"Sniper?-"
After a moment of akward silence, Sniper hangs up, leaving you confused. He suddenly got embarrased, his face flushing and heartbeat becoming faster. "Fuck, why did I say THAT???"
The incident doesn't bother him too much. Until you show up at the base again. Seeing you in person suddenly makes him nervous and he slightly shakes as you talk to him. Sniper secretly wants you to stick around and when you go do something else all he's left with is a lingering feeling.
Of course, he denies these feelings, not wanting to mix his love life with work. Sniper pushes his affection for you aside, bottling it up. But his crush overwhelms him too much for it to be ignored. Maybe he just needs to think to himself for a bit.
You just chat with Pauling about the mercenaries, when out of the corner of your eye, something shines way up high. You turn your head to the little shine, seeing it's in Sniper's tower. Suddenly, it disappears and Sniper, too, is nowhere in sight. Despite him turning off his laser, the light reflecting from the scope's glass still made you look up at him. Sniper sits on the floor, embarrased that you caught him spying on you. The fact that he had decided to look at you and got flustered when you noticed his stalking was enough for Sniper to realize there really was something special abaout you.
Meanwhile, down on the ground. "Does he do that to everyone?" You ask Pauling, confused.
"Well, in my first few weeks he did that too, so he's probably just still suspicious of you." Pauling explains and you shrug.
It takes him a good month or even two to do something about his feelings towards you. And during that time, he loses a lot of sleep, thinking about how he should confess, if he should confess, how the relationship would be taken further, etc.
Sniper EVENTUALLY invites you over for coffee with the help of Ms. Pauling. You both talk for a bit before you have to leave again to take care of the Administrator's buisness. By then, Sniper is sick of himself being too nervous to tell you about his feelings and gives you a speedy confession while blushing.
You're both kind of surprised, looking at each other with wide eyes for a little moment. After the akward silence passes, you invite him for a date. He's surprised that you feel the same, but glad to have you by his side.

Round 3, Group B: Matchup 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shinji Ikari vs Makoto Naegi
Reasons for being generic + Propaganda below
Shinji Ikari
Reasons:
- Messy black hair - Whiny - Has a tsundere friend - "Friend" - Wears the most boring fucking clothing
Normcore king. He is just A Guy. He’s the first character I thought of when I saw your intro post.
Most normal kid with depression and abandonment issues ever (and I say this very lovingly). His hair is brown and short with generic bangs, his eyes are brown. Literally just some guy (before the horrors (tm)) His default outfit is black shirt, white dressing shirt, black pants, white shoes (which is also his school uniform)
He just wants to go to high school, have weird feelings about girls, and brood about his relationship with his father. He does not want to get in the fucking robot
He’s a teenager with short black hair and a button up top and uniform pants. Given the iconic status of NGE, I wouldn’t be surprised if Shinji’s design served as a basis for every generic modern mecha/isekai series to come after.
Propaganda:
Your honor, he's so dislikable
He deserves a win after going through the horrors(tm). I know a lot of people don't like Shinji BECAUSE he's "too generic/depressed to be a main character" but if anything that should make him win. He's my blorbo ok? He was literally just some guy who one day got the fate of the world in his hands out of nowhere and when he reasonably is like "yo I'm like super depressed, this is only making me more mentally ill than I already was" everyone goes "ok, pussy much? Call the wambulance" and I think he deserved better. Also he's gay (or at the very least bisexual), so like diversity win. Let him win. Also if he wins we can all say "Congratulations, Shinji" like in the anime
One of the classic 90s anime everymen
Roasts of his design aside, Shinji is a genuinely great and fascinating protagonist. His struggles with depression, identity, self worth and hedgehogs dilemma are compelling to watch and, for a then socially anxious teenage me, were at times crushingly relatable. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he still has a place in my heart.
Makoto Naegi
Reasons:
BOOOORING GENERGIC FLUFFY BROWN HAIR. BOOOO. BORING!
Lol he is literally normal in a group of weirdos . His only defining traits are an ahoge and green jacket. If you put him in a room of generic anime boys he would Not stand out. He would be lost :(
sorry for submitting a danganronpa character but his whole thing is that he's average. he says at the beginning of the game that even among the average, he's completely average. he's the one character in the game who doesn't have a real talent, having only have gotten into hope's peak academy because of luck, being the ultimate lucky student
Look at him. His talent is luck. Literally. Only normal person at the academy because he's literally just some guy and everyone else is "the best of the best" at something. Spends a lot of the first chapter (and a little of the next ones) being like "I'm literally just some guy"
He is a highschool student who describes himself as average in everything, liking whatever's popular, has messy brown hair and a hoodie, and is the protagonist despite only getting into the situation in-game out of luck. He gets two female love interests, he is the ultimate generic anime-style protagonist. He does become less average in the finale of danganronpa v1 and danganronpa v2, but until then he is the most generic boy one can be, and that generic boy swag is what somehow gets him women.
That's the #1 thing people know about him. His whole thing is that he's just A Guy. He's what you think of when you think of generic anime protagonist. He's got the power of friendship. He's handheld by the smarter/more powerful characters to a point where it's unnecessary but still ends up the leader because he has Hope and Believes in his Friends. He's just a decent guy! Also, my favorite character.
I mean. C'mon. His entire introduction is surrounding the fact that he's so average and boring that even among average people he'd be considered too average, his character development is the usual "With the power of friendship we can overcome anything!!!!", and his personality is that "nice mc with no backbone" type. He even has that generic anime dub voice
Propaganda:
he's pretty funky
he's so silly tbh that's all also i actually like him more than hajime
He's bisexual and a short king (who is unfazed by the fact that he is short; unlike many characterswho are short he never mentions it once and I'm 98% sure that if someone else brought it up he'd just be like "ok...?"), also a very decent guy
He acts pretty adorable, and I find it hilarious how other characters outshine him in protagonist potential, which makes him an even more fun protagonist in my opinion.
His whole thing is that he's just A Kid in a peer group of what's basically super-kids. He's the epitome of what you think of when you think of generic male anime protagonist: - He's got the power of friendship. - He's handheld by the smarter/more powerful characters to a point where it's unnecessary. - Acts as the polite straight man to the insane personalities around him in an "well... whatever you say then 😅" kinda way. - Obviously in way over his head but still ends up the leader because he has Hope and Believes. - Also because he is the main/POV character and so inexplicably gets to figure out and survive things. - He has a little sister and parents who look just as generic as him.
he is also portrayed to be clumsy and flustered easily. Which feels like a very Generic Anime Teenager trait to have.

I anticipated it, and despite my futile hopes, it happened. One of the most masterfully written books on World War II was transformed into an overly dramatic series lacking any complexity, glorifying a Nazi as our heroic figure. If you can't grasp how messed up these changes are, then just get out.
This wasn't an adaptation; it was a complete distortion of the original story. Having read the book, it's infuriating to witness the show's blatant disregard for the profound moments that reveal the humanity in people, the major moral dilemmas, and the portrayal of Werner as inherently good, wiping away all shades of his moral complexity. He's essentially an entirely different character, suggesting a world where individuals are either inherently virtuous or irredeemably evil, with no middle ground. Werner's numerous transgressions are trivialized and never brought to light, leaving his path to redemption woefully incomplete. His character portrayal is utterly disjointed.
And Marie... she was as unremarkable as the color beige. It's not just about her acting skills (acknowledging she's a newcomer), but her entire character lacked any memorable impact.
Werner is a brilliantly written character who evokes our sympathy, as he was just a small grain of sand on a vast beach. Even though he had little control over his circumstances, he was still a part of the bigger picture. His most redeeming moment came when he helped Marie, making his eventual death in the book all the more heart-wrenching. He found a glimmer of light within himself, only to meet a tragic end, while someone like Volkheimer, who way less deserving, survives and grows old. The injustice of this situation was painfully evident. However, all of this depth and complexity is missing in the show. It's like it never existed.
Moreover, the absence of Frederik, who represents the greatest source of light and humanity in this book, is a significant loss. Frederik played a crucial role in Werner's personal growth. He is also an element of resistance, and his absence robs the story of an important element.
A major oversight was aging the characters in the adaptation. Portraying them as children would have underscored the loss of their innocence and the cruel theft of their youth and early adulthood by the ravages of war. It could have highlighted the extent of their suffering during that time, a reality that is frequently disregarded. War spares no one and the book is brutal about it.
The alterations in the storyline didn't align with the original narrative and it was disservice. The portrayal of the scene where Werner fixes the radio was entirely inaccurate. Moreover, all the German adult characters were depicted as cartoonish embodiments of evil – there were no layers of complexity. In the book, they were initially amiable towards Werner, but their behavior changed not because they are some cartoonish evils, but due to the complexity of human nature. They were kind to Werner because they wanted something from him, and once their purpose was served, the pretense disappeared, as Werner comes to realize.
The show completely mishandles the chronology, revealing crucial details about the Battle of Saint Malo without delving into the complexity of why the characters are the way they are or how they arrived at their current situations. The portrayal comes across as overly simplistic and lacking the depth present in the book, as if the producers attempted to compensate for this by sprinkling a handful of meaningful quotes, hoping to capture the essence of the profound analysis found within the book.
The decision to have the characters speak English with their national accents was distracting and bordered on being caricature-like. While I understand the desire to appeal to an American audience, it seems questionable whether the series would even be marketable there. Aside from the general American taste for hero-focused war movies and the presence of Mark Ruffalo, there seems to be little appeal for the American audience. Presenting a Nazi character as a hero would likely not sit well with viewers. It might have been more effective for the show to cast German or French actors and have them speak their respective languages, which could have added at least layer of authenticity to the series.
To be honest, I could continue to elaborate on how this show tells an entirely different story. With the characters aged and Werner surviving the Battle of Saint Malo, the essence of the narrative undergoes a significant shift. Overall, the series fails to capture the poignant essences of the book, offering viewers a simplified and emotionally detached rendition of what was originally a profound narrative.
Apart from the fact that not all Nazis enjoyed being Nazis, I’m not sure what we’re supposed to take away from this series… even the significance behind the title of the book seems to have been overlooked and might not be understood by the audience.
Honestly... this was four hours too long.

Part 1 - Part 2 - Good Ending - Bad Ending
Tumblr media
Shoto had never particularly wanted this. He had never been interested in romantic relationships and was discouraged from having them, they would only distract him.
But now he had a lot to think about. You liked him. No… you loved him.
He hadn’t ever thought about you in that way and restricted himself from his mind ever straying there. Yet he couldn’t deny the butterflies that rose in his stomach when you confessed to him. It played on his mind since then and, despite his father pushing him into a falsified relationship for his public image, he struggled to define what he felt.
There was something about the relationship he had with you that just wasn’t the same as his other friends. You had been closer to him, and there were emotions there that he just couldn’t place.
He had initially come to the conclusion that it was just a close friendship, but that was before you confessed. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but he also felt a part of him may be in denial.
Maybe he did love you? The thoughts spun in his head for days and weeks.
It was only the night before Valentine’s that he approached Momo about his feelings. He explained what had happened and told her of his dilemma.
“If that’s how you feel, then you probably do have romantic feelings for him,” Momo said, “You two were always so close, I want to be the last person standing in the way of that.”
“You’re not upset?” Shoto asked, he expected a more betrayed reaction.
“I suspected that you felt nothing towards me… Don’t get me wrong! I really do value our friendship, but don’t suppress your feelings for (y/n) because of our public image,”
“But how do I know for certain this is love?” He asked. There was too much risk in this for it to be so simple.
“Trust your intuition, if you feel it’s right to pursue a relationship with him, then do. We can work around the public side of it all with some secrecy and a bit of luck,” Momo said, placing a hand on his shoulder for comfort.
And it just made sense. He didn’t realise how much he missed your closeness with him. He didn’t understand that the butterflies he got whenever you were alone together was excitement. He thought that you had pushed him away, but he was also keeping his distance from you. A relationship was never something he wanted to risk, but he was willing to try it. For you.
Yes, he had been in denial. But he understood now.
The publicity stunt with Momo still took place, but as he made the announcement his eyes kept searching around the cafeteria for you. And when he found you sat next to Izuku, he noticed your state.
You looked distraught and sickly. He needed to tell you how he felt, he didn’t want to put you through this. Izuku helped you out of your seat and the two of you left the cafeteria. He wanted to go after you, but he couldn’t.
When you arrived back in the classroom, Izuku was holding your arm, seemingly guiding you around. You spoke briefly and quietly with Aizawa, who looked surprised… or worried? You bowed to him, and then you left the room with Izuku once more.
Chatter started up the moment you left, rumours flying across the classroom.
“Do you think he hurt himself in that quirk accident?”
“Did you see his eyes? I think he’s been blinded…”
“I heard he has some rare and uncurable disease-”
Uraraka stayed silent through it all, quiet and downcast. There was something wrong, and Shoto was only getting more worried.
There was a buzzing in his head, and his chest felt like it caving in. He needed to talk to you.
---
Shoto knocked on your dorm and waited for a response.
He had been trying to find you for a while now, but after hearing noise from your dorm room he decided to try there. The door opened to Izuzku, not you.
“Oh, hi Shoto,” he said, a smile forming on his face, “can I help you?”
“Do you know where (y/n) is? I can’t find him.” He asked, and Izuku’s smile dropped.
He was led to Recovery Girl’s office, and the feeling in Shoto’s chest only grew. It was dread.
Curtains were pulled back by Izuku to reveal you, sitting, staring into nothingness, with a very fancy-looking doctor looking at your eyes. The doctor turned to Recovery Girl with a solemn look, bowed to her, and then left.
“I’ll leave you to be,” Izuku said and turned to speak with Recovery Girl at her desk.
Shoto felt frozen. Not by ice, ice didn’t burn this deep.
“I was going to take you out for soba this evening,” Soto said as he sat down next to you.
“Sorry, Shoto, we might need to reschedule,” you said casually. The tension lessened, but the hurt in those words still lingered. You didn’t turn to look at him as you spoke.
Moving before he thought, he brought his hand to your cheek, moving your face to look at him. He was taken aback by your eyes. They were a glowing orange, the pupils a deep red.
You lent into his hand, pressing it into your cheek, revelling in the cold of his skin on his right side.
“It’s the star tear curse,” you whispered “I’m blind, Shoto. I loved you too much,”
So this was why. With all of his indecision and his denial, he was hurting you.
It was heartbreaking. Your future, your hero career, even your friends. There wasn’t an aspect of your life that this wouldn’t affect. There was nothing he could do now except try to heal the emotional wounds.
“I love you too, (y/n),” Shoto said softly, “I know it’s too late, and I’m sorry I took so long, but I know now.”
The tear that trailed down his cheek turned to steam as it fell, and he pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“Really?” You smiled solemnly, “If only you’d said something yesterday,”
“I’m sorry I can’t fix this, but I want to make up for my failures,” He said.
“Thank you, Shoto,” You said as you pulled him into your chest, and he wrapped his arms around you. He held you tightly as you quietly cried into his hair.
Shoto loved you, he knew he loved you,  and he promised himself he would never stop. The pain had gone. Your tears were no longer cursed, but your sight would never return.

I think one of the things that bothers me the most about mine being killed off at the end of y3 is like… you get little tiny looks here and there into his mind and at who he is, but overall because his intentions are so mysterious most of the game, he seems like a relatively 2-dimensional villain pretty much up until the very end when he monologues and reveals his worldview, background, relationship with daigo, etc. and then right after they establish him as being complex and interesting by revealing all that info AND having him take kiryu’s hand and start changing his mindset for the better– they kill him off. so it kinda feels like truly introducing a character right at the end and then getting rid of him like thirty seconds later just Destroying all the potential they just gave him. like. he was just at the start of his development basically and it just sucks to not be able to see that through and see what he could’ve become.
as much as I do totally understand the dilemma brought on by daigo waking up and the crushing guilt that’d immediately bring mine, and I totally agree that he’d absolutely TRY to dramatically kill himself in an act of self-sacrifice over it, I don’t think they particularly should’ve let him– for the sake of his potential as a recurring character, but moreover because we’ve already been through this before with nishiki and ending this incident with the same result despite kiryu actually doing things right this time and daigo showing immediate care and concern for mine upon waking up (unlike kiryu with nishiki, who got ignored and basically forgotten). I think it would’ve been more powerful and interesting and applicable to kiryu’s development in the long run to have had mine saved, both literally/physically and emotionally in the sense that he actually accepts, even if he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of it, that people truly care about him and there isn’t only evil in the world and that if he can’t live for himself he can live for the sake of those he loves. he’s been self-centered for so long and kiryu calls him out on it, so he considers that maybe, for once, he should put his fate and trust into the hands of others rather than believing himself to have the clearest judgement on what he deserves or how he should repent. and that’d mean something to kiryu, who’s at that point already grappling with a similar dilemma when it comes to stubbornly sacrificing himself for others despite those who love him telling him it’s not always necessary and that he can accept help. it’so mean something to have kiryu see that self sacrifice isn’t the only option, and even in the worst of situations a person’s life can be saved through compassion.

Two strangers in an online chat room hit it off. Turns out they’re childhood sweethearts.
This is gonna be long but is completely SFW fluff. I'm just separating into two groups and posting below the cut due to length, not content.
I really liked the prompt and now I plan to do everyone as your childhood sweetheart as well.
The city is a cold place. People kept to themselves and trudged through the press of bodies to follow their own lives. You had tried to make friends, but the relationships fell short. They ended with your working hours, and despite people promising to keep in touch, they disappeared from your life after moving. It was one of the reasons you loved getting online. The chatroom you eagerly logged into had them each day. The mysterious person behind another screen in another place understood you and cared.
Then your life was upended. The company you worked for downsized and fired you. The stiff competition for jobs with failed interviews and unchanging rent quickly drain your funds. Takakura’s letter and invitation to the farm were a beacon in the dark. You explained your plans to move to a rural community and the disconnection of your services for the time. You arrived in Forget-Me-Not Valley apprehensive about starting your life over with the only support you knew gone. You were relieved to see a familiar face, even if it was an old childhood sweetheart. They helped you adjust to your new surroundings. You soon found yourself remembering why you had fallen for them years ago.
You couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief when you managed to get your services running once again. The screen revealed unread messages. Your chatroom confidant had asked if you were comfortable sharing where you were moving. You had told them your location in the city, trusting the crowds of people to mask your exact location. But their messages revealed they live in Forget-Me-Not Valley and offered assistance if it was here or Mineral Town you were moving to. You shut everything down in a panic leaving the messages on read. Who could it be? Were you ready to meet them? How would you tell your friend?
CELIA/CECILIA
You went immediately to find Cecilia. As awkward as it might be, she was the one you wanted to confide in about your dilemma. Cecilia was the most thoughtful and sincere person you knew. Any answer she gave would be the best one. You didn’t expect her to be upset when you arrived. Cecilia seemed like she was ready to burst into tears at any moment.
“I can come back later,” you hesitated.
Cecilia softly forced a smile and ushered you in and up to her room. She waved away your inquiries and insisted helping you would make her feel better. It had to be something serious if you came covered in sweat, looking as though you’d seen a ghost in the night. Cecilia sat on her bed, listening as you paced and spilled out what had just happened. How you very desperately wanted to meet this person and all your fears. When you finished, Cecilia’s shocked face dashed your hopes.
“I’m crazy, right? How could I fall for someone online that I’ve never met?”
“Um, was their username FarmingFlowers by any chance?” Cecilia whispered, stopping you in your tracks. How did she know that? You stood with your mouth hanging open as the pieces slowly fell into place.
DARYL
You spent the next day attempting to figure out what you wanted to do. You shouldn’t keep them on read without answering, but it was easier to ignore if you kept the computer off. The sheep you were brushing bleated angrily, annoyed with your constant pestering. With nothing left to keep you busy, a trip to see what experiment Daryl was working on seemed the best distraction.
His eyes were bloodshot, and he was agitated when you arrived at the lab. You opened your mouth to greet him, but he swiftly cut you off. Now wasn’t a good time, he curtly informed you snapping the door shut in your face. It hurt your feelings, but then Daryl had a temper when you were kids. You worried more that he had more work stolen from his lab. You figured you would give him a few days and try again. Maybe by then, you could resolve your problem.
After two days, you knocked on Daryl’s door. It creaked open, but Daryl didn’t appear in the opening. You cautiously opened the door wider to see him sleeping at his desk. Your eyes widened in shock, seeing the inside of his lab. You could make out lines connecting blobs of text on the chalkboard that overflowed to papers taped to the wall connected by yarn. Overcome with curiosity for his new research project - you moved in for a closer look.
Daryl’s usually messy writing was more illegible than usual across the chalkboard. You followed where the majority of threads led to a piece of paper. Scrawled on the paper was your username with circles around it. You would have thought he outgrew overstepping boundaries by this age. You snatched the page from the wall as your face flushed. Filled with embarrassment and anger at him, you shook Daryl awake.
As you heaved in another breath, searching for something else to say, he tapped the paper and asked if that was yours. Once you confirmed it was your username, the tables flipped on you. Daryl launched into how rude it was to keep someone waiting on a response. You clearly had time if you were snooping through his lab. You stood dazed, watching him remove the thread as he lectured.
“W-wait, when did you get all this?” you questioned. You had been home since those messages. You would have known if Daryl was at the farm! He frowned at your confusion before sighing and sitting you down to explain his process for how he knew it was you. He planned on seeing you to speak things over sooner but fell asleep, and then you barged in.
FLORA
You quickly recognized the girl you dragged around on adventures as a kid. Flora seemed content with her job, and her patient nature had to help with the dig site. You were bored within an hour of digging and not finding anything. The mindless digging seemed more welcoming than usual as you puzzled over who Floyd might be. You had always assumed the username was just their name. No one in the valley was named Floyd; could it be someone’s middle name? If so, which of the guys would it be?
Flora interrupted you at noon for a lunch break by the waterfall. She was agitated, you noticed. Did something happen with the creep who was hanging around the campsite? You found it hard to believe that would be the issue when you were Flora could easily beat anyone to smithereens. Flora hesitated before asking your opinion on something that was bothering her. She tucked a blonde flyaway behind her ear and asked what it meant if someone ignored her messages. The person had never done so previously but suddenly did recently, and she wondered if it was something she had done.
That sounded too eerily similar to your predicament. You frowned and asked if Flora could share more details. She shared the exact details of the recent exchange you had with Floyd.
“You’re Floyd?! Why on earth would you choose Floyd for a username?” you proclaimed in shock. Flora jumped slightly at your sudden outburst. The University gave it to her for her email as a combination of her first initial and last name for [email protected]. It seemed the most convenient to use instead of finding something else. Was that wrong?
NAMI
Nami hadn’t always been the quiet, reflective type. You could dimly remember her being a rambunctious tomboy dragging you into trouble. She became more withdrawn once the problems between her parents started. Nami had barely acknowledged when your mom packed you up to move elsewhere. Your letters never received a response, and you eventually just stopped sending them.
You were apprehensive to see her again in the valley but relieved she seemed at peace. The past years of traveling must have done her wonders. She wasn’t the wild child you remembered but remained the excellent listener she had always been. This is how you stumbled into revealing yourself. You were casually telling Nami about some of your challenges at the farm, mostly about one specific sheep who wanted your attention. His headbutts were leaving bruises, and you didn’t know how to make him stop. You didn’t know how to stop when you started spilling the tea about your shock with the chatroom.
“Why wouldn’t you want to meet them if they’ve been so important?” Nami’s question left you speechless. You shrugged your shoulders in response. Nami didn’t need to know that you were worried. You were already pining for the redhead, and the thought of meeting someone else made you nauseous in choosing one of them.
Nami frowned at your sudden silence. You watched as she moved across her room at the inn to open a drawer. She pulled out an old, battered shoebox held together with bright yellow tape telling others to keep out. Nami silently peeled the tape back and dumped the contents on the bed. You were shocked to find the letters you sent yellowed with age and worn. Nami mumbled that she didn’t know how to respond as a kid since you always seemed happy, and she wasn’t. She is glad she could support you through your rough times in the city and would like to continue. If you didn’t mind her being your online friend and you still wanted. Nami looked shocked but not uncomfortable when you enthusiastically wrapped her in a hug. You were beyond relieved she was the one.
ROCK
You waited for lunch the next day before once more opening the messages. Now with a calmer state of mind, you were immediately mad at yourself.
the.BEST.rockest.rock_ had left another message with a sad face and question mark. It was beyond obvious who in the valley your chatroom crush had been. Now you knew why Rock was so down today when you turned down his offers to hang out. You had essentially turned him down twice in less than a day. A finger tapped your mouse as you thought. It would be better to track him down now than wait longer.
You found Rock at the Goddess Spring, observing his face in the reflective water. He had a contemplative frown as he shifted to different angles. Rock’s eyes lit up when he saw you, excitedly asking if you had changed your mind. He looked hesitant and worried when you mentioned needing to talk. You could see the gears turning in his head as you explained the chatroom and apologized for not noticing sooner it was him. A piece of you might have always known or hoped it would be him.
“So, you mean-” Rock started with a huge grin growing on his face. “You’ve fallen for me a total of three different times now? Ha, I knew I was impressive! Don’t worry; I’ll keep your weakness for falling for me a secret!”
The glitter in his golden brown eyes told you the entire valley would know by nightfall.

If you think the conflict between Ruby's side and Ironwood was a "moral dilemma" then I do honestly hope you never end up in Mantle's shoes.
Are you serious anon? If you are I seriously hope YOU are never put into a position of power where this kind of situation comes up because volume 7 set up a trolley problem.
We have a problem, Salem, who is on her way to Atlas. We know she wants two of the world ending relics currently housed in Atlas. We know Salem is immortal and is not afraid to kill people to get what she wants. Atlas is a conveniently floating chunk of land that can be moved to a different location to escape Salem even if only temporarily to try and come up with a plan to deal with Salem since James only recently found out she was immortal and had no chance to come up with something.
Taking Atlas and escaping though means leaving Mantel behind because they have no clue how long they have until Salem arrives and James thinks the risk to try and either get everyone out of Mantel or simply standing their ground is too high and wants to leave immediately. Ruby however believes it is wrong to leave anyone behind and thinks the risk of Salem killing everyone and getting the relics is worth it for the chance to ensure everyone escapes.
Both thought process's have their pros and cons. Neither plan is perfect and, despite what people like you anon like to pretend, neither plan guarantees no one will die. In fact we see Ruby's plan go to complete shit and we know at least all of the soldiers die as we see none of them in Vacuo. Realistically though Ruby's plan in the end still probably killed a lot of civilians because an hour if we're being generous could never be enough time to move two cities worth of people through a single portal. Ruby's plan feels nicer and more heroic. James's plan feels bad but is more realistic. Neither person is wrong or even bad in this moment when this issue is being discussed. James is focusing on the big picture, Ruby on the smaller in the moment issue. Both arguably come from how the trauma of Beacon affected them, Ruby in losing her friends and never wanting that again, James is seeing Salem take down his army like it was nothing and feeling powerless against her and wanting to escape with what they can while they have the chance still.
This situation is not black and white. Their is no perfect answer that will solve everyone's problem with zero cost. Ruby wants to gamble with the lives of everyone on both Atlas AND Mantel because she wants to try and save everyone. James however does not like that risk and thinks its not worth it.
I really don't know how to make this any simpler for you anon because clearly you have the moral understanding of a toddler.

okay i have a bit of a dilemma because im writing something and i don’t know how to go about it. if someone was to write about a gaslighter/user love interest, how would one go about it while also making it seem like they only admit it at the very end of the relationship, which is when the (very in love) main character realises the love interest’s gaslighting tendencies?
honestly this is a meas i may not be the best person to ask for this advice tbh i avoid writing abusive relationships for the most part bc they’re complicated. i stick to smut bc its easy for me lmao. i rambled a lot. sorry. idk if any of this will help or not
i would recommend reading some psych articles on gaslighting tactics and stuff bc i feel like i can’t speak on that specifically bc idk well enough about it. it could vary in sm ways tbh, from like rearranging things and saying that’s the way it’s always been, to agreeing on plans for a date then saying the conversation never happened. laughing and saying they must have dreamed it up and are misremembering. i would try and read published articles bc they’ll give u more insight, so research gaslighting and the cycle of abuse.
what i can say on abusive relationships in general, the victim usually doesn’t realize they’re in an abusive relationship. when you think you’re doing everything wrong, you expect people to get upset about it, so you don’t hold it against your partner when they yell at you and verbally abuse you because you loaded the cups in the dishwasher wrong. then they apologize for yelling and hold you and tell you they love you despite the atrocious way you load the dish washer and everything is okay again. then you forget to put the clothes in the dryer and they don’t have pants to wear to work and have to go in late, they treat you like shit before they leave but they come home with your favorite takeout and dessert.
it would never occur to you to ask them to load the dish washer because you cooked dinner, or for them to do their own laundry. you don’t even remember when you started doing their laundry for them, and doing all the other chores around the house, but their mom never made them clean up so it’s no big deal, right?
the abuser can be an asshole 90% of the time and nice 10% of the time, and the victim will take that 10% and ignore the bad 90% because the 10% feels so good the bad doesn’t matter. it starts slowly, at first they’re always nice, then nice like 95% of the time, then 85% of the time. and no matter how low that percentage gets, they’ll cling to it bc thats the way the reward center of the brain works. they get addicted to the feeling of them being nice so they stick out the bad parts waiting for the good parts to come back. they tell themselves that the abuser will be nice again, that it wasn’t always like this so it won’t always be like this.
there has to be something that makes them realize they are being abused, whether it’s a friend or family member or a stranger who overhears a conversation in a store and offers to get them help. and they have to want help, they have to want to leave. don’t make them go back because they think they’ll change, they never changed any time before, why would they now?
if at any point you’re thinking, why would they stay in this relationship? you need to answer that question. find the answer and make it obvious in the writing, so that your reader isn’t sitting there going, “but why are they staying? they should just walk out the door.”

Hi Anouther. The dude with the paraphilia dilemma is back here.
What you told me really helped soothe the pain I had inside of me, pain that had been there for a long long time. I told two of my closest friends about it, and they were accepting of it and told me it's okay and that they know I'm not the kind of person that would hurt someone or something, and that they still love me. I did break crying and apologized for doing what I did, speaking of the situation with the real life porn and the things I did when I was young. We all agreed that, in the end, I didn't hurt anyone myself, and I am not going to go back into that type of content never in my life, so I shouldn't worry about hurting anyone, for I won't do it.
I miswrote something on the last ask and I wanted to clarify that, but you're right and I do know there are anti contact paraphiles who do not think that harming people or animals is alright, I wouldn't want you to think I think otherwise, but I did miswrite it and gave the opposite impression. Like I said, I still am and will always be supportive of paraphiles and I am aware they do not choose their attraction. Actions are what matter.
Thank you, for bringing some sort of peace into my life. I don't think I would've dared to open up to my friends about it otherwise, and I would've lived for a long time thinking I deserved to be hated, or worse and that I deserved to die, for things I did when I was young. Guilt is something I've struggled with for issues other than this one, and I know that it's a hard thing to get over, if you ever get over it at all, but this is a step. I still want my other friends to know, but I think I'm calm about two of them knowing for now. I want to live at ease, with a clear conscience and with honesty, and you've helped me give one step towards mental peace, if it really exists, and I like to thing it does, for all humans everywhere.
This is not the last time you'll hear about me, for I am actually a friend of yours, a mutual. I didn't dare come off anon because I'm still kind of ashamed, but I wanted you to know that I am a friend, and you're a beloved friend of mine, despite the fact that we do not speak that much. I owe you, and I know you didn't offer me kind words or acceptance or gentleness in search of payment, but I am still grateful for them and if you ever need anything from me, I'll be there.
Hi friend :) I'm very glad I could help and have that kind of positive impact on you.
I'm also proud of you for opening up to your friends, I can only imagine how difficult it must have felt in the moment. I'm happy you have good friends who are kind and understanding enough not to judge you for what happened in the past.
Thank you for clarifying your intent ^^ I know it can be easy to accidentally imply something you don't mean/believe. Language is hard haha
It's good to move past guilt, and I think very difficult. Guilt is a very complicated emotion, and it takes a lot of work to fully be rid of a heavy guilt burden. But every step counts.
You are not obligated to come off anon if you do not want to, always remember to put your safety and comfort first. ESPECIALLY on the internet where people can be cruel behind a facade of anonymity. Sometimes it is better for peace of mind to get things off your chest without publicly connecting them to yourself; and this is a large part of why I keep anon asks on despite some of the very insane hatemail I get.
I appreciate the offer ^^ but to be honest with you, I'm not a selfless helper. I like to help others because it allows me to improve someone's life and actually actively do something with the skills and knowledge I have. One, because there are a lot of things I am not able to fix in my life due to factors outside of my control entirely-- helping others lends a helpful distraction and ability to exercise power in a useful way where I can. And two, because I get bored and boredom is among the most awful things to feel. Hearing about other people's problems can be interesting, and doubly giving advice or comfort can be engaging and flex my frankly underused brain muscles a bit.
If and when I die, maybe I have motivated even one person to live more freely, happily, etc. I do not plan to have children. If I die before my writing can reach very many people, that legacy is in the wind. But having helped someone is a legacy that will carry even if I die tomorrow. And I've always been ambitious, so I am very much interested in leaving something behind for many years to come. I don't need to be remembered when I die, but I want the universe to remember my spirit in the echo of cause and effect.

A Long, Interminable Ramble About The Act Of Continuing To Run These Keeping The Narrator Company Livestreams
Something I've been trying to address within myself and finally puzzle out why I feel the exact way that I do is the question of why I feel so foolish for doing these streams, despite enjoying it, and despite being told multiple times by more than one person that they find the act of me doing this inspiring.
I think I might have finally managed to pinpoint the cause and put it into words. I typed all of this up in chat not too long ago, but I wanted to put it out in a slightly more permanent form that won't get so easily lost in the shuffle of the chat.
If it wasn't painfully obvious by now, I deeply admire TSP, but I'm also terrified of it. It sparks the imagination in me like no other and yet I also view it as a deeply cynical, deeply depressing game, and I always feel like I'm just waiting for that cynical shoe to drop and rob me of this joyful spark that's inspired me to create all of these amateur works of mine.
To me, Ultra Deluxe feels like a far more subtle and insidious escalation of the player VS dev violence of the OG game. You are forced to put the narrator through something far worse than the zending and real person ending combined. Something that I consider to be easily the most profound act of cruelty a game has ever forced me to commit, to the point that the only answer I could come up with to the moral dilemma it may or may not pose is to sit in the skip button room forever, refusing to press it even though the game wasn't programmed to acknowledge that choice.
There is inevitably a lot of embarrassment within myself for doing this, because at the end of the day literally all I'm doing is running down the lifespan of my PS4 for no in-game benefit. I've become less insecure about the act of doing this, but that lingering feeling of foolishness is inevitable. Still, I came to realize something over the course of doing this. I could watch a million movies or read a million books about a character meeting a fate worse than death, but only through the interactive medium of video games could someone like me go 'oh, hell naw!' to being forced to put a character through a fate worse than death and decide that I'd rather try to live that experience out with him, even if the outcome cannot be changed. No book or movie could allow me to turn that into a communal activity like the act of streaming this has become.
To continue with my point about player VS dev violence, what follows after is the bucket, and while I personally find the wacky antics of the bucket endings fun and fulfilling in their own right, especially in what they may or may not imply about the narrator as a character, they are seemingly meant to feel like an unfulfilling FU to those who wanted more OG TSP out of UD and thus the discontent from a lot of people who played it.
This all accumulates in the epilogue. While the figurine ending at least seems to give a nice end point to the narrator as a character and for the player to call it quits, the epilogue throws something entirely different in your face and comes off as a final sort of FU as seemingly an end point to the player VS dev violence where you both have ripped yourself to pieces until literally nothing is left. It seemingly ends on a point where the devs have reached total creative destruction and the player themselves is left with nothing but to keep making more soulless content in their place. Thus why it all feels so hopeless and cynical.
And that's probably why I feel so deeply insecure about engaging with this game on this level. I feel as if I've willfully allowed myself to become the butt of some secret joke, and despite the fun and creative joy I get out of it, it feels as if it is only a matter of time before the cynical shoe drops because there was never any hope. I only project hope onto this game.
Depending on how the person viewing the stream themselves view TSP, they can see it as an act of hope and defiance, or they see all of the stuff TSP says about getting too caught up in it and that the best action is to not play it at all and they see someone making an absolute fool of themselves and 'fail' at playing TSP in a profoundly embarrassing long-form content sort of way. Can ya tell why that might make me feel a bit insecure and embarrassed?
Knowing that there are no objective answers to TSP, only questions, mystery, and nonsense, I have been working on trying to let 'MY' truth stand without letting anyone else and their interpretations dictate my own or destroy it, but that can be hard by the mere nature of what I'm doing.
Ironically, you can kind of see the evolution of my thought process about the player/dev relationship through my work, or more like the audience/storyteller relationship. For the longest time I though that the ultimate goal should be for Stanley and the narrator to find freedom away from each other because they seem so inherently toxic to each other, with there maybe being the hope that they can come together again someday in a more healthy way. That was what my first two TSP fics dealt with.
These days I see them more as two halves of the same whole, and for them to try and get away from each other is to deny a fundamental part of themselves. They fall apart not because their butting heads rips each other apart, but because they view it as an act of trying to escape the other, which only leads to a creatively dead land of utter isolation. I see their push and pull not as inherently toxic, but the creative process of being inspired by one another. Thus my newest TSP fic, On The Nature Of Infinity.
And ironically, despite my views shifting over time, that does not necessarily make the two Fate Of The Narrator fics of mine no longer 'canonical' to my current view of TSP. The whole point of those two stories was a reparation of the relationship between audience and author by the author functionally becoming the protagonist of the story for a little while. It ended with the narrator heading off to find Stanley again so that they hopefully can come together again in a far more kinder manner.
And what is the act of these streams if not exactly that? A willingness to be playful with this game in a completely unexpected way the devs didn't even account for. Being inspired and hopefully generating more creative inspiration through the act of doing something so absurd. The problem is, as always, I don't know the true authorial intent behind any of this, and the game is so deeply cynical at its core that where I view it as creatively butting heads with this game and what it presents, I can also see the devs silently watching all of this from the shadows and having a good laugh at this idiot. Thus that feeling like the shoe could drop at any moment, and in that very TSP way, instead of it being a creative butting of heads, it is in actuality still a destruction of creativity where something will happen and all of this creative energy of mine is destroyed just as violently as the epilogue seems to imply that is the case for the devs.
Thus why I keep saying I cannot imagine the game having any response to any of this but a mocking one. Regardless, I'm glad for the non-TSP related inspiration and encouragement these streams have generated. It means the time I've shaved off of my PS4's lifespan has not been in vain lol.
I guess it is a very narrator-like thing to be paralyzed by the choices you can make, but unlike him, I made the choice to do this thing despite the conflicting feelings it causes for me in not knowing if I'm doing something of value or just making myself look like an idiot.
And I should note that I do not view running these streams as a burden. I would not be doing this at all if I did not enjoy doing it. The act of doing this keeps me in a creative headspace. Thus you get things like the skip button room cat cam lmao.
And since the topic occasionally comes up, I really don't want anyone bothering the devs about these streams. It sounds like they want to move on from TSP and these streams could very easily come off as a subtle badgering of them to keep making more new TSP. Would I love for them to go back and add something for waiting in the skip button room? Of course. But I also respect their artistic intent and the fact that I don't know the actual thought process that went into any of this. I mean no disrespect in doing this nor am I trying to bulldoze over the actual artistic intent of this thing with my own.
Thus, I really don't want anyone badgering them to take note of this stream or change the skip button ending merely because I'm doing this stream. These are the people that have literal real world callout posts in their game in the form of stuff like the Raphael trailer and motherfucking Cookie9, so I would very much enjoy it if I did not to end up in that pantheon because the act of doing these streams caused people to annoy them so much they, I dunno, drop a patch personally calling me an idiot or something lol. I'm a literal nobody and I'd like to stay that way than end up acknowledged in such a way that feeds into the deep cynicism that runs through the game.

One thing about this game that really irks me is how Laura keeps saying how the werewolves “aren’t people” but is never really challenged on it. The game doesn’t want to talk about it either since Laura rudely asks Ryan if he “really wants to talk about ethics now” on the way to the mansion if you’re rude to her and enforces the idea that “we’re not killing Chris Hackett, we’re killing a werewolf.” I know the game’s supposed to be campy 80s horror but I just wish it explored this topic in full
this is actually a very great thing to bring up, ive never really considered it as anything more than a comfort thing. as something to make laura feel better about what she feels she has to do
i can absolutely see where shes coming from and why she says what she says, but you're right, that sort of thinking is definitely flawed. especially in the grand scheme of things. because yeah sure you're killing a werewolf but literally SECONDS later they transform back to human form.... and THEN you'll be forced to face reality. maybe there's no irl "equivalent" to this kind of situation, but going into it deeper wouldn't have hurt anyone. in fact, it would have been quite interesting, now that you mention it!
the idea that theres a chance where the creature nd antagonist of the game is actually someone you know nd love? only for a short amount of time too? meaning its not even permanent??? like. which is more important, yr own safety or that of yr loved ones (despite it being a gamble every time a werewolf enters view)? it's a fantastic concept. and yet they didn't really deliver, as you said
and like.... the one time they COULDVE done more with that topic (albeit w/ different characters) was with emma... when she gets bit in ch 4 and transforms in the van in ch 8? kaitlyn's able to shoot and kill her and yet. the game. doesn't have it so she and dylan find emma's body afterwards? they don't make them have that moment of. oh... i literally just killed my friend. like yes she did essentially kill only a werewolf but there's still someone BEHIND that werewolf, yk? and that someone is someone who she's spent the last 2 months living with and befriending
they do have kaitlyn be like "what if it's nick?" to which dylan responds with "what if it's not." which is a valid view, sure, but even if it were someone they didn't know, that's still a human person????
if Only the game presented and applied that specific dilemma to the characters more... bc even kaitlyn during her fight with caleb... i find it interesting that NO one ever had a moment of. ....i just shot and killed a person. like YEAH the person in question was under a different form and ATTACKING but, there's no way that still isn't in the back of their minds eating away at them yk?
the same thing can apply to silas too! and it's interesting to me because if you choose to not lift yr gun, laura DOES have a moment of "this is a boy im about to kill" but that's kind of IT........ so we KNOW that she understands theres a person behind the werewolf. but because there's no huge spotlight put on it in general, or shown to have been a problem for laura before, it doesn't really like. matter? it appears so. little. in comparison to everything else, i mean
the difference between chris and silas for laura was obv. max. but it is irritating how laura holds a certain view for chris' situation and a different one for silas'. especially when it's only seen in ONE potential choice during that scene. maybe it was to show laura's complexity nd duality, but i mainly think it was. poor writing. they should've made that predicament, that battle of morality, a bigger thing, for laura, for kaitlyn, for everyone
so, yeah, in the end it's never "just" a werewolf. in relation to chris, to someone like laura MAYBE, but to someone else, like ryan, it's just. not
