Peter and reader are on a date, but reader feels nauseous. But, reader doesn’t want to tell Peter because a: they’ve both been super busy lately between Spider-Man duties and college and/or work and b: because even if reader won’t admit it, being vulnerable and being taken care of kind of scares them. But Peter finds out/figured it out and wants to help and fluff ensues.

hey pie anon! i hope this is okay and i'm sorry it's months late! I forgot it was in my drafts :')

You realise something is wrong when you’re only a quarter of the way through your pizza and Peter is over half way through his.

You feel sick. Or at the very least least like you might be - nausea brewing uncomfortably in your stomach as you take small bites of your food.

Your boyfriend chats away opposite you, blissfully unaware that you've started to feel queasy, so you plaster a smile on your face and swallow hard. The two of you have been incredibly busy for the past few days between your work and his vigilante duties, and the last thing you want to do is ruin the first peaceful moment you’ve had together. You can tell how much Peter has needed a little normalcy. The thought of ruining it because you’re feeling a little off feels incredibly selfish.

Beyond that, you're not used to letting people take care of you, and though Peter has told you countless times that he likes doing it, you can never quite dislodge uncomfortable feeling of vulnerability that blooms in you whenever he does. Letting yourself be loved, allowing Peter to look after you when you're not feeling too well - they're processes. You've been trying to work on them for a while, but it's difficult. It always has been.

You’re just trying to rub at your chest discreetly when Peter looks up at you from his almost empty plate.

"Everything okay?"

"Yes! Yeah, everything is fine." Your reply comes out wobbly and you only realise afterwards that you’ve made too much of an effort to sound alright. You smile at Peter through gritted teeth and try foolishly to convince yourself that if you pretend the nausea doesn't exist, it'll go.

Peter doesn’t look like he believes you for a second.

"Are you sure? Do you not like your pizza?" He pushes his own plate towards you as if it's the easiest thing ever, offering you his last two slices. "Here, baby. We can swap."

The tender easiness in the gesture very nearly makes you want to cry. Peter Parker might just be the loveliest boy you’ve ever known.

"No, Peter it's okay. My pizza is good,” your hands shifts slightly to rub against your abdomen, Peter tracks your movements cautiously. “I'm just kinda full I think.”

Your boy raises an eyebrow at your barely eaten pizza but nods, never one to push you for explanations.

"I'll ask for the bill and a box to take the rest home. We can have the ice cream in the freezer when we get back. How's that sound?"

The thought of ice cream makes you feel queasy, but Peter seems so hopeful and he's looked so tired and sad in the past few days that you cant help but indulge him.

Once you’ve gotten the bill and packed your leftover pizza into a takeaway box, Peter takes your hand in his and guides you out of the restaurant.

New York City in the evening is a sensory nightmare, but your nausea does abate slightly thanks to the fresh air. You catch Peter looking down at you and stamp an awkward smile on your face.

"Home?" He squeezes your fingers gently.

Your stomach churns at the thought of having to go so far, but Peter is looking at you like you've hung the moon and the stars - the journey home feels a little more bearable with him by your side.

"Yes please."

"You okay to walk?"

"I'm fine, Peter. I promise."

"No, you're not, baby. And that's okay, you don't have to tell me what's wrong if you don’t want to. Just let me take care of you."

You sigh, resigned. You don't even know why you tried to hide it from him. Peter can quite literally hear your heartbeat, of course he was going to clock that you're not feeling too well.

Peter keeps his body angled towards yours as the two of you walk, and you soon realise that he's shielding you the best he can from the light around you and all the bodies rushing past. It's a small gesture, one that he might not even realise he's doing, but makes your chest flutter pleasantly

Then, just as you think that maybe the nausea is easing up, another wave of discomfort overwhelms you and you stumble.

Fortunately Peter catches your wrist just before you can do any real damage, balancing your pizza box in his free hand. He helps you back up easily, his fingers a warm pressure on your skin.

"Woah. Hey, hey, sweetheart. Let's just stop for a second, hm?"

You are mortified, and very sorry about how inconvenient you're being but when Peter pulls you to a stop, you oblige. Tears swarming in your eyes, you make one last ditch attempt at snuffing out the discomfort by pushing your face into the soft sweatshirt your boyfriend is wearing.

You feel him go still and for one horrible millisecond, you think he's going to push you away, but then Peter’s body relaxes and he presses you against him softly, almost as if he's afraid to hurt you.

You mumble into his chest. "I'm really sorry."

"It's okay, you don't have to apologise," his lips are soft against the crown of your head. "You're good. Let's take a moment, alright?"

You nod, sniffing slightly.

"We're nearly there. Just a few more blocks to go."

Something like a whine gets stuck in your throat and Peter coos gently, a hand coming up to cup the back of your head. “I know. You’re alright, honey. I've got you.”

You straighten up after a few seconds, aware that this is not at all what he signed up for when the two of you left the house, and Peter frowns a little.

"You can lean into me, baby. You're not a bother."

And you do know, because he's said it to you countless times before in different variations. I like being there for you. You don't have to apologise. I'm here for you, it's kinda in the boyfriend job description.

Peter doesn’t have to repeat himself. When he nudges you closer, you lean in.

Once you’re at home, Peter lets go of you carefully, never taking his eyes off you as he reaches into his jacket pocket and pull out the keys to let you both in.

He places the pizza box on the microwave in the kitchen before following you through down the corridor, a hand ghosting the small of your back. When you reach the bedroom, he dims the lights.

You sit on the bed gingerly. Peter sits next to you.

"How are you feeling?" Peter asks.

You’re quiet for a while. Then, a small admission;

"I feel really nauseous Peter." You avoid his gaze. "It started in the restaurant. I don't... I don't know what's wrong."

Peter is silent for a beat. You take it as a sign that you've said something wrong.

"It's fine though. I'm sorry for ruining the meal. I know you were looking forward to this." your voice is hoarse. "I’m really sorry."

When you muster the courage to look up at him, Peter looks horrified.

"Baby, what are you talking about? You didn't ruin anything. It's okay." His hand comes up to brush at your jawline. "I got to spend time with my best girl. I feel like the luckiest guy alive."

You think he might be exaggerating just to make you smile, but there's real sincerity in his tone. "Do you want pain relief? Some ginger tea, maybe?"

Right now, you only want Peter.

"Can we just cuddle for a bit, please?"

"Oh, my girl." Peter is already pulling you down so that you're lying against his chest. "C'mere."

🤎 when in doubt, knock out the drive by @curseofaphrodite is packed with chaos and I love it. It's a Tasm! Peter Parker x Reader and it's about them being the #1 duo. I am a sucker for chaotic friendships and you MUST to check this one. 🤎 avengers reacting to reader eating a whole lemon by @mattymattymerduck also brought in a few chuckles from me. You can already guess from the title what it's already about. It's more of a drabble than a fanfic but still very good.

Peter Parker fic and the reader with mind reading abilities. Throughout the whole fic it's just peter trying to hide his alter ego from the reader all the while she already knows and it's just so good. 🤎Lingering by @someplace-darker. state of grace: chapter one— all we know is touch and go.

a/n; hi! welcome to the first fic of this four (?) part series. i just got this random idea when i was listening to taylor swift. like and reblog if you enjoy it!

you weren't sure why, but for some reason, spiderman has chosen you as his go-to doctor. so when you heard tapping on your window at two in the morning, you weren't shocked to see a masked man on the other side of it. it was almost an every night thing. he would come to your house, leave his mask on, have you clean up the wounds on his stomach, and leave.

you didn't know who he was. you had never seen his face, you didn't know what color his eyes were, you knew he had brown hair but only because of his happy trail that you saw every time you cleaned him up. he knew your name, you weren't sure you would ever find out his.

opening the window, you frowned. he was having a hard time coming in on his own, so you reached out your hand for his gloved one. the masked man gladly accepted, and you pulled him in with all of your strength. "bad night?" you asked him, a small smile on your face.

"it was alright. sorry it's so late. did i wake you?" he asked.

you shook your head, "actually, no. i was up reading. i couldn't sleep.”

his head tilted, "aww, were you worried about me?" he teased but was immediately regretting it when he winced right after.

you were. "is your neck alright?" you ask, concerned it was more than just a scratch this time.

he nodded, "just a cut, nothing big, sweetheart." it wasn't until you met him that you realized you could fall in love with someone without even knowing who they were.

"o-okay," you stuttered, "let’s get you cleaned up.”

"no. no, i'm alright. i just wanted to see you." he said. you couldn't see his face, but you could hear him smile.

your head tilted in confusion, "but you looked hurt when you came in.”

he laughed, "i hit my knee, y/n. it’ll be better by tomorrow.”

"okay. then why did you want to see me?”

"i don't know. just wanted to hear your voice. talk to me," he requested, sitting down on your bed. you had never asked the masked man to reveal his identity. you never tried to get him to take his mask off in order to clean him up. you wanted him to trust you enough to do it on his own. you think that should end tonight. "hey, come on. what are you thinking about?”

"why can't i know who you are?" you knew him. you knew his touch, you knew his body, and you knew his laugh. you just didn't know who he was, and curiosity was killing you.

he breathed in, "well. if you knew who i was, then people who wanted to hurt me would hurt you. if something happened to you, i wouldn't know what to do." he spoke to you softly.

you sat down next to him, "yeah, but i can handle myself, spidey. why can't you just take your mask off?”

"i know you can handle yourself, but i can't put you in danger, sweetheart."

"see, that! you say that i can't know who you are, but then you go on flirting with me, expecting me not to be curious. how is that fair?" you question, raising your voice slightly.

spiderman stood up, "y/n, will you please just take a breath for me? i can't expose you to the risk, okay? i would love for you to know who i am, but i care about you too much for you to get hurt because of who i am." he explained.

"i just want to know who you are. why is it so hard for you to tell me.”

the boy was getting frustrated now, "i don't understand why this is all of a sudden a problem. i’ve known you for almost a year now, and you just now have a problem with it. jesus christ, i’m trying to keep you safe." it was his turn to raise his voice, and you didn't like it at all.

you stood up and opened your window, letting the cold outside air in, "i’d like you to leave now, please.”

"sweetheart..." he trailed off, reaching out to you. your eyes filled with tears, “please don't cry,” he begged, “i'm sorry i snapped at you, i am-”

you cut him off, “i don't know why you don't trust me enough to tell me. i won't tell anyone, i promise” your voice was cracking and the tears that were previously welling in your eyes were now streaming down your cheeks.

he takes a deep breath, seemingly trying to calm down, “it's not that i don't trust you, okay? i do… okay? i swear i do. i also care about you, though. i know that you can handle yourself, but i can barely beat the people that hate me,” he takes your hand. “eventually, when i know i can keep you safe, i’ll tell you. then, when you know who i am, i’ll ask you to be my girlfriend and we can live happily ever after.”

you take your hand back, “i don't want that, spidey. i want you to trust-”

you were cut off by the mystery man's loud, rough voice, “it’s not that i don't fucking trust you, y/n. why can't you just see that? i mean seriously, i come here because i care about you, i come here because i trust you, and you won't believe me when i say that,” he stops for a minute to catch his breath, “i don't understand, y/n, seriously.” you flinch backwards, “i’m sorry, sweetheart. i’m sorry.”

you shake your head, walking toward the window, “please leave, spidey. please.” you speak, wiping the tears off your face.

“y/n, i’m sorry.” he begs, desperate to go back to five minutes ago before you were mad at him. “please just forget it all happened.”

“take off your mask.” you demand, not willing to hear him out. he looks down and you know his answer.

“then get out.”

Summary: You only have a couple minutes left and you still have to say goodbye.

You should have listened to Peter when he told you not to go on that road trip alone. You didn't want to put it off. A member of your family was going through a difficult situation and you had to be there for support. Your home was 3 states away from where you lived with Peter so it would be a long road trip, you hated planes so you went by car.

It's too late now to regret it.

"I don't like the idea of you going alone. Let me come with you." Begs your boyfriend as you pack your suitcase in the car.

"You know you can't, you have a thesis to present and I can't keep putting it off. My family needs me, Peter."

"I know they need you. I'm not telling you not to go but please take me with you." He takes your hand.

"I'll be fine." You kiss his lips and get into the car.

The smell of blood now flooded your nostrils and your ears endured a ringing that seemed to have no end.

Breathing burned. Your lungs begged for oxygen but it felt like a burn every time you gave it to them.

You had no reason for time or space. You had no idea why everything looked so blurry. Maybe it's a dream, one of those many bad dreams you've had.

There is a face in front of you. A young man with a bloody forehead and nose. You want to ask him if he's okay but you're too stunned to utter a word.

You know he's saying something by the way his lips are moving but you can't hear it, yet.

Your brow is furrowed. You try to bring yourself back to the here and now. ~Concentrate, y/n.

"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I'm really sorry." You manage to finally hear what the young man says and pick up his phone to call an ambulance. You don't look at all well. "Can you hear me? Are you okay?" He tries to get your attention.

"I can't move," you mumble. The more you regain consciousness, the more you notice the terrible pain in your head and in your stomach. Right in your right side.

"Yes, yes she's conscious but she's on the tarmac. It's very dark, I can't see anything." The stranger sobs next to you. "You have to come now, please." He mumbles an address you can't make out and focuses his gaze on you. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." He moves his free hand towards you but regrets it just before he touches you.

"Hey, take it easy." You try to stay calm for both of us. "What's your name?"

"Tyler" he replies wiping his nose and puts the phone aside as soon as the call cuts off.

"Tyler, it's y/n." You make a great effort to speak. Only one of you can move and that's not you so you do your best to calm him down.

"Are the paramedics coming?" You look him in the eye and feel your side twinge.

"The call went dead." He explains. "The girl on the phone said to stay calm."

"Did you give them our location?" you ask hopefully.

"Yes, I did. They said they would send someone as soon as possible but the call was cut off."

You close your eyes for a moment trying to let the pain subside but it only gets worse. "Try calling them again and stay with whoever answers the phone while they arrive."

Tyler nods and after a few tries manages to connect the call. The girl behind the phone asks him to describe what he sees and that's when you get an idea of how bad it is.

The front window of your car is broken. You were thrown out because of a seatbelt failure. Your leg looks broken, according to Tyler, and worst of all, there's a pool of blood coming out of your right side. That explains the stinging you feel.

"That's not good, is it?" You ask trying to hope. The paramedics will arrive and everything will be fine.

"The girl says to put my hands on your wound and keep them there until the paramedics arrive." Tyler moves his hands and asks permission before placing them on your wound making you cry out in pain. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He repeats over and over.

"It's okay," you try to control your breathing and feel your eyes roll back in your head.

The girl on the other end of the phone, now in a loud voice, asks Tyler not to stop talking to you and he does. You must stay conscious.

You respond a few times to his nervous attempt at conversation, tell him about your life and try to focus on something beyond the pain.

Minutes pass. Many minutes. Forty minutes, to be exact, and still no sign of help.

Your body feels weak and keeping your eyes open becomes increasingly difficult. That's when you remember how far you were from the nearest town or city when you had the accident and reality hits you in the face.

"Tyler?" You put your hands on top of his looking for some warmth. You're cold. it's cold.

"Yes?" he replies almost immediately.

"What does the ambulance girl say?" You ask.

"That we should wait a little longer. Help is on its way," he says with feigned assurance. He tries to convince himself that the paramedics will arrive on time.

"I need your help with something." Tyler nods for you to continue. "Please look for my phone in my car and call Peter. He's my boyfriend." You ask. Now you understand you're on borrowed time.

"No, the girl said my hands are the only thing that stops the bleeding long enough for help to arrive. I'm not moving." He denies.

"Please." You beg, feeling an immense urge to cry but you're too weak to do so. "We're in the middle of nowhere and, look at me, I don't have much time left."

"No, please. They're going to come and you're going to be fine." he cries again inconsolably. He knows you're right.

"Tyler, please," you plead with every ounce of strength you have left. "I don't want to leave without saying goodbye."

The young man hesitates, not wanting to take his hands away and then regret it. But he feels so guilty about the accident that he agrees and reaches for your phone.

One ring, two rings, on the third ring, Peter answers the call. Tyler puts the speakerphone on and puts his hands back on your side.

"Love, are you coming back? Did you stop for lunch?" Peter asks through the speaker.

"Peter..." you smile sadly at the sound of his voice and feel tears well up in your eyes.

"Is everything alright? You don't sound so good." The concern in his voice is noticeable.

"Peter, I had an accident on the way home. You get straight to the point, you have no time to waste. "It doesn't look very-" you cut off your coughing breath and the metallic taste of blood floods your mouth. "It doesn't look good for me."

"Wh-what?" you hear her breathing hitch. "Where are you? I'll come right away. Tell me where you are," he asks.

"I'm far away, Pete," you murmur and close your eyes to rest for a moment, just a moment. "I don't have much time left."

"What about the paramedics? Are you alone? I'll call 911," you hear the keys on the phone in your shared flat click and you open your eyes again.

"I'm with Tyler, he was in the accident with me and he's looking after me" you smile weakly at him. "But we're so far away from everything, love. I don't want to waste my last minutes talking about how far away the paramedics are." You plead.

"Don't say that, please. You're going to be fine" He reasons as fast as he can. He's still processing the information.

"I love you, Peter Parker. I love you with every fiber in my body." You struggle to hold on a little longer. Just a few more minutes, please.

Peter walks out into the street and gets into a taxi.

"I'll track your phone. I'm going to find you. You're not going to die, okay?" You hear his voice crack.

"Remember that summer at the beach when we saw that family playing ball?" You change the subject.

"Y/n..." tries to stop you from speaking but you continue.

"You said you wanted a family as happy as that." You smile at the memory. "A wedding, two or three kids, a little house in the suburbs, a job from home so you could spend time with the kids, and a Golden Retriever for a pet." You feel tears running down your cheeks. "I would have loved to have been able to give you all that, it was my dream too."

"We will. We will, just-" he takes a big breath of air so you he doesn't collapse in the taxi. "Hang in there."

Peter would have preferred to swing but there are no buildings outside the city and he would have had to hang up the call. He wasn't going to hang it up for the world.

"I'm sorry I argued with you about that new TV. I love our movie Fridays." You admit. "It wasn't an unnecessary expense."

"I know. I bought it for you," he sobs. This can't be the end.

"Little May and little Ben would have loved movie Fridays too. Especially since their dad would have made the richest and weirdest popcorn combinations." You laugh before coughing again and spitting up blood.

"May and Ben are the best names" he laughs sadly. "Y/n please, I can't lose you too. You're all I have left" you hear him crying on the other end of the phone. It's clear he's not trying to control himself anymore.

"I'll love you even when I'm gone" you whisper and leave your eyes closed for a longer period of time.

"Please open your eyes, y/n" Tyler moves your face with one of his hands and you open your eyes again.

"Listen to him, don't close your eyes," your boyfriend denies into the phone. He has never felt so helpless in his entire life.

"I'm tired" you fix your blurred gaze on the phone lying on the tarmac next to you.

"You can't leave, not like this" he wipes away his tears and tries to control his breathing but it's unavoidable. "I have to marry you..." he pleads.

"If you want me to marry you you have to ask me first" you joke.

"Will you marry me?" Peter asks between sobs as he thinks about the box with a ring hidden in his old Spiderman uniforms. He was going to ask you very soon, he didn't expect it to be like this.

"Yes and a thousand times yes," you smile with your eyes closed but open them again to look at Tyler. "Did you hear that, Tyler? I'm getting married." You say with as much excitement as you can muster. "You're invited to the wedding." You mumble closing your eyes again.

They stay open too little time, they're too heavy.

"You can take the ring out of your uniform box now," you mutter lower and lower.

"Did you know that?" your boyfriend asks in surprise.

"I know all about it, my super hero" your breathing slows down.

Peter looks at his phone. There are miles between you. He won't make it in time.

"No, you're the super hero. It's always been you," he presses the phone to his ear. "I love you, Y/n y/l/n."

"I love you too, Peter," you murmur almost inaudibly. "Can I ask you something?" You use the last of your strength to speak a little louder.

"Whatever" Parker nods quickly.

"Promise me that you won't stop looking for love and that you'll try to be happy even if it's not with me." You say earnestly.

"I can't do-" you stop him before he says anything else.

"Promise me, Peter. Please promise me. I have to hear you say it."

Peter swallows hard. He doesn't want to do anything you just said. How could he be happy without you? But nevertheless, he responds.

"I promise," he says before bursting into tears again.

This can't be goodbye.

You're exhausted, you don't think you can keep your eyes open for much longer. A few seconds pass and all you hear is Peter's sobs on the other end of the line.

"Y/n?" he asks but you don't answer. You vaguely hear him but the voice is getting further and further away. "No no no no, y/n answer. Please" exclaims your boyfriend. "Don't go" he clenches the phone tightly in his hand.

Endless memories flash through your mind. You are glad that they are happy for the most part.

Is this what it feels like to die? At least you were able to say Goodbye.

ok so I stumbled upon this while I was in class and I was bored so I thought let's give it a go until I get to go home. terrible idea because I was holding my cries, can you believe it? this fic stole my heart and it's so well-written, I don't think there's anything like it, it talks about loss and grieving in the most realistic way possible, I almost felt inserted into the story. plz go read it it will be so worth it.
