Throughout Infinity - Chapter 3
WC: 1932
Immortal Alliance Conference Part 1
The journey towards the Immortal Alliance Conference was dull, Shen Jiu glumly thought.
It was only his respect for the Peak’s honor and his own reputation that he didn't give in and yell in frustration. Who had thought it a good idea to stick a group of young cultivators in carriages for an extended period of time? Many of his fellow disciples were already bored out of their mind, playing simple games and gossiping were all they had to occupy themselves. There weren't many topics that weren't already spoken about, and being in the company of bored disciples was just unpleasant. Hearing Gao Qiangda brag about his assured success in the competition for three days in a row got tiring after the second time.
Not to mention Xin Xingfu chatting his ear off. What Shen Jiu wouldn't do to swap Xin Xingfu with Xiang Mei. At least she would know when to back off. This carriage was going to make him go insane!
After two weeks worth of travel, they still didn't arrive at their destination. The same, unchanging landscape flew by for the past three days, just looking gave him a headache. The only excitement they see is when demons got too close to the procession and were cut down. Unfortunately, it was done quickly, so not much entertainment could come from it.
Why had he agreed to even attend the Conference, for goodness sake? He hasn't been cultivating for long enough to attend, not to mention the limited slots on who could attend.
Ah, he remembers why now. His Shifu was the one who entered him into the competition.
He let out a sigh, his cheek resting on his hand while he looked out the window and into the distance, ruminating about the day that led to this situation…
——
“What?!” He exclaimed, rearing back, shocked to hear those words coming out of his Shifu’s mouth. Shen Jiu quickly schooled his face into a neutral expression, mind whirling to thoughts of why his Shifu would want him to go.
Quan Jigui's eyes softened, his mouth twitching in restrained laughter, though it was hidden with a quick wave of his fan.
“Was I unclear?” He questioned, slowly fanning his face.
“I am honored to be chosen to represent Qing Jing Peak, it is just…” he paused, thinking on how to get his stance across clearly, worrying his lower lip. He unconsciously palmed his robes before realizing what he was doing and quickly smoothing it out. “Are there no other candidates?”
“You are one of my most promising students, of course I would want you to go.” Quan Jigui spoke softly, watching his disciple’s face turn red.
“I—” Shen Jiu began, pleased to have his Shifu's considerations.
“I trust that you will properly represent Qing Jing Peak, yes?” An intense look came upon Quan Jigui's face, he wanted his disciple to take this seriously.
Determination flashed over Shen Jiu’s face as he clenched his fist before being replaced with a neutral expression. “Of course!”
“Thanking Shifu for the opportunity.” He clasped his hands together, palm over fist, above his chest, bowing down for a moment. He wouldn't let his Shifu down.
——
He was jolted out of his memories by Xin Xingfu scrambling over him to reach the window. “I see it!” He shouted, grabbing the rest of the carriage’s attention. Many hurried over to the windows, eager to grab a peek of their destination. Distant multicolored flags fluttering in the wind was all that could be seen.
Shen Jiu was quickly squashed in between Xin Xingfu and the window, letting out a cry of surprise. Xin Xingfu kneeled over as Shen Jiu’s elbow dug into his ribs to dislodge him. Succeeding, he tossed his shixiong off of himself with a huff.
“Ow! You're such a mean shidi, abusing your shixiongs~!” He pouted, recovering from the attack on his ribs. The comment earned him a look of disgust from Shen Jiu before he turned away from his shixiong.
The procession eventually came to an end, carriages being quickly emptied in favor of studying their surroundings. They stopped at a seemingly random mountain range were it not for the gaping gorge that split the land. A large area of the terrain was decorated in colorful tents that housed the multitude of flags that were seen from the distance. At the edge of the gorge, a high tower resided, a place for those who were not participating to watch the competition.
The border of the gorge was slowly being filled with thousands of people arriving from all over the cultivation world. From no named sects to giants such as Huan Hua sect, many were vying for the opportunity to get their name out.
As Shen Jiu and other Qing Jing Peak disciples were being herded to the gorge, a hand suddenly grabbed his arm. He turned around, expecting to see Xiang Mei, seeing as she would be the only one bold enough to grab him. (Excluding Xin Xingfu, of course, since he already ran ahead.)
However, the one holding on to his arm was someone he didn't know. A person, most likely a young man due to the cut of his robes, seemed to be staring at him through their weimao(1). Their pale robes, accentuated by silver embroidery, flowed around them. The weimao, which Shen Jiu wondered how the person could even see through the thick fabric, fluttered in the wind and exposed a sliver of the person's pale skin.
Shen Jiu stood mystified for a couple seconds before he wrenched his arm out of their grip, taking a few steps back. Frowning, he asked, “Do you handle every person you first meet like this?”
(He should know this person, a small part of his mind thinks.
That thought was quickly smothered.)
His hand inched towards his fan, gripping it in his hand. At the same time, the person stood still, seemingly bewildered by their own action as they stared at their hand.
The person quickly put their hands up, palms facing Shen Jiu, before laughing out, “My bad, my bad~. It seems like I had the wrong person.”
He—the voice was masculine, confirming Shen Jiu’s theory—cocked his head dramatically, placing it on his waiting palms, as if to say ‘What else could I have done?’
Shen Jiu pursed his lips, staring at the strange man swaying in place, letting his fan fall before breathing out a sigh, running his hands down the silky fabric of his robes. “Check next time whether it is the person you are looking for before grabbing them.”
“Okay~! I'll see you around, later!” he responded obnoxiously before bounding away.
Shen Jiu frowned as he watched the young man walk away, eventually turning around and heading to his fellow disciples, putting the encounter out of his mind.
——
Surrounded by his fellow sectmates, Shen Jiu observed the cultivator reciting the rules. It was simple: For every creature slayed you received a prayer bead, the higher the level of the beast the more qi stored within the beads. There was also to be no attacking other cultivators, lest you be banned from the conference for the next five years. Of course, the knowledge that everyone will know you attacked other cultivators is more damaging to your reputation than being banned for a few measly years.
As the beginning of the competition was announced, Shen Jiu glanced at his wrist, eyeing the golden band, planning how he should go about the next seven days. Perhaps he should take it slowly at the beginning, save his energy for the higher level demonic beasts.
Many disciples rushed past him, eager to be the first to show up on the leaderboard, as Shen Jiu strolled into the gorge, casually waving his fan(2). A voice called his name, urgent and low. He spun on his heels, thinking for a moment it was that strange young man before dismissing that thought, and caught sight of Yue Qi jogging towards him. Behind him a small group of Cang Qiong cultivators.
His expression cooled, a scowl slowly forming. “Yes?”
It has been a while since he had last come across Yue Qi, desperately avoiding the other after their last disastrous meeting when his temper got the better of him. Yue Qi had grown, he had to admit. His face was full with a healthy sheen and filled out, hair neatly tied back in a bun, and his clothes tidy and clean, directly contrasting how he had looked two years prior. He looked well. And comfortable in his position, Shen Jiu thought bitterly as his fan inched towards his face(3).
Yue Qi paused a number of steps before him, his group a few steps behind.
“It is nice to see you, Xiao Jiu.” Yue Qi’s eyes soften, smiling brightly at him.
Shen-Jiu’s face soured, annoyed at his familiar tone. Why would he not let that infernal nickname die?“Why have you sought me out?”
“Do you plan to go alone? ” Yue Qi asked, “We are in need of an extra member.” He gestured behind him. Shen Jiu swept his gaze along the handful of cultivators staring curiously at him before snapping his gaze back to Yue Qi, dismissing them. He felt a few of the cultivators bristle while others clearly didn't notice the snub.
“Your team.” He said slowly, letting the words drop icily from his lips, “And why do you believe that I would join?”
A scoff sounded from behind Yue Qi, Shen Jiu turning slightly, facing who the sound belonged to, eyebrows furrowed. A young woman, her hair up tightly in a bun, a sword strapped to her waist as purple and white robes whipped gently around her. A Xian Shu disciple. Beside her, a shrewd looking young man, looking quite bored with the situation, his blue-green robes signifying him as an An Ding disciple. No weapon appearing to be on his body. Doubtful, considering he is entering a deadly competition. He’ll have to keep an eye on this one.
Shen Jiu slowly fanned his face(4), looking down at them from his nose.
“I'm afraid I haven't heard of you.” He spoke tauntingly, face blank. The Xian Shu disciple grit her teeth, glaring daggers at Shen Jiu.
“Qi Jiao.” She spit out.
“Oh.” He replied disinterestedly. This was the girl Yue Qi was in a relationship with? How disappointing. He couldn’t find anything that made her any more interesting than any other woman.
Ignoring her and the other disciples once more, he turned back to Yue Qi. Tapping his fan on his cheek(5), he mulled the offer over before answering. “No.”
“No?” Yue Qi bit his lips, looking at Shen Jiu with wide eyes, eyebrows downturned. How pitiful he looked. Unfortunately for him, Shen Jiu was immune to that look.
“No.” Shen Jiu replied coolly. “We both have a conference to attend, don't waste my time.”  With that, he stalked off into the gorge, hearing the woman angrily asking Yue Qi why he thought to even invite Shen Jiu.
Once he was alone, he let out a sigh, letting his nerves settle some. Interacting with Yue Qi after their previous meeting, it was… he was trying, okay? It’s not his fault that Yue Qi was so infuriating, and calling him that damned nickname!
He searched his sleeve, pulling out a ribbon and quickly tying his hair in a ponytail. Leaves crushed under his shoes, the sounds of the forest reaching his ears.
The conference had begun and he didn't know what would attack him. It was time to get serious.
──── ∘°❉°∘ ────
Please tell me if my pacing is too fast, I kinda feel like it is (-_-;)
Any guesses to who Shen Jiu met?? Its quite obvious ;D
──── ∘°❉°∘ ────
1) A weimao is a wide-brimmed hat with a shoulder-length veil hanging.
2) A fan being waved can be peaceful or soothing.
3) A fan covering the face can be interpreted as the user wishing for others to behave themself or leave.
4) A fan being waved slowly in this context can be interpreted the user being impatient, usually a signal for others to speak faster or get their point across.
5) A fan being placed on the cheek can be interpreted as a denial.

As an autistic person, I personally hate the infinity symbol and use of rainbows because I feel like it’s unintentionally meant to show an alliance between the LGBTQ community and the autism and ADHD community and that only queer autistic people can be proud of who they are and not ones who identify outside of it like me, I personally think that the infinity symbol and rainbow are no better than the puzzle piece (it also doesn’t help that a some sources say that autistic people are more likely to identify as queer (no offense to the queer community))
What do you think people?

p sjy x fem!reader s fake dating your brothers best friend quickly turns into something else w cursing , kissing , cringe wc 4.3k g fluff 〰 bookshelf
Tumblr media
There was one thing you knew about your life. It was that you hated Jake Sim. With his cocky attitude and new girl every week, there wasn't much to like. Yet he was your brother's best friend, and he never let an opportunity to bother you pass him by.
So you would think that after your continuous effort to avoid him in school, he wouldn't be chasing after you on the way home.
"Yn, wait up!" he says between hurried breaths. When you're finally face-to-face, he rests his hand on your shoulder, making you brush it away in disgust.
"Jaeyun, always a pleasure," you say sarcastically, making him smirk. "What do you want from me?"
He has a pleading expression in his eyes, reminiscent of a puppy, as he begs for your help. You laugh and start walking away, knowing he'll follow.
"Please listen to me, Yn." He grips your hand firmly. You smack away the hand, but you listen to his request anyway. "So you know how Wonyoung broke up with me, right?"
"Oh yes, I'm surprised she lasted that long."His expression doesn't falter as he continues talking. "And I want her back."
"What are you suggesting?" You question.
"Be my girlfriend."
"What?! Are you crazy? I'd never date someone like you. Go ask some other girl," You say and are ready to be done with this conversation.
"Well, that's the issue," he starts, rubbing the back of his neck.
You realize he can't ask anyone else because he's probably already dated them. Man whore.
You roll your eyes at him, but he refuses to take 'no' as an answer.
"Please, I'll do anything you want!"
"Anything?" A smirk makes its way to your face. You could have some fun with this.
"Anything except sleeping with you, but yes, anything!"
You take your time thinking about the possibilities, and Jake stares at you, waiting for his answer.
"Alright, I'll play along and fake date you, but only if you agree to my terms," you assert, watching as his face lights up with excitement. "First and foremost, no more teasing or annoying me, especially in front of my brother. Secondly, I expect a fresh doughnut from you every morning at school." Although he appears puzzled by the second condition, he doesn't argue. "And lastly, I hope you'll do me a favor and put in a good word for me with Heeseung once our little charade is over."
"It looks like someone's got a crush," he teases.
Your love for Lee Heeseung had been blooming since the first day of freshman year, yet he never even glanced your way. However, that was about to change.
"Okay, Miss Park, you've got a deal!" Jake exclaims, holding out his hand for you to shake. You politely decline just to let him know this alliance does not make you friends.
Tumblr media
The next day, Jake finds you before your class. You were so busy revising for your biology test that you forgot about the unexpected deal you had made with him the day before.
He plops down on the bench next to you, placing a paper bag in your hands.Inside is a chocolate-covered doughnut and a note. You raise your eyebrows at the small piece of paper and unfold it to see what it reads.
'For the prettiest girl ever, xoxo Jae'
"I knew you were a liar, but I never took you as a good one." You retort back to him, placing the note back inside and eating your doughnut.
"Gotta make this thing believable, you know," he winks, sliding his hand over your shoulders.
Though you would never admit it, this felt nice. It was chilly out, but Jake was warm, and you could smell the notes of orange in his perfume.
"I have to go to class now; see you later, Jake." You stand up, ready to make your way into school. But Jake's hand on your wrist suddenly stops you.
"Firstly, you never call me Jake, so don't start doing it now, and secondly, I think you forgot something." He looks at you, pointing at his lips.
Your eyes flash with panic. You had to kiss Jake Sim? Right now, in front of the whole school?
You calm yourself down and settle for a kiss on the cheek instead, making Jake frown in return. "Goodbye, Jaeyun"
He smiles as he watches Wonyoung across the courtyard, thinking his plan might work.
Tumblr media
Jake catches up with you quickly after your last class, intertwining your hands without a word. You glance down at the sudden contact but snap back to reality when he starts speaking.
"So, girlfriend. We're going to a party tonight," he explains as they walk out.
"A party? Hell no. I don't do parties, and I have to study for my English exam tomorrow." You reply that, though you didn't have an English exam tomorrow, you just didn't want to go to this party.
"I know for a fact you don't have an English exam, and as my girlfriend, you have to go to parties with me. We have a deal, Yn."
You sigh in defeat and say you'll go. This wasn't how you intended to spend tonight, but a deal is a deal, right?
"Pick you up at seven?" he winks, but the question seems to be rhetoric since he ran off right after.
A few hours later, you're arguing with your brother about this party. He, of course, thinks you and Jake are dating and that you're trying to cover it up by saying it's fake.
"Jay, please. I would never date Jake; he just wants to make his ex jealous so they can get back together. Do you understand?" You shout, getting frustrated from repeating the same thing over and over again.
Your best friend, Huh Yunjin, is watching from the sidelines before she decides to jump into the conversation.
"Believe me, Jay. Yn has always talked about hating Jake, and I don't think that can change so fast," she explains carefully. You give her a nod, thanking her for the help.
Even if it took a while, Jay finally believed the fake dating scheme. Now you and Yunjin are in your room, picking out your outfit.
"You need to wear something hot so that everyone knows you're not just some unattractive nerd. I mean, people think you're dating Jake Sim! You have to make it seem real," she says as she rummages through your closet, trying to find the perfect dress.
After a while, you hear her exclaim, "Oh my god!" and she pulls out a dress you didn't even realize you owned. It's a black minidress with a bow tied around the neck.
"You have to wear this." Before you even begin to protest, she glares at you and goes to pick out some shoes. The dress is beautiful, but is it too much? You wouldn't want to be overdressed and embarrass yourself.
The screen of your phone lights up, and you take a glance at the text. It's from your one and only 'boyfriend'.
'I'll be there in 10; don't keep me waiting ;)'
A smile creeps up to your lips, and you realize that you have only ten more minutes to get ready to hit soon after.
You manage to finish your makeup and hair just in time, slipping the dress on quickly before heading out to wait for your ride.
Surprisingly, Jake is already standing in front of your door when you open it. "Hi," you mutter.
"Hi, you look..." he begins, struggling to find the words.
"Oh no, it's too much, right? I'll go and change," you reply in a panicked way.
His hand catches you before you're able to walk away, and his expression is difficult to read.
"I meant you look beautiful; sorry if you misunderstood." Jake sighs, dragging you outside.
"Oh, thank you, Jaeyun. You're not too bad yourself," you tease.
His car isn't nearly as messy as it usually is, which you know from the few times he drove you and Jay home.
"Are you ready for this? People can be rough, so don't hesitate to say if you want to leave," he reassures you, then takes your hand as you enter the house. It looks like a mansion inside and out, and you can't help but wonder who is hosting this party. Soon, a handsome guy comes up to Jake to thank him for coming, and you get your answer.
"This is Yn, by the way, my girlfriend." Jake introduces you to his friend, whose hand you shake enthusiastically.
"Ah, Yn, I heard so much about you from Jakey here," he reveals, making Jake flustered. "I'm Park Sunghoon; look for me if you need anything. Bye!"
Sunghoon goes back to entertaining his guests at beer pong, leaving you alone with Jake again.
"Let's get a drink," he asks, heading to the kitchen.
"Someone has to drive me home, Jaeyun." You roll your eyes at him, but you follow anyway.
The kitchen is just as spacious as the living room, and it's filled with snacks, drinks, and people who are occasionally drunk. However, what grabs your attention is a pair of large glass doors that lead to the backyard, which is also full of people. You lean back against one of the marble counters and take in all the activity happening around you.
"Coke sound good?" He hands you the red cup without hearing the answer.
"Thanks"
"So, what do you want to do? We have beer pong and dancing. His voice trails off suddenly when he notices something, or rather, someone.
Wonyoung is donning a pastel pink dress and is currently flirting with a guy by the pool.
To say Jake was jealous was an understatement. You couldn't even say anything before his lips crashed into yours harshly.
He pulls away slowly and whispers in your ear, "Just go along with it, please."
And you do, but just for a few seconds. You feel his hands snake around your waist, but his eyes are fixed on Wonyoung. If you are going to make out with him, can he at least look at you? After breaking the kiss, you step back from him.
Though he looks confused, he doesn't say anything, and instead, he leads you outside to dance. The backyard turns out to be even larger than you anticipated, and the dance floor is packed with people. The music is blaring, making it hard to hear anything except the DJ hyping up the crowd.
You hold onto Jake's hand, trying not to get lost in the crowd, but eventually failing and losing his grip. Instead of looking for him, you try to leave the dance floor. After finally making it out, you come face-to-face with someone you didn't want to see—Jang Wonyoung.
"So... you're the girl," she says, her eyes scanning you from head to toe. "He could've done much better,"
"Excuse you?" You give her a stern look but only smile as she sees someone approaching behind you.
"Jake! It's nice to see you, "she exclaims when he gets close enough.
"Don't think I didn't hear what you said, Wonyoung. Me and my girlfriend will be leaving now," Jake replies, his voice harsh and his eyes cold. He pulls you away from the party after bidding goodbye, to Sunghoon.
"I'm so sorry about that; I shouldn't have let go of your hand. Wonyoung can be a piece of work sometimes," he laughs as you get into the car.
"Only sometimes?" you reply sarcastically.
The drive-back was silent, but you noticed Jake still holding onto your hand firmly. He probably didn't notice either; his eyes were fixed on the road. Arriving in front of his house, you carefully slip your hand out of his grasp.
"I had fun, thanks. And it seems that you're making progress. She's getting jealous," you say from the door.
"Yeah, she is; I had fun too. See you tomorrow, Yn."See you, Jae." You walk inside, not knowing his heart skipped a few beats at that nickname.
You're met with an unexpected sight: Jay and Yunjin watching a movie. They seem closer than usual, you notice, but you have much more of your issues to focus on.
"Yn, you're home!" Yunjin exclaims, "How was the party?" She's up on her feet, interrogating you now.
"It was okay; let's talk upstairs," you reply with a yawn, saying hi to Jay before leaving.
Once the two of you are enclosed in your room, Yunjin doesn't hesitate to ask for things she couldn't do in front of Jay. "Let me guess, you like him."
"No, but..." You hesitate.
"There's a but?!"
"I don't know; he isn't as bad as I thought," you confess, taking off your makeup in front of the mirror. Yunjin's smirk can be seen in the reflection, and you know she wants more information. "He defended me when Wonyoung was talking badly to me. And he might have held my hand on the ride home."
At this point, Yunjin's mouth is wide open, and her jaw is practically on the floor.
"HE DID WHAT? Girl, he wants you so bad.
"I'm sure it was just instinct since we have to pretend we're together a lot of the time," you protest.
"You believe whatever you want, but I know the truth." She rolls her eyes at you, collapsing over on your bed.
"Oh yeah, and we might have kissed," you say quietly, hoping she won't hear. But Yunjin's hearing seems to be perfect, and she jumps up from the bed immediately. "It was just to make Wonyoung jealous and relax."
"The real question is, did you like it?" Yunjin sits across from you.
"I mean, it wasn't bad, I guess? But him looking at her the whole time wasn't that pleasant."
"You want him to look at you," she teases.
"I don't; it's just awkward!" You defend yourself quickly, but she believes whatever she wants, so it is of no use.
It was getting late, and since both you and Yunjin had school tomorrow, you decided to get to sleep.
Tumblr media
A few weeks later, you are standing on Jake's doorstep. The plan has been going well, and Wonyoung is getting more jealous by the second. You ring the doorbell carefully, still confused about why he invited you over.
"Hey, thanks for coming," he says with a smile, motioning for you to come in.
The Sim House is a modern open-plan home furnished with cozy furniture. You follow Jake to what you assume is his room, spotting a girl in the kitchen as you pass by. She smiles at you and waves to open-planet the same. Did he have another girl already?
"So why am I here, Jaeyun?" You ask in confusion.
"You know we have the basketball game tomorrow, right?" he asks, to which you nod. "Well, as such a supportive girlfriend; you need to be cheering me on, understand?"
As you were about to respond, a piece of clothing was thrown at you. It was his jersey, embroidered with his last name and the number 5.
"I'm supposed to wear this?" You say this, earning yourself a glare from Jake. "Okay, fine, I'll be a supportive fake girlfriend. Is there anything else you need?"
"Here, wear this too, so they know we're serious. It's my favorite necklace," Jake said as he took it off his neck. It's a silver necklace with an infinity symbol on it, and you wonder how you've never noticed him wearing it. You watch as he places it in your palms, promising him you'll keep it safe.
After several hours, you, Yunjin, and your friend Giselle are on your way to the school gym. People stare at you as you make your way inside, with Wonyoung sending glares from far away. The sun is almost setting, and the bleachers are already filled with students.
The three of you find a seat near the entrance and observe as the players start to come out. Your school's team receives loud cheers, while the opposing school's team is booed. Right before the game is about to begin, the same girl from Jake's house sits next to you
."Hey, I'm Jeemin. We met yesterday. I'm Jake's sister." she says. Sister. That didn't come to mind.
"Yes, so nice meeting you, Jeemin," you smile. "Here to cheer on your brother?"
She laughs. "My boyfriend, Jake, has enough cheerleaders from what I see," she replies, referring to you and your friends.
"Who's your boyfriend?"
"Sunghoon, you've met him, right?" She smiles, spotting Jake's necklace on your neck, her realization hitting her. "That necklace—did my brother give it to you?"
"He actually did! It's beautiful, right?" you say with enthusiasm.
"He must really like you, then." Jeemin says before making her way to who you assume are her friends. What you don't expect is that Wonyoung is one of them. She shoots you yet another of her signature deadly glances, then goes back to watching the game.
The game is tied in the last few minutes, with anticipation building in the arena. Your team launches an attack, and Jake scores the winning point just before the game ends.
Everyone gets to their feet, loud cheers filling your ears. You and your friends jump in happiness, and the team goes in for a celebratory group hug.
The gym is cleared out in minutes, but the celebration continues outside. You and your friends are waiting by the locker room entrance to congratulate everyone.
The doors burst open, and the players shouting while holding up their trophy. Jake runs out behind them, immediately making his way to you.
He hugs you tightly, and you mutter words of congratulations into his shirt. You let go slowly, but Jake kisses you abruptly. You kiss him back, eclecticity flowing through your body like never before.
Why would he...? Oh.
When he finally breaks away, you see his gaze moving into the distance, where his ex-girlfriend stands. You wouldn't admit it, but a tinge of jealousy hits you.
The team goes to dinner afterward, and you and your friends sit in the schoolyard for a while.
"You like him," Giselle blurts out, to which you immediately defend yourself.
You liking Jake? She must be crazy. But you knew she wasn't. How could this happen? You hated him with your whole heart a month ago, and now you find yourself longing for his attention.
You sigh, fiddling with the necklace on your neck. "What do I do?" you admit.
"I knew it!" Yunjin exclaims in victory. "You need to tell him."
"Oh, sure, let me just call him up and say, 'Hey, Jake, guess what? I'm totally head over heels for you, even though you're still hung up on your ex. Bye now!'" you say, your voice dripping with sarcasm.
Both of your friends offered words of affirmation to reassure you that everything will be okay and that you will figure something out.
Tumblr media
Days pass in a blur, and your feelings for Jake only grow stronger the more time you spend with him. Christmas is near, and the city is decorated in the same spirit. It's the last day before break, and you are relieved that school is finally ending, even if it's only for two weeks.
As usual, Jake catches up to you after class, his eyes filled with joy. You still haven't said a thing to him, and you fear he'll suspect something from your awkward behavior.
"You're coming over for dinner tonight," he states, unlocking his car. He started driving you home recently, and you don't mind the free ride or spending more time with him.
"I am?" you say, confused.
"You are."
"I'm not even going to question it; what time?" you ask.
"7 p.m. sharp," he winks, waving you goodbye as you go inside your house.
Seven rolls around, and you're freezing in front of Jake's doorstep, too nervous to go in. A dress might not have been the best idea for December. Finally, you mutter up the courage to ring the doorbell, with Jake answering almost immediately. A cute golden dog is standing next to him, eyeing you from below.
"Hey, Yn, come in. This is Layla, by the way," he smiles, petting the dog's head. You crouch down and stroke her soft fur, Jake gazing at you from above in awe.
The house looks the same as the last time you visited, but this time the dining room is filled with people, who you assume are Jake's parents. You bid friendly greetings to everyone, taking a seat next to your boyfriend. What you didn't notice were the piercing eyes staring at you from across the table. Of course, she's here. Jang Wonyoung. She and Jeemin are chatting quietly, occasionally looking back at you.
Dinner goes smoothly, with the table filled with delicious foods and drinks.
"Yn, I hope you don't mind me asking, but where did you get your necklace?" Jake's mom asks suddenly during dessert, "I remember Jake having the same one."
All eyes are on you now, waiting for an answer. Wonyoung's glare gets even more intense when she notices the necklace.
You don't understand the big deal, so you answer honestly, "Oh, he gave it to me, actually."
As you sit in the room, you notice that Jake and Wonyoung are staring intently at each other, and you can see anger and sadness in her eyes. Suddenly, Wonyoung stands up and asks to be excused, and Jake quickly follows her outside. You feel a sense of confusion and discomfort, unsure of what's going on between them. You decide to excuse yourself and head to the bathroom, hoping to gain some clarity. As you walk down the hallway, you glance out the window and see Jake and Wonyoung talking in the snow. You feel a knot forming in your stomach as you watch her kiss him, and you realize that this is it. Overwhelmed with emotion, you quickly lock yourself inside the bathroom to compose yourself.
When you return, the atmosphere is tense, and everyone is getting ready to leave. You hastily grab your coat and slip out the door, hoping to avoid Jake's notice.
Tumblr media
The next day, Jake shows up at your doorstep, wondering why you left abruptly the previous night.
"Jaeyun, what do you want?"
"Why didn't you answer my messages? And why did you leave without telling me anything yesterday? Did I do something wrong?" He asks with a worried look in his eyes.
You let out a sigh and replied, "I saw you kiss Wonyoung."
Jake's face instantly changes to a panicked expression as he stumbles over his words, trying to explain. "No, you misunderstood. She-"
"I understood perfectly, Jake. This is what you wanted, right? So please don't bother me anymore now that this whole thing is over, and I can go back to hating you," you say, feeling hurt. You unlock the infinity necklace he gave you and place it in his hand. "I think I should give this back too."
Jake flinches at your words and begins to say something, but you interrupt him by slamming the door in his face. You slide down on the wooden door, not believing what you've just done. But you had no other choice. He wanted Wonyoung, and he got her. You were just a helper in that game, and you were not supposed to catch feelings.
Tumblr media
Several days after dinner, Jake's constant calls and messages are still flooding your phone, but you've been ignoring them. You've been staying at home since then, and tonight being New Year's Eve only makes things worse. Yunjin and Giselle are pressuring you to celebrate with them at the beach, and you agree, even though you would rather spend the night in the comfort of your bed.
As you arrive at the beach, you notice that the night sky is clear, with stars shining brightly and the moon glaring over the shore. You didn't expect much from this gathering, but you're shocked to see someone waiting for you on the sand.
"Why are you here? Where's Yunjin and Giselle?" You question him angrily, trying to leave. However, Jake catches your hand before you can go.
"I'm begging you, talk to me," he pleads, his eyes filled with tears. Despite everything that has happened, he is the last person you want to spend time with tonight.
"What do you want to talk about, Jaeyun? Your wonderful relationship with Wonyoung?" You respond sarcastically, still trying to distance yourself from him.
"I didn't kiss her," he says, causing confusion to spread across your face. "I mean, she kissed me, but I didn't kiss her back because... because I'm in love with you, Yn," he blurts out, leaving you speechless.
"What?" You say, unsure of how to react.
"I've been in love with you since we started this whole fake dating scheme. I gave you my necklace, the one that my father gave to my mother when they started dating. I've never done that before, and honestly, I was scared that you wouldn't feel the same way because you've hated my guts for so long. Not being able to see you these past few days has been killing me," he confesses as tears flow out of your eyes. "When my father gave my mother this necklace, he said, 'The infinity symbol represents us; you're my infinity.' That's what you are to me, Yn. You're my infinity."
He pulls the necklace out of his pocket and places it in front of you. "Say something, please," he begs.
As the clock struck midnight, you pulled Jake close and whispered, "I love you," before pressing your lips to his in a passionate kiss. His laughter filled the air as he deepened the kiss, his arms wrapped tightly around you. Breaking away, you rested your foreheads together, feeling his breath mingle with yours. Just then, the sound of fireworks filled the sky, casting a colorful glow over the two of you. Despite the spectacle above, his eyes remained fixed on yours.
"Happy New Year, Yn," he said, with a smile that lit up his face.

Throughout Infinity - Chapter 5
WC: 4429
CW: Violence, Injury
Immortal Alliance Conference Part 3
The past three days had been unexpectedly smooth sailing, Shen Jiu and Qi Tiaojian effortlessly defeating beasts and collecting their beads. That should have been the first sign that something would go wrong.
The trek wasn't quiet, to Shen Jiu's exasperation, Qi Tiaojian unable to keep his comments to himself. He was used to the quiet but the past few days had him accustomed to the chatter.
Their days were rarely dull, even if they did the same thing each day. They admired the scenery and made quick progress through the gorge. Hunting any beast they came across and quickly defeating it, the bounty split evenly between themselves. They spoke under the candlelight, entertaining themselves with stories or simply strumming their instruments. Their time together was surprisingly peaceful, despite Qi Tiaojian managing to get on Shen Jiu's nerves from time to time, as they got used to each other.
Unfortunately, such peace couldn't last for long.
As Qi Tiaojian pointed out another unusually large flock of birds flying past, he suddenly paused, looking towards something in the distance. Shen Jiu also paused, turning towards Qi Tiaojian in question.
Shen Jiu almost asked why they stopped when he felt a strange disturbance, the thick smell of smoke permeated the area. Quickly, he scanned the area with his qi, searching for the source. Sucking a sharp breath through his teeth, he yelled out, instructing Qi Tiaojian to quickly look for higher grounds.
They ran, a stampede of demonic beasts forming distantly behind them, growing ever closer with every step. There was no time to pull out their swords and fly away nor any space, a thick forest one of the few places where sword flight wasn't possible. Shen Jiu could feel some of the smaller, more agile demonic beasts nipping at his ankles before surpassing him. The shadows of airborne beasts covered him and Qi Tiaojian as they flew overhead.
He could feel himself slowing down, not used to running such distances despite cultivation making his body more durable. At this rate, they would be trampled to death in the middle of the herd.
"To your left!" Qi Tiaojian's hoarse shout sounded from his side. Shen Jiu automatically followed his direction, splitting away from the forest and sprinting full speed towards a cliff. Unsheathing his sword, he infused his qi into it and threw it ahead of him. Swiftly leaping atop it, he rose into the air, putting space between him and the beasts. He could tell Qi Tiaojian did the same, movement from the corner of his eye alerting him of his actions, though he was more focused on catching his breath.
They breathed heavily, watching as the horde of beasts passed by underneath them, a couple falling off the cliff due to being pushed from the edge of the crowd. The higher ground gave them clear sight to see what the beasts were running from. A blazing forest fire. With the way multiple qi signatures twined within the fire, there was no way it was natural. Most likely, a joint attack had failed due to poor aim, ending up with the forest catching on fire. Why they didn't put it out before it got this large was anyone's guess.
As they pulled themselves together, Qi Tiaojian finally spoke, pointing to a burnt section of the forest, diagonal from the path the beasts were marching. "I sense agitated demonic qi in that area. Are you feeling well enough to attempt an ambush?"
Shen Jiu nodded, smoothing out his rumpled robes and spreading his qi throughout his body, quickly getting rid of his aches. They had to be vigilant while making their way over, many airborne beasts still lingered, flying in lazy circles overhead. They would be an easy mark for those beasts if they remained in place for too long.
The flight wasn't too long, not even a quarter of a sichen(1). They had a rough landing, having to avoid the claws of an avian demon that followed them looking for an easy snack. Their surroundings, however, were thankfully empty of any demonic threats. At least, until they discover the beast they were hunting.
Shen Jiu held out his hand for Qi Tiaojian who had stumbled onto the burnt ground when he was dodging the avian beast. He hauled himself up with an energetic thanks before gesturing to his left, "It should be that way."
Shen Jiu hummed, pursing his lips at the ash clinging to his and Qi Tiaojian's robes before dismissing it. Finding the demonic beast and harvesting its bead was more important than worrying about some filthy robes. Besides, their robes would get even dirtier while they fight anyway.
Shen Jiu did his best to avoid any charred objects on the forest floor that would make a noise, he didn't want the demonic beast to know of their ambush. On that thought, he advised Qi Tiaojian to wrap his qi tightly around himself to avoid his scent from leaking out. Qi Tiaojian tittered curiously but took his advice, Shen Jiu only having to correct him once before he perfected the technique.
It wasn't too hard to find the source of the agitated qi, Qi Tiaojian leading them to a desolate cave entrance. They crouched down behind a row of burnt trees, surveying their surroundings. Fallen trees blocked most of the dark entrance and the surroundings were burnt to a crisp, though Shen Jiu could see thick gouges lining the stone walls.
Shen Jiu furrowed his brows, thinking of a way to lure the beast out. From what he could tell, this was a large mammalian beast and an omnivore from the bones and fruit skins peeking out from the little gaps between the trees. Perhaps he could lead it into an ambush with food? He was sure he had a couple of fruits left in his qiankun pouch. It would definitely need food since all the plants have burnt to ash and there is no more prey in the area.
"What are you thinking, Jiu'er?" Qi Tiaojian whispered teasingly. Shen Jiu's face twisted in annoyance. He had thought his reaction the last time Qi Tiaojian tried to call him that would discourage him from using that nickname. Unfortunately, it seemed Qi Tiaojian didn't learn. He had been using that nickname since the second day they decided to work together despite Shen Jiu's protests. Ultimately, Shen Jiu decided to ignore it, hoping that the nickname would eventually be dropped. Clearly, Qi Tiaojian was just trying to get a reaction from him.
"We need to lure it out of its cave. Fighting it in its territory is suicide." Shen Jiu stated.
Qi Tiaojian hummed, looking analytically at the dark cave, weimao rustling in the wind. "Should we use food? Or smoke it out with fire?"
"I don't think fire can affect it, or else it would have been with the fleeing beasts." Shen Jiu answered, "Using food would work the best, but if that doesn't work, we can try flushing it out by collapsing the cave. But that can attract unwanted attention."
"I see…" Qi Tiaojian muttered, rubbing his fingers together. "I can help waft the scent of the food with my qi, but I don't have anything explosive on me."
"That is alright. We might not need it if our plan works." Shen Jiu said, rummaging through his qiankun pouch. Just as he pulled out his last fruit, a loud crack echoed to Shen Jiu's right. Snapping his head to the side, Shen Jiu drew his swords and drew himself and Qi Tiaojian closer to the shadows of the trees.
Straining his ears, Shen Jiu heard the rustle of crisp leaves being crushed underfoot. Quiet murmuring sounded, before a familiar group rounded, with an addition of a couple of unfamiliar faces.
Shen Jiu let go of the tight hold on his sword, though didn't sheath it, and slid out of the shadows enough to be seen. Yue Qi and his group were accompanied by a group of cultivators he hadn't seen before. There was an obvious tension between the two groups, subtle glares were shot and a space between them that wasn't breached by either group.
Shen Jiu watched Yue Qi brighten when he spotted him, cutting off a member of the unknown group to yell out his name and alerting the rest of the cultivators to his presence, Qi Tiaojian having yet to separate from the shadows. Many reached for their weapons at the sight of his sudden appearance, though Shen Jiu observed only Yue Qi and the An Ding disciple he made a note of days before didn't.
"How are you, Shen-shidi?" Yue Qi asked as he bounded up to him. Thankfully, he dropped the awful nickname he liked to use. If only a certain someone could use him as an example…
"I am well." Shen Jiu answered simply, Qi Tiaojian taking this moment to join him. "Were you also swept here by the fire?"
"Ah, yes… This is?" Yue Qi was clearly bewildered that he had a teammate, his gaze oscillating between him and Qi Tiaojian. It made Shen Jiu feel off, as if a heavy ball of lead was forming in his stomach.
"Qi Tiaojian, Jiu'er's companion!" He said enthusiastically, settling his arm on Shen Jiu's shoulder as he leaned forward. Shen Jiu heard a harsh breath of surprise from the surrounding disciples before whispering began. "You?"
Yue Qi's eyes widened at the nickname, taking notice of Shen Jiu's indifferent expression. A strained smile spread across his face as he greeted Qi Tiaojian, "I hadn't thought I would meet such an esteemed cultivator such as yourself, Qi Tiaojian-xiānshēng(2). I am Yue Qi of Cang Qiong Mountain."
'Esteemed cultivator?' Shen Jiu wondered. He couldn't really call Qi Tiaojian that.
Yue Qi spread his arm towards his teammates, their whispering instantly being silenced once they were in the spotlight. "And these are my teammates."
They took turns introducing themselves, Qi Jiao presenting herself first. The An Ding disciple went next, simply stating his name, Shang Xiaoxiong, with a greeting. Huan Tang stuttered out his name while Wei Weiwu fidgeted at all the eyes on him.
The last cultivator, Shen Jiu was peripherally aware of due to him also being a Qing Jing disciple. Huan Youli was known for his martial prowess, so his involvement in the Immortal Alliance Conference wasn't surprising.
A brief silence settled over them as they waited for the last group of cultivators to introduce themselves. One of the members jolted when the rest of his group looked towards him, scrambling to introduce himself with a heated face. The rest followed his lead smoothly, though some glanced uncertainly at the Cang Qiong disciples.
They were cultivators from a smaller sect, Clear Water Pavilion, and had run into Yue Qi's team due to the forest fire. Apparently, a few members of their group were almost lost to the fire. They were thought to be demonic beasts by Yue Qi's team and were subsequently attacked. Thankfully, none of their members were seriously hurt and they got away with little injuries.
"Had we not already apologized and allowed you to stay by us while the fire passes?" Qi Jiao interrupted the cultivator, irritation showing on her face, "Who was it that started the fire to begin with?"
A younger cultivator ducked her face down, embarrassed. The rest of her teammates frowned at Qi Jiao, quick to form a rebuttal to protect their fellow disciple. The young cultivator was likely the one who set fire to the forest, Shen Jiu mused, absentmindedly detaching Qi Tiaojian's arm from his body as he sheathed his sword. Qi Tiaojian didn't seem to notice, too engrossed in watching the two groups air out their grievances.
The Clear Water Pavilion disciples seemed wary of provoking disciples of one of the biggest sects, however with more of Yue Qi's teammates joining in despite him trying to soothe the situation, an argument was bound to occur. Shen Jiu pulled Qi Tiaojian along with him a few steps away from the raised voices, watching with derision from a safer distance. At the rate they were going, they would argue long into the night and not have any time to set up camp.
"Say," Qi Tiaojian began, tapping his cheek over his weimao. "Wouldn't this be the perfect time to attack the demon?"
Shen Jiu blinked, sending a discrete wave of qi towards the cave entrance, eyebrows shooting up when he found it blown wide open. He hadn't sensed it leaving its cave, though he supposes he was paying too much attention to the dispute.
Shen Jiu drew his sword, unnoticed by anyone but his teammate. "Its location?"
"East of the Clear Water Pavilion disciples. Look up." Qi Tiaojian whispered, leaning closer so only Shen Jiu could hear. Shen Jiu subtly glanced in that direction as he feigned interest in the argument, almost missing the beast despite looking for it. It blended alarmingly well into the landscape, looking like just another burnt tree. Its beady eyes roved over the small group of cultivators as if deciding which one to make a meal out of first.
Shen Jiu identified the Ruby Jeweled Earth Bear easily, its striking red eyes and namesake nestled against its chest a dead giveaway. The claws of the Ruby Jeweled Earth Bear were quite famous, said to be able to gouge through any material. Just one claw would fetch nearly a thousand spirit stones(3)! The rest of the body was usually processed to create fabric or jewelry which would also be sold at a high price. Either way, encountering a Ruby Jeweled Earth Bear was celebrated by many.
They weren't known for eating cultivators, or humans really, but it made sense that it targeted them if he thought about it. It wouldn't have any success with hunting, with the fire having chased away its prey. A group of loud humans gathering in front of its nest would seem enticing.
Shen Jiu casually weaved unnoticed around the burnt trees while taking great care to cover his scent, bears of any kind had strong noses. Qi Tiaojian followed his lead, taking the opposite route to trap the beast between them, using the same technique they'd done many times in the past few days. Careful not to step on anything that would alert the beast, Shen Jiu rounded a tree that was close to where he wanted to attack from. Being so close to the demonic beast, he would need to be even more cautious of arousing its suspicions.
Shen Jiu used the brief stop to check on his teammate's position, confirming that he was also hidden away from the bear's line of sight. However, he noticed two cultivators whipping their heads around, searching for something. Unfortunately, this led to them making eye contact with the beast and screaming in shock, prompting it to leap for the cultivators before he and Qi Tiaojian could get into position.
He let out a frustrated breath before diving after the beast. Landing a good strike on its hind leg, dodging to his right when the beast let out a deafening roar and aimed for him. From the corner of his eye, he could tell the Clear Water Pavilion disciples were in the process of setting up an array(4) while the Cang Qiong disciples got into battle formation.
Qi Tiaojian landed next to him, having to dodge a fireball after landing an overhead hit on the beast. A quick glance showed he was alright. The beast roared once more in anger, the fireball flowing off its back. It seemed he was right; fire didn't affect the beast.
The bear charged, aiming for the startled Clear Water Pavilion disciples. A quick blast of wind from Shen Jiu altered its course, making it ram into the burnt trees and uprooting some of them. Yue Qi and his team took this moment to attack, making ribbons out of the beast's back and dashing out of range when it clawed at them. The bear huffed, breathing heavily, its imposing figure bloody. Digging its claws into the dirt, the bear stood still, confusing the cultivators that encircled it.
Shen Jiu inhaled sharply, feeling the surrounding qi flow around the bear and into the earth. Qi Tiaojian seemed just as surprised, looking at him as if to confirm they felt the same thing. How had he forgotten that the Ruby Jeweled Earth Bear had a special attack that it used when threatened?
"Move! Now!" Shen Jiu shouted, falling back with Qi Tiaojian as the other cultivators realized what was happening. Sharp earthen spikes rose from the ground at an alarming pace, getting closer and closer to the retreating cultivators. A cry of surprise rose from one of the cultivators followed by a loud thud. Looking back, a younger male cultivator had fallen over, the earthen spikes dangerously close. He won't make it in time, Shen Jiu realized with a jolt.
The cultivator's fellow disciples hadn't turned around, continuing to flee from the beast. Nobody but him and Qi Tiaojian had noticed his fall, and if they did, they didn't bother turning around. Glancing at his partner, it was clear that he wasn't planning on helping the younger cultivator. Shen Jiu weighed the odds of anyone willing to help the cultivator, then sighed, heading towards the fallen cultivator.
Grabbing the cultivator's arm, Shen Jiu slung it over his shoulder, helping the cultivator limp over to where the rest of his team was situated. A sharp spike of qi was the only warning he had before he dodged sideways, though unable to fully avoid the earthen spike. White hot pain ran through his arm, blood soaking his robes. Shen Jiu grit his teeth and continued, ignoring the shout of his name from the irritatingly familiar voice.
Shen Jiu weaved through the rest of the earthen spikes, taking great care not to jostle both his and the cultivator's wounds. Finally, he handed the cultivator to one of his fellow disciples, a strict looking female with hair tied up into a thick ponytail. She handled her teammate with care, gently steadying him and mimicking his position earlier.
As he turned around to walk towards his own teammate, he heard a thank you from the woman he handed the wounded cultivator to. She stared at him steadily, waiting for a response. Shen Jiu raised his eyebrows and responded, "I wasn't the one who should have helped him." The other cultivators looked away shame-faced.
"And yet you did." She replied, her back straight.
"I will not forget your assistance." The cultivator he helped added in, stumbling to get closer to him. He wobbled into a bow, "This one is named Chang Huizhong of Clear Water Pavilion. If you are in need of aid in the future, I will do my best to provide."
Shen Jiu pursed his lips, uncomfortable from Chang Huizhong's clear gaze.
"Think nothing of it." He said simply, turning back to the battle that was raging. Jumping into the fray, Shen Jiu aimed a sharpened blade against the beast's neck. Predictably, it bounced off the thick neck, but did make sure the beast turned its attention away from the cultivators it nearly mauled.
Shen Jiu rolled under an attack, standing on the balls of his heels beside his teammate. He can tell Qi Tiaojian was glancing at his wound, despite the weimao obscuring his features, but ignored it for now. He can bandage his shoulder after they defeat the demonic beast. For now, he just cycled qi around the wound.
From there, the battle went smoothly, the cultivators taking turns to attack the beast and dodging when it unleashed a desperate attack. With one final strike from Qi Tiaojian, the bear went down with a thud, a pool of blood expanding as its heart beat for the last time. By that point, most of the cultivators were breathing heavily, the Clear Water Pavilion disciples having to duck out of the fight from qi exhaustion.
Plucking the bead from the dead beast's neck, Shen Jiu raised it to Qi Tiaojian in askance, pocketing it when he shook his head. Harvesting ten claws, Shen Jiu threw them into his qiankun pouch and turned to the rest of the cultivators after sheathing his blade. "Take what you want from the beast, it is your portion for fighting with us."
Qi Jiao's indignant shout was interrupted by Yue Qi's concern for his well being, "Are you alright Shen-shidi? Your shoulder…"
"It will be fine." Shen Jiu answered coolly, not in the mood to be the subject of fussing.
Yue Qi chewed on his lower lip, his eyes lingering on Shen Jiu's wound. "Are you sure you do not want to travel with us? It will be safer."
"I have already given you my answer the first time you asked." Shen Jiu watched Yue Qi wilted a little before letting out a sigh. "I'll see you at the end of the conference."
Qi Tiaojian waved cheekily at a beaming Yue Qi as they walked away, Shen Jiu giving him an unimpressed look. The first thing they had to do was look for a place to make camp, the sun had already dipped beyond the horizons, darkening their surroundings. He needed to wrap his wounds soon, he was becoming woozy from the bloodloss.
"The cave." Shen Jiu said suddenly. Qi Tiaojian hummed questioningly, wondering why he suddenly brought it up.
"We can use it as shelter." Shen Jiu explained, "There is likely no beast that will approach it because the Ruby Jeweled Earth Bear's scent still lingers."
"It would work." Qi Tiaojian said thoughtfully, "If any beast does wander back here, they would be more drawn to the bloody scent than the cave."
"It's a bit risky with the corpse being close to the cave, but we don't have any time to look for a better place. The sun has already set." Shen Jiu pointed out. It was rapidly getting darker. Soon they would barely be able to see anything in front of them. In that state, they would be easy pickings for any nocturnal demonic beasts.
The cave was just a few minutes walk away. It stank of the beast and fur layered over most of the entrance along with bones and crushed fruits. Unless they cleaned the mess up, they wouldn't be able to wash themselves of the filth from the fight earlier.
Spotting a slight glow in the distance, Qi Tiaojian grabbed Shen Jiu's uninjured arm and pulled him along. A breathtaking scene opened up before their eyes, a brightly lit underground lake spilt as far as their eyes could see, its reflection moving hypnotically on the cave ceiling that bore jagged stalactites. Small glowing bugs flit across the sea colored crystals that lined the walls, gnawing on the bright blue moss growing at their base. Peering into the transparent water, you could see small, colorful fish dart between leafy stalks that moved to an unheard tune.
Shen Jiu let out an awed breath, he had never seen such a wonderful sight. Two years earlier, he had been scavenging around in the dirty underbellies of cities. After he arrived at Cang Qiong Mountain, he hadn't had any opportunity to travel and take in the sights, just cooped up in the sect learning how to cultivate. Attending the Immortal Alliance Conference was the first time he left the sect since he joined, in fact.
A tug on his robes snapped him out of his trance, Qi Tiaojian demanding, "Show me your shoulder. I need to check how bad it is."
Shen Jiu froze. To do that, he would have to remove his robes and show his back. He had never revealed his back to but one person, one who eventually turned his back on him. Shen Jiu only knew Qi Tiaojian for three days compared to the years he knew Yue Qi. And despite the odd sense of familiarity, he didn't know if he could trust him to tend to his wounds. Then again, he did trust him to guard him in his sleep…
"I can do it myself." Shen Jiu replied testily, smoothing his robes with his uninjured arm.
"Nonsense. There's no way you can stretch your arm behind yourself without pain." Qi Tiaojian placed his hands on his hips. Shen Jiu's lip twitched, annoyed that Qi Tiaojian caught onto that.
"It will heal anyways. A little pain doesn't matter." Shen Jiu could feel the disapproval emanating from Qi Tiaojian.
Shen Jiu rubbed the fabric of his robes between his fingers. During their time together, Qi Tiaojian hadn't done anything he wasn't comfortable with. In fact, it was as if he knew what to avoid to not upset him. Even though he annoyed him at times, it was clearly just a part of his personality, not a pointed jab against Shen Jiu. After all, he wouldn't let someone like that stick around him for so long. Still, his feelings on Qi Tiaojian were conflicting. Should he let him grow closer and suffer the eventual pain of being betrayed? Or should he just push him away to never feel that pain once again?
Shen Jiu glanced at his teammate and let out a deep exhale, mind made up. He relented his care to Qi Tiaojian, who clearly smiled once he got his way.
Stripping off the top of his robes, he tensed instinctively, ready to hear the gasp of surprise or a pitying remark in reaction to the scarred back he gained when he was a slave. Instead, there was nothing. Not a sound or phrase other than the rummaging of a bag.
A cold sensation jolted him out of his thoughts, the healing salve being spread across his wounds. He could feel the foreign qi stitching his flesh back together alongside his own qi. Another rustle of a bag and a clean bandage wrapped around his shoulder, wincing when it was tied tightly. He supposes he was lucky that he hadn't been injured until five days into the conference.
Redressing in clean robes, Shen Jiu smoothed them out with his hands, back straight as his gaze wandered to everything but his teammate.
Pursing his lips, he muttered, "Thank you…"
"Hmm?" Qi Tiaojian asked innocently, leaning forward and cupping his hand around his ear. "What was that?"
"Thank you!" Shen Jiu said through gritted teeth, turning around to set up the sleeping quarters. Qi Tiaojian's clear laugh echoed in the well lit cave.

I was debating on Qi Tiaojian's nickname for Shen Jiu being either A-jiu or Jiu'er. Xiao Jiu was already taken and some of the other affectionate terms were for elders and children specifically or just didnt fit with his character. Eventually, I settled on Jiu'er since it flows better.
Also, please tell me if the dialogue is stilted or just off. I have a hard time making dialogue and would appreciate some feedback. ^^
Thanks for reading and Ramadan Mubarak to those who observe it!

Lawbin Zou Analysis: where the dream starts
Zou is an interesting arc. It's one of the arcs that really blows my mind (egghead is another one) I personally like these kind of informative arcs a lot because Oda can always surprise me with his infinity ideas.
highlighted in purple are my delulu~
Again, don't read if you don't like Lawbin. Includes lots of bias.
~LAWBIN FRIENDS PHASE~
Before start analyzing the arc, I just want to say I feel like Lawbin are friends at this moment. Even though Law will deny it and say they are allies only haha, I feel like they are at least friends. Robin wouldn't worry someone for an entire arc and use her whole body to save him if she doesn't see him as a friend in my opinion. Well - in law's perspective, they might just be alliance all the way. But I think deep down, he see Robin as friends since Dressrosa from how they talk with each other.
Chapter 801 ~ 806: Always beside you
Tumblr media
Law and Robin sitting across again! Funny that's how they started and ended Dressrosa. And their physique and vibes are so similar. I guess it's really nice to look at Robin all the time hehe
Tumblr media
This scene is so funny. Did Law just called Usopp "God-ya" just to make fun of him Lmaoo Law did pick up Robin's habit to tease Usopp just to see him scared Lol Robin even asked Usopp "Need some gum?" Girlll you know exactly why he's looking pale hahaha I love how Law and Robin basically team up here just to tease Usopp. (Maybe Robin is genuinely asking Usopp but it's still so funny to me)
Tumblr media
The seating plan here is just sus to me!! Because Law can definitely sit anywhere else and not sit behind Robin! Like he can sit with Zoro and Luffy, it wouldn't affect the plot that much. But no, he needs to sit between Robin and Franky and separating the straw hats lol To be fair, Franky need to sit in front of Kin'emon for plot purpose. (So the monkey can make them fall, because Franky block most of their sight) But it can also be Law - Robin - Franky (there's one panel is, but I think it's just a mistake) Maybe Oda just draw their sitting order randomly but I still feel kind of sus about it because usually he will draw Luffy and Law together, and Robin Franky (or Usopp) together.
For me, it's really normal if Oda always draw Franky Robin (or any straw hats) together. Because they are in the same crew and of course you will stand or sit with a person that you're close with. It's not normal if he always draw Robin with a non-straw hat a.k.a Law together! People always forget that and said they barely interact (which I don't even bother- oh well), but Law isn't a straw hat, it's normal that he doesn't interact a lot with people who isn't close with. That's why it's significant when Oda purposely make him interact with a certain straw hat a.k.a Robin more than others.
So back to the seating plan, that's why I think it's interesting that Oda is trying to put Law and Robin more together!! Maybe they did get closer during their trip :p
Tumblr media
I think zolaw is cute sometimes haha. Zoro and Law are so logical here. I searched up their MBTI (which is voted by people). Law is INTJ and Robin is INTP (Zoro is ISTP if you're curious) The three of them personalities are so similar. They all have "T" in their MBTI which stands for thinking logically before feelings. And of course they are all introverts lol Robin cares here because she thinks the dragon is cute, imagine it's some kind of robot ninja, she will probably say something mean here too haha and Zoro & Law will be those getting emotional (like law reacting to Stealth Black)
Tumblr media
Logically, I would say Robin ask Law to get in touch with his crew so that they know how Minks act and if they will hurt the straw hats. But in my delulu, I would say it's sus Robin think about Law's crew first and she always keep his situation in mind. Even Usopp needs to think for a minute to realize there's a mink in Law's crew. But seems like Robin know so well about it! (Ok rationally I know Robin is smart so she think of reaching Law's crew is the best way to learn about mink)
Tumblr media
It's these kind of small moments make them so compatible. Law & Robin are analyzing a lot during their way on Zou. Robin is more proactive on investigating but I found Law can always quickly analyze of what Robin found. Just imagine they both go on discovering a ruin after everything, Law is behind protecting Robin and help her analyze the ruins it's just seems so perfect to me. (well it's just like the wano scene hehe)
Tumblr media
This shows exactly what I meant - Robin said the town is built for this water level and Law can just quickly figured out the shower always happen. Oda I see what you're trying to do here!!! They are just so similar so intelligent together!! And they seems like always talking with each other because they sync a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Law shambles the whole group, he shambles Robin the last and also the closet to him. Seems like he's protecting her >< In the anime, Law Zoro and Robin landed perfectly but in the manga is only Law and Robin. I knew Law has bias towards to Robin! But rationally, I think Law will do the same for other girls too but because for girls, he mainly only interact with Robin lol so we didn't know how he treat other girls haha But so far, I can see he did seems treat Robin nicer than others. Law seems like very distance to other girls in general.
Chapter 814 ~ 820: Road Poneglyph
Tumblr media
Since Vinsmoke is from north blue, so maybe she heard from Law?! jk it's probably from the revolutionary army but I can delulu right?! :p
Tumblr media
Law starting to change tears me up T-T In Dressrosa, he really hides his empathy but I know deep down he cares a lot. And now he's showing the soft side of him. That's why I said he is probably going through the character development of what Robin went through during pre-time skip.
Tumblr media
Law didn't say a lot here, but I think this part is probably one of the reasons what makes him want to find the will of D later. Inuarashi revealed that Robin is from Ohara and can decipher ruins. And since Law told Robin his real name later on and ask about the Will of D, he probably knew what Robin and Ohara went through. I think Robin and Law did get a lot closer during Zou -> Wano, but I will save my analysis later!
Tumblr media
Law said "show me your shadow clone technique" here and it's literally what Robin had shown him back in Dressrosa haha
Tumblr media
Seeing this scene, I personally think if everything goes well, Law will probably go to Laugh Tale with the straw hats. I don't think he will join the straw hats but as like an accompany or alliance. Also he already told Robin he want to learn about the will of D too so if Oda is mercy enough, we can probably see Law & Robin learn history together.
Tumblr media
Usually, Law will have an annoyed expression when straw hats compliment each other or saying they will protect each other. But when's it's Robin, he didn't react to it hehe But I also think it's because he respect Robin a lot. And I personally think he will definitely protect her when someone is after her.
Tumblr media
Robin and Luffy's dynamic is just so cute! >< And the passion of Robin has on road poneglyph is a lot and she always search it when she has a chance. So I really think Law and Robin did collaborate on finding road poneglyph, otherwise, she would definitely search in Onigashima too (which she didn't and Law did)
That's the end of Zou. They didn't interact a lot but I can feel like Law and Robin is getting closer. I'm also saving some of my thoughts for Wano. Wano is definitely a big change for these two, even though there are not a lot of scenes of them together :( Anyways, thank you for reading again!!! Let me know if you have any thoughts!!

EMERGENCY REQS MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
It's not often for you to come to the Infinity Castle, but your many pleas have persuaded Muzan to agree, allowing Nakime to teleport you to his place.
Despite the incongruity of a liaison between a demon king and a human being, Muzan harbors sentiments for you. He consistently aids you whenever the need arises, even though an alliance between a demon and a human seems implausible.
Muzan's presence is as imposing as ever, his crimson eyes gleaming in the darkness of his throne chamber in the Infinity Castle. "What pitiful human woe brings you to me, seeking comfort?"
You hesitate, nervously shifting under the piercing gaze of the demon king. "Muzan-sama," you finally speak, your voice barely above a whisper. "I... I don't know what's missing in my life, but every moment of joy feels like a fleeting illusion."
Muzan remains composed. "Time is but a feeble construct, my dear. Mortals always dwell on the ephemeral."
Your eyes glisten with unshed tears as you pour out your heart. "No matter how much I want to hold on to happiness, it feels like time is mocking me, always slipping away."
Muzan approaches you with an elegance that contradicts his demonic nature. "Time is your true enemy, my dear. It devours everything, leaving behind nothing but dust. But do not despair. Embrace the inevitable, and you may find solace."
You look up, searching for some semblance of understanding. "How do I find peace in knowing that time will eventually claim everything?"
Muzan's gaze softens, a rare moment of vulnerability flickering across his face. "Acceptance, my dear. Embrace the ephemeral nature of existence, and perhaps, you'll find tranquility in the chaos."
"But it feels so overwhelming, like I'm caught in an unstoppable current. I try to savor every moment, yet they slip away too fast."
Muzan smiles a little, taking your face in his cold hands, using his thumbs to rub your cheeks. "Time is a fickle companion. It dances ahead, leaving you to grasp at shadows. Cherish the present, for it is all you have. Worry not about the inevitable end; focus on the beauty within the ephemeral."
"Do you think... Do you think I can truly be happy?" you ask him as one of his thumbs wipes a single tear off your flushed cheek.
"Yes. There's only one thing you need to do," he tells you.
"What is that?" you ask, your lips slightly parted.
"Live, little one. Immerse yourself in the pleasures of the moment. Revel in the fleeting joys, and when the darkness creeps in, let it be a reminder to seize the light with both hands."

Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight
a Stephen Strange x OFC Romance
genre: pre-Infinity War, slow burn romance, older man/younger woman, teacher/student to friends to lovers characters: Stephen Strange, Wong, Teyla of Hadeeth (OFC), Moraine of Hadeeth (OC), additional OCs as Kamar-Taj staff rating: general audience to begin with, later chapters contain 18+ material
Ngl - I'm really hoping some of the authors in the Doctor Strange x Reader community will be kind enough to give this a read.🥺🥺 Even more so, a reblog - because I'm quite proud of my writing in this work, and I believe it deserves some love. Maybe some love could see me on my way to updating, even finishing, this WIP. It's lain fallow for far too long!
Tumblr media
Chapter One
“Stephen, it’s nearly time.”
Wong’s voice pulled him from his scrutiny of the thick, weathered tome that had become his latest project.  Since the passing of his mentor, the Ancient One, Stephen Strange was one of very few left in Kamar-Taj who made a regular practice of studying the advanced manuscripts, spell books, and obscure histories, which she had amassed during her centuries of service as the Sorcerer Supreme.  His eidetic memory served him equally well in this pursuit, as it had in his previous vocation; as one of the world’s most talented and successful neurosurgeons he had learned the lesson early on—that knowledge was power—though the power he sought now he would wield for a even nobler purpose than those of his previous life.
“Remind me, Wong…it’s nearly time for…” Stephen let his voice trail off with the question, focusing just a few moments more on the script marking the page before him.
“For the arrival of the emissary from Hadeeth, Stephen,” Wong replied, “As well you know.  Need I remind you that our alliance with Hadeeth goes back nearly four hundred years?”
“Not at all, Wong.  I’m acutely aware—down to the smallest minutiae—of the terms of our accord the with the Hadeethans, having familiarized myself with every scrap of parchment the Ancient One left behind, detailing the particulars of our relationship.”  Strange closed the leather-bound book before him, stretched a mite, and then rubbed thumb and forefinger upon his closed eyelids. “I’ve got a rotten case of eyestrain in the process, but I suppose I’m as ready for this as I can ever be,” he grumbled, “Although I’m not entirely certain why I have to be the one to meet with their envoy.  A Master with years of experience—and not one with barely twelve months--would surely make a better representative of Earth. Let alone Kamar-Taj.”
Refusing to be pulled back into the ongoing debate, Wong remained impassive.  “Of the Masters left in Kamar-Taj, you are the best qualified by virtue of your life experience.  And in the absence of a Sorcerer Supreme, a Master of one of our Sanctums is the best that we can offer.”
He clapped Stephen on the shoulder, “Accept that you’re destined for this bit of diplomacy, Stephen.  It can’t be anywhere near as complicated as navigating your way through the human brain to excise a pin point sized tumor.”
Strange rose to his feet, favoring Wong with a scowl, “As usual, Wong, your vote of confidence is underwhelming—but I will do my best not to provoke a diplomatic incident with an ally that has had Earth’s back for hundreds of years, and in some hairy situations.”
A young attendant placed the tray with fresh-brewed tea and a sampling of Nepalese delicacies on the low table before him.  Without a word, she filled a cup with the hot liquid, and set it down beside the pot, before sliding a plate of almond honey cakes closer at hand to him.  Stephen nodded, murmuring his thanks—though he was a little too nervous to partake of one of his favorite dishes.  Instead, he stirred a bit of honey into his tea, briefly reflecting on the first cup of honeyed tea he had partaken in this very room, barely more than a year ago.  With a shock to his system, he had been quickly educated as to how very much he did not know about the world, the universe, and the human mind and spirit; and since then, he had learned much more than he would ever had imagined of things he’d never even entertained as plausible.  He considered himself a work in progress, truly humbled for the first time in his life, when he took into account how much he still did not know.
Yet, he had earned the respect of his peers here and—just moments before her death--the Ancient One had appointed him Master of the New York Sanctum.  Strange took that responsibility ever seriously, having seen and experienced for himself the sort of assaults from other dimensions which Earth would be prey to were it not for the ancient protections provided by the band of sorcerers, bound in service to mankind.
The man he once was—before the accident that had deprived him of his livelihood, and the purpose by which he defined himself—Doctor Stephen Strange had the hubris to consider himself the best his specialty had ever known, and the ambition to pursue the loftiest positions of influence and power in his field.  Now, as he split his time between New York and Nepal, he was in a constant quest for knowledge that would enable him to do this job to the best of his ability, while never seeking glory for himself.  He would not—could not, in fact—allow himself to aspire to the title of Sorcerer Supreme…although more often than not these days, he was given--by some silent agreement (to which he was no party)--the deference and the responsibilities that came with that designation.  Today, he would prefer to be a mere rank and file mage—but he could not turn his back upon the service that was asked of him.
Stephen rose when Wong appeared in the entrance way, ushering a stately, robed woman into the room.  “Master Strange, allow me to present Mistress Moraine of Clan Kayolo, member of the Hadeethan Ruling Council,” Wong gave her a nod of respect, before moving to Stephen’s side.
Following the formal protocol which the Ancient One had chronicled, Strange bowed at the waist before speaking.  “Welcome to Kamar-Taj, Mistress Moraine of Hadeeth.  We are honored by your presence, and offer hospitality and friendship to you, and any others under your protection, for however long you sojourn here.”
She bowed in reply, and recited her opening remarks smoothly, her rich voice that of a woman accustomed to oratory, “The honor is mine, Sir.  On behalf of my people, and in the name of our alliance, I accept your hospitality, Master Strange.”  Moraine paused, studying him closely, before adding, “May the worlds we serve continue to benefit from our partnership.”
Strange motioned her to take a seat, then sat himself, while Wong moved forward to pour tea for the Hadeethan woman; the ensuing silence enough to allow Stephen an observation or two.  She was definitely dignified (royalty was the first word that came to his mind), aloof and otherworldly; she wore her thick, silver hair loose and unadorned, for surely nothing could flatter her more than it’s natural glory; and the only subtle sign of age he could discern, were small crinkles at the corners of her pale grey eyes--but since he knew the average Hadeethan lifespan was upwards of 150 Earth years, they gave no clue regarding her actual age.  There was a palpable feel of strength of will about her, as though her spine were made of steel.  Moraine appeared—in short—to be a power to be reckoned with.  He vowed to tread carefully regarding whatever topic she had arrived to discuss.
She sipped her tea, then nodded her approval, “Ah…it’s been far too long since I sampled this welcoming taste of Kamar-Taj.  Though I regret I shall never raise my cup with the Ancient One again.”
“Her loss remains a heavy one for us to bear, Mistress Moraine,” he replied, a truth he felt most keenly every day, “And nothing would make me happier than for her to be here in my place.”
“I bear the condolences of my people for the dread passing of a wise leader and constant ally,” she told him, “And for myself, I share in your grief; for I had known the Sorcerer Supreme from my youth—as a teacher, then a mentor, and at the last, a friend.”
“I envy you that,” he admitted, “We all miss her guidance—but we have done our best to go forward as we believe she would see fit.”
Moraine narrowed her eyes, looking for the truth in his reaction, “And you do not seek to guide in her place?  To bear the mantle she wore for centuries?”
Stephen shook his head vehemently, “I assure you, I am not that man.  And honestly, I can’t think of anyone who could fill her shoes.”
She nodded, pleased with his reply, than raised her cup.  “It is always so with the best of leaders.  May we all do her proud in the service we provide to our worlds.”
“May we indeed,” he echoed, drinking from his cup as well.
Tumblr media
Formalities now aside, Moraine was swift to reveal the surprising purpose of her visit.  “I come on a personal matter, Master Strange.  ‘Tis my hope you will entertain my request, if not for the sake of relations between our worlds, but for she whom we both miss.”
“I am certain we can accommodate you, Mistress Moraine.  The resources of Kamar-Taj are at your service.”
“Even as I had anticipated,” she asserted, wearing a small relieved smile, “As you may know, Hadeeth has a good share of practitioners of the mystic arts.  And in our culture, this is a thing well-known, even aspired to.  In fact, by long standing tradition, the majority of those who sit on our ruling council are skilled in magic.”
Strange nodded, having gleaned those facts from the Ancient One’s notes, “Magic being the primary reason our worlds are well-suited as allies.”
Moraine bobbed her head in a brief acknowledgement, then continued, “On Hadeeth, we have found that the aptitude for magic, and the strength to wield it properly, are most prevalent in certain bloodlines.  As a result, it is not uncommon for a particular clan to hold a council seat for several generations.”
“I take it that is your own experience,” he inferred.
“It is, Master Strange.  But seats are not granted automatically—and those aspiring to them must pass a series of tests, unique to the individual.”
“And these tests involve the use of magic?”
“Exactly so—and thus arises my need for your assistance,” she admitted.
A bit perplexed, he might’ve asked, but Moraine had anticipated his question.  “Not for myself, Master Strange—for my daughter, Teyla.”  And then surprising him, she added, “A daughter of both our worlds.”
Not having known such a mingling of their races was even possible, it took a moment for him to respond, “You’re asking that we train her here, in Kamar-Taj?”
Moraine’s face took on a pleasant sort of softness, clear sign of the depth of her feelings for her child.  “She has ever been my greatest treasure, and from the moment in which I discerned that she possessed aptitude for the mystical arts, I had planned to entrust my own best teacher with her tutelage.”  She lowered her eyes, her voice become sorrow-tinged, “Who could have anticipated that such a plan would go unrealized?”
Stephen remained speechless, moved by her quiet show of grief.  In the months since the Ancient One fell, he had learned things about her he had never expected—always making him long for the fruits of the wisdom she might have shared with him.
Having set aside her sorrow, Moraine looked to him again, firm of purpose, “Teyla’s skill--her strength—lies in the healing of body, mind, and heart.  And though this ability is a miracle in itself, it does not suit well the sort of trials she is likely to face in the fullness of time.”
The doctor in him wanted to ask more of Hadeethan healing magic, but the situation would not allow for it—though he made a promise to himself to learn more of their practices when possible, with an eye towards the exchange of knowledge that might enable him to fulfill again that purpose of more than half his lifetime.  “What training would best prepare your daughter for these future trials?”
Moraine looked please at his show of willingness, “She will need to develop defensive skills, for both her own safety, and for those who may someday fall under her protection.”  She paused, gauging his reaction, and then concluded, “Teyla also possesses a small degree of prescience, although she is not yet capable of employing it at will.  She dreams, yet cannot tell when the images may come to pass; she has strong, yet unpredictable, flashes of intuition, which she finds difficult to interpret.  This gift is useless to her until she can cultivate the proper wisdom and discipline.”
“There are no teachers on Hadeeth that might guide her?” he asked, “Seers are rare, even in Kamar-Taj.  I can’t guarantee our knowledge is enough to guide her beyond the most rudimentary training.”
“They are rarer still, on Hadeeth,” Moraine shrugged, “So rare they come but a handful of times in each generation.  Though I am her mother, I haven’t even a touch of that gift.”
Stephen nodded, considering her request a moment.  “We will do our best, Mistress Moraine—but in this case, I can make no promise.”
“I understand, Master Strange.  And with this understanding, I will entrust you with Teyla’s further education.  For the sake of our alliance,” she reminded him, “And for all the hopes a parent has for their child’s safety and happiness.”
Tumblr media
They had concluded their meeting by settling upon three Earth days as the interval until Teyla would arrive at Kamar-Taj.  “Of course, we’ll need to see what magic your daughter is already capable of, before we proceed with any training plan,” he cautioned her, as he and Wong escorted her back to the courtyard for her departure.  “Please be sure she understands what lies ahead.”
“Oh, she is already more than prepared for that,” Moraine told him gratefully, “And she has spent a share of time on Earth--living with her father for several years--so you should find she will easily acclimate to your world.”  With that, she drew on her sling ring—the magical tool which the Ancient One had shared with the Hadeethans, in consideration of their partnership—and conjured a portal back to her home world.  Stephen could discern very little of what lay on the other side; a room half lit with what could be daylight, vague shapes that were likely Hadeethan furniture.
Moraine turned his way, and bowed low, and then rose to meet his eye.  “Please keep in mind, Master Strange, that some of the tests Teyla may come to face are dangerous.  I beg you to see she is properly prepared to survive, beyond the training I have already given her.  I will be in your debt, and Earth’s, for the remainder of my days—and look forward to the day when I can be of service to your world, in return.”  She stepped into the portal, and raised her hand in farewell, closing the circle before he could utter a word in reply.
“Well, this should prove interesting,” Wong observed, “How much experience do you have dealing with teenagers?”
“Barely to none,” Stephen confessed, “And I hadn’t counted on being asked to play a schoolmaster to a rookie sorcerer.”
Wong chuckled, amused at Strange’s befuddlement, “I’m thinking diplomacy will turn out to be child’s play, compared to the task you have ahead of you.”
“Yes,” Steven agreed grimly, heading back to the library to continue his studies of earlier. “And I’d much rather be navigating my way through the human brain, then babysit an angsty adolescent.”

Infinity Business Alliance Lawsuit

Note
After finding out that there is a new High King of the Dead and the Infinite Realms the Justice League, JL Dark, The League of Shadows, and the Legion of Doom all scramble to try and make contact with the new king to try and win them to their side or at least off the sides of their opponents. Imagine their surprise when they finally track down a lead on the new king— all at the same time— only to find a teenager— a living one at that—stargazing on Aogashima while eating a burger and listening to Dance of the Blessed Spirits.
Danny is just exasperated. All he wanted was some alone time, was that too much to ask? After the people bothering him made it clear that they wanted alliances he had to stop himself from laughing.
The people of the Infinity Realms have never allied themselves with outside forces and never will, its just not in thier nature. They rarely join forces with other ghosts, there's no way they'd play nice with outsiders. So he decided to take his newly aquired political training and let them debate and try to make deals and hed just talk them in circles without getting anywhere and leave them thinking they had a chance.
They didn't, but that was for Danny to know.
