Tumblr media
pairing: mh!jungkook x reader
warnings: explicit language
genre: fluff
word count: 2k+
a/n: this has no plot, basically zero storyline as well but I still hope you enjoy reading this & get more insight into their friendship! this is from the time before their deal!
Tumblr media
“Who owns this house again?”
Can it be even called that? Where you and your friends are currently at is more like a mansion. One you barely get to see in person. The rich neighborhood and fancy cars around is enough of a clue that whoever lives in this mansion is freaking rich. It's the type you only see in movies.
“Taehyung's latest fuck.” Jimin responds, looking around the huge entry hall filled with people dressed in different costumes.
“She's not the latest.” Taehyung beside you rolls his eyes at Jimin, correcting him.
“Does she know that?” you question, met with an amused grin.
“No, why would she?” Confusion curls his features. He's wearing an orange overall, an unmistaken prisoner. “She fucks around too.”
It's not like Taehyung sleeps around with the same person. Not that you know much about his sex life, despite he's not shy to talk about it at all. He prefers to do one night stands. It's easier that way, he says.
“And she still invited you and your friends?”
He shoots you a toothy grin. “I guess she couldn't get enough of this cock.”
“Ew, what the fuck!” you exclaim, scrunching your nose as you push him away from you. Taehyung barely budges, laughing at the look of disgust on your face while Jimin rolls his eyes.
Taehyung refused to put a mask on or paint on his face. “I won't be covering this handsome face.”
That's what he told you when you first saw him. His costume is not exactly creative, but he does look good. But that's because he's already handsome and could pull off anything, not just anyone has this privilege.
“I need to look hot, chicks love this kind of costume.” You remember his voice in a cab on your way here.
As for Jimin, he chose more of a flashy costume and unlike Taehyung, he didn't mind to paint his face. Considering you've painted his face, you will take full credit for how good he looks. No need to mention you've painted it based on a picture he showed you. But still! It's your hands that created this masterpiece.
Jimin isn't one of those scary clowns wearing a big curly red wig. He has stuck to his blond hair, slicked it back while wearing what seems like an ancient blouse and pants. If he wasn't your friend, you would definitely think of him as a hot creature. The few eyes and looks your friends have managed to steal says it all.
And you?
You've had the hardest time to come up with any costume. You didn't want to spend too much money on something you wear for one night. Taehyung's ideas were all… too much.
“You should be a cat woman. You know, the one from Batman.”
One of his ideas.
“Be a sexy nurse, everyone loves that.”
It's over done a lot. Every year.
Despite not caring about Halloween parties at all – because you wouldn't come if it wasn't for Jimin and Taehyung – you wanted to look good and not wear one of those cliché costumes that people wear every year. You've seen two “nurses” already and you've been here for five minutes.
“Be a police woman. We can have matching outfits.”
But then…
“No, actually let's not do that. People are gonna think we're together and I don't want to be cockblocked that night.”
It was a nice idea but coming to a party as a police woman just wasn't the one.
“Be a witch. That would go with your personality.”
He joked and earned a slap to his shoulder.
Trying to stay true to the budget, you improvised and came up with your own costume. Okay, you might've bought a dress for this but it was on sale! Overall the costume didn't cost much. You've put some fake blood onto the dress and the corner of your lips. You're supposed to look like a bride with a spooky twist. It's not exactly original either but so far, you haven't seen anyone else dressed like this. You know you could do better if you truly wanted, get more creative. But there's also a budget you tried to stick to. Plus, you've done your make-up nicely, dark but nice.
“Alright, excuse me now, my friends. I see her and I'm gonna say hi.” He brushes past you, already shooting a wide grin toward a girl you suppose lives in this mansion.
“Do you think he's gonna fuck her again?” you ask before thinking. “Actually, don't answer that.”
Jimin laughs beside you, brushing his fingers through his hair. “I wouldn't put it past him.”
“Want a drink?”
You agree, a drink sounds nice. You don't know anyone here. Taehyung and Jimin are only people you know. And considering Taehyung just totally ditched you as soon as he saw a girl he fucked, you're left with Jimin.
“You can go too.” You make sure to tell Jimin when you make your way to the kitchen. The size of it is bigger than the place you live in.
“Don't be silly,” Jimin chuckles. “We're gonna have fun together. Tae will join us for sure later.”
You don't want to think what he's going to do until then.
“Jimin, I'm not a kid. You don't have to babysit me.”
“I'm not babysitting you,” He frowns, mixing the two of you a drink before he hands you one of the plastic cups. “There are too many people. I'm not saying it's dangerous here, but leaving you alone wouldn't sit well with me.”
You do appreciate his worry. Too bad Jungkook couldn't come. Not that spending time with Jimin and Taehyung isn't fun. But you were hoping he could join you too. You've never really attended a Halloween party before. It would be so much fun if all of you could be here.
After finishing your drink and chatting for a while, you get another one and move toward the living room where the lights are turned off, swapped for some party lights. It looks like a proper party here. There are people dancing. You and Jimin find yourself laughing at some silly costumes. You saw a banana costume and someone wearing a horse mask.
You have a good time. Someone Jimin knows joins you for a moment, one of his friends whose name you unfortunately forgot. It's not your fault though, the music is loud and you felt like an idiot to ask him again.
Jimin goes to grab you another drink, telling you to not move with a warning gaze, as if you would run away. Again, you appreciate the worry.
It's not even a minute later when some guy approaches you, obviously already in a good mood and tipsy enough to think he's the hot deal. You politely tell him to fuck off, ignoring the little scoff he gives you. You didn't come here to flirt or hook up with someone. Maybe you shouldn't scare away everyone. It's not exactly everyone though. You just don't like those types of guys who–
“Boo!”
You almost jump out of your skin and curse loudly, palm slapping against your chest as you turn around and see… a Spiderman?
You frown, guard up until the person suddenly takes off the mask and reveals your best friend.
“Jungkook?”
His hair is ruffled from the mask, a bunny grin attached to his lips as he laughs at your reaction.
“What–what are you doing here?”
He said he couldn't come because he had work. A Halloween party is not something you decline the money for, you completely understood that.
“We rescheduled the shoot,” he answers.
“But–wow. Why didn't you say you were coming?”
He grins again, cheekily adding; “Wanted to surprise you.”
You haven't seen him for two weeks or so. Everyone has been busy, Jungkook the most and last weekend you were hanging out with Jimin and Taehyung, he went on a weekend away with Kiko. They had it planned for weeks. So it's nice to see him in the flesh.
“Look at you,” he beams, staring you up and down. “A bloody bride.”
You roll your eyes playfully, “It's such a shitty costume.”
“Don't say that,” he laughs, “You look amazing.”
“I should've tried to be more creative. Just so you know, I could've nailed it. I have this costume in my mind, but I wasn't about to spend a fortune on one night.”
“Smart,” he muses. “What is this costume?”
“I'm not telling you,” you cheekily remark. “But look at you,”
Jungkook eyes himself, looking up with a smile.
His costume makes sense. You've watched Spiderman movies together (all of them) so many times. It's one of your favorite superheroes, both of you Marvel fans, but it's definitely Jungkook's favorite.
The lights aren't too bright but looking at him, you can tell his costume is not one of the cheap ones. It hugs his body perfectly, showing his figure and god–it feels sinful to look from his waist down. You can't do that. He glances behind, turning his body slightly before his attention is back to you. But it's not quick enough for you to not notice his perk ass. But then… Jungkook has always been built differently. He has worked hard for those muscles.
“Stop it,” he laughs at your words, refusing to grow shy. “Behave.”
“I'm not even gonna ask how much it cost.”
“Don't,” he assures you. “Too much for one stupid night.”
You both laugh. “You had a great opportunity to show up as a bunny.”
Jungkook playfully rolls your eyes at your comment, scrunching his nose a little. “Nah. I didn't want to be cute.”
“What vibe you were going for?” you tease.
“The hot superhero, of course.”
“God, you and Tae are the same.” you comment jokingly.
“Where is he anyway? I saw Jimin from a distance.”
“Oh, most likely having his tongue in some girl's throat I guess. Or worse.”
Jungkook laughs at the disgust you show, flicking your nose softly as you pull away. “I'm not even gonna ask.”
“Don't.” you hum, causing him to laugh. “I'm still bummed out you didn't come as a bunny though. You have a face for it.”
Jungkook throws his head back in laughter, shaking his head.
“No, I didn't mean it as an insult! You would look cute as a bunny.”
“We can do that next year. You could be a carrot.”
“Oh god, I'm shutting up now.”
He nudges you, causing you to do the same.
“Kook! Hi! You came!” Jimin joins you, hugging Jungkook right after he hands you your drink.
“Wait, you knew he's gonna come?” you ask. “And you didn't tell me?”
“Kook wanted to surprise you.” Jimin shrugs.
“Yeah, wanted to surprise you.” Jungkook muses, stealing the cup from you as he sips on it.
“Hey!”
“Shush, woman.”
You gasp. Jungkook's biceps bulge as he takes another sip of your drink. “Don't you shush me, Jeon.”
Jungkook gives you an amused smirk, turning his face back to Jimin who speaks again. “Where's Kiko?”
“Oh, she's not here. She had to stay overtime at work, too tired to come here anyway.” Jungkook answers.
“Jungkook-ah!”
Taehyung comes like a hurricane, bumping into a few people as they give him a dirty look, some of them changing their expression right after they spot him. You want to roll your eyes again.
“Let me guess, you knew too.”
“Knew what?” Taehyung asks, confused.
“He didn't.”
“Knew what?” Taehyung asks louder this time.
“That Kook is gonna come tonight.”
“Wait, you knew he's gonna come?”
“Yeah,” Jimin shrugs, “You have a big mouth. You would ruin the surprise.”
Taehyung gasps, “You guys act like it's a big secret.”
“It's not,” Jungkook laughs. “But we didn't want to take any chances.”
“Yah!” Taehyung exclaims. “Let's get drunk.” he adds more calmly.
All of you laugh, making your way to the kitchen. For the rest of the night, you hang out with your friends, savoring the moments. Even when Jimin throws up in front of the mansion in some fancy cut out bush, while Taehyung records him. You shake your head, but not be able to hide your own giggles. Jungkook does the same, holding up Jimin so he doesn't fall into the bush.
It's one of the many memories of tonight that joins the other ones you got to spend and experience with your precious friends.

dates enhypen members would take their s/o on
Tumblr media
synopsis: what the title says.
word count: 0.6k | genre: fluff, crack/humour | pairings: engyoen members x gn! reader | warnings: none
this is a very simple idea, but i think hee would love to stay at home with you, ordering good food and watching a movie or show together in the comfort of your own bed, cuddling and maybe even taking a nap between episodes. another possibility if he is feeling like going out is playing video games in an arcade since he loves them; he wants to win a prize for you for sure so he could boast about how good of a boyfriend he is, he literally wouldn’t shut up about it when he scores in the shooting game.
i am sure that jay would be giving you the absolute best treatment which includes going out to a famous fancy restaurant to eat something yummy. after that the two of you would drink a glass of fine wine or champagne while talking about many intellectual topics and him telling you about a new book he recently read, enjoying yourselves. if you felt up to it chilling in a private jacuzzi at a hotel room he rented would be a great alternative aswell, spending your time after the dinner there.
knowing how much he loves dogs jake would want to go to a dog café with you, he just loves animals so much so that he would be playing with them for hours without an end. he would melt while watching you with the puppies, his literal two favourite things in the world, you feeding them till they fell asleep on you. at the end of the playtime with the cuties he would probably ask you to go buy a puppy together immediately, that is how invested he would be in taking care of it with you.
this isn’t even a questionable date, of course hoon would opt for going to the ice rink, showing you his first love; figure skating. he would be all over you though, worrying if you knew how to do the moves properly, and steadying you every time you wobble a bit on the ice, making sure you made it out in one piece, which would cause you to laugh so hard at him the whole time. after the exercise he would buy you hot chocolate and a sweet treat for your hard work, whatever you wanted he would buy it for you.
sunoo was so excited when you mentioned liking theme parks, he immediately wanted to take you to one. he would be screaming his lungs off on the fun rides. even though he might not be the bravest of all, he would let you cling onto his arms when the seats jump on the tracks, or when the scary creatures jump out in the haunted house; your duo would be the loudest in the whole park, making eveybody’s attention go towards you.
jungwon values spending time in the nature, so he would suggest going on a day trip to explore different cities and sceneries around them, going on a hike or to the beach, whatever is near the city and is available in a few hours distance from the original location. you would make many memories, taking lots of pictures together at every sight, enjoying the adventure and the presence of each other.
riki would have you sit on a big blanket in the park while the two of you paint or draw silly pictures, recreating the challenge of switching the canvases every 5 minutes. he would be making the paintings funny and you would laugh so much on them, eating snacks and listening to calming music, letting the breeze of this wind create a great atmosphere, talking about everything in life.

Godzilla Minus One
Tumblr media
I’ve been going through something of a Godzilla crash course for the past year or so. When I was pretty little, I think I once rented a VHS of the original Godzilla from my local library. I don’t remember almost anything, but I think the themes and talking went over my head and I was mostly disappointed he wasn’t punching another monster. Then, I got a McDonald’s toy of the 1998 Godzilla, which was in my regular school backpack rotation for a while, and... that was about the extent of my experience with the guy.
Two of my best friends, though, are huge Godzilla stans who grew up watching just about every movie that’s ever released. After discovering my innocence, they’ve taken it upon themselves to educate me in his big scaly ways.
Most of these screenings were well before I started keeping this journal, so I don’t have deep thoughts on them. We started with Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla - wasn’t impressed by the robotic human characters, but Kiryu is sick as fuck, no getting around it. Next was Anno’s Shin Godzilla - as a lifelong Evangelion fan, I was really tickled by how much the entire movie felt like an extended, live-action Operation Yashima sequence, and the half dozen remixes of Decisive Battle were the icing on the cake. Final Wars, despite clearly being made by some folks who had just seen The Matrix and wanted in on that action, was exactly my kind of schlock and I honestly can’t wait to rewatch it. Tokyo SOS was kind of forgettable? …outside of the scene where the rival punches a fly out of the air one inch from someone’s face, which I now do weekly. And finally, All Monsters Attack was a wild fever dream of a movie; the plot is about a child vividly hallucinating Godzilla fighting giant crabs and shit in order to deal with his own growth and confidence issues, and that all works… exactly as well as it sounds like it would work. Overall, I’ve certainly enjoyed my time with the franchise, but it’s certainly in a more, I dunno, popcorny way.
Tumblr media
So color me surprised having seen Minus One and being genuinely impressed on all fronts!
This is easily the most compelling human storytelling out of all the Zils I’ve watched. To be honest, during the long gap between Godzilla’s introduction and his reappearance in the plot, I got so fully invested in the characters and the story that was unfolding, it was a little jarring having a big monster show up. The emotional core of the story, based around a found family trying to find meaning in their lives in a devastated, post-war Japan, was genuinely engaging, well-acted, and absorbing. I guess Godzilla being there is what got my butt into the seat, but I honestly wouldn’t have minded a more grounded take on this scenario/era either.
Tumblr media
I quite liked that Godzilla’s design in this movie felt focused around his aquatic habitat - he felt very lithe, crocodilian and deadly in the water.
Similarly, after spending so much time digging into the hopelessness felt at large by the citizens we see, and the widespread devastation of Tokyo after the firebombing, Godzilla coming in and attacking Ginza felt like a gut punch. Typically, in the Godzillas I’ve watched, at least, the moment where Godzilla finally shows up and wrecks shop is a moment for the audience to cheer. You recognize that the horror and destruction he’s wreaking is bad, of course, but for one reason or another the blow is usually softened tonally. In Shin Godzilla, for example, we watch plenty of montages of Japan’s well-oiled, calm evacuation plans being carried out, so we’re not worried as much about the human toll. In the more creature feature entries, like Tokyo SOS, these type of scenes are more WWE throwdown than human catastrophe - the city’s really just backdrop, and it’s time to get hype. Minus One even has some moments like this, in my opinion - the scene when Godzilla first engages the battleship and they cut off his iconic roar has strong “real done with your shit” vibes that make the film’s debut atomic breath a real crowd-pleaser.
But man, the Ginza scene? Absolutely devastating. Panicked, weary crowds, scores of people visibly trampled underfoot, the black rain calling back to Japan’s nuclear strikes… the entire scene is designed to be a nightmare, and I thought it was a powerful decision in a franchise movie to make the viewer squirm and wish the titular character hadn’t shown up at all.
Tumblr media
“Godzilla, bro, look. My job? The job I’m working to feed this orphan who showed up on the doorstep of my dead parents' house? That job is shooting active mines out of the ravaged coasts of my country on a fishing boat at great personal risk to myself and my only friends. Did we really need this? Was this warranted? Could you just like, fuck off?”
Overall, I just can’t get over how strong the character work and theming was. There’s a lot of musing on the value of a life, survivor’s guilt, and people grappling with the aftermath of a lost war while figuring out how they can still make a difference in their community. In the opening scene, you can already tell from the conversation between the main character and the engineer that they both understand the war is over, and yet Shikishima carries guilt with him the entire movie about not committing the meaningless sacrifice his country asked of him. He’s absolutely wracked with guilt, feeling that he’ll be rejected by society for failing - and to a degree he is, especially in the first act. After that, though, time and time again, the movie shows a community coming together, refusing to let each other give in and succumb to guilt, and finding ways to rebuild their home and move forward on their own terms, rather than under the direction of a government that's abandoned them.
The standout scene for me was Shikishima’s trauma coming to a peak when he wakes up at night and questions if he’s been dead all along, wondering if his current life is just a hallucination. I feel like I’ve seen that exact scene or moment in other media before, but it always felt like empty words, unconvincing; here, the buildup and acting was just so stellar that I fully resonated with this broken man and bought every word.

Stranger Swap
which may someday have an actual name, but probably not. for now, some organization
Based on this post I had like a year ago, a borrower and the human they live with suddenly and inexplicably trade sizes—but up until now, said human was unaware of the borrower's existence. I don't really have a large scale plot, but for context, after day one, the two continue to trade sizes irregularly general tag
Story and Characters under the cut
writing
So there's not A Story, but these should be in vaguely chronological order. Starred pieces make up The Plot
*a strange appearance (one, two, three, four, five)- the first time Val and Phoebe meet Dream (GT July 2023) - waking up on the couch *siblings and secrets (part of GT July 2023) - Hollow discovers something strange going on with his exiled sibling. Scary Movie (GTober 2023) - Val picks a movie
Other
Changeling Loredump Caught (again) (again) - art and a writing snippet from Val's backstory
characters
Tumblr media
Valentine Underjack, "Val"
Somewhere in their 20’s | 3.6” (or 5’5”) | they/them |
A pariah on the fringes of the apartment complex’s borrower colony. Val spent their adolescent years with a human girl a few years younger than themself and is not a fan of the whole “fending for themself” business they now find themself in. They want to prove themselves trustworthy to earn a place in the colony where they won’t have to leave the walls nearly so often.
They're not interested in finding out why there seems to be some kind of magic stalking them. Or why they don't look quite like a normal borrower. Really, they have a bad habit of bottling up their problems to ignore them. Surely something that goes unseen and forgotten can't cause any real problems.
Tumblr media
Phoebe Nilsson
22 | 5’11” (or 4”) | she/her, doesn’t mind they/them | AuDHD
A grad student who could probably be a mad scientist in another life,* but thankfully was was introduced to the concept of ethics in this one and generally kind—though a tendency to speak without thinking makes one wonder how considerate she really is. She wants answers to everything, even things most would believe are better left unsaid.
Tumblr media
Hollow
27 | 3.9” | he/him or she/her (bigender)
Val's brother, who more-or-less lives in the borrower colony inside Glenwood Court, but spends a good deal of time outside. Has a reputation for being highly capable and just as miserable. Guilty conscience. Doesn't like to talk about it. Or much of anything. Prefers to keep busy.
[no image yet ha]
Elytra Lightfoot, "Ely"
23 | 5.3" | he/him
An odd creature that lives on one of the balconies at Glenwood Court. He's generally known as the garden witch because he trades in things that shouldn't be possible. [underdeveloped but has actual connections/knowledge of faery, which is kind of important]
*these characters were originally not for GT. Phoebe (Felix, at the time lol) was a wizard who played with soulcasting and obliterated his colleague from the timeline. and now I'm like, oh, I could absolutely throw these two at a lab setting. will probably be an AU someday. so. in multiple other lives, she's a mad scientist for sure.

10 Scariest Movies I’ve Personally Ever Seen
Last year, I wrote a post about the 10 scariest movies I’d ever seen. I’ve since seen way more movies considered to be quite scary, and I have to say many of the ones on the old list I made aren’t scary to me at all these days haha. At least in comparison to many of the new and new-to-me movies I’ve seen since I made that original list. Some of them stood the test of time and remain on the updated list, but I hope you find some new recommendations. As before, this list is ranked and not definitive. Merely my opinion. Note: It has been a minute since I’ve seen some of these, so the trigger warning lists are not exhaustive.
Tumblr media
10. Buried (2010)
Genres: Psychological, thriller
A civilian truck driver in Iraq must work against the clock to get himself out of a buried coffin with little more than a lighter and a Blackberry.
Everything about this film is stressful. It starts stressful and doesn’t let up for the entire runtime. If you’re claustrophobic, maybe skip this one.
TW: claustrophobia
Streaming: HBO Max
Tumblr media
9. Gaia (2021)
Genres: Horror, thriller, fantasy
A South African forestry employee takes shelter with survivalists after being attacked by mysterious creatures in the woods.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but I will just say I had a nightmare about plants growing out of the bottoms of my feet when I was a kid that sort of scarred me for life, and this movie plays on that fear. Admittedly, it is a personal reason why I find it so scary, but nonetheless, it is sure to make your skin crawl.
TW: body horror
Streaming: Hulu
Tumblr media
8. See For Me (2021)
Genres: Thriller
A newly blind cat sitter is forced to rely on a seeing eye app in order to defend herself against dangerous intruders in the house she’s watching and unfamiliar with.
Home invasion is something that really gets under my skin personally, and I can’t imagine how terrifying it would be to have to navigate a situation like that while you’re losing the use of one of your senses. It’s not the best movie on this list, but it is quite tense.
TW: home invasion, violence
Streaming: Shudder
Tumblr media
7. Last Night in Soho (2021)
Genres: Horror, thriller
A young modern fashion design student is mysteriously able to enter the life of her fashion idol, a 1960s wannabe singer through her dreams. As the student taps more into her muse, she learns not everything as it may seem.
On paper, it doesn’t necessarily sound terrifying, but it gets scarier and scarier as the story unfolds. Again, I don’t wanna spoil too much.
TW: SA, violence
Streaming: HBO Max
Tumblr media
6. Host (2020)
Genres: Horror, found footage, supernatural
A group of friends hold a seance over Zoom to entertain themselves and spend time together during lockdown when a malicious spirit starts messing with them.
I’ll just leave what I typed for the original post: This entire film was written and produced during lockdown. Maybe that’s part of what makes it so scary. It uses one of the functions we found vital to stay connected during lockdown: Zoom chat. How terrifying would it be if you were talking to your friends over Zoom, they were being attacked, and there was nothing you could do about it? It really utilizes the format for its scares with its “less is more” mentality.
TW: gore
Streaming: Shudder
Tumblr media
5. The Strangers (2008)
Genres: Horror, home invasion, psychological
James takes his partner, Kristen, to the family vacation home for a relaxing weekend away that quickly sours due to random acts of harassment and violence.
The realism and arbitrary nature of the situation are what make this film terrifying.
TW: home invasion
Streaming: Nowhere rn
Tumblr media
4. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Genres: Horror, found footage, supernatural, psychological
Three college kids head into a forest in Maryland in an attempt to make a documentary about a local cryptid for a college film course when the subject of their film takes an interest in them.
Your imagination is far scarier than anything shown on screen, but that’s what’s scary about it. You can’t see exactly what’s happening, and the confusion and uncertainty are what cause you discomfort.
TW: gore
Streaming: Hulu, HBO Max
Tumblr media
3. Get Out (2017)
Genres: Horror, psychological
Chris goes upstate with his girlfriend for a weekend to meet her parents. Things are weird at first, which Chris perceives as racial awkwardness, but more and more disturbing discoveries begin to unravel as the weekend goes on.
This film is a disturbing reminder of how far people can, do, and would take racism. It’s also an exploration into how horrifying the loss of bodily autonomy is (a reality for some).
TW: racism
Streaming: Nowhere rn
Tumblr media
2. The Invisible Man (2020)
Genres: Horror, thriller, scifi
Cecilia runs away from her abusive ex-partner, then soon after finds out he’s dead. Weird things start happening to her as she tries to put her life back together in the aftermath of their relationship.
Honestly, this is one of the most terrifying things as someone with mental illness, a history of being abused, and just as a woman. The camerawork is some of the best I have seen in my life. It and the music are *so* terrifying. I cannot recommend this movie enough.
TW: abuse, psych unit, self h*rm
Streaming: Nowhere rn
Tumblr media
1. The Night House (2020)
Genres: Horror, psychological, supernatural
Beth is left alone to deal with her grief in her lakeside house after the death of her husband. Strange things begin to occur as she slowly uncovers disturbing secrets about a house he recently built.
I can’t really explain why this one freaks me out so badly. Definitely not without spoiling it, but also it scares me on a deeply existential level that I wouldn’t really be able to describe anyway, I don’t think. This might be one that you’d just have to watch and see for yourself. What scares me about this film is deeply personal. It captures a familiar desperate emptiness that I've tried so hard to hide away as my mental health has gotten better. It forces me to face something I don't want to face. But that's what makes the horror genre, dare I say it, something that can be so personal. It really is based on the life experiences we have that determine what we find to be the scariest.
TW: s*icide
Streaming: HBO Max
And that was my revamped list of scariest movies I’ve ever seen. And all of them are actually movies this time! Lol. Like I said, this is just my opinion. What we find scary is based on our individual life experiences. What do you think? What are the scariest movies *you’ve* ever seen? Are any of the ones on my list also on yours? Let me know! Hopefully you were able to add one or two of these to your Halloween watchlist this year. Happy spooky season!

Fighter #04-E - Dark Samus
Tumblr media
- This creepy Phazon creature can sneak up behind someone very easily. It’s part of the reason why Samus is so paranoid all the time.
- She somehow found a way to stick to walls and hang from ceilings, which scares the crap out of everyone.
- When she first met Richter, he thought she was a demon and chucked holy water at her. Needless to say, he was very lucky that he escaped with his life that day.
- When she's not wreaking havoc on distant alien planets, Dark Samus has quite a lot of time on her hands. She spends most of her free time reading encyclopedias, studying fighters’ behavior, and building social skills.
- Dark Samus has gotten electrocuted twice trying to fix the circuit breaker during power outages. Electricity doesn’t affect her as much as it would a human though, so she’s okay.
- During her first few weeks at the mansion, Dark Samus didn’t even bother to use doors. Instead, she just blasted her way through the walls and got in a lot of trouble for it.
- Due to her lack of social skills, she has stalker-like tendencies and doesn’t know what personal space is.
- She doesn't really feel much in terms of emotions, so social encounters are always super awkward. She read somewhere that people usually convey strong emotions through physical movements. So, when talking to the other fighters, she tries to do that, but it always ends up being really overexaggerated. For example, when she tries to show happiness, she does a small twirl in the air. Don't get her wrong, she's not doing this in the hope of making friends. She's doing this to gain emotional leverage over people. I think the only emotion she genuinely feels is anger.
- As mentioned before, she spends a lot of time learning about the world around her, but every so often, she gets bored. As much as she loves learning new information, Dark Samus needs to switch it up every now and then. So, she started learning how to do tricks with the Plasma Whip. It’s since become her new favorite thing.
- Isabelle, being the kind soul that she is, tried to teach Dark Samus how to hug. It seemed so innocent and wholesome, until poor Isabelle nearly got her spine crushed. The Phazon warrior didn’t care though, because now she knew another way to manipulate and kill someone.
- Sometimes, she just disappears inside the mansion and no one knows where she is or what she’s doing.
- She also has a habit of sneaking out of the mansion, using clones as stand-ins so nobody knows she’s gone.
- If Dark Samus somehow gets caught sneaking out, she’ll brainwash them into forgetting she was there.
- What the Phazon creature does outside of the mansion is unknown. She could be building a giant death laser, for all anybody knows.
- The kids originally thought she was some sort of weird ghost, so they tried using Luigi’s Poltergust on her. To their shock and horror, it didn’t work.
- She and Ridley have the weirdest relationship. One minute, they’ll be terrorizing people together, then the next, they’ll be at each other’s throats.
- Dark Samus is easily one of the biggest threats to peace within the Smash universe. If the other villains want to start killing everybody, they’d make it known. But if Dark Samus wants to start killing everybody, nobody would realize until it was far too late.
- In fact, she could probably brainwash all of them into killing each other while she sits back with a bowl of popcorn, watching with genuine amusement for once in her life. Luckily, since Samus is her main target, that’s a thought she hasn’t considered. Not yet, anyway.
- She avoids water like the plague for some reason. If someone accidentally spills some on her, she’ll recoil, hiss like a cat, then just disappear down the hallway. It’s one of the strangest things she does, and that’s saying a lot.
- She frequently mimics Samus just to annoy her.
- When October comes around, Dark Samus does all the classic horror movie stuff just to scare the fighters. Someone will be in the bathroom, minding their own business, when all of a sudden, Dark Samus is just standing behind them in the mirror, completely still. She’ll hide in fighters’ closets when they think they’re alone and jump out when they least expect it. She’ll put spiders on people’s pillows, and leave footprints of fake blood around the mansion, and whisper to the fighters in creepy voices during the night. Not to mention, she’s been caught burning things outside several times. Nobody knows what she’s burning though, because no one dares to go near her.
 - On the topic of fire, this poison-given form has attempted arson countless times.
- She tried using the Beetle item as a spying device once, but quickly learned that it’s not made for stealth.
- For some reason, Dark Samus really likes Russian food. If there isn’t at least one Russian dish per week, she’ll start destroying valuable items.
- She’s super intelligent when it comes to combat and alien customs, but completely stupid when it comes to blending in amongst people.
- She bought an alien newt off the dark web. Everyone thinks it’s a pet, but she actually got it to spy on the other fighters. Samus finds it extremely unfair that Dark Samus can have a pet and she can’t. Ridley doesn’t like to eat amphibians, so there's no chance he'll go after the newt.
- When the hallway is too crowded for her liking, she gets into Ball Form and rolls through the vents. Lucas does not stop making Among Us jokes whenever she does it.
- Dark Samus is the dark counterpart of Samus, so naturally, she hates everything that Samus likes.
- Dark Pit is the closest fighter she has to an actual friend. They bond over the few similarities they share, the biggest being that they're both dark counterparts. He’s the only fighter she would (maybe) spare if she tried to kill everyone in the mansion. She even allowed him to name her newt, which he decided to call Hades.
- Speaking of the dark angel, Dark Samus has brainwashed him a bunch of times just to indirectly make fun of Pit. He honestly doesn’t mind, considering he probably would’ve done that regardless.
- Samus and Solgaleo vs. Dark Samus and Lunala — easily one of their best matches of all time.
- Lunala is the only living creature within the Smash universe that Dark Samus has a faint fondness for (aside from Dark Pit, maybe). She’s always there to give it some extra Poke Beans during meal times.
- She teases Samus to no end. Snake is a big enemy of hers because of this.
- There are very few folks who will willingly go near Dark Samus. Even the other villains get a bad vibe from her.
- Her favorite Song from the Smash soundtrack is Vs. Parasite Queen. To her, it sounds like something you can destroy an entire civilization to. Not that she plans on doing that… at least, not anytime soon…
Note: I hope you enjoyed all of these! Next up, the gluttonous egg dragon/dino!

Hi, so I have a question that may be a little difficult to answer but one I'm very curious about, so here goes: what variation of each christine costume would you say is the most historically accurate? Like has the most explicit historical references or has the most period flare? Sorry if it's a bit vague, but I'm just happy to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
Ooooh. That is a hard one indeed. If we can be a bit flexible with what historical reference we're talking about it should be do-able. For example, many Hannibal Slavegirl bodices seems to lean towards the 1910s and 1920s. So they are period, just not Victorian era period. Same for elements in the other mock operas and in Masquerade. Anyhow...
I love the drama of the US Hannibal Slavegirl costumes. The bold Egyptian revival tiaras, the bra-like bust deco, the heavy beading. It very much reminds me of the early silent era movie designs. Especially Sarah Brightman’s original tiara with dangling ear pieces!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Elissa I always felt there was a strong influence from Minoan snake goddess statuettes. There’s something about the long skirts with decorated hem and draped aprons, and bodices with “bare” breasts. Although the Elissa costumes has gotten increasingly splendid and larger these last 30 years, I always had a weak spot for Rosemary Ashe’s original West End look, where the Elissa costume gives us a bustle shape to reflect on the Victorian era, but also a silhouette and details reminding of the Minoan figurines. I think much of the same applies for a wide range of early Christine costumes, be it German, US or Australian. So it’s not so much a specific costume; rather than the silhouette is still conical and bustle like, and there’s visible details like the X-decorated hem, curved apron and “bare” breasts. Here’s an early Broadway skirt worn by Rebecca Luker, next to the so called larger Minoan snake goddess:
Tumblr media
For the dressing gown it feels more like Maria Bjørnson wants to give us a movie moment. The dressing gown itself is a phenomenon, a silhouette, a total look. It is lending from Edwardian frolick splendour rather than the Victorian era. But also... Romy Schneider as Sissi, anyone? From dressing gown to flowing hair to boudour with mirror and flowers. She’s literally quoting this scene in the visuals:
Tumblr media
For Il Muto it always felt like they were going for fun Rococo rather than period rococo. They are theatrical and larger than life, the 18th century seen through a Victorian lense, so to speak. The ones going the most period also move away from the design (like some of the German “Rococo” dresses). I will therefore not spend very much time on these, but I want to mention the Australian/World Tour Serafimo look, with a shirt/blouse that is discrete and V-shaped in the neckline, but with huge sleeves and black bows, to match the black breeches. Such a cool period look. Here it’s paired with one of my favourite illustrations, “An Actress at her Toilet, or Miss Brazen just Breecht“ by John Collet (1775).
Tumblr media
For the Rooftop I always wondered if Maria Bjørnson gave us another movie moment. The original West End and Broadway Rooftop dresses put next to Shirley Temple as Marie Antoinette in “Heidi”...! The West End dresses even had the big bows at bodice front, while the Broadway dresses did the multiple-layer petticoat. The costume since changed a lot, into a heavier and more beaded attire with almost Prussian equestrial decorations. It’s an interesting creature... Here’s Maria Kesselman in West End, and Shirley Temple in Heidi:
Tumblr media
Now, the Star Princess... There are many 18th and 19th century costumes playing with allegories on day and night, sun and moon, sunset, night sky, time and so forth. I think the Star Princess can be read into this tradition. She may be Aurora, bringing the day light. She may be a celestrial goddess, a star. She may be an allegory of time passing. Add that the early versions of this costume gave Christine a tutu, reflecting on her status as a ballet dancer. I love that, and think it’s a lovely period feature. Hence, tutu-like skirts and a clear star/moon symbolism is where I feel I see period influence. For example an original/early Broadway costume worn by Brigit Brady, next to an allegory of day and night (seen here is “night”):
Tumblr media
For hardcore period details in the Wishing costumes I always loved the little twists seen in the Canadian and Australian dresses. For the Canadian ones they did huge skirt and short bodice - very 1870s - along with spiral stripe pattern on the sleeves and oversized cuffs. More or less the spitting image of an 1870s fashion plate!
Tumblr media
The Australia ones, on the other hand, did narrower V-shaped neckline which are sometimes high-necked in the back, as well as uniquely pleated main skirts. Very cool period flair.
For Aminta, I again get ballet costume vibes. “Spanish costume” was a repertoire dress for the 19th century ballet world, and the Aminta costume leans into this tradition: often pink or red dress with black lace, bell shaped skirts, bodice with defined stomacher. Here’s one example of Fanny Elssler in “Spanish costume”, next to a West End dress (worn by Maria Coyne) as I always felt they did exeptionally well-fitted bodices and stomachers, and the very period-appropriate small apron:
Tumblr media
But the Aminta costume also reflects on 18th century European fashion, with the zone front so popular in the 1780s and 1790s. Here’s from a 1780s fashion plate:
Tumblr media
For the wedding dress... A very hard one. On one hand there’s been so many lovely takes on it, with small gorgeous details and amazing silhouettes. On the other hand it’s one of those costumes becoming more and more theatrical, like the Rooftop one. First time I saw a good photos of Sarah Brightman’s Broadway dress, however, I was floored. It looks like they fitted her with a goddamn museum piece - and I mean that in a good way! The very rich fabric, the softness of the whole look, the wider sleeves, the small buttons, and not all that... stuff decorating the bodice. Man. So my vote totally goes to that one. Here it’s paired with an 1880s wedding dress bodice from The Met:
Tumblr media
For each example mentioned here I could mention probably ten more... So it’s just to get a glimpse of possible inspiration, similar designs and/or my personal take on it all.

Long abandoned OCs? In a cult for Prefect? sips tea tell me more
...you sure you want to open this can of worms buddy? Cause I will talk. And talk I shall!
Under the cut of course cause I know not a lot of people are interested in OC's. And I have quite a bit to talk about. Mind you, they're not twisted or based off of any character. If you find similarities, they're coincidental.
Also, if anyone is questioning, yes you can ask for OC x Reader asks of my OCs. I made them to be a bundle of issues and eye candy after all. I encourage it.
If you make an OC and want to add them to the Eldritch Prefect Club, by all means, go on ahead.
Vio
He's shaping up to be someone of partial fae origins, though he's more human that he is fae. Either way, he's from a crumbling family name as a result of some bullshit his ancestors pulled against a high noble fairy(The Queen of the Faeland is who the ancestors offended so he experiences some nasty pranks from the fairies working at NRC) at some point or another, that he and his family still experience the effect of to this day. He's a bit of a nasty man, the kind to want to fully understand his object or person of fear for the sake of dealing with them better. So despite his fear of fairies, he knows a concerning number of facts about them, including ways to ward and even kill them, though he's never tried to. He's not that nasty. One day Vio and his friend came in contact with a particularity nasty spider's web as a result of a little fairy's prank while they were looking for an ingredient for their potions class. It was hard to get off at first, but then those silver threads melted and they didn't really think much of it. Until they started having nightmares. Until they started forgetting the most simple things. Their grades started falling, they started waking up with headaches, often times they even forget what they're supposed to eat. Then Vio meets the Eldritch Prefect as they're extracting the silver threads while his friend was sleeping. He passed out, and he woke up, no headaches, no nightmares, and he can actually remember what he's supposed to do today. He doesn't know what they did, he doesn't know if they have any good intentions at all, but Vio joins the research club for the sake of understanding better, because to understand is to dispel fear. And perhaps, if he can learn how to kill you, he can use those methods to kill the creatures that almost kill him and his friend. Appearance wise, Vio has dark purple hair and he struggles to tame his curly locks. He usually keeps it in a high ponytail with two braids among the tied locks and spends a decent amount of time taking care of it. It's one of his good points he's really proud of. He has the customary sharp ears of anyone with fae blood in them, though they're not as prominent as you would expect. His skin is more closer to tan than pale and has the most piercing yellow eyes. Unfortunately for him, he resembles that ancestor more than anyone so revenge hungry fairies love to pick on him more than anyone. He's an easy bullying target.
Antas M. Agoria
He's another mix breed, though he is fully fae. Half butterfly fae, half spider fae, and a very famous and old actor who's also a part of Pomefiore. Though, because he suddenly went off the grid, his fame was put behind him. Movies, series, photo shoots, you name it, he's been in it. Though... Antas had a particular love for stage plays. While the art may not be the most popular form of entertainment, he still held those years close to his heart before his dear dear mother forced him to stop. Before vanishing from the public eye, Antas was considered the most beautiful. Delicate butterfly wings on his back at will, scales that scatter and float when he's in a perfectly happy mood, lilac hair and eyes with perfectly unblemished skin. Truly his butterfly fae origins are something to be proud of. But what about his spider side? Well, good luck getting a good look at them. He's very good at hiding them. Though, if you look closer, you will notice a lack of pupils in his eyes. There are little mark, six of them in fact, hidden behind a layer of make up on his forehead. And his arms and hands, which are always hidden behind gloves and sleeves, are covered in a near black carapace, ending in claws that could easily rip apart soft flesh. He even has extra spider limbs, but good luck getting him to show you that. Because I'm a self indulgent shit, I have it were Antas was another actor that Vil had admired when he was kid, while his Dad was his ultimate goal, Antas was also another source of inspiration, along with being a cautionary tale. You can only imagine the conflicted feelings Vil must be feeling when Antas suddenly shows up one day to NRC. Anyways. How could he not find a kinship with you? How could he not fall into deep fascination over the mask you wore to the everyday public, over the part of you that wraps around another, more nightmare-ish side to you? Antas loves acting, but Antas loves creating. And oh are you a source of inspiration. His skills are put to shame in comparison to you, where your very human skin was mask shown to all. Antas joins the club with the hope that you'll show everyone you'll show all parts of yourself one day. For now, he's content to spoil your shell. He understands the need to hide parts of your true nature, and while Antas calls your human skin a mask, he doesn't treat it as a fake part of yourself, just a layer.
The rest below are not as detailed, so forgive me for that.
Tul'Veith
A long abandoned god, older than Lilia on the account that his myths are still studied about to this day but his body is young, as he is constantly being reincarnated, but his siblings have long since been forgotten about. Any attempts to get them to be remembered have been met with raised eyebrows and dismissals. While on his records, his name is Shiloh, he insists on being called Tul'Veith. He joins your club on the account that you remind him of his siblings, and is suspecting(wrongly) that you might be of the same breed as him. So he aims to recruit more people in, as he so desperately doesn't want you to disappear. He is a most gentle man, but is also another easy bullying target. His magic is nothing to write home about. He's very weak, even Grim would be able to bully him. Doesn't help that, of all dorms to be sorted into, the mirror sorted him into Diasomnia. He's tall, but very skinny, like the wind could knock him over. Summer is his most hated season and is a lot more suitable for winter. In fact, he almost blends into it. Crowley even noted how much he resembles a winter fairy on his pallid skin and pure white hair and light gray eyes. But even so, his body is still very much human.
Goliath
Not his actual name but I don't have one for him just yet, but that's the nickname everyone gives him, on the account he a huge 7'9 tall man. Huge dude, very muscular, and very silent. In fact, anytime he talks, his voice rumbles through you, as though his baritone is traveling through your bones. He has long black hair, which he keeps in a slick pony tail, has reading glasses, dark eyes and an umber skin tone. He's already huge in his human form, and he's even more colossal when in his whale form. Cause, you know, whales. Goliath is from the darker depths of the sea, with a curse placed upon him that seeks to make him grow eternally, and also make him eternally hungry. Right now, he can control his hunger, and throwing himself into his research for a way to reverse this curse before it can consume him. Goliath has some misguided reasons as to why he joined your club, and that's because he thinks you're also a person that's been cursed, though in case you're cursed to eventually have your human side degrade until you become something incomprehensible, so along side his research, he's looking for a way to keep that "curse" at bay. And when he's not doing research, he's practicing his singing. He's a very beautiful singer, though that's if you manage to catch him. Though, that is extremely rude as singing has a different meaning to him than just a simple hobby. Funnily enough, he's been sorted into Ignihyde.
Cheridal
An octavinelle student who is entirely human. Pink hair that ends in red at the base of their neck, and was an absolute menace back at home on the account he was a lone wolf that would go around and beat people up for making fun of his parents ice cream shop. That was going through some rough times. Though, when digging deeper into that reason, you'd find he was simply using that as an excuse to pick fights. Just because it was true doesn't make it any more justifiable. Though, when that's not happening, Cheridal is actually a very pleasant person to be around. Charismatic, a very soft and gentle voice to those that need it, and is, overall, not quite what you'd expect from someone that claims to be a gang leader. Though, that isn't to say that Cheridal doesn't crave the power high that comes from fear. Cheridal joins your club for the simple fact of wanting to see how much your influence will grow. And, if there comes a time where you decide to turn on every one, well, he wants first class seats to such an event.
I'm pretty sure I have more oc's somewhere in my mind but I can't remember for the life of me. Usually I need some suggestions or hear of a troupe I really like and then I start making a character from there.

Movies to watch this Holiday Month
Films that somehow seemed to capture the spirit of a home
Abominable (2019)
Tumblr media
A film by the Dreamworks Animation company, this movie is wholesome and much more. The story starts with a girl from an Asian household, little and quite rebellious. With nearly nothing comforting her in any way, we quickly see her working hard for something that she wants to save up for. At the same time, we see a creature, quite furry and obscure hiding in places and then coming to her roof, where she has a shrine for her father's belongings. What then ensues is a beautiful relationship between a girl and an incredible being.
With no idea of what the film would be about, this movie was enchanting and tear-jerking in a comforting way. The graphics are incredible with the music syncing beautifully with it all. A film that would appeal to children as well as people of all ages, this can be watched any day to spend time together. Mild spoiler, the song by Coldplay in this film feels absolutely beyond the world.
The Sky is Pink (2019)
Tumblr media
Another favourite, this was incredible in the new generation of Bollywood films. With quite a bit of adult language and some sensitive topics being discussed in the film, it is a little delicate to watch it with little children. But otherwise, the film is based on the real-life of Aisha Chaudhary, diagnosed with health issues in her infancy, where we see her live her life and talk about love quite like she did as a motivational speaker. While it is easy for us to dismiss a person's lifestyle identifying them as sick or disabled, this little girl shows us how perspectives can be turned around to do anything you want.
With a touch of reality shrouded with cinematic entertainment, this film is a serious must-watch for anyone. The bonding this family has is everything anyone would wish for with little moments throughout the film that heals the soul. And with the actual brother of the protagonist having contributed his music for this film, it is entertaining and gives any individual something to ponder about.
Pan (2015)
Tumblr media
We all know the story of Peterpan and Tinkerbell whisking Wendy to the Nevernever Land, away from the orphanage she was in. This film shows us the tale of Peter becoming a part of the Nevernever land, something outlandish and grimmer than imagined. This film shows us Peter picked from the orphanage by people trafficking people into a magical place where Blackbeard is ruling the land. Making new friends and looking for a mother who he never thought he would find, this film is full of beautiful graphics and an amazing storyline.
Having brought many things into the storyline compared to the original story, this film was not as received well by the cinema, and so became an underrated gem. With Hugh Jackman in a significant role, this tale is splendid for all audiences and a really good family watch. With fantasy creatures all over the story and endearing characters, it is a memorable watch.
Over the Moon (2020)
Tumblr media
Featuring the story of a young girl who lost her mother due to an illness, this little girl sets out to build a rocket to go to the moon to meet a mystical goddess. With an unusual plot that doesn't make sense without the cultural background, this film is set in a Chinese household where they make mooncakes for a living. A loving father who adored her, FeiFei was still adamant and steadfast in finding the Moon Goddess to prove that she was, indeed, real. With so many challenges in her way with only her mind and will against it all, this story amazes anyone who has a conscience.
Sceptical to watching a random movie on an OTT platform, I thoroughly did not expect it to be sensitive and thought-provoking to people of all age groups. The film so delicately addresses depression, coping mechanisms and many more things that are still shamed in today's world. A tale of mythical fantasy and childish joy, this film appeals to children and anyone who enjoys a good animated film.
Naanu Nanna Kanasu (2010)
Tumblr media
Put together over two decades ago, this Kannada film is beyond time and language barriers. A story about a father learning to deal with his daughter getting married to a man of another culture, it is entertaining and brings relevance to the tale. With Prakash Raj leading as the father, this film is hilarious and speaks of a story perceivable by anyone. A father's daughter as a child, now a grown woman making decisions beyond his imagination, this story shows us a tale that is universal amongst all parents.
Prakash Raj, known for his impeccable acting and quality performance, in this film brings out so many facets of his skills. A father through and through, his character questions her decisions, his worth in her life, and the seriousness of this entire situation. Set in a traditional house in Karnataka, this wedding about to happen is an experience to watch.
Hichki (2018)
Tumblr media
A story of a woman stubborn in her ambition to be a teacher, it entails a tale of quirky students being mentored by a teacher with Tourette's syndrome. The world is against her for her ambition in being a teacher and is constantly being mansplained by everyone who interviews her, Rani Mukerjee has done an excellent job as Nina Mathur. Finding a role in an elite school she went attended as a student, this film takes us on a ride till the end.
A school with an obsession with elitism and high marks, and students being admitted with a change in educational policy, this school challenges the students of a different community to keep up with the world. With a narrative that is common to every student of this era and any teacher, this film is familiar and fun to watch at any time of the day. A wholesome story to connect with, this film was eccentric and unorthodox while setting standards.
777 Charlie (2022)
Tumblr media
Another gem from the Kannada industry, this film is beyond any age restrictions and appealing to all. It is a story of a man and a dog getting attached beyond reason, and then experiencing a whole new world because of each other. A depressed man living day to day with no direction in his life and a young pup having travelled across cities only to settle outside his home to eat his leftover idlies. With a story that seems cliche and yet unique, this film takes us on a journey beyond our homes and our scepticism on how we can choose to love.
With the film still trending across television channels and OTT platforms, this film is available to watch over any weekend with friends or family. While I was excited that it was a Rakshith Shetty film, known for his style of acting and next-door boy charm, I was hesitant with anticipation to go on the emotional rollercoaster. And the film delivered it wondrously. With the stubborn pup being hell-bent on getting his affections and him being naturally dismissive of affection itself, this duo is enough to make any grown man cry.
Shaandaar (2015)
Tumblr media
Not having run that well during its initial release, I believe this film became a cult classic with only selective crowds finding the appeal in its direction and narration. I would call it mildly underrated, even with many significant Bollywood actors due to the narration being highly romanticised, which is appealing to any imaginative individual. An orphan girl adopted into an extremely wealthy family, initially dismissed for her quirks, she develops close bonds with her sibling and her father. Fast forward to the present, the sibling is getting married when somehow Alia meets a man who is constantly competing with her father to prove himself.
With a quirky flair to the dialogues and imagined animation popping every few minutes, I find the film immensely visual and with a unique story. While the dynamic is common, something atypical is Alia Bhatt's character being an insomniac. Much like in fairytales her father would have promised to find her a guy who would make her sleep. While it is cliche, she ironically finds Shahid Kapoor's character is also an insomniac. It is a good watch for a mixed audience and makes for an entertaining time.
Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu (2016)
Tumblr media
Ananth Nag and Rakshith Shetty are the leads for the film, which is a story of a workaholic son who is constantly mindless towards his father suffering from Alzheimer's. Having not expected much, with a film title that made no sense, this film is a highly enlightening watch. Between his work calls and regular visits, he loses his father right in front of his house. With no idea on where he could have gone, the son sets out to find him along with his father's daughter. As a mild spoiler, the title comes to light when it is the description used to find his father.
Starring numerous actors of high calibre, this film brings us a story from South India that feels extremely homely and cosy. With the visuals having been crafted very delicately to match each aesthetic, and the narration takes us on a journey on the person Ananth Nag's character was, this film makes us ponder on numerous things while also keeping us entirely engrossed and engaged.
English Vinglish (2012)
Tumblr media
Made precisely a decade ago, this film was screened internationally and all over India. It stars Sridevi as the protagonist, a small-time caterer and a housewife in urban India. While her children went to a catholic school and her educated husband worked every day, it was common for them to dismiss her lack of knowledge and skills in English. As the story brings us a wedding scenario where she has to travel to New York to her niece's place, she is terrified of the prospect that she does not know how to communicate in English. This film shows us a perspective that most of us have overlooked easily and brings in a narrative that takes much courage and shows us the strength of this Indian woman.
Having read numerous articles regarding this film and written about it in a college essay, it was this film that woke me in several ways we patronize mothers and women in our household. While it isn't easy to admit, many of us dismiss the knowledge and experience that comes with a woman taking care of a home, much like the protagonist. The dialogues break our hearts, especially her perspective of the treatment pinches us in hidden ways. Gauri Shinde directed this film in dedication to her mother who was also a housewife with no knowledge of English. All in all, this movie is for all audiences, especially children so that they can be illuminated through this.
Instant Family (2018)
Tumblr media
The story starts with a classic white couple having a wonderful marriage, travelling places and exploring hobbies. Until they finally acknowledge they have something missing in their lives. But instead of opting for a child of their own, they explore adoption or foster options where they choose Lizzy, who comes as a package with her two younger siblings. With barely any clue on how to be a parent, they welcome three children into their lives and home. But we all know that changes come with challenges. And hence starts their struggle to learn how to be a family.
This film, humorous by nature, has many notable details that make it unique while also challenging our perception of what a family should be. While we may initially laugh at how they all struggle to cope, we also see them being patient with each other and bonding over simple things that seem superficial sometimes. While the kids have moved from foster home to foster home and are inept at handling themselves, they struggle to let an adult take care of them. And while the couple thought it would be easy to manage children with their childhood memories to guide them, they slowly understand the perspective of the children that they brought home. It is insightful to watch this at any age and entertaining to any audience.
Night at the Museum (2006)
Tumblr media
With a normal enough name as the film title, this film was brilliant and educated me in many ways when I was a child. The movie starts with a divorced father trying to find a stable job to meet his son regularly, who happens to chance upon the Museum of Natural History in need of a nightguard. With a simple job and three shoes to fill, he takes this job seriously with no idea of what would come next. Larry is terrified and astonished on the first night to discover that the museum comes to life every night to have its moments and breathe.
While the idea is refreshing, we see parts of history that are given a unique voice in this film, and it is also thoroughly entertaining and a classic for fantasy fiction lovers. Being nearly as old as my sibling, this film was a classic repeater on my favourite English movies channel on television. They screened it every week, and what's more, we watched it every time for how layered the story was. While the plot is simple, the story in itself is brilliant for the year it was made and the CGI that brought the imagination to life. With a fresh perspective on history and classic humour, this film is a splendid watch for anyone who likes a good time.
Vaah! Life Ho to aisi (2005)
Tumblr media
Available to watch for free on Youtube and on Amazon Prime, this film is a throwback to two decades ago when values were different and so was the universal modern. The story starts with Adi being a part of a big family with his brother's kids to look after along with his older sibling and mother. Working alone for the household, he meets a girl that he quickly falls in love with and they decide to get married. All is going well when suddenly he dies in an accident and is then collected by a very modern-looking Yamraj, a lookalike of Sanjay Dutt. With his family in financial and fraud trouble, he is granted to help them out as long as he promises to come back. What then ensues is for the audience to discover and enjoy.
The film is obviously old with a perspective that today's kids need to watch. Showing us Shahid Kapor early in his career, this movie has an innocence that is not very common in today's world of infodump and knowledge is power. Having watched this film long ago, it was a kids' favourite back then and is entertaining for anyone. While some things might not be the same today, kids always enjoy a good film if it matches their pace and is fun.

can i hear about your interpretation of victor zsasz??
The easiest thing to do would be to dig through my archive searching the Zsasz tag there... But like if you want some Greatest Hits of mine...
- Victor Zsasz is an irredeemable monster. Honestly had it not been for Danny Jacobs’ superb voice acting in Arkham City I would not care about this character and rage about his squandered potential like I do.
-I pick and choose what I accept as canon because he is so mistreated as a character. I accept all that Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle did, as they created Zsasz. They were his fathers. I think they would know best. They originally created Zsasz to be Gotham’s Hannibal Lecter- an unnervingly shrewd, intelligent, and abhorrent creature in a man suit. Also other Important Things like
1) Zsasz hates guns. He considers them clumsy, noisy, and he hates the smell of them. He only uses a gun when he does not have any other sort of weapon available.
2) Zsasz is canonically the only villain who can sneak up on and take Batman by total surprise.
3) Zsasz has killed hundreds. The GCPD can only positively link him to around two dozen murders.
4) Zsasz is incredibly manipulative.
5) Zsasz is incredibly dangerous- in his DEBUT ISSUE he is denied soap to wash his hands because he can kill with it. He can’t feed himself because the last time he had a fork he paralysed an orderly. He’s led around with hooked poles by armed guards. His therapy sessions are conducted when he’s safely locked in a metal tube, which is locked inside a cage, and Dr. Arkham is seated six feet away.
6) Zsasz is incredibly strong- again, as per Grant and Breyfogle, he does isometric exercises when locked up. He lifted a doctor and crushed her windpipe with one hand.
7) Zsasz’s tally marks are tally marks. I do not understand why this is so hard for artists who use him in their runs. His scars are not randomly slapped on; they’re methodical and orderly.
- I personally think he has the potential to be such a more interesting foil for Bruce Wayne/ Batman than the fucking Jonker. Both Victor and Bruce were psychologically damaged by the loss of their parents- Bruce when he was a child, Victor when he was an adult. I sometimes find myself wondering things like: Did the Waynes and the Zsasz know each other? Were Bruce and Victor friends? Does Bruce ever express empathy for what Zsasz is now? Where the fuck was Victor’s support network? Etc. There’s so much unexplored land out there but no let’s spend another 87 specials and movies and action figures and art shows and shirts and on the fucking Jonker.
- The honest to goodness canon information on Zsasz is so scant I made up... a Lot. Like the names of his parents, for one.
- Zsasz fucking hates the Penguin so much are you kidding me. Fucking Gotham show ... The Penguin is the reason Zsasz exists as the monster he is. Zsasz is saving a place for Penguin’s tally mark. Honestly I love the idea that Penguin is scared shitless at the prospect of ever meeting Zsasz* and will frequently put out hits on him.
* (I know, I know, in Arkham City, in Penguin’s museum, you can find the display in which Zsasz was placed. You think Pengu put him there himself? Fuck no, dude’s got goons. Jeesh.)
- When able, Zsasz stalks his victims to gauge whether or not they are “worthy” of receiving his “gift of salvation.” In the Arkham Asylum game, in his Patient Interview tapes, that is basically spelled out. He’s talking to his doctor and he starts asking about her life in that disarming, lilting cadence of his- “... As you take the three flights of stairs up to your apartment, as you unlock your four locks, as you realise you forgot to buy the cat food- again- as you curl up in your favourite red chair, cat on lap, you find yourself wishing something would happen... I can be that something, Sarah. I am your salvation.” CHILLING.... Doctor Sarah is understandably put on leave, which prompts Zsasz to slaughter his guards and escape. The final bit of the last tape is the replacement doctor realising Zsasz will go after Sarah and calling her in a panic. Sarah answers and you hear knocking. She says “oh, hang on, someone’s at the door” as the other doctor is yelling into the phone “SARAH! IT’S ZSASZ!”). Honestly those tapes and Danny Jacobs never got the accolades they deserve. As I said above, Jacobs’s work is the REASON I love this horrible character.
I could literally go on for ages but I’ve got dishes to wash so. Yeah.

It’s always interested me, that there are these two responses in fandom (not the only two, but these two are what interests me) where there’s one side who think people with critiques and criticisms should keep them to themselves so as to not ruin the fun. And then there’s this other side, who only want to critique and criticize based on superficial and usually bigoted aspects.
I see it w/ the new LotR show, and it’s fascinating. Some who are going hard on hating the show for casting people of color, and in particular black actors, but also those who are enraged by actors not having the right hair length or they aren’t pretty enough or what have you. And then you see people lumping those views with legitimate criticism of the writing and effects, or just a/mazon, because it’s all just ‘ruining the fun’.
It’s exhausting and pathetic.
Tumblr media
Whenever I see people attack an adaptation for making a change that's influenced by modern cultural trends, I want to ask them a simple question:
Have you ever read Moby Dick?
Published in 1851, Herman Melville's story of obsession, whaling, and the struggle between humanity and nature (including their own natures) is considered a classic of United States literature. It can be a challenging read, of course. I found it hard for me because interwoven throughout the narrative are chapters on cetology -- the study of whales. These includes discourses on ecology, commercial fishing, among various other topics. The last chapter has the protagonist of the novel discussing the representation of whales in art.
I wasn't a fan, but I kept an open mind. Upon investigation, there are different analyses of the purpose those cetology chapters serve. I came to think of it as a means by which Melville drew his readers into the work by providing them with the information that his fictional characters would already have. He needed to do this because, after all, there wasn't a Wikipedia back then and there were very, very few public libraries. Most people wanting to read his story wouldn't have access to an exhaustive knowledge of whales and whaling.
Regardless of the reason behind his choices, very little of those chapters have made it into any of the adaptations I have seen, and I don't remember anyone complaining about it. I propose that it is because it's been recognized that the original novel and the movies and the mini-series were intended for different audiences. What worked for the book buyer in 1851 wouldn't work for the television viewer in 2011. This seems like common sense.
I hope you see where I'm going with this. United States culture has evolved to the point where we understand, as an audience, that we've excluded non-white characters from narratives or placed them in very specific roles which often contradict the very themes of the story we're reading. As the audience has evolved, so must the adaptations, and while we don't want to change the emotional and narrative centers of the story, changing details to reflect that evolution seems, to me, very similar to leaving the cetology chapters out.
In Tolkien's descriptions of elves, how long was their hair? I'm pretty sure that Tolkien didn't bother to talk about it that much, because that wasn't really his point about them. Jackson, in his adaption, went for a certain aesthetic for his characters because he was telling a visual story and wanted to highlight the differences between the race of elves and others, something Tolkien did but not with hair length. So when this new series doesn't make everyone's hair the same length as Jackson's movie, does that mean they've betrayed the spirit of the original work? It's hard to see how -- elves and men and dwarves are still different creatures, but they represent this through different means.
It's the same process with characters of color. Tolkien lived among a very privileged culture which didn't spend much time thinking about race and representation. Would he really be upset that the heroic Arondir or Princess Disa were played by black people? I think he would be more interested in how these characters embodied his visions of elves and dwarves, which they do -- in my opinion -- very well. Would he be upset that the orcs following Adar no longer adhere to a dark color scheme or that the Southlanders are racially diverse? I don't think so. The orcs are still perversions of the elves, twisted by evil, and the essential changeability of men -- their curse and their blessing -- remains the same. The themes present in the Lord of the the Rings are still present: a rejection of totalitarianism, rampaging capitalism, and rootless modernism. I think he'd be pleased with these new stories set in his world and barely notice the aesthetic changes that drive others to distraction.
This modern resistance comes, I believe, from how people remember reading the Lord of the Rings or watching Jackson's movies and taking possession of them by integrating them into their experiences. It's "ruining their fun" as you put it because part of the fun is that the Lord of the Rings belongs to them. They should be able to enjoy it in the way they enjoyed it twenty years ago or forty years ago, like dragons perched on a hoard.
But the story doesn't belong to them. The new adaptation is not made in 2001 but in 2021. The audience has changed even since the beginning of the millennium, and change always encounters resistance. Storytellers are no longer content to exclude parts of the general population, and that's uncomfortable to some people. So, instead of understanding that Moby Dick adaptations don't need the cetology chapters anymore, they rage against the "woke" (a term so distorted that it's lost all meaning) like a greedy Sackville-Baggins upset that they won't get to keep Bag End or a Denethor afraid of the return of the king and what that means.

Have you played or seen Hogwarts Legacy? are you going to include it in your fic?
I haven't, nor do I intend to watch it, much less include it in the Kverse. I haven't spent a cent on anything HP-related since the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie, and I don't see that changing while JKR continues to spear-head the anti-trans movement.
Given all your HP-related asks, I take it you're a very big fan of the series. I sympathize - I used to be a huge fan as well, and I hold a lot of love and nostalgia for it still. Unfortunately, Rowling's anti-trans rhetoric in recent years has really dampened my enjoyment of the series - and much more importantly, it's provoked a lot of real harm to an already marginalized group of people. I can't, in good conscience, support that.
I'll tell it to you straight because I really appreciate your earnest support of my series and I don't want to lead you on: what little HP content remains in the Kverse is only there because I originally designed the series with it in mind as a central element, and I simply can't afford to go back and rewrite the whole thing to take it out. I definitely don't have the time, and I honestly don't have the mental bandwidth to start over - even if I only rewrite that portion, we're still talking about thousands and thousands of words that I need to spend moving things forward. So, the compromise here is that certain elements of the HP world continue to exist (the European schools and most of its magical creatures, with some changes to make them less problematic), they got the one focused one-shot I'd already written, "Refusal of the Call" (which was originally meant to be a multi-chapter fic and lead to the inclusion of a witch in Strange's team), and elements of that world can get mentioned and referred to when appropriate.
That's about it. Spoilers, I guess, but I don't plan to write any more HP-focused content as long as this awful situation continues (which I don't see changing anytime soon), and I've already rearranged a lot of things behind the scenes to replace what I did plan on using HP elements for. It sucks. Believe me, I know, but that's the best I could make out of a crappy situation. If this is disappointing, I understand, but I'm afraid that decision is final.
Up to you if, knowing that, you continue to support the series, but I hope you stick around. There's a whole lot more to the Kverse!

Retrospective Review: Jurassic World (2015)
This is a movie that I remember watching very clearly. In an absolutely full theater, I watched this in an IMAX screening on its opening Saturday. I was so excited to have a new Jurassic movie after 14 years, with Chris Pratt being hot off GOTG, where he was great, and a concept which was something I always wanted to see, which is a functioning park with Dinosaurs in it. I thoroughly enjoyed the film in its release and clearly a lot of people did too, given the massive success it had. I have watched it many times, and though people have started to put down the film in recent years, I think its the 2nd best of the series, just ahead of TLW. An opinion that reaffirmed rewatching the film last night.
This is a genuinely well made, well paced film, which gave me what I wanted. No, its not as good as the first Jurassic Park film and its certainly doesn't delve into the questions of the science in the type of ways the original did, but it is absolutely fun. The film has an excellent intro, with the birth of the Indominus Rex. It really pulls you into the idea that this creature is unnatural right from the very beginning. The film introduces the two JW kids, in Zach and Gray. Its smart how the film introduces the park through the eyes of the kids, and we certainly see some of the awe through Gray, and it also sets up that the world has gotten used to Dinosaurs, through the reaction of Zach. The film then introduces us to Claire and the grown I-Rex, and subsequently Owen and the pack of Raptors. The film does a neat job showing a functioning Dinosaur park. The parallels to Universal Studios and Sea World are very obvious. The park feels like it could exist. I got a good chuckle out of little touches, like the Jaws reference with the Mosasaurus, and the exhausted and disinterested park employee overseeing the line for the ride. It all rang very true.
I think the film does a good job introducing the I-Rex as a terrifying beast and they expand on the Velociraptor mythology by emphasizing on the intelligence. The bond between Owen and the Raptors, particularly Blue, is well depicted. The film spends the first half hour or so setting up the various characters and their dynamics and the central Dinosaurs, before the Indominus finally breaks out. The breakout sequence is fairly chilling. Trevorrow also does a fairly good job of not showing the Indominus in its full until a little later. There is a sense of mystery surrounding the creature. I also really like the design of the Indominus. It looks distinctive and feels actually like a mix of the T-Rex and a Velociraptor, which are the main Dinosaurs of the series. I think the I-Rex works really well as the villain for the movie because there is a genuine threat level throughout the movie with it rampaging through the Park. The film also has got a bright visual palette and so its a very inviting film in that way. The SFX are also much better so we are able to see the Dinosaurs in broad daylight. The film has a constant momentum to it after the I-Rex breakout. Also, I liked that they managed to talk about how the Dinosaurs in JW aren't exactly how they would have actually looked like. The gradual progression in paleontology since the first JP has led to many new discoveries about Dinosaurs and the film cleverly uses the genetic splicing idea as a way to fill the hole as to why the Dinosaurs as we have seen, don't hold up to what science says about them. I honestly felt it was quite realistic that the film leant into the gene splicing and species hybrids. It just felt like the next logical step in the evolution of the science. They also do a pretty good job showing the commercialization of the Dinosaurs and the Parks.
The action sequences are terrific. The Birdcage sequence, the Raptor attack sequence, all the I-rex attack sequences are excellent, but the climax is what makes me giddy as a school boy. Watching the I-Rex square off against the T-Rex, Velociraptor, and eventually the Mosasaurus is something I never knew I wanted. Its dumb, but glorious in the best way possible. I like to think that all these felt that that the I-Rex was something truly unnatural and didn't belong in the ecosystem. That really made the movie for me and I remember the audience in the theater absolutely loved it.
Now, the film definitely isn't perfect. The Raptor as weapons storyline has always struck me as something that is a bit too unrealistic and goofy even for this series. I just don't buy the idea that the military would want to use carnivorous creatures that can turn on you, as weapons. To the film's credit, Owen and Omar Sy's character seem to find the idea just as ridiculous as I did. The human villains in this movie are weak. The film doesn't really use Vincent D'Onofrio to his full potential. Its never really clear what level of authority he has in the Park and who he really works under. Its all handled in pretty vague terms. There are also some other characters, like Masrani, who feel like they are underused. There feels like there could have been more potential to the character but he's killed off rather abruptly. The two kids are also a little rough in the first 40 mins or so, but once they are forced into survival mode, they actually proved to be pretty good. There is also a somewhat oddly violent death of Katie McGrath's Zara. Its a scene that stands out as something almost a little meanspirited as to how drawn out that death scene was, almost to point of being comical.
The performances are solid. Pratt and Howard aren't exactly being stretched that much but they both have screen presence. Pratt uses his innate likability to good effect. He has a few fun touches in his role, like how he smirks while riding through the jungle with the Raptors, as even he is realizing how awesome this is. Howard's character is truly the protagonist of this film as she has the most clearly defined arc in this film, going from a detached businesslike park runner, to someone who embraces a maternal instinct towards her nephews and learns to appreciate the Dinosaurs as animals. Jake Johnson adds some fun humor to the proceedings as a control room employee. Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson are solid as Gray and Zach. Irrfan Khan makes the most out of his screentime as Masrani. He shares some good scenes with BD Wong, who returned to the franchise with this film. Vincent D'Onofrio also does the best with what he's got. Omar Sy, Katie McGrath, and Judy Greer round out the cast effectively.
All in all, I am a die hard defender of this movie. No, this is not a JP classic but its a lot of fun. Trevorrow nails the tone and the pacing of the film. It doesn't go on for too long. Michael Giacchino's music is also memorable. Overall, this movie is an 8.5/10 for me.

New Fiction 2022 - July
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "1 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
More begetting children and all their names before coming back around to more of David's reign. So many chapters are just appendices to previous events.
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "2 Paralipomenon" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
Two Paralipomenon, say that five times fast. So now it's on to Solomon and his riches (again), Roboam talking about how his little finger is bigger than his dad's dick, and Jeroboam getting whipped with scorpions all the way to the fall of Jerusalem. It's basically another look at what we saw in Kings.
Dracula Daily - "July" by Bram Stoker & ed. Matt Kirkland (1897, 2021)
Dracula’s finally outta that musty old castle, though leaving Jonathan in the lurch is quite the cliffhanger. And that poor, poor captain.
Bad Hare Day by R.L. Stine (1996)
A mish-mash of various ideas from earlier books. It has the vibe of Haunted Mask and stealing secrets from weird adults, the experimenting with illicit stuff from Monster Blood, animal transformations from various books, bratty younger sister who bullies the protagonist, a Slappy-like snarky villainous character. It’s too much of a remix and more slapstick than horror.
Egg Monsters from Mars by R.L. Stine (1996)
A decent creature story, but the latter half kind of sags with the protagonist spending a lot of time just trapped in a freezer and struggling to stay warm. The villain is genuinely frightening but also one-dimensional and doesn't really explain his motivation well. And there's not enough of the egg monsters. It's close to a top tier book but just sputters too much along the way.
"Bathtub Mermaid" by Edith Zimmerman (2022)
Someone has to hear about the doll thief.
"its time for… the dark cabinet" by itstimeforcomics-blog (2015)
When you least suspect it.
Lost Highway dir. David Lynch (1997)
One can see the continuation of a theme in Lynch’s work since Blue Velvet. Does he want us see the darkness or the light?
Mad God dir. Phil Tippett (2022)
If the journey ends for you, it doesn’t mean it’s the end.
Mr. Malcolm's List dir. Emma Holly Jones (2022)
British accents always class up the cruelty.
Thor: Love and Thunder dir. Taika Waititi (2022)
Whoof, what a drop from Ragnarok.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers dir. Akiva Schaffer (2022)
A reflection of a reflection that is unaware of what it sees.
Where the Crawdads Sing dir. Olivia Newman (2022)
Pump up the volume on the mystery, tone down the romance.
Nope dir. Jordan Peele (2022)
The most fun take on Jaws since the original. A real hoot and also really fucked up at times. An understanding of horror by someone who continues to bring cool ideas to movies.
Vengeance dir. B. J. Novak (2022)
You get awful close but you shouldn’t have been the face of it. Now we ask, what did we learn?
Fear Street Part One: 1994 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Really going for it right out of the gate. I’m in. Now I need to know if I should go back and read Fear Street after reading this bunch of Goosebumps books.
Fear Street Part Two: 1978 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Even the devil craves a kind word.
Fear Street Part Three: 1666 dir. Leigh Janiak (2021)
Legacy is mankind’s ruin.
Goosebumps - "Bad Hare Day" (1996)
Erf, the book was rough, and the episode doesn’t do itself any favors by leaning into the snarky villain.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (1988-1990)
A nostalgia bomb like every one of these 90s cartoons tends to be, though the tropes eventually wear thin when watching it all in one go. Monterey Jack may be what crystallized my appreciation of cheese.
Better Call Saul - Season 5 (2020)
This show... it doesn’t build the way Breaking Bad builds. It’s more of a roller coaster with the sense of hitting the same drop a few too many times. This season is a bookmark in place while you wait for the extra season that should have been season five.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021-2022)
I feel bad for the actors and crew of this ostensibly standalone TV show. Your makers should have had the fortitude to stick the vision.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Better, but only because it is exactly what I remember. It’s comfortable, like an old pair of socks.

I've been joining the SpongeBob fandom for quite some time recently and I figured why not do some character designs to what the Roman and Greek Gods would look like in The SpongeBob Universe since Neptune and Poseidon are already designed. But even though we only get brief mentions of the Other Gods in the Show and One of its Movies, we'll only see Neptune and Poseidon along with Amphitrite and Triton because they are Water Gods after all since the Franchise is set entirely underwater (which makes sense). But the Whole Greco-Roman Mythology is very dark since a lot of shit happens in Mythology. There's a lot of Drama, Romance, Adultery, Incest, and even Violence in these kinds of stories that a lot of people changed over the years but in truth, SpongeBob is not that all faithful to the Myths, even when it would be too dark to have these canon backstories of Neptune and Poseidon from the Original Myths in a Kids Show, they've always changed their versions of one of the Gods just like anyone else does. For instance; Neptune was abandoned as a Baby by his Biological Family of Royal Mermaids until Aliens come in and gave him Powers when he was a Baby as He Grew Up (In the Myths, Neptune was eaten alive by his Father, Saturn (Cronus' Roman Counterpart) along with his other siblings until when Jupiter came in, saved him, and their siblings), Poseidon has No Powers and Only cares for his Looks (When in the Myths, He's the Most Powerful Greek God ever much like towards his Brothers and he doesn't really care at all for his looks). And of course, let's not forget how they changed one of their spouses from one to another in the show, Amphitrite. In the Franchise, She is Neptune's Wife and even the Mother of their Children, Triton and Mindy, but in the Myths, Amphitrite is actually Greek and is married to Poseidon (she does have a son named "Triton" but Triton's Real Father is actually Poseidon and there are more children of Poseidon/Neptune in the Myths besides than Triton). However, Amphitrite's Roman Counterpart is "Salacia". Here is my version of Salacia (Neptune's Real Roman Wife) if she would appeared in The Universe. Only this time, since Neptune already has Amphitrite, Poseidon would have Salacia (Kind of a Spouse Swap, I know). My Version on a SpongeBob Depiction of Salacia would be part for my Re-Written take on Sponge on The Run (because let's face it, Hillenburg didn't want to have Spin-offs and even the flashbacks in the Third Movie are lies with laziness just to retconned the past on how the Characters met instead of using the actual reasons from the oldest episodes on how they did met in the first place). Salacia is one of the 15 Daughters of Nereus and Doris, She is a Naïve, Compassionate, Free-Spirited, Independent, and is mostly a Sassy Mermaid who is around 27 years old (27,000+ in Goddess Years). Most of her Sisters were chosen to have Boyfriends to have Future Husbands by their own choice while Salacia reminded single for the rest of her life, she would often spend much more time talking with Marine Animals that she makes friends with and even journey through the surface world. One day, while she was sitting on a rock on the surface while making a Crown, she met SpongeBob and Patrick with Mindy upon the Ocean after they were somehow chased by a group of Piranhas. Salacia looked curious to see what was all the fun about when Mindy and her Sea Creature Friends bumped into her Sisters. SpongeBob and Patrick introduced themselves to her when Mindy said that there were only for looking for help, until when her Eldest and Youngest Sisters tease them out of embarrassment so Salacia had to go with Mindy and her new friends as she decided to join their adventure to get King Neptune (Mindy's Father) in order to convince him to stop Poseidon from taking over the Bikini Bottom as his New Kingdom of Atlantis. During her Journey with her New Friends, they are unaware that they are being watched by Poseidon through his Crystal Ball just to see on where the Heroes are up to. However, when Poseidon takes a look at Salacia for the first time, he instantly falls in love with her because of her Beauty, He thinks he shall make a Perfect Queen to his Kingdom where they could rule together as a replacement for his Old Once Love for Amphitrite (Neptune's Wife). Salacia does get to know more often about Mindy and her Friends as SpongeBob tells her the stories along the way on how he met his friends, working at the Krusty Krab, Boating School and all the other kinds of fun stuff that he did in the Bikini Bottom for Years while Mindy told her that she was the Daughter of the Famous Roman God, King Neptune. Salacia was a bit interested in the City where SpongeBob and his Friends lived as she wondered what the Bikini Bottom would be like. Unfortunately, a lot of bad things happened through their way through their Trip to convince King Neptune. For example; they run through some mysterious ghost pirates (not the same ones as the Flying Dutchman's) on an abandoned ship that sunk in a storm a thousand years ago, a pack of a bunch of Royal but Dangerous Sea Slugs ruled by a Sea Slug King, and even lastly, they ran over to the Kraken. After so many running through so many scary sea creatures among the deep, they instantly finally found Neptune's Kingdom. They sneakily head it without being noticed to try to find Neptune so he could help them stop Poseidon but when they are accidentally caught by him Neptune threatens when he asks the Gang on what do they want as SpongeBob tries to explain but the Roman God instantly noticed his Daughter who was out of Princess School who had joined the Gang. Mindy tries to explain to her own Father that they need their own help to stop his Greek Counterpart from taking over the Bikini Bottom, but Neptune doesn't really believe in his Daughter's words since he believes that it is some sort of trick as he kicked Mindy's friends out. When Neptune sent his Daughter to return to her own Rightful Summer School through a Carriage, he was very disappointed that she joined her sea creature friends without telling him, thus, splitting the Friends apart. While SpongeBob and Patrick somehow failed as they headed home alone, Salacia felt stressed out from that journey for all of what's left was to go back home. But when Poseidon came in with his carriage which surprises Salacia. For the first time that the Two finally met in person, he asked Salacia to join him and even be his Queen but Salacia wasn't too sure since he took over the Bikini Bottom. Curious at first, she thought that maybe perhaps they could continued to stop Poseidon and even see her friends again as she decides to go with Poseidon as the Greek God took her to his New Palace in the Bikini Bottom which is now ruled there by him. But when Patrick and SpongeBob see that Poseidon now has Salacia, they run fast ahead to now continue on their journey and even head to the Bikini Bottom as they called Mindy for help. During her stay in the Bikini Bottom, Poseidon showed her around the new palace that she will now live in, Salacia was impressed and amazed by the place but deep down, she missed her new friends since they were very close to her that no one other friend was to her in her life. While SpongeBob and Patrick headed back to save the Bikini Bottom, Poseidon and Salacia do quite to get to know each other some quite time as Salacia develops a crush on him. Unaware that Salacia is also now secretly in love with him, Poseidon decides to put up a wedding so Salacia could become his Queen of their New Kingdom. When SpongeBob and Patrick finally made it back to the Bikini Bottom, they free out the rest of the Bikini Bottomites especially their Friends who are locked in cages. Poseidon forms up a Date in the Lounge that he orders his Servants to help out just so that he could propose to her where he could wed her and finally make her Queen. Unaware that the Heroic Duo are now back, Salacia joins in the Date that Poseidon set for them as the servants appreciated their new upcoming Queen. After watching acts on the Stage, it was now the perfect time for the Greek Sea King to propose to Salacia with a Wedding Ring that he grabbed out but that gets instantly ruined when SpongeBob and his Friends stop King Poseidon and even save their New Mermaid Friend. Surprised to see that the Heroes have now come back, Salacia was happy to see her new friends again as SpongeBob got her back as Poseidon immediately pulls out his Triton and even attacks SpongeBob and their Friends as he chases them through the entire kingdom leaving Salacia behind as she tried to stop her future husband but Poseidon was out of rage outside of the Palace. Salacia was horrified for she didn't know what to do to stop him, Poseidon was too powerful, but when King Neptune came in with his Daughter (Mindy), he asked her on where he is as she pointed to the direction to where he is as Neptune stopped Poseidon from attacking SpongeBob and even the Whole Bikini Bottom. The Real Rightful Ruler look disappointed in Poseidon, for Neptune himself couldn't believe what his own equivalent was trying to do as Salacia already explained the whole thing of what truly happened as Poseidon stops fighting SpongeBob for a moment, thus, ending the battle. When SpongeBob explains that the Bikini Bottom is their only home to live and that they need their home in order to survive and live since it's not meant to be a place for Rulers to rule there. Neptune felt disappointed in his Greek Counterpart as Poseidon apologizes since he was only a bit jealous of Neptune gaining more popularity by the Fish Folks under the sea as Neptune forgives his apology as he is sorry for overshadowing him but Poseidon felt so lonely since he never had any love nor friends in his entire life as he cried. SpongeBob and Salacia stepped forward comforting the Greek God himself as they've decided to become Poseidon's new friends as He and the Bikini Bottomines including the Roman God and Mindy forgive Him. Salacia does accept his apology as he tells him that she was once unloved too and that no man ever came into her life before Poseidon chose her. With a cheer up of a kiss, Poseidon feels a lot better as he proposes to Salacia, to in which, she accepts his proposal as The Two Wed in the Bikini Bottom. Salacia thanks SpongeBob for the Adventure that she gave as Salacia now stays with Poseidon as her new husband as the two leave the City as they now go back to his Old Palace where it was now redesigned as Poseidon and Salacia become the Second Royal Couple under the Sea while the Bikini Bottom was now fully restored as Merfolk would now a days pay a visit to the Bikini Bottom along with The Main Royal Mermaid Kings including Mindy and Salacia, who often visit their friends. I basically figured why not give Poseidon a love interest since after all, he's such a huge underrated character that doesn't get a lot of attention in the SpongeBob Fandom (come to think of it, I don't think neither He or Neptune (both Movie and Show) get a lot of fanart from Fans). But even though they rarely appeared, I wish we could see more of them since after all, I'm a huge Greco-Roman Mythology expert and Poseidon is one of my most favorite gods. However, for my Re-Written Sponge on the Run and even it's whole timeline now in the modern universe, Poseidon's Disguise Hot form in my AU is his Real Form (Since Gods obviously can't age at all) and I figure why not add more on the Greco-Roman Mythology lore more in My AU of SpongeBob. So basically, in my AU of the Re-written Modern SpongeBob (including its Spinoffs), The Greek and Roman Gods are actually separated characters, although I could make Poseidon canon in my own SpongeBob AU, I might as well fix it's new timeline just to stay true to the original canon timeline as well as fixing the spinoffs.
