Does anyone else hesitate to reblog because of the usual childhood traumas, or is that just me?
After decades of conditioning to not engage unless I was 105% sure someone wanted me to interact (or be mocked, called "annoying," etc.), I'm so used to quietly leaving likes and moving on that the idea of reblogging is still a little terrifying.
Like, this shit still happens on Facebook. With people I know. Let alone strangers.
So it's really, really okay to just reblog? I know the logical answer, but the conditioning is SCREAMING.

A tribe leaders Zaabua attire. Zaabua don’t see the need for clothing like us humans do, being covered in fur is more than enough to keep them warm and cozy.
The only time they decide to willingly wear something is either for aid such as going through snow storms or to show status as shown here. Tribe leaders more than often wear attire that represents their tribe, each having individual looks depending on what kind of animal pelt they use. But then again even some tribe leaders do not need to feel the need to stand out from the rest.

Log 2, Trees. I have encountered my first predatory creature which, fortunately, only stands at about 5ft. Like the shroom heads the creature also poses three eyes, although the third eye on this creature can see in full color. The hunting methods of this creature consist of it hanging in the trees ready to snatch up any unsuspecting prey that walks beneath it. I will name these creature tree snatchers. Speaking about trees, the ones on Murkosia take on a strange form. The bark grows in almost thick petals that have a sort of plastic feel. The leaves are very interesting, they grow in long tubes that photosynthesize at an astounding rate, and since this planet doesn’t have any form of grass theses leaves trap in a lot of heat, making them hot to the touch … which I found out the hard way. One last thing of note, the plant that the shroom heads ate looks nothing like any other plant I’ve seen so far. Perhaps I just need to get a higher view.

Science Tumblr or anyone who cares:
I made an eco-jar/biosphere one day from a local pond. Yes, I'm aware there is red algae, my last one did this and eventually settled with some adjustment and less sunlight and I cleaned it up and now I've just got some green algae going on and little sea-monkey shrimp, maybe detritus worms. I didn't have much for plants in that one though (although i have some tiny floating duckweed pads forming!), and clearly, these plants are not surviving. I do wonder what it says about the state of the ponds i collected from, or if its just a matter of my own errors. Not what I'm here to talk about!
I have a friend in this jar. I had found an earthworm in there the day i made it and thought he wouldnt enjoy living underwater forever, so I freed him in the yard. This particular friend didn't show themselves until a couple weeks later, and I've been watching them for over a week. I don't know what type of worm/nematode they are and I'm mainly fascinated but also slightly creeped out, haha. like I have an alien trapped in a jar.
Friend will come out every morning and do this little dance for a while. They swim around and hide under debris again. Then come out and dance some more. Sometimes they'll surface and stick their head out of the water! They suction onto the glass with their... butt, or sometimes hold onto the plant stalks (when they were fresh and sturdy) but I also saw them crawl INSIDE the stalk and def eat it. I believe they were eating the algae off the glass in the beginning, but it could have just been getting its bearings. I think they eat the tiny white swimmy things that I will simply call sea monkeys bc I don't have a microscope. So... omnivorous? opportunist?
My worm friend swims like a mermaid, undulating up and down with a flattened body, not side to side like an eel.
here they are right this second suctioned to the glass, sorry it's a 2 second gif:
Tumblr media
please have a morning dance session:
Tumblr media
So, um, yeah.
I want to clean this up! level it out more (too much sand/rocks) and maaaybe put a small snail or two (to help with algae and bc fish would be very sad in these) in here eventually and get a couple plants that would be happy.
But is this worm be parasitic and came from like, idk, goose poop? will it eat snails if I put them in there? will it climb out one night and eat me like in alien horror movies? is it actually helpful and eating the bad bacteria and i got extra lucky? if anyone has any guesses as to what it is - lemme know. friendly advice on biosphere/eco-jars also welcome, it was my friends idea from a tik tok and I was like "okay, science experiment" and I got way more into it than she did bc she kinda gave up once hers got the algae bloom. I refuse!
okay so I think just got a video of heem eating? slowed down to 1/2 time. turn your volume down bc the fan was going so it's just droning in the background. this has all been happening while trying to write this!
what a weirdo.
bless myles for tolerating my shit, honestly.

the lgb alliance is based out of far right headquarters 55 tufton street you dumbass gullible bitch
LGB Alliance was started by lesbians who left Stonewall UK to form an advocacy group for same-sex attracted people.
And this is just a climate blog run by a lesbian bitch.
Ultimately, I don't care who agrees with me and who disagrees with me. If conservatives decide to support gay rights, okay. If conservatives decide to put solar panels on their roofs, okay. If our neoliberal ruling class continues to promote homophobia, anti-government conservatives might swing around to gay rights. If our neoliberal ruling class continues subsidizing the fossil fuel industry, anti-government conservatives might swing around to climate campaigns. If they want to do that, I'm not going to stop them.
Earth is not made up of good guys who agree with you and bad guys who disagree with you. Earth is not a YA novel or a video game. It's a planet with a complex biosphere that's been overrun by humans, our cattle, and our fossil fuel emissions.
I recommend spending more time meditating on the biosphere and less time freaked out about lesbians on tumblr.

It Came From The Wastebasket
Taxonomy – the naming, description, and classification of living things – is one of the foundations of biology and ecology. We need to know what things are in order to properly understand them and their evolutionary relationships, and without that we can't build up an accurate picture of the true diversity of life on Earth.
Taxonomy of living species is also vital for conservation efforts, recognizing unique species that would otherwise go unnoticed. Accidentally using the same name for multiple things can easily mask the decline and potential extinction of critically endangered populations – for example, if we'd just assumed all Galápagos giant tortoises were exactly the same we'd never have realized that Lonesome George was the last known individual of the Pinta Island subspecies, or made efforts to find living hybrid descendants of his kind.
Meanwhile the paleontological taxonomy of fossils helps us to understand where things came from, and to identify long-term trends of evolution, diversity, and extinction over time. The history of life shows us how different types of organisms coped with changing conditions in the past, so we can try to predict how current climate change will affect the biosphere in the present and future.
But sometimes species don't neatly fit into our classification system. Maybe they're rather "generic" or "primitive" examples of that type of organism and don't really have many unique or specialized features, or maybe the scientists describing them just weren't able to classify them more specifically at the time, but either way they often end up with the same fate: dumped into a wastebasket taxon.
Tumblr media
Wastebaskets aren't natural lineages, just a default label for things that don't seem to fit anywhere else, and they're basically somebody else's problem to sort out later. Sometimes they can even end up containing things that superficially look very similar to each other but later turn out to not even be closely related at all.
This can be especially bad in paleontology, where there's often only poorly-preserved and fragmentary fossils to work with and usually no way to verify evolutionary relationships with modern genetic analysis. This can result in wastebaskets getting especially bad if left unchecked – like how for a while in the 19th and 20th centuries many fragmentary theropod dinosaurs were just dumped into Megalosaurus, resulting in over 50 dubious species that eventually needed to be carefully reevaluated, renamed, and reclassified.
Every weekday this October we'll be looking at a different example of these sort of taxonomic tangles – so I'll see you all on Monday with one the worst historical wastebaskets…

ALL YOUR BREATH ARE BELONG TO US.
This whole thing is based on the All Your Base Are Belong To Us meme. The warning at the beginning is because a.) the music is a subgenre of hardcore techno known as gabber and kind of loud, in case you are unfamiliar with this kind of EDM and/or the song in the original video, and, b.) concerns such as photosensitive epilepsy (at one point, 16 images appear in just under four seconds).
More background beneath cut.
(Writeup also posted on dreamwidth and post about video also shared on zeroes; video on Vimeo and on YouTube as well.)
A rundown on the content of the vid:
The images of the wolf are from the seventh episode of the fourth episode of The Simpsons, Marge Gets a Job; it is a wolf startled by LOUD NOISES. Then it's Cats from Zero Wing (the video game central to the All Your Base Are Belong To Us meme) with a SARS-CoV-2 virion for a face. And the poster for the 2017 film The Shape of Water (see also on zeroes). Then it's the webcomic Dinosaur Comics! (Thanks, Ryan!) Next a reference to the slipcase for White Town (Jyoti Mishra)'s Your Woman. (Just added a mask to the picture of the cat with the thumbs up; I am afraid I am unaware of the origin of the original cat meme...) Then it's the first page of All's Well, that Ends Well from the First Folio of Shakespeare's plays, published in 1623. And then the scene from the 2022 film Glass Onion when Lionel Toussaint holds up a faxed message from Miles Bron: "Uber for Biospheres". Next, a reference blog/webcomic Hyperbole and a Half and a panel for one comic where the author portrays an initial manic enthusiasm when cleaning up: "CLEAN ALL THE THINGS".
The original Doge photo. (See also: DOGE on tumblr, DOGE on zeroes.)
And The Quest of the Virosols!!! I really appreciate these graphics. (Please note, I am not affiliated with the Aerosol Science Research Center, I am publicly disseminating useful information for educational purposes; All Your Breath Are Belong To Us is a PSA <3)
The record is based on Otis Rush's "All Your Love" and "COVID" was "Cobra" (see also: some images used to construct).
The Sudden Clarity Clarence meme!
An animation of a diaphragm exhaling and inhaling (with the little purple virosols added!)
And then False Knees Comic 296! (Thanks, Joshua!) (I am once again reminding you that I am not affiliated with the Aerosol Science Research Center.)
And the next six images are the only memes I've not made in this vid (and the person who added the masks to pictures of these images has approved the use of them in this video; thank you!)
Fruit by Alphonse Mucha (Source.)
Le Désespéré by Gustave Courbet (Source.)
Autoportrait by Tamara de Lempicka (Source.)
Trop tôt by James Tissot (Source.)
Autorretrato con Collar de Espinas by Frida Kahlo (Source.)
A photo of the models for Grant Wood's American Gothic standing beside the painting itself. (Source.)
Then the poster for the 1994 film The Mask. (See also on zeroes.) Next a scene from Datalore, the thirteenth episode of the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
And a reference to a version of the album cover for Vangelis' 1985 album Mask. (See also: Vangelis' Mask (1985) is not to be confused with Vangelis' mask (Ninjago), which is a face cover worn by King Vangelis of the Kingdom of Shintaro (for like, a moment [while trying to find info about the album cover], I thought the Greek composer and arranger of electronic, progressive, ambient, and classical orchestral music had an alter ego known as the Skull Sorcerer, but apparently not). [mirror on zeroes])
Aaaaand the Original Goncharov shoe!!! (See also.) Then the 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind [風の谷のナウシカ "kaze no tani no naushika"]; the character Nausicaä wears this mask in the original film. Next, an image of a number of risks, originally published by the CDC.
Steamed Hams. (See also: ...and you call for "cleaned hands" despite the fact COVID is obviously airborne... [mirror on zeroes])
(I am once again reminding you that I am not affiliated with the Aerosol Science Research Center.)
GEORDI LA FORGE! (See also: Hand washing as but one component of a "Swiss cheese model" composed of preventative measures including personal actions [such as wearing a well-fitting mask, physical distancing, avoiding crowds, and "staying home when sick"], as well as public measures [such as standards for ventilation and air filtration of indoor spaces, effective messaging on disease prevention, and reliable support for those needing to "stay home sick"], mitigations which, when used in combination, significantly reduce the spread of airborne disease.)
WEDNESDAY FROG MEME! (See also: It is Airborne, my dudes. [mirror on zeroes])
S'CHN T'GAI SPOCK! (See also: logic clearly dictates that SARS-CoV-2 spreads via infected breath [and can remain suspended in the air, travelling inside tiny specs of moisture, floating like smoke or mist]; therefore, COVID is airborne; mask up, live long, and prosper [mirror on zeroes])
The woman yelling at a cat meme.
The Is This a Pigeon? meme. (See also: "Droplets" are basically spittle, falling to the ground not far from the source [the infected person's mouth]. "Aerosols" are pretty much breath, tiny particles of infectious virus-containing-moisture that can remain suspended in the air [able to float distances greater than a metre]. [mirror on zeroes])
Darmok and Jalad at 2 metres! (See also: 2 metres physical distance helps you to avoid droplets [infected spittle] but "COVID is airborne" and floats like cigarette smoke, so even 2 metres still means a risk of airborne transmission [from infected breath]. Like Tanagra, 2 metres from a potential source of infection is still a place of potential danger. [mirror on zeroes])
Napoleon Dynamite (the shirt with "COVID IS AIRBORNE" originally says "VOTE FOR PEDRO"). (See also: I spent last summer making Corsi-Rosenthal Box filters, like, fifty of 'em! The SARS-CoV-2 floating in the air kept trying to attack my cousins, what the heck would you do in a situation like that? [mirror on zeroes])
Pokemon! (See also: if COVID aerosols/breath builds up somewhere indoors that isn't well ventilated, and the air is not filtered well enough, you may get sick even after an infected person has left the room. [mirror on zeroes])
AVATAR. (And yes, the font used for "AIRBORNE" is Papyrus.) (I am once again asking you to remember that I am not affiliated with the Aerosol Science Research Center.)
GONCHAROV!!! GONCHAROV!!! (Thanks Beelz!) (See also: Written by Mattwo JWHJ 0715. [mirror on zeroes])
The Always has been meme. (See also: Aerosols/breath (tiny bits of infected moisture) can remain suspended in the air and are able to float distances greater than a metre. [mirror on zeroes])
(I am once again asking you to remember that I am not affiliated with the Aerosol Science Research Center.) Aside from the images which just are what the are (e.g. the CDC infographic, the ASRC graphics), and the six images related to paintings, all memes were put together by yours truly. <3 The song was, originally, "Invasion of the Gabber Robots" by the Laziest Men on Mars, which sampled music created by Tatsuya Uemura and Noriyuki Iwadare.
Re-writing of lyrics, and the audio and video editing, were also my doing; REAPER for the audio editing, GNU Image Manipulation Program for the meme making, Shotcut for the video editing.
