What benders would the batfam be??
So, here we go with another one of my au thingies for my own au thingie. This time its Atla Themed! (Avatar: The last Airbender for those who don't know)
So when picking a time period of when this would happen, I thought about this quite a bit, I think it would be a couple of avatar cycles after Korra. Technology has progressed to the point where Bruce still does his dark Knight routine.
Okay, here we goooooo!
Alfred: He was a special operative in the Fire Nations army. He is a Fire Bender, and also knows chi blocking. After he retired from the army he was employed by the late Waynes as a butler and bodyguard where they lived in Republic City.
Bruce: Bruce is actually a Non-bender, although this does not mean he is less of a fighter against any bender. He's traveled all over the world and nations learning different styles of fighting. After returning back to his home in Republic City he started going out at knight as a masked vigilante based off of a bat spirit. He uses all the fighting techniques he learned while traveling as well as chi blocking, and technology.
Barbara: She's like Asami in the way that she is very tech savvy. Although she is an Earth Bender, who can use the subskill of Metal Bending. She moved to republic city with her father when he got a job on the police force there. They moved from a village on the edge of the Earth Kingdom, close to the Northern Water Tribe.
Dick: He is an Air Bender and is actually the person who taught Duck the subskill of Flight. His parents were Non-Bending Air Nomads and found their place in Haly's Traveling Circus. The circus was attacked while in Republic City, and not long after Dick was taken under Bruces wing and later adopted. He never got his arrow tattoos.
Jason: Before he died, he was sure that he was a Non-Bender, so he was trained in chi blocking. He was killed and was brought back by the healing waters of Lazarus, brought back as an Earth Bender with use of the subskill Lava Bending. His biological mother was and Earth Bender like him, and his father is from Fire Bender descent. There's the reason he can Lava Bend.
Cass: She is a Water Bender and uses a technique to use water to muffle her footsteps. She was trained in the subskill of Blood Bending while with the League. After joining Bruce, she was taught how to incorporate chi blocking into her fighting style instead of killing people. Her mother, Lady Shiva, is an Air Bender, and this allows her to bend the clouds (yes, they are made of water but also made of air. Only really talented benders or those that have Air Bending ancestry are able to do so. I'll explain more later if ya'll want.) and use them to shroud her presence.
Steph: She is a Non-Bender, this was something her father Cluemaster was not happy about. She took to the streets to fight him and learned chi blocking on her own, and later learned under Barbara and Bruce.
Duke: The Avatar of this time, born in the Earth kingdom. He is able to bend all four elements and also utilizes the subskills of flight and Spiritual projection from Airbending.
Tim: He is a Fire Bender, one of the few things he gets from his father. Along with his intelligence he also uses the subskill Lightning Bending, which he uses through his bo staff when fighting with it. he also learned chi blocking. As a result of his mothers Water Bending heritage he is able to make cold flames that people can walk through.
Trace: They are a Water Bender, from their mother's side of their family. Janet Drake wasn't a Water Bender like Jack Drake was a Fire Bender though. She discovered her ability for the subskill of healing after a nasty fight with a Non-Bender called the Joker landed some really bad hits on the people involved. They are able to heat their water to unbearable degrees because of their fathers Fire Bending. They are also trained in chi blocking
Damian: He is a Fire Bender, from his mother as Bruce is a Non-Bender. While raised in the League he was taught chi blocking as well as Lightning Bending. He was forced to try and learn the subskills of Lava Bending and Metal Bending. He was unable to Lava Bend but showed an ability for Metal Bending. He hasn't been able to hone his Metal Bending as of late, and is reluctantly learning more about Lightning Bending from Tim.

Some AU idea: Noatak after running away from home instead of becoming the hypocritical revolutionary, becomes a vigilante who works alone. Normally he lives in Earth Kingdom pretending to be a non-bender who works in a restaurant or a pub, but as Amon he uses waterbending and bloodbending to fight criminals. He even takes away their bending in extreme situations. Many people fear him (due to bloodbending and his outfit that is the same as in the show) while others see him as a hero. The amount of his supporters becomes quite big.
After some time he moves to Republic City after hearing about the young Avatar being there. When they meet, despite Korra being suspicious of Amon's intentions at first, they start to work together in secret. Korra even developes a crush on him and he reveals his identity to her. Of course, after he takes away bending from big amount of triad members, Korra becomes angry, and the members of the council deem him as a dangerous criminal and Tarrlok wants Korra to eliminate Amon. Of course, she's against it, but she pretends to agree to protect Amon.
And yes, Korra and Noatak go on secret dates 💙💙💙
And imagine Mako dating Asami, while being in love with Korra, who dates Noatak, but she can't admit to having a boyfriend who's in his 40s and who has a secret alter ego lmao
Tumblr media
First of all, thank you so much for this food! Love when people share their enthusiasm about this little ship💖
Second, thank you for your patience! I was busy in the last days but now I AM FREE TO DRAW AGAIN YESSSSSSSS
Third, Actually I have seen one or two au’s like that, but there’s specially one really cool design and concept of gdcee of vigilante Amon! Let me know if you want to see it!
And fourth, (finally) YES TO ALL OF THIS LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The Guardian of Republic City: Mako x Female Reader - Part Three
Tumblr media
Part One and Part Two and Part Four.
Asami knew everything so of course when you saw her the next day she knew you and Mako had gone out for a meal. You saw her once a week for a partner meeting but really it was just a chance to chat and keep in touch. You could tell from her smile when she saw you that some teasing was incoming. "So" she smiled "how has your week been?". "Can't complain" you smiled back "how about you?". "Yeah good too...how was your dinner with Mako?". You shot her a look and she laughed "come on I'm dying to know, did it go well?". You nodded "yeah it was nice. We have a lot in common". Asami nodded "your personalities are so similar! I knew you'd get along". You nodded "yeah I think we'll be good friends". Asami paused "Mako mentioned you said the f word". You smiled "oh come on, it's not a bad word". "No it's not" she agreed but can I ask why you don't want to be anything more? He's pretty easy on the eye".  You nodded "yes he is". "And he's sweet and kind". You nodded "yes...". "And he's got a good job and a nice family". You laughed "Asami! Mako is all of those things and more I agree". She paused "so why don't you want to date him?". "I'm just too busy to think about romance" you argued "I've got a new school to run and all my workers to think about...plus this rise in crime" you added discreetly "it wouldn't be fair to Mako to start something when I can't give it my all". Asami shrugged "that's fair but something I've learnt being a business owner at a young age...you're never going to get the perfect time so sometimes you just have to decide the time is now and go for it". You nodded "thanks I'll bare that in mind" which was the signal to Asami you were done talking about this and she promptly changed the topic.
Mako's POV Mako was sat in his office staring at the map of Republic City where all the crimes were mapped out. He was hoping to get some major insight by staring at the locations but all he’d got so far was the obvious. They overwhelmingly favoured the richer districts and Mako worried Asami or you could be next. He'd assessed both your security systems and they seemed adequate but still he worried. So far there had been no real casualties but all it took was one of the criminals to be a little too rough and you could get hurt. He knew Asami could handle herself but to his knowledge you didn't have any fighting experience and that worried Mako. He sighed as he found himself thinking about you more and more. He'd really enjoyed your dinner together but you didn't seem to want to progress to anything more. When he told Asami she said you probably didn't mean anything by it and simply weren't rushing into it but he felt like there was more to it than that...but he couldn't understand what. So he was content just being your friend, plus in the meantime he had actual problems like working out who in the world this vigilante was. He was going to carry on working when he saw the time and rushed off. He had somewhere he had to be and Asami would never forgive him if he was late.
Your POV
You found yourself somewhere you typically tried to avoid...a party. Not even the fundraiser kind for some new school or hospital. No this was a typical party with dancing and alcohol. Two things you didn't have much experience with. You'd made an exception though because tonight was Asami's birthday and she was a trusted friend and a huge reason why you were in the city. You'd been here 15 minutes when you spotted another figure standing as tensely as you. Mako. He was watching the group gathered with a mixture of apprehension and disdain. Then he saw you watching him and his expression cleared. He waved awkwardly and you smiled making your way over to him. You hadn’t seen him much since your dinner together and hoped things wouldn’t be awkward between you.  "I'm relieved to see you here" you said and Mako smiled "why? You know all these people. Aren’t they Asami's business associates?". You shook your head "not most of them...I figured they were her social friends but from your reaction I'm guessing not?". Mako shrugged "I have no idea, clearly Asami has way more friends than me". You chuckled "and me". Mako smiled "having tons of friends is over-rated. All those birthdays you have to remember and the Christmas cards". You chuckled "and the unannounced guests!". Mako nodded "exactly! You can't have anyone turn up announced if you don't have many friends". You smiled "flawless logic" and Mako nodded with a hint of a smirk on his face. You loved when he showed his playful side and acted his age. He was the same age as you and he was the only person you'd met who acted older than you. It was nice not to feel alone but this was a party. If you could act foolish for one night surely it was here.
Mako saw the idea come to you and paused "what are you planning?". "I’m not planning anything I was just wondering if you'd like a drink?". "A drink?" he asked and you nodded "it was that or to dance and drink seems a lot less scary". Mako paled at the thought of dancing and nodded "a drink sounds nice" and led you to the bar. It was an open bar not that you didn't have the money but it did save the awkward conversation of you insisting on paying. As you hadn’t really drunk before you ordered the same as Mako and sipped it nervously. You'd heard alcohol tasted horrible but this wasn't a bad taste. "This is nice!" you said and Mako smiled "I'm glad you like it! It can be a little spicy but of course being from the Fire Nation you're used to spice". You nodded along and then smiled when you found a free table. You were slightly away from everyone else so you could actually hear one another but also not so hidden away you couldn't see anything. You actually had a pretty great vantage point and could watch the whole party without being bothered by it. "Can I ask you something?" Mako asked and you nodded. "What is the Fire Nation like?" he asked "I still haven't been". You thought about how you would describe the Fire Nation and answered honestly "the Fire Nation is beautiful, warm and so tidy" you laughed "it is the most organised nation I've ever seen. Which is odd when you compare it to cities like this which were built so recently but are so less efficient". Mako nodded "I've heard of the Fire Nation's work ethic, so I am not surprised. What's your favourite place?". "The islands" you said immediately "the beaches are so clean and the water is crystal clear. The cities are beautiful too but the islands are so calming". Mako nodded "I hope I can see it one day". You nodded "I'm sure I will, perhaps I can show you around". You could tell the alcohol was affecting you from the offer you made but Mako's smile made it worth it. "I'd like that" he said smiling warmly and you nodded "we will have to arrange it".  You were saved from any more follow-up questions by Asami's entrance.
Asami descended in true world-renown CEO fashion. The lights dimmed except the ones on the staircase and the room lapsed into silence. She appeared wearing a stunning dress as her dark hair sparkled and she effortlessly captured everyone’s attention. You smiled as she greeted everyone with a dazzling look and received dozens of compliments. If anyone deserved to be spoiled on her birthday it was Asami.
Beside you Mako was also smiling “it always amazes me how she transforms so well. She can go from hard mechanic to heiress so quickly and authentically” You nodded “she’s pretty special” and Mako agreed “how did the two of you meet by the way? I know Asami said you met in the Fire Nation but I didn’t hear more than that”. You were quite tightlipped about your time in the Fire Nation but tonight had agreed to be a little more spontaneous so you nodded. “We were at a party kind of like this, the Fire Nation loves throwing a party so it was bound to happen eventually. I was in the capital to visit a family friend and she insisted I come along to this party so I reluctantly agreed. I was in the planning stages of my factories and thought it’d be impossible to find a good investor at a party full of fancy nobles but I was wrong. I’d heard of Asami Sato, I mean everyone had and the second I realised she was at the party I perked right up. I admired everything she’d done overcoming sexism and ageism to define her business and her place as CEO...so I think I fangirled a little when I met her”. Mako smiled “you fangirl?” and you smiled “what are you trying to say?”. Mako paled “I didn’t mean anything by it just...you’re quite serious”. You nodded “I have my wilder moments, so I basically talked at Asami for 5 minutes straight and then worried she’d think I was crazy and tell me to go away”. Mako smiled “like she’d say that to an heiress” and you nodded, making a note to yourself to be careful what you were saying. “But of course Asami was lovely and so down to earth. I think we were the youngest people there and it was so nice to have someone the same age as me. We got talking about business and I mentioned I was looking for a place to start up my business and Asami said I should consider Republic City and then asked what my business was. It was like it was meant to be considering how well our businesses fit together and we agreed to be partners that night”. “Wow that night!” Mako cried and you nodded “we of course met up another day to discuss all the details but yep”. Mako smiled “wow, there are other sides to you” and you smiled “you have no idea”.
Then as if she could sense you were talking about her, Asami appeared. “Y/n, Mako! It’s so good to see you” she said hugging you both “thanks for coming”. “Like we’d miss your birthday” Mako said and you nodded “I was just telling Mako how we met”. Asami smiled “aww I love that story! It was fate wasn’t it?”. You nodded “it really did feel like that” and Asami beamed. “So are the two of you enjoying yourself?” Asami asked “sat alone in the corner!”. You both blushed but nodded “we’re having a great time” Mako said not so convincingly and Asami laughed “sure you are”. “No we are” you said and Asami smiled “oh yeah then prove it? Come and dance with me”. Horror went through both your and Mako’s face and Asami sighed “fine but at the end of the night there’s a traditional dance that everyone has to do so atleast come and join in with that?”. You weren’t sure but Mako nodded “okay we’ll come for that” surprising you. Asami smiled and hugged you both again before rushing off.
You’d danced before but only because in high-end society you were expected to know how to dance. So that added another layer of nerves to your dance with Mako, he’d expect you to be a good dancer as an heiress and you’d hate for dancing to be the thing that blew your cover of all things. So for the rest of the night you were a little tense and when the moment came you panicked. “I guess we better go get ready” Mako said standing up but you couldn’t move”. “Y/n?” he asked and you took a breath “I’m okay...I’m coming” and Mako paused “are you sure because we don’t have to dance” guessing what you were nervous about “we can sit this out or go outside or something”. You shook your head “no I want to do this for Asami”. Mako nodded “and that’s sweet but Asami wouldn’t want you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with and neither would I”. You shot him a grateful smile and nodded “I just need to breathe for a little bit, can you talk to me about anything?”. Mako nodded and told you about his journey to work this morning and all the small things that annoyed him. By the time the music started you were almost smiling at how annoyed Mako was by the streetlights going off 5 minutes later than usual and were feeling better.
“I’m ready” you said standing up and Mako looked at you “are you sure?”. You nodded “yes” and led him to the floor. You weren’t late at all and fitted in with everyone else walking to the floor. There was a slight hesitation of Mako to put his hands on your waist but with a small nod from you he did it and it felt...oddly okay. You started the dance expecting it to be awkward and horrible but it was dare you say nice? You felt comfortable with Mako and he kept just making you feel safer and safer. “If you want to leave just pat my shoulder and I’ll lead the way no questions asked”. You smiled “thanks Mako but I’m feeling better now, your story really helped”. Mako paused clearly surprised but pleased “it did? That’s good”. You nodded “I sometimes just get nervous when I’m doing something I’ve never done before. I have quite an anxious personality and it spills out sometimes which I know must seem odd considering so many workers rely on me”. Mako shook his head “not at all, just because you’re successful and brave doesn’t mean you don’t get nervous or get anxious. I have an anxious personality too...you must’ve noticed I can be quite strict and like things all organised”. You nodded “maybe a little” making Mako laugh. “But that’s what makes you a great leader and teacher...and detective I’m sure” you added and Mako blushed “thanks y/n and thanks for sharing that with me about your nerves. If there’s anything you’re ever nervous about and I can help in any way just let me know”. It was such a kind and sweet offer you blushed and thanked Mako who was also blushing.
The song ended and you were surprised because it felt like it had only just started! You and Mako blinked realising there were other people in the world and then panicked as a faster song started playing and everyone started dancing more energetically. “Hmmm think one dance was enough?” Mako asked and you nodded “of course” and as the night seemed to be rounding off and turning more into a dance you both decided to call it a night.
You were prepared to say goodbye to Mako at the door but Mako wasn’t. “I’ll walk you home, I’ve been worried about you and Asami lately and I don’t want anything to happen to you”. That broke your heart for two reasons. 1. It was incredibly sweet and kind of Mako to worry about you and want to protect you. 2. It was horribly bittersweet that you were the person who was making him worry and causing him all this stress. You felt terrible but hopefully wouldn’t be a criminal for much longer so thanked Mako and set off together.
You always liked the city at night and the walk was incredibly peaceful. You chatted as you walked and it felt so natural and nice. “So tonight actually wasn’t too bad” you commented and Mako laughed “I was thinking the same thing! It was nice to have another introvert there”. You smiled “it was and if you ever need an introvert to slip out of something early with just give me a call”. “Really? you’d willingly be social?” Mako asked joking and you laughed “yeah but only for you” and then realised how flirty that sounded. Mako went pink and you blushed too. “I’m holding you to this” Mako said and you smiled “that’s fine by me” when you reached your house. You opened the gate and turned to Mako “thanks for...well everything tonight. Walking me home and being so understanding. I really appreciate it”. “You don’t have to thank me, I’m here for you y/n” Mako said and that got you. You had your best friend who was like family but it had been so long since someone had said that to you and it made you want to cry. “Thank you” you said again “that means a lot” and Mako smiled “no problem”. “I’m going to go inside now” you said and Mako nodded “of course, goodnight y/n” ruffling his hair nervously and you nodded “goodnight Mako” and went inside.
You closed your door and let out a huge sigh.
It was at that moment that you realised...you’d fallen for Republic City’s detective Mako.
Mako’s POV
Mako walked home very quickly in his good mood. He smiled at people he passed and had a skip to his step. When he got home he just spent some time relaxing and enjoying the positive mood you’d put him in when it was all ruined by a call from the police station telling him the guardian of Republic City had been spotted and was on the move...
_______
I love how this was a Mako series but this part was just a shrine to how amazing Asami is  😂 but I’m not mad. Asami Sato is superior and I will happily spread the word on that.

Vigilante Work
Prior installments: Romance, Maroon and Blossoms, AO3 link: Is This a Romance?
Asami has always wanted to be a vigilante, but until she'd met Korra and the brothers, it has always been just that a dream.
So when Korra suggested they head out and defeat Equalists despite it very much being against the government's wishes? Heck yeah. Asami, after that failure with Naga, even offered to drive. She's quite proud of how she sent her satomobile flying into a mech to blow it up. How satisfying.
It is so thrilling that when Korra again asks for her help -- this time to save her father and inadvertently cause a Civil War -- Asami immediately says, "Yes please" with no hesitation. She even crashes two planes for Tonraq, she is proud to say.
Is it any wonder she built the airship, gives it to Korra, joins her on the grand adventure to bring back the Air Nation, and then fights to save her from Zaheer? Vigilante Asami will not let Korra die if she has anything to say or do about it.
Now she sits in her boring office, staring at a mountain of paperwork, and wondering why her life has come to this. She has been a vigilante, a force for good and harmony, and she is poring through the notations of her company lawyers, after a lengthy meeting with them, and signing only the necessary documents to file a suit against yet another of President Raiko's annoying machinations. He seems determined to make her progress with her engineering forums and homeless shelters costly.
She ponders how a vigilante would handle this. She knows what Korra likely would have done. Given him a good punch or four. Asami would, of course, be at her side.
That isn't the answer here, despite how badly she wants it. She glares at the offending documents, and considers whether she should take a vacation for a month or ten. She hates politics and bureaucracy. She simply wants to create and build good things.
A knock sounds at her door, and Asami is tempted to toss her empty teacup at the door. She has no idea who it is since her assistant would not be knocking like this. So who could it be?
She glances at her calender, but there's nothing for the rest of the afternoon. Not that there would be. She has it blocked off to wrestle with aggravating paperwork.
When the knock sounds again, she marches to the door and pulls it open, ready to give her assistant a good talking to for not screening out people.
Only to come face to face with Jinora. Startled, she takes a step back and waves her hand at her office. "Jinora, what are you doing here?"
Jinora is wearing the wingsuit -- not the misguided attempt at unlocking chakras suit, no that one is hidden deep underground in the sub-basements of the mansion under lock and key -- but the one Asami has made for the Air Nation. Her hair is windblown, so likely she's flown straight here.
"I... I wanted to ask you something big, and I totally get if you can't say anything!" Jinora shuts the door behind her.
"Of course." Asami leads her to the sofa at the far end of her office. That's when she realizes it's late, way late. In fact, sun is setting late. No wonder her assistant didn't warn her. Tariq heads home promptly at five for dinner, and calls in to verify if she's left at seven.
Jinora remains standing. "Um. You've heard about Kuvira, right?"
Asami settles on the edge of the sofa. "Odd things, yes." This is her way of trying to be diplomatic. She knows Bolin is working for her, despite Asami's attempt to convince him otherwise. She also knows Kuvira's train system, which Asami has reluctantly assisted in building Republic City's portion of it, has helped bring the Earth Kingdom together like none other.
But Asami doesn't like Kuvira. Something about the woman irritates and unnerves her. She only gives Kuvira the time of day because of her rescuing Tonraq's life. Beyond that, she would love to wash her hands of the woman.
"I think she's funding the bandits." Jinora starts to pace. "Opal and Kai got back recently, you know? And they shared how the town struggled to get food. That bandits had been attacking for months. Then Kuvira pulls up in her train! Tries to pressure the mayor to join her. He refuses."
Asami watches Jinora with a slight frown, while she struggles to follow her story. Her words are mashing together with more and more speed.
"Opal and Kai offer to get food. But they're attacked by bandits on planes! And they're way skilled! Opal said she felt certain they'd had military training, and the plane was in excellent condition. Newly painted."
Asami stands and grabs Jinora's shoulders. She is a bit lost at this point. Something about newly painted plans and military training is all she caught of the last bit.
"Jinora," she says gently. "Please sit down. Panicking won't help us." She leads Jinora to the sofa and pushes her down. "Let's take a moment to breathe, okay?"
Jinora nods. "Right, right." She breathes with Asami in the same breathing pattern that Pema had once taught Asami not long after Asami's father had attempted to murder her (Pema had taught her after Asami broke down crying while washing dishes with her, and Asami has used it often to stave off panic since then).
"Better?" Asami lets her go and sits down next to her.
Jinora nods. "Did... you get all I said?"
Asami holds her hand up and flips it up and down. "More or less. Do you have more stories like this? Moments the Air Nation tried to help only to be thwarted by bandits right before Kuvira comes to the rescue?"
Jinora nods again.
Asami is prepared. This is the stuff of vigilante's. She holds up a finger and rushes to her desk. She digs through a few drawers until she finds an old map she kept mostly because Korra had drawn random things on the margins while waiting for Asami to finish a project. They had planned to go investigating the spirit vines that particular day.
In fact, that drawer holds every piece of paper -- no matter if it was scrap paper -- that Korra has ever written a character or doodled upon. It's a trifle embarrassing really, but Asami keeps the drawer locked when she's not in the room for a reason.
She pulls it out, examines her walls, and decides to just tape it to a window. She chooses the one closest to the sofa, but not the one that she has specially made for when Korra returns. Who knows, maybe Korra would want to enter a window to surprise her? Best to make it so it's openable from both ends.
"All right. Let's mark each incident." Asami grabs a marker and gestures to Jinora.
Jinora looks much calmer now that she sees a plan forming. She stands and starts pointing to various spots on the Earth Kingdom map. Asami marks each one until Jinora ends with the latest infraction.
Asami steps back and caps her marker. There's gaps in the data, partly from the Air Nation being spread so thin, but it's far too obvious now that Jinora is likely correct. Every time bandits interferes with the Air Nation, Kuvira steps in, and that sector of the Earth Kingdom joins her initiative.
"That is not good." Asami puts her hands on her hips and glares at the offending map. This is almost as bad as her paperwork. "Forcing states to join is vile." She taps the marker against her bottom lip. "I think we need an analysis of the bandits' forces."
"So you have a plan?" Jinora asks hopefully.
Oh. Is that why Jinora came? Asami is pleased that Jinora trusts her to come up with plans, but in all honesty, she has no idea how to deal with this. Politics is not her wheelhouse. That's engineering and maybe being a vigilante.
Does Jinora need Asami to crash a few planes for the Air Nation? Asami finds such a thought thrilling, even though there's no real reason to waste a plane on such an endeavor, and she's more than capable of not crashing it.
Being an engineer, fixing things is her lifeblood. Building something as perfect as possible to avoid explosions and other potential problems is her specialty, and partly why she's a bit obsessed with pouring over designs and testing their products before they hit the market. She must make sure they are perfect.
So to have a chance to join Korra or the Air Nation in a destructive moment for a good cause? It flies against all of Asami's instincts, gives her a sense of wonder, and for a moment, Asami can pretend to be someone else. Someone not so obsessed with building and repairing everything to perfection. To experience the thrill of adrenaline at the epic explosion caused by her. It's a relief to let her important responsibilities go for a little while.
"Too bad I can't go full vigilante and sabotage her train," Asami says, mostly to herself. Flying a plane into the tracks could do that however.
"Some villagers tried that. They vanished," Jinora says, uneasily.
Asami turns to stare at her. "What?"
Jinora rubs the back of her necks. "Yeah, Opal, Kai, and some of the other teams keep hearing stories of people speaking out against Kuvira and then they vanish. Most claim its bandit attacks, but..." she taps her fingers against the map.
Asami presses a hand against her temple. She wishes Korra is here. Her hand drifts to her pocket and pulls out Korra's last letter to her. The one where she promises to return to Asami. Has Korra found the Avatar spirit yet? Asami reads through the letter for the millionth time, only to tuck it away with a sigh.
"What's that?" Jinora points to her pocket.
Asami blushes. "Uh. A letter."
"From Korra?" Jinora looks excited. "You've heard from her? Maybe she can help!"
Asami sighs. "Jinora, this letter is five months old. I also can't say where she is or what's she's doing. Promised." She looks at the map.
"Wait." Jinora narrows her eyes. "Wait, she writes you? Tells you where she is?"
"Did. Though we exchanged a few letters before that."
"What?" Jinora jumps up and down. "Asami! Why didn't you say something! Korra hasn't written anyone and then she only writes you?"
Asami shifts from foot to foot. "Jinora, it's hardly proof that she feels the same." Asami wonders if perhaps her tearful confession in the meditation pavilion ten months prior is a mistake. She has not calculated in how excited Jinora would be at these crumbs, almost as much as Asami has been.
Being an engineer, Asami relies on data, and three letters, no matter how Korra signed them or the content of them, is not enough data points to prove conclusively that Korra is in love with her. This is why Asami has told no one except Jinora her feelings for Korra, and Jinora only learned because out of all the people in her life, the younger girl is the only one who consistently talks to Asami.
"Right." Jinora gives her a disbelieving look. "Only writes you. Only tells you what's she's doing."
"We're best friends," Asami protests, weakly. She thinks of how Korra had signed the last letter with love, while the others had been signed with yours. She wishes she knew for sure what that meant.
Jinora gives her an exasperated look, her hands on her hips. "Asami."
"Jinora." Asami crosses her arms. They have done this before several times, mostly when Asami confesses to feeling alone or friendless. JInora then gets all exasperated and says her name as if Asami is the silliness person on the planet. Asami suspects that Jinora is quite right, but she will never admit it.
They hold the standoff for a bit before Jinora gives in and turns back to the map. "Dad was a bit dismissive of Opal's story. I think this would convince him we're right. Especially if he knows you helped me. He respects you a lot."
This startles Asami. "He does?"
"Asami." Jinora gives her that exasperated look again.
Asami manages a rueful smile. She will give Jinora that much.
"He's worried about Korra too. Everyone is I think. Do... do you think you can give me a clue? I promise to not tell anyone it was you."
Asami frowns. "I promised, Jinora."
"But what if we need her?"
"Korra promised me she'd return to me..." Asami realizes how that sounds and turns to the map. "I mean... when she is ready to return, she will." She knows without looking that Jinora is not fooled, especially with that exasperated sigh. The third one that hour! Asami has definitely broken a record at this point. Jinora is never going to let her down.
"So, about this?" She gestures to the map, in hopes of changing the subject. "Do you need assistance on how to handle?"
"Can I take this to Dad?"
Asami hesitates. Why did she have to use the one that Korra has drawn on? She ponders the dilemma, then goes to her desk and grabs scissors. She cuts off the Northern and Southern Water Tribe portion of the map, where most of Korra's doodles are located. These she carefully tucks back into her desk.
Except her hand brushes up against a carefully hidden stack of letters. Ones she has refused to open. The ones from her father. Asami yanks her hand out as if scalded and shoves the door closed. She keeps her back to Jinora, and breathes the way Pema has taught her. In through her nose, and out through her mouth. She is safe here, her father is in jail, and it is unlikely he has means to make an attempt on her life again.
"You okay?" Jinora lightly touches her arm.
Asami sighs and manages a smile. She'll have to deal with her father, which she'll do tomorrow. "I just... got reminded of a painful personal thing, that's all."
"Your Dad?"
Jinora is perceptive as always.
"I recall not telling you he's writing me," Asami says with a frown.
"Oh, he's writing you? Wow, that's worse than I thought." Jinora looks worried.
"Wait." Asami is very confused and a bit lost. "Then how did you guess?"
"Personal thing always means your father," Jinora says as if this is a fundamental theory of the universe.
Asami is a trifle frustrated that she's that transparent. Or maybe more accurately, Jinora is far too perceptive than she has any right to be. Frustrating.
But at the same time, it warms her to know that she has a friend that isn't just Korra (and maybe Mako and Bolin if they would actually stay in contact, but then men aren't known for being that thoughtful).
For some reason, this gives her a rather ludicrous idea. "Jinora." She turns back to the map and looks it over. "There's a region that Kuvira hasn't hit yet." She circles Zaofu and the province next to it. Not far from that region is another one that has no known villages -- it's the Foggy Swamp. She feels pulled to that region, as if it is important. Crucial almost. Along its edges are several towns. She circles them as well. "I don't think she'd bother with the Swamp, but..."
She looks at Jinora and wonders what she can say. For Korra to not be found or seen by anyone in the last six months, she must be traveling incognito, but even then, there would still be sightings of look-alikes. She's not in the North or South. Asami is fairly certain of this based on her own quiet investigation (she can't help it. Her worries for Korra's safety gets more intense with each passing month), which leaves the Earth Kingdom.
Or rather the area of the Se Wong Desert or Foggy Swamp. She wants to tell Jinora to start there, but she can't. She promised Korra, and this would be a direct violation of that trust.
So instead she writes a character near the Foggy Swamp, one she hopes will give Jinora a clue. Untaping the map, she rolls it up and hands it over.
"I suggest we wait for Kuvira to show her hand. She will at the coronation. When she does, the Air Nation will need to act fast. I will assist in what ways I can, such as provide any technology you may need. I suggest doing patrols to search for any evidence of missing people. I also suggest tricking Bolin."
"Tricking Bolin?" Jinora says, confused.
Asami nods. "Don't reveal the plan to him. However, all you will need to do swap his jacket and belt. Stop by after the coronation and I'll give you his new jacket and belt."
"What's special about it?"
Asami rubs her hands together, gleefully. "I figured out a way to make a small recorder! It'll record what he hears. Though battery is an issue." She taps her bottom lip. "Hmm. I'll install three battery sources. We only need enough to catch him talking with Kuvira. And if Kuvira goes full on evil, I don't believe he'll stay with her. He'll want out. We can retrieve it from him then. Should give us insight into her next move."
Jinora's eyes widen in amazement. "I knew you'd think of something!" She bounds forward and wraps Asami in a hug. "I'll do just that!"
Asami pats Jinora's back. She has no idea if this plan will work, and in all honesty, she suspects it won't. That isn't the point of it however. If it helps relieve Jinora's worries to have a plan -- no matter how ludicrous -- then Asami can provide that.
Plus, she's always wanted to do a field test. She's positive that Bolin will get a kick out of being that field test, once he comes to his senses and leaves Kuvira's team.
This gives her another idea. One that is definitely petty.
It involves dressing in all black with a face mask and egging President Raiko's home. Juvenile, maybe? Yes. Satisfying? Also, yes.
Besides, that's what vigilante's do. Stunts to make the powerful understand their power has limits, and it's been awhile since Asami has been a vigilante. She thinks she deserves this. Especially if she has to visit her father tomorrow.
She'll buy the eggs as soon as Jinora heads out with the map.

mako propaganda of 2022 continues
hear me out.
i think there’s really valid reasons as to why mako ended up being wu’s bodyguard.
ramblings below cut
ignoring how mako is wasted as a cop and spent a large part of the time he is a cop he’s doing vigilantism than lets talk about the reasons mako was likely chosen to be wu’s part bodyguard part bodyman because it doesn’t appear that wu has any other personal staff at all. at least that we saw. i really wish we’d gotten more as to what was going on there, you know.
i also think book 4 had some silly writing choices because you will not convince me people in positions of power did not see kuvira for what she was by the time of the coronation even if raiko had his head up his own ass about it.
and if we ignore the commentary that wu found mako in the newspaper and asked for him specifically which is very funny and also very gay, wu, goddamn.
reasons why mako was the best choice for wu’s bodyguard and lin did it on purpose because lin beifong is not a stupid woman but was probably salty about handing over one of her best.
mako is a skilled fighter. he had pro-bending history which says a lot to thinking on his feet and adaptability. he fought against the equalists and the red lotus. he has experience against the type that would come after wu because they didn’t know if there were any red lotus still out there after the events of book 3.
mako has some decent political connections even if he’s totally oblivious to them. raiko definitely used mako as a political pawn in his aim to get wu as a puppet king. mako’s connection to korra and him being on fairly friendly terms with other leaders such as suyin beifong, tonraq, and tenzin was another boon for raiko. he’s also good friends with asami sato who is a rich heiress running the company that’s improving republic city to the point where his extend family lives long term at her estate. i think it’s an interesting idea that people encouraged wu’s behavior so that he’d not be interested in the throne. it’s a more low key version of what happened to kuei.
mako isn’t going to be bribed or bought. mako have too much integrity for that to be a possibly he also takes a lot of pride in his job. lin knows this and know she doesn’t have to question mako’s loyalty. there’s gonna be no sneaky business and kuvria’s people won’t get an inside man.
mako is good at his job and an independent thinker. he’s lin beifong’s star pupil. he went to lin beifong’s school of fuck around and find out. mako’s not above doing what needs to be done even if it doesn’t necessarily fit with the letter of the law. he’s no stranger to lethal force but it’s rarely the go to.
he’s definitely more likely to not put up with wu’s shit or become a sycophant. his own history makes this even more so. he raised bolin while being homeless since the age of 8. he’s tough and practical. while asami is wealthy wu is literal royalty and mako already has a built in bias against the earth kingdom and that level of obscene wealth. (mako’s relationship with wealth and how asami fits into that is pretty fascinating to think about).
lin totally used mako’s pretty face against wu and counted on mako’s obliviousness to it. wu is not a straight person and he totally has a crush on mako. i don’t care what the show tries to say about it because the show uses heavy queer coding for wu.
in short, while mako clearly wasn’t thrilled about being wu’s bodyguard for a majority of his stint and he certainly wasn’t ruminating on the whys it was smart to put him in the position. he’s got skills and qualities that made it work even if he was pissy about it.
it was probably a minor miracle that wu was so tolerant of mako’s mako-ness but wu seems affection starved and we also really didn’t see how they were for a majority of the time skip. they were probably fine and got along decently tbh because wu is not above melodrama and mako may be a people pleaser but he would walk backwards into hell facing god before staying at job he genuinely hated for that long.
another sticking point for me has always been that the writers had mako sulk so hard he neglected to do his one job. mako exists in a constant state of hyper vigilance and while i thinking the sulking and petulance were pretty par the course they could’ve gone a better route than make mako fail so that they could have korra be the hero. they wanted her to have something of a win so they had her succeed in finding/saving wu but it was at the expense of making mako look incompetent and foolish. i’m still of the mind that they should’ve approached wu and mako’s relationship differently.
...i think this got away from me.

All The Way To State
A Young Justice volleyball AU short story
Thad had never felt actually part of a team before.
Kon and Tim struggled to work with others, both being too stubborn to actually listen most of the time
Jaime had a voice in his head telling him to commit violent acts against people, and found that isolated him.
Bart kept too many secrets to really feel close to anyone. Sure he'd been part of a team, but he'd never really been PART of a team.
Cassie and Cissie always had their favorites and weren't very close to others.
Ed, Tye, Asami, and Virgil all had their own issues and friend groups. None of them really related well to the team.
Anita, Greta, and Jinny never really felt part of the team, either. They were always just outside.
But they made it this far together. Working together, growing trust and improving side by side. They'd just played their last regionals game.
It was nerve-wracking for all of them. Kon could hear everyone's hearts racing, including his own. Him and Thad had stepped out multiple times in order to cope with the sheer amount of noise.
It was rough. They'd had fights and gotten ill and injured, and of course the majority of them still had their vigilante lives to manage.
But they did it. The first set was a breeze, having won 25-9. The second set wasn't far off with a 25-11 victory.
But the third set was by far the worst. Kon kept hitting directly into the net, Thad's serves were off and kept flying out, Bart kept just /barely/ missing. Everyone hit the ball everywhere except where they wanted it to go.
But they did it. It was close, 25-23, but they won. They made it to state.
The moment the referee blew the whistle signaling the point was theirs, cheers erupted. From the audience, from their team, from everyone there to support them. Those on the court- Bart, Cassie, Cissie, Kon, Tim, and Ed- huddled up in a circle, cheering and shouting. Those not on the court jumped to their feet, running over and embracing their teammates. Fistbumps, high fives, and hugs were shared. There was a kiss between Cassie and Cissie. Thad even tolerated a hair ruffle from Jaime and a warm punch in the shoulder from Bart.
To make it all the more sweet, they knew that they had saved their sport. Rumors spread earlier in the year that volleyball might get removed in favor of tackle football if the team didn't make state. No one was sure of the validity. They'd even asked the principal and he hadn't heard of that rumor.
But if the rumor was true, then that made their victory all the sweeter. They were heroes. Not just at night, as Red Robin or Superboy or Impulse or Wonderful or Arrowette. They were heroes of their sport.
At least, at their school they were.
In the end, they couldn't wait for their next game. Win or lose, they were a team.

Zootopia/TMNT Crossover Fic Fanfiction Idea
Yup!
You read that right! My dad and I rewatched Zootopia recently and it struck me how interesting it would be if the Hamatos lived in the world of Zootopia!
I like the idea of using the Japanese word for family, Kazoku, as the title for this idea, but I’m still on the fence about that. I’d love suggestions! (Something found family-esque since that’s the main theme of this idea.)
In the meantime, let me explain how this crossover with some ideas I have!
I will be going through the events of Zootopia, but from the perspective of the Hamatos, and I am including my TMNT OCs, Asami, and Lupa.
If you need a refresher or haven’t seen my TMNT OCs, Here is a bio for them! I love these girls so much!
Anyway, the Hamatos will not be vigilante ninjas in this AU (unless I can think of an excuse to do so but really there’s no reason, so...) because there isn’t an intense clan rivalry or need for them to fight anyone, really. Just competition between Ninjutsu dojos with Oroku Saki heading a rival dojo (which may or may not be dealing with the mafia but I haven’t totally figured that part out yet).
I love the idea of Splinter running a Ninjutsu dojo cus I cannot think of Splinter without thinking of ninjutsu.
Tang Shen is alive cus she deserves it and Splinter needs some help raising 6 kids! XD She is their mother and loves them so much!
Splinter and Tang Shen are about the size of Mr. Big, and they have a house that can fit their kids with a system of ramps, platforms, and tubes so they can get around easier and not be underfoot on the ground.
The turtles are the same species as they are in Rise, but slightly less chaotic in personality since they aren’t raised in isolation in the sewers. But their personality will be sort-of a mix of 2003 and Rise. Or at least, that’s what I’m aiming for. We’ll see how this goes.
Splinter himself is based mostly on the 2003 Splinter since I prefer him over Rise Splinter and it fits my ideas better.
The kids know Ninjutsu, but don’t really use it too often, just for some friendly sparring.
Since they’re not also a team of vigilantes in this crossover, there’s less sibling rivalry between Leo and Raph.
Splinter and Tang Shen adopt the kids, obviously, the turtles first after seeing them homeless on the street as young kids, then a year or so after that adoption is finalized, Splinter loses one of his good friends who happens to be a wolf, and there was no one to step up and take care of Asami and Lupa, the only children of Splinter’s friend, so Splinter and Tang Shen decide to adopt the girls.
This is an unusual adoption, given that rats are prey and wolves are predators, but Splinter manages to get custody and legally adopt the girls and things are normal...
Until predators start ‘going savage’, raising tensions between prey and predators.
Would anyone be interested in this fic? I have the prologue written already, but I wanted to gauge interest first!
Let me know!

VERSE META || Hiroshi VS. Asami's Choice
[ R/OTT/MNT Verse ]
Tumblr media
Shortly after Hiroshi learns that Asami has befriended the turtles, he puts up a false face and acts as if he's fine with it, noting they do a lot of good for the city, even complimenting Donnie's work as "promising." He even praises them all and thanks them for helping out his daughter. He pretends to be fine with them, telling them to their faces that after the invasion, and other strange, supernatural attacks on the city over the past few years, he doesn't find it odd to meet them. And he's not REALLY lying, he does mean some of it.
But he still doesn't want her associating too closely with them for many reasons...
One is snobbish: he feels she has certain obligations because of who she is, where she's going in life and has to keep up certain appearances as a Sato. She can't be SEEN too often with Mutants. One is fearful: they could endanger her life by how THEY live and who they attract into their lives; ( ignoring he already knows his daughter is an adrenaline junkie and fighter in her own right ) One is personal: no one going to take his daughter away from him. And last, one is practical: He is involved with some shady, dark associates and doings, and he doesn't want crime-busting vigilantes crossing his path. He's not so arrogant that he doesn't see how they saved the city and the world from powerful forces. He knows his crime ring would be on their list.
SO. Hiroshi starts his own plan on fixing up his heiress with eligible ( Japanese ) bachelors around her age, ones that are rising stars in the business sector of his company. IE: He will have a fancy dinner at their home on the UE Side, and among the familiar faces of board members, oh look! There's this well-dressed, well groomed guy placed next to or adjacent to Asami.
Asami always catches on immediately, and although she's her typical proper, polite self among her dad's colleges and the thorofare, she spurns all the "gentleman's" advances and excuses herself from every encounter her dad sets up.
Asami will sneak out at any length to get away, as far as climbing out of bathroom windows and speeding away in either her motorcycle or switching multiple cabs to get away from the scene.
She doesn't tell Leo about ANY of this for a time, because she doesn't want him getting paranoid or hurt, and she's loyal to him, anyway.
Eventually, this game wears thin and she gets into a big fight with Hiroshi, outing that she is actually dating one of her friends--Leo. Hiroshi doesn't take it well...( Like the canon L/oK storyline ) Hiroshi is in with some BAD people, only in modern day NYC, it's more like he's planning his own criminal empire.
This will spurn her gathering her belongings and leaving, and the rift is set.
Hiroshi doesn't cut her off financially for a time, because he wants to coax her back to him and away from the turtles and their crime fighting, but she remains loyal to them, to Leo.
Her relationship is very rocky with Hiroshi for a time, and just as in original canon, he does end up finally "stopped" and incarcerated...
NB: It's important to note as bad as Hiroshi comes off, just as in canon, Asami has very complicated feelings about her dad. He still loves her, never forget that. But the gang has their hands full keeping her stable after all this betrayal. She is very stubborn about x'ing her dad out, but she still has moments where she waivers. She stays with/near the boys ( & company ) instead, as she's already imprinted on them as her real family....And grafts herself to Leo after all this.

Yumeko Osorege
Full Name: Yumeko Osorege
Hero Alias: Wondrous Hero - Daydreamer
Age: 3 (The Heroes), 21 (Young Heroes AU), 30s (BNHA Next Gen)
Gender: Female (Cis, She/Her)
Race: Mixed
Nationality: Japan
Ethnicity: Nigerian-American/Japanese
Description:
Tumblr media
Design notes:
While not born with the tough exoskeleton her father, uncles, and cousins have, Yumeko's skin is still pretty tough and hard to pierce through.
Can secrete the same black substance that all her family members (except her mother) can as either saliva or blood.
Personality: Yumeko is often sleepy, one could even see her napping in the back of the class or just about anywhere that's comfortable. When she is awake, she is very quiet and doesn't really speak much. But she is also very affectionate and friendly.
Many people never expect her to be the daughter of one of the most violent and dangerous vigilantes in history because of how different she is from her father. It might also be because Nia was the main positive influence in her life.
Quirk: Daydream - Yumeko has the power to bring one's daydreams to life by releasing a pink cloud from her pores. She can bring multiple daydreams to life at once.
Family:
Yuto Osorege | Fright Night (Father)
Nia Osorege (nee Udoka) | Sweet Dream (Mother)
Two unnamed siblings
Scarecrow (Uncle)
Asami Osorege (nee Iganiku) | Madam Macabre (Aunt)

🗑 + Asami and Rin?
Tumblr media
I feel I may have mentioned this before, but Asami was originally going to have a much older sister who HATED her for ‘killing their mum’ during childbirth…this was too similar to existing storylines in the manga so I scrapped the whole sister idea and tweaked her backstory! Can read about that whole idea more here
Asami was also going to be a lot more outgoing, with her personality being quite similar to Mina (super extroverted and outspoken) but there were so many characters like that in class 1A, that I felt they needed someone a bit more… motherly? Who took care of everyone when they needed it even if they didn’t think they did!
I also had imagined both her parents would be fully fledged heroes but both died when she was young, but then I went with her dad being the sidekick to her mum as a hero (which is still pretty much what it is now) but instead he raised her alone and became a teacher at UA after she died
Tumblr media
Rins original creation was crazy actually lmao, lemme rant for a sec: so Rin was originally called Labyrinth - nickname ‘Rin’, a time travelling/world travelling vigilante who collected items/intel from fictional/alternate realities to aid her mentor/scientist friends plans to save the world she was from! She was created by the scientist in question as a robot assistant but she wasn’t aware of this, she just thought she was a normal human that was ‘modified’ by him
This was mainly an excuse for her to meet all my faves from a bunch of different animes etc and be this odd character that popped into their worlds/story’s for a short amount of time, stole some equipment or ancient artefact and then went on to the next world using this bracelet that teleported her though all of them! I still love this idea and have lots of plans for it, but will be developing this as a completely original and/or self indulgent oc instead haha
She also teleported into the MHA world by accident and wound up getting caught up with the league of villains, then started working with dabi and was having this kinda fling relationship before she had to leave their world again and never see him again lmao (yeh…talk about self indulgent…) but anyway yeh she was NOT what she is now lemme tell ya
Once she was the Rin we know and love, I struggled with finding the right motivation for her villainous ways and went between her just loving to cause chaos, as well as a bunch of other things but mainly just went with ‘she’s from a villain family/yakuza - crime is in her blood and she longs to be the boss’ kinda vibe
There was a whole separate thing as well where she was a romance for Hawks and the character had Rins quirk but this was just a one off day dream and didn’t become anything else aha
Send me a 🗑️ and I’ll tell you a scrapped OC idea

Shorter chapter, but now you get to see Asami test her new suit! It's time for some Vigilante action.
This suit is her solution for her loss of right foot plus her growing rage and despair over her and Korra's situation and the increasingly heavy responsibilities and hardships that keep hitting her. She has another month in Republic City before she heads South for six weeks of healing with Korra (per their schedule), then she's back in action for two to three months in Republic City. Plenty of time for shenanigans.
EXCERPT:
This guy's friends couldn't see him, nor she see them, since they were a few aisles further into the shop. Being way too loud. Must be amateurs, maybe trying to prove themselves to a triad? She could see they all wore the same clothing - black and red with a bandana. Her target hummed to himself as he broke the locks on the cash register with a crowbar. He pulled out a drawer and began to stuff his sack with yuan notes.
Close enough to the one at the counter, Asami slammed her fist up between the man's legs and into his groin. He gasped in shock, and she snatched his ankles, pulling him back. He fell hard, his head knocking against the counter. Pulling out her fan, she shocked him the moment his body hit the ground. The bag in his hand tumbled free of his now slackened grip, and piles of yuan drifted out across the floor. Her Sensei would be proud, that move had been harder for her to learn with how quiet her approach in a crouch needed to be.
She tied him up the same as his friend outside. The other two hadn’t noticed the take down yet. Walking as quietly as she could, she turned on the electric component of her fans again.

Well, I've been tagged by @stars-and-darkness, @kaligraphy, @badlucksav and @adorkablemamebean, so I guess I can't keep running away from my endless files 😅...
WIP/Tag Game
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it.
