Star-kissed Night Beneath My Wings
Tumblr media
@polyacotarweek Day 5: Favorite Tropes~Duty & Desire, Mutual Pining across the centuries
Polyship: Feyre/Rhysand/Cassian/Azriel
Read on Ao3
AN: This AU was Inspired by @disturbingly-silent's Seraphim!Feyre HC. Thanks for letting me run away with this, lovely!
This fic is going to set up the general AU and then I'll be returning with a few more chapters that dive into what happened in the first war and how the poly dynamic worked for Feyre and the bat boys.
Summary: People say the worst part of war was the bloodshed. The friends you'd fight beside and lose along the way. Maybe her mates were still alive and breathing, but Feyre had lost them all the same. She knew she'd made an unforgivable choice. Five centuries later, she still wasn't quite prepared to face the music.
OR; Seraphim!Feyre x Bat Boys
Rhysand told himself nothing about the visit to Cretea would distract him from his end goal. No matter what was said or who he saw when he landed on that island would keep him from securing the Seraphim legions in the war against Hybern. Yet he still found himself accepting the bottle of whiskey Cassian passed him the moment he entered the House of Wind. Still found himself slumping in his low-backed chair between his two brooding brothers and drinking straight from the bottle.
Amren grimaced, but said nothing about the pity party the three of them were hosting. His cousin, however, was too much of a busybody to let it slide. “You can’t be certain you’ll see her tomorrow. Or in the battles ahead of us. Who knows where Drakon will order whatever battalion she ends up lumped into.”
“Lumped into?” Cassian scoffed. “Drakon won’t be lumping her into anything, Mor. You saw her out there. Barely more than a child, then. With five centuries under her belt…”
Feyre Archeron was remarkable in every sense of the word. He couldn’t forget her skill set in combat any more than he could forget the feeling of her body pressed against his in those few precious nights they shared. Her soft hair tangled around his fingers, the sweet sounds she made, caught between him and his brothers. The glaze in her eyes when they’d map every inch of her wings before letting her return the favor. It was the worst sort of torture, those memories. And beside them, that yawning pit in his chest. Because his mate—their mate, however the fuck it was made possible—had walked away.
And they’d let her. They’d stood there in silence, lingered just long enough for Rhys to cloak the island himself. And then they’d winnowed home as if their little bubble of happiness in a world gone to hell hadn’t just shattered.
Now, he supposed, they’d see where that landed them.
~~~~~
“Rhysand?” Feyre sputtered. “As in, Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court.”
Miryam dismissed her alarm as if it was nothing more than an insect. “You say that like you didn’t call him a friend those years ago. Whatever rumors may claim, we know the truth.”
“That isn’t—” She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Miryam clearly marked the defensive motion, but said nothing. “I’m not making assumptions or villainizing anyone. I’m just wondering why they’re visiting after centuries of silence.”
“Feyre, we all knew Hybern wouldn’t stay down forever. The king has had time to lick his wounds and build a grudge.”
She frowned. “You think Night is here for war aid?”
“Among other things.” She stilled at that voice, smooth as silk and sharp as the legendary blade he kept. Azriel. And on either side of him were the other two males she’d abandoned. “Hello, Feyre. Long time.”
“Yeah.” Guilt was already sinking its nasty claws into her, more invasive than any daemati mind games. “It has been.”
She made herself look at each one of them in turn. Azriel, who like always, kept his face neutral, emotions shut down. If he had any feelings about seeing her here, she couldn’t read it on his face. Cassian had a mask of his own, one that made him seem like an open book to most. But he had become Rhys’ commander for a reason, just as she had become Drakon’s. It was a glint in his eyes and a waver in that charmer’s smile that said the wound she left hadn’t healed entirely. How could it, without a formal rejection? She was even more of a bitch than she felt like that day.
As for Rhys, the look on his eyes made her wonder how much stock could be put in the rumors she’d heard about the Lord of Nightmares. There was nothing of the young prince she’d tangled with in the soft moments between the chaos of battle. Here they were, caught up in another war, another moment of calm. So much was left unspoken, yet nothing went unheard. What cold first words did he intend to deliver?
“A commander. Just as we expected.” She blinked, waiting for something to follow that would cut her to the quick. “You were the best among your peers, after all.”
“Thank you.”
A loud clap broke the tension building. “Hello, old friends,” Drakon exclaimed, gliding up from behind her and greeting the trio warmly. “Let’s all find a seat, shall we? Get down to business. Rhys, where’s your delightful cousin?”
“Home, keeping things moving with the other High Lords. We intend to host a meeting, and gather reinforcements. Secure the other six courts’ armies before our continent is cleaved. Hybern has the Cauldron and is using the weak points in the wall to begin his invasion. Even with their numbers behind us, if we can gain the loyalty of solar and seasonal…”
“You’ll always have my people willing to fly beside yours, Rhys. Just tell us where we’re needed.”
The High Lord nodded. “Thank you, Drakon.”
“Of course. Feyre of course knows how best our current military can be of service.”
Her chest tightened. She knew exactly where this was going. “I’m glad to be of help, however I can.”
Cassian chuckled. She wondered if her friends could hear the hollowness in it as clearly as she could. Their eyes locked again, warrior to warrior, soul to soul. This was not going to be an easy road to travel. "Of course, pressing as all of this is, we shouldn't waste the opportunity to simply catch up," the general said. Not to mention it's been ages since I've had the pleasure of sparring with a seraphim." Sparring. So that's how he was going to play this. "Care to be my first challenger, Feyre?"
Drakon huffed. "Stop flirting with my commander, Cassian."
Another soft laugh, but he complied all the same. Still, simple as the words were, they'd done their job in summoning the past. Feyre only hoped she wouldn't caught in a mess by the time this was all through; that she'd survive whatever storm her mates would bring upon them all.
ROUND 3 MATCH 32
Tumblr media
Mammon propaganda:
“He was done dirty in the first round, I hope he wins this time because he deserves it
First of all, he hates you at the start but then he starts to like you but he exclaimed his hate too much at the start so he can't admit it
Everyone knows that he likes MC, even his little D (who are demons familiars) thinks that they should date
He is a classic tsundere but doesn't actually hurt you like other tsunderes but he is so bad at hiding his feelings that everyone is just ignores it
He is the avatar of greed, meaning he is clingy which may be a turn away for some people but he cares for you so so much
He has never turned into his demon form to hurt you (Asmo hasn't but he has tried to seduce you with his power)
Don't get me started on his story cards, he literally is so cute
He wants to be a mentor to Luke, like Lucifer was to him, he is only mean to Luke because he wants Luke to learn about how life isn't all sunshine and rainbows
He is also so hot, he is a bisexual panic
He is bullied by his brothers but he cares for them so so much despite their bullying
I am so in love with him and have written so many fics about him
Anyway, I'm going to stop here because otherwise I'll be here all day”
“First friend, first pact, practically the MC's first everything, he is a major Tsundere, he holds my heart hostage, I just want to smooch him, he and MC share a room, he is such a cute little bab, he does bully Luke (a child) but it's revealed that he just wants to show Luke that the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows and want help him figure things out
He is the cutest little guy, he cares for his brother
His sin is greed so he does steal things from people but since lesson 1 he hasn't stolen anything from MC
He wrote a song to propose
Sure he is clingy but in a good way
He is so cute
He adopted a child, which he had to leave in the care of witches and willingly let's the witches extort him
There is so much that I can say about him but 1. Spoilers and 2. I don't think you want to read that much”
“OKAY SO. OH MY GOD.
First person we're able to properly romance in game. AND FOR GOOD REASON. He's had MCs back from the beginning, hes the one real one in the game. He's always trying to protect us and its so nice. Puppy boy. He's so me as well??? Like he's such a doting boyfriend it's literally so cute. When MC had to go back up to Earth, he kept breaking the rotating schedule in order to call us more. He always gets MC gifts (avatar of greed love language being gift giving im gonna collapse) and he just drops the most romantic lines out of nowhere??? Like sir are you trying to give me a heart attack. He's the secretly traumatized comic relief. He has ADHD. He's canonically queer (MC doesnt have a set gender). He even likes Head pats. Vote Mammon.”
“HE'S SO PATHETIC AND CRINGEFAIL. I LOVE HIM”
Jaehee propaganda:
“only female love interest in MM, not included in the first round for SOME REASON, you literally go off and live your coffee shop au with her at the end of her route.”
“My lesbian wife. Open a bakery with her after convincing her that she doesn't have to give up her happiness to make money. She can pursue her passions. Also her backstory is so sad and I just wanna hug and kiss her and throw hands at her "family" for making her feel like she does. Also the Valentine's dlc, you get locked in the back of the bakery with her and... Yeah that's my wife. I love her dearly. Also can we just acknowledge that she's like the only path that involves almost none of the dramatic death defying nonsense. You're just gay and in love and it's beautiful”
Raphael - Archduke of Asexuals
Tumblr media
Welcome to another essay from Tavylia! We need some words about the handsome devil himself now, darlings, do we not? Because there's something very Ace about him - and I don't just mean "what a nifty guy", strap in (but not on) because we're going on a deep dive on...
Why Is Raphael the King of Asexuals and What Is It About Him That Draws So Many Of Us To Him Like He Is Made Of Garlic Bread: Another "Short" Essay by TavyliaSin (Who Frankly Rebels Against The Idea Of A Concise Title) ((Because This Is More Fun)) (((I Might Have Some Volo In My Family Tree)))
((Side Note - Ended up discussing more of Asexuality in fandom in general, but that's cool, right?...Right, well, the sections are marked, read as you so wish~)) Alright, this time we're not going to go too heavy into any darker topics, but there will be a deep examination of character, lore, asexuality, and a large heap of headcanons. There will also be a lot of microlabels, so I'll pop a short glossary at the end and some resources.
Also, please remember that no headcanon of mine is ever intended to override canon, or anyone else's HC - each HC is true and valid to the head it lives within~ that's the beauty of them, they are ours, and even when shared they remain our own to enjoy too.
What in the Hells is Asexuality Anyway? Aka, is Lia really trying to say the man she writes so much smut for is not sexual at all? (A brief overview of Asexuality)
Asexuality, in the most basic definition, means quite simply: "Experiencing limited or no sexual attraction." Now, look very closely. Some Asexuals, or Aces as we are sometimes called (and will be in this essay) experience absolute 0 sexual attraction. Some experience a very limited amount, or only under specific circumstances. It's also about Sexual Attraction and does not necessarily include feelings towards Action. I find this is best explained by the Split Attraction Model: Sexual Attraction - Attraction with a sexual component. Romantic Attraction - Attraction with a romantic component. Libido - Arousal, physical desire to act on arousal whether alone or partnered. Sex Drive - The desire to engage in partnered sexual activity, with or without arousal. A lot of people might look at those criteria and think "but those are the same thing", and for many that would be a fair assumption if they tend to be experienced simultaneously. But many among us only experience some parts, or they're not connected. The key is that whilst some Asexuals may experience little or none of any of those four, the only one relevant is the first, and an asexual with high libido or sex drive is no less asexual than any other, there's just no person attached to that libido or drive. So there are asexuals who enjoy sex, who have sexual relationships, and there are also asexuals who have no interest in any of that - the best part is, we're all valid!
Alright, But What Does This Have To Do With Raphael? The Devil Who Seduces In Every Other Sentence?
Right, see, here's the thing. He does flirt, but it never goes further. Seduction is just another tool that he uses, the same way he uses intimidation, promises, and bargains. It would be foolish of him to ignore the potential to bend someone to his schemes when he notices the colour rise to their cheeks when he talks, his goals need a lot of pieces to fall into place. None of it feels genuine. Raphael simply needs people to agree to his terms, and if the promise of sex secures a signature then so be it - besides, he has a hungry incubus at home who can fulfil that side of the deal without him ever having to lift a finger~ It isn't uncommon either for asexual people to make innuendo, lewd jokes, or to flirt without intention - some may even find that it's very easy to do this when there's no attraction or expectation. So for that... He reads as very Ace to me, it's all a part of the manipulation and the grand scheme. There's no actual attraction there. Interest? Certainly, the player character can be a very useful tool in his needs.
What About Haarlep? How Do They Fit In If Raphael Is Asexual?
Haarlep is an extremely sexual being, by their very nature they feed on sex and sexual energy, and we know by what they say that Raphael does indeed sleep with them. The canon would lead one to a logical microlabel when looking at Raphael and Haarlep together: Autosexual - This means experiencing more sexual attraction to yourself than to anyone else. This is a rarer microlabel, but still under the Ace umbrella as "limited sexual attraction" which can mean "attraction is very infrequent" and/or "attraction is only experienced under specific circumstances". And, of course, the HC territory can veer into Haarlep feeling like a safe enough option to deal with Libido and Sex Drive without having to find another partner or worry about attraction. You can also, if you really want to, bring in the canon that so many Anti-Raphael people love to scream about, "Haarlep says Raphael is bad in bed". Perhaps he is, perhaps he's just not into it beyond the simple release of tension and need. I'm not judging him for that, even if my HC is wildly different.
Why Is It Asexuals Like Him So Much? Is It Just Because He's Ace Too?
Well here come the deeper theories, based more on my own personal angle than anyone else's, so please do not assume this is the "only correct interpretation" nor the only way an ace may adore him. Plenty of aces don't feel any sexual or romantic attraction to Raphael, they're simply very fond of him as a character. He's interesting, oddly non-threatening because that flirtation is never pushed too far, never acted on, it's just there, a part of his clear interest in the player character (and he is obsessed, in his way, those diaries read like self-insert fan-fiction Raphael, my love, I see you). There's depth, intrigue, and the same things I've talked about before with villain fandom. So we can look deeper. Flirtation can be nice for anyone to feel, and oddly enough as an Ace I have often preferred characters who are open and overt in their attempts to seduce. This isn't necessarily true in life, real people and fiction are very different (hello, fellow FictoSexuals, good to have you here darlings~) but there is something appealing in the casual manner and clear tone. We also might have more of a draw to villains in general, but I've covered some of that in my last little ramble~ Reciprosexuals may also feel more for Raphael as he's initiating the flirtation, expressing potential attraction. Demisexuals are also likely to find that getting to know him is what draws them in. There's an element of "Forbidden Fruit" at play here too, in the way there isn't a romance for him (Haarlep does not count, they are their own being, a different personality). Then, of course we have kink.
Aces In Kinky Spaces
Here's the controversial one, loves, but I do ask that you approach this with understanding and compassion~ Not all aces are kinky. But there are a good portion who are. Kink is not always sexual, although it very much can be there are some people who enjoy, for example, "subspace" in BDSM - this is where a submissive reaches a kind of blissful inner peace as a result of being made to submit, their senses brought to focus on bondage, pain, or following orders. It varies from person to person, but it often described as a floaty feeling, freeing, relaxing, deeply satisfying without necessarily including anything sexual at all. Of course, kink can be sexual too, which you will find in a whole lot of my writing, don't think about it too hard darling let me have this one~ This can be helpful for someone not experiencing sexual attraction, but instead finding sex drive and libido from kink instead, allowing them to engage in sexual relationships and activity in a manner they are comfortable with and enjoy. There is also the safety of trust and rules with kink play. So the obvious reminder goes here: Consent is key Safe words and signals are binding and must be instantly respected when used Nobody should be shamed for safe word/signal use Aftercare is important and not optional Negotiation needs to happen before a scenario, not during/after When I write with Raphael, there's almost always the kink angle because he so naturally falls into D/s and Power Play tropes. On the surface you have a very Dominant personality, so it's easy to see him continuing that role in the bedroom. But then there's the other side, Raphael as a sub, not only because of what Haarlep says (and do remember "sub" and "bottom" are not the same thing), but because people who are often in control and making decisions in their daily life find freedom and enjoyment in giving over that control to someone else, not having to worry about anything but enjoying the situation while another takes on all those decisions. So he fits very well with plenty of kinky ace themes, and I quite like that feeling of "he's not just going to get into bed with someone who is pretty, there's going to be a genuine interest and desire there that's beyond the surface, a deeper need and longing for who they are". That's rather nice, honestly.
Aces and Spicy FanWorks
Alright going to draw this in to a close now loves we are running long with this one! FictoSexuals will be more aware of this than most, but fictional characters and works often have more draw because there's a layer of disconnection to it. There's no actual partner with expectations or needs, you can step away from fiction at any moment. You can close the app/browser, scroll past the art, stop reading, save and exit the game - there is complete control in how and when you engage with the content, whether consuming it or making it. So there are a fair few of us, playing around with those fantasies in art and writing, things that are fun and comfortable in our own ways, and I'm grateful that we have this space to do so~ I've met more than one fellow ace in the creative side of fandom and I'm simply never surprised by it. We aren't defined by our attractions, and we are collectively rather talented at this little hobby of ours~ The fun theory there is that when we don't experience much (or any) sexual attraction, we are looking that much closer when writing about it. We don't tend to skip it, we analyse what is attractive, where it comes from, how it might feel, why it feels that way, and that can present itself as deeper and more detailed fictional works. Whether that's in the posing and expressions of visual arts, or in the narration and dialogue of writing, we are paying attention to trying to get it right, whether it's an experience we can ever relate to personally or not.
Alright, Is This Thing Ever Ending?
It really should, you're so right~ Raphael Fandom, and other more niche characters, do have a fair amount of Asexuals for all the reasons above and likely a whole lot more too. I love that for us, and I love talking about it because there is so little Asexual visibility sometimes that people take many many years to even know they're ace because it's simply not an option they're aware of. So hello to all of you who slid down the OverCompensating Bisexual/Pansexual -> Asexual pipeline because you thought "feeling the same way towards any gender" was all that meant and didn't realise "feeling nothing towards any gender" is actually different and its own thing, oops. We're here now, and that's just fine~ Take care, beloved Aces, regardless where you are under the Asexual Umbrella, or what microlabels you wear.
You are valid, seen, heard, and loved.
^ Raphael realising he's not Bi/Pan, he's Ace and owning it, like the king he is. Or perhaps not king... Archduke of Asexuality~
---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ASEXUAL RESOURCES AND MICROLABEL DEFINITIONS ---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Asexual - Experiences little to no sexual attraction Greysexual/Grey Asexual - Experiences limited sexual attraction Demisexual - Only experiences attraction after an emotional bond has formed or knowing the individual well on a personal level Fraysexual - Sexual attraction is brief and does not last once an emotional bond is formed Fictosexual - Experiences sexual attraction towards fictional characters (art, writing, film, games, other media, but not real people) Autosexual - Attraction is towards the self more than to other people Reciprosexual - Only experiences attraction after attraction towards them has been clearly expressed --- This is not a full or comprehensive list of microlabels! Nor should people feel a need to use them. They are there to help us understand ourselves and to relate to others in the community. None have to be strict, and it is perfectly valid for your sexuality to shift during your lifetime for any reason. --- For more information and resources on Asexuality, I strongly recommend seeking out Ace communities, even on places like Reddit, and this website:
For the past days (or weeks) I've been nothing but shipping trash. This is normal for me as I've always been the "shippy person" in the past. Probably not for this fandom and probably not for everyone but we're all acclimating here.
Some of you might find my influence the big "uh oh fandom getting big and we're going to see its downfall" or somethings like that, and while it is true that at paces like these fandoms DO get big, that is a factor that I have no control over, whether or not I am present. Granted you may think otherwise, but I am literally one of many artists and there are others who far more excel the skill at drawing and sluggying than I do. (And even played and finished the game)
I understand raising concerns, but everything that I'm doing so far- NOTHING is against the rules, and I will stand by whatever I'm doing for as long as I keep whatever I create maintained the best I can (and for as long as I'm having fun and doing no harm).
I'm sorry that some of you find it annoying. I'm sorry that shipping discourse can breach places that shouldn't be. Why am I sorry? Well I don't like making people uncomfortable in general and I don't want people to think I'm intentionally ruining the fandom or other negative assumptions.
I draw because I WANT to and the people have the option to ignore or be inspired by me. It is THEIR choice. I'm not seriously forcing the shipping agenda on anyone despite my shenanigans. I'm not shifting the blame on people who breach shipping discussions outside of the art channels (This whole thing is the reason why a shipping thread is created). Believe me when I say that Rain World Shippers aren't going to ruin the game itself because we are just a minority that's only recently had more prominence. We are NOT changing the canon because we KNOW what we are doing will never BE canon. Its all just fanfics and fun stuff.
I strongly feel that since I made this whole thing happen, I want to be sure that there's a line drawn and keep this subfandom maintained. Its easier said than done because of how I'm put on a pedestal and so many eyes are watching me (and that idea continues to give me anxiety seriously you have no idea how much I'm shaking right now), but I'll be really sure that I don't end up like… one of those people.
We, the RW shipping subfandom, will go do our own thing. You, the nonshipping fandom, will go do yours. Let's respect each others' presence despite sharing the same space. That is my biggest wish for the fandom I genuinely enjoy being and making drawings for since day one.
Anyway enough of my weird silly ramblings, have some artihunter.
here's my very all over the place feelings on certain aspects of baldur's gate 3 as a romani immigrant. warnings for spoilers of course. mind you i have not finished the game yet!
1. i really can't believe there aren't more people talking about the very blatant racism in astarion's questline. im quite sure it's because the game already touches on it, even giving you the choice to call astarion a racist, and also because everytime we roma talk about anything that makes us uncomfortable we're immediately shunned and "well actually!"'d.
the problem is that it feels Extra icky because the man who was the inspiration for the original dracula, Vlad the Impaler, kept romani slaves. this is the ONLY part of vampire history that, no matter how different the media, will always stay relevant for some reason.
castlevania has the seekers, a nomadic group of magic users who pass their history down orally. while they are *mostly* treated well, the first arc of the show literally shows them being hunted out of town for the simple act of existing.
vampire the masquerade... well.. that's an entire other can of racism worms.
curse of strahd has the "vistani", a nomadic group of people who are treated like third class citizens everywhere they go, and are of course, most known for being tarot readers and drunkards.
the vampire diaries have the "travellers", who get called "gypsies" explicitly as a derogatory word by other vampires.
i want you to take any vampire media you enjoy and ask yourself, "is there anti-roma racism in this?". i guarantee you, if you look for it, you're going to find it. for SOME reason, the only thing that stays consistent with all these different vampire IPs, is that romani people are hated and scrutinized at every moment of their lives.
i MORE than understand that astarion's racial insensitivity is part of him. it's part of what makes him malleable by the player. you can help him understand why he's wrong, or you can lead him down a worse path.
i still reserve the right to feel some sort of way about astarion sacrificing fantasy-romani children for power, willingly. don't get me wrong, he's my favourite character, right up there with halsin. which is why i obviously have so many feelings about this.
(yes, the Gur were written inspired by romani people, if you were not aware)
2. the anti-immigrant sentiment is such an inherent part of the story that i did not think was going to stick around for SO long. i dont really have much to say about this, i think i should've expected it. as a fan of dragon age (i know, tragic) i'm quite used to unnecessary fantasy racism everywhere i go, i just hoped it wouldn't be part of the main crucial story.
3. larian studios i am so so so thankful for the halsin romance. eternally. forever and ever. he's my pookie bear and i'm so grateful some extra time was made to create a romance for him.
can i ask you why the hell does halsin want to LEAVE. At The End. i've noticed how much he contradicts himself throughout his questline and i just... I don't know. i've seen some other people complaining about how non-chalantly he talks about being a sex slave and i understand too, but i think it's part of his character to not take the horrible things that happened to him seriously like he does with others. that, or someone at larian took an unknown substance that led them to make halsin Very inconsistent.
with the poly situation, some people are strictly polyamorous! some people are strictly non-monogamous and do not feel comfortable being in a monogamous relationship. i understand the frustration everyone, but that's how halsin is. i dont know if that was the writers' intention, but that's certainly what he comes across as to me; strictly non-monogamous.
what i DONT understand is why he says he only wants you, calls you "my heart", is so fondly and lovingly attached to you, and then he just.... Dips? Whatever. I'm ignoring that part forever. it's not canon to ME!
anyways. yeah. feel free to Engage in some Friendly conversation. emphasis on friendly, for the love of g-d
as a camp counselor (technically not currently bc i went home for Illness) and homestuck fan (also technically not currently bc I'm too busy being a camp counselor) i love camp skaia. which homestuck characters are most likely to be the "we're ALL sick there's no reason you can't do the hike up the hill" (has mild cold and vague heatsickness at worst) counselor x "actual lung infection but thinks it's a really normal cold" (very easily gaslit) counselor program group pair? i feel like eridan and kanaya are hot contenders here
ooo ok this is so good- apologies for the ever loving hell that you are about to see but i sought assistance from my dear dear pale friend @marv3l-drag0ns !!!!!!!! MUAH PLATONICALLLY <> ILY they were a huge help in putting this together
BOY DO I HAVE A LOT TO SAY ON THIS, THIS WAS EXTREMELY FUN :D
Tumblr media
so let’s begin: my immediate instinct was kanaya and tavros are the most easily gaslit, or adhere most to given direction (we’re not going to talk about HIM). but then who to pair them with? they are both wet cats that won’t work. we decided that YES kanaya and eridan definitely make sense! but in which role? it may seem obvious but NO! eridan too sick? whiny fussy pitiful sopping kitty he’s just a beanbag full of milk! so we decided barely sick eridan, otherwise he’d be throwing a fit. instead he’s referring to his Superior Genes! and kanaya is. strugglin. but fuck man here we are 🤷‍♂️
But we’re not done yet!
Tumblr media
the next we considered was karkat and terezi!! especially aided through the lens of karkat’s old crush on terezi; he’s too whipped and in denial to deny a girl a hand!
this led to possibly the funniest thing ever: THE INNER KANKRI THAT EVERYONE HAS AND HE SITS ON YOUR SHOULDER AND REMINDS YOU TO BE DECENT AND LEAVE ROOM FOR KANKRI
for the bigger drawings i capped it off with a good ol favorite of mine; erifef. why did i like them? man idek anymore but it worked really well with the idea of eridan being the sicker one, but being ok such thin ice over his constant whining that he just has to go along with it we just though it was funny hehe. it can be viewed through any lens! snippy or non, s’all good here! it’s all canon.
what is he was sick and he couldn’t whine 🥺 what is he was sick and he wasn’t allowed even a snivle about it 🥺 not a snort 🥺 or a sob 🥺 he’s so pathetic !!!! besides, he can’t be out paced by some fuckin kids!!!! HES A GROWN ADULT 16-18 Y/O CAMP COUNSELOR GODDAMNIT!!
MARVEL: “Feferi: ah yes your sickness you have a functioning immune system and are the most dramatic guy on planet earth (only one of those statements is true)” which statement? :) yeah
she doesn’t believe him anymore <333
Ok and that is it for full line art doodles, but!!! i couldn’t resist drawing some more pairs we pondered
Tumblr media
ERIDAN AND KARKAT: omfg so good!! but they would 100% either both be tooooo sick and dead, or they would both be mostly fine
VRISKA AND TAVROS: no. and you know why we’re not doing this one :,( we all instantly knew this one would be here but we are choosing to ignore it im favor of…
TAVROS AND KARKAT: Marvel proposed it and it was very interesting!! i think similar to eridan and karkat, where they’re both dead or both barely sick. no i’m between. aggressive yet positive motivation (?) for the win!!! they further proposed that karkat “eats dirt for a living and doesn’t get sick very often”
Overall this was really fun to put together and answer, and i had a blast getting to colab with a mutual along the way :3 so thank you anon and thank you marvel!! this does bring me to something i’ve been meaning to say,,.,,,
@marv3l-drag0ns ,,? we’ve been friends forever, you know my dogs middle name, we complete each other in a way no one else can! you stop me from eating bones i find on the road, and i stop you from ascending to godtier to avoid going to exams…,…
would you be my
Moirail? <>
anyways! that’s all for now <3 this was so fun :) please send in more asks/ requests like this if you ever think of any more! i definitely feel for the camp counselor piece cause that was me earlier this summer PFF and all the counselors got sick and passed something around (but hey! it was an excuse to sit away from 7 y/olds for a few minutes while i got tea for my sore throat)
// Not Tim Drake friendly
Like idk how to start this but I'll just profess by saying that majority of what I talk about is about his fanon characterisation and if you get offended then in the nicest way possible idgaf
Like why is Tim so fucking infantalized in fanon like some of his fans so obsessed with making him oppressed and a victim when he's not. Its like him in comics canon and him potrayed by fandom by 90% of fics I've read are two totally different person.
He's like a mediocre person in comics at best, I dont like him but I dont mind him either. Also he is written as a misogynist and his treatment of his gfs is abominable but I let it slide cuz maybe it was the writers fault idk
But the way fans potray him to be this holier than thou- never doing anything wrong and smartest robin (cue eyeroll) is wild and wholey inaccurate cuz like he's not. Canonically they're all similar iq and they're all trained by a detective so they're quite good at it, Dick was a mathelete and Jason had solid GPA of 94.8 and Tim dropped out of school to search for Bruce. He is tech savvy and good at computers but he's not the only one from the batfamily to be that is he, I'd say Barbara is the best at that but don't forget Dick used to be a hacker too like I've seen some of yall treat him as this one dimensional sunshine person who has eldest daughter syndrome but like he also has temper and he's clever and sharp and if I'm not wrong he even as degree in Business in main dc universe but that's besides the point
Also headcanoning him as asian feels weird and very playing into stereotype of asians being this super smart people (when there's no proof he's anything but white in canon)
Fanon also for some strange reasons hold on to Jason and Damian trying to kill him and saying how much it would have caused him trauma while completely removing him from the scene except for that scenario. Let me explain for example Damian trying to kill him where they forget the instigator of some are Tim too like he was legit 17 yr old beefing with 10 yr old bffr, did we also collectively ignore him putting the same 10 yr old on a hitlist like... yall act like this was a buffet and you can pick and choose but the thing is that you can pick and choose what to accept from canon but if you're picking Tim being attacked by Dami then maybe mention what he did too instead of victimizing him
Just kinda throwing it in here cuz we're talking about it, Dick didnt fire Tim from Robin because of bad faith, I'm pretty sure it was Alfred who gave Damian the Robin suit first but Dick didnt want Tim to be Robin because Dick saw Tim as an equal rather than a sidekick.
Also the big deal of Jason's attack on Titans Tower irks me a little but like pls remember that Jason made a last minute decision to go there and just beat the shit out of Tim and that's it and it wasnt nice of him to do that but I support his wrongs too
Since we're talking about Titans Tower fics anyways I also find it incredibly peculiar that writers (fanfic) potray him much younger than he was like Tim was 17 during UTRH and around 19 during Teen Titans #29
(Also pretty sure like 99.9% sure that Jason calling Tim 'Replacement' also came from fanon and it was from j*yt*m shippers so like 😵‍💫,, although Jason did call him 'Pretender' in Batman Hush a few times)
(Also highjacking this to talk about Pit madness cuz for some reason there are too many fics about it so like please remember that pit madness and the extent of it is just a fanon thing there is no proof of it happening for more than 5 mintues in canon and Jason was not the only one besides Ra's to use it but Cassandra has also been in the pit... So like yeah Jason did some fucked up shit post resurrection and he did it willingly no supernatural green pool was involved and its ok ❤️, like let him be his own person)
That went majorly off tangent,,, anyways also Tim was never abused physically or otherwise by his parents, they neglected him and child abandonment too for sure (ALSOOOO He spent more thanhalf of his school life in boarding school so it probably won't count as child abandonment but I dont know if its canon to main universe so I'm just putting it out there)
Adding to that is a fanfic issue that is around the potrayal of him in fics where Jason didnt die or wouldn't die and Tim joined the family early, most of those are pretty harmless and wholesome and this is not the critique of those writers so don't take personally but idk how it got so polarising and popular that Tim was a tiny kid and when he and Jason met younger (most fics I've read were from 3rd pov or Jason's pov) and in most of them it is stated that Tim is smaller for his age and Jason mistakes him for a younger age which just doesnt make sense. Like it would be one thing for someone else like Dick or Bruce to make that assumption and entirely different for Jason cuz CANONICALLY Jason was shorter at 15 than Tim was at 13 and it makes sense cuz Jason was malnourished which resulted in stunted growth rate, so like you're telling me that Jason at 15 saw 13 year old Tim and assumed he was 9 like it just doesnt make sense to me
And look this may be seen as nitpicks (and it probably is) but if it was in smaller quantity it could be ignorable but its everywhere and my patience is not endless and I'm fucking tired of him.
Also just to throw that in that all the bulleted points while in themselves alone may seem annoying but harmless, arent all of them together as fanon perception of him just infantalising him overall like its not they're true or anything...
Like lets be real Tim was just a blatant robin self insert, he was 13 when he went to a grieving father whos son was recently murdered and basically blackmailed him into making him robin cuz he thought "Batman needs a Robin" like dude you're 13... also can you imagine how Bruce must have felt in situation like but I dont think blaming Tim for this is right cuz he was a child and he didn't know better
Glorifying a white, rich (because yes he was rich enough to be neighbours with Wayne) character and demeaning and villanising a person of color and a dead poor person (cant keep track of how many times there's implied or outright said that Jason's death is his fault and how Tim's much smarter than Jason and better than him despite having no street smarts on him and being a trust fund baby)
Howevere, it'll be incredibly in poor taste to say that those weren't rooted in racism and classism [because they were] and its not Tim's fault his writers were disgusting but it is furthered and accepted and preached in fanon so like that's no excuse imo
Also if we include him with Robins he is not that special like he dont stick out ... and he terribly lacks any creativity and imagination like he took the mantle of robin and then red robin which like he didnt think through.
And like I'm not dismissing his trauma from attempts on his death but he was robin for 3-4 years before Jason tried to kill him I'm plenty sure he's used to his life being in danger comes with job description and if he didnt want that.. well nobody asked him he served himself on silver platter to be traumatised so yeah
So yeah fanon tim is my number one enemy and idc about him in canon and if you disagree with this please make your own post
This was a long vent of a short(lmao) list of just things that bother me
Okay I am loving your takes so much while I am not a huge fan of Misako and Wu what you said made me think about a few things I'm still not a fan of them buuuut I don't think I dislike Misako as much and I also agreed with your take with the whole Nya Cole Jay thing anyways that's besides the point!!! How would Wu and the rest of the family Garmadon Misako & Lloyd react to Morro liking Kai?
Thank you for saying that, I greatly appreciate it! I get that Wusako isn't everyone's cup of tea, so no worries fam! I haven't been able to really explain my "takes" on a lot of the canon ships before, so it's nice to know my thoughts are being well received lol
NOW AS FOR THE DESTINYSHIPPING MOTHERFUCKERS -
Okay if you're a regular on my blog you probably know I have a million different ways that Destiny can become canon. Beyond that, there's a mullion different ways Morro actually joins the team in the first place. Morro takes Wu's hand. Morro comes back on the day of the Departed. Morro never actually leaves Wu's monastery (but we're ignoring that one for the sake of Destiny)
It's no secret that Kai probably hates Morro the most. He was the most relentless when it came to fighting him, trying to get Lloyd back, et cetera. Even during the Day of the Departed, he's the only one other than Lloyd who actually addresses him, ready to fight. So naturally, when setting up Destiny as a couple, you need to get over that barrier.
Morro joining the team under any circumstances is weird. One, he and Lloyd obviously aren't going to get along. Two, he might not even want to be a ninja. Three, he may not even fit into the group at all. Because of the way the characters are written, I think that if Wu gave Morro the chance of redemption, and Morro actually took it, the team would accept it and him. They stood down when Wu told them to, so it's not unrealistic that they'd trust him - after some protesting - that Morro wouldn't hurt them.
Except for Kai. Kai didn't trust Garmadon in season one, and that was Lloyd's father. Why would he ever trust Morro? Eventually everyone moves past not trusting Morro, if only because they're so annoyed by him and Kai fighting all the time. Even Lloyd I think would want Kai to give Morro a chance. It wouldn't be until either they're united against a common enemy, or until they're forced to see each other beyond their surface level traits, that they'd even be friends. However, I think that the second both Kai and Morro get past their animosity, they're bound to get together. Completely inseparable.
As for the reactions? WELL BABY LET ME TELL YOU -
Wu: He's extremely grateful that they've stopped fighting. Wu will never stop seeing Morro as a son either, so he's happy that he's giving himself the chance to be truly happy with someone. Of course, he gives Kai the stereotypical threat of "you hurt my son I hurt your face" but he's very supportive
Garmadon: Depending on which Garmadon we're talking about here. Evil Garmadon couldn't care less, he's not involved with their teenage shenanigans. Good Garmadon, however, would be concerned. I think he'd want to treat with Morro with respect, given that he's Wu's adopted child, but Morro still hurt his baby. He's always going to be biased against him. Not that Kai is Garmadon's favorite or anything, but he's still a little protective. Regardless, he doesn't voice his concerns to either of them, instead showing support, even if he's skeptical of their pairing.
Misako: I feel like she'd be in the same boat as Wu - relieved that they're not fighting, and that they're both happy. Misako isn't super close with either boy, so she's not as protective, but they're both part of her family, and she's always glad to see people overcoming their differences.
Lloyd: Now Lloyd is the trickiest, because he can either be their biggest cheerleader, or their biggest opposer. It depends on whether or not Lloyd's actually forgiven Morro, how he'll react. If he has, then sure enough he was right with Wu, trying to encourage Kai to stop picking fights, and was glad to find out they actually care about each other. If he hasn't forgiven Morro, however, then it's gonna be all too easy for him to get reasonably upset. Kai is supposed to be his brother - to protect him, and he goes and starts kissing the ghost that forced him to fight his friends??? Lloyd would get bitter fast in that case, and though he'd try to keep his feelings out of the fight, he'd slip up occasionally, and until he resolved things with both Kai and Morro, it would cost the team a lot. Lloyd's understanding and kindness is underestimated a lot; he tries to see the best in even the worst of people, and if you make an effort to do the right thing, he'll notice it. That being said, this is still the same kid who opened three serpentine tombs because he couldn't have some candy. Lloyd's ability to hold a grudge is strong, even turning him against his father at one point, but in the end he always comes around when he realizes the cost of his anger and acting on it isn't worth the consequences
Tonight I came across a post (that won't hit my blog until July because I queued it) about how it's unfortunate that "fun" has supposedly become a requirement of video games, given that this severely limits how they can function as works of art. We don't limit other mediums by insisting that they only produce positive emotions and experiences in the recipient, so why would video games be any different just because they're (more) interactive?
This post isn't actually about video games, but rather how that argument got me thinking about RWBY and the recent resurgence of this "Why are you still here if you hate the show?" question. Now, setting aside the acknowledgment that 99.9% of people asking that are merely trolling behind their faux-concern—they have no actual interest in hearing a RWDE poster's reasons for sticking around, they simply want a way to say, "Get out" with plausible deniability—but if we treat this question seriously, I think that post on video games may offer some insight. I have numerous reasons for keeping active in the RWBY/RWDE fandom (initial love of the show, intellectual exercises, the community we've made, etc.) but there is also some level of investment in what would traditionally be framed as non-positive emotions. RWBY can make me feel very frustrated... similar to how playing Pathalogic makes me frustrated. Many of its plot-lines make me angry... the same way numerous video games' discriminatory writing can make me angry. RWBY's community, at times, feels like an insult-laden battlefield... but I've been doing PvP in WoW since it came out, so that's familiar too.
There are so many times when I've enjoyed engaging with a piece of media even when I really didn't enjoy it. Perhaps a better way of putting it would be that I found something worthwhile in the experience, even if I couldn't label that as "fun" or "happiness" or "satisfaction." Sometimes sitting with negative emotions is a good thing. Yes, you can take that too far just like you can take any behavior to an extreme, which is where the continual demands to "watch another show" highlight those posters' willful ignorance. We're already watching other shows. Reading other books. Playing other games. Engaging with a huge, diverse variety of art. Those who gain their own enjoyment from targeting strangers online (and isn't that a significant aspect to all this) want to make it sound like RWDE posters haven't touched a single piece of art other than RWBY in ten years and if they just found something they enjoyed without reservations then they'd drop RWBY like a hot potato. But I'm already watching numerous shows that I love unconditionally and have nothing substantial to critique; shows that have me internally kicking my feet and twirling my hair because they're just sooooooo good. I have that! RWBY is a different experience. It scratches a very specific itch of "I once adored this thing and now it's disappointing, but I want to see it through to its end and unpacking the ways in which it fails is a fascinating, cathartic mental exercise." I can't get that from anything else—not right now, anyway—so why would I want to give up this unique experience to fill my time solely with art that only makes me feel Generically Good? Art I have little to say about because it already feels #perfect to my mind? Sure, I could analyze a show's positives and sing its praises (which I often do), but at a certain point you run of out ways to say, "I like it." There's a reason why transformative fandom is built around the gaps in media: missing scenes, plot holes, retcons, failures, missed opportunities, horrible disappointments. Transformation comes more easily when you're already inclined to change the canon in the first place.
Idk, I feel like there's also an element of purity culture here where there's this push to make people think they must only engage with art that aligns precisely with their moral stance, produces only positive emotions, and invites nothing but praise. If the art makes you feel bad in any way than it is bad and you have a duty to remove yourself from it post-haste just ignore that we wanted you gone the whole time. Frankly, I think we humans can handle a bit more complexity than that? Obviously, as said, you wouldn't want to make Art You're Upset With the be-all and end-all of your media engagement, and this certainly isn't a call for anyone to engage with triggers unless they're inclined to do so, but a story you're primarily here to critique, or—yes—even a bit of hate watching can be "fun" in a non-traditionally fun away. Just because the art hasn't made you grin and pump your fist in triumphant doesn't mean it's not worth interacting with as art.
hola amiga.
que piensas del arem de Boruto.? Confirmamos ya que mitzuki está enamorado de el sol. Hacia donde navegará el barco en la final?
We're definitely seeing BoruMitsu pretty much confirmed to be at the very least semi canon, its ironic that the anime put all that needless time and effort into the Mitsuki disappearance arc only for it to mean nothing in the manga because Mitsuki is actually going through that exact arc in the manga right now, meaning that anime arc was a complete waste of time and totally irrelevant now, and now it'll have to be retconned in the anime because Mitsuki is supposed to of had this development already, so my guess is their either gonna retcon it and pretend it never happened or their gonna change this situation entirely to fit the anime timeline they set where Mitsuki is actually already sure what his feelings are and what the sun is for him, the only thing left for him to realize anime wise would be his romantic feelings, but in the manga he still doesnt even understand his own identity or what the sun even is to him and is only just now starting to finally address and confront it and do some soul searching.
So where do I see things headed? well first is started here in 69 where Mitsuki first mentions ones true feelings being hard to tell, many thought he was speaking about Sarada, but he was really talking about himself and questioning what his own true feelings are, this is why he asked Sarada about hers to try and figure his out through her, but when she denied it that left him still confused about himself, which is why he stayed silent when Sarada mentioned his eyes lighting up whenever it comes to Boruto, because he himself was unsure of his true feelings.
In 88 Mitsuki is now starting to come to that realization he was lacking before, he hasnt gotten the answer yet, but he is finally willing to question what he's been ignoring all this time, after meeting Boruto again 3 years later, Mitsuki is realizing who his sun is and what the sun truly means to him. He pretty much confirmed hes inlove with Boruto in his conversation with Ada, but HE hasnt figured that out yet, we the audience have, but Mitsuki hasnt yet.
So 69 laid the groundwork for Mitsuki not knowing his own true feelings, 88 laid the groundwork for Mitsuki starting to understand what his true feelings are, now all thats left is for Mitsuki to finally put all the pieces together and realize he loves Boruto.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I cant speak too much on Boruto's behalf just yet but what I can say is Boruto reciprocating Mitsuki's affections as much as he does says alot, you see the stark contrast between how Kawaki treats him and Boruto.
Boruto could've easily rejected Mitsuki's whole sun and moon obsession with him, he didnt have to accept Mitsuki at all, yet he not only embraced Mitsuki, but those titles too. He tells Mitsuki that he is his sun, he could've just said he's his friend or hes really the Hokage's son, but no, he specifically tells Mitsuki that he's his sun, that he knows he realized long ago that Kawaki isnt his sun, that Kawaki cant illuminate him no matter how close he sticks to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only that, but he tells him that he believes he can shine just fine on his own, but if he insists on needing a sun then to come find him anytime. That is pretty clear and strong reciprocation, not saying its proof Boruto likes Mitsuki romantically, but it does imply that hes not particularly opposed to it either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He respects Mitsuki, cares for Mitsuki, wants to protect Mitsuki, doesnt mind Mitsuki hanging around or sticking close to him, doesnt mind being the sun to his moon, is willing to be Mitsuki's light even though he thinks he shines just fine on his own, he's willing to be that for him anyway if thats what HE wants
Yea, I aint sayin its definitive, but there is some really strong implications there that cannot be ignored.
Kodachi did say in an old interview before he stepped down as writer than he doesnt mind including LGBTQ characters and that for him he doesnt feel like it has to be something heavily focused on but just be a natural progression where its not in your face but you still get the picture, which I believe might end up bein the case for BoruMitsu, even if they arent canon in the end, at the very least their feelings will be.
I hope you’re including Aoko because I really like their interactions would really if the admiration wasn’t just one sided.
Okay So this one is gonna get weird. And there's going to be a lot more stuff that feels like guesswork here. Even though Aoko and Hakuba are native to the same story, we don't really see them interact much, at least not in super meaningful ways.
Anyway, I'm going to start by saying Aoko is smart. She's often put into a position where she's the butt of a joke or playing the fool, but she is established from the beginning to be very intelligent, at the very least she's shown to be able to keep up with Kaito academically.
So time for another headcanon with barely any substantiation- their class is an advanced class. After all we already know that Aoko and Kaito are both very smart, and Hakuba is also smart and was very intentionally transferred into their class.
But more on the relationship between Aoko and Hakuba.
To begin with Aoko is a fan of Hakuba, but mostly just on a shallow level, she doesn't give off the impression of having been a fan for a long time, but she is interested enough after seeing him on tv to start quoting his catch phrases (which changes a bit depending on what we're taking as canon, with it being "Why did you do it?" in the original manga, and "the truth has come to light" in the 1412 anime).
Despite this in their first actual interaction she's not all that excited when he flirts with her- talking with her friend later she doesn't even really acknowledge that she was asked on a date, just that if Hakuba wins the bet she'd be going to a concert with him. And I'd like to think that her reaction is that way because she saw the original offer for what it was- not a legitimate attempt to woo her but rather just a move to rile up Kaito.
Every move that Hakuba makes in that introductory chapter is directed at Kaito, but that doesn't mean he's just ignoring Aoko. Perhaps this is me having an idyllic view of him, but I think he's very empathetic; he sees Aoko and he sees that she's like him in that she's kind of forced into the shadow of her father, he sees her interaction with Kaito and is able to understand that she wants to go with Kaito but with the way things were playing out Kaito was going to get away with acting like he didn't care... and that would have only hurt Aoko. So what does he do? He interferes; he puts himself in the villain role and shows Kaito 'if you don't care about her then sooner or later someone will come along that does', and he does it this way for the dual purpose of antagonizing Kaito (who he already suspects may be Kid) and also trying to help Aoko. And during the heist he takes it very seriously, commiting to the bit as it were. Did I explain that last point well? I don't think so. Is it a bit of a stretch? Absolutely. Do I care? Not really. This is how I see it.
The next time Hakuba is taking the stage (A Gift from Akako) he's also very much focused on Kaito not Aoko, which makes sense, Magic Kaito is Kaito's story after all so of course we really only ever see Hakuba and Aoko interact when it's serving Kaito's narrative.
But what we do start to see is Aoko and Hakuba seeming to get along well in just a casual way. Additionally in that case there's a clear change in Aoko, previously she's always stayed on the sidelines just waiting to hear the news of results, but this time she actually requests to come along to help catch Kid- and I would like to claim that the one responsible for this change in her is Hakuba. Perhaps she sees that Hakuba is inviting Kaito and opens up the idea that she can be there too, or maybe she thinks that if the son of a police superintendent can be there then the daughter of the inspector on site can be there, or maybe she has an inkling of Kaito's identity and is coming along to help... whatever it is the one that gave her the push is Hakuba, and after that heist she starts showing up at them more regularly.
The two are both present again for the Dark Knight heist, but unfortunately they don't even so much as look at each other, so no notable interactions there... Which brings us to Midnight Crow.
When Akako and Hakuba are both approaching Kaito with their own thinly veiled 'hey I know you're Kid, good luck, I'm actually rooting for you here' bits, Aoko comes up and once again plays the fool changing the flow of the conversation and- doing almost the exact same thing they were by giving Kaito the exact information that he needed through a barely connected anecdote. (Yes I think that at this point Aoko also knows, and just is fully acting oblivious.) And that's all she does in Midnight Crow in the manga, however, in the 1412 anime there's a bit more; she also forms a detective team "to catch Kid", that motive ringing somewhat hollow when she herself said that she was on neither side, and Hakuba admits that he's relieved that Kid didn't lose. The purpose of this team doesn't really seem like it's genuinely to catch Kid but rather Aoko making an excuse for the four of them to be able to talk directly about Kid without there being any suspicions. Then once again they're both present in Sun Halo but don't interact with each other at all.
So what does all of this tell us? They're friends. In a very normal way.
Aoko seems to respect Hakuba's skill. Early on she bonds with him over their mutual distaste for Kid, but overtime that changes and they still care a lot about each other without needing there to be an undercurrent of aggression directed at Kid in order for them to see eye to eye. And Hakuba for his part clearly enjoys spending time with her. And absolutely cares about her feelings given that even though he knows Kaito is Kid he never tries to tell Aoko that, not wanting to to potentially hurt her.
And that's about the gist of it. This one kinda feels like I'm saying a lot of words but not really expressing much... a lot less focused than the other rambles I've done so far but eh.... it's a less focused topic. When I try to simplify things down to the facts of what we see- well these two barely even interact with one another, but even so the vibe is that they're friends, which is good because I get the feeling that Hakuba doesn't really have many of those. Anyway.
There is one more thing that I want to bring up about the connections between Aoko and Hakuba, and for that I'm going to talk about Nonchalant Lupin.
Nonchalant Lupin being the sort of one-shot/prototype that got polished and eventually evolved into Magic Kaito. I'd recommend reading it if you haven't but for now I'm gonna give the cliff notes version just in case.
The one shot stars Lupin Kaito a young magician that steals for monetary gain, Holmes Aoko the kind hearted and self sacrificing detective love interest, and the antagonist Gurikouji Ken who is the son of a mob family who blackmails Aoko into marrying him using pictures taken of Kaito in the act of stealing.
Now obviously Lupin Kaito became Kuroba Kaito, and Holmes Aoko became Nakamori Aoko. And a lot of people would say that Ken is the prototype Hakuba, which I think there is some truth to that, but not the whole story- because I instead propose that both Holmes Aoko and Gurikouji Ken were the bases for Hakuba.
Nakamori Aoko got Holmes's role as childhood friend and love interest, and Hakuba actually got the role of detective and the morality from Holmes while taking an aggressive approach and cocky confidence from Ken. Not that Holmes is cleanly split up between the two of them, but even so I like to think that the Aoko and Hakuba we know were at least in part cut from the same cloth, and that's why even though we barely ever see them interact they do genuinely fit well together in a way that just feels correct.
Does that make sense to anyone but me? Who knows.
It’s fully possible that after reckless/i like it you’ve had quite enough canon Andrew pov, in which case, ignore me, but I’m obsessed with Andrew’s reaction to Neil being grabbed by Ichirou. Like the little hint that he might have ended up in the construction site and disappeared so Andrew never knew for sure what happened, but all you get from Neil pov is Andrew not speaking very much. Anyway, I wondered if you maybe had thoughts?
Your wish = my command. It's like more than a year later but I hope it was worth it!!
Please note that all dialogue was taken directly from The King's Men.
-------
"Hello, Jean," Neil said.
"Go away. I have nothing to say to you." Jean sounded about how he looked. Considering he looked like he'd been on the losing end of a disagreement with a small truck, Andrew had to at least appreciate the thick layer of spite Jean had lathered atop his misery.
"But you'll listen," Neil said, "because I just told Ichirou where you are."
What the actual, absolute fuck. Beneath the bruises, Jean's pallor had gone a gray shading on green. Kevin had stopped breathing altogether - and Andrew had to trust that he eventually started up again because as Neil started to explain his encounter with the freshly minted crime lord his attention was otherwise engaged.
Because Neil had gotten into a car with Ichirou Moriyama. Then he had fucking bartered with him.
"It's not a pardon and it's not really freedom, but it's protection," Neil summed up. Andrew had the impulse to wrap his fingers around Neil's throat, to throttle him for being such a spectacular idiot. Thankfully for Neil, sobriety had done wonders for Andrew's impulse control.
Perhaps not quite enough, depending on who you asked, but wonders nonetheless.
"We're assets for the main family now," Neil continued. "The King's lost all his men and there's nothing he can do about it without crossing his brother. We're safe—for good." There was something to be said for the steady vehemence in Neil's voice, the bite when he stated Riko's loss so clearly, the relief that tightened his throat around the word 'safe'.
There was something to be said, but Andrew wouldn't say it. Couldn't. Not even if he wanted to. His brain was still so caught up on the dissonance of the event itself that he couldn't find any sanctuary in the resolution.
He had just gotten Neil back. He had just come back. Beaten and bloody and clinging to the concept of his own identity, Neil had come back and it was supposed to be over.
Except, Andrew knew that wasn't the case. The Moriyamas were involved, so of course it wasn't over. He'd let his relief corrupt him into a false sense of security, and he was almost as pissed off with himself about that as he was with Neil for getting into that fucking car.
Andrew tore his stare away from Neil to the broken birdy on the bed when it made a choked sound only slightly muffled by the press of its hands. Jean. Andrew did not like that he was here, did not like that he had a connection with Kevin, and did not appreciate whatever the fuck was going on with him and Renee. He didn't give a shit what Neil or Kevin attempted to pull, but Andrew drew the line. He already had two numbered exy-complexes to keep track of and he had zero interest in acquiring a third.
Apparently, the conversation was over, because after a long moment of anxious silence perforated by the sharp sounds of Jean's nervous breakdown, Neil slid off the bed and turned toward the door. Thank fuck.
Andrew was closer, so he opened the door and stepped out, then kept walking down the hall with every intention of walking right out the front door to have a cigarette. This shit called for nicotine.
He paused, however, at the light tug of Neil's fingers on his sleeve.
Andrew turned around and studied him for a moment. "How does it feel to sell yourself out?" he asked. He wondered if it had been a difficult decision -- giving up every possibility of taking off ever again. By handing himself over to the Moriyamas like this, Neil was locked in. If he tried to run, tried to become the ghost he was before he joined the Foxes, he wouldn't make it as far as the border before all there was left were bones.
But Neil seemed... unbothered.
"Worth every penny," he said, and Andrew could feel the truth in those words, see it in the set of Neil's shoulders. "Let him have however much he wants. I don't need the money. All I need is what he gave me: a promise that I have a future. I have permission—no, orders—to live my life how I want to. I'm going to graduate from Palmetto State in four more years and play Exy until they force me to retire. Maybe I'll even die of old age."
Andrew almost -- almost -- wanted to laugh. "You sound more like them every day," Andrew said, thinking of how desperately each of the Foxes, including Nicky and Aaron, wanted to claw their way toward normalcy, something he had personally long since given up on.
But Neil didn't take the bait. Instead, he looked him right in the eye and pushed.
"You're going to have to come up with something of your own to hold onto," he said, and Andrew felt the muscles in his face twitch and tense in the direction of a scowl. "I'm safe, Kevin doesn't need your protection anymore, Nicky's going back to Erik eventually, and Aaron's got Katelyn. What are you going to live for if you're not playing sheepdog for us?"
"Aaron doesn't have Katelyn," Andrew snapped before he could help himself, clinging onto the one part of that litany that he had any sort of fucking control over. The one part that unsettled him the least.
"Denial doesn't suit you. We talked about this." Asshole. Why was Andrew always finding himself drawn to the pretty fucking assholes.
"You talked," Andrew said. "I didn't listen." If he were still drugged to high heaven, he probably would have stuck his fingers in his ears and started singing 'lalala I can't hear you!' that was how much he did not want to have this conversation. Instead, he prepared to turn and walk away, hopefully driving the point home that he didn't want to listen to whatever the fuck his stupid junkie was getting at.
But then Neil said, "Choose us."
Choose us.
Andrew stopped, his mouth thinning into a hard line, and attempted to grab the tangled mess of fuckery inside his chest and shove it back down into the pit it started to chisel its way out of probably the very instant he swung that stupid yellow racquet and downed Neil when he first tried to run.
"Kevin's going to retake his spot on Court before he graduates," Neil was saying. He stepped closer, and Andrew noticed that the other man's hand was still clutching at his sleeve. "He thinks I can make the cut with enough practice and time. Come with us. Let's all play in the Olympics together one day. We'd be unstoppable."
It would be an easy thing, to turn this conversation (if that's even what this was) back around and make it a part of Neil's exy fixation. But Neil hadn't said 'play exy'.
He'd said 'choose us'.
He'd said 'come with us'.
A clawed hand broke free from the struggle inside his chest and managed to reach high enough to tighten his throat before he swallowed it back down.
"That's your obsession, not mine," he hissed - and he wondered if his voice sounded rough to Neil's ears too, or if it was a tension only detectable to himself.
"Borrow it until you have something of your own." Neil's grip tightened on Andrew's sleeve when Andrew took a step back and started to pull away. Because fuck this. Fuck him. Fuck all of them. That wasn't how this worked. There was no borrowing, and there was no us. Not unless there was something Andrew had that someone else wanted, and as Neil just said -- Kevin didn't need him anymore, and Neil was finally safe.
So why was Neil still holding on? Why was he still talking? Why was he looking at Andrew like he wanted him to... stay?
"Isn't any of this fun?" Neil asked. "Having a place, having a team, a different city every week and cigarettes and drinks in-between? I don't want this to end."
Andrew jerked his arm and this time his sleeve came free from Neil's tattered grasp. "Everything ends," he ground out -- though whether he was trying to tell Neil this fundamental truth or desperately trying to remind himself, he didn't know. Nor was he at all inclined to stand here and figure it out.
Instead, he took the small box he'd been holding and shoved it against Neil's chest until Neil reflexively lifted a hand to catch it. Then, before he could watch as that... that insufferable menace opened it, he turned and walked away.
He told himself that Neil was being stupid and naive and that he was wrong. That he - Andrew - knew how the worked and what Neil was saying wasn't possible, that Andrew didn't even want it to be possible.
And yet... and yet.
And yet, a part of him had to acknowledge that despite everything he had seen and done and said, despite everything he knew of the world... he wanted it too. Which was the other reason he absolutely could not stay in the hall as Neil opened the package Andrew had shoved at him. He may call Neil an idiot half the time, but Andrew knew that Neil wasn't stupid. He would open the package and when he pulled out the arm bands that Andrew had bought for him... he'd know the truth of what Andrew wanted. He'd know the truth that Andrew wanted.
Which... maybe wasn't a horrible thing, but it didn't mean Andrew had to like it.
Hi lele just wanna drop a lil vent AND need YOUR opinion on it please if you would be so kind♡ tq
I hate western fandom so much like even god can't help them!
Ok so i shipped satosugu and itafushi (♡♡) but now this western fans are screaming crying blah blah saying its canon when its NOT
Ok i understand about itafushi cus gege has implied it as well but nothing about satosugu has been said has it? It was just a mistranslation for godsake
All these western ppl started screaming satosugu canon after the director said some ship stuff but that SO does NOT make it official now does it?
I mean even the director of bleach has officially admitted that the anime was kinda biased and towards ichiruki than the ichihime that was later CANON by the MANGAKA himself
Im east asian and i speak and write Japanese well (its my first languag) and so i have always been reading manga first and then watching the anime. And i, as a manga reader, noticed the difference and so many things that were indeed ichiruki but thats not what im saying
Cmon are you getting me lele?! Im not trying to spread hate i just want the western fans to know not to cry wolf unless its OFFICIALLY confirmed or such
Just because THEY WANT to make a ship canon thru some half assed opinions does not mean they would pressurized or shame others who do not get on board on their not canon but i say its canon so its canon train
I really liked satosugu because i though it was cute but now i don't cus the western fandom made it so toxic
I told them that the official manga that is in Japanese language says something else (that my one and only thing) they literally all hounded on me, bullied me online for being a 'homophobe'? Like why? I have a girlfriend for around 3yrs now haha 😂 (im a girl)
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY IM SORRY LELE FOR WASTING YOUR TIME BUT I JUST want WHAT IS YOUR OPINION please
Thank you very much
Have a wonderful day
Uh, yeah. So it's finally time that I came clear. I once said that I have a ship that I barely tolerate, so.... that NOTP is none other than stsg. I recently block the ship tag here in tumblr, actually. So now that I said this, stsg fans, you're very welcome to block me.
I'll put the rest of my answer under the cut in consideration for the ship fans, since this is definitely not for the fans. Don't say I didn't warn you if you're one of the fans and still continue to read and then get offended
Honestly, this is a thing that has been happening since several months ago. I don't know exactly why, but the western stsg fandom got very loud - to the point that I, who usually can tolerate many things including pairings that I don't ship, became unable to ignore it. Fans today really likes to throw words like "canon" and easily verbally attack people who don't agree.
Anyway, even if Director Park said it, it doesn't really make it actually canon. I still remember Nakata Jouji (I love the man, he's my favorite priest in Fate series), the seiyuu for Naobito, said that Naobito is Maki's father, which later written by Gege to be untrue. Ougi is Maki's actual father. So, unless Gege writes or says it directly, what other people (even staffs) can only be considered as a speculation; since it's their interpretation of the characters, just like we fans do.
It's just when related to a ship, fans always get loud. Remember viz's mistranslation "my one and only" lol? I have long thought since the volume came out that the stsg fans will take it and run with it. And this is just a personal theory, but the loudest one are the one with the smallest crumbs. Itfs is still fed today by gege so we're just content day to day, but stsg currently has nothing in the manga so they get really loud when the smallest crumb drops. It'll pass if you wait, just stay calm lol.
So my intolerance does not come from the ship itself, but from the fans, so yeah. Same, anon, same.
Don't you find it a bit hypocritical to be preaching the respect of celibacy/asexuality/sexual and romantic disinterest of characters from - let's be honest here, a fantasy adventure novel that was quite biased towards the theology of Buddhism versus Dao/Taoism and not religious text or scripture as you seem to imply, where romance and sex weren't the focus to begin with so weren't going to be focused on anyway in any character driven narrative.
When you yourself are head-canoning/playing out your own romantic views on characters who - despite their marked difference from the source material - also have given no canonical showing of romantic or sexual interest in others?
Ohhh boom, professor, you totally burned me. Oh how will I ever recover? /s Look kid, you clearly think having a keyboard and an internet connection means you're some kind of high-and-mighty literati with an IQ the rest of us can't even comprehend, but I'll try to break this down for you:
Romance and sex are major points within Journey to the West, specifically abstaining from them. Zhu Bajie's biggest struggle is in not chasing after women every five seconds. It's what his whole arc is based around.
Not only that, but the Tang Priest himself was nearly raped and was sexually harassed several times throughout Journey to the West by several female demons. So what do you mean "romance and sex weren't a focus to begin with"?
The entirety of JTTW is about Buddhist principles and the path to enlightenment, and part of that is abstaining from worldly pleasures, the most dangerous of which being sex or getting married.
And to get to that second point you must have been so proud of yourself for typing: Lego Monke Kid is a children's cartoon that's clearly adventure-focused. They're not going to spend time showcasing every single character's romantic/sexual preferences. We can make inferences based on what the writer's Tweet or hint at in their show, but to expect them to outright display their preferences when extremely popular LGBTQ+ kid shows like Steven Universe and Owl House have been cancelled for doing less is downright foolish and shows just how ignorant you are.
Some of those tweets, by the by, have included creators lamenting that they can't make SpicyNoodles canon. Pigsy and Tang have already been as close as they can be to a canon MLM couple without saying "We're gay and in love". By "canonical showing", I think you mean you're one of those people that thinks if the characters don't do exactly that you refuse to count it as canon. If any of the characters were confirmed by the creators (onscreen or off) to be aromantic or not interested in romance, I would not write for them. LMK is already severely inaccurate with writers intent on distorting basic historical facts, and not only that it's not meant to be taken as part of the Buddhist mythos.
That's like saying Hercules is part of Roman mythos (or if we go with the inaccuracies- Greek mythos). "As I seem to imply"? Well, smartass, have an excerpt from china.usc.edu (and, as I'm certain you need pointed out, that .edu means it's from a verified educational source):
Tumblr media
A strong background in Chinese folk RELIGION.
Because you need everything spelled out for you...my grief was with people who take the Buddha himself Sun Wukong and try to erase the fact that he is celibate, and that as a Buddha he continues to be celibate. Doing otherwise would show a lust for earthly connections, something all Buddhas are meant to shed and all enlightened beings have shed.
Every story in the Bible is just that- a story. The same for things relating to the Greek, Roman, and Norse gods. However, you don't seem to be dogging after them for being "fantasy stories", hmm? I suggest you take a look at your biases.
The overall point: JTTW shows us the origins of two Buddhas, an arhat, and a Celestial Immortal while also showing us lore relating to other gods. LMK is a kid's cartoon that doesn't even get the fundamentals right and is out-and-out fiction. If I were writing for Sun Wukong the Victorious Fighting Buddha, I can assure you it wouldn't be within the context of a yandere blog. But I'm not, I'm writing for the goofy children's show Sun Wukong that's so inaccurate I feel no qualms about calling him a character and writing scenarios where he gives the reader a kiss.
Five Runs: Run 5 - Home (The Mandalorian, E)
Title: Five Runs: Run 5 - Home
Series: Part three of Creed, a non-linear series about Din Djarin and his favorite... distraction.
Description: A series of drabbles all sharing one theme: you've decided to run away from your Mandalorian. On purpose. For his birthday. Listen, everyone's got their kinks, and his is bounty hunting (sort of. Mostly, it's you.)
Pairing: Din Djarin x Female Reader
The fifth time, it's a hot whisper against your ear in the dark: “When I said run, I didn’t mean stay in my bed.”
Warnings: Explicit sexual content, canon-typical violence, object insertion but probably not in the way you think, oral sex, manual sex, implied penetrative sex, brief mention of somnophilia, canon what canon, no betas we die like men [warnings are for all drabbles.]
Tropes: established relationship, the helmet comes off, hurt/comfort, fluff, adventure
Author's note: This one is for @mandoloriancookie, who was one of the first people to encourage me to keep going when I posted my first fanfic in 20+ years. Hope you like Din with his helmet off.
RUN 5: HOME
The fifth time, it's a hot whisper against your ear in the dark: “When I said run, I didn’t mean stay in my bed.”
"Oh come on, it’s not like you had any reason to come back and look. And I had a hell of week, what with all the weird rituals and your Mandalorians staring at me. I didn't feel much like exercise.”
"They're not my Mandalorians. And not that I mind, but circling back to the ship is cheating," Din says, but you can tell his heart's not in it. You'd had the good sense to be naked when he found you and it's already paying off, because his irritation is muted by the way he's kissing down your collarbone toward the swell of your breast. Then he pauses, hovering over your nipple. "Wait. How the hell did you get back in here without tripping the alarm?"
That had occurred to you too. You had your own ground protocol disarmament button on your comm link, but if you’d used it, or opened the gangway hatch to get back inside, the ship would have notified Din and he would have known exactly where you were. So you pursued... other means.
"Promise you won't be mad if I tell you," you say, only half-joking.
You can't see Din's reaction in the dim space of his rack but you can feel him bury his head between your tits, press his nose to your sternum, and groan. “No, I don't promise, and I know you're dying to tell me anyway."
You absolutely are. "You know that job you took three weeks ago, when you were planetside without me? I rewired the security system to ignore the maintenance cubby below the hyperdrive. The one right against the bulkhead."
"That wouldn't have gotten you in." He sounds dubious but you're not done.
"And then I spent the next few jobs figuring out how to make a really, really tiny grav bomb," you continue, and Din lets out another noise like a dying bantha. "And then after that, when we took that job on Ferrix, I salvaged an emergency airlock seal and cut it down to size. Obviously we're still space-worthy, I'm not totally insane. I'll do the real repair in Corellia, they have amazing parts markets."
"You maniac," Din says. "You are insane. You spent three weeks and a pile of credits just to win a contest that doesn't mean anything and you're going to have to spend another week and another pile of credits to fix it, and you lost anyway."
You bridle at that. "Okay, first of all, it was a very impressive test of my skills so respect where it's due, tinhead. Secondly, I would have won if you hadn't decided to bring the ship with you to Central, which, by the way, is also cheating. And third -- technically, you haven't found the new countdown timer yet," you finish, a little breathlessly. Din's resumed his warm attentions to your breasts while you talk. He makes a skeptical sound as he trails back up your chest and bites down on one earlobe, playing the flesh gently between teeth and tongue and making you shudder. You wonder if you'll ever be less sensitive to the feeling of his mouth on you. You doubt it.
"How much time is left?" Din asks, when he finally releases you. You've dissolved into his touch as you usually do, pliant and willing underneath him, and it takes you a second to recall yourself enough to answer.
"Well, I'm not exactly wearing a chrono, but probably.... about five minutes?"
"Plenty of time for me to still win." You scoff at his confidence, but Din's response is to pin your hip down with one big hand while he slides down your body and nudges your legs apart with the other. He pushes a callused finger into your wet heat and you ache at the intrusion, canting your hips up to ask for more. He obligingly hooks another finger into you, earning a moan, and then you hear a muffled, triumphant noise as Din finds what he's looking for and tugs. The sensation of the biocoat prophylactic sliding out of you, its blinking electronic burden still safe inside, is extremely odd, even more so than inserting it was. You can feel yourself flushing with belated embarrassment, heat rising up your neck to color your cheeks. You still can't make out his expression but Din lifts his head from between your thighs and you just know his eyebrows are incredulous.
"You maniac," he says again, simultaneously laughing and appalled. "Maker, I remember when you were shy. Did you really think that wouldn't be the first place I'd look? I know you, mesh'la, and that includes your sense of humor. And even if I didn't, you know I can't keep my hands off you."
"Your fingers out of me, more like," you say, but you hope he can hear your grin even if you are blushing. "Maybe I wanted to lose. Maybe I thought you needed a win after I beat you so bad last time."
"Yeah, by getting arrested," he grumbles, but he sets the tiny round button aside, still wrapped, and dips his head to lick a long hot stripe up you instead. Then he does it again, and again, and you arch into the pleasure, countdown forgotten, begging for more of the touch that is finally permitted between you. For more of what he always awakens in you.
"Din-- fuck, Din -- right there, yes, please..."
He gives you a few more firm strokes, then trades tongue for fingers, lightly circling your clit, and presses a kiss to your inner thigh. "As the winner, shouldn't I be deciding the terms? We're supposed to be in the air and on the way to Corellia in…” He checks the timer. “Now.”
You whine. He's well within the rights of your game to pull away and make you wait as long as it pleases him, but the bed is so comfortable and he feels so good against you. You weren’t kidding about your week; all you want is your own Mando to yourself for a while. "Another five minutes-- it’s your birthday,” you plead.
He laughs into the soft flesh of your belly, his fingers never stopping their teasing. "I told you years ago. I don't know my birthday."
"Ugh, you're no fun. What kind of birthday is 'sometime during the rainy cycle on Aq Vetina' anyway?" Your complaint is familiar by now. "You let me pick a date on the standard calendar, and I picked today. So it's your birthday."
"If it's my birthday and I won the hunt, why does it feel like you're bossing me around?" You can feel Din's smile as he drags his mouth to the juncture of your thighs and spreads you open. You moan as his tongue dips just inside you, but he's continuing the conversation like nothing happened, speaking directly to your core. "Besides, who cares about birthdays when now I can do this anytime I want." His voice has taken on that rich, dark tone you've only ever heard him use with you. "I'm going to taste my riduur while she sleeps, eat her while she works, bend you over the console and fuck you with my--"
Din's list is cut short as you grab his shoulders, hauling him up your body to tangle your mouths together, the kiss as new and ecstatic as you feel. By the time you stop to breathe again, you're both panting, and you can feel the hard length of him pressing against your hip. You want him more than you ever imagined possible.
"Another five minutes," you say again, and bury your fingers in his hair to pull him closer.
Anon from yesterday 👋. Sorry irl stuff got in the way. I'm not super well versed in your content but so far I do think you talk about her in a way that isn't "Cersei is an evil bitch just because" and i deff said as much in my first ask. I also fully understand the internalized misogyny in a mother not liking her daughters as much as her sons and that's where you were going with for Joanna. What I noticed when i saw your AU was that BOTH Joanna (her thoughts/feelings) and the AU itself (themes etc) are more outwardly negative and less symphatetic towards her than the others.
And IT'S SO HARD FOR ME TO EXPLAIN THIS VIA ASK BOX but i am basically going to reemphasize what I said before and also say that i think there is a bias for imagining AUs that put cersei in a more negative (and less…idk kinder? gentler? considerate?) light than her brothers whether it's one dimensional or complex and I noticed that in your AU as well, as if she was always doomed to have a dark cloud over her head while her brothers got even a tiny bit of shine and light. I can provide examples if you wish to continue the convo. Anyways I don't mean to overstay my welcome so i'll just leave this as a case of us having very similar ideals but different ways of interpreting them. And btw that other anon was dead ass wrong about what they said about me. Like I promise I don't see her as a sweet angel victim and ignore how ugly and fucked up she is (esp the book version). I am genuinely SO sorry this ask got as long as it did.
no worries, I'm happy to discuss! but honestly, I'm kind of at a loss with what choices I made in this particular AU led you to ask whether I even liked Cersei as a character.
the whole thing (at least where concerns Jaime and Cersei) is based on the conjecture of what might happen to the relationships between the twins and their mother if she had gone ahead and shipped Cersei to Dorne - which, had Joanna survived, I think is highly likely to have happened, i.e. it was on the verge of becoming a canon event. and I think it only makes sense to conclude that Joanna and Cersei's relationship would take a semi-catastrophic hit if it did. like, that is a very heavy thing to do to a seven-year-old, and Cersei has always had a keen sense of injustice and sure can harbour a grudge, so I think she'd take it especially hard.
then of course the misogynistic motherhood is just something that I thought made Joanna's relationship with both Jaime and Cersei more interesting, because it means she can't truly see either of them clearly. in my mind it just makes sense for a Lannister, certainly for the wife of Tywin, and what we know of Joanna makes me feel she had some level of reverence of patriarchal structures. so, threw that in.
and also tbh, it's just more interesting to me than the notion that all the dead ladies of asoiaf would've been these girlboss mums teaching their girls to be lovely ladies or feisty villainesses, like it's just.... so boring to me lmao. like one thing with Catelyn (who I do adore) is that I kind of wish GRRM would go harder on her relationship with Arya. sounds like there's some tension there, old man. well, bust it open!!
so there's my reasoning: I picture Joanna as a deeply flawed mother who, in a moment of both protectiveness and prejudice against her daughter effectively exiles a seven-year-old who won't forgive her for it, and everything else spins from there.
and I guess I just feel like we're splitting hairs a bit here because I don't think I've produced anything that much happier in the AU for Jaime or Tyrion?? like I said of Jaime that he essentially has a distant relationship w his mother for the rest of her life, gets hitched to Lysa in an entirely loveless marriage, and lives probably a quite unfulfilling adulthood. Tyrion in the meantime.... I mean basically all I've given Tyrion is a different kind of abusive relationship with a parent lmao, and a life of isolation and toxic companionship. again, I think it'd be boring to have Joanna purely adore Tyrion or utterly despise him, so why not both.
and idk. I don't think either of the above is me gifting the Lannister boys something I'm refusing Cersei? like sure you could take it that way, but I suppose I'm just surprised that this disparity has struck you so much so that you think I must dislike Cersei to have even written it. you're welcome to provide examples if you like, bc honestly I figured it must be something substantially more than this AU that led you to send me the message - which is why I asked if you had some familiarity with the rest of my Cers posts, I assumed you must've read more than just this AU to make you ask that??
