eonwe rates the maiar

“Eonwe Rates the Valar” flopped hard, so I’m doing the logical thing and making another one! Birb boi rates his colleagues!

also this is more like how well he knows/likes them, not how “good” they are per se. it’s subjective not objective

Ilmare: she’s like a sister to Eonwe. she also makes fresh sweet rolls for the sky-folk (Eonwe, Arien, Tilion, Earendil, etc). on a regular basis. earnest student and preserver of wisdom. also her magic abilities are top-notch. She’s better with the Music than Eonwe himself is. She’s also deeply faithful to both Varda and Manwe. 100/10.

Osse: Brings rains that make the earth fresh and green, which is nice, but why does he have to be so destructive about it? and splashing innocent children of Eru down in the water to drown? However, his rehabilitation from the service of Melkor shows genuine faith and courage. 6/10.

Uinen: Gentle and kindhearted. Protects the Children of Eru whenever she can. Reins Osse in when he rages. Feeds the seabirds little bites of bread. 9/10

Melian: Withdrew into Doriath during the Year of the Trees, then hid away in the gardens of Vana and Este ever since. From what he can tell, she is wise and sensible, which he thinks is admirable, but they aren’t close. She did open up the way for elf/maia marriages, though, so that’s kind of neat. 6/10

Arien: She’s so pretty! and the sun is so bright and warm! Her rapier wit makes her a fascinating conversationalist. Loyal, dedicated and timely. They talk on the reg--him as a flying being and her as the Sun. 9/10

Tilion: Being the Moon was the best idea he ever had. All the world’s hounds still howl to him in brotherhood. Eonwe’s not a dog person but that’s still pretty cool. Not as wise as some, but is chivalrous and dedicated, and frankly, Tilion and Ilmare are close and any friend of Ilmare’s is a friend of Eonwe’s. 7/10

Curumo/Saruman: A bit full of himself. And what’s with defecting to evil when he was supposed to be a force of leadership and light? However, his craftsmanship is high-quality, especially his weaponsmithing, and in the end, he is very intelligent. Doesn’t excuse the traitorship, though. 4/10.

Olorin/Gandalf: Wise, intelligent, and goodhearted. A good student, a good teacher. Talented in magic and swordplay. Fiercely loyal to his causes. And yet, he still has fun. 10/10 every Maia should aim to be like him

Aiwendil/Radagast: he’s a little feral but, like, in a cute way. Trying to save the little creatures of Arda from Sauron was an admirable cause. His heart’s in the right place, but his planning skills could be better. He’s simple, but there’s nothing wrong with being simple. 8/10

Alatar & Pallando: Hunt/eat birds for why? abandon cause for why? where’d they even go? what was their problem? 4/10

Tom Bombadil: What’s with moving to Middle Earth? Valinor literally could have used your might! Other than that, he’s a decent guy and 7/10.

Goldberry: Continuing with the theme of Ulmo having the gentlest, sweetest she-Maiar in his service. 8/10.

the eagles: birby friends who are also heroic warriors? 10/10!

Mairon Sauron: intelligent. wise. crafty. his sense of beauty is immaculate. amazing with his hands. rapier wit. friend.10/10 evil. cruel. the things he did in Numenor and in the pits of Angband were vile. traitor. heartbreaker. enemy. 0/10.

people saying that they enjoyed Nimona until the kissing scene, that it "made it gay" and that it "pushed the agenda" as if the movie wasn't queer from the START.

five minutes in, ambrosius told ballister he loved him. an hour in, he said it again! nearly every interaction they had was so blatantly romantic, I truly don't understand the people who think that the final kissing scene "made it canon", because to me, it was obvious in their very first scene.

ballister saying that nimona is his friend, and ambrosius responding "aren't I more than that?" ballister insisting throughout the movie that ambrosius will listen to him and be on his side, saying "you shouldn't NEED proof, you know i'm not a murderer." not to mention the fact that it's been canon since the comic came out.

I can't take anyone who says that final scene "made it gay" serious, because they obviously didn't watch the rest of the movie. and I find that quite sad, because they're missing out on a fantastic storyline.

hey. you're an alter too, remember? you are as much a part in this team as any other part. you're important. just because other alters haven't fronted recently doesn't automatically mean you were wrong, or "faking". parts get front stuck; it happens! switching slows down; it happens! the rest of the system quiets down for a while; it happens! especially if you are newly-discovered.

be patient. be kind to yourself. you are the only alter that needs to front right now in order to be "valid". you know what you've experienced, you know you aren't trying to fake this, so know that fronting alone for a while will not take these experiences away from you.

design notes about the scries, below the cut:

𝟣. miles morales

the patterns from his genes already reflected miles' spider-suit patterns well, so his scry doesnt have a lot of apparel

the bewitching ruby pendants represents his spider logo

2. gwen stacy

gwen has runes tert, because there werent any suitable pink glove apparels (the peony ones dont match well)

i considered giving the scry banana noxtide as a secondary to mimic her hair's pink hairlights, but it didnt mesh well

3. pavitr prabhakar

i couldn't figure out how to represent pavitr's spider logo, so i just gave his scry a necklace in lieu of it

the "navy bandana" was way too big and the color didnt match, so i opted for the "sky blue fillet" to represent his headband

4. hobie brown

hobie's scry/outfit was surprisingly easy to come up with, and was the first one i did

he gets a lute because theres no guitar apparel

his patchwork secondary represents his collage art style

5. miguel o'hara

i chose banescale for miguel, as his spider-suit is so simple/streamlined that it wouldnt translate well to apparel + skeletal tert being spiky is reminiscent of his arm spikes

[insert steven universe joke here about his colors being sapphire/garnet/ruby]

6. jessica drew

i thought about representing jessica's motorcycle with the "flameforger crucible" or "igneous iguana" apparels, but they were too bulky unfortunately

vermilion skink doesnt have her exact shade of yellow, but is close enough that oilslick peacock's yellow accent color balances it out visually

7. peter b. parker

fissure secondary represents the spider web pattern on peter's spider-suit

i know his slippers are supposed to be blue, but the "mage's peony socks" looked better here

the bookworm plushie is a stand-in for mayday

This is an idea I had yesterday, but I didn't want it to be swept away from the Dannypocalypse, so let's gooooo!

The Lazarus Pits are just more than just leaked ectoplasm into the material world, they're unstable rifts that could potentially tear apart the whole Infinite Realms! (The Fenton Portal doesn't count because technology keeps it stable.)

While one or two could be somehow manageable, the League of Assassins found a way to recreate them and the new model was definitely more unstable than the old ones...

SO this clearly needed an intervention.

Luckily, Clockwork has two apprentices heroes that own them some favors...

This is how Danny Fenton/Phantom, Peter Parker/Spider-man and the ghost of one (1) Tony Stark (as an emotional support ghost) found themselves being loaned to the DC Universe to close every single one of these Pits.

(Danny became CW's unofficial apprentice after they helped him with TUE.)

AN INSPIRED DECLARATION, BARDIC COLLEGE OF FOCHLUCAN. I honestly thought my time as an artist had come to an end and all hope for further inspiration was gone. I come from months of fruitless research and abandoned music sheets, any spark of creativity flickering and dying by the time my fingers touched the strings. I was lost and couldn't find my way back home when suddenly, destiny came knocking at my door. Quite literally, I may add. I went to stay at my aunt's cottage outside of the city to see if some peace and quite would do my muse any good and I had the fortuitous chance of offering shelter to a group of weary travelers. They surely were a lively bunch and while I had fun entertaining guests after such a long time spent alone, Tymora's gentle hand came to save me under the guise of a young couple of most curious nature. A tiefling and a devil, by all means a nightmarish union if you were to give the rumors any credits and yet. They spent the night sitting quietly next to each other, letting the others take turns in keeping the conversation alive. I didn't mean to pry but I was mesmerized by the softness of their touches, the tenderness of their gaze. At some point during the night, the young man drifted off to sleep leaning against the girl's shoulder, she raised a hand to caress his scarred face with such unmistakable devotion it almost moved me to tears. It reminded me why I started composing in the first place: to wonder about the nature of simple things like love and companionship. If I ever see them again, I hope they'll know this song is for them.

Genuine question: How do antis and fanpol grapple with the fact that, for every weird, icky, reprehensible fic lurking in the shadows on ao3, there is a book equivalent sitting proudly in the open on the shelves of any run of the mill bookstore or library?

And going by their logic, how is the book the lesser of two evils? I mean, most fanfics are a product of one lone weirdo with access to a computer. Those books had to pass through who knows how many people on the way to getting edited, picked up by a publisher, stocked on shelves, etc

And I know we all love to roll our eyes at the current social media-fication of literature, but how helpful is ao3's tagging system?? Picking up a random book could expose you to all sorts of uncomfortable things without your prior knowledge. But the first thing you're presented with when looking for a fic is a list of tags to help you avoid things from squicks to genuinely triggering material.

Of course the kicker for that last point is that those people ignore the tags just to read something upsetting then be mad at someone else when they get upset. But it's whatever

Anyway my point being that I just think antis know this exactly. Fanfics have a much smaller audience and therefor smaller "influence" than books. But fics are a much easier target. And people outside of tumblr might start side eyeing you if you start talking about banning actual physical books, so... Best to stay on the safe side and direct all your outrage at silly little ao3 and fic writers
