I feel so motivated to go back to running again! Kikuzato's journey had me really pumped up. I like how the manga has these little glimpses in running technic, I've been really needing those.

Para Shooting World Championships: Second gold for India; Singhraj Adhana secures 2024 Paris Paralympics quota | More sports News
Tumblr media
AL AIN (UAE): Double Paralympic medallist Singhraj Adhana secured a quota for India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics after signing off at the fourth place in the P1 - men's 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the Para Shooting World Championships on Wednesday. The 40-year-old Indian, who won a silver and a bronze at Tokyo Paralympics last year, was in title contention as he led for a major part of the event until a score of seven spoiled his medal chances. While he finished fourth, Korea's Jo Jengdu clinched the gold with a score of 235.7 followed by Poland's Sowinski Szymon (233.1) and Ibragimov Server (213.3). Singhraj was part of the Indian shooting team -- also comprising Manish Narwal and Nihal Singh -- which claimed its second gold medal in the ongoing Championships in the team event of the P1- Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1. The Indian team aggregated a total score of 1704-34x, riding on Paralympic champion Narwal's 575-17x score that put him in second place in the rankings for the finals. The Indian team was followed by Korea (1697-39x) and Turkey (1674-32x). India coach JP Nautiyal said: "The team has done very well, scoring 1704 in Air Pistol is great. I am very happy that we started with a quota from Singhraj at the Worlds." Earlier, Indian pistol shooters, led by Rahul Jakhar, won the team gold in P3- Mixed 25m Pistol SH1. Jakhar had clinched a bronze in the individual event, his first medal at the Worlds. On Thursday, India's Paralympic star Avani Lekhara will be in action in the R2 - Women's 10m Air Rifle SH1 event. Limitless
The Gods are everywhere, you just have to look. They’re not trapped stagnant in the myths and stories, nor in the stale histories of cultures long past. Omnipresent in their own ways, the Gods can connect with anyone at any time.
Athena can be found walking the aisles of a Harvard library, in the study room with a first generation college student, or in between the cardboard pages of a child’s first board book. Knowledge isn’t limited to the elite or the privileged, and neither is Athena.
Apollo can be found in the galleries of prestigious art museums, in the bedroom of an aspiring anime artist, or in the imagination of a child scribbling with crayons. He is on the stage of a sold out stadium as well as in the back row of the cheapest seats. Art and creativity isn’t limited to those with influence or connections, and neither is Apollo.
Hephaestus can be found in the offices of any corporate building, under the machinery of a blue collar factory, or in the joy of a teenager as they receive their first paycheck. He is found in the Paralympics, boosting the athletes onward, and he is also sitting with the hospital and rehab rooms of those recently disabled. Hard work is not limited to anyone’s status or abilities, and neither is Hephaestus.
Aphrodite can be found on the covers of fashion magazines, in the dreams of an hopeful makeup artist, and in the playfulness of a child playing with their mother’s lipstick. Aphrodite can be in the appeal of sexy fishnets or the allure of a well tailored suit. Beauty and love are not limited to one’s gender or skills, and neither is Aphrodite.
Hermes can be found flying alongside the highest reaching airplanes, the fastest driving cars, and on a seat on public transit in rush hour. He is the luck that saves the lives of a vehicular accident, and the thrill in that first payment on a used car. Luck and speed are not limited to how far or how fancy your transportation can go, and neither is Hermes.
Zeus can be found behind the bench of a supreme court case, in the office of an overworked pubic defender, and in the thunderous laughter of a new father. He is in the welcoming smile of a stranger to those in need, and in the homeless being invited in. Justice and hospitality are not limited to one’s power or status, and neither is Zeus.
Hera can be found in a fabulous wedding with hundreds of guests, in the celebration of a long lasting marriage, or officiating the ceremony in a courthouse. She is in the “I love you”’s before bed, the hands held in the car after a first date, and in the hospital room of an elderly couple saying goodbye for the last time. Love is not limited to the length of one’s relationship, and neither is Hera.
Artemis can be found in the fields and forests of nature, in the calm breath of a hunter, or in the tears of grief for a lost pet. She is the courage in the voices fighting for respect and in the cheer of progress made. Equal treatment peace is not limited to those who hold the power, and neither is Artemis.
Hestia can be found in the jingle of a first-time homeowners’ new keys, in the shared dinner of a multi-generational home, or in the exhausted smile of a single parent. She is the warmth of a household and the love shared within its walls. Family and support is not limited to those you share blood with or in the size of your dwelling, and neither is Hestia.
Ares can be found in the measured steps of a solider over seas, in the joyous tears of a spouse when their loved one comes home, and in the flag wrapped around a coffin. He is in the voices of those calling for change, in the recovery rooms of the wounded, and in the minds of those struggling with trauma. Safety and wellness are not limited to one’s demographics and neither is Ares.
Hades can be found in the grief left behind after a death, in the weight of responsibility of leaders, and in the darkness of winter. He is with those who cry and fear for their lives, and in the scars left behind the pain can be too much. Loss and recovery is not limited to those strong enough to withstand it and neither is Hades.
Persephone can be found in the joy at the first warm day, in the love bridging distance between lovers, and in the will of those daring to strive for their dreams. She is the wonderment of a child at a honeybee, and the beauty found in the darkness. Energy and strength is not limited to the times of light and color, and neither is Persephone.
Demeter can be found in the engines of the machines in a field, in the bounty of a community garden harvest, and in the first sprouts of an amateur gardener. She is the change of the seasons and the rebirth of the new year. Change and plenty are not limited to those with capital or land, and neither is Demeter.
Dionysus can be found on the floats of a pride parade, in the movements pushing for equality, and in the bedroom of a closeted teenager. He is both the euphoria and dysphoria felt by some in their bodies, and in the community embracing those who feel lost. Rights and identity are not limited to those who one loves or how one looks, and neither is Dionysus.
Poseidon can be found on the decks of a ship in a storm, on the docks with a father teaching his son to fish, or in the serenity on a sandy beach. He is the joyful screams of children running from the waves and the persistence in one learning how to swim. Power and possibility is not limited to the oceans and or one’s skills, and neither is Poseidon.

“For those of you that forgot or weren’t royal watching around the 2015-2017 era, William also hated the press and wanted to be “normal.” He and Kate barely did anything while claiming to be “keen” to work and would have loved the “half in half out” approach where they had less responsibilities and still keeping the titles and perks. They were always on vacation, neglecting royal duties saying they needed to be home with their kids while going alone to the Maldives when George was a few months old and then Kate refusing to give out shamrocks (cause she didn’t realize she had to do it every year/ had to be home with her kids) and later seen with new highlights. Not to mention they were caught sunbathing instead of attending the paralympics in the past. Harry is more vocal about it but William at some point was just as whiny about the press and his duties. People actually sympathized with them for being in a gilded cage (that they were very able to leave) but some of us got real tired of their half assed excuses. When the trainwreck that is Meghan arrived on the scene the Cambridges were absolved 🙄” - Submitted by Anonymous

Paralympic swimmer Barbara Gordon is an idea I hold very close to my heart. The way she'd find water as recovering, maybe she swam when younger. Was swimmer in highschool, used to pull her hair into swim caps, and go throw swimsuits much to fast.
So while trying to find something to hold on in the aftermath on her injury and there it is. She gets help, learning to adjust. To pull her self through the water again, new prescription goggles helping her along the way. It's hard, learning to swim after an injury. Even a broken arm takes recovery it gets it moving properly in the water. But she keeps going, runs tech at night, swims early in the morning.
She never thought swimming would mean much to her, not like this. But than there she is is. Transferring into the pool, a team USA cap on her head, and swims. Her arms pulling her through the water to victory.

Ok so here are my current theories for the new D20 season based off the fact it’s not IH, the purple mist in the image background, the fact it was said that we would never guess it, and the Hank Green Atoms conspiracy
Astronauts/classic spaceship adventure - seems too simple for something we would never guess, but they may put their own spin on it
Aliens come to earth and they play the aliens - this seems like it would be a fun twist, but I don’t know how likely it is, or if it works with the purple mist picture from the promo
Nautical underwater thriller - so much of the ocean is unexplored, who knows what could be down there?
Cells At Work - y’know the anime Cells at Work where all the characters are human cells personified doing stuff in a body? Like that. But with atoms instead of cells
Periodic Table the TTRPG - what if the elements on the periodic table were dnd characters? Wouldn’t that be fun
Nuclear fallout - idk atom b*mbs is that anything
Some joke guesses not based on anything include: a season sponsored by the Barbie movie, a season where everyone is a lawyer, a hospital drama, former spies do one last job, dad simulator, vampire paralympics, tarot card based game, oops all bards, PVP season, animorphs season

I was always loosely under the impression that the first Olympic tie-in doll in the Barbie range was Olympic Gymnast Barbie for the 1996 Atlanta games, but as it turns out this is not the case.
Tumblr media
The 1970s brought us "Gold Medal Barbie", including a range of different Olympic-themed outfits. To break down further, there were also a range of Barbies showing her and her friends competing in different events.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe, however, that Olympic Gymnast Barbie in 1996 was the first to be tied in to a specific Games, as well as the start of the trend of having Barbies representing the US in consecutive games going forward with specific tie-ins.
Tumblr media
I have talked about Olympic Gymnast Barbie in many other posts before, because this is specifically a doll I remembered growing up with so she is always fresh in my mind.
If I talked about all the Summer and Winter Games tie-ins this would be such a long post that it would probably make people block on sight, so I'll save the Winter Games for a follow-up post.
Tumblr media
Sydney 2000 had a wide range of dolls as tie-ins, including Swimming Champion Barbie, Paralympic Champion Becky, Olympic Fan Barbie and Olympic Pin Collector Barbie. There are probably several others as well that I have overlooked.
Barbie took a break again from the Games through 2004, 2008 and 2012 (though there are some non-Barbie fashion dolls produced by companies other than Mattel who are identified on reseller sites as a Barbie), making a kind of return in 2016 in a different way. Although there were no dolls that specifically tied into Barbie as a competitor, the 2016 Games inspired a few tie-in collectors Barbies in the likeness of specific Olympians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laurie Hernandez, a solo silver medalist and a team gold medalist gymnast at the Rio Games, and Ibtihaj Muhammad, bronze medalist fencer, were among the "Sheroes" honoured this way.
Tumblr media
The 2020 (technically 2021) Games in Tokyo brought a new wave of Barbie competing as an athlete, in a variety of sports.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of her outfits heavily featured Barbie pink, alongside a Tokyo 2020 jersey.
No Barbies yet have dropped for Paris 2024, but I have to assume it is only a matter of time, as a range of athlete Barbies really fits with Mattel's branding of the doll right now.

Fall Favorite Fic Festival, Entry 5
Remember, winter doesn't officially begin until December 21, she said pedantically.
Tumblr media
I've delayed writing this entry because I was trying to define the reason (or reasons) why I love this fic so damn much. I read this fic at least twice a year, usually sometime in February and then again in the fall. It's a sports fic, and while I am not in general a sports person, I do love me some baseball. But the sport isn't the reason I love this fic, and I think I may have figured it out. Stick with me.
I started the link at Chapter 2, because Chapter 1 is a guide to baseball for the uninitiated. Some of it is out of date now, because MLB in its STUPIDITY has messed around with the rules this year because GOD FORBID people have to wait longer than a minute for anything to fucking happen on a sports field, and of course only HITS matter, but it is still fun to read. You don't need it to appreciate the fic, though.
Whilst I was processing this fic, I spent some time thinking about sports fics in general, and that led me to reread a couple of other favorites. One was A Study in Winning, by Jupiter_Ash. I really like that fic as well, even though I know next to nothing about tennis. I like the drama of the story, I like Sherlock faking his nationality just because, and I enjoy John being a petty little bitch to Moriarty there at the end. I feel like there for a while everyone had read or was reading that fic. Another one I went back to was Of Ice and Men, by SinceWhenDoYouCallMe_John, which is an OT3 set during the Winter Olympics. That one has John in the Paralympics, which gives the relationships an entirely new dimension. There are other good sports fics - throw your favorite in the comments, if you like. I'm mostly limiting my scope in these musings to Sherlock, as I've said before, but I'll read anything if it's good. Links to these two fics are below.
One of the ways in which sports fics have an advantage is that they have a built in structure. There's a match, or a tournament, or a season, and the relationship drama plays out against that backdrop. Writing classes always talk about the "ticking clock" approach to narrative tension, and almost every sport has some type of literal ticking clock. The Bang and the Clatter plays out over a full baseball season, including Spring Training and the postseason. That's basically a year minus the main American holidays, and EarlGreyTea does a really good job of letting the story play out at an appropriate pace. That's very impressive considering that she was posting this as a WIP over the course of an actual season.
(I need to take a minute to talk about my issues with EGT, and by "issues" I mean "soul churning jealousy." EGT is ridiculously prolific. If you go back into the fandom annals and look at the timing of some of her biggest fics, she was posting what became major reference points for the fandom in tandem, writing multiple fics at the same damn time, while, you know, teaching law or moving cross country. She is the best example I know of the importance of writing regularly. Of course, she's incredibly gifted, highly skilled at plotting, characterization, pacing, and just words. She has a fabulous imagination. Her dialogue rings true, and it's fun. But she can turn really good stuff out relatively quickly because she's limber AF. She writes. Anyone who comes to Word Sprints on Sundays or just hangs with me writing knows I'm not fast. I'm lucky to break 100 words in 15 minutes. Part of that is that I edit as I go, but it's also that I don't write as often as I would like to, so it takes me some time to warm up. I would like to be more like EGT, which probably sounds kind of creepy. I hope she doesn't see this. Anyway, she's written many of my top 20, and she actually finishes her stuff. So, yeah. Issues.)
So here is where I ended up: this is a good AU that takes advantage of the time crunch of the sport in which it is set, but that is not why I read it 2+ times per year. I read it because this is one of my favorite John and Sherlock relationships ever. It feels so in character for the way we see them in the show (at least through S2; this was written in 2013). We see them meet, we feel their attraction, we feel Sherlock's very authentic confusion. We feel their fear at being caught out, at first by each other and then by the world. They earn their angst. The way to my heart is good characterization, and this has that. Alongside the battery, the OCs (especially Sherlock and John's families) are complex and have issues of their own. Moriarty doesn't show up until the All Star Workout, which is halfway through the season for those of you who don't know, but it works because by that point, John and Sherlock have things to lose. Lestrade is the best effing choice for a beleaguered, exasperated baseball manager there ever was. Mycroft saves the day AND fucks it up, which I wish we'd seen more of in those days.
Also, John and Sherlock never get too far away from each other, and when they're separated, it's usually for narrative reasons. I like that in a fic, I've come to realize. I like to watch the characters' interplay. It's hard for Sherlock to keep secrets from John when they work together, commute together, and live together, and John is no fool. Their office isn't 221b Baker Street, it's a stadium in Austin, TX, where shit plays out in front of 30k people. John loves baseball. Sherlock loves John. They fight, they fall in love, they eat Chinese food, and they play baseball. And best of all, they are themselves together.
If you read the parts that EGT wrote after the big story, there's a mention of Sherlock pulling together a pick up game in London made of American ex-pats for John's sake, and I'll tell you what. That really pulls this fic together for me. This Sherlock would do that for this John, and we end up a little on the outside looking in, and it's just charming as fuck.
In conclusion, read this even if you don't know baseball, if you want great characterization, a chance to be reminded of how beautiful John and Sherlock were together back in the golden age. Pay attention to the ticking clocks in your favorite fics; intentional or not, there's almost always some time pressure ginning up the conflict. If you're a writer, the best way to get better is to write more. Feels like bullshit, but it's true. And finally, fuck MLB forever for going the completely wrong way on the DH. Pitchers in both leagues should have to/get to hit, and more to the point, DHs should have to fucking do something when their teams are out in the field. I will die on this mound.
(Also, if I'm being honest, Bull Durham is probably my favorite movie, so maybe I'm more of a baseball fan than I'm letting on. I do generally love baseball in popular media. But I still think it's the characterization.)

Olympian Bucky AU
Okay, a few people said they would love to hear more about my AU, so here we go! @btwxsixesandsevens @realmamabear79 @milady-elessar
Ill start with saying that i did archery as a teenager, but i had a bare horse bow. So it was just 1 piece and didn't have any sights or stabalisers or whatever. I did have my lessons with people that did have those, so i do know a little about it, and all the other technical stuff is from the 'net. So if you know more about (recurve) archery than i do, please let me in on all the insider knowledge!
For those not familiar with archery, this is a recurve bow. Its the one used at the olympics.
Tumblr media
And here is a picture with all the technical terms that i will use from time to time:
Tumblr media
The compound bow is from my research the most common in the USA (it has a lot of power and is good for hunting), its also allowed on the paralympics. Bucky will be using the recurve tho.
Tumblr media
Now to my ideas:
Bucky was born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1987. The oldest of four, Rebecca (1989), Ruth (1991) and Esther (1999).
While they live there he just did some boring sports popular in the USA. Kinda switching between things if thats a thing over there, but none really stick.
Then they move to NYC in 1999 when Bucky was 12 years old because of his parents' work. One of his new classmates in NYC did archery and Bucky was invited to tag along to a class once.
And for the first time in his life he actually loved a sport. He loved the silence and accuracy that it required. He also loved that it was an ididivual sport so he wasnt dependent on a teams skill. Just his own.
So he asked his parents if he could join too who after some doubt allowed him to start. They didnt have a lot of money to spare, but he could use a bow from the club and the lessons didnt cost too much. It did help that Rebecca waw more into art and drawing so her hobby was pretty cheap. Bucky is extatic that he can start and he goes to lessons every week and practised his technique and strength whenever he could. He didn’t have money for his own bow and the first competitions he actually used one of the club’s bows that he always used during the lessons. He actually came second out of many kids on his first competition.
Meanwhile he was doing small jobs in the neighbourhood to earn enough money to buy himself a decent bow with sight and stabilisers. It cost him 400 USD to buy it all, because secondhand left handed bows were hard to come by so he had to buy it new, and it wasn’t the best quality, but it was so worth it. He could actually practise everything even better at home even without a target to actually practise at in their apartment.
When he started going to competitions more frequently it was often his coach driving him, because of his parents busy schedule and the fact that there were three little sisters at home too.
At 14, Bucky already competed at the national youth championships. By now he’d been able to upgrade his bow to a better and heavier bow (draw strength) and also a bigger one because his pull length had increased a lot with how much taller he’d gotten over the last few years.
But now i have an appointment so be back later with more!
