hi! hope you’re doing well!

i was wondering if you know the fic where harry is blood adopted (?) by snape in the summer before fifth year and harry takes on a more snape-like appearance.

and then he goes to hogwarts for fifth year as snape’s son (like pretending he isn’t harry potter) and is sorted into slytherin. i read the fic ages ago and haven’t been able to find it since so i was hoping you might know which one i was talking about.

Snape is Harry's guardian

Petunia opened the door in the middle of the night to see her nephew in her front step. She wanted nothing to do with her show off sister and cut contact three years ago with reason. Her hands were full with Dudley and the Lord knew her parents never loved her as much as Harry. But she didn't know what to do with the freakish child. Not until Vernon was turning the paper and she caught the article of Tobias Snape's prison sentence. A freak with the biggest freak she knew. That would work.

Severus was woken up by loud pounding at the door and groaned through his hangover. But he dragged himself off the floor, half dead. And there was Harry freaking Potter on his dead grass. "Shit."

Harry was screaming at the top of his lungs, freezing cold and in need of a diaper change, screaming for mummy and daddy and the little tot was starving. "Oh fuck it all. Come here," he nearly puked at the stench and picked up the boy bringing him inside where at least he could warm up. One transfigured diaper and a sink bath later, Harry was now in one of his shirts. "What can you eat? Can you eat? I don't have formula." The toddler only started crying again, "You're about as helpful as your father. But at least you are cuter."

He found some apple sauce that was only a week past its expiration and fed the boy with a spoon too big for him and he picked up the corded phone and dialed the fire department.

"Hey. Um, someone left a kid on my door and I don't know what to do?"

"Do you know the child? How old are they?"

"Barely. Umm, he's my ex best friend's kid and her and her husband died two nights ago. I don't know why he's here. He's like ummm... A year and a few months?"

"Were you listed as a guardian? Did a social worker bring him?"

"No for both. There was a loud banging and then baby in the yard and I'm hungover and I don't have diapers. Harry keeps crying but I don't have toys."

"We've sent an Officer to the location your number is registered at. Is Harry injured?"

"Yes. Um, his forehead, has a cut on it. I cleaned that though. Put a bandaid on." Severus gave him another spoonful of the apple sauce from a jar.

"You did the right thing in calling us, help is coming soon." Severus thanked the man and hung up, still feeding Harry because he didn't seem like he wanted to be done eating.

Paperwork and statements and a doctor's visit left Severus holding Harry and a social worker setting out some papers, "You do have options here. The next guardian would be a Sirius Black, just arrested for murder so we can't have that. Mr. Harry can go into the foster system, or you can take temporary guardianship since you were trusted with him, even if you don't know why."

"I'll keep you for Lily," he looked at the green eyes, "So what now?"

It was another few hours before Severus left with the toddler, a bag of supplies, and a social services appointment for the next week. But he swore to protect the little guy napping on his shoulder, even if he did look too much like James Potter.

On a cold December morning, Remus Lupin shows up on Severus Snape's doorstep with a child with very familiar eyes.

“What’s the real reason, Snape?” Remus pushes.

He doesn’t expect an answer, not really. Or if he gets one, it’ll be acerbic and another bit of avoidance. He doesn’t want to think it’s a hopeless endeavour; this is for Harry, and he has to try his best to get Snape on board. He doesn’t want to think of having to send Harry back to a group home.

But then Snape answers in a voice quiet enough that Remus only hears it because of his enhanced senses. 

“I have no wish to become what I hate.” 

He takes a gamble. “Then don’t be like him.” He doesn’t know much about Snape’s childhood, but he remembers enough and this neighbourhood smells like misery and poverty. “Do you really think I’d let you treat Harry any less than with care and affection?” 

Snape bows his head but still doesn’t say more. 

“Listen.” Remus sighs and rubs his eyes. “We don’t… have to see each other, if that’s also part of the issue. I’ll stay away. We only need to agree to rules for Harry, right? Make sure we’re consistent with discipline and the like. He’s a good boy, clever and eager to please. I’m sure he’ll test our limits, but…” Remus looks up from his fidgeting hands to see Snape looking at him over his shoulder. “No matter our past, I trust that you’d never hurt him, just as I would never hurt him. And before you even try to say any rubbish like how Harry is just like James… No.” 

“No?” Snape repeats, voice too silky for Remus’s own good. 

He shivers but shakes his head. “James… I love him like a brother, but I’m not blind to his faults. He was a spoiled brat, and Monty and Ephie raised him to never want for anything. He never had to doubt if his parents loved him, never had to go hungry, never had to wonder if he was good enough to be around others.” Remus tries, tries to keep the bitterness out of his voice. He’s not bitter about James’s golden childhood. Yet — Remus shares more with Harry’s upbringing and probably Snape’s too, than he does with James. He refuses to think about Sirius. 

Snape scowls but returns to his potions. “You mentioned… bruises.”

“Yeah.” He clears his throat, glancing away. “On his arms, and his cousin who’s at least three times his size gave him such a beating earlier this year that he sported a black eye for a week. While he’s never going back to that house, he’ll still be going to the same school if he’s put into a group home.” 

“A magical child in a Muggle group home…” Snape sighs, shaking his head. “Once his accidental magic begins to manifest, it will be hell.” 

“Actually, er,” Remus grimaces, “it’s already manifested. Quite frequently, might I add. From what Harry’s told me, it’s why he was punished so frequently.” 

“Bloody hell.” Snape pinches the bridge of his nose with his free hand. 

The conversation peters out from there. It replays over and over in Remus’s mind; is it too optimistic to think that Snape had seemed almost… favourable towards adopting Harry with him? 

He doesn’t want to get his hopes up. And he certainly won’t be telling this to Harry, not yet. The boy already feels unwanted by nearly everyone in his life, and Remus absolutely refuses to make him feel this way too. 

Harry wakes up some time later. Snape glares at him when he makes to stand, taking three vials and a small bowl of the soup they had for supper to Harry’s room himself. Remus doesn’t mean to eavesdrop, but it isn’t his fault that he can hear them talking without much difficulty.

“Take this one first, swallow in one go.” 

“Ugh!” 

“Silly child, this is why I told you to swallow in one go. Here, take a sip of water. Potions are not meant to taste like pumpkin juice.” 

“Pumpkin juice? Do wizards drink pumpkin juice instead of grape juice, professor?” 

“Hogwarts only serves pumpkin juice. Now, take this one. Don’t dawdle.”

“Ugh! It tastes like Dudley’s old socks!”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” 

Remus hears Harry giggling, though, and Snape’s tone is gentle and dare he say — amused. 

“Do you have a favourite juice, sir?”

Snape is quiet for long enough that Remus thinks he won’t answer, but then he hears Harry gag again from the taste of the third potion. 

“Here, finish your water, then you’ll eat your soup.” Clinking noises, likely Snape putting the vials away. “I am partial to apple juice myself, if I must choose.” 

“I love apple pudding!” 

“Do you, now?” There’s humour in Snape’s voice. 

“I never had pudding before Remus saved me from the Dursleys. I love pudding!”

“If you’re healed by tomorrow, perhaps we can convince your keeper to get some more apple pudding for you.” 

Harry squeals in delight and Remus has to bite his lip to stop himself from grinning. Maybe this won’t be so difficult, after all.

I just checked it out and it sounds amazing, i know what to do today at work lol. Talking about rewrites may i recommend one of the most amazing series in existance? Leo Inter serpentes an ongoing fic (it's on the 7 year now) with Slytherin Harry, Severitus adoption, Drarry and so much more it's so incredibly written and i really don't do it justice in my description, completely recommend it 10/10

Ofc I've read the Leo fic already 👀. Up to date and so excited for the series to finish. I'm expecting super angst surrounding the whole Harry horcrux/master of death thing. I need Leo!Severus to be unhinged and absolutely depressed by the end of it 👀.
