"What's going on?" When Slice proposed to Wilhelm, Please!
💍💖
It had been about a year since Terrence was overthrown by Reginald. The clan was still sort of picking up the pieces after what happened during those past few years. With all that in mind, It made Slice wonder...
...Was now really the right time to do this?
Now, Slice was never known to be the nervous type. He always leaped into any battle or raid with confidence, Machete in hand and a grin on his face.
But after the raid that killed many beloved Toppats like Caly and Crusher, Not helping that he completely snapped at Terrence and even threatened him afterwards, Slice took a more backseat role in the clan for his own sake. Although, If anybody asked, He would say it was because of the scar he got on his face that same day.
Slice had been through many hardships in his life that changed him, And that was honestly what he was worried about. He looked at the small box in his hand, What if he wasn't the same person that Wilhelm loved anymore? What if he says no?
Besides joining the clan itself, Wilhelm was one of the best things that had ever happened to Slice. Wilhelm had directly asked Slice to help him improve his English, Which they spent a lot of free time together doing.
Between that and doing heists together, The two began to get really close, Eventually falling in love.
Slice took a deep breath to ground himself. He wasn't gonna back out now! He hid the box behind his back and walked to the cafeteria.
Wilhelm was sitting in said cafeteria finishing his lunch. He saw Slice walking over and smiled. "Good afternoon, Meine Liebe. I hope your paperwork has not been too taxing today." "N-No, It hasn't." Slice tried to keep his cool. "I just got finished with a huge batch, I have the rest of the day off."
"Wunderbar! I was actually wondering..." Wilhelm started to blush. "If we could spend the rest of the day together..." Slice nodded, But his hands began to shake. "I-I'd love to! B-But... I wanna ask you something first. C-Could you stand up real quick though?"
Wilhelm gave Slice a curious look before standing up. "What would you like to ask me?"
Slice took a few shaky breaths. "W-Wilhelm, I know things have been a bit shaky in the clan recently. Terrence just got dethroned not long ago and we're all still adjusting to Reggie's leadership, So I don't know if this is the best time but..."
His face turned red from both nerves and blushing. "I-I love you so much. You've made me so happy in spite of everything that's happened. Th-That's why I wanted to know."
Wilhelm looked down in surprise when he saw Slice going down on one knee. "What is... Going on..?" Slice pulled out the box and opened it, Revealing a ring with a gold band and a red sunstone in the center.
"Wilhelm Krieghaus, Will you marry me?"
Wilhelm stood in stunned silence for a second before tears began falling down his face. "Ja..! Ja, Schatz! Of course I will!"
Tears began falling down Slice's face as well before he got up and hugged Wilhelm. "Thank you! Thank you! You've made me the happiest Toppat alive!"
The two hugged for a minute before separating. Slice then gently slid the ring onto Wilhelm's finger. "You have chosen a very beautiful ring." He hummed.
"Thank you." Slice wiped a few remaining tears from his face. "Right helped me pick which one to steal. The gem's a sunstone. I chose that because well, You've been the light of my life. Like the sunrise at the end of a cold harsh night. That's probably really cheesy..." He nervously laughed.
"It is perfect." Wilhelm leaned forward and pulled Slice into a kiss. They would both finally be united as one.
(I changed the quote a bit to match Wilhelm's speech pattern)

Serpentes was in chaos. Just moments before halftime of the Contest of Champions ended and the competition could resume, Prince Nosiop abruptly stole his father's throne and claimed that he would now become ruler of Serpentes in place of Cobralan, for he believed that Cobralan was incapable of ruling. In addition, he proclaimed that there was an ancient evil Cobralan was hiding from the public for years, and Nosiop intended to fight it with an army of Gems to prove that the Slytherophidians were meant to conquer.
As the Slytherophidians were sent into a frenzy, Nosiop sat confidently on his new throne while Black Rutile stood by his side. "Ah, this is what it means to take command." Nosiop grinned with his fangs out. "Watching all these worthless insects scurry about while begging for someone to give them orders. Wouldn't you agree?"
"Yes, I agree very much, my friend." Black Rutile declared snidely when she felt someone tug on her cape, that someone being Aquamarine. "Oh, Aquamarine, fancy seeing you here. It feels like we haven't talked in a long while. What's up?"
"We have a question about that army of Gems that Nosiop mentioned." Eyeball said. "How are you going to acquire one, if I may ask? What, will we just make more Gems to serve us?"
"Ah yes, then I suppose it's time for a little history lesson." Black Rutile smirked as she played a holographic video of the Lapidarist's history lesson she spied on. "This is what is known as the Lapidarist. As the name should imply, this being is the mother of all Gems through her creation of what would eventually become the Great Diamond Authority. She possesses the power to create life, and I'm certain she also can reset all Gems to their base programming."
"Wait, what do you mean by base programming?" Holly Blue wondered alarmedly.
"This is going somewhere that I surely won't like." Cat's Eye added morosely.
"Oh, you're going to like what I have planned for her." Black Rutile declared. "Once I plead my case to the Lapidarist and she recognizes me as a poor unfortunate soul in pain and in need of help, she will answer my cries by wiping out all Gems across the universe and forcing them to return to the states from which they first originated, thus making them perfectly willing to follow my every command!"
"So, you're going to brainwash us all?!" Emerald shouted as she combed through the Rutile Rebels to confront Black Rutile. "You're simply plotting to erase everything about us, our personalities, our experiences, our lives, just to fulfill your selfish agenda?! I have done horrible things under both the Diamonds' and your command, but this is going too far!"
"Oh, come now, Emerald, you would probably do the same to make yourself more capable of getting rid of Lars." Black Rutile assured her advisor. "Really, you all should've expected that I'd do something this cruel and unusual towards others."
"Yes, like poofing us, for example?" Cinnabar, now fully reformed after being poofed earlier, declared as she and Cinnabar revealed themselves to Black Rutile. "All because we fancied ourselves better leaders than you?"
"Backstabbing two of your closest confidants was bad enough," Andesine added hotly. "but threatening to erase us all, who have pledged our lives to serve you and your goal of a brighter tomorrow for all Gems?"
"Now, everyone, I know this may seem a little rash, but I promise you all that this is for the greater good!" Black Rutile nervously said, lying through her teeth as she felt her subordinates would soon turn on her like everyone else did. "Please, you all have to listen to me!"
"We are done listening to you." Tanzanite declared fiercely. "White Topaz was right about you; you're a bad leader and a bad friend to all of us. You'd sooner throw one of us to the wolves to see if it was safe before running away at the first sight of danger than actually admit how flawed you are."
"I am not flawed!" Black Rutile shrieked angrily, tears forming in her eyes yet again. "Just please, somebody take my side for once!"
"I believe we all knew this was coming." Demantoid proclaimed harshly before turning to the other Rebels. "Come along, Rebels. Let us find somewhere else where we won't be abused."
"No, wait, please, come back!" Black Rutile yelled as she fruitlessly reached out to her now-former pawns. "You can't just leave me like this! You know the Crystal Gems wouldn't dare take you in!"
"We are well aware of that," Morganite replied coldly. "But at least they'd treat us better than you have."
"Honestly, why did I bother continuing to side with her?" Pyrope scoffed as the Rutile Rebels left their master in the dust for greener pastures, causing Black Rutile to tear up again.
"So, after all we've been through, this is how I'm treated?" Black Rutile groaned as she started crying and groveling on her knees. "What's even the point anymore?"
"To give people hope, dear Rutile," Nosiop said as he hugged his partner in crime. "So we can rip it away from them."
"Indeed, my girl." Pyth agreed with the insidious prince-turned-king. "Now come along. We'd like you to meet the rest of what we call the Serpent Society." As the two Slytherophidians led Black Rutile away from the Ouraborium, Nosiop gave Pyth a firm nod, to which Pyth replied with an evil smile.
--
Elsewhere in the stadium, Steven roamed the halls as he brooded to himself over what he had just learned from the Lapidarist and the Diamonds. Not only was White Diamond more like Pink Diamond than he realized, but the Diamonds were also hiding the fact that they did indeed commit genocide on a few planets that they had conquered. He needed time to process everything he learned, to the point where he barely realized that Nosiop had just announced his conquest of Serpentes.
"You see what sparing the Diamonds will lead you to?" Inner Steven coldly stated as Steven imagined the manifestation of his darker impulses walking alongside him. "You should've let me shatter White when I had the chance back on Homeworld. Then we wouldn't have had to suffer all of this!"
"You and I both know I would never take a life!" Steven shouted angrily at Inner Steven.
"Then what about Jasper?" Inner Steven retorted snidely.
"Okay, you raise a good point," Steven agreed. "but I'd never intentionally take a life."
"Even after my change of heart, I always found it annoying how you'd rather sit back like a coward because you think everyone deserves a second chance." Inner Steven stated. "Much like you, I never fully trusted the Diamonds and thought they would go back on their word to destroy us again at any moment. If that day ever comes, you must be ready for the worst possible scenario."
"Yes, it's true that I feel so utterly betrayed, but I don't think the Diamonds would ever go that far." Steven replied. "I just want to live my life where everyone isn't lying to me and keeping secrets that could destroy us all!"
"You know, on that note, heard the news lately?" Inner Steven added as he tapped his foot, and a voice rang out in Steven's mind-space.
"As of today, I shall now take my father's place as your ruler, for he is not fit to be a king or a Universal Lord. Let this be a wake-up call to you Slytherophidians, the Universal Lords, the Gem race, and the ignorant masses across the entire universe!" the voice of Prince Nosiop declared as a holographic image of him appeared before Steven. "I shall soon arrive with an entire army of loyal Gems at my side to face down an ancient foe my father has hidden from you for so long! We all must answer to the hand of fate, and fate has chosen me to conquer this world!"
"Who is that?" Steven asked his darker half in wonder at the prince before him.
"Prince Nosiop Jormagundr, son of Cobralan and self-proclaimed next in line to become king of Serpentes." Inner Steven revealed. "I'm sure you heard of him before. He and Black Rutile teamed up to conquer the planet and reboot the entire Gem race to turn into their slaves. Don't think you met him in person, though."
"So what, is he meant to be like the Slytherophidian equivalent to Black Rutile or something?" Steven asked.
"Close." Inner Steven answered. "I think he may share some qualities with you. But he's the answer to a very important question."
"What was the question?" Steven asked, not expecting a good answer.
"What if you were more like Pink Diamond growing up?" Inner Steven answered forebodingly. "Think of it. This boy clearly wanted to get everything he ever wanted even though he had everything handed to him on a silver platter, so he resorted to drastic measures when nobody paid attention to him. Remind you of anyone?"
"So what do I need to do?" Steven asked his inner self.
"It's quite simple, really." Inner Steven said with his figurative hands on Steven's shoulders. "You must stop history from repeating itself, or it will mean the universe's destruction and possibly beyond."
--
"What is the meaning of this?!" Cobralan roared as he slithered into the throne room upon hearing the news. "Nosiop, you better have a very good explanation of what you are doing because you are in big trouble, young man!"
"I see you've heard, my old friend." Pyth declared as he ominously snuck up behind Cobralan and grabbed him by the neck with a jagged knife in his scaly hands. "It seems your son will be getting his coronation early. But unfortunately, you won't live long enough to see him all grown up."
"Pyth, what is going on?" Cobralan asked his insidious advisor. "What is Nosiop doing? What are you doing? Answer me, blast you!"
"It's just a little something I've been working on for the past couple of years," Pyth revealed to his former king. "I notice that Nosiop wants to be seen for his great ideas, introduce him to Squamata, and then covertly guide him along as I use him to gain ultimate power." He slowly pressed the knife to Cobralan's throat. "Now then, tell me where Squamata's resting place is, and I promise you'll only come out of this with a few scars."
"I'll never tell you!" Cobralan yelled fiercely and tried spitting poison in Pyth's face, but the vizier barely reacted to the attack. "It's a secret that our family has kept for generations, and I refuse to give it up to the likes of you!"
"So that's the way it is, then." Pyth cruelly hissed as he prepared to stab the king in his throat with the knife. "Long live the king." However, his murder of the Slytherophidian king would have to wait as a loud crash was heard from above, followed by a hearty "OOOOO-HOHOHOHOHO!" that made him jump. "What was that?!"
"Good day, your majesty!" Sardonyx laughed as she smashed a hole in the throne room's ceiling to view Pyth's attempted assassination. "Am I interrupting anything?!"
"What is that thing?!" Pyth screamed in terror as Sardonyx reached into the throne room and grabbed Cobralan in her giant hand.
"Oh, pardon me for being so rude." Sardonyx giggled. "You may call me Sardonyx. I'm here with my lovely assistant, Turquoise, to rescue the fair king of Serpentes and put a stop to your dastardly schemes! Turquoise, please take care of Mr. Pyth, s'il vous plaît"
"Already on it," Turquoise replied as she conjured up some liquid metal that solidified into metallic restraints to keep Pyth imprisoned while the two fusions escaped. "Catch you on the flipside, Dorkus."
"Get back here, you two! Unhand me at once!" Pyth yelled furiously as he tried to escape his imprisonment. "Ugh, this is what happens when you've been spying on Gems for who knows how long. Eventually, they'll overpower you in every way imaginable. Now, can someone get me out of this thing?"
--
On the other side of the Ouraborium, the competitors of the Contest of Champions were trying their best to stay calm amid the chaos. Still, each had their own views about Nosiop's planned takeover of Serpentes.
"Yes, Chief, I'm already calling for backup." Sylvia Spectre said to her boss over her communication device. "Prince Nosiop will be brought to justice by sundown. What do you mean what will the king think?! Nosiop just stole his throne and said Cobralan was unfit to rule!"
"Hey Sylvie, can you talk a little faster so we can get out of here?" Envyrno complained impatiently while leaning back against the wall. "I wanna get the Abe Due Dumballa out of here and cause a little mischief already!"
"No, we cannot!" Sylvia declared sternly. "As an officer of the Coalition of Galaxies, it is my sworn duty to root out evil wherever it may lurk and bring them to justice, no matter the species. And that includes thugs like you, Envyrno."
"Oh geez, another busybody rule-follower." Envyrno groaned in dismay. "You should embrace your inner bad girl already. Let's go kill some horrible bosses together, get a purge going! Live a little! In fact, I know of this great place to hang out at a few star systems away. It's a new club that plays really great hardcore techno for a really hip young crowd."
"The answer is still no." Sylvia turned down Envyrno's offer. "Though that club does sound intriguing."
"Now you're speaking my language!" Envyrno gave a hearty chortle while putting a lava-covered arm around Sylvia's shoulder.
Meanwhile, Rigby Starglow stood up on a makeshift stage in the middle of the arena while tuning his guitar. "Good evening, folks, or whatever time it is on this planet. My name's Rigby Starglow. I'm the biggest rock star in the universe and today, I'm going to play you all a song to calm everybody down." He then began to strum on his guitar. "Breath, should I take a deep? Faith, should I take a leap?" Rigby started singing. "Taste, what a bittersweet. All my, all my life. Let me face, let me face, let me face my fears!"
Within the city of Alethinophidia, Captain Gearfeet was having the time of his life as he tipped over market stalls and broke into shops to engage in some looting. "Hee hee hee, this is the most fun I've had in ages!" he laughed happily while diving into a store window to steal its contents. "Come on, everybody, it's the end of the world. Let's get looting!"
"Stop right there, Gearfeet." Sheriff Spiegel declared as he pressed a laser pistol to the captain's nose. "We're gonna need you to hand over everything you stole so we can return them to their rightful owners."
"I dare you to try, copper." Gearfeet said as he protectively held onto his loot. "I'm not even sure who the original owners are anymore!"
"Everyone please, cease this conflict!" Michelle Angelon exclaimed as she flew down from above to get between the sheriff and the pirate. "I understand that you are on different sides of the law, but there are far more pressing matters at hand, my friends."
"Yeah, yeah, the giant space snake is a-coming, or whatever." Deputy Edward replied. "Man, haven't had a day this crazy since we fought those spice cultists back home, eh Sheriff?"
"You said it, Edward. I can still hear them now." Spiegel smirked. "He who controls the spice controls the universe!"
"Can we please get on with it?!" Gearfeet yelled. "I just wanna find a ship and go back to my crew already."
"You and us both, Captain." S-L1M3 said as he slithered to the four with Earthos, Lady Imagineer, Monty, and the Decimator behind him. "I just want to go home already. I didn't even get a chance to fight anybody!"
"I, for one, am still not satisfied with the hand I was dealt on this planet." The Decimator replied in his trademark deep, booming voice. "I demand the greatest fight these creatures could offer, yet time and again, I've been greeted with nothing but disappointment! Whatever this ancient foe Nosiop speaks of may be, it has got to give me a satisfactory challenge!"
"Whatever you say, big guy!" Monty said meekly before pulling out a photo of his wife and children back on his home planet. "Hold on, my family, I'll be home soon."
"That your fam there, Monty?" Earthos asked about the photo. "Not a bad lot, I'll say. Maybe I can visit sometime, be like the cool uncle to your kids."
"That would be so nice, Earthos." Monty replied sweetly before all the fighters gathered in Alethinophidia looked up at the sky to find that the clouds had changed. "Hey, what's that up there?"
"I believe it's a message." Lady Imagineer answered and began reading the message. "I think it says, 'Meet us at the castle at once. Signed, the Crystal Gems'."
"That just spells out B.U.T.T.," Monty said as he read the message in the sky himself. "How are you able to get all that?!"
"Call it a hunch." Imagineer smiled kindly in reply before she flew towards the castle. "Come on, everybody, follow me!"
--
"Hey, I think I can see people coming towards us!" Laz exclaimed as she, Lapis, and Zuli watched the Contest competitors race towards the castle. "Our message worked!"
"Good, but next time," Lapis said before turning to Zuli. "let's try and get straight to the point instead of just writing funny words in the sky. You're lucky this didn't end up like last time, Zuli!"
"Oh, come on, Lapis, you told me it was a good idea back in the day on Tritek!" Zuli tried shifting the blame to Lapis. "Those Gremlins didn't know what hit them!"
"Can you three please stop arguing and get back in here?!" Jasper bellowed for the three Lapides to come inside. "We need to think of a plan!"
The three terraformers hovered into the main hall of the castle, where the Crystal Gems have gathered the royal family of Serpentes, Captain Boa, Aescul, the Metals, the various contestants in the Contest of Champions, the Diamonds, Bialyoom and Meinerr, the Little Homeworld gems, the Universal Lords, and the Off-Colors together to form an alliance to save Serpentes and the universe.
"Good day to you all." Connie announced to the ragtag band of misfits. "As I'm sure you're all aware of what has been happening lately, about the announcement that Nosiop is plotting to conquer the planet with an army of Gems. Today, we have gathered you all to stop that for the good of everyone in the universe."
"I can't believe my son would do this to me." Cobralan muttered in shame and regret while looking down at his hands. "I've done so much for his happiness, and this is how he repays me? What have I done that would warrant such a reaction?"
"Do you want me to be honest with you or not?" Greg asked Cobralan.
"I'll take any answer at this point," Cobralan replied.
"To be frank, you're kind of a mediocre father," Greg admitted bluntly, much to Cobralan's shock. "What? You said you'd take any answer!"
"Don't fret, dear husband, I'm sure he's just joshing with you!" Constricta tried to cheer her husband up.
"No, I'm being serious!" Greg exclaimed. "I can definitely see you're a great & loving husband and a pretty darn good ruler to your people, but this whole contest has distanced you from your kids and their needs. I mean, Naja probably has serious self-doubt issues, and Nosiop speaks for himself."
"The human is right, father." Naja agreed with Greg. "Ever since you made me the Contest's master of ceremonies, I've had to deal with the fear of disappointing the masses, that I'd be unworthy of being a princess if I make just one mistake."
"Oh my dear, you'll never be a disappointment to me." Cobralan said as he comforted his daughter with a hug. "No matter what you do to impress the masses, you'll always be my little girl. Now, please, Naja, your mother and I urge you this one time. Please stand, stand by us."
"Okay, Father, I will," Naja replied with a sniffle. "And hopefully, we can bring Nosiop back to his senses too."
"So, what do we do now?" Amethyst asked. "The Lapidarist said we needed an ultimate fusion to stop this Squamata guy once and for all, but which one is it? Opal, Sugilite, Sardonyx, Alexandrite? Maybe even Malachite?"
"Hey, speaking of which, anybody seen Steven lately?" Pearl added. "I haven't seen him since the Lapidarist's history lesson, and I'm getting worried. Hopefully, he hasn't decided to leave Serpentes early."
"No way Steven would ever do that, not in a thousand different timelines I've examined." Garnet proclaimed. "He has to be here somewhere; we just need to know where."
"Probably still somewhere in the castle." Peridot answered. "Hopefully, he hasn't gone too far."
"I'll go search for him." Squaridot declared as she tried leaving the group, only to be stopped in her tracks when Peridot grabbed her stubby green arm.
"Oh no, you don't!" Peridot yelled. "I've known Steven longer; let me search for him!"
"No, I'll do it, you obnoxious nacho!" Squaridot argued with her triangular counterpart before the two hissed at each other and got into a slapfight.
"Spinel, you find Steven." Bismuth ordered Spinel, who gave a hearty salute and ran off.
"Hang on, Steve Summers, I'm coming for you!" Spinel yelled as she ran deeper into the castle.
"I hope Steven can find it in himself to forgive the Diamonds for lying to him." White Topaz said.
"Then again, he's just a very forgiving person in general." Aescul declared. "So this should be pretty easy for him."
--
"Finding this resting place is not easy at all!" Nosiop complained as he, Pyth, Black Rutile, and a few Slytherophidian soldiers ventured into the desert plains of Serpentes in search of Squamata's resting place. "We could've stabbed the location right out of Father, but then we had a couple of fusions ruining everything! No doubt the Crystal Gems are plotting against us as we speak!"
"Thank goodness you eventually got me out of those restraints, Black Rutile," Pyth said with a sinister smile at Black Rutile. "Now look alive. We got some friends on the other side on the horizon."
"Yes, that Serpent Society cult you told me about." Black Rutile replied. "Shouldn't there be more of us?"
"Unfortunately, most of our ranks have been lost to time, except for a few members still alive and kicking today," Pyth explained as a massive spaceship began descending upon Serpentes. Upon landing, its passengers revealed themselves to be a few faces that Black Rutile found familiar.
"Well well well, Torius Vosania." Black Rutile said upon recognizing the crime lord and estranged criminal brother of Batsputin Vosania. "Fancy meeting you here after you got brought to justice by those Pearls."
"Indeed, Black Rutile and I brought along a few new friends I met in prison." Torius declared as he revealed two more thugs by his side who had joined the brother of Batsputin in his revenge plot. One of them was Mr. Manco, the cybernetic menace of East Walleef from Sergione-29 who, much like Torius Vosania, also formed an alliance with Cinnabar in the past before the Black Pearl Brigade foiled his plans. However, the next villain was an even bigger shock to Black Rutile's core.
"No, that cannot be!" Black Rutile gasped in shock at the humanoid figure dressed in green armor with a foghat gray mask, blank red eyes, a purple cape, and a red V on his chest. "Velhallen Beo?! I thought Batsputin defeated you in the Battle of the Night! Were you in prison this whole time?"
"Indeed I was, Gem." Velhallen Beo replied with an arrogant sneer. "But now, thanks to Prince Nosiop, I can retake control of the Twilight Zone with the power of Squamata! Now tell us, where is he hiding?"
"Unfortunately, I was outsmarted by a few of the Crystal Gems before I could extort His Majesty for information," Pyth said regretfully. "Anyone else got any bright ideas?"
"Oh yes, I have one." Mr. Manco declared. "A rumor spread by a fellow prisoner named Titanius Anglesmith says that there is an ancient temple hidden beneath the surface of Serpentes, and only one may be sacrificed for the beast within to be unleashed."
"And I think we know just the sacrifice." Nosiop declared as all the members of the Serpent Society turned to Black Rutile with evil grins. "Black Rutile, would you care to help us unleash total death and destruction at the cost of your life?"
"What?! You can't just betray me like this when I've already been betrayed!" Black Rutile yelled in horror while Beo tried to grab her by the wrists. "Let go of me!"
"Don't try to fight it. You've been craving the sweet release of death, haven't you?" Beo hissed eagerly, stunning Black Rutile for a few moments before she regained her composure and tugged at Velhallen Beo's grip before tossing him over her head, causing the former Universal Lord to lose his grasp on the Gem terrorist. "What the?!"
"I have to warn Steven!" Black Rutile shouted the absolute last thing she ever wanted to say before making her escape.
"What are you waiting for, you nimrods?! After her!" Beo shouted when Nosiop put up a hand to block him.
"Leave her. She's going to bring Steven to us." Nosiop proclaimed. "Now then, anyone else care to be sacrificed? How about you, Maverick? Would you like to give up your life for my cause?"
"Uh, what?" Maverick muttered before Torius picked up the snake guard with his new and improved cybernetics and dragged him away. "I do not consent to this! I demand a two weeks' notice!"
--
Back at the Jormagundrs' castle, Steven was sitting on one of the castle battlements as he gazed up at the bright afternoon sun when he heard someone approaching him.
"Hey, Steven!" Spinel exclaimed while sitting down next to her best half-human friend. "Penny for your thoughts?"
"Yeah, it's about the Diamonds." Steven said softly. "I thought I learned all I could ever learn about them, but then they whip out this whole coverup and make me even more justified in my paranoia! If it turns out someone who loved you was hiding a huge secret this whole time, how would you react?"
"You mean the whole Pink Diamond thing?" Spinel replied with a blunt expression on her face. "Yeah, I'm not sure how to react, considering she died and didn't even tell me because I was standing in the middle of the garden for thousands of years! But the point is, you can't just hold it against the Diamonds for as long as you live, especially since we got a crazy prince about to kill us all!"
"I have every right to hold it against them!" Steven argued with Spinel. "I have every right to be so wary of them, considering that they're acting like they didn't scar me for life, brainwashed my friends, and nearly killed me just because I'm family!"
"Wow, never knew you could hold a grudge, Steven," Spinel muttered in shock. "But hey, it's not like things could get any worse from here on out, right?" Just then, the ground beneath the two began shaking, almost like an earthquake had struck Serpentes. "Me and my big mouth!"
The skies began turning darker than the blackest void as a massive snake creature with green scales, a yellow underbelly, and ginormous sharp fangs emerged from afar and released a mighty roar. "I have turned hundreds upon thousands of worlds to dust in the name of darkness and devastation until I was robbed of my glory." Squamata, the fearsome god of Serpentes, roared for all to hear across the universe. "I will stride across the bones of my enemies and bask in the glow of pure evil, for all of existence shall be mine to consume!"
It turns out that forgiving the Diamonds for their past atrocities would be the least of Steven's worries.
The worst has finally come.
--
Yeah, you and your big mouth, Spinel. At long last, Squamata has been unleashed and is free to destroy all that he sees! At least until an army of Gems can bring him down for good, but it won't be the army that Nosiop desires. Plus, it'll only be a matter of time before Squamata goes out of control and betrays the Serpent Society to pursue his goal of destroying everything he sees. How can the Crystal Gems possibly survive against a creature that only knows and revels in such levels of destruction and chaos? We'll just have to wait and see.

Feel The Heat
Part Two: Something More
Pairing: Frankie Morales x OC Juniper Collins
Rating: 18+ (b/c minors shouldn't lurk, it is illegal and not polite.) But this is big fluff, just more exposition and pining and world building. I do curse, so there's that.
Word Count: 4k+
Summary: June and Frankie are big idiots, and they keep bumping into each other in the wildest of places. Again, and I can't overstate this: they’re both MASSIVE idiots.
A/N: Hey babes! This is going a little slower bc I want to give more with each update, I normally keep around 1K and these are little beasts. But I'm excited with the story, some threads are exposing themselves, and there will be more Frankie X OC time in the next part. For now, enjoy this little taste of yearning and pining and overthinking and general angst over meeting a cute new somebody. 💕
Masterlist | Part One | Part Three
June checked her phone as she stirred the pot, and groaned at the email count. More than half were parents who “couldn’t” make the conference, and the rest were from her principal wanting to reiterate the importance of those meetings. She dropped the phone back to the counter, and focused on her pot. She had googled what to do with Brandywines, and had decided on a slowly simmered tomato sauce. It paired beautifully with the fresh garlic and basil she had picked up, and the whole house smelled like an Italian restaurant.
This was her favorite way to use up produce in the summer. She spent hours simmering and canning, and got to enjoy the fruits of her labor in the dead of winter. She knew she could easily gift the sauce made from those beautiful tomatoes, and she had every intention of doing so.
Sundays passed so quickly, she hardly had time to dwell on the farmer, but when she caught a whiff of her stove she had to find something to do. She worked through the emails, sending reminders that the conferences were mandatory, and that if the parents couldn’t make it during the week before or after school, she was available to meet online. She fought the temptation to open her weekends. She was working on work boundaries with her therapist.
June had an easier time fighting off thoughts of the farmer as the day waned on, and she thought, foolishly, that she could just forget the brown eyed grump she had met.
--
Frankie was having a hard time focusing on anything. Liv was a bundle of energy, and he tried not to snap at her. He had her come help him in the garden, but he ended up sending her to dig for worms after she trampled another vine.
“Ew! Worms are gross.” She argued.
“I know, but didn’t you want to go fishing? Fish eat worms, it’s how we can get them out of the water.” He explained, carefully. She considered him, then bounded off, calling out to the worms. He chuckled watching her, and went back to pulling weeds. With a moment of quiet, his mind flitted back to the woman. He couldn’t help it. He had dreamt of her. She was lounging in the back of his mind, waiting for him to stumble into the memory. Liv was a good distraction, but she only held the woman at bay for so long. He grumbled and wiped his brow. He decided to give it up for now, the woman and the weeding.
“Princess, I think we have some hotdogs. Let’s try those.” He called over to Liv, who excitedly left behind her freshly dug hole.
“Daddy, Mrs. Becka wanted me to remind you about the school stuff.” Liv told him, grabbing his hand as they walked. He exhaled sharply. He had forgotten the meetings. He pulled his phone from his pocket and scrolled through Becka’s texts. She had sent him the teacher’s number at some point, he knew, the trouble was finding it. Finally, he clicked the blue hyper-linked number and called it. Liv ran inside ahead of him, looking for the hot dogs, and he waited at the door as the phone rang.
“Hello?” Ms. Collins answered breathlessly, and he cleared his throat.
“Ms. Collins? It’s Olivia Morales’ dad, calling about the meeting?” He heard something clatter on the other end. “Is now an okay time?”
“Yes, sorry, Mr. Morales, I was just...it doesn’t matter. My schedule is a little tight, when did you have in mind?”
“Something early, maybe before drop-off?”
“Sure, uhm, let me check my calendar,” She sounded distant, he thought, probably on speaker. “Yeah, Tuesday morning? I know that’s quick, it is all I have though.”
“Yeah, I can be there. Like 7am?”
“Yes, that’s great. See you then.” The line disconnected and he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d heard her voice before. He rolled his eyes at himself, of course he had. She was his daughter’s teacher. As if on cue, Liv ran out with a hot dog. He smiled brightly and ruffled her hair.
“‘Kay, kiddo, let’s go catch some fish.” She grinned at him brightly, showing off the hole her first lost tooth had made. His heart caught as he realized she was growing up so fast.
--
“Monday’s really are the worst.” June laughed. She had her mom on the phone, connected through Bluetooth. “I’m just leaving the school now!”
“I just don’t see why you’re having to set these meetings up now. The kids have hardly been in school for a couple of weeks.” June sighed as she merged on the highway to head home.
“I know, it's just something my district does. The hard part is wrangling parents.”
“Well, if you had any children, you’d know how much they require of you.” June rolled her eyes and exhaled through her nose. Her mom was always quick to bring up her lack of a partner and children. Not that June didn’t want those things, they just haven't panned out for her yet.
“Yeah, Mom, I’m sure you’re right.” She acquiesced, knowing the argument wasn’t worth the effort.
“Have you met anyone? You’re only getting older, you know.”
“Thanks Mom. Uh, I have a date tomorrow night, actually.”
“Well, what’s his name, do I know him? What does he do for work?” June rolled her eyes, and wondered why she had answered the call.
“I don’t know anything about him. It’s a blind date.”
“Not even a name?” June bit her lip, debating telling her Mom the nickname.
“He’s ex-Army, goes by Fish. That’s all I know. Oh, and he’s single. A new teacher sat it up for me.” June explained, hoping her Mom wouldn’t have much to say.
“Fish? Oh, wow. Terrence really messed you up, huh.”
“I’m getting a call from a parent, I’ll talk to you later.” June lied, ending the call. Terrence had really messed her up. Not that that was of any importance to her dating life, or this blind date’s name. She sighed hard as she pulled into her driveway.
“Monday’s really are the worst.” She told the empty space of her car. She grabbed her bag and hurried inside. It had been a long day, and she was ready to polish off her bottle of wine from the night before. She walked in and let her bag drop to the floor, and crossed to the staircase. She groaned as she climbed the stairs. She was exhausted and still had a ton left to do.
June stripped quickly and threw on her yard work clothes. She stopped by the kitchen and poured some wine into a cup with a lid, before making her way outside. The day before she had started a small garden, and she was determined to make something grow out of it. She had no idea what she was doing, though. The wine wasn’t really helping either.
She had been short with a few parents while she was tending the fragile plants. It was a little late in the season to try and start anything, but she had picked up some discount plants that she wanted to help limp along for a little longer. She hoped she hadn’t put any of the parents off, and tried to remember who all had called.
June wiped her forehead with her gloved hand and tried to sort them out. Steven’s mom, Cynthia, was meeting her during lunch. That would be short, thankfully. Steven was a good kid, quiet. Graham and Ginger’s grandma was coming Wednesday afternoon, the parents were out of the country for something. Mia’s dad was going to call during the planning period. Ashley’s mom was coming Tuesday afternoon. And Olivia’s dad was coming Tuesday morning. June felt her shoulders sag, and she drained her wine. That wasn’t even half of the parents left.
She gave up on the garden and stalked inside. She wanted to scare up something for dinner, but didn’t really feel like making anything. She gave in and called the local Indian place. They knew her order, and said they’d be there soon. She grimaced, wondering how much money she had spent on Vindaloo over the years, and decided not to think about it. She had enough time to slip in the shower to wash the sweat off, before the delivery guy knocked on her door. She tipped him generously, and sat down on the couch.
June clicked the tv on and scrolled through her watch list. She settled on some mind-numbing detective show, and ate half of the curry. She put the rest away, and grabbed her bag by the door. The bag was a mess, but she managed to find her red pen and the papers that needed grading, and she settled back in.
Soon, the mindless task paired with a full stomach and the wine had her falling into a deep sleep.
--
Frankie was pissed. He was giving up the best time of the day for harvesting to meet with Liv’s teacher, and Ms. Collins couldn’t be bothered to show up. His thoughts went back to the phone call the day before, and he gritted his teeth as he realized she had put him off twice. Over something she had wanted to set up. He’d gotten the bundles of paper she had sent home on it. Yet, here he was, and she was nowhere to be found. He pulled his phone out, and considered punching in her number, but stopped himself.
Frankie had to exhale deeply four times before he could lay his phone down. He had gotten here a little early, and it was just now 7 am, and he didn’t have a set schedule. Liv was with Ashley, Becka had insisted on taking them to drop off so he could have plenty of time with Ms. Collins. Not that it mattered now, he thought, dryly. At ten past, he pulled his phone back out, and brought her name up. He was angry again, and had every intention of calling. But before he could press her name, the door swung open, and his heart dropped.
~~
June woke with a start. The birds were singing outside, the light was all wrong, and she was on the couch. Shit, she thought, jumping up. Shit, shit, shit. She had overslept. She hurried up the stairs and threw on something presentable, and didn’t even check herself in the mirror. She could do her makeup in the class. She grabbed up the half graded papers and shoved them in her bag, and ran out the door. She dumped everything in the passenger seat and drove much faster than usual. She was about halfway to the school when she realized she was meeting a student’s parent this morning. She hadn’t had any coffee, and her brain was starting to slow down from the adrenaline of being late, and she could not remember who she was meeting. She parked, and popped her vanity mirror down and grimaced. She looked like she was having a bad morning. She decided to throw her hair up in a messy bun, and grabbed the mess up from her passenger seat.
She basically ran into the building, her flats ricocheting sound off the concrete walls. She swung her door open, apologies already falling from her lips, when she looked at the parent. The apologies died on her lips, and her mouth fell open.
“You?” She asked, dumbly. “Frankie?” He looked like he had seen a ghost, a bitchy ghost, she grimaced.
“You?” He stood now, and started to move to her.
“Uhm, you can’t be here. I’m meeting a student’s parent, and how’d you even know where to find me?” She started rambling, but when the words were out she realized how stupid they were. “Oh my god, you’re the parent?” She barked out a laugh, and dumped her bag on her desk. He grinned, and wiped the back of his neck.
“Liv’s dad. I’m Frankie Morales.” He told her, faltering from shaking her hand.
“Perfect. I’m Juniper Collins, you can call me June, or Ms. Collins, whatever you prefer. I’m sorry I’m late, I...I started a garden yesterday and wore myself out. That’s what I was doing when we spoke on the phone,” She told him, laughing. June had only tried gardening because she wanted a common foot with him. She didn’t want to tell him that yet, though. “Anyway, let’s get to Liv. Liv is a great girl, Mr. Morales.”
“Frankie.” He interrupted, with a small smile.
“Okay, Frankie. Look, Liv is great, she really is. She struggles in class sometimes, though. She is smart as hell, but she seems to struggle. I wanted to give you some information about ADD or ADHD. It presents differently in girls, and is often overlooked. I haven’t known her long, obviously, but I actually was diagnosed much later in life, and I remember doing some of the things she’s doing. Would you be interested in some info on that?” June asked carefully, their relationship was rocky and weird, and she didn’t want to overstep. This was her job, though. It was a little bit not her job, actually. But she always wanted to look out for her girls, especially when they were as smart and incredible as Liv.
“Oh, wow. I had no idea she was struggling.” Frankie muttered, and removed his cap. June sucked in a sharp breath at his light brown, bouncy curls as they spilled out. He was beautiful. She distracted herself by moving behind her desk and grabbing a folder she had laid out for Liv, for this exact reason, and she thanked her past self for being put together. Then she went and sat beside him at the small activity table. She felt comical sitting next to him in the small chairs, he was spilling over his own. She laid down the folder and put a hand on his arm.
“Look, it isn’t a struggle that she notices yet. It’s her recall, her attention span, and her ability to focus. That sounds like a lot, I know, but there’s a simple test, and there are effective alternatives to stimulants. I’m on one, and it really helped me. Life is only going to get harder for her, if she has it and it remains untreated, but she has no idea. She isn’t “different” yet, and she’s doing so, so well in class. She is a model student. I just want to help, that’s all.” She watched his face as she spoke, and by the end, he seemed defeated.
“I should have noticed. I’m her dad. I...I’ve been worried I’m not around enough, and now you drop this on me.” He laughed dryly. She patted his arm.
“Liv talks about you all the time. She loves you, Frankie. She tells us all the time about her pilot dad.” June said it before she had time to think, before she connected “Liv’s Dad” with Frankie, the man before her. And then, her big mouth spit out something she wanted to take back immediately. “But you’re a farmer, right?” He looked up into her eyes, and his face was hard.
“Anything else you wanted to tell me about Liv?” His words were right, but the tone was too harsh. June flinched back from him, and dropped her gaze from his suddenly hard face.
“Liv is a great girl. She’s great to have in class. I have nothing else for you.” June told him monotonically, going on autopilot so as not to cry. She had spent the whole weekend thinking about him, then she had planted a stupid garden to have more in common with him, and then fate brought them back together, and she screwed it up again. She decided it was done, then. Frankie Morales was not in the cards for her. Sure, she might see him again because she taught his daughter, but she was through thinking of him like that.
“Good. I have to get going, next time try to be on time.” He scolded, as he stood abruptly and left without another word. Slowly, June followed and shut the door behind him. Alone, at last, she started crying.
~~~
“Idiot. You fucking idiot.” Frankie berated himself in his truck. He couldn’t believe it when she swept into the room. He had found her. Not her, he thought with a grimace, Juniper. The name felt so appropriate. It was an old name, but it suited her so perfectly. He exhaled roughly and tried to rewrite the scene. She was looking out for Liv. She wanted Liv to be happy and succeed. This woman cared more about his daughter than Liv’s own mother. And as soon as she tried to get to know him, he bit her head off and made her feel bad for being late. Jesus, what a dick. He had found her, and in a single moment, he had managed to ruin it again.
He put the truck in drive and headed home. Nothing left to do here, he thought bitterly. He was pulling up the driveway when he remembered that she had started a garden. It wasn’t a coincidence, he realized. She had started a garden because of him. He parked the truck and laid his head against the steering wheel. He had pushed her away at every turn. The market, the bar, and now at the school. He had seen her face before he left, and knew it was done. He had pushed too far, too fast. Of course, she would want nothing more to do with him. He had done nothing but treat her like shit.
He got out of the truck and threw his hat. It didn’t do much except get his cap dirty, but it was all he could do. He pulled his phone out, and pulled her name up. He typed a long message, and erased it. Then he tried again, and erased it again. His pride was getting in the way. He couldn’t tell her about his piloting years. The army, spec ops, Colombia, the coke, or any of it. She could just hate him, and then he couldn’t hurt her anymore.
~~~~
June paced up and down her classroom. Her face was puffy, still, and she had been struggling to focus all day. She couldn’t meet anyone new for dinner; she wasn’t in the right headspace for a date. Let alone one where she would have to leave a lasting impression. She chewed her thumb nail before heading down the hall.
Samantha's classroom was pretty close to her own, and June was glad for it. If she had had to walk further she would have lost her nerve. June knocked tentatively on the door, before pulling it open. Samantha looked up and grinned.
"Hey girl! Are you excited for your big date tonight?" June’s own smile fell from her face.
"Actually, that's why I'm here. I want to cancel." Samantha's smile pulled down quickly.
"Why?"
"I'm having kind of a bad day for impressions," June told her flatly.
"Well, I couldn't if I wanted to. Santiago is out of town, no reception. I don't have the friend's number." June groaned.
"Okay, alright. Ugh, probably for the best. Do you know anything else about him? I’ve had kind of a rough day. You said, ex-military right?”
“Yeah, Santi doesn’t really talk about that time, and I haven’t pushed it. I met him a while back, Fish. He’s sweet. I think he’ll be your type. You like tan brunettes?” June nodded, laughing and thinking about Frankie Morales again.
“He’ll be perfect. Doesn’t say much and likes beer, that’s all I know.” Samantha gave a small shrug.
“Alright, thanks. I’ll let you finish eating.” June said, excusing herself.
She left feeling defeated. A parent was going to be late this afternoon, she had gotten the email after the Frankie disaster. Which meant that she was going to be late to dinner. She wasn't killing it in the men department so she hoped that despite a military background he wouldn't mind her tardiness. She couldn't handle another horrible scene like the one from this morning.
The rest of the day was uneventful, which she was glad for. Her nerves were on the edge. She tried to ignore how much Liv favored her dad, and how she loudly told the class about their upcoming camping trip. She found herself listening intently, despite herself. And even chuckled at the girl’s memories of the last trip. June’s mood improved with the day, too. She even played a little music in the background while the kids worked on their worksheets.
By the time she had hauled herself into her car, the last thing she wanted to do was go to dinner. But she swiped on her favorite lipstick and drove to the restaurant. If she broke the speed limit, she would only be about five minutes late, and she pushed it. She wanted to drink some wine, and forget about Frankie Morales. Another tan brunette in her life would do her good, she thought happily. She was tired, but she wanted to make the most of it.
---
Frankie was looking back and forth between the menu and his watch. He couldn't believe that another woman was about to be late on him. He was trying hard to get June out of his mind, and his blind date wasn't making it easy on him. He chuckled when he realized what he was doing. Just meeting a total stranger for dinner. He didn't have much choice in the matter, he thought, remembering how Pope had basically told him where and when, without asking if Frankie was even interested.
She had good taste, he conceded. This was his favorite spot. They made amazing, fresh pasta. He was eyeing the cocktail menu, when she rushed in. He couldn't believe he was running into her again.
It was June, because of course it was. She was flushed, probably late again, he huffed, but she had put on a bright red lipstick that made his heart stutter. He lowered his gaze back to the menu. He hoped she wouldn't see him out on a date, even if he saw her. The hope was short lived because she made her way to him, her eyes glinting with an emotion he couldn't place, and she exhaled deeply.
"Let me guess, your call sign is Fish, right?" His eyes snapped to hers and she laughed while nodding. It was her. He had found her again. The waiter walked over and she told him to bring a bottle of red, and a beer for him. He told the waiter his brand, and raked his eyes over her.
"Sorry I'm late, I had a crazy day." She mused once she had taken two deep sips of her wine.
"Yeah? What is it you do?" He asked, hoping beyond hope that this was their start over. Their fourth, or so, start over.
"Teacher. Yeah, I teach. Most days it's easy, but some days there are parents." She told him, her cheeks flushed.
"Hopefully, no jerks?" He asked, quickly taking a sip of his beer. She held her head to the side before she sighed.
"I don't know what's going on here, Frankie. It's kind of exhausting. I think you're pretty handsome, you grow amazing food, you have a beautiful daughter, but I think we just keep messing up. How about, just for now, we enjoy this meal and the company, and tomorrow we can talk about what it means that we can't keep away from each other?" He searched her eyes. She was tired, he could tell, but she was so sincere. He wanted desperately to know why she sat down instead of just leaving. He wanted to know why they were seemingly so connected. He wanted to know if he'd been on her mind too.
"I'm thinking the carbonara." He answered, and she smiled before looking the menu over herself. The rest could wait. He had found her again.”

UNEXPECTED | Regulus Black, Marauders Era
「 ❁ 」PROMPT 「 ❁ 」
Request // Regulus finds something unexpected—at a Slug Club dinner party, with a girl named Y/N L/N.
「 ❁ 」AUTHOR’S NOTE 「 ❁ 」
Sorry if this sucked.
Tumblr media
        LOVE.
                Even the word itself felt like a promise. It could come like a metaphor, as gentle as misted rain, or it was a broken idea, radiating animosity that maimed worse than misplaced surgical lesions. Some folks went their entire lives without knowing it, feeling it, getting the chance to embrace and relish it—while others did indeed get a taste only for it to scorch like too-hot coffee. A funny little thing, love was. As scary as it was delightful.
        Regulus Black didn’t know much about love. He only knew bleak sun—and a yearning that churned his stomach like butter. If he let his thoughts wander off too far, they’d explore territory too disturbingly foreign he’d have no choice but to retreat. His parents taught him discipline and obedience, but “love” was a rare occurrence; truthfully, the only person who ever even had an inkling of understanding for it was his brother Sirius, and the bastard left Regulus to bleed under the ripe moon. He knew what hatred felt like, same with spite, same with betrayal, same with repulsion.
        Then he descended on the path weary travelers couldn’t cross.
        It all started at the start of his fifth year, getting worse from there. He began noticing the Gryffindor who never stopped challenging professors and requested an extension on nearly every Charms essay. Who always wore an untidy uniform with the shirt untucked, cloak rumpled, and two different stockings. Who could be more quiet than a fairy’s whisper but the loudest personality in the room. Who once punched Giovanni Rivera, some snob in Hufflepuff, so hard in the nose he stayed slumped unconscious by a knight in the open dungeon corridor for an entire night.
        He noticed you.
        It was entirely accidental. Regulus was not someone to dive head-first, always treading the shallow end before walking into riptides that couldn’t be foreseen. He was caution in a world of chaos. He didn’t want to know the definition of “love,” even though he thought that was what he felt for Sirius. Brotherly love. The love someone had for another that protected them, provided for them in times of need. Then Sirius was labelled the family disgrace, shunned by Orion and Walburga; the perfect little Slytherin son, Regulus shunned him too. Regulus lost that feeling and failed to find it again, even in his circle of friends that mocked tainted blood and wanted more than meager lives. They aspired for a Wizarding World cleansed of impure magic; Regulus wasn’t sure what he wanted.
        He quickly became lonely. As the days turned to months then years, he preoccupied himself with his studies—working diligently to fabricate a living lie like he had any future outside of the Dark Lord’s bidding. He envied Sirius for breaking from the family so soon, forcing Regulus into a compromised position; their parents scrutinized him more carefully now and expected more than he would have had to provide if Sirius was the pride-and-joy firstborn they could have turned into a great ally, rather than an adversary.  Regulus hated it, hated that whatever he liked and the little joys he had in life were useless now that he had one reason to live. There was little to his life except growing up to be part of the Dark Lord’s army. Regardless of anything, he did know what he hoped for. The only thing that truly, truly belonged to him was his hope. It was different from his aspirations, as even those were polluted by conditioned hate.
        He watched you frequently. He watched you curse his own brother, Sirius, for calling you a suck-up. He admired your appearance, from your Y/H/L Y/H/C hair to your facial structure, the effortless way you stood and walked, the kindness in your expression when guiding none-the-wiser first years. You were the same year as him, fifth year, and an entire breed of your own. Regulus didn’t know when he began falling for you. Well, the idea of you. You encompassed freedom, and fuck if Regulus didn’t crave freedom. He wanted to see himself careless, able to act out and be himself inconsequentially. This was an impossibility he loved to consider, like a dreamer in a room of realists. His parents expected the most out of him and in his crystal ball, all that laid in wait was the Dark Mark etched in his skin. Death and destruction. His head dark and heavy. It wasn’t happiness that killers strived for—it was pleasure. Power, too. Regulus knew he was different from the others. He had to hide it and fight every inch of himself that wanted what Sirius had. Freedom.
        Regulus wanted to unleash every idea, every desire, every unspoken dislike. A brave heart scratched from under his skin, itching to have a say.
        Sirius was the courageous one, not him.
        He stuck to watching from afar.
-
        You hated Potions class. You hated parties. You hated Slughorn. Most of all, you hated Slug Club parties. Dammit, you hated your life.
        “Why did you drag me here, Lily?” you complained for the umpteenth time, fidgeting in your Gryffindor-red attire. You didn’t even like this shade of red. It was one of those colors you got tired of after seeing at every waking hour. All the assholes that prided themselves in the House the Sorting Hat bellowed, uniquely chosen for them… bleh! Dawning red and gold, parading around in Gryffindor scarfs bought for a bargain. You couldn’t be bothered. Lily had begged that the two of you go in a matching set, as one of your good friends. You never envisioned yourself agreeing. Fucking Lily, conniving you into wearing a dress like looked like it was sewn from a red Christmas stocking and attending a Slug Club party.
        Lily smiled innocently. “You owed me a favor!”
        A favor. You wracked your brain for any situation you’d been a part of where Lily offered her help. As your honorary big sister and a sixth-year prefect, she was the one calling for damage control whenever you did something warranting of punishment… and you didn’t want to fulfill your duties as a serious student. She chastised you at your worst but boosted you up too. Your best consisted of her praise and affection. You loved her, yes, but you didn’t love what owing her favors implied. It always wound you up in some unlikable predicament, such as this godforsaken party.
        “I don’t owe you shite,” you grumbled, pinning your eyes on a table of refreshments over by the door. You belatedly noticed a figure standing by it. The air went still and silent, your blood pulsating like a gushing river of red. Your eyes narrowed just the slightest bit. Regulus Black was sharply—no, impeccably dressed, standing with his glossy dark hair in a neat do and his gray eyes watching the floor indifferently. When he got too close to looking at you, you quickly turned away. Lily was already raising a brow. “What? I don’t.”
        “Yeah, okay,” Lily said amusedly. As she reopened her mouth to remind you of your every last unreturned favor and escaped week of detention, she spotted something over your head and a look of horror struck; you gauged this by the way her eyes bulged at the sockets. “Oh, Merlin—why the bloody Hell is he here? I’ll talk to you later, Y/N. Try to have some fun.”
        She retreated like a squirrel from a hound, her body launching at the occupied Slughorn over half a room away. As she was nearly there a bulk dressed in black dress robes followed, at a tame pace compared to Lily’s. You knew it was James only by the unruly mess of black hair you saw from his enrobed backside profile.
        You rolled your eyes and snuck another glance at Regulus. He wasn’t looking your way.
Try to have some fun, my arse.
-
You were here. Regulus didn’t know how, but you were. He hadn’t calculated what he’d do if you attended this party, not knowing you were a member. He assumed you weren’t, a rash assumption by all accounts, and that costed him. He didn’t want to be dogged by the thought of you all night, and now that your presence was mere feet from him, his mental duties seemed like lost causes. The burning urge to stare at you, consequences be damned, was incinerating—and control failed him left and right. Fucking hell.
Regulus filled a drink for himself. A punch of some kind. He drank it in one go, hoping the taste would eliminate you from his mind. If it were bad enough he could instead be hounded by his throbbing throat, gagging like no tomorrow. That would be better than this.
The punch didn’t work its magic. He looked again at you and calculated the inevitable penalty of making an approach.
        Cursing his luck or lack thereof, he felt less inclined to drown himself in the punch bowl upon the appearance of a bloke he had in Potions, Terrence something. He was a Ravenclaw know-it-all, but he was Pureblood. He could go overlooked conversing with the fellow. Regulus was a master of mimicry and had his haughty Slytherin performance down pat.
        The bloke asked too many questions and was evasive on topics Regulus had no interest in discoursing, but he was a well-welcomed distraction. Or ill-welcomed. Regardless of the reception, Regulus’s ambivalence towards you transitioned to an annoyance towards Terrence. Annoyance, that he could work with. He felt it most days. It was familiar territory. A stroke of olive on a canvas of emerald where you were lavender.
        It worked. It worked until Terrence bid a hasty farewell, trailing after some quiet, expressionless brunette from Slytherin.
        Regulus subtly scowled. Out of the corner of his eye he looked at you, surreptitious in a way he remembered from parties he went to hosted by well-known Pureblood families. You were in mid-conversation with some Gryffindor he knew from a mutual class the three of you shared. It was a bloke whose mouth seemed too keen on keeping a conversation going and hand was swaying too closely to your waist. Regulus’s eyes hardened without his meaning to, and before he knew it, his feet were in complete control; he walked to the two of you with renewed purpose.
-
        You were ready to unleash your inner ugly. Random people kept coming up and trying to talk to you, each of them more mentally-taxing than the last. First there was Cornelius, an absolute walking disaster, then there was Dave, who went on tangents without checking to see if you were listening. Then Kala, then Paisley, then Travis. Finally, there was Justin. Justin was a compulsive flirt. You politely tried to get him to fuck off, but he just wasn’t catching the hint or acknowledging your blatant apathy in what he had to say. He wouldn’t understand discomfort on the part of his conversational partner if it slapped him in the face.
        It was like a blessing and a nightmare when Regulus Black, wearing a cold expression and marginally more perfect up close than he was from a distance, appeared.
        “Can I borrow you for a moment, L/N?” he asked, something off about his voice. Your eyes narrowed. If you had to garner a guess, you’d say he was straining to maintain a calm disposition, truly angry. The cold in his expression was cracking, giving way to heat. Had he noticed your wandering eye and wanted to clarify with you that he had no interest except to exterminate your muddy self from the Wizarding World? You were unsure; it was a common ideology among extremists, the hatred of non-Purebloods, but Regulus didn’t give off that ambiance. He didn’t feel like a future monster.
        “Sure,” you said, sneaking a glance at Justin. Justin’s face wasn’t aggravated at the interruption, just confused that Regulus Black had been the one to interrupt. Regulus kept to himself usually… and he hated anyone who wasn’t pure of blood, supposedly. “Sorry to cut this chat short, Justin. I’m sure there’s plenty of other birds to talk into a stupor around here…”
        Justin’s eyes lit up, disregarding the annoyance in your voice. “You’re right! Thanks, Y/N.”
        You raised your eyebrows at him but bit back a less subtle remark, following Regulus when his hand prompted you at the shoulder.
        “So, what was that back there?” you boldly asked, trying to avoid smirking. It was almost adorable, the way he swooped in and rescued you from a dolt. He couldn’t have approached you just to chastise your invasive stare or threaten you with death. You were taking a chance in assuming he came to save you the burden of dealing with Justin Doley’s bland chatter, but you didn’t care. You really didn’t. It was a sweet gesture if that were his true intention, but a niggling suspicion refused to believe it was. “Thank you, by the way. I was ready to lock my knees just so I could escape.”
        Regulus’s face blanched, a tinge of hot pink flooding his cheeks. His brows made a cute little furrow that gave the impression of a natural unibrow. “Why would you lock your knees?”
        “When you lock your knees, the blood stops circulating and can lead to fainting,” you said. Now you smirked. “Trying to avoid an answer? I’m hurt.”
        He frowned at you. “I’m not trying to avoid anything. It was nothing. You looked uncomfortable…”
        “I was more annoyed than anything,” you said, a correction you weren’t obligated to make. Seeing Regulus squirm was a pleasure on its own. He would already squirm, caught willingly communicating with a Gryffindor, but you had a tendency to go over and beyond in putting others on the spot. It made you a childish shade of giddy both inside and out, not that he would be able to tell. “You don’t have to keep talking to me, you know.”
        “Oh,” Regulus said but didn’t move. He stayed rooted where he was, watching you with a piercing gaze. Now that you were close enough to reach a finger across the distance and graze those gaunt, knife-sharp cheekbones, you ogled him. You knew he was gorgeous from the brief times you interacted and the long, solitary moments you took to dissect him outside lessons, but being so close and with no time limit, you took a chance. Your chance was a rescue mission disguised as a private discussion.
        A smile tore at your lips. “You clean up nice,” you said, your ogling session finished. You could stare at Regulus much longer than you deemed appropriate and actually did, but he was a moment and moments had the ability to pass you swiftly by. In this case, he’d leave without you getting to properly know him. Opportunistic as you were, you wouldn’t let him leave without taking what you could.
        Why would you even want to know him? you asked yourself. He’s probably a Muggleborn-hater. The heart wanted what the heart wanted, try as you might to logicize.
        Regulus frowned. “Thanks,” he said. He hesitantly snaked his eyes up and down your figure, stopping on your neckline. A beautiful necklace with your favorite gemstone adorned it, a gift from a Muggle relative. He cleared his throat aggressively. “You do too.”
        He’s a shy bugger, isn’t he?
        You inched closer, moving on a whim and putting your hand on his arm. Your fingers tightened around the material of his sleeve. He drew closer, like it was instinctive, and your eyelids fluttered as you basked in his perfumed, intimate proximity. You’d regret advancing on a Slytherin, especially one as admired and esteemed yet dark and dangerous as Regulus, but he just had this air about him. Like going from an altitude that took your breath away to one that had enough air to burst you at the seams. Like a butterfly with clipped wings, a scorpion without its stinger. He was tempting, but beautifully broken.
        I know. I just know.
        “When you came over, I thought you were going to confront me on how I haven’t kept my eyes off you all night,” you murmured. You met his gaze evenly, ignoring your pounding heart and fluctuating nerves.
        Regulus froze immediately. “What?”
        “Oh, did you not notice? Silly me,” you said, flaPping a hand like it never mattered in the first place. Truth was, your thoughts were frozen and fixated on his ignorance—ignorance you had just given a reality check. There had been no point, absolutely no hidden objective, in admitting your inability to overlook Regulus. Yet you had—and now he was staring at you like you had turned the color orange and horns magically sprouted from your head.
        Then, like a switch went off that had full control over Regulus’s emotions and the way he expressed them, he smirked. It wasn’t a full smirk, just apparent enough you noticed it. All the tension contorting his face flattened, leaving him like he was relaxed, the opposite of how he looked mere seconds ago. Always the skeptic, you stared at him with narrowed eyes, scrutinizing him from head to toe. He didn’t lose the smirk, his arms crossing over his sleek robes in a devil-may-care fashion.
        “Presumptuous of you to think I ever notice you in the first place,” he said, in that pompous voice you were used to hearing from Sirius’s favorite Slytherin, Severus Snape.
        You laughed at his audacity and, hearing the music change tone and tempo, reached out a hand. You forgot your wit and lost all possible responses to give his arrogant retort. “Dance with me, Black,” you said softly, “before your brother comes to ruin my night, like the prick he is.”
        Regulus raised his eyebrows, but he didn’t deny you. He interlaced his fingers into yours and his free arm, moving at whim and ease, came quickly to your side, enveloping your waist in a delicate embrace. A formal embrace that bespoke of the distance between you, the invisible rift. The dance he swept you in was unfamiliar, but it was simple enough that you could match his pace without tumbling over your own feet.
        You felt everyone staring, but nothing mattered more to you than the feeling of his hand on your waist and the deep, unreadable waters of his foggy gray eyes. He was an enigma that swept coast to coast, tainting the sand with his attendance but leaving wild imaginations to run rampant wondering why he was there, what he did, who he was. Everyone knew of him, but no one knew him. You couldn’t deny you also didn’t know him. Really, you knew nothing about him except that he was a Slytherin in your year, the younger brother to Gryffindor’s infamous playboy, and a supposed Pureblood extremist. You were curious, though, and wanted to know all the dismissive facts that made up his mind and crafted a mental narrative even you found ambiguous. He had consciousness, and there was no way in Merlin’s sodding Hell he was a host to someone else’s thoughts, opinions, and interests the way so many other future killers seemed. Every now and then he showed you something unusual—a mannerism individual to him, words you recoiled back at hearing from his mouth. After he smirked at you and accepted your demand to dance, you lost yourself in the shock of his dismal composure cracking at the folds.
        You never really believed in love.
-
        Regulus never really believed in love.
-
        But if you wandered too far into the bittersweet fantasy of happy endings…
-
        Regulus could get lost.
-
        The song changed again; slow and calm it became. Pressing your cheek to Regulus’s chest, you let the soft fabric of his dress robes sway you into an admittedly false sense of security. The hawk eyes following your every move disappeared with every cyclic step Regulus took. You were hypersensitive to his heartbeat now. It pounded against your cheek like a drumstick, a vibrato of epic proportions. You felt delirious with delight, yet a piece of you was stuck to the path your half-conscious feet made through the slow dance. It’s like you left a trail, and you’d have to pick up the pieces once Regulus became sick of your pathetic antics.
        “Are you asleep?” he asked amusedly, his chest vibrating against you. It rattled you enough to awaken some semblance of nerves.
        “No,” you said, shaking yourself out of the daze. You pulled back from him, bridging enough space to look him in his eyes. He had beautiful eyes a silly girl like you could get lost in. Any girl really. They were pools of fog made of spring mornings and forest hues. You just wanted to kiss his eyelids. What a strange desire, but you felt it all the same…
        Regulus blinked and you were drawn back in the moment. He had said something.
        You hummed in question, your eyebrows raising.
        He shook his head, his face flattening until it was expressionless. “I have to go,” he said. You knew what lies looked like. He was a good liar, but you were a better observer. “I have a matter to discuss with Slughorn.”
        You laughed. “That’s too bad,” you said, voice coming out like a purr. Your hand rose until it settled on his chest; your fingers curled around his robe, until fabric was fisted and cupped into a swirl. “We could have had some fun.”
        “No,” Regulus said firmly. Almost too firmly. His hand jerked up to meet yours and his larger fingers interlaced yours, tugging in an attempt to prompt your release. Your refused to let go. “Y/N.”
        “I like it when you talk all authoritative,” you said teasingly.
        His face blanched and it was enough of a shock to make him lose all incentive to fight the good fight. You took this chance and drew him in, his feet stumbling in a clumsy attempt to regain balance. “Y/N, I—”
        “What are you so afraid of?”
-
        Regulus was afraid of a lot of things. He was afraid of what his parents would do if they figured out he didn’t despise tainted blood the way he was raised to. He was afraid of his peers shunning and scorning him for being caught dead with a Half-blood. He was afraid of losing himself in the moment just to sate his deadened hope and watching you get killed in the crossfire of his foolish, self-indulgent mistakes. He was afraid of many things.
        He would never dare utter those fears aloud.
-
        You watched the conflict flit across his face, erasing itself seconds after.
        “What?” you innocently asked, noting that he had gone stiff. You were unaware to how deep his issues ran. You knew from Sirius’s running mouth that Pureblood households were devoid of tender moments and affectionate caresses. You wanted to imagine an alternative for them, but Sirius was a hellish hailstorm when honest; his feelings were subjective, but his experience was likely to ring alarmingly true. Regulus was quiet and allowed things to fester, so no one would ever know how he felt.
        He looked at you now, a lock where his mouth was. No key in sight. His eyes were piercing and unquestionably inscrutable.
-
        He had to leave before he lost control of his mouth. He couldn’t afford to involve you in his mess. He was a hurricane and you were summer rains. He would destroy you.
-
        “I have somewhere to be,” Regulus said, no room left for an argument. His arms disappeared from around your waist and he tore his eyes away, like it was physically painful to do so.
        You grabbed his wrist before he could melt into the dancing crowd. “Regulus, wait,” you said. You hated the way you sounded. You didn’t know him, but you felt strongly anyway, like he mattered more to you than was plausible for a girl and boy from two separate worlds. You couldn’t explain why you cared; you just did. He hid himself under the pretense of a rich, spoiled Pureblood who stood above the rest. He was hypnotically beautiful and bathed in greens and silvers. He was brilliant in ways Gryffindor House could only aspire to be.
        Regulus didn’t respond to your plea. He stared at you, waiting briefly to hear what you had to say.
        You didn’t have anything to say. You had something to express—and words weren’t always the best at expression.
        You reached up to his face and palmed his cheeks, finding little skin and mostly bone. His cheekbones jerked underneath your grip. His eyes went slightly wide, like he disbelieved you had taken physical initiative with him. Your fingers didn’t dig or tear at his skin, nor did you impulsively decide that you had him in your grip and now was the time to hurt him. You didn’t want to hurt him. You wanted to show him that he didn’t have to be risk-aversive; he could fall clumsily into risk with you and the two of you would make it work. As long as he felt this bizarre, unnatural connection same as you did.
        You’d find out.
        You pressed yourself flush against him and drew your lips until you were a breath away. Then you kissed him.
        The room and its occupants disintegrated, leaving only Regulus and you. Regulus dissolved into putty. His arms went around you again, one of them circling your waist entirely and a hand gripping your hip tight like letting you go would mean you never came back. His lips were soft if slightly chapped, moving against yours like they belonged there; there was no hesitation, no anxious energy. Regulus had lost himself in the moment, same as you. He wasn’t a Pureblood and you weren’t some Half-blood Gryffindor who had spent half the night pinning after a Slytherin who would keel over dead before wanting you. Regulus was different, and you hadn’t failed to sense it.
-
        Regulus abruptly remembered his place and pulled from you. Your eyes were still fluttered shut, and it took several seconds before you noticed he was no longer wrestling with your lips.
        You stared. Regulus wiped all emotion from his face, refusing to let you know he wanted a second kiss. You were not a good deceiver and every emotion you felt showed on your face, from confusion to lust to apprehension.
        “That should not have happened,” Regulus murmured, glancing around. There were people staring; even some of your Gryffindor friends, like Lily Evans and Marlene Mckinnon, were aghast, eyeing the two of you like you had just committed a murder.
        “Why?” you said confrontationally. “Did you regret it?”
        Regulus glanced at you but didn’t say a word.
        You could feel your heart plummet to your gut. “Yeah, okay,” you said, shaking your head. You knew he was being dishonest, but that didn’t stop you from feeling hurt at his blatant favoring of his reputation over a chance at this… this relationship. You jerked out of his slackened grip.
      You fought tears as you walked away.
-
        Regulus watched you go.
        He knew what it felt like when towers crumbled and empires fell, as it happened frequently. His life fell apart more than it came together. He missed you the moment you left but he knew this was for the better. That kiss had meant more than Regulus would ever admit. He felt the connection and he knew there was a future that would happen if he allowed it, if he chose not to intervene. He was the inhibitor of a lot of good things, but he would rather see himself drown than another person swallow their breath underwater.
        So he stared at your retreating back, wishing things were different.

“Dada!” No, Logan couldn't. His throat closes tightly hearing the sound of frantic children racing toward him. Wiping away his nervous tears he stands, the twins waste no time as Logan kneels to nuzzle themselves into him. Emile and Remy, somber faces, approach from behind. “Where's Papa?” Valerie shakes, her fears from the night only arising.
“Um...Patton is…” Logan cant speak, the words catch in his throat, stuck at some border keeping them down. “He’s…” He doesn't wish to beg for assistance, but his eyes beg  to anyone. Everyone avoids him, except…
“Why don't we go get some food?” Emile offers, the twins attention, tired and worn out, and focuses on the doctor. “We can get something for your dad” Emile and Remy work in sync, taking the pair from Logan. Nothing changes but the smallest glint shows his thankfulness. They set off and just as soon as they appeared, they fade into the rush of the midnight hour at the hospital. Cold and dark, Logan wants them back, the aching his body feels as he no longer can feel their presence.
He could see the crowd move, he could hear their mumblings and the world continue on. But he felt numb, like static surrounding him, nothing was there. Silence in this noisy void. Even when Virgil places his hand on the lawyers shoulder it takes a moment to register, then his face only sends him back.
“Hey we he- Patton” It takes almost no time to identify the ooze of blood and the frozen terror in the center of the courtroom. Virgil steps back, a moment of hesitation, Roman rushing by him sparks him back alive. He had never seen a puzzle so broken, so many pieces lost. Logan couldn't speak, but he held so tightly. But to what? Virgil hated it but it didnt look like Patton.
“Hel..help” Logan manages, something in him however was gone. Virgil couldn't look anymore, the pale face, he longed to see the bright smile, promising love as it flashed to all it passed. The sparkle of his eyes, a smart shine closed as they looked empty. Nothing was there, no one was there….
“Uhm Roman Reial, I need an ambulance… the courthouse on Preise Boulevard” He rushes, his breaths short and scared. “A-a gunshot wound...please just hurry” He pleads, Logan continues staring towards the door. The icy blue that sparked with wisdom and his unsuspected and treasured love had melted. They were empty, devoid of purpose to shine.
“We...we’re engaged” He mumbles, Virgil looks to Pattons hands instantly. The scuffed skin didn't distract from the stunning glimmer of the ring around his finger.
“C-come on” Virgil tries “We have to get him out of here...or apply pressure...or stop the bleeding or-”
“Virge breathe” Roman takes his hand, squeezing it gently. Their eyes meet and the dangerous storm dies down in Virgil, finding a light rain should suffice. “He’ll be ok”
“Don't make promises you can't keep” Virgil whispers, listening to a silent Logan crying ever so gently over a fallen love. Roman cups his cheek, the movement feeling natural.
“I'm not” He takes Virgil to the side, calming him as medics and cops file in. The pair are guilty as they ignore Logan's desperate cries, shunning away while Patton, if you can call his lifeless body that was hauled away. Logan sinks again, unable to move, no one makes a sound, the room falls quiet once more. “Logan…” Roman begins, his caution at a high point. The lawyer shakes his head, searching for the words, any words. A simple croak.
“Hes-”
“Dead” Logan mutters “He's dead” He slumps into his chair, Roman and Virgil share uneasy glances.
“What happened?!” The three look up, their eyes landing in unison. A fiery path alight as Barbara marched towards them, Marcy following her footsteps trying to put out the dark. Logan stands, not expecting the rough descent to the physical world. “What did you do?” She spits, desperate as everything falls apart.
“Barb!” Marcy calls, gently removing her from a distant Logan. “Bubbles take a breath, it's not Logan's fault” Marcy assures, stroking ever so delicately to her wife. Barbara tries to conjure an argument but shatters, falling into Marcys arms as she cries.
Shouldn't Logan be doing the same?
Why couldn't he feel the pain?
Had he succumbed...to the dark?
Not too long ago his confusion was riddled with unbearable pain, the sadness too much to feel as it coursed through his veins, practically pumping his breath. He needed Patton, that took something out of him. The name, even the mere thought was too much, a break in his step. Turning rapidly away from this scene, too much of a mirror of his inner turmoil, he walks to the door, and kept going. Ignore, he told himself, ignore the shouts and the concern.
“Patton Hart” He demands, the woman perks up, a note of sympathy accompanies her sweet smile. She dials the phone, hushed whispers before she returns to Logan, the man no doubt seemed insane.
“I'm sorry sir, mister Hart is still in surgery” She informs. “We will send someone out with updates, but please return to the waiting room” She requests, her politeness and formality wasn't something Logan could argue. And it made sense, what was he thinking. Resigned with shame he returns to the group, the moment his sweaty back hits the chair he gives in. The tears just come, you'd think dehydration might be a risk as he sobs with no filter. No one dared move, not even a breath escaped but Barbara's face morphs, she takes his side, clutching hard. If he needed pressure, he was getting it.
Everyone loved him, but these two...it was different. The pain, the absolute grief they felt, couldn't be matched, only sprouted from their passionate love. Even if there's differences between each other, it was intense...and it hurt. And they shared that, how awful…
~~~
“I hear kids” Patton chuckles into the pillow, Logans arms remain around the smaller of the pair. It was true, the feet moved rapidly through the house, the wooden floors revealing their location with coy creaks. Logan groans, nuzzling into Patton not wishing to lose this warmth. “C’mon” Patton giggles, a gentle kiss on Logan's cheek before he sits up. His hair falling perfectly into a fluffed cloud. The pair reach for their glasses, preparing for the wave that approaches them.
“Papa! Dada!” The door bursts and the twins spare no one, jumping into the bed as they pounce on the fathers. Both lawyers fall back, laughing through muffled embraces. The twins had grown immensely, and yet they insisted on Sunday morning hugs.
“Where do you attain all this energy?” Logan wonders, adjusting Remus in front of him, the boy bounces excited. “It's eight in the morning” Logan yawns, Valerie follows suit sitting next to her brother.
“Lo they've only been alive for ten years, they have all the energy in the world” Patton teases, resting his head on Logan's accepting shoulder. “Why don't we give your father some space, come on Ill make you breakfast” Patton takes his time, slipping on his slippers as he leads the eager twins to the kitchen. The skip behind him, humming sweetly as they clutch to his hands.
“Cartoons?” Remus proposes, Patton nods and allows them to set up in front of the couch. The shows blare loud but nothing Patton didn't enjoy or was used to, he begins his work diligently in the kitchen. Never could he gain tired of the sweet bouts of laughter from the children.
“Good morning pop!” Patton turns, a giant grin spreads. Terrence stands idle, his cup tight in his small hands, his smile reflects brightly.
“Well good morning sweetness” Patton greets, kneeling slightly to face the young boy. “What can I do for you?” He offers, Terrence holds out his cup, shaking it gladly. “Juice or water?”
“Juice please! Jamahl sleeping still” He replies, Patton obliges, securing the drink into his hands once more. “Thank you kindly!” He beams, Patton hides a sweet chuckle, his vocabulary increasing everyday. “Hello papa” He waves to a slumbering Logan, hugging his legs before racing off to join his siblings, Logan ruffles his hair watching him go. Patton giggles turning back to his work, the stove ready for the delectable delight.
“Mmm” Logan hums, his arms wrapping gently around Patton's waist. His head falls perfectly on the mans shoulder, burrowing with ease. Patton giggles, the tickles certainly help to awake the man. Logan grows impatient spinning Patton towards him, leaning into a gentle kiss, a nice satisfaction as he pulls away.
“What was that for?” Patton laughs, Logan shrugs returning to his position. He enjoys watching his husband work, the careful manner as he prepares food, the unconscious humming that carries a tune. He places yet another kiss on Patton's cheek, wanting to remain as such forever. They both take a moment to turn to the children, each excited as the animation dances across the stage. Patton takes Logans hands in his own, interlacing their fingers as they watch.
“I want another” Logan yawns, Patton continues his cooking. He shakes his head stirring the coffee pouring two even cups.
“Another kiss?” He jokes, obliging by his own manner. Logan pouts and pulls Patton back to him. “Yes dearest?” He wonders
“Another kid” Logan presses, Pattons amused smile remains but falters a tad. “I mean look at them, they're perfect” Logan smiles, his glasses drooping. Patton adjusts them for him but bites his tongue. “Come on...I was looking and talking to Lia and-” Patton interjects quickly
“Lo I don't want another kid” He admits, his brows furrowed with concern. Logan takes a step back, their hands remain connected.
“I….what?” Logan mutters “I mean...you love kids. And you're wonderful with them. I don't understand…” Patton strokes his cheek, calming the anxiety he can see forming.
“I do love kids. I love Virgils son, I adore Thomas and the twins and Terrence are my life” Patton promises, yet something is off. “I just...I don't want another kid” He restates. “Divine, we are both full time lawyers and I'm on the city counsel. We already have trouble balancing our schedules with them. Adopting a child, no matter the age would be difficult. And it wouldn't be fair on them” Patton explains.
“What about Terrence? And Jamahl?” Logan marvels, scouring his brain. “That was even more dire, you were just out of the hospital a-and you were just starting. I was just beginning to learn what it meant to be a father-”
“And you are amazing at it” Patton smiles, Logan can't find the same urge.
“Terrence was a baby, I mean we could take in a grown child...like Jamahl. Statistics show that they are less likely to be taken in and it would save us the trouble of a newborn and it would be easier to help them adjust and understand” Logan rushes, desperate. “We can do it” He assures, Pattons usual determination, his need to please Logan just couldn't conjure itself.
“I-im sorry Lo, I don't want another kid” Patton laments, finally it seems their hands find their way apart.
“Ok maybe not now, I mean maybe in the future we could-” Logan tries. Pattons hands clutch to the table, the spatula could sink into the counter.
“No Logan you're not hearing me” He whispers, wishing to keep this to themselves. “I don't want another kid, We’ve got two ten year olds. Both who have been through more than any ten year old should. Both also very familiar to a broken home, and wishing for nothing more than to keep what stability they have. We've got a little five year old who despite being just a baby was thrown through system and system and didn't know a stable and safe home until he took his first steps on that carpet over there and his over-protective brother finally trusted us” Patton takes a frustrated breath “We have full careers and If I know you, which I pride myself on, you want it go further and advance” He watches the once expression he hated so much, Logans eyes fall hopeless. He takes his cheeks, aweing so gently. “Logan, my starlight, I love you so much. I love you, and the kids and my job and my friends. I like our life. But I don't want another kid, Jamahls about to go off to college, the twins are going to be in highschool in no time and Terrence is beginning school” Patton serves the now saddened breakfast, moving to the table as he sets it. Molly whines at his feet for food, he wishes to coo but his heart feels heavy.
“Patton I-” Logan begins
“I have to go wake up Jamahl, he has SAT prep and Thomas is coming over soon to play with Terrence” Patton gives another look before disappearing behind the wall. Both take shuddered breaths fearing their own ability to stop tears. The house felt tense, hard to move through, hard to breath. Hard to stay still, why was it shaking?
“Logan” The softest voice cuts through, the lawyer sputters awake, his eyes flutter open. Virgil kneels in front of him, his hands gentle as he places a hold on the man. “He's out of surgery” Virgil informs, Logan nods before fully comprehending Virgil's words. He jumps up, rushing to the doctor who was seemingly reporting to Barbara.
“...he hasn't awoken yet but his vitals are stable for now” The man finishes, thats all Logan needed. “As you are immediate family you can see him, the rest of you will have to wait” Logans heart drops, falling below his knees. Barbara rings her hands but takes Logan.
“This is his husband” The doctor checks his chart, skeptical as to who is listed. “Its recent so he hasn't had time to update it” Barbara adds, Logan would be eternally grateful to her later. Especially as they walk through the forbidden doors and straight down to the room…
His room.
Throughout, very clearly shot with no obstructions, in a mixture of wides and closes, following the action well. I think it's shot from the front of the circle. Once or twice the camera falls but never during key moments, and is quickly fixed. No long blackouts. Audience energy is great. Virtually no dropouts, obstructions and spotlight washout. Filmed more centre than the preview recording by the same master; mix of wides, mediums and some closeups; very good capture of the sets and actor choreography. Both are worth watching. Action is followed well with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The first minute of the show is missing, and the next few minutes are a bit shaky with scattered blackouts, but after "The King of Broadway" it settles and the majority of the show is captured nicely. SPOILER: Before "Keep It Gay" started, when Roger says "What's the word?" someone from the audience shouted out "Gay" which sent the cast into a laughing fit. The Prom - Broadway - August 11, 2019 (Matinee) (Closing Night) (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Caitlin Kinnunen (Emma Nolan), Brooks Ashmanskas (Barry Glickman), Isabelle McCalla (Alyssa Greene), Beth Leavel (Dee Dee Allen), Christopher Sieber (Trent Oliver), Michael Genet (Mr. Hawkins), Angie Schworer (Angie), Courtenay Collins (Mrs. Greene), Josh Lamon (Sheldon Saperstein), Becca Lee (Kaylee), Kalyn West (Shelby), Teddy Toye (Nick), Josh Franklin (Motel Clerk), Drew Redington (Kevin), Courtney Balan (Olivia Keating), Anthony Norman, Brittany Conigatti, Fernell Hogan, Jack Sippel, Jerusha Cavazos, Joomin Hwang, Mary Antonini, Shelby Finnie, Sheldon Henry, Vasthy Mompoint NOTES: Gift upon request. Unobstructed closing performance with the full cast! Starts in the beginning of "Changing Lives" and is a little washed out. For whatever reason my camera was mad at me and didn't want to focus in the beginning of Act One. It warmed up and got better, and to be honest I opted for wider shots because everyone was doing crazy things and I didn't want to miss anything. I stood up for all but one of the standing ovations and when I did so I have no idea what my camera did or what it was looking at. I would say sorry but it wouldn't be true. I'm just so damn proud of all of these people. Please do not post this bootleg publicly! The Prom - Broadway - February, 2019 (NYCG8R's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Caitlin Kinnunen (Emma Nolan), Josh Lamon (u/s Barry Glickman), Isabelle McCalla (Alyssa Greene), Beth Leavel (Dee Dee Allen), Christopher Sieber (Trent Oliver), Michael Genet (Mr. Hawkins), Angie Schworer (Angie), Courtenay Collins (Mrs. Greene), David Josefsberg (u/s Sheldon Saperstein) NOTES: Excellent capture! Josh mistakenly mentions Alyssa in 'Tonight Belongs to You' despite not being meant to know her name at this point. The last three minutes of the show are from a different performance, during previews, with Brooks Ashmanskas as Barry and Josh Lamon as Sheldon, but it is a full video in total. The Prom - Broadway - March, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Gabi Campo (u/s Emma Nolan), Brooks Ashmanskas (Barry Glickman), Isabelle McCalla (Alyssa Greene), Beth Leavel (Dee Dee Allen), Christopher Sieber (Trent Oliver), Michael Potts (Mr. Hawkins), Angie Schworer (Angie), Courtenay Collins (Mrs. Greene), David Josefsberg (u/s Sheldon Saperstein), Becca Lee (Kaylee), Susie Carroll (s/w Shelby), Teddy Toye (Nick), Drew Redington (Kevin), Courtney Balan (Olivia Keating) NOTES: This video starts at "Dance With You" and is super focused on Gabi. There are less heads in this than most of my videos and a railing that gets in the way occasionally, but they were mostly worked around. The cast as a whole is doing top notch work, though at times you can tell that Brooks and Izzy are just back from being sick. Overall this is a really great video of one of my favorite shows, and I'm really proud of myself for containing my crying at the end of act one. The Prom - Pre-Broadway / Atlanta - September 17, 2016 (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Caitlin Kinnunen (Emma Nolan), Brooks Ashmanskas (Barry Glickman), Anna Grace Barlow (Alyssa Greene), Beth Leavel (Dee Dee Allen), Christopher Sieber (Trent Oliver), Martin Moran (Mr. Hawkins), Angie Schworer (Angie), Josh Lamon (Sheldon Saperstein) NOTES: Beautiful HD capture of the Pre-Broadway tryout. A really touching and funny new musical, led by a hilarious cast of Broadway veterans. A perfect mix of comedy and drama.
A dance teacher!Hugh AU that may never see more of it in public than this. Enjoy some fairly contextless fluff and emotional h/c
His phone rings just as he's locking the door to the studio. With leaden movements Hugh digs it out of his coat pocket while depositing the keys in another.
Paul's number. Damn.
He knows he had promised to call Paul sometime during the day so they could schedule their weekend, but it had been so hectic since morning that he hadn't gotten around to it. Like every other day this week. In fact the last several weeks had been stressful at the studio. The downside of success. It should quiet down once Michael got back from San Fransisco, but that wouldn't be for another two weeks' time.
So he guesses Paul finally got tired of waiting for the call and took matters into his own hands. He might as well answer and take the inevitable argument. Hopefully Paul isn't too pissed.
"Hi Paul," Hugh says, trying to sound as neutral as possible.
"Evening sweetheart." Paul doesn't sound angry or even testy, he does in fact sound happy and relaxed. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired. Sore," Hugh admits.
"Mmmm. You really had some tough weeks, why don't you come over?"
"Paul I- I'm really not fit as company tonight, too worn out."
"You don't have to be fit for company, you just have to be here. It's been over two weeks since we had more than brief conversations on the phone or a short exchange of texts. I really would like to see my boyfriend in the flesh once in a while."
Hugh can't deny the truth of that but part of him, the part of him that all too vividly recall how Terrence would try to guilt him over prioritizing his studio and professional life, rebels.
"Paul, I'm not going to abandon what I've worked so hard to build. Not for anyone," he snaps.
"I don't want you to do that. But I've noticed how hard you've been working these past weeks and how tired you are. I'd like a chance to look after you for one evening. I was thinking something along the lines of you having a long soak in my hot tub, loosen up those sore muscles, while I finish cooking you a warm, hearty meal. After we finish eating we can cuddle on the sofa together or just go straight to bed and cuddle there if you'd rather that."
Now Hugh does feel bad. Another reminder that Paul isn't Terrence, not in any way, shape or form.
"Sounds like you already started dinner," Hugh says apologetically, hoping Paul doesn't take affront of his angry outburst.
"Well yes. I was really hoping I could talk you into this idea of mine."
"Consider me convinced," Hugh answers.
"So I'll see you in a few?" Paul asks and Hugh can practically hear the smile in his voice. "Or do you want me to pick you up? If you feel too tired to drive?"
"I'm good to drive that short a distance, just mind your cooking," Hugh jokes. "I'll see you in a little while."
When he gets to Paul’s apartment building Hugh is all but done in and part of him just want to turn around and head home. But he made a promise and it has been too long since he and Paul met in person, even though he suspects that they’ll both end up finding tonight a disappointment.
Ringing on the door phone Paul buzzes him in and he drags himself up the stairs to Paul’s front door. It’s been left slightly ajar, welcoming him in.
“Hi honey,” Hugh calls as he steps into the small hall and closes the door behind himself.
Paul appears almost instantly in the doorway leading to the kitchen wearing an apron of all things. It makes him look almost ridiculously adorable in Hugh's opinion.
“Hi,” Paul says in turn, stepping up to Hugh, cupping his face and giving him a peck on the lips. “Ugh, you cold. Good thing then I already drew that bath. All you need to do is get out of your clothes and you don't usually have a problem with that.”
Paul wiggles his eyebrows as he finishes his sentence and Hugh can't keep from chuckling.
“Hey,” he says as he hangs up his coat and removes his shoes. “I can't remember ever hearing you complain about that before.”
“Wasn't a complain,” Paul says giving him another short kiss. “Just an observation. Now get in the bath with you and I'll continue dinner.”
Paul heads back into the kitchen and Hugh opens the door to the bathroom. It is dimly lit and the air is warm and damp with steam from the already filled tub. Stripping down he slips into the bath, groaning softly as the hot water engulfs him. Resting his arms on the side of the tub he leans back his head against the edge and closes his eyes, relaxing and letting the water do its work on his sore muscles.
He had left the door to the rest of the apartment open and he can hear Paul putter about in the kitchen, humming softly to one of those old jazz tunes he loves so much that is playing mutedly in the background and the smell of cooking food is wafting through the air.
The humming comes closer and Hugh sense a shadow fall across the room from the hall.
“Do you want a drink?” Paul asks him when Hugh turns his head towards him, cracking one eye open.
“Paul, you don't have to do all this,” Hugh protests, not sure how he'll reciprocate what feels like a very lavish treatment.
“Have to? No. But I want to,” Paul says warmly. “So, drink?”
“No alcohol, it would just put me straight to sleep.”
“Coffee instead?”
Hugh nods slowly.
“With some caffeine I might stay awake through dinner.”
“You really have worn yourself out, haven’t you? Well one coffee coming right up.”
Paul disappears out the door and back to the kitchen, leaving Hugh staring after him with a frown. He sits back in the tub but doesn’t quite relax, not knowing what to make of it all. This, Paul cooking for him, the bath, the coffee, it feels significant somehow but Hugh isn’t quite able to word how. It feels... intimate in a way they haven’t been before.
Not that they haven’t eaten together, breakfast, dinner and lunch. They’ve slept together in the metaphorical sense as well as the literal. Until tonight Hugh would have said that the only way they could get closer was by moving in together and that’s not what this is.
Or maybe it is. In a way. Not the literal moving together of finding a common home in one of their apartments, or in a new place, but finding, no making, a space in their lives for each other, even when it wasn’t convenient.
And Hugh isn’t sure how he feels about that at all. If he was to be brutally honest with himself he knows he has been keeping Paul at arms lengths, letting him in but only so far. Terrence and all his controlling, jealous bullshit has left him hesitant to let others in quite that far, the only ones there are those from before he broke up with him. After that no one had been allowed that close and certainly not a lover.
But Paul?
“Is something the matter? You look very serious,” Paul says stepping into the bathroom holding a steaming cup of coffee in one hand. He crouches down next to Hugh, handing him the cup.
“It’s nothing.”
“It doesn’t look like nothing.”
“I’m not really ready to talk about it.”
“Okay.” Paul caresses his should. “But when you are, remember that I’m here.”
“I know. It’s just- I'm not sure.”
A loud ding interrupts Hugh before he can say anything else.
“Damn,” Paul swears. “The lasagna. One moment, I don’t want it to burn.”
Jumping to his feet he bolts out the door.
So it had been Paul’s special vegetable lasagna he had smelled. Paul had made it the first time he’d had Hugh over for dinner and Hugh had loved it. He also knows how much effort it is and that Paul rarely makes it without a specific occasion. Paul had begun that not even knowing if Hugh would come over.
Hugh takes a sip of his coffee. It’s hot, strong and with a dash of milk, just like he likes it. Terrence had never bothered learning it, or maybe he had deliberately always gotten it wrong so he had to make coffee less often. But Paul not only knew how to get it right, being a tea drinker himself he hadn’t even had coffee in his home when they met, but he’d started buying it after they started dating.
“Sorry about running out on you like that, I didn’t want the food to burn,” Paul says as he returns, crouching down again beside the tub.
“Your special lasagna?”
Paul nods.
“What’s the occasion?” Hugh asks.
“That you’ve been working hard for weeks and deserve a treat.” Paul cups the back of Hugh’s neck. “I can see how worn down you are. I’m not telling you to stop doing what you so clearly love, or to cut back. Just let me look after you for a night? I don’t want to see your star burn out.”
With that Hugh suddenly feels tears spilling down his cheeks, blurring his vision.
“Hey,” Paul says softly, removing the mug from Hugh’s hand and pulling him into a hug.
“I’m soaking you,” Hugh protests, his voice muffled as his face is buried against Paul’s shoulder.
“It’s my apartment, I’ll find another shirt to wear. It’s okay Hugh, I’ve got you.”
Paul is hugging him fiercely and Hugh let himself cry out though he’s not quite sure why he’s crying at all.
When he pulls back Paul brushes the last tears away with his fingers.
“Feel better?” he asks.
Hugh nods.
“Yes. Not sure what happened there.”
Paul says nothing, he just offers Hugh a gentle smile and a kiss.
“I need to check on the rest of the food. Finish your coffee and when you’re done soaking come join me for dinner.”
Dinner itself is lovely. Paul has made up a picnic like setting in front of the fireplace. It’s not cold enough for a fire but still it’s nice and the informality makes Hugh relax further.
They talk about how their days have been since they were last together, about things they’d like to do together once Hugh has more time again and by the time dinner is done Hugh can feel the full weight of exhaustion built up by the past weeks, but also deeply happy.
“I’m glad you talked me into coming over,” he tells Paul as they lie in bed, his head resting on Paul’s chest. He feels warm and relaxed, and more at peace with himself and the world than he can recall being in a while outside of dancing.
“So am I. I like having you over. Just... having you here.”
“You know,” Hugh says after a few moments of silence. “I’ve been thinking. Maybe I could keep some clothes here? Just a spare shirt or something like that? Would make it easier in the morning not having to go home to change.”
In spite both of them semi frequently sleeping over at the other’s place Hugh had never left any clothes or anything of his at Paul’s and Paul had never asked, perhaps sensing that Hugh needed control of his own space, if it was okay that he kept something at Hugh’s.
“If that’s okay,” Hugh finishes softly.
“It would,” Paul says slowly. “I’m sure I can clear a shelf or two for you.”
“You could keep something at my place too. So you wouldn’t have to rush back either.”
“You don’t mind? Me keeping some shirt or something at your place? Or shifting some of your things to here?”
“No. No I don’t.”
Hugh realizes the truth of those words as he says them. But still they feel monumental. An invitation and an offer to stay, to take up space in each other’s lives, even when it’s not convenient.
Only Us (Part 1)
Part of the Berry Done AU
Words: 5474 Desc.: Thomas and Logan have always been close. From the moment Logan was born, Thomas swore he’d do anything for his baby brother. Unfortunately, it was a promise to be taken to the extremes. TW:  Character death (mentioned), bullying
Strap in because this is one heck of a backstory.
///
Thomas sat in the waiting room of the hospital. Every once in a while a nurse or some other staff member would ask him if he was okay or if he needed something, but he would respond that he was waiting to have a baby brother. A couple of them continued their concern by asking if he had any relatives to sit with and Thomas simply said it was just him.
He sat there for a while, dangling his feet, without a word on how his mother -- Abigail -- was doing. He didn’t quite understand how childbirth worked, but he was pretty sure that it might hurt a bit. Didn’t someone always come and say how the patient is doing in the movies? Maybe that was different for pregnant people. He didn’t know for sure. What he did know was that he was getting really bored.
After what felt like an eternity, Thomas’s father came into the waiting room. Thomas lept off of the seat and bounded toward his father, asking a million questions at once.
“Slow down, Thomas,” his father said with a twinkle in his eye. “Don’t you want to meet Logan?”
~~~
Logan wasn’t even a year old when their father left.  At the time, Thomas had no idea why he even left at all. It didn’t make any sense. He thought that maybe his dad didn't like Logan or maybe Thomas did something wrong to cause him to leave. He didn’t color in the lines on that coloring page he gave him once -- was that it?
Thomas thought his mother didn’t care much. She showed herself to be happy and even cheered him up when he cried about not having a dad anymore. He learned he was wrong, though. He found her sobbing on the couch after he was supposed to be in bed one night. After that, he tried his best to be there for his mother and help her out if she ever needed it.
By the time Logan was a little over a year, Thomas had become a secondary caregiver.
He minded a little bit at first since part of him wanted to blame Logan for their dad leaving forever, but he let it go after a while. There was no way anyone would leave because of Logan -- Logan was adorable! He had the cutest chubby cheeks and the softest brown hair ever. He would laugh whenever Thomas made a silly face or smile when their mom talked to him. Sure, he had to see the doctor a lot, but he was the best baby brother in the whole world.
“Bye, Logan,” Thomas chirped to his sibling sitting in the high chair. He had to walk down to the corner to catch the bus for school -- he could do it on his own now! “Mom, I’m leaving now.”
“No!”
Thomas paused with his hand on the front doorknob. He peered around the wall to see Logan with a tiny scowl on his face. “Did you just...?” Thomas grinned. “Mom! Mommy! Logan said his first word.”
“He did?” Abigail’s voice came from the hall. “Oh, I can’t believe I missed it. What did he say?”
“‘No’.”
“‘No’?” She walked down the hall with an amused grin. “Out of all the words...” She shook her head.
“I don't think he wants me to go to school.” Thomas shrugged. “Guess I’ll have to stay home.” He tried to walk around her.
She grabbed the handle of his backpack. “Nice try, Thomas.”
~~~
“No.”
Thomas groaned. “C’mon, bear, it’ll be fun.”
Logan pouted. “I don’t wanna.”
“Mom.” Thomas draped over the couch dramatically. “Logan doesn’t wanna go trick-or-treating with me.”
Thomas, being ten-years-old, had been allowed to go trick-or-treating with his friends next week. He didn’t want Logan to miss out on any of the fun. It wouldn’t have been fair for Thomas to go out and get candy while Logan stayed inside and didn’t get anything.
“Well, if he doesn’t want to go then he doesn’t have to,” she responded with a smile. “He can just stay with me and hand out candy.”
“But why hand out candy when he can get candy?”
His mother smirked. She turned to the chair Logan was sitting on. “Logan, baby, would you rather stay here with me or go get candy with Thomas?”
Logan crossed his arms -- or rather, did an imitation of it -- and frowned. “I wanna stay here.” He had a little lisp that he hadn’t grown out of yet.
Thomas picked himself up enough to see Logan. “But if you come with me then you get to dress up as whatever you want.”
Logan dropped his arms. “Whatever I want?”
“Whatever you want.”
That’s how Logan ended up going trick-or-treating with Thomas. They had to do some last-minute things in order to get the costume that Logan wanted, but it all worked out. Their mother was quite talented.
When Halloween night rolled around, the two were ready to go. Thomas was so excited to go out and get candy with his friends and brother, that when it was time to go he ran out the door. He almost brought down both Valerie and Terrence. Logan walked out calmly after him.
“Keep an eye out for your brother,” Abigail chided from the doorway. “Don’t stay out too late. And all of you kids stay together, alright?”
There were various confirmations from the four children. This would be their first year trick-or-treating without an adult. It was exciting for them. Having three ten-year-olds and a five-year-old wandering the dark neighborhood by themselves might have caused many grown-ups to go into a panic, but luckily, the parents of these children were more than willing to give it a shot.
“We have to hit as many houses as we can,” Valerie said. She was dressed as Belle. “My mom gave me extra bags just in case.”
“My brother showed me a few houses on the next block that have full-sized candy bars,” Terrence mentioned. He decided to go as a zombie this year. “Maybe we could go there?”
“We gotta get the neighborhood first.” Valerie turned over her shoulder. “What do you think, Thomas?”
“Great.” Thomas was a hundred percent on board for anything. He dressed as Spider-Man for a reason and that was to get as much candy as possible from the adults that thought he was cute. “What about you, little astronaut? Think you can handle that?”
Logan nodded. The visor from his helmet fell over his eyes.
The four of them went from house to house, gathering comments on how cute they were about as much as they gained candy. A grandma or two even gave Logan some extra because the visor from his helmet kept falling over his eyes. That's when the three older kids decided that Logan should be in front at all houses. If they saw the cutest of them first, then maybe they might end up with more candy. For the most part, their theory was supported. It worked the best with mothers and grandparents.
They tried to stay clear of the houses that seemed extra scary. They attempted to approach one, but Logan refused to even set foot in the driveway. Not even Thomas could persuade him to go.
Other than that, they were having a great time. They all had to use Valerie's extra bags to hold all their candy. Thomas had to help Logan with his since it got too heavy for him.
"Okay," Valerie sighed. She set down her bags of candy on the curb. "I think we have enough room for a few more houses."
"But I'm tired," Logan grumbled. He moved his head and the visor came down.
"We're almost done, bear." Thomas moved the visor for him.
Valerie stretched out her fingers. "Do you know any more good houses, Terrence?"
"There's one at the corner." Terrence used his shoulder to motion in the direction of the house. "That might be enough to fill the rest of our bags."
The four of them started making their way down the street. Thomas kept having to make sure Logan didn't fall too far behind.
But the night was starting to change. A lot of the kids their age were starting to head back home. Most of the kids still out were older -- teenagers. A lot of them weren't even trick-or-treating and instead just hanging around outside.
After maneuvering through a big group of kids moving in the opposite direction, Thomas and his friends made it.
"You're up, bear," Thomas said. He glanced at his side only to do a double-take. "Logan?" His brother wasn't there. "Logan?!"
"What's wrong?" Terrence asked.
Thomas started panicking. "Logan's gone." He looked around. "Logan?"
Valerie gasped. "We have to find him. C'mon." She led the two boys back the way they came.
The three of them began calling out to Logan and asking adults if they had seen a little astronaut around. Thomas tried his best to not start crying.
All he could think about was losing his baby brother forever and how angry his mother would be. How could he do this? He thought Logan had been next to him this whole time. What would he do if they couldn't find him?
"He's right there!" Valerie grabbed Terrence and Thomas's arms.
Logan was standing in the middle of the sidewalk. He looked tinier than usual. As if he was trying to hide within himself.
Thomas broke free of Valerie's grasp. "Logan!" He dropped his candy bags so nothing could hold him back as he ran.
Logan spun around, making his visor fall. When he pulled it up, Thomas could see that he had been crying.
He scooped his little astronaut into his arms.
"T-T -- omas," Logan choked out. "I, I c-couldn't. I was, I was lost a-and --"
"I'm here, bear." Thomas managed to keep himself composed. "I'm sorry I lost you. It won't happen again, I promise."
"I w-wanna go ho-ome."
Thomas looked up at his friends. They looked back at him with concern. "We will."
Just as Thomas was about to get up to lead everyone back, two figures with masks came up behind them. They shouted indiscernible noises to scare the children. It worked.
The four kids screamed and ran. Thomas held Logan in his arms the whole way back, candy forgot on the ground for those teenagers to take.
~~~
One September day, Logan came home in a bitter mood. He was snappy and angry and very unlike his usual self. Abigail assumed it was due to starting up in first grade, but Thomas thought it deeper than that. Regardless, they both encouraged Logan to tell them what was wrong. He refused every time.
This continued to happen every day for the rest of the month.
After a particularly bad day, with Logan almost in tears, Thomas decided to intervene. There would be an hour or two before their mother got home.
“What happened today at school, bear?”
Logan climbed onto the couch next to Thomas. “Nothing.” He crossed his arms and scowled.
“So you didn’t learn anything or make new friends?” Thomas was determined to figure this out.
Logan’s scowl deepened. “No.”
Thomas frowned a bit. He scooted himself off the couch to kneel in front of Logan like their mom does when she talks about something serious. “You can tell me anything, Logan. I get if you don’t wanna tell Mom, but she’s not here right now.” He tried to give an encouraging smile. “I won’t tell her if you don’t want me to.”
Logan stared at him for a moment. “Promise?”
“Promise.”
“I-it’s just a stupid reason.” His pronunciation came out with strong ‘th’ sounds instead of the actual ‘s’. It caused him to frown. “Never mind, I don’t wanna talk about it.” He tried to get off the couch.
“Hey, wait.” Thomas put his hands on his shoulders to keep him in place. “I’m not gonna make fun of you or anything. I’m your brother, Logan, I wouldn’t ever do that.”
Fresh tears began to glisten in Logan’s eyes. “B-but, I -- but everyone --” They started falling. “Everyone else does. They do it all the time.”
Thomas’s heart clenched. “Why would they do that?”
“I talk funny.” Logan twisted the end of his shirt in his hands. “I don’t say things right.”
“There’s nothing wrong with how you talk.” Thomas frowned. Yes, Logan had a bit of a lisp that he hadn’t grown out of, but nothing was wrong with that. That was just how he talked.
Logan didn’t say anything to that.
“Hey, I’m serious.”
Logan didn’t look at him. “I just wanna go to my room.”
Thomas frowned but let him go anyway. It didn’t seem as if there was anything he could do right now to help.
So when their mom got home he may have mentioned how insecure Logan was feeling with his lisp. He didn’t want to break a promise, but his baby brother needed to get through this. And the only way for that to happen is to get their mother involved.
She was super smart -- she would know what to do.
Most of this was a blur to Thomas at the time. He remembers Logan beginning speech therapy and a lot more talking going on in the house than usual. Their mother would consistently practice with Logan whenever she was home. She began reading bedtime stories and poems to get Logan more comfortable about reading out loud (sometimes Thomas joined in, other times he pretended he was too old for storytime).
It was all one big swirl of reading and speaking. Often times it got hard to keep Logan motivated; the kids at school continued to tease him. Thomas remembers their mother having to go down to the school to talk with Logan’s teacher about it.
He didn’t have any friends. He didn’t have anyone to play with during recess. He spent most of his time alone and was always the one left without a partner for classwork.
Thomas thought it was pretty unfair. Nothing was wrong with Logan. Those kids were just being mean.
Then one day, for the first time ever, Logan came out of class smiling. Thomas stood amongst other parents, as he usually did, ignoring their typical worried stares for a more pressing matter. He had never seen Logan like this before.
Logan’s smile got wider when he spotted Thomas. He ran up to him and gave him a hug.
Thomas almost stumbled back from the velocity of such a tiny body crashing into him. “Hey, bear,” he couldn’t help but laugh. “You seem excited today.”
Logan nodded into his chest. He pulled back to say, “I have something to be excited about.”
“Oh really?” Thomas grinned at him. “Maybe you can tell me on our way home.”
The whole way back, Logan couldn’t stop buzzing with excitement. A new girl joined their class. She ignored all those mean kids and decided to hang out with Logan. They spent the whole day together! They played in the sandbox and she taught him how to make flower crowns. She didn’t make fun of him or anything, either. Her name was Cara.
Thomas felt his chest warm up at his baby brother’s happiness. He made a friend.
Once their mom got home, Logan told her all about Cara. He still didn’t lose any of his excitement. This might have been the most energetic they had ever seen him.
“Well, she sounds lovely, baby,” Abigail said with a smile. She ruffled her son’s hair. “But I have a little surprise for you.” She laughed a bit at his wide eyes. “Would you like to see it?”
“Yes, yes!” Logan bounced up and down.
She laughed again. “Alright, settle down.” She rooted around her purse. “I know it’s in here somewhere...” She pretended to search hard for something and gave Thomas a wink. “Ah, here it is.” Out came a plastic bag from the store. She handed it to Logan.
Logan reached inside and pulled out a book. An interesting shade of blue with an illustration of a boy and a clock-dog. “The Ph -- Pha -- uh --” Logan blinked at it. He looked up at his mother. “What does it say?”
“The Phantom Tollbooth.” She knelt down to his level. “I figured we could read it together. I thought you’d like a new bedtime story.”
Logan’s eyes lit up. “Can we read it tonight?”
“Of course.” She kissed his forehead. “Would you like to join us, Thomas?”
Thomas wanted to say no, but he saw the expression on Logan’s face and didn’t have much of a choice. “Sure.”
~~~
Logan and Cara continued to be close friends throughout elementary school. She would come over often to play and would stay until the sun went down. She really helped to turn around Logan’s view on things; she was such a positive, bubbly kid.
“They’re so cute,” Valerie sighed as she looked at the two kids playing.
Thomas glanced over at them. They were trying to make a house of cards. Anytime it fell down Cara would giggle instead of getting upset. “Yeah.”
“Do you think they like each other?” Terrance asked. “As in like-like each other?”
“‘Like-like’?” Thomas couldn’t help but raise a brow at that word choice. But no, as far as he knew Logan did not “like-like” anybody. “He’s never actually shown interest in girls. Or boys. Or anyone really.” He shrugged. “I don’t think he’s going to have any crushes any time soon.”
“Really?” Valerie took her eyes off the kids to move them towards Thomas. “What makes you so sure?”
He shrugged again. “I dunno. Just a feeling I guess. He’s never talked about anyone in that way before.”
“Maybe that’ll change soon.” She smiled. “He’ll be going into fourth grade, right? Maybe someone will catch his eye.”
“That’s when I had my first real crush,” Terrance sighed wistfully. “Those were great times.”
Thomas went quiet as Valerie and Terrance started talking about crushes. He didn’t know why, but talking about Logan getting his own crush gave him a bad taste in his mouth. It didn’t seem right. Logan never said if a girl was pretty or if a boy did something nice for him. He only valued Cara’s friendship. And that seemed as far as he would go.
Funnily enough, that topic would come up again a few days later.
“Mama,” Logan started, his voice quieter than usual.
Thomas was at the kitchen table doing math homework. Their mother was cooking dinner but would stop by to help him every once in a while. That’s where she was when Logan came out.
“Yes, baby?” She pointed at the number Thomas needed to move.
“Do you think I’m weird?”
They both stopped what they were doing to look up at him.
“Of course not.” She frowned. “Why would you ask that? Did someone call you weird?”
Logan shrugged. He toed at the ground. “One of Cara’s friends asked if I liked anybody and then said it was weird when I said no. She kept telling me that I had to like somebody.”
“And what did Cara say about that?”
A small smile graced Logan’s lips. “She pushed her in the sand and told her not to make fun of me.”
Thomas laughed a bit. He would have done the same thing.
Abigail moved around to the other side of the table. She knelt to be eye-level with her son. “Logan, baby, it’s okay if you don’t like someone right now. It’s okay if you never like anyone, even. Just because you think a little different doesn’t mean you’re weird -- you’re just unique. So don’t let anyone ever tell you you have to be a certain way, alright?”
Logan nodded. “Alright.”
She smiled and ruffled his hair. “And tell Cara not to beat up any more girls.”
“I’ll think about it.” He giggled.
Logan never had another issue about crushes again.
The following year, Cara taught Logan something that would change his life forever. It might have seemed dramatic for something so simple, but it was true. This would end up being a big deal in his future.
“You can play guitar?!”
Cara giggled at Logan’s expression. “Only a little bit. I got it for my birthday last year and I’ve been trying to learn it.” She shifted the guitar so it sat better on her lap. Compared to her size, it was rather big.
“That’s so cool.” Logan grinned at her. His lisp had long since vanished, though part of him still expected it to come out and someone to make fun of him.
“You think so?” Cara returned his grin. “Do you wanna learn with me?”
Logan beamed. “Can I?”
“Only if you want to.”
“Yes!”
Cara’s grin widened.
They spent the rest of the year learning together. Logan went over every other day of the week. He picked it up a lot faster than any of them realized. He was pretty good at it. Cara’s mother insisted he was a natural, which always made his face get really hot. He just liked to learn and had a good teacher. Abigail laughed softly, making a passing comment about him being humble. He wasn’t quite sure he knew what that meant yet.
When summer rolled around, Logan and Cara were free to hang out whenever they wanted. Cara didn’t have any siblings, but she had both of her parents. She got everything she asked for (not that she ever asked for much), and Logan wondered if that was due to her being an only child or because having both parents made it easier. Her house had more space, her room had more toys, and she didn’t have to share it. She shared it with Logan, though. She often asked if he could spend the night. The answer was always yes.
The first time Logan ever slept over, his mother was hesitant to let him go. He never had friends to sleep over with before. And he had bad experiences with kids teasing him. And he was her baby. And he was so small. And he needed to be protected. And --
Thomas convinced her to let him go.
It was fun.
After seeing that nothing went wrong, he was allowed to do it again. (But that didn’t stop Abigail from scooping her son in her arms and peppering him with kisses the very next morning.)
So tonight, Logan sat on the floor of Cara’s bedroom with her guitar in his hands. He strummed at it idly, messing around with cords rather than playing a song. Cara watched him from her bed. Her hands were folded over the edge of her bedpost with her head resting on top. One of her legs hung off, and she swung it in time to the soft changes in keys.
“You’re really good,” she muttered, her voice pouring out like dazed honey.
Logan paused, his cheeks getting warm, before trying to use familiar cords to flesh out a song he heard earlier. “I-I’m okay.” He didn’t know why everyone insisted he was good. He didn’t get it. He only did what he was taught.
Cara smiled, a soft lazy thing compared to her normal Cheshire grins. “You’re gonna be, like, a rockstar when you’re grown up.”
Logan scrunched his nose. “No.”
“Then what are you gonna be?”
He didn’t know. Two years ago he wanted to be a doctor. He shrugged.
“Well, I’m gonna be a dancer.” She hopped to her feet and did a very elegant plie, followed by a releve -- naturally. “And I’m gonna be really good and dance all over the world.” She attempted a pirouette, but it wasn’t as elegant. “And you can be there playing songs for me to dance to, and we’ll both be really good together.”
Logan stopped. Somehow, he felt that wasn’t practical, but he didn’t care very much. Not right now, anyway. He smiled at her, something bubbling in his chest at being a really good team. “We have to be grown-up first.”
Cara blew a raspberry and waved her hand. “We’ll be grown up, like, tomorrow.” She fell back on her bed.
“That’s not how that works.”
She blew another raspberry.
Logan set the guitar to the side and jumped on the bed, earning a surprised squeal from Cara. He blew a raspberry on her cheek.
Aw, gross!” Despite her disgust, she laughed as she tried to push him away. “You’re gonna pay for that.” She rolled on top of him and ran her wiggling fingers up and down his sides.
The reaction was immediate. He burst into laughter, trying to get away from her hands. “No, no, no! S-stop!”
“Say that I win.”
“Never!”
She paused only to grin at him, the tips of their noses almost touching. “Then you leave me no choice.” She bent down and pushed his shirt up. Before he had time to react, she blew a big raspberry onto his exposed tummy.
He squealed with laughter. “Stop! O-okay -- okay! You win. Stop it. I, I c-can’t breathe.” He tried to push her head away.
She popped up with a smile. “Was that so hard?”
Logan could only giggle in response.
A knock came from the door. “You two better be getting to bed. It’s getting late,” Cara’s mother scolded from the other side.
“We will,” Cara responded, knowing full well they weren’t.
They did, however, turn off the light. They both sat under the blankets of Cara’s bed with a flashlight. At first, it was to tell scary stories, but it tapered off into something else. Something softer. They talked about each other, about their families. Their hopes and their dreams. They were going to head into sixth grade soon.
“I hope we’re friends forever,” Cara whispered.
Logan wished the same.
They fell asleep that night close together, sharing the same blanket.
~~~
Cara left two months into the sixth grade.
She had to move.
She came to Logan crying about it, which shocked him. He hadn’t seen her cry before. No matter how many times she got frustrated, or how many times she skinned her knee, she always held back her tears. She was tough. Logan wished he could be that way sometimes.
But that day she came to him in tears was the day he knew something was very, very wrong. And she told him her dad got a new job. Somewhere far away. Somewhere away from Logan.
It didn’t feel fair.
Logan had to watch his best and only friend go away. He had to watch as she paid less and less attention to school because it didn’t even matter in the end. She wouldn’t stay long. Cara had always been a good student. It didn’t seem right to see her ignore assignments. But maybe she was right. These teachers would never see her again, anyway.
The day Cara moved was sunny. A perfect Saturday afternoon.
Yet Logan hated it.
Before she left for good, she stopped by his house. Of course she did. There was no way she would leave without a final goodbye. And there was no way her parents would say no to her.
Logan remembered this moment better than most of his childhood memories. Whenever he thought back on it, it always felt fresh. Like Cara had left yesterday with his heart shattered in pieces.
Her parents stayed in the car while she walked up the front lawn. Her guitar case was strapped to her back, but she ignored the slight trouble it gave her. Thomas and Abigail remained on the porch as Logan rushed forward to meet her at the edge of the grass.
“Hi,” she said softly.
Logan swallowed the lump in his throat.
“Um.” She messed with the strap. “I...” When she couldn’t seem to find the right words, she slipped off the case and handed it to him. “Here.”
Logan blinked. “What?”
“You’re really good a-and I’m not, but that’s okay. I-I enjoyed watching you play it more than I played it.” She slipped her fingers away. “I want you to have it.”
He didn’t know what to say. The lump in his throat started to sting. “Thank you.”
Cara nodded, but that seemed to be the last of her composure. Her eyes got watery and her face twisted to hold in any sobs. She threw her arms around Logan to pull him into a tight hug. “I’m gonna miss you.”
Logan tried not to cry. So he didn’t speak.
“Promise you won’t stop playing.”
He nodded.
She pulled away, her hands lingering on his shoulders. Then she gave him a quick peck on the cheek. “We’re gonna meet again someday.” Without waiting for a response (or otherwise she might start bawling), she headed back down the lawn.
And that was enough for Logan to start crying. He put his face in his mother’s side, unable to see his best friend drive away and out of his life.
He didn’t know how he was going to get through middle school without Cara. He had no one else to turn to. Most of the kids in his grade followed him from elementary school. They never learned to like him, and they had their own friend groups established a long time ago. He would never fit in with them. And he was convinced this was the worst moment of his life.
He was proved wrong, of course.
It was a year after Cara left. April. There was an accident.
Logan didn’t remember hearing the news. He knew that he did. He had to. He just... couldn’t wrap his head around it. It was unbelievable. It wasn’t real. Those words were never meant to be arranged in that way and spoken into existence.
Thomas broke down and sobbed as soon as the policeman left. But Logan didn’t. He still didn’t understand what was going on. It still didn’t feel real.
So Logan just went through the motions after that. He had a sandwich for dinner. Just to have something. He wasn’t sure if Thomas ate anything at all. Then he went to bed. But he didn’t sleep. He had The Phantom Tolbooth in his hands, yet the words on the pages were foreign to him. As he attempted to read something despite his blank mind, Thomas came in to check on him.
He sat on the edge of the bed but struggled to say anything at all. “Are you... okay?”
Logan didn’t know how to respond. He didn’t feel anything. Instead, he whispered, “What do we do now?”
Thomas paused. His eyes were still puffy and red from his tears. “I don’t know.”
The funeral was small. It wasn’t as if there was a family to invite, anyway. There were only her co-workers -- people Logan met once or twice -- and Thomas’s friends and their parents. He didn’t remember much besides that. He wasn’t sure if it was a repression thing or just memories lost to time. But he remembered Thomas crying in the beginning and then never again for the rest of the day. He remembered people giving their condolences. He remembered Valerie and Terrance crying and hugging Thomas, but Thomas didn’t shed a single tear. And he thought that was odd. Because Thomas cried for a lot of things, but especially if his friends are crying.
And then it was over.
He and Thomas arrived home at the end of the day. When they got home, Logan half expected to hear humming from the kitchen or bustling down the hall. It was around the time she did chores. She would have been doing something. Except nothing happened. The lights were off. The house was eerily quiet. When he looked into the living room, there was no one there. She wouldn’t ever be there again.
He cried.

  During the action, Bardi experienced a faux pas. She apparently outbid herself during the charity portion of the event where she was trying to nab Rih's upcoming coffee table book.
PEOPLE reports:
At first, Cardi bid $106K on the designer table top book, even though the auctioneer had asked for $110K. After another bidder rang in at $107K, the singer upped her bid to $108K before bidding a final $111K — $1,000 more than the auctioneer had asked for.
“Do you know how this works?” the auctioneer joked, but Cardi — who attended the event with husband Offset — appeared unbothered and celebrated with her hands in the air as she won the coffee table book.
Ha!

James Rhodes and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day
THE MIGHTY ENDGAME REWATCH CONTINUES WITH IRON MAN 2
Typing this up the morning after The Roommate @goteamwin and I watched Iron Man Two and upon reflection, the movie is about 800x better if you  think of Rhodes or Nat as the POV character, with Tony as the main villain -- because let’s face it, Tony is always the main villain of the Iron Man franchise (and other franchises too, sometimes)
ANYWAY ON WITH THE REWATCH.
Ivan Vanko hiding with his face in the corner, clutching a bottle of Vodka is extremely hashtag relatable. Also, is he feeding his dying father vodka-soaked ice chips? is this an old Russian folk remedy? The Roommate says: it’s a nice foil to CATFA: “ah yes. you haff procedure tyomorrow. make sure you haff plenty of vodka. stay nice and hydrated.”
hey we saw all this last time. back in the days when Marvel still felt the need to recap. now they’re just like “HOPE YOU DID YOUR HOMEWORK BITCHES.”
Tony Stark is dropping out of a plane, in a weaponized exoskeletal suit, over New York City, in 2010. I know he's Tony Stark , but he should not be able to do any of this. (but tbf presumably Pepper arranged this YEARLONG EXPO (holy shit) and Pepper Potts can do Literally Anything.)
The backup dancers feel like another callback to CATFA but this came out BEFORE CATFA so maybe the backup dancers are a callback to this???? but in-universe, it's the other way around???????
i mean of course Tony built a specialized gadget to test his blood toxicity but also TONY YOU BUILT A SPECIALIZED GADGET TO TEST YOUR BLOOD TOXICITY??? GO TO THE DOCTOR
is that olivia munn?
pooOOTERRRRR
IS THAT KATE MARA??
oh no gary shandling noooooooo
“he insists it’s a shield” ohohoHOHOHOHOHOHoho burn.
but no, actually a burn because it’s deffo a callback to the Great Works that Howard Stark Did.
RIGHT RHODES!!!!!!!
ah yes. an LG starkphone. before Vevo got their dirty paws all over the Avengers product placement money
it’s nice of JARVIS to sum this up for us. And So Snarkily!
seriously, Tony is giving away his worldly possessions, talking legacy, quitting his job... HOW DOES PEPPER NOT SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING HERE
Natalie Russian?
The Roommate points out that she hated ScarJo the first time she saw this, but now literally cuts her hair to look like ScarJo
this got me thinking about what this scene is like from Nat’s POV. She’s a KGB assassin, trained from (birth?? probably?) and she’s been with SHIELD no less than a year (if the Winter Soldier shot her while she was working for SHIELD in 2009)
And now she has to do this shit.
elon musk?
Tony literally looks HIMSELF in the eye and says: “You got any other bad ideas?” TONY IS THE VILLAIN OF THIS PIECE.
in what way is tony qualified to do this
Poor Nat. “Get close to him” they said. “evaluate him for the avengers initiative” they said. “a plush assignment” they said. fuck you nick.
Vanko: ~cool guys don’t look at explosions~
TONY YOU BROUGHT A CHAIR TO A WHIP FIGHT. TONY YOU’RE A HOT MESS. YOU LITERALLY ARE. YOU ARE ON. FIRE.
I love the way the iron man suits keep getting smaller. i feel like this is a real reflection of how technology has evolved in the real world -- keeps getting smaller and faster and more advanced.
good work to the blonde extra standing behind justin hammer she is giving 112%
Vanko in his budgie smugglers here. He had literally no plan? he’s just, like, making it up as he goes? actually, wtf was he doing on the racetrack anyway? he didn’t know tony would be there??
~cool guys don’t look at explosionsss~
So Vanko Sr got shipped back to Russia but Zola gets to stick around long enough to turn into a bank of computers?
RIGHT RHODES!
Q U E E N S
the scene where Nat’s helping Tony get ready for the party:
The Roommate: See this is why I didn’t like Natasha the first time she turned up. I thought she was going to break up my OTP. Like. What-- what’s she doing here?
Me: It’s a test. It’s all a test. It’s always a test. And Tony. Is. Failing.
Tony. what are you doing. tony. stop.
James Rhodes And The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, but also.
wwwwwow, rhodey is
Very.
Hot.
Tumblr media
Tony yelling at his own reflection again, because he’s a strong independant protagonist who don’t need no villain he can be his own villain, clearly.
They crossed the streams!
Rhodey manages to make the Iron Man mask look Disappointed. *patrick stewart voice* ~acting~
eyyy! it’s that guy from IM1!
hey let’s make an aside here, because earlier in the movie Tony mentions Uncle Sam and let’s just all agree right here right now that Rhodey and Sam definitely know each other. They know each other before Sam becomes an Avenger. first time Steve brings Sam to the tower and Rhodes is there, it’s like “OH HEY MAN HOW ARE YOU? STILL FLYING WITHOUT A PLANE? GOOD TO SEE U DUDE.”
they’re going to get along so well with Carol I’m already excited
oh hey Fury’s here.
I love how proud Fury is of his daughter.
his adopted russian daughter. Such A Proud Dad.
“a vodka fueled rage” he says. “not a good environment to raise a kid in” he says. And what kind of environment was tony raised in?
“you can solve the riddle of your heart” they sure did make Samuel L Jackson say those words.
PHIL’S HERE
god i love phil
I love that Rhodes takes the arc reactor out before Hammer gets here.
“I call it the Ex Wife”
The Roommate: ugh of course you do.
I also love how deadpan he is. “I think I’ll take it.” “Which one?” “All of it.”
The Roommate: James Rhodes here, continuing to be Very Sexy. Don Cheedle is definitely sexier than Terrence Howard FIGHT ME.
Me: why would anyone fight you on that YOU’RE RIGHT
To answer my earlier question: A scotch-fueled rage.
Howard 2.0 being very Walt Disney here.
“I didn’t come here to apologize” MAYBE YOU SHOULD, BUDDY.
Pepper: No.
The Roommate: Pepper’s superpower is calling the authorities and saying no.
i love that pepper and nat are bros now, like. it’s like that story when the girl meets her boyfriend’s side chick and they become BFFs.
Tony figuring out the thing with the pavilions:
The Roommate: Tony really actually is smart, but it gets lost in all the bullshit.
PHIL’S HERE
Fanboy Phil.
“Not that much.” God I love phil.
B I C E P S
tony should always wear tank tops
always
side note: this is tesseract material, right? i mean we’re all agreed that the element that Tony rediscovers is whatever the Tesseract is made of. right?
Justin Hammer: Maybe I’ll get laid.
The Roommate: You Will Not.
Pepper and Nat in matching outfits I love this.
Ok as soon as that glass starts falling -- i mean. all these people are dead, right? everyone who came to the expo is pretty much dead now.
JAMES RHODES AND THE TERRIBLE HORRIBLE NO GOOD VERY BAD DAY
Pepper and Nat are the real dream team here.
“nice work kid” SO CUTE
OMG PROPERTY DAMAGE????
We Do Not Care for ScarJo’s Wig Here. This scene would’ve been so much better if she left her hair in that bun it was in earlier. her hair is all in her face all through this scene NAT WOULD NEVER BE THIS CARELESS, HAIR LIKE THAT IS GOOD FOR GRABBING AS EVERY WOMAN WHO HAS EVER WALKED IN THE DARK KNOWS
subnote: happy she does not require your assistance.
Tony and Rhodes are literally playing a video game here, they might as well be back at MIT in Rhodey’s dorm room playing call of duty or whatever game they played back in the day.
they’re crossing the streams!
The Roommate: I like the little vroom vroom noises the suit makes
“you deserve better”
Me And The Roommate: Yeah, she does.
“you couldn’t afford me.” Dat Ass, Tones. Dayum.
JAMES RHODES IS A NATIONAL TREASURE, GARY SHANDLING, GOOD OF YOU TO NOTICE
oh hey phil’s here
