Are there any ace lesbians that just don't vibe with "bambi lesbian"? Both ace and allo lesbians that wanna use the term that's great but for me personally I don't really claim it. Not all bambis are ace but not all aces are bambi. I noticed a lot of bambi lesbian & ace sapphic content always equates being ace with being a fem sapphic and I dont get it. Non sexual intimacy gets equated with "feminine" roles like cottagecore, being a stay at home gf, cooking, gardening, pink, sweetness, softness etc. Like where's the stuff for the asexual butches? Asexual studs? Asexual stems? Ace sapphics that lean more androgynous and masc? Where's the ace sapphic & bambi stuff about buying masc clothes with your partner, or building something with them or changing a tire and shit. The term bambi, a small soft, dainty, innocent animal being the representation of not having sex/sexual attraction feels a lil weird too. You can be soft and dainty and sexual. You can be non-sexual and dominant and strong. And again asexuality =/= not liking sex its just means little to no sexual attraction. When you look at ace culture the terms and imagery isn't exclusively masc or fem. An animal that isn't stereotyped as being softy feminine and innocent for lesbian aces is a label I'd feel more comfortable claiming. It would kinda cringe but a sea urchin or dragon would make more sense to me. Or it could take a page from our aro bredren with aphrodite lesbian and be "artemis lesbians" or something idk. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being fem and ace sapphic or just fem btw, it's just non-sexual love isn't automatically purer by default, not all ace sapphics are fem and you can be masc, butch, stud, stem or androgynous and soft too.

“But we’re rivals.”

“Are we?”

The protagonist nodded.

Her rival simply shrugged, and resumed kissing her.

The rival’s lips were soft, and her chapstick tasted like persimmons.

The protagonist had been the one to pull her rival into this little alcove, off to the side of the sweeping mahogany library. She’d wanted to argue about . . . it was hard to remember what she’d wanted to argue about.

The rival’s dark curls tickled the protagonist’s cheeks.

This was wrong, the protagonist remembered with a start. The protagonist was supposed to defeat her rival, supposed to surpass her in the rankings. If she ever stared at her in class, it was only to watch for any wrong-doing. If she ever thought about her as she fell asleep at night, it was only in the attempt to better understand her enemy.

The rival’s smooth fingertips traced like feathers on the protagonist’s neck.

“Mmph,” the protagonist said into the kiss.

Her rival pulled back. “What’s up?”

“I can’t do this.”

The rival frowned. “Why not?”

“You’re evil.”

The rival laughed lightly, flashing her dimples. “Evil, you say? That sounds fun.” She took the protagonist’s chin. “Well, I suppose an evil person would do this.”

She kissed the protagonist again.

That was a good point, the protagonist admitted to herself. And who was she to stand in the way of evil?

Then, another thought occurred to her.

“Mmph.”

The rival pulled back again, her brows titled up in impatience. “Yes?”

“I’m ace,” the protagonist said.

“Oh cool. Me too.” She leaned forward to resume.

“Wait! You too? But . . . how?!”

The rival lifted an eyebrow. “You’re asking how I’m ace?”

“No, I’m – wait. It’s just . . . I don’t know any ace people!”

The rival smiled. “Well, it seems that you do.”

She started again. The protagonist was dumbstruck. Another ace girl. What were the odds? And for it to be someone as cool and confident as her rival . . .

“Mmph.”

“Okay, is this just you being you, or do you actually not want to kiss me? Because we can stop, if that’s the case.”

Whatever excuse the protagonist was going to come up with, it died on her tongue.

“No, hold on,” she said. “Please don’t stop.”

The rival grinned, and pulled her close once again.

“Are you avoiding me?”

Ann looked up in surprise.

Camila had found her in her favorite hiding spot – a tiny courtyard sheltered by ancient emerald willows and the academy’s Victorian red-brick buildings.

“No,” Ann lied, hoping her voice didn’t quaver.

Camila ran a hand through her dark hair. “Listen, I’m not trying to crowd you. But you missed first period today, and – ” She cast a sidelong glance. “Did I make you uncomfortable, yesterday?”

Ann’s brows rose. “Of course not.”

“You can tell me, if I did. I wouldn’t be offended or anything.”

Ann opened her mouth, but faltered. How could she explain that she’d avoided Camila because of how nervous the other girl made her? Or that she’d missed first period because she’d accidentally slept in, after staying up all night too excited to sleep?

God, she hoped Camila hadn’t noticed her eyebags.

“Look,” Camila said, after Ann took too long to answer. “I really like you, but that doesn’t mean I can’t control myself. If I crossed a line yesterday, I can back off.”

Ann stared. Camila was regarding her with those big brown eyes and those rich full lips that turned ever so slightly downwards whenever she had a difficult problem to solve. She sat on the hard stone bench, curled inwards, just a little bit. It was a subtle shift away from her typical easygoing and confident stance. She –

“Say something, Ann.”

“You really like me?”

Camila hesitated. “I thought it was obvious.”

Ann couldn’t respond. She’d gotten stuck somewhere over the moon.

“This was a bad idea,” Camila said, rising from the bench. “Maybe we should talk some other time. I – ”

“Do you want to hold my hand?”

Camila paused.

“We live in similar directions.” She held out her hand. “You can hold it, if you want.”

Camila looked at her upturned palm with uncertainty.

Ann saw the issue. Her stomach turning, she took in a breath, and mustered up her courage. “I’d like you to hold it. If you want to.”

Camila’s hand was warm in her own the entire walk home.
