Neutrality is best when in any fandom. Don't argue with people who like characters you don't like (or vice-versa). Don't shame people for the ships they like. Don't bully people for the opinions they have.
Move on if you see something you don't like. Don't leave nasty comments. If you're going to start a discussion, then be mature, and kind, and don't stoop to name-calling.
Fandoms become unsafe and toxic when people start arguments and bully each other for their opinions. Let's make this a safe space for everyone.

You guys are commenting on the fics you read right? You’re at least leaving kudos on the Astarion smut and the pairs that have less than 20 fics for them too? You’re bookmarking stories you really like that are still being updated and ones that haven’t been touched in over a year right?
You know that even the smallest interactions are like cocaine to fic writers right? You understand how important a string of emoji hearts left behind on chapter at three am is right?? Right????
You’re treating AO3 like a community and not a content factory….right?

do you ever see fanart so tasty that you are then obligated to join the fandom and spend all of your waking hours learning the lore behind the characters, or is that not a universal experience?

"I wish ao3 would let me-"
It probably does, you just gotta learn how to do it.
"I wanna see fics for only my opt"
Go to either fandom tag or your ships tag, (if you're doing fandom tag you have to add your ship in the 'relationship' section),go to fliters (mobile) or the right hand side (desktop), go to the 'search within results' area and put in otp:true just like that click 'sort and filter' And it'll pull up all fics with just your otp.
(EDIT: if you wanna do this but still have other parings try otp:false instead of otp:true)
"I wanna sort by _____ not 'Date updated'"
Go to 'filters' or right, theirs a drop down and you can change it to 'author' 'title' 'date posted' ect their are more options. Pick one, click 'sort and filter'
"I don't wanna see /reader"
Filter or Right, go to 'search within results' type in -/reader like that, click 'sort and filter'. No more /reader
"I don't want explicit works"
You know where we're going Right or filter. 'Exclude' section. 'Ratings' click the box that says 'explicit'
Obviously if people don't tag shit correctly it's not gonna work but yeah you just gotta learn how the tagging works. For better tutorials go to TikTok and search 'ao3 tutorials' you can do just about everything.

I love when (fan)fiction does this thing when a non-magic character first hooks up with a magic character and they kinda expect all this weird kinky magic stuff to happen and they're equal amounts nervous and excited.
And then it just doesn't. Oh sure, there is magic in bed, actual magic, but its the most mundane and unsexy quality of life type of magic ever.
Examples, MCU edition:
Doctor Stephen Strange, world renowned surgeon turned world renowned sorcerer: uses just enough magic to steady his shaking hands so he can feel more confident about touching back.
Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, highest ranking person in the entire magic society: summons any kind of required supplies with the same casual countenance as if it was a sleight of hand card production trick instead of actual magic.
Wanda Maximoff, fearsome Scarlett Witch, master of the most volitile Chaos Magic: uses telekinesis to pick up the pillow that fell to the floor during the initial shuffle to make herself more comfortable.
Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief, shapeshifter, alive long enough to have tried everything the Nine Realms have to offer (and some things they don't): only uses his magic to clean up after. Because he's Royalty and cleaning is Beneath Him.
They all know the weird kinky magic stuff is something that has to be properly negotiated first. So non-magic character better be ready for next time---

Hey kids, let grandabs teach you some old school Xena fandom vocab from the good old forum days!
Subtext: the ship name for Xena/Gabrielle
Subtexter: somebody who ships Xena/Gabrielle
YAXI: Yet Another Xena Inconsistency
Shipper: somebody who ships Xena / Ares
Horsetext: Xena/Argo crackship
Uber: fanfics where the characters are reincarnations / descendents of Xena and Gabrielle. Like an AU but with different character names

One minor fandom thing that grinds my gears is when I'm like here's a silly little headcanon, and someone else comments "actually no what if it was this instead". Like?? Nah bud I said my thing. Thats the space I want to play in. You want to play with a different scenario or with other characters, go make your own post. Maybe lets try and play with the scenario and the dollies I provided actually?? Like, maybe watch the Octopus episode of Bluey and learn to 'Yes, And', buddy

I wish there was a way to tell minors to be careful and back off of some content.
I know how it is- literally my whole generation has experienced growing up with the internet to some capacity. I grew up with completely uncensored internet, and the reality is that it traumatized me. Because the things I liked had adults interacting with it and making adult content.
And now, there are adults and content farms making traumatizing content diRECTLY targeting kids. Which has happened before, but now I feel like it has increased. I worry a lot for the kids and teens online nowadays.
To any young people that might be reading;
It doesn't matter if "gore doesn't scare you" or how desensitized you may be. When you put yourself in an online space that isn't made with you or your best intentions in mind, you are going to get hurt. You are going to get scrutinized. You're going to see things you aren't meant to and shouldn't see. Being desensitized isn't a strength, it's a result of repeated trauma.
Interact with people your age. If you are not the target demographic for something, tread with caution or just don't interact with it at all.
If you see ANYTHING or ANYONE that makes you uncomfortable, it's okay to just report it, block them, and move on. Don't linger on what makes you uncomfortable or disturbs you. Not for ANY reason.
You don't always have to be an advocate. It's okay to curate your own online experience and focus on what brings you joy. You don't have to constantly think about every issue going on in the world or online. You have to rest before you can act. It's not immoral to choose your mental health over whatever internet drama or controversies or real-world issues may be going on. When things are out of your control, doing your best is more than enough, and stepping away isn't a crime.
Take breaks. For the love of god, try to take breaks. It's hard enough being young as is.
And pLEASE do NOT follow me. Everything else I post is with an adult audience in mind. I'm just some dumbass in my 20's, and I'm still figuring out whatever the hell IM supposed to be about.
Just heed my warnings, and may our paths cross in a later date. Or something cheese like that.

[whispers] just saying but if you spent a lot of time hating on izzy and fighting with his stans and now with the new season you're starting to look back and feel kinda uneasy about it you can just like. stop. like you can just ignore him for the rest of the season or decide that you'll wait and see where his story arc is going because it's starting to look like it's not gonna be in the direction you had expected.
if the reasons you're coming up with for why izzy is clearly supposed to be evil and ed's supposed to be perfectly good (he is a morally gray, fucked up, yet sympathetic chara going thru a journey rn btw) are starting to feel more and more convoluted you can. stop.
and if the way people are talking about izzy being shot and losing his leg and how it's deserved are starting to feel kinda icky you can just ignore them and quietly disagree.
like you are not locked into an opinion where you have to die on the hill. how you view a character can change, and if you're looking at that dude and going "okay, he sucked in s1 but s2 seems to be giving him more depth and nuance to his character motivations that make his narrative more interesting" that's fine.

A Severely Incomplete List of Fandom Triptychs That Need Names, a la Superwholock
Good Omens/What We Do In The Shadows/Our Flag Means Death because they are queer and poignant and have fancy costumes and pretty accents
Star Trek/X-Files/Supernatural because they are FANDOM CLASSICS that have contributed to (or, in the case of Star Trek, created) fandom and entire genres.

I have just gotten in mctna clearly very late to the party. Thank you for all the beautiful gifs. ❤️❤️❤️🍑
I just wanted to know if you knew any meta posts or discussions about the characters out there I can delve into?
Yaaay, welcome, welcome, we are always happy (starved) for fresh blood in the fandom! \o/ 💙💙💙 Ahhh sdjfklsdflsfd thank you for paying attention to my gifs and calling them beautiful!! 🥰 *dances in a circle like an overexcited puppy*
Please beware: these are most likely not spoiler-free!
For the older meta/discussions, @convenientalias and her ‘my country the new age’ tag (starts at page 20) is a good place to start. I remember this Seon-ho meta and also love reading everyone's responses to this mctna list of questions she created. There’s @dangermousie and their ‘my country’ tag (starts at page 11), @hedvig-ulrika has a lot of good meta posts as well, right now I can only think of this one (marketplace scene) and this one (Seonhwi scene towards the end), and this one for Seon-ho & Sung-rok. For Seonrok stuff in general, platonic or otherwise, the ‘seonrok’ tag by @pashminabitch is a treasure trove, @sadviper has great thoughts about them too (and I enjoyed reading their top 5 mctna scenes), @valarinde has meta about this very heart-wrenching scene, and @eohachu has written compelling meta about them too; their ‘seonrok’ and ‘nn meta’ tags are def worth checking out. @strandedchesspiece has an amazing series of mctna meta posts. I really love @the2headedcalf ’s Seonhwi meta (1, 2). @ciriwrites has written this excellent meta that led to an interesting discussion and other meta, @staidwaters has this headcanon about how Seonhwi became best friends, and @rain-hat has a lot of intelligent and eloquent meta in her ‘my country the new age’ tag and got a lot of mctna asks a while ago. You can also read @crayonflop 's very entertaining commentary in their ‘my country’ tag (starts at page 28), then there’s @husberttee with an interesting discussion about Sung-rok and his scar. This funny text post about Sung-rok + Seonhwi by @petekaos always makes me smile. This one is good too - all the Seon-ho feels! @bienmoreau has meta posts like this one about Seon-ho and his brother and @tlanwen has good meta and web weavings too. And @elderflowergin 's description of Bang-won's voice is perfect. There are others like @crithir, @eremin0109, @asena-queenslayer, @monstersqueen, @mctna, @doorhine with a scene comparison here and dozens of others who I remember writing mctna meta, in the tags or otherwise! This anon ask sent to fatallist (who has sadly deactivated) about the water/river symbolism is interesting too.
For more recent stuff, we have @howlingmusketeers ’s Bang-won meta, @nubreed73 ’s thought-provoking commentary here (you can find more in their ‘meta’ or ‘my country the new age’ tag), @wangkuans here (there's more in their ‘my country the new age’ tag too), @navramanan has this edit/tags-meta and meta, and @itsza recently watched mctna and has made some posts too.
Of course, you can also feel free to check out my ‘mctna meta’ tag or ‘color meta’ tag! :D
I’m sure I missed a lot of the early discussions since I only discovered the fandom a year after mctna was airing... Please forgive me, friends, if I missed anyone /o\
A small caveat: I’m very clearly biased towards Seon-ho who's my fave, and there are some Hwi-resenting meta posts/tags you may encounter on my or other people’s blogs. I started out being quite critical of him, but after many good discussions with some of my friends I’ve come to understand his side of things more. As such, I'm trying to avoid being too harsh on him and am determined to love the boys more equally now!
There are a few critical takes on Seon-ho or Bang-won or Hui-jae too, but I think it’s a sign of what amazing, complex characters they are that they elicit such strong emotions in us and we feel compelled to take sides!
Thank you for the ask and have fun in the mctna fandom!! <333

For the love of god.
Stuff you dislike ≠ problematic
You don't have to find a 'moral' reason why you dislike it, just ignore it and MOVE ON
"I think (ship) is abusive!" Well, people are enjoying it, putting their own spin on it, and you just don't see that. So long as they are not hurting and harassing any real people, just block them. It's not that hard.
When we are fans of media, we bring our own beliefs and experiences to the viewing. I first watched the Dsmp during the lore drought, and I had been influenced by c!clingyduo mains and L'manburg enjoyers. But through Halfy and Winks, Mellohi, and dreblr, I saw something new in c!dream's character and I absolutely love him now.
People have different ideas than you. That's okay, that's not problematic. The problem comes when you harass people for being'problematic.'
