How I Book Journal (With Pictures!!!)
Tumblr media
@madamoisellef asked how I book journal, so I figured I’d just make an entire post
1. Pick your tabs
I like to do this based on the colors of the book cover, so since there’s blues and grays in this one, that’s what I went with tab wise.
Tumblr media
2. Make a Key
Normally, I have tabs for (1) quotes, (2) character [which can be character traits or physical traits, things that help me keep the characters straight], (3) plot [important pieces to the plot that I don’t want to forget, ex. foreshadowing], and (4) Random [this is basically anything else I want to write down]
Tumblr media
3. Read and Tab
Pretty self-explanatory. Read and put your tabs in.
Tumblr media
3.5 Tab Things You Want to Print
This happens when there’s a lot on the page that happens that I think is important and want to remember, so I tab it and usually write “print” in pencil. Then, I go and take a picture of the page, so that I can cut it out and glue it in my book journal later.
Tumblr media
4. Write Down the Text Tabbed
I usually do this every 50-100 pages depending on how many things I’ve tabbed.
Tumblr media
Repeat steps 3, 3.5, & 4 until you finish the book.
5. Write a Review
I usually give a short summary and then my thoughts on the book along with my rating, which is out of 5 stars.
Tumblr media
6. Add Some Color to Things that Stand Out
Sometimes I’ll highlight as I’m going, but more often then not, I highlight after I’m done with the book. I always highlight the page number and then the spot where the quote ends and my thoughts start. I also highlight important parts of the quotes/parts I want to stand out.
Tumblr media
7. Print, Cut, and Glue in Pages You Wanted to Print
Again, pretty self explanatory. Print out the pic of the page you took to the size of your liking, cut it out, and glue it in. Then, just write your thoughts under it like you would a quote you wrote down.
Tumblr media
8. Write the Book and Rating in the Front Page of the Journal
I always write my stars out in words, too because it’s sometimes hard to tell between a full star and half star.
Tumblr media
9. Decorate the Pages as Much as You Like
I hit the photo limit, but I always print out a small picture of the book cover and then glue to to the first page of quotes for that book.
That’s it! Let me know if this is helpful!

A little book annotating note:
Everyone has their favorite pens, yes, and that’s good- but if you’re like me and you like buying the store-company-published books that are on thinner/cheaper paper to save some money, a lot of pens bleed through the paper.
Solution- artist/Bible annotation pens like Sakura microns. They don’t bleed through the pages and are archival, if that’s important to you. Once you get used to the feel of them, they keep your books legible on the next page/back of page.
Just a little wisdom I’ve picked up from using them in my books.
Zebra highlighters also don’t tend to bleed through.

Book Reviews!
Hi everyone!!!! As my bio says, I'm a huge bookworm, and read about fifteen books a month, sometimes more. I love reading, and I love making little reviews for them in a creative way. I used to bullet journal a few years ago, and my favorite part about bullet journaling was writing down reviews for every book I read in there, but eventually it was too much for me to keep up with, so I decided to do it digitally! I got an iPad about a year ago, and started making my reviews this way, and it made it so much easier, more fun, and more visually appealing. Here's an example of one:
Tumblr media
I'm going to be using this to upload all the books I've read so far this year, along with a typed up version of the review along with it. In case anyone wants a template of what I'm doing here you go:
I've been doing these for a little over a year now, so I've tweaked it a lot along the way, and the template I have now is just what works best for me. You're absolutely more than welcome to switch things out for whatever fits what you read best. For instance, I read a lot of romance and fantasy books, so I have a spice rating on mine, but if you read mainly horror books you could do like scare factor, or something!
What I Use
Goodreads (I use this mainly just because it's so common and popular, and I love the reading challenge feature, my goal is 100 this year!) feel free to follow me on there!
Tumblr media
StoryGraph- I heavily recommend this app. It's kind of like good reads, but honestly, infinitely better. It gives you graphs to help you better understand like the statistics of what you're reading, and it also has a really cool buddy read feature where you can buddy read with someone, and add comments, and they won't unlock for the other person until they've gotten to that point in the book. Love this app so much

Goodnotes - This is what I use to make my book review journal pages! This app unfortunately not free, so do with that information what you will, but when I originally got this app, I got it for college, and it's just a one-time purchase unless you want to upgrade, but I really don't think it's necessary. I think I paid like $8, but that's honestly less than a regular journal and it comes with pens, stickers, and a bunch of amazing features!
Tumblr media
Thank you everyone for reading! I understand this is a lot of info here, but it's just an introduction to what's to come on this page! Thanks for reading :)

Yay! I got to add the green to my reading goal shelf!
Looking at this, I need to read some more historical fiction and crime/mystery books before the end of the year.

Okay, here me out here if you're somebody with a fear of math/numbers. I do recommend "Proofiness: How You're Being Fooled by Numbers" by Charles Seife who explains numerical deception & manipulation tactics in a way that's entertainingly understandable (IMO) even by a former humanities major like me.
Oh God this one is nice. I mean, this fits under the 'subject I hate' challenge which is everything that has to do with numbers and maths lol. Yet it seems interesting too because I like reading about manipulation. So thank you for the suggestion!

For old times sake is actually such a heartbreaking and beautiful sentiment. Like, let’s do it for the love that used to be here. It is reason enough.
