2024.03.05 - march and all the things before it

one day, after everything is through, i'll turn around and still have you.

excuse my messy desk, it just felt like it added to the photos of where i'm at mentally.

first year of med school has been a whirlwind of amazing new things and also a bit of a disaster. here's a list of updates in no particular order of just everything that comes to mind since i started school:

i had my first course failure ever (like.... ever.) and it's taken a huge toll on my psyche. i have to remediate it in the summer and it sucks because i wanted to do other things and i have to just sit with this feeling of having failed something big time for the next two months until then.

before that, though, i got thru first semester for the most part unscathed. a few bumps and bruises but nothing crazy.

im a part of student government and had a major success in getting rid of a really awful lecture that people have been trying to get changed or removed for at least the last three years.

i got to visit my partner abroad for christmas! it was wonderful and i miss them so much. it makes it that much harder to be down here i think.

i have gone to the beach and stared at the ocean a few times and it helps but i don't do it often.

back in august, i had a major back injury that limited my mobility almost completely for two days. since then, it's been on and off pain for months and i finally started going to PT. hopefully we can make the pain go away because apparently it has already made my left leg decently weaker than my right leg 💀

my cat had a really bad cancer scare back in september and he's only now beginning to recover. i love him so much and we had come to terms with not putting him thru surgery to remove the tumor and just wanted to keep him comfortable and at home. my mom fed him holy water and he's managed to get better. ❤️‍🩹

i've forcing myself to get back into journaling and reading because i need hobbies that are off-screen and i'm limited from exercising until my back is a little better.

i bought noise-canceling headphones (pictured above) and they've changed my life tbh. i don't know how i managed before.

i didnt used to burn candles but now they help me turn my brain into focusing mode and it's changed my relationship with stress and studying.

i went on a random mini vacation with my family to nintendo world in february and i think i healed a part of me that i didn't know needed healing.

i think that's all the biggest updates i have to share. i've been documenting med school and life more often on my private twitter account but it feels more important to me to make sure i get it here in this blog. i want to be more consistent with posting here again! i might add it to my to-do lists when i update newsletters and socmed. but i also like this blog just being a space for me to be without a lot of pressure to keep up with it. idk. thank u for being here! for reading and for sticking with me 🫡 till next post

I SURELY AM!!! 💛😭🧈🧡😭🥞💛🧈😭🧡⁣ ⁣ Unlike April, I was able to add our seven boys back into my spread this month, in the form of In the Soop! I wanted to have a really calming and self-care focused spread theme this month and I haven’t actually journaled anything with In the Soop before so I thought this was the perfect theme! 🍃🌱✨ ⁣ ⁣ In the Soop is such a healing experience to watch. I loved seeing them all relax and unwind and have fun!! One of my favourite moments is when Joon talked to us about his bonsai tree, he looked so fond about his lil 6 year old tree and I’m so enchanted everytime he talks about nature! 🌱✨⁣ ⁣ Anyway, I feel like I didn’t do my best with this spread, I think I had too many elements and not enough of my own drawing and bits in it!! I feel like since I’m mostly not journaling these days, I have to relearn my style and grow it again. Even though I don’t think it’s perfect I still love sharing it with you though. 💚⁣ ⁣ Hope you’re doing well!! ✨🌱🤍 𝐵𝐸 𝓇𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌 🤍🌱✨⠀ ⠀ This is a very late post for bts’s latest comeback hehe but here we are, my very first post of 2021! 🥳⠀ ⠀ BE was definitely not like any other comebacks 1) because it wasn’t planned in like 1768 lol and 2) it wasn’t really about bts proving their talent or skill really, but about them comforting us, and ironically that shows us more about them as a band than any other single comeback could 🤍 I think when we say this comeback saved 2020, we all really mean it. It means so much to me to have this beautiful album through this troubling time in the world and that I will have these songs to listen to when it’s over, to relive these memories and the lessons I learned. ✨ what are your fav songs from BE? I’d say mine are Blue and Grey and Stay right now 🤍✨⠀ ⠀ I went for a softer look with this spread and did an aesthetic layout for each song with words I associate with them! Because let’s be honest, me trying to “review” these songs would be like “I LOVE this song oh and I LOOOVE that song” 😂 I hope you like this format! ✨💜 Have I lost myself, or have I gained you? 💜✨ Q: How did you get into bullet journaling? Is there something stopping you from trying? Hello beautiful people, my name is Shalini, and welcome to my first spread! Let me introduce you to my Singularity spread. Though I just started this account, I did this spread when I first started bullet journaling over 4 months ago. Though it’s simple, I still love this spread because Singularity is one of my favourite BTS songs, the music video is *chef kiss* beautiful and I remember having such a great time with this spread. ❄️ Each of my spreads have a theme related to the song it’s inspired by: for Singularity, I wrote about “breaking the ice” in finally starting bullet journaling about BTS. To be honest, I’m a very cynical and contemplative person, so to create something that many people might see as an “obsession” (including myself) was tough, but the lines from this song helped me get past it bc the boys might also feel the same about us (where do their voices start and ARMY voices end?). But that’s the beauty of it. Obsessions can be dangerous but they’re also powerful because they make you ~feel~ things and make you want to do, to create — at least for me! So that’s what this spread is about. ☺️ This spread helped me love and do what I love without shame or apology! BTS has inspired me to not only journal but to also keep writing my novel, which is what I mostly use this journal for. So you’ll see most of the text in the spreads relate to characters or plot in my story — which you’ll hear more about in later posts. 😉 If you’re a writer too I hope you find some inspiration from this!
