if only grindelwald wasn’t evil. can you imagine for a moment what life at hogwarts would be if the headmaster’s boyfriend showed up every once in a while to wreck havoc?

I just watched the latest Fantastic Beasts movie (not in theatre obviously) and I just wanna say
Spoilers ahead tho
I'm glad they stopped being cowards and ACTUALLY allowed Dumbledore to admit to being in love with Grindelwald, and not just once but multiple times, like I'm glad we ACTUALLY got the romantic part of the relationship.
I don't remeber the second movie, the first was ok, this one is my personal favourite tbh.
The Credence reveal was great.
I just love that the gay wasn't hidden and it was like actually told and shown.
I miss Johhny Depp he was amazing in this role, but I didn't mind Mads Mikklesen at all.
Maybe because I really like Mads idk.
But he killed the role honestly
Also, why does he always have so much sexual tension with men on the screen-
It's like he only knows how to play gay villains-
Not complaining just saying-
All in all
I liked this one more than the other two
Gay rights
Happy pride month
Fuck j k rowling
And yea
Keep being gay my friends

After seeing about 50 'Dumbledore is evil' and 'everything is Dumbledore's fault' and 'but why didn't Dumbledore did this or the other' posts in a row, I find myself wishing Dumbledore just fucked off to somewhere nice and sunny in '81, early retirement (or is it early if he's already 100?) and washed his hands off magical Britain entirely.
Some of y'all sound like Fudge with your Dumbledore bashing. I wish, at least, Dumbledore would have left when Fudge and that corrupt as hell Ministry did their best to ruin his name and his image.
Pack up his ancient shit and move to a nice beach somewhere, with his pet bird and a huge bag of candy.
This way, my man Voldemort could have won in like five minutes, and Harry would be dead, Voldemort would rule supreme, Bella would keep being the queen she is, and my little Voldemort shaped heart would be happy.
But no, Dumbledore stayed, orchestrated Voldemort's downfall by giving Harry step by step instructions, gave up his own life in the process, made sure Harry would keep his, because apparently that's what 'evil men' do instead of retiring in comfort.
Not only Harry wouldn't have survived without Dumbledore, but he most likely wouldn't even exist without Dumbledore. Because, you know, this evil man is also the one that took down another dark lord back in the day; if Grindelwald would have won, there would be no Lily, most likely. Thus no Harry.
But yes, go get your 'Dumbledore is evil' badges- I hear Fudge and Umbridge are leaders of the hate club, I'm sure they'll receive new followers with open arms. Draco is probably the secretary, because he hates Dumbledore, too, and he likes making badges.
Also, can someone explain to me how Dumbledore, the only gay man in canon, became the fandom's resident homophobe? That's just weird, my friends. Very weird, to say the least. It gets even nastier when you say he 'groomed' students. That's an awful thing to throw around about a gay dude, you know?
There are so many reasons one can dislike Dumbledore for, but you do have the option to not like a flawed character without turning them into a ridiculous caricature of themselves.
P.S: I am not talking about fics. Write your fics and your characters however you want, whatever makes you happy. Your fic is your domain, and you do whatever you want in there, hopefully with no asshole to attack you in the comments. Same with reading- read what you want, bashing or no bashing. Have the best of fun!
I am talking about these 'meta' type posts on social media, tagged with "Albus Dumbledore", where they act as if canon Dumbledore was legit evil, incompetent or homophobic.

DIMENSION TRAVEL STORY IDEA: Summary: Harriet "Harry" James Potter has travelled to an alternate dimension during a spell gone wrong (Kreacher's actually responsible cuz he cares about Harry since she's the Lady of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black) Harriet knows it's an alternate dimension cuz she finds a newspaper stand and lo and behold, who's on the front cover? Tom. Fucking. Riddle. But not the ugly Voldemort Tom Riddle she killed. No this is young Tom Riddle who grew up FINE AS HELL.
Tumblr media
And he's on the front page cuz he's The Minister of Magic and guess what he's talking about.
Dumbledore.
He's talking about Dumbledore.
And not manipulative gramps Dumbledore whose beard is longer than my hair.
No.
We're talking about this one
Tumblr media
You know why he's talking about this Dumbledore?
Because Albus. Percival. Fucking. Dumbledore decided to become the epitome of "Be Gay, Do Crime," with Gellert Grindelwald, his husband.
DUMBLEDORE IS A DARK LORD WITH HIS HUBBY
So Harriet is obviously freaking out and does the right thing.
She goes to a pub and drinks her sorrows away in Scottish Whiskey, (Thank you, Minny)
But Harry never makes reasonable decisions so when she finds a quill and paper, guess what she does.
She writes to Misinter Riddle.
But the drama doesn't end there.
Whenever Harriet does anything, whether she writes or talks about Tom Riddle, she doesn't speak in English.
She talks in Pareseltongue.
(Cuz she and tom are the only Parselmouths. I think.)
So Parseltongue.
Harriet writes in parseltongue to the Minister of Fucking Magic on his wrongdoings in her universe.
The letter literally looks like this:
ssss ssss sssssssss ss ssssss s sss ssssssss ssssss sss sss ss ssss ssssssss ssssssss ssss ssssss sssssss ss ss sssssssss and that transcribes to
"Dear Lord Voldemort, or should I say Minister Riddle, you are an ugly noseless hairless evil snakey bastard in my dimension,"
and cuz she's spiteful, she signs it off with "You-Know-Who"
But the thing is Harriet never mentioned her name or who her parents were.
So when Minister Riddle receives this letter, he freaks out and then does everything he can to find this person.
Not to kill them.
But to woo them.
This kind, thoughtful person has travelled from another dimension just to stop him from becoming evil.
AND THEY'RE A PARSELMOUTH.'
THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY HIS SNAKE MATE. (cuz he killed all of the Gaunts and Riddles so they're not family)
You can bet ur ass he was squealing to Nagini at the thought of having another Parselmouth in the world with him.
He's obsessed.
(He's not tom riddle if he doesn't have possessive issues and his jealousy issues are just as bad.🤭🤭🤭🥰🥰🥰😩😩😩)
Like it's not a want.
It's a need.
He needs the writer of this letter to be with him forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and-
You probably get the idea.
Anyway, 1 year goes by.
Tom Riddle: I MUST FIND THIS PERSON AND MAKE THEM MINE
Harriet Potter: *forgets about even writing the letter*
Tom is growing more obsessed as the days go by and then he meets a woman at a charity ball held for idk an organisation for potieneers? Potion Masters?
She's chatting up with Lord and Lady Dagworth-Granger cuz she's been working with them cuz they remind her of Hermione and she needed a job.
Anyway, he approaches the couple in hopes of talking to them and Harriet sees Minister Riddle approaching and quickly moves away to head to the drinks table.
And then lets out a breath of relief when she realises he wasn't heading for her.
She schmoozes for a few more minutes before calling it quits and heading out for fresh air.
The party is at the Dagworth-Granger's manor so she goes out to the gardens.
And hears a cry for help.
Her Gryffindor instincts push her to run towards the sound of danger.
But her Slytherin side made her hide behind the wall from where the cry of help had come from.
It was a witch being harassed by two wizards.
One of the wizards was holding her wand, taunting her.
While the other had begun to take off her outfit.
Before it could go any further, she brought the men's attention to her and with a flick of her wrist, Harriet had the men on their knees.
She then walked over to the one holding the witch's wand and grabbed it out of his hand, accidentally snapping his wrist in the process.
She gave the witch her wand back and accepted the shaky hug she received.
Harriet waited until the witch was out of sight before she turned to the men and smiled, watching as their faces fell into horror as they saw the fangs in her mouth.
(I'm in love with the prompt by a post on tumblr where  Basilisk!Harry is hugging Kneazle!Hermione and Dragon!Ron also wants his cuddles. I can't find the person who made it but I've lived by the idea that these would be their animagus forms if they ever performed the spell like James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew had done to become illegal animagi for Remus Lupin)
Harriet rips into their throats, feeds on them and then turns their bodies into ash with the fiendryfire spell.
She grabbed a mirror from her purse to erase the blood from her face and clothes and began to walk away lest anyone come looking for the wizards.
But, Harriet suddenly slammed into what felt like a wall.
A very warm wall.
Regaining her bearings, Harriet looked up to notice that the "wall" was MINISTER RIDDLE.
AND HE WAS HOLDING HER ARMS.
"Minister Riddle, what are you doing here?" She said pasting a smile on her face.
Shift of POV:
Minister Riddle internally sighed at being stuck in another ball instead of being at home, analysing the letter once again.
He was certain it was a woman who sent it as there was a red lipstick kiss on the paper after it was signed sss-ssss-sss (You-Know-Who)
His thoughts are cut off when Lady Dagworth-Granger asks her husband where Harriet is.
Who is Harriet? he muses but when Lord Dagworth-Granger offers to look in the gardens, Tom leaps at the chance to run away from the party.
He goes into the gardens aimlessly walking around for a few minutes, lost in his thoughts of his mysterious parselmouth when a witch comes out of nowhere and collides with him.
He uprighted her by placing his hands on her arms and looked on curiously as she seemed to freeze in place when she looked up to see that it was he she bumped into.
Tom Riddle is the one to freeze when she speaks.
"Minister Riddle, what are you doing here?" She says an innocent smile on her face as if she had no idea his whole world had just flipped on its axis.
Parseltongue.
She's speaking in parseltongue.
She's his parselmouth.
The one from another dimension.
But he had to clarify so he replies honestly for the first time in his life, in parseltongue, "I've been looking for you,"
"Searching for me? Whatever for?"
A boyish smile widens on his face before he forces it into a polite smile.
"The Lord and Lady Dagworth-Granger have been searching for you, Miss Harriet I believe you are?" He reverts to English to test if she notices the change but she doesn't.
She just replies in English, "Ah, I see. I disappeared for too long with my break from the stuffiness of the ball and yes, I am Harriet."
Harriet, he muses in his mind, no last name to give for me.
She extends her gloved hand for him to shake but Tom riddle reaches for both of her hands and turns them over to kiss them gently and forces himself not to give into the urge of nuzzling into her hands (well not yet at least) and without letting them go, he straightens to his full height to tower over her (giving him a thrill at knowing she was shorter, meaning he could easily pick her up and carry her, be it over his shoulders or bridal style) and replies, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Harriet. No last name?"
(Harriet has been wearing gloves cuz of the 'I must not tell lies' scars that cover her hands.)
Harriet smiles teasingly towards him and his cold heart thaws ever so, "I couldn't decide on a last name and I've decided I like the mysterious aura it gives me,"
Or maybe she couldn't risk using her real last name because she was from a different dimension, Tom muses in his mind, Nevertheless, Harriet Riddle has a lovely ring to it.
Harriet Potter: *staring confused at Tom Riddle as he smiles down at her
Tom Riddle: *Winter would be a lovely time to get married, wouldn't it?
I'm stopping here cuz it's a summary, not a story. Yes, I'm Evil.
Tell me if you like it tho.
I was this close *makes an inch between her fingers* to making this a Soulmate AU story.
Think of the angst that Harriet would go through all her life knowing that her soulmate's words to her are:  I've been looking for you
And it's an alternate hotter version of Tom Riddle, AKA THE BAD GUY WHO MURDERED HER PARENTS
And think of how Harriet's words had motivated Tom his entire life to do his best to work hard (and cheat death) to live long enough for his soulmate to see him one day at a place be it a library or a gala or a hallway and ask him: Minister Riddle, what are you doing here?
Huh.
Maybe I should make them soulmates.
I need a timeline. fuck.
Um.
Riddle was educated at Hogwarts from 1938 to 1945, and was sorted into Slytherin House, a nod to his ancestor Salazar Slytherin.
Making Tom 34 cuz 1927 is the year Tom was born in if he went to Hogwarts in 1938 which would make him 11 in 1938 and 38-11 is 27 so 1927 is when he was born.
61-27=34 so Harriet is in 1961 but cuz of the time skip tom is 35 years old in 1962
Harriet was born in 1980
The Second War technically began on 24 June, 1995, though was not officially announced by the Ministry until nearly a year later on 17 June, 1996, and ended on 2 May, 1998, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, after the death of the Dark Lord.
Which made Harriet 18 in 1998, 24 in 2004, 24 in 1961 and 25 in 1962
but she deserves peace so the year Kreacher sent her back was 2004 which would make her 24 cuz he's horrified that she hasn't attempted to romance anyone since Cedric Diggory.
Tbh, if he was my bf I would never love again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then hubby "I would burn the world down for you and rebuild a new one from its ashes" tom riddle is here and I'm like Cedric who?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But none of them compare to (long list of titles, I'll research later.) Harriet James Potter.

okay, the reply feature isn’t working for some reason, so i’m gonna reply here, @gemblingcraft and @starlight-to-midnight
so y’all really don’t remember how homophobic the UK still was even after section 28 was overturned, huh? and how homophobic it still actually is cuz lesbians are still punished for being homosexual and not wanting to interact with dick? how even afterwards, publishers wouldn’t publish works about explicitly gay characters in children’s books? y’all have the memory of celery sticks.
and literally nowhere has Rowling said anything bad about trans people. but if y’all think that “sex matters” and “lesbians are homosexual females” and “women need female only spaces” are bad, then you’re just homophobic, misogynist idiots. not that i’m surprised anyway.
also, not sure how y’all don’t remember that it was pretty heavily implied that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald when they were young, cuz i remember reading that, and it was literally over a decade ago. like it was clearly implied that he had serious feelings towards Grindelwald, but after his sister had died, that changed. does no one remember the biography written about Dumbledore in the book?

Probably a weird question, but which HP characters do you imagine as LGBTQIA or/and POC? (Because let’s make Joke Rollling/She Who Must Not Be Named… ANGRY!! 😏)
I would LOVE TO! J.K.Rowling is Rita Skeeter to me. Also you should look up 'The Worst Witch,' because it's basically Harry Potter.
Tumblr media
𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑴𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑬
Most definitely black, or what if she came from an Indian family who wanted her to marry and the Wizarding World was her escape? She studies hard because this new world is a second chance for freedom!
I also wish Hermione was bisexual/pansexual. She and Ginny, or even she and Cho would make such a gorgeous couple!
𝑳𝑼𝑵𝑨
I think it would have been cool if she was an albino (I am so sorry if that's not the right way to say it. I don't want to offend anyone). Her long white hair, pale skin, translucent lashes and brows. With beautiful purple eyes (this is actually how I imagined the Targaryens to look, not just having white hair).
She is definitely demisexual; only feeling attraction after developing a friendship first. I can also see Luna as trans!
𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑹𝒀
I've seen some fancasts and fanart of Harry with his ethnicity being Indian, or Pakistani. Which I'm completely okay with. Maybe even James is half black, and that makes Harry a quarter, so it's still noticeable - and another thing that the Dursley's are horrible to him about.
I think Harry is Bi/Pan - I have this headcanon that he had a crush on Oliver Wood, and Katie Bell when he was in first year.
𝑹𝑶𝑵
I honestly just see Ron as a normal hetero male. Honestly, there's nothing queer about him at all. But he is very supportive of his friends and family as well as the LGBTQIA+ community. He would always be at Pride with whoever asked him, and have anyone's back who needed it.
And the Weasley's are known for their red hair, so I think I would keep their heritage/ethnicity the same!
𝑫𝑼𝑴𝑩𝑬𝑳𝑫𝑶𝑹𝑬
YES, THIS MAN IS A GAY MAN. But I feel as though he's very monogamous; he will love one person, even if they do not love him back, for the rest of his life. Like with Grindelwald, Dumbledore couldn't stop the feelings he had - even though the man was turning into a pretty evil one.
𝑺𝑵𝑨𝑷𝑬
His sexuality always confused him. Because he was in love with Lily, truly in love with her. But sometimes he found James attractive, and he hated himself for it.
Shows himself as straight, but I think he's bisexual or at least bi-curious.
I think for his ethnicity, it can be the same. Pasty white skin, black hair, hooked nose. Maybe his family distantly came from a Mediterranean island?
𝑫𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑶
Oh, I think keeping Draco white ... and maybe all the Death Eaters white would be saying a lot. They're basically Nazi's. So that wouldn't change.
Draco is most definitely bisexual. He was so in love with Harry, feigning it as hate. Knowing everything about him, staring at him from across the room. When he was younger, it was easier to see it as hate. But then when he turned 16, he felt a pang of desire for the Potter boy and the self-loathing began.
𝑮𝑬𝑶𝑹𝑮𝑬
Falls in love very easily, but usually with a woman. Not to say he's completely hetero, I think he would be bi-curious, but I think he wants a wife with a big family.
𝑭𝑹𝑬𝑫
I actually think Fred would be polyamorous. The kind where the girlfriend is allowed another boyfriend, not like Sisterwives. No, no. Fred would be totally cool with having a wife who has a boyfriend, and they all live together. Fred's a little fruity as well. I think he's one of those people that 'don't like to put a label on things.'
𝑺𝑰𝑹𝑰𝑼𝑺
Pansexual. Pansexual. Pansexual. Doesn't care if you're trans, he loves a person for who they are, what they believe in, rather than what their bits are. One of the reasons why he ran away from home. He hates tradition.
I think the Black family could be from Sicily, I know that's not necessarily POC, I think with their darker features, they would easily reign from there. And Sicilians are known for always distinguishing themselves from any other Mediterranean culture.
𝑹𝑬𝑴𝑼𝑺
He always thought of himself as straight. But that was until he met Sirius and he developed such a big crush on him. I think Remus would be Biromantic towards women but Bisexual towards men.
𝑪𝑯𝑶
WHY THE HELL DID ROWLING CALL AN ASIAN PERSON, "CHO CHANG," PUT THEM IN THE "SMARTEST HOUSE". It's racism. That's how I see it. She does this with many characters, and it's ridiculous.
Anyway, I have no problem with Asian representation. But what if Cho was Native American? (I know Rowling made that whole other school but it was really problematic so to me, it doesn't exist).
Or have Cho as Chinese (maybe give her a proper Chinese name), and we can have another main character...like Hermione, or Katie Bell as Native American. I just think it would be interesting to see an exchange student from another country as well.
𝑮𝑰𝑵𝑵𝒀
Lesbian. Poly lesbian. All those boys she went out with in Hogwarts were actually just beards. And she was having a secret relationship with another girl in her year. However, the polyamory doesn't come out until she's in her 20s.
𝑩𝑰𝑳𝑳
Polysexual; sexual or romantic attraction to people with varying genders. Polysexual orientations include bisexuality, pansexuality, omnisexuality, and queer, among many others. Basically, he can be attracted to anyone. But Fleur was the one who captured his heart fully and wholely.
𝑪𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑳𝑰𝑬
Asexual; I know he isn't in the movies (WHY?!) but he spends all his time with Dragons, and I think that will always be his main love and passion.

Sometimes I stare into the nothingness and think:
Can you believe it? If jkr weren't the horrible transphobe that she is, we could all be celebrating and having a blast about Dumbledore/Grindelwald, having deliciously explicit Jude/Mads fics. We could be buying hp merchandise and being happy and feeling wonderful about how she gave us a canon lovers-to-enemies of massive proportions. The movies would have been successful because we wouldn't have cancelled her. She wouldn't need a ridiculous excuse of tv series so early to get more money/new fans. The original actors would actually want to be in a new movie, they would be happy to do so and we would all be incredibly excited about seeing Scorbus on the big screen...
But no. No, she fucking betrayed us. She turned her wand to her own community and she dared curse us with her nasty transphobic shit.
I should have known from the beginning, that she's a woman who does not write about love and hope (even if she thinks she does). She is a woman who writes about creating polarities, enemies and wars born out of bigotry.
Such a sad thing. I hate her so much. And it's such a painful and sad reality, to think I loved her so fiercely when her first book saved my life 25 years ago.
It's a long mourning process for me. I'm so angry it makes me wanna write loud and clear about hope. This is fandom for me: hope. We are so full of fucking hope we fucking saved Draco Malfoy from himself and his family and voldy and the whole pureblood shite so many times in so many redemption stories while jkr couldn't understand why we even liked him.
Here, listen: we like him because we like to see change in our world. Because we are hopeful about our society. We believe in not only magic but we believe people learn, and choose wisely once informed and change! We don't like to see you destroying our safe space. It's not yours anymore, not since you pointed your sickly words and hateful speech towards our siblings.
I really wanna write about hope. About redeemed Draco, about coming out and being supported, about found family and safety nets. About bi trans boy Harry, and black Hermione, and trans Luna and gay Draco and asian Pansy and all things queer and diverse. I wanna save Voldemort's soul and close my eyes to the fact that Freud knows it is only a paralel bc I wish I could change who jkr is and the amount of damage she did.
It's a mourning process for me, and sometimes I stare into nothingness and day dream about another life.

Listen, I’ve always been fascinated by Grindeldore...
First of all: yes, I'm aware that it's not exactly the least problematic ship. It canonically suffers from the "kill your gays" trope, and it's only canon because JKR retconed it and didn't care enough to actually write queer characters in her series (though, quite frankly, I wouldn't trust her to write queer characters at all, considering her incredibly harmful ideology).
However, I love the potential.
We don't see enough of Grindelwald (in the original HP series, because I am consciously ignoring the fact that the Fantastic Beasts movies exist) to know much about his personality or how he would interact with Dumbledore, but he's canonically very powerful and, because he evidently had a large following, it's likely that he was also charismatic. Dumbledore is also both of these things, wielding enough power to not only defeat Grindelwald but also terrify Voldemort, and being charismatic enough to be a politician and essentially a war leader. Watching two people like that interact would be fascinating, especially in a context where they care for each other without agreeing with each other. The tension would be palpable.
Still, my favorite thing about the ship isn't really the dynamics -- it's the tragedy. Dumbledore may have been misguided in his youth but he eventually grew to recognize that conquering and subjugating muggles would be bad, actually, and he acted accordingly: he began to dedicate a decent portion of his life to advocating not only for muggles and muggleborns but also other marginalized members of society (eg: letting Remus attend Hogwarts and employing Dobby). Now, I'm not saying that he does it well but, considering the state and prejudices of most of wizarding Britain, his actions seem almost radical. This, combined with him actively working against dark lords and being instrumental in their defeats, paints a pretty clear picture of him, morally speaking.
Grindelwald, on the other hand, was obsessed with power and did horrific things for it, never seeming to learn his lesson. Because of his relegation to the status of a minor character, we don't know that much about him other than the fact that, due to the very nature of the time he was active and what war his conflicts were running parallel to (and the fact that his name seems German, or at least Germanic), the narrative is implying that he's wizard H*tler. Naturally, that doesn't frame him in a good light, morally speaking. He never gets a redemption, either -- I've seen it suggested that Grindelwald intentionally lost his final battle against Dumbledore out of love but there's no actual evidence for that in HP, especially considering how it's mentioned that their final duel was legendary, implying that neither of them held back (and, in any case, losing a fight is not really deserving of redemption) -- though an argument can be made in regards to his final moments. The problem is, we’ll never know for certain whether Grindelwald’s refusal to admit that Dumbledore had the Elder Wand was him honoring what was most definitely Dumbledore’s wishes for the knowledge to be kept secret or if he was still upset that he’d lost ownership of it and he didn’t want anyone else, including Voldemort, to get it.
The bottom line is: Grindelwald and Dumbledore are moral opposites. Any reasonably healthy relationship between them would require a massive shift in personal/moral values (and this is not me saying that people with different values can’t have a happy relationship, but Grindelwald and Dumbledore are two extremes that simply aren’t compatible).
And that’s the tragedy of the whole thing.
Dumbledore is forever haunted by the specter of his relationship with Grindelwald. When Rita Skeeter publishes her biography about him, she talks at length about the summer of 1899, when the two had been lovers and co-conspirators. She mentions how he’d been the one to coin the very phrase that Grindelwald would later use to wreak mass havoc across Europe. There’s no way that someone like Albus Dumbledore, who seemed to prize moral virtue, would ever truly cope with what he’d had a hand in creating.
Grindelwald, on the other hand, was defeated by the very man he’d used to care for and is left imprisoned for fifty years with nothing to do but ponder his actions. Again, we don’t know enough about him to know his thoughts, but -- in the case of someone as ruthless and charismatic as a dark lord -- there was probably rage and betrayal, a sense that someone that used to be his had done this to him.
To me, Grindeldore is not about how they’d be together but rather how they’re affected by the aftermath. Even separated by several countries and fifty years, they will never be rid of each other. Grindelwald was the one to open Dumbledore’s eyes to the injustices of the world and Dumbledore was the one who ultimately foiled all of Grindelwald’s plans.
Grindeldore, in its purest form, is a tragedy, and I find it absolutely fascinating.

I am reading Order of the Phoenix for the first time since middle school and this exchange really made me think about how gendies will say that Dumbledore is bad representation and that he needs to be having very explicit and rough gay sex to be good representation. I think it really illustrates how TRAs don’t like seeing homosexuals portrayed as being a vital, integral part of society, as men and women with strong values. According to them, the only good portrayal of gay people is us being marginalized, not challenging that marginalization and even supporting it, with a voyeuristic emphasis on our sex lives
Tumblr media
(I know TRAs also claim Dumbledore was made gay after the publishing of the books so he shouldn’t even count as representation but 1. section 28. JKR couldn’t write him as being explicitly gay and 2. if you have read DH and “Grindelwald produced a white handkerchief out of his wand and came quietly” and Skeeter portraying Dumbledore as a pedophile preying on Harry to discredit him and didn’t come to the conclusion that indeed Dumbledore’s homosexuality wasn’t invented in 2010, then you lack reading comprehension skills)
like idk re-reading that bit, knowing Dumbledore is homosexual, feels very comforting. He is the most powerful wizard in the world, is recognized as such and is targeted by fascists because of his strong moral compass and sense of justice, that’s sadly not something we see a lot when it comes to gay representation.
TRAs are seething because they don’t like seeing a gay character portrayed as an important and integral part of society, because they don’t see us that way, they want us to remain ostracized and don’t like seeing this portrayal of ‘gay people as inherently and essentially marginalized freaks’ challenged

I saw your post about angst earlier and I thought "atydsp was the *angstiest* most miserable book I've ever read" (it's a compliment btw) and then I remembered that YOU wrote it. So, you being an angst lover and the writer of the angstiest thing I've read, I wanted to ask you for recs(?), If that's ok(?)
Just, what are the angstiest books/fics you've ever read? Like, stare-at-the-wall-and-cry-silently-for-hours, feel-numb-for-days, make-you-want-to-scream-like-your-first-born-died, kind of angst. And, if you want, even throw in there films, music, poems too, idk.
It's all about the feeling. I just want to get my soul ripped apart and bleed-out on the floor again:'(
If it's too much or if it's weird, I'm sorry and feel free to ignore me pls<3
look at me. look into my eyes. you are my favorite person on this website right now. i LOVE this question omg ok buckle up i'm making a list
rae's angstiest-of-all-time recs*:
*with the caveat that this is a subjective list, these are just things that made me, specifically, feel like crying and screaming and staring at the wall for whatever reason. not all of these are stories that end in tragedy; some have happy endings! but if it made me feel like my guts were being twirled around like spaghetti on a fork at some point then it made the list <3
fics:

Just adding to the JKR and gay Dumbledore discussion; another thing to remember is that when JKR began writing the books, Section 28 was still in effect and she likely would have had trouble with putting in nondeniable homosexuality in her books. and yet, as the other anon said, she definitely was laying out the backstory even if she thought she'd never been able to show it beyond coding. In addition, the tabloid reporter who wrote about Dumbledore in the final book, the way she wrote about him, Grindelwald (evil wizard boyfriend), and Harry, it was in the very British way of never saying it outright, but insinuating enough to get the point across while still maintaining plausible deniability to get around British libel laws. To a Briton, it would be far more obvious that the Wizard Tabloid was trying to call Dumbles a flaming q*eer who maybe never should be trusted around young schoolboys (sorry for the language, but that was the sentiment in story). American Tabloids don't have the subtlety, so this might not have pinged anything in American readers. Or came across far more subtly. She also didn't bring up the fact that Dumbledore was gay unprompted for press. She was at a Q&A session in 2007, and a fan asked if Dumbledore ever had any girlfriends or romances [there were a few Dumbledore/McGonagall shippers back then, so the fan may have been trying to ask about that]. She replied, very casually, that well he was gay so no girlfriends but he did have a romance (with Grindelwald). The crowd went bananas, and she seemed surprised, said she would have said something earlier if she thought people cared and would be this happy about it. The scriptwriter for the movies did know, as she once had to tell him to cut a scene where Dumbledore starts talking about a girl he liked in school. She apparently had elaborate backstories for all the main teachers in school, but never found a way to make any of them relevant (aside from Snape's) to the story as it's told from Harry's POV, and most kids don't really give a toss about their teachers personal lives. But she always wrote Dumbledore in a way she thought was coded enough that older readers would pick up on it. But she never tried to toot her own horn, with like LOOK AT MY GAY REPRESENTATION!! LOOK AT HOW BRAVE I WAS! PRAISE ME!!! or anything. She wasn't trying to get praise for gay rep without actually having it be gay, like some people...
I guess now is the time to admit that I assumed the evil boyfriend was Voldemort 💀 I was just like “yeah that makes sense” and I understand if the HP fans want to point and laugh at me
A few people have pointed out the existence of Section 28 in both discussions of HP and GO, and it’s incredibly important context. (Especially when comparing how the two books went about it…one still being respectful to gay fans, and the other being like “okay section 28, you don’t want us promoting homosexuality? We’ll take it a step further and make a joke about burning f slurs, you’re welcome”)
Tbh I’m surprised that the Anti-JKR crowd hasn’t called out the inclusion of that tabloid…it seems like the perfect thing for them to misinterpret and bash her for.
From everything I’m hearing about this, it seems like she’s been very respectful and casual about the whole thing. To me, it seems like she had an idea about her character that she legally couldn’t put into the books, and was honest about it when asked. And she seems to understand that it’s not explicit representation that deserves praise, otherwise when she was accused of being anti-LGBT she’d be all “oh but Dumbledore is gay and he’s amazing representation!”. Meanwhile Neil expects praise for being all “A/C are literally anything you want them to be except gay”
Dumbledore aside, I have a lot of respect for JKR’s support of LGB people from what I’ve seen of her tweets. She’s always one of the first to speak up for lesbians when the TQ+ are being lesbophobic, which I think is really important given her large platform. I have no doubt in my mind that she’s an ally, so it doesn’t surprise me that she handled a gay character so well.
It’s so fascinating that a woman can be this respectful regarding a gay character and receive so much backlash…but a man can be Neil Straightman and have the entire internet kissing his ass. And it’s funny that JKR has lost her belief in gender because of how she’s been treated due to her sex…yet Neil’s sex benefits him so much, which allows him to deny the importance of sex.

This is the Dumbledore we should've had and we missed:
A Dumbledore that should've been an example and a father figure for the students.
A Dumbledore that fights for the injustice of the Wizarding World. The discrimination against muggleborns. Someone who never lets kids fight a war that isn't up to them. But lets them fight for their rights and their opinions.
Someone that understands kids and teens and their needs according to their age. Someone that has fun when he needs to have fun. And also someone who is an authority and scolds when he needs to scold.
Imagine a Dumbledore that is friends with James Potter and encourages him to change and grow up from his immature self. To realize what it is important in life. To try to gain Lily's love by showing her his true self. Not by showing up.
Imagine Dumbledore being a parent figure for Sirius. Letting him know there is nothing wrong with him if he is different from his family. Being a gay guru for him and helping him realize his feelings for Remus. But making sure he doesn't lose himself for love just like he did for Grindelwald.
And imagine him helping queer youth, because he is queer himself.
Imagine a Dumbledore giving Remus confidence. Letting him know that he is not a monster and he deserves happiness and love. Asking him how he is every month. Inviting him for tea and distracting him around the full moon. And with his power, helping him destroy the prejudices people have of werewolves and doing the impossible to change the law against them.
Imagine a Dumbledore making Peter be more sure of himself. Encouraging him to study, letting him know that he is not stupid, that he just needs a bit more effort to learn. Making sure he is not sad about feeling alone or being scared about the war. Because he is the most vulnerable of the Marauders. Making sure Peter knows his friends love him no matter what.
Imagine a Dumbledore that helps kids that are lost, or are forced to take the wrong side. Not by punishing them but by helping them realize their beliefs are wrong or they are more than their pureblood families. Like Regulus, or Barty.
Imagine a Dumbledore that doesn't discriminates muggleborns. In fact, he gives them more importance and love, to demonstrate that they deserve attention as well. And a Dumbledore that gets angry and wild when an injustice occurs.
Imagine a Dumbledore that is Minnie's best friend. Someone that not only cares for her and the rest of the teachers as staff. But as human beings. Someone that understands their personal problems. Imagine Dumbledore helping Minnie realize she deserves a happy ending as well, no matter how much she had suffered. And how much she had lost. Perhaps helping her encounter her past loves again.
Just imagine Dumbledore going against the Magic Government and annoying parents who want to keep the school a conservative elite pureblood place. But tries to transform it into a respectful school for anyone no matter their blood status or skin color or religion or sexual orientation.
Dumbledore should've been a Godfather that is always for students, teachers and staff no matter what. That helps when he is needed. Someone in who people should trust. Students should've loved him as a father. And Dumbledore should've loved the students as his own kids.
Dumbledore shouldn't have been someone that manipulates people. Not someone that gives a false image of himself. Not a selfish asshole that only thought about winning a war. Not someone that used everyone as a pawn in a larger game.
I think Dumbledore had the potential to be a king, a saviour, a role model, a real hero. But he wasn't. He just tricked everyone but he was a coward.

Not much is known about what happened with Albus and Aberforth in the immediate period after Ariana’s death—besides Aberforth’s snide comments in Deathly Hallows about Albus being ‘free to move on’ or whatever—so I’ve been thinking of this story idea as a possibility:
Now-eighteen-year-old Albus still feels duty-bound to stay and look after Aberforth until he’s of age and has finished school, but Aberforth of course hates the sight of his brother now and won’t stand to be in the same room with him for long. On top of that, he’s still dealing with the double-whammy of losing Ariana and being abandoned by Grindelwald.
Enter a mysterious dark-haired stranger who drags the two of them off one another mid-fight, magics away their bruises, sends them to their respective rooms, and then just... moves in.
That’s right, kids, that’s our famous Harry Potter, taking a ‘vacation’ from his purposeless life in the 2000s to help his equally-purposeless mentor in 1899. His desire to do some good for someone he lost leads him to travel back in time (how doesn’t matter, sillies), get the details from Bathilda Bagshot, and then spend a few months tidying up the Dumbledores’ shattered lives.
So Harry breaks up fights every other day, and gets Aberforth to go back to school and get involved in something besides grieving and goat-herding, and gets Albus to eat and go outside and answer his letters and stop brooding about his ex. Harry tries his best to get the brothers to the point where they can function, and maybe go on to become the men he knew them as.
And Albus watches this stranger take care of him and what’s left of his family so effortlessly, so selflessly, and at first he’s envious and self-conscious and openly pissed off about it—but then Harry keeps caring for them, even after Albus yells at him and ignores him and doesn’t come around for weeks and weeks, and, well... you know, Harry’s really a very handsome man. So empathetic. So powerful. So genuine. So Albus falls in love with him, as you do...
...annnd then there’s lots of angst for them both, because Harry is a twentysomething and Albus is only eighteen and he’s got his whole life ahead of him, and this is Harry’s future mentor and what would dating him mean for the timeline, and Albus barely even knows Harry, and is Albus just more inclined to fall for men who are nice to him, and what if Grindelwald comes back and what if he doesn’t ever come back, and is Harry even gay, and...
Idk, it would be fun.~

say Harry came out during Hogwarts - maybe Dumbledore makes him do it to get him further away from the boy who lived persona - does Ron stay friends with him?
The Caveats
...
Bold move, Dumbledore.
For reference, I think homophobia is baked into the wizarding world. Harry coming out, while in school, as gay wouldn't just be a scandal it would "not be done".
And the ostracization, the bad press, the bullying that would ensue because of it would um... not make Harry a stable individual any more likely to do Dumbledore's bidding than in canon. Also, sweet Jesus, would this backfire so easily as while I believe Harry's gay, I don't think Harry knows he's gay.
Remember, in canon Dumbledore got what he wanted, he didn't need to do anything more than he did.
So, I'm going to have to object to the "Dumbledore makes him do it" scheme.
But Back to Your Question
Homosexuality doesn't even seem to be a thing in the wizarding world. Granted, Harry's our clueless narrator, but we see no hint of it and more than one eccentric bachelor who never got married. Dumbledore even being hinted to have had a fling with Grindelwald that is... never quite called a fling.
It looks bad, is what I'm saying.
And as progressive as Ron is about Muggleborns (not even really Muggles, with some of the comments he drops, though he's better than most) this would come out of nowhere for him.
I imagine he'd be very weirded out and not even understand how this works.
Does Harry like... all dudes all the time? Does Harry not like girls at all? Does Harry like Ron because Ron's a dude?
I imagine Ron suspects that Harry has a crush on him, despite Harry vehemently denying this, and acts very awkward about it. I think Ron would be supportive though, generally.
Harry likes dudes. Alright. Weird. But Ron has stuck by Harry through a lot of weird shit like parseltongue, the defaming in fifth year, he can deal with this.
... But Harry has to tell Ron if he's into him. For real, Harry, he has to tell Ron because Ron needs to know. He can't not know.
In this case though, it's the school beyond the golden trio I'd watch out for.

Sooooooo as I write this fanfiction, I think about posting some headcanon. Too bad I can't write the fic in english, sigh. So please excuse if this doesn't make any sense for you:
Lily Evans love BL. She doesn't know that are called like this, but she is a huge fan. That's the reason she wants James AND Sirius
Remus Lupin is afraid of sex. He is afraid he can pass 'werewolf' by sex. He doesn't even kiss anyone around full moon because he is not sure that only bite can pass it, maybe saliva is enought. Not so much studied about this
Peter is a "latin lover", the only one in the Marauders who like only girls and the one who had more girls ever
Sirius is gay. He is in love with James. James is in love with him (and Lily) but is so stupid he doesn't realize it
Mulciber is obsessed with Mary McDonald. He tries to stop thinking about her and fails. That's the reason for the "prank"
Mulciber and Marlene share the first kiss and the first sex with each other
Marlene is abused by her mother's partner
Avery is interested in gay sex but is actually bi and see himself in a future happy straight marriage
Avery fancied Mulciber and he (Mulciber) never realized
My names for Mulciber and Avery are: Marcus Mulciber and Anthony Avery. Yes, just beacuse the firsts letters are the same
Mr. and Mrs. Prince want Severus Snape to become Prince again, and "forgive" him for his father. Severus dream about it for a while so this is the reason for the "Halfbloody Prince"
Mr. and Mrs Prince are friends with Abraxas Malfoy, so that's the reason Lucius became friend with Severus since day one
There are no more Prince. Severus is the last one
Lucius tells Mulciber and Avery to be friend with Severus. They do it because of that
Emmeline Vance had a crush on Remus Lupin
Remus Lupin was mad, and I mean MAD, after the prank. He cannot stand Siriur anymore. Sirius didn't notice because was wrappened in his own gay drama with James
Sirius, despite being gay, has regular sex with Dorcas Meadowes
Sirius and Dorcas were childood friends
Dorcas has a deep crush on Sirius but she knows James always came first and she cannot win
Severus Snape snip away from reality after the prank and the real reason he wants to became a Death-Eater is to be able to kill Sirius Black
Severus Snape also lost hope in society after the prank when Dumbledore downplay the entire thing, ask him to forget it for "poor Lupin" and let James and Sirius go away with it
So Severus Snape want see the world burn and after losing Lily no one can stop him anymore
Dumbledore never stops loving Gellert Grindelwald
I suppose this is enough, so this are headcanons that "can" be canon, so in future I may write headcanon about my "what if" fancition. Maybe.
