don’t let fear of failure hold you back. talent often comes from persistence, not just innate skill. embrace imperfection and keep trying—it’s the key to unlocking your potential.
this one can be so hard to integrate. can’t tell you how many times i’ve neglected to pick up my guitar because i wasn’t a prodigy or instantly good at it and wasted time that i could’ve spent practicing to gradually improve. it’s still something i struggle to shake.
i know a lot of people seem to have been born with great talent and skill but i think a big part of that is really just that they were willing to try and persisting despite any failures along the way. that’s it. i think that’s the key.
the fear of failure (and, likely, the need for instant gratification) looming in the background holds too many great, innovative people back from making great things and developing great talent. i think we’ve been kind of conditioned to be this way. i don’t know if it was something intentional, just a side effect of modern life, or the aftermath of how our society has changed over time.
regardless, don’t be afraid do do something badly or for anything you make to be mediocre. when it comes to doing something we’re interested in doing, it’s worth it to try. unless it involves hurting anyone or doing anything non consensually, of course. i feel like i have to put disclaimers like that… just in case i’ve somehow reached people whose interests involve hurting anybody.
