Heyyy
I don't know if your still doing this but if you are, I would LOVE a Mattheo Riddle, mutual pining, prompt 1. Love you so much.
ask and you shall receive😚💌
mattheo riddle x reader + mutual pining + “who did this to you?”
➺ part of my 2k milestone writing game
The castle is silent when you make your way to the Astronomy tower. Over the last week, you’ve figured out the best possible route to get there after curfew without bumping into Peeves or the Baron while avoiding any particularly loud portraits.
Ever since Hermione started pacing around the dorm while knitting, the Muffliato charm has been rendered useless and the clicking of the needles has driven you crazy. Combined with Fred and George’s experiments in the common room until early hours of the morning, the Astronomy tower is the only place you can get a moment’s peace.
Your footsteps into the tower become hesitant though, when you spot a wisp of smoke coming from behind one of the pillars. After taking a few tentative steps further, you realise with a jolt that it’s none other than Mattheo Riddle sat there, cigarette loosely held between his fingers. You recognise him from the barely visible angle pretty quickly, owing to the fact you’ve found yourself staring at him from afar more times than you’d care to admit.
He doesn’t turn around, flicking at his cigarette and when you shuffle, making a noise, he lets his head fall back to rest against the pillar. “Enzo, if you’re here to pester me again, you can fuck off.”
“Er, not Lorenzo,” you reply, voice quiet in the echoing tower. Mattheo sits up straight immediately, twisting around to look at you with wide eyes. “Sorry…”
“It’s fine,” he says quickly, giving you a hint of a smile. He nods over to a spot near him. “You can come sit if you want.”
You contemplate politely refusing since you probably won’t get any work done with Mattheo right in front of you, but another glance at him has your feet moving of their own accord.
Once he comes into full view, you notice in the moonlight that Mattheo’s nose shows the remnants of dried blood, there’s a bruise blossoming on his cheekbone and his knuckles are split open. It isn’t an unusual sight and you’ve often seen him around the castle either in the middle of a fight or with cuts and bruises as a result of one, yet you still find yourself staring.
Mattheo raises an eyebrow and smirks, despite the cut on his lip. “What, have I got something on my face?”
You blink, silent for a couple beats before clearing your throat. “Who, uhm, who did… this… to you?”
He shrugs, bringing the cigarette back to his lips to inhale. “Some Ravenclaw prick this morning.”
“How come you haven’t healed yourself?” you ask, tilting your head in curiosity. “You normally do by this point.”
Mattheo’s lips quirk up in sort of a pleased smile, his eyes crinkling. “You pay attention to me, do you?”
“No, I- It’s just,” you stammer, fiddling with the corner of your planner and avoiding his gaze. You most definitely do pay attention to him, but you’d much rather jump off the Astronomy tower than admit to it. “You’re always getting into fights. It’s kind of hard not to.”
It isn’t clear if he believes you or not, since his face still displays an unwavering smile, but he nods slowly before answering your previous question. “Enzo usually does it. The healing spells.”
You consider this and hesitate for a few seconds, biting your bottom lip in nervous habit before abruptly standing up and walking over to the Slytherin. Plopping down next to him, you take your wand out of your pocket, which he eyes warily.
“I know some healing spells,” you explain. Raising your eyebrows in question, you point your wand at his face and wait for his consent, which he gives in the form of a nod. Starting with his lip, you mutter “Episkey.” The cut seals itself up, so you do the same with his knuckles before using ‘Tergeo’ to siphon off the dried blood around his hands and nose.
“Back to looking flawless?” he asks with a cheeky grin and you choke out a laugh, surprised at how relaxed he’s being with you. Mattheo isn’t as brooding as the rest of his friends, but he certainly isn’t all sunshine and giggles with people he isn’t close with. And it’s not like the two of you have ever conversed before, so you’re a little more than puzzled. Not that you’re complaining. “What’s had you so exhausted this week?”
“Hermione’s been staying up knitting and I can’t sleep through it like the others,” you sigh, moving back to sit against the pillar like Mattheo is. This is your first night coming to the Astronomy Tower though, so you furrow your brows and turn to Mattheo to tell him exactly that. “How do you-”
“You’ve been nodding off at breakfast,” he says, matter-of-fact. You don’t know how to respond, opening your mouth but not having anything to say. Mattheo notices your loss for words and swallows, suddenly sheepish. The tips of his ears have turned a light pink and he shuffles, making your shoulders touch slightly. “I pay attention to you too.”
“Oh,” you breathe out, heart about to burst out of your chest. You look down to where his hand is on the floor next to yours and in a brave move, you move your own so your pinkies are touching.
Mattheo is silent when he interlocks your fingers, meeting your eyes. His smile reappears, one that feels reserved for you. You’ve never seen him look more gentle before, and when he finally reaches over to kiss you in the quiet, moonlit tower surrounded by the stars, you begin wishing you’d started losing sleep weeks ago.

We Got That Love, The Crazy Kind
Mattheo Riddle X Fem OC/Reader
Word Count: 2153
Warnings: Suggestive, fluff, mild language, torture, blood…
Prompt: Mattheo is awkward about showing affection to you in public, so you both are in a bit of an argument. However, Lavendar has a crush on Mattheo and you’ve had enough. Oliver decides to flirt with you and Mattheo wasn’t having it.
Tumblr media
*Y/N’s POV*
“How long are you and Mattheo going to keep up this silent treatment?” Pansy asks, the both of us walking towards the courtyard.
“Until he can start treating me like I’m his girlfriend. I’m tired of the way he treats me in public. It’s like…he’s embarrassed of me.” I say, shaking my head upset.
I saw that he was sitting by a tree with Lorenzo Berkshire, Blaise Zambini, Draco Malfoy, and Theodore Nott. Our friends, however since this whole argument with Mattheo and I started, I’ve been sitting elsewhere with Pansy.
She didn’t have to sit with me, but she was a good friend even though I knew how close she was with the guys. Not to mention, Draco is her boyfriend. Yet, she decides to sit with me so I won’t be alone.
“I heard he broke up with her.” I hear.
“Yeah. They did. Because he couldn’t get enough of me. Mattheo…he’s good.” Lavender says.
“Whatever you do, and whatever your thinking, don’t do it.” Pansy pleads, but I stand as she curses.
I start walking towards the table she sat at with her friends as Pansy started to speed walk towards the tree where the guys were. I grabbed Lavendar by her hair and she cries out in pain. I drag her off the bench and let her fall to the ground. I wait until she stands up, glaring at me. I lunge at her, pinning her to the wall as I punch her repeatedly.
All I saw was red.
I’ve heard girls talk about Mattheo, but typically they stop when they see the glare I give them. Lavender doesn’t know when to stop.
“I don’t know what your obsession with my boyfriend is, but I’ve had it.” I snap breathlessly between punches.
“Ms. Y/L/N, enough.” Umbridge warns.
I ignore her when I see her pull her wand out. She points it at me.
“Petrificus Totalus!” She shouts, but I pulled my wand free, pointing it in the direction of her and shout, “Protego!”
She gasps, seeming shocked I would fight a spell. I let Lavendar fall to the ground as her friends rush towards her. I look at Umbridge who looked red in the face and was ready to fire another spell off at me.
“Expelliarmus!” I shout.
Her wand goes flying away from her and I storm out of the courtyard, heading towards the Slytherin dorms. I get to mine, slamming the door shut and locking it before going to my bathroom. I close the door, locking it as I look at myself in the mirror.
What have I done?
I’m suppose to mad at him, yet I can’t ignore what Lavendar says…he wouldn’t do that to me. He wouldn’t be with someone else…right? No…that’s…that’s not my Mattheo.
Who said he was still your Mattheo?
I shake my head, ignoring the stinging in my eyes. I turn the water on and watch the water turn a red-pink color as it washes away Lavendar’s and I’s blood. I grab my wand, pointing at one hand.
“Episkey.” I whisper.
I watch the hand heal before I grab my wand and point it at my other hand, doing the same. I look at myself in the mirror. Who have I become?
Tumblr media
I was forced to stand at the front of the class and receive my punishment from Umbridge. She grabs her chair and makes me sit.
“You’ll be punished for the fight you started and then you’ll be punished for ignoring orders from a Professor.” She says.
She gave me a notepad and a quill. I was very aware of what this meant.
“How many lines?” I ask.
“I’ll let you know when it’s finished. I want you to write, “I will not disobey orders”, understood?” She asks.
“Understood.” I say shortly.
I clench my jaw, starting to write my lines as if it didn’t bother me. I ignored the stinging at the back of my eyes and focused on the quill in hand as she taught away. I take in a slow deep breath before letting it out. Blood dripped down my hand and was dripping to the floor. My hands shook slightly, but I continued to do as asked.
“Alright. Good. It’s been half the class. How’s your hand?” She asks.
“Peachy.” I say bluntly, looking up at her with a blank stare.
“Is this you talking back?” She asks.
“You’d know if I was talking back. What next?” I ask.
“I don’t think your punishment is working,” she says as she pulls her wand out, “imperio.”
“What the hell are you doing?” I ask.
“Take the quill, write on your arm. Write mudblood. Until I say stop.” She says.
“You can’t do this!” Mattheo snaps.
“It’s against the rules.” Harry adds, looking quite frightened.
I grimace as I bring the quill to my arm and it digs into it as I write the saying I’ve heard all across my life. I close my eyes, my hand moving and continuously writing “mudblood” into my arm, going deeper each time.
“Mr. Riddle, Mr. Potter, enough. I can punish my students how I like. Maybe this will teach her a lesson.” She says, before going back to teaching.
I opened my eyes, looking at the word that was carved into my arm. A word that haunts me far too much. Maybe that’s why Mattheo is so embarrassed of me. I’m a mudblood. That is who I will always be.
“Alright Ms. Y/L/N, you can stop.” She says and I felt a weight lifted off me.
I throw the quill and pad of paper in her direction as I stand, walking out of the room as I ignore her calls. I get to the Slytherin dorms and Snape stops me.
“It’ll scar, but let me heal it.” He says.
“It’s fine.” I mutter.
He grabs my arm with a sigh, using his wand to heal it. I nod before walking away towards my dorm where I close the door and lock it.
I pull my shirt off and pull on a long-sleeve, wanting to hide that horrid word before I lay on my bed. I hear a knock on my door, but I ignore it.
“It’s me.” Pansy says.
I stay quiet, staring at the wall. She sighs, knocking again.
“Let me in. Let us in. We want to make sure your okay. That wasn’t okay of Umbridge to do. That was…torture.” She says.
“I’m okay. I want to be alone, so leave me alone.” I say calmly, fighting my turmoil of emotions.
Tumblr media
I couldn’t avoid them forever. I avoided them for a good two weeks, by holing myself up in my dorm. Snape brought me my work, but he said I had to return to my classes today.
I was dressed in a long-sleeve shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. I never wore long-sleeves, but I couldn’t get that horrid word off my arm.
I put my hair up in a messy bun, looking at myself in the mirror blankly. I’ve gotten paler over the past two weeks which could be from not eating like I normally should. I had bags under my eyes and my eyes in general just looked tired.
I grab my bag and wand before I began to head towards Umbridge’s class. I walk in and she looks at me surprised.
“And I thought you left Hogwarts.” She mocks.
“And I wish someone Avada Kedavra’d you. Yet, your still here.” I say tiredly, going to my empty seat at the back of the class.
“Do we need to repeat your punishment?” She asks.
“Go on with teaching. Your punishment did nothing the first time and I doubt it would do anything this time.” I snap.
“And detention, Potter. I said, Cedric’s death was a tragic accident.” She says, turning her focus on him.
“Like your birth?” I ask annoyed.
“Y/n, enough.” Mattheo’s whispers harshly.
“Y/L/N, leave my classroom now. I’ve had enough.” She says calmly.
“Gladly.” I say, standing to gather my stuff as she starts to lecture me.
“Umbitch. Lecturing me, and shouting at me, and telling me to hurry up isn’t going to get me to move faster. You should’ve been killed months ago cause you are such a pain in the ass. How did you end up here? Honestly because you are pretty fucked up,” I say, laughing before looking at her, “and you don’t own me.”
I walk out of the room as Draco whistles.
“Damn.” Mattheo mutters.
Tumblr media
I was in the courtyard working on my studies as everyone else finally filed out. I was sitting at the table Pansy and I had been occupying before I holed myself up in my room. Pansy and the guys join us.
“Hey, how are you?” Pansy asks softly.
“I don’t need pity and treated like I’m so broken glass doll.” I say, flipping the page of my textbook.
“We are your friends. We care about you.” She says.
“Well care less.” I say annoyed.
“Snape said it scarred.” She says.
“And if it did?” I ask.
“I know how much you hate that word. Your a powerful witch though. Better than Granger. Let me see it.” She says.
“Y/N.” Oliver says.
“Yes, Oliver?” I ask, looking up.
“Can we talk…alone?” He asks.
My eyebrows furrow, but I nod slowly. I follow him towards a tree that wasn’t occupied, away from everyone. My eyes flicker to my table to see that they kept glancing over and Mattheo was watching intently. I didn’t miss the look of jealously.
“Would you like to go out with me sometime?” He asks.
“Your pathetic, Oliver! You called me over here, to ask me out when you know I have boyfriend!” I exclaim, glaring at him.
“He doesn’t have to know. And he acts like you both aren’t together anyway. I can treat you better.” He says.
“In your wildest dreams, Wood. Get away.” I snap, going to walk past him, but he grabs my arm.
I pull my arm free, backing myself up against a tree as he steps forward. He brushes a strand of hair out of my face that must’ve fallen out from the bun.
“It’s always been you, Y/L/N. Mattheo doesn’t have to know about this. You and I…we’d be a better couple. I could treat you better.” He says.
“You’re a real piece of work, Wood. I love Mattheo, even if he doesn’t show his feelings towards me in public, I love him. Nothing will happen between you and me. Now, let me go.” I snap.
*Mattheo’s POV*
“I think Oliver is flirting with her.” Draco says.
I watch her and could tell she was uncomfortable. She seems upset after whatever he says and was glaring at him. She goes to walk past him, but he grabs her arm and I clench my jaw.
“Don’t do it man.” Theo warns.
“Ah shit. He’s backed her up against the tree and is going in for a kiss.” Lorenzo says.
I get up, storming towards the two of them and I push Oliver down to the ground as Pansy pulls Y/N into a hug.
“Okay, motherfucker now you got my attention.” I say, grinning as I start throwing punches at him.
“Not again.” Lorenzo sighs.
“Mattheo! Come on man! Stop! Umbridge will flip!” Draco snaps.
He and Lorenzo were trying to pull me off of Oliver, but all I saw was red. He touched her and he knew she is mine.
“Don’t you ever fucking touch her again! She’s mine, Wood! Next time I’ll kill you!” I snap.
“Mattheo…please.” She whispers.
I freeze, before looking over my shoulder to see that Pansy and Theodore were holding her back from coming to me. I’ll thank them for that later. Oliver hits me, and I turn back to him and hit him again before getting up.
I walk to her, pulling her towards me. She looks up at me with watery eyes. I lose a hand in her hair, messing up the bun. I pull her closer to me as I lean down and kiss her roughly.
Her hands rest on my chest as she kisses me back. I pull away, resting my head against her forehead as I look into her gorgeous (your eye color) eyes.
“I love you.” She says softly.
“Your mine.” I snap.
“I’m yours.” She says, smiling slightly.
I pull away before throwing her over my shoulder. She gasps, hitting my back as she snaps at me to put her down.
“Not happening. I’ll put you down when we get to my dorm.” I say and her cheeks flush as Draco “ooohs”.
“Mattheo!” She exclaims embarrassed.
“They got that love.” Lorenzo chuckles.
“Yeah, the crazy kind.” Pansy teases.

episkey - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 189
Sirius was not the best student. He was smart- incredibly so- but he couldn't bring himself to care much about school. First if all, school was easy. He could get by without paying much attention. And second, pranks and friends and everything else were much more important, in his opinion.
Which is why it was so shocking to everyone when one day, in fourth year Charms, Sirius raised his hand, looking genuinely curious.
"Er...yes, Mister, Black?" the Professor called on him, looking a bit nervous.
"Could you go over the proper wand work for episkey again?" Sirius asked, scribbling away at the notes he had on his parchment. "I want to be absolutely sure I have it right."
About half the class turned to stare at Sirius, dumbfounded.
"I...yes. Yes, of course," was the response, and Sirius continued writing furiously, nodding along as he listened.
"Sirius...why the sudden interest in Charms?" James whispered to his best friend, nudging him with his elbow.
Sirius took only a second's break to look over at James and whisper back earnestly, "Never know when Moony might need our help, mate."

What I want in a Hogwarts Legacy Sequel
Masterlist
Whilst it might be too much for us to hope for, I really do hope we get a sequel.
For me, I’d absolutely love to have a sequel be a continuation of our story, with the same characters that we’ve come to love, as well as some new ones to interact with.
Starting in our sixth year, what makes the most sense to me from a gameplay/story standpoint would be the Triwizard Tournament. Yes, it’s not canon that it would have occurred at this time, but then our MC isn’t exactly canon either!
So, here are my ideas.
The Overarching Story
A Triwizard Tournament could work for a number or reasons, such as each trial splitting up the seasons in much the same way as the Keepers Trials did, the narrative being that you as the Hogwarts Champion (because of course you are) has to solve puzzles and prepare to fight through various tasks. This will enable the character to learn new spells and potions to help them on their quest. The end of each school ‘term’ would be a Task, much like the Trials. Your friends and teachers could help your prepare for it by teaching you advanced spells, tricks and lore that will help you in your endeavours, as well as our main friends helping you figure out what each task is.
As well as this, there could be some kind of sub-plot that enables our characters to go beyond the Scottish Highlands – naturally we would spend a lot of our time in the world the devs so lovingly created, I’d never want to leave that world behind for anything, and there’s plenty the devs could do to add in new things for us to explore.
The sub-plot I’m thinking of could build on the remnants of the poachers and Ashwinders we defeated at the end of fifth year, and they’ve somehow fenagled the Goblet of Fire to accept only us as the Hogwarts Champion in an attempt to get rid of us, a la Harry Potter. Our investigations could take us to Diagon Alley, the Ministry of Magic, even Azkaban, using spells we’ve learned to solve the mystery.
It could also mean we get to meet students from other schools – yay new friends! Or rivals! Sebastian gets jealous if you flirt with them!
(Also there’s the opportunity for that Yule Ball everyone wants where you can ask one of your friends as a date.)
Oh, and whatever you chose to do with Sebastian at the end of fifth-year (if any of you turned him in I'm coming for your innards) there will be a reason he's back at school - either lack of evidence or Omi used his connections to help bail him out or whatever, but he's still with us.
Spells
We should keep ALL the spells, potion recipes and abilities we had in HogLeg. There’s no way to logically remove said knowledge from our arsenal, and it makes sense that, as sixth-years, we would expand our knowledge of magic and the world around us.
Spells like Reducto, Impedimenta, Episkey and such would be useful and make narrative sense to learn. We could build on our Ancient Magic, the Keepers teaching us a new ability each term that makes narrative sense without overpowering us (I know we’re pretty OP anyway, but stay with me on this). Other spells we could learn could be Expecto Patronum (I reckon an in-game quiz of some kind would be useful for this, as well as our choices in-game impacting on what our Patronus is), even some more unsavoury spells from our favourite curse-master.
We could learn other spells from our other friends as well, who of course would be eager to help us prepare for the upcoming tournament tasks. I reckon Sebastian, though he will have sworn off Dark Magic by this point, would be willing to teach us powerful spells that toe the moral line a bit, defensive magic or stealth spells. He’s very clever, so he’d be the one to teach you the history of the TWT and be instrumental in helping you figure out what each task is. Ominis, of course, could teach us useful detection spells that help him navigate (like a suped-up Revelio or echolocation charm) or healing spells. Poppy could teach us more about beasts (more on that in a minute), Natty could teach us how to become an animagus, Amit could teach us a method to level-up certain magic at night… the possibilities are endless!
Friendships/Relationships
I want all of our original friends to remain our friends and act accordingly – they want to help you win the TWT and help where they can – these could be side quests/tie in to the main quest.
In HogLeg’s original game files, there is a friendship chart. It was sadly scrapped and only in the very early stages of development before it was cut, but I’d love to see it implemented in a sequel. I’d say all major characters and professors should have a relationship meter ranging from -10 to +10, like nemesis to best friends, and your choices matter in this game. For example, you might have to very carefully navigate your relationship with Sebastian and Ominis, because pleasing one might upset the other, and you’d have to make very astute decisions to make them both your besties (I imagine Omi would still be upset with Seb for all he did in fifth year, and part of your relationship quests with them is helping them be friends again at the start).
Other relationship quests could be helping Sebastian repair his relationship with Anne (or helping him accept he's done wrong and he should let her come to him), helping Ominis begin the Downfall of the Gaunts (Gaunt Manor, yo!) and giving Noctua a proper burial, helping Poppy rescue beasts from her parents, getting into trouble gathering ingredients with Garreth, things like that.
Doing favours for other students will impact positively on your relationship, while fucking them over or refusing to help them (like not giving Zenobia her gobstones back, or not giving Puffskein Duncein his Tentacula leaf) would make them dislike you. I think for major characters like Sebastian, Ominis, Natty, Poppy, Amit and Garreth, it’s a given that you’re friends, and you’d have to actively work to upset them and make them dislike you – if one of them does, and you need them to learn a spell or something to progress, you’d need to be nice to them to make them like you enough again to help.
For Professors, doing well in classes (more on that later!) and completing your tasks well would curry favour with them, whilst slacking off, being rude etc would make them dislike you. Professors should be more inclined to give you housepoints if they like you, and dock them if they think you're a little shit.
I’d also like to be able to influence friendships between students as well, but that’s less important on my list of wants.
I’d say at the end of the school year, if enough students and teachers like you, they’ll see your Triwizard victory as a just achievement and celebrate as such, but if you’re unpopular, you won’t get the credit you deserve, with some students commenting that you must have cheated, etc. It's a small thing, but I think it matters.
Personally, I don’t need a romance option in HogLeg (lets face it, nothing could live up to what we’ve dreamed up in the fandom!) but even something as simple as handholding would be amazing.
On that note…
Companions
We NEED companions for the sequel. It's all very well for us PC players, we’ve got mods, but what about everyone else? Companions need to be brought into the sequel, and this is where I’d love the handholding mechanic to come into play. Walking through Hogwarts, the Highlands and Hogsmeade with the option to be holding hands with Natty or Garreth or Poppy or Sebastian or Ominis would be incredible, even if it’s just an animation and it holds no narrative weight. Being able to bring someone along with you, with their little lines of dialogue about your surroundings just makes the game even better than it is by itself.
(Playstation's Ico had a wonderful handholding mechanic, I want it to be like that).
Having your friends with you to fight by your side is, in my opinion, very important. I don’t think companions should join you in the tasks, much like they can’t join you for the Keeper’s Trials, but having them with you while you dash off all over the place and get into trouble would be brilliant, especially if they have more companion-focused dialogue, like Ominis being horrified if you use an Unforgivable in front of him, but encouraging you to get up to a little mischief (you’re quite the covert little thief, aren’t you? 💦💦), Sebastian commenting on your skills when you fight or if you sneak into somewhere you shouldn't be (how funny would it be for companions to comment on you breaking into a professor's bedroom, especially if your companion was a professor!), Poppy sassing enemies left and right, and Garreth using his experimental potions… I could go on forever about how amazing it could be with just a little more.
Lessons
It’s been mentioned that one of the things people would like is the ability to feel more like a student. Whilst I think that too many lessons you have to attend would spoil the freedom of the game a bit, I’ve seen ideas bandied about that your spells can only reach full potential if you do some lesson ‘mini-games’ – I’m on board with this idea. The only worry is it could become repetitive, but provided it’s not overdone and is optional, it could make for more immersive gameplay.
Collectibles/Selling Stuff
I really do like collectibles in RPGs like this, and I think it’s an essential part of the HL/HP games to have them, but I’d like more options to sell things we acquire. Usually by the time we hit winter in HogLeg, I’m so overpowered I don’t need to use wiggenweld except in rare circumstances, and have to actively injure my character in order to take the potion and free up the slots for when my hopping pots all have wiggenweld in them so I can use them again! If we had the option to sell the potions we brew and the plants we grow as well as clothes we find, that would be incredible.
(Also, if we upgrade our clothes, it should sell for more. Just saying.)
Merlin trials can sod off though, unless they make the cutscene skippable.
Beasts and the Room of Requirement
I don’t think the RoR needs much improving on what we’ve got, so at the start of sixth year it should be like it was at the end of fifth, only through the game and exploring the various locations you can get more decorations and furniture you can actually use (like sitting on the sofas or having a cup of tea, or doing your homework at a table, even if it’s just an animation) and the Room gets bigger/gets more rooms. A bedroom, a bathroom, things like that would just be perfect.
We NEED to be able to bring our friends to the Room, and they actually comment on it. Each student should have favourite beasts that they like (and if you bring Duncan Hobhouse in to meet your Puffskeins, he runs away screaming), and they actively play with them/groom them without you directing them (Omi would totes be besties with your unicorns). Poppy, especially, would be happy to see Highwing again, I’m sure.
You should be able to play games with your friends, like wizard chess or the like, which improves your relationships with them regardless of whether you win or lose (but if you win they give you a present), plus sassy dialogue if you lose and comments on your strategy.
New beasts would be amazing, like aquatic beasts, perhaps, winged horses (new mount!), crups and such. Not essential, but I think it would be great.
Choices Matter
Perhaps the most important bit of this long, rambly post is that your choices should matter. Originally there was going to be a housepoint/morality system in HogLeg, and I’ll be damned if I don’t want it for a sequel. Earning points for helping people, completing your class work, rescuing beasts and choosing ‘good’ dialogue options would net you points, whereas being a dickhead would lose you points. You should compete with other houses, and each student should have a percentage of points that they’re likely to win or lose. Sebastian, for example, ever the hellion, would likely lose a lot of points because he’s a rule-breaking little devil, (I imagine Ominis would too, in fairness he’s canonically a bit of a troublemaker too, but he’s just as likely to earn points IMHO). Garreth I think would win and lose points equally – he’s talented, but a bit too strong-headed to really listen to authority. Natty I think would earn more than she loses, etc etc etc. I could go on.
Breaking curfew, casting curses (where you can be seen by a prefect/teacher) or general asshattery could lose you points, but I reckon depending on the difficulty level should impact how easy it is to win points back. I’d say it’s not a given that your house will win the cup, and you actually have to work for it.
Other Bits I Want
Photo Mode – the game’s too beautiful to not have it.
No Mercy Mode – after you complete the main story, we should have this option
Ability to change Seasons after the main game is over
Curfew (turn on/off) – it’d be fun to have, but the ability to turn it off would be great so it doesn’t get too troublesome
No flight restrictions. Let me fly over Hogsmeade, damnit!
More enemy types – including dementors/lethifolds
Alohomora just unlocks doors – no shitty minigame
Functional Common Rooms – sleeping in your bed to speed time, classmates congregating there at night/going to bed (don’t care if they have to teleport there), etc.
Meals in the Great Hall – even if it’s just an animation, it’d be nice to sit with your friends.
At LEAST one F-bomb from one of the characters. Unexpected and hilarious. But which one?
I’m sure there’s plenty more I’ve missed or some things that just won’t work, but this would be my ideal sequel. Thoughts?

Hey,
Happy birthday!!!
I really love your writing
Since you asked for fic/drabble ideas or things like that, I thought of something like MC being hurt badly and trying to hide it cause they know that Ominis/Sebastian will get mad, but they find out anyway
Have a great day, you're awesome ♡
Oops this turned into a full on oneshot, haha! Thanks for the prompt!!! I had fun writing this and exploring the trio's friendship a little bit more :)
Sebastian Sallow x Reader/MC x Ominis Gaunt (platonic) (Maybe Ominis x MC if you squint)
Word Count: 1.3k
Warnings: Injury
Breathing was starting to hurt a lot more than it should. As you walked slowly through the empty halls of Hogwarts, you were forced to take shallow breaths, the pain in your side nearly unbearable.
The rib (or ribs) had to be broken---there was no other explanation for the piercing pain that persisted long after taking your usual Wiggenweld. While the foul tasting potion worked wonders on the minor bumps and bruises, it did nothing for the fractures in your ribcage.
You'd been studying some healing magic--you, Ominis, and Sebastian had started the N.E.W.T. level class for Healing this last year, though Sebastian had taken to it much better than either of you. He was a natural. You were merely passible.
Anyone with common sense would have gone straight to their best friend who they knew could help them, but you didn't have common sense. What you did have was an anxious feeling whenever you though of your two friends chastising you for getting hurt once again. They'd tried to tell you over and over again not to go out to the Highlands alone, but it was a habit that was hard to break. Unfortunately, you ran into a poacher who cast a very powerful Depulso and ruined your night.
As a result, you went with the option that was probably really stupid---heading to the Undercroft to attempt to heal yourself in private.
You'd left your healing textbook there, and you thought about what spell would work best as you struggled to walk through the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower under the Disillusionment charm, hand pressed to your side. Episkey probably wouldn't work, you thought. That one was fine for broken toes or noses, but a whole rib...
Your thoughts trailed off as you opened the door to the Undercroft and heard the voices achoing from inside.
Blast that noisy door. No use turning back now.
You heard Ominis call out your name as you dropped your hand from your side, attempting to stand up straighter. "Is that you?"
"Yeah, it's me," you called back, trying not to wince at the effort it took to speak.
"'Bout time you showed up," Sebastian said, grinning at you. He had his wand out, poised at the training dummy the two of you had nicked during sixth year. "We were starting to worry a dragon ate you."
You laughed a bit, forcing down the wince it caused. "No dragons this time, I'm afraid."
Your feet stayed planed firmly in their spot. It would be difficult to walk without showing signs of pain; if you could just stay perfectly still...
"Why the hell are you just standing in the doorway?"
Damn Sebastian and his ability to perceive you.
You braced yourself for half a second and took a step forward, face kept in a perfect mask as the pain pierced you once again. "Just trying to decide if I had the energy to put up with you two tonight."
Ominis frowned from where he was leaning against the wall. "You're breathing weird."
Oh, for Godric's sake--
"I'm not--I just came from the Highlands, it was quite the walk, alright?"
Sebastian narrowed his eyes at you. "Are you hurt?"
You clenched your jaw. "No. I'm fine."
But of course he wasn't satisfied with that answer. He could see right through you, and so could Ominis, whose nose scrunched slightly at the obvious lie that left your lips.
Without warning, Sebastian aimed his wand at you, and a basic cast was headed your way in an instant. You moved purely out of instinct, twisting to put up a shield to block it, and crying out at the fire that ran through your nerves at the movement.
You collapsed to your knees, gasping for air as the two Slytherins rushed over to you, talking over one another.
"Sebastian, what did you do? Are you alright, what's happened---"
"They blocked it, don't point the finger at me---"
They were both crouched down, reaching out to you. "I'm fine," you hissed between shallow breaths, trying to push their hands away.
Ominis let out a rueful laugh. "I think we're a little past that, aren't we?" His hand wrapped around your wrist in a gentle but firm grip.
"Where does it hurt?" Sebastian asked.
You scowled down at the floor, stopping your struggles against them. You'd been defeated. "My side," you said softly. "I think I've got a broken rib. Or two."
"And why are you here instead of the hospital wing?" Ominis said, holding your arm steady as you shifted to sit on the floor.
"Because she's suspicious enough of me," you replied. "She already knows I get into trouble outside the castle. Better to not to let her in on how much trouble it is."
"Too much, obviously," Sebastian said, frowning at you. "Were you planning on healing this yourself? You can't even preform the bandaging spell properly."
"I figured I'd get it eventually," you said lamely. Ominis's hand hadn't left your arm, and you found the contact comforting, despite the scowl he had on his face.
Sebastian sighed. "Why didn't you just ask us for help? I should be able to take care of it."
You started to shrug, but stopped halfway through the action when it made you wince.
"And I thought Sebastian was the idiot of the three of us," Ominis said.
"Hey."
"You know I'm right."
Sebastian didn't have a proper retort for that, and instead reached forward, letting his hand hover over near your side. "May I?"
You nodded, not seeing the point in refusing any longer.
His fingers brushed over your ribs, and in just a moment you sucked in a sharp breath, whimpering when that only caused the pain to worsen. "Right here?" he asked. You nodded in confirmation.
Ominis's hand traced down your arm and held your hand as Sebastian pulled out his wand. You squeezed his hand, preparing yourself for the quick pain fixing the bone would cause you. Sebastian muttered the spell, and with a sudden surge of fire in your side, you were healed. You let out a deep breath, making full use of your lungs once more.
Sebastian patted your shoulder as you frowned at the floor. "That wasn't so bad, was it?"
"It wasn't the physical pain I was worried about."
Ominis chuckled. "Ah, yes. You're worried about the psychological damage we'll cause by chastising you, is that it?"
"More or less."
"Then we better get it over with, shouldn't we?" Sebastian said, shifting to sit at your side instead of across from you.
"Or we could avoid it entirely," you said hopefully.
"Not a chance," Sebastian said.
"You haven't left us a choice," Ominis added.
Who would have thought the two of them agreeing on something could be so much more annoying than their bickering?
"Look, we know we can't stop you from going out there," Sebastian said. "You're just as stubborn as I am, which I wish was a complement."
"It's not," Ominis interjected.
"Yes, thank you, Ominis. But we just want to know you're safe when you get back."
Ominis squeezed your hand once more. You hadn't really realized he'd still been holding it. "We worry, you know." His voice was soft.
You sighed. They were right. And you hated it. As much as they might protest, they'd always let you do your thing. They'd always been there for you with the outcome, just like tonight. And you'd repaid them by disregarding their worries and throwing yourself out into danger over and over agin. "I know. I'm sorry. You're... you're right."
Sebastian smirked. "There's that psychological damage."
You laughed quietly. "Yes, it's painful to say it, I assure you. But... I should stop. I will stop." You looked at the both of them, sitting on either side of you. "For you two."
Ominis let out a sigh. "I'll hold you to that, you know."
You smiled. "I know. I'll be needing it."
Sebastian grinned. "Now that you can block without collapsing like a pile of bricks, think I could show you a couple of spells?"
The night went on, and you started to realize how unimportant those trips to the Highlands really were. Why spend any time out there, when you had all you needed right in front of you?

If Sebastian and Ominis had a child, they would have this lil thing. He speaks Parseltongue, constantly drags snakes inside the house, is so clumsy that Episkey and Repairo are the main spells of the household, and is positively spoiled. His favourite word is "no" and he calls Ominis Mimi instead of papa. Sebastian allows him too much and Ominis too little.

Make it right
Draco spat the blood out of his mouth before wiping his chin clean. Shame burned low in his stomach at the reality of it all: his return to Hogwarts after the trial, his sentencing to ten years of Ministry work following graduation, and his inability to defend himself under the strict guidelines of his probation. Each day brought with it new tortures in the form of taunts, hexes, and fists. The worst part was that he didn’t even try to avoid punishment. He chased it the way his friends used to take potions—often, and in great quantities.
Like, for example, today.
He could have walked away the second class ended, made his way back to the castle and the safety of his dorm room. Instead, he’d watched Hagrid saunter off into the Forbidden woods to gather Acromantula venom, gathering his belongings in as slow a manner as possible.
He’d seen the way Finnegan glared at him throughout the entire duration of class, how he’d exchanged whispers and nods with the other wizards near him.
The jelly-legs jinx hit him just as he made to stand with his bag, sending him sprawling face first into the boulder towards which he faced. He’d turned his head just in time to avoid a broken nose, but the impact on his teeth still cut up the inside of his mouth.
“Why didn’t you move, or at the very least, block that?”
He didn’t have to turn around to recognize that voice. It was the voice he heard in his dreams tinted with screams and piss and so much blood.
It was the voice he most desired and feared. Of anyone, she was the one who most deserved justice against him. He wanted her to kick and scream at him, call him all the terrible names he knew fit.
“Because it’s the very least I can offer them.”
She cast the counterspell, and Draco stood to brush the dirt off his clothes, leaving smears in their wake. He could use a charm to vanish the mess, but he hardly ever used magic outside of classes anymore. The weight of his wand felt like clasping the hand of a stranger now, rather than the comforting friend it had always been in the past.
“Scourgify.”
The marks he’d left behind vanished. He turned around to yell at Granger for her meddling and complete lack of self-preservation. The words never left his lips, instead becoming trapped on his tongue as she moved the tip of her wand up to his face without the slightest hesitation. Was this the moment he’d been waiting for?
“Episkey.”
The sharp pain in his cheek faded to nothing, and he probed the spot with his tongue to verify the cuts had healed.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Her actions didn’t make any sense to him. She shouldn’t be here, cleaning him up and casting healing spells.
“Righting a wrong,” she said, her voice calm and steady as if the response was only natural.
“Righting a wrong.”
He couldn’t help but repeat what she’d said, in utter disbelief at the implication. “Are you daft?”
“What’s daft, Malfoy, is you seeking out every single person looking for petty revenge.” Her rebuke was quick, slapping him with her disapproval.
“Finnegan deserves some satisfaction just as much as I deserve punishment,” he choked out. This was the first time he’d dared utter them aloud, even though he’d said them to himself a million times and more. He chanted them, repeated them almost like a prayer each night.
“Looking for pain the way that you are doesn’t make any of it right.” Her gaze, a clear shade of light brown like the honey he stirred into his tea, pierced him straight through. She saw too much.
Then again, she always had.
Trapped under his eyes the way that he was and feeling a rare moment of naked honesty, he again let out more of his true self.
“I don’t know what else to do.”
At that admission, she cocked her head to the side, chewing on her lip like she often did when considering a particularly trying problem. Her brows rose, lighting up as an idea came to mind.
“Catch.”
Not a half second later, her bag was flying towards him. He caught it just before it hit the ground, the weight of the shelf’s-worth of books she must have stuffed into it nearly knocking him on his arse.
“Bloody hell, Granger, this thing must weigh more than a hippogriff,” he grunted, hoisting the bundle more evenly into his arms. She smirked at the gripe, remembering a specific hippogriff and his specific blunder then.
“You’re my study buddy now, and you’ll accompany me to and from class and the library until graduation. Your choice, of course.” Spinning on her heels, she started her ascent back to the castle with the full expectation of his acquiescing to her offer.
Draco’s mind went through a series of mental gymnastics over the turn of events as he watched the distance increasing between them. He could drop her books and go his own way. Malfoys didn’t bow to others.
Unless they were Voldemort.
Or sentenced to Azkaban.
Or…
He could swallow his pride and follow the witch. Maybe she knew the real meaning of justice. Maybe she could help him figure out who he was outside of the family name and the Mark.
His mind made up, he grit his teeth and took the first step towards a future of his own making. He found Granger stopped and facing his way as she waited. The smile that stretched across her face when she noticed him moving hit him as hard, if not harder, than her ridiculous bag.
A smile for him rather than at his expense.
With she the giver and he the recipient, the smile took on a whole new meaning. Perhaps instead of seeking his own pain, he could seek joy for her and, just maybe, for himself.

Seven Sentences Sunday
Thank you for the tag, @kippipies! This is a belated response because I wanted to share a snippet of this upcoming scene from Paved With the Best Intentions, but I needed to finish the chapter that set it up first.
(I think I have more than seven sentences, but um, it's seven lines-ish in Google Docs?)
The baking trap slips, and forgetting that he has yet to put on oven mitts, Harry grabs it. The pain sears through his right hand, and swearing, he drops the tray with a clang on the kitchen floor. “What happened?” Tom demands, rushing inside the kitchen. “Nothing, I’m fine,” Harry says, fumbling for his wand with his non-dominant hand. “Episkey. There.” Indeed, the skin is knitting together as the magic forces the blisters and the pain to retreat. He gives Tom a reassuring smile, but Tom is gazing at his hand intensely. Without warning, he seizes it, lifts it to his lips, and licks a long, slow trail over the palm.
I don't use Tumblr enough to know who hasn't been tagged yet. But if you're seeing this in your feed and have a snippet to share, please feel very welcome to do so :)

"Do you think I should change back?" Hesperia mumbled in a hushed voice as she and Remus crisscrossed between students through the narrow corridor. He was doing his best not to step on anyone's feet, which was quite a challenge as his pointy Oxford shoes neared twice the size of some of the children's. The brown leather material was flaky in some places, the heel worn out and uneven.
He answered with a shrug, now trying his best to maintain balance when the train suddenly moved, rattling through the tracks once again with a deafening screech of wheels.
"I don't think that will be necessary. They probably thought you were wandering somewhere around the train."
She sighed in relief and attempted to tuck a loose strand of hair back into the chignon.
"Splendid. I don't think that shaggy old floor mop would digest the chocolate very well. I don't plan on dying tonight, not until I've had at least two servings of butterbeer croquembouche."
A giggle rumbled through his chest as they reached their respective compartment. The children were still there, now a bit calmer as they discussed the preceding events. Remus gave a short nod in the direction of the now-empty package of chocolate.
Hesperia raised her eyebrows in contentment and then softly cleared her throat, a shy shiver running down her spine when the passengers looked at the two of them.
Their surprised faces scanned the new stranger, the boys were especially flustered when she gave them all a warm smile. Harry discreetly looked the woman up and down, stopping when she made eye contact with him.
Her eyes…that's impossible.
"Are you feeling better, Harry? We'll be arriving at Hogwarts in ten minutes." Remus gained back their attention when he spoke. They were already getting used to his calm, silent voice. He seemed to have an unusual sort of authority, one won over by pure kindness. But it was their first time hearing the woman speak.
"Professor Lupin kindly filled me in on the problems we've run into. I'm sure Professor Dumbledore will investigate how those beasts got in here. Don't burden your minds with that, now. There's no safer place than Hogwarts, right?" she assured them. Her words carried through the air as if they were soft clouds, sweet to their ears like butterscotch.
Remus nodded and motioned towards the leather seats.
"May we join you?" he asked politely, his tired smile growing wider when the children nodded and muttered silent, assuring replies. Harry shuffled to the side so the professors could sit in the same place where Remus slept, oblivious to the cat's sudden disappearance until Ginny's shy voice peeped from the corner.
Hesperia got up in the meantime and reached for the copy of Daily Prophet that was tucked under her ragged suitcase, stubbornly staring into it when she sat down and heard Ginny's tremoring question.
"Professor, I- I'm sorry, but where is your Mittens?" she stuttered and her face was almost as red as her hair now. His eye twitched for the slightest second before he shifted in his seat, sticking his hands into the pockets of his robe.
"Oh, Mittens is not mine, she's just a stray. I used to meet her a lot around the grounds when I went to school, which was…let's say some years ago. More than I'd like to admit." he grinned and casually rested his head on the window.
"I was quite surprised to see her after all that time. She was looking rather ragged, though. I guess age is catching up to her." he shrugged as Ginny giggled. His ears caught the subtle rustle of paper when Hesperia gripped the Prophet tighter.
Oh, you're surely getting the claws when we get there, prick.
She was torn out of the long silence that followed when the train stopped with a shrill sound of metal grinding against metal.
"Looks like we're here! Ah, I hope there will be broiled potatoes." Remus stretched and gave everyone present a wide smile before getting up, probably too fast for his exhaustion, because his vision went fuzzy for a moment and he stumbled backwards. Neville caught him, his big ears as red as his favourite cherry liquorice sticks from the snack trolley.
The professor patted his slouched shoulder and thanked him. He just nodded and nearly ran out of the cabin, stumbling over Hesperia's small suitcase in the process.
"Well, it was a pleasure to meet all of you! See you around." she nodded and handed Remus his cane before disappearing from their sight with a small wave.
When she walked outside, ropes of frigid rain were falling from the sky with loud splashes and clouds occasionally cracked with bright lightning. She softly swore under her breath, cringing as wet drops ran under the collar of her robe. Remus carefully limped down the stairs of the train and when he hit the ground with a heavy huff, she snorted.
"Who did you say was getting old?" she hissed at him but couldn't hide the grin playing at her lips when he looked at her, his green eyes wide. He smacked his lips in annoyance and softly punched her arm. He took out his wand, pointed it at the sky and a transparent umbrella sprung out of its tip, successfully shielding both of them from the pouring rain.
She lifted his small luggage from the ground and held it along with her own so he could use his cane as well as his wand. Ignoring his protests, she scooted over closer to him and hooked her arm into his when he offered it with a sigh.
"Mimi, you don't have to -"
"Shush, pay attention to your steps, now. You can be a gentleman tomorrow." she cut him off and tugged on his arm to make him move.
She heard Hagrid's booming voice calling the first-years to join him and she melted, the nostalgia finally catching up to her.
They made their way over to the carriages, gravel crunching under their shoes as they walked on the road surrounded by various blooming bushes and small flame spheres that hovered above the ground. The carriages they seemed to be dragged by strange, naked creatures now. They resembled horses and birds alike, their wings scaly and skeletal. Thestrals.
"Makes sense that we would see them, now...after everything," Remus mumbled in her ear, his warm breath making her freezing cheek pleasantly flush. She just soundlessly nodded and let go of him, climbing into one of the vehicles with a soft huff.
Three fairly grown-up girls, presumably seventh-years, hesitantly joined them. Their hair was soaked and their teeth rattled in the cold autumn breeze that fluttered around them as the Thestrals moved. Their faces turned pink when they noticed the unusually young and unusually handsome professor and his gentle smile.
"Engorgio!" he commanded and the transparent umbrella expanded with a high-pitched squeal until it hovered over the whole carriage. The group's cheeks flamed even brighter now, stifling giggles when he spoke.
"Better?" his sweet voice carried through the air and the girls nodded, gingerly thanking before murmuring something among each other. She cursed her pitch-perfect hearing.
Why couldn't I have transformed into a mole rat instead?
"Show-off," she muttered under her breath and he shrugged, a smug grin reaching all the way up to his twinkling eyes.
When they arrived in front of the castle and hopped out of the vehicle, she spotted Harry and the others from the train in the distance. They seemed to be in some sort of conflict with a trio of boys she didn't see before when they passed the compartments on the way here. Remus raised an eyebrow as they neared the group.
"I wonder whose son that is," he mumbled with a sarcastic smirk when they were close enough to notice that the loudest student had shiny, platinum blonde hair. She scoffed and did her best to put on a professional façade.
"Is there a problem?" Remus questioned in a firm but friendly tone and they stopped by the band of teens. He was remarkably better at keeping his temper than her, which was quite ironic considering his condition. Her disdain was hidden behind an unconvincing smile.
Draco Malfoy and his two companions turned around and looked the professors up and down, silver and green ties nonchalantly thrown around their necks. Now that they were illuminated by the golden lights of the castle and standing right in front of them, Harry noticed just how much shabbier they looked in comparison to the river of people flowing into the castle.
Remus Lupin was a tall, tall man. And yet, his ill-fitting robes still seemed to loosely flutter around his fairly broad stature. The tweed suit he had under his long grey robe was pilling around the buttons and loose threads were sticking out of his mousy brown tie. The rough woollen coat that hung down from his shoulders had clumps all over and it looked frankly uncomfortable to wear. His dark brown Oxfords were worn-out and creased all over.
His female companion didn't look much fancier. Her fawny suit was from a lighter type of wool than his, but it was no less crumpled. Her trousers ended above her ankles, it was hard to decide if they were supposed to be that way or if she had them for years and simply grew out of them. The high leather boots on her feet were slightly pointy and had a small and stocky hourglass-shaped heel. The shoelaces were tightly knotted, looking like they might fall apart at any moment.
Her moss-green robe had a few patches from a different fabric and her mustard-yellow parka was the only piece of clothing on both of them that looked semi-new.
Malfoy must've went through the same thought process, because his already judgemental smirk grew even wider when he saw Remus's scarred face, pale and exhausted. The grey strands in his hair glinted under the soft lights that escaped through the windows.
"No problem at all…professor." Draco sneered and gave Harry, Ron and Hermione one last scoff before waving off his two beefy friends and joining the mountain of heads moving up the stairs. Ron gave them an apologizing smile and Hesperia patted his shoulder.
"Enjoy the feast." she winked and turned around when she heard Professor Flitwick's high-pitched voice from around the corner. Ron caught the slightest hint of her perfume when she whipped her head around and his red ears nearly started glowing in the dark rainy night.
"Hessie! Remus! I've been looking for you all over, where were you hiding?" Flitwick mused, waving at them to join him. They exchanged a big grin and waved Harry and his friends goodbye, rushing to the small man's side. They affectionately shook his hand and he led them to the back entrance reserved for teachers.
They entered a small lobby that continued to The Great Hall, where most teachers already sat at their places, waiting for everyone to arrive. Remus waved his wand to make the umbrella disappear with a puff of raindrops and hung his cane on one of the armchairs. Hessie put the two suitcases on the floor, taking off her parka.
Professor Sprout just walked in with a deep frown on her face.
"Filius, how in Helga's name am I supposed to -"
She stopped in her tracks when she noticed the new faces and her annoyed expression immediately changed to a delighted smile.
"Remus! And Hessie, too! Merlin's beard, come here, my lion cubs." she exclaimed and stomped through the lobby with a boisterous giggle. She gave them both a big bone-crushing hug before standing on her tiptoes to pinch Remus's cheek. He blushed at the sudden attention.
"My dear boy, look at you! You've grown so much!" she sniffled and turned to Hessie, took her hands and spun her around.
"Let me have a proper look at you, rosebud. My dear Hessie, as sweet as ever!"
Professor Sprout took out a lacy handkerchief and patted her eyes dry. Hessie bit her lip to contain the embarrassed smile that curled on her lips. The stocky witch sighed and put her handkerchief back inside her robes, softly clapping her hands.
"We're so honoured to be back, Professor." Remus awkwardly stuck his hands into his pockets and Professor Sprout tutted.
"Oh, stop it, sweetheart. Call me Pomona. We're so delighted to have you here with us. Truly, right before you arrived, Filius was just talking about - Filius?"
Her eyes widened when she realized she came in to complain to Professor Flitwick and franatically looked around the room. He elegantly snuck out of the room when she was busy blowing her nose.
"Filius!" she lamented and ran out of the door without a word, muttering something under her breath before calling out for him again.
They broke into giggles as soon as she disappeared behind the corner. She walked up closer to him and smoothed his robes, spotting cat hair on his chest. They fell silent and he looked down at her lovingly, allowing himself to study her face now that she was busy taking out her wand.
Her eyebrows were knitted in concentration as she muttered a string of incantations, first removing the clumps on his suit with a simple wave, then swishing it to make the loose threads vanish and finally move onto the tear near the bottom of his robe, intricately twirling the tip as the fabric seemed to attach itself together.
She didn't seem to age a day since they last walked through this castle. Even back then she had a few silver threads in her hair.
His eyes fell on the long scar that graced her skin. A wave of sickness jolted through his body and he bit down on his bottom lip so roughly a drop of blood appeared on it. She seemed to have a potent radar for Remus's self-loathing thoughts, so she looked at him, put her wand away and reached up, wiping the red stain with the pad of her thumb. His eyelids involuntarily fluttered closed as his fists clenched in his pockets.
"How many times did I tell you not to chew your lips?" she whispered when he opened his eyes. They were exhausted and bordered with dark circles. And despite all the pain they carried, they were so warm, so caring it made her heartbeat stutter. He softly shook his head.
"I cannot count that high, Mittens," he said and breathed out a shivering sigh.
Both of them jumped when Albus Dumbledore cleared his throat, watching them with arms akimbo as his grey robe fluttered in the cold breeze that flowed in through the main door. The expression on his face seemed deliberately bored as if he was standing there for hours.
"I see you've already settled here comfortably. Splendid!" his voice echoed through the stone walls and he giggled when he saw their terrified expressions, walking up to them with open arms.
Hessie let out a silent chuckle and straightened her robes. Remus sheepishly took the hands out of his pockets, clasping them behind his back.
"Sweet Hessie." he kissed the back of her hand before softly caressing her cheek.
"And Remus, my dear friend. What a joy to see the two in these halls again. I'll forever be in your debt for this." he shook Remus's hand and patted his back, taking both of them around the shoulders.
"You have missed the usual professors' meeting, but pay no mind to that. I will fill you in on everything. Now, tell me - ah, Severus! Right on time as always."
They both set their eyes on the towering figure in the doorframe. His posture was unbelievably straight, not in the slightest similar to the hunch he was stuck in when they last saw each other.
Severus Snape was piercing them with narrowed eyes, thy were so astonishingly dark they didn't seem to reflect any light. He was completely wrapped in layers of long black robes, only his pale sinewy hands peeked out of his sleeves while he folded his arms.
'What's up, Snivellus? Stumbled upon some shampoo lately? 'Cause it doesn't seem like it. Levicorpus!'
James Potter's phantom voice echoed through her ears as she studied his greasy raven hair, her eyes rapidly blinking off the embarrassment. She hated that nickname almost as much as she hated Snape himself, along with his supremacist friend group.
She wondered if he ever knew that. If he remembered that she and Remus loathed their friends’ treatment of him. Considering his hostile scowl, though, it seemed like enabling was just as heinous as bullying in his eyes. She couldn't fault him for that, so she averted his stare by peeking inside the noisy Great Hall.
"Severus, you've met Remus and Hessie before." Dumbledore walked up to him and motioned him inside the lobby. Remus was as uncomfortable as her when he stuck out his palm to shake Snape's veiny hand.
"I've had the pleasure." he simply stated, his voice impossibly deep and cold as ice. Remus gave him a small, genuine smile, but Snape just turned to Hessie, shaking her hand with a similarly steely grip.
"Severus will supply you with the Wolfsbane potion as often as you'll need. The ingredients in his pantry are of utmost quality, as are his skills, of course. I'm fully convinced that we'll be able to ease your suffering, Remus. I promise." Dumbledore assured him, sensing the tension in the room.
Remus nodded.
"Oh, I have no doubts about our Potions Master's skills. Severus, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am in your debt." he gave him a polite nod, nervously picking on the skin around his nails.
Snape stood motionless, like a Muggle portrait before giving Remus a lopsided, dishonest smile and with a dramatic swish of his black robe, he turned around and headed towards his seat behind the teachers' table. Dumbledore shrugged and gave them a reassuring smile, waving towards the door as he led the way to The Great Hall. They exchanged a nervous sigh and followed him.
● ● ● ● ● ●
"With great honour, I'd like to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin and Professor H. Lynx, who were generous enough to accept my offer and share the open position of Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers."
Dumbledore introduced the young duo and they both got up, giving the packed dining hall a court, shy bow. They grinned at each other and sat down, looking around the room as the lukewarm cheers died down.
"For those who seemed to be puzzled by this unusual precaution, the Hogwarts faculty has discussed the…inconsistencies in the previous years and deduced that it would be wise to employ two teachers at once. In case one of them got possessed by anything, be it villainy or incompetence," he added with a knowing smirk and cheerful laughter carried through the packed room.
Harry caught Hessie's eyes and she gave him a disarming wink, making his cheeks flood with a patchy blush.
She seemed so familiar.
The excitement after Dumbledore’s announcement of the new Care of Magical Creatures professor got a considerably louder applause as Hagrid sheepishly stood up and hit the long table with his large belly, making Remus's goblet of wine fall on the floor with a twinkling rattle. He just laughed it off and continued clapping as a new goblet appeared in front of him out of thin air.
The joyous atmosphere seemed to quickly vaporize when the headmaster’s speech turned to the topic of Dementors and their reason to lurk around the castle.
When his name boomed through the stone walls, Hessie felt as if someone dropped a bucket of freezing water down her robe, frigid dread running down her spine.
Twelve years and it still didn't hurt any less than when she got the owl on the fateful Hallowe'en night. She heard Remus's deep sigh beside her as he stared at the table. Her peripheral vision caught Snape's dark eyes boring into her skull, mouth twisted in a mocking grin.
A memory consumed her whole consciousness.
She was stomping through the tall grass with deafening ringing in her ears, her nostrils shivered as she huffed out heavy breaths. The Whomping Willow, covered in snow, was getting smaller and smaller as she walked away, looking almost indistinguishable from a harmless tree when she finally reached the castle's back door.
She never ran up the stairs to the Gryffindor Tower as quickly as that evening. The Fat Lady was just falling asleep when she walked up to the portrait, biting the inside of her cheek to contain her shaky voice.
"'Shrivelfig juice.'" she said firmly, trying to mask the anger spewing out of her brain. The Lady peevishly grunted and opened her eyes.
"Merlin's beard, what are you doing up at this hour? I was just about to indulge in my beauty sleep - "
"I SAID 'SHRIVELFIG JUICE‘!" she exclaimed, her eyebrows knotted in a deep frown. The Fat Lady gasped and reluctantly opened the entrance, muttering complaints under her breath.
"The audacity! I thought you had manners, young lady!" she called after her, but Hessie couldn't hear any of it. The ringing in her ears got too loud when she entered the common room and slammed the door behind her.
A handsome young man was sitting by the fireplace in one of the velvet armchairs, the flames illuminated his chiselled features. His grey eyes were scanning a Muggle motorcycle magazine but he immediately hopped up when he noticed her, greeting her with a signature wide grin as his dark locks nonchalantly cascaded around his face.
His joyful expression quickly fell when she charged at him and decked him in the face so hard he stumbled back down on his seat.
Her fist slowly filled up with white-hot pain when she heard a soft crack upon the impact. Her index finger was now bent at an unnatural angle.
"What the -"
"You self-centred prick! What exactly did you think you were doing?!" she shrieked as she held her bleeding knuckles, the pain was like gasoline to her fury. He looked up at her, mouth full of blood. His nose was letting out a small drop as well, tickling the bow of his lips. He immediately knew what she was talking about.
"What's gotten into you? It was a joke, Mimi -"
"Don't Mimi me, you fucking idiot! He could have died!"
"Serves him right, didn't he call you a scar-faced cunt yesterday?"
"Serves him right?!" she screeched again, pacing in front of him like a hungry lioness in her cage. Her chest rapidly heaved. They were lucky the whole tower was gone for an overnight field trip to Hogsmeade.
"He's a sinister, greasy little cockroach. He had it coming. Someone ought to give him a little scare." he hissed and wiped the bloody nose with the sleeve of his yellow-red sweater.
She scoffed.
"So you took it upon yourself, a hero of the people!"
He took a breath to say something but she harshly cut him off.
"You don't value human life? Fine. Suit yourself. But did your omnipotent brain even consider what would've happened to Moony if he had ripped that fuckface to shreds? How he would feel if he woke up in the hospital wing tomorrow and found out he'd torn someone's beating heart out? Did you worry about the consequences for your best fucking friend?!" she screamed in his face and he fell silent, putting together that this was the true core of her wrath.
And he truly didn't realize any of it. She was right and he was arrogant and careless. He felt humiliated. She could see right through him at that moment, so she gave him a joyless grin.
"Didn't think so. Let me enlighten you, then!"
He immediately backed away when she walked towards him again, but this time she just braced herself against the armrests of his chair, ignoring the bloody marks she'd left behind. She bent down on his level and got as close as she could without their noses touching.
He could inhale the scent of her Moondew shampoo from this distance, but it felt dangerous, not familiar. Her furious stare made him feel like he was burning on a stake, so he decided to move his gaze to the carmine red carpet under his feet instead.
Her silent voice was even more menacing than her enraged shrieks.
"He would've been expelled and sent to rot in Azkaban for manslaughter. All because pretty boy wanted to boost his fragile ego by navigating a clueless person to a tunnel that leads straight into a werewolf's den."
The boy's grunt echoed through the common room walls when he jumped up from his armchair, took her by the collar of her fuzzy green sweater and backed her into a wall, deaf to the gasp she made when her shoulders hit the uneven stone.
"You know what?! If you care so much about your precious Snape's well-being, why don't you go join him and his Death Eater friends at the dining table for breakfast? You can talk about your mother's bakery over a cuppa and they'll welcome you with open arms!" he barked out, spitting blood and saliva all around him.
She didn't have time to process his statement, because as soon as the words left his mouth, her injured hand instinctively sprung up and firmly slapped his cheek, leaving a mark of bloody fingers behind. His face whipped to the side and he took a moment to breathe out before meeting her devastated face, realizing the weight of his insult.
Strident pain pulsed through her broken finger, but it was nothing compared to the feeling that was eating through her heart when his venomous words sank in. He stared at her with wide eyes, knowing that there was nothing he could do to take back the taunt he just stabbed her with.
She scoffed, a sarcastic smirk curling up the corners of her quivering lips.
"You make me sick, Black," she whispered and wrenched out of his now-limp grip. She forcefully pushed him aside with her shoulder, fat tears rolling down her cheeks. As she stomped off, he heard a strained mumble.
"Episkey."
He cringed at the poorly contained squeal she let out when her busted finger straightened itself back to its usual position with a nauseating crack.
”Mittens, I -“
He could do nothing but watch her body warp into a familiar ball of matted fur and disappear behind the bookshelf that hid one of the ways out of the castle.
She jerked at the loud swish that accompanied the sudden appearance of mountains of food.
Sweet and savoury, sour or bland, it was all there.
She fixed her dissociated stare at the broiled chicken drumsticks that were neatly arranged in a bowl of creamy corn and broccoli, dull pain pulsing in her stomach.

@wolfstarmicrofic March 16 – prompt 16: Episkey – word count 264
Episkey - Heals minor injuries
Sometimes Remus thought he had lost too much for just one lifetime. He would wake up with a crushing weight on his chest and usually run to the garden with a cup of tea to calm down. It was too much, too much loss. So many friends and family, all gone in the first war. Those twelve years of losing himself at the bottom of a bottle. All the others, some of whom he had even taught for a year, gone in the second war. So much loss, clinging to him like a poisonous vine.
A scream followed by a loud wail made him come back to himself and he turned around to see the little boy sprawled on the garden path, crying. He hurried to him, while Sirius sprinted from the cottage door.
“It’s alright, mon coeur, it’s alright,” Sirius said, as he picked the boy up. “You wanted to run to Dad but you fell?”
“Anwell hurt,” the boy whined, extending a tiny bruised hand towards Remus.
Remus sat down by his husband and their son, taking the tiny hand in his and having a look at it.
“It’s only a scratch, fy nghariad, Dad and Papa will make it better in no time,” he said, taking his wand from his pocket. “Episkey! See? It’s all gone now.”
Anwell stopped crying and finally smiled, his face red from the tears. Remus smiled back. Yes, so much loss. But that was the past. And the present looked bright enough. Bright as the smile on his son’s face and on the man he loved.

Hogwarts Legacy Accurate to Victorian Era Pt. 2
Thank you so so much for the lovely response to my first one! I'm so happy that you enjoyed it. This was just supposed to be a one-off, but here is part 2!
Read Pt. 1 !
Warning for brief mentions of: Dissection. Gore. Sex and lust. Antiquated ideas. Cannibalism. All the good stuff.
Simple Solution for an Injury
Complex injury? Amputate it!
No Anesthesia. No antibiotics.
Have fun going into shock from the pain.
Survived the surgery? Have fun with the post-surgery infection.
Ominis taking one glance at Sebastian's broken leg.
Ominis: "Lose the leg."
Sebastian: "Wait, no. Hold on, we can just use episkey-"
MC: *already raising an axe with a psychotic grin*
MC: "Sorry, Sebastian. Your lovely leg will be sorely missed!"
Cereal for Proper Gentlemen
Cereal is just becoming popularised, more so in America.
Most importantly, it's considered a proper thing to eat for gentlemen since, apparently, it has the effect of keeping your urges at bay.
Sebastian and Garreth always feel they need cereal to keep themselves in check. So they usually begin their day by eating two full bowls of cereal.
Ominis and Amit would eat cereal once in a while.
But strangely, when you sit next to them, you find them reaching for a box of cereal and burying their heads into the bowl, refusing to meet your eyes and their cheeks bright red.
We Party Like It's 1890
Victorians loved the macabre and the exoticism. The best parties were considered the dissection of Egyptian mummies.
Garreth Weasley, knows how to party.
And also happens to know a man who can get him an Egyptian mummy.
The whole school erupts into an excited buzz when they hear of a party being held by Weasley.
How he manages to afford an Egyptian mummy at such a great price, you ask?
If you ask Garreth, he'd say it's thanks to his winning charm.
If you ask Ominis, it's because he's being swindled with some "third-rate corpse dug somewhere from Whitechapel."
Having attended a few of those parties himself back home, Ominis apparently can tell the difference between a real mummy vs. a fabricated one.
----
Garreth Weasley rolls up his sleeves, and dramatically flourishes his wand to begin the demonstration.
But, contrary to his boasting, he is quite shit with anatomy and maintaining steady hands.
Amit Thakkar is driven mad to no end at these parties, though he always comes begrudgingly.
He chooses to come because Garreth will literally drag Amit to his party.
But also because Amit naively believes every time that he might be able to teach Garreth a thing or two about anatomy.
Garreth has not failed to disappoint Amit every time so far.
"Agh, Garreth! You've spliced the superior vena cava!"
"Patience now, Amit. A delicate artform such as this takes great skill and control of one's wand-"
Garreth's hand slips, proceeding to stab the heart with the tip of his wand.
"Ah. Shit... Well. That's that."
"No matter." As Garreth wipes his wand on a tablecloth. "Now who wants to try my newest butterbeer!?"
That is usually when the party comes to an abrupt end as everyone rushes to the door.
Cure for All: Egyptian Mummies
Victorians engaging in straight-up Cannibalism
Ground-up mummies from Egypt are sold as a cure for all.
Sebastian, unfortunately, hears this rumour.
The next day, he's selling it in the corridor as a "Miracle Powder: 100% High-Quality Egyptian Mummies - Straight from the Tomb of Pharaohs"
Anne is in on it.
The local population of Inferi have significantly dwindled ever since.
But soon enough, not even Inferi are enough for his demanding supply.
There have been recent headlines in the Daily Prophet of the alarming number of grave robberies. Wizards. Goblins. House-elves. No one is safe.
Ominis: "Really, Sebastian? Grave robbing?"
Sebastian: "It's called procuring the merchandise, Ominis. Clearly, something you don't understand as someone who hadn't had to work a day of his life."
Sebastian boasting about his knack for business.
One night, Sebastian shows up in front of you with two shovels on his shoulders.
MC: "Grave robbing?"
Sebastian: "Grave robbing."
MC: "Should we dig up Uncle Solomon?"
Sebastian, taking way too long to consider: "... Nah. Anne would kill me for it."
MC: "At least that would get us two bodies."
The Beginning of a Business Relation with Garreth
There was one time when Prof Weasley got suspicious of Garreth’s outlandish plans, leaving him unable to retrieve the entertainment for the party that he’d already planned.
"Come on, Sallow. My reputation is at stake."
"Word tells me you can fetch me a mummy, yes?"
Sebastian, being the savvy businessman that he is, strokes his chin.
"I can. But it will cost you."
The whole school will remember that horrendous night, when the mummy mysteriously came back to life, and began attacking the students, the whole room erupting into chaos.
"It's the Pharaoh's Curse!" Duncan Hobhouse wails. "I knew I should've never come!"
Ominis growls about Duncan always complaining, and being too much of a coward to do anything.
Ominis: "Perhaps we sacrifice Puffskein Dunkein to the mummy. We’d feign an accident off school grounds. Nobody needs to know."
"I have it all under control," Sebastian shouts to Garreth.
As he continues to blast Confringo non-stop at the inferi in mid-panic.
----
To support Sebastian's growing business, you are in charge of harvesting Inferi and bodies for Sebastian. But Garreth is in charge of the processing.
Ever since the fiasco at the party, Garreth forgave Sebastian and joined in to assist with the processing part.
Garreth says he’s forgiven Sebastian. But he now takes 55% of the cut.
These days, you can find the two in the Undercroft, testing out the newest solution.
The Mad Scientist and The Merchant of Death.
Round goggles. Rolled up sleeves.
A thick pungent smell of whatever solution Garreth came up to quicken the mummification process.
How lovely.
Ominis is not happy.
----
If MC is extremely progressive, they'd disapprove of mummy dissection parties and comment to Garreth about the colonial mindset behind parties like this.
For weeks, Garreth is depressed and remorseful.
From then on, the Egyptian Mummy is replaced with a fake from Sallows, Co.
Ugliness
Victorians believed that loveless marriage and sex led to their children being born ugly.
Sebastian loves taunting Leander Prewett along this line of thought.
"Hey Prewett, guess where I was last night?"
Leander rolls his eyes. "Let me guess. My mother's?"
"You're quick this morning, I see. Your mother told me she's never loved your father."
Leander grows bright red, glaring. "Don't you dare, Sallow."
Sebastian with a smirk: "Solved at least one mystery. The reason why you look like a leper."
Leander explodes, warranting Sebastian a number of hexes and detention for both of them.

in which james takes a sick day
“i can’t believe you chose today of all days to get sick, prongs.” sirius complained, laying sideways across his bed, with quite a bit of his legs dangling off.
“it’s not like i chose to be sick.” james gave a pointed stare at sirius before sitting up on his own bed, tucked neatly under the covers, bringing his elbow to his mouth as he coughed into it.
“james, why don’t you go to madam pomfrey’s?” your brow furrows. he certainly didn’t look good— pale, with dark circles under his eyes from a restless night of coughing.
“because she’ll keep me there forever. i can’t stay there, i’ve got quidditch practice tomorrow that she won’t let me attend and we have pranks to execute!” james whined, laying back down. “i just need you lot to steal some sort of coughing remedy, that’s all.”
“we had pranks to execute.” remus corrected.
“yeah, today was going to go in the history books!” sirius groaned. “and now we’re stuck!”
“can’t we just go?” peter looked around confusedly, sitting at the edge of james’ bed and fiddling with his new sneakoscope, which had been spinning all day, much to his disappointment. remus reckoned it broken, but peter was determined to fix it (not that he knew how).
“absolutely not!” sirius looked appalled at the idea. “we can’t just leave him behind, wormtail, why on earth would you suggest that?”
“yeah, c’mon, wormy,” james coughed. “it’s no fun without all of us.”
“maybe wormtail.” sirius sniggered. james laughed, nearly turning into a cough; peter chuckled awkwardly. remus rolled his eyes.
“ha ha.” you roll your eyes, exchanging glances with remus. “well, are we getting the remedy or not?”
“let’s just use episkey!” peter suggested, waving his wand haphazardly about.
“that only works for wounds that broke the skin.” remus shook his head. “we need a potion.”
“then there’s no need to steal from madam pomfrey.” you realized suddenly. “slughorn! he can make us one!”
“would he do that for us?” peter looked around. you grin, and look directly at sirius, who abruptly frowned, and then sat up.
“absolutely not.”
“it’s james’ best shot at getting better!” you protest.
“he’d do it if it were you asking.” remus agreed. “and then james would get better quickly.” sirius hesitated. this had gotten his attention. although he despised most anything that had anything to do with the fact that he was a black, he was loyal to a fault, and would do most anything for his mates.
“…i’m not going alone.” sirius looked around, eyes narrowing. sirius knew that remus knew just how to push his buttons, and he wasn’t happy about it. “you lot are coming with me.”
“emotional support?” you grin.
“call it what you like.” sirius waved his hand dismissively. “but you’re all coming.”
“and leave me alone?” james protested. “i think not!”
“fine. wormtail, stay with prongs, you can listen to all his whining—“
“hey!”
“—and we’ll get that damned potion.” sirius stood up.
“okay.” peter agreed, happy for any excuse to hang out with james.
“come on, then.” sirius sighed, exiting the room, leaving you and remus to follow.
“i hate professor slughorn,” sirius griped as the three of you walked. “he’s always going on about how i’m of the prestigious house of black and how i look just like my mother— does he even realizing how insulting that is? to look like my mother?”
“with that expression, you certainly do.” remus remarked. one of his eyebrows quirked up, and his lips nearly formed a smirk.
“rude, moony. rude.” sirius deadpanned.
regardless, you and the two boys did indeed get the potion from professor slughorn, and you did indeed heal james, thus teaching the five of you a valuable lesson.
that was a lie. no lessons are learned with the marauders. in fact, a few days later, peter came down with that same cough.
“what do you mean, you’re sick?” james demanded. “it’s prank day!”
“professor mcgonagall told me to go to madam pomfrey’s.” peter said weakly, cheeks flushed as he lay in bed, quite miserable, with yourself and the others huddled around him.
“absolutely not! the only time we go to that old bat’s office is after a full moon for moony!” james declared. “anything else is ridiculous! she’ll keep us there forever until no one escapes!”
“prongs, that is not true in the slightest.”
“not now, moony, we have a potion to nick.”

When I see you again (Fred Weasley x Reader)
Tumblr media
PART 1. 2.
female!reader, Gryffindor!reader
Summary: It takes place during the Second Wizarding War, months after Bill and Fleur's wedding. Reader is on the run after her family has been caught by the Snatchers. Loosely following cannon.
Pairing: Fred Weasley x reader (mentioned)
Characters: Dean Thomas, Fred Weasley (mentioned),George Weasley (mentioned), Ted Tonks (mentioned)
Warnings: war, mentions of death, angst, english is not my first language so there might be grammatical mistakes, capital letters, etc.
It was the break of dawn. You did not dare to travel during the day in case any Snatchers might be creeping around. However, travelling at night seemed even more terrifying considering that’s when dementors, inferi and other dark creatures were most active. You were on your own for months, travelling from place to place, never staying anywhere more than just a few days. You did not think it was wise to come back to the Godric’s Hollow, and all the safe houses provided by the Order seemed to be heavily protected by charms and spells, so you could not find any of them. You spent most of your time travelling through the countryside. Camping in the woods or hiding in abandoned muggle houses. The latter was a lot riskier since the streets were often infested with dementors. Muggles didn’t know what was going on since they couldn’t see them, but the terror they felt by their presence was enough to chase most of them away from their homes.
You were intentionally avoiding all magical places you could think of. You knew there was no place you could go to be completely safe, but there was no way you would not run into a Death Eater in the middle of the Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade. You didn’t even dare to try to go back to the Burrow. To be honest, you feared what you might find there if you did.
Your hiding tactic was going quite well, in fact, you had gotten quite skilled at protective spells and charms and were even getting better at transfiguring objects into something edible. However, being cut off from the rest of the wizarding world had its downgrades. There was no way for you to hear any news of your friends and family. You occasionally turned on this muggle invention called television, but since muggles weren’t really aware of what was actually going on, they weren’t broadcasting much useful information. A part of you was glad, at least you heard no familiar names amongst the ones of missing muggles. But sitting there, completely cut off from everything and everyone, was getting more and more exhausting, and quite frankly, you believed it would be a lot less terrifying to actually get caught by a Snatcher.
After careful consideration, you decided to go back to your family’s vacation home. The last time you were there, the village was crawling with trolls and acromantulas, but that was months ago! Surely, it must have been cleared out by now! And if not… well you would cross that bridge when you get to it.
So, at the break of dawn, you gathered all of your most valuable things, your wand, a cloak and a couple of tin cans you found in one of the houses you were hiding in, and disapparated.
Two seconds later you felt yourself landing face down onto something sharp and cold. A painful groan escaped your lips as you felt your nose had just been hit by something that felt like a brick. You then realised you didn’t land face down, but instead, bumped right into a tall stone wall you assumed used to be a part of someone’s home. You lifted your wand and quietly whispered:
“Episkey!”
The pain stopped almost instantly only to be replaced by a shocking realisation the moment you turned around to see where you were.
You were exactly in the place you wanted to be, only the place looked nothing like it was supposed to. You were thankful for the absence of trolls and acromantulas, but the reason for their absence was that there was absolutely nothing around that they could possibly prey upon. There were no people, no roads, houses or plants… it was a wasteland. As you turned around trying to find any shape of something that used to be your old vacation home, a terrifying thought had crossed your mind. A thought you were trying so hard to push away for months.
Where… are they?
Tears began to fill your eyes and before you could stop you let out a desperate, heart aching sob. It felt like a punch to the gut. Your legs were no longer listening to you, and you collapsed to the ground.
“Please… please…! Where are they? Someone… anyone…?” you sobbed.
A part of you hoped that someone or something would show up and help you. A Patronus, a house elf, a bird…  at this point you would even greet a troll with open arms
But no one was coming to save you. There you were, all by yourself, in the middle of the rubble that used to be your family’s backyard. During the months of running and hiding you had not once felt as alone and hopeless as you did in that moment. You crumbled completely, thinking of all the people that meant anything to you. You parents, younger cousins still being forced to attend Hogwarts, friends you last saw during Bill and Fleur Weasley’s wedding. Oh, what you would give for just one familiar face showing up, picking you up the ground and embracing you, telling you everything was going to be okay. Telling you all of them were alive and well. That your parents escaped the Snatchers’ grip and were somewhere in a safe location. That your cousins were able to escape this now dreadful place that used to bring you so much joy during your school years. That your friends were somewhere out there, searching for you and wishing you were with them. But no one was coming, and by the looks of it, no one was going to.
You considered just staying there, in the middle of a wasteland. Crying yourself to sleep and hoping to die before you must wake to this dreadful reality.
However, after the tears have dried out, you managed to pluck up all the remaining strength and bravery that was left in your malnourished, sleep deprived body, and somehow, stand back up on your trembling feet. You took a deep breath and forced yourself to take a step forward. Then another one. By the third one you were on the verge of collapsing yet again, but then, something unexplainable happened. You blinked in confusion.
You realised you no longer knew where you were. You knew you were travelling somewhere, that there was a reason for you to be standing here, in the middle of nowhere, but you couldn’t for the life of you remember what it was. You looked around, hoping to gain some clarity, but it was useless. It was as if someone had just gone inside your head and altered your memories. A surge of panic went through your body. You turned back around and returned to the place you were standing two seconds ago. And then you remembered. You remembered everything you knew a moment ago. This was your vacation home. You came here to find someone. Anyone. How could you possibly forget that?
You took two steps forward again, and your mind went blank. Once again, you blinked in confusion and frustration.
What is happening?
You took two steps back again and remembered.
Two steps forward, forgot.
Two steps backward, remembered.
Through the cloud of bewildering uncertainty caused by this development, another thought hit you like a train wreck. A thought that caused you to feel a spark of something you hadn’t felt in a really long time. A spark of something you never thought you’d feel again. Hope.
A shocked giggle escaped your lips.
It was a spell!
A cloaking spell! Someone was hiding right there in front of you, in your own house! That’s why you couldn’t remember anything when you walked forward. Someone was there, perhaps watching you at this very moment. Someone who didn’t want to be found. Which could only mean…
“Mum?”, you called out.
“Dad?”
No one answered.
“Please, if anyone’s there, it’s me, Y/N! Your cloaking spell is very strong, I can’t see anything!”
You waited patiently for someone to answer, but no one did. You thought to yourself that perhaps it wasn’t such a great idea to be standing here screaming. What if it wasn’t one of your own? What if it was a trap? But you pushed those thoughts away. You were way too tired and desperate to be questioning this miracle that has presented itself.
So what if it was a trap? Nothing can be worse than this uncertainty! You sat down in the rubble and stared at the seemingly blank space in front of you, your eyes scanning every detail of it in hopes of seeing someone appear.
“Maybe they didn’t hear me?”, you thought to yourself.
But before you could do or say anything else, a muffled, but somehow familiar voice yells out something in your direction. You tried to stand up, but before you could do that, the same voice exclaimed,
“Petrificus Totalus!”
Your entire body stiffened up. You couldn’t move. Your eyes widened in terror as you heard footsteps approaching. Then, a figure appeared in front of you. You could see his face clearly.
It was the last person you expected to see there, and yet, despite the fact he had just petrified you, you were never so happy to see anyone in your entire life.
It was Dean Thomas.
...
Dean was just being careful; you couldn’t blame him for that. However, lying there petrified, without the ability to speak, was getting really frustrating. You thanked your lucky stars that it was a classmate and not a Death Eater standing in front of you, because now that you’ve thought of it, that could’ve easily been the case. You should’ve been more careful.
Dean circled around you like a vulture, his wand still up and pointed at you. He examined your face, the clothes you were wearing and your wand. He took the little bag you were carrying and emptied it. When he realised there was nothing in it except two portions of canned beans, he finally sighed in relief and whispered,
“Finite Incantatem!”
Your body relaxed.
“Dean!”
Your mouth was dry and the words that came out of it sounded like a squeak, but you did not let that bother you. Not in this moment.
“Dean, it’s so good to see you…”
“Not so fast!”, he whispered and pointed his wand back at you, “First tell me who you are!”
“You don’t know who I am?”, you asked in confusion.
That was highly unlikely. Dean and you weren’t exactly the closest of friends, but you did know each other. You spent five years in the same common room, often chatting about muggle movies and music, not the mention all the times you spent helping him and Seamus Finnigan with their homework. Two years ago, you even attended the same secret club at Hogwarts called Dumbledore’s Army.
“No, I know who you are”, he said heavily, “I just want to see if you know it”.
You blinked.
He wants to be sure it’s not a trick.
“Oh… okay…”, you started, “My name is Y/N Y/LN. I was in the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts, two years above you. I… I used to watch you argue with Oliver Wood about soccer! Yes, you were saying it’s a more exciting sport than Quidditch… until he accidentally knocked over a candle and almost burnt down the entire Gryffindor tower”.
The memory of that made you chuckle. It felt like centuries ago! Even the corners of Dean’s lips flickered like he was holding back a smile.
“Yeah… do you remember what happened next?”, he asked, still not entirely convinced.
“Yes… McGonagall rushed in and put out the fire… nobody wanted to tell her who did it and Fred and George blamed it on Peeves…”.
You cleared your throat. The mention of Fred and George Weasley felt like a stab in the heart. You rubbed your eyes before tears could come out, trying to make it seem like a nonchalant action, but Dean wasn’t fooled. However, this subtle burst of emotion at the mention of your two best friends seemed to convince him it was really you, and he finally lowered his wand.
He put his hand on your shoulder, and you threw yourself at him, pulling him into a hug. He was a bit startled by this action, but in the next moment he wrapped his arms around you and returned the embrace.
“Dean… what are you doing here?”, you asked after finally letting him go.
“I’m in hiding, of course”, he said.
“Yes… but what are you doing here?”, you pointed at the wasteland around you.
“Oh, right…”, he smiled apologetically and whispered, “The Unseen Village 32”.
For a moment you were standing there in confusion. Then, two very long seconds later, a large yellow building appeared right in front of you. Before you could stop yourself, you cried out in amazement. It was your family house, a bit rugged and damaged, but it was definitely still standing!
You were lost for words. Dean took you by the hand and led you through the front door. The inside of the house was almost completely preserved.
“It’s a Fidelius charm”, he explained, “I’m the secret keeper of this house, nobody can find it unless I tell them the location”.
“Fidelius?”, you raised your eyebrows, “Isn’t that like, really advanced magic?”
“Well, yes…”, he scratched the back of his head, looking almost embarrassed, “But I had some time to practice it. Ted Tonks taught me how to do it before he… you know”, a flicker of pain appeared in his eyes.
“Ted… Tonks? Nymphadora Tonks’ father?”.
You knew Nymphadora Tonks was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Her family home was one of the safe houses the Order was using during the night Harry Potter was moved from Little Whinging.
Your home in the Godric’s Hollow was one of the safe locations as well. In fact, it was the house in which Arthur and Fred Weasley showed up. You could see their faces as clear as day. Arthur was bewildered, shaking, and rushing through your house, trying to get to the Potrkey as soon as possible. Fred was on the verge of tears.
“What happened? What’s wrong?”, you kept asking.
The words that followed your question still haunted you to this very day,
“Someone’s been hit. We think it’s George”.
Dean’s voice pulled you back to the current moment.
“Anyway, this was the only house that was still standing after the acromantulas have cleared up… or so it seemed. You never know, there might be others out here, using protective spells and what not…”
“Right…”, you shook your head, trying to focus on his words, “Well, it’s a very powerful spell. Thank Merlin you came out, I would’ve driven myself insane trying to figure out why my mind is suddenly going blank”.
“Sorry for petrifying you, I had to be sure it wasn’t a trick”.
You nodded,
“I would’ve been offended if you hadn’t”, you said teasingly.
Dean chuckled.
“Well, I knew you were out there, they mentioned you the other day in the PotterWatch”.
You shook your head in confusion.
“In the what?”
Dean seemed just as confused as you.
“In the… PotterWatch. You have been listening to PotterWatch, right?”
“Dean, I have no idea what you’re talking about”, you said sincerely, “You’re the first person I’ve talked to since I ran away”.
“What… you’ve been on your own this entire time?”
“Yes”
“Well how did you… how did you make it?”, he was baffled.
You shrugged.
“Honestly… I don’t know. I’ve been avoiding crowded spaces and scavenging for food… I’ve gotten pretty good at protective charms as well”.
Dean looked almost impressed. You blushed.
“Blimey! That’s… I wouldn’t have lasted three days on my own”, he said.
“Aren’t you on your own now?”, you asked.
He smiled sadly.
“I was with Ted until recently…  Oh!”, he jumped up, startling you, “That reminds me!”
He looked around the room and rushed towards something that was sitting at the small coffee table next to the dusty red sofa on your right. It looked like a small, dirty box. He took the box in his hands and started tapping on it with his wand while mumbling something.
“Oh, I’m sure it was… Padfoot? No… Fawkes! No, hang on…”
After a few minutes of tapping and mumbling, he yelled out in excitement,
“Ah, there it is!”
You heard a couple of muffled voices coming from the box.
It’s a radio, you realised.
The voices were getting louder and clearer, until finally, you recognised who they belonged to.
“…to introduce our new correspondent, "Rodent"!
“I'm not being Rodent! I told you, I want to be "Rapier"!”
“Fred!”, you cried out and grabbed the radio from Dean’s hand.
You couldn’t believe it. It was Fred. And George! They were alive! They were fine! Oh, it felt so good to hear their voices! You felt a warm, excited feeling spreading through you, as if your heart finally started beating properly again.
“Oh alright, "Rapier"! Could you tell our listeners the various stories you've heard about the Chief Death Eater?”
“Yes I can. As our listeners will know, unless they've taken refuge at the bottom of a garden pond…”
This made you chuckle loudly, as tears were filling your eyes yet again. However, this time you didn’t try to stop them, and instead, you just let them silently slide down your cheeks.
“…You-Know-Who's strategy of remaining in the shadows is creating a nice climate of panic! Mind you, if all alleged sightings of him are genuine, there must be nineteen You-Know-Whos running around!”
You didn’t even pay attention to the words he was saying. They weren’t important. Who cares about You-Know-Who? Who cares about Death Eaters? Nothing was as important as the fact that you could hear Fred Weasley’s cheerful voice coming from this small, dusty box. You savoured every sound it made, clenching it firmly in your grip, like you were afraid the voice would disappear if you didn’t.
After a few minutes the broadcast had ended. You raised your eyes to meet Dean’s, almost as if you were silently begging him to bring the voice back. Dean was leaning on the doorway, clearly a bit uncomfortable, but wanting to let you have your moment with the radio. You felt a bit embarrassed. Finally, he cleared his throat and spoke gently,
“This was from a few weeks ago… I actually wanted to show you another one…”
He carefully took the radio from your hands and started tapping on it again, mumbling words that you realised were passwords to access the radio line.
“Ah, yes… this one”, he handed you the radio again.
You sat down at the red sofa and placed the little box near your right ear with the nervous excitement.
“Well, dear listeners, we have a very special announcement today that might lift up your spirits”, you heard George’s voice say.
“It has certainly lifted ours!”, Fred continued.
“We are very happy to inform you that a group of our favourite “Undesirables” and muggleborns has just been rescued from the Ministry and is currently transferred to a safe location”.
“The freed are alive and well and mostly unharmed”.
“Mostly unharmed? What does that mean, mostly unharmed, Rodent?”.
“Well, “Tentacula” …”
“Tentacula!?”
“It means that all off them have managed to keep all of the limbs they had before they were captured!”
“So, if someone was missing a leg before…?
“They didn’t grow it back, but they did most likely keep the other one!”
“What are the names of the freed, Rodent?”
“I told you, it’s “Rapier”!”
“Sorry, Rapier!”
“Well…”
You were clinging onto the radio for dear life while listening to the names Fred was listing. Your heart was racing. You heard lots of familiar names, some of them were your friends, your acquaintances, people you’ve only met once, people you studied with at the library at Hogwarts…
“And of course, last but not least…”
You clenched your jaw in anticipation. When Fred said the names of your parents, a quiet sob escaped your lips.
They are fine! They are fine! They are alive and they are safe! Everything is alright!
Fred’s voice suddenly deepened in uncharacteristic seriousness.
“However, even though Mrs. and Mr. Y/LN are safe and sound, their daughter Y/N is still presumed to be missing”.
“What would you say to Y/N if you knew she was listening?”, George’s voice asked.
“I’d tell her that her family is alive and well and desperate for news of her whereabouts. As are quite frankly, all of us here at the PotterWatch”.
“Well, there you have it, dear listeners! On that note we are ending this very special episode of PotterWatch!”
“Protect yourselves”.
“And each other!”
“And as always…”
“Support Harry Potter!”
You were still holding onto the radio a few minutes after the episode ended. Dean didn’t say anything, and you were grateful for that. You were still savouring the words you just heard. Fred and George’s voices. The names of your friends that were confirmed to be freed from the Ministry. The names of your family. You didn’t even realise you were shaking until Dean gently put his hand on your shoulder. You looked up at him in a surprise, as if you had completely forgotten that he was still there. He smiled at you softly as you put your hand onto his and squeezed it. There was only one thought on your mind. You looked straight into Dean’s eyes in a sudden burst of determination and said, in a quiet but clear voice,
“Dean… We have to find them”.
