A Dash of Nutmeg
I'm in the middle of preparing my next meta, and while mulling over a problem a had a wtf! moment. More like a "lead balloon" moment, really, where you realize you're looking at one of those glaring anachronisms that the Good Omens AU has plenty of but never makes a big deal of.
Nutmeg. And lemongrass. You know, they get mentioned together in this little passage in the book:
"Come off it. Your lot get ineffable mercy," said Crowley sourly. "Yes? Did you ever visit Gomorrah?" "Sure," said the demon. "There was this great little tavern where you could get these terrific fermented date-palm cocktails with nutmeg and crushed lemongrass-" "I meant afterwards." "Oh."
Nutmeg then turns up in the S2 as part of Aziraphale's magic sleight of hand performance.
Tumblr media
The reason it jumped out to me is that nutmeg has played a significant role in the history of the world - it was the center of deal between two countries that you could say became a "sliding door" moment about 500 years ago. And because of that, I knew its origin put it at unlikely odds of being in the right place at the right time in the GO story (but when has that ever stopped anything getting in the way of the story!)
Although we don't know if Sodom and Gomorrah were actually real cities, we know they are supposed to predate the Roman Empire, and that is what matters here. And the matter I'm trying to get to is that the natural origins of nutmeg are from small cluster of islands in the Indonesian archipelago that were a closely guarded secret for centuries. The first nutmeg reached Rome in the first century AD, long after Sodom and Gomorrah would have been razed to oblivion by Sandalphon's smiting efforts. And there was never very much of it. It was always in short supply, and considered precious.
Oh, and its a well known hallucinogenic, if you consume too much of it. Even just a generous amount sprinkled on your Christmas pud can give you a lovely relaxed, floaty feeling...mmmm, or was Aunty Jill a bit heavy-handed with the brandy, I'm not sure...
Lemongrass is also of south-east Asian origin. It likes a hot, damp environment to grow well. I'm not sure that's the kind of place Sodom or Gomorrah was!
So for Crowley to describe a cocktail, of all things, with two exotic, rare ingredients from thousands of miles away in a "time" when the trade routes hadn't quite spread that far...
ugh. My head hurts just thinking about this one.
Did I mention I found a thing that many cultures believed nutmeg could protect you against evil? Right, right...whatever. Go for it, Crowley. You've obviously been into the mind-altering chemicals for millennia anyway.

You quick question, what's your opinion on my favourite AU's? And how would you rank them?
Here's what they are (not in favourite order):
Dance Studio AU (Think of them being partnered up on purpose for either the pinning or the enemies to lovers!!!)
Famous Actor AU (Think of the fake/secret dating!! I'm more of a sucker for fake dating where they hate each other's guts so...)
Bed and Breakfast/Diner AU (This is just in my head where all my favourite characters from this one fandom run this place together!)
Historical AU (THE DRESSES AND GOWNS!!! THE DRAMATIC CASTLESSS!!)
Time Loop AU Time Loop AU Time Loop AU Time Loop AU Time—
Star Tears AU and/or Hanahaki AU (I prefer when they DON'T have a happy ending but to each their own)
Musical/Theatre AU (Imagine them practicing the kiss scenesss)
Wrong Number AU ("Uhhh so this isn't Character A?" "Dude, how forgetful are you?")
YOUTUBER AU!!!! (Reaction Channel x Murder Mystery Channel, anyone)
Meeting again years later (THE POSSIBILITIES!!!)
These aren't ALL of my favs, but yeah, tell me what you think!! (No pressure though, this is just for sillies)
Oh this is such a good question! I’ve honestly not read a ton of other profession au’s; I think certain fandoms have favorite AU’s that are done a lot and the ones I frequent are mostly Time Travel
1. Time Loop/Time Travel is my absolute bread and butter- dudes think about the Roman Empire weekly, I think about time travel on a near daily basis 💕
2. Years later- usually a good mix of angst and fluff, gimmie old lovers!
3. Musical theatre is very good- I’ve read a lot of good omens fics about theater, more so in attendance then performance, but *chefs kiss*
4. YouTuber sounds so fun!! I’ve not really read any of these but it sounds liked I’d enjoy them a lot!
5. I’ve only read like one Historical au but it was so good!!! Vintage vampire hunters. I really don’t know what more you want. I might have to see if I can find the link to share
6. Hanahaki but like. Taken in weird interpretations with lot of sci-fi bs science applied to it; I’ve read one or two really good ones; particularly taken in a horror aspect and with the source material’s world building applied to it- 👌✨
7. Idk what a bread and breakfast/diner au would entail but it sounds really cool!
8. Wrong Number: not read any of these that have ever gone anywhere so I don’t really have any opinions on it
9. Famous people. All the drama stresses me lol; I only like these if they sorta knew each other before they got famous (like the stranger things Steve/eddie fics) I’m also not a huge romantic fan as a whole and I think this trope is most often done with proper published romantic novels

I know prompts are sorta on break, but I’m curious if you’ve gotten any new prompts? I like appetizers of prompt ideas
oh yeah totally!! I love talking about the prompt ideas too. It gets the creative juices flowing
um let's see, I think the last one from the last post was the royal au? which means
vampire au -- very fun. very spooky. very gay. I'm could see this au going in a couple different ways. some of thing are more on the cute like... the boys dress up as vampires for halloween and trick or treat (which... may not be a thing in italy actually). OR i can see an slow burn, pining au where Luca lives with a vampire coven outside of Portorosso and has since the 1300/1400 hundreds, and Alberto lives alone and has for a long time (if we want to drive up the angst, Alberto could have been turned during the fall of the Roman empire, and he's just sort of been alone since). and then Luca and Alberto meet briefly, and keep meeting, and it's a slow burn over hundreds of years. (very Good Omens but vampire vibes if you know that show/ book)
alberto asks luca to prom in a goofy grand romantic way-- a promposal fic! I wrote a proposal fic, so I feel like this could have a similar vibe, except with a lot more anxiousness and uncertainty b/c maybe they're not dating yet. and the promposal is like... both asking luca to the dance and a sort of soft ask if he wants to date. so he goes all out and its cheesey and romantic and luca totally melts from how much he loves it. bonus idea-- giulia sends alberto the information for the genova school prom, and tells him that he should ask luca to it. so like, it's not even his prom lol
luca once broke a bone while playing around with alberto. after he gets a cast, alberto loves to draw on it and take care of luca-- I feel like this one has a sickfic or a hurt/comfort kind of energy, which I love. My most popular fic on ao3 is a sickfic. So I love this idea of like... alberto dealing with a lot of guilt for being the one who hurt luca (he isn't at fault at all), and that manifests in him really taking good care of luca. and since most of the time, luca is just sort of stuck inside recovering, Alberto hangs out with him. and then he starts drawing while Luca takes naps. And when luca sees his drawings, he asks Alberto to draw on his cast. So alberto starts filling in things and places that he thinks luca would like
massimo takes Alberto on vacations to beautiful Italian countrysides and they bond over animals-- we already talked about this one, but just imagining Alberto's excitement and wonder at seeing a cow fills me with joy
snow-- for which there are two prompts: 1. massimo gets worried about Alberto freezing during the winter bc he's not used to the snow. and 2. the angst route of, how did Alberto deal with the winter alone on his island? -- I would want to research if it generally snows in the Italian Riveria. Since it's right on the water, I'm not sure. I know it snows in the mountains, so the first prompt could totally be places there. and for the second prompt I could see like a 5+1 format. Where the 5 scenes are like updates from the winter with a two week time skip between each one. and he see alberto kind of struggling more and more as the winter drags on. and then the +1 is the first signs of spring and the hope that comes with it.
And then the last two are both for a thumbelina au/ specifically for the sun song-- I have not watched the movie yet (I think I will tomorrow), but this sounds very fun, and apparently the sun song is very sad. I'm prepared to get wrecked by it lol
And with that we're all caught up! :)

au in which percy manages to keep the mark of achilles, and the aftermath
——
Her writing is divine. The words flow together, the pacing is set to a tempo that keeps you captivated, and the writing is enrapturing and simple at the same time. She explores perspectives and scenarios I’ve never seen used before, and does so marvellously as well. Wonderfully brilliant.

Hello! What kind of au or situations do you think the obikin fandom lack of?
Hi!!! Thanks for sending this love!🤍🤍🤍😊😊😊
Oh gosh okay like personally I think fandom stays sleeping on some pretty good concepts/situations/aus!
Like for example Obi-Wan and Anakin falling together, I don’t think there’s many fics (if I remember orrecrly I think Broken by lilyconrad on ao3 has that and it’s so good (although pls do read the tags) ) that have both of them falling to the darkside together. (lowkey it’s an au I’m working on) but like think of the potential!!!!! Two of the most powerful Jedi just falling to her that edge together, because of each other??????? #SHooK
Another one: forehead kisses!!!! FOREHEAD TOUCHING!!!! it’s a crime the lack of forehead kisses between them!!!! The gentleness!!!! The tenderness!!!!! THE ROMANCE!!!! @ destiny @tarvek-sturmvoraus when are you gonna write the fic????? WHERES THE FIC DESTINY
Also pls consider zombie aus!!!! Zombie apocalypse aus!!!!
Exorcist/demon aus!!!!! YALL THINK ABOUT IT!!!!! oh my GOd?????? A good omens au?????? Pls fandom think of the potential I’m quaking!!!
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF ANAKIN FEELING THE SAFEST WITH OBI WAN?????

BOUNTY HUNTER/REBELLION LEADER ANAKIN!!!!!!!!! YALL PLS!!!!!!
But Obikin having separation anxiety bc of the war and worried they won’t be able to look after eachother????
REINCARNATION AUS REINCARNATION AUS!!!!!!!
A DOCTOR WHO AU WHERE ONE OF THE IS THE DOCTOR AND THE OTHER IS THE COMPANION!!!
Have y’all considered a gladiator/Roman empire au??????
What about a While You Were Sleeping au??? A Pretty Woman AU????? A Notting Hill au?????? WHEN HARRY MET SALLY AU??????
What about a 90s au??????? A 70s au???????? 80s au??????? CONSIDER 70s FBI AGENT OBI WAN AND CULT MEMBER ANAKIN!!!
Bed sharing!!! Y’all I get so fragile @ the thot of them sharing a bed together?????? Them not being able to sleep well without the other????? ANAKIN CRAWLING INTO BED WITH OBI-WAN BC HE FEELS SAFE AND HE DOESNT HAVE NIGHTMARES!!!! YALL PLS THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ME OH MY GOD
*heavy breathing* and yell @ destiny about this at least like once a day bc I have thots about it: OBI WAN CALLING ANAKIN BABY!!! OBI WAN CALLING HIM ALL THE PET NAMES TBH

Good Omens  Amazon Q&R, 28 mai 2020 partie 4

Azira Fell and the Apocalypse Scroll (T)
SUMMARY: The hunt is on for a mysterious and deadly scroll with the power to topple the world into chaos. Will Dr. Azira Fell, professor of Egyptology, find it in time to prevent the impending apocalypse? Or will an evil organization bent on destroying civilization find it first? To have even a chance at saving the world, he'll need to rely on the wily Anthony J. Crowley, professional guide and adventurer. But can Azira trust the inscrutable explorer, or will he lose his heart along with his life?
Or: A Good Omens Indiana Jones AU, because why not?
Ashmolean Museum, Oxford - 1935
Doctor Azira Fell hummed a few bars of Davies’ Op. 51 as he selected a couple of works from the Ashmolean library’s collection. Sunlight streaming through the clerestory window above ignited the gold-embossed lettering on the cover of a book chronicling the Ptolemaic dynasty near the end of the Hellenistic period. To Azira, who practiced knowledge the way others practiced religion, the glow seemed an omen of the treasure within.
Descending the step stool, he carried the volumes to a nearby table. He laid them as softly as possible on the polished oak and tugged the lamp chain. Then he sat in the high-backed chair, wiggling ever so slightly with the anticipation of the chase.
The passages for which he was searching would likely be buried in the usual drivel of martial accounts, rankings, and supply inventories. The Romans really were such tiresome windbags about conquest. Very few saw the forest through the trees with all their facts and figures and mind-numbing reports. Thus, it was up to Egyptologists like Dr. Azira Fell, associate faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford, thank you very much, to find the occasional tree that hinted at the actual forest.
Azira took out his small, leather-bound journal, opened it to where the stub of a pencil was wedged into its pages, and began to record the call numbers of the volumes he’d selected. With any luck, he’d have a few hours uninterrupted by students to collect a handful of tidbits meriting further investigation.
“Dr. Fell!”
Azira’s shoulders slumped ever so slightly. So much for uninterrupted hours. He hadn’t even made it five minutes.
“Dr. Fell, you have to see this.”
Anathema Device, Azira’s research assistant and the first American woman to study Oriental Studies at Oxford, popped out from behind a set of nearby stacks, breathless with excitement.
“There you are,” she said. “I knew you’d be prowling around the 932s. Look at this.”
She hurried forward, holding a hardcover book open toward him. He recognized it at once as her mother’s account of her expedition to Nubia at the turn of the century, before Anathema was born. Her mother’s obsession with Egyptology inspired Anathema’s own passion for the profession.
“What is it, dear?” he said, as he took the book from her hands.
“I’ve read this entire thing cover to cover so many times, but I never noticed this before,” she said, her face alight like it always was when she made a new conceptual connection or discovery in her research.
Azira looked at the place on the page to which she was pointing, but didn’t immediately see the source of her excitement.
“I don’t understand,” he said apologetically.
She took the book back and read aloud. “In late 34 BC, authorities on behalf of Emperor Octavian claimed that Mark Antony had stolen a sacred scroll from the Library of Pergamum and gifted it to Cleopatra of Egypt as recompense for the burning of the Alexandrian scroll collection during Caesar’s Civil War.”
“Yes, but that was a false account to discredit Antony. Your mother knew that. We all know that.”
“That’s not the interesting part,” Anathema said, grinning wider. “It says a sacred scroll as in one—not many. Scholars generally accept that the rumor stated Antony gave Cleopatra something like 20,000 Pergamum scrolls. Not one sacred one.”
Azira stood up. “You think she means the scroll? The scroll about th-the—Macedonian, er—”
“The Macedonian spice route,” she finished for him with a significant look. “Yes. I think she could have meant that. Hiding an indicator in plain sight is just like her.”
He took the book from her again and traced the spidery writing with excitement. Anathema’s mother was considered the preeminent authority on all things occult during the Ptolemaic Dynasty. That’s how Anathema had come to learn of the sacred scroll in the first place, through bedtime stories her mother had told her. Azira had learned of the scroll through other means, naturally, but when each had discovered the other knew of it, they instantly formed a bond that, over the last two years, had led to a close and trusted friendship.
“There’s more,” Anathema said, eyes dancing. “I looked up sacred scroll in her index, and the page it has listed is a separate page entirely, with no mention of a sacred scroll at all.”
“Which page?”
Anathema flipped the pages while Azira held the book for her. She stopped a third of the way further forward in the book, and pointed at a sketch of statue.
“I’m betting it’s some kind of coded location. But I haven’t worked out if it’s the picture or the words or both.”
“Good lord, Anathema. Are you sure it isn’t just a misprint?”
Anathema arched a cool eyebrow at him. “My mother never made mistakes. Not when it came to her study of Egypt. Never once.”
And, of course, she was right. Azira suggesting that the book was flawed was ludicrous. He had found firsthand accounts with less historical accuracy than the meticulously researched analysis he was now holding.
“Agnes Nutter, you sly devil,” Azira said, scanning the page Anathema had indicated. “You realize this means that not only did she know where the scroll was, or at least what happened to it—“
“—she also knew it was too dange—er, valuable, I mean—historically speaking—to let fall into the wrong hands.”
Azira was too lost in thought to chastise her near slip, though heaven knew what spies lurked in the stacks, just waiting for a crumb of information to fall.
“So it does exist,” he muttered to himself. “It does exist, and its location is knowable. It has been found at least once, and if it could be found by her…”
“It can be found by people other than us. Which could be bad.”
Azira tapped his lips, turning the puzzle over in his mind as he gazed at the page. “But where to start? We can’t go haring off into the desert without a proper destination in mind, my dear. We simply can’t afford it.”
“We could ask the Egypt Exploration Fund for an investment.”
“An investment for what? We’d need to tell them what we were looking for—”
“—the Macedonian spice route—”
“—as well as actually produce something of value upon our return. We can’t excavate a ghost, Anathema. No one would subsidize that.”
“On the contrary, brother,” boomed a voice from near the staircase about ten feet away from Azira and Anathema. “We may be able to come to some arrangement.”
Gabriel, patriarch of Azira’s extended family and, regrettably, Azira’s half-brother, approached their table with a jackal’s smile.
“What kind of arrangement?” Azira said with trepidation. He didn’t trust Gabriel any farther than he could throw him, family or no.
“Well, it just so happens Mother has a keen interest in the Byzantium-antiquities trade gaining momentum in the Mediterranean region.”
“What do tourist trinkets have to do with my research on the, er, the evolution of the gastronomical trade in the early Roman Empire?”
“I think your interests overlap quite nicely with the Foundation’s objectives in this case.”
The Foundation was the philanthropic arm of the White Dove evangelical organization Azira’s extended family had founded generations ago. It used monetary inducements to attract vulnerable populations into the fold, often at the price of sacrificing their cultural identity and heritage. That’s what had pushed Azira toward Egyptology and the study of antiquities in the first place. He wanted to protect the cultures and histories and identities of the people that White Dove’s Foundation tended to erase.
“What are the Foundation’s objectives, if I may?”
“Profit, of course. Profit that can then be turned to…charitable causes.”
“And by charitable, you mean missionary, I presume?”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing. Don’t forget that a sizable donation from the Foundation helps maintain this academic institution you love so much.”
“You still haven’t said what it is you want me to do,” Azira reminded Gabriel as Anathema slowly closed her mother’s journal and eased backward to be half-hidden behind Azira. Smart girl.
“We need you to travel to Cairo and make inroads with the traders in antiquities. You have an eye for these things. You can tell when something is worth procuring.”
“And what do you intend to do with any relics I obtain?”
“Why, resell them, of course, at a price more fair for the discerning market,” Gabriel said. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the mysteries of the pharaohs have caught the imagination of others in the empire, others who happen to have the benefit of deep pockets. And why not indulge their petty interests if it encourages them to give generously to God’s chosen causes? In exchange, you could mount your expedition for your gastronomical …. whatever ... in your spare time, with our resources and our blessing.”
Azira pursed his lips, on the verge of refusing Gabriel’s request, no matter the familial consequence to himself. He didn’t need Gabriel’s blessing to go about his life, nor did he want it. If he was ever given it, he’d have to immediately examine at length whether he wanted to continue doing whatever it was that Gabriel approved of. Azira wouldn’t go so far as to classify Gabriel as evil—he was Azira’s brother after all—but if not outright malicious, then he was something just this side of it.
The refusal hovered on Azira’s tongue, despite the small nudge of a pointy elbow in his back. Anathema clearly wanted him to take the deal. But it was hardly worth the burden of being under Gabriel’s thumb again. The last time Azira had been in a similar position, it had not gone well.
“I wouldn’t know the first thing about setting up an antiquities trade, Gabriel. How would I even find these so-called traders? How would I know I could trust them to deliver a bona fide artefact?”
“No worries on that score,” he said with false amiability. He took a black card out of his jacket pocket and handed it to Azira. It simply read “Crowley,” with no address or number, only a snake sigil curled along the left-hand side. “This man is affiliated with a trusted business associate of mine. He’ll see to you, help you set up when you arrive.”
“And how do I find him, then?” Azira asked, agitated. “There are no details on this card.”
“Oh, he’ll find you,” Gabriel assured him. “Your accounts have been furnished with whatever funds you might need for travel and expenses.”
Guide or not, funding or not, Azira simply didn’t have the wherewithal to do what Gabriel was asking.
“Gabriel, I don’t think—“
Gabriel took that moment to lean into Azira’s personal space, looming over the shorter man with a deceptively mild expression.
“Listen, Sunshine. I may have understated things when I posed this as a request. You will do as I say, or I will be forced to withdraw my protection from you and my financial support from this fine academy. And we wouldn’t want that, would we?”
Azira swallowed. Much as he’d regret the loss of the funds to the university, the larger threat lay in the euphemistic “withdraw my protection from you,” which meant far more sinister things than the words themselves invoked.
“I look forward to monitoring your progress,” Gabriel said with barely concealed contempt as he shook Azira’s hand and tipped his hat to Anathema. “And, as always, Godspeed.”
Then with a dramatic swirl of his argent coat, he took his leave.
Azira stared speechless after his brother. He hadn’t even agreed to go. But that was how White Dove, and its founding family, operated. No one was permitted to say no. Questions were forbidden unless strictly necessary. Only the most powerful family members were chosen to lead, and if those leaders dictated that something be done, it was done—end of conversation.
Azira had thought he’d escaped it by becoming an academic. For the last fifteen years, he’d managed to skirt most family engagements and nod politely at the ones he couldn’t avoid, until almost no one in the family even remembered he existed, but for the annual expense in the ledger with Oxford as the payee. Or so he’d thought. It appeared he was still very much on Gabriel’s mind, in the event that he might prove useful.
“Well, that was…something,” Anathema said, returning to her position by his side. “Is he always that pushy?”
“Most times, he’s worse,” Azira admitted glumly. Then he looked at the card in his hand, the snake sigil sending a thrill of foreboding down his spine. “Cairo.”
“Don’t look so downtrodden. This is exactly what we wanted,” Anathema said, laying a reassuring hand on his arm.
“It’s not the expedition that worries me,” Azira answered softly, tucking the card in his coat pocket. “It’s the demons we will owe when we return.”

hereditary enemies - 1
Tumblr media
pairing: angel!hyunjin x demon!reader - soulmate! au
warnings: strong language, innuendos, sexual references !!, mentions of blood and gore
note: this series is HEAVILY influenced by Good Omens bc aziraphale and crowley T__T theyre so baby
----
hwang hyunjin. one of the most famous names from upstairs. he was known for sticking to the rule book, for having a heart as soft as a plushie. he was the perfect and classic example of an angel. bright smiles that light up rooms and sparkly brown eyes that anyone could get lost into. he wouldn't hesitate to perform miracles and that's how everyone knew him.
on the other hand, there was you.
y/n. one of the most famous names from downstairs. you were known for being frivolous and childlike. you were one of the more playful demons. ever since the times of adam and eve you were one of the lighthearted ones. everyone was so serious and boring. so, you tried adding a splash of colour to hell!but just because you were lighthearted, doesn’t mean you also did wreck havoc everywhere you stepped.
caesar getting stabbed? influence by you. the fall of the roman empire? yup, you. the bubonic plague? you, with the help of crowley of course.
you really thought hell was the place for you. perfect for your pranks and being able to cause trouble. however, there was one thing you didn’t get. why the fuck did you guys have soulmate tattoos? you thought only humans and angels had them. demons aren’t supposed to love. well, that’ what you thought anyways. some of your friends had already met their soulmates. some you think are...questionable... some you thought didn’t need soulmate tattoos to know they would get together.
for example: aziraphale and crowley.
you only made an exception for them because they somehow became ever so close to your heart.
you tried to keep yours hidden away. it was below your collarbone, a ring with the words ‘you! you messed up my hard work!” etched underneath it. the first words your soulmate says to you.
“tagamuth! how ya doin’?” you asked the man who grumbled a hello back.
“hey, asami! lookin’ good! get that maggot infestation sorted?” you shot some finger guns at her, walking backwards, awaiting her response. she gave a quick nod back with a half smile.
you were about to turn around before bumping into someone. you swivelled on your heel before beaming a pearly white smile: “beelzebub babe! haven’t seen you in ages!”
they gave you a mocking smile. “get back to work y/n. whether that be down here or on earth.”
you popped your bottom lip out. “aw c’mon babe. i’m sure satan won’t mind if i took a lil break huh?” you looked around for a minute before leaning in towards beelzebub. “i know you’re satans right hand but is the reason you’re so uptight is that you haven’t found your soulmate yet?”
that caused some heads to turn. how bold of you.
“back to work!” they roared. this kinda made everyone piss their pants but you knew better, you were used to it. you gave the entity a pat on the shoulder before skipping off.
“alert me when you find em babe!” you teased and ran off before any consequences.
you walked out and stepped out onto the warm streets. you were glad you wore a short sleeved white top that was tucked into a dark red skirt. you black stockings reached your knees and black chunky boots fitted your feet. you had a plastic devil horned headband on and a choker wrapped around your neck. fitting. lastly, a pair of dark sunshades covered your eyes.
now, your first task? to get someone named choi taeyong to give into a temptation. as you skimmed through his records on your phone you had to admit the angels did a good job keeping his pure.. well.. for now.. anyways.
you threw the helmet on your head before racing off towards the building on your motorcycle.
stereotypical. you knew it was. but hey, you loved it.
finally, you stepped into the facility. sm headquarters. you snapped your fingers before the receptionist could say anything before leaning over the counter and scribbling your signature in and grabbing a keycard. without a care in the world you waltzed around the office, sending pretty smiles towards a anyone who looked over to you. and then, you found it. ‘choi taeyong’ indented into the golden plate that hung on the door. you knocked on the door softly. “mr choi?” you asked before opening the door and entering.
he was tapping away at his laptop, his brows furrowed in concentration. you cleared your throat: “we had a meeting booked today? i really hope you didn’t forget.” you innocently stated, closing the door.
his head popped up as he shut the lid. he was attractive. newly-wed too. wife’s expecting their first child. rich, powerful and had a family at age 27. a miracle indeed.
you sat infront of him on the chair, making sure your skirt rode up a little bit. easy now, you have to lure him in. you’ve done this countless times, you’re a natural.
you could tell he noticed by the way he furrowed his brows for a quick seconds. “now miss..?”
“y/n.”
“miss y/n. what is your pitch for our company?” he asked, rolling his chair closer.
you stood up and placed yourself onto his chair arm. your index finger traced his jawline as your thumb gently pushed his bottom lip down. you moved close to his ear and you could feel the heat radiating from him.
“th-this isn’t appropriate. i’m.. i’m married.” he cleared his throat shuffling a little in his seat.
you chuckled lowly: “oh but my love, is that ever a problem? wasn’t it one of your.. fantasies?” your fingers carded through his thick brown hair before your lips pressed down his jaw to his neck.
taeyong let out a small whimper: “how’d... how’d you know that?” he managed to splutter out between deep, shallow breaths.
“just a guess.. love.” you smashed your lips against his, pulling at his blazer and tie, throwing them off. you seated yourself in his lap now, your lips still on his. you snapped your fingers for the telephone to switch on, dialing his wife. he was too into the moment to notice.
your hand pressed down onto his now prominent bulge as he let out a loud groan.. much to his wife’s dismay. you could here her voice from out the speaker.
“choi fucking taeyong! how fucking dare you! who’s the bitch with you, you bastard! i’m coming right over!” oh, she definitely heard the moan. you roughed him a little more. tangled hair and purple bruises on his neck before you heard his wife burst through.
in a split second, you jumped out of the freakishly large windows and scurried onto your motorcycle and zipped away. you heard a voice scream at you as you heard someone run behind you. as you looked into your side mirrors you discovered it was a boy.
“you! you messed up my hard work!”

Fanfics With Epic Worldbuilding
This reddit thread got me thinking about epic fics that take canon and expand it in incredible, thoughtful ways-- some that seem seamless, and like they could be canon if the creators had gone in another direction, and also alternate universes with very cool canon integration. So. On that note. Here’s some of my absolute favorites. (And feel free to let me know some of yours.)
(More rec lists here)
The Changeling & Armistice, by @annerbhp | Harry Potter | 180k, 320k  Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.
This is the best take on Slytherin house, and especially women in Slytherin house, that I’ve ever seen. Features: traditions, mythology, history and types of magic that aren’t part of the canon universe but feel like they should be. (And a cast of wonderful original or almost-original characters.)
A Curious Carriage of Crystal and Cold by @etharei | X-Men | 115k  Charles, a miner from a poor village in the countryside, saves the life of Erik Lehnsherr, scion of a successful business family and the richest man on the planet Eisen. Charles is a telepath and somewhat anxious about it, while Erik abstains from relationships because the lights flicker and doors open and electronics vibrate when he gets too excited. Also featuring a long-suffering sister, a foul-mouthed bodyguard, and a best friend with a heart that is definitely not gold.In which there are princes, spaceships, long journeys, and old secrets uncovered
This is just. A whole sci-fi world. Class structure, different forms of etiquette, government structure, real history, fake history, and practical considerations about toilets in space.
The Eden!Verse, by @improbabledreams900 | Good Omens | 550k  Picking up where canon leaves off, [the] Eden!verse chronicles Aziraphale & Crowley's adventures through great losses, gains, and life's cosmic curveballs. From a village on Earth to Heaven, Hell, and Eden itself, Aziraphale and Crowley make many new friends, learn God's plan for them, and discover what it means to love each other.
The first fic in this series is relatively self contained, but by the second one it’s exploring heaven, expanding on biblical canon and the laws and hierarchy of angels, and weaving lots of different theological and mathmatical theories together. The plotting is so good it makes me want to cry. Also, the original characters are fantastic.
Home Out in the Wind by @bomberqueen17 | Star Wars (Sequel Series) | 320k Poe gave up a lot of things when he defected to the Resistance, but there's always more to lose. War is an expensive lifestyle. You've got to keep your affairs in order and do the best you can with what you have. He owes this former Stormtrooper a life-debt, and beyond that he knows the kid's exceptional, so he's going to do everything he can to get the kid a fair start in this messy business. Finn wakes up and has no idea what to do beyond joining the Resistance, but he knows he’s got to keep up with Poe somehow.
Dameron family history! Lore, history and culture that’s so well integrated that I had to do some Googling to make sure it wasn’t already Star Wars canon! Other planets! Drugs! Songs! Original characters I would pledge loyalty to forever! The most well-developed OT3 I’ve seen in this fandom! (There’s also a second series, The Lost Kings, about Shara and Kes.)
The Lay of Looking-Glass Land by KL_Morgan | The 100 | 175K Clarke wakes up wearing the tattoos of the Ice Nation. (OR: Soulmates, parallel worlds, and Ice Queen Clarke; oh my. Canon divergent from 2x16.)
Intricate! Rituals! Grounder lore and mythology! And a wonderful what-if ‘verse being explored more in the sequel.
Pantheon, by Yahtzee | X-Men | 130k  In the year 96 AD, all Rome is aware that their gods have begun to Mark certain people with their gifts -- the healing power of Apollo, the metal control of Vulcan, the deathly touch of Pluto, or the mental powers of Minerva. When those gifts fall to slaves or barbarians instead of the Romans themselves, strict control is necessary. Then a gladiator from Judea meets an enslaved scribe from Britannia, and the repercussions will shake the Empire itself.
An amazing integration of X-Men canon into Roman mythology and life, re-imagining of mutations, and epic scale. You could make a religion out of this.
Honorable Mention:
All Things Shining by Askance and Standbyme | Supernatural | 140k  Something in the world is waking up.It isn’t long before it’s brought to the attention of the Winchesters and Castiel: miracles are spreading across the country, the paranormal seems to be shrinking back on itself—and it all has something to do with the missing prayer book of a traveling preacher who died over a century ago. Dean is convinced it’s all the lead-up to another Apocalypse; Sam and Castiel aren’t so sure. Regardless, it sends them out on a less-than-typical road-trip, following the Mississippi and remnants of a very old story that seems increasingly to call to them. And along the way the trio learn much more about themselves—and the consequences and origins of love—than they’d ever have anticipated.
I last read this fic in 2013, but I remember loving the religion that it created. It’s got a lovely fairytale/folklore vibe. And a mythological crack ship that’s... strangely beautiful. Putting it in the honorable mentions because I don’t remember how it ends.
Redemption Road by multiple authors | Supernatural | 650k  Redemption Road is a fan-generated, large-scale AU project created by members of the SPN and Dean/Castiel fandoms.
This is another one I read once in 2013, but it also had some pretty spectacular expansions of Supernatural mythology, and lovable original characters. It’s set up like a season, with episodes and subplots.

5, 10, 19?
Aaay! Thank you so much!! @dreamcrow
5. What’s a crackship you love?
As a crack ship gfdkgsd oh man, my heart is set on Blinky/Strickler on that one ahaha. I already adore whatever dynamics they have together on screen - or even when referencing one another!! And honestly I think they’d make great friends!! Heck they could bond on Roman pennies, and mechanical engineering (seeing as Blinky helped build Jim’s Vespa, and Strickler made a super accurate replica of Merlin’s amulet) and don’e get me started on the quick witted beautiful back and forth they’d have
Once tried writing a Good Omens AU with all this in mind, but never quite had the energy to finish it. Let’s face is the two of them have great Aziraphale / Crowley energy haha
10. Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers?
Oh man oh man, mutual pining. It leaves so much potential open!! Heck even the enemies to friends to lovers could happen within the umbrella of mutual pining (especially if one of the two isn’t ready to admit to their pining -wink- )
That and I’m just a sucker for two people being so equally into one another but just, not quite having the confidence to learn how the other feels. It’s so juicy and can be played oh so deliciously in so many fun ways!
19. What’s your favorite character head canon?
Weeeell there’s certainly one HC I’ve been hinting at for quite some time and have been meaning to make a proper post about - but here is what I’d like to call the Meat and Potatoes (super lean edition) of the Etruscan Strickler HC ヽ(o♡o)/
(please keep in mind I’m not a qualified historian, or anthropologist, or archeologist - but an avid lover of history )
So the Etruscans and the peoples of Etruria have been around for a loooong time, in fact there are some who believe the Etruscan language is one of the building blocks of many italic languages. And for a good amount of centuries they thrived!
Then Rome happened, which was perhaps inevitable seeing as they were on the same peninsula - and because of that the size of Etruria changed depending on which century map you’re looking at. And although at some point Etruria spanned from Umbria to just grazing into the region of Lazio - its biggest consistent chunk existed in what we know today as modern Tuscany.
Because of this I should perhaps make it clear that I believe Strickler came out through the fetch after 32BCE during the already decline of the Etruscan language (in which Etruria is already absorbed and occupied by the Roman Empire). In fact by then only a select few, unless they were Etruscan, knew the language Marcus Terentius Varro for example, the Roman Emperor Claudius (though he probably learned it from his first wife, Plautia Urgulanilla who is believed to be Etruscan).
Now I hear what you’re probably thinking: But his/ his familiar’s name is Waltolomew Strickler? That’s not very Latin sounding for a name.
 And you’re absolutely right!
However, Etruscans (despite occupation and absorption into the Roman Empire - and more so before) were known to be seafaring, trade was very important from Egypt to what we know today as the Greek islands and to the northern coast. Import and export was important and (as well as fighting pirates, but that’s a very fun wiki rabbit hole to fall through another time haha), and with trade comes awesome exposure to other cultures and other peoples from that culture!
Case in point the vague similarities and non similarities between certain deities between the Roman Greek and Etruscan Pantheon! Of course each pantheon has its own variants and deities that don’t exist in another pantheon, as well as different takes on certain heroes i.e the Greek Heracles, and the Etruscan Hercle -which through a lot of found art, is perceived to be a very popular hero for a number of reasons.
I could also go into the account of Etruscan soothsayers being well praised even by Cicero - but that’s another rabbit hole for another time - as well as a reason I like to indulge in the fact that Strickler can come across as rather superstitious at times!
But I’m getting off topic XP TRADE we’re talking about trade, and it was important be it Egypt to the Balkans
And with that in mind it isn’t impossible for a Northern Germanic man to fall in love with an Etruscan woman.
1) women were treated far better in Etruria, as opposed to Rome and Athens. In fact Romans thought they were more promiscuous because of how freely and equally they were treated.
 2) Germanic tribes treated their woman on a similar level of equality.
 3)   As a culture of partnership, heck we are still discovering more and more about the Etruscans but we can make educated guesses through their sarcophagus covers (the reclining lovers and so on). This celebration of life lived even in the face of death.
Very on brand Strickler imo, and if we from history can see how they treated marriage in death we can assume how marriage was treated in life. As loving and equal as possible. In short Strickler grew up with that respecting women juice (at least compared to Roman and Athenian standards)
So name wise, Waltolomew Strickler can come from the Norther Father’s name. Vel for short, as names beginning with ‘w’ aren’t very common in Latin, Etruscan, or Italian. In fact if you go to Italy today and introduce yourself as idk, William -  there’s a good chance they’ll pronounce William as [Vee-lee-am].
However in Latin the use of ‘v’ often replaces the ‘w’ and ‘u’ sounds. u = v and a double u = vv (aaay get it?) And just like that a VValtolomevv is named haha
Enter the name Vel slowly over time becoming Walt over time. I could go on for paragraphs, but I know I explained the whole congnomen thing in Terpsichore, I’d have to re-check and I fear this is already getting…ah…crazy long so I’ll try and wrap it up ^^’’
Initially the real Waltolomew was supposed to be left in the woods to die at the mercy of nature because it didn’t look like the infant wouldn’t survive anyways, but when they went back to check in the woods to find who we know as Strickler the host family Strickler saw it nothing short than an auspicious miracle of the gods, or that their child managed to strike a deal with Vanth (a death god), there’s a lot of theories between the family members to try and explain how Walter’s survival is possible - but all the same Waltolomew is raised in a rather loving family!
There’s the quiet and slightly distant Northern Father (who is occasionally homesick) and mainly tends to the olive grove. The Mother that settles the finances. The Uncle that runs shipptrades and sells the family olive oil. And, of course, The Grandmother who is very proud of living Etruria thank you very much, openly mocking romans, quick with an opinion, morally gray, with a sparkle of mischief - and someone who pretty much elbowed her way into the very serious child Waltolomew’s heart in such a way the changeling wasn’t sure if she knew his secret or even cared!
Eventually Roman payments became too steep, the Northern Father racked up a bit of debt and was sent into the army…the Northern Father never returns presumed dead in action. The resentment of Romans grows even more in the Strickler household because of this.
Which is one of the reasons why later in life Stricklander chooses to occasionally pass as ‘British’ aka one of the peoples the Romans couldn’t occupy and conquer, as opposed to siding with a people who absorbed the population of his home peninsula that would later be known as Italy.
In fact I believe after being forced to work at Hadrian’s wall (which was a laughable failure, although as a Cesare Hadrian was well praised), and returning to find his host family home repossessed by Romans Walter would flee to Gaul (another location where Romans couldn’t conquer).
It wouldn’t be long until the Romans called on a 13 ½ year old Waltolomew to enter into the military just in time for the Hadrian’s Wall debacle. Where Waltolomew grows a respect for the peoples of the British isles for being able to hold off Rome for so long and so much. Afterwards he returns to the peninsula to find his home repossessed by Romans, his grandmother having passed, and his mother and uncle closer to the port and not doing so hot. This spurns Strickler’s dislike for Romans more, an incident occurs, and Waltolomew flees to Gaul (another area famous for being able to hold off the Romans), but this time to join the Gumm-Gumms
More on that another time cause ooo boy this is a long response XP I’m sorry this got so out of hand!!
I wanted to add my thoughts as to why and how I came to the conclusion of this HC but like I said this response is crazy long already so I’ll keep it short (for now) to: That classic ‘Roman Nose profile’ of his, the pale olive skin tone, the vague roman/greek helmet he has in his office, how his Italian VA did not do an English accent in the dub, and - uh, well, I like the idea of it haha
Oh! And here’s a picture of a supermarket outside of Sarteano named ‘Etrusco’ Look at that lil face! It probably doesn’t mean much, but it does spark joy haha
