#he actually listens to her and adjusts his plans after he's made up his mind

Really wish there was more discussion about the Thrawn + Maris Ferasi situation. Like, I love how she's all idealistic and looks at him through some fucking MASSIVE rose-tinted glasses and is convinced he's some galant hero.
Meanwhile Thrawn is all "Omg that's adorable :')" *doesn't have the heart to tell her he was indirectly involved with the murder of 50,000 innocents*.

From the time you lost horribly due to a certain distraction to the time now, your mind has been scrambled to the point of irrevocable recovery. Still, you didn’t say anything to your friends or your teammates, especially about your plans for tonight.
The feeling of that kiss had been lingering for hours on your lips, how could he catch you off guard like that? You wanted to be angry, you wanted to throw all the books off of your desk and wreck everything around you, but you physically can’t. It’s almost as if the feeling of Xavier’s hands trailing down your waist were keeping you from it all.
You sit up in a panic and shake your head, “Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
“Y/n it’s kinda hard to ignore the fact you lost that completion for us but it’s even harder to pretend like somethings not on your mind. As your friend, we need to talk.
“There’s nothing we need to talk about.”
She sits down next to you on your bed and leans back, hugging her knee to give her stability, “So what I heard was that only you and Xavier made it to shore. Could it be something with him?”
Before she can ask more agonizing questions, you sit up and throw the doors of your closet open. “Woah. Calm down.” F/n says softly, “Look if you don’t want to talk about it we don’t have to. I just want to know if—“
“The reason I didn’t get back in time.” You ignore her, huffing roughly, “I was distracted. That’s all that needs to be said.”
“A bit of both, F/n. A bit of both.” With that, you get dressed into a more comfortable outfit, adjusting your hair and doing other rituals to finalize your outing. It should be fun.
“Y/n.” Xavier raises his brows, “Didn’t think you’d actually come. Considering you hate me and all.” He takes a moment to take in all of you. Your outfit, your hair, your makeup, he can’t help but smile to himself. After all, you look cute, so who is he not to appreciate that?
“Afternoon, Xavier.” Your eyebrows lift on instinct, expressing your disapproval of your presence in front of him already. He has his arm propped up against the frame of his door and the way he leans onto it so casually makes something inside of you self implode. Complete with a parted grin, Xavier locks eyes with you and waits for your response.
“I-I don’t hate you.” Keeping composure wasn’t an option. Looking at him in the eyes even once would remind you of that kiss. In fact, looking at him in general was a guaranteed flashback. “At least right now. I have questions.”
“I think I have answers.” He shrugs, “Though I think that kiss kind of cleared everything up—“
You cut him off with a rough sigh, “Yeah. It’s about that.”
“Ok, so…You going to come in? Or are we going to talk right here?” He glances up and looks around at all the passing students. With a small nod, you find yourself entering his dorm room. Hung drawings and strung along polarioids line the walls, giving the overall atmosphere of the room an artsy aesthetic. It’s not as clean as yours, and he lives alone ever since Rowan was expelled from Nevermore, but it’s still nice.
“Sorry about the mess,” Xavier’s voice tugs you back into reality, “I forgot to clean up. The Amontillado’s and I went out for dinner and you know I had a killer steak, almost lost track of time before I realized that I had a possible date with Y/n L/n. I of course didn't want to miss that.” Even though the words coming out of his mouth are cocky and prideful, he looks at you like all of what he’s saying is exaggerated and sarcastic. He’s good at confusing you.
Still, his subtle gloat makes you roll your eyes, “Was that necessary? The steak? The celebrating?”
“Oh absolutely.” He dips his head down and grins, “Let’s talk on my bed.”
“Sure.”
The two of you sit down on the edge of his bed, and now it becomes increasingly obvious that you're the only nervous one between the two of you. Xavier doesn't shy away from the fact either, instead he steals multiple glances at your fidgety hands and blushed cheeks and grins mischievously.
“Do you remember the kiss? How it even happened?” You start, looking him directly in the eyes.
He raises a brow and continues his grin, “Uh, yeah. Other than the fact it was a few hours ago, I don't see why I’d forget it?”
“You didn't answer me from before. I know that now you told me all of that to distract me from the race, but why were you so adamant on telling me that you like me? You could've kissed me and did that, since it was a fool proof plan.”
“Fool proof?” Xavier raises his hand and curls it to his lips, “Me kissing you, was fool proof? For a distraction? Honestly, if you admit it was, I’m not complaining. But I didn't know you could tell me that if I ever tried kissing you before, you'd accept it.”
Usually, you’d be annoyed. Your face would burn with aggression and you’d feel violent remarks bubble in your throat, but now you can’t even think of anything mean to say. Just another question.
“Did you kiss me just to kiss me? Or was it all just a plan?”
Hearing the question makes Xavier stop his teasing. Lip tucked between his teeth to keep quiet, he looks at you, half wondering if what you just said was serious or not and the other half choosing his next words extremely carefully. Though it doesn’t help the throbbing in his chest seeing the way your head is tilted just enough so that you're looking up at him through your lashes, too nervous to hold eye contact for so long.
A brief silence washes over you both before Xavier rubs the back of his neck, pensive in thought. His feeble attempt at making himself seem calm and collected only makes him shift in his position next to you, accidentally brushing his hip against yours.
“No,” Xavier says, his voice just above a whisper, “I meant everything I said. I never wanted to be better than you, I just wanted to talk to you. I like you a lot, Y/n. I never lied about that.”
You show the side of your face and let your shoulders fall, “I never said you lied about it. There’s nothing you can lie about in a kiss like that. You deceived me, not lied.”
He rolls his lips into his mouth and rubs his hand onto his thigh, “You know, it’s not really deception if I meant it all. I was dressed as a jester you know, secretly funny despite being advertised as a joke.”
His laughter that follows after makes your heart tremble. Looking back at him, your smile falls back into nervousness, “I don’t…I don’t not like you.” You stare at his lips, scared to meet his gaze that’s very clearly fixated on you, “It’s just. I don’t like how you make me feel.”
“How exactly do I make you feel, Y/n?” His eyes travel down, “...I know I make you mad.”
“I’m mad because of the way you make me feel, Thorpe. You walk around like you’re some enigmatic being with all the substance and deep personality in the world. You’re always in thought. Maybe that’s why you do better than me.” You sigh, “I can’t focus right. Probably...probably because I’m always thinking about you.”
Even though for once you’re not yelling at him, Xavier listens to you with genuine interest. You didn’t even know that was possible, frankly, neither did he.
You turn your head up to meet his gaze when you realize he hasn’t said anything all this time. “Xavier?” You say softly, “Why did you kiss me?”
He sways back, draping his hand over yours, “You looked like you needed to be kissed. Maybe that’s why. But it seems like no matter what answer I’ll give you, you’re not going to be happy,” he says, pressing his thumb softly into your knuckles, “And all I want is for you to be happy. At least with me.”
This time, you don’t shy away from his touch. There’s not an ounce of nervousness. In place of it, your body acts on its own and you bend more towards him.
“Can I ask a question this time?” Xavier speaks slow and cohesively, “If that’s ok?”
You’re not sure why, but his question intrigued you. What did he have to ask? What more was he confused about? You stop yourself when you realize that these may be questions running through Xavier’s head when he looks at you. When he looks at you, huh, the look on his face makes your ears heat up and your heart skip two beats at once. Of course, scientifically that impossible, but Xavier makes facts feel wrong in your mind. Just like how it was a fact you hated him. Or it was a fact he wanted to be better than you for the sole purpose of humiliating you. Just as those were shot down and proven to be wrong, so have your previous feelings, now shedding new light onto the hidden ones you've kept locked away.
You could feel his smug face staring down at you, as you wait silently for the question.
“How exactly do you feel about me?” The question falls from his lips, the same lips that’d kissed you speechless earlier today, “Because when I look at you, I can feel you hate me, but you said that’s wrong. I don’t know what’s right and wrong when I’m with you. Usually I’d want this to end but, I just want to know, Y/n.”
How you feel? About him? Your eyes trip into his inescapable stare and suddenly you feel your throat start to close. Of course, you didn't want to leave him short or even worse, assuming your feelings towards him because anything that isn't what you say is wrong and you need to communicate that with him but you just can’t. It’s so easy just to swallow your pride and talk, but every second of silence jabs the knife of uncertainty deeper and deeper.
But you have to say something.
“Xavier—”
“Y/n—” Suddenly, he interrupts. Not intentionally, but because you were silent for so long.
Maybe you and him aren't so different after all.
Xavier’s quick to apologize, but you're faster. “Sorry, go ahead.” The heat on your face only grows hotter so you're forced to pull the collar of your shirt away from your skin.
“No, it’s ok, I was just going to say something stupid.” He shakes his head, causing his long hair to sweep along his perfectly cut jaw, “Go on.”
You roll your shoulders back and inhale sharply, “We both know I don’t like being second best—”
“Obviously.”
You glare at Xavier.
“Right, sorry.”
“And we both know that that obviously has been happening—”
“Not intentionally.”
“XAVIER.” Your rival laughs at your temper, only for you to grind your teeth together in frustration, “I’m trying to tell you how I feel about you—like you ASKED—but you keep interrupting me! PLEASE! Be quiet!”
He chuckles a bit before nodding, “Yes ma’am.”
You decide to ignore that. For now at least. Instead, your nervousness returns now that the uncomfortable silence has returned, but at least you have the spotlight now. An ache in your chest spirals into your stomach as the thought of ‘now or never’ finally settled in. If telling Xavier how you really felt all this time would mean relief from all the negativity bottled up inside you, self loathing tendencies and being the human embodiment of a locked box with no key, you were willing to take the risk of him making any comments towards you.
Reaching out, you take your finger and place it on top of his as a sort of reassurance that everything will be ok if you know this moment is real. He glances at your small gesture, his lips cracking into an unnoticed smirk, and curls his slender finger under yours, hugging it almost.
"I guess there’s no better way to say that...I return your feelings. It’s ironic too because, for all the time we spend together, even if it’s not quality time or anything, I like it. I like it a lot. You actually make what I do fun, I realize that now.” The words become even easier to say, “No matter how much I push you away, it makes you ten times stronger. And I don't think I want to let that go. What I’m trying to get at is I like having you around. I don’t know if it’s your presence, or just you in general, but I don’t want to let go of it any time soon.” It takes another moment before you finally say, “I like you back, Xavier.”
Silence, again. That was...something.
Almost as if the quietness wasn't deafening enough, a small chuckle breaks it and somehow makes the whole situation all the more unbearable.
“What?” Your voice is exasperated, “Why are you laughing?”
“I’m not laughing at you,” He smiles and cuts his hair down the middle, allowing it to fall from each side loosely, “You know you do this thing where when you're talking, you kinda,” he swerves his wrist in a circle and motions in front of his face, “I don't know how to explain it, but it’s really cute.”
His smugness is infectious. Like a virus, it travels into your system and makes you avert your eyes to wherever he isn't looking to distract yourself from the overwhelming palpitations your heart is running. “Hey,” his deep voice speaks, somehow closer to you now, “Is there maybe something else you want to tell me?” Xavier mutters.
“Actually, yeah.” You nod, enveloping your other hand over your ear and looking to the other side of him for a brief moment, “I want you to give me another answer.”
“To what question?”
“My feelings.” You whisper comfortably, “Not like last time. Not as a distraction. As a real thing.”
“Are you sure?” Xavier whispers too kneading his hand into yours, “Like, you want me to kiss you again?”
You feel like the breath is knocked from your lungs when you nod your head, “Please.”
He hesitates a little before bringing his cold palm directly to your collarbone, using his thumb to lead his movements to where he wants it to be. The gentleness of his touch makes you even weaker than before. Just barely, the tip of his thumb stretches the corner of your lip, bouncing it back into place when he feels like he’s satisfied. Little touches like that make your head reel. You don't even care that you want to ask how he knows all the right places to touch you, you just close your eyes and let him. Before you know it, that crashing sensation returns. Fuck, have you missed it.
Very quickly, Xavier feels a jolt hit your body as it tenses against his grasp, but as quick as it came, it leaves and you give in. An arm wraps around you, catching your waist and pulling you closer to him, his unoccupied hand rubbing slow and small circles on your back smoothly while he takes the bottom of your lip and nods deeper into your mouth. He’s in no hurry to do anything more, but you can tell he wants to stay here with you for hours. It’s all easily told with his not so secret grabbing and pulling that in this moment, you're all he wants.
There’s something surprisingly methodical, coming from him, in the way he takes in your lip, sucking gently on the pliant skin, then scrunching your hair in between the spaces of his fingers. There’s one spot his touch lingers on though, the nape of your neck. The spot, with an ache for much needed attention, makes you squirm into him when he runs his thumb over it accidentally—almost like a sweet spot of yours Xavier was sure to abuse in the future.
You don't notice it at first, but eventually you realize that through the total mind fuzziness of when he kisses you, you've both ended up further up than you were when you first started on his bed. The way time passes doesn't seem real, kissing him feels like nothing else matters in the world. In fact, being around him, in his dorm room, and just looking at him was all it took for you to forget about everything.
When he eventually pulls back, his body lifting away from you—a second of fleeting panic shoots through your chest at the sudden space between you both. By the solemn expression on his face, eyes hooded with pure relaxation and satisfaction, he can tell you enjoyed the kiss a little more than you should've.
“So, does this mean that I can take you out on a proper date now?” He mutters against your lips, “Because I’ve been having these dreams of taking you to this place out in town. You know,” Xavier kisses his teeth, “Gotta listen to the dreams, Y/n.”
His smugness is now just laughable, so you give in and throw your head back chuckling, “Let’s listen to them then. I’m free tomorrow?”
“So am I.” He leans back in and gives you another soft, quick kiss but instead of pulling away this time, he remains close to your face, his fingers interlocked with yours, “I’m really glad we figured this out, Y/n.”
“Me too.” Your chest flutters.
No one told you how to feel after your first kiss with your sworn academic rival. There were no rules to base your feelings on and there was certainly no expectations to meet up to. But you weren't confused anymore, that was the more important issue. Your head is clear as it’s ever been. Thanks to him, Xavier made that all possible.

You spent five weeks in the ICU, four of them in a medically induced coma. The doctor said that it was so you actually gave your body time to recover; the first few weeks after surgery was always the rockiest stage of any major injury.
Spencer spent every waking hour with you, if you were conscious or not. He read to you, had conversations with you, and told you anything that came to mind because he knows you love his voice. After three nights straight at the hospital, the nurses practically begged Spencer to go home, rest, recuperate, and get cleaned up. And Spencer admits, he felt a lot better after going back to your shared home.
When the doctors decided it was time to wake you up, Spencer was all but shoved out of the room. Something abour “not overwhelming her” or something. Spencer wasn’t listening anyway. After texting JJ, she told Spencer she’d let everyone know the news as they were currently in South Dakota catching a serial rapist and killer. And then Spencer resolved to pacing, reciting each song lyric you told Spencer reminded you of him. He repeated the few poems he had gotten you to read, voice softening as you read the words. And Spencer repeated the vows you and him had written for each other, remembering your face and your voice, the way you stood and how you smelled. He relived it as you were being pulled out of the darkness of your unconscious.
“Dr. Reid?” The nurse asked, pausing Spencer mid-step. He watched a few other nurses file out, and Spencer felt his heart beat a little faster in his chest.
“Yes?” He answered, breath held.
“Mrs. Reid is awake. You are more than welcome to go in there, but don’t put her on any additional stress.”
Spencer had barely said ‘thank you’ before he was hightailing it to the side of your bed. He felt the wind rush out of his lunge when he saw you blinking harshly, eyes trying to adjust to the light.
“Hey sweetheart,” Spencer whispered, tears trailing down his cheeks. He sat down and carefully took your callused hands in his.
You cleared your throat. “Hi,” you said finally, voice gravely from disuse. “You okay?”
A watery laugh bubbled out of Spencer. “You fall off a building and you ask me if okay. Baby, I love you so much.”
“Takes more than a fall to take me away from you, husband,” you murmured, letting your hand trace Spencer’s cheek. “But… how is everyone doing? I heard some of the things you guys said when I was… out, but I want to hear from you.”
The genius looked away, salty tears dampening his beautiful eyelashes. “Hotch is planning to prosecute the guys who made the safety harness that you wore because we all know you never would have worn something that was unsafe or had been recalled. We’ve just…” Spencer sniffled, turning his head to look back at you, “I guess we’ve just kept busy.”
You hummed. “How long will I be out of the showbusiness?”
Spencer looked at you, your eyes tired despite all the sleep you had been getting. He knew your world would shatter when he told you that you’d be in recovery for at least another year and a half. Your lipped twitched- an attempt to get the man you loved to smile. Yet again Spencer felt his heart crack: this was going to break you. “Doc says… about two years.”
The pointer finger still tracing Spencer’s face stilled. Your face blanked and Spencer felt the ari leave his lungs at how you looked at him. “What did you say?”
Spencer took your hand in his, kissing your knuckles as his tears fell onto your own and then slid down down down to the cold hospital floor. “Two years, baby.”
“Years. Tw-Two years,” you repeated in a whisper. “Two years.”
Spencer’s eyes shut. Your head fell back on the pillow, eyes boring holes into the ceiling as your own tears welled in your eyes.
“I know, baby, I know,” Spencer cried as you wept silently.
Tumblr media
“You got this, wife,” Spencer whispered, pecking the crown of your head before going to stand across you, metal bars on either side of the wheelchair you carefully stood from.
It was your twenty third day of physical therapy, and boy was it hell. Your entire bottom half hurt, feeling as if fire consumed your muscles as you shakily got used to being on your feet again. Your back hurt the worst, though. You tried to play it off the best you could, but when the shooting pain took hold of the sensitive nerves of your spine, you couldn’t do more than screw your eyes shut andprace your head for the inevitable fall.
It had been getting better, you thought. Taking your first six steps was getting easier. Getting out of the pool was easier, and you could stand up without yelping in pain. But still, as you pushed through eveey PT session, you couldn’t help but feel disgusted at yourself for not being able to do basic human activities.
Spencer really atuck to his vows, remaining steadfast at your side through everything. He was at your every beck and call, updating you on your coworkers and all the other people you’d grown close to as a welder and as a woman. Spence took pride being able to help you, being your rock as you always are for him.
Aaron was actively prosecuting the company that produced the faulty equipment. As requested by Spencer, Aaron didn’t tell you much. It was better in both of their minds that you focused on recovery and not having Hotch dumb down the details of legal stuff- not that you were dumb, you just weren’t as educated as Spencer and Aaron. Obviously.
Penelope made a point to bring you food every other day. With her she brought a big hug, warm smile, and hot tea. You listened closely to the gossip she had to share, grateful that she didn’t try overly hard to comfort you- she was just like a sister in that way.
Emily stopped by when she could, but understandably had other plans for her time off; i.e.: napping. When she came Emily brought a book or two she had seen and thought of you about or a magazine.
J.J. tried as hard as Penny did, bringing Henry and Will whenever possible. You appreciated the family, feeling fully accepted as J.J.’s soul sister, despite only knowing Spencer’s coworkers for almost a year. Henry had clicked with you right away and told you stories as he snuggled up to you in the hospital bed. When he fell asleep, Will and J would make conversation with you.
Derek had dinner with you and Spencer every weekend. He brought something new every time and always shut sown your protests at how expensive it must have been, aspecially since the three of you combined could eat $300 worth of food- having fast metabolism and being an athletic person was worth bragging about while shoving half pound birgers into your mouth. Despite just the good food, Derek made sure to talk with just you, offering a deep conversation or a lightheard bickering session, letting you know you weren’t alone.
Rossi visited every time he had time. David had grown fond of you and your personality. You were a hardworking, sincere, and (painfully) honest person. All admirable traits, Rossi thought. He always brought flowers, chocolate, and a milkshake/smoothie for you. Though his visits were shorter in comparison to Derek’s or Penny’s, David visited more frequently. He filled you in on details of the lawsuit Aaron was working on, staff drama, and other fatherly conversation.
Tumblr media
Slowly, the months passed.
60 more days passed before the hospital finally brought up your discharge.
Through all that time you had managed to re-gain the ability to walk, run, swim 2 laps uninterrupted, and were improving daily.
You were proud of your progress, but especially thankful of all the people that had stood by your side the entire way. Your eyes burned just thinking about the love Spencer’s family your family had for you.
When one of the nurses you had grown close to finally brought up your discharge, you threw your arms around her and practically cried tears of joy. Spencer kept his composure better, but you could see the shine in his eyes as he discussed the details as you pulled yourseld away from the nurse.
The team was on a case when you reported back to them, but J.J. and Derek immediately set up a quick video call to voice their happiness. Even Aaron stepped in frame, a warm smile on his face as he spoke of how happy he was for you. David showed up right at the end. You swear you saw a tear roll down his cheek as he told you how proud he was of you, how strong you are, and how thankful he is that you’re okay.
Beside you, Spencer ran his hands through your hair with a shaking hand. He, too, cried.
It was two weeks later when you shoved your bags in the back of your truck (you insisted it be the vehicle Spencer drove home) and left the hospital.
“I love you Spencer Walter Reid.”
The two of you stood, leaning against each other, in front of your home. The feeling of Spencer’s warm body under your touch made you feel alive- electric, even. You felt like you could do anything as you carried your own bags into your own home with your own husband.
With Spencer by your side, you were finally learning how to live again.

Taste of You - Ken x fem!reader - PART 4.5 (BONUS)
So I had initially planned to have a double dom!/sub! Chapter where Ken and the reader switched roles halfway through, but I decided I wanted them separate despite them happening back to back. SOO if you haven’t read the first part you can find it in my Masterlist, otherwise have fun and I hope you enjoy <3
Warnings: 18+ ONLY / smuttyyy smut / fingering / dom! Ken / desperate Ken / praise k!nk / / smut / reader might be slowly losing her mind but she’s fine with it / kinda some non-con but reader is into it / spanking / edging / overstimming / this one goes harder than any of the chapters before so, if that might be intimidating or possibly triggering for you, tread softly. Always take care of yourself first <3
Alrighty. Have fun, besties. 🖤🖤
Tumblr media
“Hey.”
Ken's voice broke through your sleep, and you blinked your eyes open. The room was bright with the day's sunlight, and you had a moment of struggle to come to, you had been so deeply asleep.
The moment your eyes adjusted, you looked up and saw Ken beside you, kneeling, his cock looking painfully hard and a smirk on his face. You attempted to move but realized your wrists were bound above your head tightly, and you saw Ken's fist clenched around a leather belt in his right hand. You sucked in air sharply, already overwhelmed when you hadn't even been fully awake a whole minute ago.
Ken leaned over you now, your mind racing as he stared down at you, kissing you lovingly before nipping at your lower lip and running the belt gently up your thigh.
"Now," his words made you already want to tremble, "it's my turn."
You tried to sit up but he had definitely made sure your restraints wouldn’t budge, and your mind raced on how to get out of this, not being ready for anything this quick after waking up.
Ken *was* ready though, and he ran the belt from up your thigh to your stomach, and you squirmed.
“What word do I need to listen for to stop?” He said, voice husky, his face inches from yours as he leaned on his arm next to you.
“Ken -“
“Not that one, I won’t allow it. I *want* to hear you say that.”
“No, no, Ken, I need you to let me out for a little while.”
He watched you and you pleaded with your eyes. “Please? Just let me wake up a moment, get some water?”
He ponded for a second but then agreed, untying your wrists and you sighed when you had your hands back to yourself. “Thank you.”
Ken helped you off the bed and trailed behind as you went to the kitchen for a drink. You were having a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights moment, kind of self conscious and not quite sure how to react to Ken right now, who, despite always having a bit of a rough side to him during sex lately, seemed like he was going to go way harder than before. Which you liked but you *were* actually anxious at not knowing what all he had in mind, and the fact that he might have developed a playful vendetta after last night.
You jumped a little after filling your cup with water, turning around to see him standing so close to you, you weren’t sure how you didn’t brush against him when you turned. He wore his black denim pants - the ones you had told him you thought made his ass look the best - and was shirtless, like usual.
He nodded towards your glass impatient. “Drink.”
“I’m working on it.”
“Mmmm, okay, well work faster,” he reached for you and tickled your waist a little while smiling, which made you laugh and jump and you spilled the water on both of you, but mostly on Ken.
He smiled and let out a small chuckle, then wrapped his fingers in your hair and brought your face forward to his now wet chest. “Drink.”
You looked up at him through your lashes, feeling playful. “And what if I refuse?”
He cocked his head. “I don’t remember giving you the option of ‘No.’” He pulled your face to his skin and you licked up one of his pecs where the water was still dripping off. Ken inhaled sharply, eyes closing for a moment as he let himself experience your mouth on his body. You kept your eyes on his face as you slowly worked your way down his abs, kissing and licking any trickles of water left, and Ken moaned quietly, keeping his hand in your hair.
You reached for his cock but the moment your hand touched it, he grabbed your wrist, eyes open and looking down at you now.
“I didn’t say you could do that.”
Well THIS was definitely new, but you decided to have fun with it. You smirked as you leaned forward to to take him in your mouth but instead Ken tugged on your hair, encouraging you to stand up. You looked at him and pretended to pout. You saw him soften a bit, especially his eyes, and he had the look he always got before he would tenderly pleasure you for what seemed like hours until you would drift off together. You reached for his cock again, though, and that seemed to snap him out of it, like he remembered what it was he had planned to do.
“I said, I didn’t give you permission to do that,” he said in your ear as he folded both of your arms behind your back, elbows bent, both of your arms being held together by his large hand. He began marching you back to the bedroom briskly, forcing you chest-first onto the bed, bent over with your feet still on the floor.
“Ken,” you giggled. “What are you planning to -“ you were cut off with a sharp pain on your ass, Ken having smacked you unexpectedly with the belt. You screamed when he did it again before you could take a breath, Ken holding you down onto the bed, his grip around your arms bruising.
“You gonna be a good girl for me?” He purred, and the sound of him repeating his praises back to you made you knees buckle.
You shook just a little from the sudden assault, shocked at how much you actually were enjoying it. You wondered if you should play along or tease him, and the latter got the better of you. You turned your head as best as you could in your current position, your eyes twinkling as they met his.
“What if I don’t want to?”
You saw a hint of amusement in Ken’s eye before he brought the belt down on you again, and you jumped, back arching from the mixture of pleasure and pain.
Ken leaned over you now, his partial body weight pushing you further into the bed. “That’s alright. I’ll just have to make you.”
You moaned loudly at his words and Ken stood again, continuing his lashing from before. You were trembling a little when he hit the fourth lash, and your knees buckled by the sixth, the sensation so much sharper and intense than it was when he’d use his hand.
“Ken, please -“ you choked out as the belt came down again, and he paused, hearing the way your voice cracked a little.
He leaned down over you again, hand still holding your arms hostage. “So you gonna be good for me, y/n?”
You nodded, unhappy with how quickly you had relented, but also desperately needing some time to recover.
“Mmmm,” Ken hummed, smiling, and gently placing a kiss on your ear. “I love you so much, y/n.”
You breathed as a warmth filled your chest as he stood up, then landed two more harsh lashes on your ass. You screamed, and he released your arms finally, you grasping the covers to hold onto something but also to deal with the pain.
Ken took both of you ass cheeks in his hands and massaged them gently, admiring his work, watching your body tremble and hearing the little whimpers coming out of your mouth.
He gave you a moment to recover, your head spinning, as he forced open your legs with his own, standing between them. He held your hips while he kissed softly down your back, enjoying the little shivers that happened because of his touch, and once you had calmed down a little, he stood up again.
You felt the belt run alongside your vulva and you clenched. “Oh, shit, Ken, no, please not -“
“Shhhh, shhhh,” he soothed. “Not this time. Just wanted to see your reaction.”
You felt one of his fingers enter you then, his other hand holding down your lower back.
“No moving,” he said, and you bit into the sheets beneath you to maintain some form of mental control as he immediately found your special spot and began rubbing his finger in circles on it. He added in another after a moment, and you left out a soft moan but remained as motionless as you could.
“You’re actually way better at this than I was,” he mused. “I actually prefer you moving all you like.” He leaned over your again, kissing the side of your neck. “I just wanted to see how well you could obey.”
“I’ll get you back,” you exhaled shakily as Ken’s fingers sped up, pressing into your spot *just* right.
Ken smiled against your hair and kissed the side of your head. “I’ll look forward to that,” he said, continuing finger fucking you until he knew you were close.
You expected him to edge you on like you had to him, but right when you were about to climax he added in a third finger and fucked in and out of you *so* perfectly that you cried into the covers as you came, Ken humming and complimenting you the whole time.
“You’re so good to me. You stretch around my fingers so perfectly, y/n. Always cumming to make me happy. Always letting me do whatever I want with you.”
Your exhaled loudly as you were coming down, still mildly dizzy from so much sensation so quickly, but before you could ground yourself fully, Ken kneeled between your legs and held you open for him, firmly licking a stripe from your clit up to your opening.
You gasped, feeling incredibly sensitive and you struggled against his hold.
“Need a moment,” you begged, trying to pull yourself away, but Ken didn’t let up, talking to you in between sucking and licking and little nips.
“I don’t remember you letting up when you were trying to exhaust me,” he said cheekily, and if you’d had the energy you’d have kicked him away.
“My sweet y/n can take whatever I give her, right?”
“Shut up,” you groaned, slowly losing the ability to control your body.
“You’re so wet for me.” He put three fingers back in you for emphasis, and you cried out, bucking into them unintentionally thus causing them to penetrate you deeper.
“I can’t…I can’t, please, ah…” Your voice was losing its usual volume and quivered on the last moan.
“I think you can.” Ken sucked hard on your clit again, and you sobbed, begging him to give you a break until your legs gave out and Ken caught you effortlessly, all fight left in you gone.
“How does it feel to be exhausted by your lover?” He purred into your ear, your naked body limp in his arms as he sat you onto his lap on the bed. “How does it feel to be completely under my control?”
Your head lolled back onto his shoulder, and you moaned an answer incoherently. Ken turned your chin gently to him and kissed you deeply.
You felt yourself being picked up bridal-style and placed down onto the bed, your head resting on the pillows, your body relaxing into the mattress. You opened your eyes as Ken lowered himself on top of you, propping up on his forearms, and running his fingers along your face, kissing you tenderly.
“You’re so beautiful,” he mumbled into your mouth. “So perfect. You always let me get lost in you. I love it so much.”
Your brain and body started feeling connected again after awhile, Ken loving on you gently the entire time, making sure you felt surrounded by him.
You sighed in relief when you felt fully back to reality, despite some sleepiness settling in. You laced your hands behind his neck, and returned the soft smile that he gave you.
“Hi.”
He kissed your forehead. “Hi. How are you feeling?”
“Tired.”
“But good?”
You giggled. “Yes, good.”
He smiled bigger. “Good.” He took your hands in his. “I”m going to need these.”
“Ohhhh god, oh, god, uh, Ken, Ken wait, can we talk about -“
Ken had already tightly imprisoned your hands in the pantyhose rope you had made the night before, and was fastening them to the headboard before you had a chance to physically react.
You tugged at the restraints, and Ken looked down upon you lying there, helpless and flushed beneath him. His pupils were blown and your stomach flipped - oh, fuck, he was *SO* turned on right now.
“Ken, take it easy on me?” You squeaked as he grabbed your hips roughly. He kneeled in front of you and lifted your hips up so your knees hung over his shoulders, your vulva directly in front of his face. He was so tall that you were partially lying upside down, your bound hands making it impossible for you to push or balance yourself on anything.
He winked at you - motherfucker WINKED - and then his mouth was on you, your hip bones held tightly, and you shuddered intensely as he began devouring you roughly.
Ken watched you, trying to ignore how much his cock was hurting right now from straining against its skin, your entire being fully under his power. Your eyes were shut and the noises you were making were spectacular, and he loved how stretched out you were between the restraints and his grip. The only control you really had over yourself right now was what you could say because your body was already so tired that you couldn’t even try to get your legs off of his shoulder.
“So fucking sweet,” he said, pulling his mouth back just long enough for you to get in a deep breath, and then he was consuming you again, tongue gliding and poking and tickling every inch of you he could find. You yelped when you felt his lips suck harshly on your inner thigh, knowing he had marked you, and then shook when he repeated it on the other leg before dipping his tongue back into you.
“Ken,” you started begging again. “Please.” Your voice was becoming a little hoarse, you had lost all track of time and had no clue how long this had been going on.
“Yes, y/n?” He breathed dreamily, like he was in heaven, going back to lazily circling your clit with his tongue.
“I can’t-“
“Yes, you can, and you will. You still owe me one more after this one.”
Your eyes shot open. “One..one more?”
His eyes shone, his mouth still on you, and he winked again.
Something about all of that - the sudden knowing that he wasn’t going to stop until you’d climaxed three times?!, the look of pure adoration on his face being buried in you, and how hot this entire scenario actually was despite how dizzy and exhausted you were - hit at once and you came hard. You hadn’t expected it and you cried out loudly while Ken continued pleasuring you until you began to come down again, heaving loudly, tiny sobs escaping your lips as your eyes leaked.
Ken lowered your hips back to the bed and kissed you deeply, your juices mixing with his saliva, and his tongue ran against yours and your lower lip. He moaned into you loudly, cradling the back of your head with his hand until your breathing calmed and he stopped kissing long enough to look down at you.
“You’re doing so good.”
Tears definitely began coming now. “Please, Ken, I can’t do anymore right now.”
His face showed that he knew you weren’t playing, and that he cared deeply. “I won’t hurt you.”
You nodded, sniffling a little. “I know, I’m just….I wasn’t expecting this much.”
He kissed you deeply again, just one time, and smiled down at you. “I won’t do anymore until you’re ready.”
To your surprise, he reached up and untied your hands, kissing each one as he let them free, then kissing around your wrists where the minor imprints from the hose had rubbed in a little too tightly.
“Ken,” you breathed, “can we like, do the last one later?”
He lifted an eyebrow. “I said I won’t do anymore until you’re ready.”
“What if I’m not ready until like, later tonight?”
He smirked. “I don’t think that’ll be the case.”
“Ken.” You squirmed underneath him, and unfortunately your hips moved into his *just right,* because his eyes closed and he groaned from the back of his throat.
“You’re making it really hard to let you recover,” he almost huffed, his eyes dark, and the way he was looking down at you gave you the most intense, weirdly submissive desire you had ever felt. His broad shoulders attached to his slightly strained neck, his chiseled arms and pecs and abs around you, on top of you, those blue eyes dangerously dark, his hair looking that perfect just-woke-up messy.
You whimpered at the sight and the feeling of him, just…everywhere around you, and he sucked in a sharp breath hearing you. You knew all hope was lost then.
“Ken,” you whispered, your hand cradling his face the way he loved, and he leaned into it and hummed the same way he always did. “Just…please be gentle.”
“I’ve got you.” Ken pulled you a little father down the bed, just below where your head touched the pillows, and unzipped his jeans, ridding himself of them quickly. You weren’t sure if you had ever seen his member looking that strained before, and you shuddered, trying to prepare yourself. He towered over you as he pulled both of your legs up and apart, resting your ankles by his face so as he bent over you, your legs were being pushed back to leave you completely open for him.
You had the slightest moment of panic, from where you weren’t sure, other than you had never been this overwhelmed from sex before.
“Please don’t hurt me.” The words escaped your mouth before you knew it, and a tear streamed down your cheek.
Ken looked at you, forcing his face to calm down so you saw him as he always wanted you to see him, as someone who loved you. He kissed right above one of your ankles. “I would never hurt you.”
He wanted to take you then, bury his cock into you roughly and you would scream his name is ecstacy and you would cum trembling and falling apart completely and you would adore how he could make you feel this way, but he paused, realizing you needed a little more care before he could continue.
Hooking your knees over his shoulders again, he lowered himself over you, and you gripped the sheets, waiting for him to penetrate you. Instead, he took one of your nipples into his mouth softly, moaning as his lips just barely sucked on it, his tongue tracing circles around it that made you shiver, but he watched you as the tiniest of smiles ghosted across your face, your eyes closed, and he knew he was on the right track.
Your moans sounded so soft and sweet as he did this to your other nipple, your body relaxing and after a bit your hands running through his hair, which *he* loved.
Your breathing returned to normal, he touched his forehead to yours. You opened your eyes and immediately became lost in his.
“Hi.”
You giggled a little. “Hi.”
He watched you closely as he lowered his hips into yours, his cock rubbing alongside your vulva, and you jerked the tiniest bit from the sensation.
“How is that?” He asked, doing it again, a little harder.
He was going to wait for your reply but wanted to test something. “Think you can take it for me, like a good girl?”
He was enthralled when your mouth dropped open a little, your sex-dazed face looking so ready to be fucked, and he contemplated fucking into your mouth for a moment before forcing his mind back into focus.
“Can you handle just a little more?” He pressed his tip into your opening, and you automatically clenched tightly, causing a deep rumble in his chest.
His eyes met yours, dangerous, almost past the point of no return. “You ready to prove who you fucking belong to?”
Your eyes went wide as he bottomed out in with a single thrust and you both moaned in unison, your nails digging into his arms, your head back.
Ken leaned down to suck on your throat right before his second thrust, as swift and harsh as the first, and he swore if he didn’t want to make certain you came again that he would lose it within a matter of seconds. You pulsed around him, so warm and tight, and he growled as he began to fuck into you, making every thrust count, as you cried out every time he bottomed out into you, leveraging your legs so you were unable to do anything other than lay there and try to breathe.
“Ken,” your mangled cry caught his attention but he didn’t stop his movements.
“Need more, y/n? Need some more, like my good girl?”
He leveraged himself above you so instead of your hips meeting horizontally, he pushed your legs back so your hips were slightly off the bed and you were held open for him to sink into almost vertically.
He sunk directly into you, your legs straight and resting on his shoulders, his hands on either side of you holding himself up, and you screamed and fisted the sheets over your head.
Your body began to tremble now, and you had no control over it as the pain of being penetrated so deeply got mixed with how fucking *GOOD* it felt too, and watching Ken being the one to do this to you whenever you felt you could keep your eyes open for a moment made it all the better.
You *did* feel really overwhelmed, though. The dizziness from before had returned and was slowly threatening to take over completely.
You must have shown signs of distress because you heard Ken speaking over you, although not letting up on his thrusts. “Hey,” he soothed, “are you okay?”
“I’m…overstimulated..” you choked.
“Mmmmm…” Ken ponders this, leaning down so his hips were literally touching your own. “Do you need me to stop?”
You shook your head quicker than you had expected to, and if you had been looking you would have seen Ken smile. You felt his hot breath caress your ear before biting your lobe.
“You can take it for me, though, can’t you?”
If you had been asked to describe the next few minutes you were never would have been able to, as your senses became thrown into what you could only describe as chaos. Ken fucked you, held you, sucked on you until you were shaking uncontrollably, your voice hoarse. You swore you heard him speaking but couldn’t make out any of the worlds, your head swam so dizzingly with trying to comprehend the overstimulation.
Tears fell down your face when your orgasm hit, and you screamed to be able to get through it. You might have made it up but later on you thought you remembered hearing Ken whispering, “I love you, fuck, I love you so much, y/n. Fall apart for me,” as your body was racked with pleasure so intense it touched on being painful.
Ken immediately came after, his final few thrusts destroying you as he finally lowered your legs back onto the bed. He kept his cock buried inside of you as he lowered himself back over you, forearms on either side of your head again, and kissed you and praised you endlessly as he surrounded your trembling body.
“I’ll get you back, you fucker.” Your words were hoarse and breathy.
Ken laughed at your threat, and you managed a small smile despite your exhaustion. “I know you will,” he said, nuzzling his nose into yours.

The Reluctant Bride
(18+, Explicit) Kinktober Day 6: Dub Con Two parts (5,400 words total)
Gale was pulled from his reading when a simple brown paper parcel was dropped onto the desk before him. He stared at it for a moment, confused.
“Whatever you were expecting arrived,” Tav told him by way of explanation.
“I wasn’t aware I was expecting something,” Gale said, eyebrows knitting together. He reached for the package.
Tav let out a light laugh and shrugged, “I feel like that applies to at least half the items that arrive.”
Gale had to concede. She was right, people were always sending him letters ahead warning him of things they were planning to send and yet when those items arrived he rarely remembered until he actually saw the item.
She disappeared behind him and he only half listened as she greeted Astarion who’d been contemplating the sea for some time. Astarion whined about something and she laughed again.
After glancing over the package and finding nothing written Gale carefully began unwrapping it.
Astarion had decided to stay with them for a while after their initial visit. Gale didn’t mind and realized how perilous the journey from Waterdeep to Baldur’s Gate could be when one was forced to do it at night alone. It wasn’t fair to put the rogue out so soon after he’d made the trip one way. Besides, Tav was enjoying the company, and both of their sleep schedules had slowly adjusted to stay up later to be proper hosts.
Whenever Tav was busy Astarion went out of his way to find and pester Gale. Gale was doing his best to be civil about it knowing eventually Astarion would grow bored and move on to other things to do. Astarion enjoyed reading, much as he had on their journey, and not just archaic texts but the random modern novels Gale had strewn about the tower. Also, much to Gale’s chagrin, often had useful insights into whatever he was researching that day.
Inside the package, with still no additional note, was a rather large red gem set into a gold pendant. The whole thing was hanging from a golden chain. Gale carefully lifted it and held it towards the light watching as the thing gently twisted in the air. There were marks etched into the back, likely done while the gold was still molten. He couldn’t make out exactly what they were. But there was magic imbued in it, Gale could feel it swirling around the pendant. Strands of the weave bumping into the hand that suspended the thing in the air.
“Well, isn’t that shiny,” Gale heard Astarion’s voice over his shoulder and then the sound of footsteps approaching.
“A bit gaudy,” Tav chimed in, Gale agreed still watching the item spin.
“Very expensive if it’s real,” Astarion countered sounding suddenly very interested in the item.
Gale suppressed a sigh. “I can’t make out the inscription,” he muttered half to himself.
Without warning a pale hand reached forward and snatched the necklace from him. Gale huffed and rolled his eyes for no one to see. He turned slightly to see Astarion holding the necklace gem down, leaning towards the light in an effort to see the writing better.
It was the vampire’s turn to huff. “It’s not something I’m familiar with, either,” he admitted almost sullenly. Likely bothered at losing a chance to one up Gale.
“But,” he started and held the chain, letting the pendant drop so it was swinging again, “that is real.” His voice held and uncharacteristic amount of awe to it.
Gale grabbed the necklace back again making a mental note to lock it away in the safe in his bedroom. It’s not that he didn’t trust the rogue but old habits died hard. Especially with the light-fingered. He turned it over in his hand and also leaned towards the candle light, hoping the inscription would suddenly make itself clear.
“The reluctant bride,” Tav said slowly, her voice somewhere over Gale’s other shoulder.
He turned to look at her in question.
“What?” She asked cheeks turning pink, “it’s written in infernal,” she said as if that explained things.
“Since when do you read infernal?” Astarion asked before Gale could even open his mouth to form the words.
Tav’s blush deepened and she looked away from them. “I’ve had a lot of time on my hands and it’s a language I wish I’d known,” she mumbled.
Gale realized he had seen her more times than he could count with several books spread around her on the floor. She was always painstakingly writing something before flipping through another of the books. She’d been teaching herself to read infernal, he realized now. No doubt burdened by some guilt over not being able to read the marks on Astarion’s back.
“So,” Tav said, voice suddenly too bright for the heaviness in the room, “is it called the Reluctant Bride, or for her?”
Gale hummed and turned the pendant over a few times in his hand. The weave was crawling across his skin now, making its way up his arms.
“Well,” Astarion drawled, one hand coming to rest on Gale’s shoulder as he leaned over it to eye up the pendant, “I know I’d be a much less reluctant bride with that in my pockets.”
Gale shifted as a sudden warmth bloomed through him from the point of contact where Astarion was touching him. He wasn’t really looking to get away from the vampire, just reacting to the sudden sensation.
“Alright, enough with the shiny toy,” Tav said as she walked around the other side of the desk. She shook her head, a small smile playing across her lips. “Anyway, I’m sure whatever letter was meant to arrive with it will turn up tomorrow.”
Gale only half heard her, instead focused on the warmth as it crawled down his chest. After a moment a few of those words penetrated his reverie. “Wait, you mean nothing else came with this?”
The warmth was crawling concerningly close to his groin now, his cock stirring in response. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Tav shaking her head.
“The courier didn’t even wait for me to open the door,” she said with a laugh, “probably in too much of a rush to get to the…”
She trailed off no doubt in reaction to the look on Gale’s face. Abruptly he tossed down the necklace.
“Careful,” Astarion cried out in dismay.
Gale had hoped with the loss of contact that the magic would release its hold on him. He’d never been that lucky before so he wasn’t sure why he’d though he would be now. Instead whatever magical aphrodisiac was on that thing only continued to crawl across his skin, cock becoming harder.
“Love,” He said pushing away from his desk. Not for the first time he was thankful that he still wore his robes daily out of habit. His unfortunate predicament was, for the moment, shielded from the others. “Are you absolutely sure there was nothing else?” He wasn’t above hoping for a miracle.
Tav shook her head, a frown forming on her lips. “There wasn’t.”
Gale opened his mouth to throw a caustic reproach at her but immediately thought better of it. This wasn’t her fault, after all he really did regularly receive strange packages at his door. It was his for not properly handling the unknown item. He floundered a bit longer desperately searching for the right thing to say.
“Can you please come with me?” He asked walking over to Tav, carefully controlling his voice.
She nodded and took a step forward, a look of alarm was affixing itself to her face.
“Excuse us, Astarion,” Gale threw over his shoulder as he took her arm and began leading Tav from the room. He knew his voice was clipped and his steps to quick for her but he couldn’t care, not right now.
He headed straight for their bedroom, all but throwing open the door before him. He could feel her struggling to keep up, almost panting when they finally stopped just inside.
“You,” Gale began breathing in deeply hoping he could keep composure a little longer, “are the love of my life and the reason my heart beats. But did you truly hand me a package containing an unknown item without warning me?”
As soon as the words left his lips Tav wince and Gale felt immediately guilty. Whatever control he thought he had was quickly evaporating.
“How bad is it?” She asked in a tentative voice.
“In the grand scheme of things I believe I’ve had worse,” Gale told her truthfully.
She processed that and clearly came to a worrying conclusion. Which was fair given that not long ago he’d had a magical bomb planted in his chest. “But?” she asked hesitantly.
Gale froze, eyes combing her body. “You,” he began as he took a step back towards her, “how are you feeling?”
Tav paused and he could almost see her taking mental stock of everything. “I’m fine.”
“Truly?” He pressed. “You’re not warm? No racing heart? Nothing?” he asked as he took stock of his own symptoms.
She shook her head. He believed her. While her eyes were bright with concern, they were clear, her cheeks not flushed. “Gale?” she asked worriedly.
Rather than telling her Gale quickly removed his robe. Given how hard he was he knew the problem would be immediately evident. He was right. Tav’s eyes dropped to his groin before going as wide as saucers.
“Oh,” was all she managed.
“Quite,” Gale agreed, “I do believe it was intended for the reluctant bride.”
“And you’re positive it’s not just…” For the second time tonight Tav trailed off from whatever she saw on his face. “Well, it had to be asked,” she said with a sheepish shrug.
“I assure you this is quite magical in nature,” Gale bit out unable to hide his exasperation. The magic was still crawling all over his skin and the room was becoming warm.
Tav nodded with a determined look in her eyes. “At least this I can help you with.”
“Gale,” Tav whined in a voice which told him she was at her end. Her face was still buried in the pillows.
It was sometime later. Gale had lost track of time a while ago but, as he glance out the window, it was still night.
Currently he was leaning over her back, cock still unbearably hard inside her. “I know, love, I know,” he tried to reassure her.
He pressed a kiss between her shoulder blades as he withdrew. She whimpered and the part of Gale’s mind that wasn’t being driven towards madness immediately felt a weight of guilt settle on his shoulders.
Tav was collapsed forward onto the bed, hips still propped up as they rested on a pillow he’d tucked under her when they’d moved into that position. They had tried everything. She sucked him for an admirably long time, swatting his hand away the first time he’d try to pull her off. Then they’d fucked for what seemed like forever, Gale working diligently to try and make it as pleasurable for her as possible. Then she they’d tried her hand until it was obvious that it wouldn’t work. She offered her sweet cunt up to him once more and he’d tried so hard to make it happen.
It just wouldn’t.
Not that he didn’t find most of it pleasurable. No, instead whatever curse was crawling about his body simply wasn’t letting him come. It was holding him in a horrible state of painful arousal. At some point he’d also realized he was growing feverish, concerningly so when Tav skin had begun to feel cool against his.
“I’ll freeze a rag for you,” Gale told her as he crawled off the bed.
He made his way over to a basin of water, quickly he used a cloth they had sitting there and cleaned him self up before dunking a new clean rag that was left there. He mumbled a spell, grateful when the cloth froze over. At least the curse hadn’t stolen his magic yet.
“I can’t,” Tav said as he turned. Her voice trembled, no doubt she was on the verge of tears.
Gale felt so incredibly guilty.
“Shhh,” he soothed as he approached her. Carefully he rolled her over and off the pillow. Sure enough, there were tears clinging to her lashes despite how valiantly she fought them.
“I know,” he assured her gently pressing the frozen rag between her legs, she was tired enough she only started a little. “I know,” he repeated, “you were so good.”
He was at a loss now as to what to do.
If the necklace had been meant to curse a reluctant bride on her wedding night, surely its aim wouldn’t be to kill her. There had be some component Gale was missing. Something he’d overlooked. He was concerned though, that if he didn’t figure it out soon, he really might die from this.
A knock at the door startled him from his thoughts.
Carefully, Gale tossed a sheet over Tav and grabbed one of the other blankets from the floor, wrapping it around his waist. He knew exactly who it was at the door, there was only one other person in the tower tonight. Normally, he would have much higher reservations about answering Astarion half-naked, but right now he couldn’t be bothered to care. Hell, the blanket around him was for the other man’s benefit, not his.
Gale flung open the door working very hard to tamp down the anger that was welling inside of him.
“Oh,” Astarion said breathily, “did it work?”
Gale physically had to shake himself at the strange question but a very quick glance at the vampire told him everything.
Astarion was flushed, cheeks a shade of pink Gale wasn’t sure a vampire could normally achieve. He was near panting as he leaned on the door frame, eyes clouded as he looked at Gale. Perhaps the most damning evidence was the fact that the other man’s cock was straining against the front of his trousers, the laces still undone.
“It did not,” Gale said wearily and turning from the door.
As he expected, Astarion followed him in.
“Astarion?” Tav sat up in bed, her sheet also pooling around her waist.
“Damn,” the vampire cursed not even remotely distracted by Tav’s naked chest, “I was hoping it had something to do with needing another person.
“Oh no,” Tav breathed as she too realized the extent of the situation.
Gale all but threw himself to sitting on the end of the bed. “As you can see, it does not.”
He wanted to be relieved that someone else was suffering as he was. Except he couldn’t find it in himself. Instead, he only felt pity, both for he and Astarion
“Shit,” Astarion cursed similarly throwing himself onto the end of the bed.
Normally Gale would have been irritated by his presumption that he was that welcome in his room. This time, though, he was too tired, too concerned, too focused on the point where Astarion’s knee butted against his.
An uncomfortable realization began dawning.
The point of contact, even through two layers of fabric, was radiating a cool calmness. It was not unlike applying a salve to a burn. It was dissimilar to any sensation he’d had while touching Tav.
“Is there a second amulet maybe,” Tav suggested behind him her voice more steady than before, slowly regaining herself.
“No,” Gale said before standing and taking a step away from Astarion. The sensation vanished as soon as he did. “No, no, no, no,” Gale repeated retreating further away to the other side of the room.
The resigned look on Astarion’s face told him that he hadn’t missed that detail.
“Oh dear,” the vampire sighed.
“What’s wrong?” Tav sounded utterly confused but Gale was focused on getting as far away from Astarion as he could in the confines of this room.
“Gale…” Astarion’s voice was filled with trepidation.
“No,” he shook his head, his back had hit the wall furthest across the room from the bed.
“Gale?” Tav called to him, concern evident in her voice.
“I believe we’ve found our solution,” Astarion told her and Gale could hear him standing. “Maybe because we both touched it and you didn’t,” the vampire continued to Tav though his voice was growing closer to Gale.
“Absolutely not,” Gale spat, finally looking up from where his eyes had glued to the floor.
It was a mistake, of course. Astarion was approaching him slowly, hands held out slightly as if trying not to startle an animal. The look on his face, in his eyes, was so uncommon it knocked the wind out of Gale. He looked… sorry?
Beyond Astarion comprehension was dawning across Tav’s beautiful face. Her eyes met his and he saw a myriad of emotions there. Many of which matched Astarion’s, matched his own. Above all he saw a layer of guilt in the way her shoulders dragged, no doubt truly blaming herself.
Astarion was in front of him now, close enough to touch but mercifully wasn’t. Gale ignored how his fingers twitched with the desire to reach out to the other man. “You’re burning up,” Astarion tried to reason, “I can smell just how hot your blood is. Any higher and your brain is going to cook.”
“No,” Gale all but shouted, “I will not have some trinket force me into doing this, not with you.”

Inspiration: Like Real People Do by Hozier.
Summary: Your life was spinning out of control, you knew that. After a string of particularly shattering events, you decided it was time to start anew. With a little help from one of your Grandma's rentals, you found yourself in the small town of Alexandria. The last thing you expected was your neighbor, Rick Grimes.
TWS: starting over, swearing, and identity crisis.
[[A/N Baby Jude!!! Still sweet as candy, so all my angsty girlies, I am sorry. Also I may have made the Grandma too southern that is my fault, it is all I know. So enjoy your newly southern Grandma. Thanks for reading!!! ]]
Tumblr media
"Grandma," you ushered out -gathering up your stacks of paperwork, "-I'm fine! Really."
She seemed to pause for a moment, saying with a tone you knew well -disbelief, "Sure, you are."
"It's not-" you stopped messing with papers -standing to lean against your wall, diagonal to the window, "-not healed by any means. I'm just... I'm working on it."
Your Grandma sighed, a deep one that let you know you had won, "I suppose that's all I can ask of you, Y/N."
You opened your mouth to respond, but your eyes caught on the window -stalling the words falling from your mouth. From this angle you could see into his, Rick's, front yard, it was trimmed well -only overgrown tastefully, so it didn't look like a suburb.
But along the grass and the few little flowers, was Rick himself. He was crouched over, talking to someone -you thought you could see the peek of blonde curly hair (teeny tiny curls) just to his side. His voice was quiet, you couldn't quite make it out but you could still hear it.
Without a second wasted, Rick launched forward and picked up the little girl -laughter squealing into the air. His daughter. She was still obstructed, as he spun her around and her laughter grew but something in your stomach warmed at the sight.
You smiled.
"Y/N? Did you hear me?"
You startled, swallowing and turning away from the window -trying to level your voice, "Sorry, what? I... I thought I saw a raccoon."
Ogling your (probably married) neighbor! You were so better than that-
"Right," she responded, slowly as if she was suspicious -she always was, "-well, I was asking how the town was treating you. I phoned everyone I knew and told them to be nice to you, you know-"
"You didn't have to," you spoke, adjusting the papers spread across the table -they were somewhat organized, at least to you, "-but everyone has been very kind."
"Good," she spoke -rather pointed, like if you had answered differently she probably would've made some phone calls, "-did you see your neighbor? Rick?"
"Uh..." you started, stiffening, "-yeah. He helped me move in, he's really nice. Why?"
"Quite handsome, no?"
"Grandma!" you hissed out, a playful smile on your lips -she was always so involved in your love life, "-Please, he's probably married-"
"Divorced," she corrected, quickly.
"Sorry?" you asked, a bit dumbfounded, "-You haven't been here in years! How would you...?"
"I have my sources," she responded, rather unbothered -you never knew what to expect from her really.
And you thought, she actually probably did.
You felt eyes on you near constantly when you wandered around the town square. Someone must have seen you speak to Rick the past few days and told her, you thought to yourself, she was sneaky enough to do it.
"Right," you pursed your lips, "-listen, Grandma, I have to get some lesson plans done or my first year of teaching will be a disaster-"
"Hardly," she chuckled, "-you are going to be perfect, it's what you're meant to do, Y/N."
You smiled, a sort of fuzzy fondness draping over your heart -she always spoke so highly of you. Even when...
Your mind wandered too far, as you asked the question before you could even think about it, "Have you... Have you heard from him?"
Your Grandma was silent for a moment, you nearly took it back because of it, "'Just when he dropped off some of your things a couple weeks ago. Pops almost pushed him down the stairs when he did, and I just might've let 'em-"
"Grandma!"
"I didn't, I didn't," she corrected, voice light as she laughed, "-just had a few choice words with 'im, that's all."
It was what you had expected, really; she was the type to be fiercely loyal to her grandkids. There were some things you couldn't stop. That was one of them.
"Love you," you cheered, voice bordering on a sort of solemn tone -it always did when... when he was brought up. You couldn't help it.
She echoed back, playful, "Love you too, call me when you can, alright? Don't leave an old lady worryin'."
"Yeah, yeah," you laughed, "-goodbye Grandma."
"Goodbye, sweetie."
You let out a long sigh -eyes laid gently upon your paperwork scattered across the table, it was somewhat organized. Not to a passerby, but to you. A stack of syllabuses to send home with the kids -for parents to look at, colorful posters to hang up on your classroom walls, and the others an assortment of paperwork prepped for things -supply lists, sick notes, parent teacher conferences.
It was a mess, but a mess you understood.
Beginning to put away folders, sorting things as you did so, you stalled in place by a knock on your door.
Realistically, you should've ignored it and kept sorting -the starting date only roamed closer and you were honestly anything but prepared. Seriously, anything. But, you didn't.
At the mere idea of escaping your paper nightmare, you jumped at the opportunity. Easily make your way to the door so quickly that you are sure papers must've shuffled from the movement -future you's problem.
When you swung open your door, you somehow hadn't expected Rick. Despite the fact he was just outside and your neighbor, you had not imagined anything could drag him away from his kid time. He didn't seem the type anyway, you could tell when a parent cared. And what you had even less expected was his daughter, proudly beaming at you with a toothy sort of grin, blonde curls a mess on top of her head -a charmer, you could tell.
"Hi," you spoke, a little in disbelief, "-Rick, and um...?"
Rick opened his mouth, but his daughter spoke for herself -the sort of barely English babble that toddlers sounded like, something like '-dee' at the end. You could only tell it was two syllables by the way her mouth moved.
"Judy," Rick quickly intercepted, "-her name is Judith."
"Oh," you smiled, before crouching slightly to meet her eyes better -you worked with kids so much, you missed this, "-well, Judith is a very pretty name. Would you like to know my name, Miss Judith?"
She grinned, little teeth spotted in her mouth along her gums -so young, and nodded succinctly -confident.
"Y/N," you hummed with the smallest of a smile, "-I'm Mx. Y/N."
Slowly, you gathered yourself and stood back up, smiling. You honestly weren't sure just who you were smiling at.
Rick stood tall, clothes a little worn like he'd been working -it was midday, and most farmers got most things done in the mornings. His shirt was plain, stained slightly from the grass, and his hair a bit askew -stray curl dipping along his forehead. His beard stayed much the same, bushy, and a misplaced thought of what it felt like dangled in your mind for longer than it should have.
"What brings you to visit?" you asked, finally speaking.
He straightened slightly, sliding a hand to rub at the back of his neck -nervous, maybe?- and blue eyes flickering between your own, "Right, 'hope we ain't bothering ya-"
"Oh, no," you responded, "-I was struggling with some paperwork, honestly you saved me."
"Good to kno'," he smirked, a crinkly sort of smile, "-I just. Since y'er new 'round town, I wanted to invite ya to dinner."
"Dinner?"
"I make dinner for a bunch of the town's people," he clarified, and something in you was a little disappointed, "-it's kinda an irregular thang, but I've sent one up for the day after tomorrow. Back to school thing this time around."
"Oh," you echoed, softly.
"You don't have'ta," he muttered out -low and gravelly, "-but I wanted to offer. 'Might help ya get used to the town."
"As long as I'm not intruding," you spoke -almost on instinct.
"I invited you," Rick responded, laughing lightly, "-plus, it's custom f'er newcomers."
"Okay," you grinned, tilting your head slightly, "-yeah, I'll come. I think I need some socialization anyway. Apart from..." You, your mind finished.
"Alright," he grinned, and something in your chest warmed -you ignored it, "-it'll be around 6, but feel free to come 'round earlier. I can introduce you to some people if ya want."
"And if I just stick around you the whole time? What then?" you teased with playful ease.
He paused for a moment, seeming to think on it. Before he settled, smiling widely with the crinkles by his eyes -pleased with himself.
"I wouldn't say that was an issue, Mx. Y/N."
Your heart thumped against your ribs, something sparking deep in your chest and you neatly clamped it down. Not now. You ignored it, even as the bubble of warmth warmed your chest and the smile stuck in your mind long after he left.
Until then, you thought to yourself that night -looking up at the ceiling, eager, -Mr. Grimes.

hey i was wondering how would the main 6 react/deal with an mc who can be a half dragon form like this one https://www.pinterest.ph/pin/34480753384518754/
(p.s ever since you popped in my "for you" I've been following your blog and your head canons are very good :) )
The Arcana HCs: M6 with a half dragon MC
~ thanks for the love anon, and here are your headcanons! I'm sorry if it took a while, I work through requests in the order they come in and I'm still figuring out how to do that without getting overwhelmed lol
Enjoy! - brainrot ~
The picture in question:
Tumblr media
Julian
The first time he sees you take this form is after you've had a few drinks with him and the wrong person ticks you off
Three different parts of his brain are having three very different responses all at once and he doesn't know which one to listen to
Julian.exe has stopped responding
The drunk part of him doesn't even know what's real anymore, is that actually you?
The doctor part of him is fascinated, how does that work? Why is it coming out now? Why didn't it come out some other time? Is it voluntary?
The third part of his brain, the one that's flustered by you 24/7, is very confused. He knows he's attracted to this, but he has no idea why and he's not sure he's ready to reflect on what that says about him
He will very respectfully request that you do this again, when he is sober, and he can have all his questions answered
Asra
They have a snake familiar, this just confirms your status as Faust's other best friend
His biggest weakness (after you) is new and unconventional things, and it shows
Can you use your wing as a bellows? How much more strength do you gain with that talon arm? Is it strong enough to open the jar of kool-aid pickled garlic they bought the other day and still can't get open?
Very excited to see what magic he can teach you/you can develop using it
If you cast a spell with your wing can you aim it at an object farther away?
The stove salamander adores you
Will ask you to volunteer to try something to double check if it's safe for Faust
"MC, there you are. I made something to help Faust shed her skin but I need you to see if I made it too strong."
This has gone horribly wrong once or twice
Nadia
Oh my
She's not sure exactly what this is, but she's into it
First things first though, what unique circumstances lead to this and how best may she love you with that in mind?
Is it inherited or developed? Did you steal it from a mighty beast after defeating it in battle? What other secrets are you hiding?
Does the skin need any special products? Would you like anything added to your diet?
She's already got a mental sketchbook pulled up in her mind's eye to plan an outfit that would not only accommodate the physical shift but accentuate your striking appearance
She commissions a piece of jewelry to wear on your horn that matches her hair pieces
She will ask if she can kiss the affected side of your face, because she's curious about what it feels like
She would also like to know if you can fly in that form, and if so, if you can take her flying with you and Chandra
Muriel
He's not that shocked, he lives in the woods, he's seen weirder
But having observed wildlife for so long, he is now very intent on observing you too
Your form is dragonlike, do you have reptilian traits? Does it affect your body language? Are you able to speed up and slow down your metabolism and experience of time at will by adjusting your temperature?
He will begin acting on the conclusions he draws. Dragons hoard treasure, so he starts bringing you little gifts to see what you do with them
You received them from him, so you're not going to throw them out
Now there's a growing pile of pretty rocks and leaves and carvings in the hut
But he never sees you act protective of the collection, he knows you smile when you look at it, but aren't you supposed to sleep curled around the thing you consider your treasure?
You don't sleep with your things, you sleep snuggled up to him - oh. Oh.
Portia
She first sees this form come out on an ambassador trip, when an extremist group in the country you're visiting makes an assassination attempt
It's a pitiful attempt, really, she could've easily beaten them without any help at all
But there was an archer involved who let an arrow loose just before they were tackled by a pile of guards, and hey, that's the woman you love
Next thing she knows she's being held firmly against your human side, the armored dragon half on full display between her and her attacker as the arrows bounce harmlessly off
She is both intimidated and impressed
Now whenever you're in that form next to her she'll be walking around with her cheeks puffed out in pride
Because yeah, that's MC, that super badass dragon person is all hers, that's her best friend, that's her bullet proof sweetheart
Lucio
He doesn't want to admit it, but he's kind of jealous
He thought he was the coolest with his clawed golden gauntlet, and here you are with half your body covered in scaly armor
He really, really wants to spar with you in that form now
Initially it's because he needs to prove to himself that he'll be able to win against you and maintain his status as the strength to your brains
But once he gets you to agree all he can do is admire you
As a natural-born fighter himself, he's drawn to anything that shares that nature with him, and yours is on full display like this
The way you're able to use your wing both offensively and defensively, the way your talons act as extra blades, the way the horned side of your face glares back at him
He's in love, he's so in love
He keeps getting distracted and messing up, so you let him call it a tie since you didn't really want to fight him in the first place
He can and will bring it up in every conversation he has, regardless of who it's with and what the context is

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nesta slapped him the moment the door shut to her chambers. She went to slap him again but he grabbed her wrist. His hard amber gaze would have made her wither if she wasn’t so livid.
“I will take the first one, but you will not hit me again.” He lowered her arm and let go. His expression unchanged like he was carved from stone.
That didn’t damper the rage inside her. “Beron planned to turn me over to Briallyn.”
“I would not have brought you here if I thought it was a possibility.” He walked towards the wall of shelves.
“How do you know he won’t change his mind?”
“I told him a week ago you accepted my proposal.” He stopped and looked back at Nesta with a smirk. “He would not have allowed us to spend money on a wedding that wouldn’t happen.”
Nesta tilted her head, her voice was a hiss as she spoke through clenched teeth. “You told him I accepted a week ago?”
Eris shrugged, perfect picture of nonchalance. “You said yourself Rhysand was looking for a reason to get rid of you. So I took a risk. It obviously paid off.” He cut his eyes to her, a smirk still gracing his lips. “You are much more cunning than they give you credit for. You did a very good job of mixing lies with truth. Even I was almost convinced.”
He turned and narrowed his gaze at the empty fireplace. He threw flames into it and she waited for them to start crackling and popping. The noise never came. Eris placed his hands behind his back and turned to her again. He slowly walked back towards her, eying her over again.
“How do your powers work?”
“I don’t know.” She looked away, shame washing over her for a reason she couldn’t place.
“They haven’t been training you?” She looked back to see him frowning.
Nesta shook her head. “I trained in physical combat. That’s what they wanted and I didn’t argue. I don’t want to use my magic.”
Eris was quiet for a moment, staring at her but not seeming to actually see her. He sighed.
“After the wedding, we start training with your magic. You’re not much used to me if you can’t actually control it.”
“Seems like a poor decision on your part. Buying a cow without knowing if it produces milk.”
Despite her sharp tongue, she felt the heat of embarrassment crawl up her neck. Not being able to control her powers made her feel weak. But having to actually control them instead of simply burying them? That scared her more than she wanted to admit.
“You showed in that throne room you have powers. I knew exactly what I was getting when I first asked for your hand in Hewn City. It is no fault of your own Rhys was too scared to have you trained.” He looked down his nose at her. “Referring to yourself as a cow doesn’t become you.”
Her face flushed at the realization of what she said. He acted as if he had the sudden need to adjust the cuff of his jacket. He continued, ignoring her reaction.
“Are there any questions before dinner?” He paused. “Or complaints?”
She crossed her arms. The meeting with Beron in the throne room was quick and simple. She was introduced to each family member and she prayed to whatever gods still listened that she could remember the brothers names. She only remembered Asher and even he looked less than friendly.
“Am I really able to trust your brother? The stocky one?”
Eris said simply. “We have an arrangement. If he so much as sneers in your direction, he will suffer the consequences.”
“What kind of arrangement?”
“Nothing you need to worry about.”
She studied Eris trying to figure out what he could have on his brother that would make him fall in line so easily when all she ever heard was how vicious they were.
“His wife, she isn’t from here.”
“Observant.” He could have rolled his eyes for how sarcastically he said it. “ Anything else?”
“Where is she from?” Nesta narrowed her gaze.
“She’s from Spring. Her uncle is a Lord in the western part of Autumn. He offered her up when father requested a list of eligible females to marry off Asher.”
“Why choose her?”
It didn’t make sense to Nesta. After what she’d seen, Spring was of use to no one. Autumn Court for all its appearances, seemed to prioritize gain above all else. That is what made this very scheme work in first place
“Probably because she was the only one who still had her maidenhead.” Nesta instantly balked but Eris continued. “She admitted to knowing Lucien while in Spring like an idiot. What better way to punish him further than to have his friend marry one of the brothers that forced him to watch his betrothed be beheaded.”
Nesta’s mouth gaped open slightly. There was so much information to process. “Lucien was betrothed?”
“Centuries ago. The fool fell in love with a lesser fae.” Eris shot her a stern look. “You will not speak of him after today, understood? Anything else?”
“She was beheaded?” He nodded and her stomach churned. Disgust etched into her features. “And you let it happen just because she was lesser?”
“I could only save one of them and I chose my brother.” Actual anger flashed in his eyes, heat filling the air between them. “I paid for it greatly. You have to pick your battles even if they come at a cost.”
Then he blinked and seemed to come back to himself. She almost felt like he looked at her with regret.
He added in a softer tone. “My father is cruel. You do things you normally wouldn’t to survive.”
That did not set her at ease. “And you felt it was wise to bring me here?”
“That was a call your High Lord made. Rather quickly, I might add.” He raised a brow and narrowed his gaze. “What did you do to Rhys that would make him give you up so quickly?”
“I gained his ire by making it out of the cauldron alive.” She gave him a withered look. “I am certain deep down he hopes I die in this court.”
He stared at her for a moment, then scoffed. She swore there was a flash of a grin on his face. Eris immediately cleared his throat and he slipped right back into his previous cold demeanor.
“We both know there is to be only one death in this court, and it will not be yours.” He paused as if collecting his thoughts. “That reminds me there are more unspoken rules I should share before dinner.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nesta could hardly stomach dinner.
Being back around the other Vanserras put her on edge. She was seated to Eris’s left and Eris to his father’s left at the head of the table. Even with Eris between them, she was too close to Beron for her comfort. Beside her was Piran, if she remembered correctly. Eris explained the seating before they left her room. Explained how once Beron and his mother walked in, they were to stand until Beron seated her and then himself. He added neither of them could leave until after Beron left unless formally dismissed.
It did not help that it felt like they were all watching her. Especially the brother across from her, Cillian. He was the only one of the brothers that had more brown than red in his hair. It was cut shorter and slicked back. She looked up once to see him staring at her but his eyes were not on her face. She kept her head down after that. The other issue was the wine. She pretended to drink and prayed no one noticed her glass not emptying. She would have to humble herself later and ask Eris to have her served only water.
The food was thankfully not terrible. Completely different from the Night Court’s; more root vegetables and milder on the tongue. A type of bird for meat. She’d never admit this single dish was better than anything her sister and the half-wraiths could cook up. The dining room itself was beautiful. Eris mentioned it was the formal one; they met once a week in this room and other times the Vanserra’s were free to dine where they liked.
She made a point to stare at the cloth on the table while the maids in golden linen dresses and blood red aprons went about refilling wine glasses. The table cloth was thick, ivory white and gold stitching. The runner in the center was blue, similar to what everyone was wearing. She wondered if it always matched and if so, what a waste of money it was to constantly replace the runner just for the sake of a family dinner. She was so lost in her thoughts, ignoring conversation around her that she started when she felt Eris’s foot hit her own under the table.
“Nesta.” She lifted her head and her gaze met Eris’s. He was glaring at her. “Celeste asked you a question.”
“I’m sorry.” Apologies fell from her lips easier than she liked. She scanned the table and further down her eyes met striking blue. “Would you mind repeating the question? I didn’t quite hear it.”
Cillian snorted. “Just like a female to not listen. Are you as dumb as your sister? I heard the High Lord of Night taught her to spell with his tongue. Did he teach you how to spell too? With his head between your legs?”
Nesta was too taken aback to respond. Eris however, was out of his seat immediately. In a blink he was on the other side of the table, yanking Cillian by his hair with a knife to his throat.
“Apologize to my wife or I will cut out your tongue through your throat.”
“She isn’t your wife yet.” He hissed back.
“Cillian,” Beron spoke up as if he was chastising a child. His tone did darken as he added, “Apologize. I have already told you once before to not be crude in front of your mother.”
“My apologies, Mother.” He sneered and Eris seemed to tug his head again. “And Lady Nesta.”
The Lady of Autumn picked food from her plate as if nothing was happening. “I accept your apology dear.”
“Eris, sit down.” Beron grumbled.
Eris made a point of throwing Cillian’s head forward narrowly missing shoving it into his plate. Unlike before Eris made a slow walk around the table. Nesta was certain her mouth was gaped still.
A moment passed and Celeste cleared her throat. “I was asking if you were excited. For the wedding considering your family won’t be present.”
“Yes, I am.” She replied automatically, lies quickly falling from her tongue without thought. “My sister is with child. Which is why they will not be joining us.” She cut her eyes to Cillian, hoping he saw the promise of death in them if he commented again. “One can never be too careful during pregnancy. Children are a blessing.”
“Indeed they are.” Celeste replied quickly before looking down at her plate.
“Celeste is pregnant,” Piran spoke up beside her. Nesta tried to not scowl at how he spoke around his food. He nudged her with his elbow. “Vanserra’s are fertile. Better watch it if you want to enjoy your honeymoon period or you’ll end up like them.”
“Piran,” Eris practically growled. She didn’t dare look over at him.
“You’ll have to forgive my boys, Lady Nesta.” Beron’s voice was like a low rumble that struck fear down her spine. “They seem to forget the concept of manners. Do I need to remind you both how to behave in front of guests or is a warning enough?”
She could feel Piran stiffen beside her. Cillian’s face paled. The silence at the table made her hair stand on end. Something unspoken laid between them all. It reminded her of when everyone but Feyre knew about the complications, only worse. This was a heaviness she hoped to never be subjected to again.
”Speaking of guests,” Beron broke the silence as if it had never happened. “The Lords from the territories will arrive in the morning. I expect the two of you,” His eyes shifted between Piran and Cillian, “To greet them.”
“Yes sir,” they both muttered.
Nesta was shocked when the Lady of Autumn spoke up, looking at her directly. “Your dress will be fitted in the morning. It’s a shame your previous High Lord wouldn’t allow you to come for it prior.”
”He does like to cause as much trouble as he can,” Nesta replied. “I look forward to the fitting.
“I think it would be best if we retire,” Eris spoke up. Nesta cut her eyes to him but he was looking at his father. “It will be a long day tomorrow.”
Beron considered it for a moment. “You’re dismissed. All of you are dismissed. Except for Piran and Cillian. I need to speak with them about the Lords and Governors. Before we retire for the evening.”
Nesta felt in her soul that wasn’t the truth.
Not with the way everyone stood on cue, and Eris coming to pull her chair out from the table quickly. She kept her composure, back stiff and head held high when Eris offered her his arm. Neither of them spoke all the way back to their chambers. It was only when he stopped at her door, he seemed to relax.
“Your maids will wake you in the morning.” He stepped back from her and straightened his jacket. He didn’t look her in the eyes. “I will not see you until the ceremony.”
”Eris, what-“
His eyes cut to her and she stopped speaking. It shocked her to see his amber eyes pleading with an air of something she couldn’t put her finger on.
”Do not ask questions. Not here.” He whispered. “Go to bed and try to rest.”
She nodded and bid him good night. As she readied herself for bed, the uneasiness from dinner did not leave her. What the deep hells had Rhys got her involved in? She stared at the door from her bed, hoping against hope that Cassian would barge in and fly her away back to Night. Like the heroes in her novels would when their love was in danger. Cassian was supposed to be a hero. He was supposed to be her hero.
She finally fell asleep dreaming of red; glowing stones morphing into flaming red hair.
Shy Girl | Peter Parker x Reader
Third person pov.
Requested by @z-iridest
3.4 k words. One shot. I definitely could see me writing more lol.
ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
The final bell of school was about to roll on Monday. This wasn’t your average monday. It was the day a big news story was going to break and the nerves inside Peter Parker were building up.
“Alright everybody it’s the last week of school so listen up.” Mr. Harrington said in his usual anxious drol. “We have a lot to get through as you’re going to be seniors next year. That means more training, more studying, and more mental dexterity.”
No one was listening. A quiet roar of excited young minds sharing their summer plans drowned out the nearly useless info he was producing.
“Excuse me,” he said a little louder to possibly break through the chatter. “Don’t you guys care about my plans to hold up your brain prowess over the summer?”
“If I’m being honest, no.” Flash Thompson, the alternate for the team who rarely ever came to meetings spoke up. Everyone listened. Everyone except for Peter who was enthralled in a diagram he was making to keep his thoughts in order. There was too much he needed to do by the end of the week to make sure everything was covered for a full summer of crime saving. “We’re all busy worrying about what we actually give a shit about.”
“And what would that be Mr. Thompson?” The teacher asked, though plainly uninterested.
“The massive summer kickoff pool party I’m throwing this Saturday at my mansion!” He said to many cheers and applause of favor. Flash crossed his arms and nodded his head, a smug look of accomplishment across his face.
“Now that’s fine and all but we really need to be focusing on how you guys are going to-“ Mr. Harrington started to rebuff but a knock on the open door stopped him mid sentence.
“Um, Mr. Harrington?” A woman’s voice called from the doorway.
“Yes?” He responded as all the kids turned their heads toward the door.
“I know this is incredibly last minute but we have a new student at Midtown and even though the decathlon season is over, we’d like her to join now so she can feel nice and welcome come next semester.” The administrator spoke.
“Yes, that's fine.” Mr. Harrington said, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.
The female administrator closed the door, leaving the students to their chatter.
“Now- Flash don’t you think there are more important things to worry about than some party you won’t remember in 20 years?” Mr. Harrington posed to his most ruthless student.
“It’s okay Mr. Harrington, you don’t have to be sad that you were never invited to parties when you were in high school.” Flash responded to a gasp and a chuckle from the crowd.
Peter couldn’t have been more uninterested. Mind wrapped up in a web of tangled thoughts and nerves and worry. 17 years old and on top of the world. He died and was brought back after half of the planet disappeared. He made a hundred powerful friends and made the news a million times. Well, not him necessarily but he was still doing really well for himself. High grades, and life was pretty easy when Happy was in charge of him considering the man was so busy running Tony Stark's estate. A deep sadness hung over Peter though. Not only had so many great things happened, many terrible and heart wrenching things had as well. He felt a sharp heat start to prick the back of his neck.
“Im gonna go to the bathroom.” He said curtly as he stood quickly from the table to walk out of the room. He stopped just a little down the hallway, not even 20 feet from the classroom he was just in.
His breathing started to quicken. Sweat beads popped up on his forehead. His fists clenched at his sides. Maybe it was too much. He wasn’t even a legal adult and yet it was like the whole world was in his shoulders. And there didn’t seem to be single person who could possibly help lift it for him.
Peter closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Two. His shoulders relaxed. Three breaths and his fists unfurled. Four and the color returned to his face.
When he turned on his heel to head back to the room, he opened his eyes and saw a girl standing across the hall. He felt a shiver down his spine and his eyes went wide. The red returned to his face, but the color of embarrassment.
She met his gaze with wide eyes of her own. A hard pink blush bloomed over her cheeks for being caught. She had watched him leave the room and calm down. She looked down quickly.
“Been there long-?” He asked her. She nodded. “That’s embarrassing.”
“Don’t be embarrassed-“ she said quickly, still gazing at the floor. “I was doing the same thing.”
“What?” He asked, confused. “You were out here taking deep breaths so you didn’t freak out in front of everyone you know?”
“Not exactly.” She moved her foot to twiddle with a spare pencil on the ground. “I was taking deep breaths though.”
“Why?” Genuinely, Peter wanted to know.
“Well, I’m a new student during the last week of school and I’ve had an awkward day of being introduced to people who are already fully over the school year so they haven’t really cared about being super friendly.” She said glancing up at him.
“I care-“ Peter blurted out. She let out a soft burst of a laugh. “I mean. I care that you’re having a hard time. I’ve lived here my whole life so I don’t really have that problem, but I definitely know how you feel.”
“You do?” She asked, fully meeting his gaze.
“Yeah,” he smiled at her.
For a moment it was just the two of them standing in the hallway, looking into each others eyes. A silent understanding of emotion holding all of the space between them.
“Do you need help finding your class or something?” He offered.
“Ummm… not really. I was supposed to go into the room you came out of for another introduction but I couldn’t do it.” She looked away, at some student made poster celebrating the end of the school year. Peter looked over her with a soft gaze. She could feel his eyes tracing over her. “It was making me a little anxious.”
“Right-“ he stopped his eyes from wandering and placed a hand on the back of his neck. “Oh! You’re the new student!”
“Yeah.” She chuckled nervously. “That’s me.”
“I’m Peter.” He said offering the hand on the back of his neck to her.
She crossed the hallway and met his gaze. Peter’s eyes fluttered as her perfume filled his senses. Her skin looked soft and her hair was fluffed. Eyes a little red. Possibly from crying, he thought. When she took his hand he felt another shiver up his spine.
“I’m (y/n).” She smiled. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too.” They dropped hands and immediately his hand felt cold again.
“We should probably head in.” She said ducking her head toward the classroom. Peter didn’t move his eyes from her. Something was different about her. Something gentle and soft. She reminded him of a doe. Delicate and stuck in the middle of the street. His weakness. “Peter?”
“Oh, yeah. We should.” He didn’t make a move to the room though. He couldn’t. This was the first time in months that he felt his mind quiet down.
For a silent beat they locked eyes once more. There was a tenderness to it. Sharing a moment of vulnerability with a complete stranger wasn’t common for most people, but Peter had had his fair share. This was different though, because she couldn’t see Spider-Man. She couldn’t see any of it. She only saw Peter. Midtown student and anxious student.
The bell rang, unleashing them from their gaze and the students from their rooms. As the doors flew open, endless conversations erupted into the hall, filling their warm silence.
Mr. Harrington and Flash hadn’t finished their debate about partying as they headed Peters way down the hall.
“Oh! Mr. Parker!” Mr. Harrington smiled. “You must’ve found our new student!”
“Come on now Porker, you didn’t think you could call dibs before anyone even saw her, did you?”
Flash said as he pulled Peter into a tight Noogie.
Peter shoved him with a little extra strength, making Flash clash just enough with Mr. Harrington to knock his glasses off his face. Students walking by trampled right over them. The poor broke teacher bent down and picked them up.
“It’s going to be a fun summer.” Mr. Harrington said, putting the shattered glasses back on. “See you guys Wednesday.”
With that, he was off.
“Whatever Porker.” Flash said, hurrying down the hall.
This left Peter and (y/n) alone once more. Even though it wasn’t even close to silent, when he looked at her he could only hear his own heartbeat in his ears.
“I guess that means the day’s over…” she said sheepishly.
“Y-yeah… right. Okay. Well I’ll see you Wednesday?” He asked. She nodded and started as though she would walk away. He gently pinched her elbow to stop her, which sent a shockwave from her skin to his fingertips as he did it. “Hey-“
“Y-yes?” She asked stopping close to him. So close he could feel the faintest sip of her breath on his face. She didn’t look at his eyes though. Her face was very red and he could almost hear how fast her heart was beating.
“If you need anything this week I’m here for you.” He said in earnest. When she looked into his eyes again he almost wanted to say forever, but forever was never a possibility for him.
“Th-thanks, Peter.” She said with the cutest stutter, her eyes drifting to his hand. He started to blush when he realized he was still holding her elbow. He dropped his hand and looked away. “See you around.”
“Yeah. See ya.” He said, and with that she was off.
——-
“Dude you missed Flash’s party announcement.” Peter said as he spun another web to swing on his way home from school. Ned Leeds, his best and most trusted friend, was on a video call in Peter’s mask.
“It’s not my fault my aunts came to town for the spring parade. We’re doing all the touristy stuff. I can’t tell you all the stuff I learned about the Chrysler Building today. I felt like I was in school anyway-“ Ned said making Peter grin. “Wait, since when do you care about Flash’s dumb parties? Especially after the one sophomore year?”
Peter’s eyes widened in surprised thought. Ned was right. Why did he care about the party?
“I don’t know. Other than that it was a normal day.” Peter said shaking it off
“Nah, I can tell something’s up with you. Is it about the news announcement today?” Ned asked. Peter had almost forgotten about that considering his mind was wrapped around (y/n) all day.
Peter smiled. He was glad to find out he wasn’t worrying about his usual problems. Something much more exciting had entered his life.
“Well there’s a new girl and she-“
“Dude no!” Ned said. “Leave it to you to meet someone the last week of school. I’ve been single since Betty and I broke up. Wait until college, dude. That’s where the babes will be.”
Peter laughed and shook his head as he dropped in the alley by his apartment for one. 17 and living alone. He could handle it but he had never been lonelier in his life.
“You wanna come over and play COD?” He asked as he threw his backpack in his apartment window.
“Nah, I can’t. My aunties want to go to that cafe where people scream Broadway music at you while you eat.” Ned said smacking his tongue on the top of his mouth.
“Don’t have too much fun.” Peter said jokingly.
“Oh I won’t.” Ned said making Peter chuckle to himself. “I’ll be at school tomorrow morning but I’m leaving at lunch to go see a matinee of Bye Bye Birdie.”
“On a Tuesday?” Peter asked.
“It’s a seniors only showing.” Ned responded. “With the alternate cast.”
“Good luck with that.” Peter said.
“Thanks. Honestly I think I need it more than you right now.”
“Catch ya later.” Peter said. Ned threw up a peace sign and the call was over.
Peter was about to climb inside when his spider senses started going off. Something was wrong.
He closed his window and took off out of the alley. He followed the hairs on his arms toward the feeling. He started to hear the commotion as he moved to the end of the street.
Two men were cornering a young woman by some bodega dumpsters.
“I don’t have anything-“ she said with a teary, terrified voice. “Please, just go!”
“Not gonna happen little lady.” One of the thugs said, rolling up his sleeve.
“Yeah, I see that gold watch you’re wearing. And it ain’t a fake.” The second moron said as they both moved closer to her. Her back was flush against the dumpster and Peter didn’t really have a good view of the situation. No time to waste.
He shot a web at the second thug and threw him hard against the wall of the electronics sales shop next door. (Y/n) screamed in shock.
The second thug turned and started barreling toward Peter, but Peter was faster. He threw one web at his feet, encasing them together. The thug fell flat on his face, but reached quickly into his pocket for a knife.
Peter dodged it, and as it flew by his face he shot a web and the thugs back and whipped him up and into the dumpster, hard.
At this point a small crowd had gathered to watch the spectacle. The local, and world, hero had saved another citizen of New York.
He took a step toward the girl and stopped. He recognized her. (Y/n). She was crying. Shaking. Eyes wide in fear. When he stepped toward her again she tensed up and stepped even more flush against the dumpster.
“Don’t be scared.” He said reaching a hand out. She eyed him. “I’m Spider-Man.”
She didn’t speak. Didn’t move. Fear locked her up. The doe in headlights. He wanted to rip his mask off and laugh and say “haha me again!” But he wouldn’t risk that secrets weight atop her head.
“You don’t have to be afraid.” He said softly, his hand still out-stretched. She looked at his hand and relaxed her shoulders. “You can trust me.”
“You just knocked two guys out cold in like a minute. I don’t know what you could do to me.” She said with a choked voice.
“I just saved you-“ he said surprised.
“Thank you for that, I’m just taken back. You… you really hurt them.” She looked at the man still unconscious on the ground by her feet. “He’s bleeding.”
“Yeah! I’m bleeding too!” The thug in the dumpster chimed in. Peter shook head head.
This wasn’t right. He just saved her. He just took two criminals off the map. She didn’t owe him anything, of course, but this was new.
“You’re sorry for the thugs?” He asked, dropping his hand to his side.
“Well, no…” she said, looking away. “Actually yes? Kind of? They’re still people, Spider-Man.”
“Yeah, bad people.” He said plainly.
The crowd watching were chatting amongst themselves and Peter knew he had to head out soon before the police came to investigate. And before the news bulletin came out.
“IN TODAYS NEWS!” A voice bellowed from one of the television at the electronic store. He felt every hair on his body stand straight.
“We need to go.” He said to her urging her gently with his hand stretched out to her once again. She shook her head.
“I’m not going anywhere with you.” She said matter of factly.
“SPIDER-MAN IS ANNOUNCED AS THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE AVENGERS!” The voice bellowed. The crowd standing nearby started cheering. Clapping. And closing in on Peter and (Y/n).
“You’re an avenger?” She asked, marbled eyes looking into the animated eyes of his mask. He nodded.
“Yes, now let’s go.” He said stepping toward her. The crowd moved closer to them both.
“I said im not going with y-“ she didn’t have time to finish her sentence before he webbed her hip and pulled her into his side.
Up up and away to the heights of the skyscrapers and away from the investigative crowd of adoring fans.
“What the hell!” She exclaimed as her leftover tears flew from her face as they swung through town. “PUT ME DOOOOOWN!!”
She screamed into his ear, making his grip on a web falter just a little. She gripped him tighter and as he felt her body press against his, he felt an odd mix of emotions. Annoyance for the fact that she wasn’t very happy to be near him, but solace in the fact that she didn’t know it was Peter.
But if she did? If she could know he’d just saved her life would she still have those tender eyes for him in the hallway? Would she even look at him again?
“I’ve got you.” He said in a tone so soft she felt her breath relax in her chest. “Relax.”
“How!?! I’m like 100 feet high!” She asked.
“More like 500.” He said, which made her hold him tighter. He could definitely feel her racing heart against him. “I won’t drop you.”
“You can’t tell me that!” Her eyes were closed. Closed since she lifted off of the ground.
“Feel the wind, (y/n).” She opened her eyes to stare at the masked crusader. “Enjoy the moment.”
She then felt her entire body take a deep breath. She could feel the wind on her face. The push and pull of his swinging motions. The leap of gravity as they played between the earth and the sky. She started to look around and she started to laugh.
Peter had never heard a more gleeful sound in his entire life.
“Woohoo!!” She yelled as they swung through the burough. “This is awesome!”
Peter watched where he was going most of all, but when he knew the next placement of his web, he watched her. Watched the fear fly away with the wind in her hair. He grinned at every yelp she made, every cheer. Her eyes were shining and sparkling in the light of the evening sun.
When they reached their destination, which was just around the corner from the high school, he set her down. Her legs were like jelly as she took a step. He caught her softly in his arms before she stumbled forward. This time she wasn’t afraid of his touch. She leaned into him. He could tell she could feel his warmth. His body. She wrapped her arms around him and held him. He didn’t know what to do for a second but when he wrapped his arms around her, it was like a glow covered them in their embrace.
Peter couldn’t tell if it had been a minute or ten that she held him. And she was really holding him.
“Thank you for saving me.” (Y/n) said as she pulled out of the hug. She put a large step between them. Brushed a piece of hair behind her head, and looked at the ground by his feet. “I guess I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah…” Peter said dreamily. Until he realized who he was at the moment. He straightened up and started to chuckle with a hand on the back of his neck. “Well citizen, I’ll leave you to your day.”
“Right…” she started as though to walk away but turned quickly back to him. He tensed before she stopped right in front of him and kissed him on his clothed cheek. “Thanks again, Spider-Man.”
“Oh yeah. Yeah. Don’t mention it. Haha…” he had never been more thankful for his mask in his life as he knew he had probably never had his face this red before. “Bye.”
“Bye.” She said, pulling out her phone to make a call. Probably to her parents. Or a taxi. Or the cops.
All Peter knew were the butterflies in his stomach and how he couldn’t wait until Wednesday to see (y/n) again. He was going to ask if she wanted to go to Flash’s party with her. And he hoped more than anything that she would say yes.
Ana / Reinhardt / Soldier x Trans FTM Reader
Word count: 1665
The thought had been weighing you down for months. For years have you felt that you were in the wrong body, never really fit in with the other women. Never really fit in anywhere, but being at Overwatch made you feel like you were home. Surrounded people who always had your back, whether in battle or on base recuperating for the next assignment. Overwatch was home.
Sitting there, wide awake at 3am made you wonder when the right time to say something was. Of course, keeping silent meant that everyone still referred to you by your deadname, the pronouns you had grown to hate. That wasn’t you, never had been. You hated your body, the female traits that you had grown to hate and the chest that you bound so you seemed more masculine, more like you.
You had to tell someone before it eats you alive.
Pulling off the blankets from your body, slipping into something more comfortable, you head out of your living quarters and seek one person out. One person you knew who’d be understanding no matter the circumstances, someone who would be awake at this time.
The anxiety was at an all time high as you wander the base halls. The lights flickering above you as you walk, the hum of the electricity flowing to the next light. You try to keep as calm as you could, feeling your body tremble as you near the mess hall, but all movement stopped just beside the entrance when you hear the one woman you needed to speak to laughing.
Only when another laugh roared out alongside hers did it break a smile on your face.
The woman hushed the laughing man before speaking. “Don’t be scared, come on in.”
With a slight hesitation, you enter the room, seeing both Ana and Reinhardt sitting on the sofa. They look over at you standing in the doorway.
“What ever is the matter?” Reinhardt speaks up, German accent thick and a look of concern on his face as he sees the worry in yours.
“You look absolutely petrified.” Ana remarks. She pats the space between the two of them, signaling for you to come and sit beside them. “Come, what’s on your mind, sweetie?” Her voice was so soft, you swear you could listen to her talk for hours, no matter the subject at hand.
Sitting between their bodies, you look down at your hands that were clasped together, a tight grip that made your knuckles white.
Reinhardt adjusts his position, they both did as they sat straight, looking down at you with nothing but concern.
“Is everything okay?” Reinhardt places a hand on your back, the size difference enough to make you feel smaller than you already were.
“I… I need to tell you something.” You start, your body beginning to shake once more, then the rambling begins. “I- I was only planning on telling you, Ana. I didn’t think you’d both be in here. I’m worried about what you’d think of me after I tell you, scared you might not want to work with me anymore. You two… You two have been better parents to me than my actual parents and you’re not even my parents. I consider you two to be, though, oh god I really do… I feel safe with you two…”
“What’s wrong?” Ana places her hand just beneath Reinhardts on your back. Her other hand resting on top of your hands that were shut so tight around each other that it was hurting you.
Then there was a knock at the door. “Am I intruding?”
“Jack? What are you doing up so late?” Ana turns around to see commander Morrison stood in the doorway, sleep evident in his eyes.
“You can hear Wilhelms laugh from across the base.” Jack moves his way around the room, heading straight for the coffee machine. “You know I’m a light sleeper, Amari. Besides, it’s a sleepless night for me.” His hands wrap around the mug, feeling the warmth in his palms.
“Seems like there’s a lot keeping us awake tonight.” Ana chuckles.
“What’s wrong, kid?” Jack moves to sit on the other sofa that was directly across from you. His eyes were tired, yet they were soft.
Reinhardt's hand moves on your back, rubbing up and down, soothing that anxiety almost instantly.
Now there were three of them surrounding you, but you didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. You felt safe being around those three. Ana, Reinhardt and Jack… Three soldiers who have had your back since the very first day you arrived, taken care of your wounds and made sure to bring you home safe from every bloody assignment.
Tears stream down your cheeks almost immediately. The overwhelming feeling of being safe, feeling the unconditional love from these three have finally come crashing down on you.
“Did I do something?” Jack questions, though there was a smile on his face.
“No- no. You haven’t done anything.” You laugh, wiping the tears away with the cuff of your sleeve.
“Why are you crying, dear?” Reinhardt speaks softly, hand not ceasing movement in soothing you.
“I just…” You sigh. You’re here now, there’s no going back.
All three of them are looking at you, waiting for you to speak. They don’t force you, they keep quiet. Jack sips his coffee, Ana keeps her hand on top of yours with her thumb soothing your knuckles and Reinhardt keeps rubbing your back.
It’s now or never…
You hesitate, keeping your head down. “I’m trans.”
There was a deafening silence. You felt like you couldn’t breathe, the room was starting to spin but one voice broke you out of that trance.
“What do we call you?” Ana asks.
“What…” You blink, looking up at her.
“Your name. What’s your name?” She smiles at you.
“[y/n].” You say. Your name. Not your deadname, not the name your parents so called “gifted” you with. Your name.
Ana repeats your name, almost a confirmation to her and her smile never wavers. She lets go of your hand and pulls you into a tight embrace.
“Forgive us.” She speaks.
“You haven’t done anything wrong.” You laugh, holding onto her and sobbing.
“It must’ve been years you’ve felt this way.” Her hand rubs the back of your head. “You’ve put up with us referring to you incorrectly for so long, and for that we owe you an apology.”
“No- no, please, don’t. I just… Didn’t know what to say or when to say it.” Your hands hold onto her, face buried into the crook of her neck.
“Then forgive us should we call you your old name.” Reinhardt speaks out, his hand returning to your back. “It’ll be a learning curve for us too.”
You shake your head as you pull away from Ana. “No, please don’t feel bad if you do.”
Reinhardt doesn’t waste anytime in pulling you in for a hug either. His larger form enveloping you, almost swallowing you in his arms. He was warm.
“We love you for who you are, [y/n].” Ana speaks, using your name. It sounded so real, so sweet coming form her. “We know the hardships you have been through. You are family here.”
“Overwatch is family…” You say, muffled against the larger mans chest.
“Overwatch is home.” Reinhardt says, looking over at Ana with the largest smile she had ever seen.
Jack, meanwhile, was sat watching this entire scene play out. His own smile was hidden behind the mug of coffee that had long since gone cold. He watched as you cried in their arms, watched as they both hugged you together, almost like a mother and father would do to their child.
“Suppose I better get some paperwork sorted.” He finally speaks.
You, Ana and Reinhardt look at him which throws Jack off guard.
“What?” He chuckles. “You want this official, kid?” Jack looks over at you and sees you nod, the sweetest smile on your face. “Then I will make it official.”
“Thank you.” Your voice was soft, tears in your eyes as you watch the commander stand up. He walks over to you and wraps his arms around you.
“You’re brave kid, strong too. We need you.” He says in your ear. “Welcome to the team, [y/n].”
Days had since passed since you came out and you were already drafted for the next assignment. Reyes, Cassidy, Ana and Genji were there too, all of you seated around the table as Morrison debriefed you on what was happening.
“[y/n], you’ll be on security.” The commander speaks.
Cassidy and Genji look over at each other before the cowboy speaks out. “Who’s [y/n]?”
“Me.” You say proudly.
“Well I’ll be damned.” Cassidy smiles.
Genji nods, a smile also on his face.
“It’s about time.” Cassidy jests, looking at you and winking. “Had an inkling about you.”
“Don’t say it like that-” You laugh.
The cowboy grins from ear to ear before tipping his hat to you.
“You could tell with him but can’t tell when that damn archer is flirting with you?” Reyes chimes in.
That sparks an argument between Reyes and Cassidy, Genji sinking further into his seat as he tries to hide, not wanting to hear the absurdities coming from the pair.
Ana looks over at you as you’re watching the two men argue, a smile on your face, cheeks flushed from the happiness inside. Jack was too busy trying to get those two to shut up, their voices getting louder, but that didn’t matter to you.
You were accepted among them, even if the entire base didn’t know yet. Those that mattered most to you accepted you without any questions or hesitation. It was going to take some time for everyone to get used to your new name and pronouns, but you were just so overwhelmed with loved and acceptance that you didn’t care.
For once, you felt like you belonged. You were home.
Overwatch is home…
“What do you mean, ‘not fully’?”
Yoongi’s standing beside you outside of Jungkook’s quarters. The younger man is taller, even when he’s leaning against the wall. Yoongi’s voice is a little gruff, but not really biting. It’s interesting to see the change in him, even in just a few short weeks since you got out of the medbay. You’d reflect on it more, but currently, your mind is racing.
“They just don’t make those memory banks anymore,” Jungkook says, pushing himself off the wall. He adjusts the long sleeves of his tunic to cover what you know are scars around his wrists. “I rebuilt what I could, but her personality and memories are all tied into that bank. You can see for yourself, but…” He trails off, sliding his hand over the console in the wall.
The door to his quarters slides open with a mechanical hiss. You and Yoongi follow the kid inside.
You freeze in the doorway. You weren’t expecting Tee to be here and alive and folding Jungkook’s laundry. But there she is. Holding one of Jungkook’s shirts. You can tell he’s had her fixed for a while, too, because the whole room is spotless. It’s still cluttered, but there’s a definite organization to it. Which makes sense. It’s in Tee’s programming to assist with tasks that her charge can’t perform on their own. It’s just… it’s weird to see her caring for someone else, to see her look up when Jungkook enters the room, to see what you know are sensors light up as she silently checks his vitals.
“Hello!” she greets, pushing the shirt into a drawer. “I am TK-53.”
It’s too much. Your brain short-circuits and you can’t. You just can’t. The door hasn’t closed yet, and you take the opportunity to about-face and retreat back into the hallway. The mechanical hiss behind you muffles whatever is said next, but you think you can hear Yoongi say something just as the door is closing.
It’s the same kind of heartbreak you’d had when you’d realized that Yoongi hated you all those weeks ago. The same but different. Tee had been the closest thing you had to a best friend for six years. She was your best friend. Of course, you were friendly with Namjoon, and you were close acquaintances with some of the other rebels. But Tee had been there for you like almost no one else had. She took care of you. Granted, it was her programming, but after so long, you’d managed to convince yourself that somewhere in her circuits, she actually cared for you.
You can tell that your thoughts are on the verge of spiraling, but you’re powerless to stop it. It’s like you’re standing on the edge of a cliff, your balance off-kilter–one small breeze could send you hurtling over the edge. You tense in anticipation of the fall, but it never comes. Gently, ever so gently, you’re pulled back from the edge first by a touch on your elbow, then by a pair of arms enveloping you.
His warmth surrounds you, and you tuck your chin over his shoulder, allowing yourself to relax. Your thoughts don’t really stop, but they’re less frantic, less rushed. It gives you time to actually think and not just be battered by it all. For a while, you’re quiet. You focus on the soft rise and fall of his chest against yours, of the gentle puffs of air that tickle your neck when he exhales.
This feeling sucks. And really, there’s nothing you can do about it. Sure, you have your droid back, but you’ll be starting all over. And honestly? Tee in the beginning had been annoying. Threats to leave her on some far-flung star system were not uncommon, and there had been more than one occasion where you’d locked her out of wherever you were sleeping because she’d wake you up to check on you. But then you’d gotten into a routine. She’d learned what could set you off–better than you half the time–and you’d both adapted.
You weren’t sure you wanted to do it all again. Of course, you still needed Tee–or, at least, you still needed something–to help ground you when things got to be too much. But if you’re honest with yourself, it was kind of nice to be without her on Denebia. It’s weird. With Tee around, you were always a little aware of your anxiety. Not that you were always affected by it, but you were always acutely aware of it. Without her, you hadn’t thought about it once before you’d seen the repurposed interrogation droid.
And yet…
“What if it’s not the same?” you whisper.
Yoongi pulls away, and immediately, you miss the contact. But he keeps his hands on your arms as his eyes search your face. What he’s looking for, you aren’t sure, but he frowns.
“It’s not going to be,” he says plainly. “But it can still be good. You can find a new normal.”
You shrug half-heartedly. Maybe he’s right. He’s probably right.
“I don’t think I can be alone again.”
He makes a noise in the back of his throat, somewhere between a hum and a grunt. His tone is firm when he speaks. “You won’t be.”
“Excuse me,” a mechanical voice draws you out of your mind. You hadn’t heard Jungkook’s door open. “I am TK-53. Your heart rate appears to be slightly elevated and your breathing is becoming abnormal. Would you care to sit down?” Tee gestures back to the door, the gears in her arms whirring with the movement.
For a moment, you’re quiet. And then you laugh just a little. Yoongi smiles, too, and squeezes your elbow. Tee doesn’t say anything, but her head swivels back and forth to look at both of you.
“I’m not sure I understand.”
Tumblr media
“No,” Namjoon says, shaking his head. It’s the third time he’s repeated it. “There’s no way. Not that I can figure, anyway.”
You nod. “Yoongi and I looked at their records. There’s no way they’re Imperial, unless they’re going to massive–improbable–lengths to hide it. And honestly I just can’t see the Empire putting up that much effort.”
“Unless they’re being purposefully disingenuous.” Commander Vela leans back in his seat, thick eyebrows pulled into a scowl. He twirls his mustache in thought. “I don’t think I need to remind you that we cannot afford to be wrong about this.”
Yoongi leans forward beside you, rests his elbows against the table in the war room. It’s empty, except for your little group and Vela. He steeples his fingers in front of his face, and you can tell he’s getting agitated from the hardness in his jaw. Part of you wants to let him speak. It might be fun to see him call Vela an idiot. But for decorum’s sake, you let him continue to stew.
“There’s zero evidence of that,” you say. “I can respect wanting to be safe, but I don’t want the rebellion to miss out on an opportunity for supplies–that we desperately need–because we were too cautious.”
Namjoon makes a noise of agreement. “By all accounts, Denebia is clean. And they just want to help.”
Vela stares, his eyes shifting from Seokjin in the corner, to Namjoon, to you, and to Yoongi. He rubs his chin, thinking, before finally he nods. “I’ll pass this information on to the General.” He clears his throat. “If there’s nothing else, you two are dismissed.” He nods at Seokjin and Namjoon.
For a brief moment, Namjoon pauses. You can sense that he’s unsure of what to do next. He makes eye contact with you, and after a second, he nods. They leave quietly.
Vela watches them go, waits until the door slides shut behind them before he says anything further. But then he leans forward again, hands clasped, forearms resting against the table, and he levels his gaze at you.
“I have a new assignment for the two of you.” He presses something on his data pad and the screen lights up. Two more taps, and both your and Yoongi’s pads beep. He’s sent you something. “Highly classified,” he continues. “It is of utmost importance that this information does not go beyond the two of you for now. I will fold the others in as necessary.”
You hum as you scan the information he’s sent you. It’s a travel ticket for a starliner. Apparently, you and Yoongi are going to a planet called Spira. You don’t know much about it other than that it’s a core world, but according to your datapad, it’s a vacation destination.
“We need you to go undercover,” Vela says, his voice low, as if he’s trying not to be overheard. “I’ll let you read the finer details, but there’s an Imperial captain vacationing with his wife. He has information that it is imperative that we know.”
“Such as?” Yoongi looks up from his own datapad, his gaze shifting from Commander Vela to you.
“We have gotten word that Commodore Radil Grafner is planning to assassinate Mon Mothma.” Vela says it like he’s telling you they’re serving bantha steak in the galley tonight.
You hum. Mon Mothma is, more than almost anyone else you can think of, the leader of the rebellion. It’s supposed to be led by council, a vestige of the fallen Republic that the Empire’s sham senate is supposed to emulate. Without Mon at the helm, there’s a good chance that the rebellion loses steam. There are others that would step up, you’re sure, but there’s something about Mon’s charisma, something about her leadership style that you know really bolsters people.
Your eyes meet Yoongi’s, and something unspoken passes between you.
“What do you need us to do?”
Tumblr media
Your first step onto the sands of Spira, it’s clear that this planet is different. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but there’s something about the atmosphere that doesn’t match anywhere else you’ve been. Stepping off the transport, it’s almost like the very air is primed to make you relax. There’s a slight breeze, the fronds of the palm trees above creating a gentle, tranquil almost music. It’s loud–there’s clearly a lot of people on this island of the planet–but it’s not uncomfortable. Somewhere in the distance, you can hear the roar of the sea rushing against the sand.
Yoongi steps up beside you, setting down your bags and stretching his arms above his head. He groans a little–the trip on the starliner was long, and it was shockingly cramped, despite the fact that there weren’t too many people on the ship–and when his arms come back down, one of them falls around your shoulders. You jump a little, shocked, and you have to remind yourself to calm down.
You’re supposed to be married, you scold yourself. Act like it.
So you do. You lean a little into him as you inspect the island as it stretches out from the transport hub. It’s Yoongi’s turn to jump, but he relaxes almost immediately into it. You stand there for a moment, taking it all in. Above you, a sea bird squawks and dives down to scrounge at something on the ground.
Yoongi sighs. “Shall we?” He nods toward the main building further down the path.
This is insanity, your brain screams at you as you walk hand-in-hand with Yoongi. You watch everyone you pass, check for any sign that your cover is blown, that they don’t believe that you’re a happy couple on vacation from their totally normal lives. This is fucking insanity. There’s no way-
“Hi there!” The Twi’lek behind the check-in counter is cheerful. Her azure skin practically sparkles in the tropical air, and she has flowers and fronds braided around the lekku on her head. She looks at home here–when she smiles, it’s brilliant and genuine. You suppose it probably wouldn’t be too terrible to work in an endless paradise.
You transfer her your information from your datapad–a brand new one that doesn’t have rebellion information on it. And as she’s preparing your room information, you take a second to look around. The resort lobby is open-air. Off to your left is a path that leads down to the beach. There’s a bar and restaurant that look fancier than anywhere you’d been in your life. Beyond the bar, the path curves toward the bungalows and guest rooms. To your right, it’s just sand and ocean for as far as you can see. Under the canopy of the lobby, there’s a desk where, presumably, you could rent watercraft.
Your datapad dings and draws your attention back to the Twi’lek checking you in. Yoongi presses closer, chest against your back, to see what you’re being handed. She drops two plastic discs into your hand.
“These will let you into your room,” she says. “They’re proximity, so just keep them on you–in a pocket or wherever’s fine. Your datapad should have a map of the property on it, but there are also plenty of helper droids around that you can ask if you’re unsure of how to get somewhere.” She offers you a warm, toothy smile. “Shall I summon a droid to help you to your room, or would you like to explore?”
You glance to your left and make eye contact with Yoongi. The ends of his hair are starting to curl in the salty humidity. His eyes are bright. Paradise looks good on him.
“We’ll explore a little,” he says, his hand enveloping the one you’re holding the proximity keys with.
It’s a lie. You don’t really explore so much as you just look around on your way to your bungalow. You follow the path along the beach as it curves around and out of sight from the lobby. It’s hot, and the sun is blinding, but there’s a nice breeze, and there’s plenty of shade from the tall palms that line the path. The sand and water are busy but not packed, and the further you get from the main building, the less people you see. There are families playing games–throwing discs or hitting a ball back and forth over a net–and splashing each other in the water. A young couple chases each other through the water, laughing and yelling in delight.
And when you finally get to your bungalow, you’re shocked by how big it is. Yoongi sucks in an audible breath, and you can tell he’s thinking the same thing you are. How in the world did the rebellion pull this off? There’s a soft click as you cross the little wooden footbridge that connects the path and the bungalow. As promised, the door is unlocked when you reach it.
The bungalow is immaculate on the inside. You step first into the common room with its projection screen and large, plush sofa. The kitchen is attached, though with the restaurant and bar in the resort, and the others you know are on the property, you’re fairly certain it’s never been used except to store drinks. Floor to ceiling windows at the back of the main room look out over the water–no beach on this side, only endless sea–and the attached deck with its built-in jacuzzi. It’s all beautiful. Shocking. Extravagant. But beautiful. There’s only one issue.
There’s only one bed.
You’re not sure why it’s weird. Just that it is. You’ve definitely fallen asleep beside Yoongi before. Definitely when you were children, and less often but still several times during your teenage and young adult years. So it’s not like it’s new territory. But somehow, it is.
That, however, is a problem for future you. Current you is on a time crunch. Current you needs to figure out how to stop an assassination. So you plop yourself down on the oversized sofa and turn on your datapad–your actual datapad, the one with all of your information. Yoongi sits beside you, pressing close so he can read over your shoulder.
The man you’re looking for–Captain Alain Connoi–is around your age, with high cheekbones and intense eyes. His light hair is combed perfectly under his regulation Imperial hat. His uniform is crisp, his badges and awards polished and shiny.
There’s no chance he looks like this here. Everyone you’d seen since you’d landed on Spira was in casual clothes. Your notes say that Connoi is here on vacation with his wife. Which means he, too, will be dressed to relax.
Which means that you and Yoongi need to be dressed to relax.
It’s not that you necessarily aren’t. But you’re both from a cold planet–Fest had seasons but certainly no one would say that it was a warm place to live–and you’ve spent more time than you’d like to admit recently on icy planets and on cold ships in the vast nothingness of space. After a while, you just got used to dressing in layers. This place, though… this is not a ‘layers’ place.
Hours later, you’re hungry. And your eyes hurt a little bit from reading and re-reading your datapad. Yoongi apparently got bored a while ago, because he’s now sitting with his legs tucked up under himself, scrolling through his own datapad. He’s changed into something more appropriate for the warmer weather, and despite the fact that you’re inside and the aircon is humming in the corner, his hair has continued to curl in the salty air and the humidity. It looks nice, softens the scowl that he’s currently wearing as he stares down at the screen.
You watch him quietly as he frowns, his brows pressing even further together for the briefest of moments. He types something into his datapad and leans back slightly, presumably to read whatever he just wrote. A poem, your brain helpfully assumes. He sighs and leans back fully, running his hand through his hair. Finally, he notices that you’re watching. His face scrunches quickly, and he shoots you a confused look.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“What?” He laughs a little.
“Nothing!” You shake your head. “You want to get dinner together tonight and then poke around on our own tomorrow?”
He stares at you for a long moment, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. Eventually, though, he shakes his head. “It’ll be weird if we split up.”
“We can make up some excuse.”
“People will get suspicious. We should stick together most of the time.”
“But we cover more ground separately.”
“We’ll find him eventually,” Yoongi says sagely, stretching out and throwing his arm over the back of the sofa. “I don’t think splitting up is a good idea.”
You hum. It doesn’t actually matter, you suppose, and it might be more fun to explore with Yoongi. Certainly it would be easier to look around with two people–you’ll probably see more. So you concede with a shrug before reaching out your hand. “Hungry?”
Tumblr media
The cantina–if you can even call it that–is really nice. Like, really nice. It’s huge, larger than almost any building you’ve ever seen. The academy back on Fest doesn’t hold a candle to it, and the garrisons and bases you’ve been on since you’ve been with the rebellion are garden sheds in comparison. The only thing that maybe–maybe–could stand up to it in sheer size is the Imperial outpost on Fest, which really was more of a complex than a single building. But even that doesn’t compare to just how beautiful the cantina is. It’s all natural woods and stone, as opposed to the harsh, brutalistic concrete and steel of your homeworld. It’s more purposeful and permanent than the rebellion bases you’ve been on.
You have to restrain yourself from stopping to marvel at it when you walk in.
It’s open-air, so not only is there a gentle sea breeze blowing, but they’ve got large, palm-shaped fans circulating the air at the top of the enclosure. It’s cool under the roof. There are tables everywhere, and each one has a beautiful view of the water that surrounds the peninsula the resort sits on.
You stand beside Yoongi waiting to be seated. Your hand is in his and you’re huddled close. There are a few other couples and families milling around waiting for tables, so you don’t stand out, but you’re still terrified that, somehow, they know that you’re faking it. You’ve never been this un-confident in your abilities before. But there’s something different about this mission. You can’t quite put your finger on it. Maybe it’s that the stakes have never been higher–an attempt on Mon Mothma’s life is something that normally, the rebellion would be sending out their best for–but you aren’t quite sure that’s fully it.
Yoongi shifts, leaning over a bit to whisper in your ear. “What do you think of those two?” His words are a warm puff of air against your skin, and when he nods in the direction of a table near the bar, you can feel his hair brushing against your own.
The people he’s referring to are sitting practically side-by-side at the table, a platter of some sort of roasted meat between them. The woman is holding a half-full wine glass, but she’s more interested in the man beside her than she is the food or drink. And, to be fair, he’s fairly handsome. Blond hair falling in light waves to his temple, a muscular but slight build, high cheekbones. He’s in a beachy shirt, unbuttoned at the front and revealing a matching sleeveless shirt underneath.
You squint, shift a little to lean into Yoongi so it’s less obvious that you’re staring. There’s no way it’s this easy. And yet, when the man laughs at something the woman says, you’re sure.
That’s Alain Connoi.
You must make a face, because Yoongi laughs, his forehead bumping into your temple briefly. When you turn to look at him, your face is centimeters from his own.
“Change of plans?” he suggests, an eyebrow quirking in question.
“We can’t just let it go.” You turn together, and Yoongi makes a show of leaning in close as you exit the cantina. You’ll find somewhere to wait and follow Connoi and his wife. But god, part of you is disappointed.
The food looked really good.
There’s a bench outside by the water that you can see both of the entrances to the cantina from, so you sit down, prepared to wait. You scoot close to Yoongi, and almost instinctively, his arm comes up to wrap around your shoulders. For a while, you sit in silence, the only sounds coming from the cantina or the crashing of the waves. It’s nice, strange though it is, to get a break like this.
It doesn’t take long for Connoi and his wife to come out of the cantina. They’re happy, and clearly by the way they look at each other, they’re madly in love. It would be sweet, except for the fact that they are, at the very least, turning a blind eye to the suffering the Empire is causing across the galaxy, and at the most, complicit in it. The two laugh together as they walk down the path away from you, towards the lobby.
You follow. Close enough that you can see precisely where they’re going, but not so close that they’d mark you as following them. You walk casually, Yoongi’s arm slung over your shoulder. Quietly, he interprets what they’re saying.
“Numbers are up in the Imperial academy,” he whispers, voice forced deeper than what it is naturally. “We’ve run out of volunteers, so we’ve resorted to drafting the Gungans.” You snort out a laugh, and he continues. “The Emperor has decided that regular poverty is too rich for the planets in the outer rim, so we’re enacting a policy called advanced poverty.”
You can’t help it. “What’s the difference? A lifetime subscription?”
He hums in agreement. “And an iron-on patch. Looks great on canvas jackets.”
“Oh, how absolutely wonderful.” You pitch your voice higher and pat Yoongi’s chest. It takes a second, but you melt into a fit of giggles, leaning into each to keep yourselves upright.
Ahead, the Connois turn down a path that cuts down the beach, around the main structure of the lobby. You can hear music further down, and sure enough, when you get close enough, there’s a bar here with a few tall tables scattered around and a large, open dance floor. At the other end, there’s a stage–it’s not very large, maybe a foot or two off the ground and wide enough to hold the musicians and not much else. A dark-skinned woman stands at the front of the stage in front of a microphone, crooning some up-beat jazzy song that you can’t understand. The band behind her are playing instruments you’ve never seen before.
Connoi and his wife pick a table off to the side, so that’s where you go, too. You and Yoongi sidle up to the table directly beside them. They’re huddled together and don’t notice you, but you stick close to each other anyway. After a moment, Connoi hops off his chair, kisses his wife’s hair, and walks over to the bar. Yoongi gives it a second before squeezing your waist and following. You watch him go, watch as he approaches the bar just to the left of Connoi, watch as he leans against the bar with a practiced casualness.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” The voice from your right startles you. When you look, Connoi’s wife is looking at you expectantly.
“Even more than I was expecting,” you answer truthfully. The holophotos Vela had sent you didn’t do the resort justice.
She stands and scoots her tall chair a little closer to you. The music is loud. She probably wants to hear you better. But a little part of you gets nervous anyway. “My husband and I come here every few years. It’s just so relaxing to get away.”
“I don’t know that I’ve ever been on vacation, let alone one like this,” you admit with a laugh. “I’m not really sure what to do with myself.”
“Oh, I remember our first time here. It was our honeymoon.” She smiles gently. “You two seem to be having fun, though.”
“He makes it easy.” You say it before even thinking about it. “He’s much more easy-going than I am.”
She laughs. “I totally get that. We’re the same way, I think. I’ve always got to have a schedule.”
The conversation lulls just as the band’s song ends. An enthusiastic round of applause erupts from the crowd on the dance floor. You clap politely, though if you’re honest, you couldn’t even say what the song sounded like.
“Where are you staying?” she asks when the next song starts up.
“Oh the bungalows.” You gesture in their general direction.
“Us too!” She offers you her hand. “I’m Lylla, by the way.”
“Allyxi.” Her grasp is firm as she shakes your hand.
Yoongi returns then, two identical drinks in hand. They’re certainly nothing you’ve ever tried before–a bubbling blue-green concoction in a tall, ribbed glass with a skewer of fruit stuck down in. Connoi sits, then, handing his wife a glass of what looks to be red wine.
“These came highly recommended,” Yoongi says, gesturing to the drinks and nodding toward Connoi.
You shoot him what you hope is a subtle look that says ‘what the fuck?’. Thankfully, Lylla starts talking.
“It’s their first time here,” she says, patting Connoi’s–Alain’s, you mentally correct yourself–arm.
“So I’ve heard.” His voice is deep, and you’re reminded of the voice Yoongi had put on to imitate him. You have to stop yourself from laughing.
Lylla gasps. “I have the best idea. Why don’t we all get breakfast tomorrow, and then Alain and I can show you around the resort a little bit? We’ve been here so many times, I’m sure there are some hidden gems we could introduce you to.”
You look to Yoongi and widen your eyes. There’s no way this is happening. There’s no way it’s this easy. There’s no way you can back out at this point, but every bone in your body is screaming that you’ve been made. You can see it in his eyes that he’s thinking the same thing. But despite everything, you plaster on a smile and turn back to Lylla. “Sounds fun!”
The Connois smile widely, and Alain opens his mouth to say something. But the song changes just then, and whatever he’s about to say is gone as he turns to his wife.
“I think this is our song,” he says lowly, leaning into her.
In a moment, they’re gone, swallowed by the crowd.
You sigh and lean back heavily into your chair. “We’re so dead.”
“So dead,” Yoongi agrees, taking a sip of his drink.
For a while, you don’t say anything. You just sit there at the table, sipping your drinks and watching the dance floor. The day here is much longer than you’re used to–the sun is low in the sky, and everything’s slowly turning orange, but it hasn’t yet set. At some point, you see the Connois leave the dance floor. They wave as they leave, presumably to return to their room. You don’t follow. There’s no point. You’re hanging out with them tomorrow. Willingly.
A couple more songs pass. You listen passively. Honestly, the singer isn’t half-bad. Her voice is raspy, but her range is phenomenal, and she’s got this sultry kind of stage presence that makes it hard to look away from her once you’ve started.
But then the music slows. And you’re sick of sitting there, thinking about your inevitable destruction at the hands of Alain Connoi. So without thinking, you take Yoongi’s hand.
“Dance with me?” As soon as it’s out of your mouth, you’re nervous. Something in you knows that if he were to say no, you’d be crushed.
He blinks slowly. “What?”
“Dance,” you repeat. “With me?”
“Oh, uh…” He downs the rest of his drink, and for the briefest of moments, something in you is hurt. But then he squeezes your hand. “Sure.”
You don’t stray too far onto the dance floor. Even though the song is slower and the dancers are much closer to their partners, it’s still a mass of bodies, and quite frankly, you don’t want to be in the middle of it.
Yoongi’s arm wraps around you, holding you close. His hand rests on your lower back, his other hand clasping yours close to his chest. Slowly, you sway to the beat of the song. You’re pretty sure you’ve heard this one before, in some cantina on some far-off planet. And for the first time possibly ever, you let yourself get lost in the moment.
You play with the wavy strands of hair at the base of his neck and he hums, head tilting so that his head is almost resting against yours. He’s warm, and there’s a slowly-growing tingly sensation spreading across your back from where his hand rests.
“Yoongi?” He hums, turning ever so slightly so that he can look at you, dark eyes sparkling in the slowly dying sunlight.
You never get to finish your thought. Before you can say anything, he’s leaning in. When his lips connect with yours, there’s no mistaking it for an accident. It’s purposeful, direct. You can taste the Corellian rum of his drink.
It’s over far too quickly. You’ve never tried spice, but if it’s anything like how you’re feeling now, you understand why people get addicted. It’s like lightning in your veins. His hand grips yours tightly, the other moving from your back to rest feather-light on your hip, your noses brush gently. Your arm is slung casually across his shoulders, keeping him close. Everywhere he touches, your skin is hot and tingly. The air around you is thicker, the salty-sweet of the oceans and the flowers dialed up to 11. Colors are brighter, more vibrant—have his eyes always been such a beautiful shade of honeyed oak, deep and dark and warm?
The shock has already worn off, but the electricity remains. And  when you lean in again, ever so slightly, he meets you halfway, the barest hint of a smile on his chapped lips.
The band changes songs—an up-beat sort of jazz standard you’ve never heard—and the cerulean-skinned singer croons into the microphone, her voice sultry as she sings, language unknown. Someone close to the stage laughs a little too loudly. And just like that, the magic comes crashing down around you.
What have I done?
You can feel the blood rush to your face, can hear your heart pounding in your ears. You’re too warm, standing so close to him like this, and you take a step back. For a moment, Yoongi looks confused, but you don’t give yourself time to think about it. You turn and flee, leaving him there on the dance floor.
You don’t miss the hurt that crosses his face.
I Will | Frenchie (ft. Jim Jimenez)
MASTERLIST | AO3 | KO-FI
Relationship(s): Frenchie x gn!reader (romantic), Jim Jimenez x Frenchie (platonic), Jim Jimenez x gn!reader (platonic)
Summary: A series of mostly unrelated vignettes loosely based on a face-value reading of I Will by Mitski; when you’re trapped aboard Blackbeard’s Revenge as part of his new crew, your relationship with Frenchie develops.
Warnings: Typical pirate things, non-sexual nudity. (Let me know if I need to add any)
Word count: 1.2k
(A/N: There’s not enough fics for Frenchie on here so I’m going to try to change that. I wouldn’t say I’m a hero but... well, what other word could you possibly use? I threw in some platonic!Jim because I can’t help but wedge platonic things into my romantic fics. I’m guessing my interpretation of what is currently known as post-canon will one day be completely disproven when season 2 comes out, but let’s forget about that because I loved writing this. I’ve been listening to the same three Mitski songs over and over (Washing Machine Heart, Nobody and, of course, I Will), despite wanting to actually explore her discography more, and I’ve even started writing an Izzy x OC fic where their dynamic is going to be kind of like those songs (though I might also write some reader-insert fics based on those bops too, since my OC fic’s going to borrow from some of the stuff I’ve written for this blog anyway). [Insert obligatory begging for OFMD requests here])
It took you a while before you fully adjusted to sleeping in a bed (specifically Oluwande’s old bed), which was partially because you shared it with Frenchie. It was made for one person, but neither of you had wanted the other to sleep on the floor (despite the fact you both were more than used to it). Though, the two of you soon realised that you quite enjoyed sharing a bed, or the sentiment of closeness that came with it.
The physical reality of sharing such a small bed was a self-conscious nightmare, at least to start with. The idea of waking the other up with one wrong toss or turn was mortifying. Somehow, though, neither of you minded when you’d wake up with the other’s arms secured around your waist, or the other’s head resting on your shoulder. It was actually quite nice. Thanks to the relatively close friendship you’d developed while aboard the Revenge, neither you nor Frenchie thought it really meant anything, until it actually started to…
That bed was where the terror of being aboard Blackbeard’s ship could melt away beneath the moonlight until the sun came up and Izzy came banging on the door. And, soon enough, it became the only certain place that you and Frenchie could explore and express these strange, new feelings that had been awakened.
━━━━━━━━━
Frenchie’s knee bounced up and down as he sat on the edge of your shared cot, which his hands were gripping tightly. He turned around to look at you once again. You were still unconscious, even hours after the raid.
He’d done everything he could: tended to the wound, wiped the grime off your face, brushed away your stray hairs. Now, you just had to wake up.
He grabbed your limp hand and stroked your knuckles with his thumb.
Jim glanced up, still sharpening their knife.
“They’re gonna be okay. Captain Bonnet survived worse, even when he wasn’t exactly built for it...”
“It’s not just that.” he sighed
Jim watched as Frenchie gazed at you worriedly.
“The Captain’s not gonna throw them overboard ‘cause of this. He won’t let Izzy do it either.” Jim insisted. “They both seem to think they’re a shit pirate, sure, but they know they’re the most efficient worker on this ship. Without Y/N, odds are this ship’d be a total shithole. That counts for something.”
Frenchie’s uncertain eyes met Jim’s.
“If they were planning on killing them, the Captain wouldn’t have bothered telling us to patch ‘em up or gave them time to recover. And, if either of them ever do plan on killing Y/N-” They twirled their knife in their hand. “I’ll sure as hell have something to say about it.”
As if on cue, you stirred, groaning as your eyes slowly opened. A sigh of relief escaped Frenchie’s nostrils, while Jim couldn’t help the small smirk that tugged at their lips.
“Frenchie?” you mumbled hoarsely. “How long was I out?”
“Most of the day.” he shakily replied. “It’s night now, so…”
You shifted in an attempt to sit up. Finally letting go of your hand, he gripped your upper arms to help you.
“I’ll go get you a drink, yeah?”
Before you could agree, he had already pecked you on the forehead and left the room.
Jim chuckled.
“Oh, hey, Jim.” you greeted weakly.
“Hey. How’re you feeling?”
“Pretty good, considering I got stabbed a few hours ago.”
They snickered.
“Eh, well, at least you get a couple days off.”
“I do? That’s suspiciously merciful.”
“Nothing to do with mercy.” Jim shrugged. “Frenchie told the Captain he’d cover for you for a few days, and the Captain decided he’d rather you get better than worse.”
You smiled to yourself.
━━━━━━━━━
“You really don’t have to do this.” you muttered as Frenchie rolled up his sleeves again.
“I know.”
His fingers gently combed through your damp hair as he knelt behind the bathtub that neither of you had ever really been able to fit into in all your time aboard the Revenge.
You rolled your head back slightly beneath Frenchie’s soothing touch, a quiet sigh escaping your lips. You couldn’t help but shudder when your exposed, water-soaked skin brushed against the cool night air that had seeped below deck into the room Stede once generously referred to as the ‘state of the art ensuite’. It didn’t help that the bathwater was already lukewarm, having already been used by Jim (who had long since retired to bed) and Frenchie; Captain Blackbeard had decided that if the three of you could share a cabin, then you could also share bathwater.
“You alright?” he asked softly.
“Yeah. Just a bit cold is all. I’ll live.” you answered lightly.
He chuckled weakly. The comfortable silence that followed wrapped around you like a blanket.
After five or so minutes, he reached for the (also shared) towel that had been discarded on the floor not long ago and gently ran it over and through your hair, but he soon paused.
“Not being too rough, am I, dear?”
You grinned and suppressed a giggle at his endearing sincerity. It felt as though you were being tickled by a swarm of cliche butterflies in your stomach.
“No, love.” you assured him. “Feels quite nice, actually.”
You turned your head to face him (a manoeuvre that proved difficult and painful in your narrow, metallic container).
“Thank you.”
After a moment of hesitation, you placed a hand on his cheek and stroked it with your thumb, then leaned backwards to press a quick kiss to his forehead. You turned back around before you could see his smile.
He continued to wipe away the moisture from your hair until it was dry enough.
“There.” he declared as he finished.
He rose to his feet, draped the towel over his arm and, having made his way around to the front of the tub, extended his hand to help you out of the tub. As you stood up, he averted his gaze and handed you the towel.
You scrubbed your wet skin with the towel.
“You don’t have to look away, you know.” you stated. “I mean, you can, if you want. Just don’t feel like you have to for my sake, is all I’m saying.”
He glanced over at you, keeping his eyes on your face. You smiled at him, and he shyly returned it.
“Could you pass me my clothes, love?”
“Yeah, sure.” he nodded.
He crouched down, gathered the pile of your clothes on the floor and held them out to you. The towel fell to the floor and you grabbed them from him.
“Cheers.”
After you had tugged on your clothes, Frenchie held the door open for you. You bowed at him jokingly and he chuckled. Making sure no one was around, you pressed a quick kiss to Frenchie’s cheek, grabbed his hand and led him back to your shared quarters. It took a moment for his awestruck expression to be replaced with a grin.
━━━━━━━━━
Frenchie wrapped his arms around your waist as he pulled you closer to him.
“Night, darling.” he whispered.
Carefully, you rolled over in his arms and looked at him with a smile.
“Night, love.”
You reached up and cupped his cheeks, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. He grinned. You then lowered your hands, slid your arms around his torso and burrowed your face into his chest. Absently, he stroked your hair and kissed the top of your head.
Both of you drifted off to sleep with the same small hope: one day, you’d be able to share your love, without worry, outside of this bed.
Word Girl AU: I almost killed her...
Part 4!!!!
He didn't sleep all night and he for once… Went outside to spend his weekend away from his robots, as much as he didn't enjoy it or nature… He couldn't face his own machines right now no matter how hard he tried. It made his head hurt with too many questions that he didn't know how to answer… He ended up at the park he and Word Girl went to many weeks ago. Sighing aloud, he went to the swings to sit down and drift lightly as his head tilt to the sky and watched the clouds.
His head was full of questions and problems… But something stuck out to him even while he was trying to avoid answering them. Am I still going to make robots? He kicked the ground, swinging some as his head drifted down slowly to where his eyes were level with the city in the distance once again.
….. It was a mistake… But it almost killed someone… He never… Actually tried to kill someone, as he never wanted to! He threatened people yes, but Word Girl was there to rescue them, so he never saw them as in 'Real Danger' … But now he put someone, someone he ADMIRES!!! In real danger… The solution seemed so simple: just don't use Lexonite anymore. Yet he still felt so guilty for hurting her and feeling Proud about his plan in the past.. He felt disgusting… But didn't simply want to give up what he loves, building robots is his passion, even if they aren't acknowledged right.
He sighed and got off the swing only to be greeted with eyes on him, big curious eyes of adults and other kids his age or younger. He didn't notice as he was too busy spacing off, everyone was looking at him like they expected something. He sweat a little before simply meaning to walk away, however he ran into a much younger kid. They stared at each other for a little bit .
" You saved Word Girl from the evil Mr. Big. "
He flinched. It was so odd to hear… Saved- like he's some hero. " Yes… I did… "
The child suddenly hugged him and he cringed. " Thanks you… She my hero! "
He wanted to push them off and shout for their parents to come reclaim them, but instead he found himself simply patting them on the head. " Cool.. please let go now. "
The kid did before running back off to his parents. Tobey whipped his head to the bystanders. " STOP- staring at me, it's creepy!! "
" We just didn't expect a bad guy to protect a hero! You were pretty cool out there THAT time haha! "
He flinched again as people around agreed in a mutual understanding before going back to minding their own business… Thank goodness, he didn't think he could handle another positive comment like that… 'Hero'…. ghhh…. He saved her- Once!….. Okay maybe he's helped her a few times, but that was only because they had the same goal!! It meant nothing, he's not GOOD- and even if he was this… This city would still run him over..just like before. Power keeps their attention. Threats make them actually listen. Being Bad won't make him disappear!
Ghhh! He stopped to hold his head, another headache… every time he thinks about it a throbbing headache begins.. it was too much… He's never been so conflicted in his life…. Maybe he should just go home… This didn't seem to be helping, he thought as he turned around to make the trek back home. Passing by the people again as they minded their own business this time, he exited the park reaching up to adjust his glasses some after rubbing the bridge of his nose. Waiting for his opportunity to cross the street before safely making it to the other side. As he walked through the city, his attention was just on getting home and trying to ignore anyone that questioned him about his actions, but the more he heard about that day the more his confusion shifted into anger. By time he got home the boy was absolutely furious with everything, stomping up to his room and disappearing inside his secret back room to work on robots.
The one thing he enjoyed… And the one thing he knew he could rely on… ROBOTS DESTROYING!!! He tinkered away in his lab for what felt like hours until he could ride his trusty steed out into the city once more and start crushing things. However, Tobey was making the unconscious act of avoiding people… He saw himself checking cars once or twice before crushing them, however it didn't click in his brain as to why, he only really noticed something was wrong as he heard his robots falling over… And there was no button to fight Word Girl. He paused, shaking his head before observing the controller in his hands. Even when he didn't mean to do harm, Word Girl was a type of rival! She could handle being volleyed between Robots and has been many times when he manages to outsmart her.
This time… Tobey simply didn't put any weapons on his robots. Zero. Not one self defense punch to fend off the hero. He whimpered, " What what whaaat??? Come ON!!! Fight back! Do as I say! Robots attack!! Do it!! "
The robots just looked at each other, then back at Tobey. One robot lifted up its arm to pathetically swing at Word Girl, which she easily dodged to pummel the robot that dared move. Tobey grumbled and kicked the robot he was standing on, on its neck only to regret it immediately. Falling over to roll into a ball, hugging his leg and whimpering as he tried to hold back tears from his idiot action. Why didn't he put weapons on them!? Why aren't they programmed to fight back!!! What's the point in some…. Well… The point is that it's fun… But he can't rival Word Girl if he holds back like this! WHY DID HE HOLD BA-….. He froze for a minute as he looked up to see Word Girl in front of him with a look of disappointment on her, or was she upset? He couldn't tell.. but looking into her eyes, it hit him.
I can't bare to even chance hurting her again… I must have made the robots less dangerous because…. I don't want to hurt anyone…. And that incident…. I could have hurt somebody this whole time… I just assumed they wouldn't be since Word Girl is here… Even though I claim to not be on their level, I really was just as bad…. As those villains who would hurt for their own gain… How could he have been so blind… So… Stupid!! Tobey you fool!! … He liked the lasers, weapons and other things he put onto his robots, but now he simply… Wouldn't be able to??
Word Girl came over and picked him up like usual when she apprehends him, placing him down on the street before obliterating the robot he was standing on, then landing in front of him. " Guess I was hoping for too much when I thought you weren't going to terrorize the city anymore… Though I am surprised, Tobey, that it was SOOOO easy… Usually you go a lot more heavy handed on the weapons, techniques, the evil plotting… This is like… Day 5… Of fighting you all over again. Too predictable! "
Tobey looked away without turning his head as his arms folded behind his back. He felt conflicted again, but this time neither angry nor headache inducing. " It was for fun. "
Word Girl seemed baffled, tilting her head some before she got a more angry look on her face. " You were terrorizing the city… For fun… Rather than??? "
"I wouldn't say 'terrorizing', I was.. going on a little destructive stroll. You did see, didn't you Word Girl? I didn't threaten anybody. "
WG: " You were probably going to when I got here.. GASP!! IT WAS A TRAP!! Where is it!?! " Capt. Huggyface got into a fighting stance as Tobey simply shook his head slowly.
" I wasn't…. There… Is none. No trap, no evil plan to make you mine, no revenge on the neighborhood kid that pushed over my bike, no board game that's actually real… Oh wait that was with Becky, not you… But it was an evil plot, so I count it. "
Word Girl looked unsure of him. He sighed and raised his hands up in a surrender motion. " Check my pockets if you must, I haven't a single other remote on me… I was letting off steam from something completely unrelated to the city, but taking it out on the local cars because …. It's fun. "
He shut his eyes as Word Girl did in fact check his body for anything else before backing off again. His arms naturally went down and folded behind his back as his eyes half opened to look at the super hero again… He didn't feel entirely fulfilled of letting off steam… However that was how the cookie crumbled, he supposed. Word Girl rubbed the bridge of her nose before walking forward some.
" Why don't you make robots… To help me? You'd be able to build to your heart's content as they would likely be destroyed eventually by my opponents… You'd get to put your weapons on them… If you don't plan on using them anymore, I don't know… Why don't you try entering the Robot Fighting ring again but dial it down by A Million so you won't get disqualified? … Again.. I'll even go with you to get you un-banned from the last time you went, Tobey. There are better ways to let off steam than annoying me by wrecking things. "
Tobey shook his head immediately. " That's not me. I build to my hearts content, to 1 million percent! It's the other person's fault if they can't build a ray that disintegrates the competition into their robits. The point is to WIN! I built the best robit, therefore I should win, but noooo I get disqualified!! It's ridiculous!! And as for HELPING- h e l p i ng … Ugh! Word Girl… I might have come to a …. A…. Mmm…. Help me out here? "
Word Girl put her hand up to her chin and thought for a moment on what word he could be wanting to use right now, as to her it wasn't obvious what he was trying to say… She ended up shrugging. " Try your best. I don't understand the context of your sentence, so I can't give you the correct word without going through all the words that could go in that particular spot. "
He squinted at her and rubbed the bridge of his nose again before thinking….. he didn't know the word… So he should try: " Well… before our last fight I didn't really think about IF someone could get hurt. I knew you were there. Nothing bad would actually happen. But after our fight… I guess I've really been thinking about it, and how honestly…. I could have hurt someone this whole time. "
" Ohhhhh. So you've come to a realization… Wait how did you not real- "
" YES! Realization, thank you! .. ahem… I may have come to a realization Word Girl, but that doesn't mean I have any intentions to just completely switch sides!! Destruction is not only fun but it really makes me feel… Good. "
WG: " But what about all the people you're making feel bad? Cars are expensive you know!!?? "
Tobey shrugged. " The price went way down since the city got infested with villains, not like we don't see a bunch of brand new cars every single day after an attack. I can deal with hurting feelings a little. "
WG: " RRRRRRRRR!!! What about the one time you crashed a party and couldn't crush the cake!?! Huh!?! Come ON Tobey think about it for more than two seconds! "
" That was different! It was her birthday and that cake meant a lot to her! Who's attached to their bloody cars??? "
WG: " A LOT OF PEOPLE!!! Cars can be gifts to teenagers that just got their permit to drive, cars can have value to someone that nobody else sees, there's an event in the city where people who love cars come around and talk about their cars! I had to go! IT WAS BORING!!! "
He fiddled his fingers some and looked down lightly. " Oh… I see… " What else could he beat up senseless then??? Have his own robots fight?? ….Nooo… He already tried that and that causes just as much destruction and he always knows the outcome, so it's not even satisfying to watch. He didn't understand how that was different than when he crushed cars just to be foiled but… It just was to him for some reason. He shook his head.
" Wait… Why should I care?? If tomorrow a different villian will come and destroy the car? I know that I am the most popular subject to get rid of cars but I know I'm not the only one either. I spare a car today for it to be obliterated tomorrow. I don't see the point in protecting such a mundane item. "
WG: " You could say that for the cake! You spared the cake but a different villain could come later to smash it to bits, making your time sparing it null and void. "
" Again with the stupid cake it was ONE TIME! A birthday is not the same as a c a r . "
WG: " To some people it is!! "
" AND WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO!!!!? " his arms moved as he spoke, words fell out of his mouth without even thinking, " Be a good little boy that won't be acknowledged by anyone!?? Oh Tobey, cute little robit. You get Third place and we won't endorse you! Oh Tobey, please help me by lending me a robit for life and then I'll never speak to you again! You don't even remember what I was like before I became bad DO YOU?? "
He pointed at Word Girl who sweat and raised her hands in a defensive manner as she looked up. " He used to be good? "
Narrator: " Kinda. He always had that little kick in him for destroying things, however back before his current grade Tobey was an…okay kid at best… Not GOOD, but not destroying the city either, just his room. He had to be first or would throw a fit because of his little superiority complex he's got there, heheheh so cute. "
Tobey grumbled something at the back of his throat.
Narrator: " All things aside… He did try making his robots for Good when he first started, but nobody paid him the attention he thought he deserved. "
" I DO DESERVE IT!!! I DO!! I work so hard on my robits and what takes my place!?!? " He waved his hand at the sky motioning the Narrator to speak, there was a sound of paper tapping against a desk.
Narrator: " Ahhh lets see here…. Science Fair, you lost to a can opener that doubled as a bottle opener. Science Fair the previous year, you lost to a soda volcano. The Super Battle Bot Royale Extreme before the time you got disqualified, you made a robot that fit all the rules but still lost because your robot and the other person came to a tie and it was up to the audience which bot should move on and nobody picked youuu…. Let's see… "
" The time I tried to get Word Girl's attention…. "
WG looked back to him: " Huh?? "
Narrator: " Lemme see here…. Bu bu bu bu… Ahah! The week before he turned to destruction as his answer to life as well, Tobey built a robot to help you fight crime. His methods were a little extreme, but he meant well, and when he was trying to get your attention you were too busy with Dr. Two-brains to acknowledge him… Then… Bu bu bu bu buuuuu…. Ohhhh…. Yikes… "
WG: " What?? What did I do? "
Narrator: " Tobey managed to get your attention, but to be fair you were really tired from the long day, so honestly Tobey should have tried again the next day… But ahem: Tobey showed you his robot and you thought it was a threat because of its extreme measures, plus naturally robots weren't such a big thing back then and all. It was an honest mistake but… You punted it into space, said 'you're safe now citizen, have a nice day' then flew away. "
Word Girl's eyes grew large as the realization hit her. " NOOOOO! OH MY GOSH!!! I'M - I'm so sorry Tobey!! I didn't know, look it was an accident… I was so tired… I don't even remember what I was thinking back then cause it was too long ago… Thanks for the visual though Narrator. "
Narrator: " Just doing my job. "
WG: " Tobey, it was a long day and I was exhausted… Why didn't you.. just … make another one??? "
Tobey grit his teeth as his fingers shut into a fist. " I put my soul… Into that robit just to watch it get flung into space! … It was like my entire life of efforts crashed onto my shoulders in a second… I went home and started throwing things across my room in a fit of rage …. And the idea hit me… I always destroyed things upon being mad… What if I made my robits destroy things instead?? I built my first army and attacked the city! And oh let me tell you!! Nothing had felt THAT good 'til then!! Stepping on other people's hard work!! YOU have your efforts SMASHED!! MUH HUHUHUHUH!!! And then I did more! Realizing you would come to save the city, I crushed as many cars as I could before I knew I would be stopped!!! And that's when I heard it..and my heart skipped a beat~ You said my name! I WAS RECOGNIZED!!! I finally felt… Good again… Of course it wasn't enough hahaha~ but… I never intended to harm anyone…. I only wanted your attention, which turned into a rivalry! On top of crushing things daily my life was practically complete! "
He felt a little smile cross his face as his body felt… Relaxed.. he blinked a few times looking between Word Girl and the sky above him where they always looked to speak to the Narrator. "…..Did I just speak my feelings? "
WG: " ….Yeah… I guess so?? "
Tobey suddenly became flabbergasted. " Wh--??? HOW??? HOW'D I DO IT!?!?! HOW DO I DO IT AGAIN!?!?! "
WG sweat: " UHHHHHHH - I don't know… Why do.. you have to destroy to feel good?? "
" I DON'T KNOW!!! I just do! I like the feeling of something so worthless compared to me getting stomped! I always did even before I started getting all mad at everyone… DID I DO IT AGAIN???? " He jumped a bit in place as Word Girl kinda stuttered,
" UHHHH I- I don't… Know???? You didn't get it across to me that well???? I don't get it. "
His excitement sunk a bit. " Oh. " He was hoping he could say more of his feelings, particularly the ones that involved Word Girl but the steam was gone and everything he had to say in that moment was out.. GRRRRRRRRUHHHH!! WHYYYYYYYY!?!?!!!? He was frustrated…. But also not at the same time.
" Well… I don't know how else to say it, I think destruction is fun and always have. Does there need to be a reason? "
Word Girl shrugged: " I… Guess not? …but… Why not…try again Tobey?? I can help you so that your robots won't be ignored, you can destroy.. helpful things! Litter, Dr. Two-Brains' machines, pollution in the water, beat up crime in all kinds of ways! I know you had a bad experience but you have my attention now.. and I promise you won't lose it by changing which side the robots fight on. Things can change… Please? " She offered her hand to him for him to grab… He looked at it with an unimpressed look… Sighing,
" ….It's not an easy answer… Word Girl… I'll think about it. "
She nodded: " Okay… I can allow that… But will you stop destroying things in the city until then? "
He laughed: " No~ "
Word Girl smacked her lips. " Whelp… I gotta give you back to your mom now then… See you next robot rampage? I guess?? "
He chuckled. " Looking forward to it. " He said before he was whisked back home and promptly grounded once again… His head felt a bit clearer, but was still riddled with questions and now a big decision on his plate… But he had time to think it over.. how he felt and maybe someday… He could express it.
bloodsucker chapter 15: reconciliation
“jean, i think i might actually die,” i threw my fists onto my eyes; applying pressure to them. as if i wasn’t drowning in schoolwork before; i was now with the extra four classes i took on. making up work for the content i missed meant that i barely had time for any form of social life.
he looked up from his textbook, “well, this is what you get for trying to finish two years of college in one.” for the past few weeks, jean had become my rock. the confidant i could tell all my vampire problems to. he also made a good study partner because he didn’t bother me as i worked. “yeah, i know.”
the visit with grisha was still fresh in my mind. like it was just yesterday eren and i went to the mansion. my anxiety was topped with the end of the semester work. it was easy to run away to germany with eren; but the reality of getting there was back-breaking. eren only had to take a couple extra classes to finish by the end summer, but i had to double it.
on the drive home that night, we figured we might as well get our degrees. even though we truly didn’t need them; it felt like the right way to tie up our lives here with. at least, at the time it seemed like a smart choice. “i can’t believe you guys are really doing this, though,” jean grabbed my attention back, closing his book as i shut off my laptop. a quick break won’t hurt anyone.
“i can’t either. but we’ve got it all planned out.” a smile i couldn’t hide appeared on my face. thinking of the life i had ahead with eren made all the work worth it. i knew the fear of grisha would follow us; but we hoped he himself wouldn’t. “did you plan to leave all of us behind?” jean joked, but his face was concerned.
i laughed at him, “no, we planned that too. as long as grisha is away from shiganshina, it’s easy enough to visit you guys. and my dad.” with zeke as our ‘mole’ everything worked out perfectly. too perfectly. eren kept telling me i was paranoid; maybe i should start listening to him. i hoped the nerves would start to settle after finalizing the move.
his mood perked up instantly, “wait really?” his voice had gone a bit higher. i nodded my head. “i’m just glad you’re happy. eren too. i watched as vampirism took over his life, i was worried it would happen with you,” his features dipped back into a twinge of sadness. memories haunted both of us.
but jean was right. i was happy like this. it might’ve been eren, or the vampirism, but it didn’t matter. i adjusted well and quickly, the amplified changes made everything easier. it was comforting having eren go through it with me. he made the biggest difference. sometimes i felt like nothing was even real; like i was in a coma and this was all just a dream.
the door to my room swung open with a loud thud, drawing me out of my thoughts, “hey slut!” connie squealed, pitching his voice to sound like a girl. he jumped from his spot in the doorframe, tackling my sitting body to the floor completely.
i was aware of the pressure his body weight put on me, but it didn’t register as being painful. “do you really have to tackle me every time you see me?” i complained. he lifted himself above me, extending his arms to read my face, “course i do!” he said it like it was obvious.
sasha stood a few paces behind us, “we’re going to the beach,” she interrupted, high pitch in her tone. in a swift movement connie jumped off of me, standing on his own feet again. going over to jean, he ruffled his hair, earning a hard slap to the arm from him, “cut it out,” jean bit.
they didn’t distract me for long, “no way, we’re literally balls deep in finals.” the workload was so heavy, i don’t think i could even have fun without feeling guilty about it. i really am starting to regret this. connie started snickering,  “your boyfriend’s waiting in the car.” he continued to torment me with kissing noises; but the mention of eren was all i needed to ditch my studies.
“kay, fine, but we can’t stay long,” i heaved a sigh, showing dramatics to guilt trip sash and connie. jean gave a light hearted scoff, “what were you saying about finals?” rolling my eyes, i hit his shoulder hard as i quickly leapt up from my spot on the hard floor.
i didn’t wait for any of them to catch up as i made my way down the apartment complex; running towards eren’s car as soon as i spotted it. throwing the car door open, i all but jumped in, skipping over the center console to be closer to eren.
eren’s face lit up, eyes glinting. he pushed my body back slightly with the force of his own, cupping my face as he pressed a kiss into my lips. i melted into him easily; the feeling of eren comfortably familiar now. he opened his mouth wide, trying to suck as much of me in as he could. a smile tugged on my lips at his desperation, causing him to pull back.
he scanned my face, then trailed down my body. making sure i was still in tact, “i missed you so much, pretty.” he pulled my face to him again, placing a soft kiss on my forehead. i couldn’t hold back my giggle; just happy to see him, “stop with the pet names,” i complained but the butterflies were strongly present in my stomach. i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, either.
a shuffling in the back seat caused my head to turn. i faced armin, features slightly scrunched in awkwardness. i looked away, hiding my embarrassment, “sorry armin, didn’t even know you were here,”
eren laughed viciously, “armin don’t pull the uncomfortable act, you were doing the same with annie.” armin’s face lit up a bright red, his eyes going wide. “what? no- i wasn’t!” he tripped over his words; trying to profess an innocence i didn’t have to see to know was false. “okay, freak your shit armin,” i butted in, watching his face turn impossibly redder.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
jean waved a bucket of fries in my face, “you sure you don’t want any?” i pulled my body away from the stench, further into eren's body. his legs closed around my torso, holding me tighter at my movement. “it’s really not funny,” i pushed jean’s hand away. armin and mikasa were huddled on a different set of blankets, exchanging a look at my refusal.
it was moments like this that proved to me it was a good idea to run away with eren. our closest friends were already getting suspicious of my behavior. eren stroked through my hair with his fingers; futile as the wind kept blowing it in every direction.
mikasa shivered, “why the hell did we go to the beach, anyway?” her teeth jittered lightly. i was thankful my body kept me from feeling most of the chill. eren pointed to the shoreline; where sasha and connie splashed each other in the ocean, “it was connie’s idea.”
“we need to stop listening to him,” armin's head shook. mikasa raised the bottle of vodka in her hand and took another shot from it. she extended it to me after. i stared at it for a few seconds before looking over at eren. he had a small smirk on his face; knowing i would never get drunk again. despite that fact, i raised it to my lips and took a long swallow from the bottle.
the liquid was warm going down my throat. but only for a second as my body seemed to neutralize the heat. the normally sour sting of vodka was amplified; almost unbearable. i brought the bottle back down and scrunched my features together. armin laughed, “i’m not the only lightweight anymore, huh.”
skipping over eren, i passed it to jean, “can it, i’ll catch back up soon.” i tried to keep the frown from showing, knowing that i would never catch up. the taste was subsiding, and there were no other signs that i had even consumed alcohol. mikasa stood from their towel, grabbing it up as armin followed, “we’re gonna warm up by the cars,” she wrapped it around her body, hiding the shiver.
“‘kay, we’ll wrap up here soon,” eren responded before tying his hands to my body again. jean laid back on his towel as his shivers subsided with the alcohol, “so you really can’t get drunk?”
“nope,” i sighed my answer, leaning into eren further.
“damn, that must really suck,” he smirked, exchanging a glance at me, then eren. connie and sasha had emerged from the water, their screams becoming less muffled as they approached. connie broke into a sprint, heading towards jean. he was already laughing in preparation, before shaking his body violently; dripping all of the ocean water on jean.
jean jumped up immediately, “fucking asshole!” he yelled, already beginning to chase a fleeing connie. sasha giggled as she ran after them; arms held out to jean. my chest heaved with a laugh, bumping up against eren’s, “dumbasses.”
laying my head flat on his chest, my phone ringing caused me to retract it right back.
(xxx)-929-6785:
could we meet at the cafe?
my eyebrows furrowed, and i could feel eren lurch in curiosity behind me. “the fuck?” i muttered lightly, more to myself. i knew who that number belonged to; even if i didn’t have it saved anymore. why would she be texting me?
“who is it?” eren laid his hand over my shoulder; to offer comfort, or draw me out of my thoughts, i wasn’t sure. “it’s historia?” i mumbled again in confusion, but eren heard it. i held my phone screen so he could read the message; i felt him stiffen slightly. “you should go,” he was confident, barely had to think about it.
his grip on my shoulder squeezed in reassurance. i knew he was right; and i would regret not meeting with her. but i couldn’t help but feel like i was fifteen again; insecure and cleaning to the comfort of historia. no, i thought, i’m not doing it for that.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
i stood outside of the coffee shop an hour later, hesitating to go in. eren waited in the parking lot, it would be easy enough to go back. i wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity, though, and that thought is what let me open the doors and walk in.
her blonde hair was easy to spot, she looked over to me almost immediately. a hesitant smile was on her face, unsure if she should even be smiling. it was weird to see that expression directed towards me; it had been so long since we had really looked at each other. she didn’t have any coffee in front of her, just her hands that were intertwined with each other.
i sat down opposite her, mimicking her facial expressions. just as unsure as she was. we made awkward eye contact again, “hey,” my tone was quiet, not sure of what to say. her lip twitched, “i wanted to reach out, when hitch told me about the break in, but.. it just felt false.”
historia seemed somewhat nervous, spouting words without really thinking them through. i didn’t know what to say, so i nodded instead. we both looked at each other uncomfortably again. it was hard to believe we had once been inseparable; now we passed for two strangers. “i, um- i’m really sorry,” she began again, stuttering over her words with uncertainty.
“for what?” i couldn’t help but probe. there was a lot for us to apologize for, but i wondered what part of the story historia was even sorry for. maybe this was a bad idea. “for sleeping with porco,” her tone was finally definitive. definitely a bad idea. hearing those words caused me to pick at my cuticles. it didn’t bring me any relief, as my skin stitched itself together quickly.
i sighed, “that’s really not what i need an apology for,” i said it quietly. suddenly, i was submissive in her presence. like i still had something to show for. each of us stood still, breathing audibly, “why now? we’ve been going to sina together for two years?”
she shrugged, somehow still making the action look delicate, “i heard you might be transferring. didn’t want a stone to go unturned.” i couldn’t gauge how that made me feel. i guess i should be happy she didn’t want me to leave without a resolution? after we move, i likely won’t see historia again. how does that make me feel? i still couldn’t decipher it. “how do you know?”
“it’s obvious when you pick up extra classes at the end of the year,” she humorlessly laughed. if i didn’t know her any better, i’d say she was hurt. it made it even more apparent that i shouldn’t mend the friendship we once had. “guess so,” shrugging, i looked away from her gaze.
historia sucked in a breath, “but i am sorry.. for everything that went down between us, it’s all my fault.” it was easy to believe her; but i wasn’t naive. does this mean she truly did love me all those years? i couldn’t bring myself to ask. “it isn’t all your fault, but i forgive you,” i tried to keep my voice steady.
hearing that from historia finally felt like a book closing. i felt like i could finally move on from that chapter in my life. i got up from the booth, ready to return back to my present life. “hey, y/n?” historia pulled me back in, still seated, “are we ever going to talk again?”
my steps faltered, the words sounding weird coming from her, “i don’t think so, no.” maybe if my life was different, i would run back to historia. instead, i took my leave to the exit, making my way back to eren.
the cold air was comforting; i hadn’t realized how stuffy i had gotten in that booth. there was a small pressure gone from my back. the little bit of historia i had always carried around with me. i was happy for the closure; it made the move a definite choice. nothing was really keeping me here any longer.
opening the door to eren’s car, i sat down, somewhat shell shocked. i was still absorbing the conversation; still taking all of it in. i was sure myself a year ago would be jumping for joy, and running back into hisotira’s comforting arms. “how’d it go?” eren broke the silence, tone walking on eggshells around me. i shrugged, unsure of how to unravel it to him. “that bad, huh?” he laughed through his nose.
“it wasn’t bad, i just don’t know how to feel,” it was the truth. i couldn’t make sense of the emotions stirring in my stomach. “are you glad you listened to me?” he mocked, a goofy smile spreading on his face. i pushed his shoulder; which he didn’t budge from.
i rolled my eyes, moving my neck with them, “i hate that you’re phrasing it like that, but yeah.” eren pulled the gear shift down into drive, “i have something that’ll brighten your mood.” his hand found mine, interlocking our fingers, and giving my palm a squeeze. “what?” i tried to fight the smile on my face.
“it’s a surprise,” he dragged the words out, taunting me. “come on, just tell me!” eren turned his focus on navigating the road, already starting to tune my pleas out, “it’s not a telling-thing… trust me you’ll want to see it.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
the blindfold eren tied to me was beginning to irritate me. “is it ready yet?” i asked, although i could still hear his fingers clicking on the laptop. i heard him grunt, and i knew he was rolling his eyes, “i don’t understand how you have so little patience.” his hand pushed against my back, throwing me off-kilter.
i groaned, “i don’t like being blindfolded.” eren’s breath grazed the side of my neck “really?” he whispered in my ear. a shiver went down my spine, and i clenched my legs together to hide the reaction before pushing him back with my elbow. “okay, fine. done,” he chuckled.
eren pulled the blindfold off, tussling my hair in the process. i didn’t have time to fix it, eyes focusing on his laptop screen in front of me. “eren, what is that,” although, i already knew the answer. it was a cottage; similar to the cabin he took me to. it was quaint; but cozy. the exterior was covered in lush vines, and it was surrounded by what looked like acres of empty land.
“it’s a house. our house actually,” i peeked over at him. he was already staring into my eyes, a satisfied smile on his face. “OUR house?” my tone was obnoxiously confused. it was obvious we would need a house.. but eren took the time to find one himself. a perfect one; and it would be ours. the feeling was so surreal i couldn’t begin to describe it.
eren laughed at my reaction, wrapping his hands around my waist and fiddling with my skin underneath my clothes, “well, yeah as long as you like it.” i flipped through more of the pictures, looking at the interior. the rooms were old fashioned; down to the kitchen appliances. “i love it.”
the photos showed a closer view of the land around it, “there’s enough room for farmland, so we can own animals.” the next was a picture of a small brown barn. i couldn’t keep the smile off my face imagining what life would be like there, “really?” i still couldn’t believe it. “mhm,” he mumbled, a goofy grin still glued to his face.
“are there vampires in germany?” i hadn’t thought about it. i suddenly wondered if we were trading in grisha for a worse masochist. “i can only assume so. but grisha was too caught up with the vampires here that he never cared to venture out,” it didn’t bring me much comfort.
i turned my body to face eren fully, “it’s perfect,” i whispered, bringing my face closer to his. our lips connected, and his grip on my waist tightened. he picked up my body to position myself on his lap; i opened my mouth allowing his tongue to enter mine.
my hands traced up his body, stopping to grip his moving jawline. his hands made their way up my shirt, two fingers squeezing my nipple. i pulled back from him, letting out a soft moan. the thought hit me then, “what if you get tired of me?” i couldn’t help but voice it.
his features turned serious in an instant, “i won’t,” he answered immediately, and confidently. when i thought about it, i hadn’t known eren for that long. it doesn’t matter, my mind contradicted. “you can’t know that.”
“i can,” he pulled his hand from underneath my shirt, cupping my cheeks while squeezing them lightly. “you’ve been on my mind longer than you know.. i’m not going to get tired of you,” i wasn’t quite sure what he meant, but it warmed my heart anyway. like a natural reaction.
i nodded, “i’m more worried you’ll get tired of me,” eren laughed, squeezing my cheeks even harder, squishing my lips together. “impossible,” i giggled, shaking off his grip.
Beyond the Monster
Holy shit, this one is SIX years old (2019)
It definitely shows too (*sigh* cringe is dead but my era shows)
So, the OG concept was that, two years ago, a zombie outbreak made teens Rhys, Kiki, Jon, and Zyrann form a group to survive. Now they're nineteen, almost twenty, on their way to South Carolina, where there's supposedly an outpost.
However, Zyrann(1st person POV) gets sepereated from his group(I honest to god thought Zyrann was a girlie lmao oops) and has a bad accident. Thankfully, they are saved by Zero and his wolf, Echo, who later agree to help him reunite with his friends.
(Also Zy's group calls the zombies "mutants" while Zero calls them "roamers")
Prolog
“Kiki Taria,”
“Here!”
“Jon Rider?”
“Present and accounted for.”
“Rhys Brewer?”
“I’m not late!”
The rest of the class, including our teacher Mr. Dendwin,laughed at Rhys’s usual “jokes”, if you can even call them that. I never found Rhys to be funny, or Jon to be smart, or Kiki to be pretty, but they were. Some could say they were the best part about humans, their minds beyond what is natural.
That’s major league bs.
They were like the rest of us; human.
And yet I found myself being friends with these three. . .
Not my choice, parents are friends so we spent many an afternoon at each other's houses and played in the backyard.
Well. They played and I sat in a corner reading.
I do that all too much; read.
I read all I can, whatever you put in front of me I’ll read it. Something else. . . I draw, whatever that’s good for. I’m actually drawing right now, ignoring what Mr. Dendwin is saying other than listening for my own name.
“Zyrann Zen.”
I simply just raised my hand, a custom between my teachers and I. They simply mark me down and I don’t have to speak.
I adjusted my mask, and continued to draw.
Kiki passed me a note, neatly folded up in that “perfect” way.
She didn’t write it tho, the handwriting belongs to Jon;
Hey Zyrann,
Would you like to join Kiki, Rhys, and I for lunch in the library? We plan on going there again after school. Also, Rhys said it was okay that you could stay with him.
Just show up.
-Jon.
I’m going to show, lunch is boring and there is no heart in my home. . .
Chapter 1
Where the heart is
“Wake up, Zyrann.” Kiki had to shake me in order for me to wake up.
I just looked up as if her shaking me didn’t, almost, give me a concussion. “Kiki, where are Rhys and Jon?”
“They took the jeep to Misty Hollows,” Kiki said, she started to cook an MRE we found.  And of course they took the jeep, that’s Jon’s intelligence for you. He’s a smart cookie.
“Kiki, you’re cooking it wrong.”
“What?”
I re-showed her how to actually cook an MRE. Thankfully we even had MREs, none of us have anything to make a fire with.
Please don’t underestimate Kiki, she really is smart but she gets absent-minded a lot. Not her fault, actually, it’s a trait that her family passed down. She use to complete her homework and tests that way; staring off into space and letting her subconscious do all the work, she never got a wrong answer.
Kiki and I had shared the MRE, she said the boys had shared a can of peaches before they headed out. Misty Hollows looks promising for medical supplies as well as food, with little to no mutants.
Mutants. . . Right.
Mutants are the equivalent of the roaming, walking, crawling, ugly dead that people love to butcher from comics. But, our version of mutants are different since they separate into categories.
There are the walkers; they can’t run or move at all unless it is walking. They are really easy to avoid and super weak, and may be pathetic if you die from one of them. A horde is the same way, except it’s twice as terrifying.
Then runners; Only run, and not as weak as the walkers but weak enough to be considered weak. They are fast, faster than the average human, and hard to run from. A horde is. . . imagine a large group and they are trying to get you and eat you while you try and run ahead. Yup, that’s scary.
Crawlers are typically legless, and that’s not a joke. They crawl, they sneak, they bite. And some can crawl on walls. . . I like to call them spiders.
Next is the Brawlers. They’re twice the size of a six foot human, and could probably one punch you. They typically are surrounded by a horde of mutants, walkers, so the walkers can find the humans and the brawler can destroy them. In one world, they are demons. In the other world, they are like protective mothers who are only trying to feed their babies. I’m not joking; I observed a brawler and her crowd and she literally grabbed a carcass and gave it to them.
The father, or so I’ve seen, is what we call the Gladiator. They are two feet taller than Brawlers and can destroy entire buildings as tall as New York’s skyscrapers. And the Gladiator, because there is only one or two, remains in Manhattan eating whatever he can catch.
Thankfully we managed to avoid Brawlers and the Gladiator, but that’s because we stick to the trees since Brawlers and Gladiator cannot go through them without damaging themselves first.
“Zyrann. . .” Kiki said.
“Yup.”
Kiki simply shrugged. “If we were to make it to South Carolina, do you think we could make a pit stop in Sunstone Valley? It’s a pretty small town but I know where it is.”
I nodded. “I’m with you, I know you want to find Hayden. But, really, it’s up to Jon.”
Jon is our leader, he makes the major and most of the final decisions. For two reasons. One; Jon is smart. Two; Jon is logical.
But, knowing Jon, he’ll let us go to Sunstone.
Crack.
We both stopped moving, and looked around making little noise as possible. I pulled out the pistol and readied it, Kiki took out her’s.
“Zyrann. . . We don’t have silencers!” Kiki whispered to me.
“I know,” I whispered back. “Don’t shoot unless absolutely necessary. Run if its a walker or crawler, shoot if its a runner.”
Jon’s gonna hate me if I get Kiki killed.
“Stand.” I whispered as I stood myself. Kiki followed. “Get your bag.”
Kiki, quietly, put on her bag. She keeps the food and water. I already have my bag on, I keep track of whatever they miss. Jon has back-up weapons and ammo, Rhys takes the medical supplies.
A surprise from our joker; He’s a decent doctor.
Kiki got out her walkie-talkie. “Rhys, Jon, come get us. There’s something here and it’s not friendly.”
Jon’s static voice came through; “We’re coming back, meet us by the road.”
“Okay.”
Kiki and I just got out of there, the woods I mean, and we waited by the road at the ready. Honestly, I’m sure we just panicked and it was just a mouse or rabbit or something. . . But I rather be safe than sorry. Especially these days.
That same black jeep sped on over to where Kiki and I were waiting.
“Hey party people!” Rhys said, thankfully Jon was the one driving. “Get in already! Zyrann, your mask is crooked.”
I fixed my mask as I got in.
“Where we heading off?” Kiki asked.
“South Carolina, where else?” Rhys deserved that slap to his head.
Jon took off before he answered. “I was thinking we’d go to Redwick, then we could make a stop to Silverkeep, and then Icemeet.”
That would take us a week, that’s without pit stops or resting or sleeping.
“Did I make you mute, Zyrann?” Rhys asked, we had been driving for an hour or two and he and Kiki switched seats.
I pointed to my mask.
“Sorry,” Rhys said. “Can you talk, please? I’m real sorry!”
I looked out the window, completely ignoring Rhys.
My mask. . . Yes, my mask. . .
My mask is just a plain white hockey mask that covers all of my face, the mouth area had a red ‘x’ over it. . . I’ve been wearing this mask my entire life, from birth and soon to death. And, for some reason, whenever someone mentions it I immediately don’t talk for the rest of the day or longer. I remember going silent for an entire week because someone mentioned it.
I also remember not talking for a month when Rhys attempted to touch it.
Heh, he still tries to touch it.
“Come on Zyrann!” Rhys whined. “I’m sorry!”
I ignored him.
Jon and Kiki looked at one another, they nodded.
Kiki looked back at us. “We need to make a pit stop for gas, in Civil.”
Jon drove into Civil, parking the car away from the gas station. Kiki got out with Jon and they both went to get gas. . . What?
An awkward silence loomed between Rhys and I, Kiki and Jon weren’t coming back until he and I made up or something stupid like that. But talking is out of question.
That doesn’t mean Rhys isn’t going to try.
“So,” He started with. “For once, it’s not raining huh? It’s nice out, I like it!”
Although I agree, I’m still not talking Rhys.
“Remember when you use to sleep over?”
Rhys. . . Why would you bring that up? What are you doing, Rhys?
I shifted my gaze over to Rhys, he was looking down at his hands, which shifted nervously.
Rhys continued; “I was always confused on why you wore that mask, even when you sleep. I always thought that is must of been uncomfortable. . . You know I almost saw you without your mask once?”
I twitched.
“Funny enough, it was two years ago. . . Before everything went down.”
That day?
“Yeah,” Rhys said, he noticed I twitched. “You were in the guest room and Mom sent me to go get you, you left the door opened. I almost caught you in the mirror but I opened the door and I didn’t get the chance. . .”
Yeah, I hate remembering that day.
We were seventeen, last year of school. I do take my mask off, occasionally. Like bathing or sleeping, only when I’m by myself, and just because. I wanted to take it off that day, just to remember what I looked like.
I stared myself for a good ten minutes, at my dark brown hair and way too “perfect” shade of blue eyes, my fairly translucent skin. . . Not an ounce of my father was there, just mother. Father said I was everything she was; looks, personality, skills, even our childhood was the same.
But I doubt Mother would be happy with Father, she use to be so cheerful though that it's hard to imagine her being angry.
Back to that day. . .
Rhys had entered my room, bright and cheery and thrown a mouthful of breakfast puns at me. I had to quickly put my mask on, it was crooked so I fixed it and played it off as if that was what I was doing.
Then, his mother screamed.
We both ran to see what was the matter. Rhys mother was on the floor, being eaten alive by some random lady that had spikes growing from her back. You could just see the life being drained. . .
I pushed Rhys back into my room, locked the door, and just started to panic.
Rhys had to sit and he started to cry, his sobs stung me. . . Stabbed right through the heart.
“She. . . she. . .” He could barely speak.
I sat beside him and comforted him the best I could.
While Rhys cried into my shoulder, I called Jon. He and I made a plan and he drove to pick us up after Kiki. Rhys and I had exited through the window. And, we went from there.
How can I stay silent after that?
“Rhys. . .” I barely managed to get out. “Come here. . .”
Rhys moved over to me, I instantly wrapped him into a hug.
I hate this! I hate all of this!
My best friend had to suffer, watching his mother get eaten before his very eyes!
No. . . stop it Zyrann. . . you knew who she was. . . what kind of person she was. . .
You have to hold him, you’re all he has left anymore.
“Sorry Rhys. . .”
“It’s fine, my fault anyways.”
“No. . .”
Rhys laughed. “I really do want to see you though.”
“No. . .”
“I can’t just,” Rhys reached for my mask. “Pull this off and-”
I grabbed his wrist. “No.”
“Can you say something other than no?”
I smiled. “Yes.”
Rhys rolled his eyes. “I hate you.”
“No.”
“Not again! I will hit you!”
“Try.”
I immediately exited the car and sprinted towards Jon and Kiki, with Rhys chasing me. I hid behind Jon and couldn’t stop laughing, or giggling, doesn’t make a big difference.
“We can’t leave the kids alone for two minutes!” Jon said.
“We’re older than you!” Rhys retaliated.
That part is true, but we’re all nineteen and soon to be twenty for Rhys and I.
“Aw, come on, Jon,” Kiki said. “At least Zyrann is feeling better,”
Jon nodded. “Come on, back to the car we go.”
Usually, one of us would groan or complain, even Jon, but by now. . . I’m sure we’re use to the road in the two year span we’ve been driving. The first car was Jon’s, that ran out of gas. Our second car got kidnapped by false friends. This is our third car.
Right now; Jon’s driving, Kiki is looking at CDs, and Rhys was searching through his bag.
“Rock or Punk?” Kiki asked.
Jon voted on “Rock.”
Rhys voted on “Punk.”
Kiki looked at me and I just shrugged. Personally, I like rock music and punk isn’t bad either. I’m not real picky when it comes to music, same way with most things.
“Um,” Kiki closed her eyes and randomly chose one. Rock. “Oh! Okay!”
Rhys rolled his eyes. Rhys hates rock music, for some reason, and doesn’t like punk music either. He just has some type of hatred towards it, so he went with the music he hated less.
To end Rhys suffering, I took out some ear plugs I had. As I mentioned before, I keep everything I consider useful. That doesn’t mean I don’t carry food, water, or weapons.
“Here.” I said, giving Rhys the ear plugs.
He happily took them and smiled when he couldn’t hear a thing.
We had to make a stop for the night, we were all too tired to continue. So Jon parked the car off road, we were surrounded by forest. We all got out, Jon sat in the cargo back of the jeep while Rhys and I chilled on the ground. Kiki took out two cans of oranges, which I opened with one of the two can openers I had.
“You can eat Rhys.” I said, giving him the can.
“You gotta eat too Zyrann.”
“I’m fine, I’m not hungry anyway.”
“Eat.”
“No.”
“Zyrann!”
I smiled, even though Rhys can’t see it.
I stood and started to walk towards the forest.
“Where you going?” Rhys asked.
“My business.” I said and continued to walk away.
“You should take your bag.” Jon said.
I shrugged. “I’m going to be gone for two minutes, I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
Honestly, I wasn’t planning on doing what they thought I was. I was going to be by myself for two minutes, chill in a tree without my mask on.
I did find a suitable tree that I was able to climb up and just relax in. I took off my mask and breathe in the air. A gentle breeze blew, my hair moved ever so slightly with the leaves of the trees and the grass on the ground. I stared at my mask, just for a moment, before switching my gaze back to the trees.
“HOOOOOOOOOOWL!”
The call of a wolf’s echoed from somewhere in the forest, they are not common here other than in wildlife parks and zoos. I never liked either, no one likes being caged or watched, or laughed at.
Wolves are beautiful creatures, I read many tales about wolves - both fiction and non-fiction. I like the black wolves the most, the white wolves taking second, followed by greys and the others are just fourth together. It was the way I grew up; liking dark things more than fairy tales. Mother was the same way, she read to me these stories she called “creepypastas”, essentially internet scary stories spread around. My favorite is-
I guess I really am like Mother, getting off topic.
“HOOOOOOOOOOWL!”
Hmpt. That wolf likes howling, maybe it's unaware of how the mutants work. They love sound. It’s not about sight, many mutants have bad eyesight, but the other senses will guide them like a parent with their child.
I do not blame the wolf for not knowing, it sounds really young. Wolves live to six or eight years in the wild, maybe it’s right around two years old. . .
When a minute passed, I put on my mask and made my way down the tree and started the trek back to the group.
I instantly became loss.
I ended up just wandering the forest for minutes at end, sure that everyone was worried sick about me.
The wolf had howled again, it was closer to me than before. . .
“Shi-!” I wasn’t looking where I was going and completely, blindly, fell off a cliff.
I’m not even exaggerating, I fell and rolled on the side of a cliff into a river at least ten feet deep and sunk to the bottom.
There was no current, so I just stayed at the bottom. . .
I lost consciousness. . . In a sea of black. . .
Chapter 2
Wrong type of person
“Shh Echo,” A voice said, it sounded male but soft. “Hand me the disinfectant. . . thanks pup.”
I felt a sharp sting to my side, it made me move and let out a similar sound to pain.
“Easy, Echo,” The voice spoke. “He’s just waking up. No, pup, leave his mask alone.”
I blinked a couple times, the sun blinded me and I immediately shut them. I went to sit up but a hand was placed on my chest and kept me on the ground.
“Don’t move,” The voice said. “You hurt yourself and will take out your stitches.”
“S-Stitches?” I managed to squeak out.
“Yes, you cut your head open. It’s not as bad as you’d think.”
I felt someone, maybe the person the voice belongs to, wrap some bandages around my stomach and side.
The voice chuckled. “You took quite a beating, falling off of Divers’ Cliff like that- Echo! Down girl!”
I felt a pressure against my chest making me cough, it was gone just a second after, followed by a whimper.
“Shush Echo, I know you’re trying to help, pup.”
“Who. . . are you?” I asked.
“Drag the bag under the tree, pup.” The voice avoided my question. “Yes Echo, I’m sure I can pick him up.”
“What?”
“Hold still.”
He placed his hands and arms on my back and under my knees and lifted me off the ground. It hurt and it took all of me not to complain. He moved me only a couple feet away in the shade of a tree and had me lay against it.
“You’re out of the sun,” The voice said. “You can open your eyes.”
Which I did.
Before me was a man kneeling in front of me. He had platinum blonde hair and dark green eyes, pale as me, wearing a dark green hoodie with the hood up and a pair of jeans and running shoes. He wasn’t frowning, or smiling, he was just there. . .
Staring at me.
“Hello. . .” I soon became very nervous, and this was all I could say.
“Hello.” He said, his voice surprised me, despite me already hearing it.
A sleek black wolf nudged a dark green bag at this man’s side, it had blue eyes the shade of the sky.
“Thank you, Echo,” The man said, petting the wolf’s ears and neck. “Good pup, arencha girl?”
The wolf accepted the man’s petting and licked his hand. The wolf, a female named Echo, turned to look at me.
“He’s all right, pup.” The man assured Echo. “He may be dazed though, so be soft.”
Echo nodded, then licked my cheek like a puppy meeting a new person.
The man looked up at the sky, mumbled something I couldn’t hear, then turned to Echo.
“Echo, hunt.”
Echo nodded and ran faster than the wind in a certain direction.
The man held his hand out to me, but my nervousness didn’t let me shake it. The man just simply put it down, rummaged through his bag, and took out a pill bottle. He took out one and put the bottle back in his bag.
“This should help,” He said. “It’s a pain pill, nothing too high but it will help nonetheless.”
“I’m not in pain.” I said.
“You will be.”
“Is that a-”
“A threat?” The man cut me off. “No, but soon enough when your body becomes fully conscious with your mind your muscles will be sore and your bruises will be pain filled. Please, for your sake and mine, take it.”
I, extremely slowly, took the pill and swallowed it.
“I. . .” What do I even say?
“Tell me your name,” The man said.
I’m glad I don’t have to start the conversation.
“Zy. . . Zyrann.”
The man nodded. “Nice to meet you, although I would have preferred a different situation instead of saving you from drowning.”
“Th. . . thank you.”
The man shrugged. “It’s nothing, but I advise you to be more careful Zyrann.”
The way he said my name. . . it sent chills down my spine.
“What. . . is your. . . name?”
The man hesitated, he went to open his mouth but quickly shut it.
“Please?” I begged.
The man nodded. “I’m Zero.”
Zero. . .
Echo came back with a brown rabbit in her mouth.
“Good girl, Echo,” Zero said. Zero stood and went a bit away from me. He took a foot long stick, maybe, and tied a rope to it. Echo had some dry grass and small twigs and put it besides Zero. Zero took his rope and stick and another stick and did this. . . fancy way of making a fire.
He made smoke, blew on it, and a small flame blazed. He had Echo fetch some stick and made a fire roar. He skinned the rabbit, put the fur aside, stuck a stick through it and made a quick spit.
I gagged at the skinning and the stick part.
Zero looked up at me as I did it and said; “Don’t throw up, you’ve lost too much fluid as it is.”
Echo rubbed her muzzle against my stomach, which made it feel better. I lifted my hand a bit off the ground, Echo tucked her head under my hand and let me rest it there and pet her.
Than I instantly remembered my friends.
“Jon, Kiki, Rhys. . .” I said their names and tried to move, but Echo placed her head on my stomach and prevented me from going far.
“Easy Echo,” Zero said. “He can’t go as far as you’d think.”
Echo eased herself but still wouldn’t let me go anywhere.
“Your friends ditched you.” Zero said bluntly.
“Wh-”
“Too many roamers. . .” Zero explained. “They looked, but they couldn’t stay. They are miles beyond us and it will take you a while to even catch them.”
“We’re heading. . . South Carolina. . .”
Zero gave me an odd look. “Why would you head to the Carolinas?”
“Outpost. . . civilization. . .”
Zero sighed. “Oh. . .”
“Need to go. . . Sunstone. . . Valley.”
“That’s beyond a mistake.” Zero said. “There are two gangs who fight there all the time, the Blue Phantoms and Lost Souls. They’ll be killed on sight, or if they’re unlucky, taken to the camps.”
“My friend,” I coughed, screw this pain. “Kiki, her boyfriend’s there. Hayden Mayyor-”
“Mayyor.” Zero spat. “He’s such an asshole, did you not know he leads the Blue Phantoms?”
“No. . . Hayden’s a good man.”
“Who kills innocents at will, without complaint or hesitation.”
“Shut it.” I hissed, a weak hiss but still a hiss. “I know Hayden, he’s no murderer.”
“Guess you’re wrong.”
I wanted to scream at him, but I had no energy to do so.
Zero sighed. “Sorry. . .”
I didn’t speak.
Zero took out a hunting knife and skinned a small chunk of the rabbit off, inspected it, then gave it to Echo.
“Not cooked enough,” Zero explained. “It’s too raw, pink. Echo, you can go hunt for yourself or scout our surroundings. Sixty feet radius.”
Echo got off me and ran off.
“Do you truly plan on going to the Carolinas? To Sunstone?” Zero asked.
I nodded. “Of course I do, I’m not going to abandon my friends.”
Zero sighed, he sighs an awful lot. “Then I wish you luck.”
“You can’t come with me?” I asked.
Zero shook his head.
“I’ll die without you helping me, I can’t make it on my own. . .”
Zero didn’t speak at first, he remained in thought for moments on end.
“Fine.” He said finally. “I’ll take you to the Carolinas, or you reunite with your friends, but I’m leaving after that. Got it?”
I nodded. “Yes, thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet.”
Zero cut another chunk of the rabbit off, inspected it, then ate it.
“Rabbit’s done Zy.”
I could move, despite how sore everything was and that I was beyond tired and that it was slow and filled with pain. I sat up from my slouching and held out my hand. Zero gave me a sliver of rabbit, which I ate slowly. Zero ate some, but he took the rabbit skin, stood, and walked off.
“Where are you going. . ?”  I asked.
“Just over here.” Zero said, he went only a couple yards away, knelt down and dipped the rabbit fur into. . . water? He was cleaning it, and came back.
I watched as Zero took out a small suitcase box with many spools of different color thread and varies of needles. He started to sew away on the fur, turning them into. .
Gloves?
When Zero was finishing up, Echo came back and pawed at the ground. She pawed three times, and pointed her head to my right.
“Okay,” Zero put aside the fur gloves and put everything away into his bag. He put on his bag, took the gloves, and put the gloves on me. “We have to leave, Zy.”
“I kinda. . . can’t move fast.”
“I know.”
“I’ll try and-”
Zero picked me up as he did before, was he seriously going to carry me?
He was seriously going to carry me!
Zero carried me out of the woods and onto the road, Echo followed closely.
“Will you have to carry me for long?” I asked.
Zero chuckled. “No, although I’m sure you wouldn’t mind. In an hour, you’ll be able to walk fine and not slow as a snail.”
“Although I’m sure you wouldn’t mind?’ What’s that supposed to mean?”
Zero didn’t respond.
Remember Us Together? (Part 4)
(2 years after their first meeting)
Jake’s eyes burned as he continually stared at the bright screen of his computer, fingers typing incessantly upon the keyboard. Glancing at the time in the left hand corner of his screen, he sighed as he read 3:42am. He had tried to sleep, really he did, but insomnia still haunted him. It wouldn’t hurt just to rest his eyes for a bit, lay in his bed, let his mind wander for a while, right? Afterall, then he could be near MC. Quickly prompted to action by the last thought, he hurriedly shut his computer down into sleep mode, making his way out of his study. As bare feet padded across the cold hardwood floor, his blue eyes turned to the numerous photos that were hanging on the hall walls. Noting that the bedroom door was shut, he flicked the switch on and light flooded the hallway. After squinting until his eyes adjusted to the brightness, his attention returned to the framed pictures. Jake’s lips pulled into a small smirk as the picture of him and MC sprawled out in the snow smiled back at him.
“You’re gonna catch a cold, MC.” Jake shook his head at his girlfriend’s antics as she threw a handful of the powdered snow into the air, watching it gently shower back down on her face. “We should leave before you get hypothermia.”
“But we just got here,” MC whined. “Isn’t it simply beautiful?”
“Very,” the young hacker said, heart starting to melt at the sight of her happiness.
MC rolled her eyes, a faint blush coating her cheeks. “I meant the snow, you dork.”
“Oh that?” Jake smirked, “It’s okay.”
“Have you ever made a snow angel?” MC questioned, a mischievous look on her face.
“Maybe once in my life?” He raised an eyebrow.
Without warning MC pushed the hacker into the snow, but he quickly reached up and grabbed her coat, pulling her down with him. “This wasn’t quite what I had planned,” MC blushed at the closeness.
“I don’t mind,” Jake shrugged as his arm found its place around her waist.
“Yeah?”
Jake suddenly sputtered as a pile of snow hit his face, “MC!”
MC giggled as she tried to jump to her feet, but he yanked her back down. “What is it, Jake?”
“You’re going to be the death of me.” He shook his head.
“Better than hypothermia though, right?” MC asked with a shy smile.
“Maybe,” a grin appeared on Jake’s lips as he leaned down and kissed her. “Just slightly.”
Dan and Jessy had just then appeared in the park, causing the redhead to whip her phone out. Jessy had actually done it, she had managed to catch a picture of Jake grinning, but in his defense he couldn’t help it when MC’s contagious smile was by his side.
Jake’s eyes shifted to the next picture that showed MC and him gazing at their first house together, his arm around her shoulder, backs facing the camera. This was the house they were in now, the house that was adorned by these beautiful frozen memories, their forever home.
“Did we do the right thing?” MC asked as she looked at the small house in front of them. The white picket fence surrounded the couple, the light blue-colored house silently inviting them in.
“Yes,” Jake nodded. “It’s perfect.”
“You really want to do this?”
“Do I really want a future with you, a life by your side? I’m hoping that’s a rhetorical question, MC.” Jake locked eyes with her.
“Promise me you won’t ever regret it,” MC’s eyes filled with tears. “Cause I don’t want to live without you, Jake.”
“Don’t cry, please.” The hacker gently brushed his thumbs across her cheeks, wiping away the tears. “Trust me, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
A smile formed on MC’s lips, then she leaned upwards and their lips met, him kissing her back.
Jake couldn’t help but shake his head, why on earth would he regret living the rest of his life with her? She was the best thing that had ever happened to him, a true blessing in a world laced with darkness. She was the one who comforted him when nightmares racked his body, the one who patiently listened as he ranted for hours on end about computer programs not working. She was the one who traced over the numerous scars that dotted his upper body, the one who could calm his nerves and insecurities whenever she was by his side. How was it possible that he had got to be this lucky, this blessed?
More memories replayed in his head as his gaze kept shifting to other photos, finally he turned off the light. Why was he reminiscing over the past when he could actually be next to her in the present? He gingerly pushed against the door, hinges squeaking softly as it swung open. Moonlight poured in through the half-open shades, casting a glow on the bed. MC lay peacefully on the bed, her hair sprawled across the pillow. Her body was facing Jake’s side of the bed, one arm reaching out as if an attempt to find him in her sleep. The covers had pooled at her waist, revealing how she sported one of his hoodies as her nightshirt. As he neared the bed, he could hear the quiet and adorable snores escaping her, causing his heart to melt. Even like this, her hair all tangled, lips slightly chapped, eyes closed, she was still stunning. He eased himself into the bed and gently pulled her to his chest as he laid down.
“Jake?” MC mumbled as a yawn escaped her lips, eyes remaining closed.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s okay,” MC smiled. “I don’t mind waking up like this.”
“I was looking at the photos on our walls,” Jake whispered.
MC opened her eyes, the soft gleam of moonlight causing them to shine. “Yeah?”
“I want to make more memories with you, MC.” Jake said.
“Me too,” MC smiled shyly. “You’re rather sentimental when you’re tired, aren’t you?”
“More like whenever I’m around you. I just can’t help it.”
“What time is it?” MC asked as she shuffled around in the bed, resting her head on his chest.
Jake turned his head to look at the alarm clock sitting on the nightstand, “Almost 4:15.”
“What do you say we sleep a little longer, then make some coffee, and watch the sunrise?”
“Sounds like a wonderful idea.” Jake’s hand found its way into her hair, gently brushing at the strands. “I love you, MC.”
“Me too,” MC giggled as she closed her eyes again. “But about you.”
Jake smirked as he closed his eyes, listening to the calming rise and fall of her breath, noting when it slowed and steadied, signaling she had fallen back asleep. His hand continued to brush through her hair, a peaceful feeling taking over his senses as he placed a soft kiss on the top of her head. He was happy, truly happy, and MC was the one to thank. The sun had finally shown up in his life, the dark clouds overhead leaving in its wake. His life was perfect, because in his eyes so was MC. With that final thought in his head, he finally drifted off to sleep, reveling in the love he now had in his life.
Hey lovelies! ;) Thank you so much for reading and supporting me on this little oneshot journey. Don't worry, many more Jake x MC stories are to come, but I think this is the end of the "Remember Us Together" series. I hope you all like the ending, please leave your likes and reviews in the comments! It always means so much to me to hear from you, it means it's actually worth my time to post. Love you all!
