PARING: Howard Han x Reader
WARNINGS: Talk about jumping! (I think?)
SUMMARY: Athena wanted to live a life where she helped people, so she became a firefighter. But her captain is horrible; how will she react when someone new comes in but is very nice?
(This is before Bobby becomes the captain of the 118)
Athena's day started with Toothless licking her face until she was fully awake. That was what she loved waking up to, but she is currently sitting down on a bench in the 118-station locker room. Looking up at Toothless, she sees he's hissing at one of the firefighters that were trying to pet him. Word of advice: Toothless does not like being touched. Unless it's Athena.
She then sees her captain come out of his office, and he looks pissed. "Hey, Johnson! Get over here!" Athena rolled her eyes, but got up and walked to her captain. "Yes, sir?" Her captain scoffs at her and points at Toothless. "That beast of yours, control it." Athena chuckled and peered at Toothless. "That "Beast" of mine doesn't like being touched. Maybe warn your boys not to touch my "Beast"."
Athena turns fully to Toothless, who is already looking in her direction. "Come on, Toothless, let's go find something to do." Both she and Toothless walk out of the station; she gets on his saddle, and he flies off into the lovely skies of Los Angeles. "This is dispatch, for the 118 air team." Athena hears from her radio, which is attached to the side of her chest. "This is 118 air team dispatch; what do you need?"
"We need you downtown; PD has requested your backup for a possible jumper." Athena comes back. "On it, send the location to my phone." Athena grabs her phone from her back pocket and opens it to see the location. "Alright, buddy, are you ready?" Toothless looks back at her, then back in front of him, hitting Athena with his ear on the way. "Ow, you could have just said yes." Athena told Toothless while rubbing her cheek.
-
Landing, Athena gets off Toothless and walks up to Sargent Grant. (Ha, funny. Two Athena's) "Hey, you requested me to help with a possible jumper?" Sargent Grant looks at Athena. "Oh, we know he is a jumper. He's tried jumping within the past two minutes." Sergeant Grant informed the girl. "Okay, I'll go talk to him." Athena walks up to the ledge that the boy is on. "Hey, I'm Athena. This is Toothless; what's your name?"
The boy looks at Athena, then Toothless. "I'm Alex." Athena smiled at the young boy. "Hi, Alex. Would you like a little fly with Toothless?" The boy looked at Athena and asked. "Are you allowed to do that?" "Yeah, as long as Toothless will allow it." Athena looks at Toothless, who nods his head a little bit.  Grabbing his hand, Athena started strapping in the harness for him so he wouldn't fall.
When the harness is tight enough around his body, Athena climbs behind him and tells Toothless to be gentle. Toothless pushed off of the ground very gently, so that way he didn't scare Alex. Circling around, Athena and Alex talked about his life and what was going on. When he finally said he was ready to land, Athena lightly pulled Toothless's strap for him to land.
Everyone cheered when Athena and Alex landed. While helping Alex get the harness, she gave him some advice. "Hey, remember. You might not have anyone right now, but you will at some point." Alex smiled and waved to Athena and Toothless, and Athena took off into the sky, going back to the 118 station. When she gets inside the station, she starts petting Toothless.
"You need a bath, stinky." Toothless growls at her, while Athena laughs. "I'm being honest! You need a bath." Toothless, being stubborn, gets on his back legs and starts licking her face, wanting to distract her. "Ew! Toothless, get off! I'm still giving you a bath." They then hear footsteps, and Athena and Toothless look up in the direction of the footsteps. "Woah, aren't you guys Athena and Toothless?"
Athena chuckles a bit and nods her head. "Yeah, I'm Athena, and you already know Toothless." Toothless walks up to the man and stiffens him, shaking with excitement. Then plops a squat next to the man. Athena was astonished. Toothless usually hates people. "Wow, that's new." Then the man looked up at Athena. "What do you mean?" "Well, usually Toothless hates all the men here." The man hummed. "Oh, also, I'm Howard. Howard Han." Athena smiled and shook his hand. "Athena, But you already know that."
Athena and Howard knew that their friendship would be unbreakable.

prove it [ howard han ]
⋯ SUMMARY ; after a mishap involving a airplane proposal, confessions are made after trying to prove that you definitely aren’t in love with your best friend
⋯ PROMPT ; [ best friends to lovers ; ten ] “i’ll kiss you right now to prove i don’t feel anything for you” but the kiss does the exact opposite
⋯ WARNINGS ; female!reader + general fluff [ best friends to lovers, kisses + mutual confession of feelings ]
Tumblr media
when you had first met howard, he had just transferred into one of your classes following him and his mother moving to los angelos permanently. and while most of the kids tended to steer clear of him, you found yourself always offering to be his partner for school projects or asked to sit with him at lunch. the two of you had quickly formed a tight friendship, almost to the point the two of you were inseparable.
your family always warmly welcomed howard into their house, and always tried to include him during family events even after his mother had passed after her battle with cancer. an event that only seemed to bring the two of you closer.
your friendship progressed far into adulthood, with you going off on your own path and howard going off on his own -- working well as a bartender until that fateful night where he managed to put out a fire and escort guests out of the bar in record time, leading him down his current career path.
you are his confidant during his time at the academy and during his first few months of probation -- something he never got to share with the lee’s. you always managed to uplift his spirits and had celebrated all his victories and recoveries made during his calls.
so, as you sat on his couch, sharing a beer as he recalled the coolest things he got to do during his most recent shift, “i mean, he faked the plane malfunctioning to propose to his girlfriend!” he stated, chuckling as he shook his hand in amazement.
you shrug, taking a sip of your beer, “you know what they say, you gotta do something they’re never gonna forget!” you point out, knowing that with her saying yes to her boyfriends proposal, it had definitely been something she wanted and most definitely wasn’t going to forget anytime soon.
“i just don’t think he planned for her to have a heart attack, i mean, he probably had no way of knowing, but still -- to take that chance.” he shakes his head at the idea, “you would not see me doing that.”
“i think he had the right intentions. though, i guess i’m just looking at the fact that he did put a lot of effort into planning that. that has to be some proof of love.” howard snorts from your side, and you raise a brow in his direction at the obvious disagreement, “do you think it wasn’t a proof of love?”
“no, i think it was... just a shitty proof of love. i mean, scaring someone and then proposing to them? that doesn’t seem like it’s very romantic.”
“well, while it maybe doesn’t seem romantic to you, doesn’t mean that maybe they didn’t see it that way. you don’t know them personally, do you? so, how would you know it wasn’t romantic for them?” you state, tightly clenching your beer bottle as you drop it to the coffee table, unsure as to why you were getting upset over howard’s reaction to the proposal.
“then why are you so hung on this? are you in love with me or something?” howard chokes out as a joke to lighten the tense mood, chest tightening as he tells himself there is absolutely no way that you would return the feelings he’s held for you over the years the two of you had been friends. but the look over anger on your face says all.
“i’ll kiss you right now to prove i don’t feel anything for you” you sputter out in challenge, not realizing the full extent of your words until howard’s face hardens, “then prove it.”
and you do. quickly leaning forward to press your lips against howard’s -- lips lingering far too long than would have normally been acceptable, bu you were trying to prove at point.
and just as you lean back, eyes search over howard’s features to see his reaction, hands quickly cup your jaw drawing you back in for another kiss without warning. there’s a muffled noise of surprise that leaves your lips, but you quickly settle, with your eyes closing as his thumb brushes over the skin of your cheek, not pulling away until there’s a need for air, and you are both scrambling back to your respective spots on the couch.
an awkward silence that follows, neither of you wanting to be the first to speak or make eye contact in fear of spilling your guts out over your bottled up feelings for the past ten years. then, as you turn to apologize, howard quickly cuts you off with a confession, “i’m in love with you.” he practically blurts out, eyes widening as he almost doesn’t believe that those words just came out of his mouth.
more so, when you manage to snap out of your stupper and confess yourself, “i’m in love with you, too.” another silence following as you make him aware that the feelings are mutual, and that this definitely wouldn’t cause your relationship to turn awkward.
howard then clears his throat, “so, uh, do you maybe want to go out sometime... with me? like on date...” he questions you softly, giving you plenty of time to opt out if this isn’t the direction you want to take your relationship, but after finally having some form of reassurance that your feelings were shared, you weren’t going to pass up an opportunity to be with you best friend in a romantic sense, “i would love to.”
howard smiles, picking up his beer before throwing an arm around your shoulder -- pulling you into his side and turning to press a kiss to your forehead the second you settle into his side. the two of you more than happy with the development and the new stage you are taking together.

Drunken night - Eddie Diaz x Reader Smut
Tumblr media
Summary: After a drunken night it leads to multiple one night stands with Edmundo Diaz, after he goes on a date you both realize what really matters
warnings: PURE FILTH THIS IS DIRRRRRRTY SMUT
The first time you and Eddie Diaz ended up in bed together was truly a drunken mistake, you were Evan's twin and at first if Eddie was sober, he would've never even looked in your direction, but after that one night, you became like his drug, he'd purposely come over to your and your brothers apartment to 'help' with things, which would always in end with you two having sex somewhere in your apartment.
Tonight you were sure your guys' fun was ending, Eddie was on a date his Tia had set up for him, and you were lucky enough to be a babysitter for Chris. Unknown to you, Eddie wasn't planning on dating anybody except for y/n Buckley, and his plan to have you as a sitter? an excuse to have you over. As you laid on the couch staring at the ceiling, Chris being asleep for at least the last two hours, since Eddie left. As you felt yourself start to zone out, you jumped up, ready to swing the bat that was tucked under your crush's couch for safety. "You're gonna beat a man who's coming home?" Eddie gasped playfully, walking closer to the couch, frowning as you rolled your eyes plopping back down resuming your staring contest with the ceiling tiles.
"Hey, Amor..." He whispered teasingly leaning closer to you over the back of the couch "What's troubling you?" Eddie finally asked sitting down next to your legs. "How'd your date go?" You asked, not meaning to sound so cold towards him, but you cringed at the thought of another woman grabbing Eddie like you did. Eddie laughed softly resting a hand on your thigh slowly moving to hover over you, so you weren't able to avoid eye contact. Moving his arm to hold himself up from the arm rest, and using his other hand to hold your jaw straight to look at him. "You wanna know how it went, amor?" He whispered raising his eyebrows "We went to dinner, and the entire time I sat in that chair, I thought about how badly I wanted to get home to you" He whispered kissing down your neck making your entire body shudder in excitement "These last couple of weeks, mi amor" He continued, not stopping his trail of kisses towards the neckline of your shirt, which was actually his. "All I could think about was you. Wanting you here, I can see you everytime I got home, not sneaking around" He whispered before kissing you deeply, you could feel a knot forming in your stomach as he bit your bottom lip, sliding his tongue into your mouth as he let his free hand roam your body, taking in every inch.
Eddie took you by surprise as he easily lifted you up, wrapping your legs around his waist as he carried you towards his bedroom, his lips never leaving yours "I love you" He whispered against your lips before dropping you onto his mattress, your legs still linked around his waist "I love you too" You whispered back, grabbing the sides of his jacket pulling him closer, taking your turn to kiss his jawline slowly "I've missed my Edmundo" You whispered tracing your hands up and down his chest as you left hickeys down his neck, smirking as you felt his manly demeanor falter, his knees buckling under him "Fuck, mi amor" He grunted grabbing the back of your neck, hovering over you again as he kissed you deeply, grinding against you. You bit down on his bottom lip trying to muffle your moan the best you could "E-Eddi-" You were cut off by him pulling away making intense eye contact with you, you felt nervous under his gaze, he looked almost dangerous.
"I've got you, mi princesa" He whispered softly, before pulling his shirt off of you, kissing down your chest, growling against your skin as you tightened your legs around him, grinding against the obvious bulge in his jeans. Grunting, Eddie undid his belt, tossing it to the side as he shoved his jeans down, stroking himself a few times, as he watched you squirm impatiently "te tengo princesa" He whispered as he pulled off your night pants, followed by your underwear. Eddie bit his lip hard, he couldn't help it, the way you looked so desperate laying on his bed, under him because you were his woman, and somehow you managed to make desperate look knee buckling hot.
You growled, growing impatient with him, you pulled him closer, squealing quietly as he pushed into you, you could feel yourself screeching around his size. "Lord help me" He panted as he leaned on his elbows, giving you the perfect opportunity to kiss his chest softly, leaving deep hickeys where you could. Eddie panted leaning his head down to look at you before starting to thrust his hips, you gasped digging your nails into his back, that just fueled him more, almost fucking you so hard the bedpost would occasionally hit the wall. "Fucking hell, Eddie, what's gotten into you?" You panted between moans, you guys had fucked, but he was never like this "You. All I fucking think about is you, anywhere I look. You've fucking ruined me" He panted as his thrusts never faulted, you were so worked up, you could barely hear him, moaning into his hand as he kept it there to keep you quiet. "I can't think of anything without remembering how you sounded cumming for me for the first time" He whispered in your ear, you whined loudly trying to pull him closer to you, wanting to feel him deeper, faster, harder.
"What, mi amor? Is this not enough?" He asked teasingly, resting his hands on your hips, turning you onto your hands and knees before fucking you again, this time at alot faster pace. "H-Harder, please Eddie" You begged tugging his hair, this triggered something in Eddie, his thrusts became a lot rougher, but never slowing in speed. You felt like you were going to explode, only being able to repeat Eddie's name like it was a prayer. You could feel Eddie's hip stutter for a moment, his knuckles tightening as his hold on the sheets and your wrists as you felt him cum, feeling the warmth flow inside of you. You moaned his name loudly as his thrusts returned back to his original speed, your legs quickly closed around his waist, you entire body shaking as an orgasm ripped through you. Eddie grunted, releasing your wrists as he kissed you deeply "That's it, baby, you can do it" He whispered against your lips, you whined loudly, overstimulated your legs tried to close to give yourself a break, but Eddie wasn't stopping, you two had an agreement, tap out (Saying stop, no more, etc) or knock out (Fuck till you can't take it anymore).
He lifted you back into his arms, letting you lean against his bedroom wall as he continued sliding in and out of you, watching as you threw your head back against the wall "Fuck, you look so fucking hot taking all of me like that, baby" He panted holding your throat gently, just tight enough to apply pressure "E-Eddie! I-I can't-" You stuttered pushing your hand between the both of you, your legs were shaking so bad from overstimulation, you didn't think you'd ever walk again, the knot in your stomach was almost painful, but Eddie's dick continued to brush against your cervix walls, you could feel his cum start to smear against your inner thighs. "Yes you can, you're my girl, you can take it, you know your words" Eddie grunted, bottoming out inside of you before rolling his hips, you dug your nails into his back again, your body shaking and spasming as your 3rd orgasm ripped through you almost painfully, but honestly? the pain just made you twice as wet.
You bit your lip, tears brimming your eyes from overstimulation as Eddie slowed his thrusts, but didn't quite stop "Fuck I'm almost there Mi amor, please baby" He begged, you could tell by his face he wanted to cum bad, so you slowly pulled him out of you, much to his disliking "Please, please baby, just need to cum, please baby" He begged, basically on his knees, taking to opportunity to lick a bold strip right across your clit, you almost fell to the floor as you moaned loudly "get up" you demanded, Eddie slowly stood to his feet as you slowly sat on your knees "you dont- Oh!" Eddie moaned out in shock as you immediately took his cock down your throat, his hand found it's way to the back of your head, guiding your head up and down as you swallowed around him. It wasn't long before you felt the warm substance starting to run down your throat. Looking up Eddie was laid flat on the bed, you could see his chest rising and falling rapidly as he attempted to catch his breath, as you slowly and shakily stood up, Eddie's hand was quick to gently tug you down onto the bed with him, pulling you close to his bare chest.
"You really love me?.." You asked after a moment, breaking the comforting sounds of Eddie's humming, his hand still running through your hair, trying to get any tangles out "I do, mi amor, more than anything in this world, other than my son, nobody can top him" Eddie whispered before chuckling "I really love you then too..and agreed, I love Christopher more too, he's a great kid" You smiled, resting your hand over the tattoo the wrapped around his forearm. "I'm really glad we got drunk that night.." He whispered pressing a gentle kiss to the top of your head, you leaned closer into his touch as he continued humming quietly, Eddie adored you, no matter how messy your hair, or rough you look, he could never find a flaw, you were perfect in his eyes in every possible way.
Now only thing left is to find a way to tell your brother and Eddie's best friend.

Tumblr media
A/N: my man, my man, my man!! Hopefully we get to see you soon and I can actually get the nerve to finish season six—I only have maybe 4 episodes left? Then I’ll dive into 9-1-1 lone star while we wait. Regardless I thought this would be funny and a little creepy to write so here we are! Enjoy 😉
Synopsis: Buck loves the new house you live in together and although you’re not crazy about it…you decide to pull a prank on your boyfriend to liven up the place that perhaps leads to you opening doors for a uninvited guest?
PROMPTS ARE FROM HERE & HERE & I’m using: A buys a crappy sound machine and plants it in the house. While it plays ghost noises and spooky sounds, A hopes they can convince B that the place is haunted. + “Come on, if there was ever a time for me to be superstitious it’s definitely now.”

“BABE!” Buck yelled into your ear after pulling the headphone away.
You flinch as you stand up straight from the kitchen island and away from your overnight oats, “Yes?” You press with raised brows.
Buck waves his hands around, “you don’t hear that?”
“Hear what?” You question, pausing the podcast and resting your headphones to lay around your neck, “I didn’t even know you were home.”
Buck immediately frowns, “don’t tell me that. That means anybody could be hiding in here and you wouldn’t even know because of those stupid things.”
“You bought them for me.”
“Yeah to use at the gym and keep those meathead douchebags away while I’m not around.” Buck explained which made you smirk with a roll of your eyes.
“Listen,” Buck said again as you moved around the modern kitchen (that you hated) to place the now empty bowl and spoon into the sink.
Placing a hand on your hip you glance around the new open floor plan home that you and Buck moved into together. The modern contemporary home was such a contrast from the outside to the inside with its exterior being too boxy for your liking but you enjoyed the black exterior and the courtyard and pool. The inside was much lighter, from white to cream walls, along with the high ceilings which made the home feel bigger and instantly sold Buck who believed this would be your forever home.
You on the other hand were not convinced but nobody could ever say you weren’t open to trying new experiences. It’s only been four months settling in and there were still some things you wanted to change like: mainly the wall colors but Buck was convinced furniture and decor could replace that urge.
Sighing you say, “I don’t hear anything Ev,” you tap the sink on, “maybe you should lay down? Was it a rough day?”
“No, it was a breeze.” Buck fanned his hand along before resting them both flat against the White Island counter, “…maybe it’s a bird or something?”
“Well what exactly did it sound like?”
“Like scratching. Kinda like Pearla when she tries to sneak into our room at night,” Buck answers before glancing around, “matter of fact, where is she?”
“At the groomers. She won’t be ready until after four,” you inform Buck of the whereabouts of your old English sheepdog.
Buck dips his head, looking at his watch, “it’s 3:42.”
“Shoot! time does really get away from me,” you widen your eyes as you quickly finish washing the dishes before spinning around to shove it into the dishwasher.
Buck nods his head, “I’ll drive.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah,” Buck shrugs his shoulders, “it’s a nice crisp day and…I don’t want you having any accidents considering your hearing isn’t the best right now.” He playfully lifts the headphones from your neck to place down while you roll your eyes again.
You lean towards him smug, “ah, I see what this is…you’re scared to stay here by yourself because of this imaginary noise you’re hearing.”
“I’m not! And i don’t think it’s in my head.” Buck defended while you went over to the couch to shove your hoodie back over your gym attire.
“Uh huh,” you say as Buck scoffs ready to plead his case as you lock up the home behind you.
The next time Buck hears the noise is around 3am when you’re both tucked away at the back of the home in bed. It’s not a pleasant sound as his eyes snap open to the darkness of the room, the moaning and creaking almost sounds like a mixture of a whale and the cracking of a ship that meets the bottom of the ocean. Buck knows he should stop clicking on random things on YouTube before bed that leads him down a deep dive but this isn’t the first time he’s hearing that groaning sound.
It was brief before on his day off while you were at work and he was lounging on the couch watching some twisted documentary about Russ McKamey. Buck tried to brush it off as something that was on screen since it stopped when he paused the television but he couldn’t hear it while watching again. Was this truly in his head? He started to think but here he was— technically—the third time hearing the noise for much longer.
When he peaks over at you with your back to him, he lightly grips your shoulder and leans over to see that you’re still fast asleep and sits up in bed. By the edge of the bed, he spots Pearla on the floor with her fluffy ears perked up and Buck nods his head.
“You hear it too, girl? I know I’m not going crazy!” Buck whisper-yells to the dog who’s definitely more alert than you are.
Buck’s crawling out of bed with Pearla at his ankles, taking a deep inhale he opens the bedroom door to peak down the left of the hallway towards the front of the new home and only sees darkness. Pausing for a moment he listens for the noise again but the home is eerily quiet.
Buck stands there for at least two minutes before he considers closing the door but the creaking starts up again, sending Pearla flying out of the room barking as she tries to locate the noise first.
“Pearla!” Buck yells for the dog who disappears down the hallway and out of sight.
He blows a whistle with his fingers to get her attention, stepping into the hallway now but Pearla is nowhere to be seen. When he glances over his shoulder back in your direction, you’re still in fact sound asleep. Usually you’re the light sleeper out of the pair but somehow in this early morning, you’re having a grand time in dreamland.
Reaching for the doorknob, Buck slowly pulls the door closed with a soft click and begins taking the path to the main areas of the home. Pass the three bedrooms and the half bath on the left, Buck scans the dining room, kitchen, and living room to find it all empty. Confusion is written all over Buck’s face as he stands in the center of the home, hands on his hips as he’s searching but…for what?
The groaning picks up again just as a touch goes to his hips. Buck yelps, whipping around to face you who’s actually holding their composure. Buck holds onto his chest ready to let out a exhale but the look you cast behind your shoulder then back to meet Buck’s island water eyes you say, “the house is haunted.”
“What?” Buck let’s out a full exhale, trying to calm his heart rate.
You swallow, hands still holding onto Buck’s hips, “I hear it too.”
He tightens his jaw, ears picking up on the noise but now it’s the loudest it’s ever been, making you grip your very sensitive ears.
“Wait here,” Buck suggests, hands flexing as he picks up a fire poker that was left leaning against the industrial bookcase from his old apartment, “it sounds like it’s coming from the laundry room.”
You huff, feet slapping against the floor as you latch right onto the back of his shirt, “hell no! You’re not leaving me behind in this sketchy house.”
“Ohhh,” Buck sing songs, “now it’s sketchy but when I said it’s been weird lately you tell me I need a nap.”
You hiss, “be quiet, we’re supposed to be stealthy when sneaking up on a ghost.”
“I wasn’t aware that you had experience with the paranormal.” Buck looks back at you with a frown before slowly leading the way back towards the bedrooms.
“I’ve seen ghost whisperer you know?”
“…am i supposed to know what that is?”
“It’s a show Maddie and I are currently binge watching, now ssh!” Your attempt to silence the man was met but Buck used this silence to steady his heartbeat.
If this house was truly haunted then it was going to be hard to explain this to the insurance company when he’s done tearing up the place.
And we all know Buck’s not afraid of some action. His arm goes out to shield you as you both slide up against the wall opposite of the door that leads into the small laundry room. Buck couldn’t hear Pearla’s barking anymore and she did go in the opposite direction so he hoped whatever this is, didn’t harm your beloved dog.
“On my count,” Buck signals peering at you shortly to make sure you understood where he was going with this, “three…two…”
Of course he didn’t say “one” as he pushed the door back, revealing the very normal looking laundry room. Everything appeared in tack as Buck stepped into the room, hand reaching out to shove some clothes on the rack aside and then checking the cabinets above the washer and dryer.
“Huh,” Buck hummed before pulling the appliances open to find them both empty, “nothing.”
When he turns to face you, you’re hugging yourself but your brows are still furrowed in disbelief. He reaches to flick the light off and steps towards you to exit the room but a screeching noise picks up yet again. Instead of it sounding like it’s in the laundry room, it’s appears as if it’s coming from back towards the front of the home.
“No freaking way!” Buck yells, bringing the fire poker up like a bat as he runs down the hallway.
You scream at his back, “stop running towards danger you idiot!”
Buck ignores you, following the sound right to the pantry door, which is closed shut. He wastes no time, pulling the door back to reveal a gray and white Pearla fleeing from the room with a whine. Buck almost recoils at how loud the sound is coming from the pantry but steps in anyway, looking around the spacious storage room until the door shuts right behind him.
He tries the knob but to no avail, he turns back to the dark room, dropping down into a push up motion to check underneath the shelves. The thirty year old was just waiting to see something further unusual but got back to his feet just to be shoved towards the shelves.
Buck steadies his hands out in front of himself, catching himself against the shelves but not without the goods crashing onto the floor. He spins back around as the cracking noise picks up, almost making his teeth ache at the sound but that doesn’t stop him from swinging the fire poker wildly in the air. He’s not sure when the poker breaks one of the shelves but he spots a flash of red way at the top behind a acrylic container.
Panting Buck begins latching and crawling up on the shelves and swipes a hand across the top shelf, knocking the contents onto the floor to spot some sort of machine that suddenly shoots a weak steam of fog his way, followed by the creaking sound. Buck presses on top of it which sends out that screeching sound that makes Buck slip at the upsetting noise.
He’s shouting your name once he aims his footing right, landing back on it but not without the machine slipping right towards his face and knocking Buck off balance.
“I’m just glad it’s not broken,” you say for what felt like the thirteenth time as you hold the door open; ten am later that morning, leading your boyfriend back into your shared home that Buck secretly didn’t want to come back to.
The bandage on his bruised and cut up nose was prominent but Buck still sported a small smile on his face. “See what happens when you try to prank me. Now you have to tell everyone that I did in fact fight a ghost.”
The pantry door was jammed by the time you got to Buck, hearing him calling your name and Pearla barking for your attention. It wasn’t something it commonly did but you just deemed it as your anxiety getting the best of you, struggling to get it open. You were in on a bet with Chimney and Hen since Eddie (surprisingly) and Bobby didn’t want to participate—that you could convince Buck that your new home was haunted.
However you weren’t expecting for him to go investigating and get smacked in the face with the crap ghost machine you purchased off eBay. You were just happy that you weren’t the cause of Buck almost breaking his nose (you didn’t intend for the machine to slide off the shelf) but everything else you’ll take responsibility for.
“Sit,” you ordered Buck by his arms who laughed at you going into your nurturing role, “you know they’ll never believe that right?”
Buck kicks his feet up along the couch with a sigh, “but it could be a plot twist x2 with there actually being some haunted vibes going on. I mean…you did set me up.”
You pout as stood in the kitchen, “it was supposed to be all in good fun but then you had to go Rambo—being Buck. Did I mention how sorry I am?”
Buck laughs, “it’s just a scratch,” as Pearla jumps up beside him to rest her head in his lap, “it’ll heal and I can take a joke but just know…you did start a prank war for the rest of this fall season. You have no idea what you just unleashed.”
You didn’t like how Buck was rubbing his hands together in wicked joy but you’ll learn to deal with it.
“Yeah that’s what Maddie said,” you mumbled as you pulled open the fridge, “so before you come up with those ideas…I can make you your favorite breakfast.”
Buck grins, “that’ll be nice but I’d prefer a cuddle first.”
“Is your head hurting?”
Buck lolls his head, “I told you babe, I feel fine. Now get over here.”
You make a cross motion as you cautiously step over to Buck who shakes his head at you with a grin. Once you’re close enough, he reaches for your sweatshirt to yank you to his other side since Pearla made her claim on his left.
“Now that I know I’m not going crazy anymore, I can really enjoy this house with my two favorite people.” Buck curls a arm around you and rests the other along the back of the couch after patting Pearla’s head.
Resting your head against Buck’s chest you sink into the comfort each other. However that doesn’t last long with the sound of glass shattering from the mirror that once hung on the wall above the wooden chest that contained the record player on top of it.
The silence is almost deafening now as the both of you watch the pieces of the mirror decorate the floor.
Buck says, “Come on, if there was ever a time to be superstitious it’s definitely now.”
You knew a broken mirror was not a good sign and Buck started to feel like it wasn’t really all in his head as the flashes of what happened earlier this morning played back in his head. It couldn’t just be the trash machine you bought whenever and Buck really wasn’t that clumsy to trip over his feet so what gives?
Spookiness can be fun but Buck could always sense when things didn’t exactly feel right anymore? He believed in the full moon, mercury in retrograde and he strongly believed in when things weren’t just a good scare.
“So you agree, we should go house hunting?”
Again? Buck hated the process when he was on his own but with you it felt nice, like there was a definite future to look forward to.
“Yeah,” Buck states, “I think I’m done ghost hunting for awhile.”
“Hell yeah you are.” You respond, keeping your eyes towards the area just in case you saw something else that didn’t sit right with you; while reaching for your phone.
The both of you didn’t bother to debate over where you would be escaping to for the night as you searched your contacts for your realtor and fast.

I had an idea for you... if it sparks inspiration...
I was thinking something with Jonah the crazy dude from season 5... maybe the reader has a really minor heart condition that doesn’t really cause any issues day to day but she gets attacked by Jonah instead of Chim and he almost can’t restart her heart. Buck and Eddie know something is wrong (maybe she was suppose to hang out with them but doesn’t show) so they have Athena track her phone and they all go save her and catch Jonah. She ends up in the hospital for a while because it causes some complications for her preexisting condition.

summary: request
evan buckley x reader
a/n: sorry if there is inaccurate information, but i’ll try my best :)
y/n could tell by the tightness and eerie sense in the air that something would go wrong. usually, you know when you’re doing the right thing, but something felt completely different. the darkness of the night filled her apartment as she stepped into the quiet room.
once the door was shut softly behind her, she turned around to put her jacket on the hook. it all happened so fast, the impact on her head and the quick face in front of her. the villainous eyes of her coworker and blonde swoops of his shirt hair. she didn’t even have time to process the attack. it was going to be a battle against him to get out of this situation, alone.
jonah is smart, too smart, almost. he knows exactly what buttons to press to cause a complete catastrophe. y/n is smarter, though. from the beginning she knew jonah had something off about him. hen and chim believed her, but she didn’t say anything to the others. buck hates when she puts herself in danger, despite her job being almost the exact definition. y/n did the research on jonah with the partners, finding more suspicious information on the man.
y/n had no idea about all the drugs that were being pumped through her. her unconscious body on the table almost made a smile creep up on jonah’s face. the sweet sight of revenge, but somehow still claims he’s a hero. her body was jumping back and forth from death, almost touching the line before she was pulled back. jonah tortured her with ease, confident in his abilities to bring her back. what jonah didn’t know, is that he’s nowhere near being able to save her.
everyday from when y/n was born, her parents always told her about how lucky she is. the minor condition in her heart had become nothing severe, placing her life in barely any risk. it could’ve been worse, taking her life or forcing her to deal with day-to-day challenges. instead, she got to pursue her dreams of being a firefighter with no heart condition to hold her back. she was hardly ever reminded of her condition, until jonah started to play with her heart like a toy. jonah thinks so fondly of himself. so fondly, that he was taken aback at the lack of beating from her heart.
he always restarts it. he’s almost always able to, and he figured she got herself into this mess. the continuous flatline shot through his ears, making the so-called “hero” panic. when he thought about it, he couldn’t save claudette. maybe y/n would just have to end up like her, too weak to save herself.
jonah thought he was safe, being able to clean up the mess he made. his intelligence clearly hit a maximum, not remembering that y/n has people waiting for her all the time.
buck and eddie had arranged for them all to hang out that night. y/n was so distracted with jonah and his antics, so she figured it would be nice to get out for a little bit. their shift times had been rearranged, ending y/n’s early and leaving her to deal with the mess. the moment y/n’s phone went straight to voicemail, buck knew something was wrong. she always lights up when he calls, being delighted to hear his voice especially when they haven’t been seeing each other. he brought his concerns to eddie, who maturely tried to ease his worries. eddie knows all too well how much buck is enamored with y/n. he loves her more than anything he’s every known, and he’s not afraid to show it. he doesn’t know what buck would do without her. so, when y/n declines both of their calls, they immediately turn to a worried stance and try to find her.
they pull up to her apartment, seeing her car and none of her things inside. they walk cautiously up to the door, buck praying that she just fell asleep and she would be alright. his heart thumped in his chest, and little did he know his girlfriends wasn’t. his blood ran cold when the door was cracked open, running up to her apartment and running inside. all of her items like her purse, her bags, had all been abandoned in their normal spots.
“buck?” eddie catches up. “is she…” he pauses, looking around to see no signs of one of his best friends. “here.”
buck still just looks around in a frantic search for y/n. “eddie, shes not here,” he knows he’s pointing out the obvious, but he knows shes in severe danger when the door was opened and all her stuff was around. his breathing starts to pick up, gathering y/n’s purse before stepping back under the doorframe.
“hey, man,” eddie tries to calm buck down despite his own anxieties. the whole apartment is filled with uncanny feeling, every movement just making the guys feel more freakish. “do you think she just went down to the front or something?”
“she wouldn’t leave her things here and that door is wide open,” buck says. “eddie, what if someone broke in and found her- i dont wan- i dont want to jump to anything but jonah’s been on top of her case lately and i can’t even thin-“
“buck, listen,” eddie tells him, placing his hands on his shoulders. “relax, we’re going to find her.”
“i know who we need,” the idea chimes in bucks head. “we need athena, eddie. she knows exactly how to find her.”
buck sped over like he was in his own cop car, athena luckily still being on duty when he pulled over. he rushed in, eddie trailing behind him scoping out the sergeant. when he finally landed his eyes on her, buck was jogging over to her and she could see the pure fright he had in his eyes. “buck? what is going on here?”
“y/n’s gone,” buck spits out, putting a shocked look on athena’s face. “she didn’t answer any calls, and her door was wide open when we got to her apartment. nothing else was missing though.”
“you didn’t try to contact her through anything else?”
“no, and her car was there too,” eddie adds, making athena sigh and look over to her fellows.
“im going to send people to her apartment, make sure she’s truly missing, and maybe they can find more there,” athena starts, automatically knowing how to deal with the situation. “you need to tell me anything you can, even if you think its small, it’s not.”
buck started by giving her phone number and any way that she could access any of the data in y/n’s phone. they took it over to the people trained to track them, and they found several different spots. “it looks like she stopped here,” the man working at the computer starts. “and then i just see that she went home. that was at 9:37, though. it still has to update.”
buck waited painfully for the software to download anything else, he knows she’s not at home safe, where she should be. when the screen blinked and flashed again, the little dot of her location had changed again. “this says, 9:52, she was at 152 canal at that time. sound familiar?”
“can you check someone elses address?” eddie asks, seeing bucks disoriented state of mind.
“we should, as long as they have it in the files.”
“jonah greenway, where does he live?”
athena steps away, accepting something through her radio. unfortunately, every word is staticky but heard by buck and eddie. “sergeant grant, we’ve found something swept under the kitchen island, it looked like the over of a syringe or something alone those lines.”
the red and blue lights shined over y/n’s body, causing jonah to freeze. he considered every option, running or just giving himself up. the thick knocks on the door yanked him from his thoughts. he was scared, but the major part of him thought he did the right thing. he wanted revenge, and that’s exactly what he got.
the mob of officers made their way into the home, pulling their weapons up to face jonah, who willingly put his hands in the air, dropping the paddles to the machine. they walked up briskly to him, grabbing his hands to put them behind him. the paramedics moved to y/n, prioritizing her illness and the danger she was in.
buck was physically held back by other officers, just wanting to run in and save y/n. he knew the night would be bad, but he never imagined that he’d lose her. when jonah walked out of the house, being held by two burly officers, the next events of the night unfolded. bobby stood over jonah, swinging a clean punch across his face. that became a blur, though, when the small wheels of the stretcher came into view.
her eyes were shut, her body was unnaturally relaxed. hen, chimney, and eddie all watched it unfold, looking at buck and his glossy eyes. bobby stood hand in hand with athena, who looked at the man completely in love with y/n crumple to pieces. buck didn’t bother to look back, he didn’t hesitate to climb into the ambulance.
he looked at her body, feeling nothing but guilt and horror. he couldn’t manage to say anything, even if she could hear him. she was already broken, and he felt like he would just make it worse. bucks been to hell and back, having to deal with extreme stress his whole life. nothing compares to watching y/n in this position, and he wishes he could trade places.
the grueling hours sitting next to her were almost unbearable. the agony of watching her body fight against her mind was something buck could barely take. his sister had arrived, hands on his shoulders and hugging him whilst he cries silently. the doctors and nurses came in and out, switching medications and checking her vitals.
it seemed like no one had an answer. an answer as to why this happened, or how it’ll be fixed. the only thing they could do is observe as bucks favorite person, and the teams closest friend, was in a questionable state. she was safe from jonah, but not from the recovery and wrath of what he’d done.
the doctors came in, trying to speak to buck but maddie was taking the information instead, buck being unable to handle it.
“we’ve tested the drugs in her system, and they match up with what we thought it was,” the doctor adds. “i have no problem believing that she’ll be alive, but we found some more complications the more we looked into it.”
buck looked up at that word, wondering what else could’ve happened. “complication? what complications?”
“she was born with a pre-existing heart condition. when mr. greenway pushed the drugs, and continued to bring her in and out of arrest, it caused the condition to be brought up as an issue.”
“but she’ll be ok, right?” maddie interrupts.
“she’ll be alright,” the doctor tells the siblings who looked back at y/n’s still body, her hand in bucks. “we’re going to have to keep a very close eye on her. she might be living with more day-to-day problems than before.”
bucks sighs, not wanting to hear anymore. he thinks about when she wakes up, how angry and upset she’ll be. nothing was her fault, but he knows how her mind works. if she never dug into jonah, none of this would’ve happened. her career and her life was at risk, and she doesn’t know how to live without working. so, he just waits. he contains himself, preparing to be a comfort for her as he tries to be patient for her to wake up.
when her tired eyes were finally opened, she smiled at the sight of him. buck exhaled in relief, finally being able to breathe when he saw her able to exist again. “i guess he really did it this time,” she mumbles out, putting a frown on bucks face.
“he’s gone, now,” he tries to make matters better, but it doesn’t really help. “but you’re awake, that’s the best thing that could happen right now.”
“what’s wrong?”
“what?” buck looks at her, confusion written on his face. “you- you almost died, y/n. you did, a few times pretty much! he tried to kill you.”
“but i’m okay now.”
“y/n,” he starts, looking sadly at her. “the amount of shit he put into you…” he pauses, trying to figure out how to tell her. “your condition, it’s more severe now.”
“what do you mean more severe?” her face has fallen again, the scared disposition returning.
“the doctor said it’ll start to appear more in your life as an issue. you’ll have more symptoms.” he notices the increasing anxiety in her eyes, feeling terrible that he had to tell this to her. “hey, listen,” he says when he notices her starting to spiral in her own head. “you’re alive. you’re safe now.”
“but what does this mean? what about work? i’ve been fine for all these years, my life can’t just change overnight,” she cries, feeling unexplainable emotion.
“we’ll figure it out, i promise,” he lifts her hand, planting his lips on it while trying to bring her back down. “you and me, no matter what.”
days turned into weeks in the hospital. the doctors were too unsure about her condition to send her home without being supervised. every day, she was sent in for tests and more blood was taken. it became a new, awful pattern of being stuck in the four walls of her hospital room. she tried to entertain herself alone, but she just wanted her man. the man who keeps her safe, the one who makes her happy. now, she was left with visits between shifts and texts and calls.
buck was there every day, eventually having to go back to work after a few weeks. he tried to be there for every treatment, trying to take off work to be there with her. she wanted to be at work with him, doing what she loved and saving people’s lives. buck reminds her every day about the people she saved from jonah. he’s there when she falls asleep, holding her hand and whispering sweet nothings to her as she drifts off.
she couldn’t do any of this without buck and even her team. every time they all came around to see her, the day became brighter and she felt better. she waited for the day she could leave and go back to her regular life, but having the love of her life next to her made it a little more tolerable.

Bobby Nash
Bobby loved his job, but getting home to you was his favorite part of the day. The relief, joy and peace he felt when he got to embrace you in his arms after all the atrocities he faced at work made him feel whole. His guilt and his shame for his own past sins would mildly subside, and he thanked God with every fiber of his soul that he still had you.
The past forty-eight hours at work had been stressful and frustrating with not a lot of success. Everyone was quiet and emotional, especially Bobby who couldn't quite handle the loss of children as well as others. It broke his heart and made him hate himself for being unable to save their innocent lives.
When he got home, you came sprinting out of the living room, the sound of your cheerful, excited voice instantly enlightening his dark mood. "Daddy, daddy," You giggled, racing to him, "I missed you!"
Smiling warmly, Bobby set his bag down and knelt to scoop you into his arms, "Hey, sweetheart, I missed you too. How've you been?"
Soaking up his warmth and loving attention, you nuzzled into the long-missed safety of your father's chest and giggled, "I drew more pictures for you. Wanna see?"
Bobby kissed your cheek and said happily, "I'd love to. Why don't you go ahead and grab them for me, huh?"
"Ok, daddy, be right back," You cheerfully agreed, speeding off when he set you down.
With you temporarily out of sight, Bobby took the chance to drag himself over to his arm chair. Plopping down, he sighed heavily, rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes. The stress, disappointment and guilt these past two days brought still sat upon his shoulders like a tortuous barbell.
On your way back from retrieving your pictures, you saw the way your father was sitting and the expression on his face, and you slowed in your movements. From past experience, you knew that your father did not always have the funnest job, and some times he would come home sad. Your nanny once told you that Bobby could not be everyone's hero all of the time. And that may be true, but...
You could be 'his' hero.
After over five minutes passed, Bobby lifted his head in concern and hollered, "(y/n)? Everything okay? Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, daddy," And then you came running into the living room.
"Hey," Bobby chuckled at your enthusiasm as you ran up to him with a blanket, a plushie, and his favorite pillow. "What're you doing, sweetie? What's this?"
"You're sad," You stated, covering him with the blanket and placing the plushie in his lap, "So I'm gonna make you happy! Nanny is heating you up some soup, and I'm gonna go get you your pictures and your favorite soda- I know soda makes you happy, hehe! Be right back!"
"W-well- hey-" Bobby tried reaching out for you but you were too caught up in your own priorities. Priorities that revolved around him. At first he scolded himself for allowing his emotions to show, but then he clutched the blanket, his pillow and your plushie, and he couldn't help but to feel a sense of happiness, relief and gratitude.
He tried so hard to help everyone else. He tried not to ever ask for help himself. He couldn't always succeed in helping everyone. And sometimes he wanted help for himself... even though he didn't deserve it.
But here you were. You, his little, amazing, considerate, kind angel. His guiding light and soul reason to live. You were here and you cared about him and loved him even though he felt it wasn't what he deserved. It was something that put pressure in his chest and tears in his eyes.
Running back with a can of your father's favorite soda, you smile and hand it to him, "Here you go daddy. I made sure to grab the coldest one I could find and I-daddy?"
Before you could finish talking, Bobby set the can aside, leaned forward, wrapped his arms around you and pulled you sideways onto his lap. You hummed in confusion at first, but you were always happy to have cuddles so you happily accepted and leaned against the safety and warmth of his chest. "I love you, daddy."
"I love you too, baby," Bobby had to keep his voice from breaking as he held you tightly, his teary face slightly hidden against the top of your head, "I love you so much. You could never know how grateful I am to have you in my life."
Every time Bobby lost people on calls, he lost a piece of himself, but you gave those pieces back to him, and he loved you so much and he was so grateful for you, you just had no idea.

Howard Han "Chimney"
He came home while you were still asleep, briefly conversing with your nanny before bidding them a good evening and some appreciation for their patience. Then he sauntered into the kitchen where he made himself a glass of water and cooked some low-effort food.
But he didn't eat the food.
No. Instead of eating, Chimney just sat there at the table, mindlessly staring into the abyss while thinking about their failed calls these past few days. Did a worthless failure like him even deserve to eat? Gosh, just thinking about the sad, stricken look of horror on those poor parents faces, it just...
"Daddy Chimney?"
Sniffing and rubbing a hand down his distressed face, Chimney quickly cleared his throat, turned around in his chair and smiled big in greeting, "Hey, little oven. What're you doing awake?"
You frowned at him while walking closer, your blanket held close as you mumbled, "Why are you crying?"
Chimney made a silly face, pretending to be shocked, "W-who? Me? I'm not crying."
"Yes you are," You frown even more.
The last thing Chimney wanted was to drag you down into the same sad pit as himself; that is why he tried his hardest to tease you and make you happy, "Hey, look, I'm not the one who's crying. You are. Don't think I can't see those fat crocodile tears running down your face. Geez, kinda rude of you to call me out like that, you know... Hypocrite."
You giggled at his teasing and made adorable whines of childish yet endearing irritation, "Daddy...."
Chimney smiled, the aching pressure in his chest subsiding a bit. Gosh, he had missed you. Getting to see your face and hear your adorable voice was like stepping into a comforting light. "Come here, oven," He smiled, lifting out his arms.
Setting down your blanket, you walked over and sat down in your father's lap, humming in content when he leaned down and gave you a playful eskimo kiss before kissing your forehead. You whimpered joyfully at his affection and hugged him tightly.
"Want some cold eggs and pancakes?" Chimney asked, "Though I think the pancakes have turned into a deliciously frozen mush by now. Might need a spoon to eat it if I'm being honest..."
"Yucky..." You grumbled at him.
Chimney chuckled and patted your head, but even though he was being affectionate and silly, you knew him well enough to know when he was sad. "Daddy Chimney, please tell me why you're sad," You look at him, pouting hopefully.
Chimney looked at you, observing the concerned, hopeful expression on your face and thinking about how sometimes it felt like no one knew him better than you. "I uh... I just had a rough couple days at work. That's all," He rubbed his lips together tightly, nodding stiffly, "What about you? You do anything fun this weekend?
"What happened?" You asked, twisting around in his lap to better see his face.
Chimney paused, stared at you and sighed. He didn't want to project his own burdens onto you- not in the slightest fashion, but you were always so determined to fish them out of him, and he felt guilty for denying you. But he would also feel guilty for telling you how he felt. When failures at work happened, everyone departed with a measly "we did the best we could", and usually they never spoke of it again.
Over the months, a lot gets bottled up. Guilt, sadness, fear, anxiety and hopelessness. Like right now, Chimney could not stop looking at you and imagining you in the same place the people they couldn't save had been. He could lose you so fast and so easily, and it terrified him. Not to mention how awful the victim's family must feel.
"I just... They were... There were just some people I couldn't save." He softly admitted, gazing away regretfully, "Yeah..."
This wasn't the first time your father had admitted to losing people on the job. Bobby and Hen had explained to you how not every person in the world can be saved. Sometimes outcomes are unavoidable. Trying their best is all that they could do.
Gazing around in thought, you shuffle forward and wrap your small arms around his shoulders in a warm hug, "Thank you."
Chimney twitched a little, confused as he hugged you back, "For what?"
"For trying to help those people," You explain, "They can't be here to thank you anymore, so I'll thank you for them. Thank you, daddy Chimney."
Immediately Chimney's eyes watered and his heart throbbed. His arms around you tightened and his lips wobbled. He sniffed and shook his head, unbelievably grateful that you were his child, "Ugh-gu-gu. There you go again with those crocodile tears. Man, you really gotta slow down with those. I'm drowning over here."
"It's okay to cry, daddy," You giggle, still hugging him.
And finally, Chimney relaxed. "Yeah," He sniffled again, bowing his head, "It is."

Evan Buckley
It was late at night when Buck finally made it home. He was exhausted and yet far from being clear-headed enough to go to sleep. Thousands of thoughts plagued his mind while sadness, guilt, and regret pulsed through his body. He was anxious and ashamed and haunted by his latest shift's failures.
After politely sending your nanny home, Buck quietly wandered into your room and gazed upon your peacefully snoozing figure. Relief from your assured safety engulfed him and had him sighing softly. Seeing you after such a difficult shift was a sight for traumatized eyes.
Unable to avoid the protective urges inside him, Buck walked further into your room and carefully sat down on the edge of your bed. You were in your pajamas, wrapped up in a blanket and snuggling your pillow. It had Buck smiling with loving endearment. You were so precious.
Reaching out a hand, Buck gently caressed your face, delicately moving loose stands of hair out of the way and brushing your warm cheek. "Mm?" You stirred at this, however, but Buck had been anticipating your awakening, "Daddy?"
"Hey monkey," Buck said almost shakily for he was still emotional from his shift, "Sorry, I-I didn't mean to wake you, I just... I just really wanted to see you is all."
"Oh," You yawn cutely, stretching your arms out before lifting them up, "Hi daddy."
"Hi baby," Buck encompassed you in his big, incredibly safe arms, and he inhaled your comforting scent when you hugged him back, "I missed you."
"I missed you too, daddy," You mumble tiredly, feeling cozy enough in his embrace to easily be lulled back to sleep.
But, as childish and immature as it may seem, Buck couldn't stand to be by himself right now- not while he felt like this. He needed you. "Hey," He smiled cheesily, "I was thinking... Why don't you and I go out and get some ice-cream?"
"Hm?" That peaked your interest, and you leaned back to blink at him in confusion, "But... All the ice-cream places are closed..."
"W-well, they... There's gas stations," Buck shrugged, chuckling a bit, "And gas stations have lots of ice-cream. At least I think they do, ha... Do they?"
You yawned again and nodded, "Ok, daddy."
Feeling slightly guilty for waking you up, Buck reached out, scooped his arms around you and hauled you against his hip, "There. Ready?"
Holding onto his neck, you nod and go to rest your head against his chest, listening to the comforting sound of his heartbeat as he carried you through the house and out to the car. He was so warm and cozy and safe.
Buck drove you to a nearby gas station, carried you inside, picked out some frozen desert and took you for a drive down old roads. You had woken up just enough to enjoy your ice-cream before nodding back off in the backseat. It was then that he went back home and carried you inside.
Instead of carrying you to your room though, Buck carried you to his room. He couldn't help it. His feelings and anxiety were driving him insane and he needed to know with utmost assurance that you were safe. So he laid you down on his bed, tucked you in, and went to the restroom to change in his own pajamas.
By the time he went back, you were sitting up in bed blinking groggily at him, "Daddy?"
"What's up, monkey?" He asked, sitting down in the spot next to you.
"You can't sleep?" You ask in a very adorable yet concerned tone.
Welp, Buck knew he was bound to get caught. This was kind of a bad habit he had; like a child who needed a toy to sleep with for safety- only this way it you he was trying to keep safe. By now you had experienced loads of his breakdowns, and that normally included late-night snacks, games, movies, and/or drives that ended with you sleeping in his arms.
Come to find out, it was a habit Buck started because he was scared.
"Uh..." Buck took in a deep breath, "Yeah- well- no-I... I can sleep, I just... I just really wanted some ice-cream... a-and a roommate, ha."
Crawling over to your father, you snuggle against his side and look up at him, "What happened?"
Buck held one arm around you, his heart clenching at the thought of you being in the same place as the kids that they had lost yesterday. Tears pricked at his eyes, his throat swelled and his body stiffened. "I'm- I just... I'm just so grateful that you're here, (y/n)."
"Huh? But I'm always here, daddy," You say, smiling, "So everything's okay. You don't have to be sad. Please don't be sad.
Buck briskly wiped his eyes and nodded, his smile crooked but grateful, "You're right. I love you so much, monkey."
Brightened by his positive response, you hugged him back and whimpered happily, "I love you too, daddy."
Buck held you long after you fell back asleep, simply needing you close so that he knew that you were alive, safe, healthy and happy. He loved you so much that the thought of losing you made sleeping during some nights to difficult to face alone.

Too late - Evan Buckley
Pairing: Evan Buckley x gn!reader
Summary just a short blurb in which the reader decides to finally tell Buck how they feel about him
Word count: 422 damn my bad
Warnings: none I think
For the past few days, you had been gathering up courage to finally confront Buck and tell him how you feel. Hen and Chimney were absolutely rooting for you and even Maddie was convinced that Buck felt the same way about you.
You and Buck had become close friends ever since you joined the 118. For you, those feelings quickly grew to something more than just friendship. You kept your feelings hidden for years, but a conversation that took place a couple of weeks ago made you change your mind.
“I think it’s time for Buck 3.0.” He said, leaning against the fire truck.
Chimney snorted. “Here we go.”
“No, I’m serious, you know. I know I said that Buck 2.0 would be different, but this time I’m actually going  to change.”
You raised your eyebrows at him. “Really?”
“Don’t be so skeptical, y/n. You just wait and see.” He said with a smirk on his face.
Hen gave him a pat on the shoulder and walked away with a smile on her face.
“Whatever you say, Buckaroo.” Chim said.
Buck pouted. “Why does no one here actually have faith in me?” He said, putting a hand over his heart, feigning being hurt.
You laughed and shook your head. “Because we all know you, Buck.”
Buck gasped. “Ouch, that hurt.”
You, however, were head over heels in love with the guy. So, you believed him when he said he would change, and you decided that telling him how you feel could maybe work out.
So here you were, on his couch, Chinese take away food on the coffee table and feet in his lap. This wasn’t unusual for you and Buck; you both had found some sort of comfort in watching movies together.
Buck noticed you weren’t paying attention to the movie anymore, so he turned to look at you. “You good?” He said, before looking back at the television.
You cleared your throat and sat up a little straighter. “Yeah, there’s just something I want to tell you. It’s been on my mind for a while.”
“Shoot.” He said, not realizing how anxious you were.
You took a deep breath and relaxed your shoulders. You only live once, right?
“I-…” you started to say, but his phone ringing interrupted you.
Buck sighed and held up a finger to pause you.
He smiled at the caller ID and picked up his phone. His next sentence shattered your heart and you felt like the dumbest person on the planet; you should’ve known.
“Hey baby, what’s up?”

In the fifteen years that has passed Bucky and Y/n became grandparents to a whopping eleven beautiful grandchildren. Each one of them being well and truly spoiled by their grandparents.
Georgia and Billy got married six months after they proposed to each other, two months later they found out they were having a baby. Natalia was born three weeks prematurely, though still tiny she was strong, always kicking her little legs out and had a set of lungs on her. Two years after Georgia gave birth to another baby girl naming her Scarlet after Billy’s favourite superhero character the Scarlet Witch.
Another two years go by and she gives birth to another baby girl named Aurora, or Rory as Y/n always calls her. Four years later Georgia rings her mom to say she’s pregnant again, the whole family getting a shock of a lifetime when they find out that she was pregnant with triplets. Two girls and a boy, Marya, Django and Rebecca, named after Wanda and Pietro’s parents and Bucky’s sister.
Jamie had three children with his now ex-wife, Nicole, though they divorced and she remarried they remained good friends and were amazing at co-parenting with each other. Ryder, Levi and Angel. Angel was born on Bucky’s birthday which he did not shut up about.
Stevie and his boyfriend Ryan had adopted a baby girl when she was a month old, she had the most brightest green eyes Y/n had ever seen. She was born with a cleft lip and her biological mother didn’t want her which was truly a shame as Quinn could melt anyone’s heart just by looking at them.
Sammy and his girlfriend Eva surprised everyone by announcing that she was pregnant, she had been told when she was younger that she was never going to be able to get pregnant which was something she had come to terms with, but she gave birth to a healthy baby boy who they named James, after Bucky and Eva’s dad.
Tumblr media
Howard passed away in his sleep two years after Georgia got married. Y/n and Tony held his hands when he passed. He was buried with his one true love, Maria. With Grace on one side and on the other was George and Winnie.
Tumblr media
Grace and Bunny’s Haven became successful, another two Havens in different locations had been build and were now being used by men and women. There were plans to build a fourth Haven but it had to be put on hold.
In a year they must have seen hundreds of faces and heard similar stories. No matter how many times she heard them it didn’t stop her heart from aching each time.
Tumblr media
Bucky’s and Y/n’s marriage was just as strong as it had ever been, Steve mocked them once for being sickly sweet so Bucky grabbed Y/n by her hand and pulled her into him and kissed her, both putting on a little show for their friends. That was until Georgia was sick.
She was pregnant at the time.
That’s their defence anyway.
The love that they had for each other continued to grow as the years went on. He was still her Ducky and she was still his Bunny. Natalia once asked Y/n if Bunny was her real name and she had to explain that it was a nickname, then explained why her grandpa called her Bunny, the little girl smiled before running to tell Georgia that her grandmas real name wasn’t Bunny.
Two weeks before Y/n and Bucky celebrated their thirty ninth wedding anniversary Y/n started coughing up blood, Bucky rushed her straight to the hospital panic filling his veins the whole time he drove there.
After blood tests were done a doctor sat the couple down and told Y/n that she had cancer. It was terminal.
It took her back to when Maria had been told the same thing, and just like Maria she didn’t cry no she asked questions whilst Bucky held her hand tighter and tighter to the point where it was hurting her but she never once removed her hand away from his. She needed him. Needed him to help ground her.
Y/n begged Bucky not to tell anyone, at least not until after their anniversary which he hesitantly agreed.
They spent their anniversary at the cabin they had been renting for the past thirty nine years to celebrate the date they became one, through the whole week they were there Bucky cried, he couldn’t understand why it was her that had cancer, to him it wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that she out of all people had been diagnosed with cancer, it’s wasn’t fair after all her kindness and love she shared and gave to others that she was going to be dying a slow death.
He couldn’t understand how she remained so calm throughout her diagnosis and the week they were away.
“I’ve lived an amazing life Ducky, everything will be okay I promise” she told him as she held him in her arms, wiping his tears off his cheeks and kissing his forehead.
A week after finding out that she had terminal cancer she and Bucky sat their kids down, their hearts breaking at seeing and hearing the most important people to them crying, shaking their heads in denial, Y/n got up and grabbed a hold of her children squeezing them into her chest tight, telling them how much she loves each and every one of them. She couldn’t stress enough of how proud she was of them. Bucky joined in on the family hug, all six of them crumbling together on to the floor.
Telling the group plus Tony was difficult too, all of them in denial about what Y/n was telling them. Each of them couldn’t believe that the strongest one out of them all had been diagnosed with a vile disease such as cancer.
Even with getting chemotherapy to try and slow down the cancer she was becoming weaker not like it stopped her from doing her work at Grace and Bunny’s Haven. Bucky tried and failed to get her to slow down but she wouldn’t, couldn’t as she wanted to continue being there for those who came to her for help before she passed.
Tumblr media
“Nanny sweetie” Y/n looked down to see Quinn staring up at her with those wide green eyes that she loved so much.
“You want a sweetie darling?”
“Yes pwease nanny”
“Who am I to say no to you huh? Go ahead and get one sweetheart”
“You spoil her too much you know mom” Stevie said as he came into the living room where she was.
“I know I do but look at them cheeks”
Stevie stood by the couch and stared down at his mom, his heart ached at seeing her looking weak, something he never thought he would ever see or say about his mom. To him she was the strongest person he had even known and possibly would ever know. It had been just over a year since her diagnosis and though she was getting chemotherapy it wasn’t doing much other than delay the inevitable.
Two months prior Y/n and Bucky celebrated their fortieth anniversary, their children planned and organised a party for them at their home. Family and friends were all there to celebrate the love and memories of their time together.
Y/n cried at the surprise and seeing all their loved ones all together, Bucky cried knowing it was the last anniversary they were going to celebrate.
“H-how are you feeling today mom?”
“I’m okay don’t worry about me pumpkin”
“Mom-“ he sighed softly he knew she was still putting up a front, still trying to keep up a positive outlook though all those around her could see her smile fading everyday. “How are you, really?”
“I-I’m scared of dying if I’m honest Stevie, b-but like I told your dad I’ve lived a great life so I’m okay with what’s happening”
Stevie sits next to his mom holding her hands as he started to struggle with keeping his tears at bay. The strongest person he knows had just told him that she was scared. He didn’t realise that he had tears falling from his eyes until Y/n reached out and wiped his cheeks.
“Oh don’t cry my dear boy, everything will be okay I just know it”
“B-but you’re going to die mom, your d-dying an-an-and I can’t do anything to s-stop it from happening” Stevie stuttered out, he was always the one out of the four siblings that wanted to help everyone and anyone, he always felt like he had failed somehow if he couldn’t help people.
“St-Stevie look at me- oh my sweet boy everything is going to be okay I promise. You can’t control this and neither can I but everything will be okay”
“B-but what do I do without you momma?”
“Live your life to the fullest, love until your heart and soul are content, make memories and for the love of god keep being yourself Stevie. And when things get tough just look up at the sky night or day and just know I’m looking down on you, even though I’m not going to be here physically doesn’t mean your getting away from me, alright?”
Stevie nods with tears running down his cheeks, hugging his mom tightly and promising her that he will do everything she told him too. They separate when Quinn comes stumbling over with chocolate all over her face, smiling widely not understanding the conversation between her dada and nanny.
Tumblr media
A month after having that conversation with Stevie, Y/n took a turn for the worse. Bucky knew the end was near for his Bunny, when that realisation hit him he went to the toilet and puked up.
On Wednesday 20th August, Bucky stood from the doorway watching his wife, his one and true love, his Bunny sleeping in their bed, his coloured eyes went from her face to her chest to make sure it was still rising.
“Y-you watching me sleep Ducky?” Her soft voice whispered filling in the quiet room.
“Of course my sweet Bunny”
“Duck-“
“Not today baby please”
“I-I don’t think I have another d-day in me Duck”
“Pl-please Bun”
Y/n smiled weakly, slowly patting the bed for him to come over. Holding his hand she raised his hand to her lips where she placed a lingering kiss to his knuckles.
“I-I don’t want the kids being in the room when I go Ducky, please promise me that they won’t be here.”
“Why?”
“It’s not fair on them to see me go Ducky, so please promise me”
“I-I promise Bunny, I promise”
Hand in hand for about thirty minutes, Bucky slowly stood and stumbled downstairs to grab his phone. Ringing Georgia his voice shook as he told her that she needed to get everyone to the house so that they could say their goodbyes, leaning heavily against the counter his heart cracking when he could hear his oldest child breaking down on the other end of the phone, he could hear Billy’s voice cracking in the background as he tried to get their children ready.
Coming off the phone to Georgia he rang Jamie to tell him the same, he knew he was currently with the twins. He rang Tony, then Steve asking his longest friend if he could tell everyone else, he simply couldn’t have that conversation once again. Climbing the stairs and heading into their bedroom Bucky sighed a breath of relief when he noticed her chest still rising and falling, he let her know that everyone was on their way.
“Duck, have I ever told you how much I love you?”
“Every day for the past forty three years” Bucky admits with a smile.
“Thank you for the best years of my life James, you’ve al-always made me happy you know? You’re my world, my light, my better half my love, I’ve lived a life full of happiness and I’ve known true love because of you, so thank you Ducky”
Bucky makes no attempt to wipe the heavy stream of tears away, he tries to find the words to tell her how much she means to him but before he could find them the bedroom door opens revealing his greatest achievements.
Their children.
Bucky sits back and lets his children and best friends say their goodbyes in their own ways, his heart feeling heavier and heavier the longer they are there. He sits there with his hand in hers watching his Bunny smile at each member of their very large family, he knows that she accepted her fate the moment the doctor told her the news, he knows even though she’s scared of death and of the unknown that comes with it, scared of leaving her loved ones behind and of the thought of never seeing any of them again.
Despite the ending of her story coming to an end so soon she still keeps a smile on her lips, trying to show her family that it’s okay, it’s okay that she’s going to be going to sleep soon and never waking back up.
After an hour of being surrounded by the people who meant the world to her she gives Bucky a look silently telling him that it was time. Choking back a sob he tells his children and best friends that they needed to leave, each of them confused until Y/n speaks up and tells them that she doesn’t want any of them being there, each of them trying to protest - fear and the truth of what was happening making them stay in place, until Bucky gave them all a single look.
The family they created stumbled out of the room, holding on to each other. Before shutting the door behind him Tony took one last long at his baby sister, his heart breaking at the sight in front of him.
Bucky climbing into the bed next to his only love clinging to her like a lifeline.
“I love you Bunny, I love you so much Y/n thank you for everything. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be yours. I-I love you, I love you.” Bucky whispers as he sees the eyes belonging to the only woman who he’s ever loved purely and deeply, the woman who he watched give life four times, the woman who gave his life meaning. The woman who he’s loved since he was an innocent little child who didn’t really know the meaning of love, starting to flutter closed.
“I’ll be with you soon my love” he again whispers, so terrified to speak any louder as she would hear the way his voice cracks, he needed to be strong for her. He couldn’t let her down.
Georgia walked into the room with slow timid steps. Falling to her knees with a loud thud she releases a gut wrenching sob which has her brothers, uncles and aunts flinching and bowing their heads.
“Wh-when do we get to give nanny her birthday presents?” Rory asks innocently, completely unaware of why everyone was crying.
Tumblr media
Standing in front of so many people, many she knew, many she didn’t. Georgia though her heart ached as she stood at the podium next to her mommas coffin she smiled. Smiled at seeing that so many people had come to say goodbye and pay their respect to her beautiful mom, smiled at seeing them all dressed in bright clothes. Georgia told everyone that she didn’t want anyone wearing black.
Georgia smiled at seeing all the people who had gone to Y/n to seek help had arrived at the church. The air got caught in her throat when she saw the four women and the first man who were the first people to arrive at Y/n’s sanctuary were all sitting together.
“My mom was the greatest woman I had ever met, strong and beautiful. Her heart knew no bounds, she always saw the good in people. My mom was my best friend, the person so many people could turn to for help or a shoulder to cry on o-or just someone to hold them. My mom is and will always be my hero. Her laugh was infectious and so was her smile, my mom would make jokes about things that weren’t really funny but she would laugh and you just couldn’t help but laugh along. She truly was an inspiration to me and too many others. Her love for my dad was beyond words, she loved him so deeply and wholeheartedly, so purely. I am beyond proud to say that I am the daughter of Y/n Barnes”
She looks towards Billy who nods slowly as to encourage her to continue. She wipes the tears from her eyes.
“My dad was incredible, funny, loving and one of the kindest men I had ever met. My dad was the reason why my mom was able to create Grace and Bunny’s Haven, he supported her every step of the way, supported strangers and friends. His love like my mom’s knew no bounds-“ the feeling of her throat drying and closing has her coughing lightly.
“I’m sorry. The love my dad had for my mom was so strong that everyone who knew or just saw them together could see how much he loved her, could see that my mom was his whole world. I am beyond proud to say that I am the daughter of James Barnes”
Looking sadly at her father’s coffin lying right next to her moms she breathes deeply. “On behalf of my family I would like to say thank you to all those that have come today, thank you for donating money towards Grace and Bunny’s Haven, thank you for your kind words and stories of how our parents touched your lives. Tha-thank you”
Steve watches his niece as she steps down from the podium, her hands shaking as she moved towards Billy who stood up and took her hand in his. “I’m so proud of you baby” he whispered into her ear. He smiled at the memory of Bucky doing the same to Y/n when she spoke at Maria’s funeral.
He looks at the two coffins lying there, knowing that his two best friends were in them, knowing that one died of cancer and the other of a broken heart, made his eyes sting with unshed tears.
Tumblr media
Y/n passed away in the arms of her Ducky.
Bucky passed away with his arms around his Bunny.
And side by side they were buried next to their parents.

Hai! I was wondering if you take requests for Lalo? If you do I was thinking a Lalo x reader x Saul 👀 in the situation where Saul went out to the desert and Lalo met Kim for the first time surprised that Saul could pull someone like her. In this case Lalo gets to intervene with the reader? 😈
i kept this gender neutral since i didn't see myself being able to write feminine reader right now. sorry! hope you still like it :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You weren't supposed to be here.
You weren't supposed to be imitating a lawyer on the case of Jorge De Guzman. You weren't supposed to be in this chair right now, leg nervously bouncing subconsciously.
You especially weren't supposed to be talking to Lalo Salamanca.
He hadn't said a word since the guard had brought him in. Only eyeballing you as he sat down with a gaze you couldn't read even if you wanted. Really, the only audible sound that had been made was the sound of the heavy metal door locking shut from behind the two of you.
It made you nervous. This whole situation made you nervous. You hadn't seen Jimmy for the past two days, and all you had to go on was a name.
Eduardo Salamanca.
Just hearing about him from Jimmy made you grit your teeth with nerves. You weren't into law like he was, instead opting for a much different profession, but you were pretty sure being offered to pick up seven million in cash for someone currently lying his ass off to get out of jail wasn't typical client/lawyer behavior.
"Uh. Hi."
He just kept staring at you. Expression unmoving.
"So, er, I'm not a lawyer. If you couldn't already tell." You tapped your fingers against your opposite arm in a way to comfort yourself. Something that Lalo picked up on and stored away for later. Not that you would notice his flitting gaze.
"I just want to know where you sent Jimmy. Saul. Mr. McGill. Whoever you know him as."
His eyes were one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen. Jimmy's was a cool blue, often reminding you of the calm sea crashing against a sandy shore. You swore you felt like you were drowning every time you looked into them. But Lalo's were much different. Striking. A deep brown, with a few flecks of what could only be described as a honey like color in them. They were as enticing as anything you had ever seen before, while still reminding you of the situation you were in.
"I have no knowledge of what you speak of."
God, even his voice was soft with a bit of bite to it.
You swallowed uncomfortably.
"Please, excuse my french, but cut the bullshit. I know who you are. Really are. Certantly not some 'De Guzman'." Your fingers formed quotes in the air at the last part. Albeit a bit shaken. "I just want to know where you sent my Jimmy. I don't have any other boons to crave with you."
Lalo clenched his jaw. If Saul—er, Jimmy—had been in the room with them at that moment, the lawyer would have a new hole smack dab in the middle of his forhead to spit gum from. Who was he to share that information with some random person? For all Lalo knew you had been picked up randomly off the streets to come and deliver this message.
But he restrained himself. That hypothetical situation didn't seem likely the longer he sat with you. You were already visibly uncomfortable. No need to increase that. It gained him nothing. Besides, it was something else you said that had caught his rapt attention.
"Your Jimmy." Lalo leaned forward, one eyebrow higher on his face than the other with curiosity. He placed his elbows firmly on the table and rested his chin on the top of his folded hands. It wasn't a question—it was a statement. Repeating your own words back for you.
"Did I say that?" You stumbled through your words now. "I mean, I wouldn't nessicarily say he's my Jimmy. I mean, he's everyone's Jimmy. Howard's, Kim's, that guy from the coffee shop—"
Words died in your throat as you realized the man across from you was no longer listening. Instead he had leaned back a significant amount, clearly getting comfortable, in his own goddamn handcuffs, as he laughed.
"Wow! Just wow. He managed to pull you?" A bright smile had since overtaken his face, as well as a hearty chuckle every now and then. "¡Querido Dios! No pensé que tuviera la capacidad de ir tras tal belleza. Moi bein."
With a clearing of your throat you brought his baby browns snapping back to your face. Not the best feeling if you were being honest.
"I feel like I'm missing something here."
"Ah. You wouldn't get it." He waved you off still smiling. It reminded you of the way you would be excluded from a group of your so called friends back in your school days, clearly being the outsider out of all of them amongst inside jokes and playful banter. You pushed that away, not eager to imagine Lalo as a pimple faced teenager mocking you. You couldn't decide if that would make him scarier or not at this point.
"Oh-kay then." Your voice drew each syllable out unnaturally. Lalo started to drift again, seemingly losing motivation in this conversation. He was interested in whether you would scramble to keep his attention or not. How much you really cared for Saul slash Jimmy. He wasn't disappointed when you quickly picked up your speech again.
"Listen I don't really think you or I want me to be here right now. So if you could just tell me where Jimmy is I'll go and it'll be like this never happened. I swear. Besides me and you—" Your hands gestured back and forth over the metal table, pointing to each of you individually. "—can legally keep this a secret without getting in trouble. On account of, uh, law stuff."
Lalo wanted to laugh. It was amusing to him, this whole situation. Clearly you were someone of interest in his play now. Just another card in the deck he had happened to be delt. And an interesting one too if his assumption about that ring on your finger was right. Which was something you had probably forgotten to remove before coming to visit him. The idea of you being in his line of work crossed his mind before it was shattered with a chuckle. You wouldn't last a day.
"Alright. I'll tell you where he is."
You brightened.
"Right after I get my seven million."
And there it was.
"I can't do that, you sent Jimmy to get it." He watched as you grew more upset, just shrugging with an unbothered smile in response. Your expression didn't change in the slightest even as he offered a shrug of his shoulders and a chippy apology.
"Hey! We're done!" That was all Lalo responded to your distress with, standing up and stretching as much as he could. Words of urgency attacked him from behind as he wandered over to the door and rapped on it. But Lalo couldn't be bothered. You were now a card in his hand, yes, but he would have to set you aside for another time.
"Hey. Listen." He turned around as the guard who had escorted him there opened the large large door, facing you. "I'm sure he'll come back. He's got a mouth on him after all. Managed to escape my cousins wrath, and that's a talent on its own." Handcuffs clicked loudly as they were succumbed around his wrists. Lalo temporarily stopped facing you to look over at the guard, telling him to ease up in spanish.
"But. On the off chance the guy doesn't turn up, feel free to call me anytime azúcar."
A wink was just barely tossed your way before Lalo was gone. The only evidence he had even been in the room a strong smell of cologne and pepper. You thought for a minute about how he manged to smell like that while rotting in jail but quickly shook your head to rid yourself of the thought.
That certantly wasn't how you thought today would go. But based on the flush in your cheeks and dryness of your mouth, you didn't have room to complain.

SHOW YOU WHY — EVAN “BUCK” BUCKLEY x READER x 118: [Spring Prompts]
Tumblr media
A/N: I’m excited to see what the rest of season 7 brings us! This piece can fit for both Buck (since there’s some hints of a crush between reader + Buck—if you squint!) and the rest of the 118. I’m just thrilled to see them all back on screen so I wanted to include everyone in this.
WARNINGS: gave the gender-neutral reader some background & mentions of a tough upbringing + use of curse words!!!
PROMPTS ARE FROM HERE & I’m using: 3. “Welcome to ~allergies~” + 20. “IT’S SPRINGTIME MUTHA-FUCKERS.”
<- read my previous flop of a spring prompt here.
𓇼☾☼𓇼☾☼ 𓇼☾☼𓇼☾☼ 𓇼☾☼𓇼☾☼ 𓇼☾☼𓇼☾☼
Anywhere but here you wanted to be.
You could have gotten out of this too, just like the mayor’s ball back in December but you personally didn’t want to receive an ear-full of a voicemail from your aunt yet again. So you dealt with it (being here on time-except you actually weren’t in your aunt’s eyes) putting in the work to also give “orders” rather than instructions to the workers while she had other hired workers tend to her full attire.
She won a honorary award just last month so she planned on parading that around her birthday party. It wasn’t the smartest move having it right at the entry way of the home, sitting on the center piece of a circular oak table that her great-grandfather built, with party goers but since the spring weather decided to stick in California, your aunt was more than willing to have this gathering out back but not without having most of her guests walk through the front doors first.
The main reason to have this party was for the attendees to constantly compliment the view of the vineyard out back. You already knew your aunt’s (by marriage) game, having the honor of being raised by her from the time you were thirteen. You just wished you could close your eyes, squeeze them really tight to the point that they hurt, and this would be over.
Thankfully an hour into the party, your uncle shows up, rushing in from his work trip out in Finland—don’t ask—brushing his lips against your hairline and giving you a tight side hug before he’s whisked off by his high energy wife of twenty years. That gave you enough time to sneak away from the boring and prying conversations, the set up of trying to date one of the attendees, and hide for a little bit before your cover was blown and you were thrown back into the party of socializing.
Another forty-five minutes pass and you’re getting a text that has you jumping to your feet, swaying a bit before you excuse yourself back into the mediterranean home to greet the guests you’ve been waiting for.
Yanking the door open you yell, “IT’s SPRING TIME MUTHA-FUCKERS! Welcome to my family’s place and I’m so glad you guys could make it.”
Chimney smirks around the chewing of his gum, “can’t say I’ve been greeted like that ever but I’m not complaining! as long as I get to have whatever it is you’ve had.”
You tilt your head to the side at the spikey haired man, “Chim! How many times do I have to tell ya? I’m not a drinker…I’m just spreading all things…spring?”
“I can tell with that outfit.”
A elbow goes to his gut from Maddie while Hen scoffs with a shake of her head at her best friend, who’s now rubbing his torso.
You’re waving the group all in, hugging Athena as she says, “your family has a mighty big house.”
“Yeah, I was just about to say what did they do again?” Eddie is next in embracing you after almost doing a full spin in the entry way, staring up at the high ceilings.
Buck is last to pull you into a hug, lightly rocking you both from side to side while you hold his back, “Can’t believe you grew up here.”
You shrug, “It’s just a house of an Architect and a mayor.”
“You must have had crazy parties here,” Buck is grinning wildly while Eddie is rolling his eyes at him.
“Of course Evan would be the one to think about the parties,” Maddie stares over at her younger brother who’s shameless about his daydreams of what that may have looked like.
You lifted your shoulders, “anyways! Make yourselves comfy but stay away from the Rueger’s—they’re swingers and may try to encourage you into joining their underground society club. A good portion of the people here are uppity but there’s a sprinkle of good ones that you won’t want to kick up the ass.”
“Oh! Say no more, I know exactly who I’m talking to.” Athena shoots a look to Bobby who’s pleading with his eyes to his wife, to just enjoy the party and not interrogate but Athena wouldn’t be Athena if she didn’t go investigate.
Bobby squeezes your shoulder on his way by but keeps his eyes on Athena’s retreating form, “Its good to see you and thanks for the invitation. I’m going to do my best and make sure things don’t erupt into chaos.”
You nod your head, expecting this but let out a sigh although there’s a smile on your lips. Hen takes a step closer to you as you’re now humming, swaying your hands about as if they were floating on water. “Uh, you sure you’re alright? You seem…a little off?”
“What do you mean?” You question, hands moving to float above Hen’s shoulders, almost as if you’re not aware you’re doing this.
This gains the other’s attention as the low haired woman peeks from left to right while you’re making a wave with your hands. “Stop that and hold still.”
“Why? The air never does.”
Which earns a chuckle from Chimney while Hen grips your shoulders, scanning your face and finally focuses on the end of your brow to the lid of your eye.
“Hen, what’s up?” Buck quizzes, eyes steady on you two.
Hen shushes him while she keeps her eyes on you, “how many fingers am I holding up?”
You blink then smile, “two caterpillars,” you speak so matter of factly, ready to spin away from the conversation but Hen is pulling you back by the shoulders.
“Hen—
Chimney tries this time and Maddie is furrowing her brows also confused.
“I think they’re having an allergic reaction.” Hen concludes before directing the rest of her words to you, “your eye area is swelling up and if you didn’t take anything, I’d say you’re also a little disoriented? Maybe even experiencing some brain fog?”
You shrug, “must have been the sea bass or was it trout? that Eitan guy tried to share with me. Whatever, let’s have some fun now that my friends are here.”
You’re dancing now, although it feels like your brain is spinning in slow-motion, yet the outside music is pretty faint.
Buck has his eyes in slits, “who the hell is Eitan?”
“And why was he feeding you?” Eddie added, he didn’t hear any updates about your dating life either and he was sure if it was true, Buck would have been the first to tell him instead.
Maddie stares at the two ridiculous men, “they didn’t say the guy was feeding them.”
Chimney leans towards Hen as her face still holds concern, fingertips lightly pressing on the lymph nodes in your neck which you laugh at the sensation, “Want me to search the house to see what I can find? You don’t think they’re going to stop breathing any time soon do you?”
The way Buck and Eddie snap their attention to the dark haired man’s words; burning their eyes into his frame, makes Chimney realize that it doesn’t hurt to turn down his bluntness some but Hen thinks nothing of it.
“How!” Maddie hisses his name from behind, while Chim holds his hands up to show he has no ill-intent, you were his friend too.
Hen starts, “I don’t think they consumed enough to get to that point but—
“Hey, aren’t you allergic to all things seafood anyway? Why would that jackass give that to you?” Buck interrupts with a cross of his arms, becoming irritated.
Eddie also states, “and why would your tío and tía have that here? Surely they know your health history.”
Maddie also can’t help but to ask in a much more compassionate approach, “How exactly did this happen?”
“I got caught up in the love story Eitan’s ninety year old grandmother was telling me on the right about the love letters she received from her husband in the navy. Eitan’s calling my name from the left to try this and next thing I know, I’m eating fish.” You notify, hoping that answered this test.
Buck scrunches up his nose, “who does this guy think he is? Just spoon feeding you without even knowing your likes, dislikes, and what you can’t have!”
Eddie asserts in agreement as Buck begins to pace now, “I’m sorry but your relatives screwed up.”
“The Tramp too.” Chimney jokes.
You tilt your head to the side while Hen glares and Maddie raises her eyebrows, wanting the man to expand on that.
“Hello! Lady and the tramp anyone? This Eitan guy is obviously the tramp—not your aunt.” Chimney sheepishly smiles, “whew, tough crowd!”
Hen is back to massaging your neck in search of any inflammation while you rant, “Well as auntie Katrina says: you can’t please everyone and sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get to the top. She probably just forgot with all the things on her mind? she was the main one trying to push a love connection between Eitan and I. Also you guys should have seen her earlier. She was all over the place and had to have me take over.” You pull away, coughing into your sleeve, struggling a bit to clear your throat.
The five glance at each other.
You were part of the 118, first somewhat reserved and a little shy rather than closed off but similar to Bobby in a sense when you first joined. It took time to get you to open up, even to Buck who was friendly with everyone. You transferred to the station six months after Buck so he had no issue taking you underneath his wing even if you were complete opposites. It was safe to say that majority of the crew didn’t care for your aunt, simply from the way she spoke to you, and hearing how you tried to sweep the way she treated you growing up away. It was evident verbal abuse but you felt like you owed her something since she stepped in as a mother figure to raise you after the tragedy of losing your own mother.
Part of you knew you shouldn’t feel guilty and that she was the adult who married your biological uncle who was always away—working and that it should have been a given. However when people make you feel like they’re doing you a favor instead of simply caring about you, you just may start to question everything.
Unfortunately, you were the second guesser because of that but not when it came to the field. You became a different person out on the job, quickly thinking and analyzing everything before sprinting into action and that was something the 118 admired.
Maddie and Eddie both share a nod before she speaks, “okay…Eddie and I are going to have a chat with this Eitan guy.”
Buck approved of that although he wouldn’t have minded having a word with Eitan himself, especially if they were all thinking the same thing. Once his eyes flicked back to you after the pair left the room, he noticed the change in your skin gradually and that didn’t sit well with him. So yeah, maybe it was best he stayed behind.
Hen asks you, “Do you have your EpiPen?”
You’re zoning out a bit, eyes disconnecting some but you’re nodding your head as if you’re listening.
So Hen took that as a negative.
“Chim, check the bathrooms for Prednisone or any type of corticosteroid? Even Peppermint oil. If not, try the kitchen for pineapple or even ice just in case.” Hen informs while Chim dips his head before heading off.
Hen smiles as she gently guides you to the stairs which are to the right of the front door, “here, let’s have you sit.”
“But I want to dance!”
“We can do that later,” Buck expresses while following you two, “we just want to make sure you’re okay first and that there’s no funny business going on here.”
Pressing your cheek into your balled up fist you say, “fine…I’ll tell you guys what going on. I’ll come clean.”
Hen and Buck meet each other’s eyes before they peer down at you. Sitting up straight, you exhale and begin to flap your arms like wings, “welcome to…allergies.”
Buck honestly found this a little cute although he didn’t appreciate the increase in size of your brow and eye now but at least you were in good spirits. Even if it seemed like the rest of the 118 were speculating something much more than a simple case of allergies.
“I’m going to move things further along and find the kitchen. Buck, Call out to me if anything changes.” Hen decides before making her exit.
He calls out to her, “You got it.” Then he’s turning back to stand in front of you while you beam up at him, “what’s going on in that field full of daisies of a mind of yours?”
“It’s actually Lillie’s but,” you clear the scratch of your throat again, “I don’t know, I felt kinda anxious being back here but knew I would be okay once you were the first to agree on showing up.”
Buck furrows his brow at the last bit of the sentence, “did you think I wouldn’t?”
“Well…you’ve been busy with Natalia.” You’re blinking your inflamed eye to see if it was tingly or sticky, “Didn’t want to intrude on your quality time.”
“You wouldn’t be, you’re actually one of my best friends and it’s always cool for us to hang out whenever,” Buck replies, “by the way that relationship is over with…and you’ve got that same look on your face as Eddie.”
You actually imagined yourself to look like that one Ryan Gosling gif but only because you were the last to know.
You breathe out a laugh afterwards, “Sheesh! I’m not going to say finally or I told you so because she was super pretty and helped you pick out a couch which was nice and…are you okay?”
Buck chuckles at your mind still wandering all over the place in conversations, “the couch and I are just fine! Thanks for asking.”
You hum, resting your head against the wall.
“So what’s this Eitan guy like?” Buck suddenly probes.
You blink, “think: tall dark and handsome.”
Buck blurts out with a furrow of his brows, “Sasquatch?”
“…if that’s what you’re into.” Laughter bubbles in your voice at the expression on Buck’s face now.
He holds his hands out, “I’m not even going to entertain that.”
“Aw but it’ll be fun.”
Buck plops down beside you, almost taking up a good portion of the uncomfortable steps. He brushes his shoulder against yours and you meet each other’s gaze.
“I’ve missed you, you know?”
Those words right there almost wiped all weird feelings you were having before and after you ate that food. You were never one to think that anyone noticed if you were around or not so hearing Buck say this to you, made you feel warm inside—better even. Somewhat.
“You taking off for a while made sense,” Buck starts with an exhale, “but I didn’t think that time away included spending it with your aunt Kat.”
Buck didn’t hide his dislike of the older woman but out of the respect he had for you, he kept his feelings to himself yet that didn’t mean he didn’t go off about her to Eddie or Maddie when she clearly upset you.
“…Majority of it didn’t.” You answer.
“Where did you go?”
You pointed as if you were mapping it out in the air, “Chicago, then Texas, and back here.”
“…Do I need to know how that was?” he’s pressing his elbows into his knees, getting comfortable right beside you.
He’s told you all about his adventures across the globe, mostly unwarranted but you didn’t mind. You had a sheltered life while your aunt and uncle went all over to see the world thanks to their professions, so you didn’t get out much until you decided to head to the first state you had the deepest connection to. Where your late mother and uncle were born and raised and ultimately where your mother’s life ended.
“All you need to know is that it brought me back home, to the rest of you.”
“Can’t say I don’t like the sound of that.”
You loop an arm with Buck’s and rest your head on his shoulder, “look at us sitting here being nice to each other with our matching marks.”
“I’m always nice and I think mine is cooler.” He says referring to his own strawberry birthmark.
You nuzzle your face against his navy sweater, “You stating your claim on yours being better really defeats the purpose of you being nice.”
“Well, I mean no harm buuut yours is temporary and reminds me of hippo skin.” He’s leaning away, eyes lowered to get a good look at your face up close.
“…Now I see why you and Natalia broke up.”
If chimney was back, you were sure he’d give you some points for roasting Buck back.
“Ouch.” Buck laughs, resting his cheek against your head.
You echo his laugh, “sorry.”
“Don’t be. I can take a joke and Isn’t this season supposed to be about new beginnings or growth or whatever?” Buck was always interested to see the layers of you.
You gasp, “I thought it was the season of allergies.”
Evan hums, “Is that the story you’re sticking with?”
Before you could reply to that Eddie cuts in, “the story actually checks out…you did in fact ingest some sea bass from the nerdy but surprising good looking Eitan. The fish was a little on the salty side so I see why you only had a small piece.”
“A small piece that was enough to have their face looking like hippo skin!” Buck held his hand out underneath your chin to showcase.
Eddie scrunched up his face after taking a look at yours while you slapped the dark blond on his chest, “why would you choose to compare their allergic reaction to that of all things?”
“Why would you give your critiques of a dish you probably don’t even know how to cook?” Buck fired back.
Before they started to bicker, Maddie claps her hands to silence the two men-children and then turns to you with a soft smile, “Eitan also wanted to come over here and apologize but I told him it would best to just wait it out for awhile.”
“Thanks Maddie.” You smile back at the brunette, preferring to be around your friends instead.
“That’s the smartest thing he’s done today.” Buck huffs while Maddie sends him a warning look, to basically knock it off.
Eventually Hen and Chim make their way back but only Hen has items in her hands.
Chim holds his hands out as he exasperates, “you would think people who have a house filled with eight bathrooms would have basic medicine in their cabinets…it’s odd that the only thing I could find was Omeprazole. And Not even a damn Advil!”
“Okay let’s not turn this into the ID channel guys, I’m alive and well—
“Well…” almost everyone chorus’ in making you equally send them an incredulous look.
Hen is the one to not have chimed in but chooses to squats in front of you, “Eat this and keep this pressed to your face for at least five to seven minutes.”
“Thank you, Hen.”
“No problem,” she smiles before standing up and looking at the rest, “now go mingle everyone instead of being up in their face, I’m sure they’ll be in good hands with Buck—maybe.”
“Hey!”
Hen winks at him before she walks off with Maddie and Chimney who starts talking about the appetizers he noticed by the patio door.
“Marisol’s calling,” Eddie looks down at his phone, “I trust that I can leave two alone for a few minutes.”
Buck shrugs nonchalantly, “That depends—
“Of course you can.” You side eye the man beside you underneath the ice pack.
Eddie snickers before disappearing behind the sliding doors to a room across from the stairs.
Buck’s breathing beside you makes you more calm until he deeply exhales, clearing his throat while you chew on a pineapple as he turns his body to you.
“So why come back?” His island water eyes holds your stare, lightly pushing since you still had time to get the inflammation to go down.
So what better way to wait it out by talking?
Swallowing the fruit you boldly respond, “you would think I took a year off instead of two weeks but…I’d miss you too much. Is that a good enough answer for you Buckley?”
Evan grins as he bumps his shoulder with yours again, “yeah it is! I just wanted to hear you say it.”
You noticed the change of tone in his voice beside you and fought the urge to shudder at it. So you scoff and push yourself off the steps, plate of pineapple long forgotten as you balanced yourself upright while Buck’s got his hands out to catch you if you fall.
The feeling was always mutual, lifting each other up and going through the motions together as a team.
“Since you’re so full of yourself, let’s battle it out on the dance floor.”
Buck frowns as he glances down at his wrist, “I think you still have another three minutes and thirty-nine seconds left to go…and they’re playing jazz.”
“What’s wrong with that? Would you rather hear The White Stripes or Backstreet Boys…I could make a request if you like?” You teased while Buck pushes himself to his feet.
He blows out a breath, “I tell you one time that Maddie and I had a jam session to that boy band on my sixteenth birthday road-trip to cheer me up and you won’t let it go.”
“I’m not shaming you.” You raise a hand in surrender, “I’m no hater and the band had hits. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, what you did, as long as you love me—it’s all good.”
Buck rolls his head around, “you’re so clever and you don’t have to worry about that so! Let’s just start off with you finishing the rest of those pineapples and I’ll try one of those appetizers before you show me some moves but I don’t think they have anything on mine.”
“Please! I’ll be very shocked to see you do more than a two-step since you also hate karaoke.”
“I don’t hate it.” Buck picks up the plate for you, “I just prefer not to see my sister and Chimney eat their microphones singing while staring into each others eyes.”
“They’re in love Buck, leave them alone!”
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy they found each other. I am their number one fan but that’s still my sister and I don’t need to see more than needed on their love life.” He shudders.
You hook your arm with Buck’s as you begin to walk through the home towards the kitchen, “yeah I guess I get that, yet there’s something so special about seeing people in love! It always shows me why there’s still the urge to keep going, just like us running into fires. Not to just simply put it out but to have a sense of unity when that’s not always common.”
Buck is intently listening and whole heartedly agrees as the both of you settle into the kitchen. He enjoys having conversations with you and you enjoy keeping him company, although he came all this way for you.
Showing up for each other was never foreign but it was times like these, swollen eyed and slightly loopy while the game of politics were being played out in the vineyard, wide grins and random conversations were held inside between the two of you—later joined by the rest of the team—showed that you were surrounded by exactly who you needed to be with.
