Day 4- LGBTQ +

[Technically will be CHp5 of Dear Maria Count me In from Moonacre week 2021, but can be read stand alone)

[Rated M. Warning- it gets spicy in the beginning]

Maria stretched into the air, raising her oversized tee. She brushed her hair into a messy bun and propped her hands on her hips. She was ready for the day. It was Saturday morning and Robin was still asleep... In her bed... and very underdressed... Maria bit her smile as she felt a rush of blood flood her face. A week had passed since their... er...confession. Maria’s heart threatened to burst with joy.

She reached over the sofa and pushed open the window. The warming summer air fluttered in alongside with the sounds of singing birds. It was the only sound in the otherwise quiet city and it wasn’t due to the wee hours of the morning, but the ongoing pandemic that loomed over their heads.

Yet that wasn’t enough to dampen her spirits. For she now had more than she did before COVID, she had finally conquered Robin’s heart! Maria danced with joy. He was finally hers!

With a content sigh, she looked down at her half-packed luggage. They were originally supposed to return to Moonacre last week, but the recent change in their relationship meant they decided to stay a while longer and enjoy each other’s company—something they did very well.

However unfortunately for the two lovebirds, her family was practically begging them to return. They missed Maria dreadfully and no longer believed the many excuses she’d toss their way. Of course, it was Loveday who led this rebellion. She felt it in her gut that something was different between her brother and her husband’s niece, but neither subject was willing to give Loveday the satisfaction of knowing the truth about their relationship.

Clapping her hands together, Maria got to work packing her clothes into her suitcase. It was one of four. She wasn’t sure when she’d be back, so she wanted to take anything she’d need.

Once she finished, she mused over the small suitcase besides her. Since Robin only expected to stay a couple of days, he quickly ran out of clothes. This left her with the perfect opportunity to do some shopping for him (online of course) and add more variety to his wardrobe. At first, he protested, quoting ‘I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker color,’ from Fall Out Boy. Yet, Maria simply ignored him, simply wondering how FOB was still relevant.

Obviously, Maria won in the end, and Robin quickly received a new set of clothes: A light-washed jean jacket, a pastel green and beige bowling shirt, a couple of oversized vintage long-sleeved shirts, a brown cardigan (Robin rolled his eyes when he saw it), and his least favorite item—high-waisted trousers. Robin practically hissed when he saw them. However, it didn’t take long for him to concede that her outfit choices did give him a new air and striking good look. Maria sniggered, she couldn’t wait to dress him up again.

“What’s so funny?” He muttered by her ear as his strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.

“Oh nothing, just imagining Loveday’s reaction when you arrive in your new clothes.” She looked over her shoulder and kissed his lips. She turned in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck to pull him closer.

“Keep imagining because it’s not happening,” he mumbled against her lips.

“What if I ask nicely?”

“Nope,” he tried to say with a note of finality, but he faltered as Maria nibbled his earlobe.

“Robin.... Just... once... please,” she said in between trailing kisses down his neck.

“I’ll give you a better reason to beg.” He lifted her and she wrapped her legs around his hips. Robin leaned in and pressed her back against the sofa. One hand tangled into her hair while the other traced up her leg and under her shirt. She shivered against the cool touch of his fingers as they cupped her breast. Maria nibbled on his bottom lip and raked her fingers down his hair and into his back, relishing the feel of his muscles working to please her. Her fingers snuck underneath the waistband of his knickers—then the phone rang.

Maria recognized Mr. De Noir's Phantom of the Opera ringtone.

"It's your fa—"

"—I know, ignore him," he continued kissing her. Crawling closer between her legs and pulling up her shirt—then the phone rang a second time.

"Robin you should—"

"—he can wait." He had to work a bit more to get Maria to focus on him again, but he was rewarded when she let out a soft moan as he—the phone rang a third time.

"For fucks sake!" Robin pulled away. His eyes threw daggers at his phone, wishing he could destroy it with just one glance.

Maria cupped his cheek and brought his eyes back to hers, “It might be an emergency, you should answer.”

Robin heaved a heavy sigh. "I'm sorry," he mumbled with a quick peck to her lips.

He looked at his phone and groaned. "Fuck, it’s a video call."

He walked to their room, readjusting his knickers along the way, and came back out pulling a shirt over his head.

He sat next to Maria, but she quickly scampered away. "Oh no, no, no! I am not the least bit presentable."

Robin noticed the growing bruises along her neck and had to agree. He sat on the other side and finally answered the phone.

"Ah, good morning, Robin! My boy… Er I hope I’m not bothering you?"

Robin frowned. "No," he grumbled a response.

"Good, good... er where's Maria?"

"She's packing her luggage, do you want me to call her?"

"No! No, it's alright… I think it's better for us to talk first. Yes. I think that’s best.” His father’s eyes trailed off into the distance. "Erm. When are you arriving again?"

Robin scowled. "In 3 days. We spoke about this last night. You called to schedule rehearsals."

"Ah, yes, yes..." his father looked off screen again, he seemed to be mouthing something to someone else.

He was put off by the nervousness in his father’s voice. His father was not a nervous man. Was this a hostage situation? "Are you alright?" Robin asked. “…Do you need help?”

"Oh- er, yes, yes I’m alright. No help needed.”

"Then, is someone sick?"

"No no... nothing like that."

"Are you sure? You called quite a bit, seemed like an emergency."

"In a sense..." his father trailed off, rolling his eyes at whoever was off-screen. Suddenly his father’s mic went mute, it looked like he was having an intense discussion.

"Dad? I can't hear you,” Robin called out, but his father was still muted. “Dad, you’re on mute. Hello?”

"Is everything alright?" Maria asked, watching from the kitchen. She was snacking on some crackers topped with cheese and tomato.

"Dunno, he’s talking to someone off-screen. Seems agitated."

Finally, his father’s audio came back. "Sorry Robin, I had to clear some things. Yes-er- I called to talk to you about something. Something important. Something I've been meaning to tell you. I should have told you a long time ago, I just didn't know how to say it."

"Er... alright... what is it?"

"You know that dinner we're having when you return?"

"Yes..."

"It's an engagement dinner."

"Engagement? Whose?"

"Mine."

"Yours?" Robin laughed. "Who on earth are you engaged to. You’ve been single since mum's death. Said you’d never date again."

"Yes well, life took an unexpected turn.” His father sighed and looked at him, his face serious and grave. “You-you know the person."

"Who is she?" Robin asked incredulously. In all the time he’s known his father, he’s never shown an ounce of interest to another person.

His father sighed and looked once more off-screen, as though seeking encouragement. "He. I-it's a he…”

“Oh… alright… Who is he?”

His father scrunched his face before blurting, “It’s Dulac. I'm engaged to Dulac."

A plate shattered in the kitchen. Robin’s brain short circuited.

He stared at his phone screen, speechless. He heard what his father said, but his brain just couldn't comprehend it. Maria stumbled into his line of sight. Her mouth was wide open. She was as shocked as he was.

"D-Dulac?"

"Yes."

“Your big, scary, life-long friend?”

“Yes.”

“The man I’ve known my whole life?”

“Yes!” His father shouted, now a bright red. “Dulac, the man that’s been by my side your whole life. This man!” His father reached over and pulled Dulac into view. Though his face was grave and set, Dulac was as red as his father.

"How long have you both-- er- been engaged for?"

"About a year now."

"A year!” It was as though another rug had been pulled from under him. “And dating?"

"Not much longer."

“Huh.” Robin cocked his head. He furrowed his brow. He rested his chin on the palm of his hand. You see, Robin’s brain was still processing. He thought long and hard on all his interactions with his father and Dulac, but he just couldn’t find it. He couldn’t pinpoint a time where the relationship between his father and Dulac had changed. He had just seen them only a week ago. Everything was as it always had been. Was he just that daft?

"We’re sorry,” Dulac interjected. His deep and gruff voice seemed to break Robin out of his stupor. “We’re sorry for keeping it a secret for so long. I insisted we tell you as soon as you arrived back to Moonacre, but your dad kept pushing it off."

Robin nodded his head in acknowledgement, but still, he remained silent.

Mr. De Noir’s agitation was growing. He looked between Dulac and Robin, before finally mustering the long-dreaded question, "A-are you mad? At me? At all…all… this?"

"What! No, no!” Robin adamantly shook his head. All his time working with his dad’s historical reenactment theater troupe allowed him to meet all sorts of people. In fact, he could count on two fingers the few times someone’s identity or sexuality threw him for a loop: the first was when his best-friend Richard revealed to be gender fluid; and the second—well this, his father!

“I'm just surprised. Processing is all… Does Loveday know?"

"She figured something was going on, but we just made it official to her as well."

Robin couldn’t wait to talk to his sister. "So, you're gay?"

“Er I believe so, maybe demisexual? I’m still figuring it out myself."

“Fair... I, t-thank you for confiding in me. I, I appreciate it.”

His father nodded. "I’m sorry it took so long for me to get the courage. Thank you for listening. Hopefully three days is enough to process this, but if you need more time, I’ll cancel everything. You and Loveday come first.” Dulac nodded in agreement.

“No, no, that’s not necessary.”

“Are you sure?”

Robin smiled, of course he was sure. His father would move mountains for his children. He had sacrificed so much after his mum’s death, and not once did he complain or make either of them feel like a burden. “Yes, I’m sure.”

“Alright then, I’ll let you go…."

Robin looked over the phone. Maria was now back on the sofa, also seemingly back to herself. She give him a thumbs-up and wave of encouragement.

“Oh, hang on! Congratulations dad. You’ve always done so much for us. I-I want you to be happy. You deserve to be happy—you both do, and Dulac, welcome to our family—officially."

Their faces lit up. Robin was sure his father was getting teary as they hung up.

When the call ended, Robin dropped his phone and covered his face with his hands.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah, yeah. Still processing." His hands slid down his face. "I'm going to have a stepdad… and it's Dulac. Dulac."

Maria nestled into his side. "Who would’ve known. The burliest, manliest men in all the world, together. I love that for them. Breaking stereotypes. I stan those two kings."

Robin chuckled, but there was still a far off look in his eyes.

Maria rubbed his back. “Are you sure you’re, ok?”

"I'm going to have a stepdad..."

"Yes, you are," Maria laughed.

“…and you, you’re going to have two fathers-in-law.”

Now it was Maria’s turn to freeze. She stared at Robin with wide eyes and watched as realization struck his. “W-well, t-that’s if y-you want too—”

“—I do—”

“—A-after you finish school of course—”

“—of course—”

“—S-so it’s settled then—”

“It is.” She brought her forehead to his and looked into his eyes. “But I still expect a proper proposal. A romantic, and proper, proposal. When the time comes, of course—”

“—Of course,” he smiled and kissed her lips, sinking into her sweet caress and resuming where they had left off.

IDK why, but when I first saw Dulac and Coeur, I was like “I ship it”, and its always been in my head since. Then, when I first began writing Dear Maria, I wanted to include a hint of their relationship, but I just couldn't do it naturally so I had to scrap it. BUT when I saw this prompt, i was like “oh man, we are bringing it back!” So thank you @incorrect-quotes-of-moonacre your prompts are always the kick I need to actually get things done! I hope its not too OOC

i ordered some pronoun pins from an etsy shop and they arrived fine and well.... except for a the fact that a month later the same exact pins were delivered to me. again. so ive gotten twice the pins :(

his is on the back of your neck

usually it’s hidden under your hair or the collar of your shirt so no one really sees it

lucifer is curious about it but doesn’t really care to ask

honestly he got really busy after the pact was formed and forgot all about it

you’re late for school one day and rushing to get ready in the bathroom when Lucifer walks by

you have your head down looking for something and he sees it on the back of your neck

literally stops in his tracks and does a double take

“so that’s where it is.”

jumpscare

he asks to see it again

has you sit down in front of him so he can play with your hair and rub his fingers across the mark

he loves that there’s a vow on your body binding you to him that only he can see

unless he gets jealous and “accidentally” uncovers it in front of someone

(also unrelated but imagine giving him head in a position where he can see it—him holding you by the pact mark and guiding you along his length)

Mammon

it’s on your back where your heart would be

you know what it means but you don’t want to tell Mammon about it

he would probably just make fun of you anyways

one day he comes to see you after school, and forgets to knock

unfortunately for both of you, you’re in the process of changing into your pyjamas

he walks in right as you take your shirt off, and he’s greeted by your back and the golden mark that resides there

definitely screams and hides his face in his arm

“w-why are you naked??”

“why didn’t you knock?!”

you finish putting on your shirt and lay down on your bed, stomach first

“mammon, you can open your eyes now”

he awkwardly does, relief washing over him when he sees that you’re fully clothed

“so what did you need?”

“was that my pact mark on your back?”

you agree and then ask if he wants to see it

he does but insists it’s just to see what it looks like (no other reason)

you lift the back of your shirt up and continue laying down on your stomach

Mammon feels really emotional looking at it

his pact mark, on his human?

he traces the outline of it, in awe of how it looks on your skin

neither of you say anything for a while, you just lay there contentedly while he runs his fingers over the mark over and over again

Levi

his is on your left thigh, just below where your underwear sit

what better placement for the Avatar of Envy?

you couldn’t find it at first, but you could feel it

when you did finally find the orange mark on your leg, you knew that Levi would implode if he ever found it

Levi sees you showing his brothers their pact marks and gets a little a lot jealous

doesn’t confront you about it tho and instead decides to go pout in his room about it

when you come in to check on him, he’s a little cold with you

“cmon leviachan, talk to me. what’s got you so upset?”

you have to listen to a five minute self deprecation spiral before he even tells you why he’s upset

“levi…you know that if you wanted to see your mark, all you had to do was ask, right?”

he’s a little embarrassed about it now but with some gentle coaxing you manage to calm him down enough and get him to sit on the bed across from you

when you start unbuttoning your pants, his face burns

“OMG y/n, w-what are you doing?”

“calm down, Levi…just, look, okay?”

you tug your pants down to your knees and stretch out your left leg so that he can see the orange mark

“open your eyes, Levi, it’s just my underwear”

Levi wants to argue that it’s not just your underwear but he shuts up when he opens his eyes and sees the mark

it’s on your thigh of all places???

if people thought he was a pervert before, what would they think of him now??

“Levi,” you say, trying to bring him back to reality

when that doesn’t work, you grab his hand and place it over your thigh

his hands are warm compared to your cold skin and it grounds you both

“are you better now?”

he nods slowly, unable to look at you while his hand is on your bare thigh

Satan

his is on the left side of your rib cage

it’s just hidden enough that even if you wear crop tops, he wouldn’t be able to see it

he definitely went around asking his brothers where theirs was in order to process of elimination where it is

he doesn’t want you to just tell him

he feels like he should be able to know/guess where it is just based on the connection

probably overworks himself trying to figure it out

finally, after a few nights of detective work and little sleep, you force him to lay in his bed

“I’m going to show you where it is, and in return, you’re going to actually get some sleep”

he begrudgingly agrees, propping his head up on the headboard to watch you

you straddle his hips and slowly strip your shirt off, adjusting so that he can see the green mark of wrath

his mouth goes dry seeing it

he definitely didn’t consider that it would be there of all places

reaches out and brushes his fingers across it

“is it everything you hoped for” you joke

but it really is everything he hoped for

Asmo

its below your belly button, stopping just above your pubic bone

it’s kinda the perfect spot for him too

a cute little pink swirl leading to your precious parts

Asmo likes to giggle and speculate where it shows up

honestly he hopes a little that it ends up over your heart, but he won’t be disappointed otherwise

loves to tease you about the mark too

one day you’ve had enough of his teasing and speculation though

“I’m putting this to rest, Asmo,” and you take him to your room and make him sit on his knees in front of you

you roll up your shirt and he can see just the beginnings of it under your belly button

then you unbutton your pants and roll them down to your thighs so he can see the rest of it

his eyes are practically glowing when he sees it

“it’s so pretty!!” he gushes

asks if he can touch it and you agree, gasping when his perfectly manicured fingers brush across your mark

presses a kiss to it and leaves a glob of sparkly lipstick behind

begs you to let him take a picture of it to keep (and may or may not set it as his Home Screen)

also expect him to be admiring it and touching it anytime he sees it

Beel

his showed up just above your belly button

he always wondered where it was but never thought to ask

if you wanted to show him, you would…right?

eventually gives in to his impulses and asks you directly

“y/n…” bro is sweating buckets

you’re genuinely worried something is wrong by how serious he is at first

“what’s up?”

“I just wanted to know…where’s my pact mark?”

you’re honestly relieved it wasn’t anything too serious

“follow me”

you bring him into your room and close the door behind him

honestly Beel starts to worry where it is

when you slowly peel off your t-shirt, he covers his eyes and his cheeks flush

you have to pry his hand off of his eyes to even get him to look

“beel—calm down. it’s on my stomach.”

he’s breathless when he sees the swirling red mark

asks if he can touch and you nod eagerly

his touch is gentle, calloused fingers smoothing over your skin

you’re not sure what prompts you to ask, but suddenly you’re looking up at him through your lashes and asking “do you like it?”

Beel doesn’t even know what to respond to that

of course he likes it

it’s a mark that ties the two of you together

instead of answering, he chooses to press a soft kiss to the centre of your mark

Belphie

belphie’s is a tramp stamp

it’s on your lower back, right on the spot where your t-shirt always rides up while you sleep

you’re half convinced that it only showed up there as a joke

Belphie never really cared much to see it either

like he always saw his brothers asking and fawning over theirs but he just…didn’t care

he always felt a bit of a disconnect regarding your pact tbh

he comes home early from school one day to take a nap and sees you already sleeping on the couch

you’re curled up in a ball, your face shoved in the cushions

and your shirt is twisted and has started to ride up as you move in your sleep

he sees the mark and his first thought is “y/n has a tattoo?”

he moves closer to see what it is and as soon as he realizes it’s his pact mark he almost falls over

it’s there of all places?

because of fucking course it is

he kinda just sits on the floor next to you for a while admiring it while you sleep

until he notices you’re shivering and feels like he has to do something about it

slowly pulls down your shirt over the mark he loves so much and lays his jacket on top of you

« that is quite literally not what happened, the guy you see over there just told me i should come to the game and invite hanbin too » you reply clarifying

« sooo, it’s exactly as hanbin described it » mark said.

you couldn’t have your man think that he has any competition when it comes to you (not that he cares anyway, this is very much a one sided relationship and you know it). but still, upon seeing the five other men nod you truly start to wonder if all of them are just collectively stupid because they’re men or if you’re the one that’s being dense

« OH! you’ll get to meet chenle, he’s been wanting to meet you for awhile- speak of the devil there he is! » your friend jaemin starts then waves at a man that is currently running towards all of you

« you guys actually came -» chenle starts before being cut off by hyuck « yea we did » . while all of the guys sigh and shake their heads you’re snickering as that is 100% a joke you could’ve made yourself, and meeting eyes with your friend hanbin that’s giving you a look that screams ‘this is a joke you could’ve made’ gives you all the reassurance you would need.

the loud noises erupting from the stadium managed to drown out the voices of the friend group in front of you. it isn’t until you hear your name being said that you realize not only where you are but who you’re with

« it’s good to meet you, i was feeling left out as i was the only one who hadn’t met you yet. I wish i could speak more but i need to go back to stretch a bit before the match, talk to you after? » chenle asks, to which you only nod before he scurries back to his team

that’s right, chenle IS a basketball player of course his friends would be there..

« cmon guys, let’s go sit » jeno hurries all of you as he wants to get good seats before ‘the fangirls arrive’ (you secretly thank god the man doesn’t know about your little mark obsession seeing how he feels towards the basketball groupies)

« dude what if during the game a basketball comes flying to your head and your man catches it going like ‘you alright’ tryna rizz you up just like the meme you posted on twitter yesterday » hanbin whispers, still all too loudly for your liking tho

« i beg of you to shut the fuck up the man is quite literally three people away from you » you whisper back slightly pinching his arm as he winces in pain.

you can’t have mark know about your delusions. ever.

and even though the seating system (hanbin, you, jaemin, jisung, mark, haechan and jeno) would make it difficult for mark to hear the whispers you share about him you don’t want to take any chances. you are practically surrounded by his friends after all.

and two hours later the match was done, chenle’s team winning of course and you were heading out when the guys stopped both you and hanbin

« we’re going to celebrate, not sure how yet but you guys wanna join? » jeno asks and hanbin agrees without even caring if you wanted to join them or not. when confronting him the only thing he replied was «what? we’ll probably get free food or drinks outta this, you should thank me ». the audacity of a bitch.

Man... that sure is a r18+ game that I just played. That being said, there are some pretty interesting things after a lot of the smut parts were done. You can play the game here if you are interested. This is a game submitted to the Stained Red Yandere Jam which I will not only be participating in but also do recommendations from.

The story starts out with Hex on the news learning about how five reporters went missing after trying to go after a snuff streamer. Hex doesn't believe the news at first but becomes curious, searching into it. After some searching and getting a link, they log into one of the streams to see of course, a snuff stream. While horrified by the death of the lady on stream, Hex becomes entranced with their voice, something that they try to fight the urge to look to again. The next day, they go to the mall to get some snacks and hang out, only to have someone tap on their shoulder when resting. They find a chocolate in their pocket and presumably get their keys stolen (though they don't seem to realize this, believing they lost their keys) before going to sleep after the neighbors help them get in. After a restless night of what they presume to be sleep paralysis of being touched and watched, they get the morbid feeling of wanting to watch the snuff streamer again, to which they do. After jacking off and promptly falling asleep watching the stream, they wake up with a jolt, only to be kidnapped. Upon waking up, they find that they are indeed, captures by the person who they've been watching streaming. Hex actually gets quite into this, not only deepthroating but straight up asking the streamer to bite their thighs. They have various sexy times, with Hex seemingly into it.

If Hex is more or less chilled out, they will freak out when the streamer ends it stating that they will kill Hex. This turns out to be a lie, as the streamer actually keeps them alive as they like Hex. They reveal that their name is Victor. The last scene has Victor seemingly fighting his conscious as a mysterious person talks about how this will not last, how they are the same as the others, before he wakes up and coddles Hex to sleep.

If Hex screams, they will again freak out when the streamer states that he will kill them, though they reassure them that he will not. He also pretty much gets shot at, with the mysterious person, whose name is Simon, essentially recruiting Hex afterwards for something.

So far, it is a pretty interesting premise seeing Hex actually be into more of the snuff streaming things, considering how into Victor's voice they seem to be. I do like the kind of concepts where the MC is pretty messed up at least to this degree. We don't really get to know that much about Simon or Victor though. We know that Victor has been stalking Hex for a bit, considering I don't think it was sleep paralysis that was groping and watching them. And they seemingly know where Hex lives and even seems to know their name and probably gave them the chocolate while they were at the mall. Still, again, other than knowing that Victor is a snuff streamer, has no problems with killing people and likes Hex, we really know very little to nothing about him. Same with the Simon person who apparently hires us. I think it would be a cool twist that in the end Hex ends up being a snuff streamer as well, following in the twisted footsteps of Victor. The art style mostly consists of blacks and whites which is always a fun thing to see in terms of stylization. I'm not really into that kind of dark smut as much as other people (I'm more on the side of wanting to torture someone, but I know most people don't tend ot share that sentiment in the yandere community, so that's alright), but I think it can be appealing to those who are interested in that.

Overall, a short but dark story. Considering this is likely a demo, I am really hoping that they will flesh out more of the story for Victor and Simon since the start of it does seem to leave a lot of interesting pathways that might be nice to follow.

But they can be raised by people, and develop normally?? I'm assuming they're born blind tho?? Genuinely, I am curious, not trying to sound accusatory :')

Ahhh my friend, it is safe to say at this point that I have dedicated nearly two years of my life to exploring this question lol. Apologies in advance. You've activated my trap card special interest.

Sarel comes from my fanfic "Halfway to the Sky", in which a mage kidnaps a Falmer child and raises him as an experiment to see if he can be taught to live as a "civilized" person. The short answer to that initial question is: yes, Sarel is just a normal elf child, though still blind.

As to the other part of your question, (if Sarel had been raised among the Falmer, would he become "animalistic"?), I'm going to answer charitably by pointing out that we are dealing with Fictional Races of People, in which our interpretations of these races are going to vary, and that's okay. First off, my interpretation is not "the correct" one. So any answer I give is just my personal take. Second, the way we are told to play the game (by the mechanics of the game) also informs our perception of these races. And lastly, there is no one-to-one allegory at play here in terms of "The Falmer represent [x] race in our world." I just wanna get that out of the way.

So, all that being said, the question always comes back to "what does it mean to be civilized"?

In the game, we are told that the Falmer are hostile and violent, so we must kill them, and that they are 'devolved', even though evolution cannot move backwards. So, to correct that second misunderstanding, the Falmer are actually evolved to better suit their current living environment, and as to the first, we (the player) are intruding on their settlements. I can only imagine anyone with a sense of self-preservation would react with some amount of hostility to the loud, shouty person carrying weapons.

To continue to use game-logic, we are shown that the Falmer construct buildings, create weapons and armor, craft potions, lay traps, enchant objects, and use magic. Already, these are things that animals, by definition, cannot do. To be a magic user, a character must have a relatively high Intelligence stat, (we see this in the older games more than in Skyrim). In order to construct settlements, people must also have the ability to work in groups and communicate. We never hear the Falmer speak to each other in-game, but the implication that they have language and a social structure is right there in what we're shown.

So, in this long-winded, roundabout answer to your original question: I do not think that the Falmer are animalistic at all. I think they are culturally different, but made of the same stuff as Joe Thalmor over there. They have a different way of living in the world, and they adapted to their environment as best they could. This does not mean that they are perfect or better. But I think that referring to them as animalistic plays into what the game tells you to think, all while giving you a lot of evidence to the contrary. They're very much a complex, functioning society of people. We just never see their side of the story.

•His bad boy persona has an on and off switch that changes quickly around you, one moment he is being the smoothest guy ever and the next, once you are blushing and spluttering with your face on your hands from all his lines and attention his switch turns off and he is swooning and cooing at you happily, stimming all around as he observes your reaction with the happiest of expressions.

•You are so curious about what he does, from the most simple of things to his most consuming projects and he relishes the attention, give him more attention, give him all of your attention, he won’t show it but he craves it from you.

an analysis : Xiao Zhan + The Moon & Sixpence 🌖

as usual with xzs videos like the one just released, you can make an entire thesis into the possible meanings of every chapter and frame. add it’s relation to xz and if you’re a pro, go deep into the techniques they used in shooting and editing. this one tho is centered around the theme of “the moon and sixpence” which is a book xz recommended before. I saw a few articles linking this to the elements on the vlog and so i looked into it.

i have lightly talked about some elements from the vlog yesterday but focused more on the quotes that appeared and the music chosen.

it’s been years since he mentioned this book and he didn’t even say that it’s his all-time-favorite. for example, the van gogh elements, we expect that already to be a recurring theme. as well as the moon, but this one has another connection to it. i am honestly curious where his headspace is at, and why, in this specific point in time he felt so close to the message of that book or some parts of it.

let me start with a synopsis and the book is available on googlebooks if you wanna try it out like i did. 🔖

with the plot alone, you can get a sense of why he would like it. at the time he read it, he was not yet the superstar xiao zhan that we know now. and this is why i guess he related to it more now. especially the sacrifices he has to make for the path he has chosen. this was evident in his GQ cover story interview where he compares himself to his other friends and how they have normal lives. the books is written in the first person POV of narrator who is looking into the stockbroker turned artist Charles Strickland. you get to see the thoughts of the narrator and how he views the main character of his story. the way i see it, the narrator is “Xiao Zhan the person” and how he sees “Xiao Zhan the public personality”. this concept of two sides to him was opened up in his esquire cover story and i can’t help but think it relates to this story.

i will be heavily quoting passages from the book that attracted me and i personally thought relates to xz. this is my personal interpretation only.

The greatness of Charles Strickland was authentic. It may be that you do not like his art, but at all events you can hardly refuse it the tribute of your interest. He disturbs and arrests.

the story starts of with this line and well isn’t this one way to describe xiao zhan? he has always been described as authentic and the “real deal” as far as idols and actors go. not many people are expected to like him or be part of his fan club and chase him — however, one thing is clear: he disturbs and arrests. his popularity is something that is unheard of and many artist and companies try to replicate. he is a disturbance to the norm in c-ent and why he is a constant target. it’s his biggest asset and liability. something like MFW and stepping out of his home is also expected to attract all kinds of attention. He is aware of that.

“His faults are accepted as the necessary complement to his merits. It is still possible to discuss his place in art, and the adulation of his admirers is perhaps no less capricious than the disparagement of his detractors; but one thing can never be doubtful, and that is that he had genius. To my mind the most interesting thing in art is the personality of the artist; and if that is singular, I am willing to excuse a thousand faults.”

this is in the POV of the narrator, describing the artist he is writing a book about, Charles Strickland. the message of this quote is similar to the one i mentioned above. xz is not perfect and people, specifically his fans should accept that. it’s what makes him more real. through his wins and losses, he is still xiao zhan.

“It is a salutary discipline to consider the vast number of books that are written, the fair hopes with which their authors see them published, and the fate which awaits them. What chance is there that any book will make its way among that multitude? And the successful books are but the successes of a season. this next passage makes me think of the projects he has done and what it must feel like for him. there are a lot of dramas/movies that come out every year and what we repeatedly hear from xz is that he only wishes to bring good works. something people will enjoy and appreciate— never mind the popularity that comes with it. he just finished filming a big project LOCH which i can only imagine is so stressful to him. and now is working on another historical drama.

he is someone who immerses himself in the character and once it’s done, it must be a huge weight off his shoulder. like what is said — seek reward in the pleasure of work and in release from the burden of his thoughts.

“Then, what in God’s name have you left her for?’

‘I want to paint.’

I looked at him for quite a long time. I did not understand. I thought he was mad. It must be remembered that I was very young, and I looked upon him as a middle-aged man. I forgot everything but my own amazement.

‘But you’re forty.’

‘That’s what made me think it was high time to begin.’

i think this one is pretty self explanatory, how he started in the entertainment circle a little bit later in his life. compared to his peers. but the answer was simple to him as it was with Strickland, in his case, “i want to sing.”

‘I tell you I’ve got to paint. I can’t help myself. When a man falls into the water it doesn’t matter how he swims, well or badly: he’s got to get out or else he’ll drown.”

this message seems similar to the one quoted on the vlog about about the rivers and small streams. in this one, it emphasizes how one should not be afraid to take the small step of “swimming badly” in hopes that someday they will wade the waters more efficiently.

“But here was a man who sincerely did not mind what people thought of him, and so convention had no hold on him; he was like a wrestler whose body is oiled; you could not get a grip on him”

If there was something in this book the describes XZ so perfectly — it is this one. I think he is not devoid of over thinking about what people say or being a people pleaser. but in recent times, i am seeing a change in him and how he is more calm. a freedom in the way he speaks, the truths he is no longer holding back. he is not afraid to be different anymore.

which led to that GUCCI outfit. LOL! 🤣🤣🤣

so true. a great majority wouldn’t and couldn’t do what he does. just looking at the chapters in the vlog, from going to a distant place and dealing with the MGW chaos. after that, being only afforded a small time to decompress and sit. to enjoy the sunset. that’s what his life is.

“I don’t pretend to be a great painter’, he said. ‘I’m not a Michael Angelo, no, but I have something. I sell. I bring romance into the homes of all sorts of people. Do you know, they buy my pictures not only in Holland, but in Norway and Sweden and Denmark? It’s mostly merchants who buy them, and rich tradesmen. You can’t imagine what the winters are like in those countries, so long and dark and cold. They like to think that Italy is like my pictures. That’s what they expect. That’s what I expected Italy to be before I came here.”

i would guess this is how he sees his work. he never claimed to be the best, you can see that with how he always mentions wanting to be better. he wants to give the people a positive view of life. which i can clearly see from the vlogs even, makes you wanna go where he visited.

“A man’s work reveals him. In social intercourse he gives you the surface that he wishes the world to accept, and you can only gain a true knowledge of him by inferences from little actions, of which he is unconscious, and from fleeting expressions, which cross his face unknown to him. Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course they actually become the person they seem.”

another one that i think describes xz. his little actions that we see reveal his true self —- the gentle, funny and dorky xiao zhan which is a contrast to the character he sometimes has to portray. it’s when we talk about his duality, the way he was posing and “game face on” for GUCCI but when he did the interview you can see the dorky xiao zhan 😂

there are times that xiao zhan merges some of the qualities of his celebrity side and i think it’s perfectly person. it is a huge part of his life, and the way i see it, his experiences only make him a better person.

“I have an idea that some men are born out of their due place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they have always a nostalgia for a home they know not. They are strangers in their birthplace, and the leafy lanes they have known from childhood or the populous streets in which they have played, remain but a place of passage.

They may spend their whole lives aliens among their kindred and remain aloof among the only scenes they have ever known.

Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends men far and wide in the search for something permanent, to which they may attach themselves. Perhaps some deep-rooted atavism urges the wanderer back to lands which his ancestors left in the dim beginnings of history.

Here is the home he sought, and he will settle amid scenes that he has never seen before, among men he has never known, as though they were familiar to him from his birth.

read that again. it’s a lovely way to put into words what i imagine is something that not only xz goes through. we know what kind of environment and country he lives in, i’m not trying to get political but you get the point. being a celebrity or public personality like him is vastly different from how it is with the rest of the world. i have always admired how he handles it all with grace, how he he willingly accepts the responsibility and burden of being who he is. and that’s why i was also surprised by his answer when asked about a parallel world and he answers about a superpower where he can make it possible to have no disputes in the world. being in that place, with lots of people around, from different parts of the world probably made him think more about this topic. aside from eating pizza and being his usual beautiful self, he was thinking about some serious issues too.

chapter 1 was about going to a distant place but not really, there was something in that place and experience that feels like a home he longs for.

alternate explanation, this can also mean him living his life as a graphic designer, and then spreading his wings into a different industry — being the place he has sought. but considering the time this was released and where he is now at life, i’m thinking it’s more of the former.

so busy yearning for the moon that he never saw the sixpence at his feet. 🪙

this imagery at the end of the vlog + the coin he holds + the quote fits so well together. the way i see it, XZ is doing both. he appreciates the moon, he looks up to it but he doesn’t miss to see and hold the sixpence. it’s why he is holding on to it, in some, it was even rolling on it’s own towards him. and it’s not just the proverbial sixpence. he is seeing and appreciating his surroundings —- the egg he ate, laundry, bike etc.

as a fan, this is actually comforting to me. the book itself is not the happiest, which makes sense cause xz prefers melodramatic to downright tragic stories. but it shows a realistic view of what some goes through to pursue their dreams. it’s not as glamorous as what we see on tv or the internet. but the end of the vlog, shows that xz is keeping a balance. he is not just busy looking up at the moon— he is also living his life.

I first knew about the connection of the vlog to the book via 辉夜姬不叽 and i got hooked into writing something about it and reading the source material. i also liked @resonancewitness interpretation of the vlog, particularly the lines in starry starry night.

So I’ve finally got some of my thoughts on the new season in order and letting my self sit on it for a while

Dragons rising season 2 spoilers!!!!!

So first off holy shit this season has managed to completely wipe out any fears I had for season two. I’m a generally anxious person and am pretty naturally pessimistic about most things and was pretty anxious about season 2 because from the stuff shown in trailers and promotional vids it looked like a “Lloyd chosen one” plot line and I have a history of hating that kinda thing because it’s been beaten to death in ninjago at this point. While a bit of that was there I found it was done quite tastefully and didn’t overwhelm everything else story wise.

I felt that the pacing of the first 6-7ish episodes was a bit all over the place. Having the training arc and the Cole-Zane plot lines happen in the same episode with the pov switching back in forth felt a little bit off to me.

Sora and arins character arcs are shaping up to be pretty good. Soras more confident in her self than season one and she’s trying to help Arin but I feel like the whole using her elemental power to help Arin will backfire into her face. Arin’s insecurity and the whole how can I be useful if I don’t have an element I fell is being handled way better than the dumb kai arc in season 11(dw I will get to that when I get to kai) and it’s about on par with the Lloyd powerless plot from hunted. I am really excited to see what they do next and if Arin will be really mad at sora or not cuz like he’s super nice and stuff and I fell like he would be sad instead of mad.

Nya didn’t really have a lot going on personally except the stuff with Jay which I’m iffy on because so much of Nyas character in older seasons revolved around Jay and I just hope they don’t go back to that and let her character breath a bit.

In the topic of Jay I really really REALLY hope he isn’t evil. That the idea because it’s really out of character and they are already pushing my buttons with the lost memory crap because that’s something that I’ve rarely seen done well at all and it makes me very nervous and I just don’t like it. I do like that Jay just seems to be a guy who hates his job tho that’s fun.

I think the writers are just having fun with Zane and I think that’s cool. I do wanna punch the administration guy who said Zane isn’t a person because he is and he’s a bean and I will not allow this nobody to slander him.

It was nice to see more of Cole this season. I swear him and geo are so cute. The hand holding and the fact that they basically adopted two kids together is amazing and I am fully on board for this ship.

The villans were really interesting. I hope they keep up the quality with them because the mystery of ras’ master and wtf happened with jordana is really exciting. Cinder was intresting and as someone who has no interest in men what so ever I am kinda baffled at why so many people want this man but hey you do you. I do wonder what happened to ash tho. The member of the forbidden five looks interesting too and part of me is hoping that the leaked “evil jay” minifig is actually this guy just powered up cuz the color palette is similar enough and I just don’t want an evil jay.

Wyldfyre is amazing her whole leg being broken then sneaking on the ship to the exasperation of kai (like he would totally have pulled something like this a few seasons ago the hypocrite <3) and the others was so good. I am curious about her talk with egalt she mentioned one of her family members getting the wasting sickness but it can’t be heat wave cuz he seems fine so maybe she had more than one dragon guardian??? I do hope that Kai’s portal abduction does affected going into part 2 and that she bonds with nya and the others over it.

Egalt and rontu were very interesting to me and I’m glad they didn’t go the route of them being the actual creators of spinjitzu and kept the lore consistent I was slightly worried about that. Hope they come back in part 2 too.

Bonzle was a big surprise for me. I likes her personality in season 1 but I didn’t expect her to be so important. She’s really sweet and the scene with wu was great too.

And finally last but definitely not least, the best character in this entire show and my favorite comfort character to beat the shit out of

KAI

IT WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. I LITERALLY HAVE NOT BEEN THIS HAPPY WITH AN EPISODE SINCE SEASON 4 EPISODE 7 THE FORGOTTEN ELEMENT (iykyk) I was literately kicking my feet like a little girl and crying and screaming my head off to the point I woke up other family members. Him unlocking the rising dragon technique by having his sister help and being in harmony with his family is so fucking sweet and I cried like a little bitch it was so good. I am also so happy that they used his old hair and didn’t just slap a smaller version of his current hair onto him (tho I kinda wish they had used the fucked up custom hair that was in the older episodes but I doubt that model is even in their hands so whatever(side side note I love the fucked up hair so much it’s so stupid I love it and will forever miss it)) him being such a dad to wyld fire was so sweet and then using the rising dragon technique after he saw his family in danger was just perfect. I do kinda wish there was more of a dramatic reaction to him getting yeeted by ras into the portal (kinda like any of the other ninja “deaths/major injuries”) but im fine with what we got. Except I kinda hate that only nya has an outward reaction in the aftermath. No lloyd reaction no Cole reaction and nothing from Zane and it makes me mad because every other time a ninja had their moment there was a whole team reaction. But I’m feeling like that’s to nitpicky and there’s still ten more episodes to fix that so fingers crossed. But kai also encouraging bonzle to close the portal even if he’s trapped inside is such a kai thing and hit me like a truck. Also him calling bonzle kid dispite her being much much older than him is funny and sweet cuz Kai’s big brother/father figure side is coming through and it’s so sweet. And the ninja never quit line is so great I was sobbing even more after that. (Tho I don’t know why he said he got it from Lloyd when it would have made more sense to have it be from master wu cuz that’s where he learned it but eh whatever).

While im really happy about kai finally getting some well deserved angst im also very anxious about it too. This could be the perfect opportunity for the writers to just conveniently forget about him for a while and idk if i could sit through that. Kai is a huge part of why I watch ninjago and he’s always been handed the shortest stick character development wise and technically he never got his own focus season either (and no i dont count the pilots because that focused mainly on all the ninja and was only two episodes, i also don’t count season four because it was more a group season, and season 11 doesn’t count because he got a half baked b plot that sucked) I’m very worried that I will loose enjoyment in the show because I dropped the show out of disappointment after season 11 because A LOT of premonitional material made it seem like a kai season and I got my hopes up and was let down so much. I’m very cautious when getting excited about things involving kai in particular because of that and I’m just hoping the writers don’t fuck it up.

Ok that’s enough negativity for once. I’m so excited for more and am foaming at the mouth for more!
