Hey, got any thoughts about Seth?

Oh, do I ever!!

Seth is an incredibly fascinating, dominant, and looming presence in the Magic Book of Spells with the potential to be one of the most intriguing characters in the entirely of SVTFOE… that was tragically underutilized, slapped in the face, and is who I believe to be the source of the biggest missed potential in the entirety of canon.

But I do not trust the writers at all to have handled him in the show proper.

The Septarians are notoriously treated like absolute dirt. Any and all of the Septarians we meet have either been humiliated, turned into a joke, villainized beyond any humanity, and overall treated awfully. They’re portrayed as this unfeeling, violent, monster species with no (biological? cultural?) ability to forgive or forget the countless atrocities the Mewmans committed against innocent people. GEEZ, It’s not like the Septarians have enhanced longevity and experience time differently than almost EVERY OTHER SPECIES ON MEWNI with most of them FIRST HAND experiencing the atrocities other species of monsters and ESPECIALLY Mewmans see as “bygone eras of the past!!”

And even with the book alone, Seth is also lumped into this stereotype, and may be one of the worst offenders. Globgor can’t stand him and has intense bias against him (I know he talked about “Septarians” but my god we all know he means Seth to some degree. Seth is very clearly a prominent figure if not the leader of the Septarians and he’s pictured/alluded to twice in Eclipsa’s chapter), bitch Crescenta smeared his name into the DIRT in a rigged election campaign and destroyed his reputation, and Comet refused to take him seriously whatsoever (but then again it’s Comet so what are we really expecting??). He was even on the Magic High Commission’s radar, labeled as an “extremist” (which just about anything is labeled “extreme” in the MHC’s eyes so they’re not reliable narrators). He’s spat upon and repeatedly villainized. He gets no breaks or even a glimpse of humanity and everyone in the fandom after the book came out was hyping him up as this huge villain.

So, yeah, I don’t think the show would have bothered to give him any humanity or depth if he was introduced in the show proper and would have made egregiously worse the show’s already bad problem of making monsters, the historically marginalized and colonized group of people, the bad guys. (Seriously, Meteora wasn’t a “real” threat until she was revealed to be half monster. That makes me frustrated.)

I love Seth. I think he would’ve had amazing potential if put in the right hands. There’s so much to do with him and I’m mostly glad he’s been left alone so fans can interpret him in any way they want.

Now… what are my opinions and headcanons about him? What’s the story I’ve concocted?

Thankfully Seth is a character I can talk about without worrying about AU spoilers… mostly (thank god).

In my mind, Seth is someone who actually didn’t see the Great Monster Massacre first hand, hatching about 200 years afterwards (due to my timeline and how I’ve designed Septarian aging). But that doesn’t mean whatsoever that he hasn’t seen the atrocities of Mewmans. In fact, he’s been put in several situations where— while not Moe levels of genocide— he has seen the cruelest and most inhumane levels of Mewman aggression against monsters. He’s a victim of it first hand and spent 80+ years through torture after being ripped away from his homeland before finally uprising against it with his sister (oh yeah he has a sister in my AU)

He is someone who wholeheartedly earned the respect and adoration of his people. He was a leader that they wanted, not because of blood or any ties to the throne he had. (He’s by blood the Prince of Septarsis, but by the time he came back to Septarsis not many people remembered him since he had changed so much). He completely changed the governmental system and put Septarsis into its golden age.

Now this is what may get me in trouble, but stick with me… I don’t think the reputation he’s acquired is completely unfounded. YES the Mewmans and MHC are incredibly biased and we can’t take what they say at face value, but some stereotypes have some truth to them. It’s way overexaggerated, but Seth is someone who I see as extremely trigger happy in his youth.

While a great leader and delegate, he can be incredibly rash and actively seeks violence against Mewmankind. Never Solaria or Moe levels of genocide… but if Mewmans happened to disappear one day he’d be over the moon. This makes him a fun foil for Toffee’s mother in my AU, Mylanie, who’s someone who strives to end the conflict and seek lasting peace.

In the early days he was active in battle and loved fighting against his adversaries. In fact, I find the idea of Seth being the one to kill Solaria— specifically beheading her with his own hands— fascinating and I LOVE IT. He’s not afraid to get messy when protecting monsters or his homeland, and the stories about his violence is NOT unfounded. If anyone is perpetuating ideas about Septarian stereotypes, it’s our buddy Seth.

But here’s the important distinction, he is not going out of his way hurting innocent people. He’s not this bloodthirsty monster who’s trying to commit genocide, he’s not Solaria, he’s just someone who sees violence as the answer and thinks peace is a waste of time.

It wasn’t until the election that his priorities changed and he actually calmed down.

The smear campaign was a huge blow. It really got him to think and consider how his actions were affecting monsters as a whole but especially his own people. He knows how much influence he has over how his people are perceived… and that’s when he pulled back. He was still active, don’t get me wrong, and got along diplomatically with the few surviving monster civilizations, but he took a lot less of a role than he used to. He started thinking critically and cleverly instead of resorting to violence first and foremost. Peace with Mewmans was still firmly off the table though and is still that way to this day.

When Comet sent the invitation, he genuinely planned to ignore it. He had no intention of going to the banquet— as last time he played along with Mewman rules he got screwed— but did allow Toffee to be a representative after Toffee offered to go in his place.

Under one condition: No harm was to come to the Queen

And we see how that went…

I’d gladly go into his relationship/dynamic with Toffee but this post is long enough :). Maybe in another post!!

His “death” was a stunt to fully get him out of any Mewman drama, and he was especially glad he perpetuated that lie because of how pissed he was at Toffee after Comet’s death. He’s alive and well and still in charge of Septarsis, he’s just out of the public eye because everyone thinks he’s dead (except close allies).

Overall I see him as someone who was essentially what his reputation said he was until he got a huge ego blow and actually matured enough to stop being so trigger happy. He was always a great leader over Septarsis and did whatever it took to protect his people, but he had some growing up to do as well.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. My AU goes into him a lot deeper and really fleshes him out. He’s a four dimensional character with layers and depth to him. While he seems like a Mewman hating “radical” on the surface, he’s humanized and he has layers and reasonings for his beliefs and actions.

I just love Seth. A lot. He’s so silly. He’s so fascinating and I love that everyone has a different perspective of him.

Also he is Rasticore’s dad you can’t change my mind !!

The negotiations with Polly Gray had gone well.

For letting them live and move to Boston with Ada or Australia with Polly, all she had to do was hand over Tommy Shelby. They’d give up their life of crime and never bother again.

Tommy had damned them all, it was only right that he gives up his life for them. It wasn’t like he lived anymore, he merely existed.

One man in exchange for many.

Well, two actually.

Polly didn’t know about Arthur, but Edward Ross needed to be avenged. It was the least they could do for Mrs. Ross and the other mothers of the other boys he’s maimed and killed in the boxing ring.

But that wouldn’t be traced back to them, after all, was it Changretta’s fault that Mrs. Ross had bought a gun for the occasion? Was it her fault that Arthur killed her Edward?

“I’ve seen you before, haven’t I?” Ada Thorne asks as they meet each other for a third time in the library.

“Yes, I was one of your investors, and a guest at a charity gala my family invited you to. Don’t worry, your company will be in good hands, we Rileys got a Midas Touch when it comes to business.” Eva kept her back to her and perused the shelf some more.

Shelby had spies everywhere, Eva had rooted most of them out and now there were several here watching them. Good, she thinks as she sows seeds of suspicion between Tommy and his only sister.

Especially after it’s just them and Finn left.

“I’d ask why you are doing this to us, but I already know the answer.” The woman took the book next to hers and wisely didn’t ask for what she already knew. “What do you gain from this?”

“Justice for my husband’s father and brother, a kingdom ripe for the taking.” Eva answered honestly, no need to lie about it now. It was all going to end soon, very soon.

February 3, or near that date.

Tommy would be dead, every Shelby scattered to the wind and the Changrettas building an empire from Tommy Shelby’s ashes.

All because the man didn’t verify if the shooter had even been Italian.

“The Spiniettas fear you, don’t they?” Ada asks something even her brother and aunt didn’t seem to piece together. “They know you are the reason Luca is on a whole other level, and they know he isn’t satisfied with following orders anymore. So the two of you took your chance to leave and carve out your own place here.”

“Even your brother didn’t put two and two together, Mrs. Thorne, color me impressed.” The witch comments and yet refused to turn around. “My husband will stop once Tommy is dead. As long as you keep away from this you and your son and your little brother will live. You can even keep your share of the company.”

“I won’t betray him, if that’s what you’re asking.” The communist turned businesswoman caught her drift very well. No wonder the legal part of Shelby Company was doing so well.

But Tommy won’t trust her word either, not when Polly is betraying him and Arthur dying in an hour.

“Not asking you to, just asking you to focus on other things.” Eva smiled and gestured to Benjamin Younger waiting to meet with her just on the other side of the aisle. “You could be happy again, Ada, happy with your son and perhaps a daughter. All you have to do is step aside.”

Ada doesn’t speak, but Eva hears her agree to it anyways.

“I didn’t think the woman had it in her.” Matteo laughs in surprise when the decoys deliver the news.

It had not been planned by this, but Luca knew better than to deny a mother long overdue justice.

Arthur Shelby had been dead the moment he came into her parlor and sat there while the boy in the photograph was cold in the ground. Mrs. Ross had been told how he hurt his wife, how her sweet Edward wasn’t his last victim and given the push needed to buy herself a gun.

Only Thomas was left and soon enough he’d be joining his brothers in hell.

“No one knows rage like a mother,” Luca said taking a new matchstick into his mouth. He’d been warned of this chance in plans, of the wagon in his path and how this helped seal the deal with Polly.

A nephew is not a son, the witch had said as she kissed him goodbye this morning. You will have your enemies at your feet before the first flowers even bloom, my love.

“What makes you think your old whore will keep her word, Luca?” his right hand asked knowing Arthur was part of Polly Gray’s deal.

“She won’t want me to kill her little boy. I didn’t run out of bullets by accident, you know.” The capo couldn’t wait for Polly to know just who she was dancing with.

She’d thought herself safe believing they didn’t know she was spying for her nephew, but after today, she’ll know better.

Polly Gray overestimates herself, he knows that very well. After all, she’d thought he’d never find out about her dalliances with Gray while he was in America. Luca had to teach her a lesson, teach him a lesson too.

Perhaps after this is over Luca will tell her how he killed her husband and had her children taken away for cheating on him all those years ago.

She could hold a grudge, just not as good as he did.

“Salvatore, take us to London. I have a meeting with Sabini.” Luca ordered as he made plans to take over London even if little Aurora Sabini lives long enough to marry his son.

rating as many hw anime projects as i could find bc i have no life

spoilers? spoilers~~~

the nacchan movie

it was o k. it had a pretty standard and rather unremarkable storyline tbh. but that nacchan confession montage was pretty funny. though i wish we could’ve seen more of mochiaka. easy 6/10.

the shower/bath montage was very much unnecessary though.

the hina movie

as a standalone movie by itself, 4/10. confusing characters (arisa), messy and rushed plot (the middle school flashback sequence was way too long for a 1h movie), and the main couple of the movie (koyuhina) barely interacted. heck, hina spent the majority of the movie running away from yukki. rip tbh :(

as part of the series as a whole, 2/10.

reading the heart no shuchou novel should be a pre-requisite to watching the movie, as it explains why arisa was so darned weird during her interactions with yukki. and speaking of arisa, they got their portrayal of karen completely wrong (rip). granted, otome domoyo. came out after the movie, but still—

though, while we’re on the topic of ✨continuity✨, the fact that there were lxl promos in the burger joint despite lxl having not even debuted yet at that point in the timeline is just. very questionable in hindsight.

also!!! koyuhina interactions where??? gardening club trio w h e r e ??? for a movie with koyuhina focus, this movie was remarkably not about koyuhina.

seriously, just read the ima suki ni naru. prologue manga instead. it’s p much the same story, but it flows much better (like, the setoguchi siblings’ terekakushi shishunki scene takes place at the end of the manga post-rejection instead of how it has occurred right smack in the middle of the movie with no explanation). and there’s no continuity-breaking burger joint scene either s o there—

the midosena short

it was kinda cute, but it also isn’t anything you haven’t already seen in the midosena mvs. 7/10.

the harucouple anime

it’s remarkable how unremarkable it was. the best part of the anime was tokyo winter session tbh, and that was the ending theme.

miou’s character kinda sucked in the anime ngl, with her blaming herself for chiaki’s death, distancing herself from haruki, only to slap him for wanting to give up on his dream following his existential crisis that had resulted from said distancing.

also, needs more mochiaka.

anime-haruki deserves better. 3/10.

the lxl mvm

fruity, while both remaining (kinda) canon-compliant and establishing aizo as the male protagonist of gen 3. plus, sena was really cute in the romeo mv scenes, so she gets points of her own too.

bond girl yujiro (as seen in the pic above) was pretty funny though ngl. 8/10.

the lxl movie

fruity, but canon-breaking, as it completely disregards both the romeo mvm and the romeo novel. plus, the timeline clearly wouldn’t have worked out??? i mean c’mon. you’re telling me that these two complete nobodies managed to get popular enough to fill a live arena over the span of less than half a year just from a pocky collab? if you told me it took them over a year to get that far, sure, but.. they haven’t even filmed their romeo mv yet in the movie… so?? i???? lol???

also, this only further confirmed aizo as the protag (rip yujiro; boy wanted to stand onstage to be seen for himself and his talents, only to be completely outshadowed by his own partner who dances like a 🪳). the anime had dai moments though, so that alone brings the total score up to 6/10. thanks dai. ily <3

the [redacted] anime

i think i’ve made my stance on the [redacted] anime very clear in my way too many posts. in comparison to the other anime projects though? 1/10.

at least the other anime projects kept their characters (or, at least, most of their characters *cough* harucouple anime miou *cough*) relatively close to their original counterparts, instead of completely butchering each and every single one of them. like, seriously, no one was spared. not the main leads (hiyori and lxl), not the side characters (gen 2), and even tamura, uchida, and ft4 were nerfed smh.

I really need to offer my thanks to this entire fandom for helping me to grasp something I never really got before (though I still occasionally struggle with getting it now).

When I first heard about the finale and what happened within, I accepted it.  For one thing, I’d expected no different.  Long before I’d even heard about the events of the finale, I’d been unfortunately certain that Sam would get his normal life and Dean would die.  My suspicions — or, perhaps, my fears — were only strengthened during the episode where Sam takes on the first trial, when Dean outright says “I'm gonna die with a gun in my hand. 'Cause that's what I have waiting for me – that's all I have waiting for me. I want you to get out. I want you to have a life – become a man of Letters, whatever. You, with a wife and kids and – and – and grandkids, living till you're fat and bald and chugging Viagra – that is my perfect ending, and it's the only one that I'm gonna get.”  By then, if I’m honest, I hadn’t thought a different ending would happen any more than Dean seemed to.

Additionally, the finale had already happened.  There was no changing it — no point in raging against something that couldn’t be altered, or mourning something that could never have been — and so that was that.  I started watching the show after filming was done — within the last year — so I had no reason to build up theories or hopes; I knew a great many spoilers when I started, and more trickled in as I went.  I made my peace with it because I might as well be content with what I got instead of driving myself mad with what could have been.

But I’ve come to realize — in large part thanks to y’all — that something being expected doesn’t make it good (if that makes sense).  Dean expected the ending he got because he didn’t see a way out of hunting.  Because he couldn’t see a way to a normal life.  Because he couldn’t envision a happy ending that he’d be able to obtain (much less deserve).  He says that’s his perfect ending — and I believe that he views it as such — but only because anything else is, he judges, impossible.  He sees himself dying on a hunt and Sam getting a normal life because he’s the grunt and Sam’s the one to be protected at all costs.  But that doesn’t mean it’s the best ending — the one that would make him happiest — as much as it means that it’s the best he can foresee.

There’s no way that this is the best ending for the Dean Winchester we’ve seen: the one we’ve followed for fifteen seasons, the one who’s been mother and father and brother to Sam and does everything for family, the one who’s one of the preeminent hunters… well, ever.  There’s no way that his best ending would completely wipe out a character — at least a best friend and brother, though quite probably more, in my opinion — from anything but a single line mentioned in passing (Cas).  There’s no way that his best ending would be one that perpetuates the idea that Sam deserves normalcy and happiness, while his brother is relegated to death-by-nail.  There’s no way that his best ending would leave him confined to the Heaven we saw, one too empty for a man as family-oriented as Dean (and yes, I do recognize that COVID seems to be the reason for its emptiness, but, regardless, it is the ending we got, so the point stands); additionally, it’s very notable that he finds out Mary and John aren’t far away, and his immediate response is to get into his car and drive far in the other direction.  

We make jokes about Dean collecting children and “nesting” in the bunker (and they’re accurate and, often, hilarious), but the fact remains that Dean wanted a normal life.  That he’d adopted a dog.  That he had a job application on his desk.  That he’s been shown throughout the show to have this innate desire for something that was ripped away from him with an ill-placed piece of rebar.

And, thanks to the people on this site, I’ve come to realize that it’s okay to be pissed as hell about this.  That I don’t have to settle for what happened simply because it’s the way things shook out.  That the ending being expected or foreshadowed doesn’t make it good; it just makes it expected and foreshadowed.  I’ll admit that I cried the first time I saw some of the scenes of the finale, and I did so because a character I loved had died; now, I’m filled less with sadness at the death itself and more at the futility of it all.  At the way he deserved better than what he got.  At the way we deserved better than what we got.

Anyway, I’m sorry for the very me-centric post — I try to avoid those because it feels… idk, selfish?  Arrogant?  I’m not even sure anyone else feels the same, or if this is completely meaningless to anyone who might happen to read this. — but I’ve only recently come to this realization, so this is my attempt to sort through my thoughts.  It’s also an attempt at expressing gratitude, so… thank you.

The Fallout Who Regenerated mod adds so much more to the story of Fallout 4 than I first thought.

For context, I haven’t played much of the game myself. I dabbled in it a bit a few years ago, didn’t progress all that much, but I know the story because of playthrough and general curiosity. But recently I’ve had major Doctor Who brainrot again, and only just found out about Fallout Who Regenerated. I thought “A mod for a game I already have where you can repair and fly your own TARDIS? Sign me the fuck up!”

Yes, flying the TARDIS is cool. The new Doctor Who themed tracks added are just *chef's kiss.* Go look them up on youtube.

But holy shit.

The premise of this game is already so angsty. But here’s a bit of how I imagine my character’s experience from her pov went when I started a new game with the mod installed. Beware: this part is long and will contain spoilers for both Fallout 4 and Fallout Who Regenerated.

My husband has been murdered, my son kidnapped. I’ve been frozen for who knows how long. I get out of the vault, desperate to see my baby again. Right away, I see Codsworth, still trying to clean a house that’s been abandoned for what he tells me has been two centuries, and he gives me a holodisk from my husband. I don’t listen to it immediately. I'm too desperate to find at least one other person in this desolate hellscape. But I pop it into my Pip-Boy anyway, for later.

I find a stray dog, the first friendly face I've seen in this place that isn't made of metal. I find the Minutemen not long after when I follow the sound of gunshots. I help them out with the raiders, defend against the Deathclaw attracted by the gunfire. The old lady with them says she’s psychic and that my son is alive, and I’ve never been much of a believer in that kind of thing, but I’ll take anything at this point. We all head back to Sanctuary, a not-so-merry band of survivors armed only with pistols and a rifle scraped together out of junk.

We arrive back at Sanctuary and set up camp. It's not much, but the little life returning to my old neighborhood gives me some comfort. I am not alone.

I'm cleaning out the root cellar of another wrecked house, searching for anything that could be scrapped and repurposed, because we still need a way to purify water. And that is when I hear it. Whispers, in a language that I don't understand, but I get such a familiar feeling. Something compels me to look down at the shelf I just searched, really look at it. And there, glinting in the dim lamplight, is a golden pocket watch, and a silver key.

Curiosity overwhelms me. The key looks rather unassuming, but the pocket watch is decorated with many circular designs, overlapping and intertwining in intricate patterns. It feels familiar in my hand, and is surprisingly warm to the touch. The whispers grow louder, and it's almost as if they're inside my mind itself...

The moment I open the pocket watch, it's as if I'd been looking through a pinhole my entire life, but someone has just ripped it wide open. And I remember everything.

I am a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, in the constellation of Kasterborous. I came to this planet to hide, hide so well that I would forget my true identity. It takes a few moments to recover from the sheer flood of memories and information, but when I am, it's like I've been reborn. And the first thing I must do is find my TARDIS.

It's not hard to hook up the TARDIS key to my Pip-Boy so I can create a homing signal to its location. Anticipation clogs my throat, my hearts beat faster as the signal gets stronger. I rush past the other settlers, ignoring their worry and questions. And I see it. I see it.

The Chameleon Circuit is completely busted, judging by the exterior, which has reverted to the generic silver cylinder shape. But when I open the door for the first time in centuries, I can feel her in my mind. She hums, pleased to see me again after so long. As I check on her systems and assess the damage (and there is quite a lot), I find myself smiling again. In fact, as I step into the TARDIS depths to look for the instruction and repair manuals (I always lose the damned things... an infinite ship with infinite possibilities, but I'd never thought to use any filing cabinets...), I feel almost giddy. I trail my hands along the walls, passing by rooms I haven't visited in years.

Finally, I reach the library. It's much more bare than it used to be - the TARDIS had to clear quite a lot of space to preserve her systems while I was away, mostly due to the damage she sustained upon landing. When I approach the writing desk in the middle of the room, I see that the TARDIS has already taken the liberty of presenting the instruction manual, in holodisk form for my convenience. I smile and thank her for it. She hums jovially in return.

However, when I open my Pip-Boy, there is already a holodisk inside. My stomach sinks when I remember that it is the one that Nate, my human self's husband, intended to give to me. Against my better judgement, I play it. When it is over, Nate's "We love you" and the last of Shaun's gurgles leave me feeling hollow. I feel the vastness of the TARDIS. Vast, but so very, very empty.

Even after I repair my TARDIS, I cannot leave. I will not, not yet. Because even though I am my true self again, that human version of me still grieves so deeply for her murdered husband, and cares so fiercely for the son that she lost. Even though I am not his mother anymore, I still feel the love that she felt for him. I cannot run away from this. I must find Shaun again.

Matilda is reading at the kitchen table one crisp December morning. Miss Honey is making breakfast. Matilda would help, but she started reading before bed last night and could hardly bear to put the book down to go to sleep. Miss Honey understood perfectly well and said she’d be happy to handle breakfast on her own for one morning so Matilda could continue her book.

They both startle a little bit when the telephone rings. Miss Honey puts down the spatula she had been using to scramble their eggs and rushes to answer it. “I’m sorry, dear, would you just mind making sure those don’t burn while I get this?”

Matilda nods and carefully flips the book over so she doesn’t lose her place. She’d never have dared to do that before, but now that she lives with Miss Honey they both dog-ear pages and crinkle spines all the time, and it seems perfectly natural.

“Matilda, love,” Miss Honey says after greeting the other person on the line. Matilda looks up to see her holding her phone against her shoulder to muffle their conversation. “It’s for you.”

Matilda furrows her brow in confusion and heads over to answer it. She doesn’t get many phone calls. “Hello?”

“Hi Matilda!” An eager voice rings out through the speaker.

“Hi Lavender,” Matilda responds with a smile. They haven’t seen each other in a whole week already. It’s been utter agony.

“Have you got plans tonight?” Lavender asks.

“Um… no, I don’t think so,” Matilda replies, which gets a squeal from Lavender. “Why?”

“My parents said I could invite a friend over to celebrate Chanukah with us for the first night, and I just had to pick you! Will Miss Honey let you come over this evening?” A voice says something on Lavender’s end that Matilda can’t make out. “Oh, and my parents say she’s more than welcome too. If she wants.”

“Let me ask, one moment,” Matilda says. She does the same motion her mother did and rests the phone against her shoulder. “Mummy?”

“Yes, lamb?” Miss Honey replies.

“Can we go to Lavender’s house tonight? Her family invited us to go celebrate Hanukkah with them,” Matilda says.

“Both of us?”

“Mmhmm.”

“How nice. Ask Lavender what time, please,” Miss Honey says, still puttering about the kitchen to make breakfast. Matilda picks the phone back up.

“What time should we come?”

Matilda winces as Lavender yells, “Mum! What time?!” The voice speaks again, and Lavender echoes it. “Around 4:30.”

Matilda repeats the message to Miss Honey, who nods. “Would you like to go?”

“Oh, yes,” Matilda says eagerly.

“Then we’ll be there around 4:30,” Miss Honey says with a smile.

“We’ll be there,” Matilda says into the phone. “Thank you for inviting us.”

Lavender squeals happily into the phone. “Brilliant! Okay, see you soon! Bye!”

“Bye,” Matilda echoes with a laugh before she stands on her tiptoes to hang up the phone. “Oh.”

“What’s the matter?” Miss Honey asks. “And come eat.”

“I’ve never celebrated Hanukkah before. I don’t know what to do,” Matilda explains as she sits at the table.

“I haven’t either,” Miss Honey replies. “Lavender’s family are very nice. I’m sure they’ll explain anything you want to know about. And she’s your best friend, you know she’d never judge either of us for not knowing something. Don’t let it get in the way of you having fun with your friend. Tonight’s about having fun and learning something new.”

Matilda nods. Miss Honey has a nice way of putting things into perspective.

“And for now, focus on eating your eggs before they get cold,” she hums. Matilda smiles sheepishly and tucks in.

At 4:30 on the dot, Matilda knocks on Lavender’s door with her mother standing behind her. They’re both in their nicest dresses. Miss Honey did Matilda’s hair in one of her favorite ways, half-up with a ribbon tied around the ponytail that matches her dress.

“Hi Matilda!” Lavender greets eagerly as she opens the door. Matilda wishes she wasn’t holding the gifts so she could hug her friend back.

“Hi Lav,” she chokes in response to her friend as best she can with Lavender’s arms tightly round her neck in a hug.

“Come in! Hi Miss Honey. Thank you for coming.”

“Of course! Thank you for the invitation,” Miss Honey responds. They both follow Lavender into the house and down the hallway to the kitchen.

“Mum, Matilda and Miss Honey are here,” Lavender says.

“Oh, hello! Welcome, welcome. Glad to see you both again,” Lavender’s mother says. Matilda is wrapped in another hug, and Miss Honey in her first of the night. Matilda shyly steps forward and holds out a gift.

“This is for you. Your family, that is. Um… Happy Hanukkah,” she says. Lavender’s mother coos over the beautiful Judaica art they’d found during their panicked shopping trip for a gift earlier that afternoon, and the kosher chocolates they’d found.

“Oh, thank you! Isn’t this beautiful!” she says, wrapping Matilda in a tight hug and beckoning Miss Honey over to join. “And these chocolates are Lavender’s favorite, I’m sure we won’t get a single one before she makes off with the lot!”

“Chocolates?” Lavender asks, materializing suddenly behind her mother like she’s been summoned with that one word. Her mother gently whacks her hand away from lifting the lid off the box.

“After dinner, flower. Look at all this food, don’t spoil your appetite before we eat.”

“One chocolate won’t spoil it!”

“But you won’t eat only one,” her mother says knowingly. Matilda smiles at Miss Honey, having both received and given similar lectures many times over. So it really is a mother type thing. “Go show our guests to the living room, it’s nearly sundown.”

“Fiiiiiine,” Lavender groans with spectacular drama. She perks up rapidly and takes Matilda and Miss Honey’s hands to lead them to the sofa in the living room. “Here. We light the hanukkia right after sundown and do a lot of blessings in Hebrew, and then we get to eat dinner and play.”

“Hanukkia?” Matilda asks. Lavender nods and leads them to a small table near the window.

“A lot of people call it a menorah, but they’re actually a little different. Each night we add and light a new candle to it,” she explains.

“Interesting,” Miss Honey says, looking at the two candles waiting unlit. Lavender shrugs.

“Yeah.”

“Do you know anything about the history of Hanukkah, Lavender? Where it comes from, or anything?” Miss Honey asks.

Lavender looks a little put out at being asked to give a history lesson, but she seems equally delighted to explain this bit of her culture to them. “A really long time ago we had a temple, and it got destroyed by the Romans. So we made a new one and it meant we… basically that we just got to be Jewish. And then there was a new king and he said it was against the law to be Jewish and he banned everything to do with Judaism. He tried to… uh… as-assim… um…”

“Assimilate?” Miss Honey asks kindly. Lavender nods eagerly.

“Yeah! Assimilate us to be Greek and follow their culture and stuff. So we had to hide, and then we got an army and fought back so we could be free again. And then the Greeks looted the new temple and s…sac… they killed a pig in it, which is really, really bad for Jewish people. Um, and then eventually we won the war and rebuilt the temple again, but we had to decidate it, and you have to do that with oil. Pure oil, but they couldn’t find any because the Greeks burned all of it. But then they found one bottle and used it to light the menorah for the decidation, and it burned for eight whole days. So we celebrate for eight days around the anniversary of when it got decidated.”

Matilda thinks that story sounds much more interesting than the story behind Christmas. A war? Miraculous oil? Much cooler than some baby being born with a cow next door.

“That was exactly right, Lavie, excellently done,” Lavender’s father says as he leads the rest of his family into the room. Lavender brightens at the praise. Her father shakes Miss Honey’s hand and waves to Matilda. Matilda waves back with a smile.

He takes a match and lights the candle in the middle before he begins to speak in Hebrew. Lavender notices the panicked looks on both Matilda and Miss Honey’s faces and quietly whispers, “Just follow along as best you can. It’s okay if you don’t get it right.”

They both nod and listen. It’s beautiful, almost like he’s speaking a song. Lavender quietly explains as he continues.

“This one is basically just thanking God for commanding us to do the mitzvah of lighting the candles and stuff. For humbling us,” she whispers. “And then this one is thanking God for the blessing and the miracle of the old days.”

“What’s a mitzvah?” Matilda whispers back.

“Basically just a good deed,” Lavender responds. “Oh, and this prayer we only do on the first day. This one is thanking God for letting us live through the year to see this holiday. For sustainering us.”

Matilda and Miss Honey both nod, and watch as Lavender’s father picks up the lit candle and uses it to light the rightmost (and currently, only) candle in the hanukkia. He says more prayers in Hebrew as he does, and then puts the candle back in the middle as he continues praying.

It’s quiet for a moment after the prayers have ended. Eventually, Lavender eagerly says, “Now it’s time to eat!”

“That was beautiful,” Miss Honey says as they’re led into the dining room.

“Thank you,” Lavender’s mother says. “Lavender assigned everyone seats, if you’d like to find yours.”

“You’re next to me, Matilda! I’ll be right back, I have to help carry stuff,” Lavender says.

“Oh, can we help-” Miss Honey begins to ask.

“No!” Lavender yells back, already in the kitchen.

“Alright then.”

Lavender, her parents, and her younger brother, Linus, carry in platter after platter of food. It isn’t terribly unusual. Matilda always leaves dinner at Lavender’s house full nearly to bursting, and feeling an extra little touch of empathy for poor Bruce.

The lids come off to reveal plates stacked with donuts and latkes and toppings, a small assortment of other fried foods, a huge bowl of matzo ball soup, and as always, lots of traditional food from the Philippines. Aside from all the fried things, it’s not all that far off from a usual dinner at Lavender’s house.

Once the family sits down, everyone digs into the food. Lavender helpfully piles Matilda’s plate with the latkes and applesauce to go with them, and no fewer than three donuts.

“These are called sufganyot,” Lavender explains when Matilda takes a massive bite out of the donut. “We eat a lot of fried foods at Chanukah. Because… oil.”

Matilda tries to giggle as politely as she can with her mouth full of delicious powdered sugar and jelly. “Makes sense. They’re really good. This is a… sufgantoy?”

“Sufganyot,” Lavender corrects. “And if there’s only one it’s called a sufganyah.”

“Oh,” Matilda says. “Sufganyah.”

“Yeah!” Lavender says, giving her a proud thump on the back and causing her to almost lose the bite of latke she had taken.

There’s surprisingly little conversation over dinner, as everyone has their mouths stuffed with one thing or another. They down a frankly unhealthy amount of chicken adobo, latkes with applesauce and sour cream, lumpia, donuts, and soup; complaining and rejoicing in equal measure about their full bellies after the fact.

“I hope you guys wake up hungry tomorrow. Mum’s gonna send you home with enough leftovers for a whole week.”

“Sounds delightful,” Miss Honey says, resting a hand on her stomach. Matilda almost wants to eat the leftovers now, but feels that’s still very dangerous territory.

Everyone carries their dishes to the kitchen before they’re effectively banished from helping any further. Lavender’s father and brother stay behind to handle the washing up and packing the leftovers away while her mother leads the rest of them back to the living room.

“Have you ever heard of a dreidel, Matilda?” she asks.

“I think so,” Matilda responds. “It’s like a top? You spin it?”

“Yes! Would you like to learn how to play? And you too, Miss Honey,” she says.

“Oh, yes please,” Matilda says eagerly.

“Then you need some of this!” Lavender says with great excitement, dropping a small pouch in each of their hands. They look down at them in confusion for a moment before they carefully open them. Matilda pulls out a small thing wrapped in gold foil. “It’s called gelt. Chocolate coins.”

Her mother pushes the rug out of the way just enough for them to have room on the hard ground to properly spin the dreidel. Lavender picks it up to explain the rules.

“These are all Hebrew characters. This one is called nun, this is gimmel, this is hay, and this is shin.”

“Do you remember what they stand for?” her mother asks.

Lavender rolls her eyes at yet another test, but eventually she hesitantly comes out with, “Nes gadol haya sham?”

Her mother nods proudly. “And what does it mean?”

“A great miracle happened there,” Lavender says with more confidence.

“Good job, darling,” her mother praises. “Alright, back to the fun stuff.”

“So everyone bets some gelt,” Lavender explains. They each put about half of their pouch-fuls into the middle. “Some people use real money, but the chocolate is funner. Now you spin the dreidel. If it lands on nun, nothing really happens. If it lands on gimmel, you get to take the whole pot. If it lands on hay, you get to take half the pot, and if it lands on shin, you have to add some of your gelt to the pot.”

Matilda and Miss Honey get a little cheat sheet with what each character is called and what it means they do, and Matilda gets to spin first. She gets hay, and wiggles happily as she adds half of the large stack in the middle to her own personal stash.

Eventually Lavender’s father and Linus return from the kitchen and join in. Everyone laughs and cheers, especially when Lavender’s father manages to spin the dreidel upside-down. In the end, Matilda comes away with the biggest pile of gelt.

“Congratulations, Matilda,” Lavender’s mother says with a smile.

Matilda smiles back. “That’s so much fun.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it,” Lavender’s father chortles. “And glad someone’s finally around to give Lav a run for her gelt.”

“Can we go to my room now?” Lavender pleads with her parents. Her mother nods and shoos her off, so Lavender grabs Matilda by the hand and hauls her up the stairs to her bedroom. “Finally. My family is so loud.”

“I like it,” Matilda says, sitting on Lavender’s ironically purple bed. “It’s a happy loud.”

Lavender shrugs. “I guess so. How was your first Hanukkah celebration?”

“Amazing,” Matilda says immediately. “I think it’s even better than Christmas.”

Lavender shrugs again. “My mum says nothing’s better, it’s just not the same.”

“That’s true,” Matilda says.

“But I think it’s better too,” Lavender says with a conniving smile. Matilda smiles back.

“Oh, I have something for you,” she says, suddenly remembering what the weight in her pocket has been. She roots through it until she finds the box and holds it out. Lavender gave Matilda her Christmas present (a beautifully homemade scratch-and-sniff bookmark) before they left school for the winter break, but Matilda hadn’t found a good Chanukah present in time. Now she has, and Lavender tears the paper off eagerly.

Matilda watches anxiously as Lavender discards the final scrap of the wrapping paper and flips the lid on the box. Lavender beams as soon as she sees what’s inside. “They match!”

“They’re especially for best friends,” Matilda says. “One is for me, but I wanted to let you pick which one.”

Inside the special box are two necklaces. Each has a pendant shaped to be half of a heart. One half reads, “BE FRIE” and the other reads, “ST NDS”. Put together, they spell, “BEST FRIENDS” and form the whole heart.

“You should have this one, you’re always on that side when our mums take pictures of us,” Lavender says logically, holding up the “ST NDS” half.

She helps Matilda clasp it around her neck, and Matilda helps her with her half. Lavender turns around once the necklace is securely on and holds out her pinky. Matilda looks at it in confusion, but she wraps her own pinky around it.

“Now we have the necklaces it’s for real official. We have to pinky promise to be best friends forever,” Lavender explains.

Matilda isn’t sure how it’s any more official than it was before, but she certainly doesn’t disagree. “Can’t we just normal promise?”

Lavender shakes her head vehemently. “Pinky promises are much stronger.”

“Okay.”

“I pinky promise to be Matilda Honey’s best friend forever.”

Matilda giggles. “I pinky promise to be Lavender Torres’ best friend forever.”

Lavender twists their arms around each other in a way that’s almost painful and kisses their locked pinkies. Matilda thinks she actually kisses her own pinky, but she doesn’t mention it and does the same. So many rituals to be a best friend. Matilda most certainly isn’t complaining.

“There. Now it’s official,” Lavender says. Matilda smiles as they let go and they each officially have a best friend forever.

They flop next to each other on Lavender’s bed and stare up at the glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to the ceiling. “Happy Chanukah, Lav.”

“Happy Christmas, Tils.”

i’ve been wanting to write how this all went down for a few weeks now, and somehow i made it sadder than what i planned initially. thank you so so much for getting the train rolling with your prompt @blucifermain !!!! it went longer than i meant for it to, it’s about 600 words and i had a stronger ending in mind, but i cut it short so we didn’t get any higher than that ;;

"Anything that comes out of your mouth is stupid!" Aki shouted, glaring the Exarch down. “Why summon me to this god forsaken world and then keep all these secrets from me? I had a glimmer of hope, seeing the Crystal tower…” She clenched her fist, slamming it into the wall. “And the only person who truly knew me should have been here! and in his place, some stupid mage who dosent have the decency to tell the truth!”

Was she… talking about him?

“I won’t ask again,” she spoke, her voice barley above a whisper. She glared at him accusingly. “Where is Raha?”

The urge to crumble, to take his hood off and beg for her forgiveness, to finally feel her body next to his after so, so long… it was almost irresistible.

And it was all too late for it. With only a couple light wardens to go, she would be doomed if his plan failed, as well as the entire shard.

His silence was a clear enough answer for her. She scoffed. “I should have known better than getting my hopes up. I will take my next orders from you through a messenger, Exarch.” She turned around and slammed the door behind her.

He walked to the door and locked it. He turned to examine the mess of the Ocular. Books, priceless artifacts strewn across the floor, many of their pages having been ripped out of place. It was a disaster- and one of his own doing, nonetheless.

He sat on the ground, his back to the door. Truly, he was deserving of her rage. He simply hadn’t expected her to still be so attached.

Just as attached to him as he was to her.

And for her to call him his given name was beyond shocking. He hadn’t heard that name in over 100 years, and longer since it had been spoken like that.

What would she say when he took the light from her? Should he reveal himself then, if just for a selfish moment of letting his eyes unglamored meet hers? Even if just for a moment, he could pretend things were okay again. That they were back sharing a tent in Mor Dhona. That they were young, restless adventurers with all too much pent up energy once more. That they were hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, on a cot only made for one.

He didn’t deserve it, not anymore. He didn’t deserve it after leaving her like that.

His attention was caught by his mirror. He stood up and made his way through the mess on the floor to stand in front of it. That was his fate, until his death. He would watch the world from his tower, never knowing true joy again.

And so, he found himself casting a familiar spell on it before he could stop himself.

“I don’t know why I thought his answer would be any different,” Aki sobbed into Thancred’s chest. The gunbreaker held her tightly, whispering reassurances G’raha couldn’t quite hear through the Mirror.

“He just sounds so like him- And i’m certain he’s a Miqo’te as well! But he didn’t even react when i said his name- Is he truly gone?” she asked through hiccups.

Thancred shook his head. “There’s no way to know,” he said softly. “But let's get you some water and some rest. Doubtless you will need it.”

G’raha cut the connection, having already seen more than he deserved. He was relieved someone was there for her, but that couldn’t lift his heavy heart.

If only he was deserving of being by her side. If only he could be there for her like he once was…

But that ship sailed the moment he stepped on the First.

//Well, I just finished Antebellum Daily Life Chapter 3. I shall put my thoughts below (SPOILERS FOLLOW)

I’ll get my annoyances out of the way first:

I was so hopeful that this would be the first fangan I’ve seen where we wouldn’t have two victims. But I guess we’re doing it anyway, huh?

Taka seemed like he’d be a safe bet, since he already survived a double murder attempt last chapter. In fact, I was so sure he was gonna make it that I thought Asuga would be the victim here, especially since there was so much emphasis on her this chapter. Instead, no, Taka dies anyway. Kinda making me wonder what the point was.

And poor Emilia too. Not only does she die, but she does so without even getting the chance to make up with Mint, who clearly still cared about her. She barely got any focus this daily life, so I’m hoping the circumstances of her death will provide more insights and she’s not just another afterthought victim.

And this really hurts because I know it’s gonna be someone we cared about who did all this. I have no idea who yet, but I know this is designed to rip our hearts out one way or another.

Okay, onto the positives:

The structural collapse as a motive was definitely not what I was expecting, but it’s a good one.

Shinku needs some goddamn therapy, but I’m glad he at least has medication to help with his hallucinations. Here’s hoping Asuga managed to reach him and get him to open up to the others.

Same with Kotaro, who really needs help.

Rei is also the most terrifying wild card possible. Like, he’s even more unpredictable than Nagito and it worries me. But in a good way that makes me want to see more.

The POV switch with Lyra was unexpected, as was the in-depth exploration of her background and her FTEs, but certainly welcome. I especially enjoyed her interactions with Ismene, and getting to see some flashbacks to Callem and Sachiko. Poor girl’s had it rough.

Takiko has discovered capitalism, yet I trust her with it more than most. Not to mention her discovery of the hidden door is definitely gonna be important.

Even if Emilia didn’t get much focus this chapter, I did like her bit with Shinku, where she told him that so many people have tried “fixing” her that it’s made her feel guilty about being herself.

One thing I really like about this chapter is that it seems to have a solid theme about being stuck with what someone else wants you to be, not what you want:

Everyone being trapped on opposite sides of the lab and separated from their closest friends.

Emilia being subject to so many attempts at “I can fix her” that she doesn’t want to be fixed anymore.

Asuga’s brother Nikko being forced into life as a pageant queen by their stage mom and essentially asking for help escaping on live TV.

Taka wanting a younger audience so he can really be himself and talk about himself, since he actually fears being judged by his mostly older viewers.

Lyra’s life under Shedo, where she tried to do everything from attending high school with Callem to spending time with the Ushina’s. And tragically, her attempts at living a life outside of her gang connections backfired horribly.

We got to see Asuga’s brother Nikko and Taka’s pet fish Man.

Overall, waiting for this was intense, but waiting for Deadly Life will be even more so ^^;

First is Lennox Cahill from my RepComm fic Listen Real Closely

She’s only 22 when she’s introduced and of course will be 25 by the time the Clone War ends

She has a twin brother named Courtney, and their dad mixed up their names on their birth certificates on accident when they were born

She’s a Gemini and she and Courtney have matching tattoos about it because they thought it was funny

Both her dad and brother are military men which is why she’s not too put off by the way Delta acts

She is a casual touch kinda person which Delta is very put off by when they see it outside of vode especially when Lennox gets comfortable enough to do it with them too

She has in fact seen E.T. and that will be relevant later

Not a big spoiler but something cute; she gets the nickname LC, which could mean anything from her own name, to Lucky Charm and Little Commando

There’s so much trauma I have to unpack with her

I need to start writing for this again holy shit I feel so bad

Second is Pippa Devereux for a Clone Wars/501st fic that I haven’t written

She’s from a planet that’s almost constantly embroiled in a civil war similar to the way Mandalore was in the past

She is a technological genius; numbers and mechanics have always come natural to her, they just make sense

Because of that she became the chief mechanic for her faction in the civil war when she was a pre-teen

She eventually got away and worked in scrap yards and space ports as a mechanic to make money and travel

She eventually made it to Coruscant where she was in the right place at the right time and fixed the ship of the right person and she was eventually hired to make military ships

She developed the invisible ship that Anakin used on Christophsis which is how she gets an independent contract to work for the 501st

She has an R2 droid called Jolt who helps her do morally and legally sus things sometimes

Very abrasive personality; can and will fight you

This is a Fives x OC idea because I love him

Third and last is Reeve for a Mandalorian fic (I named her before Koska Reeves was introduced and I’m not changing it lol)

She’s originally from Jedha but gets out before the events of Rogue One, obviously

She was an orphan who was essentially raised by Chirrut and Baze; they’re basically her dads

She’s force sensitive and blind like Chirrut, so he teaches her how to see the world through the force like he does (even though neither of them are able to USE the force, if that makes sense. That’s how I’ve always interpreted Chirrut at least)

She wanted to be a Guardian of the Whills like him before she had to leave Jedha when the Empire got more involved

She went with the owner of the orphanage she grew up in and some of the other children and spent time after leaving traveling to different planets finding homes and families for them

She wears a charm in her hair for every child she saved

She meets Mando after season 1 but before season 2 so he already has Grogu with him

He thinks she’s a Jedi but she denies that; she’s not and never will be

She’s cultivated her own beliefs about the force based on what she learned from Chirrut and what she interprets from the force itself

After Ever Happy (2022) - Movie Review

(Based on the novel series After by Anna Todd)

CW: Alcohol Addiction and Overdose.

Obligatory Disclaimer: Did not read the source material. Most reference to them is speculation or public knowledge.

Here were are again. Harden (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) have once again graced our straight to streaming/DVD screens with another look at their whirlwind of a toxic romance, for the 4th installment of the After series.

Wild revelations were dropped in the last movie (After We Fell) and if you’ve been following this series, not in the book, than you kinda wanted to know what was gonna come from all the cracks in this couple’s, as well as their family’s lives. You probably felt a little bad for them and hoped that some growing would take place and old patterns wouldn’t be followed.... Okay, maybe that was a bit much in the hoping department, cause unless you actually love this couple, you already know what’s to come. You know that there is no saving them and you wish that they would do themselves a favor and finally let go of the toxic strings that tie them together, but you also know that won’t happen.

After Ever Happy is what you get when you haven’t found a way or refuse to stop the push and the pull and you know your core audience will just follow you right to the edge of that cliff every time. As for me, I’m here for the downfall and the potential for a movie review.

See it can’t be for the spice cause that part was not good. There was maybe 2 maybe 3 spicy scenes in the entire film and the first was so ill-placed that I was done with it before it even finished, as with the rest of them. I’m sorry but the sex you use to fix your poor communication wasn’t enticing enough to my eyes or my feels, for me to say this works. 

It once again couldn’t be any of the parts in the story that I hoped would get some real attention either, cause spoiler alert, they didn’t. There are some heavy themes in this story and I just wanted something tangible done with them. You don’t have to preform a miracle, just do better. I’ve said this multiple times (across several reviews in this series) CARE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS!

Oh and although predictable, we’re not here for the continued rip on 50 Shades of Grey. Another thing I’ve mentioned before. A lot of romance novels eat off of each other’s plates, so much so that many are simply regurgitating the same story with slight variations. The After series takes big bites and expects folks not to notice or knows people see it and ignores that elephant in the room. Now this isn’t the downfall of this movie, it’s just funny that they do it and makes those parts worse. 

There is no growth here. This relationship is not everlasting. It’s not meant to defy all odds. It’s a burning building and anyone who tells you that this is what unconditional love looks like, has already breathed in too much smoke and can most likely not be saved, just like Tess cannot save Harden.

A positive though, is that the cast has finally gotten consistent. I didn’t see a recast of anyone I would have remembered and the people who are here now have been with us for at least 2 or 3 films at this point. You lose a lot with constant recasting, so thanks for keeping who you could.

Okay, so at this point we all know what we’re getting and just like Tumblr acknowledges what kind of platform they got, the After series is acknowledging the kind of toxic romance they’ve created. I haven’t seen them do that before, but I imagine if enough people tell you something about yourself, sometimes you have to admit defeat, thus bringing us here.It’s the 4th movie and possibly one of the first times that we’re all on the same page. Not for long though, cause we all saw that “To Be Continued...” and know there are 2 more movies to follow this one.

Here’s what we’re all gonna do.... We’re gonna keep going, cause we’re invested, we’re gonna keep saying that this relationship is toxic, so that everyone who romanticizes it doesn’t get a moment of peace and eventually realizes it too and then when this is all over we’re gonna move onto the next story with another toxic relationship. It’s called rinse and repeat for slight entertainment.

I am not mad that Harden wrote a book about his and Tessa’s relationship as therapy, however I’m not big on the idea that he could just put it out there like that. The book seemed to cover every detail and I’d personally wouldn’t want my intimate life displayed like that without some knowledge or buffer. Like he just showed up with a manuscript and a meeting and she’s just supposed to be like “cool.” I don’t need Harden to be a good person, I just need him to stop with the BS and remember that the world doesn’t revolve around him.

Love In The Air Live Blogging

As a maker of terrible decisions, I’m starting watching this on the day a 10% assignment is due (which I’m not done) and 3 days before my midterm (which I haven’t started studying for).

I usually do my best to avoid spoilers but not for this show lol I know like 80% of what happened so far (released up to Ep 11) to prepare myself for the characters (specifically Payu and Prapai) and their questionable actions. Also, I’m slightly obsessed with Sky from these clips.

Ep 1 (Nov 2)

lol I read like 1 chapter of this translated on Wattpad before giving up because the translation was so bad and it’s funny to see it play out because I know Rain’s inner monologue at this part 

D: is Payu pretending to not remember Rain? No way he forgot him right

loll esp when I’ve been spoiled that Payu fucked with Rain’s car early on, I guess that’s right now

lmfaoo Rain batting his eyelashes at Payu and pleading with him to fix his car

“If you’re trying to seduce me, do it better next time” lol I do see how he came to that conclusion

Surprisingly, I do see how Payu came to the conclusion that Rain was coming onto him lol but him not stopping when Rain asks him to is a bit... but I see why Payu was like “stop playing hard to get” because if your idea of consent was just from TV and books, I can see how it’d fall into that

Payu’s voice reminds me of War’s

Anyway, this was played off as silly and cute enough that it was fine and didn’t make me emotionally uncomfortable, just raised like a few ! in my brain. like yeah I’m side-eyeing Payu’s sleeziness but I’m not opposed to smiling at their interactions lol

Cast Reaction: It was mostly them ganging up on Noeul as Rain lol They also seem to have fun watching scenes they weren’t in 

I do wonder if it’s better if I watch the show first so that these faces are just mostly the characters to me rather than watching the show and having it be “X playing Y” in my mind. I can’t really do that wish people I’ve watched before or know a lot about outside of the show (like so many GMMTV actors lol like I was watching eclipse and in my head it was First playing Akk rather than just Akk), so this is an opportunity that I get for rookie actors/people I haven’t watched before. But on the other hand, I’ll watch like 5 eps a day and finish early and have to wait for ep 13 otherwise so...

Ep 2 (Nov 2)

hm the first 4 mins is just repeat of last ep last scene

Ep title: I hate Payu (Storm) and I’m not talking about the weather

I do like fun titles hehe

I can never feel comfortable while watching these kids pretend to drive in a way that’d get them in an accident in 3 seconds even though i know there’s no car accident in the show

The bathroom neck hovering/kissing goes on for so long goddamn but it was fun if I thought 0 thoughts about it. Payu instructing Rain...

Y’know it’s interesting that Payu doesn’t like ill-mannered people or swearing because I feel like on a surface level that’s more of a uke trait. I guess it also helps that his other traits like being quite domineering and doing racing help counteract that also

To me, it was cuz Rain jumped through a few hoops like “I don’t want him to call me stupid” -> “He won’t call someone he likes stupid” -> “I’ll make him fall for me” Also Peat guessed Payu wants to say hello to Rain’s parents and Fort guessed he wants to ask for Rain’s hand and everybody laughed when Payu said forgiveness

Ep 3 (Nov 3)

killing me that it takes Rain that many days and hints to realize he can use his phone to contact Payu

Aww Rain got his feelings hurt being confronted with the fact that he’s not the first to wait like this for Payu 

uiii Rain being gutsy telling the server he’s hitting on Payu. lmfao Rain begrudgingly giving Payu his bowl and chopsticks 

loll the “replace stupid with cute” moment

The humour and Rain’s overreaction reminds me a lot of Japanese BLs like Kieta Hatsukoi tbh like my guy had cute cute cute! pop up all around him and then had to sit down in the middle of the street

Me watching this the day before my midterm (27 hours left...) and Rain’s getting scolded for being irresponsible and not using time wisely regarding school work ummmm why would you do this to me. Although I find the prof so annoying like submission due date at 8:30am what a joke and why is there no late penalty handing in? Profs like that are soooo annoying like “if I extend it for you, how many would I have to extend?” like bruv give people some wiggle room

Aw, poor Rain, he’s in first year right? Tough times, uni was so different than high school for us and it was a wild time to come being one of the better students in your class to a place where pretty much everybody is as good as you or better. I wonder how much this is worth lol cuz I’ve gotten used to taking Ls on stuff that’s worth 10% or less, it’s the 20% or greater Ls that hurt now but even then, gotta get over it quick or else you’ll fail the next thing

Fave Scene: The 2 hug scenes where Payu comforts Rain after first coming to see him + after when Rain’s drying his hair. 

Cast Reaction: Just Boss and Neoul this time. Funny to see Noeul go “oh P’Saifah is cool” -> Boss looking at him like hmm -> Noeul picking up on it and going haha P’Payu is super cool! because Rain would never pick up on it lmfao

Ep 4 (Nov 4)

Finished my exam, fucked around a bit after coming home and now onto the next ep!

I know everyone’s like let’s see stuff outside of college!!!! but I really enjoy it when being a college student is actually a part of the plot. Rain being academically irresponsible and paying for it last ep was great. Them working hard for multiple days and staying up the day before an assignment due and then just going straight to sleep is also so relatable. My midterms just ended tonight so I’ve also been having a Fun Time and I’ll be sleeping so well tonight but after that I’ll have to catch up on 2 weeks of work on 2 different classes that I’ve neglected cuz that material won’t be on the midterm rip

The sound in this is so bad, why can I hear the clothes and the leather and everythingggg lol

I think a bl should show us con-somno. love mechanics had the con-noncon fun ending, we should get a fun con-somno that’s appealing but doesn’t make me feel weird. Also, Payu lightly slapping Rain’s stomach to wake up/punish him for pretending... haha

Cast Reaction: Boss was already dying during their little kiss when Rain goes to see Payu after finishing all his homework lol they both passed away watching the NC scene

I realized Tonnam who plays Sig also played a similar character in Cutie Pie, the wacky schoolmate in the friend group. I’m curious to see him in Triage where he apparently plays a doctor (Dr. Sing? or smth) and he’s also in a main character in Wish You Luck 2023 which is like a post-apocalyptic or sci-fi BL

Ep 5 (Nov 5)

so many gratuitous shots of Payu lol from him waking up to the exercising

I’ve felt this a few times but so many scenes/shots just feel too long like I wonder if it’s because I’m watching the uncut version but let’s cut a lot of these scenes by 10-30 seconds bruv

oh yeah, i hadn’t realized the mafia twins from Don’t Say No were already had shown up for a sec in ep 5. i only became aware when i was watching tiktok people’s ep 5 thoughts and somebody mentioned it and even in this ep, do they appear for just 1 second to wave?

lol the state of love interests in BL is so shit that I was pleasantly surprised by Payu not resorting to violence or provocation at the race (which is his workplace) despite the shitty rich kid. He did provoke a bit with words toward the end but like deserved

They’ve started translating mia to darling instead of wife lol

cute to see Rain tryna get Payu to smile and not be mad at the situation

Stormy at office -> sunshine in garage

aw Rain worried about Payu. Payu finally being serious and putting his hands in his pockets was kinda attractive

Rain being forward and horny in this NC scene, so true. Payu turning Rain around and pushing him against the wall ahh Rainnnn. 

I’m having the wildest time watching this NC scene lmfao usually I’ll like it and watch it fully or mostly (depending on how embarrassing it is) or I’ll skip most of it or watch on a small screen. This scene I’m not skipping anything because it’s just like not awkward or weird but also, it’s too much, so idk where I fall because I keep being like ohhh I like this move and then being like ewww tongue swiping lmfao I watched the tongue swiping twice because I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time and physically, involuntarily jerked away both times bc it’s so ew to me but I’m also so incredibly fascinated like damn they did that

wait Rain kissing Payu’s forehead, that’s suchhhh a seme to uke/top toward bottom thing! Rain’s been very forward and more dom than subby in this NC scene but that really sealed the deal lol I love light switches even though Mame doesn’t seem to do verse like at all

Fave Scene: The NC scene just because of how I liked parts of it a lot and was icked out by parts of it; usually NC scenes lean more toward one of the other. Also, bold Rain in the scene was great

Cast Reaction: Always fun to see Boss shrivel up and be cute about the makeout and NC scenes. hilarious to see him say “It’s not me, It’s Payu!” about the scene where Payu tells Rain to take off the suit or whatever before the race (12:30m). Seeing all of them literally pass away while watching the NC was hilarious lol, after it ended it looked like all them came down from a roller coaster. lmfao watched the longer part of them watching the NC scene on a diff youtube clip and they just screamed and yelled the whole time, so funny; Fort was right saying that was tiring. 

Ep 7 (Nov 7)

The kidnapping’s kinda just meh, like sure. It’s like the ep 10 conflict w the gun in Bad Buddy like why can’t we keep shows that have mostly internal and interpersonal conflict that way without throwing in a random gun/kidnapping for some plot. 

It wasn’t that cool either cuz it was just Payu going and getting beat up (which makes sense lmao he’s not a trained fighter nor a mafioso). kinda interesting once again that they didn’t make him sooo cool and better than everybody that he can take all of them. Rain on the other hand was really ballsy though, probably too much considering he was tied up and could do nothing 

lol Rain’s iconic “*kick!* only P’Payu can screw me!” and Payu’s big ass grin when Rain walks back to him afterward is cute lol

lol the telling friends about their relationship was funny when I watched clips of it and it’s still funny now. I’m gonna ignore how Sky didn’t have permission to say Rain’s dating someone nor did he say it’s okay for Payu to say they’re dating in front of all his friends

ah, we’re getting some info about Prapai and Sky current situation

lol Prapai bothering Payu until Rain gives Sky his number. sigh don’t even have energy to be annoyed at Rain giving Prapai Sky’s number bc later on he’ll give him his dorm keys for fuck’s sake

oh yeah I knew Payu tampered with Rain’s car. It’s one of the early ep things that I’m just: ignoring. “You won’t love me after learning the truth?” well, i’d certainly reconsider

Fave Scene: The telling friends scene I guess

PayuRain story is done. Overall thoughts is that I thought I’d have to ignore more things than I did lol; like it’s just the very first night, the bathroom, the spanking, and the car tempering that are questionable and those happened really early on. I don’t like that people say that’s just their brat/tamer dynamics because you do need to agree upon the dynamics first. Anyway, still fun dynamic if you don’t think about how uncomfortable it is.

I don’t get people saying this had no plot because ? Character growth and growing into a relationship is like a fair plot for a BL, esp because so many bls are already like that. so i don’t get it.

Enjoyable but not a fave.

The Prapai/Sky bits in this ep were giving me such mixed feelings cuz it’s actually really appealing to me but like, even as a lover of fucking rancid dynamics, Prapai being a creep to a traumatized abuse victim is just a lot. like some of the spoilers I’ve heard... I like Sky so much though, I just want better for him

Ep 8 (Nov 8)

I would’ve been way more eager to start this if ep 13 didn’t piss everyone off. ahh i’ll try to enjoy it as much as i can bc i think it’s a very interesting story and dynamic still

Unwanted tally of Rain being a shitty friend: leaving Sky during the race (and not even wondering what happened to him), giving Prapai Sky’s number

Watching this is like I really don’t know how to feel. Fort was probably Payu-level teasing with the “ooh yknow what you have to do to leave” but Sky took it literally cause of the past abuse T.T Can’t even watch the sex scene without thinking of how Sky’s gonna feel hurt by it and how he feels coerced into it

repetitive PayuRain scene, what was the point

Somehow Sig’s outbursts are funny but P’Som’s aren’t

While watching the cast reaction, I understood something. Sky says “oi! Why’s this like the book?” when Prapai first called him because he was reading Love Sky, his own novel lol

Rain, since you called, at least tell Sky that you give his number to Prapai!

Prapai ambushing Sky outside the uni and getting Rain to leave them alone is a level of sleaziness that I can still enjoy and have fun with without being too upset about it

I am soooo normal about Sky giving Rain a punishment... it’s not a doozy at all

Fave Scene: Sky - Rain - Prapai scene in front of the uni, I enjoyed the humour in what Rain thinks is happening vs what’s actually happening. Also Rain punishing Sky

Ep 9 (Nov 8)

finally watching 2 eps in the same day again. midterm season ended, i’m a little caught up on homework and i gotta make sure i get to ep 13 by thursday 

Prapai also bi/pan and also there’s something kinda ew about how his siblings and he discuss sleeping with people like that’s your siblinggggg but Pai holding both their heads and vibrating was cute and sibling-like

nooo even the mention of ‘love’ taking Sky to a bad place

sky canon nipple piercings... but also apprehension bc idk where he got them, considering his past trauma and abuse

This sort of stalking and sleaziness from Prapai is slightly off-putting but I could probably put up with it, esp once Sky decides he likes him

“If you’re really my friend, never mention that son of a bitch again, got it?!” aw Skyyy

Sky nightmare :( but then Sky unconsciously smiling at Prapai’s texts. Reminds me of The Eclipse with Ayan’s nightmares and Akk’s smiling at Ayan’s text

Has P’Som been useful in any way ever? Annoying ass character

Dang, does Sky have nightmares every time he sleeps? Makes sense why he always seems to stay awake when his friends come over for all-nighters and naps

How the fuck am I supposed to root for Prapai when he keeps getting new SIMs to get around Sky blocking him and texting him so much that he worsens Sky’s breakdown over his ex and his abuse. Seeing Sky being so upset about these texts and calls is just agh

Rain strike 3: giving sick Sky’s dorm keys to Prapai despite Sky having gotten mad at him for giving Pai his phone number + insisting times he doesn’t like Pai

A taking care of sick boyfriend (to be) is cute if yknow... it’s not so greatly against the sick person’s wishes

Cast Reaction: Fort and Peat both looked really good in this reaction lol Also Fort’s reaction was kinda fun cuz I think he’d sometimes get confused lol and also he was actually sad at the sad parts. I think it was fun cuz it seemed like they were also watching it as the audience instead of as the actors

I don’t even know what to say like why couldn’t it just have been like regular levels of creep and more of us seeing Sky fall for him and saying no to guard his heart. Why the hell would I wanna support Prapai after his relentless texting and calling made Sky’s breakdown worse and had him yelling while clutching and pounding his bedsheets.

That wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be; I’d seen a lot of complaints so I thought it’d be worse but it was just kinda sad distressing because they were both hurting and then hurting each other because of it and I can empathize with both.

Okay I was nervous about this ep because of certain spoilers and because I heard some general dissatisfaction but when watching, I could see where both characters were coming from and why they were reacting the way they were. There was something slightly off about the episode to me (was it disjointed writing? maybe iffy editing? idk) but I thought it'd take me back to how I felt about ep 8/9 Pai but nah, the characters' actions and progressions made sense to me based on who they are so far

I thought it was good at showing the sadness of the situation like Sky's insecurities and past experience make him ghost and lash out at Pai on the phone and Pai is understandably hurt and and although the breach of privacy by just going in Sky's room and reading his diary is a lot for me, I knew Pai was like that from ep 8 so lol

Also, I’m becoming more impressed with Fort’s acting because I didn’t think much of it before but in ep 10 when he was upset with Sky for the panic-inducing call and this ep when he was angry (”...you pick up when it’s not my number?”) and sad during his breakup call with Sky were idk good at showing intense but subdued emotions. him reading the diary entries out loud was wild though like it was making me nervous and I thought he did well. I think he’d just do better in a role that’s not a “dom, older dude” because he’s better when he’s not tryna pull off the sleazy domtop thing and he was giving me ‘younger seme’ vibes in ep 9 and 10.

Also, people have been saying Sky in the diary scene was just supposed to be not crying tears but rather yelling and hyperventilating etc the way he was but I wish the show actually showed that.

Okay, last episode came out like 9 hours ago, time to watch it. I’m glad I waited to watch it instead of as soon as it came out though because apparently it’s extremely triggering and they do a weirdly realistic job portraying Sky’s abuse and SA. So. I’m nervous about that.

RainPayu - PayuRain story is done. Overall thoughts is that I thought I’d have to ignore more things than I did lol; a few things happen early on and we can ignore that + the fact that there wasn’t consent/discussion for a brat/tamer dynamic and just enjoy it - still a fun dynamic. I don’t get people saying this had no plot because ? Character growth and growing into a relationship is like a fair plot for a BL, esp because so many bls are already like that. so i don’t get it. Enjoyable but not a fave; I think the fact that I got into PaiSky the very next day also made me kinda forget about this pair.

PaiSky - They took up much more of my brainspace than PayuRain, both in good and bad ways. Pai was shitty in the first few eps of their story (mans is fr a stalker, doesn’t take no ew) but he’s also so good for Pai once he stops with the creepy shit and I have to be like... whelp, if you like him. I watched ep 10 and 11 being like “I shall ignore all of Pai’s questionable behaviour” and it’s definitely enjoyable that way, I liked ep 10 the best. 

The show is known for the NC scenes and I enjoyed both pair’s second NC scenes. PayuRain’s was just wild and I was intrigued, even though I had negative physical reactions a few times. SkyPai’s was soooo romantic and I’m floored by the fact that I enjoyed watching them kiss, what about their kisses was different than others’? 

I like Fort being an adorable cutie, I wanna see him play something younger (I think Pai as a younger seme would’ve been sooo good here). There were some production issues, like the sound was just shit and the editing for the second half was kinda worse than the first half.
