M1: Iron Man is Born!
If you are watching Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Disney+, which I am at the moment. Then the first episode is going to be called "The Breakout Part 1".
This is a straight lie. Before the series aired they released shortened "meet the Avengers" clips online. Now they are awkwardly shoved together into episode 3 and 4, I think.
But I'm going to do this rewatch old school and only discuss "Iron Man is Born!" as it's a good place to compare it to Iron Man the movie. Although, at this point that film had come out, so the reason these openings are so short is because Marvel expects the kids to be somewhat familiar with certain characters.
It's also aimed at a much younger audience, which will probably continually come up throughout the rewatch. People say superhero movies are for kids, but we know the films are supposed to be "mainstream".
The question with the MCU is if it can stay mainstream, or if it's going to go back to being a nerd thing.
I'm not sure. We will see what Kevin Feige et al do. Right now I think it's clear there is some straining on the "mainstream-ness" of the movies, and certainly the shows. Like we have discovered a limit the the "mainstream" audience's ability spend the time caring about all these characters.
But people cared about Iron Man. It didn't even do that much in box office compared to some of the X-Men movies but I think it had a big cultural impact. I think people were happy to see Robert Downey Jr back, doing great, and being a hero.
"Iron Man Is Born!" begins in fake "found footage" form, which is funny in animation. I think this is to again reinforce this is the Iron Man you know but it's just from a difference perspective.
Then we cut to Tony talking to Rhodey. Again, these are characters you know. You'll notice the EMHU universe Tony Stark has the dumb movie facial hair that only RDJ can pull off. Mean while, Rhodey looks more like Terrance Howard. Whoopsies on the continuity front.
Tony gives a speech about how he's given up being a hero, then HYDRA immediately attacks and he's back, baby! He quips. He fights a robot.
NOTE: JARVIS is voiced by Phil LaMarr who played John Stewart/Green Lantern in the DCAU. He has a similar personality to the JARVIS of the movies, but this character will not be turned into the Vision.
Maria Hill and Nick Fury are introduced as if you know them already too. Although now Maria is a POC which would have been cool in the MCU.
The main takeaway for the viewer is that HYDRA is using Stark Technology and Tony is upset about it. It's not that big of a change from the movie where it's 10 Rings terrorists in the film. I think they also expected the theft of Tony's technology to be a bigger part of later Iron Man films. Though it probably will be in Armor Wars so.
Adaptations are interesting when they keep going back to a thing about a character.
Pepper gives a heartfelt speech about how Tony shouldn't have to fight bad guys alone. Maybe he should, start a team or something! (Again, this is all set up that aired on the internet)
SHIELD arrives and it ends with us wondering if SHIELD is going to be friends with Iron Man or not. The next half of this "episode" is a short called "HYDRA lives". At least I think that is where it ended, it looks like a commercial break in the edit on Disney+.
Rating: Eh, if you're interested.

One thing that always gets me, is Quellon Greyjoy. You got this ✨tall✨ scary dude who could have been a big fucking threat but decides to be a reformer. He tries to fix the reputation of the Iron Islands and the Greyjoys. And he dies in the most Ironborn way, in battle at sea, probably thinking at least "I did something to be proud of and the Islands are on the way to a better relationship with Westeros". But then his kids are literally an eldritch horror, a dumb thot, a religious fanatic and one short king and they just undo all of his work in like five mins. You cannot convince me that Quellon was not looking up from the depths of the Drowned God's watery halls like

Tony had been experimenting with something he shouldn't have when he got thrown through said experiment.
Turns out he's not as good at quantum mechanics as he thought. Unfortunately, this realization only occurs as he crashes into someone's couch as the portal shuts again, luckily he always performs dangerous experiments in his ironman suits, this time having chosen the bleeding edge armor due to the use of nanobots and it's better stability around the head and neck since he kept getting whiplash and concussions
Scott hears the crash in his living room from his bedroom upstairs and flinches in fright. “What the hell,” he mumbles as he grabs his suit, activates it, shrinks down, and rushes downstairs to see who’s crashing his home this time.

Just saw today's article from Variety talking about all the behind the scenes things going on at Marvel and kind of sad to see all this happen and the different things they have planned. I'm going to post some behind a cut as it's likely major spoilers if these things do end up happening. I'm not surprised by a lot of it since they have been losing money lately, there's too much now for even us longtime fans to keep up with, and things going on in real life that are affecting it. It does make you wonder if maybe they should've taken a break but at the same time I get some of these are I kind of want it to go back to how it was. Just even more curious how this is all going to work out but is weird seeing it happen here similar to DC, which I'm also a fan of.
Here's the link to the story and the rest of my thoughts behind a cut.
I get the whole thing with Jonathan Majors, especially if he's found guilty in his trial that starts later this month, so it does make sense they have a backup option. Having it be Doctor Doom actually makes even more sense as he is the best known villain of the Fantastic Four and it ties in everything with both the Avengers and the X-Men. The problem is Variety saying the end of "Loki" s2 does still point to Kang being the main villain up the next 2 "Avengers" films and the timing of the writers strike ending means they couldn't do any last minute changes to "Loki" so it'll be the upcoming films/shows that will change it to Doctor Doom if that's the case.
Then I get about the changes at the TV level as we already knew about it with the new "Daredevil" switching out writers and directors. Plus, they're supposedly going to make less TV shows and focus more on movies. Am surprised though about what's happening with the "Blade" movie and kind of worried they might end up scrapping it all together. But it seems like whatever was in development is still going ahead for both TV and film.
But the big shock for me is seeing that rumor is true they are thinking of bringing back Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansen and going back to the original line-up of "The Avengers" (though not sure about Chris Evans). It also fits with the rumors Taika Waititi left as director/writer for "Thor 5" and they're looking for a new one and Kevin saying they're planning on reuniting Thor and Loki finally. It seems they're trying to go back to the actors that made this franchise so popular in the first place.
So again I'm very curious how this is going to work out and what happens but does seem for certain changes are coming.
