I kept seeing it all over booktok and as a fantasy lover I've had friends try to convince me to read it for a while and I finally caved and I read A Court of Thorns and Rose and I flew through that first book so fast and I'm currently reading A Court of Mist and Fury now. I've been roped into another fandom and I'm not mad about it. 🤣

A Court of Thorns and Roses Review
A Court of Thorns and Roses - 3 stars -Was boring and repetitive for the first twenty chapters, second half redeemed it but overall I didn't really get the hype. Tamlin lovers ... I will never understand you. Feyre was in that place for three months and Tamlin only attempted to see/speak to her alone once and they didn't even talk. They just made out after she'd been traumatised for months. How about some words of encouragement? How about trying to get her out? How about sending someone to heal her after Lucien was injured? Rhys played the villain to help her and you know what? It worked. She's only alive because of Rhys.
A Court of Mist and Fury - 5 stars -Was actually really good! Romance was 10/10, fantasy and action was 10/10. Chapter 55 really did live up to the hype and I loved Rhys and Feyre's banter and tension leading up to it -- they had so many good moments in this book and Rhys gatecrashing Feyre and Tamlin's wedding will forever be iconic. The last 100 or so pages had me so hooked with every plot twist gagging me. Also why is Tamlin pretending to sleep whilst Feyre is vomiting her guts up every night due to PTSD so funny and yet so sad? The ending of this one really cements him as a piece of shit. TBF he is not THE villain but he is Feyre's villain and I hope she makes him pay.
A Court of Wings and Ruin - 4.5 stars -Was really good, Feyre really delivered on her threats to Tamlin and I lived for it. Rhys and Feyre were both in top notch form in their final novel and all the action was great. And again to Tamlin lovers who say Feyre went to far in destroying his Court, let's not forget that when given the chance to be civil to Feyre, he double downed and basically called her a slut in front of all the High Lords in Prythian after thinking of her as property he could bargain for. I personally lived for Feyre taking down the Spring Court, it really showed how far she'd come since the last time she'd been (trapped) there and shows how worthy she is of being High Lady of the Night Court. Just remember, Rhys built her up whilst Tamlin tore her down. Again, he's not THE villain but he is the villain in Feyre's story.
A Court of Frost and Starlight - 3 stars -I liked the insight into their 'quieter' lives after the war but this was essentially a Christmas special. Nothing actually happens in this book plot wise and I actually really begin to loathe Nesta in this one. Kinda sad in this one that Rhys and Feyre weren't having their own little adventure like they talked of in acowar. I would've enjoyed it more plotwise if they had taken a week off to hunt Bryaxis or something (low stakes but still action-y) and they could have cute moments/convos whilst camping on the hunt.
A Court of Silver Flames - 3 stars -It made me understand Nesta more but I still don't really like her as a person. I think there was a bit where someone said she didn't fail Feyre and I wholeheartedly disagree. Elain and Nesta BOTH failed Feyre as older sisters when they were living in that cottage. They were both happy to sit at home and spend the money Feyre earned whilst Feyre was the one who went into the dangerous woods and kept them fed and clothed. I also didn't love the romance in this one because it wasn't a romance. Nesta and Cassian fucked and were friends but there was hardly any romance. Another issue I have with this one was the lack of anything really happening. This was more a mental health journey than a fantasy action / adventure romance which isn't really what I was looking for from a series like this. I think this one might've been improved with a Rhys or Feyre POV or even a Mor POV so we could have at least seen more of the politics going on in the NC at the time and with Nesta's mental health journey / training being contained to the first 30-50% of the novel instead of the whole thing. I would have liked to see her being involved more in missions and making amends more because her hating on her sisters and Rhys for over 80% of the book was really getting old and she really did not have a leg to stand on so it was infuriating to read. At one point I was really only reading for the Feyre x Rhys crumbs.
Overall: As a series this is really average for me. Out of 5 books I only really liked 2 which is less than 50% so I really didn't understand the hype for this series which was really sad because I really wanted to like it. I will say the world building was fantastic. I think the world SJM created was done so well but unfortunately the plot or lack thereof in a few of these novels really bumps it down for me and the pacing novel to novel really sucks. I also would have been more invested if the books following the first four still had Feyre and Rhys as main characters. As it stands, I feel SJM has mostly sidelined them from a storyline perspective for future books. I would have enjoyed seeing more of their adventures that they spoke of at the end of ACOWAR before they started having kids.
As for the Fourth Wing vs ACOTAR debate .... FOURTH WING all the way! I am convinced that people only like acotar more because it came first. To me Fourth Wing has the better romance and overall books (it certainly had the better first novel). This could change as more books from Fourth Wing come out but as it stands, in my opinion, Fourth Wing has given us 2/2 really good books (rated 4+ stars) so far, and acotar 2/5 so y'all do the math lol.

“Rú Zhèng!” sect leader Wǔ screamed, her eyes filled with a fury of a snowstorm. “How dare you? For the minister of ceremony to disrespect a sacred sect this bluntly!”
Rú Zhèng starred in the abyss before her. Her robes, wide at the hemline and collar tightly hugging the woman’s neck, were giving her an impression of a lonely mountain. Tiny figurines of high-mountain birds were sitting on her silver hairpins and her face was so pale as the snow.
Sect leader Wǔ couldn’t look at this expressionless white sheet. “Does this mean nothing to you?! So insolent!”
Loud slap pierced the room, all the elders of Dòngchuān sect froze in place. A splash of blood stained the snow – Rú Zhèng’s cheek turned bright red. Regardless, Rú Zhèng bowed deeply. “This lowly minister will pass on the sect leader’s response to her majesty. Thank you for discussing this matter with me.” She turned in place and, followed by dozens of eyes, she left the main hall.
Outside the snow quickly covered her blush. She was slowly passing the buildings of Dòngchuān. Like a noble crane she was taking slow steps, her wide sleeves turned into wings by the wind. Only up close to her face, examining her eyes, one could see a hint of tears.
She was breaking.
She went through the sect’s gate and turned left, towards the mountain’s base. It wasn’t the time to leave the mountain yet – a small group of servants was waiting for her in the guest room. Her steps were turning into springs. She didn’t want to see them. They still didn’t dare to insult her directly but whispers and glances pained even more – like a precise needle could cause worse injuries than a punch.
This crane flew through the mountain until the snow made the air so dense, she couldn’t see a thing – only endless whiteness. She was truly just a part of nature, her soul just as blank and full of mourning.
She tripped. The coldness covered her, and the only thing she wished for was becoming one with it, like a snowflake that falls and fades, and not even a memory of it remains. Who would look for her? Who would cry for her?
“Hey, someone lies there?” a voice rapidly stopped her thoughts. A slender face full of beauty marks broke through the nothingness. A rough hand swiped down the frost from her chest. “Zhèng-jiě, what on earth are you doing?”
Rú Zhèng rubbed her eyes. Was it…?
“Come on, Zhèng-jiě,” the person helped her to stand. They hold her close. A warm sincere hug was something she hadn’t experienced for a long time, a faint blush bloomed on her cheeks.
“What are you doing here, cultivator Rú?” she asked, as they were strolling in an unknown to her direction.
“What am I doing here? Sweet idiot, you’re maybe an hour away from my sect. It would be surprising if I wasn’t here.”
“You have a point,” she murmured.
“And don’t address me so officially. Please, we’re family. And friends, hopefully.”
Rú Báiyàn was her cousin from the father’s side. Usually they were meeting under official circumstances. Truth be told, she wasn’t sure if they had ever talked like this, without formalities and prying eyes of others. Rú Zhèng was a bit uncomfortable with familiarity glazing her words, yet being called “Zhèng-jiě”... it had a certain… appeal. Warm and sweet appeal.
They entered a cave. It was lightened with candles and lanterns, and full of things of all kinds. Rú Zhèng sat on a blanket and covered herself with another one. While Rú Báiyàn was boiling the water, she inspected the space. The walls were painted in random patterns. Dragons, butterflies and clouds were flying above the mountains of real bamboo strips and empty wine jars. Some poems were dangling under the lanterns, and she noticed a bunch of colorful instruments. Among all that, some lonely pots, fans and shoes were wandering.
Rú Báiyàn noticed the movement of her eyes and started to explain: “the sect leader doesn’t like excessive drinking, so we created this place. I’m pretty sure she knows about it but isn’t evil enough to end it. I mean, it’s not without a benefit for her, the bonds among the disciples and masters of Dòngchuān were never this tight. Nothing brings people together like a good wine, right?”
“I suppose.” But what she could know about it?
Rú Báiyàn stretched her hands and gave her a cut cup filled with the water. She sat next to her. Without any shame, she rested on Rú Zhèng’s arm. The latter halted for a second, moved by the sudden touch. A drop of ink could change the color of a cup of water, a warm gesture could change the mood of a person. And so Rú Zhèng felt faint happiness.
This wasn’t good. After all, Rú Báiyàn was from the Rú family – from the people who abandoned her. Without their support, she lost everything to Dū Cuán, her right-hand man who she was supposed to trust. Even if they didn’t care for her, they should at least protect the honor of the family, but they ignored every humiliation. No one saw her as a part of the Rú clan anymore. She had no family.
Thoughts were painfully pulsating in her mind. Her skin was itching. If only she could shed it like a snake… but she couldn’t. Snakes were leaving their past life behind and just starting anew with a fresh form – she wasn’t seeking that. Maybe she was more like a squirrel who had changed her fur for the winter and now desperately tried to get the previous one back; yet she could only wait for the change in the world.
Her fingers wandered towards the fireplace. They were like… Ah, they weren’t like anything, she shouldn’t be… She should be… She should be here… Just a little bit further and… She dipped her fingertips in a flame and let go a sigh of relief. She became physical again.
Her hand was forcefully removed from the fire but she felt refreshed already. She took the hand back and glanced at Rú Báiyàn. “Sorry,” she said icily. There were no tables, so she put her empty cup on the floor. The blanket became a neat rectangle in her hands. She stood up with grace. “Thank you for trusting me with this place and your hospitality, tángmèi.”
Rú Báiyàn’s face was frozen in shock. The second she came back to her senses, she shouted: “Zhèng-jiě!”
Rú Zhèng felt silent. She was so confused.
“How could you…” Rú Báiyàn’s brows met in the middle, the flickering light of the fire made her look more aggravated than she really was. She caught Rú Zhèng’s arm again and then she said slowly, carefully articulating every syllable: “I want to help you.” Even though Rú Zhèng gave her a confused and angry look, she didn’t fight back, so the woman continued: “tell me, why should you bear the weight of Rú Sàizhuàn’s decisions? That old ungrateful bitch pushed you to a puddle of mud and expected you to stay servile. But you can pull her in, can’t you?”
“But they are…” Rú Zhèng bit her tongue. She was not a part of the Rú family, so she was not bonded by any duty. It was as if a wall in front of her was turned into rubble and she could see a rising sun again. A mass of flaming red rage which filled not only her view but also her soul.
She crouched, dragging Rú Báiyàn with her, and picked another charred stick. It moved so rapidly, as if gods were supporting her case and hand – a mere martial artist couldn’t avoid it. A scream filled the air. Never in her life Rú Zhèng was so free. Her wings grew again on her back – from a crippled crane she was reborn into a hawk.
“Please, forgive me” she said with no remorse in voice. “Your only sin is being of the Rú family, Yànyan, but it’s a sin nonetheless.”
Laughter exploded from Rú Báiyàn’s mouth and she couldn’t help joining in. Shivers were flaring up and dying out in her body. She felt so purified.
“Now,” Rú Báiyàn cut the laughter abruptly. “Let’s fry the rest of the pests, right?”

*SPOILERS FOR ACOTAR SERIES*
This is a bit of a rant post because I see WAY too much Elain hate in the fandom. I understand that some feel we don’t know Elain enough to form an opinion—and that’s totally reasonable. But many times I see people who swear their hate up and down for her and I can help but feel a good portion of it is internalized misogyny, especially with how she’s treated in comparison to other characters, specifically male characters. I’m going to do my best to break down many of the anti arguments that are used for Elain and why they simply don’t make sense.
“Elain is useless”
This is quite simply straight up not true. Sure, she wasn’t helpful in the first book, but she’s changed so much. She convinced Nesta to help Feyre and the IC in Mist & Fury, and welcomed Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel in, despite her obvious fear towards them. And let’s not forget in Wings & Ruin. She told the IC about the betrayal of the queens to Vassa, Koschei and his lake (and his mysterious box?), warned about the ravens, and most of all, she killed Hybern. Elain killed him. Not Nesta.
“Elain abandoned Nesta”
This is also obviously not true. Nesta was lashing out and acting toxic towards her, so in my eyes, Elain had every right to take a step back and focus on herself. It’s also mentioned in Frost and Starlight that Elain had attempted to visit Nesta in her new apartment, but was rebuffed, and also in Silver Flames Nesta had seen Elain walking about in Velaris and ignored it. It’s also important to note that we haven’t gotten Elain’s POV so we don’t know what other visions she may have gotten, and with that assessment it’s possible she knew it was the best decision for the time to take a step back from Nesta’s toxic behavior.
Tumblr media
“Elain should’ve planted vegetables instead of flowers”
It’s first important to acknowledge that the flower seeds were gifted to her by Feyre. Feyre, who had gotten them for Elain because she knew growing things and the act of gardening brought her job so she gifted her the seeds. She didn’t have to do that. And Elain certainly didn’t have to gift Feyre the paints either, but they were in poverty and doing whatever they could to find some form of joy. Speaking of, it wasn’t just the Archerons who were poor, just about their whole village was impoverished and starving. Nobody would be casually selling vegetable seeds in that condition, and certainly not at a price that Feyre could’ve afforded. Growing flowers is NOT the same as growing vegetables as well, and later on when Feyre was visiting her sisters, Elain mentioned wanting to start a vegetable garden once she learned more.
Tumblr media
“Elain doesn’t belong in the Night Court”
This argument has never made sense to me, mostly due to the fact that it stemmed from a dress that didn’t look good to her. By the point of Silver Flames, Elain has established herself filming in Velaris. She has a job, tending to and helping others around the city with their gardens, and has made friends with Nuala and Cerridwen. She isn’t going to just up and leave the Night Court simply because she doesn’t look good in a dress. Also worth mentioning that scene happened at the Court of Nightmares, a place NONE of the IC like, so I don’t understand why Elain’s discomfort is singled out here. Even before, she said herself that her home was at the Night Court and she would do whatever was within her power to protect it.
Tumblr media
“Elain treats Lucien terribly. She needs to reject the bond already”
I feel like people need to understand Elain’s POV in this situation. She was to be married to a guy she genuinely seemed to love, only to have it ripped away from her in an instant, have her body drastically altered without her consent, and to have a male she’s never seen or met before tell her that she is his mate. Of course she isn’t going to want to be with him right away. Once again, we don’t have Elain’s POV so we can’t know her complete thoughts, but it’s not impossible or crazy to think that Lucien most likely reminds her of the worst trauma and experience of her life. Regarding the bond, the talk of rejecting one was only ever discussed between Feyre and Rhysand. It’s not a stretch to think that Elain most likely isn’t even aware of the act of rejecting a mating bond, much less how to go about (this is really the only time it’s mentioned so it’s not like WE the readers are aware of how it happens). It’s important I feel, that we remember what Elain said—and that Lucien is not entitled to her time or her happiness simply because of a bond.
This was a bit longer than I had intended, but I hope it gets the point across. Elain has so much potential for her story arc, and I honestly can’t wait for her book to come out!!

Tales from the Frost

You were my Best Friend
Witless oaf, Minerva thinks. That he assumes flowers and a pathetic smile can even begin to address his mistakes. She sits on the park bench, radiating infinite poise and chill, and irritably wonders where this puts her, then. Because while he’s a fool who doesn’t deserve a second of her time, she’s the one waiting.
“Min--”
“Don’t. Only my friends can call me that,” she cuts him off.
The corner of Rainer’s mouth tugs back. He sheepishly hovers around her with a gap stretched taut between them, insurmountable and widening like a fissure. She narrows her eyes at him.
“Out with it. What did you come here to say?”
“...Ah. Well.” Rainer fidgets until the stems of his bouquet are bruised. “Well, Min.”
Minerva’s eyebrow twitches. She inhales and holds it in.
“We were friends, once,” he says quietly. His voice dwindles further, spiraling like a plane with a shot-off wing. “Best friends, even.”
“Were.”
“Were,” Rainer agrees. He looks at Minerva’s boots. “We were a lot of things.”
“And we’re not anymore,” Minerva enunciates.
“No. We’re not.”
Minerva doesn’t move. She barely even breathes. Over twenty years of her life have been spent doing damage control for Rainer’s impulsive, unthoughtful actions and now he’s here, talking about what they were before he slept with a terrorist and flaunted a bastard son in her face. She’s been so busy filling in for his inadequacies that she hasn’t processed it much. The hurt’s nearly as sharp as it was on the day she found out.
“You need to leave,” she tells him.
“I will.” Rainer breathes in deeply. “I will, but not before saying I’m sorry.”
“It’s too late.”
“I know, but I’m sorry.” Rainer glances up and meets her eyes. Her unflinching judgment. “I should have told you.”
“What? You should have told me that you were cheating on me?” Minerva scoffs. “It would have changed nothing.”
“Even if you don’t understand why I did it, you deserved to know. I shouldn’t have hid so much from you,” Rainer confesses. He pauses, wets his lip, and swallows before continuing. “It would have changed nothing but, maybe, it could have.”
Minerva rolls her eyes but beneath her fury is a bone deep exhaustion. She’s stood alone for so long and despite the hurt and betrayal, she remembers simpler times. Tainted, yes, but nostalgia, fondness, and yearning regardless.
“But you didn’t tell me. You didn’t choose me.” Minerva’s eyes flick to the earring dangling on Rainer’s ear. “And even now, you’re still warming the bed for someone long gone...Was it worth it, Rainer? Was love worth it?”
Rainer stands straighter.
“Love makes you come alive, like you’re full of fire and stars, free and finally whole,” he says. “And I want that for you, too. I really do.”
“What is this, pity?” Minerva murmurs. “Pity for an old crone?”
“No, it’s just--”  Rainer combs a hand through his hair. “It’s just, you were never going to get that from me, and I’m sorry! I’m sorry, and there’s not a day where I wish it didn’t all fall onto your shoulders, but maybe that burden -- maybe it shouldn’t have existed from the start. Maybe if we weren’t caught in systems that groomed and expected so much of us, then maybe, maybe we could have been...been.....”
“Been what? Friends?” Minerva says in disbelief. “Best friends? Us?”
Guilt and frustration grounds Rainer into momentary silence. He exhales hotly. “Yes, friends. We could’ve been normal friends! We could’ve been what we wanted to be instead of, oh, I don’t know. Arranged everything. Bullcrap.” Unfiltered honesty spills freely from Rainer as he speaks, anguish building toward a crescendo. “But Min, those systems are gone. Those systems are gone and now it's just us. Everyone is dead. Everyone is dead and I...”
Rainer swallows again. Both of them hear his words before he speaks them; the sentence completes in their heads.
“I can’t lose you too.”
Neither of them have anything to say after that and neither of them look away. Like two rangers locked in a quick draw duel, Rainer and Minerva remain frozen in each other’s presence, hurt, aching, and wanting. Minerva eventually breaks the standoff by tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear. She closes her eyes and breathes out.
“...Let’s try this again.”

Elriel Theories
ok,I started reading Elriel's theory to learn more about the other side of the story and maybe change my mind (it didn't succeed) but here they are so you can see them and give opinions
1 Azriel and Elain in Mist and Fury, Elaine who is addressed first of the brothers is Azriel and his dress is the same as the color of the siphons. Their first relationship is good and Feyre later says that if Elaine were to go to court tonight it would make sense for her and Azriel to get together
.2 It is always said that Azriel is the most handsome of the brothers in the same way that Elaine is the most beautiful of the Acheron(and the same way that Lucien is the most handsome of Beron's sons)
3 Elriel is the ying and yang
4 Azriel and Elain have always been the invisible ones within their group and are always silent and suffer in silence
5 Azriel is the one who offers to be with her after being transformed. (What happens here that every Elriel forgets is that Lucian and not Azriel was the one who asked Feyre to take Elain out into the open air, which will get her out of confinement)
6 Feyre is the 1st Elriel ship with the conversation with Rhysand (let's just forget a court of frost and starlight)
7 Azriel is the first to realize Elaine's powers
8 Elaine is very observant and Azriel is espionage, so they would make a good detective team
9 Elaine doesn't give gifts to Lucien but for Azriel she does
10 "Elaine's smile could illuminate Azriel's shadows. (The stronger the light, the weaker the shadow, so at least consider that Azriel's shadows are negative. I don't know why use a metaphor that weakens an essential characteristic of him.) It would be a good thing, or maybe I'm misunderstood, who knows?)
11 The shadows of Azriel defend Elaine, although they disappear if they see that she is in danger and attack. The shadows give privacy for Elain and Azriel to be together
12 Elain can have 2 bonds
13 The cauldron fell in love with Elain so he joins her with Lucian, since she is not going to accept her bond to keep her single for him
14 When Amarantha goes to kill Feyre, Rhysand screams, when Nesta was put in the cauldron Cassian screams, when Elain was put in the cauldron Azriel screams (I suppose Lucien also screamed and released his father's power for the first time doesn't count)
15 brothers have fetishes with their partners' necks (tamlin marking Feyre's neck, Ok, no, but don't forget it)
16 The cauldron always thought of Azriel as the first option for Elaine but when he saw that he was dying he chose the second option(Lucien)
17 Lucien couldn't make a connection with Elain using the bond, but Azriel understands her without the bond
19Elain has become good friends with Cerridwen and Nuala, who are very subordinate to Azriel
20 how Azriel gives his dagger to Elain and how he gives it to her and no one else. And how that dagger will be the one that breaks the bond between Elain and Lucien and how she murders King Hybern with that dagger
21 The last cover of Wings and Ruin as there are shadows, a dagger and a rose making reference between Elain and Azriel

books i’ve read in august
1. a court of thorns and roses by sarah j maas
this book was okay! honestly wasn’t that interesting until the last third of the book when the plot suddenly picked up and with feyre being under the mountain.
3.75 / 5 stars
2. a court of mist and fury by sarah j maas
so much better than the first book!! i loved it, there was a good ratio of plot to romance. it was interesting. not the greatest thing i’ve ever read but i had no issues with it.
4 / 5 stars
3. a court of wings and ruin by sarah j maas
think i may be one of the very few people who prefer thing book to acomaf? absolutely loved the plot with this book, so much more tense due to the war
4.25 / 5 stars
4. a court of frost and starlight by sarah j maas
i did not like this book. it was basically a fanfic of acowar? also it kept switching between first person and third person. which was driving me insane. the only good parts was that there was just a lot of fluffy found family content.
3 / 5 stars
5. a court of silver flames by sarah j maas
the sexual tension in this book >>> nesta and cassian as enemies to lovers was impeccable. my only issue with this book was that there was hardly any plot for the first half and so it got kinda boring
4.25 / 5 stars
6. book lovers by emily henry
least favourite emily henry book but it wasn’t a bad book? i related to nora a lot and it was just a good romance book. nothing too special
4 / 5 stars
7. sorcery of thorns by margaret robertson
it was a good book and the characters were great but i feel like i needed a lil bit more world building because i got slightly confused at times
3.75 / 5 stars
8. malibu rising by taylor jenkins reid
honestly not as good as tshoeh or daisy jones, but it was still amazing. i loved literally every character and got so invested. i love tjr’s writing
4.75 / 5 stars
9. the poppy war by r. f. kuang
this might be my favourite fantasy book. i loved it so much. i love every character - they’re all amazing. and the plot >>> i need to read the other books in this series asap
5 / 5 stars
10. forget my twice by carina taylor
i was given this ARC to review and it was great! just a regular rom-com book, nothing special about it but it was a good easy read
3.5 / 5 stars
11. love on the brain by ali hazelwood
this was a great enemies to lovers rom-com. personally one of my fav romance books - i especially loved the fact that the main character has dysautonomia as i have a chronic illness that causes me to faint a lot and i loved seeing the representation
4 / 5 stars
12. finding audrey by sophie kinsella
not a massive fan of this but i loved the depiction of anxiety, my main issue with it was that it slightly promotes the idea that mental illness can be cured by getting a boyfriend
2.5 / 5 stars
13. pride and prejudice by jane austen
i love this book so much. it will forever be a favourite of mine. mr darcy and elizabeth’s romance will always be the blueprint for enemies to lovers. it’s perfection.
5 / 5 stars

September 2022 Wrap-Up
Considering how busy I was in September with a work event, I was able to read a lot of books, mostly in the mornings before work and on my days off.
Let’s get started!
“A Court of Mist and Fury” by Sarah J. Maas - This is the second book in the ACOTAR series. I have to say, this book was better than the first book. The first book was great and this just topped it. The characters react in ways that make sense to them and I loved the new characters introduced through it. There are moments where I was laughing and others where I was actually sad. The ending chapters had me shocked. I was lucky enough that until my sister read this series and recommended I read it, I had no spoilers for it so I had no idea what to expect. I picked up the 3rd book and started reading as soon as I finished this one.
Started August 29th, finished September 4th - 5 stars
---------------
“A Court of Wings and Ruin” by Sarah J. Maas - This is the third book in the ACOTAR series. This book might be my favorite of the series. There is so much that goes on. I also love the way this book just increased the tension of what was going on in book 2 and didn’t hold back in any way. There is a legit war going on and it does not shy away from it. I was crying for characters I didn’t expect to be saddened for and that surprised me. I really enjoyed every moment of it.
Started September 4th, finished September 13th - 5 stars
---------------
“A Court of Frost and Starlight” by Sarah J. Maas - This is a short story between books 3 and 4 of the ACOTAR series. This book was perhaps the hardest one to get through despite it being significantly shorter than the others. My biggest issue was that it didn’t feel like a lot was going on other than filler for what everyone was up to. The most significant thing was Nesta’s adjustment and I found that so intriguing. You get a lot of information that is important before going into the next book as well. I really liked reading it in parts, but others I felt were kind of boring and uninteresting to me. Perhaps I just got used to the action moments in the previous books and this one was less action-packed and more slow. Overall I liked it, but it wasn’t my favorite.
Started September 14th, Finished September 20th - 3.5 stars
---------------
“Barbarian Lover” by Ruby Dixon - This is the third book in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. I love this series so much. It has moments that are funny and real worries for our characters. Now, this story was probably the weakest one for me so far simply because of the way the two interact. Kira acts like she doesn’t like Aehako despite being attracted to him and Aehako just knows that Kira is for him despite the fact they haven’t resonated with each other. She has a good reason to fight it, but at some point I was like “Girl, just tell him what is going on”. Plus I found that I knew that the whole thing would be solved by the end because of everything else I learned while reading this book and the previous 2. Overall, I liked this book but it wasn’t as good as the previous 2.
Started September 20th, Finished September 20th - 3.5 stars
---------------
“Barbarian Mine” by Ruby Dixon - This is the fourth book in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. I liked this book. I have a feeling though that it would be more impactful if we hadn’t been made 100% aware of what happened to Harlow in book 3 and been surprised by the first chapter of this book. We already had a clue in book 3 so we didn’t need a whole chapter there telling us what happened. I really like how we went back to the roots of the story and Rukh was a true barbarian rather than one who understood all that was going on in the cave. My biggest complaint was Harlow being worried that everyone would be mad at her and kick her out if she went back because she “abandoned” people when she was clearly taken against her will. It was a bit annoying. I did like how so much time passed and that it is made clear that despite Kira’s health issues being erased, Harlow’s previous health issues are still a fight in this alien world and can affect her. It wasn’t a be-all, end-all cure and I enjoyed that.
Started September 21st, Finished September 22nd - 4 stars
---------------
“The Walking Dead: Book Two” By Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard - This was a compilation of volumes 13-24. I found this so interesting and intriguing because things are getting more violent. I found that the group dynamic was completely different after finding shelter in the prison, but it really hit home how much they depended on each other in multiple ways. Rick went through a major shift from being the cop in the first volumes to having the burden placed on him in these volumes. You can see that it is taking it’s toll. I also like that they learn organically about how the bite doesn’t turn you, it just kills you and how everyone is infected and will turn when they die. It was an eye-opening moment for them and I really enjoyed that.
Started September 21st, Finished September 22nd - 5 stars
---------------
“The Fae King’s Curse” by Jamie Schlosser - This is the first book in the Between Dawn and Dusk series. This book had a very interesting premise that made me want to start reading it right away. In the Fae kingdoms, three witches cast a spell that made all the first born males of each kingdom blind until they find their fated mate, which requires eyesight typically. There is also an element where a year will pass in the Fae realm but only a day in the human realm. The two leads were likable, but I felt like it was kind of ridiculous in parts. I didn’t love this story, but I did meet the heroes of the next 2 books and I found both of them much more interesting so I’ll probably continue the series.
Started September 10th, Finished September 27th - 3 stars
---------------
“Crumbs” by Danie Stirling - This was a sweet story about a young witch with seer abilities and a young man wanting to become a musician. The world building was on point and the characters were likable, even when they did things that were annoying at times. I really loved watching them grow together and fall in love. I was worried that the ending would be sad, but I really enjoyed every moment of it. I would 100% read this again.
Started September 28th, Finished September 28th - 4.5 stars.

ok this isn't really top 5 related but like there's 5 books so hear me out.... rank the acotar books and why pls... i'm curious!
ohhhh anon... this is a spicy request lmao but OF COURSE
also, spoilers for the acotar series below the cut lol
mist and fury: where do i even begin. this book.... had me fucked up. i finished it in like... 4 days maybe? like when i was reading acotar i was like... why are people obsessed with the pairing in this book? tamlin is kinda mid, but oh well u know? but then this book happened and i could see the rhysand was her man. her TRUE man. the dots started to connect. like it's the shared trauma for me. the found family. the understanding of each other. the banter the PASSION just oh my god. plus the ending had me so fucked up that i almost yelled when it happened omg. and honestly? i was sick of seeing women in books go for the first man that they fall in love with. normalize changing your mind. normalize changing after a traumatic event. anyways, rhysand <3 (although, azriel has my heart tbh)
wings and ruin: i see wings and ruin as an extension of mist and fury. while i enjoyed this book a lot, mist and fury had feyre's vital character evolution and i think that i enjoyed reading about that character aspect more than the progression of the war, actually. i think that it's because i found the antagonist (hybern) to not have the most depth that it could've. although, the meeting of all the court high lords was SO engaging, i love those scenes with everyone just sitting there awkwardly as tamlin gets fucked up lmao.
silver flames: ok i was NOT the biggest nesta fan going into this book. like, i understood her but i didn't like her. i left this book liking her. the thing is, she's prickly and rude as fuck but for some reason, there's a part of me that greatly related to her struggles? i greatly prefer stories that focus on the character's journey over an overarching threat. i know that this was a controversial one but i actually really liked this book (i almost cried in certain parts). i also like cassian lmao he's funny as shit. also, this book was spicy. i remember doing double takes when i read this book lmaoooo nessian are absolutely feral
frost and starlight: just fluff and a fun time. nothing more to say here lol.
thorns and roses: this was a fun read. like i said before, i was confused that rhysand showed up acting like an asshole after everyone on the internet hailed him as THE book boyfriend. now i get it. i was like, ok she ends up with rhysand but she's with tamlin rn... this is going to end poorly, isn't it? and i was right LMAO. i'm also ranking this one last because i found the middle bulk of the book to be a little slow for me, but it was probably because i thought that tamlin was mid lmao. but, i think it might be because a lot of the foreshadowing went over my head, so idk. maybe I'll like it more after a second read.

Books that booktok convinced me to read:
Part 1
ACOTAR series edition
Please note I read the first few books a while ago and as such my opinions may be tainted and I may mention certain events in a book they did not take place in or in a different order
Will include ratings, my opinions and any other bs I feel like adding so enjoy!
A Court of Thorns and Roses
4/5
Feyre was the first female MC that didn't piss me off completely. Granted, before I found booktok I had been reading Wattpad stories but I really liked Feyre still although I was perturbed that her name began with "Fey" and the book was about Fae. Anyway... I stanned Nesta from book 1 page whatever page she was introduced. After Tamlin took her to the Spring Court (and I don't know if this is just my toxic side taking over but) I was hoping Feyre and Lucien would just get together. There's something about side characters that are just * chefs kiss *. I liked how everything made sense and by that I mean the names of characters, how they looked and acted. It was all just perfection to me. And while Amarantha was bad I can honestly say that if my sister were involved and I was her, I would have gone mad as well (not justifying, just acknowledging that there was reason). As for Rhys, loved him, but that was because I thought he was morally grey but Lucien remained my favourite.
All in all, an eye-opener to me that Faerie smut was the piece missing in my life. Loved the book, thought the plot was great and nothing pissed me off *that* much.
A Court of Mist and Fury
4/5
Loved the smut. Firstly.
Secondly, Mor is fantastic. She is just so stunning I can't. Amren was immediately my favourite character (AND SHE REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF EDNA MODE which is probably why I love her lmaoo). Cassian and Azriel are beautiful. Feyre is a bit self-righteous throughout the plot but whatever she's Fae now she can be. Unfortunately, I was so in love with the first book that i started looking up memes and things and so her and Rhys being mates was spoiled for me but loved it nonetheless. The Suriel is a baddie.
Rhys making Feyre HL doesn't sit right with me for reasons that will be explained in the ACOWAR review
A Court of Wings and Ruin
3/5
Feyre and Rhys began to piss me off. I can't put my finger on why, it's not them individually but their relationship is aggravating to me.
In the HL meeting when he said he made her high Lady bc he loves her, her powers have nothing to do with it. LIKE?? The nepotism is strong and she is useless. Literally a lesser fae in Velaris would have been more suited to the position. And then she thinks her word is law like girlie I would not take you seriously.
The Night Court is pretty embarrassing. I mean they can't control themselves in the meeting and attack almost everyone. Pls. Immature. If anything Kallias would have reason to attack and because Rhys actually did something that wasn't saying a few mean words to him.
Nesta is amazing as usual, I feel so sorry for her. Elain can choke.
Was a bit sad that Rhys had to live but anyway
And also what was the point of Amren losing her powers now she's just rude with nothing to back it up like ew
A Court of Frost and Starlight
3/5
The IC piss me off. Just a bit. But enough that I roll my eyes when Rhys talks.
Cassian is just a big heap of love. I've always loved him. I wish Elain would give Lucien a chance he's honestly so precious.
And yes, Feyre, having a child when you know war is breaking out is splendid timing it's not like you have eternity to make a baby. I understand she wanted a piece of Rhys blah blah but like im a bit tired of them.
A Court of Silver Flames
4/5
First of all, would just like to say:
NESTA = PERFECTION
no debate.
The IC can mind their own fucking business. Rhys and Feyre can shut up. I don't know who Elain thinks she is. Amren, literally just go ride Varian and keep your trap shut you have been meaningless since ACOWAR. I don't hate Mor, but she gives obnoxious vibes and I don't like how she treats Nesta.
Rhys is such an arrogant cunt.
Eris has my heart. He can literally rip me apart and I'd apologize.
I've always thought the Autumn Court males were hottest since book 1. There is just something about them that makes me wanna get on my knees.
I didn't like how Nesta didn't touch the stone on Ramiel or whatever it was called. But stan Gwyn and Emerie. Although I don't understand why people ship Em and Mor so much. Unless I'm not remembering something, Em called Mor beautiful or something once and they never properly interacted. Like I think lots of women are beautiful doesn't mean I'm in love with them?? However, I do think Emerie deserves better. Nesta deserves better than Cassian. And Gwyn deserves better than Azriel.
Cassian really disappointed me.
I know my views on characters in SF are explicitly related to how they treat Nesta and despite their being mates he was horrendous.
Always looking for a reason to be angry at her. Always agreeing with everyone's negative opinions on Nesta.
Mor saying she belongs in the CON was despicable and it made me dislike her completely. Like literally shut up. Especially since it's clear we don't know the entire story regarding what happened with Mor and her family and Eris. I'd love to know the full truth because despite "truth" being her power, I feel like she's hiding something on purpose for no other reason than she might look bad. At least that's how Eris made it seem. But really how reliable is he anyway.
In short, tons of questions unanswered that have me craving the next book, tons of characters I now hate. Nesta should never bow down to a bitch like Rhys and Feyre needs to take it down a notch. She is not all that.
Despite the characters pissing me off, I love the story and the plot and how it's written. I do hope the books still coming are in third person POV I like it much better than first person.
I do want more Elain content. She upset me so much when she said she remembers Feyre and Azriel going to save her and not Nesta. Like girl how can you throw the women who loves you more than anything and would die for you under the bus like that. But i feel like there's tons more to her that I can't wait to hear about.
