I was sad one night and wanted to watch something fun and colorful, so I tried Fionna and Cake and really liked it! Adopting Prismo as my surrogate blorbo he is such a pal (everyone's pal, for that matter)

I've been enjoying getting to explore some new fics, which is what this was inspired by (primarily this one), and then it went kinda off-the-rails and got experimental hahaha but that's okay, I was having fun!

my sirius & harry thought of the day:

harry kept that firebolt alive for all 137 years of his remaining life through sheer willpower and magical strength. he did not let a single twig of it die off. not only was he absolutely unhinged about taking care of it, not letting anyone near it after 5th year, but he also basically single-handedly reinvented the field of broom-crafting just so he could keep his godfather’s gift to him alive. he didn’t do anything with this skill, basically driving everywhere who knew him spare bc !!! ‘harry do u know what u just did? most brooms don’t last over 6-7 years, not even a fraction of that if used at the pace and frequency as u. if u could just—‘

and he just flat out shuts them up bc how does he tell them that the reason his firebolt is still alive is bc sirius’ love runs thru it and harry would die himself before he let it bc he can’t lose the last piece of sirius he has left. he cannot perform this miracle on any other broom, tho he can probably make the single best non-sirius-gifted broom that the WW has ever seen just bc of how extensive his knowledge is now

and the thing, right, is he doesn’t keep the firebolt locked up in some display like some artefact. sirius would’ve never wanted that. his dad would’ve hated it. brooms were meant to be flown. so fly, he does. wonderfully. it’s forever his primary broom and he puts it thru all the paces, keeping up with all sorts of newer, flashier, pro models w utter ease.

it’s like this: when he uses this firebolt, it feels like perhaps he has his godfather back for just a second. and harry is forever weak to that feeling.

unclear. last night i stayed up and finished a report worth 25% of my grade at about 5am, arrived on time for my 9am lecture, and spent about half of it zoned out while thinking about seventeen year old emilie agreste. and i was one of the most active participants in the class discussion

re: the term parasocial, specifically because it's come up in my notes a few times after I reblogged the post about dropout: I'm extremely guilty of this and should work on being better but "parasocial" on its own is a neutral term. It just serves to describe relationships where you know about someone but do not personally know them.

The issue is really that unhealthy aspect of it, which in my experience usually boils down to when people feel entitled to the responses of someone they know socially from someone with whom their relationship is only parasocial. It's feeling like someone you don't know is obligated to agree with you or validate you or, frankly, to acknowledge you exist. Parasocial relationships are inevitable unless you never hear of or see people without engaging with them socially. It's not bad to relate to or feel a connection to a celebrity especially if they share personal stuff; in fact it can be really positive! It is a problem when you expect them to have a specific response (or tbh any response) to you.

#i know this is a little bit 101 but like the problem with dropout is specifically that fans put it on an IMPOSSIBLE pedestal #and also have like...looked the other way over SO many things they've lambasted other shows (cr especially) for #like the fans are SO entitled in a way that yeah feels like a balloon that's gonna burst sooner rather than later #also. i think people forget that parasociality isn't just celebs but the fandom itself. #like imo toxic positivity/elevation of fanon within a fandom is often an unhealthily parasocial problem #a how dare you not think everything every fan does is perfect mentality

clocky and toby have an awkward fleeting crush on eachother, but nothing really comes with it. they think dating would ruin everything, and they have such a strong friendship. . . would be sad to ruin it. both prefer being friends

nina has a short crush on almost everyone who is nice to her. its really sad LOL... she's convinced they have a crush on her too, and fantasizes about them confessing to her. but it lasts like 2 weeks max and she moves on. she's very happy with friendships, she just has a REALLY distorted perception of romance and friendships and self worth. toby is the only one(besides jeff, obv) who knows nina had a crush on him, but again.. nothing came of it.

kate has a fascination with nina. nina doesnt even realize. but if ninas in the room, kate has her eyes glued to nina the entire fucking time just pondering... and its unsettling, especially with the mask. so nina thinks kate doesnt like her for a while, and doesnt develop that initial desperate crush she usually does(which is good for them both). i wouldnt really call what kate has a crush, i think... kate just hasnt met a girl like nina before, she's been surrounded by rough n tough men for almost 2 decades

BEN has a crush on Nina, but it was in the 'having a crush on your older brothers girlfriend' way. LMFAOOOOOO. OBVIOUSLY, nina would never reciprocate or encourage it bc he's a kid, but she thinks its funny and endearing in a 'awww ur so sweet :) youll find someone' way LMFAOOOOOO
