What if the Madrigals piled into a huge van and went to a mall?
Felix is the driver. He always brings along a bottle of water that Pepa always ends up drinking. He buys himself another one in the mall or begs Julieta for one. He likes to find new music to dance to or sheet music.
Alma sits beside Felix in the passenger seat. It's too hard on her knees to crawl into the back part of the van and she likes to be in a spot where she can see the whole family. She will usually meet an old friend for a meal or coffee, then shop with Julieta and Agustin when they get groceries. Everyone knows to meet them when the groceries are done to help load up the van because Julieta will send out a group text. This is the last thing they get done and they leave the city after.
Pepa sits behind Felix. She always forgets something and it's most often her water bottle, so she takes Felix's. She and Felix like to dance to Agustin's piano music if they see him playing in the mall. Felix will follow her around and carry her bags for her, even though she asks if he's sure he wants to do that. It makes him happy so she lets him. They'll help with the grocery shopping too.
Antonio sits beside Pepa and likes to bring along his stuffed jaguar because he isn't allowed to bring along any of his other animals. He has a system for who he spends time with and chooses a different person/group each time so that he can spend time with everyone. He always wants to visit the toy store and pet store, of course.
Julieta is on Antonio's other side and always brings along a large bag full of food, juice, water, and first aid supplies for the kids (and inevitably her husband).
Luisa sits behind Pepa. The far back seat is too tight for her to fit into and she wants to give the front bench to Antonio so he can sit with his mother. She likes to bring tea along for the ride and points out all of the farm animals in the fields.
Isabela sits beside Luisa. Isabela and Luisa usually end up hanging out together in the mall. They like to try on different clothes, check out the bookstore, and visit the gardening section.
Agustin's behind Julieta and beside Isabela. He almost always slams his finger in the door or hits his head getting into the van. Julieta and Agustin like to find a nice restaurant to have a meal together before they go shopping. Sometimes Agustin will play the mall piano for a little while.
Camilo sits in the far back seat behind Luisa. He's always got a prank or some other scheme planned for mall shenanigans. He usually drags Mirabel and/or Bruno into it. When he isn't planning schemes, he likes to visit the music store and Mirabel drags him to the craft store.
Mirabel sits beside Camilo and likes to bring one of her embroidery projects along for the long car ride. Camilo usually keeps distracting her with his plans so she doesn't get much done. She likes to stock up on her sewing supplies and likes the arts and craft store.
Bruno sits beside Mirabel and always has a huge coffee in his hand. Being outside of Casita is exhausting, never mind being in a huge mall. If he can get away from Camilo's plans, he likes to hang out with Dolores in the book store, music store, craft store, and pet store. He makes sure he's never alone in the mall.
Dolores sits beside Bruno and behind Agustin. It's usually the quietest corner of the van and she likes to watch outside the window as she listens to music through her headphones. If she isn't with Bruno, she likes to hang out with Luisa and Isabela.

So I rewatched the movie encanto, and I wondered something.
What would Bruno's kids be like?
Hear me out, Alma and Pedro gave birth to the past (Julieta, who heals past wounds), present (Pepa who can control the weather now), and future (Bruno who can see the future)
Julieta and Augustin gave birth to beauty (Isabella, who makes beautiful flowers and plants), brawn (Luisa who is stronger than ten men), and brains (Mirabel who solved the whole family issues)
Pepa and Félix gave birth to hear no evil (Dolores who hears everything), see no evil (Camilo who can change into anyone), and speak no evil (Antonio who can speak to animals and command them)
But what would Bruno's children be if he had any? What would their life be like in the encanto before and after Bruno leaves? Would he have triplets like he was with his sisters since everyone else is years apart? Who would they get along with? What do you think their powers would be? What would their relationship be with the members of the family? What would the villagers think of them?
I need to know what you guys think. Make your story for these three

I wanna do a collection of one shots about the Madrigal kids and their parents when they were all little - inspired by my hc that Isabela got herself tangled up in her vines CONSTANTLY when she was little because I need that in my life.
If any of you guys have any suggestions for chapters - like for any of the kiddos and their gifts or just funny moments within the family, let me know. I would be happy to do them :)

Imagine Camilo getting jealous when you start spending time with his family because you’re his best friend and he likes having you to himself...while having no idea you’re only doing it because you like him too.
Tumblr media
When your house had a fire The Madrigals were the first to offer to help. Party because they were the leaders of your town but also because you and Camilo were best friends. When you need a place to stay while your parents sorted everything out the Madrigals didn’t hesitate and so you temporarily moved into the famous Casita.
Camilo didn't like this for two reasons. 1. Being a part of a big family and a middle child it was hard to feel special but with you he felt like the most wonderful person in the world. You were so kind and positive, it always made him smile and he didn’t really want to share that with anyone else, he’d grown protective of you. 2. He had a pretty big crush on you which he was sure his family would sniff out the second they saw you together.
For these two reasons you never really hung out at Camilo’s, he’d always come to you instead but you were his best friend. When he heard the situation he didn’t even contemplate telling you no. He sorted it all with his family and helped you move in.
The Madrigals were very curious about you, they’d of course met you but they hadn’t been around you a lot so they were excited. So of course the second you sat down at the dinner table they all started grilling you, to find out more about you. Before promptly moving on to the more practical stuff. “Now we have one more thing to discuss” Abuela said “y/n’s accommodation”. Camilo paused “her accommodation? This is it!” he said gesturing to casita. Abuela nodded “yes but we haven’t chosen a room for her”. “Well she’ll be staying with me right?” Camilo asked, He thought it was a no-brainer but apparently not. "Y/n can’t stay with you! I know you're close but we don't want to encourage other things" his Abeula said and Camilo frowned "what do you think we do at hers every time I stay over?". His family all paused misinterpreting his meaning and Camilo rushed to explain he meant he stayed over in your every time he went over. "Yes well Isabela's room is big enough for two so y/n will stay with her. Your room is far too small" Abuela said dismissively and Camilo knew there was no arguing with her now. Camilo turned and looked at Isabela worried. His cousin could be horrible at the best of times, he was worried she'd be cruel to you. He tried to catch her eye but Isabela barely glanced at him and after dinner she rushed off with you before Camilo could say anything.
Your POV  You’d just finished the best meal of your life when Camilo’s cousin turned to you “so want me to show you to my room?”. You nodded “yes please” and Isabela led the way upstairs. "You don't have hay fever do you?" she asked turning to you. You shook your head "nope! I also have a really weak sense of smell". Isabela nodded "that's handy" and she pushed open her door. "Woah!" you cried "your room is beautiful". "Really?" she asked "I figured pink and flowers weren’t really your thing considering you’re constantly in dark colours". You smiled "hey I know I'm pretty monotone but I do love pink! It just doesn’t suit me as it does you. Regardless your room is lovely and the flowers...wow. do you have a favourite?". The easiest way to get into Isabela’s good book was to talk about flowers with her. Isabela nodded "It used to be roses but recently I've really been enjoying lillies". "Wow all good choices" you smiled and Isabela looked at you "what's your favourite?". You laughed "it sounds stupid but I really like cacti". Isabela laughed and you nodded "I know right! Crazy". "No I...come on” she said tugging you towards her window at the far side of the room. She threw back her curtains and smiled “ta-dah!”. On her window sill were a ton of baby cacti all potted neatly. "You have a whole cacti nursery!" you cried excited and Isabela smiled, pleased you got as excited as her over cacti. "I've only just started growing them but I'm still working out how to make them flower". You nodded "yeah cacti can be stubborn bastards, I was reading something about that the other day let me see if I can find it" and you dug into your boxes (that Luisa had very kindly brought up) to find a book. "I've read a lot of books on plants so I'm not sure if you'll have anything..." Isabela said frowning. "Ow it's not a book just my grandmother’s gardening notes, she was a great herbologist....here it is!". You read the passage before passing it to Isabela "have you tried altering the sodium levels in the soil?". Isabela flicked through the passage and shook her head "no I haven’t...and she’s given 3 other suggestions I’ve never even heard of, how did she learn all of this?". You shrugged "apparently it was her passion once all her kids were older and she was really good at it. One of those cases where she got into it late in life but still aced it. It's kind of reassuring knowing you don’t have to be perfect from a young age, you can always discover something new later". Isabela nodded "yeah that's a nice thought...can I borrow this? I want to see what else she worked out". You nodded "of course! I'm nowhere near as good as my grandmother but I do like gardening so if you want any help just let me know". Isabela smiled "I might take you up on that". She was beginning to like the sound of her new roommate.
The next morning   Camilo had hardly got any sleep last night and he waited anxiously for you at the top of the staircase. He hadn't heard any yelling from Isabela's room and Dolores said you’d been up talking till late but sounded happy. Camilo was nervous though and so he waited to see if you needed saving, he could always beg Mirabel or Dolores to share with you if his Abuela insisted on this stupid no sharing a room rule. Camilo was debating how to challenge her when Isabela's door opened and laughter escaped. Camilo frowned to see Isabela was the one beaming. You were telling a story that was apparently very amusing. "Morning Camilo" Isabela said when she saw him and you smiled "hey Camilo". "Hey...so how was being roommates?". "Great actually!" Isabela smiled "if only I could've had a sister like y/n, I've asked her to trade with Mirabel but she said no". "Because Mirabel is great and you know you love her really" you replied before spotting Camilo’s expression "are you okay?". He nodded "yeah I just remembered I left something in my room so I'll meet you downstairs". You both nodded and walked away leaving Camilo stunned. What on earth was going on? The bonding only continued. You and Camilo hung out all morning but come the afternoon he had chores so you stayed in the living room and did some school work. You were trying to solve a math equation when you heard the door go and Dolores rushed to get it. From the way she was laughing and how high her voice went you figured it was her boyfriend Mariano and he soon appeared proving you right. He said hello to you and you smiled back pleased Camilo’s sister was so happy however it wasn't meant to last. Pepa appeared not long after and told Dolores Mariano would have to go soon as she had to babysit Antonio. Apparently everyone would be out soon and Dolores was the only one free. Dolores tried arguing but Pepa wouldn’t budge and so Dolores sent Mariano away looking very sad. You noticed this and waited for Pepa to leave before going over. "Dolores can I speak to you for a moment?". She nodded "sure I'm stuck here after all". "I think I can help with that...see I'm planning on staying in all afternoon so what if I babysit Antonio for you?". Dolores paused "aww y/n I can’t ask you to do that! My mother would flip if she knew".'" I won't tell if you won’t" you smiled "I really don’t mind! I’ll be here anywhere so it seems cruel to make you miss out on a date with Mariano. I mean how often do you get time to just be with him?". Dolores nodded "good point...you're sure you don’t mind?". "Not a bit" you smiled "go, we'll be fine". Dolores grinned "thank you y/n you’re the best" and she hugged you before rushing out the door.
Camilo’s POV Camilo's day had been pretty good. He’d got his chores done early and so was making his way back home in a great mood. On his way he passed Dolores who told him "your best friend is amazing". Camilo of course knew this but wasn’t aware Dolores had such strong feelings for you. However before he could ask her what happened she’d passed him and so Camilo just carried on home.
Camilo heard laughter as soon as he walked inside and he followed the noises upstairs. Camilo walked into his brother's room to find you dressed as a cheetah. Atleast that's what he thought the dots on your face were supposed to be. It was actually very very cute. You appeared to be playing some animal version of hide and seek and were “hunting” Antonio when you spotted him.  "Camilo!" you said jumping and you blushed "hi". "Nice tail" he smiled "so I'm guessing you got stuck babysitting and Antonio wanted to play rainforest?". You nodded "yup but it was actually quite fun! Antonio's room is awesome". Camilo nodded "I get lost every time I come here". You went to reply when a mini cheetah (Antonio) leapt at you "I found you!" he cried and you laughed cushioning him as you fell so he didn’t get hurt. "I was meant to be stalking you remember!". "Yeah but you got distracted by Camilo" he said giving his brother a pointed look as if Camilo was disturbing a very important meeting or something. You smirked looking to Camilo "you're right Camilo did distract me! How rude of him". "Hey I just came to see if you were okay". "Well we are, so go!" Antonio cried "I was to play with y/n and you always get to play with her". You smiled "that is true Camilo" still going along with this. "Well what if I joined in?" Camilo asked. Antonio shook his head "no y/n is better than you, you're too loud". You snorted at the look on Camilo’s face but soon stepped in. "How about we let him play to be nice? I can teach Camilo to do better". Antonio sighed "fine but he’s on your team" and he rushed away. "Teams?" Camilo asked "so who's on Antonio's side?". "The leopard" you replied "so you better do better this time" and with a smile you dragged Camilo off into the rainforest. Camilo could honestly say that was the most fun game of rainforest he’d ever played and his brother seemed to agree. He practically had to drag Antonio away from you and promised you’d all play again soon. You had a big smile on your face and Camilo shook his head "I think he likes you more than me". You laughed "no I'm just the fun friend who’s visiting. He definitely loves his cool older brother the most". Camilo blushed remembering how you always made him feel like this and he smiled "well regardless one thing is for sure". "Ow yeah and what's that?" you asked. "We make adorable cheetahs" Camilo replied wiping a dot on your cheek and you burst out laughing making him smile even more. Your POV
After living with the Madrigals you began to notice some things...like how Luisa did a LOT. Of course all the Madrigals pitched in when their gift would be useful but a gift like super-strength was pretty in-demand and so Luisa was called on a lot. While you were just waking up she was already downstairs, scoffing down a quick breakfast and getting on with her chores. While you were taking a shower and getting ready she’d already been into town and solved a few crises’. When you and Camilo walked through town you heard countless people calling for her or asking Abuela if Luisa could help them tomorrow. You began to feel bad at how overworked Luisa was so you decided to try and help her by taking atleast one thing off her list.
Every day the donkey man would lose his flock. You’d have thought after many repeats of this he’d have learnt to keep a closer eye on them or just get a more secure field but no, it was easier to rely on Luisa so he didn’t. You thought it would be nice if Luisa didn’t have to do this one thing every day, maybe she could use the twenty minutes to relax, read a book or even just sit down and have a meal. So you began watching the donkeys to learn their routine and you spotted something interesting.
Luisa’s POV
Luisa was on a roll. She’d helped rebuild the school, moved some trees around and had done all her family chores and it was only 2 o’clock! If she kept it up she might be able to get some light exercise in before dinner but she was getting too excited. She had to just keep making her way through her tasks and not get ahead of herself. Sometimes the same task could take considerably longer depending on the day so she’d learnt not to get too pumped about any possible free time she might have. So Luisa put a break to the edge of her mind and made her way towards the donkey fields. They shouldn’t have wandered too far so if she could just catch them as quickly as possible...when she froze.
Down the mountain pass was a line of donkeys but they weren’t going away from the farm but towards it. Luisa frowned, utterly confused before she saw a figure at the front. It was you and the donkeys were all following you. Luisa watched as you led them all back to the farm before closing the latch firmly. Luisa ran up to you very confused. "How did you do that?" she asked and you jumped "Ow hey Luisa! I thought I’d try and pitch in with the chores and noticed you do this every day so wanted to see if I could help”. Luisa smiled “that’s so kind of you but seriously how did you get them all to just follow you like that”. You smiled “with these!” and you pulled some carrots out of your bag. “I started watching the donkeys and I noticed something, they really like carrots! Every morning they’d see Mr Hernandez drive by with his produce with the carrots on the very top of the pile. They really like them so they follow him but get lost because their attention spans aren’t that great and then you’d find them and the same thing would happen the next day but it doesn’t have to be this way! If we get Hernandez to choose a different route or just keep them on the stables until he’s passed it should solve the problem...or we could just make the lock more secure". Luisa paused "I...yeah they all sound good. Which one is best?". You shrugged "well a secure pen means they'll never get out if anything else distracts them so I'd vote that one". Luisa nodded "okay secure the pen...well I could carry large stones and put them around d it or dig a moat". "Or we could just put actual locks on the door?" you asked "with this one all they need to do is nudge it and it opens". Luisa nodded "locks, locks are good". You smiled "great, okay I'll go grab some in town and get them fitted". Luisa frowned “do you need any help?”. You shook your head “no i’ll be right back! You just sit here, enjoy the sun and make sure they don’t get back out”.
Luisa nodded “just sit here and enjoy the sun” she repeated to herself “that should be easy enough...right?
When you got back ten minutes later you found Luisa re-arranging the pen so all the water tanks were in the shade. “Luisa!” you cried “I told you to relax”. She froze and dropped the tank suddenly making the donkeys jump. “Sorry!” she apologised to them “I tried relaxing I did, i’m just not good at it! I don’t get what I’m supposed to do”. You smiled “here i’ll show you” and led her to a nice shade part of the field. You brought a chair and eased her into it. You lifted up her feet and got her some water and a random book you found. “Here” you said and Luisa took it from you “okay now what? What should I do to relax?”. You smiled “you’re already doing it!”. “I am?” she asked surprised and you laughed “yep and on your first try too! You’re a natural”. Luisa paused “so I just get to sit here and read?”. You nodded “or nap, or sing, or eat whatever you’d like to do”. Luisa paused “hmm it might be nice to close my eyes and enjoy the sun for a bit. I hurt my back the other week and this feels nice”. You smiled “then go right ahead! I’ll get the lock fitted and let you know when it’s done. Until then you just sit here”. Luisa nodded “okay” and closed her eyes.
That night you and Luisa came home together and she would not stop singing your praises. You brushed off the compliments but all of his siblings and cousins agreed, joining in. Except for one of them.
Mirabel Despite being the same age Camilo and Mirabel weren’t that close. They used to be when they were kids but after Mirabel’s ceremony there had been a divide between them. It wasn’t a purposeful divide but one that existed all the same. It’d gotten worse as they got into their teen years and at school they barely interacted. So when Camilo and you set off to watch a school football match one afternoon he didn’t even think to ask Mirabel who was sitting quietly reading. You however did "hey isn’t Mirabel coming? Our whole class will be there". "Ow I’m not sure..." Camilo answered honestly and you smiled "well why don’t we ask her?" and before Camilo could protest you’d walked over. Camilo had been looking forward to some quality alone time with you at the football match but it was too late now. He saw as you charmed Mirabel and she asked anxiously if you were sure. She looked over to Camilo to check and he couldn’t let her down so he nodded giving her the thumbs up. Mirabel smiled and agreed, you returned arm in arm with her and took Camilo’s other arm "she said yes so now I get two wonderful Madrigals!". Both Mirabel and Camilo blushed but you didn’t notice. You were already leading them out the door.
You had a pleasant walk down to the football pitch and got some good seats not too close but not too far away. You had been a hit with all the Madrigals so far and Mirabel was no exception. Camilo watched as you chatted to Mirabel as if you were old friends and she was soon laughing and grinning widely...a little too widely. Camilo had seen Mirabel like this before and it was always around pretty girls she liked. Now Camilo thought you were very pretty so he was keenly watching the two of you and thought Mirabel was acting more and more suspicious until suddenly she did it! Her go-to flirt which was to compliment the girl while twirling her hair. Camilo completely understood Mirabel’s infatuation with you but he wasn’t going to lose you. Game on cousin he thought and began competing for your attention.
“Hey y/n remember that time a few weeks ago when that dog ran onto the pitch and scored a goal?” Camilo called. You immediately turned to him with a big smile on your face. “Yeah that was the best match of the season!”. Mirabel grinned “I bet! What kind of dog was it?”. “Ahh you just had to be there” Camilo replied before you could respond and Mirabel frowned “what?”. “We also got those nachos that night, remember y/n?”. You nodded “yeah they were really good! I hope they’re here tonight”. “Ow you like nachos? I make the best nachos! My mom taught me the recipe and it’s amazing” Mirabel smiled. You turned to her excited “no way! You so have to teach me that recipe or you know just make it for me sometimes” you joked and Camilo almost gasped when you winked at her. “Hey Mirabel remember that time you gave everyone food poisoning because you forgot to cook the chicken properly?”. Mirabel paused and her smile dropped “that was like two years ago!”. “Yeah but remember how funny it was?” Camilo asked “the vomiting and the way your mom didn’t let you near the kitchen for months afterwards? Good times”. Mirabel frowned “well remember the time you pulled a prank on my dad and broke his leg?”. “What!” you cried spinning to Camilo who blushed “it wasn’t that bad...”. “It was in a cast for months!” Mirabel cried and you frowned “what happened?”. “It was an accident” Camilo tried but Mirabel cut him off “so my dad was coming upstairs when Camilo gets the idea to scare him. He hid and when my dad reached the top he transformed into a huge Abuela and yelled “”Agustin!””. Of course my dad screams and fell right down the stairs”. You winced “ouch that must’ve hurt”. Mirabel nodded “it did, even my mom couldn’t heal him fully. This happened only last year, didn’t Camilo tell you?”. Camilo glared “why didn’t you tell Y/n about the great food poisoning incident before offering her food?” Camilo shot back. Mirabel shook her head “so what anytime we discuss food I have to bring up that once I didn’t cook something properly? What kind of logic is that?”. “Good logic!” Camilo replied and Mirabel raised an eyebrow “are you sure?”.
"Okay!” you said suddenly standing up “I’m gonna go grab another drink, does anyone want anything?” you asked. Camilo and Mirabel answered at the same time “no!” before they realised and glared at one another. You stood up “okay, I'll be back in a sec” and you disappeared. The two Madrigals watched you walk away, big smiles until you disappeared. "What are you doing?" Mirabel asked turning to Camilo who raised an eyebrow "me? I’m not the one who hasn’t taken their eyes off y/n for the past hour". Mirabel blushed "I have no idea what you mean". "You like her!" Camilo cried and Mirabel went even redder "well I...y/n’s pretty amazing okay! Why did you never set the two of us? Way to hold out on a cousin". "Because I want y/n to be just my friend, nobody else’s" Camilo said before he could help it "I don’t want her dating someone else or hanging out with my family I want her all to myself and I know that's selfish but I..." when he realised Mirabel was laughing "what's so funny?". Mirabel smirked "we must have a genetic vulnerability to y/n because you’re doing the same thing as me! You like y/n too!" Camilo blushed "I...she’s my best friend". "Yeah who you want all to yourself all the time...that's just a bit too friendly Camilo". "Shut up" Camilo blushed as Mirabel laughed more "no wonder you were so mad at me flirting with her! How didn’t I see this before? You’re practically in love with her! Well don’t worry I'll bow out but you definitely owe me" Mirabel said and with a last laugh she left the game leaving the two of you alone like Camilo always planned but now he was a lot more nervous.
Of course the second the words left Mirabel’s mouth he knew they were true. The way he felt around you, how he couldn’t help but smile when he saw you, his desire to keep you totally for himself all pointed to the same thing, he’d just ignored it for so long because he was scared. What if you didn’t like him? Camilo was jolted out of his thoughts as you appeared "hey, where did Mirabel go?". "Ow she remembered she was supposed to do something important for Abuela so she rushed home". You frowned "aww that’s a shame" and Camilo couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. "Yeah guess you're stuck with me" he said smiling but you picked up on his tone and knew it wasn’t a joke. "I'm never stuck with you Camilo, you're my best friend. Why wouldn’t I want to spend time with you?". Camilo shrugged "just ignore me sorry I've just been...feeling a little insecure this week that’s all". You frowned and scooched closer "do you want to talk about? The thing that’s making you feel insecure?". Camilo paused and before he could help it he was blurting it out "I like you". As soon as the words left his mouth Camilo was horrified and his eyes widened in terror “I have to go!” he declared.
He just ran for it. Panic seized him and he chose the flight response. However you weren’t letting him off that easily. You followed him and quickly caught up to him “Camilo! You can just take off after saying something like that”. Camilo sighed “I know i’m sorry...I just really didn’t want to do this”. “Do what?” you asked and he sighed “this, wondering what you’re gonna say...it honestly more nervewracking than my gift ceremony”. You frowned “well I’m sorry you feel so stressed but you know you can tell me anything and you don’t have to be scared of my reaction right? I’ll always be here for you Camilo, nothing can ruin our friendship”.
That one word told Camilo all he needed to know. You just wanted to be friends. He tried not to let the disappointment show on his face and nodded “thanks y/n...that’s reassuring”. You could tell he was still upset so you carried on quickly. “Now can you expand on what you said earlier because I like you too Camilo and if you meant it in the way I’m hoping you did then I’d love to date you”. Camilo started “pardon?”. You chuckled “I like you Camilo Madrigal and have for a while, was it really not obvious? Why do you think I was trying so hard with your family? I wanted them to like me! I know how close you are with them so I figured if they didn’t like me that would blow any chance I had with you”. Camilo laughed at the irony “this whole week I’ve been stressed because I thought you liked my family better than me”. You smiled “really? When the whole time I was doing it precisely because I like you”. Camilo blushed “wow I’m an idiot”. “No you’re not” you said taking his hand “I didn’t realise how you felt or that I’d been leaving you out. I’m sorry”. Camilo shook his head “it’s not your fault, I was being overprotective and sensitive...you really like me?”. You laughed “of course I do! Now how about we ditch this sports thing and go hang out just the two of us? No other family members in sight”. Camilo blushed “that sounds perfect” and he offered you his arm. Together you walked away into the bright afternoon.

sleep pile with bruno and his nieces and nephews!
Thank you for the request 🥺 Somehow this turned out to be over 1,000 words! Here’s the AO3 link!
...
Duerme bien
“But we should—“
“Leave him there. Good idea.”
“Not what I was going to say!”
“Whaddya mean? We’re practically twins! We finish each otherrr’s…”
“Like I’d ever fall for that.”
“Hey. What’re you guys just, standing there for?”
Mirabel and Camilo startle at the voice behind them.
“Luisa! Keep your voice down, okay,” Mirabel hisses. “It’s Tío Bruno.”
The tall young woman crosses the courtyard and gazes in the direction her sister has indicated with puckered lips. Her powerful body is immediately tense, ready to spring forward and pluck their tío out of whatever situation he’s landed in. The instant she sees him, though, she gives a low little laugh.
“Oh, he’s sleeping.”
“Yeah. On the floor. Just. Dead to the world, right there.” Camilo, heaping on the obvious statements.
“Which is why we should move him to the couch!”
“He looks… comfortable?” Luisa shifts from one foot to the other. “Haven’t you seen this before?” The younger kids shake their heads. “He used to do it a lot. Before he, uh, left. I remember seeing him asleep on the floor, or like, in a corner somewhere. Mamá said that as long as he wasn’t in danger, wasn’t going to fall or get stepped on or anything, it was okay to let him be. Said he needed the rest.”
She doesn’t mention the part where she’d plunk down in front of Bruno, a doll and stuffed animal in tow, or sometimes blocks. Or that she’d sit with him until he woke up (once or twice prodding him awake herself). Then her tío would blink at her through those ever sleepless eyes, never upset with her, not even if she roused him sooner than he’d wanted. Just a crooked smile and a bleary but tender, “Buenas, Luisita.”
Camilo is gesturing at the man’s form in the center of the living room. “See? I was right. Also, wow, fu—ay! Wh—“
“Shh. I still think we should move him.” Mirabel’s brow is furrowed.
“…What if he wakes up?”
“Yeah. And anyway, he’s probably too heavy for us n–ow! Stop pinching me, Mirabel!”
“He’s not!” Mirabel says, while Luisa crosses her arms, biceps bulging. “And I won’t, because you keep being an—“
“Let him stay there.”
All three of them jump in spite of the sound of a well-practiced whisper beside them. Turning their heads in unison, they see Dolores peeking around the threshold at their passed-out uncle.
“He’s still lighter than you, cabeza gorda.” She adds, humming, lest she squander the opportunity to defend Bruno and jab back at her brother, who simply shrugs, even as he fixes her with a too-wide smirk.
Looking back at Mirabel, he says, “Our majority and our seniority reign!”
Mirabel is familiar enough with their mothers’ and Bruno’s banter as triplets to know it’s hopeless to argue that Camilo being two months and one week older than her totally does not count as seniority. Still, the words chafe.
“Well, unfortunately for you, primo, brains beat age,” she counters. Smiling at her own private triumph. “You guys, come on! Dolores, don’t worry, we won’t wake him.”
“Oh. No, it’s not that–“
“¡Permiso!”
As if on cue, the quiet, piping voice of the youngest Madrigal sends the four bigger bodies shuffling. They watch the boy’s curly head bob toward them—the rest of him is nearly obscured by the thick woolen blanket he’s hugging to his torso—and as he weaves through and on into the room.
Antonio had been the first to stumble upon Bruno like this, after consulting the rats over his whereabouts (“I need to find your mamá,” is how he framed it). It was seeing his tío fast asleep on the floor that made the boy shelve his pursuit of story time in favor of the next most logical thing.
Sure, the kid may have gotten distracted by his toucan friend along the way, but he’s back now! And once he reaches his destination he promptly arranges the blanket in a pile next to Bruno, plopping down on his side and snuggling his cheek against the man’s pudgy belly.
The sight makes Dolores and Mirabel grin and Luisa’s lower lip quiver.
“Looks like Toñito’s found a middle way.” Camilo arches an eyebrow.
No one is at all fazed when Mirabel darts away, skirt fluttering. Nor when they hear a few muffled thumps somewhere above them, followed by the sound of her shushing herself. Within moments she’s at the living room entrance again, heaving blankets and pillows at the others (Casita had to have helped with the load), and bounding ahead, lightly, with hers. She motions c’mon just as she’s starting to lay out her blanket in order to curl around her little primo, who wiggles his fingers at her.
“His tummy keeps making noises,” Antonio whispers, stifling a sleepy giggle.
Mirabel’s mouth forms into an o-shape. To her right, she catches a glimpse of Luisa settling on her quilt above Bruno’s head. “Maybe it’s better not to lie on it, hombrecito…”
“It’s okay,” Dolores says with an unconscious tilt of her head, from where she’s making a spot for herself. “Tío ate a little over an hour ago. He’s just slow to digest.” A satisfied Antonio mushes his whole face into Bruno’s soft stomach.
“Hey, save some room for your big brother.”
The teenager has shape-shifted into a… smaller version of himself—a bit smaller than Antonio, even. Nudging in between Dolores and their tío, he steals the former’s pillow so he can roll onto it, and rests his head opposite his brother’s. After a second or two of mild contemplation, he pulls an expression that reads not bad and gives an exaggerated yawn.
Pepa and Félix’s eldest shakes her head. Then her eyes flick off to the left… barely catching the shadow moving past the room.
The last things Dolores sees before she lies down beside Bruno are Luisa curved in an arc over him, body completely slumped and a gentle smile playing on her lips; and Mirabel rubbing circles into Antonio’s back as he drifts off, trying to fight the same fate…
In due time, the air turns fragrant with the scent of various wildflowers. Isabela slips into the room, a rolled blanket in the crook of her elbow, and conjures crowns for each of her family members. (No outrageous blooms, though she considers making an exception for Camilo.) When she’s finished putting the final touches on Bruno’s clovers, she claims the space by her youngest sister.
“Duerme bien,” she murmurs, letting her forehead rest against the already slumbering girl’s shoulder.
Everything falls silent.
Maybe he would have moved earlier. Coughed, or something. But, oh, these kids…
Bruno allows one eye to open a crack, then the other. Gingerly, he extracts his rather stiff arm out from under Mirabel, giving it the tiniest stretch and twist before placing his hand on Antonio’s head.
He smiles, and closes his eyes once more.

👑⚔️💙Warrior Princess Luisa💙⚔️👑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐦Giving her a full body armour is tempting but I opt to give her only a few armour pieces since she's already super strong. I made sure that her design really fits her title as the warrior Princess.

Fic rec!
What went on behind the scenes of the movie Encanto? Follow each character through their most important scenes as well as flashback from Mirabel's ceremony and memorable moments of their childhood.
Despite the description that made me think it was going to be a ghost story, it is nothing of the sort! The author is very skilled at getting into the head of each member of the family and add additional explanation about why characters where in some scenes in the movie and what hapenned behind the scenes.
A must read! No OCs, only canon.

Inspired by a TV Show
Ok so this idea was originally inspired by @glendybluebird and her Encanto Empire AU. I just loved her character designs and the idea of a Royalty AU with the cast of Encanto when it hit me! What if it was a Regency AU instead? And what if it was based on Bridgerton?! 🤯
Ok so in this AU the Madrigals aren’t quite royalty but they are prominent members of the ton. Very close with the crown. Maybe a Dukedom, I’m not sure yet.
Anyway, the story is a mix between conflicts in the movie and the drama from the show. Isabela plays a part similar to Edwina and Daphne, Dolores plays Penelope, Mirabel and Camilo are Eloise and Benedict, Luisa is Kate, and Abuela is basically Lady Danbury with a hint of Violet Bridgerton. Mariano is the Prince, with a role similar to Colin and his Grandmother is Queen Charlotte. (See where I’m going with this?)
Alma and Queen Carlotta Guzman are old friends and determined to see their families united. So, when the three eldest granddaughters of the Madrigal household, finally come of age, Queen Carlotta has her pick of the perfect suitor for her son and declares Isabela, the Diamond of the Season. With the two of them being long term friends, everything appears to be going perfectly. But nothing is as it seems.
Ever since Dolores was young, she new that her best friend Prince Mariano Guzman was the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, he seems smitten with her cousin and their abuela’s are determined to see them together. Despite being a wise and lovely young woman with a talent for writing and music, Dolores is often overlooked in favor of her older cousin. Compared to Isabela’s popularity with the ton, her perfect poise, and beautiful flowers, Dolores fears that she will always be in her cousin’s shadow. However, being a wall flower does have its advantages and Dolores is keeping a powerful secret.
Isabela Madrigal has always done her best to be the perfect young lady and to please her Abuela. However, she longs for far more freedom than marriage to the crown could give her. She’d much rather explore and travel the world, go horseback riding and cultivate new and exotic plants than reside in the palace, throwing balls, making pretty flower arrangements and popping out babies left and right.
Although she is the younger sibling Luisa is very protective of her family and feels it is her duty to ensure their safety, security, and security within the community. She is strong, smart, intimidating and well read, often emulating their fierce and equally protective Abuela. She will do anything for her family often at her own expense and she can usually be found helping people either within the family or on their vast estate. She does not have many friends amongst the ton nor suitors so she focuses all her energy on vetting the people trying to get close to them. However, under the surface, she longs to finally let down her walls someday, to share her burdens and interests, and finally truly relax.
Meanwhile, Camilo and Mirabel, as the younger spectators of this spectacle, contemplate what they desire out of life, outside of romance, and try to solve the mystery of the ton’s unknown gossip writer. Much like Benedict and Eloise, Camilo and Mirabel are more interested in broader pursuits. Camilo would like to be a performer and work in a theater. While, Mirabel would like to start her own Modiste Shop. I’m also thinking of aging Antonio up about 5 years because I want to give him plot relevance but I’m not sure what that will be yet. 🤔
I’d for a story like this to come to life someday but this is all for now.

somebody flirts with luisa
"I...think you have the wrong person."
People don't flirt with Luisa. That is a fact that she learned quickly when she hit the age where she started looking at her classmates. People wanted pretty, wanted feminine, not her with her rough hands and ability to lift them over her head.
It's moments like that where Luisa is deeply jealous of Isabela. Even when she was unhappy and with Mariano, people flocked to her and her beauty and treated her like a princess. People flock to her less now, but there are still admirers, eager to take the opportunity now that Isabela is happily single.
Except this one, holding out flowers.
"I don't, actually," she says. She's pretty and feminine with soft blue ribbons in her hair. She's nothing like Luisa is. "I think you're extremely beautiful."
And something in Luisa melts at that.

So, a few months ago I was listening to "Google sings We don't talk about" which later inspired me to write reaction fic that wasn't exactly finished
I remember about it, so... That's just a random dialogue heavy craziness.
Original Song link
Mirabel blinked from the bright flash. A second before she was coloring with Antonio and now she was in a strange room with a strange black...paper? (or whatever it was) and a couch.
"Okay, what's going on?" Camilo winced, looking around.
"I was working and... Uh... Just got here?" Luisa spread her arms unsurely as she bit her lip.
Mirabel looked at everyone. The whole third generation except Antonio was here with Tío Bruno, who was knocking on the wooden table. Mirabel sighed, knowing that ot was extremely normal for him.
"But really..." Isabela sighed, "What's going on?"
"Oh, well, hello." They all starled at the unfamiliar voice.
"Okay, and who are you?" Camilo crossed his arms.
"Ah, nobody." They shrugged indifferently. "So, you're going to react to a song"
Luisa raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Mirabel looked around. "It doesn't make any sense. Also, are you crying?"
"Ah, that's normal, don't worry." The person threw their head back in their hands. "You just have to listen to a song. Basically, 'We don't talk about Bruno' was translated in google translate many times and it became crazy."
Dolores squeaked. "Goo.. Gogl what?"
"Oh!" Bruno smiled, "I saw it in a vision once. It's a robot that translates stuff."
Five grandkids blinked at Bruno with faces like "What the hell are you talking about?"
Mirabel sighed, fixing her glasses. "Okay, so... We'll listen to some random human being, and react to a song?"
Bruno smiled awkwardly. "Seems like completely sane behaviour for me"
Isabela rolled her eyes. "Tío, we all know that sane is the antonym to our family."
Dolores nodded, obviously agreeing with this statement.
The six of them spread out on the sofa, staring at the monitor, waiting for the song to start.
"Emma's hot barista, no no, no"

"Who is Emma?" Isabela raised her eyebrow.

"Emma's hot barista."

Mirabel looked thoughtfully. "Well, it's Tía's part..."

Luisa scratched her hands. Do you offer to ask her?

"Call the wedding (call the wedding)"

"I think she's getting married." Camilo smirked.

"I'm about to finish. No cloud, no CEO (no, no cloud no CEO)"

Bruno asked nervously, holding his hands together. "Uh, what is the CEO?" According to everyone's confused looks, he understood that no one actually knows.

"Ryan enters with a mischievous smile."
"Hala!"
"Are you sharing this, Cory?"

"Okay, who's all those people?" Camilo asked, tilting his head.

"I'm sorry, my heart, it's over!"

"Oh, sad." Bruno shrugged indifferently.

"'Santa' burgundy said"

"Who are all those people?" Dolores squinted, whispering as she desperately tried to understand what the hell was going on.

"It's like 'We don't talk about Bruno', but you're actually don't talk about Bruno." Mirabel pointed out, fixing her glasses.

"As he puts in"
"Overflowing brainholes."
"Grandma, take a nap."

"I feel like dad just wanted to get rid of Abuela." Camilo smirked, crossing his arms.

"Male hurricane"

Luisa sighed. "Okay, apparently Tía's hurricane can now create men."

Dolores let out a laugh. "That's how Camilo was born."

Camilo smiled, nugging her. "I probably should be offended, but being created in a hurricane sounds cool!"

"Happy day, but whatever..."
"We're not talking 'bout brunching, no, no, no."
"We're not talking 'bout brunching"

"Me, forgetting about the existence of lunch again be like." Luisa propped up her head.

Mirabel sighed. "Okay, that's definitely canon."

"Does it mean that Luisa was the one who sang?" Camilo asked, crossing his arms. "You better not, as it will mean that I wasn't created in a hurricane."

"Hey! Began to fear life and Bruno fell asleep."

"Wow, we finally remembered about Bruno." Isabela starled as the song finally mentioned her Tío.

"But I thought it's not going to talk about me?" Bruno sighed.

"I can always hear him tweet and tweet."

"Tweet?" Camilo raised an eyebrow.

Bruno waved his hand. "Oh, it's also something from the future. Hard to explain."

"When the sound of sand hits the wall,"

"Maniacal laughter"

"Uh... are you alright?" Isabela pursed her lips, and everyone stared at Dolores.

Dolores looked away nervously.

"He is a minor terrorist."

Bruno put his arms into pockets. "Wow, rude."

"Grandma and the family are always noisy."

Dolores sighed, leaning back on the sofa. "I have no words to describe it better."

"Oh, cmon, it's not that bad." Isabela rolled her eyes.

"I hear everything. And this family is the loudest in the whole Encanto."

"War irritates our emotions. You know."

"It's a two-meter-shaped figure with a mouse on it."

Bruno pursed his lips. "I'm going to assume that this is about someone else. I mean, I don't even have mice. And the only two-meter-tall person I know is Luisa."

"I'm not. A bit shorter than this." Luisa shrugged, pointing this out.

"When you write your name, everything goes wrong!"

Camilo raised his head. "Okay, so I won't write my name."

Mirabel rolled her eyes. "And you're going to use this as an excuse not to write exams, are you not?"

Camilo put his hand on his chest dramatically. "How could you assume something like that?"

"He definitely would," Dolores nodded.

"Yes, he has a dream about you and... congratulates you for crying."

"Uh, congratulations?" Bruno said it unsurely, clapping his hands. "You can have... Okay, I don't really have any prize"

"Emma's hot barista, no, no, no"
"Emma's hot barista"

"And Emma is back." Mirabel sighed.

“Tell me my fish will die.”

“Why would you even ask for this?” Isabela looked confused.

“Yes, I'm dead.”

Wait, how is it related?” Luisa asked.

“Ah, it's nothing unusual." Bruno shrugged. “Typical Wednesday”

“My appendix hurts like no other!”

Mirabel tilted her head. “Maybe you should go to Mami."

“Her hair is messy! See, it's really messy.”

Mirabel crossed her arms. “I feel insulted.”

Camilo smirked. “Sorry, prima. Not our fault.”

“Well, at least I'm brushing them instead of shapeshifting.”

Luisa laughed. "Tia've gone so crazy trying to brush him when we lost our gifts."

“Literacy with the help of teachers”

“Tell me my thirst for life”

“Growing plants and causing chaos,” Dolores reminded.

"Obviously,” Isabela gave her a smug expression.

“I will stay in covenant and repent.”

“Excuse me?” Isabela rolled her eyes.
Mirabel sighed. "It's literally impossible"

“Tell me my skills are better in connection to Winnie the Pooh.”

Luisa shook her head. “Now we have some yellow bear.” She clasped her palms together. “At this point, we can create a list with all those random people.”

“At least marijuana.”

Mirabel's eyes widened. “It's Abuela's line.”

A wave of awkward laughter spread across the room.

Dolores sighed. “I'm not even surprised."

“I thinks.” he is the man of my dream"

“At least something is normal,” Mirabel exhaled.

“I'm busy. I have other interests.”

“Forget it.” Mirabel whispered before Dolores hissed at her.

"I'm my own person.”

“Hello CC.”

“Uh, what kind of name is it?" Camilo gave a skeptical look at the screen.

Bruno smiled agilely. “Oh, it's a child from FNAF”

Luisa sighed. "You realize that it doesn't make anything clearer for us, right?”

“I don't like you.”

“Bunny”

“What?” Isabela spoke. “How does it even relate to this mess?”

Luisa muttered. “Why are you even surprised? I completely lost it on the fourth line.”

“Yes, chocolate mountain.”

“Okay, now it's just a set of random words,” Camilo said, crossing his arms.

“That's all I know about Bruno.”

“What a great amount of information!" Mirabel rolled her eyes sarcastically.

“Wait, you have a chocolate mountain?” Camilo looked at his Tio, interested. “Can I have it as a prize for crying?”

Bruno shrugged. “Never heard about this before, sorry, kid.”

“Give me the truth and all honesty, Bruno.”

“Isabela, your girlfriend's here!”

Isabela smiled as she put her hands on her sides. “I like this line way more than 'Isabela, your boyfriend's here.”

Mirabel hit the table suddenly. “I get it! Emma is your girlfriend.”

She let out a laugh. "Well, they called her 'hot'”

“Time to dump her.”

“Well, those were fast relationships,” Dolores spoke, tilting her head.

Isabela huffed in annoyance. “Cmon, give me at least some time.”

(repeating the song)

WHERE IS IT

Dolores winced at the sudden screaming.

“In our Bruno show”

Do you mean where he congrats us for crying?” Luisa asked, shaking her hand.

“And gives us a chocolate mountain,” Camilo added.

“Why are you talking about Bruno?”

Bruno smirked. “The fun part is that almost no one talked about me. Especially compared to the original.”

“Is there a way to hear it?” Luisa asked, interested.

“Weren't you there when we singed it?” Isabela gave her a puzzled look.

“Uh, yes, but I was mostly having a mental breakdown over losing my gift.” She reminded, scratching her hands.

“Bruno doesn't call”

“Considering that he was in the walls when we sang it, he really doesn't call to anyone,” Dolores reminded.

“I never should give birth to Bruno.”

Bruno pursed his lips. “Ouch-”

“What a great line to finish." Isabela scoffed.

“I mean, I really shouldn't give birth to my uncle...” Mirabel shrugged awkwardly.

Encantober 2023 Day 9: Time
To say Julieta was a busy person was an understatement. Between healing an entire village and raising three girls, she has her hands full. It felt like she did not have time to do anything she wanted to do. While all the Madrigals felt that way, Julieta has been the one for forty-five years of her life to be the village’s doctor that she felt that was all she was meant to do. On some days, she would exhaust herself to burnout.
Julieta and Pepa talked to each other about how she was feeling about how the village was so reliant on her. She mentioned how she wished she could just take a day off of healing the village and just spend the entire day with her husband and daughters. She wished she had the time to have a fun day with them.
“It’s okay, hermana; I feel the same way too. I just wish I didn’t have to force myself to let all my negative emotions out during one time of the day, and just have a day to spend time with the children too,” Pepa admitted.
The sisters hugged each other on the couch and cried. Their husbands, who were in the living room together, noticed them from across the room. They looked at each other, since they heard enough of the conversation that they wanted to do something about it.
“What do you think we should plan for them and the kids?” Agustin asked.
“Maybe we could do two separate things tomorrow? So each of us can have time with our wives and kids?” Felix suggested.
“That sounds like a good idea, but what should we do?”
“Maybe we could just go into town together tomorrow and split up once we get to town square? That should be simple enough.”
Agustin agreed and he and Felix made their way to the courtyard. They explained to their wives that they overheard their conversation and wanted to do something special with them and the children just to give them some time off from helping the village.
“You really want to do that?” Julieta asked.
“Si, we don’t like seeing you so overworked,” Agustin replied.
“So we thought we could go into the town together with the kids tomorrow and split up once we got to the town square so we could do our own thing with our own kids,” Felix explained.
The sisters smiled and hugged their husbands as tightly as they could. That was probably the best idea they had since marrying them! Not only would they get to spend time with their husbands and children, but they could do so separately since they were always together every hour of every day. They could bond with their children a lot more; a privilege they wished they had more often.
“We’ll let the kids know once they get home from school and the village,” Pepa said.
“Do you think we could go to the park at lunchtime and have a picnic together before going our separate ways in the afternoon?” Julieta asked.
“I would love that!” Agustin replied.
The couples hugged once more and kissed each other on the lips before Julieta made her way to the kitchen to prepare dinner and Pepa went upstairs to take a nap before dinner was ready. Felix went upstairs to snuggle with his wife and Agustin decided to go into the kitchen to check up on Julieta.
-----------------------------------------
The next day was a sunny Saturday morning, and the Madrigal family woke up bright and early to have breakfast together before their day in the town together. The children were just as excited as their parents were to have a whole day with just their family. It seemed like the only time they got to spend any time with their parents was at dinnertime or bedtime since they were all so busy.
Once everyone got ready and did their  jobs for the morning, the family met up at the park at lunchtime like they promised they would to each other. Pepa and Felix brought the blanket for them to sit on, and Julieta and Agustin brought the basket with the food. Everyone helped set up the blanket and the food and sat down together to serve themselves.
“So, what made you decide to do this?” Isabela asked as she grabbed an empanada for her plate.
“We just thought that… we never really have time to spend together as a family so we decided to spend some time with our children today,” Julieta explained.
“I’m still happy we got to do this. I felt the same way for a long time,” Mirabel mentioned.
“So did I,” Camilo chimed in as he stuffed his face.
“I was thinking that we could head over to the ice cream shop first, and Pepa, you could stay here and have fun with the kids, and we could switch,” Julieta suggested.
“That sounds like a great idea!” Pepa replied.
Once everyone was finished with lunch, Julieta’s branch of the family cleaned their part of the picnic and made their way to the ice cream shop. Pepa’s branch of the family stayed behind and cleaned the rest of the picnic. Once Julieta, Agustin, Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel left, Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio made their way to the playground equipment and Pepa and Felix followed behind them.
Antonio began to climb on the equipment and Camilo followed. Dolores, Pepa, and Felix kept herself near the ladder so they could help Antonio climb up and Camilo could be there supervising him.
“Mami! Watch me go down the slide!” Antonio exclaimed as he made his way down the slide and Pepa caught him once he got to the bottom.
Antonio laughed in his mother’s arms as she carried him over her shoulders and laughed with him. She spun her youngest child around until they got dizzy and fell on the ground laughing some more. Camilo joined them and tackled his mother and brother to the ground and laughed with them. Dolores and Felix helped them up when they were finished and they hugged each other before Camilo broke the laughter.
“I hope we get to do this again sometime,” he pointed out.
“I hope so too. I just hope we could have the time because of how busy we are,” Pepa replied.
“We’ll make time, don’t worry. I know it took some convincing for us to do this, but if Alma agreed for us to do this, she’ll agree again some other time,” Felix explained.
--------------------------------------
At the village’s ice cream shop, Juileta and Agustin sat down with their daughters at a table outside with their ice cream as they started eating.
“So, how has your week been, Mirabel? How is school going?” Julieta asked.
“School has been going alright; I mean, Geometry has been pretty difficult recently, but I’m trying to find tutoring sessions once a week after school,” Mirabel explained.
“One of us could help you if you want,” Luisa mentioned.
“Gracias, Luisa, but I’m not too sure if you remember much from when you were my age. I would just rather go to my teacher for extra help.”
“I get it, Mira.”
“Hey, Isabela, since you decided not to marry Mariano and let Dolores date him, how has life been after the breakup?” Agustin asked.
“Life has been so much better. I’ve been taking more time to grow my plants and I have been much calmer since,” Isabela explained.
“That’s great. I’m happy to see my daughters improving in their lives,” Julieta pointed out.
The cool-colored branch of the family continued talking and eating their ice cream before throwing their garbage out and making their way back to the park to meet up with the warm-colored branch. They walked back to the park to see Pepa, Felix, Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio by the playground equipment, playing with each other.
“Hola, Pepa! We’re ready to switch if you’re ready to,” Julieta said.
“Gracias, Julieta. How has your time at the ice cream shop been?” Pepa asked.
“It was wonderful; we caught up on so much with each other and it felt so relaxing.”
“I’m so happy you had fun. We had fun too. We spent the whole time on the playground equipment and we were laughing the entire time.”
Before they could switch their locations, their children hugged their parents as tightly as they could. Julieta, Pepa, Agustin, and Felix hugged their children back and stayed in the hug for as long as they could. They did not want the hug to end.
“I wish we had more of this time together,” Isabela mentioned. The rest of the children agreed.
“We’ll have this time together again soon,” Julieta said.

Late Entry to Week 2 of @encanto-extended-edition
“Luisa’s visibly colossal build and herculean strength was enough to convince the newcomers that Doña Alma was not at all exaggerating about her family’s superhuman abilities. What had surprised Lorenzo was the meek demeanor that Luisa displayed when she was resting. When he had offered her a plate of katsudon on the first day of her adding the second floor to their new house, she had smiled at him with such sweetness that Lorenzo wanted nothing more in his life than to know her.”

It has been a HOT MINUTE since the last time I wrote for this fandom and here I am, making a comeback with a one shot that is quite literally pure hurt. Someone needs to take Luisa Madrigal away from me because she is honestly the sweetest angel and all I ever seem to do when I write for her is hurt her.
That being said, I hope you like this little one shot!
Read here or over on AO3
[Summary: Julieta is concerned when Luisa goes on her first proper date and with good reason too. When her worst fears come to light and the whole date is nothing but a nightmare, there is only one thing on her mind. Her little girl. Can she help Luisa to see that, regardless of what anybody else says or thinks, she is beautiful in her own way?]
----------
"Ouch! Isa!"
"Well, if you kept still like I told you then it wouldn't have happened!"
"I don't even know why I need to wear all this."
Putting the lid to her mascara pan back on once she'd applied another coat to her hermana's upper lashes, Isa set it down on her dressing table before taking a slight step back from Luisa and bringing her hands to rest on her hips. "You and Mira are so annoying when it comes to wearing makeup. Sometimes, I ask myself how the two of you are my hermanitas," She rolled her eyes with a groan, taking hold of the chair her sister was sitting on and turning it so she could see herself in the mirror. "See? You spent all day wrangling burras and moving houses and no one would ever know thanks to the magic of makeup. You're going to thank me for this, truly."
"Don't hold your breath…" Luisa muttered.
Isabela chose to ignore that comment and instead moved to stand behind her, gently pulling the end of the red ribbon holding her hair in place so her curls came tumbling down her back. "Okay, now we need to work out what we're going to do about your hair," She said as she looked at her through the mirror, bringing her hands through her curls to remove the tangles. "We could straighten it, we could braid it, we could put it up again…"
"We could leave it as it is…"
"Oh, you are so not fun! Even Toñito lets me style his hair."
"You bribe the kid with galletas," Luisa reminded her. "He would be your slave for a week for the right price."
"Ooo…" Isabela thought for a moment, smiling to herself. "I never thought about that."
Luisa berated herself inwardly for putting such an idea in her head. "If tía Pepa asks, I had no part in this."
"Noted," Isabela laughed. "So, what are we going to do with your hair?"
"Isa, I really don't mind what you do with it." Luisa sighed, shaking her head as she played with her hands.
Sensing something wasn't quite right with her hermanita, Isabela stopped messing with her hair for a moment and her brows knitted together as she moved to crouch down beside the chair. "Lu, do you not want to go to the baile with Emiliano anymore?" She raised an eyebrow at her when she looked her way after a few seconds. "You…you don't sound excited about it. If you don't want to go, I can tell mamá and I'm sure she'll be able…"
"No, I want to go," Luisa replied in a quiet voice. "I…I just don't know what to do or what to expect because I never imagined something like this would happen. I'm not the sort of chica that gets asked out to dances, Isa."
"What do you mean?" Isa asked, confused.
"I'm not beautiful like you. I don’t have ten hombres all longing for my attention at any one time, and I’m not bold like Lolita. I just pretend to be when I have no other choice,” Luisa admitted, losing her gaze and staring at her hands as they continued to wring together in her lap. “I see other chicas around town and while I love my gift – I really love it – I sometimes wish that I could be and look more like them because I just stand out looking like this. I want to go tonight, but I worry that people are going to think I don’t belong there and I’m going to look like un idiota. I like Emiliano too. I like him a lot and I…I don’t want him feeling embarrassed.”
Sighing under her breath, Isabela reached up and laid a hand over hers in her lap and waited for her to look at her again. “Lu, you are muy hermosa and I’m not just saying that because you’re my hermanita and I have to. You don’t have to worry about looking like other chicas either, honestamente. If everybody looked the same, I think things would be so boring and plain. You do stand out, I agree, but you shouldn’t feel bad about it. You are asombrosa and I wish I had even half the talent you do. As for Emiliano, do you actually believe he would have asked you to go with him to the dance tonight if he thought that you were just going to embarrass him?”
“I guess not…”
“He sees how special you are. You just need to be able to see that for yourself, hermana.”
“You sound like mamá.” Luisa chuckled, shaking her head.
“Yeah, I have spent ventidós años with her,” Isabela smirked. “I may have picked up a couple of things.”
Luisa gave her a smile and squeezed her hand. “Gracias, sis.”
“De nada,” Isabela replied. “Now, I think we might be done with both the hair and the makeup if you want to leave your hair the way it is, but we need to look for something for you to wear. Have you picked something?”
“I couldn’t decide, so I thought it would be better to wait for you.” Luisa told her.
“Good choice,” Isabela chuckled before she got to her feet and pulled her hermanita up from the chair, taking her by the arm so she could start to lead her from the room. “I want you to at least try to have some fun later on. You don’t want to spend the whole night worrying about what people are thinking because it’ll ruin it all.”
Luisa hummed her response. “Okay, I’ll do my best.”
“Good. If anyone steps out of line though, you tell me and I’ll deal with them.” Isabela nudged her playfully.
“I will,” Luisa grinned. “You can be sure of that…”
----------
“Are the girls still upstairs?” Agustín asked as he entered the kitchen to see his wife and daughter drinking tea.
“Yep, Isa said something about wanting to help Lu with her makeup,” Mirabel nodded while setting her teacup down on the table, carding a hand through her curls. “I bet she’s holding her hostage with those stupid vines.”
“Ay Mira,” Julieta chuckled. “You make it sound like she’s torturing her.”
Mirabel blinked at her mother for a moment. “Is she not? I know that would be my idea of torture…”
Julieta shook her head, smiling at her daughter when she went back to drinking her tea, and when her esposo pulled out the chair next to her at the table she poured him a cup and handed it to him. “I don’t think it will be too much longer now, they went up almost an hour ago,” She told him as he added a sugar cube and some milk to his tea, sighing and placing a hand on his knee under the table when he took a sip and looked at her. “I keep having these moments where I feel worried about her. I want her to have fun at the baile tonight with her amigas because it doesn’t happen much, but I know what she’s like and I know she’s going to be anxious.”
“I know what you mean, amor, but she won’t be there alone and I’m sure Emiliano will help her.” He soothed.
“Mmm…”
“Que? Do you not think so?”
It took her a minute to decide whether she should say what was on her mind, but she eventually turned in her chair so she was facing him. “I just…Emiliano has never taken an interest in her before and he’s never shown her any attention. I don’t even think he’s spoken to her that much, so him suddenly asking her out to a dance makes little sense to me. I haven’t said anything to her because it would just put bad thoughts in her head and I don’t want that, but I also don’t want to see her get hurt. He might just like her the way she likes him, I do see that, but there could be another side to it and that’s what scares me. I…I don’t know what I should think.”
“Corazón, it makes sense for you to be worried about her because you’re her mamá and she’s never been on a date before,” He pointed out. “I remember you were like this before you met Mariano, we both were, but then he turned out to be a caballero and even though things didn’t work out between him and Isa they did between him and Lolita. I love how much you love our hijas and want to protect them and stop them getting hurt, but you usually tend to worry and wear yourself out and then there turns out to be nothing to really worry about.”
Unable to argue with him about that, she gave him a silent nod in response.
“You won’t have to worry about this stuff with me, mamá, because I won’t be courting anyone.” Mira told her.
“Oh, won’t you?” Julieta fought to keep from smirking. “Julio is going to be muy decepcionada then.”
“Mamá!”
“Julio?”
“Pá…”
“Miraboo, who is this Julio?”
Rubbing her hands on her skirt when they began to sweat as she looked at her parents, Mirabel let out a deep sigh of relief when she heard footsteps approaching la cocina and had an excuse to turn around on her chair. Her mouth dropped open the moment her hermanas entered the room. It would have been an understatement to say Luisa looked beautiful. In the dress she wore to her quinceañera, her hair down and some light makeup on her face, she looked maravillosa and even she had to admit – for once – that Isa had done an amazing job. “Oh my gosh, you look great!” She laughed, standing from her chair and running over there to give her a hug.
“You, uh…” Luisa felt her cheeks heat up. “You don’t think it’s too much?”
“Nope.” Mirabel shook her head while taking her arms from around her.
“I am a genius.” Isa teased, twirling in place which made both her parents and hermanitas chuckle.
Moving her chair back a little so she could leave her husband at the table and make her way over to her hijas, Julieta laid a hand on Luisa’s arm when she reached them and gave her a smile when she looked at her. “You still look as beautiful in that vestido as you did at your quinceañera, mi princesa,” She told her gently. “Make sure you try and have fun while you’re at the dance, okay? Don’t worry about what anybody else might think.”
“I promised Isa I’ll do my best to.” Luisa replied.
“Mhm, and I promised her I would break Emiliano’s nose if she needs me to.” Isabela spoke up.
Glancing over her shoulder at her eldest hija, Julieta gave her a look. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”
“Yes, of course, but if it does then count me in too.” Agustín said from the table.
“And me! I’m not being left out.” Mirabel crossed her arms.
Julieta turned to her husband again and tutted. “Ay Agustín, some role model for them you are.”
Rubbing at her arm, Luisa looked at the little clock on the wall before looking at her mother again at noticing the time. “I…I should probably go,” She said. “I told Emiliano I would meet him and the others down at the panadería because it would be simpler. He, uhm, he seemed a little intimidated at the thought of coming here.”
“Oh, what a caballero…” Mirabel muttered which earned her an elbow to the ribs from Isa.
“Do you need your pá or someone to walk you?” Julieta raised an eyebrow at her.
Luisa shook her head, leaning down to kiss her cheek. “It’s only down the road. I know the way, Mamá.”
“Just be careful, okay? And you can come home any time you like.” Julieta reminded her.
“I know,” Luisa nodded as she squeezed her hand before heading for the door to la cocina. “Buenos noches.”
Julieta and the others said the same back before Isa walked over to the table and sat down with a sigh.
“Mira’s right,” She said. “He asks her to the dance but he can’t be bothered enough to come and get her?”
“I can understand him being intimidated at the thought of coming here, honestamente,” Julieta admitted with a shrug. “Your papá used to sweat through his shirt on the days he came here to see me when we were courting. I swear, you lied to me once or twice about not feeling well because you didn’t want to have to see mi mamá.”
He shook his head and sipped at his tea. “It was the thought of seeing your mamá that made me unwell.”
“Really, Pá, Abuela scared you that much?” Mirabel laughed.
“Your abuela scares everyone.” He teased.
“True.”
“True.”
“True.”
“Mamá, do you think Lu will be all right tonight?” Isabela asked.
“I hope so, mi vida,” Julieta nodded with a glance at the doorway that led to the courtyard. “I hope so…”
----------
Curled up on the settee in the sitting room with a book, another cup of tea cooling on the table next to her, Julieta sighed as she tried and failed once again to get lost in it. Since her daughter left for the dance, she had been doing all she could to keep her mind occupied so as not to fret too much, but nothing had really worked. La cocina had been cleaned three times, all her arepas and bunuelos for tomorrow were made and stored away and now she wanted to just relax and wait for Luisa to come home, but her thoughts just wouldn’t stop racing.
Gus thought she was being worried unnecessarily, she knew, but she couldn’t say she agreed with him.
Her daughter, while she liked to be independent and conducted herself in such a cool and calm manner day to day, had always been such a sensitive girl and being accepted by those around her meant far more to her than she let on. It all started when she got her gift and slowly started to look and act less like the other children in town. Her amigas would push her away because they were worried she would hurt them or damage their toys. In time, they stopped asking her to play with them all together and her childhood – despite being a part of a familia as large as theirs – was such a lonely one. It still made her heart ache when she thought about it, truly.
Although she and Gus told her countless times how beautiful and special she was while she was growing up, it was never lost on her that she stood out and their words did little to help with the judgement she received. No one ever said anything negative to her face – they knew they would get an earful about it should they dare do such a thing – but they made remarks behind her back which she heard on a number of occasions. Often, the remarks were about her height or her build or her ‘freakish’ ability to lift things no other child could. Whether it was intentional or not, they singled her out and almost made her loathe herself and even now it angered her.
Her baby, though she was far from the tiny baby she once was, was nothing short of perfect in her eyes.
Her happiness meant more to her than she could ever imagine and that was why she encouraged her to attend the baile tonight, but ever since she found out that her date was Emiliano Lopez she had wanted nothing more than to take it all back. He was a handsome man, there was no disputing that, and Lu had liked him for quite some time which was why she was so thrilled when he asked her to go with him to the dance, but he always seemed to love himself a little too much for her liking and for that reason alone she wasn’t really fond of him. Her daughter was twenty though, a grown adult, and who was she to tell her who she could and couldn’t like?
Her mamá tried to do that her when she was about her age and she genuinely couldn’t have hated it more.
It was time for her to back away a little, she knew, but it was really the last thing she wanted to do.
“Interesting page? You have been reading the same one for about ten minutes.”
Her husband’s voice pulled her from her thoughts and she marked her place in her book, glancing up at him, before he pushed away from the doorframe he was leaning against and ventured into the sitting room. He sat down in the space next to her and she reached over to set her book down on the table next to her tea, letting him wrap an arm securely around her before she tucked her legs underneath her and cuddled against his chest. Her eyes closed for a second when he buried his lips in her curls, her hand coming to settle upon his knee as she hummed under her breath. “I keep telling myself not to worry about her, but something doesn’t feel right.”
“She’ll be home soon,” He reminded her. “I think she said the baile ends at ten. Only twenty minutes.”
“You think I’m being estúpido, don’t you?”
“No, I could never think that about you. I just think you’re a concerned mamá who wants the best for her hija and I love you for that. Honestamente though, I think we’d have heard by now if something had gone wrong.”
She made a sound of agreement. “Good point. I think maybe I need some tea. It normally helps.”
“I can make it,” He assured her. “You come with me. It might keep you from thinking for a couple minutes.”
She rolled her eyes at him in a teasing manner before he took his arm from around her and stood, holding his hand out to her and waiting for her to do the same. Once she’d taken his hand and laced her fingers with his, he began to lead her out of the sitting room and that was when they were met by Dolores. She wasn’t entirely certain what it was, but there was something in the way their sobrina was looking at them that made her heart sink. “I sent Mira down to the hall because I…I thought it was a better idea than sending Isa,” She told them. “Um…it sounded like the whole thing was a prank. Emiliano lost a bet and he had to take Luisa to the dance.”
Julieta didn’t know whether to burst into tears or scold her husband, telling him that she told him so, but she doubted that either of those things would do them or their little girl any good and so she chose to do neither. “Do…uhm…” She was unable to keep her voice from trembling with emotion. “Do you know where they are?”
Dolores listened for a moment and heard Mirabel remind Luisa they were nearly home and their mamá would know what to do. Looking at her tía once again, she hummed. “Nearly home. A couple minutes away, I’d say.”
Julieta turned to her esposo, releasing his hand so she could run her own down his arm. “Amor, could you go and wait outside for them to get home? I doubt she’ll want to talk about it, but it might make her feel better if one of us is there waiting. I’ll make her something warm to drink and then try to get her to open up about it.”
He nodded, not needing her to ask him twice, and stooped to kiss her on the cheek before walking away from her and Dolores and making his way out into the front garden. No sooner had he reached the doorstep did he see his daughters coming up the road, Luisa with her head down and Mirabel with an arm around her, and he suddenly felt this blazing anger take hold. He wanted to storm out into the dark night, looking in every public house for Emiliano until he found him, and then pummel the lad to within an inch of his life for what he had done to his daughter. He made her a laughing stock and humiliated her and the thought alone broke his heart.
“Lu…” He laid a hand on her arm when she and Mirabel reached him, his voice soft.
“I just want to go to bed,” She shook her head, not even looking him in the eye. “Buenos noches, Pa.”
She moved around him then and entered the house in silence, heading for the stairs and completely refusing to stop or even acknowledge her hermana was there when they met at the top. She just went into her room and slammed the door behind her, telling Isa everything she needed to know without words, and Gus was forced to grab her when she charged down the stairs and out into the garden. “It won’t do any good, Princesa, it’ll only make things worse.” He had to use all the strength he could muster to keep her from wrestling her way out of his hold, smoothing a hand over her hair when she eventually gave in and turned around to look at him again.
“I…what happened?” She demanded, the rage unmistakable in her eyes.
“I can only repeat what Lolita has told me and your mamá which is that this was nothing but a stupid broma,” He muttered, watching his girls look at each other for a second before they turned their attention back to him. “Emiliano apparently lost a bet with an amigo of his and his ‘punishment’ was to take Lu to the dance tonight. I don’t know what led to him telling her or what happened after that, but your mamá is going to sit with her.”
Isabela nodded. “And why am I not breaking every bone in his body right now, exactly?”
“I think your mother has enough to worry about at the minute with Lu without having to worry about where you are at the same time,” He explained. “Believe me though, I feel the exact same and he’ll do his best not to bump into me in town if he knows what’s good for him. I should have listened to your mamá. She was right.”
Mirabel blinked at him. “Well yeah, she kinda always is.”
“Like the time she told you not to go into that campo to get flowers for her on your anniversary.” Isabela said.
“And that time she told you not to lean on the railing.”
“And that time she said not to go into la cocina because she just mopped the floor and it was slippery.”
“All right, I get it! Your mother is always right and I was un idiota,” He replied. “But that’s not important.”
“No,” Isa agreed, shaking her head. “Lu is what matters.”
“But what can we do?” Mirabel asked.
Gus sighed. “Nothing for the momento. She needs to start talking about what happened before anyone can do anything to help her and if there is one person capable of getting her to open up about this, it is your mamá.”
Funnily enough, neither girl could disagree with him.
----------
Julieta had to use her hip to open the door to her hija’s room, what with having a cup of tea in one hand and a arepa on a plate in the other, and the sight she was met with broke her heart. Her beautiful dress and shoes were in a sorry state in the corner of the room, clearly where she had launched them, the necklace and bracelet Isabela lent her next to them, and she was curled up in a ball on the bed with her back to her. In spite of not being able to see her face, her quiet gasps and the way her shoulders heaved every couple seconds told her she was crying and she sighed under her breath as she walked across the bedroom and set the cup and plate down.
Her little girl refused to so much as turn over to look at her and she had no doubt she knew she was there, so she just got onto the bed and laid down behind her. Running her hand down her arm, she kissed the back of her head through her crazy curls and heard her breath hitch. “Mi bebé…” Her voice was softer than a whisper.
“I thought he liked me, Mamá, I really did,” Luisa managed to whimper through her tears, tightening her hold of the little teddy in her hand. “He was such a caballero earlier on and so nice to me, but then he…he took me for a walk and…and he kissed me and that was when his amigos came. All of them were laughing and Angelo told him he’d been punished enough and he was allowed to drop the act. He never even said anything to me, he just left with them. I should have known though, Mamá, no hombre would ever really want a girl like me. Hombres like girls like Isa and Dolores, girls who are beautiful and popular, and I am neither of those things.”
Julieta, try as she might, was unable to keep the tears from dancing down her cheeks as she hid her face in her curls. Her sweet girl – her baby – had been made to go through such an ordeal tonight without a single soul in her corner. Her heart had been torn out and well and truly stamped on and to say the thought of what she had to go through made her feel sick would have been putting it lightly. She was worthy of so much more, she really was, and the fact that she couldn’t even see that for herself thanks to the comments of other people truly angered her. In her eyes, she was beyond perfect and she couldn’t work out why other people couldn’t see that.
“I promise you, querida, one day you are going to meet someone who loves you for exactly who you are.” Was her quiet response as she held her close, stroking errant dark curls back behind her ear while she spoke to her.
“Mamá…”
“I…”
“Mamá, look at me!” It was then that Luisa turned around at long last, her chest heaving from her outburst.
“I am looking at you, Luisa,” Julieta comforted, palming the tears from her cheeks. “Do you know what I see?”
“Ruined makeup?” Luisa muttered.
Julieta chuckled under her breath at her remark. “No, what I see is the most beautiful young woman who has the purest heart of anyone I have ever known. You are so patient and kind and compassionate and you always make me so proud to be your Mamá. I just wish you could see yourself the way I do because then you would be able to see just how special you are. If Emiliano couldn’t see that for himself then he is the idiota in all this, not you, because he has no idea how wonderful you are. Honestamente though, he’s not the kind of hombre I want for you anyway. He’s too in love with himself to actually love anyone else and I don’t want that for you.”
Luisa nodded. “I think I just liked the idea of being wanted. Of being the sort of girl hombres noticed.”
“You don’t need to be noticed by all hombres,” Julieta smiled. “You only need to be noticed by one right one.”
“You really think something like that will happen for me, Mamá?” Luisa raised an eyebrow at her, sceptical.
“I guarantee it,” Julieta leaned in to give her a kiss on the forehead. “It may not happen right away, you might have to wait a little bit, but when you meet him you’ll be in no doubt. You won’t even have to think about it.”
Luisa looked at her for a second. “Was is it like that for you? Did you know Pá was the one when you met?”
“Not quite that soon, I think I was only about nine or ten when we met, but when I fell for him that was it,” Julieta confessed. “Some people sit around for weeks, questioning if what they are feeling is actually love or if it could be something else completely, but I never needed to do any of that. I knew I would marry him one day.”
“I don’t think it’s going to be that simple for me.” Luisa sighed.
“Maybe not, but you won’t know for sure until the time comes and you meet him.” Julieta reminded her.
Luisa cuddled close to her mother when she put an arm around her shoulders, allowing her to bury a soft kiss in her hair, and she couldn’t help but smile when she reached for her cup of tea and pushed it into her hands. She could feel her running her hand through her hair while she took a sip and when she laid her head on her shoulder the two of them shared a smile. “I think I’m going to stop thinking about hombres for a while,” She admitted. “I would rather wait a couple more years and meet the right one than go through this again, Mamá.”
“I think you should,” Julieta smoothed a hand tenderly over her curls. “But you know that if you ever need to talk – about anything in general, not just something like this – I am always here to listen to you, don’t you?”
“I do,” Luisa assured her, stretching up to feather a kiss against her cheek. “I really do…”
