Question about medical care in Asgard… I'm talking about a case of Odinsleep/coma. How different do you think caring for a person in a coma would be on Asgard than on Midgard?
Tumblr media
Gonna assume you're asking about the MCU as I answer this! 💚
With a Coma/Odinsleep .. Probably not too terribly different in act for the most part IF it's being treated like a regular coma; but incredibly different in aesthetic, and well.. it does get a little more iffy when you're talking about 'Odinsleep' in particular, even with what little we do know from what's shown and said about it on screen which I say by means of examples given, both canon and deleted from it.
Some things definitely do change if you take deleted scenes from Thor 2011 into account in particular though: as one of the things they removed entirely from existence in the cutting room in that movie, was something called 'healing stones.' They actually had two portions of scenes that they shot (one in the hospital after Jane ran him over, and one just prior to the final portion of the fight with the 'Destroyer' in New Mexico.) I'll slap them in here if I can find them out of my giant clips playlist of doom.
Sticking with just the canon though; and specifically with the regular coma treatment first? The first thing you have to take into account is that there are lots of different kinds of comas, and that even Earth-tech wise, some of them are going to be treated a little differently (short, long term, caused by external injury, caused by internal injury, trauma induced are a thing too.)
That said, the first thing we have on display as far as Asgard's medical goes, is something that unsurprisingly is a repeated major portion of their basic lore in the MCU: that they aren't gods; they're an elder race who have been themselves reaching into the cosmos for eons of generations even stretching back to at least near enough to the beginning of their universe well established enough then, to take note of the fact that the Infinity Stones made at the birth of that universe, were not made by either them, or by the other elder races like the Dark Elves, or the even older Tivan brothers: with single generations lasting as long as five thousand years.
Related to that is also the fact that they by the time in their universal timeline we do catch up with them: they are very clearly a warmongering/imperial colonialist society. Even before and likely during them, Odin made a generation of wars horrible enough to be called 'The Great Wars' among the lot that he and apparently Hela (who was clearly full grown --meaning she was anywhere between 20ish and 1000 years herself-- even in her mural depictions,) to spread his version of 'peace' through the removal of what other species he percieved as threats and competition (see Muspelheim, Jotunheim) going so far as to make certain they couldn't rebuild even their capitals.
Why is that important in this conversation? Because that also means including Bor and Asgard's previous generation five thousand years prior to 2013's invasion of the elves; they had been dealing with injury, illness and more among their own resulting from those battles: and yes during those thousands of years of conflict between Bor's crusade, and Odin's: they had lots and lots of extra time to improve both their tech, and any magic along those lines.
Which yes are actually two very different things, though from the looks of it are often interconnected in Asgardian society in particular, unlike on Earth; where medical technology is foremost, and sorcery/magic has been forced basically into hiding by centuries of the many different flavors (both in religion base and name) of Inquisitions on Earth over the course of over a millennia by the time the twenty tens roll around. We also know that they do posses some limited means through technology, of suppressing some magic; but whether or not Asgard in particular has evolved their understanding of sorcery in particular to do so on a magical level is questionable at best given what we've seen between the first two films alone.
Given the blatantly similar societal distaste for most non-combative magic, and even a good portion of combative magic for that matter that's pretty likely not the case: even Thor refers to his mother's skills and knowledge as "tricks." However, that doesn't seem to apply where the "Healer's Hall" inhabitants and actual healers are involved.
Most obvious example of technological vs magic, and those limitations I mentioned above that we have is a pair of scenes in TDW: the Soul Forge in the Healer's Hall vs. Loki's full-room illusions.
Soul Forge (aka Quantum Field Generator:)
youtube
This is also, one of the scenes that continues to show rather than tell, the MCU established facts of their advancement.. and their arrogance around it when dealing with what Asgardians otherwise clearly still consider 'lesser' races under their protection. Quite a contrast to Loki's interactions with Selvig and Barton delivering those two a great deal more dignity and trust in A1 too, while they're building the portal device ...but that's a whole other set of attached social observations and comparisons I'm not gonna get into here. The point of this one is: if there's magic there; they're making it very clear there isn't much of it, and doubling down on that whole 'not gods, only mistaken for them' far more interesting take, on which MCU Asgard was built since the very first movie. (again though, it also displays their arrogance in that direction, as Eir not only treats Jane's inquiry very dismissively; but gets flustered and gap-mouthed [literally] when she positively identifies the diagnostic technology being used. It also is one of the many displays of how differing etymology between cultures in the MCU [yes there are a few, including the Dr. Strange film as another major example of that in particular] is a purposely crafted thing.)
ANYWAY!
Compare that technological, with the feats of sorcery Loki manages in that same film. Not only does he not use tech to manage his magic/sorcery (or 'tricks' as Thor calls it lol).. but he does so behind the locked door of, that same level of technology, in his own prison cell.. and beyond it. While some of the deleted scenes show this too? The final cut certainly wasn't lacking either.
youtube
So, all that said..? And without dipping into the whole discarded-from-canon 'Healing Stone' facet: it's very likely with a normal (or normal-ish lol) coma, that it wouldn't really be that different: just easier to some extent and probably a lot faster to correct any issues with those caused by injury in particular.
However! And most important:
Odinsleep, is something else entirely.
From the first film, we know through dialogue that not only is 'Odinsleep' not a normal coma by any means: it's one that can, has, and with the way they talk about it: SHOULD be induced every so often in order to maintain his health.
Where do we get that and why do I say 'his' in particular?
Because..
1. It is called Odinsleep, which says outright that in the MCU either Odin is a common enough name among Asgardian elder generations to be named as such OR, that it's a practice that belongs solely to Odin in particular.
2. The conversation between Loki and Frigga tell us as much, in their conversation over Odin's bed. (PS I couldn't find the full clip immediately, so I am posting the full uncut scene [with deleted parts] instead. The part that I've marked it to (timestamp 1:06 in the video below if that doesn't work for you) is what you need to listen to most, and was part of the final cut in Thor 2011.
Though the way they cut and rearranged this scene has some of that conversation out of sequence, the information given about Odinsleep remains the same in the much shorter canon conversation.
youtube
Their conversation tells the viewer outright, that not only is that a thing he does regularly, but that it can be planned out and planned for: as they make a point of stating that it's only this time, the Odinsleep was unprepared for.. and, they have seen it enough for Loki's first words to be stating the fact he 'never gets used to seeing him like this' .. meaning? He has seen it enough times that he thinks he probably should be: but also that it's upsetting enough an experience to him, that he isn't.
You'll note that they also briefly discuss the fact that Odin had been putting the Odinsleep off. It was coming anyway and regardless .. and should have happened far sooner.
While it's not technically counted as canon on screen, there's a little more information given directly about Odinsleep in the parts cut out too, if you choose to observe and use them: as well as a more direct showing of what we already know even without that scene of how Frigga chooses to pass the throne to the only heir not currently being guilty of and banished for several counts of treason including restarting the war and disobeying the king in that bed, with Thor's invasion of Jotunheim landing him firmly on Earth with the very obviously earned traitor title.
I'll leave it up to you if you want to watch and or use any of that, and you definitely could; since it's -again- just dialogue telling the viewer what's already known simply by watching the other scenes around it in the canon cut, including and especially the throne room scene where Sif & the Warriors Three request Thor's return, regardless of not only knowing he was banished for treason.. but also having been the others to try to remind and convince him alongside Loki; to NOT commit that treason, prior to him doing it and dragging them along anyway.
All in all, through those scenes; we are given a very clear set of rules and information about Odinsleep either way. Which includes the fact that it can be a form of coma that probably should not be randomly interrupted or the subject brought out of it, where it's apparently necessary for the individual's overall health: but can also be a state in which they might spend the last of their lives.
In that, this also tells us that; there isn't a whole lot that even Asgard's greater technology, or even magic can or should do, to bring someone out of it at all.
And, from the way they do deal with their King going through it even by surprise: we know that there isn't much they can do at all beyond keeping him comfortable and as healthy as possible until the Odinsleep finishes it's course naturally... whether that results in the subject waking up, or possibly, dying.
There's no mention of anyone else going through Odinsleep.. but there's also no mention of whether or not anyone else HASN'T, either.
Either way, that scene alone does show and tell a lot more about Asgard's medical capabilities and some of their limitations too, even as a society that's been at war since before Moses (lol but true, especially counting Odin's dad before him fought the elves for what Odin himself identified as 'Eternities of bloodshed' that didn't end until almost 5k years prior,) even, when cut down to the re-arranged version put down in the film's final cut.
Ultimately, and that said?
I don't think caring for a person in Odinsleep would be different from what we see on screen.
A whole lot of trying to keep them comfortable, undisturbed, and healthy; while wondering and worrying when and especially -if- they'll even wake up.
--Post Script, and a more direct personal example: Incidentally, and if you're curious: I have written Loki as having gone through his own "Odinsleep" in twenty thirteen, in Book Two (Vestibule 1, Universe 8) of my Lokiverse project: GROUNDED. Yes, that underlined bit is both the title and a link directly to where that long fic is posted on AO3, if you're curious how I handled it there. I suggest reading the chapters leading into that segment to understand how that portion of their multiverse got there, but if you want to skip a bit, the Odinsleep sequence itself starts in Chapter Four and ends in chapter Five, and is ultimately among the last of events before a time skip all the way into Civil War's era. It's not the only time the muses use it, but it is currently the only instance I have published.

Concerning Frigga
I've seen a few posts & fics comparing Frigga to Odin and saying she too was an awful parent with awful intentions. But I really don't think this was the case? I mean, obviously she did some wrong things that fucked Loki up, but I don't think they are all entirely her fault. It is my belief that she was being emotionally abused/manipulated by Odin.
I think the biggest and most obvious example of this is from a deleted scene from the first Thor film (2011) [and before you call it invalid because it was deleted, they deleted a lot of scenes showing both Frigga's and Loki's characterization to make it more about Thor. There was nothing in the scene that was contradictory to the film, nor was it to far-fetched to have a good reason to be scrapped. Therefor, i view it as canon]. But anyways, within the scene, Frigga confronts Odin on Thor's banishment. She is very obviously distraught at the loss of her son, and angry at Odin's choice (obviously)(also, i mean, she wasn't even there for it). However, Odin just dismisses her for her emotions, says that his lack of emotion made him superior in the situation, and that he has his reasons for it and she is crazy for questioning him. Very obviously mental/emotional manipulation/abuse.
There are more subtle examples at other times, however.
In Thor: The Dark World (2013), there is a scene in which Frigga mentions that Odin "Never was a good liar" [I couldn't find a clip of the scene that included it, as it was sort of a transition, but the segment starts at 40:46 in the movie, and she says it at 41:09]. She says this despite Odin lying about Hela's existence to like, everyone ever (and was pretty successful at his cover-up), and also lying to Loki about his true heritage (and that cover-up was pretty successful for several centuries). Odin seems to be pretty good at lying. By Odin letting Frigga believe he is a bad liar (at least at smaller things), it lets him have her twisted around his fingers even more.
In addition, Frigga defends Odin's awful actions, notable in the first Thor film, in a scene where Frigga and Loki are conversing while Odin is in the Odinsleep. Frigga admits to wanting to have told Loki of his Jotünn heritage from the beginning, but Odin forbade it. When Loki asks for more information, Frigga says it's because Odin loved him and didn't want him to feel different. Pretty bullshit reasoning, but it looks like Frigga legitimately, honestly believes the words (words that were most likely told to her by Odin, probably in 'conversation' much like in the deleted scene previously mentioned). In this scene, she also defends Odin's decision to banish Thor, saying Odin always has a reason for everything (much like what Odin had yelled at her about in his chastisement in the same previous deleted scene).
While some may attribute this to her honestly agreeing with Odin and being a reflection on her beliefs & morals (and therefore being a horrible person as well), this probably isn't the case given what we have seen of her. It is actually quite common for victims to defend their abuser's actions. In this article by Dr. Sirota (a psychiatrist with over 25 years of mental health experience), she explains many, many reasons as to why this is (including the "crazy-making" tactic Odin was showed utilizing in that first scene mentioned).
Not to mention, in actual norse mythology/Asatro, Frigga (actually called Frigg) is deemed the goddess of marriage, amongst other things. If this aspect of her carries over into her MCU version, she may even feel pressured to stay with Odin- after all, what is the goddess of marriage with a failing marriage? So she either doesn't/can't recognize Odin's flaws and corruption, or is in denial about them due to this.
I really don't think Frigga was truly a bad parent (in the sense that she didnt care/didnt try), nor a bad person at heart. It is made very apparent on multiple occasions that Frigga truly loves Loki. While it is mainly shown in scenes in which she is directly talking to Loki, it is also shown even when Loki is not present, confirming that it is not a ruse. She even went out of her way and defied Odin's wishes to visit him (which is a big testament to her love for Loki, considering how much she falls in line with Odin the rest of the time). While she definitely has her flaws (there are hints to racism/excusing racism, as that is pretty normal in Asgard, apparently), I cannot help but wonder how much of that is also Odin's fault?(actually likely just the. culture of asgard's fualt) (btw not trying to excuse racism, racism is very obviously bad)
But anyways in the end, I think Frigga was a good parent to the best of her abilities given her situation and own problems, and it sort of makes me sad to see people talking about how awful she was :( Let's just shit on Odin

"ZZZZzzzzzzz-hngggghhh......pphhhwwwww"
Loud were the snores of the Bestfather, grandfatherly and of narrow nasal passages. Oft was heard the silence still breath that would so concern small children. Until finally gasps of exhaling and inhaling returned.
The sort of snores of a life of broken noises, sinus infections and years and years of ruling from the Longhouse ages before the invention of chimneys.
"Ssnnnuuugghhhhhh, meh" lips smacking, "meh, meh, I...Old Quinn, Allbother."
Lo, the mighty Odinsleep.
"Ehh, huh? Blaze my beard, I was just resting my eye!"

In my solitude
Thor x reader x Loki - Asgard AU
18+ | same warnings and stuff throughout smut angst
Chapter 4 | prev | next
Tumblr media
“Heimdall, I have a favour to ask”
“I know what you seek but I am afraid— ”
“Please refrain from disobeying your queen”
“Lady y/n, you are not yet—”
“I have sworn an oath have I not? I have sighed my name have I not?”
“Yes”
“Once Odin succumbs to the Odinsleep, Frigga will be demoted to Queen Dowager and I will be crowned queen, not just acting, in which case you’ll answer to me”
“Indeed”
“And I can assure you that I will be indebted to you. You see all, do you not?”
“I do”
“I am asking that when the time comes, you do not see me”
Tumblr media
You felt nauseous. Bile threatened to rise as you swallowed thickly, willing yourself not to throw up. You tried to distract yourself by reading but it was too loud. There was something about hearing your husband fucking another woman that simply made you want to disappear. Despite what Loki had said, your marriage to Thor was loveless, that was evident now. It was made clear everytime Thor professed his love to Sif in the next room, driving into her as she no doubt lay spread in his bed, docile.
When you heard that they were done, you sighed and managed to focus on your book again before you heard the headboard banging against the wall. Fed up, you flung your book against the wall in a fit of rage before storming off aimlessly around the palace. You ignored the guards that greeted you as you wandered down the familiar corridors before ending up in front of Loki’s door. So much for aimlessly you huffed inwardly as you raised your hand to knock it before it opened.
“Can you just sense when I’m near or something?” You asked, stepping inside.
“Yes” he answered, looking up at you from where he sat at his dressing table.
Walking further inside, the door shut behind you as you made your way to Loki’s bed.
“Have you been crying?” He asked, noticing your crestfallen expression.
“Can I sleep here tonight?” You asked, not answering his question as you sat on his bed.
“I’ll stay here, make sure you’re safe” Loki nodded, gesturing to his chair.
“I’m in the palace” you smiled, pulling his duvet back “I’m safe, don’t stay over there on my accord” you insisted, settling into his bed before closing your eyes, thankful that you were no longer accompanied by Thor and Sif.
Loki waited for your breaths to even out before eventually joining you in the bed. He faced you from the edge of the bed, almost frightened to get closer, to touch you. The sound of your voice startled him to say the least.
“Does the problem reside in me?” You asked quietly, feeling Loki finally lay down.
“Y/n, whatever do you mean?” He replied questioningly “you’re faultless” he added causing a small smile to spread across your lips as you moved back against him.
You both stayed like that for a while, content in one another’s spaces. You knew he wasn’t asleep and neither were you. You felt a nervous arm drape around you causing you to relax back further against Loki until you both did eventually fall asleep.
The following morning, you woke up first with the feeling of Loki’s arm still around you. It was comforting. Remembering Thor’s previous words, his threats, all feelings of comfort dissipated as you lifted it off of you before slipping out of his bed and out of his room wordlessly.
The sound of his door creaking closed caused Loki to stir as he woke up and realised that you had left. A feeling of guilt consumed him as he wondered if he had taken things too far last night by having his arm around you and whether or not you regretted even going to his room in the first place. He was anxious, a feeling that began to fade as he smelt you against his sheets.
Tumblr media
“Where were you last night?” Thor demanded, sitting on the bed as you walked into your room.
“Not having loud sex, don’t worry,” you replied harshly.
“My apologies” Thor cleared his throat, his hard exterior shifting for a moment as he realised what you were inferring.
“Whatever” you rolled your eyes.
“In other news, I am needed elsewhere tonight” Thor announced, standing up.
“Elsewhere?” You practically gasped “but you said—”
“I know what I said” he dismissed you “you’ll have to go with the knave” he remidied.
“Knave?” You queried.
“Loki” he elaborated.
You tried to hide your elation at the fact that Loki would once again be joining you to the ball as you nodded to Thor before he left you. Alone, you allowed your smile to show freely as you thought about spending the night with Loki. You stood up, wrapping your arms around yourself as you imagined him holding you as you both danced. You closed your eyes, picturing it. Images of Loki in the garden with the chambermaid began to flood your system as you tried to ignore them before the image distorted, the chambermaid replaced by you. You took a shaky breath as Loki’s lips met your cheek in a light kiss before he began kissing your exposed shoulder. You ran your hands against your body, smoothing over your contours as you imagined they were Loki’s hands. It was wrong, you knew it was wrong, but the thought of Loki touching you so tenderly, intimately, stirred feelings in you, lecherous one’s. You knew nothing could ever happen despite your growing crush on the prince but it didn’t stop you from laying against the bed and pleasuring yourself as you thought about it. You wondered how Loki would fuck until you realised he wouldn’t, he’d make love. There’d be no rushing, just slow, leisurely strokes. He’d rock his hips against yours steadily before you both orgasmed.
Nothing could happen, you knew nothing could happen but you wished it would.
Tumblr media
“Brother” Loki greeted Thor with a faux kindness they were both aware of.
“I unfortunately cannot make the ball meaning you’ll be accompanying y/n in my place” Thor spoke, looking around Loki’s room as he walked in “why hasn’t your bed been made? Must I personally retire your chambermaids?” Thor asked, noting Loki’s disheveled bed.
“No” he insisted “I have asked them to leave it, I’ll make it myself”
“Very well” Thor shrugged his shoulders before leaving Loki’s room.

Kinktober ⛓️ Day 5
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3.5K Paring:  Loki Laufeyson x Fem!Reader Prompt @kinktober2023: Collaring WARNINGS: SMUT 18+ (minors DNI),  oral sex (female receiving), vaginal fingering, p-in-v sex, first time, mentioned cheating, referenced death
Summary: There weren't many things that Loki could call his. Most of what he had had been a consolation prize or simply a result of Odin's manipulation. Except (Y/N). She belonged only to him.
A/N: I know I didn't post day 4 but that's because I haven't finished it and I'm having a lot of trouble finishing it. I also know I posted this one after day 5 (at least where I'm at) but it's posted, and I said there were days I'd be late. Anywho, enjoy! 😈😈

There weren’t many things Loki could say that were just his. His parents weren’t his, the kingdom wasn’t his, not even his childhood had been his. Everything he had came from the manipulation of Odin or a discard from Thor. Even his precious powers had been practiced in an attempt to level the playing field with his brother in a battle that was never his to win.
Except (Y/N).
The Vanaheim princess had resided in the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf from a very young age. Her betrothal to the blond prince an agreement that had been decided before they had been born. Internal royal affairs were not the business of the children, and the decisions were taken without their consent. But being princes and princesses, they knew there were things they had no say in. It was for the good of their kingdoms, and that was that.
But no one had expected that the girl’s heart would align with the heart of the adopted Jotunheim prince. Regardless of her inevitable marriage to his brother, (Y/N) couldn’t help her inclination toward the raven-haired Frost Giant. His mischievous nature and sly tongue won her over swiftly, first as friends and, as they grew, as something a bit more.
Yet, neither of them could act upon their feelings. Not while her marriage to Thor was in effect. All they could do was long for each other through lingering stares and hushed conversations. And for the longest time, that’s what they believed the rest of their lives would be like. Her love was something else that would never be Loki’s.
The morning of Thor’s coronation had been the announcement of their wedding. Although everyone in the land already knew of the betrothal, the royal declaration of the union cemented a marriage that would never be broken. Not that Loki would ever allow that to happen.
The man had made sure that Thor could not be crowned, and he could not be there to marry (Y/N). By forcing his brother to restart a war with Jotunheim, he could get him exiled and break his engagement with her. What he had not expected was Odin declaring that the betrothal still stood even after his son’s exile. That once Thor was worthy to lead Asgard, then he could come back, and he would get married to (Y/N).
The girl was sent back home to reside in Vanheim until Thor returned. All communication between her and Loki was severed for years by order of Odin. Even when he was in Odinsleep and Loki was crowned, he had no way to speak with her. And it made anger and resentment fester inside him. Growing and overtaking him as the days passed.
For years, (Y/N) heard nothing of Loki –not that her parents would have ever allowed her to know anything of him. They had known of their daughter’s affinity for the mischievous prince and did not agree with their closeness. As Loki continued to dig his claws into Asagard and later on in Midgard, they vowed to protect their princess from falling into his control. And, at least that way, they could protect their daughter’s perception of the man she seemingly loved.
Until the Marauders attacked their home. In an effort to keep their daughter safe, (Y/N) was sent back to Asgard to be protected in Valaskjalf. And just like the rest of her life, all she could do was agree and follow orders. She left her home once more and was sent to be guarded by the Asgardian palace.
One thing both Vanheim and Asgard did consistently was shield (Y/N) from the real dangers that lurked. She had been protected all the way through the battle, unbeknownst to her that Loki was closer than she knew. Even her own fiancée was there. Still, she did not see or hear about either brother.
That was until an Einherjar guard arrived to announce there was a body found on the battlefield of Svartalfheim, and Odin thought it to be Loki. At that moment, with a softened heart and the knowledge that Thor had met another woman, the king decided to absolve (Y/N)’s engagement and allowed her to mourn the son he knew she truly loved.
Had (Y/N) not noted the playful glint she knew too well in the guard’s eyes, she would have broken down in the throne room that very moment. Instead, she thanked Odin for his kindness and refuge, and excused herself from his presence.
“So, the prince is truly dead?” (Y/N) asked the guard who had made the announcement right outside the throne room. “Loki is gone, and Thor is back at Midgard?”
“Yes, princess,” the guard responded after clearing his throat. “The prince is dead. Mortally wounded at the battlefield, protecting his brother. And the future king has gone back to Midgard to finish the battle with his companion Jane Foster.”
“Where you there, guard? You seem to know many details of what transpired.”
“I was, princess.”
“Then, did you lie to Odin, or are you lying to me?” she said accusingly, trapping him between the wall and her body. “Because inside the throne room, you said that you had been sent to survey the battlefield after the fact, not that you were there. So, I am asking you again. Who were you lying to?”
“I wasn’t lying, pet,” he said. “I was there, but I inspected the field afterward as well.”
“Funny you use that name,” she grinned, staring deeply into blue eyes that were far too familiar. “Because in my entire life, only Loki ever called me that. And I know I have never met you before in my life.”
The guard’s face was stricken with surprise one second and a knowing smile the next as his eyes softened upon her. “I’ve never been able to hide anything from you,” he chuckled, placing a finger under her chin. “You simply know me too well, pet.”
“Loki,” she breathed, a weight lifting from her shoulders. She placed a hand on the face that did not belong to him, imagining his own under. “Oh, darling, it’s been too long.”
“Too long indeed,” he smiled. “And for the first time, we are both free to do as we please.”
He leaned in, wanting to taste her lips and finally determine if it was everything he had ever imagined. But (Y/N) stopped him, placing a hand on his chest. “Not like this,” she said. “Not when you’re someone else.”
Loki could only grin and take (Y/N) by the hand, running toward the chambers that had been hers since she was a child. The room was fit for a future queen. A four-poster bed was adorned with white linens and vivid green vines laced with white flowers right in front of a massive fireplace that was already crackling fire. Her windows overlooked a small interior garden that younger versions of themselves would spend hours upon hours strolling even if they went nowhere.
“I want to see you, Loki,” she whispered when finally in the privacy of her bedroom. Right before her, and without another second to spare, the Einreghard guard transformed into the only man she had ever loved. His black hair had grown longer than the last time she had seen him, falling in soft messy curls that she had not seen in a long time. “There you are. It feels like an eternity has passed.”
“It’s been far longer than I ever thought would have passed,” he sighed sadly. “I don’t ever want to go a second without seeing your beautiful face ever again.”
“You never will,” she promised. “For as long as I live, I belong to you now. And no other king will ever tell me otherwise. Not my father and most certainly not yours.”
Loki remained quiet for a second, looking into her eyes for any sign of deceit. But once he found none, he felt relief taking over his body. “Do you mean that?” he asked. “Will you belong to me from now on?”
“Truly,” she answered. “And completely. I am yours.”
“You’re all mine,” he grinned. His hands cradled her cheeks before placing a passionate kiss upon her lips, melting into the touch they had both longed for. “I don’t think you can imagine how long I’ve wanted to do this, pet.”
“I have an idea,” (Y/N) chuckled. “But even if it took this long, I am grateful that you are here before me so I can tell you again and again that I am all yours. I just wish there was a way I could show you.”
Suddenly, the mischievous grin she had grown to love stretched across his face, tugging at his lips. “Well, darling, it’s funny you should say that,” he said as he outstretched his hands and something materialized on them. “I have a way that you could.”
“Is that…?”
“It is,” he sighed. “This is the collar and chains that kept me prisoner for a year. Captured in my own home, without any hope of escape. What I hold in my hands is a sign of the second worst time in my life.”
“Second worst?”
“The first was losing you, pet,” he confessed. “But you are here now, darling, and I am free. And I intended to replace those memories with new ones. Better ones. Starting tonight.”
“You want me to wear that,” she confirmed, though it should have been a question. “Put it on me.”
“You’re eager, pet,” Loki chuckled. “I haven’t even asked you to.”
“I know you, Loki,” she purred as she kneeled before him. “I know what you want from me, and I am giving it all to you.”
Loki took the golden collar and wrapped it around her neck, doing his best to bury the twitch that was trying to take him over as he remembered himself wearing it and what it represented. But he wanted to take control of those memories and create new ones. Memories that he could look back on and smile rather than shatter.
(Y/N) stared into his eyes as his hands worked to close the collar around her, all the love she felt for him radiating from the orbs. She wanted him to know that he would never go through life alone, never again. She was his, and she had meant it.
“Beautiful,” he smiled devilishly, pulling at the chain that hung from the collar and lifting her head to crash his lips onto her again. “And mine. Darling, you’re all mine.”
“For the rest of time, love.”
“Good, pet. We’re gonna have some fun tonight.” He pulled her up to her feet, twisting the chain in his hand to shorten the distance. And (Y/N) obediently obliged to his every tug. “Disrobe, darling. I want to see you.”
She unlaced the corset of her dress before sleeping the sleeves of her tunic from her shoulders and, with one move, allowed the fabric to pool at her feet. In the light of the moon, her body was exposed to Loki for the first time, in the very room they had once confessed they felt something for each other they could not word. Their journeys had finally come full circle.
“How are you this beautiful?” Loki growled. “And to think you would have been wasted on a brute like my brother.”
“I may have married him, but I wouldn’t have warmed his bed, darling.”
“You would have betrayed your king, pet?”
“I would have betrayed a prince and given him dark-haired babies while the real King ruled.”
“And who would have been King, then?”
“You, my King. The rightful heir of the throne.”
“You truly know what to say, pet,” he chuckled. “It’s almost like magic.”
“It is merely the truth.”
Loki kissed her once more, roughly and passionately, molding his tongue to hers, exploring every corner of her mouth like it belonged to him. Because it did. Every curve and line of her body belonged to him. She had told him so, and the collar around her neck confirmed it.
The kiss quickly turned feverish and hungry as hands explored each other, ones touching skin and the others undressing layers of clothes. The only thing either wanted was to stake their claim to each other’s body as quickly as possible. They had lost too much time already, and the was no way they could lose a second more.
“Get on the bed,” Loki instructed breathlessly. He removed his open coat and every layer after as he stared at her every move. She walked backward to the bed, the long chain dragging on the ground. It was a sight to behold, and he would make sure to commit it to memory. “You are ravishing, pet. I could stare at you all night.”
“You better do more than just stare, love,” she chuckled. “I’m all wet and needy, and your eyes won’t do much.”
“Such lewd things from the mouth of a future queen,” Loki teased. “I don’t believe Odin would have ever let you sit on the throne if he knew this was the way you spoke.”
“Well, it won’t be his decision that matters,” she grinned, beckoning him closer with just her eyes. “It will soon be yours, my King.”
“My queen,” he hummed. “My beautiful, beautiful queen.”
“Make me yours, Loki,” she purred. “Take me.”
“Patience, pet. I want this night to last.”
“We have forever to make it last,” she whined. “I want you now.”
“So needy,” he chuckled, towering over her body. He leveled himself with one arm, using the other to sink two fingers into her wetness. She gasped at the intrusion, gripping at the arms that had entered her. “So, so very needy, pet.”
“Oh, Loki,” she moaned. His fingers worked her slowly at first, exploring her walls for the first time and mapping the body that belonged to him. But he quickly learned what had her squirming under him, what made her sing like a canary in the morning. “Oh, darling, that feels so good.”
“You haven’t felt anything yet,” the man grinned.
Loki was calculated and precise in his every move. As his fingers pistoned inside her, his mouth savored her skin, traveling from her lips to her jaw, from her collarbones to her breast, making sure he found every spot that made her arch her back or moan out loud. He learned what made her skin flush and made her chest heave. He memorized every reaction and flutter of her insides. He would learn everything that made her melt and set fire to her body as much as he could.
His head traveled lower on her body still, joining his fingers at the heat between her legs, closing his mouth over the small bundle of nerves that had her yelling his name into the night. One of (Y/N)’s hands jumped forward, snaking into the locks of raven hair, gripping as he attacked her with mouth and hands.
“Darling, please,” she cried out. “I’m already close.”
“Good,” he chuckled against her, sending shivers across her body. “I want you to come, pet. Come all over my face.”
It didn’t take long for her to do just that, coming undone on his fingers and his mouth. (Y/N) was sure that even just the sight of him could’ve had her bursting that night. He had filled her fantasies for far too long. Having him there, in corporeal form, was fulfillment enough.
Licking his lips and donning a sly grin, Loki kissed her lips once more, allowing her to taste herself in his tongue. They moaned into each other’s mouth, succumbed with more pleasure than they knew what to do with
Using his lack of focus, (Y/N) changed their positions, rolling them until she was straddling his lap, her chain grazing the skin of his chest. One of her hands rested against his chest as the other grasped his cock, aligning it with her entrance. She let her wetness coat his skin, pumping his shaft… one… two… three times.
“Go on, pet,” he groaned, groping her hips tightly. “Make me yours as well.”
With another pump, (Y/N) sank down on his cock, taking in a deep breath as his length stretched her more than his fingers did. She threw her head back in pleasure, remaining stagnant as she allowed her body to get used to him. He made her feel full… well, that wasn’t the right word. No. He made her feel complete.
“Darling, I need you to move,” he groaned. “It can’t end like this.”
“Just a second,” she responded out of breath. “You’re too big, darling. I need a second.”
And a second was all it took before (Y/N) was moving up and down his cock, squeezing around his shaft as she searched for a shared finish. She braced herself with his chest, bouncing on his lap as she set the right pace. It wasn’t until a guttural moan left Loki’s mouth that she knew she had found it.
The rhythm was quick and relentless, filling the quiet night with the sounds of slapping skin, melodious moans, and the soft rattling of her hain. It was the sound of wanton need, a deep-rooted desire that had not been acted upon for years and years. It was a dream –a fantasy–neither had believed would have ever been fulfilled. Not the way their lives were headed.
But they had taken control of their lives now. Loki had fought for that right and had gifted it to her. She belonged to no one but him, and he did as well.
Loki met her hips in tandem, gripping her skin tightly with one hand to keep her steady. The other snaked around the golden chain, pulling her torso toward him and crashing her lips onto his. He swallowed every moan and coaxed out ever more as his tongue continued its exploration. If that had been his last night of life, he would’ve had every single one of his prayers answered.
“You’re so perfect, pet,” Loki moaned in a strangled voice. “You’re absolutely perfect.”
“And all yours,” she smiled, her lips red and swollen. “All yours, Loki.”
“Say it again.”
“I‘m all yours,” she moaned. “Today. Tomorrow. And for the rest of our lives, I belong to you, my King.”
At the name, Loki’s hips moved faster, pummeling into her at a speed that surprised both of them. He was hungry, and he knew exactly what he needed to satiate himself.
(Y/N) met his every move, snaking a hand between them to circle her clit, bringing her that much closer to her finish.
“You’re getting close, aren’t you, pet?”
“Yes, darling,” she breathed, her eyes pressing shut. “I’m right there already.”
“Then come, my love,” he whispered. “I am right behind you.”
With a gleeful shriek, (Y/N) pressed her clit hard and allowed herself to orgasm around him, her walls fluttering tightly around his cock. As she rode out her orgasm, with Loki’s pace still unrelenting, her new goal was to get him to burst. She wanted to feel him painting her insides with his release and mix it with her own. That would be the final part of their claim, they would belong to one another for eternity.
A couple of seconds later, that was what happened. With three slow and sharp thrusts, Loki burst inside her, filling her with everything he had kept to himself for years. He whispered how much he loved her, how he had yearned for her every day since he had known her. He expressed everything he had been forced to swallow down and pretend didn’t exist, all for the sake of the kingdoms. And, better yet, she said it all back.
At some point in the night, they had collapsed in her bed, limbs tangled in limbs and promises of love and eternity twisting in the air. And, in the morning, they had awoken in each other’s warm embrace, letting out a sigh of relief that the night before had been real and not another one of their painful dreams.
They each dressed after basking in the sun that streamed through the windows for hours, talking about nothing and everything. (Y/N) stood before her mirror, admiring the gold collar that drowned her neck and what it meant that she was still wearing it.
In her gazing, she did not notice Loki walking closer until he was pressed behind her, admiring the same accessory she had been. “I think this might be too big for you to carry around,” he chuckled softly. “But I can’t help but love the way it looks on you. This is what these things should be used for. Nothing else.”
“I don’t ever want to take it off, then.”
“Maybe there’s something I could do,” Loki smiled. With a quick move of his hands, the bulky and heavy collar transformed into a thin golden choker with an emerald green L in the center. “There. This way, everyone will know who you belong to.”
“I pity the man who doesn’t know that I belong to the King,” she grinned. “Now, let’s go get you your kingdom, your Highness.”
"I love the way you think, pet."

Why Thor: Ragnarok is remake and doesn't fit to other movies of Thor
Tumblr media
I will talking only about chronology in this post. Hela shows ''true history'' of Asgard. Well, but we have one problem. We watched Thor and Thor: Dark World. This both movies are the denial of Hela's words.
Tumblr media
The frescoes show the winning couple. Odin and his daughter conquering the world. Look at Odin. A white, senile beard… interesting… because we saw what Odin looked like over a thousand years earlier at the time of Loki's birth.
Tumblr media
Here later with both sons.
Tumblr media
And here as King of Asgard when Thor and Loki are grown men.
Tumblr media
The war with Jotunheim was in 965 AD.
And Odin looked completely different at that time than he did in 2011-2013.
Next thing… is the case of Borr and the war with Malekith.
Tumblr media
5,000 thousand years ago, Borr was still the king of Asgard and fought against the Dark Elves. Interesting thing, his heir is not with him. Odin is not present during this key battle. He seems to truly believe that his father defeated Malekith.
Why isn't Odin present during this battle? We have two options… and they are related to age. Either Odin was too young to fight battles (Asgardians do not have children during battle, Mr. Taika Waititi! If Loki saw that scene with his mother, he would tear your head off!) or he was a very young man who was just old enough to be regent during his father's absence… which would make him roughly the age of Thor and Loki in Thor (2011).
However, both situations quite exclude the possibility of Odin being an old man with an unstoppable desire for power and an adult daughter.
Even assuming that Borr died quickly after this battle and Odin already had a teenage/adolescent daughter… that still doesn't fill the gaps. Because Odin was not the old man shown in the frescoes. And if he had access to the fountain of youth, he would use it again rather than allow Hela to be released?
Tumblr media
Failure to solve the problem of Hela also puts the events in Thor 1 in a strange twist. Odin actually believes that it's time for Thor to be king. Why? He put off Odinsleep, Frigga really thought he might not wake up from this. He probably also realized that his strength was weakening. And… he didn't tell any of his sons… when I die, your bloodthirsty half-sister will suddenly appear and want to kill you? What kind of ruler does this?
My conclusion : Thor Ragnarok is remake.
We see the actual history of Asgard… up to 2015… where Age of Ultron still honors this timeline.
Overall timeline of Thor 1, Avengers, Thor Dark World, (in the meantime movies related to Avengers like Winter Soldier or Iron Man 3) and Avengers: Age of Ultron. After that, we never see any further events. I would also like to point out that Thanos in Guardians of Galaxy and Thanos from Infinity War are two different characters. The last time we see Thanos from Guardians of Galaxy is in the scene with the gauntlet at the end of Age of Ultron. Thanos in Infinity War is nothing like the previous Thanos.
Well, Thor is probably still looking for those stones, and Loki is preparing a surprise for Thanos in their universe.
The further timeline, starting with Ragnarok, has completely different events and one could even say a different universe.

Happy Loki Season 2 Finale! As my gift to you here's the chapter a day early! ( The finale was amazing and it ripped my heart out and stomped on it.)
Asgard 2011
Astri was polishing her sword when Loki barged into her chambers.
"Remember the conversation we had about knocking, Loki?" She asked without looking up
His lack of response got Astri to look away from her work. Loki was sitting on one of the large pieces of furniture that decorated her room. All of his attention was on his hands as he stared at them.
"If you're upset about what happened to Thor, I'm sure he is fine on Midgard." She said moving to sit next to him. "They love him there."
"Stay back," Loki said, his deep voice suddenly scaring Astri. It was the same tone he often used when speaking to enemies in battle. It was intimidating, mean, and cold, and Astri hated everything about it.
She crossed so that she was sitting across from him, the small table felt like it was keeping her miles away from him. Loki's eyes looked red and swollen as he kept them focused on his hands.
"You've been crying." Astri observed, "What happened?"
"Nothing I can't handle." He lied.
"It doesn't seem that way? Do you want some tea? We can talk about it, I'll send for Drifa." Astri offered gently
"I didn't come here to talk," Loki said
"Then why are you here and not in your chambers?" Astri pushed, she knew he didn't just come here to sit, he had something he wanted to get off his chest.
"I don't want to be alone." He said, looking up, "You're the only thing that makes sense in this damn palace."
Okay...progress. But he definitely had something else he wanted to say, Astri would take that for now.
"You don't have to worry. I won't be going anywhere, I'll stay here with you." Astri assured knowing her words were anything but lies.
"You won't want to once you know though. That's what scares me." Loki said softly
Astri wanted to reach across the table and hold his shaking hands but his harsh tone from earlier kept her grounded in her seat, hands folded neatly in her lap. The doors opened to her chambers and two guards walked in.
"Lady Astri, the queen summons you." The one on the right said.
Astri wondered what could be amiss as she walked quickly through the halls. Loki was uncharacteristically a few paces behind her and dead silent when the guards directed them to Odin's chambers of all places. Frigga seemed frazzled and uncomposed when Astri saw her next to the Allfather. It was strange seeing her so distressed when she normally seemed to have everything under control.
"Astri, Loki." She stood and greeted them both with warm hugs. Loki's stiffened posture didn't go unnoticed by Astri.
"What happened?" Astri asked eyeing Odin's sleeping form
"He has fallen into the Odinsleep. It was too sudden this time. I fear he might not wake this time." Frigga said sadly
"He is strong, Frigga. I'm sure he will wake again soon." Astri said placing a warm hand on her mother figure's shoulder. Was this what Loki wanted to tell her? Did he cause this? The way he was acting made it seem worse than this. Odin had fallen to Odinsleep many times in the past.
The doors opened abruptly to reveal what had to be a full platoon of soldiers on the other side. When Loki turned to them they all bent their knee to him. One came forward and presented Loki with Gungnir, the spear Astri rarely saw Odin without.
"My king, Lady Sif, and the Warriors Three request an audience with you." He said once Loki had taken it from him
Astri felt her face pale when she realized what was happening. Loki seemed to have a similar reaction but quickly recovered and nodded to the man.
"I'll meet them in the throne room," Loki said, dismissing him and his fellow soldiers.
"Loki..." Astri said, reaching out to grab his hand. She didn't know what she was going to say just that she didn't want him to leave her.
"Stay here. With my mother." Loki said, pulling his hand away from her reach
   "But I want to-"
"Stay. I'll send Drifa to bring you those cakes." Loki cut her off
"Is that an order...my king?" Astri asked, the words felt bitter in her mouth.
"Yes." He hissed before turning on his heel and leaving the door.
"Come sit with me, darling." Frigga beckoned to her.
⋆⭒˚。⋆
Loki kept his word and sent Drifa with Astri's favorite cakes. They were delicate little lemon-flavored things with soft powdered sugar on top. Beyond the cakes, he had also sent her the book she had been reading for the past week along with tea and a book for his mother. Even when he was upset, he was looking out for them.
"What's on your mind?" Frigga asked, moving her eyes from Odin's form.
   "Nothing." Astri sighed
"Remember when I told you your mother and I were raised by witches?"
Astri nodded.
"That means I can see with more than eyes. Now, why is my son troubling you?" She asked
How does she always know what's wrong?
"He seemed very distraught before you summoned me here. I know it could have just been Odin's condition but it seemed to be more than that." Astri confessed, "He kept staring at his hands too, and wouldn't let me sit next to him which you know he always does."
"I think it's best if I let him tell you what's wrong," Frigga advised suddenly looking away.
"But you just asked me to tell you-"
"When Odin fell asleep, He and Loki were discussing...matters in the weapons vault. Loki told me what happened." Frigga explained, "But, it is not my place to tell my son's secrets to the world."
"But it's not the world. It's just me." Astri reasoned
Silence passed and Astri could tell Frigga was thinking about something important.
"Go to him. If he gets upset tell him he can whine about it to me." Frigga smiled
Astri groaned but stood up and went to the door anyway.
"You're sure you'll be ok alone?" She asked looking back at Odin.
"I have lived for thousands of years, darling. I will be alright." She smiled gently
Astri nodded before quietly slipping out the door. The walk to the throne room was incredibly brief. Perks of being the Allfather, your bedroom is closest to the most important room in the castle.
Loki's armor was complimented by the large throne. The green he normally donned made him look more regal as his golden helmet shone when the light hit it.
"Lady Astri. I thought I ordered you to stay with my mother."
"And I thought you weren't an uptight jerk with a stick up your ass," Astri responded
Loki's sharp gaze snapped to her and she stared up at him defiantly. He might be king now but she knew he'd never do anything to harm her.
"Leave us." He ordered the guards in the room
Astri watched him slowly descend from the throne almost as if it was for dramatic purposes. King of Asgard? More like King of Dramatics.
"What are you doing?" Loki asked, annoyed
"I wanted to talk to you," Astri explained
"That doesn't mean you can call me names like that in front of others." Loki scolded "I'm acting king now."
"The guards do not care what names the king's childhood friend calls him. I bet some of them are old enough that they saw the time you and Thor went running through the castle naked." Astri smiled
"Stop it," Loki demanded, looking around to see if anyone had entered the room
"I'll stop when you talk to me." Astri said, "Do you think any of them remember the time you went crying to Frigga after you had a nightmare from the scary story Thor told at that sleepover we had with Volstagg?"
Loki snapped his fingers in her face before she could think of another embarrassing childhood moment of his.
"Alright. We'll talk. Just stop saying crazy things." He said
"Crazy? All those things happened Loki. Just like the time you farted in front of that gorgeous boy, you tried charming who was visiting from Xandar with her family." She laughed
Loki's face had grown red as he gestured for her to follow him.
"Not another word about me as a child," Loki ordered
"The fart incident was 200 years ago. You were already fully grown at that point." She pointed out
"I'll cut your hair again," Loki said as they reached his chambers
Astri giggled as she sat down on his bed and gestured for him to sit next to her.
"I'll say here." Loki declined still several feet from her
"I'm not going to bite you you know," Astri said
"I just...don't want to hurt you." Loki softly said, piddling with his hands, a gesture Astri noticed he had down since they were children.
"You won't. Just...tell me what's wrong. I'll help you fix it. I promise." She sincerely said
"You can't. I can't. No one can." Loki said looking away from her and at his shoes
"How do you know? What's even wrong anyway?" Astri asked
"If I tell you, you'll be scared of me," Loki said quietly
"I won't. Nothing you do will ever scare me." Astri swore
A soft beat of silence passed over the room as Astri wished Loki would look up at her.
"I am a monster. A relic Odin kept here until he had a purpose for me." Loki said
"You're not a monster," Astri assured, standing and crossing the room so she was close to him again.
"You don't understand...I'm...one of them. One of those monsters who we've been told frightening stories about since we were children. I am a Frost Giant. The monster who Asgardian parents tell their children to be frightened of when they misbehave. I was nothing but a bargaining chip to Odin. Another object in this castle that represents his conquest over these Nine Realms." Loki said angrily, words cutting across the air like knives, as he finally looking her in the eyes
"What do you mean you're a Frost Giant?" Astri asked slowly, surprised at his speech.
Loki led Astri through the castle as he told her the story Odin had told him merely hours before. She stayed silent the whole time, absorbing what came from his mouth. Loki couldn't tell what was worse, her silence or what she might say about who he was. They reached the weapons vault quicker than he would have liked and soon were standing in front of the Joutun's casket.
"I will show you." He said, barely trusting his voice
"You don't have to. Let's go back to the library and read together." Astri said reaching for him again.
Loki ignored her request and placed his hands on the casket again. An indescribable coldless tingled through his body and he watched his hands turn blue once more. He felt it spread across his body and felt the soft facial lines that all Frost Giants bore rise from his skin. When he was sure he had held it long enough, he turned back to his dear Astri, awaiting her judgment.
"I understand if you want to leave," Loki said
Astri was silent as her eyes roamed across him. Her light brown eyes we taking in every inch of blue skin that Loki had exposed to her and when she was finally done looking she opened her mouth.
   "I don't care." She said
"What?" Loki balked, feeling his skin begin to change again
"I don't care what you are. Tomorrow you could show me you're actually a dragon with wings the size of me and I'd still stay by your side. What matters to me is that you're Loki. I don't care if you're blue." Astri said finally taking his hands when they had gone back to normal.
"Why?" He asked, closing his eyes and savoring how his hands felt in his.
"Because you're important to me," Astri said pressing her forehead to his "No one knows me like you do, and no one ever will."
No spoilers to the finale but I have never felt more devastated yet fufilled by a Marvel project ever. I don't think I've been this distressed since I watched Infinity War and had to watch Loki die and then 2 hrs later watch Peter "die" in Tony's arms.

I just don't understand one thing in Thor. Why did Loki lie to Thor about Odin's death, and Frigga forbidding his return?
When I heard the part where he says it was cruel of Odin to put the hammer within reach knowing Thor could lift it, it mirrored Loki egging Thor on during the beginning. And I thought may be the reason is much deeper than the surface level oh he wants Thor to get in trouble and because Loki wants the throne... I thought this part was him giving Thor the incentive to get the fuck better and shape up... To hammer in that his actions have consequences, consequences that he can understand and relate to on a personal level. But without a hope of being able to return to Asgard... I was unsure Thor would take that incentive instead of wallowing in his regrets...
So yeah I am unsure now. (I do know loki felt bad though. His eyebrow quirked up- something he only does when he feels and expresses his love for Thor)
hi thanks for your question...
consider this... LOKI was given confirmation of his suspicions about his origins after thor was banished. thor did not know.
and what was the reason for thor’s banishment? his bloodlust for the slaughter of the jotuns overcame all reason, and he was only pulled back from it by the arrival of odin, who put a stop to it all.
what do you imagine LOKI might have expected thor would do to him, upon discovering that the brother he was raised with was actually a monster (sic) in disguise? LOKI himself struggled to accept it.
i think he was just focused on having thor stay as far from asgard as he could be, for as long as LOKI could keep him there, for the sake of his own safety or life. and he might actually have expected odin to die while in the odinsleep anyhow, given what frigga said about it to LOKI.
LOKI also knew thor unfit to rule, and still sought to protect asgard from his childish tempers and whims... and now that the opportunity for real authority had somehow fallen in his lap, he had the chance to attempt both ends.
he discouraged thor from any dreams of redemption because it seemed to him the course with the least risk of harm. one person’s feelings over the safety or lives of many.
that’s my 5c... i could probably add more but it’s the middle of the night lol

How do you feel about Odin, because I saw lots of posts saying odin messed big time with all three of his kids but then you say you only said because it’s fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Thor 1, and only Thor 1, with ONLY the context of Thor 1, I can argue that Odin was just trying to reach out to his kids and couldn't quite manage it. That he was a good, but flawed father, who tried. That opening scene where he grabs their hands is extremely soft. Odin couldn't fight the Odinsleep and he had been putting it off, but rather than immediately go to sleep after Thor was banished he finds Loki to make sure he's okay. I genuinely think that if Odin hadn't fallen asleep, he could have talked Loki down from the rest of the chaos of the movie. When you add in all the movies after Thor 1, that's when I'm like "hmmm. no. with more context, you're actually a terrible person and father."
I've read so many fics where Odin is a good parent. I've written a few myself. I actually started a one-shot series, now deleted, of times where Odin was a good parent. I love the idea of him being a good parent, but I just don't see that as canon reality. With how he's treated his children, the combined evidence of how all of them turned out speaks volumes for how loved they felt. Even if we got to see Odin's perspective, that doesn't matter to me. Odin doesn't get to decide he isn't the bad guy to his children. What he did affected them permanently. Are his children biased in how they view him, so the audience is too? Yes. But again, Odin doesn't get to be the good guy just because his motivations are muddled and more complicated than we usually think of them as being. His children were victims of him and you can see that time and time again. That is something that I personally can't look past. Even if he had the most loving, deeply caring reason in the entire world to treat them like that, Thor, Loki, and Hela deserved better than what they got. They are not okay and if Odin had been a good parent, they would have felt loved and more secure. Being a bad parent is different than being a bad person, but Odin manages to get 2/2 with the context of later movies.
I said in the tags of a post I reblogged discussing Odin not being as horrible of a person as we consider him to be, the post you tagged me on, that "I write him as abusive because I find it interesting" and to be clear - I do think that Odin, with all the context of every movie we have, is abusive. I do not think he is physically abusive, and I didn't clarify that. There is little to no canon evidence of that, but THAT is what I put into my fics because I find it interesting. Physical abuse. It's not that it's the Worst Type of Abuse or that I'm trying to play everything up just because I can. IT's just one type of abuse that I want to explore. It's fanfiction. I am exploring the possibility of what Thor and Loki would be like if they were physically abused. I wrote a fic where Hela was the victim of human experimentation and like. I had fun. People love that story. It isn't canon and I know that, but that doesn't mean I can't write it. It's very canon-adjacent.
But, regardless of that, emotional neglect is abuse. Thor, Hela, and Loki in canon absolutely have symptoms of being emotionally neglected and somewhat have some of being emotionally abused, You can see Frigga being emotionally neglectful to Loki in the TDW, and the way Loki reacts to it suggests that he's not surprised and he is used to it. Odin tells Loki his birthright was to die as a child on a frozen rock and that he should be grateful to Odin for not killing him. You know. As a baby. Odin is extremely dismissive and emotionally neglectful of both Thor and Loki in the TDW. He compares the woman Thor almost died for to a goat and you can see that it hurts Thor, but he says nothing in his defense. Thor is severely depressed in TDW and you can see it everywhere, and Odin doesn't care. Frigga doesn't care. They ignore it because it's easier. Sif is really the only person to ask if he's okay, and that's at the end of Thor 1. That to me suggests that their home environment was not very healthy. You know that entire conversation of "reassurance" between Frigga and Thor in Endgame? That is a master class of emotional neglect. She didn't help him. She didn't listen to him. Not a healthy environment.
I think deep, deep, deeeeeep down in canon, Odin and Frigga wanted to be good parents - to Thor and Loki, they would leave Hela in prison for a 1000 years and be cool with it, oh wait they actually did - but they didn't have the time/energy/mental health to manage it. They're both the rulers of nine worlds, they don't have time to raise kids. Thor and Loki are vying for their attention constantly which suggests that it's a very rare thing to receive from their parents. Thor is the most attention-starved person in MCU in the first Thor. Emotional neglect!! I genuinely think that Thor and Loki more so raised each other than their parents.
So no, I don't like Odin. I think he's a complex character and I'm happy to discuss him in depth, but I think he is an awful, awful parent. Like I said, there is a distinction between parenting and the person, and Odin is a TERRIBLE parent. He's not an amazing person either, but I think he tried. Odin didn't decide to stop collecting realms on a whim, something must have happened that made him value peace over bloodshed. He told Thor and Loki that "a wise king must never seek out war, but must always be ready for it" so he was trying to be a better king and not leaping at things with his teeth bared. He tries to stop the war with Laufey. Idk. It's complicated. Canon is complicated. People are very rarely black and white and Odin isn't an exception to that rule.
There is a reason that him being physically abusive doesn't feel ooc, AND why him trying to be a good parent also doesn't feel ooc. A complicated man, to be sure. I don't really discuss Odin as a character that much, but I do think about him. He and Frigga are fascinating to me.

did you know that Loki tried to gaslight Odin?? 😃 Wow! I didn’t know it was possible to gaslight a coma patient.
Odin lied and tried gaslighting him first so i think it's fair even if he tried doing it back. an eye for an eye etc.

I was thinking and realized all three of the times Loki got a throne the current incumbent was incapacitated and the logical/expected heir wasn’t up to the job.
In 2011: the incumbent is Odin and he’s Odinsleeping (very dadly of him, btw), and the expected heir has been exiled because he wasn’t up to the job.
In 2013: the incumbent Odin is really old and has started willingly endangering Asgardians including Thor. The expected heir, Thor, refuses to be king.
In ??? (The end of season 2 of the Loki series): the incumbent, He Who Remains, is old and has made a Goldberg machine scheme to get a Loki to kill him and be his heir. The logical heir (Sylvie, who kills him) refuses to be queen.
Somehow three times Loki ends up in this situation. (No wonder he’s so good at time-looping!)

Heimdall and Thor's mother genuinely like Jane without even meeting her. Others don't like it or don't care.
Tumblr media
When Odin threw him on a backwater planet, he didn't know his son will find the next Queen there. As is shown, he has had many lovers before in his 1500-year-long life, but with Jane, everyone just knows he's dead serious about her.
Also, everyone just knows what happened on Midgard: Odin in his Odinsleep, Loki makes a r*pey comment about paying her a visit (what the f?), Sif and Frigga talk about her (though this could be Sif recounting her experience on Midgard to the All-Mother but the point is that they know), and of course, the all-seeing Heimdall.
I'm assuming the word spread (accentuated by the Warriors Three) and the general public also has an inkling about their Crown Prince's dalliance with a Midgardian maiden on his exile.
1. Odin is obv unapproving because she's not a blue blood like them - a royal or even an Aesir. She is as far away from being an ideal daughter-in-law as she can be. He pushes for Sif. And his argument for that is this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*clenches fist* We need to talk about this line.
This is his view of a Queen, that she'd serve the King like a servant by bearing him children and present herself to being used by him whenever he pleases. That's vile.
He's not in favor of Sif, he just wants Not-Jane. Anyone but a lowlife Midgardian. Why? Because her flimsy lifetime makes her unfit to 'serve' the King. And an Aesir woman would be able to do it better. The Aesir women 'lying' in front of him like things!
What's worse is that Thor doesn't even react to his father's abhorrent way of thinking :(, he's so used to it. Thor would never treat his Queen this way, jeez! But Reddit and Tumblr keep telling me how great it is that Thor is given parallels with this man in Thor3 and Thor4 as tho he was a positive influence on him :)
I thought Odin would eventually come around on Jane but his hostility only increases when Frigga dies 'because of her'. And he just never approves of her till he lived, not even for his son's sake :( I headcanon that Odin stayed near Thor and Jane's home when he was exiled by Loki and saw how happy Thor was with her.
2. Loki is actually understanding of how much wrong Thor is doing to himself by setting himself up for much bigger hurt. He should cut ties now when it will hurt less rather than later when she dies in a fraction of his lifetime anyway, leaving a gaping hole in his heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's right but no one understands the predicament my man was stuck in. He had already done what Loki is saying by breaking his promise and not going back so Jane could move on with her life and contented himself with looking at her from Asgard. But when she got in mortal danger because she was looking for him, he can't just leave her now. He had to do justice to her this time, All-Father be damned.
I find it fascinating that Odin's opinion of Jane was about kingship and Loki's was about love and companionship.
3. Frigga and Heimdall are fully approving of her :D She has all but accepted her as her daughter-in-law and given her blessings to them. She died saving her. What more can you ask of her?!
And Heimdall is the only one who knows about his longing for her (that little laugh when he first asks her if he can see her at the end of Thor1). He knows how much Thor hurt himself by asking about her every day when he was never going to go back.
Also, I'm certain the Aesir people will be pretty accepting of her as their Queen, given how peaceful they're shown to be. :)
