h-how do you ever finish any of your work? genuine question because you seem to be productive despite your agreste syndrome and I need to learn your ways. but also how do you ever finish any of your work
unclear. last night i stayed up and finished a report worth 25% of my grade at about 5am, arrived on time for my 9am lecture, and spent about half of it zoned out while thinking about seventeen year old emilie agreste. and i was one of the most active participants in the class discussion
#in some ways it IS the move to go to grad school right out of undergrad#because your body can still sort of operate like a college kid#i’m on about 3ish hours of sleep rn and this morning it felt SO over but now i’ve eaten something and we’re so back#i also don’t really do caffeine. except sometimes i’ll go get one of those panera death lemonades#i might be able to snag a short nap before work#but anyway about seventeen year old emilie. i was thinking abt how she was in that movie solitude and adrien said she was seventeen#WAIT. NO. HE SAID SHE WAS SEVENTEEN IN THAT PHOTO ON HIS DESKTOP NOT IN THE MOVIE#well. okay whatever i’m gonna tell you what i was thinking about anyway#OKAY i’m back i just checked the wikipedia page and then i watched the end of gorizilla. to make sure i’m not lying. because i’m normal.#anyway i was thinking about the solitude film and how it’s super rare and old and obscure and whatever. and how apparently#emilie wrote it herself and andre produced it#and i’m thinking about how gabe was discovered by audrey and that’s how he got his start in the fashion industry#so now i’m like?? did gabe and emilie first meet on the set of solitude? because gabe was designing costumes or whatever?#and that’s how audrey found him? have people already thought about this??#also i just checked and it doesn’t say emilie’s last name in the credits and also it’s ‘graham films’ with the twin rings logo m#so i’m assuming she’s still emilie graham de vanily at that point#anyway it comes back to seventeen year old emilie because i started imagining seventeen year old runaway emilie having her new life in pari#after escaping her british nobility life#and the first thing she does is write and star in an original movie. of course.#and she meets this repressed bisexual punk upstart costume designer who is so the opposite of everyone she’s ever known#and he’s immediately so unhealthily obsessed with her. which she appreciates.#and then they proceed to have the most toxic doomed evil relationship of all time#also she gets cheated because once gabe gets money he represses himself SO hard that he is now exactly like all the people emilie grew up w#but at least he’s still obsessed with her#this is what i was thinking about during class today. i don’t know how i get anything done either.#ml#anna rambles#asks

this is my Ricoh TF-500, aka "shitty lil baby"/"80s brick"/etc 💛💛💛 and the first selfie I took w it in the uni bathroom
#ricoh#ricoh tf 500#ricoh tf-500#film camera#i fuckin. LOVE FILM#took a class in high school and have kept on shooting rolls here n there ever since#i thrifted this guy in Oct 2019 (junior year of uni i believe) and it cost less than half of the price of its battery#yeah i bought a camera before knowing whether or not it even worked. went to goodwill on a whim and decided i wanted to find a film cam#and then i did. and then i put a fresh $14 battery in it and it MADE SOUNDS#the first time i loaded film (did it in the bathroom w the lights off bc we love getting extra exposures) it took me like. 5 tries.#which is real embarrassing bc i had the instructions. this is an automatic camera it advances the film for you. baby stuff#(shoutout to Michael Butkis for obsessively scanning old film cam manuals and uploading them on the web for free. you're a cool dude.#)#film photography#snowswords#i recommend this cam btw. the viewfinder's photo borders aren't accurate at all but that's my only complaint#and that's a forgivable crime. just stand a lil further back then you think you should#I've taken this cam around uni and my hometown and the pkng lot at work and tomorrow I'm bringing it on a hike w friends#who have their own film cams their relatives were keeping around!! both of em are skeptical about film but they'll see#or they won't. either way it'll be a fun hangout#and the day after I'm gonna see#horsesrcool22#and her horse!!!! I'll bring the Ricoh for that too!!#oh yes and the Ricoh joined H and me on a trip to H's fave used bookstore a couple months ago#i love this lil guy. it's from the late 80s and it's still kickin. how cool is that#film is so pricy tho (the rolls themselves and the cost of developing the negatives). a reason to vie for raises i guess#image id in alt text

just saw a neat little trio of sweden’s best bands live
#my phone died during the very last song lol but now i’m on the train and charging it again#it’s the sounds + mando diao + the hives btw and they were all really big in the 2000s which is when i started listening to them#so it was a very nostalgic experience even tho they all played a lot of new songs too#i’m so happy theyre all touring together bc they are really the top three bands from here imo (that are still active anyway)#sounds are from my neck of the woods and make indie rock/neo punk/new wave ish music and have such a fun and charismatic frontwoman#md have a very old school rock sound w influences from 60s garage and rnb. theyre super OG for me bc i heard their music when i was like 9#(ode to ochrasy album) and was like wow. this is music. this is the music i like#theyve dabbled in other styles since then and keep being p high quality but their og sound has a special place in my heart#hives def have the biggest cult following and are the oldest of the three i believe#they have a very high energy garage/punk sound and are more of a concept band than the other two w lore and stage names and all#all were great live (didn’t expect less) but the hives were obv the headliners and put on the biggest show#i always arrive early to concerts to queue so that i don’t have to stand super far away but i arrived there only an hour before#the gates were supposed to open (which was at five - then the show started at 6:30) and there was no one there???#i thought i couldn’t find the entrance so i walked around the whole area LOL but then i asked someone and turns out i was right at first#and there were only like 5 people there so when i entered i got right on up there yknow lol#at the railing at the front… wtf. was very surprised by this#and tbh it’s not something i want bc i’m afraid theyll ask me to sing during the audience interaction bits lmao#so i placed myself right behind a little lady so i had an excellent view of the stage#all of them def saw me. i take photos and film a little every now and then bc i’m obsessed with creating tangible memories which felt a bit#awkward i guess. but it was so cool to stand so close… howlin pelle of the hives grabbed my hand and also stood on the railing right in#front of me twice. but i was so taken aback i didnt take any pics of that lol#and i got lots of smiles from both maja of the sounds and björn of mando diao :)#actually björn noticed my retro sunglasses wearing ass dancing my heart out when they came out and smiled and nodded at me :)#there were a lots of people just standing there not committing so i at least tried to give some energy back#anyway i was exhausted this morning but now after standing and dancing for 7+ hours i still feel energetic

Hard to believe Nine Inch Nails' classic The Downward Spiral is 30 years old today! Here is some detail photography I took of the original album cover painting by Russell Mills for the 10th anniversary deluxe edition release, which I had the unique honor of designing, and somehow that is now 20 year old.
Everyone has that one album that hit at just the right moment of adolescence to change their perspective on music and get them through their teenage angst. The Downward Spiral was that album for me, released as it was in 1994, when I was a freshman in high school (and an absolute banner year for music/films/games all around). I must have stared at the artwork for hours over those years, without even much detail to draw from on its tiny 5” CD slip case. So five years later, when I found myself inexplicably working for Nine Inch Nails, it was surreal to see the actual original painting in the flesh, hanging as it was at the time in Trent Reznor’s office at Nothing Studios, New Orleans.
I was struck by how much dimension and texture there was in the artwork that never translated on that tiny slipcase printing, how much detail was happening in the physical materials of the art: Flies, moths, wires, blood… I had been staring at this “painting” for so long, yet suddenly it was like I had never seen it before. I also noticed that it had aged - the wires had wilted over the years, drooping down from their original position as captured in the original album cover (interestingly, judging by the photo posted today by NIN, the piece has since been restored); a tooth was missing from the other main piece.
That experience stuck with me and it was the first thing I thought about when the task of re-imagining the album package fell upon me in 2004. I wanted to re-photograph the artwork, subtly updating the cover to show that ten years had changed it physically, much like our perceptions of art and music and memories change over time with perspective. I also wanted to dig into the previously unseen details of the work and explore it with my macro lens, so that fans like me, old and new, could have new layers of texture to pore over for hours while listening to a legendary album.
Happy birthday, old friend.

israel posted a video of them giving water bottles to palestinians on a beach, then destroyed their luggage and shot at them after they stopped recording.
israel posted a photo of one of their soldiers "assisting" with an elderly man, then they shot him twice in the back and killed him.
in 2015, the idf posted pr photos of an israeli soldier giving water to an elderly palestinian woman, only for them to execute her after the photo was taken.
in 2005, an idf soldier emptied his rifle into a 13-year-old palestinian schoolgirl. he said he would have done the same thing if she was 3-years-old. he was acquitted of all charged.
israel claimed that hamas beheaded 40 israeli babies and then a month later cut off power to a palestinian hospital where premature babies were on incubators.
israel bombed a group of children collecting rainwater.
israel shot and killed two palestinian children playing with their scooter.
israel shot a hard of hearing girl in the face with a stun grenade and broke her jaw.
israel is using bombs with blades that are designed to cause maximum damage to the person in range.
israel forced medical workers at al-Nasr medical center to leave babies in incubators in order to evacuate the hospital they were bombing.
israel turned off power to hospitals in palestine, forcing nurses and doctors to use their phone flashlights when treating patients.
israel raised their flag over Al Shifa hospital.
israel has blown up the chambers of the palestinian legislative council.
israel targeted a "suspicious vehicle containing several terrorists”, meanwhile the only people in the car were three girls, ages 10, 12, and 14, their grandmother, and their mother. the only survivor was the three girls' mother.
israel planted a copy of mein kampf in a children's bedroom in a gazan house they claim hamas was hiding in.
israel poured fake blood onto the floor of an israeli child's bedroom and claimed hamas killed them.

israel was using white phosphorus on hospitals.
israel bombed a refugee camp.
israel has burned olive trees in palestine.
israel has put cement into the water supply of palestine.
israel claimed that they found tunnels under Al Shifa hospital, only for it to be exposed that those tunnels are actually in sweden.
israel built a bunker and command room under Al Shifa hospital in 1983, only for them to now say that they are hamas tunnels.
israeli police arrested an israeli high school teacher, who posted on facebook expressing sympathy with palestinian civilians who have been killed.
israeli soldiers filmed themselves throwing a stun grenade into a palestinian mosque.
we are witnessing a genocide in real time framed under the guise of stopping hamas. israel has been terrorizing palestine for as long as israel has existed, but their access to technology and social media has made it much easier to fool people into supporting them.
meanwhile, noah schnapp is posting that zionism is sexy and celebrities are standing with israel. just absolutely twisted shit.
edit: for those who would like sources, my twitter is alliiesmith. i have retweeted everything i’ve mentioned. i apologize for not providing this sooner
edit 2: i’ve had some people in the replies and reposts pointing out that linking my twitter seems like promotion. i just wanted to clear up that that was not my intention. i’ve been retweeting resources and news much faster than i’m able to add to this post, and i thought that my twitter profile could be something of a hub for information. i don’t care if you follow me, but i think scrolling through and seeing what i’ve retweeted could be helpful.
