Total Beginner's Guide to running a tumblr fandom event week

So, you want to run a fandom event, like a week (or a bingo), and you don't know how to get started? Here's a guide to the process. It's not perfect, and the best experience remains to try your hand at it! Anyone has tips to add, please feel free! My credentials are that I've run 4 events across 2 fandoms, and will be using those works as examples along the way. This is a LONG POST.

Collect data

You don't want to run a week that already exists. It's bad etiquette, and you could step on toes. It also could be bad for your event, because people who already follow the well established event blog may not bother with yours.

Beware too of timing clashes! People are busy and might not be able to do multiple weeks at the same time. That being said it's not rare for weeks to run close to each other with parallel topics.

For example, "X/Y Kink Week" will not necessarily appeal to the same creators as "X/Y fluff Week". And some motivated fans may want to do both!

Check your fandoms for blogs like this Star Wars events aggregator!

Another aspect of data collection is more hands on: go and visit the blogs of all the weeks you took part in, and all the ones you find as you browse, type random week ideas, see what pops up. Check fandoms you aren't in as well! Check out their art, their FAQ, their masterposts. Take notes. Better, copy paste all the great turn of phrases to workshop later!

There's no need to reinvent the wheel, if you see a couple of blogs have incredible FAQs and rules, lift healthily and apply to your own event (of course, no one likes plagiarizing, so use your own words). Save the banners and "brand art" from blogs that slap. If it arrested your eye, it probably worked for others.

Having a strong visual identity is important. We'll get back to that later.

Another point of data you want to look into is, well... Is there a demand for your idea? You may have seen these posts floating on your dash before, called "Interest Check". Even blogs running yearly events will set those up, floating date ideas, etc.

It's best to run such checks from your own personal fandom blog or by reblogging a post from your newly created event blog, to reach more people (assuming your followers are into that same fandom). Ask around on discord communities too. If no one wants to do it... You risk spending a lot of time and effort for little return.

But that's fine too! Maybe you're running this week because your 5 fandom buddies all want to do it, and some randos may join!

Don't be afraid if you don't get hundreds of notes. It's all proportional to fandom size, how many people you reach yourself, but also, such blogs get bigger when they're run over time. I ended my first Arcane event with 70 followers. After 3 events it has 216! Obviously any future "interest check" I do will reach far more people.

2. Sit down and think about it

I'm sure you've already been thinking a lot about that fandom week you want to run, but you need to think some more.

Is it around a very popular ship? Is the fandom very young and buzzing with creativity? > You might want to enlist several mods to help you out!

About mods... You can add them by clicking on your blog and going to members

Be careful whether you want someone to be an admin or a mod. As you can see, I can choose to leave, remove or promote mod 2, but I can't do anything to mod 1. That's because I made them admin, and the blog belongs to them as much as me. No mutiny possible!

Mods can't edit the posts made by admins (only their own). This power distinction is very useful when someone has a popular fandom week blog but no time to run the event, and wants friends or fellow fans to help, without losing final say on their blog. For example, I don't own the Obitine blog, but I ran the 2021 event as a mod since the admin (who I don't know!) had no time for it.

If you are not doing a specific ship but instead focusing on a character or a place or concept, what sort of ship will you allow to write for/depict?

Even if you don't want to touch the topic or anti vs. proship, people will label you on their own.

Do you want to ban certain ships to avoid expected backlash? Mishandling this can also make you look like an anti yourself and bring its own backlash. Not passing judgement on what the solution is here, after all you do you! Just know that people online will have strong opinions and may not be afraid to slug them at you, no matter how hard you try to stick to your guns. Running an event is stepping out quite publicly.

If your week is a "rarepair" week for example, how will you set the limit? Do you define a rarepair as "a ship under X amount of fics on AO3" or some other measure? Again, will you be allowing controversial pairings?

You'd think running a Gen event would save your ass, but the only time I received death threats was because I was reblogging someone Anon didn't like... On an event about parenting/mentorship!

Once you've decided on such rules, SPELL THEM OUT and stick to them.

Going back to the first bullet point, others have pondered the issue! Once you've decided on the type of event you're running, see how similar events managed setting boundaries.

Don't be afraid to make this a group effort and turn to your friends and server communities. You can also ask them for help deciding on prompts. Some blogs let their followers make suggestions, others don't.

Decide too what sort of medium you want to allow. Some weeks are fanart only. Some are fanfic only. Others encourage anything.

Think about tagging policy and whether you'll deal with NSFW content. You'll want to state clearly if there are things you won't reblog.

All those conclusions will be distilled into the rules of your event and included on your masterpost accordingly.

3. Create your socials

You've made up your mind, and it's time to make a new blog! If you think you'll love this whole fandom event shtick, make a vague URL. "Fandom X Event blog" can be used multiple times, vs. something like "X/Y Shipping Week".

I've seen people run their event from their personal fandom blog. You do you, but I don't recommend it. It makes browsing the event much harder.

This is when you best do an interest check, if you haven't already.

If you expect fics to be made, you can create an AO3 collection (an example). You can copy paste your FAQ and rules directly there. If you want more submissions (especially fanart or cosplay), create a matching twitter account and link the two (it's done in Settings > Blogs (select the fandom blog) > scroll down to "Twitter" > Share on Twitter).

This is exponentially more effort and some blogs never bother. This is all up to you!

On your tumblr, create a FAQ page and enable Asks so people can reach out with questions. If you don't know how to create pages, check this tumblr tutorial. New blogs can't create pages, so better get started early. At worst you can make a post for the FAQ, but a page is easier to find.

4. Decide on the date and stick to it

Just what's on the tin. Don't surprise people with a late date change unless you really can't help it.

5. Time to make some artistic calls

The benefit of having a distinct visual identity is simple enough to understand if you've done any scrolling on the hellsite. Your eyes quickly glaze over, and text posts (especially long ones) get skipped way more easily.

Having a banner for your event makes your posts more arresting and more recognisable. Save this for important posts of course, not every update needs a banner.

It can be very basic stuff, and if you're not good with graphics, ask around. Plenty of creatives in fandom, and I'm sure a friend will be glad to do that work for you, and if they don't work on the event itself you can shoot them an @ in thanks.

The most important piece of visual media is going to be the prompt list. Not everyone bothers making an image, but I recommend you do. You should still pair it with a text post, but many people (such as myself) will download that image and work from it, rather than hunting your blog down each time to check.

Ideally, your prompt image should include the name of the event, the prompts, the dates and potentially your # and socials.

Using my own material for example :

This post has the dates in the text, but not the image itself. I ended up making a lot of different versions of that prompt post, which allowed people to reblog whatever character they liked best and spread interest for the event, but I wish I'd put dates and socials on there!

This one is better, with the days being listed a lot more clearly with their date. But the thin white font isn't ideal for readability. And that's important! Don't go overboard with insane graphics, clashing colours, complex fonts and effects. You want people to be able to parse the image easily and without squinting. The pretty effects and dividers here are just a funky free font from the internet called Bergamot Ornament.

This one is the most inclusive. It also has the tags and socials! But ideally it should be 1 image instead of 2. It also makes good use of ALT description.

See here how the banner style of that last one was kept across the subsequent posts? And then across all the daily prompt art. This makes the event more distinct and identifiable.

I've done daily prompt art in other events too. They're definitely on the side of overkill, but if you're having fun preparing art for your event, why not?

5.b. Wait, what about the prompts?

You do you! It should be part of your research. If you're running a month long event, a prompt a day is best. If you're running a week, 2 prompts a day is more common, in case people hate the one prompt. Some people like to do word prompts + AU prompt + image prompt... In our trans event we had 4 prompts a day. In our bingo cards we sometimes had 2 prompts in a square! Multiple prompts can also help having a gen and shippy option in the same day (like "cooking together" and "first kiss" might result in very different dynamics, but people can also have fun doing a piece with a first kiss happening while cooking together!)

Pick what you like best, but less is more for a beginner.

6. The important posts

The main two posts are the one announcing the dates and the rules, aka the "Masterpost", and the one with your prompts.

The Masterpost announces the dates, the # for the event (pick something easy and UNIQUE!!), explains what sort of event you are, includes the basic rules, and links to your FAQ, all your socials and AO3 collections. This post is nice with a banner. See here (a bingo masterpost for a change)

The Prompt post includes the visual prompts, and the complete text version of said prompts, the date, the #, and a link to the masterpost. See the posts linked above. You'll want that pinned to the top of your blog until the start of the event, and arguably throughout.

7. Give yourself time, and now advertise

Don't get a week started too quickly! People need some time to see your blog. Getting started on preparations 2 months ahead is good I think. Not any less than a month, but you can play further ahead of time, especially if you run a lengthy interest check and involve fans in prompt picking.

A good way to be on people's dash a lot as you build to the week is to have posts and banners leading up to the event, as shown above. "Two weeks to go!" and "One week to go!", final countdowns, etc.

Part of your preparatory research should have you browse the archives of popular event blogs, to see what sort of posts they made in the lead up to the event.

Be careful with how you tag your own posts, as they will be appearing in tumblr searches. Make sure your posts show up in the important tags.

Don't neglect discord! Servers can be quite insular, and if some of your friends are on multiple servers, they can help you promote the event more widely. Word of mouth can really do wonders. I've learned about weeks solely because someone mentioned working on some prompts in a discord server!

Opinionated advice : some people like to reblog art ahead of the week to build hype. I have done it myself in the past, and in the end I strongly suggest you don't. Being a blog dedicated to promoting a concept (a ship, a character, etc) is different from running an event. Going back to people having opinions about you... Some artist may resent having their art shared on an event blog, as it makes it look like they contribute to said event. Maybe they don't want their work shared to a greater audience. Maybe they don't like your philosophy, the other ships you sail, etc. Of course you could always reach out for permission! This remains a personal choice and a matter of etiquette, but I think an event blog is more professional when sticking to its event content.

8. Follow your own tag

Type your event tag in the search bar and hit the follow option. This will create a shortcut, whenever you click on the search bar! It works on mobile too.

Once the week gets started, you'll discover that people don't follow the rules, no matter how you spell them out and how much you plead.

You might beg people to @ your blog and use #ThisEvent2022, and they'll still go ahead and not @ you and post under #this event.

I tend to also check such adjacent tags to cover all bases. I've caught a few people that way.

9. Running the week itself

This is by far the easiest part, and to make it even easier you should decide how you'll use tags ahead of time. Keeping a pattern is nice. It's tidy and helps navigating the blog long term. It'll help you too if you decide to create a masterlist of all entries for example. Bear in mind that people won't be able to find your reblogs by keyword searching tumblr directly. They'll only see the original posts. So the tags on your own reblogs are only for the purpose of archiving and to help people reblogging from you have basic tags suggested to them.

Character name, character ship (A x B, A/B, or Ship Name), character quality (Like Trans Character or Pirate Character), type of art (gif set, fanart, fanfic), Your event tag, fandom tag, any potential AU or NSFW tag, artist handle.

This is a thorough tagging system that works well for events with multiple characters or ships. Adjust accordingly!

Then it's a mix of checking the tags and your notifications! Kudo, reblog... Up to you to decide if you post all in one go, throughout the day, and how long you'll be checking the tag for late participants.

You'll also have to decide how to juggle cross-posting to twitter or from twitter to tumblr, which is less easy. Brush up on Twitter etiquette. I'm told asian twitter likes Quote Retweets, while the Western side of Twitter sees them as stealing notifications and traffic from the artist. Keep an eye on artists who post on each platform, and reach out to those who don't to ask if they're okay with you crossposting. When going Twitter > Tumblr, make sure to include a very clear link, and the #Artists on Twitter tag.

If you have mods, keep an eye out for mistake-reblogs, as it's a very easy mistake. Try to spread work around too. Maybe someone is in charge of Twitter. Maybe your co-admin is up while you sleep and will keep an eye on the blog, etc.

You don't have to do daily prompt posts, but my personal philosophy is that they can be useful to followers, and if they get passed around it's more advertisement for your event, so it can't ever hurt.

Regarding AO3, people might struggle to find your collection. I don't know why, it's happened to me with my own collections, others' too. Have a clear and easy collection name, and give people the exact word they need to enter. It may not show up in the menu, but the fic will still be added to the collection. Make sure the collection is open too, of course.

10. Wrapping up!

When the week is over, you can make a big old post thanking everyone who participated, mention highlights... This is when you'll want the masterpost to become your pinned post, instead of the prompts one.

And for a very clean blog (or after other events on the same blog) you can create a multi event (or year) masterpost that stays pinned between events. This would contain links to your AO3 collections, event tags, information like whether you're still open to late submissions or not, etc.

11. Okay but what about Bingos? Month long events?

The same rules apply!

Bingos are very similar in practice, except you have to make Bingo cards, either yourself or using free online tools. The easy way is to have 1 card for everyone. The more intensive version is to have more options and randomize cards, handing them out to anyone who asks. Most "free" online tools limit you very quickly, so that's more work.

You share the bingo card like a prompt list. People tend to use your card and "cross off" their entries, so making it look good is also important (and also why randomized cards take more time).

Bingos can be done over a week, but a less hurried pace is better, as the final/most OP version of bingo is to do the entire card, and that amounts to a lot more than 7 entries! You want to give the crazy people dedicated fans more time!

Some events run over a month, with daily prompts, others with weekly prompts, etc. Have fun making your own format, but a week is a good starting point.

Today is not only September 1st and time to head back to Hogwarts, but it’s @greenmegsnoham​‘s birthday! Megs is a fellow snek who is a master of many trades, so here’s a custom nameplate and a mix of recs of all her fandomy things! I first started seeing Megs around in the Rare Pairs and Drarry servers, but I didn’t get to know her until fests! She participated in a few fests I signed up for too, and then I claimed her Flintwood prompt for Quidditch Fest 2021 (aka this is what had us gushing about this ship to begin with). She was also one of the first folks to join the Wizarding Creators Den server when I first started it almost a year ago (wow, time flies!). When I heard Megs’ had a HP podcast, I was naturally intrigued, and started listening to episodes since late last summer. I joined the @careofmagicalshippers server, and well, the rest is history! If you don’t know what Care of Magical Shippers is, it’s a Harry Potter ship culture podcast where Megs and co-host Nathan dive into the when, why, and how for various ships! From OTPs to the rarest of the rare, they’ve got you covered. They’re full of giggles, but they also go into some interesting and in-depth ideas and dynamics for all the ships they discuss. Each episode I’ve listened to so far has given me something new to think about. The server community Megs has cultivated for the podcast has been a great place to meet like-minded folk too. It’s inclusive and 1000% embraces fandom etiquette to allow readers and creators to like what they like, feel safe and be their authentic selves. There’s a monthly fic club, as well as a few bingos, Ministry Mayhem (aka crack and chaos) and other creative activities for people to take part in if they fancy it. I’ve never seen a community or a podcast like CoMs before, so it’s really refreshing that Megs has taken the reigns to carve out a space that gives love to pretty much any ship you can think of (yay for all of the rare pairs, tropes and spicy things! 🌶️). It’s obvious Megs is passionate about what she does, and she genuinely appreciates all the people who make up fandom (readers, mods, reccers and creators alike). It shows in the way she screams about a lot people’s creations, shares all of the creator events she knows about, and just the general hype she creates about so many different ships is something you want to join in on. Not to mention, she’s not afraid to be goofy or geeky. We absolutely need more of that humour, especially during such a weird time right now. What a hilarious episode! But also, Megs, Nathan and Danni shine an amazing light on how Hermione and Fleur can bring the best out of each other with their determination and their strengths. They are more than just women. They’re capable women who strive for what they want, who come from different backgrounds where they can learn and benefit from each other, and they’re more than what people stereotype them as (ie. beauty or brains, or whatever else). 🎙️ >>> Flintwood: 🪨 + 🪵 = 🔥 (Marcus Flint/Oliver Wood)

Summary: What happens when Flint meets Wood?? You get FIRE!!! This episode is all about Megs and Nathan’s BestieTP, Flintwood! The ultimate Rivals to Lovers!!

This episode is here, not just because Megs and I have screamed bonded over Flintwood so much, but because there is some good emotional and deep content discussed that we normally wouldn’t pick up right away when we see these two together...until folks dig into all the fic, characterisations and possible backstories that exist. Yes, Marcus and Oliver can get physical, rough and rowdy, and there is so much tension between them, but there are so many reasons why (aka denial of feelings). They may have different personalities, but they’re two sides of the same coin. One of my fav episodes so far. 🎤 >>> Versy Weasley, Lover of Wood 👓🪵 w/ Geoff (Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood)

Summary: Perciver is the ship of choice the week, and the perfect Nerd x Jock pairing! Megs and Nathan are joined again in this episode by Geoff (aka DreamQuaffle)! Fantastic Percy-centric discussion to be had, lots of giggles (obviously), and features ANOTHER fire of a fic by Geoff! Get ready for the SPICE!

I loved how silly this episode was! Yes, I am a Perciver shipper, but what I really appreciate about this episode is how Megs, Nathan and Geoff go more into Percy’s characterisation, how Oliver complements him (and vice versa), and the potential of both of them being on the neurodivergent spectrum. It really does make sense when it comes they’re fanatical and sometimes over-zealous tendencies about anything they’re super passionate about (like each other). If Megs wasn’t already busy enough with the podcast, she’s also a fest mod! She ran @hpshipuary, a daily ship challenge, this past February and she is currently modding @hpcestfest (claiming is still open until Sept. 9th) and @hpfacultyfest (which is still open for claiming, and works start posting today). She does all the graphic design work for everything listed above, she’s an artist (check out her art) AND she writes fic! I have no idea how she has time to do all of these things, but gods, I am so impressed. Honestly, I think Megs must have some ridiculous superpowers to juggle everything. Amazzzing.

I had no idea I needed this ship until I read this?! Gosh, soulmates and the amount of feelings this fic has is pretty mind-blowing. So I’m usually not one for infidelity fics, but this one just worked. It reminded me of my uni days where many people (myself included) were told to find someone ASAP to live happily ever after, and sometimes, that’s not how life works. Sometimes, you do need to go with your gut feeling, and this is what this story embraces. Also, Bill is just hot in this. I gotcha, Harry. I see what you see. ❤️ >>> I’m not broken (Drarry, T, 455)

Summary: Draco should want to have sex with his boyfriend...shouldn't he? 

Oh, this is gorgeous. This fic captures such a vulnerable and important moment for Draco, and anyone else who identifies as ace. We’re always told about love and sex and how they need to be linked together, but that’s not the case! You can love someone like Draco loves Harry, and sex doesn’t need to part of it. Also, there’s more than relationships than sex (as well as a whole spectrum of attraction and other things in between). 🧹 >>> Yes, Daddy (Scorpius/Harry, E, 11.5k, mind the tags)

Summary: Scorpius loves his Daddy. But no one knows. Not even Harry. Especially not his father.

OKAY. I usually don’t seek out fic with age difference, breeding or daddy kinks much, but I have to say, this was smokin’, and it’s a fic that’s hard not to re-read or think about. There’s humour, and I adore Al and Scorpius’ friendship. Not onlt that, but damn, the smut makes you sweat 🥵 and goes to a whole new level. Megs worked some magic with this one, since you know, I’m cool with reading more fics with these kinks now. But also, Harry and Scorpius are actually just so tender with each other. And Draco is dramatic as usual, what else is new? 🤣 💼 >>> It’s Yours (Neville/Percy, E, 3k, mind the tags)

Summary: Neville's interview for Percy's secretary takes a very interesting turn...

Sooo, this one doesn’t have Harry in it, but if you like Top!Percy, praise kink, power play and boss/employee dynamics, this is the fic for you. Also, Megs pointed out there needs to stories where Percy’s taking the lead. I agree, and she’s making it happen. I don’t know what the hell it is, but Percy not only being in control in the office but when it comes to sex is very appealing. And seeing this from his perspective, which shows what motivates him to do the things he does and to get what he wants, and Neville just handing all of that over...yes. There 10000% needs to be more of these two! You can find more of Megs’ work on AO3. Make sure to leave kudos and comments to show appreciation for all of her fandom contributions. Gabe tries not to sigh as he and Dean watch The Untouchables for the sixth time this year. It was a decent movie, but six times felt like a bit much. He just couldn't understand how Dean was able to watch it so many times without growing tired of the plot.

"Can you actually taste sugar?"

"What?" Gabe moves off the arm of the couch as he turns to look at Dean. Why was he asking that out of nowhere?

"Can you actually taste sweets?" Dean repeats the question not with exasperation but mild curiosity. He holds his head up with his right hand perched up on the back of the couch. The hunter doesn't even bother to look away from the tv. Gabriel glances back at it as Wallace uncovers Capone's tax fraud.

Gabe stares at Dean. Was he suddenly interested in angel functionality? Why? He could get it up just as well as any human. Dean finally glances over in his direction. It's followed instantly by a roll of his eyes.

"Oh come on. Stop looking at me as if I've grown a third head. Angels can't taste food. Cas said." 

So that's what this was. Gabriel makes a big show of sighing now. He lets out all the pent up sighs he had been withholding throughout the entirety of the movie. Gabriel stretches his arms out.  For a second he's tempted to let a bit of his actual form out. To stretch all the way out towards the ceiling of the bunker. The chances of accidentally blinding Dean were too high to actually give in to the urge. Instead, he falls into Dean's lap. Arms now folded, comfortably under his head. "Did Cas say angels can't taste food or that they can taste every molecule within said food?"

Dean opens his mouth but quickly closes it again. Swallowing his words, perhaps even literally. "Uh,"

Gabe smirks. "Yeah, that's what I thought."

Dean frowns at the tv. For a moment Gabe assumes he's satisfied Dean's curiosity. He folds his legs over each other over the couch's arm and makes himself. He was just about to roll his head back towards the tv too when his eye catches on Dean's furrowing brow. This conversation wasn't done yet. Finally, he breaks his silence again. "What's the difference?"

"For most angels, the being able to taste so much makes consuming food and drinks," Gabriel pauses searching for the best word. Finally his tongue lands on, "unpleasant."

Dean looks down at Gabriel. The color of his green eyes would be difficult to make out in the dim light if he was human. Another perk to being an archangel. He could still see those hunter green jacket eyes even in pitch darkness. "Meaning?"

"Meaning that it's an acquired taste Dean-O. It's like," Gabe throws his hands up as he thinks. Dean swerves his head back. Barely getting his face out of the way of Gabe's hands in time. "like, well picture a pie."

"Done." Of course that wasn't difficult for him.

"Now imagine that pie contains not just one flavor of pie in it, but all the flavors of pie."

"That's a lot of pie." Gabriel could see the gears turning in Dean's head now. He also made out the sound of Dean's growling stomach. He'd get him some dinner and pie after the movie.

"Exactly!" Gabe sits up. "But somehow it all fits in a normal-sized pie, and every bite you take tastes of all the flavors of pie in the world at once. Scratch that, in the galaxy."

"Some of those are not going to taste good together."

The archangel shrugs. He leans against Dean's side. "Yeah but some taste really good together and you're tasting it all at one with every bite."

Dean leans his head from one side to the next as he mulls over the thought. "Okay."

"That's what eating is like for angels. We taste every different molecule the food is made of. Hundreds of thousands of bits of food in our mouth all at once in every bite."

Dean's nodding now. There's a shoot out happening in the movie. Which one Gabe wasn't sure of. At this point, he'd lost all interest in the film. He lays back down in Dean's lap. "So why do you eat so many sweets?"

Good question. Worst timing. Now he was actually craving something sweet. "Well at first it was out of curiosity. I wanted to know what humans' food tasted like when I first came down. News flash wasn't that great, but it was simpler. Less to take in when I ate it."

Dean's hand absentmindedly starts to comb through Gabe's hair. He wasn't paying attention to the movie at all now either. It had officially been regulated to background noise. "Then it became about keeping up my façade of being the trickster."

Gabriel frowns at the thought of Loki. Quickly he pushes on. "Eventually the food actually became enjoyable. It was easier to just passively take in the taste of it all, and sweets were the best! They became more sugary, so the molecules started tasting closer to one another. Which made it easier to stuff my face."

A faint smile forms at the edges of Dean's mouth. "So you like sweets because they all taste the same?" This was nice. Talking about something so casual. So much of their days were filled with monsters and world-ending notions. Dean was typically so stressed that they barely talked at all. Well more like he talked and Dean would listen as they worked. Gabriel was enjoying this change of pace so much that he almost forgot to answer Dean's question entirely.

"Not exactly. It's like I can tune out more while eating them. I don't have to think about how the molecules are supposed to taste together to actually taste them anymore. Passively tasting."

"Oh. So it's like beer. Some of it you just drink to drink and the taste stops mattering."

"Yeah. Sure big guy. Only I do it for the opposite effect."

Dean stops running his fingers through Gabe's hair to scratch at his chin. "Okay I think I get why you eat sweets. So why do you eat them in my bed?"

"Why not?" He rolls over in Dean's lap. Now on his side and able to watch the movie. People were yelling at each other, but that was all Gabe could pick up.

"Because I actually sleep unlike you and I enjoy a clean bed."

Okay, this wasn't going to get dropped. He rolls back around to face Dean again. "Yeah and I enjoy a snack on occasion." Gabe playfully cups the side of Dean's cheek in his hands. "Beside sometimes I need a pick me up after our fun."

"You have wings. You can bamf anywhere, eat, then come back." Dean insists and Gabe could tell he was just annoyed more so than anything else.

"Yeah, but why go through that all that effort when I'm already in your bed."

Dean looks down at Gabe. A dull, tired expression on his face. "I'm not going to get you to stop, am I?"

"Nope." Perhaps he's won this already.

"Alright." Dean pushes Gabe out of his lap.

"Hey!" Gabe sits up on the ground as Dean walks away. "Dean-O where are you going?

"To angel proof my room."

Gabe rolls his eyes. "Come on you're not going to do that."

"Oh really? I've got the chalk in my room."

Gabriel scoffs. "Yeah right." After a few moments. "Dean! Dean come on! You're not really gonna kick me out just because of a few candy wrappers are you?" Gabriel stands up staring at the hall Dean just left through. No answer, but he can hear Dean start sprinting down the hall now. Realizing Dean might actually go through with it Gabriel unfurls his wings. The race had already begun.

What's the Rare Kink Summer Bingo? How does it work?

It's an event running June 21st thru August 31st in which creators of all kinds come together to produce content based on simple kink-based prompts. You'll receive a bingo-style card (through Discord or Tumblr, to be provided in the sign-up link at the bottom of this post) in which each square has a different kink listed. Your challenge is to fill as many squares as you like by creating content based on the prompts. You could set a goal to get bingo, or even to fill the entire card!

All creations are welcome, whether it be fic, art, graphics and moodboards, soundbites, fanvids — it's all up to your imagination. You may use one creation to fill multiple squares if you like.

From the moment you're finished with your work, you can post it on AO3 to the collection linked at the bottom. Post as often as you like!

Do I have to be in the Shyan Shipping Society Discord server to participate?

No, any Shyan shipper can participate! Although you do have to be 18+ and you may want to join the server just to be up to date on all the recent news. You will need to provide either a Discord or a Tumblr account for us to use to communicate with you.

Can I produce works for ships that aren’t Shyan?

Absolutely! Anything that is B-zzfeed/ex-B-zzfeed or W-tcher Entertainment related is fair game. (For example: W-rth It, the Try G-ys, Kelsey D-ngerous, the K-tchen and Jorn Show, etc.). You can write Shyan, Standrew, Steshyan, Colim... whatever ship you feel like creating for!

Can I submit an existing fic to cover squares?

No. It must be written, posted to AO3, and submitted to our collection during the event dates. Fics posted before June 21st or after August 31st will not count.

What do I get if I participate?

To celebrate every creation, each square you fill will get you an entry into our drawing. Each entry sets you toward winning a month of free Discord Nitro, or a month of Witness tier Watcher Patreon subscription, sponsored by the server! If you fill the whole card you'll get an extra three entries. We'll draw two winners. Everyone who fills their whole card will also get an honorary role in the SSS server for their service. (Of course, if you're just in it for the creations, you can always opt out of the drawing and roles if you like.) In order to enter your creation into the drawing you'll need to submit it to our collection on AO3.

What if there's a kink listed that triggers me or squicks me out? I want to have a chance to fill the whole card.

We have set aside some extra "stickers" that we can put over top of any kinks that are triggering or squicky or you. When you receive your card via DM, you can message back with the kink(s) you'd like to be replaced. We'll put the "stickers" over it and return the card to you with new kinks! (Your card will not look any different, but it will have new kinks in place of the old ones, and be numbered a little differently so we can keep track.)

I honestly don't know if this has been done before 😅 but...

I tried to curate all of the important dates in Inuyasha fandom. Mostly are celebration events for pairings and families that are canon per Rumiko Takahashi (appear or mentioned in the animanga), held both on tumblr and twitter, but I also put some rare pair/crack ship events in it. I was hoping that by collecting it all in one place, then we could have a one big timeline for (nearly) all our weekly or monthly events 😁 So it would be easier for artists and authors to track which event they wanted to participate in or maybe it could be used to just simply keeping up with their schedules, because after writing it all down I've realized that our fandom's agenda are packed 😂😂

Some of the events I wrote already have fixed dates for this year's celebration, but there are others that haven't as well. For those with no specific date yet, I put the estimation when will it be held e.g. mid September, end October, etc., based on its last year's schedule.

It’s good to be on top of the food chain and to be rich in the world you are living in.

“Choose, honeybun,” your father coos, the moment you enter the auction. “They are all waiting for you to choose the mate you want. No one is off-limits, Y/N.”

When you walk further into the room next to your father all eyes are glued to you. You never liked the attention but being your father’s daughter means to be headstrong and, of course, to get what you want.

“I can choose anyone?” you whisper, glancing at the alphas chained to the floor. Most of them pose and try to impress the younger omegas, all of them but two. There is dirty-blonde alpha, protectively standing in front of another alpha. 

“Y/N, it’s your choice,” smiling your father kisses your hair, and the omegas in the room swoon. Every girl would like to change places with you. “Go ahead and have a look. They are all chained up.”

Your stomach tightens when one of the guards barks orders at the alpha the dirty-blonde alpha tried to protect. The younger alpha falls to his knees, whining low in his throat.

“Enough,” you step toward the guard, keep him from hitting the dirty-blonde boy as he tried to defend the young boy. “That’s my chosen alpha, both of them. If you dare to lay a finger on them again, you will end up in one of the special houses.”

“Your alphas?” the guard immediately jumps backward; eyes widen in fear. “I’m sorry, miss,” he stammers. “I only tried to make them pose for you.”

“I already chose them,” you quip, waving the guard of while you crouch down to check on the younger alpha, ignoring the dirty-blond alpha snarls in your direction. “Get me water and food. He looks hungry and scared,” you run your hand over the boy’s hair, whispering soothing words. “I, Y/N of Y/L/N choose those alphas. I will take them with me. NOW!”

“You heard my daughter,” your father orders, pointing at the alphas you chose. “Free them and brand them.”

“No,” you growl, glaring at your father. “I will mark them later, not here. No one will have a look at their bodies but me—” you kneel next to the elder alpha, patting his hand. “Don’t worry, I will not touch your brother, alpha.”

“Stay behind me,” the alpha whispers when you enter the room, “let me do this, Sammy.”

“Oh, hi,” you close the door, looking at the younger alpha cower behind his brother. He shakes in fear, glancing around the room. “I’m Y/N”, you slowly step toward the elder alpha. “I asked Ellen to get you new clothes and food. She will be here any minute. You can have a shower meanwhile. I’ll be right back with a mating collar for you.”

“Mating collar?” the elder alpha cocks his head. 

“I won’t brand you, alpha,” you step closer to look up at the alpha. “We are no animals nor cruel. I don’t want to do this to you are your brother but, I must protect you,” he flinches when you try to touch his cheek. “I will not hurt you, okay.”

“Says the girl buying us,” the alpha sneers and you sigh deeply. He seems to be used to lies and pain. “What will you do to us now?”

“I-I don’t know what to do with an alpha,” you bite your lower lip, nervously chewing on it. “I just—when that guard scared your brother I knew I must do something. Law forbids me to help you but when you are mine—”

“You can step in and defend your property,” the younger alpha pokes his head out from behind his big brother. “I’m Sam, nice to meet you.” He gives you a soft smile, hoping you will not hurt him or his big brother. “That’s Dean, my big brother.”

“Hi,” you giggle, shaking Sam’s hand. “How old are you, Sam?”

“He’s fourteen, still a child,” Dean grunts. He balls his hands into fists, ready to defend his baby brother at all costs.

“I-I don’t want to hurt him,” you sniff, starting to cry. “I didn’t want to choose an alpha. I don’t even know what to do with one. I—can you tell me what to do please?” eyes filled with tears you look up at Dean. “My father said an omega must know what she wants at the age of eighteen, but I don’t. I only want to read or take care of my dog.”

“Mate an alpha and use him,” Dean huffs, glancing down at you. “At least you’re a young omega. Not one of those elder creeps wanting to us.”

“Did they touch you?” the alpha shakes his head, eyes dropping to his shoes. “Dean, I will not hurt you or your brother, promised. But—uh,” shuffling from one foot to the other you glance up at the alpha, “you must sleep at my room, sorry.”

“The smaller room is for Sam,” you explain. “See, you can keep the door open and see your brother. The rooms are connected. You will always know your brother is safe.”

“Good—” Dean watches his younger brother poke his head into the room. 

“OH! BOOKS, Dean! So many of them,” there is no holding back for Sam. He runs into the room to have a look at the bookshelves. “I love them.”

“You can read them all,” following Sam into the room Ellen prepared for Sam you smile. “There is a bed, a desk, and a small wardrobe. The bathroom is right through that door,” you point at the second door in the room. “It’s all yours.”

“Dean, look!” Sam excitedly takes a book out of the shelves, flipping through the pages. “The origin of alpha and omega.”

“I tried to find out why almost all alphas are gone. Something must’ve happened. Ages ago alphas were the ones ruling this world and then,” you snap your fingers, glancing at Dean. “Poof, they were merely slaves to omegas. This doesn’t seem right.”

“Damn right,” you sigh when Dean glares at you. “No one should sell other people. This isn’t right. I want to choose whom I go to bed with.”

“I will not,” you giggle, eyes dropping to the floor, “touch you, Dean. I don’t even know how to do it. I—uh. Shit, that’s so embarrassing. All my friends already know how to cuddle with an alpha.”

“Cuddle?” Sam cocks his head, smirking when his big brother’s face flushes red. “Aw, Dean doesn’t know how to cuddle either.”

You nod thoughtfully, hiding you feel your heart flutter close to the grumpy alpha.

“We should get some sleep. Goodnight Sam,” you hand the young alpha a book, telling him it was always your favorite. “If you need anything, just holler.”

“Thank you,” the young alpha smiles before, to Dean’s surprise, he wraps his arms around you to hug you. “I’m glad it was you choosing us.”

“Relax, your brother is safe and asleep. The door is open, you can see him anytime,” Dean glances at the king-size bed. “You can have the left side. This way you can see your brother when you wake.”

“Uh—okay,” Dean swallows thickly when you strip your dressing gown off, carefully placing it at the end of the bed. “What do you want me to do now?” he asks when you crawl under the covers. “Omega?”

“You can call me Y/N,” you sigh deeply. Dean eyes you like you’re an enemy or a monster wanting to hurt him. “I’m tired, we should sleep now. Tomorrow we can get you more clothes and all you will need. Maybe I can get a room for you and Sam. I’m not sure my father will agree, though.”

“Why did you buy Sammy too?” Dean sits on the bed; watches you snuggle in your pillow. “Omega?”

“That man hurt your brother and he would’ve hurt you for defending Sam. This is just not right. I could never imagine someone sells me and my siblings. It’s a cruel world we are living in, but this doesn’t mean I have to be cruel too,” you close your eyes, smiling when Dean finally lies next to you.

He crawled to the edge of the bed, not wanting to be close to you, the girl buying him. “Please don’t hurt my brother. I’ll do anything you want to, omega. Just don’t hurt Sammy or let anyone hurt him. He’s still a kid.”

“I would never hurt Sam or you, Dean,” when you turn around to carefully touch Dean’s arm he flinches away. “Sorry, I didn’t want to scare you. I-I had no choice. I refused to choose an alpha twice. My dad loves me, but people started to spread rumors. He said I must choose one today, so I chose you, knowing you don’t want to please me.”

“Warm,” you mumble, slowly blinking your eyes open. When you wake from your slumber you realize two things. Dean turned around in his sleep and, he wrapped you in his arms. “Dean?”

“Just a little longer mom,” he mutters, nose buried in your hair. The alpha holds you tightly, refuses to let go of you even though you started to wiggle in his embrace. “Mom, why are there men?”

“Dean, you are dreaming,” you whisper whilst the alpha’s breathing speeds up. “Dean, you need to calm.”

“Noo! Don’t let them take us away. Mommy, please,” Dean whines, holding you painfully tight. “Please—no.”

“Dean, you are having a nightmare,” Sam gently pats his brother’s head. “You need to wake up. It’s alright. I’m safe, you are safe. Y/N is nice.”

“Sammy!” Dean wakes up screaming. He pants against your ear, still holding your body pressed to his chest. “Where? Who? Oh—” he remembers you saved him yesterday.

Dean would never admit he watched you from the moment you entered the auction, hoping you will buy him. But then he remembered, he needs to protect his brother.

“You’re safe,” mumbling the words you gently run your hand over the arm holding you. “I will not allow anyone to hurt you or your brother, I swear. I don’t know how to take care of an alpha, but I’ll learn.”

“Omega,” he releases you from his tight grip, sitting up, to look at his brother. “You okay, Sammy? Everything alright?”

“I had a shower,” the younger alpha smirks. “It has great pressure, Dean. Uh—and their kitchen is like a ballroom. Ellen made me breakfast. Fruit loops and an apple! I had orange juice, Dean. Fresh pressed orange juice.” Sam excitedly tells his brother.

Just now you realize Dean and his brother must’ve been starving. You didn’t remember to offer a snack before bedtime.

“Oh, are you hungry? Damn it, I’m a bad—” you don’t know what you are to Dean so you bite your tongue and jump out of the bed. “I’ll ask Ellen to prepare breakfast for you too. What do you like?”

“I?” no one asked Dean for the longest time what he likes so he doesn’t remember. “Pie?” he shyly glances at you, huffing when you giggle at his request.

“Pie, got it,” you smirk, giving Dean a wink. “What else?”

“I can have more?” he wonders aloud. “I mean, bacon and toast, I guess. Maybe some coffee and eggs too?”

“Eggs, bacon, coffee, and some pie,” while you grasp for your dressing gown, asking Sam about his wishes his elder brother watches you with curiosity. “I’ll order lunch too. What do you want?”

“I don’t know?” oddly shy Dean swings his legs out of the bed. “Why don’t you decide?”

“No-no! You are my guest or—” you bite your finger, looking at Sam for help. “A friend and I want you to feel comfortable. Any wishes?”

‘Leave us alone. Let us go. Change the world.’ Dean thinks to himself. “Burger?”

“Aw, you like burgers too! Bacon cheeseburger it is, Dean,” patting Sam’s head you giggle when the younger brother follows you toward the door. “What do you want Sam?”

“Salad and chicken, please?” Sam carefully tries. “If it’s not too much to ask for. I dreamed of chicken.”

“Of course, Sam,” the lump in your throat grows when the young boy looks up at you with big wet eyes. “Anything else?”

“A coke?” 

A week later your father returns from a business trip, demanding your report about the alphas you chose.

“Sam is young, but I always wanted a little brother, father,” you lie, hiding you wanted to save the boy. “The elder alpha will be mine. But, we will not sell the younger alpha, Sir. He will be mine too when he’s at age,” another lie easily slips out of your mouth.

“Is the elder alpha potent?” your father casually asks. In this society, everything is about mating and having an heir. “Can he give me grandchildren soon?”

“He loyally fulfilled his duty,” you will go to hell for lying so much, but how can you tell your father you would never force Dean to touch you. And that you are too shy to even watch Dean redress. “I think he will give you strong grandchildren, father.”

“Good, that’s good,” your father waves you off. “I have a business to do this week, but I’ll have a look at the alphas next week. Have a good time, Y/N.”

“Thank you father,” you nod, giving your father your sweetest smile. He’s not the monster in this story, but he doesn’t try to change the world for the better either.

Money and power are all he cares about and you, of course.

“What do we do now?” you pace your bedroom, glancing at Dean. It’s another week later and your father wants to check on the alphas. “I told him you fulfilled your duty. Gosh, I got no clue how to get pregnant without…” you trail off, glancing out of the window. “Do you think a pillow under my shirt will make him suspicious?”

“Omega, that’s stupid,” Dean grumbles, shaking his head when you think about possibilities to fake a pregnancy. “Maybe we should…”

“No, I will not force you to mate me,” pressing your index finger to Dean’s plump lips your shake your head. “We are friends, right? Friends don’t do such a thing.”

“Friends, right,” the alpha nods while his brother rolls his eyes. Sam already got that Dean is head over heels for you. The elder alpha just can’t admit he likes you. “Sammy any ideas?”

“Uh—I’m a kid. How shall I know?” Sam shrugs.

“This is serious, Dean,” you sit on the bed, clutching your hands to your chest. “Father is still the one in charge. Law says you and Sammy are mine, but if you can’t give me an heir father will break the deal and take you away from me. I’m scared he will give you to someone else or even worse, separate you from Sam.”

“Why do you care so much?” scooting closer to you to pat your hand Dean steals glances at you. “You paid for me. I’m yours.”

“This is not what I want,” crying you hide your face in the palms of your hands. “My mom, she hated this world. She would be ashamed I bought you and Sammy.”

“You did it to save us, omega,” Dean purrs next to you. It’s the first time you hear the deep rumble leave his chest and you are immediately calmer. “We are going to find a way, okay.”

“Okay,” you sniffle, wiping your eyes. “He will expect us in two hours at his office. Wear the mating collar and don’t talk. Father, he doesn’t like it when people look at him.”

“Can Sam stay here?” again Dean tries to shelter his baby brother and you nod, glancing at Dean.

“I’ll try to talk to father. I lied and told him that I want Sam to become my mate when he’s at age. Father believes I wanted a little brother, so—”

“Got it,” Dean nods, giving you a soft smile. “I’ll try to do anything to not mess things up. It’s just a few minutes, right?”

“Right.”

“Good choice,” your father circles Sam and Dean like they are his prey while the alphas kneel on the floor. “The elder one will give you strong children. The younger alpha can take over his job when the other gets too old. You are a smart omega.”

You love your father, you love him dearly but right now, you’d like to punch his face. He lifts Sam’s face with his index finger, and you must place one hand onto Dean’s shoulder to calm him.

“Can the younger go now? He should get some sleep. I want him to go to school to match my knowledge,” you insist, stepping closer to Sam.

“Just a few moments, honeybun,” your father steps toward Dean to grip his chin tightly. You clench your jaw, not liking the way your father looks at your chosen alpha. 

While Sam cowers next to his brother, watching you step closer to Dean to make your claim on him known, your father glances at the mating collar around Dean’s neck.

“You didn’t brand him,” he tuts, shaking his head. “We will fix this now,” your father barks orders at his men while you try to find a way to spare Dean the pain.

“No, I don’t want anyone to ruin his skin. It’s perfect,” you protest, stepping in front of Dean to protect him. “I gave him the mating collar and will mark his mating gland. I’ll give him my mark.”

“Nonsense,” your father waves you off, even tries to shove you away. “Y/N, if you don’t let me brand him, anyone could steal your alpha.”

“It will ruin his skin,” you cry, when Ketch moves into the room, holding the still glowing metal in his gloved hand. “NOOO!” you bend over Dean, protect the alpha with your body. “You will not do this to him! He’s mine!”

“I paid for them,” voice colder now your father watches you whip your head toward him. “I will not brand the younger one yet, but I’ll do it if you don’t let me mark your property.”

“Y/N, please let them do it,” Dean whispers. “I will wear your mark with pride omega,” you choke out a sob when your father drags you away from Dean. You must watch one of his men cut Dean’s shirt open before Ketch rams the burning iron into Dean’s shoulder.

Oddly Dean doesn’t make a sound. He only looks at you, nodding when you rush toward Sam to press his face into your chest. You don’t want the boy to watch the cruel act your father commits.

“It’s done, honeybun. Now he’s yours. When the boy is at age, he’ll get marked too.”

“I’m so sorry,” you carefully apply a new band-aid to the branding, sniffling silently. “I didn’t want him to do this to you. How could he? Now you think I’m just like the others.”

“You saved Sammy from getting hurt too, sweetheart,” your heart flutters at the pet name and Dean’s rough voice calling you like that. “I know you tried anything to stop them. Hell, you covered my body with yours.” 

“Sam is finally asleep,” pressing a soft kiss to the band-aid on his shoulder you sigh deeply. “He shouldn’t have witnessed this cruel act. I should’ve fought harder, Dean.”

“No,” Dean rasps. “C’mere here, Y/N,” he watches you sit next to him. “I meant my lap, omega. If you want to calm me, let me scent you.”

“Scent me,” biting your lower lip you glance at Dean. You heard that the scent of an omega can calm the angriest alpha, but you never thought Dean would seek your closeness. “O-kay.”

You carefully crawl onto Dean’s lap to hide your face in his neck. “At least I don’t have to wear that ugly collar anymore,” he jokes whilst you start to cry again. “Don’t cry, sweetheart. None of this is your fault. It’s this world, not you.”

“We must do something,” you sniffle. “I don’t want to do this to Sam too. What if my father changes his mind and sells him? I can’t live like that. I need…no I must do something.”

“You want to do something,” humming you lift your head to meet Dean’s heated gaze. Before you can rethink things you press a soft kiss to his lips.

“Oh—shit, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done this, Dean. I’m awful—” he presses his lips to yours, cups the back of your head to deepen it. His tongue swipes over your lips and you moan, feeling his cock swell against your thigh.

“I know how to do something about it, but this involves more than a kiss,” he smirks, pecking your lips again. “A rebellion it is, sweetheart. If you want to help to change the world, let’s rock the boat.”

“Rock the boat,” you tilt your hips to feel his erection against your core. “I will do anything to help you.”

“I know,” he purrs, nuzzling your cheek with the tip of his nose, “we will change this world one day, Y/N.” 

Two months passed since your father branded Dean. The alpha learned to duck his head whenever your father’s men or your father are around.

But during the silent hours you can spend alone, he turned out to be a cocky and grumpy alpha.

He only smiles on rare occasions but it’s enough to make your heart melt when he does. Sam said something about his mother betraying them, but you didn’t have the heart to ask the young boy about it.

You saw it in his eyes, it must’ve been something awful happening to Dean and his young brother. “You look good in that shirt,” Dean muses, watching you lie on the bed, covered only by one of his shirts, well the shirt you bought for him.

“Do you think we can find more people supporting us? It would be great to have an army, not just two people,” you frown when Dean crawls onto the bed to kiss his way up your legs. He spreads your thighs, smirking when you wiggle your hips.

Dean has you wrapped around his pinkie, and he knows it. “The world will change one day, Y/N,” he looks at your panties, groaning when he gets a whiff of your scent. His cock swells once again and you give in, let Dean have his way with you.

The lines blurred long ago. You don’t feel like the dominant part of your relationship. It’s the other way around. 

When Dean is inside of you he's in charge. He tugs your hair, slaps your ass, and rules your body with skilled hands while he takes you apart.

INCEPTI…WHAT?

Inceptiversary is the yearly celebration of Nolan’s 2010 film, Inception.

Every July the fandom gets together to create and support fan work, discuss the film, and meet like-minded individuals to talk about all things Inception. Inceptiversary runs on average 5-6 weeks, featuring a multitude of events ranging from spreading positivity, to competitive writing, to collaborative fan works.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

THEME WEEKS

Each week we focus on a different theme in order to celebrate the breadth of fan works and encourage diversification. Some events center around these themes, such as @inception30daychallenge​  and  @inceptionrecs​. Outside of these events, we invite everyone to share meta and fanworks pertaining to the below themes.

Week 1 — Introductions & First Times

First week is short, and sweet. We’re keeping it simple! Introduce yourself, your favourites, your headcanons. Think back to your first days in the fandom and share your personal experience. Share your favourite first time fics—i.e. first meeting, first kiss, first job, first-whatever. 

Week 2 — Arts & Entertainment

This fandom is so creative we have a wild amount of alternate universes. From The Royal Ballet to Hollywood, from Home Improvement shows and Culinary Showdowns… This week we celebrate all the headcanons and alternate universes that showcase this fandom’s artistry and continued skill at entertainment.

Week 3 — Into the Unknown

We continue in our celebration of this fandom’s creativity by bringing into focus everything paranormal, supernatural, mythical and magic. 

Week 4 — Gen & Rare Pairs

Dream Husbands is by far the most popular ship in the fandom, but what about the rest of them? This fleet has so many other ships, and this week we celebrate them, putting rare pairs, friendship and familial bonds centre stage for all to discover and enjoy. 

Week 5 — On the Go

Is it a boat? Is it a train? Is it an airplane? Yes, yes, yes! It’s all of the above. This week we’re on the move, be it on foot, on the run, in a terminal, on the tube, or under a parachute.

Week 6 — The Days of Future Past

This week we keep it simple and celebrate pre and post canon. Bring all your origin headcanons, backstory meta, favourite pre- and post-canon fanfics, and tell the world your thoughts on what the might be like in a world post-Inception.

Arthur/Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing (AELDWS)

Elimination drabble challenge. Every week, drabbles are written according to an assigned Genre, Word Count, and Prompt, and every week, voters will eliminate one writer (with one double elimination) until there the last drabble writer is left standing!

This year this challenge will run for seven weeks, from July 2 to August 19, with 9 participants.

Today is a good day to remember that fandom, no matter who you ship, stan, adore, despise, thirst over, love to hate, make art of, or write fic for, is fiction. Take what joy you will from it, cry over it when you must, theorize and debate until the sun comes up, but at the end of the day, we're all discussing imaginary people, and it's not worth bullying anyone over or getting bent out of shape for.

Going Up

Summary: "One aspect of humanity it was taking time to get used to was how bloody slowly they had to move."

A/N: Thanks to @slytherkins for looking this over and @firefly-in-darkness the fancy divider. Gif credit to @slashersivi . Incidentally, you can blame Slytherkins and @demonologist-in-denim for their combined influence in putting this in my head in the first place. It's finally finished!

One aspect of humanity it was taking time to get used to was how bloody slowly they had to move. He had gotten used to the ability to blink himself anywhere on the planet, and now every form of transportation left to Crowley seemed to move at half the speed of eternity. Admittedly, things were a lot faster nowadays than they were in Fergus MacLeod's lifetime, but they were still a downgrade from his time as a demon.

The adrenaline rush that came with taking out a monster, one of the better parts of hunting, was as close as he could get to vanishing from one place and rematerializing in another. Before they got to that point, though, it was a long slog of research, followed by an even longer road trip to the case itself, which left Crowley plenty of time to decide how much he disliked driving.

"You know, we could fly and be there in less than half the time," he remarked as he stowed his duffel in the trunk of the Impala on the morning of their second day on the road.

"Or," Dean replied before he slammed the trunk shut on their luggage and the arsenal hidden underneath, "we could not fly and not worry about getting half our gear through security."

Fair point.

"We'd make better progress on literally any major highway," he argued hours later as they moved along some podunk back road lined on either side with fields and one-traffic-light towns.

"I make better progress when I'm not staring at the same set of tail lights for hours on end," Dean argued back.

Fine, so maybe the scenery was a little better than what the interstate offered...sometimes. It still ate up more of his existence than he cared for. It was insulting, really, to go from teleporting from one side of the globe to the other, to needing to stop and gas up before crossing certain states only to pull over for the night halfway through the journey.

"Would it really kill you to get on a plane once in a while?" he asked after their journey finally saw them parking outside a high-rise in a reasonably sized city. Their first interview was with a wealthy heiress whose father robbed his own bank two days after he dropped dead of a heart attack, and according to the address in Dean's hand, she lived on the top floor.

"I don't trust planes," Dean groused. "I trust my Baby, and she's never let me down."

"Trains, then? Something, Dean. Think of it. Time, efficiency, fossil fuel and emissions, save even more than the innocent public."

"Don't listen to him, sweetheart," Dean said over his shoulder as they walked away from the car. "He's just cranky that he can't pick the music."

"Well, while we're on the subject…" Crowley muttered.

"If I'm going anywhere," Dean insisted, "my Baby is taking me. And no commentary from the peanut gallery about going faster is going to convince me otherwise."

Crowley rolled his eyes. "Fine, then. When we're done with this case, I'm taking a cab to the airport."

"You know what? You do that. You enjoy the delays, and the crowded terminals, and the bad food, and the kids that keep kicking your seat or the lady in front of you reclining back into your personal space or the guy snoring and farting next to you, and Baby and I are going to enjoy the open road, just the two of us. And you know what?"

Crowley turned to Dean, eyebrows raised expectantly.

Dean drew out the answer far longer than was necessary, clearly relishing the fantasy in his head. "I'm...going...to love it."

"Honestly, Dean, I worry you'd love it too much," Crowley replied. "And rather than tag along as a third wheel, I'd rather fly home and leave the two of you to your…" He paused for consideration, then finished. "Fascinating affair."

Dean's brow furrowed for a moment, then he rolled his eyes with a grimace. "You know, I'm not even gonna ask…"

Crowley smiled and they entered the building. It was everything he expected it to be on the inside: sleek and pretentious without an iota of elegance.

"I suppose you want to take the stairs," he remarked as they crossed the lobby, "given your commitment to the path slowest traveled by."

"Actually…" Dean thought it over, then gave a pleasant smile. "We should take the elevator. Why go slower than we have to every time?"

Crowley raised his eyebrows in surprised amusement. "Oh, indeed? Without the slightest fuss? I didn't expect such character development." They reached the elevator and he signaled it, then stepped inside the car and stood aside to let Dean on.

Dean made to follow as Crowley hit the button for the top floor, then ducked back out. Crowley did a double take, then started forward. "Dean! What the hell are you--"

"Race you to the top, smart ass," Dean replied with a sly grin as the door slid closed and the elevator began to move.

Crowley threw his hands in the air, exasperated, then leaned back against the wall of the car. What, was he going to take another elevator?

Bloody Winchesters.

A soft ding sounded and the car shuddered to a halt, called to a stop on the second floor. The door opened and he stood aside to let the newcomer in, but the hallway revealed itself to be empty. Crowley glanced out just in case, and there was no sign of anyone at all.

The door slid shut again and the sudden motion of the car nearly threw him off balance as it resumed its journey up, but he recovered and returned to his place against the wall. He should have known by now that taking shots at Dean's precious car was a surefire way to ruffle his feathers, but was Crowley to blame if Squirrel made the business of feather ruffling so bloody easy? And was it too much to ask that they shave some time off their commute once in a while? He was prepared to argue his case again, but that damned fool had jumped ship at the last possible moment.

He snapped out of his reverie as the elevator stopped again. He heaved a sigh and let his head fall back against the wall and the door opened, but there was no sound of anyone getting into the car. He lifted his head and frowned slightly, in search of whoever called the elevator, but there was only silence.

His eyes narrowed and the elevator began to move. A glance at the readout above the door told him he was on the third floor out of fifteen, and he would already be nearly to the top if it wasn't for--

The elevator stopped at the fourth floor. 

"Oh, for the love of--" He broke off with a huff of annoyance, folded his arms, and tapped his foot. A sneaking suspicion introduced itself in his mind, and it was a stupid, childish, ridiculous idea, but so very Dean…

When the elevator stopped at five, he leaned out far enough to listen, but there was no sign of the bowlegged menace. At six, he could almost hear retreating footsteps in the distance. At seven, he distinctly made out labored breathing and heavy footfalls, and it became more and more obvious. Dean was running the stairs and calling the elevator on every floor.

At the ninth floor, he leaned against the wall beside the call button and bent nearly double as he gasped for breath by the time the elevator stopped. Crowley slid his hands into his pockets and raised an eyebrow at him. "Can I give you a lift?"

Dean didn't seem to have the air to answer.

"I don't know how long it's been since you ran stairs, Squirrel, but if you pass out halfway to this interview, I'm going to leave you here and talk to Little Miss Heiress on my own, then maybe pick you up on the way back down."

A dismissive wave was the only reply.

Crowley put out a hand to hold the door open. "Dean," he said sharply, "get in the bloody lift."

Dean rolled his eyes, but got onto the elevator.

"Stubborn arse," Crowley muttered. They made the rest of the trip to the top floor uninterrupted, leaving precious little time for Dean to catch his breath and plenty of time for Crowley to roll his eyes and shake his head at the absurdity of it all. They paused outside the heiress' door and Crowley smoothed his hands over the wrinkles in Dean's jacket, straightened his tie, and gave him a pat on the cheek. "Given the varying states you continually put yourself in, you clean up rather nicely," he remarked. "Have I ever told you that?"

Dean blushed slightly and knocked on the door.

"It's remarkable, you know," Crowley said as they left a quarter hour later. "You ran nine flights of stairs and winded yourself so severely you nearly lost consciousness, but you didn't even break a sweat."

"I don't sweat under any circumstances," Dean scoffed as he called the elevator.

"Is that so?" The elevator arrived and they stepped on, and Crowley added, "I seem to recall you were a bit hot under the collar a few nights ago when, in quite the role reversal, I wasn't moving fast enough for you." He glanced sideways just in time to see Dean shift awkwardly and swallow hard, and he grinned to himself. "How long did I keep you on the hook? I'm afraid I lost track of time, I was so entranced by the way you whimpered, squirmed, and begged--"

"I don't beg, either," Dean cut in gruffly.

"Not in so many words, darling, but trust me, there wasn't a single, glorious inch of you that wasn't desperate for that sweet release I just wouldn't let you have. From the way your toes curled, to the tension in every muscle, to the twitch and throb of your swollen, needy, much-abused co--"

Dean grabbed him by his lapels and forced him back against the wall. He leaned in until there was only a scant inch between their faces, and Crowley could smell the morning's coffee on his breath. "You know, you've been running your mouth an awful lot the last few days," he said, low and serious, "and I'm getting kinda tired of it."

Crowley looked from those plump, perfect lips to those Disney princess eyes, and down to the fists clutching his jacket. "And manhandling me in a lift is your solution? Come on, Dean, you know I'll enjoy it too much."

"Not hardly," Dean replied. "I'm thinking we should finish this hunt, get you somewhere I can go as slow as I damn well please, and we see how long it takes until you're begging for it."

Crowley smiled. "Well. You certainly know how to get a girl's attention, don't you. But you forgot one thing."

"Yeah? What's that?"

He leaned to the side and hit the emergency stop button. "Patience isn't one of my virtues."

Introducing Rare Egg Hunt 2021

What is Rare Egg Hunt 2021?

Rare Egg Hunt 2021 is a celebratory prompt event for everyone who loves rare ships involving Solas of Dragon Age. Content creators are encouraged to spend the month of March “painting their eggs” to prep for the Egg Hunt in April. This way you can start queuing your content now for April.

Who can participate?

Both fancontent creators and consumers are encouraged to participate in the event! Content creators will spend the month of March writing fics, making art, creating moodboards, making song playliists, etc featuring their favorite Solas rare ships.

On April 1, creators will start posting their content to tumblr and/or on AO3 where we’ll be hosting a voluntary collection for you to add your works to. Use the tag #RareEggHunt2021 and/or mention @rare-egg-hunt so we can be sure to reblog your content to this blog. Before April 1, we’ll release “bingo cards” for content consumers to complete throughout the month of April with items like “comment on a fic with kissing” or “reblog a fanart piece in black and white”. The ultimate goal will be to complete your bingo card before the month is up and “win” the egg hunt.

What counts as a rare ship?

Any ship involving Solas which has less than 300 published works on AO3. This means female Solavellan wouldn’t count, but male Solavellan would. However, this would not exclude female Solavellan polyamory ships, i.e. Female Lavellan/Cullen Rutherford/Solas (which only has 17 published works on AO3).

What fan content is “allowed” from creators?

We encourage and will reblog any of the following:

Fanfiction (including links to AO3, drabbles, flash fic, and other short fic formats) Fanart (including links to AO3, sketches, fancomics, and everything in between) Playlists/fanmixes AMVs Askbox games/memes/mini-prompts Cosplay photos or videos Image/photo sets Gif Sets Headcanons Textile arts Fanfic Rec Lists Fanart Rec Lists

Please note this list is NOT exclusive and other fan content featuring ships may be reblogged. We do ask that you follow AO3 terms of service and do not post prohibited content there (i.e. fanmixes are not allowed on AO3).

What content isn’t allowed?

We will not accept any of the following:

Content featuring underage characters (younger than 18) in sexual situations.

Content featuring nonconsensual sex (consensual nonconsent IS allowed) or incest.

Content that discriminates against a marginalized group.

Content that is not tagged appropriately.

Content which features a canonically gay character in a sexual situation with a character of the opposite gender.(i.e. no Sera/Solas. Some leeway is allowed for true healthy polyamory situations - Sera/f!Lavellan and Solas/f!Lavellan, where Solas and Sera are onboard with sharing Lavellan, but Sera and Solas would not interact sexually.)

Content from creators who leave negative comments on the works of other creators during the event.

What do I win if I complete the Egg Hunt?

Besides internet points and a ton of new Solas rare ship content? Not much, honestly. We’ll be providing some graphics you can post on your blog or social media profiles for bragging rights which you can claim at the end of the event if you complete your bingo card. You’re on the honor system for claiming them, and if you really feel the need to cheat at internet Solas egg hunting, that’s between you and whatever deities you do or do not believe in.

Any other rules I should know about?

Please do not start posting your content early! You can start posting on April 1 in your time zone. Anything in the tag or that mentions us prior to that date will not be reblogged.

Please only tag your own content. Yes, fic and art rec lists count as your own content for the purpose of this event!

For nsfw content please tag using #lemons for the benefit of those scrolling the tags to be able to filter out nsfw content.
