Humanity hit that threshold long before you were born.

The peace treaty between species made it possible to live among the stars. Some races were willing to share their planets, while others offered space in their ships.

'It's almost like exchange students, but for life- you'd become one of them.'

You didn't feel at home on Earth. Ever since your first breath, you had no place on that planet.

So up you went. 'Above and beyond,' or whatever they told you. Usually, humans who wanted to leave had forms filled out and uploaded to the exchange system.

If you had to call it anything, you'd describe it as 'adoption'. You, specifically, were adopted by yautjas. The deadliest species in the treaty.

You packed your bags, taking your 'goodbye pack' the government provided you with. Laptop, tablet, and other human things 'so the adaptation wouldn't be so harsh'. That's what the flyer said.

"We wish you luck and success in your new life among the stars. It's an honor to have an earthling as brave as you out there."

That's what the video said.

You sling your bag over your shoulder and pick up the government packs off the floor, walking toward the hangar in your papers. You and some others behind you get in line for admission.

Seeing yautjas wasn't new. There were videos and pictures of them plastered everywhere, just like the other species of the treaty. But still, your eyes widened from their bored expression when you saw your admits standing in front of the ship, datapads in hand.

You're first in line, walking up to them and presenting your registration. They repeat your name and information, and you confirm everything, waiting patiently.

"Welcome to the clan." One of them says, nodding at you. You nod back and make your way inside. The ship is a transport shuttle, spacious and high-tech. This was happening. It takes you a second to choose a seat and strap yourself.

The information speech you're given during the trip feels warmer and more welcoming than anything you've heard on Earth.

'Maybe this was a good decision.' You think.

"From today on, you'll be part of our society, which means no special treatment. No special conditions. No buts and ifs." He keeps talking. "Just life as a yautja in a mothership. That's all."

You appreciated the clarity and honesty they had. You expected it to be hard but weren't afraid of working for it. Whatever challenge presented itself for you, you'd beat it. You had survived this far. This wouldn't be different.

Your group gets taken to the housing levels, where each human gets assigned a room. Your eyebrows rise up when you see two grown yautjas in yours.

"Get up, Fang. Our partner is here."

Fang and Claw. Two youngsters from the clan you got accepted into. Written in bold letters at the end of your papers. "Hey," you say as they approach you at the door. "Good trip?" The other one, Fang, asks.

"Yeah, good trip," you answer. You had no idea they'd be so big. "Are you guys really my age?"

"Are you 124?"

"Oh man."

Despite their scary looks, Fang and Claw are what they are. Young. And a little stupid. You somehow felt at home with them. It was nice to be treated like a person and not a number for once.

You get installed in your bunk bed, pull out your laptop, and test the 'fastest internet connection in the galaxy' they had on the ship. A direct link to Earth, in case you want to talk to anyone.

You just wanted access to the shows.

"What's that necklace?" Claw asks. "What's in it?" You look up from your screen, then down to your chest. "It's a wolf necklace."

"Your previous clan?"

"They don't have clans, just families," Fang replies. Claw frowns in confusion, "So your previous family?"

"No, not my family-"

"That's a wolf- so Wolf clan,"

"Claw-"

"I like it," he continues. You smile at the sheer absurdity of it, "Cool to wear your symbol like that."

You laugh softly, "It's not my symbol- it's from a show, a story- the Witcher. In the story, the Witcher comes from a school whose banner is the wolf. Their symbol is the wolf," You play with the pendant between your fingers, "I don't really have a family."

They both stop to listen to you explain. Claw shakes his head, "But you wear it, so it's your symbol. Wolf human from the Witcher school. A Witcher," the word sounds weird when translated from them, clearly adapted.

"Wolf human," Fang repeats, "Nice title, sounds strong. You should keep it," he says. You huff in amusement. "Sure, I'll keep it,"

They barely return to their own unpacking before you look up again. "We should watch it," they look back at you, "- the Witcher-, we should watch it-, sometime." You clear your throat awkwardly.

"It's a filmed story? Like the ones in the human culture lessons?"

"It's called a 'movie'. Idiot."

"Shut up."

You put your hands up before any growling appears, "It's a series- actually. Short episodes that make up for one long thing. Good to watch in between, ah-, training? Missions? Whatever you guys do?"

Claw nods, "Wolf-human story with the wolf-human, I'm in." You smile and look at Fang. "Is there blood?"

"Lots of it."

"I'm in."

You watch the first season during your first night at the ship, only pausing to retrieve your food and for general discussion between the yautjas about how accurate (or stupid) the fighting scenes in the show were.

You have to plug your laptop into the adapted port on the wall so you can keep binging with your roommates, smiling ear to ear whenever they'd say something positive about it. When you finally close your laptop down, you look at them again. "So, thoughts?"

"Don't fuck with magic," Fang says. Claw nods. "Never fuck with magic."

You laugh as they each settle down in their bunks. Fang shuts the lights off as you lay in the dark for a bit more.

"Sleep well, wolf-human." Claw says. Fang mumbles something in return. You smile again, bidding them goodnight before closing your eyes to sleep.

Home, sweet home. Finally.

Pairings: established Echo x Reader

Warnings: Echo has phantom limb pain. I made the executive decision to have his legs amputated to the knee. Some miscommunication, but it ends well.

Notes: Is Wrecker my Bad Batcher? Yes. Is Echo quickly taking over my heart? ...Also yes. I am Soft for him.

You don't remember why you're awake, you only know that you're vaguely conscious and swimming in the dark of your room. Something shifts on the bed, heavy and foreign, and for a moment your sleep-hazed mind thinks there's an intruder, but then you hear the soft exhales of your lover, the shaky, unsteady trembling of his body radiating into the bed, and your anxiety stills for a moment before reigniting again.

"Echo?" Your voice is coarse from sleep and you still can't make out the shape of him until one of the lights on his headgear blinks. A yawn washes over you. "Mm. You okay?"

There's a moment where you think his breath catches, then, "I'm fine, cyare. Go back to sleep."

Sleep is calling out to you. Your eyelids are heavy and you can feel crusties in the corners of your eyes still. The blankets are perfectly warm enough, everything is just right for you to simply slip into a dream and Maker do you want to, but... it's just not the same if Echo's not lying next to you. And truth be told, you miss him even when you're sleeping.

So you worm your way across the bed to curl up around his body like a lothcat, your head near his hip and your torso curved around his backside so the rest of your body balls up and nestles into his other thigh. You could fall asleep like this. For a moment, you almost do. His body heat is radiating through his sleepwear and yours, and there's a gentle movement to the bed that's enough to lull you into unconsciousness like you're a youngling all over again.

But something bristles uncomfortably in the back of your mind. Because Echo's not talking to you, not touching you like he usually does when you snuggle. He's rigid and unmoving, except for the jostling of his leg.

Suddenly the world is in perfect focus, screaming into clarity as you rocket from your daze to full, attentive consciousness. You're scrambling into a sitting position and it's tossing Echo around a bit as your knees dip into the mattress, but he doesn't say anything, doesn't make to stop you. This is wrong.

"Echo?" You grasp at his shoulder, gentle but worried. "Love? What's wrong?"

He shakes his head, but he doesn't look at you. Something is very wrong.

"It's nothing, I... can't sleep."

You lean into him, take his chin in your hand to turn him toward you, even though you can't really see him, and you feel how tense his jaw is. He'll break a tooth if he clenches much harder. Your hand wanders down to his thigh, soothing over the muscle until you realize he's got a hand there too. It's pressed into the space just above his knee, kneading the muscles with enough force that you know it hurts. But you also know it can't hurt much more than whatever pain he's already in.

"Cyare," you chide, but there's not much bite to it. You're more worried than upset with him for trying to hide this. "How can I help?"

You both know there's nothing you can really do. This phantom limb syndrome, as the medics have termed it, is as perplexing to them as it is to Echo. They still can't figure it out, how to stop it, how to ease his suffering, and you know that's not their fault. The medics have done their best to help him, but it doesn't quiet the rage that simmers low in your gut every time the man you love is doubled over with pain.

"Stay," he grits.

"Always," you promise as you settle yourself behind him, one arm draped loosely up and over the shoulder to settle on his collarbone. Your other hand stays on his thigh and rubs gentle strokes over the trembling expanse of his muscle.

You stay like that until the pain subsides, until the frantic thumping of his heartbeat stops pounding into your skin, until your knees are stiff from kneeling and your lower back twinges a bit at the awkward position, until your love finally sighs and slumps back into you. He's exhausted now and some of your own fatigue has started to creep back in and whisper in the back of your mind.

"Come back to bed."

That's all it takes for your trooper to settle in beside you. You let him maneuver himself however is comfortable for him, although if he let you you'd absolutely wrap your every limb around him and never let go, bury yourself in his scent and warmth and the wiry strength of his arms until the world went away, until it was just the two of you. But his nose resting in the curve of your shoulder, his breath stirring your hair, a scomp on your waist, and a leg between yours will do nicely.

You're already drifting off when you reach blindly for his scomp arm, nearly knocking him off in your confusion. The metal is cool against your lips when you kiss it.

"Mm, love you," you manage between sleepy mewls.

The breath in your hair and on your neck stutters. Then comes the sound of your name, deep and rough in Echo's throat. You sigh happily and give his scomp another kiss.

"Love all of- oh," you yawn, "all of you." And then you're cuddling it like it's some plush tooka doll and you're five years old, pulling his arm over your shoulder so you can tuck the tip between the pillow and your cheek and nuzzle your nose against the base. "Doesn't feel right t' sleep without you."

His voice rumbles to life at your back. "You're too good t' me."

A snore jolts out of you, snapping your head up to attention for a moment as you try to stay awake just a bit longer, just for him. "Uh uh. Not good 'nough. F'r you."

A final thought passes through your brain then. My Echo.

His voice draws you out of the darkness. You're not sure if it's been two seconds or two hours, but you mumble into some sort of awakened state at his beckoning.

"Cyar'ika?"

Your brain wavers between awake and asleep for a few long moments. Echo or sleep? Echo? ....Or sleep? Both sound good. Sleep sounds better right now.

"Mm." It's little more than a graceless grunt, a little grumpy on the fringes.

The lukewarm metal pressed into your face shifts and you grumble in frustration as it starts to disappear. "Stop... Lemme slee-...." Your mouth is too tired to work properly. And then you fall back asleep for a breath, only to be jostled back awake by the sound of your snoring. "Shuddup."

"Cyar'ika?" he says again, and you turn over a little to look at him better. You can only see the lights on his headpiece.

"What?"

Echo chuckles softly. His nose rubs up against your cheek. "You really mean it?"

The fuck is he talking about? Sleep is tugging at you and you're fighting it with everything you have just for him to start talking nonsense?

"Mean what?"

His kiss on your cheekbone soothes your irritation a hair. "I'm yours?"

You deadpan. "Oh. Mm, yeah, honey," and you turn back onto your side so you can finally get back to sleeping.

Someone snores again. Annoying. The shape of a scomp arm is carving itself into the side of your face. The warmth at your back shifts, it breathes and trembles a little, and then a hand slides over the crown of your head.

"Marry me."

You're nodding as if the words buzzing in your ears make any sense. "Mhm."

"You okay?"

Wrecker's voice is gruff, but soft, curious. It snaps you out of your head and you look around for a second, blinking in confusion until you finally realize where you are and who you're with. Your gaze shifts to the floor.

"Oh. Yeah, I'm fine."

Except you're not, and neither is Echo. He's been acting strange for almost the entire day. He woke up like normal, stiff and grumpy and tenderly affectionate like he always is, but then something had changed between you stumbling out of bed for a shower and him getting his morning kaf. He wasn't looking you in the eyes, he was avoiding your touch, and you still can't figure out why.

Wrecker scratches at the back of his neck and exhales a shaky kind of laugh. "You sure? 'cause usually Hunter has ta peel the two of you off each other. And you look sad. And so does Echo."

It surprises you sometimes just how observant the rest of the Batch can be and especially Wreck. But he's right.

You glance at the extended gangplank and what little snippets of the outside world you can see - a landing platform, some droids, sunlight curving around the shape of a clone's shoulders and casting his shadow on the ground. It looks like Hunter. Great, because what you really want right now is for someone else to be privy to whatever stupid thing you've done to upset your lover.

"I think he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed."

But as you shoulder your way around the big guy and start down the ramp, your mind flashes back to the previous night. The way Echo had been shaking, your hand on his thigh, his scomp under your cheek when you fell asleep, the sweet nothings whispered in your ear. Except you don't remember any sweet nothings. You remember cyar'ika and I'm yours and... marry me. Electricity goes sparking up your spine, your eyes goes wide, you swear your heart stops beating and your lungs forget how to function.

He asked you to marry him. Echo asked you to marry him. All those years spent missing him when he was on Skako Minor, the overwhelming joy when Rex told you he was still alive, the moment you first reunited with him, crying and shaking and refusing to let go, all of it had led you to this moment. A promise, a vow to be shared with the only person who really mattered in the whole wide universe and you were half asleep when he finally popped the question. Something stings along your waterline as your eyes go misty because you don't even remember your answer. You would be a fool to say no, you would never say no in your right kriffing mind. But maybe you did? Maybe that's why Echo's been off the whole day?

You go stumbling out of the ship like a drunk, twisting and turning around in a wild attempt to find Echo's face among the chaos littering the landing platform. You see Tech performing a diagnostic on one of the wings, Hunter chatting with a reg, Crosshair lurking in the shadows of a stack of crates and chewing on a toothpick, but no Echo. Your stomach suddenly cramps up; you're going to be sick if you can't find him.

"Echo?" you yelp. It's a little embarrassing how panicked you sound, all sick with worry like a little youngling. You scurry over to Hunter. "Where's Echo?"

He frowns. "What's wrong?"

Maker, will people just stop asking you questions? "Where is he?"

You can only imagine what Hunter sees when he looks into your eyes, but whatever it is seems to be enough to grant your request. He tilts his head so his chin is pointing to the opposite side of the ship. "He's helping Tech with repairs-"

You almost lose your balance tripping over your own feet, then the gangplank, then a spare droid frantically trying to wheel out of your way. It's all a blur for a few seconds until you scramble underneath the Marauder's wing and there he is - one knee bent, his good arm braced against the hull of the ship and his scomp attached to a port. His brow is furrowed and damp with sweat. He looks tired. But he's there.

"Echo."

When he looks at you, it's like the rest of the galaxy melts away. His expression is strained, but it still lights up when he sees you, even if only slightly.

"Cyare," he sighs. "What-"

Your feet have carried you to his side before you can even register it. "I love you," you say as your palm lifts to cup his cheek. And as Echo tilts his head back to look at you properly, his eyes go big and soft and it grips you by the heart like he always has, ever since the first day you met him. "Of course I'll marry you. If you still want me?"

The scomp clicks when it unlocks from the port. He's fast on his feet, one arm still braced against the hull of the ship to keep him balanced as he stands, but then he's on you, pressing a kiss to your lips and your cheeks and your eyes, humming and rumbling into your skin while you sigh and giggle against him.

"Ner kar'ta."

"Uh-uh," you say as you shake your head. "You're my heart. Always."

Your hand presses flat against his chest, tucked into the spot just beside his heart where a blue handprint once marked his armor. That was a long time ago. Much has changed since then, but you know this one thing has never changed and it never will. You will always love him and he will always love you.

“I don’t want to be away from you,” you sob, tensing under Saeran’s gentle touch as he reaches out to rub your arm. 

“You won’t be,” he assures you, voice thickening with emotion even as he does his best to maintain a calm tone. “Not really.” 

He pulls you close. You’re turned away from him, which is strange— normally, he’s the little spoon. That only makes you feel guilty, of course— Saeran came here to rescue you because you were lured into a trap, and now, here he is, chained to the wall, laying on the floor, and inexplicably comforting you. “Please think again,” you urge, trying to twist around and look at Saeran. “There has to be another way. I’ll come back for you, I promise. I’m— I’m not leaving you.” But even as you say it, you know exactly what his response is going to be. As devastated as you are, your judgment isn’t clouded enough to convince you that Saeran is going to change his mind. He's already made his decision, after all.

“You won’t have time,” Saeran reminds you. He plants a soft kiss behind your ear. “You and Saeyoung have to finish this. I’m less important.” It hurts your heart to think that he actually believes that— in your opinion, Saeran’s safety is more of a priority than the security of a thousand worlds or whatever justice might be done against a million exploitative agencies and a billion corrupt Prime Ministers. 

“I’m not leaving you,” you repeat, perhaps a bit petulantly. It feels wrong to just go along with what he’s telling you, regardless of the stakes. 

“No,” Saeran agrees, “Of course not. Your heart will always be with me. And mine will stay with you, too, hm? Even if I’m not here, you’ll always be able to hold onto my love deep inside. That’s my promise to you, my love. Whenever you need me, I’ll always be there.” 

You grab his hand, giving it an affectionate squeeze. You still refuse to believe that you’re actually leaving Saeran— of course, you’ll go along with his plan until you know for sure that Saeyoung is safe. You know that Vanderwood will probably need help getting Saeyoung out of here in his condition, and Saeran is absolutely correct that Rika’s plans will all fall through if she isn’t able to produce both twins. But that doesn’t mean that you have any serious intention of leaving Saeran in this place. Though you lack the information and the mental clarity to make any kind of concrete plan, you can be certain that this will not be the last day that you spend with him. “I love you,” you breathe. 

“Mmm,” Saeran hums. “I love you, too. I’ll always love you, my MC. My angel, my miracle. Even if our bodies won’t be together in the same place, and even if I never get to hear your voice again, I’ll stay with you all the time. Even if my existence ends… I’ll be by your side until the end of the world.” 

You sniffle. He’s wrong. He has to be wrong— you will do everything in your power to see to it that his existence does not end, that you and he stay physically together for as long as the universe will allow it. You refuse to let some selfish couple, a team of phony hackers, and a disgraced politician tear you and Saeran apart. But either way, you need him to know that you love him just as much as he loves you. “But even when the world ends, we’ll still be together in our hearts,” you promise, “I’ll keep holding onto you as long as I can, and then after that, as long as I exist, as long as I have thoughts in my head, I’ll be loving you. No matter what happens, no matter what those bastards take from us, they won’t ever be able to stop us from loving each other, you know? When the world ends and there’s nothing left but empty space, when we go back to the stars that we came from, the space dust that is me will still try its best to drift beside the space dust that is you. I mean it, Saeran. I’m not giving up on you.” You’re beginning to ramble a bit now, but hopefully you got your message across. 

“I don’t think the world is ending any time soon,” Saeran replies, “You’ll get to live a long life full of fun experiences— you won't be giving up on me if you let yourself have fun. I’ll be happy knowing you got to live on ordinary life, free from all the trouble that I've caused you. But I’ll look forward to living in the stars together, my love. You can tell me all about everything that happened since the last time that we met.”

“Saeran, baby,” you address him over your shoulder, “I will never, ever make you wait that long.” You refuse to allow the universe to separate you from this man.

He laughs, squeezes your hand and pulls you impossibly close. “I want to savor this moment with you. I’ll cherish it in my mind for as long as I can.” You can hear the tears in his voice, the passion with which he says those words. You can feel his love in the way he holds you, in the tender feeling of his skin against your own.

“We’ll make new memories,” you assure him, “Better ones, where we’re safe and free— even as space dust.” But as you said— you will never, ever make him wait that long.

On Lunar Sway and Classpecting

In my quest to analyze all of the potential classpects that make up Homestuck's Mythological Roles system, I've come to figure that Lunar Sway has an effect on a player's specific classpect as well. A Prospit dreaming Heir of Breath will be a drastically different character in some measures when compared to a Derse dreaming Heir of Breath.

While 144 different individual types of people is a very broad spectrum, people are still individual and unique outside of that. Lunar Sway provides another angle of variation to consider when classpecting, and determines the approach a player may take towards their aspect and their class.

A varied combination of these three may produce up to 288 different individual "types" of players.

Aspect is the force that is most important in a person's life, whether lacking or abundant, whether good or bad, whether they want it or not.

Class is the intended role of the player, and how they interact with or are shaped by their aspect, either actively or passively.

Lunar Sway is the worldview of the player, their perspective on life and the world around them.

To shift gears, so to speak, I also came to the conclusion that aspects and classes both fit into Lunar Sway categories themselves.

Derse

Derse Dreamers have personalities marked by a distinct and restless skepticism. Whatever their waking circumstances, chances are they will live in a state of dissatisfaction (LIFE, PAGE). Rebellion is in their blood, manifesting whether they are fighting back against a fascist dictatorship, or the most recent trend in casual footwear (RAGE). Derse Dreamers are cerebral and self-aware (SYLPH); they have a far better grasp on the landscape of their own minds than on the world around them, which they can find alienating and confusing (MIND). But as so much of their identity is built on control (MAID), they will do their utmost to hide any insecurities, often with false humility or self-deprecating humor. They may be inflexible and pessimistic, but they are also great problem solvers (MAGE), facing conflicts head-on with shrewd, calculating minds. They see one true path among an infinite snarl of wrong ones (LIGHT, SEER). They tend to be introverted, but if you win their trust Derse Dreamers are extremely powerful allies (BLOOD). However, they find sincere vulnerability difficult and will often keep people at arm's length (KNIGHT). Letting go and living in the moment is hard for a Derse Dreamer; they constantly look toward the future and analyze the past (TIME).

Prospit

Marked by a flexible optimism, the personalities of Prospit Dreamers are reactive and intuitive. They naturally exist in the present, rather than look to the future or obsess over the past (SPACE). When making decisions Prospit Dreamers tend to rely on gut instinct and whatever emotions they are experiencing at the moment (BREATH). This makes them quick to act and reliable in a crisis, but it also can make them capricious (PRINCE). They have trouble thinking things through, and their feelings toward specific situations and decisions can change from day to day (WITCH). They solve problems with creativity rather than cold logic, often seeing multiple options with ease and clarity (VOID, ROGUE). Because they generally take things as they come, Prospit Dreamers are less rebellious than they are adaptable (THIEF)-instead of struggling against authority, they will find a way to coexist with it (HOPE, BARD). Possibly because they are so instinctual and flexible, they like having a defined set of rules-a safety net for their passionate lives (DOOM). Naturally trusting, they have trouble with deception or hiding their true selves, and will often worry about what others think of them (HEART). The self they project into the world is often not under their control (HEIR).

PROSPIT LEANING CLASSES: Witch, Thief, Prince | Heir, Rogue, Bard

Despite this binary sorting system, it isn't necessarily an automatic tell of Lunar Sway. Nepeta (Rogue of Heart), Eridan (Prince of Hope), and Dirk (Prince of Heart) were all Derse dreamers despite being of Prospit-leaning aspects and classes. Karkat (Knight of Blood), Terezi (Seer of Mind), and Jane (Maid of Life) were all Prospit dreamers despite being of Derse-leaning aspects and classes.

When classpecting, it is also important to consider that Lunar Sway and class may also obscure a player's true aspect. I suppose the more well-known term for this phenomenon is "ghosting", but what I intend to convey by this is that it goes deeper than that, and "ghosting" is not necessarily limited to the Prince/Bard destroyer classes. A player may "ghost" depending on the combination of Lunar Sway, class, and aspect.

To use a canon example, Gamzee was a Prospit dreaming Bard of Rage. His Lunar Sway (Prospit) and his class (Bard, Prospit-leaning) made him appear as a Hope player (Prospit-leaning), and obscured his true aspect, Rage (Derse-leaning).

To use myself as an example, I am a Derse dreaming Seer of Heart. Originally assigned Mind (Derse-leaning) as an aspect by the official TEZ True Sign quiz, I later came to the conclusion that my Lunar Sway (Derse) and my class (Seer, Derse-leaning) had obscured my true aspect, Heart (Prospit-leaning), on the surface level, which a quiz could not accurately or adequately decipher. My desire to know more about myself and about classpecting... culminated in this blog. But you might have figured that out already.

"Why do you stare at an arrow as though it offended you?" Mo'at asked as she settled next to me, groaning with her old bones.

"It did offend me." I sniffed, holding it up so that I could study the shaft for the eighteenth time that hour.

"How did it do this?" She asked, trying to contain a chuckle.

I frowned as I held it upright, showing it off like it was trash "It should have sank into the enemy, right between his eyes." I tapped the spot I had aimed at with my finger maybe a little harder than I meant to, but at least it was on myself "It flew true until the last second, where it veered enough to hit the log behind him, just off his ear." I mimed how close it had gotten before glaring at it some more.

She sighed in understanding, taking the arrow from me gently "We trust Eywa to guide our arrows, yes?" I nodded, mutely watching and listening, curious as to where she was going with the lesson "The Great Mother did not want you to kill that man. Does he still live?" I nodded again, trying not to be disrespectful with my scowling. "Eywa has a purpose for him. His fate is not for you to decide."

"It was him, Mo'at. The man that destroyed Hometree, the man that tried to destroy the Tree of Souls. Back from the dead like a demon. Why would Mother want to save him?" I was trying so hard to not be disrespectful, but I couldn't wrap my head around why Eywa would want the bastard to live.

She sighed again, sounding bone tired "I do not know the Will of Eywa, I can only guess. Whatever her reasons, they are hers. She saved both you and Jake once. Was she wrong to?" I tucked my head at her words, knowing that she had a point and hating it. She hummed softly at my non-answer, chuckling softly to herself "Trust in Eywa in all things, Ani. She will make herself known when she means to."

It was my turn to sigh as I nodded, hanging my head a bit in submission to her wisdom. "I can't pretend to understand it, or even agree with it, but if Eywa wills it, than I suppose I just have to live with it." I frowned, spinning the arrow in my palm by the nock.

"A wise decision." She hummed with a knowing smile before standing from her seat "I imagine, we will all be very surprised when Her motives are clear."

"I already am."

"Have a blessed night, Ahni Rillee. Tomorrow will be long." She chortled as she left me sitting there, still twirling the arrow, feeling conflicted and a little bit frustrated. The frustration grew moment by moment, until even my clothing felt stifling against my skin. In the heat of the moment I sprung to my feet and made my way across camp to Thor, needing to be mostly alone, needing space to breath, needing guidance. He understood immediately, diving off the ledge with gusto as we plummeted towards the forest below for an eternity of seconds before he snapped his wings open and leveled us out. He didn't ask or comment on my upheaval, only enjoyed the open air with me as the Tree of Souls came closer and closer. He only rumbled as he set down, looking around to make sure it was safe before letting me off.

I wasted little more time making tsaheylu with the vines, letting the songs of those past settle the turmoil in my mind "Great Mother, I pray for guidance, I pray for peace, I pray for clarity on the path before me. You saved an evil man from my arrow, and I know enough to not question you, but I cannot help the concern and fear it has created in my heart." I spoke quickly as I closed my eyes, afraid that my words would choke me before they all tasted the open air, before life was breathed into them. I licked my lips before trying to steady my beating heart, trying to let the songs sooth the uncertainty. My vision from all those years ago faded into my sight, the soft rolling waves on the beach meeting my ears, the salt of the sea soothing my nose. Those unspoken words like a promise to my soul 'I'm so thankful that we all survived.'.

A presence settled over me like my Mother's hugs, warm and comforting and safe no matter what. I could feel myself relax as I sighed in comfort "Do not despair my child, and trust. All will be well before the end." Mo'at's voice echoed through my skull, or at least it sounded like Mo'at, there was a sort of double tone to it, and the accent was much thicker, but it was no less comforting. Thor only wondered if I was soothed as we made the return trip, rumbling happily when I answered in the affirmative. Sleep still didn't come that night, but at least my soul was more at ease with what was to come.

His smooth, even tone betrayed the confusion in his voice, even if it was just barely peeking through. A single brow was arched, and dark, consuming eyes examining you, searching for an explanation, for understanding.

You shrug. "Because it's exciting, I guess. I don't know what you're going to do until I feel you doing it. Keeps me on my toes."

Something in Tom's eyes changes, skepticism replaced with clarity. "Is that so?"

You nod, shifting on the bed. "It's a sensory appeal too. If I can't see, I can hear and feel better. Deprivation of one sense makes me focus on my other senses."

By the time you'd finished, Tom's already dark eyes were lidded and lust-blown. "Put it on."

His words, though soft, were no less clear and no less decisive. You reached for the silk fabric, laid out on the bed beforehand, and pulled it over your eyes. Your vision went dark and your hands worked to secure it at the back of your head. When you were finished, you placed your hands on your lap, waiting for instruction.

You sat in silence for a moment, and just as you were about to call out for him, you felt fingertips brush against your shoulder.

"Lay down." He murmured. His voice was low and breath fanned the shell of your ear. You adjusted yourself into the position of choice, slowly, feeling out where the edge of the bed was when he gently tugged your ankles to pull you until you were laid the way he needed.

Again, you were waiting. Waiting, sitting, until again, his fingertips ghosted along your skin. This time it was your knees, previously bared to him. Tom's movements were slow, methodical, observant. He trailed up, to your thighs, over your hips, then back down. You sucked in a breath through your teeth as his thumbs stroked over the inner tops of your thighs.

"Tom, please..." You sighed, stifling the urge to roll your hips up in search of his hands.

"Patience." Was all he said, hands reaching to find the hem of your shirt, pulling slowly until it was over your head. Soft lips found your shoulder, collarbone, neck. It took you by surprise when Tom's mouth was on yours, kissing you deeply and slowly. You savored the taste of him, the delicate touch of his shaking hands on your waist saying that he was restraining himself for your sake.

You pulled a hand to his hair to hold him to you, tousling his strategically manicured locks into a look that part of you wished you could see. A very soft moan came from Tom's lips into your mouth- you could have came from the sound alone. You felt his weight shift, scooting down off the bed. His hands remained on your waist, trailing to your thighs.

A firm kiss right to your clothed core had your back arching and lungs sucking in a silent gasp. You felt him smirk against you before continuing to kiss and lick at you. Your hands traveled to find his, one hand in his hair and the other on his hand.

His hands moved up, fingers hooking into the sides of your underwear and dragging down until it fell from your ankles. Tom pushed your legs apart and sat for a moment- the anticipation nearly had you shaking. You jumped a little when his tongue licked a languid stripe up your slit, collecting your slick. His almost graceful demeanor was an electrifying contrast to the lewd noises coming from between your legs, which were beginning to close around him.

Tom gave a hum of satisfaction on your clit, sending hot waves of pleasure thrashing in your belly. His movements were fluid and earnest and hot. He pulled your legs over his shoulders, making it easier for you to hold him in, ankles locking over the space between his shoulder blades. Without being able to see him, you were all the more in need of feeling him more, a tiny part of you scared that he'd pull away and you wouldn't be able to find him again.

Waves of pleasure were washing over you ceaselessly thanks to his skilled tongue working you towards your high. Your mouth fell open in breathy moans and sighs. When it hit you, you fell silent for a moment when the initial high broke over you. Your mouth fell agape until you finally cried out in pleasure, hips rolling weakly to ride out your orgasm.

"You should taste yourself." Tom remarked, breathless. You reached for him, grasping for air before he held your wrist. You heard the ghost of a chuckle from him and it warmed your heart. You hooked a finger in the collar of his shirt, pulling him forward so that you might kiss him, fulfilling his suggestion. He groaned at your actions, hands cupping your face gently.

Tom's hands soon trailed to the back of your head, undoing the knotted fabric with ease. Though the light was dim in the room, it was bright to your eyes, and you had to blink a few times before focusing on his face. His gorgeous face, with striking eyes that bore right into you. His hair, as you'd predicted and better than you imagined, was ruffled. His lips were swollen and red and shining with your wetness and spit. You couldn't help but kiss him again, though chaste and sweet this time. Suddenly an idea popped into your brain, etching a smile on your face.

"Buck, stop!"

Buck pauses, one hand on the doorknob of the open door, one step away from leaving, from giving Eddie freedom, away from him. He shouldn't - he should keep walking, not look back, because Eddie doesn't need to be brought down by him anymore, burdened by him, but-

"What are you afraid of?"

"Eddie…"

"No, tell me. You need to tell me." He can hear the tremble in the words, somewhere hidden under the frustration and pain. "You need to tell me, Buck. Because if you're gonna walk out right now, leave me, leave Christopher, I need to know - please."

"My door will never be closed to Christopher, never!"

Buck snaps, an inferno of sudden rage burning through him at the suggestion, the implication, that he would ever abandon Chris. He's crowding into Eddie's space in seconds, pushing forward against Eddie's retreat, only stopping when the man punches out a pained breath as his back hits the wall.

It happens so fast - he doesn't even register the action before pain blossoms through the knuckles of his right hand which is, within seconds, buried in the wall - and it's barely a foot away from the side of Eddie's head.

His left hand is braced on the wall on the other side, the height difference between them noticeable in the way he has to look slightly down to stare into Eddie's wide eyes, his gaze flicking over him - the way Eddie's hands have hit the wall, palms first on either side of his waist as though he's anchoring himself to it, fighting himself--

"I would never abandon him. That's on you, Eddie." He growls out, the raging fire dying off as his voice lowers to a broken, desperate whisper. "That's on you."

He knows, he knows, Eddie's afraid - and why wouldn't he be? This Buck is dangerous, untethered - despite the conscious decision to put a hole in the wall instead of taking the title - and he should stop, but he just - he just can't, he knows too much, he feels too much, and it's terrifying but he was willing to be terrified, to be scared, and Eddie wasn't, but he let Buck believe that-

No. He can't dwell on what was, what they nearly had. He needs to get out, get away from Eddie, get away from - everything. That is the thought that finally makes him relax the muscles in his fist, ignoring the way his skin tears as he rips his hand out of the new hole in the wall. Strangely enough, the pain of it grounds him for a moment, settles his rage-

That moment of clarity just breaks something free within him, and his brain whispers, Fuck it, just say it.

"What am I afraid of?" Buck finally breathes, a humorless laugh bubbling up as he brings trembling fingers to Eddie's jawline, tracing over it as blood runs down his arm from the torn skin on his knuckles and hand. To his credit, Eddie doesn't flinch away, barely even reacts. "Everything, Eddie. Everything,"

He punctuates the last word with a sudden, harsh slam of both hands against the wall, his frustration breaking free again, though this time to a lesser degree. Eddie does flinch this time, and it's so out of character that for a moment he feels guilty, his fingers clenching against the wall, seeking control over himself - but then all the pent up feelings rush back, and he's speaking before he even knows it, looming over Eddie with barely a breath of space between them as the words finally, finally, break free.

"I'm scared of losing you. I'm scared of not losing you. And I'm scared - I'm scared, Eddie - " He pauses, rationality trying to break through, trying to hold the words back. Rationality loses. "I'm terrified that I'm going to walk out of here - walk out of your life forever - and never, never, feel for the rest of my life, the way I feel when I'm with you."

"Buck…" Buck listens to the way Eddie's voice hitches, watches as the emotion flits through his eyes, the walls drop away to show his fear, his terror at the idea. "Buck, I- I can't - "

"Then there's your answer." Buck whispers, and he knows that the expression on Eddie's face is him watching the light in Buck's eyes die, shuttered behind the same brick wall Eddie taught him to build.

He stays for a moment more, silence filling the room as he takes one more moment to just look - to take all of Eddie in, his Eddie, just for a moment.

Then he turns on his heel and walks out of the door, leaving everything he knows, everything he loves, his lifeline - behind.
