When the Chips Are Down
part 1
masterlist
Hello, my darlings. I feel so bad. I haven’t been updating, so I decided to do something that will likely make you all come for my head since this really won’t be updated for a good while. But for now, it’s all I’ve got for ya, but I do have a chapter of SW over half way done, but for now enjoy the first chapter of ADG’s sequel even if the rest won’t be coming for a while.--- chaotic puff

The ride to the airfield was nothing if not awkward. Namjoon sat on his side of the car and Y/N on the other. Namjoon was trying to reign in his temper, and Y/N simply didn’t want to talk. There were so many thoughts bouncing around her head, so many things they needed to talk about. She didn’t want to though. She wanted to pretend that he’d never come at all. She wanted to go back to her little cottage with Mark. She wanted him to hold her and talk to the baby like he always did, but that wasn’t an option anymore, not with Namjoon back in the picture.
“Where are we going?” She asked after a while. The tense silence was killing her.
“The airport at Pisa. I have a private jet waiting there to take us back to Seoul.”
“I can’t fly. I’m in my third trimester.” She murmured wincing as the baby sent a particularly hard kick to her stomach immediately catching Namjoon’s notice.
“Are you alright, jagi?” He asked moving to her side in a flash, hovering over her eyes darting over her worriedly looking for signs of distress.
“I’m fine.” She groaned pressing a hand to her belly. “The baby’s kicking.”
His face immediately lit up with a smile as he pressed his hand to her belly waiting intently for another kick. None came though. He looked back up at her disappointed, and she sighed moving his hand to press against different spot on her belly one where he was more likely to feel something.
“Give him a second. Little pest loves pummeling my insides.” She grumbled sinking back into the seat.
Just then the baby sent another kick landing it just under where Namjoon’s hand was pressed. He jumped at the odd sensation turning his awed gaze on her before looking back down at her belly in wonder. “Does it hurt?” He asked voice barely above a whisper.
“When he kicks like that? Yes.”
“It’s a boy?” He asked excitedly already imagining a little boy with her eyes and his dimples, a little heir for his empire.
“I don’t know actually.” She mused looking down at her bump fondly. “I never found out.”
“Jin can tell us later.” He grinned turning his attention back to her belly rubbing soft circles across its surface. “All that matters is that you and the baby are healthy.”
“I still can’t fly.” She reminded him. “It’s not good for the baby.” There was a hope, however small, that if she could stall him, then she could slip away.
He smiled at her fondly. “I have Jin waiting at the jet. He’ll monitor you throughout the flight.”
“Oh,” She breathed disappointed by the development, but of course he had thought of everything. He was always a step ahead no matter how hard she tried.
The ride was not long. It less than a two hour drive to Pisa, and as promised Jin was waiting on the plane for them. He smiled at her and settled her into one of the cushy seats.
“Can you lift up your dress for me, sweet girl? I can pull out the pajamas too if you’d prefer. They may be more comfortable for the long flight.” He asked.
“The pajamas please.” She nodded tiredly, and Jin happily went to fetch them for her, ushering her up and into a small bedroom at the back of the plane where she was able to change in peace.
Jin helped her back to her seat when she emerged in a pair of silky pajamas and slippers. He had been right. It was going to be much more comfortable for the flight, and if she could avoid Namjoon by sleeping for most of the flight, she would.
“I’m going to attach a fetal monitor to your belly so we can keep an eye on the belly. I have a labor and delivery nurse on the flight as well to help keep an eye on mom and baby.” He grinned gently pressing the little stickers onto her belly as he addressed both her and Namjoon who was hovering nearby. “It’s good to see you, Y/N. How far along are you now?”
“Thirty-four weeks.”
“Not long till the little one arrives then.” He nodded giving her one last smile and moving away to sit elsewhere as Namjoon settled in next to her for the long flight, taking one of her hands in his frowning at the simple gold wedding band that rested there.
Namjoon slipped it off with a frown pocketing the ring before bringing out the one she had left behind all those months ago with all its glitz and glory.
“I’d prefer if you wore your ring, jagi, and not some trinket from that pest.” He sighed slipping it on her finger. “You’ve cut your hair.” He noted equally displeased by the drastic change in length as he was with the ring he had just confiscated.
“It’s easier to hide when you don’t look the same as when you ran.” She huffed brushing a stray lock behind her ear, though it slipped out again shortly after. It was a major disadvantage to the shaggy pixie cut she now sported. She couldn’t tie her hair up, and she couldn’t get it to stay behind her ear either. She didn’t have any headbands on the flight to keep it out of her face either. Those were all back at the cottage.
“I don’t like it.” He grumbled. “I liked your hair before. Oh well. It’ll grow.”
“You have no say over how I wear my hair.” She snapped snatching her hand back.
His grin was sharp and wolf like as he stared her down. “I think you’ll find I have a say over a great many things, jagi. You’ve caused so much trouble. I can’t have you putting yourself or the baby in danger any longer. You’ll behave or you’ll find yourself in much more trouble than you’re already in.” He warned before turning his attention back towards her belly. “Is the baby still kicking?”
“He’s always kicking.”
She flinched as Namjoon laid a hand back over her belly again leaning down to whisper to her bump. “You have to be nice to your eomma. She needs her strength to make sure you’re healthy.”
Namjoon had missed her more than he liked to admit, but seeing her heavy with his child filled him with pride. He only wished that he could have been there for the entirety of the pregnancy. He wanted to be there for it all, the morning sickness, the cravings, the doctor’s appointments. He wanted to be there to watch her belly grow, but that had all been taken away from him. He would be there for the next one though. He was going to fill their home with children.
Yoongi already had a son. Jin was working on getting Hayan healthy enough to support a pregnancy. The younger boys were also beginning to express interest in starting families of their own. Taehyung was even beginning to talk about ending his seemingly never ending game of cat and mouse with his ‘little bird’, and he wouldn’t be surprised if Hoseok was already planning a family with Iyla.
Iyla. That was another variable he would have to deal with. Y/N didn’t yet know that her dear younger sister was in his hands, or more accurately, Hoseok’s hands. That was a surprise he was going to leave for when they arrived home, and Y/N was well rested from the journey. She had been right when she’d warned him that flying was dangerous for her at this point in the pregnancy. It was why he had Jin and two labor and delivery nurses on the flight. He was taking every precaution to make sure that both she and the baby would be safe. He’d never forgive himself if something happened to either of them.
Y/N was extremely uncomfortable with Namjoon’s show of affection and his interest in her belly, but she allowed it, too tired to really fight back for the moment as well as knowing better than to push him too far at the moment.
“He or she will be out soon enough.” She sighed moving his hand off her belly and curling up in her seat. “I can deal with a few kicks to the kidneys until then.”
Namjoon sighed before moving up the seat divider and pulling her into his arms resting both of his hands on top of her belly. “Don’t push me away. I’ve missed so much of our child’s life. Let me have this.”
“We can’t sit like this for takeoff.” She reminded him beginning to pry his arms away again.
“Just let me hold you till then.” He pouted placing a soft kiss on the juncture between her neck and shoulder. “I’ve missed you, jagi.” He murmured placing another kiss further up her neck.
“Please don’t.” She sighed squirming in his arms.
“I haven’t held you in months, jagi.” He released a sigh of his own letting her go so she could settle back in her own seat as the flight attendants readied them for takeoff.
As the plane took off climbing higher into the sky, her heart sunk further and further. She didn’t want to leave Italy behind. She didn’t want to leave Mark behind, but she didn’t have a choice. Even if it wasn’t for the baby, she wouldn’t have had much of a choice. Namjoon was a sneaky bastard, and he always seemed to be a ten steps ahead of her. She had been lucky to have so much time away from him, but all good things come to an end eventually.
She knew there wasn’t much hope for her, not anymore, but maybe there was a chance for Mark. Namjoon was a sadistic bastard, and Mark had had the audacity to take her away from him. It wasn’t something that Namjoon was going to treat lightly. Death would not come swiftly for Mark, but perhaps that would be his saving grace. The longer Namjoon waited to get rid of Mark, the better chance there was of Mark finding a way to escape. The man was a veritable magician. She was constantly amazed at his ability to get in and out of sticky situations. If there was anyone that could slip away from Namjoon, it was Mark.
“What’s going to happen?” She asked softly once the seat belt warning had been lifted and Namjoon had reverted to holding her in his arms absent mindedly rubbing senseless patterns into her belly.
“What do you mean, jagi?” He hummed smiling as he felt the baby kick lightly against one of his hands.
“What’s going to happen when we get back to Korea?”
His arms tightened around her slightly. “We’re going to go home, jagi. You’re going to need lots of rest with your due date so soon.”
“You know that’s not what I meant.” She grumbled pushing back slightly as she struggled to get comfortable. She was finding it harder and harder to be comfortable as her due date approached, and Namjoon’s proximity wasn’t helping.
Her discomfort was clear, and it wasn’t something Namjoon could allow. He needed her calm and rested for the flight, for the next few weeks really. “Jin!” He called bringing the doctor running. “Can we move Y/N to the bedroom? I think she’d be more comfortable lying down.”
Jin nodded with a smile helping Namjoon to move the heavily pregnant woman and the monitors to the back of the plane, getting them all settled before leaving the couple to their privacy.
Namjoon was careful to get her settled with pillows piled up at the headboard for them to lie against. He had her nestled against him despite her grumbling, but he knew despite her grumpy attitude, the new position was far more comfortable for her, and it gave her more room to adjust herself than the chairs in the front did.
“You never answered my question.” She reminded him with a sigh.
“You mean your punishment for leaving me? For taking our child and running off with that pest?” She nodded stiffly, waiting for his answer. “For the sake of the baby, I’m willing to overlook your little moment of insanity, but it all depends on how well you, jagi. I can be very forgiving, or I can make life very hard. I’d prefer to be forgiving though. We should be focusing on our baby after all.”
“What do you want from me?”
“I want you to keep your promise.” He chuckled. “I want you to be a good wife and mother. No more running. No more hiding.”
“And all is forgiven? Just like that?”
She couldn’t believe that. Namjoon was not a forgiving man. He was a shark. He would never forget, and he’d take into account every variable to keep her firmly in her grasp this time. She had one shot, one real shot, and she had used it already. Namjoon wasn’t likely to let her slip away again, especially not with a child in the mix.
“Not just like that, but it’s a start.”  He leaned in nudging his nose against the spot just below her ear. “And after all, doesn’t our baby deserve the best start we can give them?”
“And you’re the best thing for this child?” She scoffed squirming in his arms again.
“I know I am. And what other choice do you have?” He chuckled nipping lightly at her ear. “You’re never leaving me again.”

CHAPTER THREE- The Truth
It had been about 6 months since Y/N arrived at at the facility. She liked it here. She was able to get to know who her brother was now, hearing about his stories. He was careful to try and leave Bucky out of it as much as possible, but sometimes he would come up. The more Steve talked about Bucky, the less Y/N would flinch at his name. It’s like Steve was replacing that bad memory of him taking her with new ones about how Bucky had redeemed himself, sacrificing everything to help protect the universe from Thanos.
“I always imagined you like this, Steve.” Y/N had said to him one day, gesturing at him as she listened to his stories, “Even though you were five foot, four inches and weighed nothing, I always knew this was the real you.” She smiled, at him, to which Steve laughed and replied, “I’m glad someone saw passed my height.”
Y/N trained with Clint and Wanda. Although Y/N and Clint had a bit of a rough start with the arrow thing as well as calling her a vampire, they became friends quickly. Joking at one another often, especially during training. He had nicknamed her ‘Little Vampire’. Her abilities began to hone in, and she hadn’t had an outburst of violence since the night she arrived. Besides her brother, Wanda was the person Y/N was closest with. They even shared a bedroom now, and others in the neighboring bedrooms often heard laughing throughout the night coming from the bedroom. They did almost everything together. Train, eat, watch movies, occasionally go shopping. Wanda even taught Y/N how to drive, testing out the fast cars on the long stretch of road leading to the facility.
There was still one problem though. Bucky. Y/N couldn’t be in the same room as Bucky, which everybody noticed. For the first few months, when Bucky entered a room that Y/N was in or vice versa, the room would get quiet. It was like there was a stare down between the two. Y/N would tense up, her red eyes locking on Bucky. Out of respect and guilt, Bucky always left the room, even if he was there first. He caused her enough pain for a lifetime, he didn’t want to be a constant reminder of the worst time of her life. He owed her that much. At least he could hear her laugh with Wanda. Sometimes he would stay awake at night, either laying in his bed or standing outside her door and listening to her laugh. He missed Y/N’s laugh so much. He used to hear it almost everyday growing up, watching her smile. Her joy was always infections to others, especially him. He often wondered when the last time she laughed was. He was sure she didn’t laugh until she came here and met Wanda. The first time he heard her laugh while Y/N has been here, he smiled, standing around a corner as he listened to Wanda and Y/N watch the cheesy Captain America movie. Bucky wished more than anything he could join in the laughter. He wanted to feel the warmth that Y/N always brought him, but knew he wasn’t what she needed or wanted right now.
After about 4 months, they were able to be in the same room. Bucky had been sitting at the kitchen bar, talking to Steve about how he could fix things and help Y/N. When speak of the devil, she walked in alone. Usually her and Wanda were always together, but this time she was alone. She paused when she entered, staring at Bucky who was looking back to her. She then moved to the fridge, grabbing out some grape juice. Her favorite. Wanda made sure it was on the list every week just for her, and if she forgot to put it on the list, Bucky would scribble it down. She grabbed a glass out of a cupboard. She was facing Bucky, but not looking at him. She was focused on her task of getting juice. As she poured, her eyes flicker to meet his gaze. She quickly looked back down until her glass was full. She put the grape juice back in its spot in the fridge, picking up her glass. Her eyes flickered between Steve and Bucky. She gave a soft smile but it faded quickly as she left back the way she came, returning to her room.
Once Steve was sure she was out of earshot, he turned to Bucky, raising his eyebrows, “Progress.” He said with a smile. It was nothing compared to how much Bucky was grinning. This was the first time he had been able to get her to actually look at him, not stare him down or glare like he was her enemy. She even smiled a little bit, probably at Steve, but Bucky was taking it as a win. For the first time in the last four months, he felt hope in being able to be Y/N’s friend again. But he wouldn’t push it, he would wait for her.
Two months later, present time, it was time to answer the hard questions. Steve sat down on his sister’s bed beside her. Wanda had some idea of what happened, as Y/N talked about the trauma to her most. That and the fact Wanda could see inside her head, but only ever did it with Y/N’s permission.
“Y/N, tell us everything you remember.” Steve said, looking at his sister. He needed to know what was done to her, where, and if there were any remaining Hydra agents. He needed to know if there were anymore enhanced humans Hydra could have made.
Y/N looked at her brother, then to Wanda, then to the floor letting out a sigh. She had been dreading. She put her face in her hands, then slowly ran them up through her blonde hair. She hated talking about it, but knew Steve had given her enough time to process her new home.
“Bucky sent me a letter, saying he was coming home from deployment. He set up a date and where to meet. I was so excited to keep our promise.” Y/N swallowed hard, “When we met, he greeted me. He smiled, but there was no emotion in his eyes. I figured it was from the war, you know, needing to adjust. I was just happy he was safe. We talked for a moment, before walking down the street. It was dark, the street lamps were out which I thought was odd. Then suddenly, he grabbed me, pulling me into the trunk of a car. I was in that trunk for what felt like days,” She paused, pushing past the pain it was causing her, “Then, we were outside this bunker. It was snowing, cold. I didn’t know where we were. He took my hood off, holding my arm as he lead me through the doors. I was watched by all these men, wearing a red octopus with a skull on their uniforms. He handed me to them, practically throwing me into their grasp. I looked back at him, pleading for help. He ignored me and followed as the men took me to this medical chamber and strapped me down on a cold table. I could see the medical instruments on a tray. They had these syringes filled with red liquid. I screamed for Bucky to help me, for anybody to help me. Nobody did.. They gagged me and began. I couldn’t tell you what they did, I closed my eyes until I passed out from pain, after seeing Bucky leave the room. I do remember though before I passed out, up in the gallery that overlooked the room, red eyes staring at me.” Y/N said softly, looking at Steve.
“The rest of it is a little blurry. I think I’ve blocked it out of my mind after I was made into this, knowing I wouldn’t want to remember. Then, after a few years, something happened. I remember I was called back to that bunker. There were two others with red eyes. They put us in these steel coffin type things.” Y/N paused, before chuckling a little bit which shocked Steve, “Don’t tell Clint that, it’ll just make the vampire thing a little too real for him.” She joked for a moment, but not hearing any laughter she sighed and continued, “They put us to sleep. When I woke up, seven months ago, it took days of punching that steel coffin until I was able to get it open.” She traced the silver scars on her knuckles, remembering blood, although there wasn’t much pain, “But that wasn’t the end of the it. Wherever they put me, I was buried. I had to claw my way through dirt, grass, and two feet of snow until I saw grey skies. It was snowing. I fled to the nearest city, hiding in an abandoned building. I could feel something in my brain, trying to tell me to go back and sleep. I itched at the spot until I could feel my skull and stole a drill from a nearby family. I drilled out the spot of my skull, then pried the chip out with my fingers. I left it in that building.” Y/N was now staring at the wall as she spoke, her face emotionless. She knew Wanda was watching her memories vividly, wincing as she watched the process of taking the chip out, “It didn’t take long after that for me to see your face everywhere, and the face of the Avengers. I had to find you and I did. You know the rest from there.”
It was silent in the room for a minute. Steve was holding back some tears hearing about his sister’s torture with Hydra, not wanting her to see. Wanda had the saddest look on her face, feeling like she was there herself through Y/N’s memories. Steve broke the silence, “Thank you for telling me,” He said, putting a hand on his sister’s back. He didn’t want to make her relive this, but he got the information him and the team needed. There were more of these red-eyes buried somewhere, just waiting to escape.
What they didn’t know, is Bucky was outside the door, listening to every word Y/N said. He felt nauseous hearing her stories. The sweet woman he knew.. She had been taken and forced into this traumatic life. Taken by his own hand. A tear ran down his cheek which he quickly wiped away. When she was done talking, he stood up and went back to his own room before they could catch him eavesdropping. He felt full of rage at Hydra but more importantly at himself. No wonder she tried to kill him. Half of him wishes she did, he deserved it and maybe it would’ve brought her more peace. But the other half of him was glad she did save him, wanting to prove himself to her that he wasn’t that person and that he was the same Bucky Y/N remembered from watching their sunrise.
After Steve had shared the information for the team, they decided to mobilize and search out this base. It would be at most a week they were gone. Everybody was going, besides Y/N, Bucky, and Clint who had promised his family not to go into any more dangerous missions unless absolutely necessary. Y/N pleaded with Steve not to go, or at least leave Wanda behind with her. But Steve had told his sister they needed to go, make sure everything was safe, and Wanda needed to go as well as she had seen the bunker and its layout in her head. Reluctantly, Y/N agreed.
Two days into the longest week of her life since she had been back, Y/N sat on her bed, missing her friends and her brother. She had skipped training with Clint, mostly staying in her room and listening to music Wanda had showed her. It made her happy listening to music. Sometimes Wanda and Y/N would blast the music in their room, dancing together and laughing. They were some of her happiest moments since she’s been at the facility.
On the third night, Y/N went out into the kitchen to have herself some leftover soup. She waited as it heated in the microwave, freezing when she heard another person enter the room. She slowly turned, only to lock eyes with blue eyes she had hated for so long. Bucky stopped and looked at her, before speaking softly to break the silence, “Sorry.. I’ll come back later.” He said, turning to leave, breaking their eye contact. Then a miracle happened.
“It’s fine, I’m almost done..” Y/N said softly, turning back to watch the timer on the microwave. Bucky stood there staring at her. This is the first thing she had said to him since she healed the bite on his neck. His heart leaped in his chest, hearing her acknowledge him. It was just adding to the hope that one day they could be back to friends again. Her voice was like soft music to his ears, so sweet. He didn’t approach her, just took a seat. He didn’t want to get too close to her and make her uncomfortable and take back this progress of her speaking to him. He thought of her like a scared animal. If he moved the progress too fast then she would run. He watched as she grabbed the bowl from the microwave, a spoon, and a napkin. Then Y/N retreated back to her room, not saying another word. She shut the door behind her.
Bucky smiled to himself, “Progress.” He said softly, making himself a sandwich and heading back to his room. He felt accomplished. She had actually spoken to him, directly to him. Alone. She didn’t run, or attack him. Bucky viewed this as a big step towards reaching his goal of having Y/N trust him again.
In the early morning hours, Y/N had a nightmare. A bad one. She was seeing the faces of those she hurt, those she killed. Then it changed to her punching herself out of that metal coffin, screaming to be free, digging through the rough earth trying to find air. She tossed and turned, sweating, before letting out a scream. The scream woke Clint and Bucky up, who now stood outside her door in the hallway looking at each other as they heard her whimpering and screaming from the other side.
“Okay, you go in.” Clint said, looking at Bucky.
Bucky looked at Clint in disbelief, “Are you kidding? She hates me. Well, I think we are one level down from hate because she talked to me, but still. At least she likes you, you go in.” He countered
Clint shook his head, “Nope. Nu-uh. After hearing about the coffin thing, I’m still not convinced she isn’t a vampire.” He whispered softly, “Vampire beats human every time. You got the superhuman stuff, if she bites you at least we know what happens. If she bites me, I may die quicker than she’s willing to give me her blood.” He said, “Plus you're stronger and she scares me a little.”
Bucky opened his mouth to argue, but was silenced by another muffled scream. He glared at Clint before opening the door. If this took back the new progress he had just made with Y/N, he wouldn’t know what to do. He peeked in her room, seeing Y/N laying on the bed, clutching her pillow so hard that it starting spitting feathers out of the seams. It pained him to see her like this. He could see tears down her visible cheek, the pain on her face.
“Y/N?” He asked softly, not wanting to touch her yet, just wanting to wake her gently. It didn’t work though, she didn’t wake. Bucky slowly moved to the side of her bed, sitting at the edge next to her. He slowly reached his hand out to touch her and paused, wondering if he should. But then he heard Y/N whimper again, letting out a half sob half scream. His instincts took over and he grabbed her quickly, pulling her into his chest and holding her tight. She gripped onto his shirt, her nails ripping through and digging into his chest. Bucky winced, but it was worth it to hold her, trying to calm her, “I got you, Y/N. You’re safe… It’s all over, I got you.” He whispered towards her ear, noting the scar behind her left ear. He knew exactly what it was from. The sobbing stopped, as did the screaming. He looked down at her face to see the red eyes staring at him. He paused, wondering what was going to happen. Would she attack him? Push him away? He wouldn’t blame her for either of those options. He just wanted to be there for Y/N, let her know she was safe.
Y/N stayed silent for quite a while, just staring at Bucky’s eyes. The way he looked at her was familiar. His eyes weren’t emotionless. She saw his sadness, worry, guilt.
“Bucky..” She whispered finally, breaking the silence.
Bucky’s heart melted, listening to her say his name without rage in her voice. She said his name like she did before he left for deployment, but with a little more sadness in her voice. Then she curled into him more, which made his heart melt again. He willingly pulled her closer, “I got you, Doll,” He said as he ran his hand through her hair, “You’re safe. You never have to do those things again.” He knew exactly what she was dreaming about when it came to the faces. He had the same nightmares for a long time, unable to sleep for months because of it. He held her until she was asleep, gently placing her back into bed and pulling the covers over her body. He sat on Wanda’s bed, watching her all night. Every couple hours, Y/N would wake up and look over at him as if to make sure Bucky was still there, before going back to sleep, pressing her face into her pillow.
In the morning, Clint called Bucky into the briefing room to get an update from the rest of the team. They had to break down the steel doors to the bunker to get in, but didn’t find any evidence of any survivors or the remaining red-eyes. They were going to search the area a little more before heading back home. They also wanted to try and find the chip that Y/N had clawed out of her brain seven months ago to try and see if they could get any information off that.
As the sun hit her face, Y/N’s eyes opened slowly, looking around the room. She was alone. She started to wonder if it was all just a dream that Bucky was there, holding her, keeping an eye on her. It had felt too real to be a dream. She sat up slowly, noticing the feathers on her sheets. Definitely not a dream, she concluded. She dragged herself out of bed and made her way to the bathroom to shower.
Y/N stood still as the warm water hit her back. Her mind racing a million miles per hour as she thought about last night with Bucky. He came in to help her, and she accepted it. She shook her head, bringing her hands to her face. She couldn’t believe she did that. She let him in, giving him a chance. Her traumatic time with Hydra had made her hate him. But Y/N knew that somewhere, inside herself, she knew the truth that he was still the Bucky she remembered. She didn’t want to trust him, to let him in. It was easier if she didn’t because then he couldn’t betray her trust again. She sunk to the floor of the shower, pushing her back against the tile wall, and cried.
After about a half hour of crying in the shower, she finished washing her hair and herself and finally stepped out, wrapping the towel around herself. She stared at herself in the mirror as she ran the brush through her hair. Looking around the bathroom, she cursed under her breath as she realized she forgot a change of clothes. She would have to scurry back to her room with the towel wrapped around her.
She opened the door and started to walk back to her room, but stopped as she saw Bucky at the end of the hallway, looking at her with those damn blue eyes. Y/N looked down, turning and disappearing into her bedroom, shutting the door behind her.
Bucky stood there, he had looked her over as she stood frozen for a moment. Noting all the small silver scars across her pale body that he could see. She had many on her shoulders and legs. Some of them looked like scars of bites, like someone had bit her over and over again. They were along her shoulders also ran up her legs until they disappeared under the towel secured around her body. It made him sad to see her like that. He remembered she only had a few scars when they were younger, from dumb instances like falling off a bike or falling when she ran to keep up with him. But now, she was covered in scars. He sighed as she left without a sound to him, wondering if the progress they had made disappeared.
The next few days, Y/N stayed in her room, only coming out to train with Clint and get food. The rest of the time she sat on her bed, reading or listening to music. The team were supposed to be back tomorrow and Y/N couldn’t wait to see Wanda and her brother. It felt like she hadn’t seen them in months. She had gotten so used to them being around all the time that she didn’t know she would miss them this much when they were gone on a mission. There weren’t many phone calls, just quick check-ins with Clint.
She finally pulled herself out of bed, throwing on some black leggings and a dark blue shirt. She brushed her hair and teeth in the bathroom, before making her way to the kitchen. She grabbed herself a bowl of cereal and moved to the living room, turning on the tv to watch some dumb reality show that filled the silence around her. She noticed Bucky and Clint walk into the kitchen, they must’ve been training. They were both discussing who won their sparring as they grabbed water bottles out of the fridge.
“I see you...”
The sound made Y/N jump. It sounded like it was right in her ear. She looked around, looked behind her to see Bucky and Clint still talking. She put her bowl on the coffee table, turning off the tv. She stood, looking around slowly, her forehead wrinkles in frustration and focus as she tried to figure out where the voice came from. She wondered around, looking down hallways.
“Y/N...”
The voice came again, singing her name in a soft whisper. Y/N jumped and turned, but nobody was there. She didn’t even notice Bucky and Clint were now watching her, confused by her movements.
The voice softly started humming, the sound felt like someone was right in her ears.
“Little Vampy, you okay?” Clint called from the kitchen, his brow furrowed as he watched what was unfolding. Both Clint and Bucky had started moving towards her.
“Little Vampy, huh?” The voice came again, whispering right in her ear. It was deep, a male’s voice. It almost sounded like it was teasing her, “Idiot.” It chuckled and resumed humming.
Y/N turned quickly again at the whisper only to find nobody standing there, her eyes confused but also panicked. She listened to the humming, slowly walking passed Bucky and Clint. She pushed passed Bucky, her arm brushing against his but she didn’t seem to notice. She stopped at a window, staring out it as the humming continued.
“Y/N.” Bucky said, breaking the silence, curious and concerned of what was going on with her. It was like she was almost in a trance.
Y/N silently looked out the window for a moment, the voice that was humming slowly disappearing. She turned and looked at Bucky, her red eyes panicked, “Somethings here..” She said softly, almost a whisper.
Bucky and Clint immediately went on the defense, pulling up motion trackers of the facility but finding nothing except themselves. They searched the whole facility, every nook and cranny, but found nothing. Y/N hid in her room, the curtains shut. The humming had gone away, and she was left with her own thoughts. She sat silently in the room, curled up in one of the corners behind a chair. It was like she was hiding from whatever she was hearing even though it was now gone.
Bucky and Clint entered her room, confused seeing nothing at first which made them panic a little. Bucky scanned the room, tense. Where had she gone? Was she taken? He shouldn’t have left her alone.. But then he saw the red eyes peer out from behind the chair at him and gave a sigh of relief.
“We couldn’t find anything, Y/N.” Clint said, folding his arms, “Why would you think something is here?” He questioned, confused on why him and Bucky just went on an empty scavenger hunt.
Y/N’s eyes flickered from Bucky to Clint as he spoke, not leaving the safety of the corner on the floor, “I heard him. He’s here.. somewhere.”
“Heard him? Heard who?” Bucky asks, moving to sit on the edge of Y/N’s bed, trying to make her more comfortable by letting her know he was here for her.
“I don’t know who.” She said, staring Bucky in the eyes, “It was familiar, his voice. He said my name, was listening to your conversation in the kitchen. He knew where we were and what we were doing. He was right in my ears…” Y/N moved her hands back to grip the sides of her head, “Whispering…” She mutters, then looked up at Clint, “He called you an idiot.”
“Well, I already don’t like him.” He said, folding his arms, “We will keep an eye on the motion sensors, do checks of the facility throughout the day just to be sure. I’ll send an update to the rest of the team. They should be back soon with the chip.” Clint informed, leaving the room promptly.
Bucky stayed in the room, sitting there silently. He wanted to ask Y/N if there was anything she needed, but he was cautious. He didn’t want to get too close. He didn’t want to push Y/N. They sat there in silence for what felt like hours, but was really only one. Y/N picked herself up off the floor, looking at Bucky, then looking around the room as if to make sure it was safe. She could feel Bucky’s eyes on her, watching her closely to try and get a read on how she was doing.
“I’m fine, Bucky..” Y/N finally said, her eyes eyes locking with his, before exiting her own bedroom. She went back to grab her bowl of now soggy cereal from the coffee table. She took it to the sink, pouring it down the drain and turning the disposal on for a moment to shred the cereal. She washed her bowl and spoon, then set them on a towel to dry. Y/N placed her hands on the edge of the counter, staring at the granite. What was she hearing inside her head? Who was it and why did it sound so familiar? She had clawed that chip out of her brain over half a year ago, she shouldn’t be hearing the voices. She wondered if she was slowly going insane, if it was the voices of those she killed catching up to her.
“Y/N,” It was Bucky’s voice behind her, but she didn’t move from where she stood, still staring at the granite, “I know you would prefer to talk to Wanda or Steve…. but you can talk to me while they’re not here…” He said softly, wanting to understand what was going on in her head. He wanted to help her.
“I feel like I’m going insane…” Y/N said, eyes still studying the granite as she kept her back to him, “Or being haunted. I feel like my mind isn’t safe.”
Bucky nodded slowly, “It’s the guilt, Y/N. You were forced to do terrible things to people. It wasn’t you. You’d never do that.” He said, moving closer to her.
Y/N shook her head, scoffing at his words, “I would do that. I bit you. I threw Steve. I am capable of violence, I was trained for it.” Her hands gripped the edge of the counter harder, it was starting to crack under her strength. Pieces of fractured granite pierced into her palms, causing droplets of her blood to run down the cupboards to the floor.
Bucky quickly moved when he heard the splintering granite and seeing the blood, pulling Y/N away from the counter, forcing her to look him in the face as his arms held hers, “Y/N. You were trained, yes. You did awful things, yes. But it wasn’t you. You are Y/N Rogers. The girl who loves dancing, adores sunflowers, and hates coffee.” He reminded, “You are letting yourself feel the guilt for something you had no control over. You wouldn’t have done those things if you had a choice. You need to take all that sadness, frustration, and guilt and let it go.” He urged. He knew what she was going through. He dealt with the emotions for a long time, his ghosts haunting him ruthlessly. But he had come to accept the things he couldn’t change, and work to make up for his mistakes everyday.
Y/N stared at him, allowing him to hold her arms, listening to his words. He was the only one who knew what it was like to do the things she had done without having control of yourself. She finally spoke, sadness in her eyes, “I may still love the same things, but I don’t feel like the same person.” She told him, moving away from his grasp and retreating back to her bedroom.
Bucky cleaned up the blood and the splinters of granite on the floor for her after she was gone. He was hoping she would think about his words, accepting them eventually. She couldn’t keep torturing herself and needed to come to terms with what happened to her. She needed to accept and move on into a better life like he had. He had faith she could do it.

how's your heart after breaking mine?
ts x jolex week 21
day one: fearless - mr. perfectly fine (taylor's verion) (from the vault)
wc: 2.5k
pairing: Jo Wilson/Alex Karev. Alex Karev/Izzie Steven (mentioned)
summary: years after they last saw each other, jo and alex reunite at a conference, and while she is still struggling from her heartache, he seems to be mr. perfectly fine.
rating: general audiences
category: angst.
warnings: angst, no happy ending, alcohol consumption.
A/N: guess who finished this just now? me. that's who. I was actually working on this one long before the announcement for this event came out, but it gave me the motivation to continue this! Alex is unintentionally an ass in this and for that, i’m sorry. Anyways… hope you enjoy! (first part's pretty crappy, but after that it gets better.)
(this was also proofread, like...once, so of there are a plethora of errors i apologize)
____
The absolute last thing Jo wanted right now was to attend a medical conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. There were multiple reasons why she should’ve said no. One; she had just started her second year of her OB GYN residency a few weeks prior, and there were a very limited number of lectures on her new line of study where she was headed. Two; she now held an absolute hatred for the Seattle Tacoma International Airport, since it was the place where her ex-husband stood before her, placed a soft kiss on her lips and promised to see her in a couple of weeks, lying to her face about seeing his mother in Iowa, when in reality he was going to see his ex-wife and kids, never really planning on returning home.
It was ironic really; how not even two years ago, she was standing in front of gate 48, saying goodbye to him, and now she stood in the same spot, in front of the exact same gate, with him nowhere near her side as she glared up at the same exact entrance she last saw him at.
(She also now hated the number forty-eight)
But, since Meredith had been hounding her non-stop about attending this event, she gave in. Because how was she supposed to say no to the woman who had barely survived the pandemic? Along with a plethora of other things she was too lazy to memorize. (The answer was that she couldn’t. She felt guilty for leaving Meredith behind for OB, so she now did whatever her former mentor wanted, even if more than two years had passed) If Meredith Grey asked for something, Meredith Grey got it. She was turning back into the intern who cried fake tears and would do anything to earn her approval, and Jo was not a fan.
“It’ll be good for you Wilson. You need to leave that loft of your’s and go somewhere Wilson, blah blah blah,” she mutters to herself as she shows the attendant her ticket, not even bothering to return the smile, settling on brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear instead. The messy bun on the top of her head bounced in place, and she felt like a college student after a night of studying, but rather than books tucked under her arm it was a neck pillow and a carry-on.
She shuffles into her seat, thankful that it was an aisle one before letting her eyes shut, trying to catch a wink of sleep in an attempt to make up for the less than few hours she had gotten the night before. It proves to be unsuccessful, because the businessman sitting next to her ate his chips so loud she had to restrain herself from coiling into herself every time a chip crunched beneath his teeth, and the toddler behind her continuously managed to kick her seat, no matter how many times his mother told him to stop.
After three hours of loud chewing, seat kicking, and crying babies, she lands in Salt Lake, taking in a deep breath when she finally escapes the crowded airport and is met with humid air. She picks up her rental car, and arrives at her hotel not long after, immediately tossing her bags into the corner and sprawling onto the bed. Eventually, she moves to unpack her clothes and other necessities, casting a glance at the clock which read 10:37.
Taking a look around the room, she decided that nothing more needs to be done; all of her makeup is laid out for the morning, and what she chose to wear is already hanging up in the closet, freshly ironed and wrinkle-free. She yawns, crawling under the covers and flicking off the light, sleep coming easily.
When she wakes up the next morning to her alarm clock going off, she’s freshly rested and in a better mood than she normally was when she had to wake up before nine. The early morning sun beats down onto her face, and she knows that if she wanted to get to the first lecture on time, she needed to start getting ready sooner rather than later.
With a sigh, she begrudgingly gets out of bed, hopping in a quick shower and changing into her clothes. She adds some soft waves to her hair, in the hopes that it made her look more put together than she felt. It didn’t seem that just because she got hours of sleep made up for the fact that she would rather be curled up in the soft sheets of her bed at home than the stiff ones the hotel provided.
It doesn’t take long until she’s arrived in the lobby, where doctors all around her were dressed in firmly pressed suits and skirts. Tables advertising different events throughout the day were lined up and down the hallways, fellow surgeons and mentees passing out little pamphlets with information about their courses littering the pages.
Jo passes by a few stands displaying lectures on the OBGYN field, mentally making a list of the ones she would like to attend.
A quick glance to her watch tells her that the first item on her list was starting soon, and with that she dumps the now-empty coffee cup she had ordered a few minutes prior as a pick-me-up, and shuffles into the seat of the auditorium, the chairs around her filling up quicker than she expects.
It’s only a few minutes later Dr. Maria Cavanaugh steps out onto the stage, silencing the crowd after a round of applause. Jo leans back into her seat, feeling grateful that Meredith had pushed her to go to this conference.
If her whole weekend is spent listening to experts talk and teach about her new specialty, she thinks she’s going to enjoy it.
____
It’s hours and a multitude of lectures later when she exits another grand room, fellow surgeons beside her chatting about the new information they’d acquired. She feels a small smile grace her lips as she realizes that the excited squeals could only come from the med school students that had been invited from the nearby college.
She pulls out her phone, seeing a text from Link and Meredith, both along the lines of that they hoped she arrived safely and that she enjoyed her time away from home. She responds, pocketing her phone and making her way to the hotel bar, settling into one of the few empty seats and ordering a whiskey sour, thanking the bartender when it's placed in front of her not even a minute later.
She sips the drink slowly, feeling some leftover tenseness from sitting all day leave her body as the alcohol starts to flow through her veins. She was far from drunk, but even saying tipsy felt like too much of a stretch.
Pleasantly buzzed, she decides on, taking another sip of her drink, making a brief second of eye contact with a man on the other end of the bar. He raises her glass with a slight nod of his head, and she does the same. She’s tempted to continue; take use of the way the man’s making subtle glances to the seat next to him when her ears pick up another conversion from a few feet away, freezing her in place, glass nearly dropping to the floor.
“Do you want anything?”
“Just a water’s fine. I’m gonna go talk to Dr. Conwell about some of the research her and her team were talking about.”
She turns in her seat, against her better judgment. She watches as he kisses her cheek before leaning against the bar’s counter a few feet away.
She feels as if ice had just been dropped down her back —frozen in place, unable to move as she watches Alex drum his fingers on the dark wood, head nodding along to the soft tune playing through the speakers. He grabs his drinks from the bartender; two waters, one with ice and one without, about to walk towards the woman he was with earlier when he spots her.
“Jo?” he questions, blinking multiple times as if to see if it was really her, and not a trick of the light.
She wants to run when he makes his way over to her. She wants to run, and scream, and throw her drink in his face. But instead, she places a tight, thin smile on her lips and acts as if nothing was wrong.
“Alex, hi!” She turns to face him, her voice too high for her enthusiasm to be true, but if he knows it he doesn’t make any move to show it.
He runs a hand through his hair —it's longer than the last time she saw it, a bit of grey speckled in so lightly that it wouldn’t be noticeable to someone who wasn’t looking.”I uh, I didn't know you’d be here.”
She wants to roll her eyes, but refrains. “Well,” she spins her drink with the straw, watching as the ice cubes clink against the glass “The feeling’s mutual.”
“How are you?” He asks after a few beats of silence, and she wants nothing more than to yell at him that he couldn’t talk to her like this —like they were old friends who had lost contact after a while, and were due for a catch up. Because they weren’t old friends. They were so far from friends that someone could build a bridge with the amount of space they had between them.
“Fine,” she lies through her teeth, her heart nearly beating out of her chest in nervousness. She was worried that she was going to break down at any second, spew the words that she had said to Carly in anger at him if he looked at her any longer as if things were okay between them.
“You?” she questions, not interested in the answer, sipping her drink similarly to how she had the night of Bailey’s wedding, the unwelcome memory of the start of their relationship blossoming to the front of her mind.
He sips his water, “Good. I’ve been good.”
With his hand clasped around the glass she catches sight of the pristine, shiny gold ring that sits on his fourth finger, and she has to fight back the growing lump in her throat that threatens to escape.
“Congrats,” she says instead, eyebrows pinched together as she nods towards the ring, a tell that always told whether or not her words rang true.
He seems to have forgotten that, and takes her words as a compliment. He gives her a small smile, “Thanks.”
Jo wants to laugh, because this was so far from the Alex Karev she had known, the man in front of her unfamiliar and so, so different from the one she married years ago. The Alex she knew would’ve never ordered a water instead of a beer, or act as if everything was okay between them when it was so far from it.
He’d changed, and she couldn’t say that she liked it.
“How are the kids?” she asks, and she can tell that she’s surprised him. He looks taken aback for a moment, before smiling gently and reaching into his pocket for his phone. “They’re great,” he says, pulling up a photo of them, the twins smiling brightly into the camera.
“That was at their birthday party last week,” he explains, and she notices the large 7 balloons that are floating in the background.
“He looks like you,” she comments about the boy. He grins, and she wants nothing more than to slap him for not being able to see that she’s so obviously hurting, that her heart is breaking inside of her chest. That she selfishly wants him to say that he made a mistake, that he was in love with her, not Izzie. But her life wasn’t a trashy romance novel, and even if it was, Alex was never one to admit to his faults, his pride and ego too large to have it bruised in such a way.
She had always wondered what he had been up to after he had left. If he was okay. She’d imagined different futures for him, some including Izzie and the kids, some of them not. She’s even naively envisioned ones with her and the children they had always talked about having one day.
Somedays, when she was feeling worse for wear, she had wished that he was miserable —that he and Izzie weren’t together and as far as they went communication-wise was a phone call to see who had the kids that week; that he was as alone and bitter as she was.
But instead, here he was, Mr. Perfectly Fine. The man who had looked her in the eyes and told her he would never go away.
Here he was, Mr. Perfectly Fine. Married to the woman he had left her for, a shiny gold ring on his finger instead of neat, polished wood.
For the past two years she’d been picking up the pieces of herself that he had shattered and left behind, only just starting to put herself back together, and here he was, Mr. Perfectly Fine. While she was piecing together her shattered heart, he was picking up her, the woman he had left her for.
She had thought that he was different from the rest; different from everyone who had ever left her. But he wasn’t —the man she had thought was so different was so exactly the same as everyone else.
“I’m sorry, Jo.” he says, and she has the urge to laugh —laugh because he wasn’t sorry, she could tell. He was sorry that he left her and caused her pain, sure. But he wasn’t sorry that he had done it, that he had married Izzie again and lived with her and his kids on a farm in the middle of Kansas. He wasn’t sorry about that at all.
Mr. Insincere Apology so he didn’t look like the bad guy.
She acts as if she believes him, giving him another tight smile, and lies through her teeth once more. “It’s fine Alex. It’s in the past.”
Jo checks phone, making a face when she ‘realizes’ the time, eager to get out of there as soon as she could. “I need to go, early morning,” she fibs, and she internally rolls her eyes at how he believes her. While he seemed to have forgotten everything about her, she still remembers every detail about him.
“It was nice seeing you again Jo,” he’s playing with the sleeves of his jacket and his eyes meet hers, and for less than a second it’s almost enough to break her resolve.
Another tight smile graces her lips, and she begins to walk away when her body fights her mind and she finds herself leaning down, her lips against his ear.
“I’m glad it was worth it, Alex.”
Her voice is harsh and bitter, yet broken, and she doesn’t need to look at him to know that his face has fallen, and he’s realized that everything she’d told him that night was a lie. She turns and lets the tears fall silently, making her way back up to her room with a head full of thoughts about her ex-husband, about Alex Karev.
About Mr. Perfectly Fine.

But with tensions growing between the two families, one decision could change the course of their lives as they know it, for better and for worse.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | *Part 4* | Part 5
“Alright Y/N, now when you aim you gotta line yer eyes up with the sight. Take a deep breath, and on that exhale of yours yer gonna pull that little trigger right there.” Alfie said, the teenage girl only coming up to around his chest, her hands shaking slightly as she aimed the small hand gun for one of the flour sacks in the back of the shop. With a small exhale she fired, the bullet whirling through the air and into the target she’d helped draw on it the day before.
“See that’s not so hard innit?” He asked, smiling at the new light in his life.
Y/N heard her father calling for her upstairs, bringing her out of her daydreams from years ago. That was during the first week she’d lived with him after he adopted her from the nearby orphanage. She had no adoptive mother, and no other friends except their dog Cyril, seeing as she had to be practically hidden away on a daily basis. The only time she really went out was to work in her fathers shop, where she’d do her best to avoid being spotted by her fathers business partners-some of which who had strained relationships with him and his men.
Shaking the memory from her brain, she hesitantly walked up the stairs, the creaking of the wood announcing her arrival.
“There you are love. Listen...I’m having Mr. Shelby come by soon so you’ll have to work in the back alright? I know you’ll get me for it later but I’ll make up for it mmkay?” He said, looking his now 21 year old daughter in the eyes. People often found him intimidating, but over the years she grew used to him, knowing deep down he was a sweet person. With every interaction she observed, she could see the pain in his eyes over not being able to really introduce her, knowing it would put her at risk. But deep down there was a mutual understanding between them that it was going to be inevitable that someone would find out, but neither of them thought it would be so soon.
With a sigh, she reluctantly walked towards the back where the other “bakers” worked the ovens and inspected shipments. While she organized bricks of cocaine for shipment, she felt her stomach drop as she realized she’d left her gloves in the front of the shop. She often hated the texture of the bricks as she packed them away, the fabric gloves being her only solace when she was given the task.
Swallowing hard, she nervously crept around the corner, eyeing Thomas Shelby and some of the other blinders in her fathers office as she continued, not noticing the man she collided with as she stumbled back slightly.
“Oi! I’m so sorry sir...wasn’t even fuckin’ looking.” She said, brushing a stray hair from her face and tightening her apron around her waist.
“No problem love, you alright?” He asked, looking concerned as he adjusted his well tailored suit.
“Y-yeah. Just looking for my gloves. I have to go.” She said, knowing she wasn’t supposed to be out for long while the blinders were there, yet trying to not look the dashing man in the eyes.
As she walked away, his eyes followed her to her station where she usually rolled dough and decorated pastries, grabbing her gloves which were tinted white from the previous cocaine shipment she handled earlier in the morning.
“Hey...miss? Before you go...what’s your name?” He asked, a crooked smile spreading across his features as she neared him.
“Uhm...it’s Y/N. What’s yours? You don’t look like you’re from ‘round here.” She said.
“I’m Michael, Michael Gray. I’m with the blinders.” He said.
“Oh....um, well I have to get going. It was nice meeting you...Michael.” She said, awkwardly putting on the gloves as he recognized the powder falling off them.
“What do you around here anyway? I know that’s not flour on those gloves.” He said with a smirk. She swallowed hard before answering, her eyes flicking to the window of her fathers office.
“Um...I bake, and...I organize things. Listen...I really do have to go. I’ll see you ‘round sometime, yeah?” She asked. He followed her gaze to the window, noticing the nervous look on her face.
“Alright. See you around, Y/N.” He said with a wink, walking back to his lookout spot in the corner.
She smirked slightly as she passed him, reluctantly heading straight to the back, the other workers paying her no mind as she resumed packing the bricks.
As she worked, she could hear shouts coming from her fathers office, her stomach tightening in knots at the tension she could see forming in the room. Thomas and him standing close to each other, most likely mumbling threats under their breaths. A few moments later, she saw the men exit the tattered room, putting their razored caps on and storming out the door. Michael ultimately leaving with them, but catching her staring as he looked back towards the room she was in. She smiled lightly as he smirked, shutting the door behind him.
She shook her head as she turned back, getting the rest of her packing done while shaking away the thought of someone like him ever taking an interest. She knew her father dealt in dangerous business, so she wasn’t afraid of the blinders and her father doing business necessarily, but she couldn’t deny that them feuding terrified her, knowing even one slip-up could put her or her father at risk. Blowing their years-long cover.
As she was lost in thought, Alfie walked down after they left, smiling as he grabbed a bottle of rum from one of the crates and locking it back.
“You don’t have to organize all those love. How about we go call it a day aye? I know you’re probably wanting summing’ because your old man made ya work back ‘ere all day.” He said. His words annoying to her ears as of late as she grew bored of her life at the shop and at home. One question forever buzzing in the back of her mind as she continued her monotonous tasks.
“I was wondering something....” She said, taking her gloves off and turning towards him.
“Yeah? Wondering about work or what? I’m all ears now you know.” He said, taking a swig from the bottle in his hand.
Her stomach tightened again as she looked her loving, yet over-protective father in the eyes.
“I was uh...wondering how you would feel if I moved out?” She asked, the thought barely working its way through her anxious mind before spewing out of her mouth.
“What?” He asked, his eyes squinting as he cocked his head to the side.
“I-I just think since I’m an adult now, I’d like to have a place of my own. That way I won’t come between ya and the business as much. I’m tired of hiding, dad.” She said, throwing the gloves on the table as she sat next to him.
“What devils gotten into your bones? Have you been sniffing the snow or drinking me rum?” He asked.
“No dad....I just...I just want to be more independent that’s all.” She said.
“I’ll tell ya what...if you pack the snow for the next month I’ll up your pay so you can get you a place. I’ll chip in some too but getting it on your own will be good for ya. I taught you to shoot but I didn’t teach ya about life aye?” He said.
“No not really. But spare me the lectures. Let’s get home. I’m starving.” She said.
“Alright. Let’s get on with it then.” He said, walking with his cane as they made their way to the car.
As the next few weeks passed, she found herself going into work with a smile. Knowing she’d get to work towards her own place, and for the chance to see the dapper blinder who’d been making regular appearances lately, and to her surprise, for more than business reasons.
He’d been sent by Thomas to crunch numbers and talk bets with Alfie, knowing that he was sent to handle more of the legitimate business than the illegal stuff.
But if Y/N learned anything throughout her years, it was knowing when to make herself known.
She waited until Alfie closed his office door, watching Michael walk down the creaky steps as she did a small whistle.
He turned around and grinned, walking towards her, as was becoming their habit recently.
“Y/N, didn’t think you were here, love. Must’ve been in the back again aye?” He asked, quietly. She nodded and led him to one of the women’s lavatories.
“W-why are we in here? I haven’t even taken you on a date.” He asked, a mischievous grin on his lips.
“Shh. There’s no other place right now for us to go. I haven’t told him.” She said.
“Told who?” He asked.
“My-my father. Alfie.” She said, nervously biting her lip as she removed her hand from his. Crossing her arms over her chest.
“Wait...your father is Alfie fucking Solomons?” He asked, his face hardening at the fact. His usual happy demeanor fading.
“Well, adoptive father. He uh adopted me when I was 16 from an orphanage ’round here. He wanted to protect me...from uh...people like you. I guess he’s had some bad history with the blinders and other groups so I’ve been most my life, just working here to pass the time.” She said.
“People like me? What...are you afraid of me?” He asked.
“What? No! I’ve been around dangerous men all my life. I’m just saying that your blinder cousins may not take a liking to me and neither will my father to you. I just have a bad feeling about it.” She said.
“So...what are we to do? Fucking talk in the bathroom every week or what?” He asked, a small smirk playing at his lips.
“We’ll do what I do best. We’ll have to hide.” She said. He looked at her with a confused expression as he put his hand on her hips.
“I get off at 4pm and my father won’t be home until late at night. I usually go straight home, but meet me at the warehouse later around 7pm, yeah?” She asked, seeing him smirk.
“Michael I’m deadly serious. If Thomas or my father finds out we’re as good as dead.” She said.
“Fine...I’ll meet you, but I want you to bring some of the snow. Can you sneak it out?” He asked.
“Yeah. Alright, now go, the workers are coming down the hall.” She said, hearing the plethora of Alfie’s men stomping down the dark hall, making it easier for Michael to slip out un-noticed.
“See you then, Y/N.” He said, pecking her cheek before he left.
She rubbed the spot, her cheeks flushing at the brief contact.
“Y/N?” Alfie’s voice rang from the hall, making her heart race as she thought of all the reasons he could be asking for her, internally praying that it wasn’t because he caught Michael leaving.
“Yeah dad?” She asked, quickly stepping out of the restroom.
“Thought ya ran off love. I was just gonna remind ya I’m working late again.” He said.
“Alright, how many nights are you working late?” She asked.
“Well, probably every day for this month. Thomas and the rest of his blinders are damn near making me lose me mind.” He said.
“Oh...ok. Well I’ll keep an eye on Cyril then. Is it ok if I go out to the shops later? Been wanting to stock up for the new place, for whenever I get it.” She said.
“I mean I’m not going to be there so I can’t stop ya can’t I? You can but remember your gun and that knife. You remember how to use it aye?” He asked.
“Yes dad, I can’t really forget stabbing a man for you, nor can I forget putting a bullet through his head.” She said, shivering slightly at the memory of when things got tense at the shop with a disgruntled employee. Alfie had beaten the man unconscious and dragged the man to the back, telling her that it would be good practice. And it was, but after it was done, she vowed to herself that she’d never use such weapons unless she had to.
“Right, well I have to go deal with some business. I’ll let you off at 4 like usual alright?” He asked.
“Okay, thanks dad. I’ll see you...I guess tomorrow depending on how late you get in.” She said giving him a hug before walking back to her station.
The last few hours dragged on as she reminisced over the past couple of weeks. Her heart skipped a beat thinking about how they’d secretly talk and make out behind the shop where her dad couldn’t see, and how on days like today she had to drag him into the restroom as her heart beat out of her chest at the rebelliousness of it all. It was nothing compared to what she planned to get away with tonight, and for hopefully weeks to come, but it was a small step towards her independence, even if they had to hide their relationship from the world.
As the clock struck 4 she headed towards the back of the building, snagging a bottle of rum from an opened crate and replacing it with one that had just came off the line for the night. Shoving the bottle in her purse as she grabbed a rather small brick of cocaine, it being one of the various runts in the pile they’d received that day.
With quick steps, she went out the door and down to the car that was waiting for her. The purse growing slightly heavy as she continued on. Her father didn’t want her walking home alone of course, and so he arranged for one of his men to routinely take her home, ultimately becoming a blessing and a curse for her independence she was so desperately trying to achieve.
“Hello Tim, I have an odd request today.” She said, counting the huge wad of cash in her purse she’d managed to save up well before asking about apartments
“What’s that Ms.Solomons?” He asked, hid old face wrinkling with a smile.
“Can we stop by the housing department? I’ve had my eye on an apartment for a few weeks. Don’t worry though, I’ve already gotten my fathers approval.” She said, pulling off her biggest lie yet.
“Alright, after that do you wish to go home? He asked.
“Yes please.” She said, watching as the streets zipped by.
Once at the housing department, she told the landlord where she’d like to stay and she followed her to the requested location. Her eyes lit up as she saw the rather grand place. It was just close enough that her father needn’t worry too much while also being just enough of a distance away from the shops she loved going to. It was a rather safe area given the town and her fathers plethora of men protecting her, but she enjoyed the new sense of independence as she gave the woman a cash deposit, along with enough for the years rent.
The woman’s eyes lit up as she saw the amount of cash, Y/N rather un-phased given her fathers business.
“Are you sure Ms.? This is so much in advance.” She said.
“Yes. When shall I move in?” She asked. Checking her watch and seeing it was just after 5pm.
“Oh I’d say ‘round any time next week. Here’s your key, just drop by before you begin moving in.” She said with a smile as she got in her car and left.
“Alright Tim, I’m ready to go home.” She said, a satisfied smile on her face.
“I’m impressed. You got this place yourself? Alfie must be proud.” He said.
“Mhmm.” Y/N said, nervously fidgeting with her hands as she remembered the lie. He’d have her neck if he knew she’d already bought the place earlier than he would’ve liked. But what could it hurt?
The minutes passed rather quickly as she was dropped off at her house, walking inside to see Cyril’s tail wagging as she came through the front door. The house was dimly lit and quiet, just as she’d left it that morning. She played with him and made sure his water bowl was filled, seeing as the maid would help feed him later, but she still loved helping wherever she could.
“Ms. Y/N, I have your dress ready. I’ll feed the dog later and make sure the house is kept before leaving. I hope you enjoy your date.” The older woman said, a genuine smile on her face.
“Thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much you’ve helped me these last few weeks. Here.” She said, giving her a few slips of cash from her purse.
“Just as a thank you. I’ll be moving in next week to my apartment. Dad doesn’t know though so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t tell him.” She said.
The maids eyes widened at the cash in her hand, agreeing with a small smile and a quick nod before returning to her duties. As much as she loved this house, she wanted to do things on her own terms. She wanted to meet people on her own terms, and finally not hide herself. To make more friends than just the maid. To start actually living.
With an excited smile she ran up the stairs, putting the casual dress on and doing her makeup, deciding to leave her hair as-is, then anxiously making her way outside. The purses weight tugging at her shoulder as she walked down the quiet streets, her gun in her purse and her small knife in hand.
Once she neared the warehouse, she sat around the back, taking a swig of the rum before Michael got there to calm her nerves.
She watched the sun set over Camden Town, the birds songs ending as the insects buzzed about, the air turning a bit colder as she looked at her watch. It was just after 7pm, her heart sinking in her chest as she thought he’d stood her up. But after a few moments, she heard footsteps, making her panic slightly not knowing who was behind them. She carefully drew her gun, aiming at the man as he walked closer, his hands soon up in surrender.
“Y/N? It’s me. Michael.” He said, a smirk on his face, lowering his hands.
“I figured you were ‘round back, didn’t think you’d try to shoot me though.” He said.
“Sorry. You never know out here.” She said, putting her gun away and retrieving the cocaine and rum.
“You carried all that here? I’m impressed.” He said, inspecting the cocaine as she opened the bottle, taking another swig from it. She cringed internally as the liquid burned her throat. She’d only drank a few times, not to any huge extent, but now that she was older and more capable, she figured she at least could drink how she pleased.
“How’d you score this rum?” He asked, taking a swig from the bottle as well.
“I stole it from my dads stash in the back. And that coke is one of the runts of the batch, it was too small to pack in the big crates. Figured I’d bring the whole thing since you seemed to know about it a couple weeks ago.” She said, smirking at the memory of their first awkward meeting.
“Have you tried it?” He asked, leaning back against the wall of the warehouse.
“No.” She said turning away from his gaze as she nervously brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
“It’s easy. Watch.” He said, unwrapping it and shaving off a sliver of the white substance with her knife. He sat it on top of the brick and made sure it was all crushed, forming it in a straight line.
He handed her the brick carefully as she held it up towards his face, him inhaling the powder through his nose in one fell swoop.
“You want me to shove that shit up my nose? Are you mad?” She asked, giggling as she took another swig from the rum.
“Yeah. Can’t hide from everything love.” He said, his words hitting home probably more than he realized.
“Alright, if I die, my fathers gonna have your head on a spike.” She said.
“That’s a risk I’m willing to take.” He said, preparing a smaller amount of the drug and holding it up to where she could inhale it through her nose. Her nostril burned as she did so, the foreign particles lacing their way through her system.
She laughed and shook her head, wiping her nose of any excess powder as she looked up at Michael who was chuckling slightly.
“That was so odd. I’m not doing that again. Not right now anyway.” She said, handing him the bottle of rum as she curled up next to him. It had only been about a month since they’d met, but even then, their interactions became more frequent.
Over the next few weeks, it was as if they’d known each other for years the way they got on. His aunt Polly eventually seeing a spark in his eye that wasn’t there before, and the same went for Alfie.
“You’ve met someone. I can tell.” Polly said one night, catching him coming in drunk on more than one occasion.
“Yeah I did. Tommy can’t do anything about it. It’s not his concern so don’t go telling him.” He said as he stumbled into the house.
As Michael grappled with the weight of seeing an adversaries daughter, Y/N had gradually moved things into her apartment with the help of her driver, all under her fathers nose. But she knew that once her room was more vacant, he’d catch on. Knowing if the blinders didn’t anger him enough, her leaving suddenly surely would.
One night after a drunken date with her mystery boyfriend, Alfie confronted her. Holding the small brick they’d chipped away at over the previous weeks.
“Oi! You wanna explain this? No daughter of mine is going to be sneaking drugs in me house. Do you really think I’m dumb? Cuz I guarantee you I’m not. This can’t happen. Not under my roof.” He said, lighting his cigar.
“Well if you didn’t want to pack it anyway I thought I might as well put it to good use. But uh, I’ll be sneaking it under me own roof from now on. I’ve bought a place if you couldn’t already tell from barging in my room to find that.” She said, folding her arms like she often did when she was frustrated.
Alfie stepped closer to her, his eyes not leaving hers as she barely flinched.
“I’ll find out who you’re doing all this for. Once I do, you’ll wish ya never stole a thing.” He said, walking towards his chair he usually sat on in their grand living room.
Y/N shook her head and chuckled to herself, stomping off towards her room. Her mind raced as she thought about what to do, grabbing what was left of her clothes and hurling them into her suitcases, deciding to leave the house for good in the morning.
Alfie sighed and sat back in his chair as he heard Y/N rummaging around upstairs. The sweet girl he helped raise all of a sudden wanting to leave the nest.
It seemed like everything was fine in their lives until the peaky fucking blinders waltzed into his shop. Not caring who they destroyed as long as they got their money, their rum, or their drugs.

We’re the Lucky Ones (Christen Press x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: the reader is a recovering drug addict and doesn’t think they deserve everything they have? if you want to maybe incorporate cp as the reader's wife
Author’s Note: This one was also going to be way more angsty, but when i sat down to write it, this popped out. I hope you enjoy! Hit me up with comments, and feedback or if you just wanna say Hi!
The little red poker chip felt heavy in your hand, the ridges catching on your fingers as you rubbed it. As you traced the little 1 that was imprinted in the center.
A year ago, you never thought that you would see this day. The day that marked your 1 year anniversary of being clean. The fight to get here was rough, an uphill climb they called it, but you could honestly say that you felt so much better like this. And it helped that you were no longer at risk of losing everything you held near and dear to you. That you no longer had to push them away out of fear.
“You ready babe?” Christen asked from the driver's seat beside you. Her hand moved to cover your own, stopping you from rolling the poker chip between your fingers. You sighed, finally meeting her eyes.
“You promise it’s just Tobin, Kell, and Lex right? Like the youngins didn’t convince you that I wanted a party?” You asked hesitantly. While some people thought that it was a celebratory occasion, you just wanted it to be normal.
You shouldn’t need a one-year sobriety date at all. They shouldn’t have to worry about you taking pain killers after a game. You shouldn’t have let them down in the first place, and you didn’t want to draw any more attention to your worst life choices and coping mechanisms than absolutely necessary.
****
See, 2016 had been very difficult. Your mom died three weeks before the start of the Olympics, and your dad forbade you from going to the funeral because you were dating Christen. Then three games in you had a collision with a Canadian defender and ended up with a broken clavicle, benching you for the rest of the tournament. The team lost and Christen was devastated and you couldn’t help but blame yourself because you were benched.
Instead of coping like a normal person, you self medicated with the pain pills you were given. You limped along like that, abusing pain meds and hiding your spiraling from your wife and your friends. Things had come to a head 7 months before the World Cup, and you had almost lost everything. You went to rehab, made the team, and brought home the gold.
*****
“It’s only Tobin, Kell, and Lex and we’re just going to play some footie and get some ice cream,” Christen nodded, bringing her hand up to affectionately rub your cheek and pull you in for a chaste kiss. You smiled and your shoulders relax as you released a deep breath you didn’t know you were holding.
“Cool,” You mumbled, resting your forehead on her shoulder and taking in the comforting smell that surrounded her. You loved your wife and you would tell her every day. She ran her fingers through your hair, scratching your scalp. Her head rested on yours.
“I’m so proud of you,” She murmured, kissing the sling just behind your ear.
“You shouldn’t have to be,” you grumbled, sitting up and straightening your shirt.
“Well I am,” She smiled triumphantly, more than used to you wanting to minimize every one of your sobriety milestones. She knew how hard you worked to make unnecessary amends. You were the one who decided to accept help and the one who took each very difficult step in recovery. And she would stand by you and help you through the rest.
*****
A day playing footie with your best friends and wife was exactly what you needed to lift your spirits. Between Kelley’s antics and Tobin's jokes, you were in a better mood than ever. Alex’s pout every time you megged her was priceless and Christens giggle put you even more at ease.
You were sitting under a tree, as it was your turn to sit out in the 2 v 2 game, focusing on Christen’s footwork (definitely not checking her out).
You were staring so intently that you didn’t see the other ball flying in your direction, only looking up when a loud “Hey look out!!!” Caught your attention. You moved just in time to catch the soccer ball headed straight for your head, smiling at a little girl who came racing your way.
“Whoa, kid, nice foot you got there,” You laughed, tossing the ball back towards the little girl, her cheeks flaming red.
“I promise I wasn’t aiming for you!” The girl rushed out, not noticing your friends walking up behind her, nearly jumping out of her skin when Tobin grasper hef shoulder.
“Don’t tell her that kid, makes the shot way less impressive,”
“What’s your name?” Alex asked, kneeling down to be eye level with her.
“C-Camren,” She stuttered, clearly enamored by the number of national team players surrounding her.
“Well Camren, since you almost pegged me in the head, how bout I sign it for ya?” You sent her a lopsided grin.
“Really?” Camren asked with wide eyes.
“Sure kid,” Your wife nods, picking up her purse from behind you to get a marker. She dug through her bag looking for a Sharpe she kept for this occasion.
“Excuse me, I don’t want to cause a problem, but are you sure she should be around kids?” A woman who she assumed was the child’s mom approached her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. Christen looked up at the woman, raising her eyebrow.
“Why?”
“Well I’m sure you ladies are aware of her… history,” The woman said hesitantly, glancing your way with disdain, and you froze the ball falling to the grass.
“Oh, right,” you cleared your throat, trying to squash the feeling of shame, your good mood suddenly gone. You glanced down at the ball settled in the grass, refusing to look up.“well I’m sure my friends would like to sign your ball,” You sent the girl a pained smile, covering your grimace.
“They certainly make better role models, honestly I don’t know how you stayed with her after everything she pulled,” Camren’s mother snorted as you stood, her lip curling. “you don’t deserve her,”
Your shoulders sunk and you nodded.
“I know, I’m gonna go,” you mumbled, pointing towards the car. You knew that Christen deserved so much better than you, but having it thrown in your face hurt.
“I’ll go with you,” Kelley leaped up, intertwining your arms and shooting your wife a questioning glance.
“I’ll be there in a second,” She waves you off, her lips forming a thin line. Tobin took off after you, stealing your hat when she caught up.
“Good riddance,” The lady mumbled under her breath, staring a hole in your back as you left, missing the agitated glance Alex and Christen shared. Today was about covertly celebrating how well you were doing, about combatting the thoughts that you struggled with, not dredging up the past.
“You know, she’s the strongest person I’ve ever met, and it’s a shame that you can’t see past a mistake,” Alex said deadly calm. The woman scoffed, waving her hand dismissively.
“Once an addict always an addict,”
“See that’s the problem, you think you know her and the whole story and you don’t. Your kids would be lucky to turn out half as well as she has. She made her mistake and works every day to make up for it,” Christen ground out with, not sparing the woman another glance as she gathered up your belonging and stalked off towards you, shaking her head. How could people be so close-minded?
*****
You licked your ice cream slowly, refusing to make eye contact with the four women shooting you worried glances. You were being very quiet, too quiet.
Kelley raised her eyebrows, tilting her head in your direction and making a bunch of weird facial expressions as if to say that they needed to do something about your mopeyness. It had plagued you for a long time, your unyielding need for atonement, despite having already received it.
Christen shook her head, afraid that pushing you would do more harm than good. Kelley rolled her eyes, deciding that if no one else was going to do it, then she was.
“Don’t listen to any of the shit that lady said,” She said offhandedly, licking her cone and completely stopping the flow of the small talk the other three women had been having. You froze, pulling the spoon out of your mouth with a pop, wide eyeing the group.
“I just..- she’s right. No kid should ever look up to an ex-drug addict,” You mumbled, returning your spoon to the icecream and stirring it, staring at it intently.
“No, they should look up to the woman who has sought help,” Your wife hummed, placing a finger under your chin and forcing your y/e/c orbs to meet your own.
“The woman who would do anything for her friends, even if it meant burying all of her own pain,” Tobin added, her hand covering yours and rubbing circles on it.
“The most loving and supportive women that I’ve ever met,” Alex smiled, nudging your shoulder, effectively creating an Y/n sandwich with Kelley. Christen placed a chaste and gentle kiss on your lips, leaving behind the taste of her pistachio ice cream. You licked your lips chasing the flavor.
“I’m lucky to have you guys. I don’t think I would have been able to do this without you,” You murmured, pulling the little red chip from your pocket and spinning it absentmindedly through your fingers. It was a habit you had acquired in rehab that followed you throughout your recovery. You flicked the chip with your thumb, sending it tumbling through the air, only for it to be caught by Kelley. Your eyes snapped or hers.
“We’re the lucky ones to have someone as strong as you,”

Much love to you all, and happy holidays! I hope you enjoy!!
LET’S DO IT!
~~~~~~
The night was cold as you walked quietly down the street, the old cardigan your best friend gave you wrapped tightly around your shoulders. You weren’t dressed for the mid-october weather, your shorts and tank tops providing little warmth on your shivering body. As much as you hated the cold, it felt good to feel something again.
November was approaching quickly, and as you walked down the street that cold october night, you realized that you hadn’t had a true spark of happiness since that July. Of course, there were moments of joy, but it was never consistent, and lasted a day at the most.
You couldn’t seem to pinpoint the exact moment where everything went wrong, no matter how many times you’d tried. Countless times, you’d retraced your footsteps to find the moment your despair began. Unfortunately, this only resulted in distant memories from better times becoming fresh in your mind, pushing you deeper into the dark hole you were trapped in.
For a while, no one noticed a difference. Your group of friends, whom you adored, didn’t bat an eye when you left a party early because you were ‘tired’ or ‘not in the mood’, despite the fact that you loved parties. It hurt a little that they didn’t see a problem, and that only made the problem worse.
The first person to notice was JJ, your loving boyfriend. The blonde boy was the light of your life, but as your own issues began to overtake you, you found yourself pushing him away unintentionally. He would send texts, asking you to come over and see him. He'd invite you to come out to dinner with the pogues at The Wreck. He’d beg for your permission to show up at your house because he missed you so damn much.
Time after time, you replied with perfectly crafted excuses that left him concerned, but with no questions. That’s all you needed to accomplish, really. If he didn’t ask any questions, then you’d be fine.
The routine was working out pretty well for you in the beginning. JJ and the rest of the group would accept your excuses and go along with what you told them, even if they found it slightly suspicious.
But, after a while, your constant absence finally hit them. It was concerning, especially when it came to someone like you. Your parents weren’t strict, so it wasn’t an obedience thing. You loved parties, and were quite social, so it wasn’t a social anxiety thing. They wondered at their hangouts what could be wrong, but none of them could come up with a viable explanation.
Texts from your friends were lighting up your phone at a constant rate, but you trained yourself to ignore them. Your mind had convinced you that all of them hated you, and were only messaging you as a joke, or because they felt bad.
Though your brain tried to tell itself that JJ didn’t love you either, you were fighting hard against that idea. Even the slightest notion of your boyfriend no longer being interested in you broke you down into tears, so you tried to allow the thought to cross your mind as little as possible.
He texted you every day, asking if you were okay and trying to make plans. He texted you good morning, and goodnight, as well as a few other times throughout the day. He was a wonderful boyfriend, and you appreciated him, but you didn’t have the energy to show him the attention he deserved. You texted back for a while, but eventually gave up, leaving him on read almost every single time.
For the last few weeks, JJ had been broken up with worry. He worried that you were mad at him, that you hated him. He worried that you were leaving him. So, he showed up at your house.
As soon as he walked in your room, he could tell that something was incredibly off. You were normally a somewhat neat person, but your room was in complete disarray. Clothes littered the floor, empty plates and half-eaten bags of chips tossed absentmindedly to various locations.
And you. You looked like you hadn’t changed or bathed in weeks. Your hair was messy, and your face looked as if you’d been crying for years.
When you saw his face, your mask slipped on without a second thought.
“JJ! Hi, babes!”
“Hi, angel.” He replied, concern evident in his voice as he spoke. “I haven’t really seen you in forever. Are you okay?”
You nodded immediately, concealing your true feelings. “I’m okay. I’ve been taking up extra shifts at work because I need money for college soon. I’m trying to save up early. I’ve been so busy and exhausted, I just haven’t had the time or energy to see anybody.”
Lie. You got fired from your job a month ago because you called out ‘sick’ too many times.
JJ was still suspicious, but went accepted your story just as he had many times before.
“Alright, babe. I just miss you a lot. Take a break soon. Are you working tonight?”
“No.” You couldn’t bring yourself to lie to him again.
“Well, then, you’re coming to hang out.”
You shook your head quickly, pulling your hands away from his. “No thanks, JJ. I had a late shift last night and I’m exhausted. Plus, I have an early shift tomorrow morning, and I refuse to go in hungover.”
JJ took your hands back into his, meeting your eyes. “You don’t have to stay late, and you don’t have to drink. Just come for a little bit. Like, literally for an hour. We all just miss you so much.”
When he was looking into your eyes like that, you couldn’t help but say yes. Though you knew you’d come to regret it, the smile on his face after you agreed made it all seem worth it at the time.
“Yes! Okay, my love, I have to go deliver some stuff for Pope’s dad. The party starts at ten, so I’ll pick you up at nine-thirty.”
You didn’t say anything, simply nodding to indicate that you’d heard him and understood what he said.
“Bye, baby. I’ll see you tonight. I love you.”
“I love you, too.” It was barely a whisper, but it seemed to be enough for JJ. He gave you one final wave before exiting your bedroom and closing the door in his wake.
When he had gone, your anxiety began to cover you. You had come to hate gatherings and parties, despite the fact that they used to be your main source of happiness and excitement. How were you going to make it through this party?
Sighing, you turned to your bedside table, moving around empty cups to peer at the time on your alarm clock. It was hard to read due to the tears in your eyes blurring your vision slightly. After a moment, you were able to decipher the numbers on the screen. 8:06 PM. You had approximately an hour and half to get ready before your boyfriend would be there to pick you up.
The first half hour, you decided, would be used for praying you were able to make it through this night.
---
About 70 minutes after your boyfriend’s visit, the clock on your bedside table read 9:12 PM. You sat at your vanity, brushing on small amounts of makeup. You didn’t want anything too crazy like you used to do; it just didn’t feel right anymore.
The same thing applied to your outfit. After almost an hour of trying things on, you went for something simple. A sage green tank top, your favorite blue jean shorts, and a basic oversized white cardigan kie had given you. The outfit was basic, but cute nonetheless. You completed the look with your pair of slip-on vans that were so beat up they could barely be classified as white anymore.
Your hair, which you normally would curl or style for parties, had been brushed through and left down. That was all you had the energy for. The party hadn’t even started yet, and you were already exhausted.
At least you had showered. It had been over a week since you last bathed, and this party gave you incentive to take care of yourself. That’s the only thing you were grateful for when it came to this party.
As you finished getting ready, you promised yourself that you would try your best to enjoy the night.
JJ had come to pick you up as he told you he would, at nine-thirty on the dot. He was always careful to be very punctual when it comes to you. He said you looked pretty when you got in his car, and the small compliment warmed your heart significantly.
The party was smaller than your normal ones. The pogues were all there, and they were all happy to finally see you again. You greeted them kindly and took your seat beside JJ, wanting to make the night go by as quickly as possible. You had hardly even arrived and you were already anxious.
As the night went by, your anxiety only got worse. You began to zone out, not paying attention to the conversation. You snapped back to reality when the whole group laughed at some joke someone told, and you just chuckled nervously along, hoping nobody noticed you weren’t being attentive.
A few hours went by, slowly but surely, and you decided that you had to be done for the night. You had been on the brink of a panic attack for the last hour, and it was getting harder to fight it off.
“Alright, guys, I’m tired. I’m probably gonna head home. I’ll see y’all later.” You announced, standing up from your seat. Immediately, JJ stood up with you, leaning into your ear.
“Im too drunk to drive, babe. Do you think you can wait a little longer for me to sober up?”
You shook your head lightly, pushing him away. “No, it’s ok, babes. I’m just gonna walk. I don’t want to pull you away from the party anyways.”
A look of concern took over the blonde’s face. “I don’t like that. You can’t walk by yourself at night, it’s not safe.”
“I’ll be fine, J.” You assured him. “I live, like, a five minute walk away from here. We’re super close to my house. It’ll be okay.”
JJ continued to insist that you wait, but you insisted on leaving. You reassured him multiple times that you’d be alright, kissed him, grabbed your cardigan and left.
That’s how you ended up in your current position, sobbing into your cardigan sleeve as the night grew colder and colder. You were still walking along the road to your house.
You hadn’t realized how cold it was when you left. Maybe it’s because you;d been sitting up against JJ, his body heat mixing with yours to help keep the both of you warm. Now, you were all alone, with nothing but your thin cardigan to protect you from the chill of october night.
As you walked, and cried, you wondered what it would be like to just stop breathing.
Your thoughts were halted by the sound of footsteps pounding the pavement behind you. Immediately, you tensed up, suddenly scared. Who was running on the streets late at night, besides her? Who had a reason, other than kidnapping or killing someone?
You turned slowly around, and your body relaxed as you realized you recognized the person barreling towards you.
A familiar blonde boy was running in your direction, seemingly desperate to catch up with you. You stopped walking, giving him time to meet you.
“JJ?” You were talking as soon as he was close enough to hear. “What are you doing, babe? You’re supposed to be at the party.”
“I’m walking you home. I’ll go back once I know you’re safe.” He explained. He looked almost triumphant at the fact that he’d caught up with you, but his expression changed to one of concern after he got a good look at your face.
“Y/N… have you been crying?”
You shook your head, almost in instinct, but he saw right through you.
“Yes, you have. Baby, what’s wrong? Did one of us say something? What happened?”
As you looked in his eyes, those beautiful blue orbs as rocky and deep as the ocean, you felt your mask begin to slip.
“I’m not okay, J. I haven’t been for a long time.” Your voice cracked as you spoke, and the tears came almost immediately after you’d finished.
JJ took you into his arms and held you close, and for a moment, the two of you just stood there on the side of the road.
JJ let you sob for a little while, just holding you and murmuring sweet words to you. Eventually, he pulled away and looked directly into your eyes.
“I’m here for you, okay? We’ll get through this, my love. I don’t know exactly what’s going on yet, but we’ll figure it out. Together. I promise. I love you so much, Y/N. So fucking much.”
He pulled you back into his chest, and in that moment, it dawned on you.
This wasn’t the end. This pain wouldn’t last for evermore. It would pass, and JJ would be there with you when it did.
So, for the first time in a while, you finally felt okay.
Does your house have air conditioning throughout, or do you have one that sits in your window? We don’t have any air conditioning whatsoever lol. It’s only really needed for about a week a year here though, and I can’t justify the price. Do you pay your own cellphone bill, or do your parents pay it for you? My parents have never paid for my phone. Well, they gave pocket money as a kid and it had to cover all my phone costs. Would you ever consider working at Subway? Sure. There are much worse jobs out there, anyway. Have you ever called something bitchin’? I’m sure I have, but not seriously lol. What is the most ridiculous band name you’ve heard recently? I don’t really pay much attention to things like that.
Do you like indie music? Some of it, yeah. Have you seen the new Harry Potter film? I’ve seen all the released Harry Potter films including the two Fantastic Beasts films that are out. If so, what did you think of it? I didn’t like the last film, no. I think they just don’t work as well as the originals - they’re just a bit blah and I had no desire to keep watching them. Have you seen every Harry Potter movie in theatres? Yeah, my mum and I have been to see every single one of them together, lol. It’s been our tradition ever since the first one came out. Do you think the cinema is way overpriced as far as refreshments go? Yeah, of course. But I know it’s only that way because they make barely any money from the actual tickets. Or do you also think the tickets are too expensive? Tickets are dirt cheap here - it’s only £4.80 per person. Would you ever move to Canada? If I was going to move overseas at all, it would be to either Canada or Australia. What about Kansas? Nope. I have absolutely no desire to ever live in the US. Have you ever experienced a tornado? No, we don’t really get weather like that here. We DO get really minor tornados but they’re nothing at all like what you see in the US.
Do you notice a lot of survey makers jack questions from other surveys? Well I mean, there are only so many questions you can ask. Have you ever been pregnant? Yes. Have you ever been to jail? Nope. Do you think the world is going to end December 21, 2012? I was more afraid of the Millennium Bug. How do you think the world is going to end? We’ll destroy the planet and kill ourselves off, or reduce our population to such an extent that the planet can recover naturally. I suspect we’ll have more and more pandemics too.
Are you Jewish? Nope. Have you ever watched Borat? Once or twice. Did you think it was funny or were you offended by it? I thought it was funny the first time, but the second time I watched it, it just made me cringe. Would you ever drive a hearse for your car? I mean, if I had no other option, sure. What about an ice cream truck? No. Does your cellphone have good battery life? It does, but only because it’s a few months old. Have you ever seen Brokeback Mountain? I have! It was actually really good but I’ve never re-watched it lol. What did you think of that one particular scene, that everyone talks about? Ha, well, I can see why some people found it shocking. What snacks do you usually take to the beach with you? I just take water normally, and I’ll get fish and chips and ice-cream while I’m there. Do you know how to make grilled cheese? Of course. Do you like to put things such as ham on your grilled cheese? I like it with tomato. Do you like to eat tomato soup along with your grilled cheese? I’m not a huge fan of tomato soup.  Have you ever watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I’ve seen the first two or three series. Do you have thick or thin hair? Thin and flyaway. I hate it. If you have thick hair, do you get it thinned when you get it cut? ... If you have thin hair, do you wish it were thick? Definitely. It’s just SO frizzy and flyaway and hard to style. Would you ever get a fashion mullet? Hahah, aren’t they making a comeback in some places? Anyway, definitely not. Do you remember the Britney Spears and Madonna kiss a while back? Sure. What about the whole Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson incident at the Superbowl? Yeah. How old is this survey?! Ha. What kind of shoes do you normally purchase? Boots for dog walking, otherwise converse or ballet flats. Do you like those bright coloured skinny jeans? Not anymore, but I had quite a few pairs back when they were popular. Did you like Pokemon or Digimon when you were younger? Neither, really. I played Pokémon on GameBoy though. Do you still? No. Where do you buy your school supplies? I used to get them from WHSmith. Do you love writing in pen? Sure. Would you ever work at Hooters? No. Have you ever eaten there? It’s pretty good. I have. And you’re right, it’s really not bad. Do you sleep with your hair up or down? Up. When you go swimming, do you put your hair up or down? Down, otherwise it gets all knotty and tangled in the hair tie. Do you like what ocean water does to your hair? No, but I don’t put my head underwater i the sea anyway. What do you think of the Axe commercials? We don’t have those here.
hi so like
“i saw this and thought of you immediately”
if you want to for any ship HDHDHDHDHD
@over-under-through1 Okay, so, I gave ya greens last time, and you said ANY ship, so I decided to give my rare pair some love. And it’s just sweet pure brain rot. Anyway, as always, thanks for the prompt!!!
Prompt: “I saw this and thought of you immediately” from the prompt list of ways to say “I love you” without actually saying it 😊 that whole list makes me go soft. Pairing: brick/bubbles
Word count: 4696// this was supposed to be a drabble :)))))
Summary: I’ve got nothing witty to say. Bubbles just gives our boy a gift and he almost hemorrhages.
(Bubbles’ love language would totally be gift-giving based on how crafty she is, my love language is definitely NOT gift giving so I hope this isn’t horrible)
Brick licked chip crumbs from his fingers as he flipped through the tv. On the floor, next to the recliner he had deemed his for the afternoon, his journalism partner—one seemingly disgruntled Blossom Utonium—was busy organizing their project into five hundred million different tasks. She was dividing them evenly, and despite her warnings and threats, he had already resigned to do his two hundred and fifty million assigned mini-steps last minute like usual. It was the same song and dance they did for every project they were paired up for, which was incredibly often and, frankly, not by choice, though now, he supposed he'd be a bit insulted if she went and picked a new partner after everything they had been through together.
Investigative Journalism 302 was supposed to be another blowoff class he had decided to take solely for the credits. Still, when it became clear to the professor that Brick wasn't going to be taking their class seriously, they had gone out of their way to ruin his life and pair him with Blossom Utonium. Despite the good A-quality content they churned out, it had not been an easy go around the first few times they had been paired together. They were too similar and too different in all the worst ways. She was too type-A to his type-B, and they were both too stubborn to admit when they were wrong. But, him and Blossom both had a penchant for sticking their noses in places they shouldn't, so somewhere along the line—probably around the time they had broken into More Co. to follow a lead and diffused a hostage situation at the Mayor's Manor—they figured it was easier to be friends, not enemies.
They were chalking up to be Townsville's resident Sherlock and Watson, except they both fancied themselves Sherlock and the other Watson, but, eh, what relationship was perfect?
This time around, they were investigating some strange chemical. The only lead they had come from Blossom's own father. He had apparently said something "cryptic" over Sunday brunch that had launched Blossom into overdrive. Eavesdropping on one of her old man's telephone conversations, she had listened to him mutter about the letter X, failed mutations, a strict deadline, and an explosion that may or may not have been the same explosion at the 'abandon' smelting factory two weeks ago.
She took the information personally since it involved her father, but Brick had met the man before and didn't think there was an evil bone in his body. The lab he worked for, though, was an entirely different story. H.I. Mechanics was one hundred different kinds of shady.
Three days from now, Blossom had decided that he would need to have the, again, two hundred and fifty million preliminary tasks done before their big stakeout. She’d be lucky if he decided to do three of them, but he entertained her ramblings anyway because the longer he stuck around her place, the longer he got to bum her cable.
That had become their routine. Meet at Blossom's place, let her rant like an anal madwoman, ignore her in favor of the reality trash tv that he loved but could not afford at his own apartment, and then have whatever painstakingly thought-out plan Blossom had concocted backfire on them in the near distant future. The process was like clockwork.
"—and if we go in at that time, really, why would they refuse us entry? The records we're looking for should technically be public record, though they're no doubt redacted. We're going to have to—you're not listening to me, are you?"
"Yeah," he hummed, more focused on the reality tv season wrap-up reunion he was watching, then whatever she was talking about, "that sounds good."
"So, you're not." She snipped, and the tone of her voice caught his attention.
"Huh?" He glanced at her for a moment before looking back at the tv, "Not what?
"Listening to me." She gave him a cross look, stepping in front of the tv, "You're not listening to me.
"Whaaa?" He tried sounding offended as he attempted to shoo her out of the way, "Noooo, what gave you that impression?"
"Listen," she snapped her fingers in front of his face a few times, and he felt his face scrunch up in distaste—he wasn't a dog, "both of my sisters are going to be home soon, and I don't want them to get mixed up in all of this, so we need to drill out the details of this plan before they get home!"
Blossom lived with her sisters—Buttercup, and Bubbles—in a two-bedroom apartment close to the University in downtown Townsville. All three went to TownU, which wasn't too surprising to Brick. It was an incredibly good school, and he'd admit all three of them were smart, but still, three for three had to be a little weird, right? And to think, people accused him and his brothers of being joined at the hips.
He gave her a dry look as she walked back to her spot on the carpet. "We both know that's not how this works."
Blossom slammed the book she had opened shut, "You're impossible."
"I think you meant to say consistent." He spared her one last glance before settling back into the recliner, "Really, Bloss, how in the world do you think you'd be able to keep this one from them? At this point, my brothers just assume I'm at the center of the mayhem."
She tsked, but the lack of argument was deafening. After a moment, she sighed, and her shoulders dropped, "I just don't want them to get hurt. Not like last time."
"Don't know what you're so worried about." He drawled, "I recall them saving us, not the other way around."
"And I recall the scar that's now running up and down Butters' back." She shot back, "This time, there will be no mess-ups."
"Yeah, wanna bet on—"
"Home!" Buttercup's voice rang throughout the apartment as the front door was slammed open and shut, "How we feeling about take-out—Oh, sup, Brick. You good with Chinese tonight?"
"We're working on school stuff!" Blossom exclaimed, scrambling to cover up the more elicit details of their ‘homework.'
Buttercup rolled her eyes, placing a hand on her hip, "I can tell. What's it this time, huh? Something normal or is there a bomb threatening to reactivate the volcano in Townsville Central Park that I should be made aware of?"
"It's norm—"
"—mutants." He interrupted Blossom, "The man funding your dad's company is sups sketch."
Buttercup shifted on her feet and crossed her arms, "Does this have to do with that Chemical-X stuff dad was talking about?"
"Don't you have a shower you should be taking?" Blossom huffed, glaring at the both of them, "You just finished a run, I can tell; you smell like a pig."
"That's what tipped you off?" Buttercup snorted, "Not the copious amount of sweat dripping down my face? Hey," she nodded her head at them, "ask me how my run went."
Together, he and Blossom rolled their eyes and sighed, "How'd your run—"
"Really well, wow, thanks for asking!" Buttercup smiled, "I beat my average, sooo think hard about what where you want to order from for dinner tonight. We're celebrating! I already texted Bubs," Buttercup stuck her tongue out at them, "she was much more enthusiastic."
"Then celebrate with her," Blossom frowned from her spot on the floor, fingering the edges of her notebook, "we've got a lot to finish tonight. I don't think we'll have—"
"Yeah, yeah. Listen here, hero-girl," Buttercup scowled, hands back on her hips, "you still gotta eat. Ima take a shower, you have till then to put the spy shit away. Speaking of spy shit," her glare shifted to him, "your brother done fixing my car yet?"
"Ask him, babe." He sniffed, looking pointedly at the tv, "I ain't the middleman."
He suppressed the urge to bulk as Buttercup lifted him up off the recliner by the collar of his shirt. A dark smile snuck its way across her face as she leaned close into him, "Considering the fact that you owe me for getting it destroyed in the first place, baby, then I think you are."
"A lesson in forgiveness would do you well, but fine, I'll ask." He sneered back, unwillingly to show the dread that ran up his spine when he saw the look in her eyes, "You do realize, though, it'd be faster if you just called—"
"Nope!" She sang, dropping him back down in the seat, like nothing had just transpired between them, "If he wants my number, he has to ask for it!" She walked down the hall towards the bathroom, "I don't make the rules."
He scowled, watching her walk away before turning his head back to Blossom, "She's lucky I owe her."
"You're lucky," Buttercup called from down the hallway, "that I saved your sorry ass!"
Blossom snorted, and he shot her a dirty look, "Don't encourage her."
"Oh, be quiet," Blossom snickered, "just watch TV like you always do, and I'll put—"
"I'm home!" A high, singsong voice rang through the house, as the door was once again thrown open, and his heart palpitated without permission. He forced his eyes to focus on the tv, and if Blossom noticed how he sunk low into the recliner, she thankfully didn't say anything.
"In here!" Blossom called back, and from the corner of his eye, he watched as Bubbles stuck her head around the corner. Quickly, he turned his attention back to the tv and tried his best not to seem at all interested as she practically danced her way into the room. She was always practically dancing everywhere she went. It was annoying.
"Blossy, oh my god, you will not believe what—Brick!" She exclaimed, shoving a finger in his face when she noticed he was in the room, "Wai—Brick Jojo! Do not move from that spot!"
He blinked and looked around at the spot he had forged for himself in their living room. His bookbag, snack bags, disregarded textbooks, and his jacket littered the space around him, and his body had imprinted into the recliner's seat cushions, so when he looked back at Bubbles and gave her a dry look, he meant it when he said, "Yeah, wasn't planning on it."
He looked away quickly when she beamed at him. Her smile was bright, sweet, and dimply, and also very annoying. People couldn't always be so immovably happy, could they?
Bubbles giggled and did a little hoppy-dance before she calmed down and looked back at him, "Ahhh, okay!" She wagged a finger at him, "You stay! I've got a surpriiiisseee for you."
"Again," He huffed, ignoring all the less-than-innocent surprise scenarios his traitorous brain played through, "wasn't going anywhere."
"If you're not going anywhere, why don't you actually do some work while you wait." Blossom's voice bit through the air, but he ignored her, going back to flipping through the tv.
"Yeeepp," He popped, his tone no drier than hers, "wasn't planning on that either."
 Blossom mumbled to herself and looked at Bubbles, "Before you go, can you help me with these books? I'm putting them in my bedroom."
Bubbles held out her arms, moving around the recliner and out of his field of vision, "No prob-lamo, chica! What's this all for?"
"Don't worry about it." Blossom brushed Bubbles off, and her sister giggled again.
"What?" The blonde snorted, "Is there a bomb in the volcano?"
He could practically hear the way Blossom stiffened, "Why does everyone keep saying—do people think there's a bomb in the—"
"Blossom!" He groaned, "I'm fucking hungry, hurry up."
She hmphed and stomped out of the living room with Bubbles presumably following, so he relaxed in his seat, ready to blow out the deep breath he was holding when Bubbles' visage filled his vision.
Her smile crinkled the corners of her baby blue eyes, and the back of his neck instantly warmed at the proximity. He wasn't one for people invading his personal space, but Bubbles literally had no freaking concept of it. She was always shoving her face in his. So, unfortunately, Brick was very aware of the sun freckles that littered their way throughout her cheeks and it was particularly distressing because staring at her face made it easier to forget the No Touching Rule he was pretty adamant about people following.
"Stay." She reminded him; her tone tinged with lingering laughter. This close, she smelt like the physical embodiment of a bakery, and it took a significant amount of willpower to pull his eyes away from her.
"Whatever." He mumbled.
With another giggle—always with the dumb giggling—she was gone, and he was finally alone to collect himself. He pinched the bridge of his nose and muttered a string of particularly nasty curse words at himself. Objectively, he was well aware that Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were…attractive, but he was never actually supposed to be attracted to any of them. They were the girls. They were just the girls. Ever since he had known them, they had been just the girls.
Blossom had a stick up her ass.
Buttercup could probably disembowel him.
And Bubbles giggled and smiled.
And it didn't matter if she giggled and smiled at him. Because she giggled and smiled at everything. She was one of those people, the kind of person that gave someone their undivided attention in a room full of people. She was good at making people feel good about themselves. She didn’t do it just for him. No see, if he was attracted to Bubbles, which he wasn't, it was because she was very good at making all people feel seen. So, he wasn't special. He wasn't. And it just—she would…he wasn't used to people just automatically assuming the good in him. People so optimistic tended to avoid him.
The positive attention was just making his head spin, making things confusing, and that was it. He wasn't one of those sad, lonely guys who mistook niceness for flirting. He had a clear head on his shoulders. It was just attention he was unused to. And it was a kind of attention he didn't need. Bubbles was just a nuisance. Her personality was too sweet. They were so different. Even if he did actually end up somehow magically liking her, it wouldn't work between them in a million years.
Besides, everyone already knew that pretty social butterflies didn't actually go for anti-social dweebs. Real-life wasn't an overdramatic coming-of-age rom-com. Realistically, she probably went for guys like Boomer.
He let out a shaky breath and turned up the volume on the tv. Some housewife was crying about something laughably petty, but he couldn't find it in himself to smile.
A second later, he nearly jumped out of his skin when a pair of hands clasped together over his eyes. He only relaxed when he heard Bubbles voice nice and warm next to his ear. "Peak-a-boo," she laughed, "guess who!"
He ignored the way her breath tickled his neck and frowned into the darkness, "A heart attack?"
"Oof, so close!" She snorted, releasing her hands from his face and leaning around the recliner, so he could see her smiling at him, "It's Bubbles!"
"Hello, Bubbles." He droned, not resisting the way his eyes rolled but fighting the way his mouth was trying to twitch into a smile.
"Ready for your surpriiisse!" She sang, walking around the chair so she could stand in front of him with her hands clasped behind her back. He pressed his way further into the recliner after their knees knocked together, distancing himself from her.
"As ready as I'll ever be." He huffed, crossing his arms over his chest, "What is it?"
"It's a gift!" She rocked back and forth on the heels of her feet, still smiling.
"Okaayyy." He reached a hand out with grabby fingers, "Let's get this over with, give it here."
She tilted her head back and laughed, a real honest belly laugh, before she looked down at him again, and suddenly, he felt tiny under her gaze. "Oh, my goodness, Brick," She chided, "I'm not just gonna hand it to you! Close your eyes and hold out your hands!"
He adjusted the brim of his hat lower down his face and looked away, "I don't—"
"I said—" she repeated, reaching a hand out to pull his hat down completely over his eyes, "Close your eyes!"
"Fine." He hissed, trying to sound as grumpy as he was pretending to be and readjusted his hat as he shut his eyes, "They're closed. Happy?"
"Hold out your hands!"
He sighed but complied, and after a bit of shuffling on Bubbles' part, something small was placed in his hands.
"Okay," she announced, "now open your eyes!"
He opened his eyes and stared at the little…thing in his hands. He didn't know exactly what it was, but he figured it was some kind of fluffy…hat…keychain? He didn't know. He gave it a quizzical look before returning his stare to Bubbles.
"Ta-da!" she sang, accompanied by a pair of jazz hands, before she clapped them together, "Do you like it!"
"What…is it?"
There was a pause, and the smile on Bubbles's face fell away. "What is it!" She huffed, cheeks puffed out like an angry chipmunk, which was the worst angry face she could have because it just made her cuter, "It's a dog keychain!"
"This—" he held the keychain up for both of them to examine, "—is not a dog. It's a ball of fluff."
Bubbles' mouth dropped open, "It totally is! Look," she snatched it out of his hands, smooshing the fluff down so she could show off its' pointed ears, stubby little legs, and tail, "see! Puppy! A little Pomeranian! Baby puppy! Puppy, puppy, puppy!"
With something akin to bloodcurdling embarrassment pulsing through his veins, he watched as Bubbles continued to baby talk the offensive keychain, placing a tiny peck on its' small nose.
"And look!" She gushed, shoving it back into his face, "Look at its wittle red hat!" She squealed, bring it back to her so she could cuddle it to her face, "It's so cute I can't even!" Without warning, she dropped into his lap, which was around the same time his heart dropped into his stomach, "I saw it and thought of you immediately!"
He froze at the admission. He had never once thought of himself as someone who short-circuited very often, but people didn't compare him to a cute Pomeranian keychain very often either. In fact, he had been called a lot of things in his short lifespan—wiseass, smartass, punkass, there was a very consistent theme of derogatory titles thrown at him on the daily—but cute Pomeranian was not one of them. And, frankly, he couldn't say he was a fan.
"Are you comparing me to a Pomeranian?" He sneered, momentarily forgetting the fact that Bubbles Utonium was making herself comfortable on his lap, and he was neglecting to stop her.
"Duh!" She said rather flippantly, pushing the brim of his hat up and off his face, so they could look at each other. Another definite no-no that he was too flabbergasted to address.
"I would not be a Pomeranian!" He argued when he collected his jaw off the ground.
"Uhhh, yes, you would, lol." She argued back, playing with the fluffy little keychain in her hands. She kissed its face again, and in turn, his face only got hotter.
"Uhhhhhh," he mocked, "no, I wouldn't be."
She looked up from the keychain and gave him a somewhat patronizing look, "Yes, you would be."
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
She laughed, "Brick, yes! You're just like a Pomeranian! You're super intelligent, curious, feisty, you like being the center of attention," she looked off for a second in thought, waving a hand in the air as she talked, "and you've definitely got some tiny dog syndrome in you."
He blinked at her, gaping, as his brain worked overload to find something to dispute in that analysis, but when he couldn't find any, he spat at her, "Why do you know all this shit about Pomeranians, huh?"
"They're one of my favorite breeds!" Her face lit up, "They're just so cute! I love them! And you remind me of them, so I got this for you!" She held the keychain up again, "It's so cute!"
His mind ground to a sudden halt as the words' cute' and 'love' and 'you' repeatedly echoed in his head. His heart hammered away in his chest, and in his panic, he contemplated throwing her off his lap and burning the whole apartment complex to the ground. What was one more arson charge on his record, anyway?
"Bubs—stop saying…so what?" He asked, floundering before changing tactics. She wasn't the only one who could say embarrassing shit. "Does that mean you think I'm cute or something?" He flirted with a smirk, but it was only after the sentence left his mouth that he remembered Bubbles Utonium didn't get embarrassed. She smiled and giggled.
And that continued to ring turn even now, as she laughed, wrapping her arms around hia neck, she squeezed him. Only letting go of him slightly, to the bring the keychain up to his face, so she could bop the little dog’s nose and his nose together. "Of course!" She agreed, "Cute as a button!"
"N-no!" He sputtered.
"No," she pulled away from the crook of his neck, tilting her head in question, "what?"
"No," he sneered, "I'm not cute like a button."
She considered this for a second, tapping the keychain to her face, before shooting him a broad smile, "Handsome? Is that better?" Mirth tinkled in her big doe eyes, "You're our handsome boy?"
"That's worse!" He complained almost hysterically, running a frantic hand through his hair, knocking the hat he had somehow forgotten he had on from his head.
"Aw, Brick, come on," She rolled her eyes, catching the hat before it fell to the ground and plopping it on her head, "what do you want me to say then?"
"The truth never hurt," He spat as if he hadn't lied through his teeth at least three different times this week to three professors that he couldn't attend class because his beloved family pet 'Insert Name Here' had died.
Bubbles pouted, "But I told you the truth! I think you're handsome!" She held up the keychain, and with a horribly fake and cheesy deep voice, she used the gift as a puppet, "You're the most handsomest boy in the whole world!"
She solidified her point by making the keychain kiss his nose once more before pulling back to gape at him, "Wow, see even Mr. Puppy agrees with me!"
"Oh, right," he shook his head, in mock agreement, "a handsome boy with little dog syndrome, right?"
"Well," she shrugged, waving him off, "I never said you were charming."
His retort was caught off with a giggle, and she made the keychain kiss his nose once, then twice, and then his breath hitched as a third wet kiss was planted on his cheek by Bubbles herself. She pulled back with a coy smile.
"Brick…" she hummed, trailing off, and something about her tone made him swallow thickly.
"Y-yeah." He finally pushed out after a moment.
"Can I play with your hair?" She asked, leaning forward, laying her head on his shoulder as she twirled a lock of his hair around her finger, and he swore his soul left his body. No one, absolutely no one, touched his hair. No one wore his hat. No one sat on his lap. And here she was. And here he was. And he wasn't stopping her like he should have been.
"Uhh, umm, I—uhh—"
"Bubs, jeez!"
He jumped, choking on his own spit, as Buttercup marched into the room, her hair still dripping wet.
"Seriously, personal space, you're making him uncomfortable." Buttercup huffed, one hand on her hip as he gestured to his face, which was probably redder than his hat.
"Uncomfy!" Bubbles shot up, and a guilty look flashed across her face as she took in his face, "Ah, shoot, sorry, is this too much?" She took her arms away from his neck and wrung her hands together, for the first time blushing, "I just get too excited sometimes! I have a lotta love in my heart, ya know?" She finished with a bashful chuckle.
The small distance between them actually made it a little easier to think again, but she didn't need to know that. Embarrassed by the noticeable flush of his face and his reaction to Buttercup catching them, Brick shrugged and looked away, "You're fine."
That was apparently not good enough for Bubbles because she pleaded again, "I'm sorry!"
"I said," he hissed, wishing she'd drop it, "you're fine!"
"I'm still so sorry!" Looking back over, he was surprised to see her lower lip wobbling, "I shouldn't have forgotten!" She put her hands on her face, squishing her cheeks, as tears began to well in her eyes, and he sent a frantic look over towards Buttercup, "I know you're not a hugger, I should have asked and—"
"—Bubs, he said he was fine." Buttercup interjected again, "Now, you're just making him uncomfortable all over!"
Bubbles looked from Buttercup to him, back to Buttercup, and then finally to him once more. "You're fine?" She clarified, “This is okay?”
And all he could do was nod, "Yep."
Visibly relaxing, her eyes became less and less watery, and she shot him a relieved look.
"Sheesh." Buttercup mumbled and walked away, "zero to one hundred. Bloss!" She called out, "Come save your poor counterpart from the clutches of cuddly evil over here and let's order the food!"
"What!" Blossom called from her room down the hall.
With an exasperated huff on Buttercup’s part and something more frantic on his part, they both yelled out, "Food!" and there was a scoff from the bedrooms.
"No need to yell!" She shot back, "I'm coming!"
Buttercup shook her head before jabbing her thumb in the direction of their tiny kitchen and announced, "I'm getting the take-out menus."
Bubbles nodded and then, beamed when she noticed Blossom had walked into the room.
"Blossom! Look at this cute keychain I got for Brick!" She cooed, her eyes bright and excited again, which would have brought him some relief if she hadn't opened her big mouth and kept talking, "Doesn't it remind you of him? It's a Pomeranian!"
Face aflame once more, he snapped, "I'm not a Pomeranian!"
"Ho—ly shit!" Obnoxious laughter floated its way out of the kitchen that only made him grind his teeth, "He totally is!"
"It's the little dog syndrome." Blossom agreed, flipping her hair over her shoulder and ignoring the crude gesture he shot her way as she walked past him towards the kitchen, "BC, let's order from Lee's!"
"No way!" Buttercup argued, "Pa Changs!"
He turned back to Bubbles, who, despite it all, had yet to remove herself from his lap. He was about to make some remark about him pushing her off of his lap in the next three seconds, but the way her eyes flinted over his face made him pause. When she realized she had been caught staring, she smiled once more, bright and beaming, and his heart did another funny little dance.
"You like it, right?" She tilted her head, holding the keychain up so it dangled between them, "I…I can take it back if you want."
Her smile fell the slightest of fractions along with his heart.
"No!" His hand shot out, taking hold of the keychain, "It's—I like it, whatever." He sniffed and turned his head away, "So quit the kicked puppy shit, alright?"
Another smile. Another giggle. It felt like a sick joke, but Brick was pretty sure he was falling in love.
-----------------------------------------------
A/N: That’s right! It seems the only way I can write romance is with a shit ton of pining!!!! To love is to long, I guess. It’s a little awkward in some places, but it was for fun, so I decided to cut myself some slack and post it anyway! I hope you like it!!! The pairing doesn’t get a lot of love, but I think opposites attract dynamic is so so so cute.
Also, sorry this took me forever! First, I got distracted looking at cute dog pics and then halfway through writing the drabble I was like “hey what if I stuck Blossom in this and she and Brick solved mysteries??” So, then I lived with that AU floating around in my head rent-free, and now, finally, here we are. ANYWAY, in this AU, Blossom is in a very sapphic relationship with Princess, who, along with HIM, is the main antagonist. The Professor is the damsel in distress btws. Brick and Bubbles are disgusting cute. Boomer’s gay, who for tho?? Who knows! Not me! But he’s a freelancer, who’s hardcore freeloading off of Brick and Butch, and that’s all you really need to know. Buttercup has big Mom Friend vibes. Also, Butch is a mechanic and playfully flirts with Buttercup, which she thinks is funny until he actually starts really flirting with her, and then she’s like “um, sir, I am a maiden???” b/c she is actually both shy and a prude. (And you know I like my greens) Anyway, el oh el, it’s a good time.
Lucky Day
Tumblr media
Pairing: Yugyeom x Reader
Word Count: 2,119
Rating: (F) for fluff
Summary: Yugyeom used to wear his orange Chucks constantly, until he realized they’re the luckiest thing he owns. He was wearing them the day he met you, the first time he kissed you, the day you agreed to be his girlfriend. He saves them only for special occasions, and you notice he’s decided to wear them today on your date.
Part 7 of the GOT7 COLORS SERIES of oneshots! 🌈 Color: Orange
Tumblr media
The fair is in full swing when you arrive. The scent of dried soda, sweat, and cotton candy fills the air.
It's absurdly hot for late May, but your boyfriend looks delighted, even with a drop of sweat working its way down his face. You wipe it away with your thumb and down the rest of your lemonade in one big sip. His arm around your waist is hot, but you handle it, because you're the type of soft for him that you'll cope with even more heat on a sweaty day for him.
His hair is mussed from a day of carnival games, hot dogs, and riding roller coasters like little kids. You toss the cup in the trash can next to the line and look up at the ferris wheel. Compared to the rest of the adrenaline filled day, this feels subdued.
He grins at you over the tops of his shades and you can't help but give him an answering smile. In front of you the colors of the wheel pass by, slowly. A rainbow of reds and oranges and blues that match the candy-on-acid brightness of the carnival.
You thought this feeling would fade. Or maybe even dim slightly in the first few weeks of whirlwind romance after he bumped into you - or you bumped into him, neither of you can agree - and knocked over an entire display of blue corn tortilla chips at the store. But it's been two years since you stared down at him and pulled a bag of chips off his face. You both said, 'oh!' full of surprise and attraction, at the same time. And so it was fate.
'You're sure you're okay with this?' he asks.
The ferris wheel does look terrifying and high. The buckets swing in the motion and you swallow a nervous breath and grip the fabric at his hip tighter. 'Umm. Yeah. It will be fine,' you say, biting your lip to keep your nerves inside.
He snorts and uses his free hand to cup your face. 'Liar.' His thumb tugs your lip free from your teeth and he presses a messy, joyful kiss to your mouth.
You swat at his stomach and roll your eyes. 'Okay, fine. I'm going to freak out. But you'll hold me, right?'
The line starts moving and Yugyeom takes off his shades, hooking them on the collar of his shirt. He kisses you again, slower and lingering. This time he stays at your eye level. 'I'll always hold you.'
Your breath catches in your chest when he looks at you like that. Like he's talking about far more than just the moment. It's been happening more and more lately. Mentions of something more permanent than just being boyfriend and girlfriend.
Just last week he'd asked about what kind of style you like in furniture, just in case you guys wanted to get a house. 'You know, in the future,' he'd said with a casual raise of his shoulder.
'I know,' you answer. You kiss him back for a moment before realizing the line has now moved several feet ahead and you're almost at the front.
He hands the tickets to the fair worker at the booth and nods at him. The man, with curly brown hair and an enormously oversized orange tie, nods back and motions the two of you to the waiting open bucket. You tilt your head in confusion but it's lost in the sheer anxiety of climbing into the small, orange plastic contraption.
Yugyeom holds your hand as you slide in. When the two of you are finally balanced together, his arm around you and yours holding a death grip on his thigh. And if maybe you yelp in fear when it starts moving, he doesn't judge. Throughout tough times in your relationships he's always been the same - light and open and determined to be in this with you, even when things are hard or confusing. You’ve survived far more together than a day at the fair and your fear of heights.
'I've had such a good day,' he murmurs. You feel his lips moving in your hair as he rests his cheek against the top of your head.
You sigh, relaxing at the easy pace of the wheel. Maybe it won't be so bad after all. 'Me too,' you answer, giving his knee an affectionate squeeze.
'I've had such a good two years with you. Every day is amazing, you know?'
You pull back and look up at him. He's always sweet, but hardly is he ever so out and out romantic and soft. Even the lopsided grin on his face is more sentimental than normal.
'What's gotten into you today?' you tease, heart beating strongly in your chest.
'I've been thinking a lot, lately.'
'Oh yeah? About what?'
He stares out at the fair below you, and the forest at the edge of the fairgrounds. Now that the bucket is clearing the halfway point you can see far off into the distance. Warm, buttery sunlight plays with the colorful tents and in between the branches of the trees. With a sigh he turns away from the beautiful scenery and back to your face. He traces his fingers gently over your neck and cheek before brushing your hair behind your ear.
'You,' he says, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. 'Always you. And us.'
Touched, you lean up and press a kiss to his jaw. 'I love you, you big softy.'
He rolls his eyes and tugs you closer, kissing your forehead. 'I love you too. I think I might have loved you since the first time you knocked into me.'
You open your mouth to object and he kisses you again, all over your face until you snort and wave him off.
'Do you remember what I was wearing when we met?' he asks.
The ferris wheel reaches the top and instead of fear you feel nothing but awe. The view is incredible. You can even see all the way out to the lake on the far side of the freeway from here. His hand on top of yours and his arm around your waist makes you feel safe.
'Yeah, your lucky Chucks, right? The orange ones?'
'Exactly,' he says softly. He rubs your shoulder with his free hand and you lean your head back against him.
'And you remember the first time I kissed you?'
At this, you pull back and look at him, brow furrowing. 'Umm. Yes, I was there.' You laugh and gesture to the faint scar on his left wrist. 'I still feel badly about this.'
He runs a hand through his hair and chuckles. 'Hey, it was my fault for trying to lean over a canoe and kiss you, with my terrible balance.' He uses his thumb to rub the scar where he smashed into the side of the boat before going over the edge and pulling you with him.
'It was still a good kiss though. Very wet, but it was perfect.'
Your car smelled like lake water for weeks after. You didn't have any towels to put underneath your damp jeans. But you'll never forget how cute he looked, all soaked and a mess and bumping his head on the roof of your car as he emphatically started kissing you again in the backseat.
'It's all been wonderful,' he says, looking stupidly in love and handsome.
'Why are you talking like this? Are you planning on breaking up with me or something?' You're teasing, but the way he winces and nervously taps his fingers on the armrest gives you pause.
'No, God, no not at all. I -' he shakes his head in amusement. 'I swear I've never been more clumsy, tongue-tied, or a mess than I am when I'm with you.'
The bucket is still stopped at the top and you wonder how long it normally pauses. It didn't feel like that long at each stop on the ride up. Maybe there's a problem with someone getting off or something, you wonder.
Yugyeom swallows and looks over the edge. He gives a thumbs up over the edge before turning back to you. 'You know what all those days had in common?'
'What?' you ask cautiously, a frantic beat in your chest as your intuition tells you something big is about to happen.
He awkwardly lifts both of his feet, showing you his shoes. The faded orange of his Chucks peeks out over the edge and you gasp. Like a Mac truck what he's trying to say hits you. 'You're wearing them today. But - '
When you turn he's fumbling in his pocket. 'Please don't let me drop this,' he laughs to himself as he pulls out a small box.
There's a fierceness and a sincerity in his eyes that suddenly makes him look much older than he is. 'I know I never wear these anymore,' he starts. 'I think the heel is about to fall off. But I wanted to wear them one last time today, for luck.'
He opens the lid on the box and reveals a ring. 'Oh my god, no way!' You can't cope and look back and forth between him and the ring.
'I love you,' he says on an exhale. 'All my best memories are with you and I want to keep making memories. Forever.'
His words are fast, impassioned. Behind him you distantly notice shapes rising. Looking around his face your jaw drops. Dozens of orange balloons rise and tears come to your eyes. You have got to be holding his thigh so tightly it's cutting off circulation at this point, but he doesn't seem to mind.
'Yugyeom, I - '
'Will you marry me?'
He doesn't pressure you, he never has and you know he never will. Instead he shows you the kind of patience he only saves for your relationship. He goes after everything else like a bullet train - his career, exercising, working on his skills - but your relationship has always flowed smoother than a river. Easy and unquestioned.
'Of course I will.' You breathe in and cough, your throat thick. You don’t know when you started crying, but you can’t seem to stop.
Several things happen in a tangle of limbs and emotions. He tries to somehow kiss you, remove the ring from the box and slide it on your finger, and pull you into his arms all at once. You attempt to return the kiss, catch the box he drops, and not fall out of the swinging basket that’s still suspended above the fairgrounds.
But magically, like always, you muddle through together.
The ring fits perfectly and your heart melts imagining him carefully choosing it. You grasp the box firmly in your hand, saving it from falling on unsuspecting patrons. He wraps his arms around your waist around the metal bar and you hold his shoulders, burying your hand in his hair to keep him near you.
Even though it sways dangerously for a moment, the basket steadies.
With wet eyes and a bright joy coursing through your body you watch the sunset and the last of the balloons float off into the distance, vanishing from sight.
‘I’m so glad you said yes,’ he says against your neck. ‘I knew the lucky shoes wouldn’t let me down.’
You snort and pull back. ‘Have you ever thought that maybe it’s just you that’s lucky, not the shoes?’
His answer is drowned out by a familiar voice calling from down below. ‘ARE YOU GUYS ENGAGED YET?’
Yugyeom groans and you lean over him to try to see who it is. He waves and gives an emphatic thumbs up. The cheer that comes from the ground is far too loud to just be one person. With a slight jolt the ferris wheel starts moving again and you begin the descent back to the ground.
You went up as someone wildly in love with her boyfriend and you’re coming down as someone wildly in love with her fiance.
When you’re about halfway back you see what has to be your entire family and Yugyeom’s, plus the vast majority of your friends. He gives you a boyish smile before shrugging and assuming a confident lean on the back of the bucket. ‘I knew you’d say yes.’
‘Would have been pretty awkward if I hadn’t,’ you say and toy with the ring. ‘I could still change my mind, you know.’
He frowns for a moment before realizing you’re teasing. ‘Get over here,’ he says with a wide grin. He covers your face in kisses and the bucket settles gently back to ground as everyone rushes forward to give you hugs and congratulate you.
Derry 1988- Part One (Losers club x reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: This is inspired by the book ‘11/22/63’. The reader is an average girl from the year 2020 but accidentally travels into a parallel universe and finds herself in Derry 1988 where she meets the losers club, and tries to change their fate.
Warnings: Spoilers (IT, and IT: Chapter 2), Swearing, Violence (Bowers gang)
“DON’T LISTEN TO HIM GEORGIE!”
“STAN DON’T DO IT!”
“MOVE OUT OF THE WAY EDDIE!”
“......this can’t be the end”
**********
Summer boredom was just about killing 17 year old Y/n Y/l/n. She spent most of her days either on her phone or watching her favourite movies. Her most favourite movie however had to be ‘IT’, she didn’t know why exactly but it was something about the characters, how she wished she could be a part of that world, even if it was a horror movie, a tragic one after all.
She had just finished watching IT: CH2 for what felt like the 5th time since it came out. Her eyes red from crying at the death of not one, but two characters that she for some reason felt so close to.
Y/n closed her laptop as she got out of her bed and walked into the hallway. She had just moved into a new house with her aunt a few days prior. Her current room was just a bed and...well that was it. Her aunt had been raising her for as long as she could remember since her parents passed away in a car accident when she was just a baby.
Deciding it was time she explored the area, Y/n texted her aunt saying she’d be back by sunset and started to put her shoes on. She was wearing tight jeans matched with a cropped t-shirt as she made her way out the door.
Y/n then rode her bike around the small town of Windsville (made up), soon stopping at an ice cream store that was located in a plaza that consisted of no other stores; but instead a dentists office...how ironic. She got her favourite which was one scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough in a cup, because she hated the cone. As she sat down and looked out the window she noticed how old the buildings were and how much the area lacked of greenery. The last thing she wanted was to go from living in sunny California with all her friends to being in a dark sketchy town where she had yet to see anyone that looked under the age of 50; That was until she noticed she was quite obviously being watched by a boy around her age.
Y/n slightly turned her head to face the boy. He had curly dark brown hair that was almost black. It looked completely disheveled as if he had never brushed it in his life, and bright blue eyes. He was dressed in black jeans and a grey cardigan, underneath was a graphic t shirt that read ‘windsville library club’. As she caught him staring he gave her a warm smile, which she returned back although she still felt a bit creeped out.
He noticed her getting uncomfortable and decided to speak up “Hey I’m Cosmo. Sorry I didn’t mean to look weird it’s just that you seem new” He told her as he went to sit next her. She didn’t mind though as she was dying to meet someone interesting.
“New?” she asked.
“Yeah. Well I mean, this is a small town and I’ve lived her my whole life so I think I’d remember seeing someone my age. We are rare you know” He chuckled trying to break the ice.
“I noticed” She smiled. “I’m Y/n, I just moved here a couple of a days ago”.
“Really? I didn’t even know there were any houses for sale here” He stated in slight confusion.
“Oh, well I live on the corner house on Castlelane” She replied while finishing the last spoonful of her ice cream.
She then looked up to notice his eyes go wide as he suddenly froze up.
She knew this Cosmo kid sounded weird, but it was something about the way that he looked as if in fear from just the name of her street that gave her a feeling so eerie she couldn’t even seem to describe it.
“Is something wrong?” She asked enthralled by his reaction.
“I, I don’t think I should say anything” He stutterered as he suddenly got up and walked out of the store.
Okay. This is way too weird now Y/n thought to herself. She was definitely not the kind of person that would let someone leave her with all that confusion, so she decided to grab her bike and run after him.
“Wait! Cosmo!” she shouted as she caught up with him. “Okay now you HAVE to tell me what’s going on, please?” she begged.
“I don’t know I really shouldn-“
“PLEASEEE” she started to scream, catching the attention of an elderly couple walking down he sidewalk, they both gave the two teens dirty glares.
“Agh okay okay fine...just promise you won’t tell anyone I told you this?” he stopped in his tracks as he stuck out his pinky finger.
She chuckled a bit until she realized that he was completely serious, and then slowly wrapped her finger around his. “I promise”.
“Alright, now believe what you want but for as long as I’ve lived in this town it’s been a known fact that everyone in the house you’re living in right now...goes missing.”
Oh wow. Classic. As cool as it sounds Y/n knew there was no way her life could be interesting enough to sound like the plot of just about hundreds, if not thousands of horror and thriller movies. But at the same time they all did end the same way: owners of the house don’t take the rumours seriously, and then they go missing too. Y/n decided she rather bruise her ego than be a missing person.
“Let’s Say I believe this conspiracy-
“Not a conspiracy, it’s a fact” he interrupted.
“Okay..So let’s say I believe your fact. Why do you think that is? Ghosts? Demons?” She questioned him.
“Well, I don’t exactly know but nobody’s lived in that house for like 10 years, it’s gotta be cursed or something i’m telling you.” he tried to explain “it’s like..someone would move in, and by like a week they’d just be gone into thin air, but all their stuff would be the exact same”
“Hm..I mean if they all just coincidentally decided to move, why would they all leave their stuff behind?” She thought out loud.
“Exactly right? I’m telling you there’s some weird shit going on in that house, you better be careful” He told her.
She then felt a buzz in her pocket. She picked up her phone to see she had 2 missed calls from her aunt. It had been past sunset but Y/n didn’t seem to notice.
“Shit. I have to go...I’ll talk to you later?” She told him as she hopped onto her bike.
“I’ll be there” he called out as he pointed to the town library. Y/n gave him a thumbs up as she rode down the street.
***********
It was now about 3am as Y/n was tossing and turning around in her bed. After her conversation with Cosmo she couldn’t bring herself to sleep. She wasn’t one to get scared over things, especially not ghosts or demons. But it was something about the situation. People going missing, how it was completely unknown what happened to them that made her feel uneasy.
After about an hour of trying to sleep but failing miserably, Y/n decided to get out of bed again and get a glass of warm milk, something that helped her when she was younger and would get nightmares. She made her way down the stairs slowly as she noticed herself checking behind her and in every room, as if something was going to come and attack her any second. The fear had definitely gotten to her.
As she waited for her glass of milk to heat up in the microwave she jumped when she heard a huge crash in her basement, as if someone had fallen. Panicked, Y/n rushed down the basement stairs calling after what she assumed to be her injured aunt, but instead she found nobody at all. She then walked down the dark and empty room as she realized she was alone. Feeling goosebumps rush throughout her neck and arms Y/n quickly decided to walk back up the stairs.
As she went up the first step she suddenly heard a voice call her name from the end of the dark room, groaning in pain, the voice sounded like someone was injured very badly.
“Y/n.....y/n help me please hurry!”
“Aunt Jane?....A,Are you there?” she called as she walked down the room trying to see as much as she could in the pitch black. Suddenly she reached the end of the room and noticed a wooden door that was opened slightly. She opened the door and walked in to see a figure in crouched in the corner crying.
“Aunt Jane what happened are you okay?!” Y/n called out approaching the figure, however she was walking very slowly because in the back of her head Cosmo’s words kept repeating. She knew this could be a trap, but what if it really just was her aunt? It sounded like her. She couldn’t leave her alone if she was hurt, that’s just the kind of person Y/n was.
She slowly crouched down to the figure that had it’s back away from her as it was crying into the corner.
“Aunt-“ she spoke as she reached her arm out to the figure but was interrupted as it quickly turned around revealing the face of not her aunt, but rather a terrifying clown, one that seemed all too familiar.
Before she could say the name of who/what she knew was in front of her, everything went black.
**********
After the darkness came a shining bright light under the eyelids of Y/n. She was almost sure she had to be dead, that this must be heaven and she was brutally murdered and left to die in a room she didn’t even know existed. That was until she opened her eyes.
She was no longer on the cold black ground of the mystery room, but instead she found herself laying on a field, a beautiful one as a matter of fact. Y/n looked around and noticed the bright blue sky and shining sun. Confusion had hit her as she knew that there was know way Windsville could have an area so full of life, but she was still trying to put two and two together on how she ended up there until she looked down. Instead of her pyjama shorts and tank top she now had on overall shorts, and a lilac tshirt underneath, an outfit she would never think to wear considering how out of date it is.
Y/n decided this had to be a dream. There was no way she went from her basement floor being attacked by what she thought to be Pennywise, to going through a wardrobe change and ending up in the middle of a bright green field of grass. But it all felt too real. She pinched the skin on top of her hand over and over again.
“Wake up wake up wake up” She whispered to herself repeatedly expecting to be back in her own bed.
“Hey! who is that?”
“Where? I don’t see anyone”
“Over there dumbass, it’s a girl!”
...Turns out Y/n wasn’t dreaming after all.
--------------
The moment he walked into the hospital that day as the clock striked the sixth hour, he knew that he was in for a long one. Pressure in his skull was beginning to irritate the living light out of him, causing his vision to be blurred around the edges. By the time he managed to dig through a couple of his responsibilities, he had already taken painkillers twice, and it didn’t seem like it would be the last time.
Claire’s path crossed his around noon, and the second her eyes landed on him, she knew something was not right. Their gazes met for a split second, just long enough for him to notice her nodding slightly, a secret signal they came up with to let the other know that they wanted to talk in his office.
His body fell into his office chair with a heavy thud, standing out against the muffled sounds of the life of the hospital on the other side of the door, the never-ending string of words, the endless series of signals. He vaguely noticed the soft sound of door opening and closing, the gentle steps that led to his desk.
Her cool fingers touched his temples, massaging his skin with tender touch, wordlessly giving him what he needed to survive the day. An action so simple that many could dismiss it as unnecessary but welcomed by him with a low hum.
“Did you drink water?” her voice remained nothing more than a whisper, answered only by something awfully close to a whine. “Do you want some tea? Cause I assume you already took painkillers.”
Gathering what was left of his energy, he muttered how much he loved her, how she was a saint. As soundlessly as she could, she placed the mug on his desk and bent down, kissing the top of his head, her breath warm against his skin.
“Actually, I’m your wife. But ‘saint’ works too I guess.”
------------
Claire’s fingers tightened around the steering wheel, knuckles turning white as she bit her lip to remain absolutely silent. She had to be, she couldn’t so much as say a loud word, but in her head, she was screaming, using just about every profanity she knew, in any language she knew. Ethan was sleeping in the seat next to hers, and she was in the dead center of the worst traffic she has seen in a while. All because some idiot clearly found his driver’s license in a bag of chips and didn’t know the basic rules. They were supposed to be home thirty minutes ago, but instead here they were, and from the way things were at the moment, they would be home in an hour at best.
In her peripheral vision she saw Ethan stirring in his sleep, and once she turned her head to look at him, she noticed how his face twisted at what he saw in his sleep. Her hand found its way to his cheek, careful and mindful of its movement, while her other hand kept the car’s trajectory stable. Sensing her presence near him calmed him down, stilled his movement and he seemed to fall back into the deeper sleep.
They were almost out of traffic when he woke up, confused about where he was or what was happening. She grinned briefly, amused by his behavior almost as much as worried. Tapping her fingers impatiently against the smooth material of the steering wheel, she leaned sideways to see how many more cars they had ahead of them before they could finally get home. Her action caught Ethan’s attention, sparking his interest as he finally began dissecting the situation around them.
“How long have we been in this traffic?”
“Almost two hours now. At first, I thought that it would go quickly, two cars crashed against one another, nothing too serious. But people are dumb, and there were two more crashes as people driving by the first accident didn’t pay attention and caused another one.” she recalled the last two hours of her life, shaking her head in frustration. “It’s good you woke up when you did.”
“Why?”
“Cause I’ve been keeping quiet for so long that if I have to bite it down one more time to keep myself from opening the window and screaming at some asshole to start using their brain if they have one, I’ll lose it.” All on one breath, the words rushed past her lips, leaving her tired and struggling to catch any oxygen for a short moment. He placed his hand on her shoulder, squeezing lightly. His thumb traced the line of the column of her neck in an attempt to calm her down.
“Thank you for letting me sleep. I don’t know what’s going on, it should pass soon.” He spoke slowly, keeping his eyes trained on her, allowing him to see her cheeks lift slightly when she smiled. “I mean it. Thank you for taking care of me.”
She glanced at him briefly, her eyes sparkling with affection, running deep within her. He burst out laughing when, as soon as she looked back at the situation on the road ahead of them, she slammed her fist against the steering wheel, cursing.
------------
“Ethan?” her voice broke through the thick mist of the tangle of his thoughts. He looked up from his spot on the couch, expecting to see her ready for bed, but instead was met with a sight of his wife in her bathrobe. She crossed the room, crouching next to his head, her fingers brushing the stray lock of his hair away from his face. “Come with me.”
“I’d say ‘anywhere’, but if you want to drag me to bed to watch some movie, that will be a ‘no’ for me, Darling.” He muttered, a slyly grinning at her. A sound of air leaving her lungs was loud in the otherwise quiet room. Her hand took his, pulling him up from the couch gently, wrapping her arm around him and guiding him to the bathroom.
The bathtub was filled with hot water, the lights turned off, the room illuminated with a few candles. Ethan turned around, just in time to see Claire let the bathrobe fall to the ground, revealing her naked body underneath. She came closer to him, helping him take his clothes off, and then hugged herself to him, a silent moment of perfect comfort. He inhaled her scent, taking a deep breath, letting the feeling of her next to him calm his senses and relax his muscles.
Without saying a word, they got into the bathtub, sinking into the hot water with a breathless sigh. She sat behind him, his back to her front, her hands washing his body gently. Snaking her arms around his chest, she pulled him back against her, lying down together. Neither knew how long they remained that way, the closeness far too comfortable to leave it behind. After what seemed like eternity, he turned around in her arms, lying down with his head on her chest, holding her as close to him as he possibly could.
She raised her hand out of the water, away from his side, and began running her fingers through his hair, massaging his scalp. He nuzzled into her even more, like he was afraid to let her get even an inch away from him, as though the thought of her leaving was unbearable to him.
“I really love you.” he muttered under his breath, pressing his lips to the skin of her neck and letting them stay there, breathing deeply.
“I know you do. I love you too.” She hugged him closer, her grip on him stronger, to show him she was there. To express to him that she wasn’t going anywhere. There wasn’t a single thing that could take her away from him. “Are you okay?”
The only answer she got was a nod, barely palpable, and another kiss, much softer, a barely-there touch that sent sparks throughout her body.
They remained submerged in the water until it ran cold, and even then, they didn’t want to move. It was Claire’s decision to move them to bed, to avoid getting sick. She stood up, getting two towels from the shelf, passing one to his extended hand. He wrapped the soft material around her body, drying her tenderly, paying attention to every curve of her body that he loved. She returned the gesture, standing on the tips of her toes to reach his head, patting his face dry, then moving down his chest, and then finally draping the towel over his shoulders, the same way he did for her.
He helped her get into her nightgown and she helped him into his nightwear. The silence spoke volumes, their actions screamed the amount of love they had for each other, and once they finally fell into bed together and got under the covers, their minds were halfway gone, just barely registering what was happening around them. Ethan pulled her closer to him, pressing his lips to her forehead in a warm kiss, smiling the same way she did.
Hi love! I was wondering if I could request something from you? How would the guys act if MC was getting really broody and wanting a baby? Like they keep watching mothers with kids pass by when they're out and always point out cute baby stuff when they shop?
Hi! This is such a cute request🥺🥺🥺 hope you enjoy!
MLQC crew react to MC with baby-fever
~~~~~~~~
Victor
It was the holidays and he took to some hellaaa luxury mall to shop for some relatives and friends.
“Aww, Victor! Look!”
You pointed towards a flashy window display, strewn with ribbons and wreaths and glittering ornaments in the shape of baby bottles and rattles. It was showcasing a new line of holiday baby onesies.
But ya boi had absolutely no clue what you meant by showing him this.
You on the other hand, were grinning from ear to ear, quietly admiring the assortment of baby clothes and trinkets.
it honestly suprised Victor to see you gushing over such a trivial display, but he didn’t press the topic any further.
Rolling his eyes to the sky, he motioned for you to walk on but couldn’t help noticing the small glances you shot back at the store long afterwards.
He may have had a slighttttt idea what might have been going on but his lips were SHUT.
There was a second incident; one that sent his suspicions to the mf sun
He was walking out of a meeting with Goldman to where you had been waiting, chatting with his secretary who’d recently returned from her maternity leave.
He overheard parts of the conversation: “it must’ve been so exciting to find out!” “What did your husband say?” “How did you prepare?”
You were so into the conversation, you hardly noticed Victor until he snaked an arm around your waist and cleared his throat.
“Excuse us— MC, are you ready to leave?”
You looked a little sad to tear away from the conversation, wishing the secretary one last, heartfelt ‘good-luck’ before following him to the car,
On the way home, you would NOT shut up about pregnancy and babies until Victor finally intervened with what he’d been meaning to say all along!
Heart in his throat and sweaty hands gripping the steering wheel as tightly as possible, he finally popped the question:
“MC...are you...by any chance...pregnant?”
that was most definitely not how he had planned to address his suspicions but oh well
But god...you were frozen silent.
The tension in the air only fueled his anxiousness even more, so BEFORE JUMPING TO ANY CONCLUSIONS, he elaborated
“All this talk about babies and all—if you really are pregnant then you haven’t done a very good job at hiding it...”
The silence continued for a little longer until broken by a small string of laughter.
Your laughter.
“Pbfft...Victor! Is that why you’ve been nervous this entire time??”
okay so now it was his turn to be speechless
You laughed a little more at his speechlessness before reaching over and patting his shoulder. “And no, I’m not pregnant—if that makes you feel any better. Baby fever in the air, I guess...”
The car ride fell silent but you hummed before continuing. “But now that you’ve brought it up... what do you think?”
He was still at a loss of words, so you frowned and turned towards the window to avoid his gaze. You decided to stop testing him until he muttered something nearly inaudible, but still had you starry-eyed.
“Idiot. If you’ve been making it this obvious, why not bring it up sooner?”
(lil bonus: for Christmas, your gift to Victor was a positive pregnancy test)
Lucien
For his day off, he took you on a small excursion to a nearby meadow for a picnic.
But you two weren’t the only couple with that idea, because not far from where you had set you and his’ blanket, a family of three was enjoying their own picnic.
Between the mother and father was the cutest little baby you’d ever seen.
The distance and placid winds all but silenced the joy nearly radiating from the trio, drawing out a familiar longing weighing heavy in your heart the past few weeks.
And you could already see it: you and Lucien, in this exact same meadow, soaking up the sunshine with a little one of your own by your side...
Someone tapped your shoulder, immediately pulling you away from your daydreams, to hand you muffin.
Lucien flashed an easy smile when you blinked yourself back to reality, nudging the pastry close to your lips. “What were you thinking so hard about?”
Your eyes darted between the muffin and Lucien before shying away in embarrassment.
“Nothing...”
You busied yourself with the muffin, but peered over at Lucien who’d seemed to have already seen through your weak lie, shooting the family several curious looks.
Throughout the picnic, although you might’ve not noticed, Lucien watched attentively as you shot longing glances towards the family—smiling and giggling whenever the baby gurgled or came into view.
It wasn’t long until twilight began to creep over the horizon, replacing the bright hues of a once sunny-sky.
The family was long gone, but you and Lucien remained; head resting on his lap as you exchanged small sips from each other’s wine.
A warm breeze drifted overhead as you shifted in his embrace, preparing to speak what’d been on your mind for the past month.
“Lucien...I think you...”
He hummed. “You think I what?”
There was a brief pause, but you finally let it out.
“...I think you’d be a great... father.”
He chuckled and began fondling your bangs. “Do you now?”
“Mhm! You know... I’ve been thinking about it lately and—”
“...You want a baby.”
He hadn’t phrased it as a question, rather, stated it as though he’s known along. His grin widened when you turned back to gaze up at him, eyes nearly bulging.
Oh?
He tipped his head back and laughed before ruffling your hair. “I believe ‘baby-fever’ is the common moniker for that. Didn’t think I’d notice?”
You sunk deeper in his embrace, in attempt to conceal the flush in your cheeks before sensing a kiss on the top your head. His arms tightened ever so slightly around you, before speaking again.
“You don’t think I noticed how many looks you were giving that family earlier? Or how that every time we go out together, a silly girl wounds up in the infants section...”
That only fueled the raging embarrassment painted across your face. Perhaps you weren’t as...discreet as you hoped, but now that Lucien had noticed....
“So...what do you think...?”
You bit back a smile, heart in your throat now that the discussion of your little secret was out in the open.
Lucien responded by pressing a warm hand against your womb—firm yet gentle as another breeze drifted by. The touch was enough confirmation; as though all this time, he’d also given it deep consideration.
Lucien’s voice sounded right by your ear, dipping to a low murmur that caused the blush in your cheeks to increase tenfold.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Kiro
You CA N N OT tell me he didn’t get baby fever FIRST.
But the minute you began giving strangers w/ kids weird looks and mindlessly going through the baby section, HE FIGURED YALL WERE ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH
He’s nearly screeching when you finally express what’d been weighting on ur mind for weeks.
It was after a concert of his, during a VIP meet-and-greet, where one of his fans had brought her baby along to greet the star.
The crowd of fans backstage erupted into a commotion of awwws which did absolutely NOTHING to help with your baby-fever.
Kiro’s eyes widened as the fan lifted out her baby towards him, drawing the bundle of joy close to his chest. “And who’s this cutie pie?”
The fan exchanged pleasantries with Kiro for a little while, snapping a few pictures with the baby, herself, and the three of them together.
You could hardly tear your eyes away from the scene, feeling your heart well up with some sort of longing for a baby of your own; and god Kiro looked amazing with a baby...
so...
“Kiro! Let’s have a baby!”
The two of you had just been lounging together on his couch, tuckered out after the concert and looking forward to spending the rest of the night in each other’s company.
You barely registered the look of shock in his face when you uttered those five words before he had you pinned beneath him on the couch, hand clasped over your mouth and eyes sparkling with wonder.
“Say that again!”
this dork you gestured to the hand covering your mouth before he pulled away with a sheepish smile.
His sudden actions stole the breath from your lungs, so you focused on catching your breath before peering up at him; eyes glassy and cheeks colored a pretty pink as a slow smile spread over your lips before reiterating.
“I said let’s. Have. A. Baby!”
—and that’s all he needed to hear.
He scooped you into his arms as quickly as he had pinned you down, hugging tighter than he ever had. His breaths were close to your ear and between each one, you could make out quiet praises and ‘thank gods’.
this man was going to choke you to death if he didn’t let go but you wholeheartedly appreciated his reaction and laughed aloud before trying your hardest to hug him back.
Kiro made a mess of your face, kissing every inch before you had to physically crane him off of you.
“I just told you I want to be pregnant—not that I am pregnant, weirdo!”
He gasped out a laugh and tweaked your nose before diving back to hug you again. “You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting, Miss Chips!”
The embrace was slower, gentler than the last, and the two of you stayed on the couch, arms around each other for what seemed like forever before he spoke up again.
“So...when do you want to start trying?”
Gavin (thought it’d be fun if I switched it up a bit ;))
He figured it was another one of your weird PMS symptoms.
You’d coo at the little kids by the poolside whenever y’all headed over to the beach for some quality time together, waving whenever one of them made eye contact with you and then proceed to go on and on about how adorable they were.
Sometimes he’d accompany you while you ran some errands, only to follow you into the infants section of stores and watch you point out all the adorable knick-knacks you’d discover on the shelves.
“Gavin! Look at this one? Ooh WAIT—this one is even cuter!”
“Now, if I ever had a kid, I’d definitely get this...”
And it just went on like that, as though you were trying to send the message all along and his oblivious ass had JUST understood.
and heck... it was rubbing off of him too...
One night of ‘messing around in each other’s pants’ quickly beckoned the question that Gavin asked to your surprise.
He peeked up from between your breasts, fingers between your legs slowing down, to your displeasure, as his lips inched close to your ear.
“Are you on the pill?”
Through your moans, you managed to gasp out a weak ‘no’, thinking he’d reach for his wallet and pull out a condom—instead, he pressed a quick kiss to your lips and returned to his previous ministrations before flashing that smile of his.
“Good. Let’s see what happens.”
Your face flushed instantly as you tried to push him away for context on whatever THAT meant, but he just pulled you back into his arms.
“W-what are you talking about!?”
He only shrugged as though the two of you were discussing your next meal plans.
“You’ve been going on and on about little kids right? I figured it was time to start trying.”
ah shit. he wasn’t wrong. but you hadn’t expected to discuss it with him like this.
“Wait! Gavin! You wouldn’t mind??”
He offered one last shrug before planting himself tongue-first onto your breasts.
“Not at all—some experimenting wouldn’t hurt, right?”

Tumblr media
Jaehyun checks the time on his phone. Eleven twenty-four.
He can’t help but use the remainder of his energy to sigh. Exhausted is an understatement as to how tired he felt. All day he had been working on an assignment one of his professors dumped on his class last minute. And as much as he loves going to university, it’s one of those days where he feels particularly low and ambushed by the universe.
He grudgingly gets himself prepared for bed, dragging his feet along the carpet floor. With another helpless sigh he picks up his toothbrush but immediately halt his slow movements when he hears your distinct ringtone blast from his phone. Jaehyun’s ears perk in attention. He wonders why you were ringing so late in the evening, did something happen? Were you hurt? Where the fuck where you?
His mind urges him to answer quick causing him to drop the toothbrush in the bathroom sink. He couldn’t care about his dirty toothbrush right now. He’s too busy worrying what happened to you.
“Hello?”
“Hey…” you answer hesitantly.
“You okay? What’s up?” he asks in concern.
“Yeah, I’m just-- a little…”
Even without finishing your sentence, he knows exactly how you feel. He is never wrong when it came to his gut instincts. Jaehyun knows that you’re craving  for company tonight but your boyfriend isn’t there to provide it.
“Do you want to go out for a drive?” he interrupts you.
“Hold up-” your voice immediately picking up in tone. “You got your driver's licence and you didn’t tell me!?”
He shyly chuckles. “I’ve been meaning to today, but this bitch of an assignment didn’t let me.”
You laugh loudly on the other side, “I’d love to go on a midnight drive with you Jae.”
He shouldn’t feel butterflies in his stomach when he hears you say that yet he does. His heart is swelling with a good type of emotion for the first time that day. “Get ready, I’ll be at your place in ten.”
“Okay.. See you in a bit.” you say, hanging up the phone.
Jaehyun exhales the breath he didn’t realise is holding. He completely scraps his night routine out the window and proceeds to get dressed for your spontaneous adventure. It would be his first time taking a friend out for a drive since passing the test but since it’s you, it makes a whole difference.
Quickly grabbing his wallet from the top drawer, he quickly makes his way to the car. The winter months were soon approaching with the light winds that blew through his jacket. Being it already past eleven, he takes notice of the amount of cars out. Only a couple every few seconds, unlike during the early hours of the day where they would be bumper to bumper. Once he’s inside the car he connected his phone to the car and blasted some new tunes from Lauv for the short drive to your house.
It’s quite obvious that Jaehyun had only recently got his driver’s license, though he practiced a lot, he’s still unfamiliar with some of the functions the car had. Nonetheless he arrives at your house without a problem. He reaches for his phone by the clutch and calls you. Within three rings, he hears your, “hello?”, his heart rate racing immediately.
“I’m here dummy. Right in front.” he says.
He sees you peek from the living room window to check if he were really there. He chuckles on the mic causing you to laugh lightly.
“Had to make sure, you’ve fooled me too many times Jung.” you reply, strolling to your front door closing it once you’ve stepped outside.
Jaehyun hangs up the phone and watches you walk towards the passenger side of the car. You naturally smile at your friend at the driver’s seat, you couldn’t help but make a comment about how he looked like a grown-up.
“Wow, you really did pass. Congrats friend!”
“Is that all I get? A congrats? No, I’ll treat you to a meal since you’re driving?” he teases.
“Alright fine, since you are driving, I’ll buy us food this once. Where are we going?” you ask curiously.
“Hmm… I’m feeling a little hungry and all I can think of is Mcdonalds at this time. Their chips man, you know how much I love those greasy potato sticks.”
“Oh! Now that you mention it, I’d love to have them too. Go! Go! Go!” you pointed towards the road with a childlike smile.
He couldn’t help it but smile with you. After all the work he’s done for his assignment, you were definitely his happy pill. The highlight of his day- no doubt. You notice the songs he has on in the car and take his phone to play some music that you thought were more suitable for your spontaneous adventure. Though you loved Lauv too, his songs didn’t seem to fit well with the atmosphere at that moment.
“Sure go ahead, take my phone, change the music. It’s not like it’s my car.” he rolled his eyes while he smiles at you.
“Oh shut up, you know I have good taste in music. I love Lauv but listen, there are songs perfect for night drives.” you explain to your friend.
He ponders for a while at your reply, after only a couple of seconds, he begins to nod his head in agreement. “You’re right. But make sure you include that one song of his that’s always good to listen to at night.”
“I know exactly which one, Paris in the Rain?”
“I didn’t even need to give you hints.” he laughs out loud.
“I’ve lost count how many times you’ve said you want to have that song playing in your car while you drive at night. You specifically said night.” emphasising the word to remind him that you know him a little too well.
Jaehyun merely chuckles at your reaction. Any time he’s with you, he becomes soft. His tough exterior is broken down with your presence and he knows exactly why. You have no idea you have his heart in your hands. How could you though? Having a boyfriend erases thoughts that your best friend even has feelings for you.
You both talk about your day like usual, never getting tired of hearing what normal and boring things you did. Jaehyun talks about his frightening driving instructor for his test as well as that last minute assignment his lecturer gave his class a few days ago. You on the other hand couldn’t help but rant about the few small things that bothered you throughout the day, like people walking too slow on the sidewalk or when you notice that people chew with their mouth open.
Jaehyun couldn’t help but laugh loudly at your description of a couple of strangers eating their food at a restaurant you work at. While you on the other hand couldn’t resist laughing along with him. His dimples popped out with his smile and your automatic reaction was to poke it. That caught him off guard causing him to stop but he chuckles instead.
Pulling up to the drive-thru of the Mcdonald’s you googled earlier, he asks you what you’d like to eat.
“Bro, you already know I want nuggets and chips with a whole lot of barbecue sauce.”
“How many nuggets do you want?”
“Maybe… 20?”
“Jeeez 20? Are you sure you can finish that?” he pretends to be surprised.
You hit him on the shoulder, “bitch just get me my nuggets and we won’t have a problem.”
A pleasant chuckle resonates from his mouth and shakes his head accordingly.
Jaehyun orders the food and when its time to pay he looks at you expectantly.
“Oh right, I said I’d treat.” you grin sheepishly.
“Ye-huh,” he nods and takes your debit card from you and handing it to the staff over the window.
You both wait for your food in the following window which comes rather quite quickly and thank the lady as Jaehyun drove off somewhere undetermined. You’re distracted by the food to take notice of where he was driving to, but it didn’t matter because you trusted that he would choose a location you both loved.
There was a viewpoint on top of a hill by the motorway that allowed cars to park and look at the night skyline. It was one of the many places you both talked about driving to years ago and now that one of you finally got their drivers licence, what else is there that could stop you?
As you munch on your third nugget and chips, you look up when he says that you’ve arrived. Your jaw dropped. The nugget you were holding also dropped to the floor of his car and your eyes widened in awe.
“Jae..”
“If I asked you where we should go, you wouldn’t have known so I figured why not here.”
“Damn, this is beautiful.”
Jaehyun was tempted to tell you that you were more beautiful but his heart held him back. You couldn’t peel your eyes away from the view and he couldn’t take his eyes off you. Looking at you and his heart swelling with emotion, it was almost too unbearable. He can’t hold you close. He can’t kiss your forehead and tell you just how much he felt for you.
You turn to him abruptly, making him look at the bags of food he ordered.
“Are we gonna be able to finish all this?” he asks, inspecting each bag.
“Of course we are. If we don’t I can take it home. My boyfriend is getting off work soon and he’s always complaining that he’s hungry after.”
“Right, that’s fine.” in his monotone voice.
You’re unaware of the change in tone but you distract him by shoving a nugget in front of his face, urging him to eat.
His dimple makes another appearance when he smiles and takes the piece from you. You grab his phone once more and play another song that fits the setting.
The night goes on with endless conversations and eventually empty paper bags, once filled with warm treats. You yawn as you look out at the city lights and Jaehyun doesn’t fail to notice your eyelids falling closed slowly.
“Do you want to head back?” he suggests.
“I think that’ll be the best. It’s already-- what? Fuck it’s already four am. I should really head back now. My boyfriend must be wondering where the heck I am.”
“Sure thing. Seatbelt.” he reminds you.
You buckle your seatbelt and he starts the car.
The drive back was quiet and fast. Jaehyun glances at your sleeping figure next to him, fighting the urge to reach out and caress your cheek.
If only he wasn’t driving you back to the apartment you shared with your boyfriend.
If only he can take you back to his house and hold you to sleep.
If only he can kiss you goodnight and wake up next to you.
If only he was able to tell you how much he loves you.

Sleepover at Camp Jupiter
Read the whole collection here
Reyna's place was quiet. Aurum and Argentum laid in front of the couch curled up together. While their owner sat on the couch reading The Great Gatsby while her girlfriend sat on her lap. A pastel blanket laid over them. It was an addition from Drew. Since her and Reyna began dating Drew would add or recommend things to make Reyna's place more homey.
They've been together for a little over a year now. Drew graduated  from high school a week ago and will be attending UC Berkeley to study psychology and art. Reyna noticed how great Drew is at helping people believe in themselves and suggested she do something with that. And Drew ran with that idea deciding to become an art therapist, though she isn't sure if she wants to specialize in child psychology and development yet.
Drew pointed at a line of text. "Remember this, Reyna."
"Why? It's just a billboard?"
Drew turned to look at her girlfriend. "It's important if it was written in here. And it's a symbol of something mortals can't see. The eyes are judgmental like Hera."
Reyna nodded. "Juno isn't all that bad. What do you mean it's a symbol of something mortals can't see?"
"It's kind of like love. You can't physically see it. You can see it in things but you can't see it in things."
"Unless you've met Venus."
"Hmm. I guess so. But speaking of Venus she's a god. We can't see her true form just like mortals can't see the person in the billboard."
"So the billboard is a god judging American's."
"Capital 'g', Reyna. Fitzgerald is probably talking about the Christian god."
"And this Christian god doesn't like what Americans are doing."
"Yes that's what many readers believe."
"Does everything in this book have dual meanings?"
"No. I've found that only things that show up throughout or are highly detailed compared to others are symbols. Like if a detail is emphasized."
"So is the car a symbol?"
"Not sure. I know the billboard is because a teacher told me it was. Let's continue reading."
Reyna nodded and looked back at the book.
They continued reading occasionally pausing for discussion. Drew was the one who began these reading sessions. Reyna loved reading. It was how she grasped a better understanding of English. She has a high reading level despite reading mostly comic books. Because of this Drew decided to introduce Reyna to some classics and had created at least a page long list of literature she added to every few weeks.
They started with names Reyna knew like Plato and Homer. They read The Allegory of the Cave and pieces of The Odyssey where Reyna told her Circe no longer turns men into pigs but animals occasionally less smelly and easier to manage, Guinea pigs. She Also told her that Percy made a very cute Guinea pig. Drew wished Reyna had the opportunity to take a picture.
A knock on the door interrupted their quiet weekend. Reyna's dogs ears perked up and their ruby eyes turned towards the door watching to see if the person behind the door was a threat.
A key slipped into the lock and Reyna groaned. "I should have never given her a key."
"Who?"
"Your sister."
"Pretend we didn't notice?"
"Of course."
They returned to their book as the door opened. College aged Piper, Jason, Leo, Percy, and Annabeth walked in carrying bags for an impromptu sleepover (even though Percy and Annabeth live in New Rome and see Reyna nearly every day) with Nico.
"Why does Nick always describe Gatsby that way?"
"Cuz he's gay."
"Isn't the author straight?"
"Was anyone straight in the roaring 20's? When swing music existed and women wore more revealing clothing, smoked in public, cut their hair, and everyone lived in excess?"
Piper coughed.
Reyna looked up at her friends (except Leo he was still on thin ice). Percy looked like he just rolled out of bed sporting a five o' clock shadow while his girlfriend looked like she had been up for hours. Piper was as gorgeous as always wearing skinny jeans, a loose shirt, light sweater and vans. Jason looked like Annabeth, but he had done a better job at brushing his hair (his straight hair is easier to manage than Annabeth's curls), and much to Reyna's annoyance, Jason still had the rivet in his hair from the bullet Percy's brother fired at him. Jason had kept his hair trimmed like that for two years now. Reyna, Piper, Drew, and Nico were tempted to shave his hair while he slept. Nico wore the jacket Will gave him on their first Christmas together, and his mirrored sunglasses hung from the pocket. He had gotten a haircut. The sides of his hair did not touch his ears, but the top that he left long would in a few weeks. Leo looked exactly the same as he did two years ago with scorch marks on his fingers and arms and small bandages one a few of his fingers.
"Hey, what's up?"
"I wanna say that they made me come."
Reyna smiled at her little brother.
"Oh come on Nico. It's not like we had to force you." Jason said putting his arm around the fifteen year old who now reached his eyes.
"Friday night sleepover." Piper said. "We always have them."
"One, no we don't. It's more like twice a month. Two shouldn't most of you be at some college party? Three it's Wednesday."
"So we're a little early." She answered sitting on the only empty spot on the couch.
"Percy and I did all our homework that's due tomorrow early." Annabeth added taking a seat at Piper's feet with Percy close behind. She petted Aurum behind the ear muttering something about them being a good dog.
Nico sat on the other side of Reyna's dogs while Jason and Leo sat in front of him. Well, Leo sat closer to Percy than Nico. Reyna's dogs weren't his biggest fans and had no problems making it obvious to him.
"What piece of literature do you have Reyna reading this time, Drew?" Jason asked, adjusting his glasses like they would help him see the page better.
"Gatsby. We're almost done with this page. Do you mind being quiet for a few more minutes." Drew didn't wait for an answer; she turned all her attention to the small book.
Leo struggled to stay quiet. He kept opening his mouth to say something then quickly close it. He distracted himself the best he could by planning out the most fun night ever. First some of the greatest movies ever paired with the best snacks and drinks. Did Reyna even have the best snacks?
Leo didn't stay on that thought long. As soon as he heard the book close he spoke. "Okay! What movie does everyone want to watch." He dug through his bag. "I've got 50 First Dates, The Nanny Diaries, Love Actually-"
"Leo, I love you. But I don't think anyone wants to watch romcoms."
"What do you have in mind, Pipes?"
"Horror, action, thriller."
"Horror sounds fun." Nico stated.
"As long as no one throws their popcorn on me I'm good." Drew added.
"Reyna, got any horror movies?"
"The Sixth Sense, maybe Friday the 13th."
After a bit of arguing they settled on The Sixth Sense. The boys minus Nico prepared snacks. Nico and Annabeth made the hardwood floor more comfortable by adding a quilt Reyna had buried in a closet and laying out the blankets everyone brought.
Snacks were finished and everyone ended up with their own container. Nico with popcorn and chocolate chips, Jason with popcorn and m&m's, Annabeth with popcorn and butter fingers, Percy with blue m&m's, Piper with sour gummy bears, and Reyna and Drew sharing Jelly Beans and sour straws. Drew had made Piper make sure Aurum and Argentum had a plate with a few dog treats and marshmallows, and Nico had tossed a blanket over them.
As the movie played Leo Jason Percy and occasionally Annabeth yelled at the characters on screen. Piper occasionally stated behind the scenes facts.
During a particularly tense moment, Piper, realizing her hands were cold, poked her sister's foot that was barely out of the blanket making her yelp and Piper roar with laughter.
"Gods-damn it Piper!"
Piper waited a few minutes then did it again. Then a third time.
"Piper." Reyna warned.
"Alright, alright." She scooted closer to the arm of the couch and waited.
She looked over at Reyna and Drew. Drew was watching the movie one hand on the bowl of candy and the other on Reyna's, but Reyna on the other hand was watching Piper. She shook her head slowly with a slight glare. Drew, feeling Reyna move, looked up at Reyna then at Piper mimicking the Puerto Rican's glare.
Piper glared back then looked away pretending to barf. They were almost disgustingly cute.
A few minutes later she scared Drew again this time receiving a harsh kick.
"Ow! What was that for?" Piper yelped, rubbing her arm.
"I didn't kick you that hard."
"You totally did, Reyna."
Not even Reyna kicking her was enough to stop her. She tried one more time to scare Drew. This time she was unsuccessful.
"Hermanito." Reyna said.
And suddenly Piper was freezing then she found herself on the floor. She looked at the couch where she was once sitting and found Nico curled up with the darkness partially swirling around him. Actually, the dark in the entire room seemed to be moving as if Nico was making the room appear as dark as it did when she was afraid of it.
Piper settled in her new spot petting the nearest dog.
It was towards the end of the second movie when Drew tried scaring Piper. It worked only once. Piper nearly jumped out of her seat surprising Jason and Percy who were way more afraid of the movie than they let on.
Beginning of the third movie was when Reyna began to mess with Piper. She used a bit of magic she picked up from Circe and tried to make it feel like a spider was walking on her. It worked for a few moments then Piper figured it out and began ignoring the sensation.
Reyna switched tactics. She poked Aurum with her foot who pressed their cold nose into Piper's side hitting her ticklish spot.
Piper pressed her palm against the dog's nose and turned it's head away. "I know that was you, Reyna."
"I don't control their every move."
"Oh please. They would do whatever you asked."
Reyna opened her mouth to respond when Drew silenced her. "Ssshhhh. We're at the good part."
Reyna kissed her head and returned to watching the comedy. The older boys insisted on one happy movie to negate the scary before bed.
By the time the movie watching session ended Reyna was sitting between her girlfriend and her best friend/little brother. And both of them were nearly asleep on her shoulders.
"Nico, it's time for bed."
Nico nodded, sitting up and gathering his blanket. A second later he disappeared into the shadows and probably into Reyna's guest room / home office.
"Nico gone?"
"Sí, Amor. It's time for bed." Reyna told her standing up. She offered Drew her hand.
Her girlfriend shook her head. "Too tired. Carry me?"
Reyna smiled while rolling her eyes. "Alright." She picked up Drew with ease (something that made Jason and especially Percy jealous) and walked to her room. Aurum and Argentum followed, nudging the door open as they got closer.
Reyna set Drew down carefully. It wasn't the right moment to drop her on the bed. They were both too tired for the game that would begin if she did.
Reyna moved to the door and locked it.
"What kind of pajamas do you want today?" She asked, grabbing her own.
"I'm good."
Reyna turned around and saw her gorgeous girlfriend sitting on her bed shirtless. Today had been a stay at home no bra necessary day. Reyna looked down briefly and felt her cheeks grow warm. She put her pajamas away and joined Drew on the bed.
Drew kissed Reyna tugging on the edges of her shirt. “You don’t need this.”
Reyna let her pull her band tee (courtesy of Thalia) over her head. “What do you want to do?”
Drew ignored her and tugged at her shorts. “You don’t need these.”
Reyna slipped them off and tossed them aside. “What do you want to do?”
Drew rested against Reyna. “I’m too tired to want to do anything, but I’m too awake to sleep.”
Reyna turned off the lamp and rested her hand on Drew’s stomach. The pair laid down, and Reyna kissed Drew’s shoulder. “Thank you, for reading with me today.”
“No problem, Amore. I love reading. Especially with you.”
“What would you like to do tomorrow?”
“Walk on the beach?”
“Alright.” Reyna kissed Drew’s shoulder once more. “Want to go swimming?”
“Sounds nice.” Drew said quietly. “Hey, why did Annabeth say she and Percy had finished their homework early? Isn’t it summer?”
“It is. Annabeth convinced Percy to take a few summer classes so their schedule can be lighter during the year and they can graduate a bit early.”
“What is Percy studying again?”
“He started with Marine biology, but he realized it was going to be a lot of science. I think he’s doing physical therapy now and keeping Marine Biology as a minor.”
“Physical therapy?”
“Yeah. Annabeth showed him a video of a pool being used as part of someone’s therapy. He’s been interested ever since. That and he can heal using water.”
“I guess pool is not a bad thing to smell like.”
"Neither is the beach."
"Think we can leave everyone else out?"
"Maybe every one but Nico and Will."
"Will isn't here."
"For now. Nico will probably go get him to avoid being a third wheel."
"Double dates are fun."
"Glad you think so."
Reyna kissed Drew's shoulder blade and pulled her closer. She breathed in her scent noticing Drew's perfume and sweat. Reyna settled down more and closed her eyes and fell asleep.
As soon as Drew trusted Reyna wouldn't wake up at the slightest movement she changed positions to face her gorgeous girlfriend. She also moved Reyna's arm so she wouldn't be laying on it. Reyna often let her sleep on her arm only to later wake up because the limb had become painfully asleep. Then she settled down draping an arm across Reyna's ribs. Her fingers traced an old injury. She didn't know the story behind the scar but trusted one day Reyna would tell her.
She spent the next few minutes trying to relax enough to fall asleep. She loved snuggling with her girlfriend, but said girl was always a furnace. Don't get her wrong, she felt incredibly lucky to have someone as amazing as Reyna. She would have never expected to be this happy a year ago, and yet here she was laying with the hottest girl ever.
She adjusted the blanket so her feet would stick out and settled back down.
She was nearly asleep when a whimper startled her awake. She lifted her head and spotted the source. Two sets of glowing ruby eyes were watching her. "Come on." She whispered.
Given permission the two fully grown greyhounds jumped on the queen bed. The siblings spun around a several times (accidently hitting each other a few times) and plopped down laying on the teens' feet.
The cold metal was too cold for comfort; Drew pulled her feet out from under the dog and instead lowered the blanket uncovering her shoulders. Drew relaxed once more and fell asleep.

Staycation (jhs)
Tumblr media
Summary: Your boyfriend spent weeks planning a romantic getaway to take with you while he was on break, but the weather had other plans. Leave it to Hoseok to plan an even more romantic evening to make it up to you.
Pairing: Jung Hoseok x Reader
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 1.7k
Warnings: nudity, consumption of alcohol
----------------------------------------
Attention Passengers. Flight 219 to Nassau, Bahamas has been canceled due to inclimate weather circumstances. Please contact the airline for re-bookings or refunds. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Great. After waiting at the airport for almost 16 hours, two flight delays due to the heavy rain, and not getting a blink of sleep, your flight was canceled. Your boyfriend finally got a break from touring and had planned a lavish vacation for the two of you to spend some time together, but typhoon season seemed to ruin your plans.
The look on Hoseok’s face was pure and utter frustration. His lips tightened into a straight line and he let out a harsh sigh. You knew how much he was looking to finally getting away with you and how much effort he put into planning the perfect trip. He quickly pulled out his phone and started aggressively typing, you assumed he was sending the airline an email or something.
“So what now? There is no way we're getting out of here today and I think I might die if I have to spend another 20 minutes in this airport,” you felt disgusting from being there for so long. It seemed like you hadn’t showered in days and your ass was numb from the uncomfortable airport chairs.
He looked over at you with his brows furrowed, deep in thought. His expression quickly changed and he stood up, “Give me one minute I have to make a call, I’ll be right back.” You nodded at him and turned back to your magazine. You bought it one of the kiosks when you got here and probably read every article inside at least 3 times. It caught your eye when you were walking to your gate, on the cover it read “BTS ON HIATUS?” in large red letters and you just had to know what the tabloids were saying about your boyfriend and the other members this time. Hoseok was kind of embarrassed when the cashier was ringing you out, doing a double-take when she noticed the man standing in front of her was on the cover of the magazine you handed to her.
Before you could even flip to the next page Hoseok was back and rushing you to gather your belongings to leave. You had no idea where you were going and what his plans were, and as much as you begged him to tell you he was not budging.
After you retrieved your luggage, Hoseok led you outside to a black SUV that was waiting for you. How had he managed to get a car service here so quickly? It was one of the perks of dating an idol I guess.
The driver stepped out wearing a black suit and opened the back door for the two of you. Hoseok waited for you to get in while he leaned in closer to the driver whispering something. The driver gave him a quick nod and took your luggage to put in the trunk as Hoseok slipped into the seat next to you.
“So Hobi, where are we going?”
“I can’t tell you, it will ruin the surprise,” he gave you a small smirk, the corners of his mouth lifting upwards and he wiggled his eyebrows.
“Hobi, you have to tell me. You can't just tell me to get in the car and not say where we're going that like, kidnapping.”
He chuckled and slipped his hand into yours, “I promise, you’ll like it.”
-
The car ride to your destination was mostly silent. It felt comfortable though, he kept his hand placed on your thigh gently caressing you throughout the entire ride. You were eager to find out where Hoseok was taking you and he seemed antsy to get to the destination. The both of you were lost in your own thoughts when you let out a hushed chuckle.
“What?” He gave you a confused look.
“If our flight got delayed one more time wouldn’t it be like,” you really couldn’t help yourself from bursting into a fit of laughter before finishing the sentence, “Airplane part 3?”
“That was the worst attempt at a joke I’ve ever heard,” He said, still laughing along with you anyway. “And that says a lot seeing that I live with Kim Seokjin.”
“Come on your laughing it couldn’t have been that bad,” you gently hit his shoulder.
“Oh no, it was pretty bad.” He shook his head at you, he was more amused that you found your own joke funny. Blame the sleep deprivation causing you borderline delirium.
As if it was on cue, the driver stopped the car and announced that you had arrived. You looked out the window and immediately recognized where you were.
“Your big surprise is your apartment building?” You met your boyfriend’s smug grin with a confused stare. This was definitely not what you were expecting. Whatever this surprise was, you had a feeling that Hoseok had something good in store.
-
The elevator ride up to Hoseok’s apartment seemed longer than usual. He was urgently typing something on his phone not saying much since he got out of the car and it was making you nervous. The elevator made a loud ‘ding’ and Hoseok finally looked up. He took your hand and smiled, leading you to his place.
“I’m sorry if it’s not perfect, you know I didn’t have a lot of time to plan this.” Hoseok was a jittering mess and he placed his key in the lock and swung open the door. He let you take a step into the apartment first and followed you closely behind.
The corridor leading to his living room was lined with rose petals and small tea lights. It was the corniest, most romantic thing you had ever seen. But it was perfect, and you hadn’t even seen the entire place yet. You turned your head around and gave him a quick smile before turning back and walking further into the penthouse.
The living room was stocked up with extra pillows and blankets and there was a campfire playing on the large flat-screen TV. Soothing music came from the surround sound speakers and the room looked cozier than you had ever seen it. Your eyes lit up as you did a 180 and saw all your favorite snacks placed on the kitchen counter. The dining table was set for two, covered with a white silk table cloth and sprinkled with more rose petals and small candles down the center.
“How did you manage to do this on such short notice?” You beamed, turning around to see his expression. He met you with a smile that was just as big as yours and his gaze was full of love.
“I figured since we weren’t able to get away and have a proper vacation, we could have a staycation instead,” he wrapped an arm around your waist and gave you a gentle kiss on your lips. You were in shock from how he was able to pull all of this off from the time you found out your flight was canceled until now. Not to mention how he came up with this idea all on his own. He truly was the perfect boyfriend.
“Why don’t you grab a snack, I’ll only be a minute.” Hoseok pressed his lips to your forehead before stepping away to his bedroom. You sat down at the kitchen island and admired all of your options. There was a wide array of candy, chips, and even a chocolate-covered basket of fruit. He really went all out for this ‘staycation’ of yours. You grabbed a piece of fruit and opened a bag of pretzels to munch on while you were waiting for your boyfriend to finish doing god knows what.
“Baby!” Hoseok called from somewhere in his bedroom you assumed, “Can you come here?”
You stood up wiping the small crumbs off of your lap and made your way over to search for him. You walked into the bedroom saw a giant heart, shaped from long stem roses resting over the plush white comforter of his king-size bed. There were more rose petals leading through the master suite into the bathroom. It was like a cliche romance movie, and you loved every second of it.
You continued walking through the master suite following the rose petals to finally find your boyfriend.
“Hi beautiful,” he flashed you a toothy smile, “I figured you’d want to wash up after sitting in the airport for so long.”
Hoseok sat in his giant bathtub filled to the brim with bubbles, the subtle smell of vanilla filling the room. You really did not know how it could get much better than this. After quickly stripping off your dirty clothes you climbed into the bathtub with your boyfriend. He poured you each a glass of champagne and held his up to make a toast.
“To our staycation, it’s no Caribbean getaway, but I’m always in paradise when I’m with you.” He clinked his glass with yours and you couldn’t help yourself from chuckling at his cheesy toast.
“Thank you for doing this Hobi, I really can’t believe you managed to pull all of this off in an hour. You’re amazing, I love you.” You leaned in to give him a quick peck but he caught the back of your neck and deepened the kiss. His lips were so soft and moved slowly against yours.
After pulling away he turned you around so your back was pressed to his chest, sitting between his legs. He rubbed the bubbles over your shoulders and placed soft kisses to your neck. This was truly better than any vacation you could have gone on.
The rose petals, the candles, the warm bubble bath, and the feeling of your boyfriend's smooth chest against your back set the tone for a lust-filled night. You could hardly wait for what was in store after your romantic bath. His gentle touches and tender lips were clouding your thoughts with desire. You felt his firm member pressed to your lower back and you expected that he was thinking the same.
“What do you say we dry off and take this somewhere else,” He whispered in your ear.
“Make sure to move the roses from the bed, I don’t want to get poked.”
