♡ Summary: Being a father is the greatest gift Namjoon could ever ask for from Y/N. This Christmas it has turned out to be the hardest one for the family.

♡ Author’s Note: This is the sequel to Baby Daddy! Also I worked all day on Christmas Eve and on Christmas I spent it with my family. It’s been busy for me!!
Namjoon knew the day was coming but he didn’t realize it was coming this fast. They spoke about his military leave twice in the past year. Once, in the beginning and the second, in the middle. Both times Y/N was crying and Namjoon dropped the topic. He hated seeing his wife cry. He couldn’t bear the realization on Su-jin’s face that daddy wasn’t coming home at the end of the day and it hurt more that Y/N had to face it alone.
He wanted to celebrate Christmas early so at least he can see Su-jin’s second Christmas before he leaves. It was December tenth and Namjoon made their living room filled with Christmas decorations the night before. Their tree was filled with ornaments that had glitter falling down onto their carpet and the lights flashed different colors that made Su-jin hypnotized. Of course Namjoon made sure the tree had mountains of presents underneath with cartoon paper hiding what was inside.
Y/N watched Su-jin open another gift and she sighed. She leaned towards Namjoon who was sitting next to her with a wide grin, “Joon, don’t you think this is overdoing it?”
He shook his head and kissed Y/N’s cheek, “No, I wish I could’ve done more.”
She let out a small laugh and shook her head, “Babe, how much more could you have done?”
“Trust me, I had plans.”
“I don’t doubt that.”
Su-jin started letting out her giggles when she started playing with her new microphone. Y/N glanced at her and smiled. Namjoon bent down and grabbed a small box that was hidden behind the tree, “Baby, I got you something.”
She looked back at Namjoon with a surprised look and then at the tiny box, “Joonie, I told you-”
“This is special please.”
She took the box and let out a laugh, “You always had to have it your way.”
“You’ll like it.”
She opened the box and her eyes widened. It was a ring that had all of their birthstones and engraved in the ring it said, MY FOREVER. She placed the ring next to her wedding bands with excitement, “Namjoon, this is so beautiful.”
Namjoon placed his hand on top of hers and glanced at the ring, “I just wanted you to know...no matter what. You guys are my forever. Even if I’m far away, I’m always thinking of you guys.”
“Joon, I don’t need a ring for that. I already know.”
“I just wanted you to have something...”
She smiles and leans forward, placing a quick peck on his lips, “I love it and I love you.”
“I love you more.”
Later that night, Y/N put Su-jin down and it was just the couple. They were in the living room cuddling up watching a random drama with Christmas lights flashing in semi darkness. Namjoon’s fingers carefully went through her hair as she played with his fingers, it was pure bliss.
“Neh, Namjoon...Do you remember when we met?”
“Of course I do....”
Another long night and Namjoon felt like shit. All day he was messing up in practice and while no one got mad at him, he was mad at himself. He kept trying but nothing was working. It was frustrating because even Jin picked up the choreography.
“Namjoon, let’s get some coffee. You need it.”
Namjoon looked up from the floor and gave him a sad smile, “Sure...maybe they have a drink that can make me dance better.”
Yoongi scoffed at this and rolled his eyes, “Shut up, let’s go.”
They walked down the street to the only cafe open that late. There was soft jazz music playing and the sound of soft talks echoed in the room. whispers that held comfort under the dim lighting. They ordered their usual and waited at a table towards the back. Yoongi was on his phone and Namjoon was just staring outside into the night. He wished he could be better at dancing. He was their leader but he couldn’t help them with the formation, what kind of leader is he?
“You look like you're thinking hard.”
A soft voice blended in with the jazz music but it was loud enough for him to hear. He turned his head to see a girl around his age looking at him with a soft smile. The way her eyes looked at him made him feel like he was by a fireplace on a cold day. It was comforting and nice, “Yeah...thinking.”
She placed the cups down on the table and turned her head slightly towards him, “Are you alright? Thinking too hard just causes problems and no one likes problems.”
“Problems can be the solutions we need.”
“Or the headaches we don’t want.”
Yoongi snickered at this and took a sip of his coffee as he watched the two go back and forth. Y/N heard her name at the counter and sighed, “I have to go but my advice is...don’t be too hard on yourself. We have one life, why be so mean to ourselves.”
Namjoon watched her walk away and he couldn’t tear his eyes away from her. There was something about her and he wanted to figure it out.
She let out a small laugh at the memory, “You were so nervous, it was cute.”
He rolled his eyes at this and changed the channel, “I wasn’t nervous. I was just...overwhelmed...”
“That’s what you said when you asked me out, remember?”
“Jimin, I don’t think this is going to work.”
Jimin rolled his eyes and handed Namjoon the flowers, “Y/N’s favorite flowers are daisies.”
Hoseok nodded his head and opened the cafe door for him, “Stop being nervous and ask her out before someone else does. Like that guy from the other cafe.”
“I’m not nervous...I’m overwhelmed.”
“Yeah, whatever. Just go.”
Namjoon entered the cafe and saw Y/N watering the plants. He heard Jungkook’s voice playing and he smiled. Y/N told him that she would always support him because she believed that he would become big. She was always there believing in her.
She looked up and waved at him, “Hey! I didn’t know you were coming.”
“Sorry...ummm....these are for you.”
She glanced down to see him handing her daisies. She smiled softly and took them out of his hands. She brought the daisies to her nose and inhaled the scent, “You shouldn’t have...I love them Namjoon. Thank you.”
He felt his face get hot but a surge of confidence flew through him, “Y/N you would go on date me?”
“Namjoon, are you okay?”
He knew she was teasing him and she sighed. He looked away with his red face to avoid her mischievous eyes, “Would you go on a date with me?
“Of course I would.”
“It’s not funny, Y/N.”
“I think it is.” She reached for the remote and shut off the t.v, “We should head to bed. You want to take Su-jin to the park tomorrow, remember.”
He smiles at his daughter's name and nods his head, “Yeah, I wanted her to play with Jungkook while we walk through the park together.”
“That sounds lovely.”
The couple shut off everything in the living room and headed towards their bedroom. They both laid in their respective spots and she stared at him with a frown. He raised his eyebrow at this and turned towards her, “Is everything okay, Y/N?”
“I’m just going to miss you...”
“Well maybe Santa will bring me to you.”
She rolled her eyes and moved closer to him until she felt his body heat, “The only thing I want from Santa is our family together.”
“Baby...” He kissed the top of her head as he wrapped his arms around her waist, “It’s going to be okay.”
She let out a snicker as she snuggled into his chest, “Been an angel all year, Santa baby...”
He snorted at this and pinched her sides, making her wiggle, “Shush you...”
“Just promise me you’ll write to me.”
“Of course I will, babe.”
She looked up and kissed the side of his neck, “I can’t believe Taehyung is shaving his head.”
“I know, he looks like a prince with his hair. It’s going to be wild to see him without it.”
“I always said you looked like a professor that had all the girls drooling during class.”
He smirked at this and he tightened his grip, “Is that so?”
“Very much so...now that you shaved your head...I don’t know you got hotter to me.”
“Really? Su-jin misses my hair.”
She snickers at this and nodded her head, “She does, she was so confused when you didn’t have it but I think you look handsome.”
“And I think you look beautiful. Let’s sleep.”
“Fine, what time are we leaving?”
“Around eleven.”
She kissed his chest and closed her eyes, “Good night my love.”
“Good night.”

The couple pushed Su-jin towards Jungkook and she waved at him, “Good morning, Kook.”
Jungkook smiled at her and gave her a tight hug, “Noona, I heard you had a surprise.”
She raised her eyebrow at this, “And who told you this?”
“Yoongi...”
She rolled his eyes, “It’s not a surprise...It’s more I baked you a cake for all your solo activities.”
Namjoon took Su-jin out of the stroller and pouted, “You didn’t make me a cake for my solo...”
“This is why I told Yoongi not to tell you. I knew you would blurt it out.”
“Sorry noona.”
She let out a chuckle and ruffled Jungkook’s hair, “It’s fine. Namjoon, I gave you a baby. That’s bette than cake.”
“Nothing in this world can compare to my Su-Jin. Want to play with Uncle Kook, Su-jin?”
Su-jin made grabby motions towards Jungkook and he happily took her. He kissed all over her face and Y/N smiled at the scene before her, “You can play on the playground. Just be careful, she’s been more curious these days.”
“I will noona. Have fun on your walk.”
Namjoon intertwined their fingers together and they walked. It was winter but today it wasn’t as cold. It was the perfect temperature. They walked closely together in silence as nature became their theme song. Namjoon glanced down at her and smiled, “What do you think about having another baby?”
She glanced up at him and gave him a surprise look, “Another baby? I would love to have another one but you're leaving soon...”
“When I come back?”
She let out a small laugh, “Maybe Santa can make that come true.”
“Santa's probably tired of us asking him for things.”
She rolled her eyes and nodded her head, “But that’s the fun of Christmas.”
“So...Another baby? Hurry down the chimney tonight.~”
Y/N let go of Namjoon’s hand and started to walk away from him, “I’m going back to Su-jin.”
“Wait no! Comeback!”

An Exhaustive Explanation For Why Qin Su Took Her Life Of Her Own Volition
(Or: For God's Sake, Please Just Let Her Have This One Thing)
Okay, so let's leave aside the fact that Wei Wuxian is an unreliable narrator. At the point in the novel at which he insists that Jin Guangyao must have forced Qin Su to kill herself somehow, Wei Wuxian has also insisted that Lan Wangji would totally hate it if he knew they'd made out while drunk. Let's also leave aside that Wei Wuxian himself will reassess his opinion of Qin Su's death later on, and IIRC says nothing about it either way in the drama, because the people who insist that JGY Definitely Killed Made Her Do That sure do. A narrator being unreliable doesn't mean we can't trust anything they tell us, after all; it just means we need to compare their views to outside evidence, the way you would with a primary source document.
AND WHEN YOU DO THAT
IT STILL MAKES ZERO SENSE
Picture all this from Jin Guangyao's standpoint. Let's assume for funsies that you don't care about your wife who is also your half-sister, and have no compunctions about killing her to keep the incest secret. Wouldn't you just... do that? Wouldn't you kill her the second that little paperman flies away and you hear the alarm?
"He obviously couldn't do that! The paperman saw her alive so it'd be weird if she suddenly was gone!" Yeah, and everyone at the cultivation conference saw her alive when they came into the treasure-and-torture room, and it would be even weirder if she suddenly stabbed herself to death in front of them.
"Ah, but he needed to know who sent her the letter! He can't afford to kill her!" Wow, hey, that's right! You, Evil Jin Guangyao, have just spent the preceding scene wheedling and then threatening Qin Su so she'll tell you who send the letter, and she stood firm the whole time! So forcing her to kill herself in front of everyone when she still hasn't told you that important piece of information would be PRETTY DUMB, wouldn't it? (Almost as dumb as giving her the opportunity to interact with all the people you're trying to keep the secret from, but hey, maybe it took you longer to hide da-ge's head than anticipated.)
"Maybe he'd given up on getting her to tell him anything so her killing herself was to divert suspicion away from him!" Okay, first of all, how is "your wife (whom nobody but you has seen recently) kills herself with no warning" going to make things look LESS suspicious? Second of all, things were going JUST FINE. You hid da-ge's head. People were buying your "this cursed cabinet is where I keep my former boss's soul-stealing knife" story. You haven't even subtly brought up Suibian to change the subject. The narrative misogyny means that nobody has directly talked to Qin Su and "of course my wife also hangs out in our house, lol" is flying just fine as an explanation. You had almost put out this fire! Why would you throw gasoline on it by making Qin Su kill herself?
Honestly, the smartest thing for you to do in this situation would be to knock your wife unconscious and move her to her sleeping chambers or a couch or something in the main part of the palace. That gets her out of sight and renders her unable to talk in a way that won't raise suspicions, and gives you the option of going "omg guyyys my wife is sleeping :( this totally unwarranted search of our home is gonna wake her up :(" to make people leave!
But, okay. Let's shift our perspectives here. Jin Guangyao has a history of making deranged choices when he's in Panic Mode. Maybe his brain short-circuited and, somehow, he decided that MAKE QIN SU KILL HERSELF IN PUBLIC was the best course of action. Wei Wuxian himself tells us that she wasn't under the influence of talismans or anything, so somehow Jin Guangyao convinced her to do this with his words. Never mind that we just saw Jin Guangyao deploy an ungodly combination of feigned ignorance, gaslighting, actual sincerity, veiled threats, and manipulation with zero impact. Somehow, he used his words successfully.
What could he possibly say?
Picture all this, now, from Qin Su's standpoint. Your entire world has been shattered. Your husband who is also your half-brother has been lying to you for your entire marriage, has done nothing to reassure you that he didn't murder your son, and has sealed your meridians to prevent you from fleeing. He then brought you into a secret room in your home that you didn't know existed and which, you discover, houses his sworn brother's severed head. All you know is that you cannot tell Jin Guangyao who gave you the letter because you're certain that he will have her killed. Shit's real fucked and you have nobody to help you.
Now every sect leader in the jianghu--including your husband's remaining sworn brother, your young nephew, and your nephew's maternal uncle--has shown up to search your husband's home. His top priority in this moment is quashing their suspicions so they leave him alone enough to regroup.
One of three things must be true for you.
1.) Your top priority is survival. You don't want to die. If you care about your reputation, you know that you're as screwed as he is if word of this gets out, and unfortunately the only way to survive is to play along with your husband's weird shit, at least for now. In that case, the best way to assure him that you're on his team is to help him assure the other sect leaders that Everything Is Normal And Fine. If you don't want to die, then you're not going to be susceptible to any insistence that you kill yourself.
2.) You're so furious that you don't care what happens to you or your reputation as long as you take Jin Guangyao down with you. In that case, you'd tell him whatever he wanted to hear and then IMMEDIATELY scream to the other sect leaders where Nie Mingjue's head is currently located, or you'd drop the incest bomb yourself hoping that the paperman is somewhere in that room and can back you up, or you'd grab that dagger and stab your husband, or some combination of all three! You're not going to quietly kill yourself at his request, because you've suffered enough for his bullshit!
"Well, maybe he didn't threaten her. She's going to be worried about Bicao and her father. Maybe he threatened one of them!" Yeah, maybe, but that's a threat to get someone to cooperate. You can't make sure they're still alive if you're dead! And if you're convinced that this guy has lied to you constantly for the past 10+ years, you're not going to believe him when he says"kill yourself and I'll be niceys to them." There is nothing at all that he could say to make her harm herself if she hadn’t been so inclined.
And that leaves
3.) You're in such despair that you actively want to die. You can never trust your husband again. You can never trust anyone again, honestly, because he wasn't the only person you loved who kept this secret from you. You don't trust that the other sect leaders will do anything to help you, just as your mother didn't trust that anyone would do anything to help her all those years ago. (When they barge into the palace and walk straight past you as though you were a piece of furniture, your distrust is confirmed.) Maybe, despite everything, you still love your husband too much to kill him. Maybe you fear that, without evidence, he will be seen as an innocent victim and you will be seen as his mad, murderous wife. Maybe you don't care what happens to anyone else, but you know that you don't want to deal with this anymore, and you are the only one you trust to help yourself escape it.
The tragedy of Qin Su is that she is never permitted to make a fully informed decision about her life. At least let her final action be something she knowingly chooses.

...I need to see more content of Wei Wuxian solving problems by manipulating people’s emotions.
He isn’t a long term manipulator like Jin Guangyao and Nie Huaisang, but it’s actually one of his main strategies when it comes to solving problems! Stopping Mianmian being sacrificed in the Xuanwu cave? He angers Wen Chao into stepping out of Wen Zhuliu’s protection, allowing him to hold him at swordpoint and to take advantage of Wen Zhuliu’s loyalty, meaning that he (the greatest threat at the moment) won’t attack them. Helping Lan Wangji fight Xue Yang in the mists of Yi City where he can’t be seen? Taunt Xue Yang into talking by bringing up Xiao Xingchen, a subject he’s very sore on, so Lan Wangji can find him by ear. Suspect that Su She is behind the loss of everybody’s spiritual powers at the Second Siege? Mock him so he grows impatient and careless, as well as trick him into thinking he (Wei Wuxian) had two pages from the Collection of Turmoil to heighten that effect and stir up paranoia, so he carelessly uses spiritual power to deflect Lan Wangji’s attack – something he probably wouldn’t have done otherwise.
That applies when he’s on the defensive too. When Wen Chao and co capture him in Yiling and he doesn’t even have a Golden Core, what does he do? Use his words to scare him into not killing him – very much manipulating him emotionally (though I do believe he meant/wanted to mean what he said then, too)!
I’ve talked a bit about how he’s very resourceful, but something else that’s overlooked is that he’s also extremely emotionally perceptive, and won’t hesitate to use that to his advantage in dangerous situations. He may not be someone who manipulates for some ambitious, long-term goal. But as a tactic or a strategy? He’s very good at it, and it’s a method his mind very much defaults to when solving problems.

I love JYL don't get me wrong! But also. She is solely written as a part of the male characters and does not get much in her own right. She is Wei Wuxian's older sect sister, or Jiang Cheng's sister, or Jin Zixuan's fiance/wife, or Jin Ling's mother he never got to know. Even what characterization people give her (like liking soup/cooking or standing up for her family despite being gentle) are things that have to do with her brothers. I wish we got more of her in her own right.
AND ALSO. ALSO??? HER DEATH MAKES. NO SENSE. Okay first of all - she was in Lanling grieving for her very recently dead husband & taking care of her newborn baby. Who would let that woman out of Lanling????? WHY???? How did she get out of there SO FAST????? She doesn't have a sword/isn't a cultivator (at least in MDZS) so she couldn't have flown. And then after she got there WHO LET HER JUST OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLEFIELD???? WHY DID SHE GO THERE???? Even if there was a short part of her saying "I need to talk to Wei Wuxian about how he killed my husband and I'm going to get there no matter what" would've clarified things a little bc it's like okay she needs to go there even if we don't know how. Where are my answers MXTX, where are my answers????

Cause of Death: Suicide; Stabbed herself with a knife. (NOTE: In some versions of the story, she was being controlled and thus forced to kill herself.
Propaganda:
I'm fairly certain this character was only created as set dressing for the main villain's tragedy. We get zero insight into her inner life, zero hints that any such inner life might even exist, and after she dies basically no other named character other than the aforementioned villain is shown to be majorly affected by her death, even those who logically should have meaningful relationships with her.
Compared to the other two main female characters in this series (who are also fridged) Jiang Yanli and Wen Qing, Qin Su is probably the least aggravating because she's barely in the show and has very little character that we see. But I still think it's worth noting. I really wish that she could've survived and been there in Guanyin Temple IT COULD'VE BEEN COOL OKAY.
Wen Qing
Cause of Death: Executed; Burned to ashes.
Propaganda:
The fact that Wen Qing is the character that originally said the thing about "I'm sorry" and "Thank you", which is repeated multiple times in the post-resurrection parts of the series, but is so rarely mentioned by name is so aggravating! She's such an important part of the plot that did SO MANY THINGS but just basically disappears after her death!!! The only time I really remember her being mentioned is when her brother, Wen Ning, mentions her integral role in the golden core reveal. Jiang Yanli's ghost haunts the series after her death, but Wen Qing's really doesn't, and that's so fucked up to me. She even dies during the same time that Wen Ning does, but then it's revealed he survived (well, "survived", he is a zombie, but he was that beforehand too) SO WHY COULDN'T SHE HAVE SURVIVED TOO????

I've been understanding a lot of cultural subtext around MDZS thanks to you. I'd like to ask more about what makes "cultivation partners." Is it synonymous to marriage or is it a different thing altogether? From my understanding of various marriages depicted in MDZS, marriage can easily be a power move, right. I've also read about dual cultivation, but not sufficiently, and I wish to understand if becoming cultivation partners, sex, marriage - all are supposed to be exclusive stuff. like Jin Guangsham was married yet had sexual relations with plenty of people, perhaps including cultivators? JFM and Madam Yu had a complicated marriage; were they cultivation partners as well? Mianmian married a non cultivator (?) but still went on night hunts to cultivate her core. Other marriages were Qin Su and JGY, and JZX and JYL - so, I do wonder if all of these were classified as cultivation partners.
Another thing I do wonder is, from where I am, in olden times in certain dynasties it was acceptable to have many wives or spouses or marry for gains. In others, the emperor had one true wife who would repeat 7 lifetimes with him and the others were on a lower social level - ploys for expansion etc. I wonder how monogamy etc plays out in chinese context around mdzs time frame, as well as what sort of "expectations" marriage should entail?

Woo… that’s a fair bit. Okay. I’m going to try to answer what I can. Let’s take this one thing at a time.
1. The O.G meaning of cultivation partner:
Cultivation partner = Daolǚ （道侣）
From a lingual view, dao is path, truth, knowledge, and faith. Lǚ is a companion who shares your food, your bed, and your path. So Daolǚ = one who walks the same path in pursuit of truth, faith, and knowledge as you.
From a Daoist view, Daolǚ is a couple who cultivate together, who seek the same truth together, and who share life and death together. They don’t necessarily have to be husband and wife or lovers. They can also be family members, parent and child, or shifu and dizi. They can be of different sexes or the same sex. All of those are only accessories to the OG meaning.
The core of Daolǚ is “ones who seek the same truth.”

2. So why did MDZS use Daolǚ when talking about married couples? AKA a stealth reference to a real-life historical split in opinions:
The first time the topic of Daolǚ comes up in the novel is during the Cloud Recess era when Lan Qiren taught the history of the Lan ancestor, how Lan An met his Daolǚ, and together they created House Lan. Then the students started discussing their future Daolǚ, which eventually led to the fight with Jin Zixuan.
Daolǚ, in this context, definitely sounds like a different word for a married couple in the setting. Why?
Well…. Because there is a historical split in opinions regarding what Daolǚ really is in practice.
Of course, if we are only talking in theory and lingual origin, then the married or sexual aspect just doesn’t come into play. But in real practice, this kind of close proximity inevitably ends up becoming (or is born out of) actual physical, emotional, and sexual intimacy.
Think about it. The one who shares your faith. The one who shares your path. The one who holds the same ideal. The one who shares your food, your life, your bed. The one whose life and death are intertwined with yours. The one who will walk with you to the very end, wherever it may be. The one whose soul is literally linked to yours through shared cultivation.
You don’t really get this kind of exclusive, super intense, intimate relationship from anywhere other than a married couple. Of course, there are exceptions, but they are, by and large, exceptions that prove the rule.
It’s very funny because even in the official Baidu entry for Daolǚ, beneath the super official definition provided by Daoism associations and sourced from some of the most credible historical texts that survive to this day, even they had to admit in the modern understanding, and especially in media portrayal, Daolǚ is used almost exclusively to refer to Daoist couples in every way that a regular couple can be. Even funnier, if you go and search for the term 道侣双修 (Daolǚ dual cultivate) in the book section, it turns up some 4300 titles concerning Daolǚ dual cultivation. And a very significant portion of those 4300 titles aren’t actually entertainment media at all, but actual historical texts, modern research, and serious treatises written by reputable modern Daoists on the subject.
Okay. So then, why not just admit that outright? Why the extra step? What’s there to disagree about?
Well, because sex is icky.
Hahahaha! But no really…
3. Dual Cultivation aka Magic Sex:
And here we are at the crux of the historical split of opinions.
Dual Cultivation aka Magic Sex (eyebrow waggle!).
From Daoism's founding point, the idea of harmony between Yin and Yang has been one of the founding precepts laid by Laozi himself. There’s not a single reputable Daoist school that disagrees with this precept. The disagreement comes from the interpretation of this precept instead.
From very early on, there were already schools that believed in the application of Yin Yang harmony to manifest as the physical and spiritual relation between men and women (or Yang bodies and Yin bodies).
How early are we talking? Well, BCE kind of early. The earliest text that teaches sex art as part of Daoism is a pre-Qin-dynasty book named The Dao of Huangchi 黃赤之道. This text was later religiousized by various schools of Daoism.
Before the 10th century, there was not much disagreement at all among ancient Daoists about the sex part.
Sexually explicit dual cultivation only became an issue sometime around the Tang dynasty forward (618 - 906 CE). Why the Tang dynasty? Well, that’s around the time Daoism became bourgeois. Before Tang, Daoism was the religion of anti-authoritarian hippies (for lack of a better word). Yep, they were very screw-the-government, let-me-have-my-weed-and-intense-sexercise-while-high kind of people (I’m not even kidding).
One of the earlier records of Daolǚ dual cultivation after the bourgeois-ification of Daoism that still survives to this day is Wu Zhen Pian by Zhang Boduan from the 10th century. Around this same era, numerous sects and schools adopting the same practice of Daolǚ dual cultivation (sexually explicit at that) sprouted up, such as: Shuangxiu Sect, Fangzhong School, etc…
The Wu Zhen Pian, despite being a fairly cryptid text, also explicitly referred to the “places where the body is first given qi” as the male and female genitalia. So there really isn’t any room for misinterpretation as to what exactly it was speaking of.
Around this same era, the disagreement around dual cultivation being sexually explicit and Daolǚ being 99.99% couples became very intense… as in sect war kind of intense.
Ancient High Chinese society was, by and large, very “performatively” puritanical. So from the time Daoism started rubbing shoulders with kings and rulers (instead of eschewing them as the literal founders of Daoism taught), they also started eschewing their fairly sexual, anarchist roots.
Ergo… the ideological schism.
This schism would split between diehard, purists practicing Daoists from the more neutral ones that used Daoism as a political tool as well.
4. A history of sexual exploitation:
Okay, so sexy Daoism is the pure, root Daoism. Why isn’t it the one being preached as official these days?
Because… as usual, whenever there’s a great idea, some chuckleheads somewhere would come along, bend it around its knees, and abuse it instead.
Think about it for a moment. Daoist sects in ancient times were steeped in mysticism. Many of them were powerful and rich. You throw in the sex element. It’s extremely easy for exploitation to happen.
Cults are some of the oldest things in the history of mankind. Sex cults aren’t new, and they aren’t rare, either. Charles Mansion of the Mansion family is just one in a very, very long string of such things.
Let’s just say that for many reasons and many factors, pure Daoist schools practicing sexually explicit dual cultivation also tended to have a checkered history and that along with the historical transformation of Daoism from an anarchist religion to a state-sponsored philosophy massively discredited them.
To this day, you can still trace this history of exploitation down to modern media concepts such as “Human Cauldron,” which is the term denoting a human being used as a sex slave and a cultivation tool by another cultivator. You would think that’s a modern media invention… but no… this term has a long and dark history. Forgive me but I don’t exactly want to go into details in this part.
5. So, what does this all have to do with MDZS?
Well, you can use this context to understand how concepts like dual cultivation and Daolǚ are interpreted and practiced by different people within the MDZS world. MDZS is based in Wei Jin period, which was a period of transition, chaos, and clashing ideologies. You can kinda see that complexity in the way a concept like Daolǚ seems so… mixed and different between theory and practice.
When you really get down to it, there are two ways to understand Daolǚ. 1/ Those who share the same mind, the same faith, the same truth. And 2/ Those who are boinking magically.
Do Wangxian meet these requirements? Yep, both of them. I think that’s pretty clear. Near the end of the story, when Wei Wuxian said his goodbye to Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui, he also remarked about everyone having their own “road” to walk and that, in the end, only one person walked the same “road” as him. That person, Lan Zhan, was also the one person he wanted to walk with. (I don’t have to provide a snap for this, right? People aren’t going to shoot out of nowhere and accuse me of not providing adequate citations, right?). Dao is road. So that’s another nod to the fact that Wangxian are Daolǚ in every interpretation of the concepts (And yes, I’m totally into the interpretation that their boinking is, in fact, magical and working to stabilize Wei Wuxian’s cultivation! Look at the Japanese art featuring Wei Wuxian with the blue cloud patterns on his body! Clearly, lots of people agree with this interpretation! You can’t convince me otherwise!).
What about Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan? Are they Daolǚ? Ehh… it’s kind of a toss-up, isn’t it? There’s not really much in any permutations of MDZS (with maybe the exception of the live-action) that either supports or disprove. I think if you want to interpret them as Daolǚ and Jin Zixuan would eventually help Jiang Yanli cultivate a Jindan and be able to stay young alongside him, you definitely can do that. Or if you want to see them as a more traditional, ordinary husband and wife couple, then that’s a valid interpretation too.
Jin Furen and Jin Guangshan? Ehhh… the above paragraph applies… although… geee… I really don’t see them as either pursuing the same truth or… exclusively boinking magically or that either is using the other as a human cauldron… although that doesn’t disqualify Jin Guangshan himself from using that for his sexual escapade? But then why would he die to marathon sex? I guess Jin Guangyao is hax enough?
In any case, I’m going to stop here. I’ve been sick for the past three weeks and my work has been really demanding. I really tried hard to reserve some free time to write. Phee and Jin as parallels in DFF episode 7
I feel like I haven't seen enough people talk about how Phee and Jin are parallels in episode 7. Both reacting in anger in ways that damage Non, and that they likely carry guilt for in the future...
Spoilers for episode 7 below:
In episode 7, we see both Jin and Phee react to Non badly after finding out that Non has had sex with Keng. And the way they both react to that information is... not good.
Phee reacts to the knowledge that Non has been "cheating on" him (I'd like to remind people that Non was coerced so we as the audience shouldn't label it that way, but from Phee's POV that's what it was) by telling Non to "get lost and die"
And he says this despite knowing that Non has su*cidal tendencies and tried to take his own life what seems like mere days before this.
I feel like people gloss over this because they understand why Phee is angry. And I understand too. But the point still stands that Phee basically tells Non to go k!ll himself despite knowing that the consequences of that could be dire... and permanent. If Non actually d!es, disappears, or heaven forbid actually kills himself after this? I don't doubt that Phee will carry the guilt of those final words for the rest of his life, and think of what he could've and should've done differently to prevent that unfortunate fate...
On the other hand, Jin. Who reacts to seeing Non sleeping with someone by recording him. Jin isn't shown to post the video himself, but he still made that snap decision in anger. Copper has said Jin reacted this way because he thought Non was cheating on his boyfriend...
But regardless of his intentions, the fact remains that the video he recorded is the one that was later released. And you can see on his face even in the past that he feels bad about it, feels guilty for his part in what happened. And in the present you see that same guilt...
There's a parallel drawn between these two boys. The two leads of this series who have revolved around Non this entire time. One with a crush, one, his boyfriend. Both dealing with harsh emotions and dragged into the mess that's been created by the others. They both react in anger to the same situation, both do something INCREDIBLY damaging to Non in a snap moment of anger. And both of them, I'm sure, carry that guilt into the future...
It changes Jin from a happy, smiley person into one who is serious and harsh to his friends, who has a damaged relationship with those closest around him, who calls himself a coward and wants to run to another country and never come back.
And it changes Phee from someone who whole-heartedly loves and asks the person he loves to be his boyfriend... to someone who can't get the words out, who seems afraid of commitment. Because he could get hurt? Or because he could hurt them again?
The impact of these actions have changed both boys in the present, and the parallels in the episode are so striking and interesting... and I don't think people talk about it enough. There's potential for a compelling story about these two learning to heal and forgive themselves.
And I hope the show delivers on it, because it would be an incredibly deep and compelling story that touches on dark pieces of humanity that we all carry. The guilt and shame of not always being our best person, and the impacts that has on the people around us. It could show something really touching and heartfelt if these two people who were kids during all of this can learn to forgive each other, forgive themselves, and move into the future together.

Jin Guangyao isn't expecting his sister to seek him out for tea, because she's mostly been treating him as if he isn't here, but when she comes knocking at his door - or, well, Xichen's - he doesn't have any reason to deny her.
She fidgets as she sits across from him and he takes the opportunity to look her over as he pours the tea.
Xuanyu – as she insists everyone call her, regardless of propriety – looks much the same as she had before. She wears the pale cream and gold underrobes of the Jin still, but he’s pretty sure it’s just so she has something to get dirty while she’s studying or training. Her Lan overrobe always managed to escape unscathed from her worse disasters.
Her hair is a mess, held in a barely presentable ponytail, and she doesn’t bother with any makeup even though she’d been sent to Cloud Recesses with a whole case of it. She follows the Lan rules of subtlety and minimalism of appearance well, even if she can’t quite make her actions do the same.
Everyone is talking about her spars, and her form, and how the weak, pathetic wife that had been forced on Hanguang Jun might be a match for him after all.
Jin Guangyao finds it very suspicious. Xichen tells him that he finds everyone suspicious and so it’s not a useful assessment.
Xichen had slept on the floor that night. In the morning he’d thanked him for his concern in realigning his spine. Lans could be so infuriating.
“What do you think of Jin Guangshan?” Xuanyu asks abruptly.
That hadn’t been what he was expecting.
“Our father?” he asks.
She makes a face, realizes part way through that she shouldn’t do that, and reaches up to rub her nose in an attempt to hide the reaction. “Yeah.”
“Why do you ask?” Is his father getting suspicious of him? Is that why he blocked his marriage to Xichen and pulled Xuanyu into this at the last second?
She shrugs. “I just don’t know him very well, is all. But you’d know better than me, right?”
“What relevance does our father have in Cloud Recesses?” He’s not going to say anything until he understands her motive.
Xuanyu snorts. “He’s the only reason I’m in Cloud Recesses.”
This is true, and something in her tone rings true. “You seem to be settling in well.”
Technically he’s supposed to have been helping her do that, as its the justification of his many months away from Koi Tower, but she’s hardly seemed interested. She’s never asked for anything.
He supposes she’s asking now.
“I was settled where I was,” she points out, then winces, obviously knowing that’s not quite true.
He’d asked around. The Mo family had not treated the bastard daughter of an out of favor sister as anything but exactly like she was.
He feels the first stirrings of sympathy that he doesn’t quite manage to suppress. Their circumstances aren’t all that different. Her mother hadn’t been a whore, but she’d been treated like one. “Why do you think Father picked you?”
She’s not the only bastard daughter he has. Claiming Qin Su would be problematic, but there are others even still.
“Because of you, I guess,” she says, but it doesn’t come out as accusing. “I don’t understand why he didn’t just use you for the alliance.”
“I suppose he decided I was someone he couldn’t control,” he says, both because it’s true and to check her reaction.
Xuanyu throws her head back and lets out a bark of laughter. He blinks, but she meets his gaze head on and her grin is wide and sharp and oddly familiar. “And he decided that I was controllable instead? That’s not the decision of a smart man.”
“No,” Jin Guangyao says slowly, looking her over in a new light, “I suppose it isn’t.”

While we are on topic, there is a moment missing on my living together post but we all know it very well.
If you pay close attention to Jimin you will notice him subtly lifting his eyebrow. Its so subtle that idek how people noticed. JK looks at Jimin while members are laughing at him and Jimin does that. 🤭 So yeah, that coupled up with the fact that they were all making fan of JK and his mattresses but Jimin who under normal circumstances would be part of the discussion was quiet as a church mouse. That was incredibly sus.
Random shit number 3-> is a tiny BV analysis coz we know how much i love those. Okay so JK climbs up a steep hill without cameras at the crack of dawn to get his baby some snow. We know all about that. So tkkrs the morons that they are, tried to claim this moment for themselves because JK showed the snow to V first and offered him to touch if he wanted to. But, aside from JK waiting for Jimin to come out, apart from him jumping up eagerly to show Jimin the snow, apart from him watching Jimin's face to see his reaction when he handed him said snow, and apart from editors saying point blank that JK got a gift for Jimin, we also have this;

So re: Qin Su's death, one thing I'm absolutely certain of is that she did not just conveniently kill herself due to her high level of distress, at the exact moment most convenient to a person she was super mad at.
Because, frankly, mxtx is not that shitty a writer. She doesn't sweat the details or logistics of things, characters are allowed to coincidentally turn up in the right place to make the plot work and so forth, but these novels are intensely concerned with character motive and internal life. Everyone does things for their own reasons.
People do what the plot requires, but a defining feature of her writing is that everyone is fashioned into the shape of the kind of person who would do that thing in this situation. Sometimes whole scenes or subplots exist mainly to put on display the underlying cognitive patterns that justify as individual choices the kinds of things stock characters routinely do in genre novels, for no reason than that they are The Type Of Character who Does That.
If Qin Su was going to commit suicide about the bad news, there would have been hints that this was the direction her thoughts were trending during the preceding scene, where we're introduced to her reactions. And there aren't.
Her primary reaction is anger. She's scared to death when her husband paralyzes her and puts her on his dismemberment table to interrogate later for the name of her informant. She is contemptuous of his caring almost exclusively about what all these horrors could do to their reputation.
There is nothing in the scene to suggest she would, given the opportunity to denounce him to the cultivation world, choose instead to escape by knife.
The interpretation of this sequence that says she Just Did That really annoys me, because it requires ignoring basically every single piece of information about the character other than the fact that Wei Wuxian always thought since they were kids that she wasn't very bright.
Furthermore, it would be out of character for Jin Guangyao to have knowingly arranged a situation likely to go so badly for him, and wildly unusual for him to get so lucky if he had. This man has shit luck normally.
The sensible thing for him to do, in a universe where Qin Su just conveniently opted for suicide instead of ratting on him, would have been to take the ten to twenty minutes of prep time he had to work with to disappear her the same way he did nmj's head.
This might have required killing her first, since we don't know where he put it, but while I'm sure he didn't want to do that I'm equally sure he was entirely capable. He had a convenient scapegoat handy to blame for her disappearance.
He had no reason to allow her to be visible and capable of independent action when his cavalcade of guests arrived. But there she was, dazed but unrestrained. And then...cursed knife time.
Super convenient! She's dead and can't blab, and lots of important people saw her do it and saw how horrified he was and are disposed to be sympathetic. Works out much better for him than the risk of being blamed if she disappears.
So Wei Wuxian's assumption that jgy set the suicide up and compelled her somehow is the most logical inference. Neither of their characters is really compatible with the other scenario.
If Jin Guangyao had actual mind control powers he definitely would have used them a lot, so the most straightforward version of what happened is he used some technique or drug that would confuse her and suppress her cognition, then deliberately put 'cursed dagger that preys on your negative feelings and makes you kill yourself' within reach just before everyone entered.
I'm sure if it hadn't worked, and she'd just kind of stared into the distance while he talked his way out of the unproveable allegations and weaponized Mo Xuanyu's bad reputation and so forth, he'd have been happy with that outcome too, since it would still have meant a lot of important people saw her alive and not freaking out, and then he'd still have been able to torture her for information later. (Again, something I'm sure he didn't want to do, but absolutely would have.)
But this worked out well and got rid of two exposure threats at once while buying him sympathy points.
Although considering his shit luck, I wouldn't rule out that his plan only went as far as sedating her so she couldn't make trouble and he could show everyone how not paralyzed on his murder table she was, and he'd forgotten he had an evil dagger that compelled you to kill yourself lying around in reach of a woman whose ability to exert force of will he'd just reduced to nothing.
And he wasn't expecting that result at all.

Can we talk about this very SUS Jikook moment from Bon Voyage Season 2 ep 2 please?
So the boys are playing Hide in Seek in the dark (aka with blindfolds and all that inside their first accommodation) to win money for spending on their first full day in Hawaii.

Jin was trying to maneuver and climb from where he was in the window to the bed and both Jungkook and Taehyung find him. Jungkook ends up putting his hands on Jin’s backside and goes “whose butt is this? Who are you?”
So again I say JIMIN HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT’S JUNGKOOK’S BUTT FROM FEEL ALONE UNLESS YOU’VE SPENT A LOOOOOOOOOT OF TIME TOUCHING IT OUTSIDE WHAT WE’VE SEEN.

Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian aren't the same.
Jin Guangyao is one of the best written characters I've come across. A villian that doesnt look like one, doesnt act like one, is likeable, has strong motivations and a defined personality and extremely fun to read fanfics about. But what I dislike is the role that fanon gives him; specially his role in the story with allusions to Wei Wuxian, casting Jin Guangyao as someone similar to Wei Ying. The "poor children turned to forced villains" trope. This meta is about WHY that's NOT true.
The humiliation of his mother didn't give him the right to burn down an entire brothel. (personally, I found it satisfying but). The desire of acceptance from his father was a motivation for his crimes, not a factor that validates those crimes. Often, Jin Guangyao is treated as the counter part of Wei Wuxian. They both share only three similarities, however:
1. Both came from low backgrounds and struggled a lot in their childhoods. Meng Yao had food, but witnessed constant humiliation. Wei Ying had nothing, and then got tangled into the fucked up dynamics of the Jiangs.
2. Both were found to be much different than what people believed them to be. Wei Wuxian was supposed to be evil, hateful, a murderer who kills just to satisfy his blood thirst and need for power, a monster. Jin Guangyao was supposed to be the guy who worked hard and rose to the top, humble, kind, honest and pure of heart.
3. Both had their reputations destroyed from targeted rumor mill.
That is all.
Other than that, Jin Guangyao is NOT at all similar to Wei Wuxian by any measure. He had to do bad things because he desired power, and to gain, power in a corrupt world, you need to be even more corrupted. He killed all those who looked down upon him (not bodily harm him). He clenched his teeth and killed everyone who protested against him or questioned him. He silenced everybody before they could silence him. He isn't SOLELY responsible but he only played the cards that would bring HIM benefit, not the cards that were righteous, or good, or kind.
Wei Wuxian never desired power, was willing to give up a limb for the safety of his sect. When has he ever raised his sword or his flute if not in self defense? When has he ever attacked first and when has he ever killed an innocent? The only innocent he's most directly responsible for is Jin Zixuan and that was too, in an ambush, where he was asked to back down.
Not just that, everyone is always talking about the Nightless City massacre but never about the Burial Mounds Seige 2.0 where all of the cultivators WOULD have DIED, if not for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian.
If your reasoning behind justifying Jin Guangyao's actions and murders is the "intention" then you come across as hypocritical if you condemn Wei Wuxian for the Nightless City massacre, ignoring everything that led to it. His prowess in cultivation, his natural genius, and his terrifying powers that he built himself even after losing a core are not crimes that he should be punished for, but he was. Because he's supposed to be just the son of a servant. How dare he be so powerful? So many attempts on his life were made and he survived them all. So many attempts to summon his soul, and they didn't work.
Is surviving a crime? For the Jiang Cheng stans who always thrust the survivor narrative onto JC, this is a question for them. Was Wei Wuxian wrong to have survived incidents in which he was being attacked? Should he have died for doing absolutely nothing wrong, other than having a different voice? For standing against a structure that always prioritizes one being above all, being the ultimate voice that cannot be questioned?
Here I'm going to quote some parts from the ExR translation of Villanous Friends:
He Su, “What was the irresistible trend? What was stirring up trouble? Jin GuangShan wanted to establish the position of chief cultivator only to imitate the QishanWen Sect in being the only ones at the top. Do you think all the world is ignorant? You frame me like this only because I spoke the truth!”
When you really succeed, all of the world of cultivation would see the true face of the LanlingJin Sect. Do you think killing me alone would put you eternally at ease? How wrong you are! We, the TingshanHe Sect, teem with talent. From now on, we’ll unite and never surrender to you Wen-dogs of another skin!”
Sounds familiar?
After a few laughs, he continued, “Sect Leader Jin, let me ask you something else. Do you think that, because the QishanWen Sect is gone, the LanlingJin Sect has all right to replace it?”
Wei WuXian added, “Everything has to be given to you? Everyone has to listen to you? Looking at how the LanlingJin Sect does things, I almost thought that it was the QishanWen Sect’s empire all over again.”
Wei WuXian, “Did I say something wrong? Forcing living people to be bait and beating them up whenever they refused to obey—is this any different from what the QishanWen Sect does?”
These were voices that questioned the greater powers. This is what happened to these voices:
Jin Guangyao: That’s not the way to go about things, is it? The TingshanHe Sect rebelled and schemed to assassinate Sect Leader Jin with all its forces before it was caught red-handed. How could that be called without a reason?”
Flashback to Wen Chao, asking if the disciples in the Xuanwu Cave were rebelling when they protected Mianmian who was asked to be the live bait of a monster.
Also, flashback to Wei Wuxian standing up for the Wens and being called a rebel when he stood up for the Wens who were being used as live baits to strengthen the Jin.
The ones over there cried, “Brother! He’s lying! We didn’t, we didn’t!”
Flashback to Wen Ning "losing control" at Koi Tower probably due to Xue Yang's invention. But the point to be taken away is that Sect Leader He Su's younger disciples, who are harmless, are framed as murderers. A position similar to what Wei Wuxian was put into.
He Su, “Utterly nonsense! Open your eyes and fucking look! There are nine-year-old children here! Old men who can’t even walk! How could they rebel against anything?! Why would they assassinate your dad out of nowhere?!”
Funny how the evils of society comprised of old grandmas, uncles, a toddler, a doctor, a fierce corpse, and a cultivator with no status, no core, no money, no voice living in a cave with a pool of blood, digging the Burial soil to grow some potatoes.
And not those who were sitting on their thrones, reveling in riches and ordering people around.
Jin GuangYao, “Because you made a mistake and committed murder, Young Master He Su, while they refused to accept Koi Tower’s conviction of you, of course.”
"A mistake" reminds me of the incident at qionggi path. Even if Jin Zixuan hadn't died that day, they would've kept cornering Wei Wuxian until he'd have no other choice but to go on the offensive (which is what he did.)
Turns out even being sooo powerful that he could shake mountains, he eventually died.
Yet, at such a place, nobody would listen to his protests. Sitting before him were two villains who already treated him as though he were dead. What they enjoyed was precisely his dying struggle. Smiling, Jin GuangYao leaned back, waving his hand, “Hush him up, hush him up.”
"You shut them in live?"
Xue Yang turned around, curling his lips, “Wei WuXian never used live humans, but I wanna try.”
So, Xue Yang is an actual demonic cultivator who's protected by the Jins, murdered 2 entire clans and this is the third one and godness knows how many more. Absolutely very few people give actual fucks about what cultivation methods to employ. The one who really cared was perhaps, Lan Wangji.
Jin Guangyao as you can see isn't being "forced" to kill people because he's of lower birth and nobody accepts him :(
He's killing people to silence those who speak against his and his father's (and they both are one and the same entity. he's acting on his father's orders which he could've disobeyed and run away but he would lose his sect reputation and standing.)
Why does his reputation and standing mean more than the lives of all these 70 people ?
Were they trying to kill him? No.
Did they attack him first to the point he would lose his life? No.
Would they have thrown him into a whore house? No.
Let us please not compare Wei Wuxian and Jin Guangyao.
MXTX wants us to know what's said and told may not be right. Wei Wuxian isn't fond of the techniques that are used to confirm Jin Guangyao's demise. He's critical of how nobody else is concerned. He's unsure of what NHS's motivations are - does he now want complete power? or did his plan only extend up to his revenge? He's critical of how only yesterday people were all over this guy and today they hate him. Critical of how society works on what is favourable and not what is true.
But he's not SUPPORTIVE of Jin Guangyao. He's sympathetic to people turning onto you, but not empathetic towards Jin Guangyao. He believes Jin Guangyao to be a cruel man.
Those are two different things.
Nobody knows better than Wei Wuxian how it feels to be set up at every step:
1. Firstly he was used as a punching bag for Madam Yu and an emotional one for JC throughout his childhood
2. The Wens completely played him up, setting him as the cause of LP's fall.
3. Then, he was played by the Jins and the cultivation world until his death by validating JC's jealousy against him, by villianizing him and estranging him, by setting up the ambush, by sending JZX, by making false promises, by not checking for validity, by controlling Wen Ning, by setting up the seige parade, by getting JYL there, and finally the seige. (even after his death disrespecting his all)
4. He was brought back to the world on the revenge plans of NHS and tossed like a tennis ball from the plans of NHS and JGY. Yi City arc? children would've died -> NHS. Burial Mound seige 2.0? everyone would've died -> JGY. if LWJ wasn't with him at every step of the way, Wei Ying would've once again been in such a spot. Without any status or authority he would've gotten no help, no aid, and been villianized once more. He would've been stabbed and captured with nobody to save him. He would've made himself the bait without anybody to fight the monsters off.
Each of us have individual capacities and also, each of us have the one thing we cannot let happen:
1. Wei Ying can't let injustice prevail and sit by the side doing nothing
2. Jin Guangyao can't take in being stripped of power and being a lowlife again.
Those are two very different things. JGY made every decision he could to escape his grand fear, which was personal. I don't condemn his motivations personally cause I find them hot. Similar to how I find his character hot. Yet, he's not the hero on the opposite spectrum. He's not the lowlife who was killed because people can't handle people from lower birth statuses being on the top chairs for making decisions - but that is also true - but is not the reason behind his tragedy. Not the sole reason and also not the most important reason.
The most important reason is as it is said: he believes himself to be different and values his life over others, similar to Xue Yang. Their personalities vary greatly, yet his "true" friends were Xue Yang and Su She. (He showed glimpses of the truth and of his reality to LXC. So, he's hiding the truth and LXC doesn't wish to dig deeper anyways thus not a true friendship.) One wished to take revenge in extremely unfair shares, a clan for a finger. A clan for a son. The entire cultivation world could die but he couldn't be badmouthed or put on trial or killed. The other - Su She, wished to be recognized by those who he equally hated, despised and considered arrogant and also was jealous and envious of. So, these two traits - great desire for revenge onto everyone who's ever said anything mean about him, and the desire for power. You may argue how this developed from his childhood trauma but you can't argue that this justifies his cold blooded crimes because it doesn't. Another thing I'd like to add is that, his friendship with Lan Xichen also shows his personality; not wanting to take the messy, big path (such as showing up to your own death planning party, or planning a death party) and his relatively calm nature. Yet just like the friendship it is fragmented and fake; a composure that is stuck onto the cold, and hot brimming desire for power.
There was one character who had to kill a large number of people or would have no other option left and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who was hated by society solely because of his background and his desire to protect people and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who had to give up everything for what he believed in and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who ended up being the indirect reason for the passing of loved siblings due to the unjust society.
and it wasn't Jin Guangyao.
(but there were two characters who had confirmed sex before marriage. one of them was Jin Guangyao)

I'm also having wine, Salud! Now that we've had some time to digest episode 6 of the Monuments doc (did you see it?) do you have any thoughts regarding the scene and set up inside Jimin’s kitchen? Did it strike you as odd that we got a scene there at all?? That JK was there? That they decided to set it up and that the scene became (or was set up to be) a moment to talk about Jimin’s depression as remarked by an unnamed 'friend'?

I did watch it! I admit I’m one of those that shares a family members’ account and so was able to watch all the episodes when they aired.
Jimin’s Place
I don’t really know how to feel about Jimin and Jungkook having a parts of the episode together at Jimin’s place. It did feel weird because Jimin in particular had until recently not shown use even the edges of his TV! Us loosing it over his billboard number 1 live and seeing a chair?! Then the live with his house tour?? I still don’t believe that was not a dream
All I can say is it’s Jimin’s place and if he allowed the cameras in, in 2022, when this was filmed then he was comfortable enough. He had confidence in the show showing what he felt comfortable with showing. Jin, Hobi, Jungkook & Yoongi didn’t show their places, so if he didn’t want to, I’m sure he wouldn’t have to.
What was the reason 🗣️
I kinda felt like the whole point of the show was to continue the mantra of Bangtan, that they love ARMY and they love each other, among other things.
I found it crazy sus that they showed the members as a whole unit and they showed them as individuals but the only two they showed in different setting was Jikook, not just cooking, drinking, talking and eating together but also making music together, with the parts of the recording of ‘Letter’ being shown.’
It was soo hard to ignore though!! They literally had Yoongi eating chicken alone, Namjoon cleaning his place alone, Tae chilling in his place and eating alone but Jikook cooking together, eating together, laughing together, being introspective and honest in front of each other.
What does it meeaaaannnn?!
The same way it’s being drummed into our heads that BTS love performing, love ARMY, love each other and are also individuals…I feel like it was also being drummed into our heads the reality of the closeness of Jikook?
That one can call the other over and they spend time together and do thing none group/work related. BUT that they also can rely on each other in anyway work related, including solo works. That there is nothing not accessible to each other when it comes to Jikook?
Jungkook has access to Jimin’s home, kitchen and also studio sessions during their solo careers, that Jimin can call on him and give him that access, that it’s mutual?
I mean we not only have this from the Monuments show, we have their companionship enlistment and the ‘coming soon’ Jimin & Jungkook show. It’s like neon signs on the closest duo in the group, at least to me. I LIVE! I LOVE IT! I can’t wait for more of it, however Jikook want to give it to us.
The ‘Friend’
In regards to the ‘friend’ that Jimin speaks about in his story, the one he had a little fight with, that he went to help move the next day and said he thought Jimin might be depressed. I personally don’t think it was Jungkook.
For me, it’s just because I don’t see the need to think that Jikook are each other’s only friends and only people they know. We know Jimin is a very loyal and loving friend. We know that he has friends that aren’t famous as well as those that are. Him not mentioning the name of his friend and just referring to them as ‘friend’ may not have been due to him ‘hiding in plain sight’ with Jungkook but more like just protecting the privacy of a non-celeb friend OR a celeb friend.
If Jimin wanted to say ‘Jungkookie and I were having a drink the other day and talking’ he could have, it would have been no different than him saying how Jungkook came to his hotel room several times day or night, multiple times on live and on the PTD DVDs. No different than him talking and drinking with Jungkook there in camera.
I do feel like Jungkook had heard the story before, but not because Jungkook was the friend in question, but because Jikook are close and talk to each other and Jimin would most likely have told Jungkook about this around the time it happened.

people throw around the word arrogant a lot when talking about wei wuxian post war which i think is funny because it implies that wwx had an exaggerated sense of self, like he thought himself better than his peers and the rest of the cultivation world. similar to how su she thinks lan wangji is arrogant. but like… most of wwxs arrogance from that time was a performance so no one could question why couldn’t do anything a typical spiritual cultivator could do, which was be even more noticeable for someone who had been as powerful as wwx. ALSO wwx really was that powerful, he wasn’t exaggerating his own talents or abilities, he could back them up (ie phoenix mountain and the blindfolded archery) wwx is incredibly confident in himself and knows exactly what he’s capable of.
i see people using the scene where wwx interrupts othe jin sect banquet while looking for the wen remnants as an example of his “arrogance” a lot when… that’s a poor way of reading this scene.
wwx first asks jin zixun to talk alone and when he makes it very clear he’s not even gonna humour wwx, wwx starts to get angry. jin guangshan adds fuel to the fire when he realised that jzx is making a fool out of himself and wwx is perfectly respectable when talking to him, even letting him know that he owes those wens a life debt, hence why he wants to help them. jgs continues to insist that wwx join the banquet and put aside the matter. when wwx declines and once again asks for him to resolve the issue jgs instead tries to blackmail wwx into giving up by mentioning the yin tiger tally and wwx finally runs out of patience.
and even after All of that wwx doesn’t truly snap until he points out the hypocrisy of the cultivation sects because they have allowed renegade clans from qishan who surrendered during the war to attend the banquet they’re all at while also preaching that anyone with the surname wen is guilty. it’s only then that he begins to threaten them and it’s clear he only does it bc he realises that debating will get him no where, that they’re shameless in their preconceived ideas of righteousness and wwx can’t afford to waste time fighting with them on logistics.
i just think labelling this scene as “wwx being an arrogant asshole who thinks he can do whatever he wants” is literally the Opposite of how you’re supposed to read it. like mdzs is a critique on mob mentality and people really think siding with the Mob during scenes like this is the correct interpretation

this day in 2012 little sky was bored and decided to turn on her laptop and checked some kpop forums (after a few years I realised that these forums were sasaengs forums. this is the only explanation for why they have so much information, especially about a group that hasn't debuted yet.. at that time I think it was quite ~common~ to share these information, but those were different times, now we see how wrong that was.) until she read one about the new group that was about to debut. she was literally mesmerized by everything she was reading and seeing there. while humming 소녀시대 '소녀시대' she decided to research more about this new group and the members, a new group that seemed like it would bring something very interesting and new to the world of kpop. she spent the last few days of 2012 literally doing just that. then she found more things about namjoon, then jin. at this point she was already obsessed. she would come home from school and immediately go to see if they had posted more about them, more videos. then in 2013 almost close to them debuting she found out about the other members and found out about jeongguk. and omg......... there she knew that he had chosen her and she had chosen him. 🥺 lmao let me stop talking about myself like that 🥹
the part below is hard to share and may trigger some people, so please don't read if it will trigger you. (I'm going to talk about depression and not wanting to live anymore) but I want to share a little more of what bangtan did in my life with you guys. maybe I'll delete it later lmao.
2012 was a very hard year for me. at the age of 12 I was already diagnosed with depression. I was very much a person who didn't like life, I didn't like living. in 2012 I was diagnosed with "su* c *dal depression". I didn't even know this term existed, but I was hospitalized in 2012 because my doctors said I needed to have someone watching me for 24 hours. finding out about bangtan was really a lifesaver for me. I really needed this distraction. I really needed something that would make me disconnect a little from what I was going through. a lifesaver, that's what they were for me and my life. bangtan has no idea how much they helped me, how much they saved me, how much they were my friends when I needed it most. I never cared about these holidays at the end of the year but since 2012, holidays at the end of the year have become something so special for me and so emotional too. I will always remember this moment and how grateful I am for it. and no matter how old I am, I will be 60 years old and I will still be grateful for everything bangtan has done in my life. I will always be grateful for finding them when I needed them most and for them existing. the positive impact they had on my life and still has will always shock me. because they are people who don't even know me but they helped me so much, often much more than these people who did. thank you so much for bangtan existing. thank you so much for each member and for everything they did for me without even knowing me, and for being my lifesaver. ♡
