finally begin to slow,

and then i saw him.

the unreachable

made reachable,

before me.

“everything okay?”

he mouthed.

i laughed,

he smiled,

my eyes

never leaving his.

i didn’t ever want to forget

the way they made me feel.

when i awoke,

he was gone,

but not without giving me

something real:

always fighting or dying.
