a lot of the coverage of the Palestinian genocide is focusing on the US student protests and the narrative is constantly in danger of shifting away from what the protests are actually about and a lot of the language is now speaking in terms of police brutality, silencing of free speech, etc. It's not a radical thing to say that this isn't exactly helpful to the Palestinian cause if the actual reasons for the protests aren't constantly front and center. A lot of people have already made this point. I do not think the genie can necessarily be put back in the bottle with how the protests and the police reaction to them are entering the public consciousness of the USian people. A lot of people are or will become aware of these protests through the lense of these simply being instances of police brutality, and police brutality is a critical issue that many USamericans are very passionate about thus making it difficult to reframe the context of these images of police slamming white professors into pavement towards awareness of Israels decades long illegal occupation and systematic and indiscriminate displacement and murder of Palestinians. What I feel needs to be done is try to reframe these images flooding the internet not *away* from issues of police brutality and homesoil fascism, but in the wider context of imperialist governments taking the lessons they learn oppressing "foreign peoples" and turning them inwards. That police brutality is not disconnected from imperialist mass murder. That the one thing connecting the assaulted USian protester and the trans israeli denied gender affirming care for refusing to serve in the fascist Israeli military and the Palestinian child buried alive for the crime of being Palestinian... the one thing connecting them is that, sooner or later, they are all victims of power. Our rights are granted to us inequitably, unevenly, and are just as quickly stripped away when we do not serve the interests of fascist power. We are either a tool of the state or an enemy of the state. The Palestinian, not the innocent or the guilty but the human being Palestinian, is murdered because she can not be useful to the state while she is still breathing. She can never have the "privilege" of being a tool. I'll say it again: We outside of Palestine who can go to protests, who have families, who are able bodied, who can work, who can keep their head down or speak without immediate retaliation have the "honor" of choosing to be a tool of the state or an enemy of the state. The Palestinian has no choice.
There will always be an armed cop ready to arrest you and kill your brother as long as there is a bomb ready to drop on the heads of Palestinian children. Fascism trickles up and inward.

DON'T WANNA BREAK UP AGAIN
Tumblr media
"But you didn't even try.
When you finally did, it was at the wrong time.
Won't abandon me again for you and I.”
Tumblr media
cw: angst, unhealthy relationship dynamics. can be read as a oneshot.
a/n: quote from 'don't wanna break up again'. maybe the beginning is too dramatic idk. MASTERLIST — part one
PALESTINE MP, DAILY CLICK, DON'T BUY TLOU
Tumblr media
Your palms tightly gripped the window handles, pushing the panels open in an almost frantic manner as you desperately tried to slow down your heartbeat. Leaning against the windowsill, you inhaled deeply, although the oxygen seemed unable to reach your lungs. You tried again.
Take a deep breath, close your eyes, stop fidgeting with your hands. Look outside.
The morning was warm; little birds merrily sang together, batting their feathered wings in the air— you couldn't hear them. Couldn't catch Ellie's frustrated sighs behind you, either. You could only hear your own voice inside your head, trying to self soothe.
Two nightingales chased each other, with their broad tails and brown plumes, so carefree in their existence. In that moment, you wished you could be like them.
After one last inhale, you turned around to face Ellie. Her pleading orbs searched your unreadable ones as she apprehensively waited for you to say something, anything.
She eventually took it upon herself to break the silence. "I'm trying."
"I know." Your voice came out as nothing more than a whisper, too exhausted to sound any different. And you did know— that's what made it so difficult.
She'd started slipping through your fingers months ago, like warm sand— every miniscule grain falling from your hands as you desperately tried to catch it. Until the only thing left was a handful of what was previously abundant.
She slipped away every time you got into a fight and she erected a wall made of hard stones and even harder stares to separate herself from you; every time she averted her gaze from your pained features in faux cluelessness. She didn't know how to comfort you when you were upset at her, and although she initially tried, her attempts slowly became less frequent. She couldn't stand to see you so broken, so she turned her head the other way— guilt and shame clawing at her heart.
Still, you stayed. Maybe out of love, maybe out of desperation. You held onto the hope that she'd get better. She can fix this, you kept repeating to yourself, over and over again.
You couldn't give up, because if you did, where would that leave you? You wouldn't be able to survive having your safety net being snatched from beneath you; you couldn't jump into the darkness in hopes you'd land somewhere safe, unscratched.
You needed her love, needed her affection to tower over the cracks in your soul and hide them in the shadows so no one could see them, not even yourself. You needed her to fill those gaps with her love, to make you whole.
For a long while, she did exactly that. A gift from the universe, an angel from the heavens— that's what she was to you.
Your angel grew horns.
Her tongue split in two and became twice as sharp. She mended your wounds, whilst simultaneously opening new ones.
The regret that followed those excruciating moments tricked you into believing that was the last time something similar would happen. She promised time and time again to be better. Her honeyed whispers and tender caresses distracted you from the worries she was causing you.
Nonetheless, a sour aftertaste was left in your mouth.
It grew stronger and stronger until it was too overwhelming to ignore. Her comforting embraces started to feel suffocating— like an eight-limbed monster that, once it realized your impatience was increasing, kept you from finding your freedom.
The creature held you close and kissed you better, it swore changes you'd never come to see, and even cried in your arms in a fit of self-loathing and guilt.
Because the creature wasn't a monster. It was a girl— complex, troubled, sad. But she was also caring, gentle, determined. And you loved her so fervently, despite every hardship she constantly put you through.
You loved her, and you loved how she made you feel. But love wasn't enough.
Day after day, the idea that maybe you'd be fine even without her shifted to the forefront of your mind. Every fight pushed you one step closer to the window. One step, two steps, three, five, ten— until you were standing right in front of it, eyes swimming in the blue sky.
Like a bird that was finally let out of its cage, you flew away.
You knew she was trying to mend the situation, but it was too late now. It was unsalvageable.
Ellie was aware of that, she tightly gripped your forearms when you hugged her goodbye, reluctant to let you go despite knowing that it was the best decision for both of you.
You exchanged one last kiss, wet with tears and as tender as the first touches you'd once shared.
She watched you fly away. Then she wept.

Batkids Hobby Headcanons
Dick - Gymnastics is the most obvious one. When he was younger, Bruce initially didn't want him to compete in competitions, or even join a team, because Dick would have an "unfair advantage". However, he eventually gave in and allowed him to join the school's team. Another hobby he has is baking. In most cases, he is forbid from the kitchen, however he is a fantastic baker. He is also very good at making fantastic stews, which Alfred has even claimed to be better than his own.
Jason - He's a literature nerd, with a particular love for the classics; Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte are his favorite authors. However, we all know Jason is a theater kid at heart. He did every school play at Gotham Academy, and though he hasn't acted in anything since his resurrection, he still goes to local theaters with Alfred fairly often. He's also a fantastic cook, and the only person in Wayne Manor (other than Alfred) to never receive any sort of kitchen ban.
Tim - Photography is Tim's favorite hobby. His first camera was one of the most meaningful presents from his parents when he was younger, winning several photography competitions. He hasn't indulged as often since becoming a vigilante. Barbara still keeps him on-call as her blackmail collector though, which he does happily. He's also into skateboarding, finding skate parks to be a nice escape when he needs time alone. Many of his photo shoots occurred at the skate parks, for very emotionally charged urban photography. Other than those, he likes disassembling things to see how they work. This destructive hobby was punished and frowned upon when he was younger, but when Bruce discovered that Tim enjoyed taking things apart, would start leaving things around for him to play with, like old microwaves, or failed bat-projects. Tim also loves comic books, of which he has an impressive collection.
Damian - Art is something Ra's looked down upon, calling it "weak" and "insubstantial in society". However, it was still something Damian enjoyed, so he had to keep his hobby a secret. He was terrified Bruce would kick him out, when he found the sketchbooks hidden in Damian's room, however Bruce just asked if there were any supplies Damian wanted. He's still a bit self conscious of his art, but he is more open, giving paintings to his family as gifts, and even entering in an art show. He still has a fascination with knives from his time with the League of Assassins, and enjoys collecting ones that interest him, particularly vintage knives, and unique knives made out of unconventional materials, or those with intricate designs. Jon was the one to get him into video games, which he denies enjoying, but the hours he's put into Cheese Viking would say otherwise.
Cass - Ballet was one of the first things she fell in love with after being adopted. It was so similar to how she was raised-people talking with their bodies-but without the violence she so loathed. She easily convinced Bruce to sign her up for classes, and for once, it was something she could do, to communicate with people in a way she knew well. Another interest she picked up was astrology. It was something fun that she didn't necessarily believe in, but was a comfortable guidance. Damian hand painted her a custom tarot deck, and she has a small collection of crystals she finds pretty. Zatanna has offered to enchant some of them for her, but Cass declined the offer, saying that giving them actual magic enchantments removes the aspect of belief that she found comforting. She understood that the black tourmaline necklace Bruce bought her wouldn't actually keep her safe, but it gave her comfort, and a sense of safety, especially because it was a gift from her dad. (author's note: I don't actually know that much about astrology, tarot, and crystals, so if anyone wants to add to this and give a more realistic description of how it works, I would love to see it)
Steph - similar to Dick, she is a gymnast, though not quite at Dick's level. She is also into martial arts and has taken a few classes in Taekwondo and Boxing, and whatever other free classes were being offered at the community center. Cartoons and anime are pretty big interests, as well as video games. She often jumps around from hobby to hobby, and has several miscellaneous skills in a little bit of everything. (author's note: a lot of Steph I based off of myself. She's a character I relate a lot to, so a lot of myself is projected into her. Her height and weight being one of them. However, that was also because DC doesn't seem to know what a human woman looks like, because most of the female characters in the Batfamily are 5'4" or 5'5", and around 120 lbs, including Steph. So I just borrowed by height and weight from highschool, when I was at peak physical fitness, at the gym 4 times a week, and doing 2 sports, once meeting 2 times a week and the other meeting 3 times a week. That would place her at 5'8" and 155lbs, which is far more reasonable for an active vigilante. rant over). She also feels like the kind of person who would be into scrapbooking. Most of her pictures are stolen from Tim, and the pages are brightly colored with fun stickers and glitter.
Duke - he gives off the vibe of a soccer player. However, because of his focus on school and crime fighting, he just plays for the rec team. It's a fun activity that he can enjoy when he was time, and also use to explain away his fitness level and injuries. He's also a huge movie buff, enjoying to analyze every aspect of the film, from the characters, to the camera work, to the framing of each scene. He isn't as interested in making his own movies, but gets very into it when he does. Quentin Tarantino is his favorite filmaker, however Damian has stared getting him into foreign films as well.

All the batlads/robins relationship with Bruce is different.
Nightwing!Jason cares about Bruce Wayne, but is also on the fence about Batman.
Red hood!Damian hates Bruce Wayne as a father but respects Batman's ideals after accepting that he is going to be true to them (even if it costs him his sons life)
Flamebird!Dick loves Bruce as a father and looks up to Batman (his second favorite vigilante after Nightwing)
Batlad!Tim has no feelings for Bruce but respects the original Batman but in his heart Damian is his version of Batman.
Robin!Steph respects both Bruce and Batman.

Idk about you but CNN and news outlets calling students occupiers for peacefully protesting for divestments of a colony state that is currently occupying Palestine and murdering it civilians, attacking infrastructure and hospitals, while commiting genocide is insane.
"But but the protests make it hard for the students to learn it's disruptive!" People will say shit like this when Palestinians can't even learn or live a normal life because they are being bombed, killed, and starved of essential resources needed to live. Their schools have been bombed and destroyed and yet we have people complaining about a peaceful protests wanting to put an end to any investments that support this genocide and destruction. CNN, major news outlets, and campus faculty members calling the police on students should be ashamed for what they have done.
With some good news though student protestors got Brown University to hold a vote on whether they should divest soon in exchange for dropping the encampment. Students have said that they will still organize to make sure they vote to divest from Israel though but the main point is that protesting students managed to force a vote on this. Protests work and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

i hope that the discussion about student protests does not get reduced to "privileged rich kids faffing around at an ivy league school." setting aside that tenuous claim, over the last week, protests have erupted over the entire country. a few days ago, riot police beat, pepper-sprayed, and arrested NYU faculty shielding students; protests started at the university of southern california when the admin cancelled the valedictorian's speech; encampments appeared at the university of southern carolina, UT dallas, the university of maryland, the university of new mexico, IUPUI, virginia tech, the university of virginia, the university of illinois, the university of north carolina — chapel hill, the university of pittsburgh, uc berkeley, the university of michigan — ann arbor, MIT, emerson, tufts, the university of rochester, rice, swarthmore, the new school, vanderbilt university, with students arrested; students protested or walked out at miami university, northwestern, temple, the 5 claremont colleges: pomona, pitzer, scripps, harvey mudd, and claremont mckenna, stanford, washington university in st louis, students were arrested at ohio state, students were confronted by riot police at cal poly humboldt, after which they occupied campus, students were arrested at the university of minnesota — twin cities, after which faculty walked out; and yes, there are protests at the other ivies, most notably yale, with students facing mass arests after encampments, but there is also an encampment at brown, protests appeared at cornell, princeton faculty issued a statement of solidarity while students are preparing an encampment, and harvard banned the undergraduate palestine solidarity committee. there are thousands of students who are protesting for palestine across the entire country, facing harassment, arrest, and suspension in return

Brown University is doing everything they can to make sure the press doesn’t cover the fact that 19 of their students are on hunger strike calling for Brown to divest from weapons manufacturers. Let’s make sure the story gets out:

finished reading thru The Hundred Years' War On Palestine: A History of Settler Colonial Conquest and Resistance by Rashid Khalidi and I cannot recommend it enough. A lot of people and, very likely, the average person not completely blinded by Islamophobia and/or USamerican/European/British exceptionalism are probably at least moderately sympathetic to the Palestinian cause but I don't know how many of us actually understand the degrees by which Israel is based in settler colonial ideology, how it has continually attempted to subjugate and ultimately eradicate the Palestinian people, and the degree by which the US and Britain (but mostly the US ever since the Six Day War in 1967) have been complicit in this continual genocide.
This book is an amazing comprehensive guide on understanding the conflict and I genuinely think you should give it a read (or listen) if you want to learn more. It is one thing to feel sympathy and to declare support for a cause, but I think it is important to take a step further and educate yourself more on it. A ploy I have seen frequently by zionists is to tell people to "educate themselves" before commenting on this genocide, hoping to instill doubt and encourage silence. Well, here is your chance to educate yourself! I'm obviously biased in favor of this one as it is the first major text on the Palestinian genocide that I have read, but I fully believe in its quality.
You can find this book online in PDF format or, if you prefer, you can purchase a physical copy from many of the large retail bookstores; Barnes & Noble in the US sells it, and so does Waterstones in the UK. There is also an official audiobook that you can either purchase through many of the major audiobook distributors (though I recommend avoiding Amazon if it can be helped), but you can also obtain it via other means if necessary. It's actually currently up on YouTube in its entirety, though I won't link it here in case it gets taken down. (It's really easy to search for, just type in the books title + 'audiobook' into your preferred search engine or on YouTube itself and you'll find it. It's about 10 hours long which is a reasonable length for an audiobook). I'll include a link in this post to an overview/lecture/dialogue with the author Rashid Khalidi on the contents of the book conducted at Brown University in 2020.
I do ask you read this book. I think a lot of people already are. I checked a couple of online libraries that have a limited number of audiobook copies that had all been checked out and that to me implies that people do want to educate themselves. There's a sizeable stack of these books at the local bookstore I ocassionally shop at, front and center on the table in the history and world affairs section. It's not hard to find. I hope you all have a good day or evening and I know that if we all take the time to educate ourselves further and approach this genocide with a deeper understanding, we may be able to do something about it. Emotional pleas are not enough, they must be informed ones as well.

Here’s the thing about Hobie
And I say this from a place of love.
Hobie is a dork.
Is he the coolest Spiderperson in the movie? Yes, by 1000%. Am I obsessed with him? Also 1000%. But he’s very, very Spider-dork.
Punk is an extremely flexible identity/philosopohy/belief system, and living it out is very different from being perceived as “punk.” To convince others you are “punk” you have to perform it effectively. Hobie’s world is a post capitalist hellscape, an anarchist dystopia, like the garbage strike in the 1970s that birthed punk in the first place, and he’s a punk because that’s an important and necessary way to be resiliant in his own universe.
But when he’s with the other spiders? He’s just playing. He’s funny. He’s inconsistant. He’s a goofball. He goes for obvious punchlines about Mayday. He’s just as much of a science nerd as any of them, but he lets them underestimate his scientific abilities so that he can rip shit off the wall and repurpose it while they all ignore the disruptor because that’s just Hobie, wrecking the place.
Tumblr media
He realizes Miguel is dangerously full of rage before anyone else in HQ and as he watches what Miles goes through he is creating and evolving his escape plan. He uses the persona to convince everyone that he’s just obstinate and stupid, but his smart little spider mind is humming away under that fabulous head of hair, breaking everything down.
He’s also extremely community minded, which isn’t part of what outsiders see as punk but is absolutely what being an effective Spider is all about. (it’s also what real world punks are like but nvm.) Even though he seems like he’s not interested in being part of the squad, he shows up to help. He gives Gwen a place to crash (and i think it was platonically). His first words to Miles are advice to empower him (”use the whole hand”) because he’s the friendly neighbourhood Spider Man still. He’s got his cool jacket and his cool guitar and his cool hair and he uses all of those to hide. He watches all of them carefully and decides in advance who is worthy of his loyalty, and then he’s all in.
Like all the Spiders, he’s going to save everyone and he’s going to do both and he’s going to think of something no one has ever done before. Because that’s punk rock, bb.
