For a little while longer, you stare out the window. People watching has always been one of your favorite activities, so you can’t help but analyze the passerby as they make their way across the various Pilgrim World attractions.
You sip your hot chocolate as you do so, your thumb unknowingly running across the numbers that the no longer mystery boy has written along the cup sleeve. You have yet to enter the digits into your phone, signifying the act of adding Xavier into your contact list. You have never seen someone act so bold, yet alone someone you can’t seem to keep your eyes off of.
Does he wanna be friends?
Is he interested in you?
Are you interested in him?
For the next hour or so you interchange these actions: gazing outside, doing a bit of homework, and trying your fucking best not to stare at Xavier as he dances around your table, wiping off other surfaces and interacting with the flow of Weathervane customers. You peek at him a few – too many – times, taking in the newfound persona that comes with your long awaited introductions.
Introductions…
“Cielos, ni siquiera le dije mi nombre,” you sigh quietly to yourself, “who taught me how to interact with people?”
You rest your forehead on the table beside your laptop, contemplating whether or not you should abandon all hope of progressing this new…friendship? You were sure that after Xavier realizes your lack in basic social skills and not-so-cool stature, the boy would probably move on to one of the other hundreds of girls you’re positive are fawning over him back at the academy.
“Is everything alright?”
Once again, the long-haired Nevermore boy has impeccable timing.
“Bell…”
“Hm?” He tilts his head as he eyes you with a questioning gaze.
“A bell,” you sigh and lift your head, “I’m going to buy you one so I have time to mentally prepare myself when you’re around,” you mumble, though loudly enough that he could hear every syllable. Losing the look of defeat etched across your face, you swiftly smile up at the boy towering over your hunched frame.
“Yes, everything is alright Xavier.”
He chuckles softly, acknowledging the fact that you called him by his name for the first time, before lightly shaking his head and walking off.
‘Can we circle back around to the Mother Teresa possibility, because there’s no way’ you think as you cross your arms along the table and drop your head back down with a groan.
Once deciding that the probability of you embarrassing yourself once more was higher than the probability of you having a normal evening while in Xavier’s presence, you decide to take a walk around the grounds.
Like you said before, you didn’t really enjoy learning about white heritage and the different flavors of fudge, but you would rather that than ruin whatever you have with Xavier before it even starts.
You visit a few of the Pilgrim World…attractions? They weren’t really attracting to you per se. After so many years the supposed “community event” is repetitive, and you swear the aura around the whole thing gets gloomier every year.
While wandering, you see various Nevermore students. Growing up in such a town, you’ve learned the different types of beings that live behind the school’s old walls, and you’ve gotten rather good at guessing who is what; a sort of special edition of your people watching interest.
There are two girls in pilgrim costumes: one with blacked out circular sunglasses balancing on the ridge of her nose, most likely a vampire, and another dark skinned girl with super bright eyes, who’s so alluring that you’re positive she’s a siren. You see a girl and boy together through the window of the town antique shop. The lumpy beanie covering the guy’s head makes it pretty obvious he’s a gorgon, but the girl doesn’t seem to give off any of the major power/creature stereotypes. You sit and ponder it for a minute, glancing at her colorful hair and bright nails, before taking the loss and continuing on.
You’re walking past the old pillories when you spot the same dark-haired girl from earlier, noticing that she’s wearing the black-clothed pilgrim get-up.
‘It oddly compliments her,’ you think as you watch her wipe down the shirt of a nerdy looking boy. She doesn’t look like the type to do the whole “helping hand” thing, so it’s quite intriguing to say the least.
You find out from one of your classmates who’s working that the jobs are divided into two separate shifts, one of them ending in about thirty minutes. You chat for a bit before making your way back to the cafe.
‘I definitely should not be doing this.’
You’ve been sitting on a bench outside of Weathervane, wondering whether you should actually go inside or just stay out here.
What you wanted to do was ask Xavier to walk around after his shift. This seemed like the perfect place to hang out for the first time: entertainment, food, things to talk about, and other people.
Heavy on other people. The more people around, the less likely you were to embarrass yourself…again…for like the fifth time.
‘If I go inside, I’ll probably end up blabbering about why I left, just to come back not even 2 hours later. If I stay outside, he’ll probably think I’m a creep who’s been peeping through the windows.’
Decisions, decisions.
‘Or option 3, I get up right now and pretend I was never here…yeah imma go with that one.’ You grab your bag and small pouch of fudge that you purchased – you said you didn’t like learning about it, not that it wasn’t delicious – and walk right past the door just as it opens.
“Funny seeing you here.”
You stop in your tracks, scrunching your face in a “the world hates me” type of manner before turning around.
“Oh yeah. I was just in the neighborhood. Small town, you know?” You shift back and forth on your feet as you come face to face with your outcast acquaintance for the first time, both of you standing at your full heights. “Gosh, you’re tall.”
“So I’ve been told,” he chuckles before nudging towards your bag of fudge, “I see you went exploring…find anything interesting?”
“Nope, pretty much the same as every year. Dead white guys, how dead white guys used to treat people slightly differently than them, and fudge that could probably give a small village their needed sugar intake,” you say and jostle the bag, “though I will admit my tia’s flan could do just about the same.”
He laughs, and all you could think about is how good of an alarm it would be.
‘Totally creepy Y/N, knock it off.’
You catch sight of the girl with the colorful hair just behind Xavier, and once again wonder what her whole ordeal is.
“Hey, so totally random,” you start and point your finger in the girl’s general direction, “you know people from your school right? Do you think you could tell me what her power is? The girl who looks like she’d eat cotton candy for its nutritional value.”
He turns around, glimpsing at the girl.
“That’s Enid. She’s a werewolf I believe. Why do you ask?”
“Oh, I was just guessing everyone’s abilities while walking around earlier and could not guess hers for the life of me.” You announce dramatically before smiling, noticing he’s smirking right back at you.
“Guessing abilities huh? Okay then, let’s see what you’ve got.” He makes a sweeping gesture towards the crowd mixed with normies and outcasts.
“Okay bet.”
After that, the flow of conversation becomes easy.
You start off with the ability guessing game, before making your way onto various topics ranging from the pilgrim world exhibits to a storytime about how you once got detention for eating flan in class.
“It wasn’t my fault! If anything, it was my teacher’s fault for making the class stay back 10 minutes from lunch because someone else was talking,” you exasperate, “I wouldn’t have had to eat it in class if I was given my allotted meal time.”
It seems as though the entire time, Xavier is staring at you. I mean yeah you’re having a conversation, and that would be proper etiquette, but still. He wasn’t just looking at you because you guys were talking, but he was actually attentive; taking in what you’re saying and staying engaged.
“You know, that’s the second time you’ve mentioned this flan. I might just have to try it one day.”
You smile up at him, feeling your face heat up at the simple fact that he has been listening to you this whole time. With how much you guys were talking, you hardly noticed how long you’ve been walking around.
“Do you wanna sit down for a bit? I think we’ve learned about every dead white guy who’s ever lived here,” he smiles softly and raises his eyebrows towards the same bench you were panicking on not too long ago.
‘Ay, it’s like he can read my mind. Literally what is happening right now.’
You take your previous seat, and he follows, sitting beside you. You glance around Pilgrim World, the crowds starting to dissipate as the day passes.
“You never guessed what my ability was,” Xavier says, looking straight ahead.
“I’m not really sure to be honest. I don’t think you transform into anything, and I’m sure you can’t read minds,” and you thank Jesus for that. “I’m thinking more of a physical ability. Maybe something creative? You have this whole…lone wolf artsy guy type of vibe going on,” you say and gesture towards him.
He’s silent for a moment.
‘Oh shit did I say something wrong?’
“It’s so easy to tell when you're internally panicking,” he drops his head with a chuckle before looking back at you, “you’re right though.”
“That wasn’t funny Xavier.” You push him with your shoulder and giggle a bit.
He raises his hands in a surrendering gesture before continuing.
“My bad, it’s just funny to see you all riled up and flustered.”
“Funny…” you say and side-eye him.
“Adorable, actually.”
Your face heats up.
“Anyways…so you’re into art? I remember seeing you at the store a few weeks ago and it looked like you were buying art supplies.”
“Surprised you could tell. You know, with you hiding behind your computer and everything.”
You give him a straight stare.
He lightly puffs out air before continuing with a grin, “I dabble in art a bit. I can sorta make my drawings move a bit? Like an animation sort of. It’s hard to explain.”
“You should show me sometime,” you say with no hesitation or regret. Hey, there’s a first time for everything.
He gives you a small nod and a “oh yeah, for sure” before glancing to the side. All the Nevermore students are starting to get together to leave back to campus.
You both stand and start taking slow steps towards the group. Xavier stops when you’re still a few feet away from everyone else and faces you.
“Text me, yeah? I wanna have your number so we can keep talking without having to randomly run into each other.”
You nod and wave him off, your cheeks left hurting from smiling for hours. You grab your phone from your back pocket, along with the cup sleeve that has the phone number written across it. You punch in the number, create a contact, and type a small message.

Xavier’s POV
I’m sitting in the back of the bus; glancing out the window as we drive past the town buildings, heading towards the forestry marking our descent to the academy. It’s only been a few minutes since I’ve left Pilgrim World when my phone vibrates in my lap: a message from an unknown number.
‘You know what sounds fantastic right now…flan - Y/N’
I chuckle quietly to myself, adding Y/N to my contacts before looking back out the window with a content sigh.

This is so much worse then the first one (I cannot do dialogue oml)...also I take it back I’m not gonna do a taglist bcs I realized how tiring it is to keep track of those once they get longer (but I tagged the few who asked already).
If I end up making a part 3, it will include the confession!
I no longer support Percy Hynes White and will no longer take request for Xavier Thorpe.

Bucky took in a deep breath upon entering the arena. It was buzzing with skaters and coaches, flitting around making sure they had all their things. It was completely different from the hockey tournaments he was used to.
Y/N nudged him, “Come on, let’s check in.” They stood in line at the check in table, waiting for their turn. The hour-long bus ride to the rink was uneventful. Y/N briefly introduced him to some of the other figure skaters and then put in her airpods for the rest of the ride. Bucky followed suit and tried to focus on keys to the day, a habit he picked up from hockey.
Once they were checked in, they dropped their things off at their designated area and settled in. They weren’t skating until later in the day so they had time to kill. Bucky followed Y/N around, as she seemed to know the ins and outs of the place. They picked up a few snacks and then sat in the stands to watch the individual competition.
They watched in silence at first, and Bucky found himself slowly growing amazed with the sport on display. Being on the ice and learning all the intricacies of figure skating made him respect these athletes so much more. He started asking Y/N questions about the other skaters, about the routines, and soon she started offering information without being asked.
But as the day progressed, he noticed her nervousness coming back. She twiddled her thumbs and played with the rings on her fingers. She wouldn’t make eye contact with him and she seemed a little vacant, lost in thought.
“Y/N, you okay?” he asked. She didn’t respond, twisting her ring around her middle finger and staring blankly ahead at the ice. “Y/N?” he tried again, turning towards her. He eventually placed his hand over her active digits.
She broke from her daze, turning towards him slowly. “You good?”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” she covered.
“You just zoned out completely.”
“Oh, sorry,” she said, directing her attention back towards the ice.
“Seriously, are you okay? You seem…jittery.”
“I’m fine, just eager to get on the ice. I don’t like all this…waiting around.”
“And blocking out your surroundings helps?” he asked.
She let out a small smile, “I go through the routine in my head, making sure I have every move and turn memorized.”
“You know that routine forwards and backwards.”
“I know, sometimes I just have to remind myself.”
“If anyone should be nervous, it should be me,” he joked.
She gave him a small smile and replied, “Yeah but you don’t care as much. The stakes aren’t as high for you.”
“I care!” he feigned offense.
She sighed, trying to find the best way to explain it. “This is like…the first round of the playoffs. Where all your hard work comes down to one game.”
“Well, the playoffs are usually a series.”
“Okay, then this is game seven of the playoffs. So think about how you feel in those moments leading up to the game. That’s how I feel right now.” He contemplated her words for a moment and she added, “And in this hypothetical scenario, the backup goalie is starting.”
He looked at her with a look of disbelief, “Am I the backup goalie?” She nodded with a tight smile. “Well I will be the backup goalie that stuns everyone by allowing zero goals.”
She chuckled, “I like the sound of that. Now come on, let’s get ready.”
As they prepared for the competition, Bucky became more and more nervous. Y/N kept her headphones in, preparing mentally for her ice time. Bucky mostly sat around and watched the competition as Y/N did her hair and make up. Soon she brought over his costume and instructed him to change as she did the same.
As Bucky walked into the changing area he realized he had made a mistake. He never actually looked at the costume that had been provided to him until now.
“Oh God,” he muttered to himself. Y/N stayed true to her word, there was no glitter, but that didn’t make things much better. He grumbled as he changed and he stood in front of the mirror for a while, trying to make the best of this situation. He was clad in very tight black pants. Very tight. They were at least stretchy, which made it possible to move, but he couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable at the attention his crotch was drawing.
And then there was the top. It was a blouse and it was royal blue, which he normally wouldn’t mind. But this top had a deep v-neck and a dramatic collar. The shirt was tight on his chest and his bicep, but the sleeves were puffy. No matter how he shifted the shirt around, he had more chest exposed than he was used to. He shook his head, unable to look at his ridiculous appearance anymore and he walked out.
Y/N turned toward him when he walked out. Unlike him, she looked amazing in the skin tight blue fabric. A small smile spread across her face.
“Don’t say it.”
She shook her head, smile still present, “I wasn’t going to say anything.”
He looked at her with an unamused expression, “I look like Fabio.” Y/N turned her head away and placed her hand over her mouth, hiding her amusement.
“I think you look great,” she eventually said. “It’s…a little tight, but…”
“A little tight? Look at these pants!”
“Your legs are…very muscular.”
“And this top? How is it completely molded to my skin except for the sleeves?” He held his arm out, displaying the extreme drape of the sleeve.”
She bit her bottom lip, “I’m sorry. I was trying to keep it simple.”
“Next time I’m picking out my own clothes.”
“Next time?”
“Well yeah. The plan is to win today, isn’t it?”
Tumblr media
Bucky found himself pacing, growing more nervous as the minutes ticked down until they were scheduled to skate. Y/N seemed eerily calm. She finished up her hair and makeup and casually checked the time.
“Calm yourself James,” she instructed, not bothering to look up at him as she packed up her vanity.
“Any tips?”
“Breathing is a good start.” He didn’t take her advice, continuing with his steps. Once Y/N was all packed up, she stood and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey,” she said, breaking his rhythm. “Look at me. Breeeeathe. Deep breath in,” she stated, demonstrating. He followed her lead. “And out…” she exhaled. “If this were a hockey game, what would you do?”
“Listen to some music to hype me up.”
Y/N rifled through her backpack until she found what she was looking for. She placed her airpods in his hand.
“Here. You have five minutes. Then we need to get skates on.” He gave her a grateful smile as he put the buds into his ears and searched for the right songs to get his head into the competition.
He sat there, with his eyes closed and the music blaring into his ears. He shut out everything else and mentally went through the routine in his head. He only hoped he could execute the moves to the best of his ability. He kept thinking about his coach’s words in his head. All he had to do was make her look good, and she looked good all on her own.
He felt a tap on his shoulder and he opened his eyes to find a pair of bright green eyes staring back at him. He took the earbuds out and handed them to her.
“Ready?” she asked. He nodded. She sat down next to him and the two of them laced up their skates.
“Sharon, she’s usually my biggest competition, and her partner dropped her on the ice. So all we need is a halfway decent score and we should be in good shape.” He nodded silently, taking in her words. “So don’t you dare drop me,” she added, with a smile. He stood and gave her a hand, pulling her up towards him, “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
They stood at the entrance to the ice as the announcers called their names. Y/N gave Bucky’s hand a quick squeeze and said, “You ready?” He merely nodded and she gave him a small smile, “Let’s do this.”
Tumblr media
Bucky would’ve loved to say the routine went off without a hitch, but that would be a lie. He fumbled through a few of the moves and he felt like his skating wasn’t as smooth as he would’ve liked but other than that things went pretty well.
As they stepped off the ice he immediately turned to Y/N and said, “I’m sorry, I know I messed up some of the spins.”
She turned toward him with a smile and replied, “But you didn’t drop me.”
“I’m a man of my word.”
She continued walking to view the scores that would be present moments later. Y/N stood there, eyes fixated on the screen that reflected the scores and standings. Bucky knew nothing about how the scores worked so he was watching her, waiting for her reaction. The screen changed and he saw her eyes widen and a moment later she was throwing her arms around his neck.
He was taken aback but he quickly adjusted and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Did we do okay?” he whispered in her ear.
“We’re in second!”
“Really!?” He hadn’t expected them to do that well. She released her grip on his neck and regained her composure.
“Sorry, I just didn’t expect to score that well,” she gushed.
“It was all you, I just did the bare minimum.”
“I think you did great for your first competition,” she added.
“So, has everyone skated?”
“There’s still a handful more to go but no one I’m worried about.”
“You think we’ll stay in the silver slot?”
“I feel good about it,” she smiled. “Come on, let’s get you out of that costume.”
He let out a sigh of relief as they walked back to the changing area. Bucky grabbed his clothes and slid behind the changing curtain while Y/N waited.
As Bucky was changing, he heard Y/N talking to someone, it was a voice he didn’t recognize. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop but he couldn’t help but overhear.
“Y/N! You were amazing out there!”
“Thank you Nat!”
“I’m glad to see you back out there after Colin’s injury.”
“Yeah, it all worked out.”
“How are things with the new partner? What’s his name?”
“His name is James and things are going better than I expected. He’s a hockey player, never figure skated before, so he’s still working some of the kinks out.”
“Well he’s the first partner I’ve seen you with that you actually have chemistry with.”
Y/N chuckled, “Why, because he’s not gay?”
“Well that definitely helps. But it’s more that he’s not fighting you for the spotlight. He doesn’t care about the attention, he’s just there to make you look better.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that…” Y/N said.
“Watch the footage of your routine and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Anyway, just wanted to say you looked great out there!”
“Thanks Nat,” Y/N replied. As their conversation ended, Bucky emerged from the changing area clad in the comfort of his street clothes.
“Better?” Y/N asked him.
“Much better,” a smile of relief evident on his face. Y/N changed into a tracksuit and the two walked back into the stands to watch the end of the competition. There were only a few more duos left to skate until the standings would be locked in. Y/N and Bucky held a decent lead in the second place spot and it appeared that things were going to stay that way.
“Hey, you were great out there today,” she said very casually to Bucky.
“It wasn’t perfect-” he started.
“I never expected you to be perfect. You learned an incredibly difficult and technical routine in a matter of weeks. Do you understand how impressive that is?”
“Well, I had a great teacher.”
“I know I was a little unfair to you during training but I really appreciate you taking this seriously. When Uncle Erik said he had a hockey player for me, I was admittedly a little concerned. But you’ve been a pleasant surprise.”
“Is it bad if I say that it’s kind of been fun?”
She gave him a coy look, “Oh yeah? You're gonna give up hockey to be my partner permanently?”
“Well I don’t know about that…but this is a new challenge for me. It’s something different.”
“I still have time to change your mind,” she winked at him.
The competition drew to a close and, as she expected, they retained their spot in second place. Which meant they would move to the next round. Y/N watched as they showed the highlights of their routine on the big screen. Watching it play out in front of her, she understood what Natasha meant. Bucky wasn’t out there, performing with flash to try and win over the crowd. He was focused on the routine, sharing looks with her instead of the fans, and setting her up to shine with the big jumps.
“Is it just me or does my skating look worse on the big screen?” he whispered in her ear.
She shook her head, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. It looks like a beautiful performance to me.”
He had the perfect response but instead he kept it to himself: The most beautiful thing about that routine is you.

You know what I mean, we both do Luv
Indeed we do Luv, indeed we do
March is finally upon us! And so starts the beginning of NPC Month! LET’S GOOOOOO!
Nothing More Valuable
Gilmore & Child!Reader
Set some time after Wild Surge
It’s almost hard for you to believe that just a few months ago you were actually adopted, and not by just any random person either, but one of the best shop owners in existence, a one Shaun Gilmore. Some mornings you’d wake up half expecting it all to have been a dream and are always thankful to realize it wasn’t. Today proved a little different when you wake up feeling a little stuffy in the head, part of you wanting to just roll over and go back to bed, and you almost would it not for the knocking at your door.
“(Y/n), you awake? Or shall I come back later.” You hear Gilmore on the other side of the door. You stretch and sniffle as you climb out of bed and open the door for him, being greeted by his smiling face. “Ahh, there you are. Ready for the day as much as I am?”
“Almost,” you say with a small yawn, “just need to get dressed and clean up a little.” You return the smile and he nods.
“Then I’ll leave you to it. But do be quick, I have a special task for you today.” Gilmore says as he closes the door. Hearing you had a special task perks you up a bit, though your head still feels stuffy you choose to ignore that as you hurry to get ready for the day and rush out of your room.
“I’m done!” You announce with a proud smile.
“Ah, glorious!” Gilmore beams back walking over to you. “Now, are you ready for that special task?” You nod eagerly, stopping when there’s a minor dizzy feeling rattling around your head, note to self don’t be too eager. Gilmore chuckles and hands you a slip of paper alongside a bag of gold. “I’ll be holding a special sale soon and I’d like for you to grab the items on the list for me while I prepare the finer details at the shop.”
“You mean I get to go to around the market all by myself!?” You look to him excitedly.
“I do, you’ve learned the layout enough and I’m confident in your abilities.” He reassures, finding your excited bouncing amusing.
“I won’t let you down.” You salute him, as if you were a solider assigned a serious mission, before heading out the door. Gilmore let’s out another amused hum, a much softer and fond smile on his face as he watches you disappear into the growing morning crowd before heading to the shop. You’ll be fine, he figures, you’ve done trips like this all the time with either him or one of his trusted employees, yet even with that thought in mind it didn’t shake an uneasy pit to form in his gut…
It was growing closer to midday and that small pit Gilmore had sank into a deep worry, you should’ve arrived by now. He tries shaking off any worse case scenarios, reasoning that the market can still be just a bit confusing for someone still so young or perhaps you’d run into someone you knew and struck a conversation with them, maybe both. Yes, that had to be it, Gilmore was an outgoing person and it’s no secret that you had come out of your shell a lot more since he took you under his wing. Yet as the day progressed, evening starting to approach and still no sign of you, that worry was now slowly slipping into a fear that something was wrong.
“Sherri, I’m going out.” Gilmore says in an oddly firm voice, Sherri nods to him in understanding, truth is she too was starting to worry about your well being but kept it to herself so she’d remain professional in front of the costumers. With Gilmore’s concern growing by the second he barely registers the new arrivals at his shop, the questions they ask unheard as he casually brushes them off and heads for the door. It’s only when a hand is placed on his shoulder and a familiar voice makes him pause.
“Gilmore? Is everything alright? You’re never one to just walk away like that.” Gilmore looks to the rouge, Vax’s face showing concern for his friend.
“I… you you wouldn’t happen to have seen (y/n) on your way here, have you?” Gilmore asks with slight hope.
“I’m afraid not, why? Is something wrong?”
“I sent them out to pick up a few item for me, I haven’t seen them since.” The worry was evident in his voice, gaining the attention of the rest of Vox Machina. “I’m sorry, I don’t have the time to stay any longer.” With that he turns for the door again.
“We’ll search with you.” Vax quickly adds making Gilmore glance over his shoulder at him. “We know how much (y/n) means to you, and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we’d all like to see them return safe and sound, right?” He looks to his group getting a nod from everyone, some more enthusiastic then others.
Gilmore, now with the help of Vox Machina head to the market and spread out to start their search for you, asking around to see if anyone knows anything of your whereabouts. This, to Gilmore’s dismay, came mostly unsuccessful and now was when worst case scenario was starting to bleed into his thoughts. Where could you be? Did someone take you? Were you hurt? What if- His thoughts come to a screeching halt as he turned to look down a small alleyway, the very familiar figure laying on the ground, laying in a small puddle of their own blood nearly making his heart stop. Gilmore rushes to you, checking your pulse and breathing a slight sigh of relief when he finds you still have one, now he carefully lifts your unconscious form in his arms and leaves the alleyway, spotting Pike not too far away and calling for her.
“Please, help them.” Gilmore near begs, Pike wasting no time in healing you. When she steps away you’re still out cold but at least you were stable, Gilmore sighing in relief. “As always your devine magic is well appreciated.” He thanks.
“Oh, it was nothing.” Pike smiles. “You should take them home to rest, I’ll tell the others you found them.”
“Wonderful, and as thank you for the help I’ll allow you all a fifteen…” He pauses a second to look at your sleeping figure. “Ahh, what the heck, you each can take one item free of charge.”
“Whoa! Wait, really?!” Pike stares shocked, Gilmore nods with no hesitation.
“Generous, I know but… no item could be more valuable then them.” He smooths some of your hair back, a caring look in his eyes as your body shifts a little to rest more comfortably in his arms. With that Gilmore heads home, Pike giving a quick wave before using her earring to update the others.
When you finally open your eyes it’s dark outside, stars could be seen through the window. What happened? You remember going to the market and then sneezing… oh right. Your realization turns to a groan when your head starts throbbing, the stuffy nose doesn’t help either. The door opens softly and Gilmore steps into the room, surprise crosses his features when he sees you sitting up in bed, he walks over and kneels down at the bedside.
“Hi, how are you feeling?” As much as he wanted to smother you in a hug knowing you were safe and well, he refrained, not wanting to accidentally hurt you himself.
“I feel icky, dizzy and my head hurts.” You huff a little. “I’m sorry I couldn’t get what you needed.” You quickly add but Gilmore hushes you.
“There’s no need for apologies. I’m just glad you’re alright. What happened? Did someone hurt you?” From soft and gentle to looking ready to smite someone in an instant, a rare sight to see from the shopkeeper.
“… no, it wasn’t like that.” You say just above a whisper, you cheeks reddening from feeling a little embarrassed, Gilmore’s quick to notice.
“It’s alright. Tell me what happened.”
“Ummm, well, I was in the market and looking for where to pick up the stuff you wanted when a-Ah-AHCOOO!!” Before you could stop yourself you sneeze, a surge of magic activating and sending a few items tumbling to the floor. “Th-that happened, but a lot stronger and I blacked out… I think I’m sick.” You finish sheepishly. It’s quiet for a moment before he lets out a soft chuckle.
“Well, I’m just glad no one tried targeting you personally. Now you rest up, I’ll fix something up for you when you wake again.” He encourages, you lean forwards and give him as best a hug as you can.
“Thank you.” You mumble into his shoulder.
“For what?” He hums curiously, retuning the hug.
“For caring for me. You’re the best papa ever!” Gilmore’s touched by your words, a content smile on his face as he places a gentle kiss to the top of your head.
“Well… thank you for allowing me to do so. You’re the most valuable thing to ever enter my life.” He replies sincerely, you beam at him before letting out a yawn, Gilmore tucks you into bed and quietly exits the room as you finally laying down for some well needed rest.

Priscilla (2023) - A Review
Heya folks! Here's a new blog dedicated to films + TV that I'm watching.
Tumblr media
I made a very hasty decision to see Priscilla (dir. Sofia Coppola) in theaters today. I knew a little bit about it, that it was Priscilla Presley's biopic and that it would be based on her own autobiography, "Elvis and Me".
I have many good things to say about this film. Perhaps the most stunning things are the mise-en-scene and the editing. As always, Coppola has a very compelling way of telling stories.
The montages!!! I love how Coppola and her frequent collaborator Sarah Flack cut together Priscilla. I can see Lost In Translation here a bit with the clunky, slightly off-beat cuts. It's intriguing, a little unsettling, yet rhythmic at the same time. My favorite is when Priscilla waits on Elvis the first time. The way she's suspended in her own girlhood while Elvis floods her brain and her life. What a way to watch the time pass. You get all the information you need, all the details, and in an interesting way that fits the film well.
Some of the montages feel a little too romantic, like I'm watching a teen drama, which I think is excellent. There were so many points in the movie I start to fall for the romance and have to remind myself how this began in the first place and the young girl at the center of it.
Tumblr media
THE COSTUMES. Coppola very much has an eye for production design!!! I noted in an interview she tends to spend her time there more than most directors. You can certainly tell. Elvis and Priscilla and honestly the whole world feels so believable and immersive because of the amount of detail. Priscilla's hair being our visual marker as we move through time is a great device and it really allows us to see this progression as she grows up and tries to fit more and more into this world she didn't choose.
Jesus, every single frame in this movie is beautiful. The way Priscilla is LIT. OH MY GOD. From the very beginning, with Priscilla's feet walking into the frame over the pink carpet. Every shot is composed with intention and meaning and create a strong aesthetic language that we feel consistently throughout the story.
Tumblr media
Coppola doesn't shoot a lot of coverage, so her scenes consist mainly of a static camera, a well-decorated set, and her actors moving and talking to each other. Some moments feel incredibly long, other feels short and sweet. The rhythm is pervasive and concise.
She also tends to shoot at a lower budget. The most expensive scenes were likely the huge montages! There's a particular montage of Elvis performing that's used to show passage of time and it's shot very simply. You can do a lot with a little. Just a single spotlight in front of him to cast a long shadow, one camera on a dolly, a couple silhouettes to represent the crowd. Elvis is dark, powerful, and stepping more and more into the role of superstar. The lower the budget, the more creative control one has and I think Coppola thrives with these kinds of monetary restrictions.
Tumblr media
Even the way scenes start seemingly right in the middle of things. Priscilla's life is moving at a pace she can't really control. She's completely at the mercy of Elvis and his wants and desires. And it's so observational. We're just watching these people exist. It gets unbearable the more Priscilla is barred from living her own life. She's trapped behind the gates of Graceland. Alone.
I love that first scene when she first moves in with Elvis and she's kind of wandering around this huge home. She sits in the chair, then she scoots back and crosses her legs. Then she looks out the window. Then she's playing with the piano. She's trying to imagine herself there, feel herself growing into it. It's foreign and she's so out of place. Still, she tries to force her own belonging. What a great use of negative space!
The world always feels like it's going to choke the life out of Priscilla. Like it's against her and swallowing her up at the same time. Coppola proves again how well she portrays isolated, lonely characters.
Tumblr media
I also think Elvis was portrayed pretty fairly. He's sensitive, but troubled. There is love between them, but it's complicated and a little sinister and Priscilla spends much of the movie convincing herself it's worth sticking around for. I think this biopic is a step in the right direction of highlighting a more unseen perspective. Again, Coppola was a great choice.
& those are my thoughts! :3

Tomura Shigaraki x AllMight!daughter!reader
Chapter 17
Premis:
When The League of Villians discovers that AllMight has a daughter, they are quick to snatch you up and hold you hostage. Shigaraki had a careful and thought-out plan, but that was before you got there. Now you're in the mood for some not-so-healthy rebellion.
Word Count: 2,095
Warnings: Mentions of a P.L.F attack, cannon violence, mentions of smut but no smut occurs, (next chapter, I promise) Shigaraki flirting.
A/N:
So um....how was everyone's 2022? This chapter is kind of just a lead up to another smut chapter. It talks about smut occurring and again, if smut is not your thing you can skip the next one. But I hope you guys enjoy a Christmas themed thing going on. I don't usually write stuff for the holiday but this seemed fun.
Chapter 16
Progress has come to an abrupt standstill. You and a few others watched the news as it played from a comically large and expensive TV. A P.L.F affiliated group was busted the morning of Dec 24th. You watched it unfold as your teeth gently gnawed at the inside of your lip.
No one seemed too devastated by the news. Some critized their fellow members for being so careless and getting themselves caught. The members had been planning their own attack and the police were tipped off by an anonymous source. It felt weird. As a Paranormal Liberation Front memeber, you felt like you should be inclined to feel bad for the criminals. But as the news anchors read out the terrorists' plans to attack a very populated mall, your stomach turned.
Many around you joked and mocked their fellow P.L.F memebers. Not insulting their goal, but the events leading up to their capture. You thought their whole plan was ghastly. Disturbing the peace, just to make a statement. Killing indiscriminately just to prove a point, it made you sick. You were a P.L.F memeber, you fought for your freedom. Against the system that fails so many and kills more than it helps. A system that lies and cheats for the sake of control. To bring an end to the suffering, that is what you fought for. So no more little kids had to grow up like you. That is what you would die for.
Spinner sat close by and watched the TV intently. He rolled the lint he'd picked off of his sweater between his fingers as he watched. He muttered something to himself.
"What was that?" You asked, your voice tired. You'd been rudely awakened by Toga to come watch this news. You were still in your PJs. Spinner looked surprised you even heard him.
"Oh uh- Nothing I was just talking to myself." He tried to brush it off.
You turned away. Across the screen played footage of weapons the attackers were planning on using during the attack. It seems they were attempting to disguise them as Christmas presents.
"Authorities say the terrorists were planning on wearing Christmas costumes in an attempt to disguise themselves." The news anchor announced.
"That's so stupid."
"That's so stupid!"
Spinner and you spoke in unison. You couldn't help but laugh. The absurdity of it got to you. Spinner's face turned from shock to a amusement. He let out a shy chuckle. You shared this moment and then fell quiet again. The news continued until the segment changed to something a little more light-hearted. A celebrity charity event for the winter holidays.
"Y/N." Toga called from behind. Her voice was dull, but loud in your ear. Your muscles tensed. She startled you. You turned to look at her.
"Oh, hey Toga." Her eyes were pretty fixed on the TV. It took her a moment to remember why she approached you in first place. Her face was emotionless, she was very clearly tired. She looked at you and recited a line.
"Have you had anymore time to look at that file we collected lat week?" The file containing your medical history. The file filled with memories your mother worked to desperately to hide from you. It hurt to look at that report. More than you'd like to admit. You'd been avoiding it ever since Shigaraki gave it back to you. You swallowed.
"Uh, no. Not really. Why do you ask?" You turned to her, nervous butterflies flapping away in your stomach at the thought of her growing annoyed with you. Toga shrugged and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Boss man told me to ask you about it." She confessed. A confused smile tugged at your lip. You chuckled.
"Well I appreciate the honesty, but why didn't he just ask me that in person?" Toga sat herself down between you and Spinner, who was now making a point to try and act like he wasn't listening in on your conversation.
"I don't know, why don't you just go ask him yourself? He's just in his apartment."
"What? She's just supposed to stomp on over to SHIGARAKI!?" Spinner interjected.
"He has a point." You agreed.
"What? It's just Shigaraki."
"We watched our leader decimate entire cities and he's 'just Shigaraki,' to you!?" Spinner was outraged. Toga, was too tired to care. She slowly blinked at her peer before answering.
"What? Yeah we've seen him go ape shit a couple times-"
"A couple- A couple times!? Toga you are severely underplaying the role our leader has played."
"Look, I get that you're Shigaraki's personal yes man and all but he's not some overlord: ruler of all evil. He's the NERD that rounded up a bunch of lucky suckers, alright!?"
"He is a nerd." You agreed.
"Wha! He is the ruler of the new world we are working to build!" Spinner continued, his voice growing higher and higher with every contradicting addition to the conversation. Toga was relentless.
"You're just saying that because you're a nerd." Toga stonewalled.
"You are a nerd." You agreed with a smile.
"Stay out of this, Y/N!" Spinner squeaked. Your smile widened as you chuckled to yourself proudly. You lifted yourself from the couch and left the room as their bickering continued. You walked out into the large, long hallway. The building was massive, felt and looked more like a mall than a residential building. Which way to Shigaraki's apartments again?
You shuffled down the hall, hands in the pockets of your lounge wear. Why did Shigaraki send Toga to ask you something instead of just asking you himself? Seems a bit out of character for him, don't you think? Especially asking about something so, intense. You thought on this as you approached his dwelling. For a moment, you hesitated. Shigaraki doesn't like to be bothered. But then again, you've bothered him before. He doesn't seem to mind too much when you do it.
You grin to yourself at that thought. He's oh so fond of you. Especially after that night. The night you threw any sort of caution to the wind. Shigaraki hadn't said a word to you about it since. In fact, he'd been far too busy to even speak to you at all. Apart of you worried that you had crossed a line and made him upset. But then you thought about that night.
The way he kissed you. The way he moaned for you. The way he looked at you. You shuttered at the thought. Remember how eager he was to return the favor? You catch yourself before your knees can buckle out from under you.
You knock on the door. No answer. Knock again, you hear faint shuffling. Suddenly, a voice.
"Come in." Tomura grumbles from a speaker you'd neglected to notice by the door. You look up at the camera above the door, and you wave. The door before you unlocks, and you push forward into his humble abode.
Tomura's "apartments" is more similar to the kind of master suite a luxury tech hotel might have. There's a lot of furniture that is almost hilariously luxurious in comparison to how you were living with the League only a few months ago. You wondered why Shigaraki would even leave such a nice and comfortable home much less to live in an abandoned building.
You follow the sound of keyboard tapping. Down yet another hall, into a "home office." Tomura sits at a desk that is riddled with monitors. He has eyes on the security systems of the whole building. The two screens in front of him reveal him to be preoccupied by what appears to be a very intense video game match. You watch him play as you enter the room.
"Working hard, or hardly working?" You joked. Tomura scoffed.
"First you critique my plans. Now you're critiquing my down time?" His eyes didn't leave the screen.
"It's not that. It's just that Spinner told me not to bother big boss man while he's busy." You mocked. Tomura let out a soft chuckle.
"Spinners a nerd." He grumbled.
"That's what I said. I said you're both nerds- oh! Nice shot." You laughed as you watched him play. The match ended a few minutes later. Tomura sat back in his chair and finally turned to look at you. Something about him looking so relaxed made him so attractive.
"What do you want?" He grumbled. You took in a deep breath before answering.
"I wanted to know why you sent Toga to ask me about my file instead of asking me yourself."
"Well? Have you look at the file?" He tried to change the subject.
"Answer me first, please." You slouched. Tomura avoided eye contact.
"I thought you'd be more honest if it came from Toga." You didn't expect that answer.
"More honest? Do you think I'm dishonest with you, Shigaraki?"
"I didn't say that. And I told you to call me Tomura." He reminded. The memory flowed through your mind. The way he breathlessly whispered it to you.
"Then why, Tomura?" You asked again.
"I told you why." His eyes found you again. Clearly you were beginning to annoy him, but he was pacing himself. You sighed. This would go nowhere.
"I haven't looked at it again. I don't want to know anymore. I'm afraid it'll start another episode."
"But it's important." He pushed.
"It's my file. I'll read it when I'm ready." You said firmly. Tomura straightened himself and looked away again.
"I don't think you're dishonest with me." He spoke after a moment of silence. "You and Toga are close. She's your friend, right?" His eyes shot up to yours. You thought back to the first moment you met. How terrified you were of this strange girl dressed in uniform that had snatched you up in the gym bathroom. You smiled. How strange it was to call her friend, but how wonderful it felt to have a friend.
"I guess." You smiled.
"You guess?"
"I mean- yeah. She's my friend. But, you're my friend too, right Tomura?" You didn't expect that to make him blush and turn away. You felt proud. You approached the back of his chair and place your hands over his shoulders. "Companion, was it? That's what you called me?" He fell silent. His body stiff and warm. You could see the blush creep across the back of his ears.
"Do you celebrate Christmas?" He abruptly asked.
"Huh?" You asked, bewildered.
"Do you celebrate Christmas? Isn't it tomorrow or whatever?"
"Uh well, not really. My mom's not really into holidays. So usually Christmas was just a card and half-assed present from my Dad."
"I want to celebrate it. With you." He told you. Now it was your turn to blush.
"Have you ever celebrated Christmas before?" You asked him.
"No. But I want to." You smiled and leaned forward so that your chin rested on his shoulder.
"Funny, I expected you to be more of a grinch around christmas."
"Well, now I have someone to celebrate it with." He said it so matter of factly. "And I already know what I want." He stood. He watched him as he turned and starred at you with a look you'd never seen on him before. His expression was soft, but his eyes peirced through you. That look alone sent a chill down your spine. He took a step forward and you took a step back as you spoke.
"Yeah? What's that?" You tried to smile through your nerves as your back pressed against the wall. He took a deep breath before it shook out of him. He may have you against the wall, but both of you have turned into nervous messes.
"Do you remember..." the words faded in his throat. He swallowed and then tried again. "That night, on the couch?" His eyes looked down to your lips.
"Of course."
"You offered me-" He didn't know what word to use.
"I offered you?"
"You gave me...you-"
"I offered you companionship, and when we realized we couldn't I... I made up for it." His eyes darkened and a smile stretched across his face.
"You never let me return the favor." His face was so close. The itch to kiss him became intense.
"Is that what you want?"
"And more." His voice was so deep and confident. You couldn't help but smile.
"You really want that?" You asked, your hand resting on his chest. The way he relaxed at your touch was adorable.
"I want you for Christmas." He whispered in your ear.

I may have missed it but did you watch Shadow and Bone on Netflix? What were your thoughts on it?
i watched the first season! i think i have spoken about it on here before but i didn't tag it because i wasn't very nice, and i didn't want to like, spring that on the greater fandom tag lol
uh overall i think that the show flattened a lot of the things that i enjoyed about the books, and did not improve on anything i disliked from them.
the way the show engaged with race was deeply performative and one dimensional, like, jump-scaring the viewer with ISN'T THIS RACISM SO BAD AND AWFUL in a way that seemed intended to induce the viewer and the show itself to feel good about having noticed that they just got punched in the face.
like right before six of crows came out, i did Representation Math to figure out who was going to die lol and i was Correct and that's the kind of ethos that the show persisted with. coupled with the vibe from the books that has been increasingly sinophobic, i just uuuh Didn't Like It, it left a bad taste.
(obvs i am White and it is not my job to claim Good or Bad Job overall, or assign myself Progressive Points for having this take, but it is the way it hit me at the time of watching and after discussing with friends who are better positioned than i am to comment)
the casting of nina really bothered me, and bardugo's open support of it, while i get that it was probably a sensible choice for her, REALLY bothered me. like if you're going to create characters based on which Diversity Niche they fill, then it's incumbant on you as a creator to hold firm to that vision and use your power and your voice to push back on attempts to uuuuh hollywoodify fatness. like it was just a fundamental betrayal that...sure, i get, that's hollywood, but also this character was explicitly created as a balm to the hollywoodification of fatness, and the response to her casting was basically 'well so long as she's plus size that's what is important'. idk like this is not the fault of the actress at all, but it is: tiresome. the actress is not Fat.
also her costuming was terrible in a very un-nina way that felt like it was trying to disguise how unfat she really was/frumpify her
but aside from That Stuff, i also think that the show misunderstood the fundamental point of two of the core Alina relationships in a way that was deeply boring and in fact more of a problem in the case of the darkling in particular.
like a thing that the books does really well actually is the arc of mal and alina's relationship? in which they start off with a fundamental misunderstanding of what they mean to each other that results in them growing further apart to the point where they both have to change who they are as people to actually fit together properly again. it's a really good example of like, puppy love not working out because values and life circumstances change, but then character growth enables the characters to come together as new people with a different perspective.
because the show starts mal off in his Clear Devotion phase, it makes a lot of the potential growth in that relationship way less meaningful? lol i know a lot of people don't like book malina and...whatever to that, frankly, but from a Craft Perspective, they gave this man his character from the Third Book without giving him any of the Growth Triggers that got him to that point. i only care about I Am Become A Blade mal because he had to fight to get to that point.
re: the darkling on the show lol the show has this weird ethos that their relationship is somehow more ethical if the darkling is Really No For Real In Love With Her from the beginning, which is just SO off base with what the actual problem is with that relationship. the show tries to girl bossify Alina by have her take the darkling off guard/having him experience Real Emotions For Her without considering the fact that this just means that,,,someone who loves her is using her? that's not better! she doesn't have More Power in this relationship because she's shown to be more proactive in the romance side of their relationship, because he's still using her! she hasn't won something from him by making him experience an emotion or desire, she's just wound herself deeper into his web - but the show presents these moments as though she has gained some kind of control over a situation that she literally cannot have control over.
like the whole point of the relationship in that first book is that alina is being groomed, but instead of showing that, the show said 'oh grooming is bad, alina should have more agency!' and shot a situation where she literally cannot have agency because vital information is being kept from her, as a 'yas queen make him obsessed with you!' kind of situation. he's already obsessed with her! because she's a tool to him! it's not agency to make a man want you when he is already using you for his own purposes, it's being groomed!
i need shows that are engaging in depicting problematic relationships to fucking lean into that rather than wriggle out of it. because when they try to wriggle out of it, they always, always end up depicting something that's still fucked up, only now the narrative doesn't seem to be aware of its fucked upness.
anyway uuuuh those are my main thoughts on show, i did not watch the second season and probably never will lol

Post Season Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season one.
Hello everyone! I have such mixed emotions as I’m typing this. We have reached the end of season one, which means we get to talk about the season as a whole. I’m sad to have finished this season, but I’m excited for what’s to come. I have a lot to say, so let’s get on with it.
WARNING: This post contains spoilers.
The Good: First, we have to talk about the Master. This might be an unpopular opinion, but the Master is one of the most memorable Big Bads of the series for me. He stands out from the rest of the Big Bads in the same way he is different from the rest of the vampires on the show. I would have loved to see more of him, even just little pieces. His story is something that I am so deeply curious about. Mark Metcalf and the costuming department made him who he is, and I commend them.
Speaking of costuming, it was unexpectedly one of my favorite parts of the season. When I decided to include a fashion corner section in these reviews, I wasn’t sure I would have anything specific to write about. I don’t pretend to know anything about fashion, and there were a lot of times my comments felt a little silly, but costuming made the experience worth it. I loved seeing the small details that set Buffy apart from the other characters, and personally it added so much to my watch through of this season.
Buffy’s character arc is a huge note I have. I felt like almost every episode I brought up her arc, and for good reason. Buffy’s attempt to find normalcy sets her apart distinctly, and it makes some of the underlying themes in the episodes so much better when you look at it through that lens. Slowly, as the season progresses, we watch Buffy learn to accept her fate as the Slayer. She still tries to balance being a normal girl and the Slayer, but the pressures on herself to be normal wane as she realizes she cannot ignore her duties. In the last review of the season, I pointed out that the underlying theme of “Prophecy Girl” was grief through the lens of a teenager, and that particularly ties into Buffy’s arc. She learns she is destined to die, and immediately shuts down. She quits, but is unable to ignore her fate. Her grief is centered around the loss of innocence, the loss of the ability to be a teenager, and it’s heartbreaking. It’s what perfectly ties the arc up at the end of the season.
Again, I loved the themes in certain episodes. They add another layer to each episode, and it’s fun to look through that lens and understand the episode a little deeper. Witch, Nightmares, Out of Mind, and Prophecy Girl pull this off wonderfully, and I wish they had a larger narrative theme for each of the episodes this season. I cannot wait to see this used in later seasons.
Lastly, I loved watching the character relationships grow. Watching how Buffy and Giles’s relationship progressed, or Buffy and Willow’s relationship progressed, and knowing where they end up is something special. You get to connect to these characters this way, and it’s worth it. I am going to love seeing where they go.
The Bad: As much as I loved this season, there was actually a lot I didn’t like. From the overuse of certain tropes, to characterization, I have things I wish had been better.
To start, Xander’s character. I really didn’t like Xander this season, and I will admit I did sort of ruin him for myself early on. Xander Harris is a rough character to begin with, and when you add in the context that he might be based on the creator, it gets worse. I spent a large chunk of the season cringing at every line he spoke, because most of the lines he had this season include sexual and perverse comments about his female friends or about the female classmates around them, or making snide comments because they rejected him. It’s easy to brush it off as him being a hormonal teenage boy, but at some points it crosses a line into creepy -- like the time he “joked” about taking pictures of Buffy through her bedroom window -- and it really feels like you can hear Joss when he says those things. I would like to see Xander move away from this part of his character, but I don’t have a whole lot of hope for it.
Another character I really struggled with this season was Cordelia. I don’t even think I have to say it anymore, I’ve said it what feels like a million times. Cordelia’s characterization was grossly mishandled, and I remember at one point thinking it was some sort of attack on Charisma Carpenter. She has very little growth throughout the season, until the very end when we actually see her character come through. We spend most of the season with the same one dimensional trait, the shallow and vain and bitchy Cordelia. It’s exhausting, and I still wish we had seen more of who she ends the season being. Even then, it took them ten and a half episodes to even try to make Cordelia likable, and it doesn’t feel fair to the character or the audience, let alone the actress.
Additionally, we have to talk about “The Harvest”, particularly Jesse’s character. Twelve episodes later, and I’m still irritated that they spent so much time discussing Jesse in that episode just to never mention him again. I’m not asking much, just a name drop or even a reference to him would be enough to sate me. I just don’t love how they did that, it feels like a waste of time. Narratively, I hope they make strides to change this with other characters, but we’ll see.
Also, it’s the elephant in the room. We all know I’m going to bring it up: the fucking fake outs. It got old by the second episode, but they continued to use it as a narrative tool. I don’t know why they loved it so much, but they did. It really reached a point of irritation for me in “Puppet Show”, and I’ve been stewing about it ever since. They used the fake out at almost every given chance in that episode, and it kind of ruined the episode for me. That being said, I can’t remember any major uses of this trope again in the series, so I’m hoping we can leave it behind in season one.
Lastly, the end scenes didn’t work for me. It’s a mini fake out, but it does nothing narratively for the rest of the series. The only time we see something that actually comes back up in the larger narrative is the reveal that the Anointed was alive. I think the use of the end scenes could work, but in moderation, with things that come up later. Until then, I see no point in using them.
Episode Ranking: This was actually so hard to do, because I didn’t really know where I wanted to put some of these. It was fun though, and it made me think about why certain episodes did better than others.
Twelfth  - “Never Kill a Boy on the First Date”
Eleventh - “Teacher’s Pet”
Tenth - “I, Robot…You, Jane.”
Ninth - “Welcome to the Hellmouth”
Eighth - “Witch”
Seventh - “The Harvest”
Sixth - “The Puppet Show”
Fifth - “Angel”
Fourth - “Nightmares”
Third - “Out of Mind, Out of Sight”
Second - “The Pack”
First - “Prophecy Girl”
Reflection: This season has been a journey, in the best way. As the show found it’s footing, I too had to find mine while starting this blog. I know I have a long ways to go, but I am so proud of this blog, and I cannot begin to express how much it means to me.
The opportunity to sit down and watch one of my favorite shows and then talk about it is one I am incredibly grateful for. I got to know the show so much better this way, and my love for it really grew over the last twelve episodes. I can’t wait for the next six seasons, because I get to make this mine.
I was, admittedly, terrified when I started this blog. I didn’t think anyone would like it, or interact with it, but I took the risk anyway and I’m glad I did. I’ve struggled this season to try and find a balance between just analysis and personal experience, and how to find my voice while writing about this. I think I’m getting to a place that I like, but I’m always afraid it’s going to be too personal for anyone else to understand. I’m learning, and that’s all I can ask.
I have some ideas for next season, things I want to add to the reviews, and I’m excited to try them out. I put this on the end of each post, but I really do want to hear other people’s input. It’s not just my blog, it’s kinda supposed to be yours, too.
Out Takes/Funny Notes: These are gold in my opinion and I can’t leave them in my google doc.
Welcome to the Hellmouth:
-Because “try not to get kicked out” is a normal thing every parent tells their child on the first day of school.
-Why Sunnydale has a starbucks is beyond me, but they also don’t actually have a starbucks.
The Harvest:
-I would have staked Darla for the disobedience, honestly.
-Harmony is not as clueless as she becomes later in the series, she even seems sort of sweet.
-Nevermind she’s a raging bitch
-Yes Willow, go!! Sabotage them!
-Doesn’t it seem a little…coincidental you found Jesse, all alone, passed out in the tunnel?
-Is it just me or is Luke a little…damn
-This whole ritual is kinda…sexual?
-I feel like the vampires rolling up with their vamp faces isn’t the best tactical choice. Going in looking normal and then vamping out would have been more effective, I think.
-And it never was the same, good call Xander.
Witch:
-I would have thought something bad happened but no, it’s Buffy trying out for the cheer team
-NOT THE BARBIE DOLL
-”That girl’s on fire!!” Yes she is Willow!!!
-Buffy is the kind of friend I’d want because she’s always good in a crisis. If I caught on fire she’d be the first one I’d call
-Is that a scrunchie she’s wrapping around Cordelia-Barbie’s head?
-Joyce had Gidget hair? Incredible
-They’re all surprised that its witchcraft like?? Obviously?
-It’s a perv thing isn’t it?
-IT IS A PERV THING!!
-Are we about to get a shining reference?
-This whole episode is basically because Amy’s mom peaked in highschool
Teacher’s Pet:
-The whiny music is perfect for a Xander episode
-Oh my god, fork guy is scared of mantis-people
-I love that his name is fork guy
-Serving alcohol to minors is frowned upon, even if you’re a giant bug
Never Kill a Boy on the First Date:
-Giles forgetting he works as a high school librarian is so funny to me
-New game: Take a drink any time the scoobies are in the library and get all in a tizzy because someone else comes in
-What’s with the Master’s voice? He sounds like he’s choking back a cough or something
-The Scooby gang really needs to work on it’s barricading skills
-Why put random objects tossed around? Heavy!! Heavy objects!!
-This episode’s “gotcha”: The Anointed survived…and he’s a little boy
The Pack:
-Why are a bunch of high schoolers going to the zoo for a field trip
-And why is the principal there too?
-This is going to break my heart isn’t it
-It broke my heart
Angel:
-I’m glad the master’s voice is back to normal
-Fumigation night at the Bronze is simultaneously such a fun (interesting?) idea but so gross at the same time
-Okay, I don’t like Xander’s crush on Buffy obviously
-But the ideal situation here is a triad relationship
-They could all date each other
-Has anyone ever thought of that?
-Angel literally tells her that a vampire can’t come in uninvited two seconds after one of the three’s hands was in the house?
-Make it make sense
-God I really like how they dressed Angel this episode
-He’s tastefully slutty with the white v neck
-How awkward to have to explain to your crush that you’re the vampire who killed your family
-So Darla can’t go after Buffy, but she can kill the three? Idk man the Master needs to make up his mind
-The Master really should kill Darla
-He’s one of the oldest vampires alive! He’s her sire! And yet she talks back to him and defies him
-Not through the front window! That’s gonna cost a fortune!
-It’s so weird to hear him be called “Mr. Giles” because everyone else just calls him Giles
-Sometimes I forget his first name is Rupert and not Giles
I, Robot…You, Jane:
-Now that I think about it, Xander gets a lot of flack for dating girls who aren’t human or ordinary by any means, but Willow has a similar history?
-Moloch, a demon. Oz, a werewolf. Tara, a witch. And Kennedy, a potential Slayer
The Puppet Show:
-Giles can handle himself they say as he is about to be killed
-Like have you met the man
Nightmares:
-The guy with the ponytail kinda cute
-Honestly the kid is probably more terrifying than the actual anointed
-Just pops out of nowhere
-Do these kids ever go to class? I’m gonna start a class counter next season where I count how many classes they are shown to actually go to
-No one else notices the little boy wandering the halls?
-Who smokes in the school’s boiler room? I’d be worried it would blow the whole building
-The parallel  between this girl literally being beaten to death and the sign that says smoking kills is so fucking funny to me
-No don’t go into the basement the basement has bad vibes!
-The only thing scary about that clown is his laugh tbh
Out of Mind, Out of Sight:
-God what a sexist pig
-I’m glad Marcie beats the shit out of him
-Clea DuVall!!
-A win for the lesbians
-I’m sorry you’re telling me the ceiling is stable enough to support three of you UNTIL you trade blows with Buffy? The math ain’t mathing
Prophecy Girl:
-Earth quake babey!!
-He’s dissociating Buffy, chill
-Go Willow go!!
-Buffy’s getting a little cocky with the stake isn’t she?
-I love when blood comes out of the sink! It’s so fun
-If Giles is the dad is Jenny the cool aunt or the step mom?
-Love how Buffy came back from the dead and said “fuck this it’s game time”
Thank YOU: You didn’t think I forgot my dues, did you?
First and foremost, I want to thank the team at @sunnydale-digest. You have given me a platform, and while I know that’s the point of your blog, I am forever grateful for you all. I have been following your blog for as long as I’ve been on tumblr (or at least, for as long as my main blog as existed), and I can’t tell you how much it means to me each time you reblog my posts. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
A special thank you to Kay (@goblinagenda), who won’t see this. When I told them about wanting to do this, they were so supportive. He pushed me to do make this blog, and I wouldn’t be here without him.
Of course, I cannot go without thanking Li (@voltrontrxsh). Li, mother of my children, my partner in crime, the person who is all but my creative director. Thank you so much, for all of your input and all of your support. You, whether you knew it or not, were a huge help at the beginning of this process, and I am so grateful for you.
Lastly, to the people who interact with my post and this blog. Thank you. I didn’t expect anyone to see this blog, I was fully prepared to be speaking into the void. Each like or reblog makes my heart swell, and it’s what pushed me to keep going. Thank you, I hope you see this blog as yours just as much as mine.
Final Notes: As always, feel free to leave any comments, suggestions, or questions in the ask box!

"Scooby-Doo Where Are You?" (1969)
Tumblr media
S1 Ep5. "Decoy For A Dognapper"
Air Date: October 11th 1969
"The gang investigates the disappearance of a prized poodle by using Scooby as a decoy to unveil the thief... until Scooby is also kidnapped."
...I haven't posted in a while, and this episode is why. I didn't want to do it. I didn't want to type out all the white guilt I felt while watching this episode. I was struggling to think of fun silly things to add when I first typed up this draft, But while strongly pawing at my own face, not feeling comfortable with what I had written at all. I finally caved and sat down to write this review correctly.
Tumblr media
I will start by saying, this is the most culturally insensitive episode so far - which isn't saying a lot, but we're only on episode 5. For starters, the Name "Geronimo" is used so often it hurts my brain.
For those of you who don't know Geronimo was a prominent leader and medicine man from the Bedonkohe band of the Ndendahe Apache people. From 1850 to 1886, Geronimo joined with members of three other Central Apache bands – the Tchihende, the Tsokanende (called Chiricahua by Americans) and the Nednhi – to carry out numerous raids, as well as fight against Mexican and U.S. military campaigns in the northern Mexico states of Chihuahua and Sonora and in the southwestern American territories of New Mexico and Arizona.
And there is just truly no substance to this episode other than Buck Masters is evil, and yet also somehow a bad villain??? But I will cover that in my villain review.
Usually I take this post to explain what the gang did wrong, or how they actually weren't that helpful after comparison to damage. In this case, I bite my tongue and say they really didn't do anything wrong. No elaborate trap, no ongoing chase scene, no Scooby being Scooby moment, nothing. Daphne does get captured but is short term.
Tumblr media
There weren't even finances to break down, no poke at crashing a boat, not even an elaborate trap that cost way too much.
Freddy made a slingshot out of a tree, and they caught him by the dogs chasing him up a tree. This episode sucked, Burt Masters sucks.
There's no happy ending about this episode. The remarks and comments made during this episode were so low I was even shocked to hear them myself. The entire episode is based on horrible indian stereotypes that we as a society have cancelled them. I wish I hadn't watched this, then rewatch this episode while debating in my own head about what to say. But as I'm writing out financial Breakdown for my villain post, I had to Amazon shudders "Indian Costumes" for a price point and I was shocked to STILL see these cultures still being viewed this way today. Unapologetically being shown in this light.
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, I can say as a society we were just not there in 1969. We (as a society) had not learned to be upset when we view these kinds of things, in fact this was probably a very 'inclusive' episode at the time and Hannah Barbara really thought they were on to something. Which is unfortunate to see now.
I was never a fan of this episode, maybe because it wasn't really funny, or there were a lot of fluff scenes that didn't make sense. I honestly couldn't tell you why I was never a fan growing up, but (now) I can tell you the reason this episode bugs me is because it's extremely culturally insensitive.
Tumblr media
So there, I've done it! I've written out this review and we can now move forward into future episodes and laughs.
I'm sorry if this isn't the normal standard for my reviews, but even small cultural insensitives is not a matter we can overshadow with animation quirks, favorite quotes, and individual character stupidity.
My love for Scooby-Doo carries on, as I know we as a society have made progress and it truly shows in episodes like these - because episodes like these don't exist anymore.

I love you all, stay safe and educated 💚

My hero academia anime review
Spoilers for my hero academia and tw for family issues
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I have only watched everything up to about half of season 4.
“Even if it means twisting myself, I’ll win the way I choose,” - Katsuki Bakugo
Genre: action, high school, superhero
Where I watched it: Funimation
Characterisation: 8.5/10 (Characters have a very broad range of personalities and even minor side characters get some screen time. Most characters are gradually developed throughout the series, with the main characters being complex and diverse, but also improving as they learn more and make mistakes. An example is Todoroki’s struggle to view his fire as his own power after the abuse his father out his family through- gradually, he starts to realize that, despite it being the same power, it’s his power and he is not his father. There are a LOT of characters too, so there’s something for everyone. The series also strays from clichés a bit, making the characters more memorable, unique and the plot more enjoyable. An example of this is Uraraka, who appears light hearted, cutesy and carefree, but her real reason for becoming a hero is to make a lot of money so her parents can rest after working so hard for her whole life.)
Setting: 8/10 (As a setting, UA high school works very well- it has all the facilities that would be necessary for training future pro heroes for all kinds of situations, and the high school element adds a more realistic, slice of life feel. The setting is sometimes changed, with things like work studies at hero agencies or training camps, and this helps us to keep understanding this world and enjoy seeing the characters grow and develop. It also makes for a stimulating plot. Later on in the anime, the decision is also made to build dorms to keep the students safe from increasing villain attacks. This adds a nice, homely feel to the school, with each student personalising their room to reflect them, as well as creating opportunities for more relaxed and wholesome skits.)
Art style: 7/10 (The art style is pleasant- most characters are well drawn and their costumes as heroes are too. However, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, and settings tend to look way too computerised for my taste)
Plot: 8/10 (the plot is pretty fast paced and dynamic- it certainly doesn’t lack variety, as well as mysteries and questions that need answering. All this makes it quite engaging to watch, but sometimes, particularly with some battle arcs, some events dragged on for way too long, so I started to lose interest.)
Originality:9.5/10 (I absolutely adore the way this anime combined elements of a regular, slice of life, high school anime (friendships, rivalries, school events etc.) with a very comic like vision of heroes and superpowers. It managed to make the two go hand in hand in a very innovative way.)
Addictiveness: 7/10 (While the solid plot and the mystery elements, as well as the amazing world building do engage the viewer, I definitely wouldn’t say this anime was gripping- it didn’t leave me needing to know more, and, due to the storyline dragging in some arcs, I actually ended up losing interest for a short while)
Comfort: 7/10 (There are some darker areas to the anime- atrocious deeds are committed against vulnerable people, and there’s a lot of raw emotion too, due to the mental demand of being a hero. However, the friendship element of MHA, as well as the numerous funny or wholesome skits and the (for the most part) positive and good natured cast who always persevere make the anime quite comforting to watch.)
Philosophy: 8/10 (Due to the high level of character development, there are definitely some noteworthy points to take away from the anime. The majority of these are about self improvement, and come from the characters themselves growing. One of these is that you should never be so cocky that you don’t see your own weaknesses and don’t make progress, which is something Bakugo realised after failing his provisional license exam, despite being among the top students in the class. The main one however, is that no matter how impossible things seem, if someone is passionate, dedicated and works hard, they can make it happen. This is shown throughout Izuku’s own journey of training to become a hero.)
Consistency:7.5/10 (Despite the quality not really dropping from season to season, there are some areas where the plot drags and gets a bit repetitive, or where it becomes easy to lose interest.)
The plot
Izuku Midoriya dreams of becoming a pro hero, and has felt that way ever since he was a little kid. This was despite the fact that, in a superhuman society where 80% of people are born with some sort of power, or “quirk,”, he was born completely ordinary. When he saw All might, the number one hero, on TV as a kid, he grew to idolise him and wanted to become just like that. So, despite having no power, Izuku makes the decision to apply for UA, the school producing all the top pro heroes in Japan. His ambition is shut down by his childhood bully, Katsuki Bakugo, who insults him and tells him not to waste time applying- he himself is an amazing student with a powerful quirk. Before the UA entrance exam, Izuku meets all might, and asks him if he can ever become a hero. All might tells him he doesn’t think it’s possible, but a few days later, Izuku sees Bakugo being attacked by a villain and rushes to save him on impulse. After seeing all this, all might changes his mind, as it’s clear to him that Izuku has all the natural qualities of a pro hero. Because of this, he tells Izuku the secret about his own power, which greatly boosts strength and speed. It can be handed down from person to person- the previous user simply needs to choose someone, and all might has chosen Izuku. Once he knows this, Izuku works harder than ever, and he keeps up with a rigorous training regime all might sets up for him in order to be physically strong enough to wield the power. All might transfers his power to Izuku just before the entrance exams, telling him he will not be able to use it all straight away. The exam consists of taking down villain robots, with one robot being worth no points at all. Keeping in mind what all might told him, Izuku is cautious and reluctant to use his new power, but this quickly changes when he sees the 0 points robot heading towards a girl trapped under some rubble. The girl saved him from tripping up using her own zero gravity power before the exam, and had introduced herself as Ochaco Uraraka. Without thinking, Izuku jumps and punches the robot with all his strength, completely demolishing his arm in the process. He is then rushesd to the infirmary. This is the first of many challenges Izuku will face to become a pro hero, but his determination, as well as his skills, will only grow along the way, as he will work harder, and meet more incredible people; some mentors, some friends and some rivals.

New blog post!
New blog post is up! This is a long one, but it goes into detail about what's been going on for me personally and for LMC over the past ~3 months + details plans for the next 4-6 months. Give it a read here or check it out in full under the break below!
Happy belated new year! + updates
It’s been about 3 months since my last blog post, so I figure it’s past time for an update! First off; happy new year! We made it to 2024! I think 2023 was pretty rough for a lot of people, myself included, so we should all feel proud that we made it another year. Existing is exhausting, and every new day is an adventure. I definitely struggled a lot in 2023, and want to go over some of that in this post. With that said, let’s get into the nitty gritty of things…
First up, as of tomorrow I’m attending classes again. It was supposed to be today, but class was cancelled due to inclement weather. My schedule will be completely full Mondays and Wednesdays (8:30am-6:30pm CST), so if you reach out on those two days please allow some extra time for a response. Tuesdays I’ll also be in class, but I only have two on that day as opposed to three on MW, so I’ll have a little bit more leeway that day (I expect I’ll be occupied 10:30am-4:30pm CST). My planned schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as class days (with Tuesday evening open for commission work as necessary) and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as work days, with ideally Sunday as an off/relaxation day but I’ll be using it to keep up on commissions and emails if I need to. I understand that college is a big commitment while I work on clearing out my queue, but I truly feel that it’s the best option to move forward and continue to grow as well as plan out a career and the next 5-10 years of my adult life. Emails/updates/messages will be responded to daily on Thursdays through Saturdays and I’ll do my absolute best to have quick turnaround times on Sundays through Wednesdays, but can’t guarantee it. Regardless, I’m instating a new personal policy of replying to all emails within 24 hours. Communication is still something I’m struggling with and working on, but I am very much dedicated to improving and holding myself to a high standard of customer service. I’ll also be updating my email signature with a few more tidbits of info to reflect as such :) Additionally, anyone awaiting a response to their email or a progress update will be receiving one this week.
Next up, some personal updates! I had a bit of a bumpy ride closing out 2023 due to aging out of my parents’ insurance and having to get my Very Own Insurance Plan. I was rationing my meds until the 1st because I couldn’t afford to pay $200+ out of pocket for them, which resulted in a brief period of poor communication and general sluggishness/feeling like a zombie (those of you with ADHD probably know exactly what I mean). As of January 5th, I’m back on all my meds for good and don’t foresee any issues occurring with getting them, as they’re free with my insurance plan and I live in an area that doesn’t seem to be affected by shortages, thank god. I was also able to pass my first semester of college with a 4.0, which I am INCREDIBLY proud of, and one of my long-term goals this year is to get healthier and more physically active as well as be more open and transparent with myself and my work/the costume making process. This year I’m also aiming to claw my way out of the messy financial pit I ended up in, thanks in part to the Financial Audit podcast by Caleb Hammer. I highly encourage watching it if you’re financially illiterate, temporarily in a bad spot, or you’re just looking for something to listen to. I didn’t receive much of a financial education in my impressionable years and thus ended up in a rather poor spot, and I very much want to fix that and start building toward my future. This podcast and accompanying resources is helping me a TON in that regard. This brings me to my next topic, which is commission and business updates.
The first thing I want to address is ongoing refunds for those whose commissions were cancelled or delayed; ALL refunds will be returned no later than February 8th. I’ve been refunding people as quickly as I can over the past few months with income from my shop and finished commissions, and I’m pleased to announce that the last refunds should be sent out by that date and I do not anticipate any delays. Picking up the pieces of my struggles over the summer has been an incredibly difficult process for me personally, as it’s been incredibly embarrassing to let people down and to feel like a failure as a business owner, but please know that I am dedicated to making things right with each and every person affected, no matter what “making things right” may look like. I started my business in 2019 with no prior experience managing a business, and that was my first mistake I think, and I feel so incredibly sorry to anyone whose cosplay plans/convention plans/finances I’ve negatively affected due to my lack of experience and lack of business etiquette. I was very much “taking things as they come” and struggled very hard with time management and reasonable expectations from myself, which I am still working on, and looking back on it now I think I was destined for failure and lucky to have made it as far as I did before it became a problem. I’ve been doing a LOT of self-reflection as well as attending bimonthly therapy sessions while working through this process and while I think I’ll be able to manage taking on one or two commissions at a time (read as: per semester) after my queue is emptied, I don’t feel comfortable opening commissions on a larger scale for the foreseeable future. My current plan is to finish my 2-year fashion degree and then go to my current college for a 2-year business degree, then transfer to a university to major in fashion and minor in business. I love being able to create things for people, but it’s been made quite clear that I need a real education in business before I can do things at the scale I was trying to do them. None of the mistakes I’ve made or things I’ve done have been out of malice, but I understand that I’ve had a negative effect on people regardless and I want to be able to rectify those effects and make sure nothing like them ever happens again. And to be clear, for anyone who isn’t aware: I’ve missed deadlines for multiple clients due to poor communication and poor time management, as well as struggled to refund cancelled or overdue commissions due to a fragile financial situation (part of which is compounded by not being able to properly manage my time and get commissions finished quicker). If you’ve heard or seen someone recommending to not work with me, this is what they are referring to, and I’m incredibly ashamed of it. The issue has still been ongoing, albeit on a lesser scale, while I work on cleaning up the mess and that’s the primary reason I’ve had commissions closed since August. I don’t expect the people I’ve affected to forgive me, but I do ask that anyone watching or reading to please allow me the chance to prove that I’m working on changing and becoming the business owner I should have been from the very beginning. If anyone would like to reach out to discuss these issues, be you a past client, current client, or someone who wasn’t personally involved, I am happy to discuss anything and everything in more detail through email (which can be found via my Contact page).
On a lighter note, let’s briefly talk shop updates. I’m taking a backseat on artist alleys this year to focus on commissions, with the exception of applying for Naka-Kon as it’s within 15 minutes of my house and thus a very small financial and time commitment. I’m also letting new products take a backseat for the same reason; new items will be fairly sparse until my queue is emptied as I want to focus my money and time on commissions until everything is concluded. I should have been doing this last year as well, but the time management was again an issue here; I thought I could handle having my hands in multiple pots and justified it by “diversifying my income” in order to bring in more money to issue refunds faster. I will still be running my shop, as it brings in enough money to be worth the small amount of time I do spend filling orders, but don’t expect any new items for at least the next 4-6 months.
To conclude this post, I want to again apologize. I feel very guilty and ashamed for letting things get as bad as they did, and I’m deeply sorry to anyone impacted. I hope that by the time I make my next blog post, I’ll have more positive updates to share regarding this process and can start showing the results of my first big steps toward marked improvement. Thank you to anyone who has read this far and to anyone who has ever commissioned or supported me. I want to make you all proud going forward.

“Elliot Page doesn’t remember exactly how long he had been asking.
But he does remember the acute feeling of triumph when, around age 9, he was finally allowed to cut his hair short. “I felt like a boy,” Page says. “I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be someday.” Growing up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Page visualized himself as a boy in imaginary games, freed from the discomfort of how other people saw him: as a girl. After the haircut, strangers finally started perceiving him the way he saw himself, and it felt both right and exciting.
The joy was short-lived. Months later, Page got his first break, landing a part as a daughter in a Canadian mining family in the TV movie Pit Pony. He wore a wig for the film, and when Pit Pony became a TV show, he grew his hair out again. “I became a professional actor at the age of 10,” Page says. And pursuing that passion came with a difficult compromise. “Of course I had to look a certain way.”
We are speaking in late February. It is the first interview Page, 34, has given since disclosing in December that he is transgender, in a heartfelt letter posted to Instagram, and he is crying before I have even uttered a question. “Sorry, I’m going to be emotional, but that’s cool, right?” he says, smiling through his tears.
It’s hard for him to talk about the days that led up to that disclosure. When I ask how he was feeling, he looks away, his neck exposed by a new short haircut. After a pause, he presses his hand to his heart and closes his eyes. “This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life,” he says, “mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.”
It’s not hard to understand why a trans person would be dealing with conflicting feelings in this moment. Increased social acceptance has led to more young people describing themselves as trans—1.8% of Gen Z compared with 0.2% of boomers, according to a recent Gallup poll—yet this has fueled conservatives who are stoking fears about a “transgender craze.” President Joe Biden has restored the right of transgender military members to serve openly, and in Hollywood, trans people have never had more meaningful time onscreen. Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling is leveraging her cultural capital to oppose transgender equality in the name of feminism, and lawmakers are arguing in the halls of Congress over the validity of gender identities. “Sex has become a political football in the culture wars,” says Chase Strangio, deputy director for transgender justice at the ACLU.
Tumblr media
(Full article with photos continued under the “read more”)
And so Page—who charmed America as a precocious pregnant teenager in Juno, constructed dreamscapes in Inception and now stars in Netflix’s hit superhero show The Umbrella Academy, the third season of which he’s filming in Toronto—expected that his news would be met with both applause and vitriol. “What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia,” says Page. “That’s essentially what happened.” What he did not anticipate was just how big this story would be. Page’s announcement, which made him one of the most famous out trans people in the world, started trending on Twitter in more than 20 countries. He gained more than 400,000 new followers on Instagram on that day alone. Thousands of articles were published. Likes and shares reached the millions. Right-wing podcasters readied their rhetoric about “women in men’s locker rooms.” Casting directors reached out to Page’s manager saying it would be an honor to cast Page in their next big movie.
So, it was a lot. Over the course of two conversations, Page will say that understanding himself in all the specifics remains a work in progress. Fathoming one’s gender, an identity innate and performed, personal and social, fixed and evolving, is complicated enough without being under a spotlight that never seems to turn off. But having arrived at a critical juncture, Page feels a deep sense of responsibility to share his truth. “Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric—every day you’re seeing our existence debated,” Page says. “Transgender people are so very real.”
That role in Pit Pony led to other productions and eventually, when Page was 16, to a film called Mouth to Mouth. Playing a young anarchist, Page had a chance to cut his hair again. This time, he shaved it off completely. The kids at his high school teased him, but in photos he has posted from that time on social media he looks at ease. Page’s head was still shaved when he mailed in an audition tape for the 2005 thriller Hard Candy. The people in charge of casting asked him to audition again in a wig. Soon, the hair was back.
Page’s tour de force performance in Hard Candy led, two years later, to Juno, a low-budget indie film that brought Page Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations and sudden megafame. The actor, then 21, struggled with the stresses of that ascension. The endless primping, red carpets and magazine spreads were all agonizing reminders of the disconnect between how the world saw Page and who he knew himself to be. “I just never recognized myself,” Page says. “For a long time I could not even look at a photo of myself.” It was difficult to watch the movies too, especially ones in which he played more feminine roles.
Page loved making movies, but he also felt alienated by Hollywood and its standards. Alia Shawkat, a close friend and co-star in 2009’s Whip It,describes all the attention from Juno as scarring. “He had a really hard time with the press and expectations,” Shawkat says. “‘Put this on! And look this way! And this is sexy!’”
By the time he appeared in blockbusters like X-Men: The Last Stand and Inception, Page was suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks. He didn’t know, he says, “how to explain to people that even though [I was] an actor, just putting on a T-shirt cut for a woman would make me so unwell.” Shawkat recalls Page’s struggles with clothes. “I’d be like, ‘Hey, look at all these nice outfits you’re getting,’ and he would say, ‘It’s not me. It feels like a costume,’” she says. Page tried to convince himself that he was fine, that someone who was fortunate enough to have made it shouldn’t have complaints. But he felt exhausted by the work required to “just exist,” and thought more than once about quitting acting.
In 2014, Page came out as gay, despite feeling for years that “being out was impossible” given his career. (Gender identity and sexual orientation are, of course, distinct, but one queer identity can coexist with another.) In an emotional speech at a Human Rights Campaign conference, Page talked about being part of an industry “that places crushing standards” on actors and viewers alike. “There are pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity that define how we’re all supposed to act, dress and speak,” Page went on. “And they serve no one.”
The actor started wearing suits on the red carpet. He found love, marrying choreographer Emma Portner in 2018. He asserted more agency in his career, producing his own films with LGBTQ leads like Freeheld and My Days of Mercy. And he made a masculine wardrobe a condition of taking roles. Yet the daily discord was becoming unbearable. “The difference in how I felt before coming out as gay to after was massive,” says Page. “But did the discomfort in my body ever go away? No, no, no, no.”
In part, it was the isolation forced by the pandemic that brought to a head Page’s wrestling with gender. (Page and Portner separated last summer, and the two divorced in early 2021. “We’ve remained close friends,” Page says.) “I had a lot of time on my own to really focus on things that I think, in so many ways, unconsciously, I was avoiding,” he says. He was inspired by trailblazing trans icons like Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, who found success in Hollywood while living authentically. Trans writers helped him understand his feelings; Page saw himself reflected in P. Carl’s memoir Becoming a Man. Eventually “shame and discomfort” gave way to revelation. “I was finally able to embrace being transgender,” Page says, “and letting myself fully become who I am.”
This led to a series of decisions. One was asking the world to call him by a different name, Elliot, which he says he’s always liked. Page has a tattoo that says E.P. PHONE HOME, a reference to a movie about a young boy with that name. “I loved E.T. when I was a kid and always wanted to look like the boys in the movies, right?” he says. The other decision was to use different pronouns—for the record, both he/him and they/them are fine. (When I ask if he has a preference on pronouns for the purposes of this story, Page says, “He/him is great.”)
A day before we first speak, Page will talk to his mom about this interview and she will tell him, “I’m just so proud of my son.” He grows emotional relating this and tries to explain that his mom, the daughter of a minister, who was born in the 1950s, was always trying to do what she thought was best for her child, even if that meant encouraging young Page to act like a girl. “She wants me to be who I am and supports me fully,” Page says. “It is a testament to how people really change.”
Tumblr media
Another decision was to get top surgery. Page volunteers this information early in our conversation; at the time he posted his disclosure on Instagram, he was recovering in Toronto. Like many trans people, Page emphasizes being trans isn’t all about surgery. For some people, it’s unnecessary. For others, it’s unaffordable. For the wider world, the media’s focus on it has sensationalized transgender bodies, inviting invasive and inappropriate questions. But Page describes surgery as something that, for him, has made it possible to finally recognize himself when he looks in the mirror, providing catharsis he’s been waiting for since the “total hell” of puberty. “It has completely transformed my life,” he says. So much of his energy was spent on being uncomfortable in his body, he says. Now he has that energy back.
For the transgender community at large, visibility does not automatically lead to acceptance. Around the globe, transgender people deal disproportionately with violence and discrimination. Anti-trans hate crimes are on the rise in the U.K. along with increasingly transphobic rhetoric in newspapers and tabloids. In the U.S., in addition to the perennial challenges trans people face with issues like poverty and homelessness, a flurry of bills in state legislatures would make it a crime to provide transition-related medical care to trans youth. And crass old jokes are still in circulation. When Biden lifted the ban on open service for transgender troops, Saturday Night Live’s Michael Che did a bit on Weekend Update about the policy being called “don’t ask, don’t tuck.”
Page says coming out as trans was “selfish” on one level: “It’s for me. I want to live and be who I am.” But he also felt a moral imperative to do so, given the times. Human identity is complicated and mysterious, but politics insists on fitting everything into boxes. In today’s culture wars, simplistic beliefs about gender—e.g., chromosomes = destiny—are so widespread and so deep-seated that many people who hold those beliefs don’t feel compelled to consider whether they might be incomplete or prejudiced. On Feb. 24, after a passionate debate on legislation that would ban discrimination against LGBTQ people, Representative Marie Newman, an Illinois Democrat, proudly displayed the pride flag in support of her daughter, who is trans. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, responded by hanging a poster outside her office that read: There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE.
The next day Dr. Rachel Levine, who stands to become the first openly transgender federal official confirmed by the Senate, endured a tirade from Senator Rand Paul about “genital mutilation” during her confirmation hearing. My second conversation with Page happens shortly after this. He brings it up almost immediately, and seems both heartbroken and determined. He wants to emphasize that top surgery, for him, was “not only life-changing but lifesaving.” He implores people to educate themselves about trans lives, to learn how crucial medical care can be, to understand that lack of access to it is one of the many reasons that an estimated 41% of transgender people have attempted suicide, according to one survey.
Page has been in the political trenches for a while, having leaned into progressive activism after coming out as queer in 2014. For two seasons, he and best friend Ian Daniel filmed Gaycation, a Viceland series that explored LGBTQ culture around the world and, at one point, showed Page grilling Senator Ted Cruz at the Iowa State Fair about discrimination against queer people. In 2019, Page made a documentary called There’s Something in the Water, which explores environmental hardships experienced by communities of color in Nova Scotia, with $350,000 of his own money. That activism extends to his own industry: in 2017, he published a Facebook post that, among other things, accused director Brett Ratner of forcibly outing him as gay on the set of an X-Men movie. (A representative for Ratner did not respond to a request for comment.)
As a trans person who is white, wealthy and famous, Page has a unique kind of privilege, and with it an opportunity to advocate for those with less. According to the U.S. Trans Survey, a large-scale report from 2015, transgender people of color are more likely to experience unemployment, harassment by police and refusals of medical care. Nearly half of all Black respondents reported being denied equal treatment, verbally harassed and/or physically attacked in the past year. Trans people as a group fare much worse on such stats than the general population. “My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today,” Page says, “and of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can.”
Tumblr media
Since his disclosure, Page has been mostly quiet on social media. One exception has been to tweet on behalf of the ACLU, which is in the midst of fighting anti-trans bills and laws around the country, including those that ban transgender girls and women from participating in sports. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves says he will sign such a bill in the name of “protect[ing] young girls.” Page played competitive soccer and vividly recalls the agony of being told he would have to play on the girls’ team once he aged out of mixed-gender squads. After an appeal, Page was allowed to play with the boys for an additional year. Today, several bills list genitalia as a requirement for deciding who plays on which team. “I would have been in that position as a kid,” Page says. “It’s horrific.”
All this advocacy is unlikely to make life easier. “You can’t enter into certain spaces as a public trans person,” says the ACLU’s Strangio, “without being prepared to spend some percentage of your life being threatened and harassed.” Yet, while he seems overwhelmed at times, Page is also eager. Many of the political attacks on trans people—whether it is a mandate that bathroom use be determined by birth sex, a blanket ban on medical interventions for trans kids or the suggestion that trans men are simply wayward women beguiled by male privilege—carry the same subtext: that trans people are mistaken about who they are. “We know who we are,” Page says. “People cling to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”
Even if Page weren’t vocal, his public presence would communicate something powerful. That is in part because of what Paisley Currah, a professor of political science at Brooklyn College, calls “visibility gaps.” Historically, trans women have been more visible, in culture and in Hollywood, than trans men. There are many explanations: Our culture is obsessed with femininity. Men’s bodies are less policed and scrutinized. Patriarchal people tend to get more emotional about who is considered to be in the same category as their daughters. “And a lot of trans men don’t stand out as trans,” says Currah, who is a trans man himself. “I think we’ve taken up less of the public’s attention because masculinity is sort of the norm.”
During our interviews, Page will repeatedly refer to himself as a “transgender guy.” He also calls himself nonbinary and queer, but for him, transmasculinity is at the center of the conversation right now. “It’s a complicated journey,” he says, “and an ongoing process.”
While the visibility gap means that trans men have been spared some of the hate endured by trans women, it has also meant that people like Page have had fewer models. “There were no examples,” Page says of growing up in Halifax in the 1990s. There are many queer people who have felt “that how they feel deep inside isn’t a real thing because they never saw it reflected back to them,” says Tiq Milan, an activist, author and transgender man. Page offers a reflection: “They can see that and say, ‘You know what, that’s who I am too,’” Milan says. When there aren’t examples, he says, “people make monsters of us.”
For decades, that was something Hollywood did. As detailed in the 2020 Netflix documentary Disclosure, transgender people have been portrayed onscreen as villainous and deceitful, tragic subplots or the butt of jokes. In a sign of just how far the industry has come—spurred on by productions like Pose and trailblazers like Mock—Netflix offered to change the credits on The Umbrella Academy the same day that its star posted his statement on social media. Now when an episode ends, the first words viewers see are “Elliot Page.”
Today, there are many out trans and nonbinary actors, directors and producers. Storylines involving trans people are more common, more respectful. Sometimes that aspect of identity is even incidental, rather than the crux of a morality tale. And yet Hollywood can still seem a frightening place for LGBTQ people to come out. “It’s an industry that says, ‘Don’t do that,’” says director Silas Howard, who got his break on Amazon’s show Transparent, which made efforts to hire transgender crew members. “I wouldn’t have been hired if they didn’t have a trans initiative,” Howard says. “I’m always aware of that.”
So what will it mean for Page’s career? While Page has appeared in many projects, he also faced challenges landing female leads because he didn’t fit Hollywood’s narrow mold. Since Page’s Instagram post, his team is seeing more activity than they have in years. Many of the offers coming in—to direct, to produce, to act—are trans-related, but there are also some “dude roles.”
Downtime in quarantine helped Page accept his gender identity. “I was finally able to embrace being transgender,” he says.
Tumblr media
Page was attracted to the role of Vanya in The Umbrella Academy because—in the first season, released in 2019—Vanya is crushed by self-loathing, believing herself to be the only ordinary sibling in an extraordinary family. The character can barely summon the courage to move through the world. “I related to how much Vanya was closed off,” Page says. Now on set filming the third season, co-workers have seen a change in the actor. “It seems like there’s a tremendous weight off his shoulders, a feeling of comfort,” says showrunner Steve Blackman. “There’s a lightness, a lot more smiling.” For Page, returning to set has been validating, if awkward at times. Yes, people accidentally use the wrong pronouns—“It’s going to be an adjustment,” Page says—but co-workers also see and acknowledge him.
The debate over whether cisgender people, who have repeatedly collected awards for playing trans characters, should continue to do so has largely been settled. However, trans actors have rarely been considered for cisgender parts. Whatever challenges might lie ahead, Page seems exuberant about playing a new spectrum of roles. “I’m really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body,” Page says. “No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now.”
This includes having short hair again. During our interview, Page keeps rearranging strands on his forehead. It took a long time for him to return to the barber’s chair and ask to cut it short, but he got there. And how did that haircut feel?
Page tears up again, then smiles. “I just could not have enjoyed it more,” he says.”

Kate Schmidt/female reader
Request
dayy-dreamerrs
dude i have literally no ideas but queer!kate bc im attached to her and im fruity 😩
(sorry this took so long I hope u enjoy!!)
The second Kate passed you the cheerleading outfit, your mind fell into a blissful daze. Briefly, your hands grazed against each other.
Your pink, increasingly red cheeks didn’t go unnoticed to Kate. Her soft smile made yours only grow, until there is a cough from Simon across the room, smirking at the two of you.
“Eat shit,” Kate growls, promptly showing her middle finger to him as you stand there, amused. “Sorry, Y/N. Feel free to change in the bathroom, let me know if you need any help and I'll come find you.”
She smiles, before walking away to Simon.
You stand there for a moment, watching her, before rushing away to the female bathroom as directed. You laid your backpack on the closed toilet seat, before stripping down your clothes and easily sliding into the blue costume. It hugged your body in a way you hoped Kate’s eyes would stay on you.
After shoving your previously worn clothes into your backpack, you walked out of the stall and stared in the mirror. The zip at the back wasn’t closed, your pink bra underneath revealed to the other girls scattered around the bathroom. Girls who were too busy smoking, vaping or purely gossiping to notice you were asking for help.
You sigh, throw your coat on over the outfit, before walking towards the gym once again. This time, all eyes on you. All mouths motioning your name.
“Kate?” You call out quietly.
Suddenly, the dark-haired girl jumped out from behind the bleachers, Simon following behind her. She gives you a smile and rushes towards you.
“You look great!” She beams, “Have you zipped up?”
“No, I...” Your face went pink, “None of the girls in the bathroom would help me so I just came back here - is that okay? I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologise, Y/N.”
“Okay...”
You drop your bag and coat onto the ground, before facing the opposite way from Kate. Your eyes are shut. One of her hands rest on your hip, pulling the outfit down and she uses the other hand to push up the zip.
Once ready, she spins you around and places her hands on your shoulders, your faces just inches apart.
Kate senses your anxiety, and lowers her arms, “Everything will be okay. Are you nervous about starting cheerleading? It’s really not overly complex.”
“No, I’m nervous about you..do you think people will judge me?” You end up saying, before covering your embarrassed face. Standing close to you, was Kate. The girl you’ve adored admired for months on end, and you were expressing your concerns about getting bullied.
Unexpectedly, Kate didn’t laugh. Instead, she wrapped her arms around your waist and rested her chin on your shoulder. “Nobody will judge me when I'm with you. if they do, I’ll murder them.”
You laugh, “You would murder them for me?”
“Of course. I would do anything for one of my cheerleaders - we’re like a family now,” Kate pulls away enough for your faces to meet, her hands are still resting on your waist as she smiles at you, “And for the record, I doubt anyone would talk bad about you wearing that. Seriously, you’re making me question myself right now - you look beautiful, Y/N.”
The bell rang, and you internally thanked it. You and Kate parted ways after sharing one last hug, you couldn't find the words to say anything else. Looking down, you could see your hands were shaking nervously. You take a deep breath - maybe two - before walking in the direction of your next class.
Everyone was wrong. Kate was seen as heartless, but you knew that was far from the truth. At your audition, when you accidentally tripped over, Kate helped you remain focused and you finished without a second mistake. She helped you with your outfit, made you smile and complimented you so much your knees literally went weak.
Sitting in geometry, you could see Kate a few rows away. Apparently you shared more classes then you originally thought. Between you sat Deena, who was too preoccupied scribbling notes and sketches back and forth with Sam to notice anything else occurring during the class.
They came out as a couple the previous year. You almost cried when it happened - because someone was like you. And if Kate stayed friends with them before and after, she had to support that, right?
Possibly even be apart of that community, you thought to yourself.
“Y/N,” Kate whispered from her desk, she passed Deena a note, which Deena gave to you with a smirk.
Your face heats up as you open the note, reading ‘bleachers. 7 - Kate <3′
The butterflies in your stomach grow when you look up and see her blowing you a kiss. From the back of your mind you wondered if she was simply being a tease - that she somehow found out about your secret crush and enjoyed pushing you around. Except, her sincere smile made you remember this was Kate, she isn’t a bad person. She’s beautiful and smells like sweet lemons.
So, you gave her a nod, wordlessly agreeing you would be there.
You sat on the bench while the cheerleaders danced. Considering it was only your first day - you decided against participating in the big game. Primarily because you were scared of humiliation, but also because you wanted everything to go perfectly for Kate.
The game is still in progress, twenty minutes remain and you’re sitting under the bleaches as directed, a warm hot chocolate resting in your palms.
it’s 7:06 and zero sign of Kate.
Embarrassment infused you when you saw another couple making themselves comfortable metres away, practically dry-humping each other as you sat and drank your warm drink. You decided to wait a few more minutes before you left, when it reaches 7:15 you promised yourself to walk away.
And by the time 7:15 reached, you were walking out of the bleaches with tears filling up your eyes - she led you on because she had the advantage.
“Y/N?” A voice, one defiently belonging to Kate called out.
You looked around and saw her, “What?”
As a disguise, she wore an oversized jumper, a cap and baggy pants. You barely noticed it was her - but by looking at her pretty smile, it was obvious.
“I’m sorry I was late, coach was upset,” She walked closer towards you, and sat down on the ground, patting the spot beside her, “And I was getting changed into these clothes...I didn’t want anyone to see me.”
“Why?” You ask, “Are you...embarrassed of me? Are you embarrassed to be friends with me?”
Kate tilts her head and frowns, “You know that’s not it. I’m not embarrassed of you, Y/N. I’m...embarrassed of myself. Everybody knows people only come down here to be with the person they like.”
You stay quiet.
She continues, “And I like you...I barely know you, but I've seen you. In class, you're always so observant and smart. And when you got nervous talking to me I realised that maybe you're like me - so I made my move. And I showed up late, which I'm sorry for, but I just...I like you a lot.”
“Do you really?” You smile softly, “Because I like you - a lot - but I don’t want to say anything in case this is some sick prank.”
Instead of responding, Kate holds the back of your head with her hand and pushes your lips together. It’s soft, unlike the last few guys you've kissed, Kate’s lips weren't chapped or picked at. They're smooth and taste like cherry lip gloss, which she undoubtably uses.
Kate pulls away, “I'm not interested in girls.”
You frown, “Then why are you kissing me? Didn't you just confess?”
Kate smiles, and tucks a loose strand of her behind her ear, “I did, and I like you. I’m not...interested in labelling myself. I’m giving you a warning, I’m not ready for this - for us - to be public. So, if you’re not interested in being a secret for however long...tell me now.”
Despite how often you've dreamt about walking down the hallway with Kate’s hand holding your own - you remember what it’s like to be afraid of judgement. So, you press one last kiss to her cheek, “I would love to be your secret.”
“You would?”
“Yes.”

If I could, could I request Class 1-A’s with a water quirk who loves mermaids?
Class 1A x GN!Reader
In which Class 1A deals with a classmate who loves mermaids.
Warnings: None
Genre: Fluff
a/n: These are so cute to write about plz <3
Tumblr media
(Y/n) (L/n) has always had a fascination with what was hidden underneath the ocean, it could be the result of their quirk being related to water or just the child-like wonder never leaving them. Growing up they would watch The Little Mermaid on repeat and sigh dreamily at the thought of having a tail like hers. They learnt how to draw in order to create themselves as a mermaid in fictional form, perhaps they could even send in a similar design for when U.A. asks for hero suit designs.
That is exactly what happened. Despite not having fins for legs on the regular for their costume, there was a resemblance of flow like material that would glimmer like scales. They also garnered mini seashells strapped around their waist like a belt.
“Pft! What are you? Holder of seashells or something?” Bakugou cackled and (Y/n) glared at him, spraying him with water and directly aiming for his open mouth.
Bakugou sputtered and coughed out the liquid before attempting to charge at them with his quirk engaged, (Y/n) simply sucked out all the sweat he was generating for his quirk with a flick of their wrist, leaving him useless. “What the hell?!”
“Whoa thats so cool! (Y/n) can basically turn Bakugou quirkless!” Denki clasped his hands in amusement as Kirishima and Sero had to restrain him from physically attacking the water bender.
Midoriya was in the cornering jotting down the useful information about them that he had witnessed.
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
“Tsu-chan! Tsu-chan let’s pretend we’re mermaids!” (Y/n) exclaimed as they dragged Asui to the U.A. pool. The girls had rented it out for a day before the training camp and invited (Y/n) along because they all found them adorable, the girls had basically adopted them.
(Y/n) was gifted a swimming tail by Hatsume Mei, who had tinkered with the idea of a mermaid suit for them. Once they put it on as trial, (Y/n) could not stop the joyful tears from flowing as they pulled Mei into a crushing hug, thanking her profusely for making their dream come true.
As of now they finally got to try it on for use. To say it wasn’t hard to maneuver in at first would be a lie, but with the help of Asui they finally got the hang of it and felt like they were on cloud nine.
Breathing under water was not a problem as a water quirk user, it made it all the more real. The water was a safe place and they knew if ever they wanted some time to think, away from the loud noises and to clear their mind in general, the water would welcome them with open arms.
“Wow (Y/n)-chan, you look like a real mermaid!” Hagakure squealed as she watched the tail appear and disappear in the water, “you really do look the part.” Jirou commented, a slight blush at the beauty before her.
“Our precious (Y/n)! Here I thought you couldn’t get any cuter.” Mina huffed, trying to take pictures of the moment.
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
(Y/n) was at the bottom of the pool in U.A.
They were laying down on the floor of the pool, watching the lights above reflect the water. Fully clothed in their U.A. uniform, as they could just pull the water away from them to dry instantly, with their backpack the only thing on the pools edge.
They were trying to think of a special move to progress in their class, it seemed like there was a mental block preventing them from creating any train of thought for the class. Maybe a nap would help?
A sudden splash into the pool pulled them out their light slumber as a hand gripped their arm and pulled them to the surface, “what the hell?!” (Y/n) exclaimed, pulling themselves away from the perpetrator. “I just saved your ass! Is this the thanks I get?!”
They looked at Bakugou with irritation as they calmed their breathing, “saved me from what exactly?”
“From drowning, dumbass! What were you even thinking?!”
A stagnant silence.
(Y/n) snorted before bursting out into laughter, angering the blonde even further. “You think dying is funny?! Wait till I drown you myself!”
“Bakugou, what’s my quirk?” (Y/n) wheezed, trying to calm themselves down.
“What kind of question is that? Water manipulation, idiot.”
“Exactly.”
They both had a stare-down. (Y/n) with a hand on their mouth to hide the small giggles slipping out and watching Bakugou’s face morph from anger to embarrassment as he realized.
“No one must know of this.”
Cue (Y/n) planning to blackmail him.
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
Training camp was as tough as Aizawa said it would be.
The students were worked to the bone, being sucked dry of their youth and filled with soreness and pain from the excessive use of their quirks. To think (Y/n) thought they would have it easier since Aizawa had basically thrown them into the nearby lake to practice water pressure and surface tension.
They tried taking a breather for a minute but a stick would be shoved through the water and whack them on the head for doing so. Aizawa had eyes the eyes of a hawk, despite his constant dry eye, and they felt sorry for whoever ends up being his child.
Once they were sure their teacher had left his focus on them to pay attention to the rest of the class, they decided to close their eyes for a brief second. The peace was soon disrupted.
A shot of white tape wrapped around their waist and they were yanked out of the lake and onto the broad shoulders of Sero. “Look what I caught! A mermaid, huh? You’d sell for a decent price.” He chuckled.
“Only decent? Wow okay, my ego’s been bruised.” (Y/n) scoffed, dangling limply on his shoulder despite feeling their stomach bruise from the impact. “Working on making your tape waterproof?”
“Mhm, and I nailed it!”
“That you did. Now carry me properly to dinner while I nap as punishment for disrupting the one time I got away with sleeping.”
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
When the Big Three were introduced in class, (Y/n) couldn’t help but gaze with sparkles in their eyes at the indigo haired male with elf-like ears. Oh how they were imagining a fairytale themed photoshoot or outing, which was inappropriate as he was a third year and they doubt he would befriend them after observing his timid and shy nature.
But a mermaid must not leave an opportunity behind.
“Tamaki-senpai!”
The male froze in his steps, shoulders stiff and posture hunched as he trembled and turned towards the voice. (Y/n) approached him with a grin, hands behind their back as they were fidgeting in place.
“Y-yes?” His gaze was on the floor, avoiding eye contact with the first-year.
Nejire and Mirio had glanced at each other before nodding their head in agreement to eavesdrop on the conversation.
“I just wanted to say that you look so pretty! Like something out of a fairytale! I love fairytales, especially mermaids and I have a suit with a mermaid’s tail since I have a water quirk and stuff.” (Y/n) glanced at Mirio and Nejire and waved at them cheerfully.
Tamaki on the other hand had gotten red in the face at the compliment and became a stuttering mess, that’s when Nejire and Mirio decided to jump in, both very happy at the thought of talking to the cheerful student in front of them.
“He’s a bit shy so don’t mind him! You’re so precious! You look like a mermaid too, so gorgeous!” Nejire complimented and pulled at their cheek as (Y/n)’s eyes twinkled at seeing Nejire in a new light.
“H-Hado-senpai, you look like a fairy!” (Y/n) was in awe of how pretty she was, she was literally sparkling.
Mirio was chuckling in the background, “looks like we’re all like fairytales in one way huh?”
Nejire gasped and clapped her hands together, “a photoshoot dressed like that would be so cute! Don’t you think Mirio?”
“Hado-senpai I was thinking the same!”

Zhou Ye: The Wonderful Ideas of Lotte Girls // Esquire Fine photoshoot & interview ~ a really wonderful interview with Yezi!
Read rough translation of interview below: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/lY3oBM51ytlua7S8ZRdmlw
The lively character is like jumping candy, and the crisp voice is like summer honeydew. It can be a cute angel or a rebellious girl. Who wouldn't like a beautiful and free girl? We met Zhou Ye at a claw machine shop, and she caught the one she wanted five times!
Zhou Ye didn't laugh when shooting the magazine blockbuster, but she liked to laugh privately.
In the eyes of the people around, she is a simple and lively little girl, born optimistic, loves to joke, and loves to share all the fun and delicious. After catching up with the good-looking drama, she will also be ambitious to everyone, even if she encounters any troubles, she It will be resolved soon. She denied the title of "Girl's Heart"-when she was not working, she liked to lie at home and chase dramas, and science fiction and fantasy were her dishes. She enthusiastically gave an example. There is an American drama called "Stranger Things". It is about a little boy who disappeared in a small town in the United States. Everyone went to find him and found that there was an entrance to another world, exactly the same as this world. , But there is no one in that world. Such a story attracts her even more.
A few days ago, she took a four-day holiday, "very satisfied!" During the holiday, she made appointments with a few good friends for dinner, went to the playground, and watched dramas. If the vacation is longer, she would prefer to go home and stay with her family. Playing with mom and dad, playing with grandpa and grandmother, the family finds a beautiful place to go camping, and if you don’t go out, you can play mahjong with the whole family. She can stay away from looking at her mobile phone for a day.
Asked this girl who is not so girly what she wants, she said, "Now I want to accomplish everything in the moment, and every day will be better than the day before!"
Therefore, Zhou Ye, who hopes to be more progressive, raised his face and chatted with us about serious matters.
Before, people often said to me, "I like your performance of "Youth", but now everyone talks more about "Shanhe Ling". Let’s start the conversation with "The Order of Mountains and Rivers".
Gu Xiang in the play is a girl who is cold on the outside and warm on the inside. She helped Cao Weining, Zhang Chengling, and the singing sisters, but it didn't mean that she trusted them. She just felt that these people were very pitiful. Because Gu Xiang was picked up by her master when she was a child, she felt sorry for them and wanted to protect them.
She is defensive to everyone, and she will not trust anyone easily. In terms of character, Gu Xiang and I are a bit like. Both are more lively. What we don't quite resemble is our life experience and living environment.
When I first finished reading the script of "The Order of Mountains and Rivers", I loved Gu Xiang from the bottom of my heart. Gu Xiang grew up in Guigu where she was killed and beaten everywhere. Although she was lucky enough to meet Wen Kexing, the master who protected her, the rivers and lakes were sinister and Gu Xiang never really relaxed. Therefore, she can only protect herself by fierce methods. She looks acrimonious, slurs and curses, and she has to fight or kill at every turn. She looks very fierce and cruel, but her heart is really innocent and special. Kindness. When encountering people like Cao Weining, Zhang Chengling, and the singing sister Hua, Gu Xiang will rescue them and help them beat the gangsters.
Many audience friends felt that the ending of Gu Xiang and Cao Weining was too miserable when they watched "The Order of Mountains and Rivers". Gu Xiang originally didn't know what the outside world was like. After she came to the world, she met Big Brother Cao, and the two people who loved each other were about to be happy. Unexpectedly, on the day of the wedding, Gu Xiang lost her lover so much that she would fight herself Life. I am also uncomfortable with this ending. It is not easy for them to get to this day. Why can't they live well? If I were to write an ending, it would definitely be two people living together happily forever.
For me, playing Gu Xiang should be more difficult than playing. This is my first time shooting a costume drama, and also my first time shooting a martial arts drama. "Shanhe Ling" really has a lot of martial arts, because it tells the story of the rivers and lakes, so I joined the group some time before I started, and learned some moves from the martial arts masters.
In retrospect, the scene of the wedding was the most memorable. I had been shooting for three days in a row. I had been beating, killing, and hanging off Wia, and I would beat off some hair accessories from my hair. I didn't dare to hang on Wia at first, and the costume was so thick that I could easily trip on my feet. But I can’t take care of this when I shoot. This is Gu Xiang’s most emotional scene. I feel the same for Gu Xiang and can’t help crying. Until the end of my cry, I can’t tell whether my face is tears or saliva. , I hope that through this scene, everyone can feel Gu Xiang’s pain.
For me at this stage, whether it is a role that is more similar to myself or a completely different role, I am willing to give it a try. If the character of a character is very pleasing, I will have a sense of substitution when I read the script, I will like it, and I will really want to play it.
In fact, my interest in acting began after I was in college. When I was a child, I learned piano, and I was not very sensible at that time. I thought it would be fine to play the piano every day after growing up and collect tickets. After being admitted to the Beijing Film Academy, we often watch movies. When the directors see their favorite movies, they will think "I can make such a great movie in the future". I am in the acting department, so I hope I can do it in the future. Acting in a particularly powerful movie may be the influence of the school atmosphere. I still remember that I watched some old movies when I was in school. I really liked "Scent of a Woman" and Marlon Brando. He played "The Godfather" very well.
In the film school, we had a lot of opportunities to meet the director and the crew. We tried again and again, and slowly met scenes that were willing to use our young actors, and started the road to filming. I will definitely read the script several times before filming. In addition to my own role, I have to read the whole story, write a short biography of the character, and talk to everyone at the script reading meeting. For example, when shooting "Ah Cradle", I often consulted sister Haiqing and the director. In the filming of "Youth in Youth", I would also ask the director: The girl I played has such a good family, why does she bully her classmates? The director told me that because her parents had very strict education for her, she was required to be particularly good since she was a child. She was under tremendous pressure and kept suppressing it, so she vented the pressure by bullying her classmates.
When taking the play, I don't worry about people comparing my previous works or achievements, as long as my requirements for myself will not change. My request is to do my best to shape each role. Every time I finish filming a film, I will have a certain evaluation of myself, and I will also look at other people's evaluations of me, as well as the opinions given to me by my predecessors, to integrate these. Every time, I hope I can do better next time.
Up to now, I have been shooting for a few years, and I feel that I am not a talented actor, and I have to be a model worker. However, the sisters who brought me to the management team said that my biggest change and improvement is that I am more independent than before. When I first started filming, I would hide in the room and cry by myself every time I joined the group, especially wanting to go home.
Now I am more comfortable with the life of the crew than before. When I first joined the group, I still felt a little homesick. I hope to finish the filming soon, and become familiar with everyone. After work, I will play with the actors in the same group. When I was resting, I was playing with werewolf killing or something, so happy, I didn't want to kill it. I didn't want to be successful when I was filming "Shanhe Ling", and the same was true when filming "Ah Cradle". As actors, it seems that we can go to different places every time we film. In fact, there is not much time to spend in the local area, but we can eat a lot of local delicacies.
As I said just now, I want to do everything right now, and the current week is the best week.
Do you often dream? Please share a dream that is more imaginative.
Zhou Ye:
I sometimes dream. Once, I dreamed that I received an acceptance letter from an owl, took the Hogwarts Express train to the magic school to learn magical magic, visited Hogsmeade Village, and met so many new friends. .
What is your dream day like? How to spend it?
Zhou Ye:
At this stage, my dream day is to sleep in late, and after waking up, I will lie in bed and watch a drama or hang out with my friends or watch a drama.
How to arrange the dream holiday? Stay at home or go out to play?
Zhou Ye:
Of course, it is best to have two days, so you can stay at home one day and go out to play one day!
What about the journey of your dreams? With whom, where to go, and how to play?
Zhou Ye:
With your family, you can go to the beach or play paragliding.
What is your dream job announcement?
Zhou Ye:
Go to Universal Studios to shoot hahahaha, I really want to go!
What kind of "dream skills" do you want to have?
Zhou Ye:
Teleport!
Which era is the dream era? why?
Zhou Ye:
Now, now is the best time. Grasp the moment.
