Astro observations: Health aspects from the 6th house 💫
6th house in Aries: Be mindful of strong reactions, impulses and emotions as these could trigger high blood pressure, stress or unwanted headaches. Possible problems associated with the adrenal glands if health is not good. The person could be nearsighted/farsighted. Teeth issues and sensitive gums are common with this placement.
6th house in Taurus: Be careful with ‘burnout’ and try to keep a healthy work-life balance. The individual is prone to respiratory conditions, jaw and neck pain/problems, weight gain (associated with thyroid issues). Thyroid disease. Problems with your voice or throat. Take it easy and follow a rhythm that honors your needs.
6th house in Gemini: Allergies, infections, asthma, cough, breathing issues. Arms, hands and fingers might be sensitive. Anxiety and nervousness caused by too many unorganized/unwanted thoughts. Be careful with hand, arm and/or shoulder injuries.
6th house in Cancer: Sensitive breasts/chest area. Inflammation associated with water/fluid retention. Pay close attention to your salt and fat consumption. Intolerance to different ingredients. It is vital for individuals with this placement to express their emotions as this can feel like a detox process for a 6th house cancer.
6th house in Leo: Hear what your heart is telling you. Don’t let stress or anger take you 'over the edge'. Similar to Aries in this house, it is common for the native to suffer from high blood pressure if a balanced lifestyle is not followed; a healthy diet will help this native tremendously. Be careful with hernias and your spine. Back pain/injuries. Spend more time outside.
6th house in Virgo: Food sensitivities. Problems with digestion. Pay attention to sugar, fats, starches and the way your body reacts to them. Pancreatitis. Bloating associated with food intolerances. Meditation is recommended to calm an active mind and a healthy relationship with food will help with digestive issues.
6th house in Libra: Lumbar pain. Problems with the lower back. Sensitivity to salt. Kidney stones. Insulin resistance. Diabetes. Partnerships have a big influence in your life; stress or strong (negative) emotions resulting from these relationships can have a big impact in your health.
6th house in Scorpio: Constipation. Bladder/Urinary tract infections. Issues with libido/sex hormones. Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder; can cause pain or/and a burning sensation when peeing). Problems with the colon and elimination systems. Let go of any guilt/shame around your sexuality and keep a healthy relationship with your needs.
6th house in Sagittarius: Issues associated with the pituitary gland. Hip mobility problems, pain or injuries. Obesity. For optimal liver health, alcohol and stress levels need to be monitored and, if possible, reduced to a minimum. Yoga can help ease stiffness around the hips and thighs.
6th house in Capricorn: Knee pain. Injuries/procedures can cause significant scarring. Hair loss or scalp issues. Arthritis and joint pain. If your body is telling you to slow down, honor it and rest. Movement in every way is beneficial for the native. Be careful with your bones.
6th house in Aquarius: Varicose veins. Frequent cramps. Arteries and veins might need to be monitored closely, as the native is prone to circulation problems. Calf pain. Stress, nervousness, anxiety, insomnia. Be careful with addictions. Stay hydrated.
6th house in Pisces: Problems with the lymphatic system. Feet pain, inflammation, discomfort, injuries. Plantar fasciitis. Be careful with falls. Sleep problems, nightmares. Sadness that can lead into deep depression. Time alone is necessary. Make sure you’re getting the hours of sleep that your body requires to work harmoniously.
Stay tuned for more! :)

Ruling Anatomy: Aries governs the head, cerebral hemispheres, upper jaw, eyes, and face. The brain, skull, and facial features fall under its dominion. The energy of Aries infuses the thinking process and perception, contributing to sharp, commonsensical thinking and acute senses.
Health Connections: Individuals with a dominant Aries influence may experience issues like headaches, migraines, sinus conditions, nosebleeds, and neuralgia. Their active nature and energetic disposition demand a well-balanced diet for sustained health and vitality. Aries’ association with the head often leads to distinctive facial features, birthmarks, and scars. Additionally, their inclination towards risk-taking behavior might result in intriguing scars from past injuries.
Challenges: Under planetary afflictions, Aries natives might contend with brain fever, dizziness, inflammation of the cerebral hemispheres, and other brain-related ailments. Excessive blood flow to the head can cause varied symptoms like red, sore eyes, vertigo, and a tendency towards irritability and impatience.
Taurus: Endurance and Steadfastness in Health
Ruling Anatomy: Taurus presides over the neck, ears, throat, larynx, tonsils, thyroid gland, and cerebellum. It also governs the vocal cords, taste buds, and the area surrounding the neck.
Health Connections: Taureans exhibit endurance and steadfastness, yet they might be prone to ailments such as colds, sore throats, swollen glands, stiff necks, and minor neck injuries. Their penchant for good food might lead to weight concerns as they age, requiring discipline in diet and moderate exercise. The thyroid gland’s influence can significantly impact weight issues.
Characteristics: Taurus risings often possess distinct neck features, and their sturdy build with a strong posture sets them apart. They may have darker hair and eyes, with naturally curly locks. Under the influence of Venus, they tend to possess symmetrical and attractive facial features.

Cancer: Nurturing Instincts and Emotional Health
Ruling Anatomy: Cancer governs the breasts, diaphragm, womb, lymphatic system, vagina, stomach, and right eye. It embodies nurturing, motherhood, and the Moon principle, associated with substance change but lacking vitality.
Health Connections: Cancerians might encounter weight gain in later years due to their fondness for food. Emotional stress, anxiety, and tension often cause digestive problems such as ulcers, gastritis, and digestive upsets. They might struggle with gall bladder issues, nausea, and gas pains, while also being susceptible to overindulgence in alcohol.
Characteristics: Cancer individuals exhibit a nurturing nature akin to motherhood. Their susceptibility to digestive issues and emotional stress underscores the impact of their emotional state on physical health.
Challenges: Afflicted Cancerians may suffer from dropsy, indigestion, and sclerosis. Symptoms such as dizziness, syncope, and watery or congested nose and sinuses can manifest, reflecting the sign's vulnerabilities.

if dairy is giving you digestive issues, or you have digestive issues in general, i highly recommend incorporating more probiotics into your diet. kombucha, sauerkraut, miso, or even dairy based probiotic sources like yogurt, kefir, and some cheeses can have a massive impact.
genetically, most mongolians are lactose intolerant. they still are able to consume relatively high quantities of dairy because the probiotics in yogurt and fermented milk break down the lactose both in the fermenting process, and in the gut biome.

You've mentioned a few times I think that an anacondrai's diet usually consists of larger fauna, and I was wondering how much or even if that would impact Kai and Skylor's eating habits. Would they have different nutritional requirements than when they were human, or is it mostly just the quantity of food they need that changes since they’re a lot larger now?
I have mentioned that, yeah! I don't know the gritty details of anaconda or even human nutritional requirements. However, we see Pythor eat stuff that isn't meat, so I believe Anacondrai aren't exclusive carnivores like real life Anacondas. They do, however, have a preference for meat because of the ease of access for fish, turtles, frogs.
(I'm now imagining Skylor trying to decipher ancient Anacondrai recipes from old ruins and such on Chen's island. Maybe I'll try and come up with some of those)
I assume that Kai and Skylor's diet, in terms of their nutritional needs, largely stays the same; they just have to eat more. There's the sensory issues in the time right after their transformation and potentially even discomfort during eating or digestion (though that might also be me projecting my current health onto them lmao) but, yeah, the only real change in their diet is the amount they have to eat.
They enjoy more meat and seafood in their meals as well, but that's not necessarily a dietary requirement.

Healthy bodies for healthy living: 10 tips to stay healthy and fit.
1. Ensure Adequate Sleep
Maintaining a healthy body requires sufficient sleep. Inadequate sleep negatively impacts metabolism, mood, concentration, motor skills, stress hormones, cardiovascular health, and the immune system. Aim for 6-8 hours of sleep to support the body's healing, repair, and overall well-being.
2. Adopt a Well-Balanced Diet
Staying fit and healthy is closely tied to consuming a well-balanced diet. This involves incorporating a variety of foods in appropriate quantities, tailored to individual needs, and guided by medical advice. Prioritize easily digestible foods with the right proportions of proteins, vitamins, and minerals, steering clear of junk food and opting for fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
Tumblr media
3. Engage in Daily Exercise
Regular exercise is crucial for maintaining fitness. Whether it's a half-hour walk or a full-hour workout, exercise aids in weight management, improves blood circulation, and enhances muscle fitness. Combining daily exercise with a balanced diet is particularly beneficial for addressing issues like fatigue, stress, and depression.
Tumblr media
4. Hydrate with Water
Staying healthy is simplified by staying hydrated. Aim for at least 16 glasses of water daily to support digestion, maintain energy levels, and naturally eliminate toxins through the skin and urine. Let water serve as the natural cleanser for your organs.
5. Purify Your Body
Detoxify your body by embracing a diet rich in fruits and juices, avoiding spices. This cleansing process purifies the bloodstream, eliminates toxins, and promotes a healthier, lighter, and rejuvenated body.
6. Never Skip Meals
To stay fit and healthy, especially in terms of maintaining a healthy weight, avoid skipping meals, particularly breakfast. Regular meals ensure sustained energy levels, preventing overeating later in the day.
7. Say No to Smoking and Drinking
Maintain fitness and health by steering clear of addictive habits like smoking and drinking. Cigarettes contain harmful compounds leading to serious health issues, while excessive alcohol consumption can result in high blood pressure, liver conditions, and memory impairment.
Tumblr media
8. Embrace Yoga and Meditation
Achieve fitness at home through the practice of yoga and meditation. Research indicates that these practices simplify thought processes, foster internal healing, and bring about positive hormonal and bodily changes, aiding in stress and depression management.
Tumblr media
9. Integrate Probiotics
Prioritize gut health for overall fitness, as a healthy gut supports immunity, heart health, and mental well-being. Research suggests that taking probiotics, beneficial bacteria offering health benefits, contributes to maintaining a balanced digestive system.

Potentially stupid question, but I genuinely can not tell the medical truth from BS on this: Is “leaky gut” a real thing? It sets off all my alarm bells, but two separate doctors have mentioned it to me so now I don’t know what to believe.
Kind of? But kind of not?
It gets used a lot in a lot of woo circles, and especially for people who have gut-related disorders like Celiac, IBS, and Crohn's, but may also be connected to other autoimmune issues? But there's not actually a hell of a lot of evidence for it?
Like I think a part of this is a terminology issue between doctors and patients; "leaky gut" doesn't have a terribly specific meaning but there is a theorized higher pass-through rate for under-processed nutrients and molecules from the gut in certain populations? Basically possibly in people who have damaged intestinal lining there's a possibility that some nutrients or byproducts of food breakdown are passed through the gut barrier more than they should be? But it's hard to measure and highly variable and basically if your doctor is recommending action about a leaky gut it might be time to get a second opinion from somebody else because in terms of "what can you do about it" there's a bunch of shrugging all around.
What gets me is that it seems like you could just call it malabsorption (possibly you are absorbing more of some things and less of others and taking in the incorrect amount in either direction is malabsorption, right? ). That is a known impact of gut disorders; incompletely digested nutrients entering the bloodstream seems like it would obviously be a part of the same mechanism that prevents you from absorbing complete nutrition?
Like, 'leaky gut' is not in and of itself a diagnosis and so far as we can tell that it does sometimes happen we have an incomplete and unactionable understanding of why it happens. So if you've got someone saying "here take this garcenia cambogia for your leaky gut" that person is a quack, but if you have someone saying "yeah, there's an association between Crohn's and lupus and you may want to watch for XYZ symptoms and make sure you're getting enough fiber in your diet and take supplementary vitamins because you may have problems getting all your nutrients from food" that is not as likely to be bullshit.

Nutrition Basics for a Healthy Lifestyle: What You Need to Know
Introduction:
Nutrition is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle. The food you eat not only fuels your body but also impacts your overall well-being. Understanding the basics of nutrition can help you make informed choices about what to eat, leading to improved health and vitality.
Balanced Diet: A balanced diet includes a variety of foods from all food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy (or dairy alternatives). Each group provides essential nutrients your body needs to function properly.
Fruits and Vegetables: Aim to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables at each meal. These foods are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, which support immune function and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Grains: Choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, oats, and whole wheat bread over refined grains. Whole grains are higher in fiber and nutrients, promoting better digestion and long-term health.
Protein Foods: Include a variety of protein sources in your diet, such as lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, lentils, tofu, and nuts. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues, as well as for producing hormones and enzymes.
Dairy (or Alternatives): Dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese provide calcium, vitamin D, and protein. If you're lactose intolerant or follow a vegan diet, opt for fortified plant-based alternatives like almond milk, soy yogurt, or tofu.
Portion Control: Paying attention to portion sizes is crucial for maintaining a healthy weight and preventing overeating. Use visual cues like your hand or everyday objects to estimate portion sizes:
A serving of meat or fish should be about the size of your palm.
A serving of grains or starchy foods should be about the size of your fist.
A serving of fruits or vegetables should be about the size of a tennis ball.
A serving of fats or oils should be about the size of your thumb.
Hydration: Staying hydrated is essential for overall health and well-being. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and limit sugary drinks like soda and fruit juices. Herbal teas and infused water can add variety to your hydration routine.
Limit Added Sugars and Processed Foods: Excess sugar consumption is linked to various health issues, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Limit foods and beverages high in added sugars, such as candy, soda, pastries, and sugary cereals. Instead, satisfy your sweet tooth with naturally sweet foods like fruits.Additionally, minimize your intake of processed and ultra-processed foods, which often contain unhealthy fats, excessive sodium, and additives. Opt for whole, minimally processed foods whenever possible.
Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to hunger and fullness cues, and eat mindfully. Slow down and savor each bite, and stop eating when you feel satisfied, not stuffed. Eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full can help maintain a healthy weight and prevent overeating.
Conclusion:
By following these nutrition basics, you can support your overall health and well-being, boost energy levels, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Remember, small changes can lead to big improvements in your health over time. Start with simple adjustments to your diet and build on them gradually for long-term success.

The Impact Of Nutrition On Gastrointestinal Health: Latest Research Findings
Tumblr media
In the intricate dance of health and wellness, the role of nutrition cannot be overstated, particularly when it comes to the intricate workings of the gastrointestinal system. At Healix Hospitals, we stand at the forefront of understanding how the foods we consume impact our gut health, drawing from the latest research findings to guide our patients toward digestive wellness.
Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of gastrointestinal health, exploring the profound influence of nutrition and unveiling the latest discoveries in the field.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did You Know?
The human gut is home to approximately 100 trillion microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiota, which play a crucial role in digestion, immunity, and overall health.
The gut-brain axis, a bidirectional communication network between the gastrointestinal tract and the brain, highlights the intricate connection between nutrition, mental health, and gastrointestinal function.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why Is Nutrition Vital for Gastrointestinal Health?
Digestive System Functionality
The foods we consume directly influence the structure and function of our digestive system. A balanced diet rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals supports efficient digestion and regular bowel movements, preventing issues like constipation and bloating.
Gut Microbiota Composition
Nutrition profoundly impacts the diversity and balance of our gut microbiota, comprising trillions of microorganisms that play a crucial role in digestion, immunity, and overall health. A diet high in fiber and fermented foods nourishes beneficial gut bacteria, promoting a robust microbiome ecosystem.
Prevention of Digestive Disorders
Poor dietary choices can contribute to the development of various GI disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Opting for a gut-friendly diet can help prevent or manage these conditions, reducing discomfort and improving quality of life.
Inflammation Reduction
Certain nutrients possess anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate inflammation in the digestive tract. Incorporating foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and phytonutrients can mitigate inflammation, potentially reducing the risk of chronic digestive ailments.
Enhanced Nutrient Absorption
A healthy GI tract is essential for optimal nutrient absorption. By consuming a diverse array of nutrient-dense foods, we ensure that our bodies receive the vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients necessary for overall well-being.
Support for the Intestinal Barrier
The integrity of the intestinal barrier, which regulates the passage of substances from the gut into the bloodstream, is crucial for preventing harmful pathogens and toxins from entering the body. Certain nutrients, such as glutamine and zinc, support the maintenance of a healthy intestinal barrier, protecting against leaky gut syndrome and related issues.
Nutrition plays a fundamental role in maintaining the intricate balance of gastrointestinal (GI) health, encompassing a myriad of processes from digestion to the composition of gut microbiota. A holistic approach to nutrition can significantly impact GI function, offering a pathway towards enhanced well-being and disease prevention.
Dietary Influence on Digestive Processes:
The composition of our diet profoundly affects the structure and function of the digestive system. Consuming a diet abundant in fiber, found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, facilitates regular bowel movements, prevents constipation, and fosters a diverse gut microbiome. Conversely, a diet high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats can disrupt GI function, potentially leading to gastrointestinal disturbances.

The Holistic Approach of Islam to Health and Lifestyle
Tumblr media
Within the all encompassing teachings of Islam lies a profound guide to well-being. This article explores the holistic approach of Islam towards health, encompassing dietary habits, dental hygiene, and moderation in various aspects of life. Through engaging insights, we delve into the beauty of Islam’s solutions to health issues, backed by references that illuminate the wisdom behind these practices.
The Significance of Dietary Choices in Islam
A Balanced eating habit in Islam encourages a balanced approach to eating, eating only when one is hungry to avoid overindulging, and advocating that one-third of the stomach be filled with food, one-third with water, and leaving one-third empty. This principle promotes moderation, aiding digestion, and preventing overeating.
Islamic teachings warn against indulging in excessive eating, recognizing the negative impact on physical health. The beauty of this guidance lies in promoting mindfulness and appreciation for the sustenance provided by Allah by being appreciative and thankful to God after every meal and drink.
Children of Adam, dress well whenever you are at worship, and eat and drink [as We have permitted] but do not be extravagant: God does not like extravagant people. [Quran 7:31]
Dental Hygiene in Islam: The Miracle of the Miswak
The Miswak: Nature’s Toothbrush Islam encourages the use of the miswak, a teeth-cleaning twig from the Salvadora persica tree, as a prophetic practice. Scientific studies endorse the efficacy of the miswak in maintaining oral hygiene and preventing dental issues.
Narrated by Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 12)
Moderation in Red Meat Consumption
Islamic teachings advocate moderation in red meat consumption, recognising its nutritional value while cautioning against excessive intake. This guidance aligns with modern nutritional recommendations for a balanced and healthy diet (see references below).
Hadith: “The stomach is the home of disease, and prevention is half of health.”
Fasting: A Detox for the Soul and Body
The Spiritual and Physical Benefits of Fasting: Islamic fasting during the month of Ramadan offers spiritual purification and serves as a detox for the body. Scientific research supports the positive impact of intermittent fasting on overall health.
O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you — as it was for those before you1 — so perhaps you will become mindful ˹of Allah˺. [Quran 2:183]
He is the One Who produces gardens — both cultivated and wild1 — and palm trees, crops of different flavours, olives, and pomegranates — similar ˹in shape˺, but dissimilar ˹in taste˺. Eat of the fruit they bear and pay the dues at harvest, but do not waste. Surely He does not like the wasteful. [Quran 6:141]
The beauty of Islam shines through its holistic approach to health, offering timeless guidance on dietary habits, dental hygiene, and lifestyle choices. Rooted in the teachings of the Quran and the practices of Prophet Muhammad, these principles not only promote physical well-being but also foster a connection between individuals and the natural world. As we embrace the wisdom of Islamic solutions to health issues, let us recognise the profound impact they can have on our overall well-being, reflecting the holistic beauty of Islam and it’s impact on every facet of our lives.

Chiron dear, I really hope life is going easier on you, and that you know you are missed 💛
For the weirdly specific and unrelated asks : 2, 3, 4, 7, 14, 15, 18, 25 and 28 ? 👀
Thank you my friend!! School (and life in general) is kicking my butt but I'm answering these to procrastinate so thank you for giving me an excuse not to do my homework! Also, this is going to be long but you should expect long answers from me by now lmao (tucks ridiculously long religious Hob posts out of sight)
2. thoughts on veganism?
I could rant for a while about veganism and the harm its done for the nutrition and self-esteem issues that it perpetrates in those who are hardcore believers in veganism as well as the environmental impacts it has, but I'll try to keep this as short as possible and say that I really don't like the vegan movement as a whole. It's almost completely unsustainable, entirely unhealthy for the majority of the population, and more harmful for the planet than eating meat ever could be. Its carbon footprint is enormous because everything vegan has to be shipped vast distances to its main audience and anything labeled "faux" (faux fur, faux leather, etc) is just plastic, which is worse for the environment than fur or leather (both of which will last for far longer than shitty plastic knock-offs). As a dietary craze, I despise veganism (like I despise all fad diets) and I think anyone considering a vegan diet should have a very long conversation with a nutritionist before even attempting it.
3. a specific color that gives you the ick?
I don't like most shades of orange or yellow and I'm very particular about the shades of pink that I like. I'm definitely more drawn to the cooler side of the color wheel, though I love a good red.
4. mythical creature you think/believe is real?
I want to say ghosts but I feel like that's the easy answer so I'll say Mothman. It's less of a belief and more of a hope tbh; Mothman is my favorite cryptid and I really do hope that he's out there somewhere causing havoc and flying into light posts. I would be terrified to see him in person, but the idea of him is very cute.
7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?
All of them!! Aquariums are my favorite places in the world! I have a running, ranked list of every aquarium I've ever visited and I always look up aquariums to visit whenever I travel. My personal favorite are the big ocean tanks; I love any tank that I can sit in front of and completely forget that I'm in an aquarium at all. The Georgia Aquarium has a magnificent ocean tank that has two whale sharks and a glass tunnel through it, so it's very firmly at the top of my list.
14. do you think you’re dehydrated?
I don't think I'm dehydrated, I know I am... I spent the last three days at the beach drinking sea water instead of fresh water (on accident, I promise lmao) and I haven't fully recovered
15. rank the methods of death: freezing, burning, drowning
drowning, burning, freezing. Drowning is the fastest (I think, don't quote me on that lol), freezing is the slowest. All three are terrible ways to die and I'm terrified of all of them.
18. your boba/tea order?
I usually play around with my boba order everywhere I go (especially if they have specials, I usually go for one of those) but I tend towards fruit teas with popping pearls instead of tapioca pearls. I don't like the texture of tapioca in my mouth (literally makes me gag) and I'm lactose intolerant so milk teas do unspeakable things to my digestive system. If possible, I also get my boba with less ice because it makes eating the popping pearls a lot easier.
25. would you say you have good taste in music?
I don't know anyone who would say no to this... if you don't like your own taste in music, listen to different music lol
28. last meal on earth?
There's a chef who cooks at a restaurant in Emerald Isle, NC called Clawson's and I'd eat anything that came off of his grill. Genuinely the best meal I've ever had and I would do just about anything to go back and order off of his menu again. I don't care what he'd make; I'd eat it for my last meal and leave this life satisfied.
This was so much fun to answer, thank you!!
From this ask game!

Shout out to everyone else who has stupid digestive issues and every life change you do or don't make for it.
For me, 98% of changes I make feel worth it, but I know for others it's not.
But every time I spend a few days not at home on my very specific eating habits and schedules; I feel it and I hate it.
Normally people don't treat peanut butter and dates as a main part of their diet to the point where a jar of peanut butter going up in price is worthy of crying over bc it fucks the whole budget and you do in fact budget to buy both pitted dates and dried apricots in bulk.
Normal people don't treat yoghurt as a holy grail because your digestive system is so messed up that daily probiotics are also a life saver.
And peanut butter, Up&Go's and protein supplements worthy of the highest of fitness bros? Yeah; that's because I can't eat red meat regularly or meat regularly because my body refuses to tolerate it.
Do I take supplements like a vegan should because I have to eat vegetarian and eggs are expensive so I use cheese and milk as primary sources of calories? Yes yes I sometimes do when I can afford supplements; or more accurately I buy foods and juice with supplements... sometimes specifically made for elderly people who struggle with pills and food intake because I'm poor and that's the easiest way to do it. (And generally, they do taste good)
Do I live off coffee, dates, apricots, fibre supplements and slippery elm and lemon&honey tea because my body likes to refuse to digest food and I don't want to pay for or take laxative pills and the drinks are gross and expensive? Yes, unfortunately.
Do I also have to physically massage my entire digestive tract three times a day to physically move it because my muscles don't work? Unfortunately.
Does all of this lowkey scare me because I do want to get pregnant one day and I have no clue how that'll impact it? Yes, very much yes. Will be eating so much gentle high fiber food in the third trimester if I ever get pregnant knowing that's coming (not just because pregnancy... specifically for postpartum. If you know, you know).
Like do I feel incredibly sick and have for the last two days because of the changes while I was gone? Yes, it was awful.
Do I know have to fix my entire body because of it over the next two weeks? Yep, unfortunately. While having very little money to my name.
Did it once again highlight how much energy, effort and time my body steals from me? Yes, I spent a full hour and a bit on the toilet because of my stomach being a dick yesterday before therapy while my mother was out on a walk. And a good 30 tonight low key crying in pain which is fun.
I will also acknowledge that there's two sides of this:
I can spend the hours of planning and preparing and working with my body, acknowledging that it will never function normally but fuck I can try my best to live pain free.
Or...
I can do what I did while I stayed with others this weekend and pretend that I am fine and that food is not a problem... and pay for that in pain and constipation and bloating and all the other fun issues that come with my conditions.
And I personally choose change my lifestyle because I live with enough issues; but I have friends who choose 'normalcy' all the time not just for convenience on mother's day weekends.
But it's hard and it sucks and I can't get laid when I'm off my routine because it's too fucking painful. I have blood pressure spikes and drops when I'm off my routine. Hell; I never feel more dysphoric than when I'm off my routine because suddenly the pain reminds me of everything and I'm so tired my mental health drops like an avalanche on Mt Everest; fast, hard, all consuming and deadly.
And this is one part of my chronic illness management.
This is only 1 change.
It's not the nerve pain management, it's not the mental health management, it's not the connective tissue issues, the dislocations... anything else that impacts my life.
It's just the impacts my stomach and intestines have on my dietary requirements and the extra symptoms they add and exacerbate when I don't maintain a specific schedule for management that took years to learn and control and occasionally fluctuates.
Like I will never live a normal life and it's hard af but it's still mine and I want to live it.
But there's more than just me and we all deserve the recognition and acknowledgment for how much it takes and what fucking badasses we are for surviving such bullshit.

Today marks the anniversary of being Diagnosed with Diabetes. I had been feeling shitty for quite some time beforehand and in retrospective, the signs were all symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes.
Theres no weaselling out of responsibility, taking the easy way out of blaming genetics or unfortunate circumstances, the diabetes was a devil of my own making. A result of imcredibly destructive and unhealthy lifestyle choices over a prolonged time.
I still remember the day My gp's asistant called and insisted on a fast appointment. It was a bit unusual, I just thought it would be another "be aware of the future impact of your choices" pep talknfro my doc. It wasnt, he flatout, no mercy smacked the diagnosis into my face. An incredibly harsh, yet effective wakeup call. Instantly Inwent home, poured all tge coke in my fridge into the toilet (bottles were opened and prepared withnfreshly squeezed lime juice, the closed ones i had i donated to a coworker) and gave away all overly unhealthy food items i had in my possession.
Called and made a Diabetologist appointment the next morning. hbpa 11 % Hardcore bad. I was enrolled in a course for Type 2 Diabetics, I had to attend once a week over a few months. I learned the basics and got taught a few tricks and was told that for starters, just switching out things for healthy alternatives is fine, change needs to come slow, carefully. I was probably the only one who 100% religiously followed the courses lessons and brought weekly blood sugar measurement values in.
What was the most incredibly hard to pull off change was carbs. You dont realize how carb heavy your diet is until you look to change it. I tried to keep my pure carb content at 100g daily, maximum!!! That led me to stick with a very heavy protein and low fiber diet. Naturally that took only a short time till that caused a whole row od side issues i still struggle with now (to a much lesser degree, but still).
This april things hit a dead stop and over a period of 1 month I hit the lows and highs of digestive problems too grtesque, horrifying and panful to publically disclose. It was at times so bad it drove me to a place too dark too describe. But witg perseverance, help from my friends, physicians and even coworkers I made it through that time aswell.
I stll occasionally struggle with issues and have a bad say now and again, often to the detriment of my mental state. But thats also something I am now seeing someone about.
One year later from the startbof everything, I sit in my favorite cafe and reflect. It was an insanely eventful and difficult year. A year defined by willpower, change, endurance, struggle, pain but also by health, new perspective and positivity. All in all, I think its been a rather positive change altogether. I lost more than 60 kg over this year and my hbpa is now 4.8% (really excellent for a diabetic) and even my blood pressure has stabilized by alot.
I thank my friends, family, coworkers, therapists and all physicians who stood by me during this difficult time. I sincerely could not have done it wthout all of you. As I sit here in my cafe, I lift my triple espresso (no milk foam) and have a cup for all of you and hope for a better future and more positive change in the coming times.
So take it from me: always have enough fiber in your diet and use healthy alternatives wherever possible (wholegrain pasta instead of white flour)
