Street Huff

Chaos and anarchy filled the roughest city streets I had ever seen. It was a place of lurkers and whispering shadows, where you could get robbed or kidnapped at any corner. People filled every square, every street, and every alley. Crowds gathered to puff on the infamous contraband inhalers they called “huff,” some drank stiff cocktails, and others got their buzz in boisterous chatter. Colorful street lights contrasted the grim, graffitied tunnels hidden from street view and reflected off the dampness of the avenue’s cracked pavement.

Yet I knew, in the paradox of daylight, it was a place some called home - where families raised children, shopped the local markets, held celebrations with strangers, and where teens loitered for way too long. Amidst the madness, the few people that I gravitated towards were the outliers bearing normality - the man who jogged down the crowded street to his place of work, projecting music off a portable speaker; the family men who were cleaning their cars in the cool of night; the studious in observant solitude; or the kind who would pleasantly smile at newcomers.

I entered a small, tucked-away shop for purchasing, little aware of an awaiting and dark encounter. Outside the front doors, young troublemakers grouped and waited for their next victim. Through the window, I saw them provocatively touching my car, laughing and crossing their arms, beckoning my response. I burst out the doors to confront them while shouting and establishing my defense as we circled each other! They had supposedly hacked the ATM to dispense my W2s, but I did not fall for their outdated tricks. I took the first chance and rapidly scrambled into my car, inserting my keys into the ignition as they hammered my windows with their fists! I revved the engine and chased them out of the gritty parking lot - out of one pocket of the concrete nest and into another.

A man sat in a chair detached from the rest of the crowds, nearly in the street, but he was still laughing with part of the group. Puffing on an original cigarette, he observed as the pregaming cacophony rose for their event - huffing, drinking, and devolving insanely. The man jogging to work seemed to part everyone with ease, gliding down the center of the street as if he did this every day, earning him a particular shot of respect from his community. I followed shortly behind him and his rap music, peering through the staircases and empty gaps in the buildings, through the flashing lights and mobs, and past the broken glass and piles of garbage. It was time I began searching for my client.

I met him on the sidewalk and curiously admired his individual style that was inspired by the streets behind me. He had a buzz cut, was white, lean, tatted, shorter than me, and had on an open heavy coat with casual streetwear underneath. I approached him to begin our interview, and as we made our ways through the back entrance and halls to his shop, he began his tale. I listened intently to his personal struggles of addiction to huff, of overcoming, of escaping the streets, and the responsibility he assumed to gradually clear the streets of its dangers.

"I was stuck, and the only way I could get out of it was to do something to get rid of it," he confessed. I commended his actions, feeling at ease with the softness in his voice and the tenderness in his eyes - then almost wishing for friendship.

Albeit the streets were dirty once again, neither of us spoke into that sobering detail as he set up his shop for another busy day. I peered distantly through the gated windows as the sun gracefully rose and bathed the waking city in hues of blood. In the sobering light, I questioned to myself how these city blocks stood firm amid the massive sea of lost, reckless, and impulsive souls that frequented the dark streets. What I realized, that standing behind me, was an example of the people who bring hope, resolution, growth, and history to the same community.

Kiribaku Fic Recs!

I wanted to do a list of fanfics that are really close to my heart!

Sorry if it is too long but I wanted it all in one place.

My First One And Only by Quirkless-One (BlackBarBooks)

This is one of my favorites. Bakugou and Kirishima discover all stages of relationship together. They both have no idea what they're doing, but they figure it out with the power of love! It’s unfinised, but it has 26 chapters out already.

houdini by chonideno

This one is really intense! Kirishima and Bakugou are locked together in the closet because they play the game of seven minutes in heaven. The tension between these two is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Heartbeat Thunder by Shippeh

It’s an Omegaverse fic. Kirishima is an Alpha and he is addicted to suppressants because he had a really dangerous rut. Bakugou is an Omega and helps Kirishima with his struggles. Obviusly they fall in love during it.

Spice Season by Shippeh

This is an direct sequel to Heartbeat Thunder. This one is much heavier, deals with serious topics such as pregnancy and miscarriage. I cried so much reading this, so be prepared for feels!

Outshining the Sun by thesweetestnerd

Class 2-A are going on a school trip. Bakugou and Kirishima are in love with each other, but neither is aware of it. They struggle with jealousy and miscommunication. Things get complicated when Mina confesses to Kirishima and he agrees because she's too nice to hurt her feelings.

Another Omegaverse by amazing Shippeh! This one is so good. Kirishima is an Omega and a relly cute barista. Alpha Bakugou is ready to do anything to win his heart. But Kirishima has a dark past and a lot of issues, but Bakugou is here to help him go through it.

I think this one is my favorite. Please read this! Bakugou and Kirishima are all grown up and married. But they are in a middle of argument when they get hit by a quirk that throws them back in time. They have to deal with difficult emotions while trying to go back to the present. They are so in love with each other, and their relationship is really healthy! My heart was sqeezed so many times by this fic!

Twelve Fifty-One by Trenchcoatkitten

Another one of my favorites! This is a Band AU! Kirishima is the lead singer in the band and Bakugou is the replacement bassist. Kirishima is head over heels (who can blame him, Bakugou has piercings!) Also, they sing with each other!

(Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder) FALSE by dragontrappedinhumanskin

This is pure fluff! Bakugou and Kirishima are hit with a quirk that forces them to stay really close to each other. Yeah, they have to spend every second with each other. They dance together and share clothes! It’s really sweet.

A matter of chemistry by mcshamey

This is a College AU. Kirishima share chemistry classes with this grumpy but hot guy and he decides that he will befriend him. Turns out they become more than friends. It’s basically fluff with a little drama at the end, but nothing big.

When Love is Gone by Bryan

This fic will break your heart, I warn you! Bakugou is an old man and he is dying. He records his thoughts about his memories with Kirishima. They were in love but broke up when they were younger. Kirishima moved on and started a family with another man. But Bakugou never stopped loving him.

Bakugou is an trangender ballet dancer. He overworked and ends up with leg contusion. Kirishima is his lovely physical therapist and helps him recover. (And they fall in love)

Bakugou and Kirishima are divorced. After Kirishima’s grandma dies, they are forced to fix a cabin together and deal with their feelings for each other. This fic is very mature and I loved the different approach of their characters.

This is an AU where everything is basically the same but Kirishima dicides to not apply to UA. He meets Bakugou and they develop an connection.

This fic is very angsty but it has fluffy moments as well.

Kirishima's Cocktails by Stitch_In_Time

Bakugou is depressed and his life is falling apart. He meets a bright plumber who helps him rebuild his bar. They fall in love but Bakugou still has to deal with his mental issues.

Cute Coffe Shop AU where Bakugou is a pro hero and Kirishima is a fanboy barista.

Soulmate AU where you can feel your soulmates pain and Bakugou begins to experience panic attacks that are not his own.

Another Soulmate AU where first words are written on your body. Kirishima doesn’t have them. He meets Bakugou who has hearing problems and doesn’t speak.

Things I want from X-Men Comics

Diversity, not just, hey here’s a brown xmen power with racist superpowers, and here’s a girl, and here’s a brown girl whose power is LUST. Isn’t. Diversity in countries, skin, gender, sexuality, body shape.

I want mutants dealing with confusing sexual feelings for same gender and might cause their crush’s clothes to set on fire. I want a mutant getting kicked out of a house not because of being able to make horrifying bone swords, but because she wants to date girls.

I want actual gender fluid xmen who don’t want to go by he or she. Who their “neutral” form isn’t a pin-up girl (Mystique’s rock it don’t get me wrong). And debating about calling themselves ‘xmen’ when most of them are female. And a running gag on calling themselves x-mostlyhuman.

Speaking of body shape, I want a traditionally built Storm. Who looks like she would be a goddess of Africa, big and large and proud of it. Hell, I’ll take xmen who look like anything other than models for Victoria Secret and Tommy Hilfinger. I want curves and different heights and muscles in weird places.

I want actual debate between xmen over the word mutant, using it as a slur or something empowering. I want generational differences on what it means to be a mutant.

I want cultural influences on mutant abilities.

I want to see the actual downside to every mutant ability. For geniuses, I want to see them feel like they’re never smart enough, or get too focused they can’t be social. I want unhealthy coping skills because they need to control one thing, and it’s not their destructive mutant power, but they can control how little they eat. I want to see a mutant who can only see everything in red.

I want to read about xmen who can ‘pass’ and those that can’t and those that don’t want to. I want mutant parades and debates and just mutants as actual comparison to minorities in the world.

Things I want from an Avengers Comic.
