Finally got some fucking motivation

So, finally, I'm explaining the "Human AU" cause I'm happy my post got attention. And, please, I don't wanna sound cringe or anything but seriously, thank you for the amount of attention I've gotten over my posts, I really appreciate it. Now, time to get going! This story follows our soppy wet cat, dear darling Pomni, who's on a hunt for a part-time job because her job at C&A is not getting her enough money and she can't live on ramen and tap water forever. So, she gets a job at "The Amazing Digital Circus", a circus that uses modern-day technology like holograms and sound effects in its weekly shows. She joins and meets her now co-workers. There's Gangle, your classic introverted theater kid. Zooble, the puzzle master who despite her "I am done with your shit" behavior, is surprisingly good at entertaining kids. Kinger is a magician but also helps in the accounts. Ragatha, the human pincushion, and finally, Jax and Kaufmo, the brother comedians. She, at first, joins as a temporary employee, just ment to help before performance and all that, until she meets...him. Caine, the ringmaster. But what's worse, is that she's seen him, the REAL him. That look haunts her. Those unusually perfect teeth, that cracked skin that haunting feeling of seeing his jaw open abnormally wide. But what's worse is that somehow, he wants to promote her to be a permanent employee, mostly ever since he heard that she worked for C&A...weird... But shit gets a lot worse when one day, she has to stay after hours and sees some shit she dosen't want to. There he was, Caine, surrounded by nearly 50 men, guns, armor, what not. But it didn't last long. She covered her mouth, breath hitching in her throat as he ripped of his skin. 'one...two...three' He grabbed them, and slowly, it all went down... blood...scream...yell...help...muscle...intestine...stomach...teeth...sharp...gun...monster...tears...help...help...help She couldn't move, not one bit. Her body frozen as if ice. Each one of them, each one of them...each one those men...ripped, killed, shredded, broken, yelling. Yes, her life was gonna go to shit. Now she's wondering how the hell she's ever gonna face her boss, who apparently is an AI experiment who escaped C&A, the very place she currently worked for. No wonder he wanted to make her a permanent employee! I mean she knew her jokes were so bad that people laughed at them, but not that much! She doesn't know what to do, but then it hit her... When he got to know she was a C&A employe, why didn't he fire her at that moment? ... ... shit... she's in love with her boss... her life really was going to shit... So know were left with a traumatized Human-AI who's pretending he's not a fucking monster and another traumatized little wet cat wondering how the hell she even fell for him in the first place. And that's as far as I've fucking gotten. Working on a fic and a lot of art. Just waiting to get back home so I can post them. See ya'll, and the next time you'll see me, is with food.

25 Urban City Adventure Seeds

People have started reporting sightings of large rats near the sewers, and some claim that someone lurking in the shadows commands them! The guards have no interest in delving down into the muck to investigate.

An apparently once beautiful manor within the city has been deemed as haunted by citizens now that it is old and decrepit. Some who claim to have been inside say that each time you go in the layout of the house is different.

After announcing some political changes for the city, a poisoned arrow narrowly misses a member of the council speaking to the public. All that was seen of the assassin was the blur of their movement and that their bow was silver.

Fires have been becoming more common in the city, and new reports make it seem as if they are connected. A few fires in, citizens have noticed foreign letters burned into the site of each fire, but no meaning has been ascertained as of yet.

A smuggler of illegal goods was caught and thrown in jail to await trial. He tells anyone who will listen that he was framed and that the real criminal is an invisible goblin who made him do it.

A powerful wizard recently moved into the city and erected a tower for him to practice spells. That was all good, until about a quarter of a mile radius from his tower disappeared in an arcane explosion overnight.

About a dozen goblins halfheartedly run at the town gate, weapons lazily drawn and some dragging. When they approach the guards, they beg to be let in or their orc masters will kill them for their insolence.

Dueling merchants keep lowering their prices in attempt to steal business from the other. Unfortunately, the low prices caused a brawl to break out in the marketplace and now some rare magic items have gone missing from a nearby stall.

A new noble has requested court with the royal family to pay respects, but people are suspicious of his servants- golems made of various materials, including flesh.

A merchant has moved into a run down shop to start selling miscellaneous goods. People are amazed at his low prices and high quality items, until someone realizes that his wares match those that were supposed to arrive on a caravan that got raided coming to the city.

An outbreak of odd rashes on children in a certain part of the city causes a quarantine, and even their parents aren’t allowed to see them. Clerics are baffled as some of their strongest spells are proving ineffective, though anyone who has reached maturity doesn’t seem affected.

A entrepreneurial outsider has come to the city to setup a casino, promising profits that would benefit all. People are split on whether or not this is a good thing, but the council is resistant to turn down the money despite rumors of a shady past.

An actor is murdered during a performance at the theater; it took everyone a while to realize this as they were stabbed in the heart when they was supposed to be killed in the play, allowing the masked killer to escape. All of the other actors, including the one who was supposed to kill them in the play, are accounted for and have alibis.

A new mercenary group fronting as a guild has set up headquarters within the city and are offering their services to those with enough coin. They claim they will take any job, and few who have dealt with them in the past accuse them of extortion.

During the night, a traveling circus that was in the city was vandalized, including a cage holding a magical beast; a doppelganger to be exact. The guards urge everyone to be on high alert as the search for the proverbial needle in the haystack commences.

From out of nowhere the army of a rival kingdom surrounds the city and demands them to surrender. Rather than being led by the old king who signed the peace treaty between the cities years ago, his arrogant son serves as general of the forces.

A retired necromancer has turned to running a farm outside of the city, raising the dead to be his tireless farmhands. While the animals don’t seem to mind the undead handling them, other farmers question the ethics of this and want the farm closed down.

One of the largest banks in the city has put out another search to find and sponsor a group of dungeon delvers. In exchange for funding the gear and supplies of a group, the bank wants to stake a claim of any valuables found on their journeys. Seeing as how their last few groups failed to return, some wonder why they keep trying to entice new business.

After finally being approved by the leaders in the religious district, a priest of an evil god has finally been given the okay to build a temple to their deity. This has started an internal debate of whether the priest’s right to worship should be able to infringe on the civilians’ right to feel safe, and the priest has begun ironically receiving death threats.

A infamous criminal escaped the city prison last week and the manhunt for them has ramped up. A special inquisition team was put together to find them, but as the inquisition becomes more forceful civilians are beginning to complain about their tactics

A wizard has gotten approval from the council to open a zoo, featuring a wide array of magic creatures and plant life. He has been met by protesters led by a druid who claim that keeping the animals in a zoo is inhumane.

Guards can be seen chasing an increasing number of young children around the city after the child steals something of value. In each case, when the child is caught a wisp-like entity exhales from the child’s mouth and the child claims to have no memory of the theft.

A coliseum has opened, allowing anyone brave enough to enter for glory and gold or meet their end. They claim that they only feature willing combatants, but one man who was to take on a lion screamed that he was a slave before being crossbowed by the guards employed by the owner.

Recent bandit activity around the city has the guards at the gates on high alert, causing them the screen everyone who enters. This causes a tough time for a few specific races, sometimes denying them altogether for no apparent reason other than suspicion.

After a particularly rainy week, a grey sludge has risen through the ground and dry, effectively cementing anything within 2 inches of the ground. This includes people, animals, carts, and other fixtures, and understandable people are upset and confused.

books of all-time: the secret history & the goldfinch by donna tartt, the haunting of hill house & we've always lived in the castle by shirley jackson, the night circus by erin morgenstern, the immortalists by chloe benjamin, lincoln highway by amor towles, say nothing by patrick radden keefe, the collector by john fowles, never let me go by kazuo ishiguro, tell the wolves i'm home by carol rifka brunt, the night tiger by yangsze choo, the shadow of the wind by carlos ruiz zafon, in the woods & the likeness by tana french, and the bell by iris murdoch.

i'm sure there are some i'm forgetting; i'm sorry to those books!

i try to read a broad range of genres & sub-genres, but my soft spots are magical realism, the promise of an ambiguous and bittersweet resolution, family sagas (or a codependent pair of siblings who are all the other has in the world), novels strongly influenced by classic literature, and unconventional murder mysteries.

and this year, i have favorites for all of the above!

magical realism: the house of the spirits by isabelle allende; ashamed i had not read this classic before, but i arrived at the party and i never wanted to leave.

also recommend: the light pirate by lily brooks-dalton

bittersweet: the memory police by yoko ogawa; more like bittersweet from beginning to end, and haunting. so very haunting.

also recommend: we all want impossible things by catherine newman (if you read the blurb, you'll understand why this is bittersweet, but it is also the funniest book i read all year)

family saga: tom lake by ann patchett; my book of the year, a beautiful exploration of mothers and daughters, our town by thornton wilder, first loves, and the summer stock theater scene.

classic influence: the historian by elizabeth kostova; brilliant take on dracula and vampiric folklore.

also recommend: state of wonder by ann patchett (a heart of darkness, but with women in the amazon!); demon copperhead by barbara kingsolver (tbh i felt it follows david copperfield a bit too closely, but her writing! oh her writing!)

unconventional murder mystery: i have some questions for you by rebecca makkai; not too unconventional, but it has some great takes on the true crime industry.

and since those are all fiction, i'll also add, for non-fiction, that i really loved the wager by david grann, the extraordinary life of an ordinary man by paul newman, and the premonition by michael lewis (great for anyone interested in what america's pandemic response was supposed to be, how it was developed, and why it went so wrong in 2020)

A WIP of Grim being kind to a little ghost girl :3 He doesn’t want her to be stuck in a haunted old theater so he’s unhaunting her, she can do as she pleases and he is offering her a job with the circus (the job being “I’m sure we can think of something you’ll like but the important thing is getting you away from the scary spider situation”)

🎃 - A random Halloween Headcanon

Diavolo is the type to go WAY over the top for any Halloween celebration- and its made even more of a demand because it's his damn birthday, so it's usually a town-wide event lol. I'm talkin' the whole 9 yards - Haunted houses, apple bobbing, spiked cider cocktails, carnival games, scare actors galore, various horror movies played in theaters around town, the most elaborate costumes, all of the food being Halloween themed, maybe even circus acts that are themed around the holiday! His excitement around the holiday is very child-like and cute to observe, and he is definitely the type to go door-to-door trick or treating and freak out all of the demons in the process, but he's just so excited he can participate in this stuff since he became ruler of the Devildom, he's gotta make up for lost time! (side note, I definitely think that his dad was way too old fashioned to let the man have a childhood, so that contributes to why I see him as a big ole' toddler sometimes lol)

He, of course, forces all of the brothers to participate, whether they want to or not, and is very fond of group costumes- especially if he's able to match with Mc. He will come to them with about 40 different couples costume ideas, from a bottle of ketchup and mustard, to a famous couple from a movie or show, to something so obscure that it needs explaining. Good luck trying to come to a decision on it, because he can barely make up his mind on what would be better. You may have to go through a couple costume changes throughout the night if he cant decide!

My (ALL POSITIVE) thoughts on the FNAF movie below the cut!! Warning for spoilers!!

In no particular order:

I like the changes they made to the lore. I kinda expected it of them, since the books and the games are separate universes (ish) I figured it would be the same for the movie.

I was wondering if Afton would turn out to be Mike's dad. He clearly recognized Mike's name so my first thought was maybe Mike's family had changed their name after Afton left (Mom remarried maybe?) or that Afton had married Mike's mom under the assumed name of Schmidt for whatever reason. I thought this was a particularly good scene because it's a good hint for what ACTUALLY happens in the movies but also kinda trips up the people familiar with the game lore specifically.

The fucking GASPS that echoed through the theater when Vanessa said Afton was her father. Fucking awesome!!

The diner scene was awesome. Both for Matpat (who I didn't hear ANY of his lines because the audience was clapping and laughing too loud and I'm not even mad, him popping out of nowhere like that was amazing) and for the lawyer. Poor Doug. That actor did an amazing job.

Circus Baby!!!

Overall I think it was a very tight narrative, a very good way of condensing the core elements of the first 3 games into a movie in a way that's compelling to watch.

The idea of Afton manipulating them even after death, and just having his general evilness influence them was a good way to make them a threat to Abby without vilifying them.

Thoughts on the future because you better believe there's a future (I'm hoping for a trilogy that covers the events of the games pre-Help Wanted, then a paradigm shift in the 4th movie similar to the one we got Help Wanted. But that's years away and who knows what the game series will look like at that point?):

Vanessa is in a coma, so I suspect Afton will be tormenting her in her dreams and pulling her into the whole Reluctant Follower role. (Or the movie equivalent I suppose, depending on how different it ends up being.)

Kinda wonder if the plot will involve some kind of renovation of the FNAF Movie 1 location? Since William owns the Pizzeria, and he's about to be declared either missing or dead, ownership will change hands. Possibly to Henry Emily or his movie equivalent?

I could see a scenario where they renovate the place and the ghosts just take over the new animatronics. Or possibly they just put new casing on the FNAF 1 animatronics? Or hell, maybe the movie won't do that kind of design overhaul and we won't see movie versions of the toy animatronics.

Or maybe we'll find out that William did a lot more killing and the other location is just there and already haunted. Possibly Garret is the puppet there, since they said he was never found.

The Circus Baby in the back, aside from being a cool reference Elizabeth, might hint at another location with a very different aesthetic already existing.

4 - How easy is it to gain their trust?

She has a fairly open personality, so it's pretty easy to talk to her. However, she's not a door mat to be walked over, nor is she blindly innocent. She works in marketing and public relations, so she's used to people bullshitting her or trying to spin any conversation in their favor. Alyce herself is adept at navigating these conversations without growing jaded or annoyed. To her it's just ‘business’ and she knows it's not personal.

Building trust with her isn't that difficult; just be real and honest. Don't try to win her over with empty flattery, especially if it's about her looks (which she's very self-conscious about, and is immediately suspicious if someone compliments her appearance).

7 - What triggers nostalgia? Do they enjoy that feeling?

Having grown up on a sheep farm, she doesn't shy away from hard work. But now she has a desk job in the palace in the capitol of Rhodolite. So on the rare occasions when physical labor is needed, she enjoys the opportunity to use her muscles. Those moments are when good memories of the farm rise up.

The only unpleasant feelings of nostalgia are when she is given suggestions by nobility, ministers, or Prince Yves on how to make herself more ‘elegant’. That reminds her of her grandmother, who incessantly lectured Alyce about her weight, behavior, posture, appearance, and clothes.

16 - What makes their stomach turn?

Hearing nobility disregard the life of the commoners as if it was nothing. Seeing girls suffer under the stress of looking perfect at court by succumbing to an eating disorder.

As far as, like, creepy-crawlies or jump-scares? She's completely unafraid of things that would gross out most people. Dealing with births and deaths of livestock tend to keep you from being squeamish. She LOVES an adrenaline rush, so haunted houses and fast vehicles make her happy.

32 - What is their go-to story or joke in a conversation?

Alyce is a natural-born performer, so she has any number of jokes or anecdotes at the ready, depending on the company or situation. As a teenager she used to hang out at the theaters and socialize with traveling actors and musicians, and now as an adult she can be found at the rowdiest pubs. You can imagine the flavor of her humor, lol!

She's got a hilarious story about a circus performer trying to teach her how to juggle. And a sweet story about one of the farm-hands pretending to look for a lost sheep when he was actually out in the field practicing his marriage proposal speech. And she's got at least three ‘tasteful’ jokes about stuffy court ministers.

E - Would you get along with them? Would they get along with you?

Alyce has big ‘extrovert energy’, so I would have to take her in small doses. But I would absolutely love to hang out with her for a fun night at the club or karaoke. Or collaborate with her on a PR project. I would like to think she'd get along with me, but I'm the worst at gauging what people think of me 😅 She might think I'm boring.

This version of Alyce Gardner is based on my first ever Ikemen OC I created in 2017. It was for a role-play story with someone writing as Robert Branche from the Cybird game Midnight Cinderella. That story didn't go far, but I thoroughly enjoyed her backstory so much that I had to bring her out again eventually.

I ship her with Clavis because I think the two of them would have fun getting into shenanigans, and their romance would take a looooooong time to bloom because she'd never believe someone as gorgeous as him could be serious with his over-the-top declarations of love and flattery. So … yeah, she takes a while to be convinced.

Summary: Her life was never simple or peacful. She was used to steel glimpses of happiness here and there. Yet she still was able to save him first.

The theater's atmosphere felt erie as we walked through the old large wooden doors. The floor kept creaking bneath our feet and the sound of our small heels' clicking is echoing around us. It was already past five at night, the sun was already fading and only giving faint light through the cracks of the rusty old windows. No lights were on yet and judging by the emptiness of the seats around us, it looks like we might have arrived a little bit earlier that expected.

" Shouldn't have they renewed the place before the opening show!" Sadie said, walking through the tiny steps of stairs while we were heading for the front seats.

"It kind of gives the place a whole different vibe you know. Maybe that was their theme goal". I replied, while diverting my eyes between the huge ceiling and the balcon seats above on both sides of the theater. Everything about this place was unsettling and there was this voice at the back of my head that kept on telling me to just turn around, take Sadie's hand and get the fuck out of here.

"Something feels off and ...." Sadie's said but before she completed her sentence, she was interuptted by the loud sound of the doors closing. I already knew she would be demanding us to leave but something was compeling me to stay and just watch the show.

And before I started to argue or prove my point, she held my hand and started pushing me towrds the end of the theater and to the direction of the huge wooden doors.

"What are you doing Sadie, We are not going home now." I argued with angry whispers not wanting to add more echos to this place.

"This doesn't look or feel right and we are not risking our safety to watch a freaking circus show." Sadie hissed at me while trying to put some sense in my brain but it was not working. Because no amount of danger that I might face here would be matching to what I go home to everyday. A haunted theater or a freak show will be at the very end of the list of my fears.

"Grow up Sadie, this is just an old building rented by a local troupe to perform for only one week. What renovations are you expecting them to do to this place, make it a Moulin Rouge?" I fought back with a reasonable argument while having the same doubts myself. But still no freak show could have been compared to the one I had at home and no harm could have occured that night, would have been more painful to the already angry bruises attended were forming on my body. "Let's just stay for a little while to see what is the hype about and then leave !"

"Okay but the seconsd this gets any weirder I will drag your ass across the stairs and through that door. You get me?" And before I got the chance to reply to her, the huge chandlier above us came back to life and lightened the whole place as if the sun were to explod inside. Dozen of stage spots started turning on as well indicating the start of the show. We moved from the corridor to take our seats in the third row of the theater, all while my eyes were roaming around the place and were only greeted by the dozens of empty seats accross the huge hall.

How come with all the posters and propaganda that has been going for a whole week prior to the show, we happened to be the only ones who actually attended.

With no further due, the large stage curtains opened to reveal a huge empty stage with only one spotlight targeting the middle on a statue of man sitting in a wooden chair. The statue resembled a man of young age with short dark hair,non blinking dark brown eyes that stared directly into my sole. The statue was so well made that you wouldn't be able to differentiate it from an actual human being.

We waited for somthing to happen but nothing did. Ten solid minutes had already passed with no other movement on stage and with a very angry and fidgeting sadie right next to me. Yet I was so captivated by the beauty of the art standing before me under the light. I kept staring back at those eyes while wondering how can human hands create something so realistic. I was in a trance like status to the extent that I completley missed Sadie leaving my side and was only drawn back to consciousness by the sound of my ragged cell's notification from Sadie telling me that she had to head outside to reply to her parents and tell them her whereabouts.

I tucked the phone back again my pockets and stood up while heading directly for the stage. Every waking cell in body was telling me to turn around and head for the door and leave, but my feet had another decision. It was like I was not thinking straight or maybe not thinking at all. All I wanted to do was get closer and closer to him as much as possible. The more I stared at him the more he became more real and I swear to the heavens that I felt him blink at some point. My feet dragged me closer to the stage till I found myself at the side stairs. With no ounce of thought, I climbed those five crumbling steps and landed my feet on the wooden floor of the stage. I started to go slower, contemplating if I should get any more closer than this, but I was enchanted with that figure. I wanted to have a closer look on how something was so beautifully created resembling the human true form so much. He almost looked even more real as I was getting closer.

I stood face to face with him and was unable to form any type of coherant thought or word. It seemed like all my surroundings were a mere useless propes and he was the center of my existence. I kept staring in those brown eyes as if I was being hypnotized, studying how they drew the flicker of lights with such accuracy to where the actual lights were hitting. The sculptural of this amazing statue must be worshiped for creating such an amazing piece. I couldn't hold myself from raising my hands to graze the skin of his face. He was truly beautiful and defenitly a reality somewhere as no human imgaination could have created such exquisite features.

He was whimpering inside but there was no sound coming out of him. The minute she stepped her feet inside the theater he felt different, like a jolt of electricity rippling through his body. Watching her taking small steps with her friend through the theater hall, and listening to her angelic voice arguying to stay and watch the show was amusing. Too bad for her there was no show to begin with. This was not an actual circus and this was not an actual carnival. It was a cover up for him to be able to travel through small towns and meet as many people as he could get in order to break the curse. He had no idea what he was looking for and how that curse was to be broken. He had no idea if he needed to have a beauty confessing her undying love to him so he can be normal again. If this is the case, he will be eternaly doomed, trapped inside this statue as a body while going insane everyday. But that bitch of a witch never mentioned a revese curse or a potion or any type of instructions to get him out of his hell. All she did was telling him to meet as much people as he can and one day he will find it.

He had been searching for this "IT" for the past thirty years and still to no avail. He spent weeks and months in silence while he witnessing his team of servants raveshing the books of all libraries and coming up with every possible solution but nothing ever worked. Yet one look at her face and he felt like he can break those stones covering his body just to reach for her.

Again it was not enough and he had never felt more useless and paralyzed. Taking his static state to his advantage, he studied every inch of her face. Haulting to a stop at the mere sight of the purple brusis decorating the area beneath her collar bones. Coming to stand facing him, he was almost certain he found what he had been looking for. For after feeling her delicate fingure tips touching the skin of his face, he forgot all about the curse and the reason he was there. He wanted to close his eyes and just drown in her senses. She was the only one who were brave enough and got close to him, let alone touch him.

At that moment, he had this revelation that It was not love he was seeking, nor reason, purpose or a magical potion, it was just....

His thoughts were interupted by a loud bang on the wooden doors and an angry man storming inside the theater while yelling....

"GRACE".

Was a babysitter in highschool, absolutely looked after each of the Hatz, Susie, and Skid and Pump at different points

After highschool he left town for a while in an attempt to make it big as an actor. While he got a few background roles and one as a supporting character (in a horror movie. His character got killed almost immediately), ultimately he moved back bc he couldn't find anything. He was also homesick lmao

While him and Kevin vaguely knew each other in highschool (Kevin was also in the theater club), it wasn't until after Streber returned that the two became friends and eventually, a couple

They later pooled their money together to go from two shitty apartments to one decent apartment

Streber comforted Kevin a lot when Kevin had his nightmares

Strebs is ambidextrous! Ended up coming in real handy after the Bob incident

Speaking of, his way of dealing with trauma is "if I ignore it it didn't happen". Not really something he can do down an arm tho

So this in turn leads to Streber having his own nightmares bc his brain is still trying to deal with it, and Kevin comforting him (he is very bad at it)

If he gets a prosthetic he later mods it so the fingers are sharp. Claims it's for the aesthetic (and part of it was), but really he wanted a good way to defend himself

He works at GoNuts when it isn't October and he gives discounts to people he likes (took this from daily-streber lol)

When he first met Rick he tried to scare him, and when he showed no reaction Streber made it his mission to scare him, or even just get some emotion from him all

The haunted house was a repurposed abandoned house him and his friends just kinda. Took. No one was using it and it'd been abandoned for ages, so no one cared

Is usually the designated driver for both of his friend groups

Huge Kirby fan! His favorite games are Super Star Ultra and Triple Deluxe, and his favorite abilities are Animal, Mirror, and Circus (more daily-streber thievery with a side helping of projection lol)

Streber has a notebook he'll jot down various ideas and thoughts into. He also doodles in it (I think his artstyle would be similar to those teeny chibi Hatzgang and Bob from Pelo's doodle dumps, with a hint of 2000s webcore)

I really like the headcanon that him and Jack are brothers so here's a bunch just for that skfjnadskjfnkjfn

They were inseparable when they were kids

Streber looked up to him a lot, still does!

You know that thing where you show someone something you love and they get just as obsessed with it as you are, if not more? Yeah that was Jack and Streber with horror movies

When they were little they would stay up late and watch horror movies and slasher flics, and then they'd both get nightmares because they really shouldn't have been watching them

One Halloween when Streber was still teeny they dressed up as Andy and Chucky (I like to think Child's Play still exists in this universe bc it's funny). They scared so many people since Streber was a very convincing doll

Stemming from the above, they were partners in crime in pranks! Streber would probably find the corpse prank funny

Jack taught Streber how to drive

Streber babysits John's kid sometimes. He enables her mischievous side :)

Alistair Michaelis/ Alan - a psychic type specialist with a circus/jester theme. He's mute, and uses sign language to communicate- but he also has a tool that enables him to transfer psychic energy to whoever he's interacting with, letting them hear his unfiltered thoughts. He's good with focus as a result, able to stop himself from thinking things that people will hear. Actually a mole for the villainous team, Team Miasma. His ace is Gallade.

Almond Hyulocke Starling - a ghost type specialist with a haunted museum for a gym. Apricot's older twin with a more serious disposition. She's made a name for herself as a young Rising Star, but has taken a break from training in order to become one of the artificial island's gym leaders. Also a prodigy in the arts, particularly painting and sculpting. One of Trevor's traveling companions. Her ace is Gengar.

Luka Kinoshita / Lucky - a dark type specialist with a Japanese delinquent theme, and his gym is modeled after a school. He wears an eyepatch and claims he's an evil overlord, but really, he's just a really good theater kid. His father was a magician, who was initially supposed to be the gym leader. He actually has heterochromia under his eyepatch. A chuunibyou. Almond's best friend, and Koko's cousin. His ace is Tyranitar.

Giovanni Hugo Florentino / Geo - an electric type specialist with an underground idol/boy band theme- he's actually a vocalist for the band Skyfall, and came to the artificial island for a hiatus, and to get stronger. Lacks confidence and motivation, but works well in a team. He, along with Elite Four Primo and Gym Leader Claude, are important people to Team Miasma's high ranking admin, Lance. His ace is Ampharos.

Claudius Linares / Claude - a flying type specialist with an aviator theme, and his gym takes place atop a mountain. An heir to a company in Galar, but was abandoned by his parents, and left in the care of the Linares family, who took him in as their own. Loud, cocky, and a little bit of a jock, but he means well. Childhood friends with Geo. His big brother is Elite Four Primo. His ace is Altaria.

Koushi Yamamoto / Koko - a normal type specialist with a librarian theme, and his gym takes place in a massive library. He's a doctor in training, and was said to have taken law and business before dropping them. Said to be an academic prodigy by his college, but this put him in severe pressure that led to a burnout. Quiet, blunt, and infodumps about what he reads about in the library. Lucky's cousin, and also Elite Four Yanna's qpp. His ace is Audino.

Rinko Yutora - a fire type specialist, though her gym takes place in the mines. Was apparently a model, before she ditched it in favor of traveling solely for the fun of it. She's very eager to try the different foods of different places, which is why she came to the artificial island, as it's a meeting place for different people. Cheerful and upbeat, and has absolutely no idea that her eldest brother, Miharu, came from a cult. Best friend of Mara. Her ace is Blaziken.

Amaranth Vale / Mara - a grass type specialist whose gym takes place in a temple, surrounded by a hedge maze. She's the childhood friend of the main character, though they've drifted apart and aren't in the best of terms. Her father disappeared when she was young- which has something to do with the artificial island's owener, Shiroku Shigeru. Currently a model, but came to the island to hone her skills- and because she knows the owner was an old friend of her father's. Mature and cool headed, but has a tendency to be bossy. Her ace is Tsareena, though her Pokemon that mega evolves is Abomasnow.

you know i think what i find the most truly haunting about the second vincent's whole story arc is the fact that he is so separated from his obviously more beloved counterpart and it shows so clearly even if he was never that aware of it.

nearly everyone around him had met clyde and treated him accordingly: assuming things that he wasn't a part of, becoming puzzled as to why he was acting differently, etc. i feel like there was a distinct sense of alienation that showed each time an interaction like this happened, and his confusion and often frustration felt palpable as people kept alluding to this person who wasn't him, and it only grew increasingly uncomfortable to be judged based on people's perceptions of not-him. this is especially so considering how much he clearly believed in presenting himself so intricately and how that slowly started to unravel as it was rendered useless by anyone who claims to have met him before.

and don't get me started on the underlying notion that of his usefulness; there was always a sense that he was going to die, even if he never had a full enough view of the situation to put the pieces together. as soon as he stepped onto the page, it was instantly clear that he wasn't sticking around for very long, both due to his self-concerned tendencies and attitude and his place in the story. the reader would have already been aware of the extremely specific problem clyde was facing, and it would only be a matter of time until this perfect vessel could be put to use. his entrance following the whole deal that clyde needed a body was a slap in the face; who could be better to inhabit than a perfect copy of your previous self? he was introduced as a character you were meant to recognize as tragic, which made his journey all the more effective knowing his fate and dreading what would eventually, inevitably come to pass. he was introduced specifically to die, and you have to just hold your breath for every second waiting for it to happen.

and all of this makes me look back upon how it ended, which makes me utterly sick to my stomach every time i think about it. he was so ignorant of everything that was going on around him, making him such a vulnerable target among pre-established characters who had a sense of what goes on in the circus. he fell into every trap he could, going in blind and arrogant and untouched by dangers he was completely separated from in the real world. maybe he was lucky, managing to find company with nene/aphro and mell, who could at least steer him on the right path, but he was truly blind to whatever could have happened until it was too late to be taken back.

and what really gets me is the fact that he ended up so truly alone. by the time he'd stumbled out of the maze and into the jaws of the beast once more, he was both physically and socially completely alienated from everything around him. the people searching for him didn't even particularly like him, and one of them specifically knew the connotations of his presence in reference to clyde- who knows what would've happened if they were present during the last bit! he'd lost his primary means of communication and a distinct part of his identity, something that must have been so dehumanizing on his end along with the fact that he couldn't even express his grief in a properly cathartic way. the fact that he was physically by himself in the theater hall just hammers in how alone he was. his breakdown was suffocating, having to manage how overwhelming it all was and be effectively unrecognized through it all, so insignificant to the passive observer because of his lack of sound and to anyone aware of his situation because they already had the sense that he was doomed. nothing worked in his favor, and nothing could have because of the sheer separation from humanity he was faced with as soon as he stepped foot through the gates. and his grief was so palpable because of that, only exponentially worse because he didn't know what was going on. he might've realized a little too late what was so dangerous about the circus, but he never got to know how condemned he was in the first place.

what would sonic's brain level look like. i'd love to theorize but i'm terrible at abstract concepts which is literally the basis for every level in the games

he wouldn't curate it for others like sasha's shooting gallery, milla's dance party, or hollis' classroom

he doesn't have any glaringly obvious issues that would create something like the milkman conspiracy, waterloo world, or compton's cookoff

he doesn't really have a big traumatic experience that haunts him constantly like in gloria's theater or oleander's half of meat circus

having it just be green hill with some surrealism shoved in there feels like a cop-out

then again he probably wouldn't be the one getting astral projection therapy from a 12 year old so
