Hailee Steinfeld x Reader
Synopsis: You and Hailee are guests on the Tonight Show and have a little surprise to share with everyone.
CW: very little cussing (it’s like one word I think)
A/N: I know I said I was going to right a Kate Bishop x reader series awhile ago, but writers block, you know? And I just haven’t gotten to it. This however, I came up with two hours ago and just started writing as soon as it came into my head. It’s basically 1:30 am right now, so apparently I've been writing it for awhile. But this was actually pretty easy for me to right for some reason.
I want to make another part for this and maybe have like a bonus chapter. I would’ve written more if I wasn’t so tired tbh.
But I hope you enjoy this part!
------ ------
“Hey everyone and welcome to the Tonight Show! I’m your host Jimmy Fallon, and tonight we have a special treat for you. We’ve got games, guests, and some tricky tests that i’m sure we’ll get through in a flash!-”
You sat backstage in your dressing room watching the start of the show on a tv that was put in there. The crowd was buzzing as Jimmy continued to speak, The Roots, of course, adding in their musical charm to go along with his performance.
You’ve always loved watching the Tonight Show, and being able to be on it was something you were always excited about. Every time you came here you always felt overjoyed and excited about what was planned for the night. Tonight you actually got to come here alongside Hailee to talk about both of your careers and where your lives are at, play some games, and a little surprise at the end of it all.
As you continued to look at the tv, you heard a knock at the door before someone came walking in.
“Hey Yn/n~” Hailee said as she closed the door.
“Hey Lee~” you said as you extended your arm out for her to come to sit next to you.
She walked over and sat next to you, nuzzling into your side as you wrapped your arm around her. “You know I never know whether you’re saying my name or that nickname you gave me whenever you greet me like that,”
You shrugged, “All up for interpretation I guess,”
She smacked your leg and looked up at the tv, watching the show with you. “Are you excited?”
    “For…”
She rolled her eyes and shifted her position to look up at you. “Fooor~ the surprise we have at the end,” She looked down at her hand, as did you, catching a glimpse of the sparkly jewel. You took her hand in yours and gently ran your thumb over her knuckles, grazing it in the process.
You looked back up to her eyes and gave her a small smirk, “I’ve never been more excited for this,”
~    ~   ~   ~
    “You have 10 seconds!”
“No WAIT! I know this!! Hold on!”
    “5, 4-”
“ugh- it’s at the tip of my tongue!!”
    “2, 1- Times Up!!”
“Dang it!!” You laughed frustrated and covered your face as Hailee jumped up in victory.
“The answer was Emily Junk. Stay tuned everyone cause we’ll be right back with something special after the break,”
The director yelled cut and Jimmy patted you on the shoulder and gave Hailee a high five.
“You really gotta know your Hailee characters Y/n, I mean I thought for sure that you were going to win this,”
You looked up and spotted some of The Roots exchanging money with each other. Jimmy caught what you were looking at too,
“Hey! What are you guys doing? Were you betting this whole time?!”
    They all nodded.
“Typical- Without me of course!! Gosh!” Everyone laughed as he walked over to them and they started messing around and talking.
Hailee walked over to you and gave you a punch to the arm. “What was that for?” you winced.
    “That’s for losing,”
“I only lost cause I’m tired, otherwise I would’ve beaten your ass,” you say with a smirk as you start to walk over to where you’ll be seated next for the final part of your segment.
“Riight~ blame your lack of energy. I thought me being here would boost up your energy? I mean I am your w- friend,”
You look back at her with your eyebrow raised. “I’m sorry, what was that?”
Her cheeks brightened up a bit, “I’m saying I’m your friend and that should be enough to give you enough energy to not lose loser,” she said punching you in the arm again.
You winced and held your arm, shuffling away from her as to not get hit again. “Alright my little bumblebee I get it, you don’t have to sting me to prove a point,” you chuckled as her cheeks became a bit redder than before.
    “Yeah yeah, whatever,”
~   ~   ~   ~
“Alright so the last time we had the both of you here, you two had said you were single correct?” Jimmy asked, knowing full well what was coming.
You and Hailee both smiled as she said, “Yes we did,”
“Mmm, and what about now, since it’s been- a couple months I believe? Since you two were last here together. Are either of you in a relationship? Or currently seeing anyone perhaps?”
This time you spoke, “Well actually Jimmy it’s funny you mention that because…” you look down and grab Hailee’s hand.
The crowd gasps, and you can feel her grip tighten a bit as she says, “We’ve been hiding this for awhile,”
Jimmy looks between the both of you and acts like he just put two and two together. “Wait are you two… together?”
Hailee looks at you and you look back. You give her a gentle smile and a squeeze to her hand. She lets out a breath and says, “Yes, we’re together,”
The crowd is full of gasps that quickly turn into cheers and claps. You and Hailee had been widely shipped for years now, and hearing this was definitely going to make people ecstatic. But there’s more.
Hailee clears her throat and continues, “We’re actually engaged,” she lifts up her hand and shows off the ring she is wearing with a smile.
The cheers only get louder from there. Everyone in the room seems frantic as they are yelling their congrats and showing how excited they are. Some people don’t seem as excited about it, but they’re barely noticed.
Hailee put her hand back down and looked over at you with a smile. You smiled back and gave her a kiss on the cheek before looking back at Jimmy as aww’s filled the room before he spoke.
“I’m so happy for the both of you. I can’t wait to see where this next chapter in your life together will take you. And i’m sure everyone here and at home are just as excited too- isn’t that right?!”
The crowd cheered and then came silent once again as Jimmy continued.
“But Hailee, we actually have a little surprise for you- as well as the audience. See, me and my team actually got to be with Y/n as they were getting everything set up to propose to you- we even got to help her quite a bit. Would you like to see the footage?”
Hailee smiled wide before replying, “I’d love to see it!”
“Awsome! Alright everyone here is a look at what Y/n did to get ready for her proposal to Hailee! Roll the Clip!”

Starfire x Female!Reader
Warnings: Implied sex, fluff.
°°••°°
Star hummed her girlfriend's favorite song (F/s) while cooking, placing the dirty dishes on the sink she took the human weird slimy yet tasteful food, or as they called chocolate cake. Unknown to her the rest of the team looked at her from the door.
“ Dang she's making a cake.” Beast boy muttered to the others making them nod confuse.
“ She has never done that before..”
“ Yeah, Not even when she and Robin were dating.”
Robin's face switched from neutral to a shock at those words. Beast boy and Cyborg froze on the spot when Robin entered the kitchen, he walked towards Star -who didn't notice him- before politely clearing his throat.
Star smiled at him making him softly blush “ Hello Robin, is something in the wrong? ” Star innocently asked.
“ Uh no” Robin chuckled, scratching his cheek embarrassed “ I was just wondering.. ” He nodded toward the cake.
Star looked at him confused. Robin pointed the cake on Star's hands making her 'ooh', understanding his question.
“ Oh... Well I guess it's time to tell you.. ” Star placed the cake on the counter, Robin looked hopeful at Star when he heard those words.
“ Star I want to apologize, I want to continue our relationsh-”
“ I have a girlfriend.” Star squealed not hearing Robin's true intention.
Robin's eyes widened, he couldn't believe it.. He makes the mistake to leave Star.. for a year and she moved on..
Beast boy and Cyborg rushed to get their leader who fainted. They sent Star huge grins before leaving to the medical wing, Raven stayed behind and walked towards the confused Star.
“ That's great Star.” Star looked at Raven who gave her a thumbs up. “ Do we know her?”
“ I don't think so, she-”
“ Guys! Slade is attacking the city.” Beast boy screamed making the females look at each other and nod.
“ Guys! Noir is attacking me again! ” Starfire heard Beast boy over the communicator on her ear before she quickly flew on his direction.
She saw Beast boy on his T-Rex form stuck by shadows all around him and a single form in front of him.
Star threw Noir a fireball who dodged but in the process she managed to brake their concentration setting Beast boy free.
Noir looked at Star only to get sent flying away by the green T-rex tail. They fell on a abandoned house before the roof collapsed.
“ Thanks Star, Noir keeps targeting me with their shadow powers and all.” Beast boy nodded before leaving to catch up with the others.
Star was about to leave until hearing something remove part of the roof and throw it beside them, she turned around only to see Noir shakily walk away from the house only to fall in front of the house.
Star felt her heart worry seeing Noir didn't moved after falling.
“ Hey... Are you.. ” Noir's finger twitched hearing Star's voice, they mumbled something before some shadows surrounded their form covering it. Star watched as Noir disappeared completely in front of her, shaking her head she left to follow Beast Boy.
“ We still have a mission.”
°°••°°
When (Name) opened the door she expected to see her girlfriend or her best friend Rose. Maybe a salesman? Not the famous Teen Titans looking nervous.
“ Uuuh... Um.. O..Okay.. ” Star didn't noticed the tense air so she flew towards (Name) and happily pecked her lips in a greeting. “ Guys this is my girlfriend (Name).”
Star hid the box behind her back so (Name) wouldn't notice it's existence.
“ (Name) this are my friends Raven, Cyborg, Beast boy and Robin! ” Star introduced. Raven gave the confused female a thumbs up, Cyborg smiled with a proud expression, Beast boy grinned making weird hand gestures and Robin simply nodded in acknowledgement.
Wait... Robin.. Robin her Ex.
(Name) kept her (E/c) eyes on Robin a little longer then the others, she didn't noticed they were both in a weird staring contest until Star grabbed (Name)'s hand dragging her to the kitchen. Star didn't seemed to notice the tension between Robin and (Name) but the others did, Beast boy and Cyborg looked at each other worried but Raven just looked amused.
“ So I have been working on this.. And SURPRISE! ” Star showed (Name) the cake on her hands, it was poorly decorated and clearly this wasn't her first attempt at making such dessert. But to (Name) it was perfect, she laughed in happiness at her girlfriend's action.
(Name) hugged Star tightly “ I love it Star! ”
The titans smiled at the heartwarming scene in front of them before Beast boy ruined it.
“ Aw dude! You didn't told us it was your gf b-day! ” Beast boy whined looking like a kicked puppy, Star looked confused.
“ Why would you want to know? ” Beast boy looked at Star shocked before slapping a hand to his forehead.
“ You forgot about birthday traditions.” Star looked at (Name) who was happily cutting the cake. Beast boy looked around the house which was very huge, seemed like a rich people's apartment yet (Name) seemed so humble. Feeling Beast boy's gaze on the apartment (Name) decided to explain to him why the apartment.
“ I got the apartment so if she wants to move in with me in the future.” (Name) nodded her head at Star who blushed, Beast boy nodded serious before his face broke into a grin.
“ I approve Star! ” Star smiled kindly at Beast boy not noticing Cyborg who walked to (Name).
“ Hey were you alone before we got here? I mean.. You weren't alone on your birthday.. Were you? ” Cyborg looked sympathetic yet happy when (Name) smiled towards Star.
“ It's alright, She is here now. ”
After eating the cake the titans said their goodbyes at Star and (Name). When (Name) closed the door Star flew straight towards her. She hugged her girlfriend of exactly five months with a huge grin.
“ Happy birthday (Name).. I love you.”
“ Thank you Koriand'r I love you too.” (Name) smiled seeing Star's now red cheeks.
Star looked at (Name)'s neck which had a ugly looking red gash. She looked worried seeing the gash continued from the neck to the back but (Name) simply brushed it off. Star hummed before remembering something.
“ Beast boy told me something about a special present. Now that you are 19 and I'm 18 he said you could have it.” Star said looking unsure if she was saying what Beast boy taught her correctly.
(Name) looked at Star confused “Have what?”
“ My V card? ” Star watched as (Name)'s body froze and her cheeks reddened insignificantly at those words. “ (Name)? Are you-”
“Don'tsaythateveragainpleasedontlistentoBeastBoy! ” (Name) completely lost her cool making Star look at her shocked, (Name) went upstairs to take a shower making Star giggle at how adorable she was acting.
“ So? ”
“ So what? ”
“ Do you like her? ” Cyborg looked at Robin as he drove them all back to the Titan tower. The leader had stared outside the window since the beginning of the ride in a trance.
“ There might be something behind those calm (E/c) eyes.” Robin said making Beast boy and Cyborg look at each other worried.
“ But that is for Star to uncover.” Robin looked at Raven through the window who stared at him blankly. “ After all she is Star's other half.”
Those words were hanging on the air, Beast boy looked uncomfortable thinking about Terra, Cyborg looked at the road ahead thinking about the future of the team, Raven looked outside her window lost in her thoughts. Robin looked at his gloved hands with a frown and furrowed eyebrows.
“ I guess so..”

1. Aran
The match between black jackals and schweiden adlers was about to start. You see the two teams, a cluster of black and white jerseys on the opposites, and play with the ID card hanging around your neck. The stadium was starting to fill out, but it's okay. You were near the vip section since you weren't there as a spectator, rather working for one of the sponsors. Being in the public relations department sure helped in getting the best spots, as you could see the entire court from where you stood. Also, there were lesser people around, something you were grateful for.
The announcers began their announcement, and Hinata's name came up in the beginning. He was doing his debut with this game, and you smiled to yourself. He deserved to be in such a great team. Your eyes then sweep from player to player in both the teams, before landing on ushijima.
Hot dang.
Not gonna lie, he was attractive. His tall figure flexed when he did warm ups, making the jersey tightened around the biceps. You blinked, eyes zeroing on them. Yep, they fine.
But that wasn't why you were his fan. At least that's what you always tell yourself that you totally liked him for his skills. Unfortunately, the truth couldn't be hidden from the voice beside you as it suddenly stated, "not gonna lie, he got a good physique."
The tone was a playful one, but it still didn't make you any less embarrassed. Specially when it came from an equally attractive man who is also selected to lead the Japan's volleyball team in the olympics.
"m-mr Aran." you stutter in his presence. He had shades on, maybe trying to escape the paparazzi's eyes and his face was neutral.
Why is he talking to you? AND WHY DID HE HAVE TO CATCH YOU OGLING OVER MUSCLES.
Aran smiled at you, feeling a bit flustered himself. He isn't the teasing type, and he would definitely not tease someone he met for the first time.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to embarrass you." he says, palms up in surrender.
You laugh nervously, turning back to the match. The first whistle blows, and the game begins.
"are you supporting the adlers?" he asks after minutes of silence.
You shake your head, focused on the game. "no. I'm with msby."
Aran's eyebrows furrow in amusement. He wanted to ask you something, and you knew what. It would seem like you're supporting the adlers because of ushijima, but in fact you weren't.
So before he could ask you further, you decided to clear the misconception. "sure, I like ushijima. He's a great player. But I've worked for the other team, and I know how much they rock. Moreover it's Hinata's first game with them. They have to win."
Again, Aran is a little surprised. You seemed into the match, your body moving on reflex with the flow of the game. Your little whispers of encouragement for the black clad team was...cute.
Then he notices the card hanging around your neck. It was only for the official members, like volunteers or sponsors. So he wondered which part did you belong to. Moreover the place where you both stood – wasn't allowed to the public. It was for players and the management team.
"are you a volunteer?" Aran took up the courage to ask you.
You glanced at him, before smiling. "no. I'm part of the PR team for one of the sponsors of the tournament. So I have a pass to be here."
He nods at your words, and a sudden roar around the stadium takes both his and your attention to the super spike ushijima just pulled.
"your crush scored against the team you're rooting for. How do you feel?" he asks you, smirking at the flustered expression on your face.
You laugh a little, shaking your head. "he's not my crush. He's just a player I really admire."
"right...that's why you were giving him googly eyes."
You grow stiff at the words. First of all, you seriously felt anxious standing near Aran. He was not only a great player, but he's also very handsome and he doesn't have any reason to talk to you. Not that you minded, since you are used to interacting with popular players. But none of them have ever used such a...teasing tone with you before.
And here he is, trying to be friendly with a no one like you (at least that's what you think).
"you know." you suddenly say, your nervousness diminishing a little. "I was an intern in the MSBY black jackals PR team."
Why did you say that? You wish you had the answer. Best guess is you don't want another word about ushijima and his muscles out of this man's mouth. And how you were staring at them.
"oh? So that's why you're supporting them." Aran chimes in a thoughtful manner, eyes on the game. Atsumu had just served sakusa, and a sense of pride filled his chest looking at his junior.
"yeah. That's part of it. Another part is because they are amazing at what they do. I've seen it first hand. Not that adlers are bad or anything..." you finish in a mumble. You certainly didn't want to seem biased.
Aran gave out a laugh at your words, highly amused by now. You were awkward and nervous, that much was obvious, but it was funny to see you masking it. He didn't know why he came to stand beside you, he just saw a lone figure who probably didn't look like they cared for what's around them, and decided to stand there when he saw your zoned out expression. It looked funny. Following your line of vision, he sees ushijima warming up. You must have thought no one was around so you didn't bother hiding your expression, and Aran caught you. And he doesn't regret it one bit.
"you were an intern. Which means you didn't have a lot of interaction with the boys huh?" he asks.
"no, not really. I did talk to them a couple of times, when we had to promote the players. The most I've worked with is hinata, as he was new. So I'm familiar with him more than the others."
"cool. You know Atsumu? He was my teammate in school as well." he states, smirking.
You give him a tight smile. "yeah I know. Everyone knows."
Aran's smile drops. Right. Atsumu was popular. Who also had a Wikipedia page for himself. So did Aran. Of course people will know.
Clearing his throat, he doesn't say anything, but stares at you. You had a very simple aura about you. And he kinda dig that. You looked at the players taking a break before the second half of the game, which your team was leading, by the way. The only reason Aran had come was because Atsumu insisted he does. And because Osamu had his stall perched outside the stadium – something he had to check out. Seeing the twins grow up made him feel like a mother watching her children grow up.
Aran suddenly had the urge to ask for your number. But he wasn't sure. You didn't seem the type to share contacts just because the other person is popular or attractive. Moreover he had been getting this feeling that you didn't want to talk to him. And even if not a lot of words were shared between you two – he quite enjoyed this conversation. Too bad you didn't feel the same. According to him.
But oh whatever. You won't know unless you try eh? YOLO.
That's what Aran thought when he decided to ask you. "what's your name? I'm sorry I didn't ask earlier."
You turn to him, eyes widening. Did the Aran ojiro ask your freaking name?
Butterflies, calm down. It's not the time.
"y/n." you say, trying to be as calm as possible.
"y/n." he repeats, your name rolling off like Hershey chocolate syrup from his tongue. Wait what?
"it's a pretty name." he smiles.
It took everything in you to not jump in excitement. Is Aran flirting with you? You don't know whether you should panic or fangirl. It's almost like, fight or flight.
"thanks." you reply, tucking your hair behind the ear. Aran is still smiling, his eyes creasing into crescent moons.
Silence. Awkward silence.
You don't know what else to say. No one prepared you for this type of situation. And the same could be said for the man in front of you. No one told him he is meeting a potential soulmate today.
Breaking the tension first, you check your watch and tell Aran, "uh, I gotta go. The match is coming to an end, and I have to get ready for the press conference."
Aran almost, almost frowns in disappointment. "don't you want to see who wins?" truthfully, he didn't want you to go just yet.
At that you couldn't help but giggle. Are you sure it's the same guy who is the ace for his team and who is going to lead Japan's team?
"mr Aran, I'll know anyway. It's going to be announced throughout the stadium. And in the conference." you say, turning to the score board. "moreover, msby is leading. They are gonna win this." you finish, determination in your voice.
With the conviction you said those words, Aran wished he could get them for himself personally. He wished you could only cheer for him. Because if you did, there's no way he'd even think of losing.
"right. My bad. See you around?" he says, hoping for a positive response.
You thought about it for a moment. Is this right? You are no fool, you completely understand what's going on here. The question is, why.
Aran seemed to notice your hesitation. "it's okay, if you don't want to. No pressure." he says, giving you a smile that didn't really look like a smile.
Way to go y/n, you heartbreaker.
You suddenly had an idea. Quickly taking out your phone, you opened your instagram and shot a text to Aran. "that should do..." you whisper.
Aran looks at you confused. What were you doing?
Smiling, you wave him a goodbye and run off towards the direction of a group of media people.
What just happened?
Aran blinks at your retreating figure when his phone buzzes. It was Osamu. He smiles, and then his eyes go towards the notification. Someone had texted him on instagram. And that someone was you.
"hey. Let's talk!"
He stares at your text for a good minute before bursting out laughing. A couple of people looked at him laughing at something on his phone, but he didn't care. The text gave such a dorky vibe he couldn't help it.
He sent you a laughing emoji, and shoved his phone back into his pocket before walking away, the smile not leaving his face.
Maybe he did meet his soulmate already.
***
It has been exactly four months since you and Aran started talking on Instagram. Yet, Aran hasn't asked for your number. He just didn't get the courage to. He is almost convinced it was love at first sight with you, because since the day he saw you and spoke to you, till now, when he's laughing at the memes you had spammed him with, his head hasn't been felt this light. Even Atsumu had commented during their practice for the olympics, that he was seeing sparkles around him. Of course, that got the setter a smack on the head, but Aran knew it was because of you.
What was he supposed to do. He was falling for you, and he was falling hard.
Looking at the conversation y'all shared one last time, Aran decide enough is enough. He was going to ask for your number.
His fingers hovered over the keyboard, hesitation settling faster than it can be allowed. But will you give him your number? Talking on social media is different, and talking through your personal number is different. It was more...intimate.
Sighing, he throws his phone on the bed, taking his head in his hands. The game was in a few days, and he had to do something about you because you're all he's thinking about.
Suddenly his phone rings and he looks at the caller. Aran has never looked so done than he's doing now.
"what is it?" he answers the call.
"is this how you greet your favourite twin?" Atsumu replies from the other side in mock offended tone.
"I'm not coming to the bar, if that's the reason why you called."
"h-how did you know?" Atsumu asks, almost yelling in the phone.
"because that's like, the only reason you'd call me at this time?"
"..."
"fair enough" the blonde states after a minute of silence.
Just then Aran had a thought. It wouldn't hurt to ask right?
"remember a couple of months back, say, earlier this year, someone had interned for your team." Aran says.
"hmm? A lot of people interned Aran san, who are you talking about?" Atsumu asks, confused.
Aran gave him your name, running down a brief description of how you look, and added the fact that you had spoken to hinata because he was new as well.
"hmm...y/n...I think I remember her." Atsumu says.
Aran's eyes lit up. "so d–"
"are you interested in her?" came the question from the other line.
Shit.
Regret fills Aran not a second after that question. He never considered the fact that he was asking the last person he should ask, specially for a girl's number. This ain't gonna end well.
"...yeah." he answers, a defeated sigh escaping his lips.
Another minute of silence. Cue the dramatic reaction in 3...2...
"ARAN SAN DID YOU FINALLY MEET THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE!?"
It was so loud that Atsumu's voice echoed even when Aran had literally walked away from the phone after setting it down on the bedside table. Why isn't he surprised?
There were some more loud incoherent response, that he didn't bother listening to. He ultimately picked up the phone when a series of 'hellos' flooded through the phone.
"yeah, I'm here." he says, cutting the question off.
"gosh, seriously? How? Why? When? WHAT!?" Atsumu asks, flooding the call with questions again.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Aran narrates the incident briefly. Atsumu screams again.
"I can't believe you found a girl for yourself! That too someone I know!"
Aran smiles as your picture comes to his mind. "yeah. I can't believe it myself."
"so when are you asking her out?"
The smile dropped. "I don't have her number." he mumbled.
"say what?"
"I...don't have her number. I was meaning to ask you if you have it or not." he says, this time more clearly.
"you...why don't you have her number again?" Atsumu asks, perplexed.
"because I felt she'd stop talking to me. She isn't exactly the most open person around."
"hmm. That's kinda true, I'll admit." the Miya says, "even when she was an intern here, she mostly stuck to herself and her work. But she was friendly."
Aran nods to no one in particular. "so? Do you have it?"
"I gotta check. Like you said, she was closer to hinata. If I don't have it then he might have it." Atsumu says before continuing. "wait a minute. What do I get from this?"
Aran's eyebrow raises in confusion. "an awesome sister-in-law?" he states like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
Atsumu laughs. "very nice. But I'm serious."
"I'm serious too." Aran says in heartbeat. Did Atsumu think he wasn't serious about you? Rude.
"woah. Okay. But if I get the number, you gotta come to the bar with me." the voice from the other side says.
"cool."
He could at least do this if he gets your number right?
Atsumu cuts the call with a cheer. A few minutes in, Aran's phone pings, and there it was – your number.
I didn't have it. Got it from shoyo. Atsumu wrote.
Thanks man.
You better be there. I'll be waiting.
A'ight.
Feeling giddy, Aran saves the number and sends out a silent prayer that you haven't changed the number.
hey. Is this y/n? Aran texts you, legs bouncing as he sits on his bed.
A second later. who is this?
Aran
Suddenly the phone rings. Panic sets in Aran. He didn't expect you to call.
Picking up the phone, he kept silent, waiting for you to speak.
"how did you get my number?" was the first thing you said.
"I asked Atsumu. Who asked Hinata."
You made a noise, kinda like in disbelief. Then you start laughing. "why didn't you ask me?"
Aran looked guilty. "I...didn't think you would give me your number."
"ah..." you trail off. You couldn't deny it. You were a skeptical person. "I didn't think Hinata would still have my number though..."
"maybe he still thinks you're his friend."
Friend? Sure, Hinata was a friendly person. But being 'friends' with the staff wasn't exactly ideal for players.
"maybe." you say softly.
"ah, I wanted to ask you something." Aran says, after a minute of silence.
Your heart picks up. Was he going to drop the L-bomb? You couldn't deny the affection brewing in you, specially after talking to him for a couple of months now, and knowing how sweet he is.
"w-what did you want to ask?" you ask, stuttering a little.
"will you be there on the day of the game?"
You had the urge to roll your eyes and pass a snarky comment. If there was something that amused you like heck, it was this habit of Aran where he would ask the most obvious questions. Like meeting a someone in the movie theater and asking "whatchu doing here?"
"yes. We are one of the sponsors." you answer, moving aside the urge. This sweet man doesn't deserve that sass.
"oh great. So...will you meet me before the game? I gotta tell you something."
Your eyes widen. Millions questions run in your mind and all point to one direction – something that you don't want to believe is true.
"okay." you answer, your voice coming out a little strained.
"really? Cool! I'll see you then. Goodnight." Aran beams before cutting the call.
You blink at the black screen of your phone. Did he really call you for this? Men are so confusing.

Aran was nervous. The room was brimming with men dressed in the red team uniform, and his eyes was floating between the teammates. It lingered a longer on ushijima, and he mind went back to the time when you had commented on ushijima's birthday post with lots of hearts. The jealousy he felt, sheesh.
Then he turns to sakusa. According to you, he was the only one you never spoke to even once. He mostly kept to himself, but every fellow intern with you swooned over the mysterious man. He had grimaced at that. Did y/n too swooned? Guess we'll never know.
Finally, his eyes land on Atsumu who was talking to bokuto. He was the only one who knew about you, and Aran worried that he will open his big mouth, but the blonde proved to be more faithful than that. But it still didn't stop him from hammering Aran with questions about you.
Aran's eyes flickered to his phone every other minute, waiting for the text from you, saying you were here. You had told him you'll text him, so he was waiting for the go.
"you have been staring at the phone since forever." a chirpy voice brings him out of the daydream.
He turns to see Hinata, smiling up at him. "are you waiting for something?"
Before Aran could answer, his phone pings and the screen turns on, displaying your name (that had multiple hearts beside it) and the text saying you were waiting for him outside in the corridor.
Both he and Hinata stared at the phone, at your text. Suddenly the tangerine goes, "is y/n your girlfriend Aran san!?"
And boy, was he loud.
Every pair of eyes in the room turned to their flustered looking captain, who just stood there speechless. Atsumu, who was mirroring Aran, jumped to defend him.
"h-hey now. Let's leave him alone. I'm sure it's nothing–"
"ah, I see y/n standing there though. Hi y/n!"
Atsumu turns to see bokuto and Hinata at the entrance, waving at someone. Too late.
Slowly everyone poured out of the room, looking at the one who apparently stole their leader's heart.
You.
And you? Yeah, you are definitely representing a new born calf with your shaky legs. No matter how many people you have met through your job – a group of hunks, who are also national players mind you, and at least a head taller than you, staring at you like you're some sort of star, doesn't help.
It looked like a herd of huskies looking at a small mouse.
You wanted to run away.
Hinata walks up to you, clapping your shoulder lightly. "long time no see y/n!" he greets you, smile wide.
You give him a nervous smile. "hey shoyo kun..."
"so you're dating Aran san?" bokuto pipes in from behind Hinata.
Your eyes almost pop out of your sockets? What in the world...
"no I'm not." you say, firmly but politely.
His eyebrows scrunched in a frown. "then why did he have hearts beside your name?" he murmurs to himself.
You didn't quite catch that. So you ask, "pardon?"
"nothing. It's nothing." you finally hear the voice of the person because of who you came all the way here. And even put in a little effort with the makeup.
Aran walks up to you three with long strides, his expression almost panicky. He stands beside you and sighs. "guys. Please. Let her breathe."
Both hinata and bokuto look at each other before exchanging a knowing smirk and step back a few steps. Something you were grateful for. It was getting too much.
Aran smiled at you softly before introducing you to everyone. A series of 'hi' and 'hello' circled around in response. Hinata, bokuto and Atsumu knew who you were already. Atsumu even went beyond and did a dramatic bow before taking your hands in his and tried to place a kiss but Aran's loud clearing of throat and your panicked face stopped him.
But nothing prepared you for ushijima's turn. He just stood in front of you, his eyes unblinking and his face without expression. You almost mistook him for an android, when he gives you a small smile. "hello."
It was a polite smile, something people do out of curtsy but that didn't stop you from internally squealing because OH MY GOODNESS USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI JUST SMILED AT ME.
Aran saw how your palms were in a fist. You were trying not to fangirl, he noticed. It made him a little sad to be honest. If only he would get the same reaction from you.
"hello." you say, trying to focus. "all the best for the game. All of you."
Everyone thanked you before they all went inside the room, leaving you alone with Aran. They could see how eager he was to be with you in some privacy.
Aran turns to you and smiles again, but that quite didn't reach his eyes. You frowned at that.
"are you nervous for the game?" you ask him.
Aran shakes his head. "a little. But I know we'll be fine."
"then what's got you looking so forlorn?"
Aran chuckles at your choice of words. He knew you liked reading classics, and that's where you got most of your vocabulary from. "it's nothing. I'm happy to see you. Sorry for the chaos in the beginning." he points towards the door.
You smile. "it's okay. I was a little surprised when I saw bokuto san and shoyo."
"yeah..."
Aran looked distracted. His hands were clasped together and he looked everywhere but you. You tilted your head, wondering what's gotten into him.
"mr Aran, are you okay?" you ask, your voice carrying concern, something that felt like music to the man in front of you.
He stares at you. You squirm a little under the intense gaze, and as much as you wanted to stare back and get lost in those eyes, you had to be sure this is going towards where you think it's going.
Suddenly Aran steps closer, his chest hitting your chin. You look up at him and before you could understand what's happening, he cups your hands in his large hands and place a deep, but soft kiss on your lips.
At that moment, your first instinct was to check whether there were other people in the area.
His lips were soft. You always thought they were. They looked so soft that you had asked him what he used for his lips and actually went and bought the same chapstick. They were also thick, something you were a little envious of.
But oh well, those same luscious lips are smooching the heck outta you.
You grabbed his forearms that held your face delicately. Aran parted his lips more, and you bit on his bottom lip, earning a soft groan from him.
As for Aran, yeah. You can say he was ready to drop on one knee and ask your hand for marriage. He was THAT crazy about you. And the kiss just took the cherry on the cake.
Aran parted from you, both of your eyes in a daze, before he snapped back to reality. His eyes widened at your hooded eyes and parted lips. He tried to remove his hands from you but your grip on him stopped him.
"you really need to check your surrounding before doing something like that." you state moments later. Your eyes looked more clear now, and you were staring at him with some unknown emotion.
Aran gulped and looked around, finding the place empty except for the two of you.
"I'm so sor–"
"sorry doesn't cut it." you cut him off. You weren't even smiling. Are you mad at him?
Aran doesn't know why he suddenly kissed you. He just wanted to. You looked beautiful. You are beautiful. And Aran wanted to kiss you.
Suddenly your face breaks into a small smile. "I don't need your apology. I want you to ask me out so I can say yes."
He just looks at you, stunned. So...his feelings are reciprocated?
Aran wanted nothing more than to just hug you and jump around in joy. Even shout out his love for you. But if he did that it will cause trouble. So he's gonna reserve that for when the two of you are alone.
Placing his forehead on yours, he asks in a whisper. "will you be mine y/n? I'll treat you like a queen."
"only if you get me a selfie with ushijima and his autograph."
Aran laughs, his head too high in the clouds to even feel jealous. He knows you don't mean it. He knows you are his. And he is yours.
"but it's you I'll be cheering the most for. Get em' captain." you finish the sentence.
Aran nods, your foreheads still against each other. He wanted to cry. But no, not yet. He's going to win this game for you. And hug you in front of everyone. And then cry in your arms. And then–
"you should go inside. It's almost time." your voice snaps him back from the fantasy.
He looks at you, now standing a little apart from him. Your hands were beside you, and you were giving him the googly eyes now.
Taking your hands in his, he kisses your knuckles. "I love you." he says, and walks off, leaving you a hot mess.
Well, this is interesting, you think, smiling in anticipation for what's to come.
Best boy Aran deserves a good scenario too. And I hope it lives up to his expectations. 😬
I got three more scenarios coming up for my three favourite boys – Osamu, Suna, and husband Kita. I'm not sure when I'll update it but it's coming soon. Stay tuned.

Hiiii!!! 💫💕🌸🥳
Can I bother with a question... I was (re)watching that zhang qiling edit (not today) - 'cause it's so cool, btw- and I wondered if Reboot Xiaoge’s your favourite one...? And if you're up to answering, what do you think about the other adaptations? Especially (our small bean) xiao yuliang's interpretation of xiaoge?
🤗🌺💐🐰💕
Hey, my precious patootie hehe ILY it always makes me very happy knowing that you rewatch my vids <3
lol dang it, I was kinda hoping to avoid this question, just because I feel like I'd find it hella hard to explain some things, but I'll try my best and hopefully it'll make some sense xD
I'll start from afar bc I wanna try to explain my reasonings, since I don't want to go without arguments into such highly debated question lolz. I talked about this a bit in my previous asks somewhere, but not broadly as to why that one guy hit all the right spots.
So throughout the books Wu Xie always does this wonderful thing, where he very tangibly describes the feeling he gets when Xiaoge is near, I mean like the aura around him. And he always somehow does it so colorful, that this mix of safety, assurance, calmness, composure and some things I can't quite put into one noun, that he brings to him, I think everyone who've read the books can recognize as this almost magical "Xiaoge feeling". It's not just the way he acts in some dangerous situations or smth like that. It's just everything. You either have it or you don't. And here goes my first argument... to me none of them, except for Huang Junjie and Yuliang have it.
I mean it's not even the obvious stuff, it's like the way they move during the action scenes, the way they even stand and hold themselves, the way they touch Wu Xie, the tone of their voices (both of which are like soothing as fuck), little things you'd think wouldn't matter, but when you watch it and all the puzzle pieces are together, you're like... fuck yeah, thats him.
Also not really that weighty of a point, but to me there's always a joy to see that the actor who plays the character not only gets what's he's playing, but also loves it, bc it's always seen on screen. Usually when some asked about the character they play and what they have in common for example they answer with obvious things like if some character is introverted they're like "well I also don't talk very much" or smth like that, you know what I mean. When I was watching interviews of Yuliang and Huang Junjie I was just smiling so much, bc they've said such things that made me go "yeah, Qiling is safe in their hands".
In Reboot case working in such close proximity with the author definitely also played a huge role here. Bc it kinda gets complicated in some aspects since the books are written from Wu Xie's point of view and you can't only base your picture on his perspective, just bc it's coming from a person who after being basically told "you're my whole world" goes "I'm just a person he randomly passes by in his long life" in his thoughts. Not only he's utterly clueless and dumb when it comes to all this, that he wouldn't notice the way Qiling looks at him and other things, its also not that kind of book, that would go "I suddenly caught poker face looking at me like I'm his whole existence" (and I honestly don't want it to be that book lmao). So you have to take into the account here stuff like what author says to get the whole picture, bc if you look at that from the point of Qiling's view for example, this shit takes a whole wild turn. So I really loved that in UN and Reboot ways of showing Qiling's feelings were well thought out and fit the timeline.
Bc it also works both ways, when it comes to other adaptations. Like Qiling is very and I mean ETREMELY hard to win over. We all know that it was a very long process of gaining his trust and even longer for him to fall for Wu Xie to the point of him being his everything. So what I want in those interpretations is for them to get at which point of their relationships what Xiaoge's behavior makes sense. I do not need any fanservice if it ruins the character, I'll just hate it. The thing that their feelings didn't come out of nowhere is what I LOVE about this ship, bc I'm not the kind of person who believes in "we love for nothing" thing and love at first sight thing (only "got hots for each other" at first sight), bc thats bull. Wu Xie became his everything after a long LONG process of getting to know each other. At the beginning tho he was the same stranger to him as everyone else. So what Reboot Qiling feels for Wu Xie is not what UN's Qiling feels for Wu Xie yet and what UN's Qiling feels for Wu Xie is not what Lost Tomb's Qiling feels for Wu Xie (which at that point was nothing). And I feel like not everyone gets the fact that you can totally wreck the character if you make him behave not the way he behaved in that particular time. Like for example, if someone would make a MDZS adaptation where at the very beginning of their relationships LZ treats WWX the way he treated him after the reincarnation just because "who cares, it's still LZ", that would be dumb af, see what I mean. So Xiaoge having a weakness for Wu Xie in part one is automatically not a Xiaoge to me, bc a huge part of his character and the thing NPSS speaks a lot about is just how IMPOSSIBLE it is for someone to catch his attention and how long it took Wu Xie to get there. So let's just say to me UN and Reboot Qilings for the first time didn't feel like some mashup or character summary/parody, they were Qilings the way they are supposed to be in that part of the story, bc it was the only times someone actually bothered to coordinate it.
Now as to why I prefer one to another. Xiaoge has this thing... the way he holds himself with other people, that is sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally suppressing.
Like everyone knows that if you're a passerby, Qiling genuinely doesn't fucking care and would in fact be pretty harsh about it in terms of treating people like they do not deserve their attention. He won't be like "please, don't bother me", he simply ignored them like an empty space. He is also like that with acquaintances who in his opinion do not deserve his respect like that girl who went hysterical, bc she was upset that he was the only one who wasn't drooling on her like all other men on the crew, Chen Wenjin, Wu Xie's uncles and etc. He's not openly disrespectful unless they trigger him in some way (usually by trying to act superior or later on for not treating Wu Xie right), but if they do, he will in fact remind them their place in sometimes a very rude way, at times humiliating them in front of ppl bc he looks younger than them and talking starts.
He's always doing things on his own terms and hates being told what to do. Like he legit scared Chen Wenjin just with a look and the tone of his voice when he said "let go", when she tried to command him on the mission and grabbed him trying to lecture him about what he should or shouldn't do. That's why Wu Erbai didn't even try anything like this and let him do whatever he needed to do and equally lead the mission in Reboot. And why the scene where Wu Xie 'commands' "Xiaoge, come back" and he immediately listens holds another special place in my heart. Bc he NEVER and I mean NEVER allows such things to ANYONE.
So here I came to a point of why despite loving them both dearly, my favorite Xiaoge is Huang Junjie.
I have this dissonance with Yuliang's version when to me in many scenes it felt like he and Wu Xie are the same age. Like if he was Xiaoge, but in his 20s. In his interactions with Chen Wenjin the dynamics was turned upside down, with him being okay with her telling him what to do and just in general the way she behaved with him. Same as like I didn't always quite believe him to be on par with older generation or even Pangzi, it just felt like he was truly younger than them. Some scenes that I do find extremely cute just don't fit book Xiaoge at all, I'm talking about some moments like his face when Wu Xie gave him food, or him pouting and many things he's done, when you were going "uwu he's a baby". He just never gives me this feeling in the books ever, not just bc he's 100 years old, but sad fact here.. bc he's simply unable to behave that way. Like in the books you'll desperately want to shower him with love, but he's just... I can't quite explain, it's very sad.
I guess it's just you know these characters, who are like hundreds years old, but look like they're 18? I think you have to be very careful with how you write those, so you could deliver that. And in UN because of some changed dynamics and scenes I straight up forgot about it, until Wu Xie threw some joke like "he's an old man" in front of a restaurant.
In Reboot Xiaoge could make Wu Erbai stutter with one move, put Yuliang's version in the same scene, I just don't think it would've worked. Like I'm trying to imagine him telling UN's Wu Erbai what to do and having troubles already haha. Same as I don't think he's capable to be genuinely mad at Wu Xie, and HJJ nailed it esp in one of my fav when Wu Xie was laughing at Pangzi's joke about him catching cold. The look he gave him and how ZYL just retreated was priceless xD. And boy could Qiling get angry with him in the books!
Otherwise I didn't have any drastic fall outs there, like with Joseph's Wu Xie and Ah Ning's death, because that was just too much of a difference, but there were still moments where it was once again this the same scene completely different emotion thing. He was more tolerable to ppl in general here, more pliable. And 50% of the time he gave me the cute lost kitten type, which I just cannot connect with the feeling he gave me in the books. His personality is a cat type 100%, but like seriously "cute baby" is the last word combination I would ever apply to book Xiaoge, but with Yuliang's version it's easily applied. So small bean he is indeed. With Joseph and in UN it works incredibly perfect to me, but the way he is in UN is at times too gentle. And there are lots of scenes where Joseph himself looked at him in a way "you're too cute, let me pinch your cheeks" kind of way, or the way he like sat down next to him on the coast, he was a bit babying him at times. I can't imagine book pingxie doing that. It's just a whole different vibe, the way he takes care of him, the way he lets him take care of him... it's...uuuuuuuuu another vibe (see, I'm so good at explaining lmao).
It's also kinda funny to me, bc HJJ who's the smallest and who irl truly a kitten never once gave me that feeling on screen for some reason. The one babied and loved by every crew and old ppl, who was cutely hiding behind ZYL's back on set, who won't sue an ex who almost ruined his career bc of how stupid she is, bc he "didn't want to hurt her", who according to staff can't even step on a fly, whom CMH was petting for several minutes after he had to hit him with a prop brick bc he didn't wanna do it lmao. I was just like.. ok, this is hilarious, bc I in fact didn't expect him to be a small bean, so watching all the bts made me go LOOOOL. Probably ZYL acting like a 3 year old helped him transform and the age difference problem got lost lmao
As for other adaptations. You know I can't watch seriously "Lost Tomb", I think some ppl probably have some nostalgic feeling about it, but I'm sorry, to me it's fucking hilarious. Like I've already said it looks like some type of twilight parody thing or smth. Soft damselle Wu Xie esp killed me, bc 1st when he ever was that, 2nd in the first book he's salty af, I don't even know this dude in this interpretation, I was like who's this. YangYang I know him from other things, I really don't think it's his role. I know the script and everything is bad. I know the costume and hair are horrendously funny, but it's just I was watching him in those action scenes and was like no... just I'm sorry but I'm not feeling it. I simply just don't know what to say about the whole thing seriously, bc I don't even know where to start. 10 episodes of some salad finished with one mutilated scene from book 6 for no reason the fact that characters are weird themselves also I can't quite tell, did they really just meet or they imply smth else lmao.. I'm sorry, but I do not get it.
I've given LT2 another try after finishing all the books and I've dropped it half way through, Cheng Yi wasn't even close to how I pictured Xiaoge in any aspect. He in fact didn't do anything OOC or off the book or anything, I just was like "not my Qiling". Happens sometimes.
Explore with the note you already know how I feel about this lol let's just forget.
P.S. To be fair here also maybe we should take into account the fact that some got luckier than other with "at which point" Xiaoge they're playing. Like for example, "Wrath of the Sea" and "Qingling Tree" books which is LT2 is not exactly you can say much about Qiling there, he trolls them there in the beginning (in a brilliant way that was totally lost in the adaptation) and he is there in "Wrath of Sea", but it's not the part that can make his character shine in any way, there's not much things happening there that would make you fall for him or get to know him; Yuliang grabbed the fattest piece bc it's middle several books, when they're always together and his character shines the most in terms of clues about past, opening up to Wu Xie and Pangzi, and there are many many events where you can get the picture of what kind of man he is; Huang Junjie grabbed my fav piece of utter devotion, where he's already fully and wholeheartedly belongs to Wu Xie, that I'm just weak for. So like... there's also that I guess xD.

Chapter One
Rae pulled her box braids in a secured bun as she stared indignantly at herself through the smudged mirror.  She was beyond ready for her shift to be over at the esteemed club “Jinx”,  but her boss, much to her dismay, ordered her to do overtime. She had been working since 1 that afternoon and was scheduled to get off at 10 p.m, but as she looked at the rusted clock hanging on the wall it read that it was currently midnight. It’s not like overtime was a complete drag since Rae did need to stack up on extra cash, but she still had a life of her own. She didn’t want to spend all of her time overworking herself for a few bucks, but the way things were looking, It seemed like this was just her fated path. A chime resounded from behind Rae, making her shift her eyes on the reflective glass towards the bright fluorescent lights now flooding the locker room.
“Rae, Narco needs you to serve this table right now. I offered to take your place since I knew you needed a breather, but Narco insisted that It was you who took care of them.” Jasmine, Rae’s co-worker and good friend announced while holding the door open. Rae rolled her eyes at her boss’s request and adjusted the fanny pack around her waist before turning to Jasmine with a fake smile.
“Thanks for looking out for me, Jas. You’re a real one.” Rae nodded with a sigh and walked past her, too deep in her own thoughts to notice the sympathetic expression that had come across her co-worker’s face.
On the other side of the club, Gojo sat in one of the leather booths with his legs crossed and an obvious bored expression on his face as he rested his head on the palm of his hand. He was tasked to come and scope out this bustling club that catered towards the rich and high status criminals and find the special grade curse that lurked among them.
Gojo yawned.
Clubs like these were never his style and the flashing lights and blaring music never failed to give him anything short of a massive headache.
Gojo whistled as he surveyed the vast crowd of individuals, sipping on the drink he had ordered from the bar not too long ago. Upon scanning the dark club for his designated culprit, he found himself halting once he saw a woman come from the back room and make her way through the dancefloor. She looked to be just another waitress to the simple eye, but the anomaly that caught Gojo’s attention was a curse blob that was attached to her back. He knew that he currently had a mission at hand, a rather important one at that, but he also was aware that If he left the curse attached to the waitress alone It would end up consuming her.
Gojo exhaled dramatically and stretched his limbs as he stood up from his seat.
Exercising one little curse wouldn’t hurt, right?
Meanwhile, Rae persistently pushed through the dancing bodies and to her relief, finally made It out the sea of intoxicated people. It was times like these where she questioned If this job was really for her and If it would be more beneficial if she just threw in the towel.
However, when that thought occurred she’d always snap out of It because she knew that she had to keep pushing for Amari, even If said job was stressing her out on all accounts.
“Dang, my back is killing me.” Rae muttered to herself, feeling as if something heavy had suddenly glued itself to her. This pain had been bothering her all day and she briefly wondered If she should spoil herself with a massage when she got home. Nonetheless, she shook that uneasy feeling off and continued to walk towards the section her boss told her to serve. They were in a back desolate corner and as she got closer she could hear the loud and raunchy club music start to fade and a more classical song took its place.
She sucked her teeth. These people must be really important, she thought to herself as she walked up the few spiraling steps and opened the veil to the entrance of the secluded area . Upon which, she saw her boss sitting across from the man who she assumed was the customer.
“Rae, so glad you could make It!” Her boss said with a raspy voice and the biggest smile when he caught sight of her. Narco was a very bony man, with greasy blonde hair that stopped at his shoulders, and a mouth full of artificial gold that shined every time he spoke. Rae learned over the past year while working here that Narco was a rotten and crooked man who would have no problem selling himself  if it meant earning a quick buck.
“I want you to serve our special guest here with your utmost respect and give him everything he requests.” Narco chirped loudly, his attention now pulled back to the man in front of him. It took everything within Rae to resist rolling her eyes at Narco’s overly sweet tone as she walked towards the table while getting her notepad out.
“Of course, sir.” Rae nodded while clicking the black pen in her hand. “Hello, my name is Rae and I'll be your server for tonight, what can I get you?” She said politely and when she looked up from her notepad, she tensed from the customers' harsh glare. Her boss’s phone suddenly rang and he ended up quickly excusing himself from the room, leaving Rae and the customer to be the only ones left in the area.
The customer, now that she thought of It, undoubtedly gave her a bad vibe. The man in front of her had long, burgundy hair that was pulled back into a low ponytail and he was clad in an all black suit that was slightly unbuttoned, displaying the black tattoos that decorated his chest and neck.  He sat comfortably with one arm thrown lazily behind his neck and the other balled on the table, his narrowed green eyes piercing Rae’s brown face.
“Do you know who I am?” Were the words that finally left the man’s mouth.
Rae scrunched her face up in confusion because she indeed did not know who this weirdo was, nor did she really care. This is exactly why she hated working night shifts because she always had to deal with creeps like these and the situation was even less ideal since her boss had left the area.
“No.. I’m afraid I don’t.” Rae admitted, making the man across from her erupt in obnoxious laughter.
“That explains why your presence felt so weak to me when you first arrived. No matter,” The man’s playful demeanor suddenly ceased and he turned to Rae, a dark shadow now casted onto his face. “My name is Hitomi.”
Rae tensed up because the atmosphere in the room had changed to something suffocating and the feeling in her gut told her that this man was dangerous. She debated If she wanted to avert the situation back to her serving him or to get the hell away from him.
The latter, at this moment, seemed like the best option.
She awkwardly cleared her throat as she took a step back, already formulating an excuse in her mind as to why she needed to leave.
“Freeze.” The man spoke lowly and as if on cue, Rae’s body went still.
The man that went by Hitomi got up from his seat and ran his hand through the hairs that framed his face, revealing a scar that fell diagonally across his right eye. Rae struggled to move, and no matter how hard she willed herself to open her mouth or clench her hands, she stayed in the exact same spot.
“I’ve been looking-” The man spoke suddenly, making Rae move her eyes back to him, “-for a very long time for the jewel that I was missing and I can proudly say that tonight I finally hit the jackpot. See, our meeting tonight was no mere coincidence, it was planned and fated to become. That’s why I came to this place for one reason and for one reason only,” Hitomi slowly sauntered towards her immobile body, licking his bottom lip in the process. “and that reason was you, Rae.”
Hitomi then stood directly in front of Rae with an evil glint swirling through his jade eyes and reached his hand out towards her, but a force abruptly pushed him back, causing his body to be thrown into the table that he was previously seated at.
“That’s enough.” A tall and slender man with messy, white hair and sunglasses hiding his eyes challenged as he peeled back the curtains to this area. Rae stood in the center, now shaken up by Hitomi’s words and by not having the autonomy to move. It was also alarming having seen his body fly across the room without having any witness of something touching him.
“And just who are you?” Hitomi sneered at Gojo as he slowly stood from the spot he had fallen to, dusting his suit off in the process.
“My name is of no importance, all you need to know is that I’m the guy who’s going to be exercising you.” The man curtly replied while rolling up his sleeves and walking closer to him.
Rae knew immediately what was happening just by hearing the white haired man say the words “exercise”. She was familiar with the idea of sorcerers and curses so applying her knowledge to her current situation made all the puzzle pieces fall together.
“But before I handle you,” The white haired man started, then turned his eyes towards the waitress standing in front of him. “I have to do this first.”
Rae suddenly felt a strong wind hit her back, causing her to jolt forward and escape the trance she was put in by Hitomi. Not only could she freely move her body again, but the gnawing feeling of pain that Rae felt on her back from earlier had also seemed to disappear. She turned her body around to see the white haired man wink at her and direct his attention back towards the curse, specifically the curse he was after.
“And this is why I despise you sorcerers, you lot are too confident in your weak abilities. ” Hitomi laughed while staring amusingly at Gojo. Gojo kept silent as he ignored the curse's meaningless words and inched closer towards it, the thought of exercising being the only prevalent thing on his mind.
Hitomi sighed out loud, disappointingly.
“However, judging by your presence, I can tell that you may be more of a problem than I estimated. I guess my plan to take the girl won’t be carried out as soon as I thought.” Hitomi mused and then snapped his fingers soon after. A portal aggressively opened up behind Hitomi, and the intensity of it’s force made the furniture rattle and fall, Rae struggle to move, and Gojo’s feet to become heavier.
Gojo debated If he wanted to use his domain expansion, but he saw that the girl behind him had lost her grip that she had on a chair and started to fly towards the portal. Gojo sucked his teeth with irritation and grabbed her body before she was consumed by it.
“This was fun, but sadly our encounter has to end. Do not worry because I will be back for you, Rae.” Hitomi spoke with a crooked smile on face, and stepped backwards into his portal. Before Gojo could even reach him, the hole had already sealed itself back up and the room now only had him and the disheveled waitress of this club who laid in his arms.
“Are you alright?” Gojo tiredly asked the woman only for her to roughly shrug him off of her.
“Don’t touch me!” The waitress hissed while standing up on wobbly legs. Gojo stared at the upset woman disinterestedly and got up from his position on the floor as well.
“Listen,” Gojo began. “That curse was way more intelligent than I initially thought. I think It would be in your best interest to come with me so I can safely look after you.”
Rae looked at the white haired man as if he had lost his mind.
“Look after me? You and that curse can go to hell. In fact It would be in my best interest if the both of you left me alone.” Rae snapped as she quickly moved past him. As Rae was on her way out of the area completely, she was so lost in thought that she ran straight into her boss’ chest, and when she looked up he stared back at her with a worried expression.
“What happened here?” He questioned incredulously once he saw the mess on the floor, causing him to rush and open up the curtains that would display the rest of the room’s debris. Rae turned around to get the man with the white hair to explain the damages that had transpired, but to her surprise, he had disappeared into thin air just as the cursed man did.
Rae stood behind her boss, now realizing how terrible this all looked on her behalf. The valuable customer and his money were now gone and the whole area was in shambles. She gulped as her boss turned to her with a red face and comical steam shooting from his ears.
“I don’t know what all went on here,” Rae’s boss fumed, causing her to look at him with wide eyes because she already knew what was coming next. “But you’re fired!”

Hi, love the prompt you wrote you truly capture the happy moments and sad moments! I was thinking of a sequel from I don't want to lose you for prompt #148, Thank you.
Prompt List
Thanks! Also that's a perfect name for it! Here you go!
148. “Is this really the time for jokes?” “You always do this.” “Wake me up when it’s over.” “You look happy.” “I’m sorry, do I know you?” “Why can’t I get you out of my head?” Sequel to the “I don’t want to lose you.”
His boyfriend was free, Wukong was free, finally. From what he heard from some demons he had beat up, his boyfriend had been freed by some monk and forced to go on some quest, ew. Macaque needed to save his boyfriend, obviously he was being forced to do this whole thing, who knows what suffering Wukong might have gone through? It was hard work tracking his boyfriend down especially since he heard they were going west to retrieve some scriptures, again ew.
Macaque searched for years then he finally found him. It was in a bustling market place full of disgusting humans. He was currently in disguise while looking at (stealing) the wares and then, he saw him. His boyfriend in all his glory, he was eagerly talking to someone, the monk Macaque guessed, a bright smile on his face. Wukong was wearing different clothes from the last time he saw him and a golden circlet was around his head, he was gorgeous.
Macaque didn’t transform back right away. It would draw too much attention so he quietly stepped towards the other monkey, trying to maintain a neutral face even as the excitement built up in him. His boyfriend had stopped talking to the monk before Macaque tapped his shoulder.
The other monkey turned toward him with an eyebrow raised and asked, “Hm?”
“Wukong! Can’t believe you’re finally out! I’ve been looking all over for you!”
Wukong tilted his head. “I’m sorry, do I know you?” The six eared monkey wanted to facepalm, his boyfriend had special eyes yet he couldn’t use them to spot his own boyfriend.
  “Peaches… it’s me…” he muttered.
Wukong gasped and briefly activated his special eyes. The glow quickly disappeared as he whispered, “Ma-Macaque? It is you… I…”
Macaque smiled. “Nice to see you, Peaches.”
“Li-likewise, give me a second.” Wukong gave him a reassuring glance and then gazed at the monk beside him. He asked the monk, “Master, is it okay if I walk around for a bit?” Master? His boyfriend “Great Sage Equal to Heaven” calling someone master?
The “master” didn’t look up at Wukong as he was too busy examining some vegetables. “Okay, Wukong but please do not draw attention to yourself or cause trouble.”
“Ya sure ya should let him go? He is him after all.” Macaque found the source of the voice and it was a pig demon smirking at his boyfriend.
Wukong scoffed. “Wow, very descriptive, Bajie.”
“Hey! I’m just sayin’ ya might cause trouble.”
  “I would never!” Wukong winked.
“I think oldest brother should be fine,” another demon said.
The master spoke up, “I think Wukong will be fine. Please be careful.”
“Of course, master!” He shouted, Wukong made sure the group wasn’t looking at him then he pulled Macaque away into a forest nearby. Macaque transformed back and analyzed his boyfriend.
“Peaches… it’s great to... you know. I tried searching for you, couldn’t find you before.”
Wukong hugged him. “I… I missed you, Mango.”
Macaque hugged back as he took in the scent of the monkey king. They gave each other a soft and slow kiss on the lips. “Missed you too, Peaches. You look… happy.”
Wukong gave his love a peck on the cheek and exclaimed, “Yes I am! I’ve been traveling all over the place, fighting demons and with the gang! It’s awesome!”
“Glad you’ve been having fun,” he muttered. “So are we going now?”
  “Going?”
“Yea, to carry out our plan against Heaven and what not. To rule, obviously…”
His boyfriend frowned. “Well the plan has changed…”
Macaque raised his eyebrow. “How so? I know you’ve been forced to help these guys. You don’t have to stay here any longer. I’m saving you from whatever it is.”
  “That’s just it…”
  “Hm? What is?”
“I want to stay here. I need to stay here. I have to protect the others.”
Macaque stared at his boyfriend wide eyed then brought a hand to his forehead and laughed. “Wow, for a second you really got me. Is this really the time for jokes?”
Wukong glared at him. “I’m not joking. I’m staying with them.”
“WHAT? Are you out of your mind? They forced you under a dang mountain then onto whatever this is! And now you want to stay?”
The monkey king sighed. “Look, I was angry especially after they put this crown thing to make sure I listen.” He gestured to the circlet. “But it’s not so bad. I have a responsibility to protect them now. I’ve accepted that. You could come with us!”
Was Wukong serious? They put that crown on his head to control him? How could he still want to stay after that? “What about our plan to take over Heaven? Don't you want revenge?”
“I did…” he shook his head. “Not anymore. I’ve changed. Come with us, Macaque! I’m sure master wouldn’t mind!”
Was his boyfriend being forced to say this? Macaque scowled, “That monk must have you under some spell, don’t worry, Peaches, I’ll get rid of that monk and the rest of them..”
At those words, the king held up his staff and against his boyfriend’s chest. He yelled “DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM!”
Macaque laughed and placed a hand on his face. “Is this some sick dream? Gods, wake me up when it’s over.”
  “This is no dream, Mango.”
  “Don’t you want revenge?”
“Revenge isn’t important to me anymore! I’ve grown. I don’t need you to rescue me! You mess with them, you mess with me.”
His boyfriend glared at him. “So you want to waste time following some human around?”
“Yes! Because I believe in our cause!”
“Do you realize how stupid that sounds?”
“Stupid to you but not to me! If you’re going to threaten my friends then this is goodbye, Mango.” Wukong lowered his staff and started walking away from his boyfriend. Macaque’s face being a face of disbelief and anger.
“DON’T WALK AWAY FROM ME, WUKONG! You always do this! You always do something selfish and leave me to pick the mess up! Just like when you got trapped under that mountain!” Macaque yelled and stomped his feet.
Wukong looked back at him. “Goodbye, Mango,” he repeated. “We’re through.” Then he left.
Macaque wanted to grab his boyfriend, scream at him to come back. He had remembered what he said to Wukong before he left, he had lost him, he had lost his boyfriend and it stung. He sobbed as he fell to his knees. He whispered, “Why can’t I get you out of my head?” The only other thought going through his mind was “revenge.” If Wukong thought this journey was fun then how fun would it be if Macaque impersonated him and ruined him? He would take the credit for his ex boyfriend’s journey and ruin him. That was a guarantee.

((Idk what to title this. DOTD stuff/Royal Blacksmith HC lore.
WARNING: this is long.))
Dareth ran the tablecloth up and down the counter, scrubbing out the spots that had ring stains to the beat of the song cracking from the radio. It was still too early in the evening to open up shop, but he didn't mind the wait. It gave him a lot of time to double check everything and re-count inventory. He flicked off the radio and on the TV, leaning on the counter to catch the news.
Nothing important was happening today, unless you counted traffic jams as a lethal city attack, and it was the perfect weather to hit the beach according to the news. No doubt Gayle was trying to find something to talk about, but, "Not a single story to get a scoop out of today, miss reporter," he spoke to the screen. Eyeing the window, he contemplated going out for an hour to catch some rays. Not that he needed it immediately, but he had notice that his tan was starting to fade as of late.
Knocking against the door pulled him from his thoughts. "We're not open yet, come back in three hours!" Dareth called, hoping his voice carried though the thick wood.
"Not a patron!" A prideful voice muffled back.
"Lou?" He stood up and answered the door. "Lou! Good to see ya, how have you been?"
"Well I've been just wonderful," he smiled and stepped inside, taking a seat at the bar while Dareth returned to his position, "I stopped by to talk to you about Day of the Departed plans."
"You know me, always room in my schedule for that. That's a few months away though, right?"
"Yes, but its always good to plan these things far in advance. Anyway, the other day when I was going through the archives, It hit me that I never let Cole experience how the Royal Blacksmiths formed."
Dareth lowered the TV volume, "Wait, I thought Cole didn't want to be a Blacksmith?"
"No, of course not! But its family history that I think he and his friends should know.. on top of a performance of course! That’s why I've come to you! We need the Jade Palace rented out." Lou beamed.
Bewilderment struck across his face, "Lou. You can't just rent out the Jade Palace- sure the city rebuilt it and turned it into a memorial.. museum.. actually I haven't been inside. But! Isn't that a little 'out there' in terms of.. you know.."
He laughed, "That’s why I came to you! You know how to make the impossible work out! And it's perfect too! 'The Royal Blacksmiths perform at the Jade Palace: a Historical Unraveling', I can see the headline now." He looked up, picturing the scenario in his mind.
Dareth folded his arms and thought about it. No doubt he'd have to talk to a rabbit hole of people just to pull it off, at least Lou came to him about it now rather than one week in advanced. "I'll see what I can do," he sighed.
"Haha, yes! I knew I could count on you!" He jumped up and headed towards the door, "I'll give you more details once I flesh them out. This is going to be so much fun!" The door shut in excitement.
---------
"You said your dad planned something?" Jay popped a few pieces of candy in his mouth, "something about the palace?"
"Yeah," he reached over and dug into the bag, grabbing out a taffy. "He said he had something special for the team- more importantly me, but he extended the invitation. He said something about Blacksmith history, I just hope he doesn’t drone on and on." Cole rolled his eyes.
"It sounds like you didn't have a very good experience with this in the past?"
He shrugged, "My dad was never a 'when I was your age' person, but he was a 'your great great whatever' person when it came to performing. I didn't like listening to it, so I never payed much attention."
The two climbed the front stairway just as people were departing. so much for making the show, but at least they weren’t absurdly late and didn’t leave Lou waiting half an hour. Kai and Nya looked away from the entry way and waved at the two, drawing the attention of Dareth was was hovering around the side walls. He whistled, Lou snapping away from the conversation of the quartet and smiling. “Cole! Jay! there you two are!”
“Hey dad-” the two hugged, “sorry we missed the performance. Crime never rests.”
“Yeah, luckily Pixal and Zane took over for us.” Jay chirped, “So, a story? Will it be in the form of a song?”
He laughed and rested a hand on Cole’s shoulder, leading the two up through the entrance. “No, no, I’m afraid not. The boys want to call it early tonight, so it’s going to just be me.” Lou nodded to the rest of his group, the three calling their goodnights and goodbyes. “So, you said two of you aren’t showing up, what about Lloyd?”
Jay and Cole exchanged glanced, then repeated the motion with Kai and Nya.Usually everyone would be here, but the S.O.G. no doubt made him rethink things in regards to his father. “I’ll keep a look out for him,” Dareth waved a hand and smirked, “I already got the low-down and I’ll get him up to speed. You guys enjoy the tour.”
--
The interior was much like it was before the destruction, though more antique fitted for the occasion, no doubt. Glass cases displayed attire and relics of an older time; worn armor stood tall on wooden racks, faded paintings hung beneath special lights, weapons held vertically reflected the gold trimmings surrounding them, and masks hung from the walls. Lou proudly walked past the displays to a dark lit wall, “As all of you know who the Royal Blacksmiths are, I won’t e going over that. Instead, I want to start from the very beginning.” He flicked on a light, illuminating the wall with a portrait through a lamp. “Before there were Blacksmiths, there were entertainers. This group of four traveled through Ninjago by foot, performing tricks no one had seen before! Their acts drew the attention of the Royal Family, who’s prince was delighted by their performances! So much so, that he invited them to perform at the palace.”
Cole tried not to sigh, feeling deja vu from this spiel. Taking a look around, it seemed like no one else was feeling the same. Whether that was for better or worse...
“Mr. Compère, You’re needed!” Lou jumped with the rest of the group, the masked man wrapped his arm around the Blacksmith, his attire making him look out of place, hailing from a lost time.
“M-Mr. Compère?” He sputtered.
“Yes, the King wants to see what we can do!” He was promptly pulled away, the person stopping to look back at the stunned Ninja. “You best be making your way to the stage if you don’t want to miss the performance.” He held up a finger to the lips of the mask, dispersing away into smoke.
Jay gawked, “Did you just SEE THAT?!”
“Who was that?” Kai asked, Cole pushing everyone aside.
“I dunno, but I don’t like the sound of what he has planned. Come on!”
Grand pillars held up the octagonal roof, the rafters danging dozens of lights of varying color, each held at a height that pointed down to the stage. The squad shoved open the doors, weapons brandished ready to fight when they were once again dumbstruck. On the far side the king sat, his green robes draping over his armored body. The Jade undertones in the trimming angled in a way that drew attention to his pale face, his dark eyes watching intently at the four masked men who stood in a circle with their backs on the inside. Among the four, one rose up an instrument: a lyre, intricately carved in ancient Ninjagian. The notes that escaped it echoed in the large room, the lights flickering as the air reacted to the music. The other three drew comically long blades, lifting them to the air and spinning around in a dance.
“The King and his son watched as their performance spelled out the story of a bard, One of which caught in plans that would prove to be quite fatal,” Lou’s voice spoke from the upper floor. As if on queue, one of the masked figured drove their sword into the other, shocking the royalty as the other two dropped to the floor dramatically. The bard only paused, returning to his playing once again. Another masked person stabbed their sword through, followed by the third, but the playing did not cease. This frightened the assailants, the person turning and gliding towards them, scaring them off stage. “It was such a grand display of endurance, that the King thought it would be foolish to simply send them away without compensation. Thus, he dubbed the ensemble, ‘The Royal Blacksmiths’, entertainers of the Royal Family.”
Cole lead the way around the lower balcony, the lights above blowing out suddenly before flickering back on. The stage had dramatically changed, one of that reflect a circus. The ringleader faced the four who had taken a seat next to the railing. Kai blinked, “Hey is that-”
“Ladies, and Gentlefolk, Tonight’s performance is none other than The Wondrous, Illustrious, Roooyaall Blacksmiths!” He brown cape flew as he lifted an arm to them, the curtains flying open as a large tiger leapt forward. One of the blacksmiths, wearing a black suit and white face paint with red accents, jogged across the ring, leading the large cat around the obstacles and through the tubes. From the other side, another Blacksmith ran out, performing flips through the same obstacle course and landing on a rolling board. A third leapt over the back curtain, landing in the hold of the rolling one who lifted them elegantly. The fourth emerged in a cloud of smoke, holding an arm out to the Ringleader who promptly through his hat and cane.
“Cole, That’s your dad!” Jay giddily squealed, pointing at the center circle.
“What?!”
Lou gently bowed, spinning the cane around and throwing it into the air, catching it and tossing it up again even higher. “No more was the need to act plays and stories, the people wanted to see something extraordinary, and so it was!” Lou shouted, barely turning around in time to see the tiger leap from the back curtains again.
“Dad look out-!” Cole leapt up from his seat, gripping the railing as the tiger fell into the hat and disappeared completely. Lou caught the cane and tossed it up again, winking at his son as he whipped the hat directly at him. It spun back around just out of reach and out of the light. The wheeling blacksmith sped up their circles, tossing the other into the air and catching the cane. The other landed next to Lou, striking a pose as the third slid out from the curtain on the other side. Lou kept his hands raised, marching in place as the cane was tossed up again. He grabbed it just as the last smith found his place behind the three, sparks exploding from the end of the cane like fireworks. The hat finally came back around which he promptly caught, lowering it to the ground and letting a small house cat step out of it.
“But it was so, that the life of excitement wasn’t something everyone could handle. Generations of building up elaborate stunts were daunting to the eyes of a junior, and so he chose a different approach,” Lou spoke as the quartet began humming various pitches. “He thought no one should bear to hear such noises that left ears ringing, Instead he came up with a new plan! One that involved singing!” He held the last word on a high note.
The tiger let out a low grumble, its purring distracting everyone to look at the side wall. “Oh nuts,” Dareth, the ringleader, smiled sheepishly, gently scratching the large cat under the chin.
Lou cleared his throat, “And so here we are now, carrying out the tradition to entertain no matter the form, display, or song. I hope you all enjoyed the performances, you especially, Cole.” He smiled up at his son.
Jay barged into the conversation, “That. Was. Awesome!”
“How did you pull it all off??” Nya asked, beaming.
“I would have never guessed that it was that deep,” Kai mirrored their excitement, “who knew?”
Cole leapt down from the balcony and approached his father, “You did all of this, just for me?”
“Of course, Cole, It’s family history!.. and I wanted to let you know that, not everyone in our historical line wanted to do what their fore-fathers did. I’m proud of you, that you’re a ninja, It gives me a lot to write and sing about!” He gripped Cole’s shoulder and laughed, pulling him into a half hug.
The other ninja had leapt down, asking the others as the group of performers congregated in the pit. It was a shame that Zane, Pixal, and Lloyd missed it, but Cole was sure that Kai had recorded at least part of it on his phone for his social media followers. The earth ninja eyed around at the general happiness, content with it, and leaned against his dad. “Happy Day of the Departed, dad.”
He squeezed him back, chuckling, “Happy Day of the departed.”

Hey, so I’m sure this is no surprise as my love for sokka knows no bounds! Can I request a fluff alphabet for him plz~
This took a long time to get to so thank you for your boundless patience! TT.TT Here’s your fluff alphabet for our lovely Sokka! :D
Fluff Alphabet- Sokka
Tumblr media
A-   Activities: How do they spend their time with their s/o?
Sokka doesn’t really care what they’re doing, as long as his s/o is there! Still, he won’t deny that his favorite pastime is just snuggling up to his s/o and hanging out. As much as he is a fun-loving guy, there’s just something so intimate and special about simply enjoying one another’s presences. Offer a night in, and this boy can’t turn it down!
B-    Body: What does this character appreciate about their s/o? What part of their body are they most proud of, and in reverse, what body part are they ashamed of and how do they respond to their s/o gushing over it?
Sokka will worship every inch of his s/o no question, but he’s got a particular affinity for his s/o’s hands. This boy just loves to hold hands; he’ll do so every chance he gets. He also likes to kiss all over the fingers, the tops of their hands, and their palms while whispering sweet nothings to his lover. One wouldn’t think it with how goofy he is, but Sokka can be very smooth when he wants to be.
Sokka’s pretty proud of his physique. He’s not a muscle-bound monster, but he’s toned and fit. He will definitely get a swelled ego when his s/o compliments his muscles, flexing proudly for them to encourage them to touch the hard-earned parts of his body. However, this can be a sore spot for Sokka, too. Sometimes he’s a little disgruntled that he’s leaner and more toned rather than some big strong brute. He’ll perk right up when his s/o starts showering him in praises and traveling the landscape of his body with appreciative touches. He’ll instantly fall back to that snarky, confident self! Nothing can keep this boy down for long.
C-    Cuddles: Is this character a cuddler? What is their favorite way to cuddle?
Sokka loves, loves, loves to cuddle! If he’s got his arms around his s/o, he’s a happy man! Sokka will cuddle all ways he can- spooning, having his s/o seated in his lap while he bear-hugs them from behind, having his s/o cling to them like a spider monkey while they sleep. He is so clingy and needy, but his s/o can rest assured that they will be showered in affection and love!
D-   Dreams: How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Sokka definitely dreams of a domestic life with his s/o! He loves the idea of getting married and settling down to have some children. They are his entire world, and accordingly, his future revolves around them.
E-    Equivalence: Is this character the dominant force in the relationship, are they passive, or is the relationship more or less even?
Sokka can be a bit overbearing and bull-headed, but in a relationship, he tries to maintain an equal responsibility. With someone who’s as confident and independent as he is, he sometimes might grow a little passive, because he honestly respects his partner for calling the shots. There is a lot of open communication and mutual respect.
F-    Fights: How does this character respond to arguments with their s/o? What would they fight about, and who would cave and apologize first?
Sokka can be a little arrogant and stubborn, so sometimes, this can lead to strain between Sokka and his s/o. Usually, fights involve around Sokka being a little protective of his s/o; he has faith in them, but he’d hate for them to be needlessly reckless. Fights are pretty standard, shouting back and forth, but Sokka would never throw things and would never lay a hand on his s/o. When it is clear to him that he can’t get through to his s/o, he’ll excuse himself to go take a walk and clear his head. He’ll come back cooled down and more willing to see his s/o’s point of view.
G-   Gratitude: How does this character show their s/o that they are grateful?
Handmade gifts, 100%. We all know Sokka has an interest in art, and so he is always surprising his s/o with hand-carved trinkets, beaded bracelets, and cute little drawings. Giving his s/o something that he crafted specifically for them is just his way of showing his deep love and appreciation for them.
H-   Honeymoon: If this character had a honeymoon with their s/o, where would they go?
Ember Island! Sokka heard all about it from Zuko and has wanted to take a trip there for a while. It’s nice and relaxing and romantic at first, but pretty soon word gets out and the Gaang crashes the honeymoon. He releases his frustrations by absolutely stomping everyone in a beach volleyball game.
I-      Insecurity: What is this character insecure about? How do they deal with their insecurities with their s/o?
Sokka sometimes worries that someone bigger and better will come along and steal his s/o out from under him. This makes him try to overcompensate sometimes, which can grate his s/o. It takes some occasional reassurance and sweet-talking to ease Sokka’s insecurities. He wants his s/o to be happy, but secretly he’s a little selfish and wants his s/o to be happy with him.
J-      Jealousy: Is this character the jealous type? How do they deal with being jealous?
Oh, yeah. Sokka gets jealous. If he and his s/o are out and his s/o is just so radiant that they catch someone else’s attention, he is going to be so sore about it. Sokka is grumpy and clingy when he’s jealous. He’ll be all over his s/o, hugging and kissing them and following them around like a lost puppy. It’s endearing, honestly. When his s/o gets a little annoyed with his clinginess, he’ll just bat his pretty eyes and croon about how much he loves them, and it’s kinda hard to be irritated with him when he’s just so dang adorable.
K-   Kiss: What does the character want their first kiss to be like with their s/o? How does it end up happening?
Sokka is totally the type to obsess over the “right” moment. He’ll plan it in meticulous detail, setting it up around a romantic date, but when the moment comes, he’ll get super flustered. He’ll blush bright red and just stare at his s/o’s mouth like it’s an unsolvable puzzle. Eventually, when questioned, he’ll bashfully admit that he wants to kiss them. He’s a lot smoother during the actual act; it’s a super sweet and exhilarating kiss!
L-    Love Confession: How does this character first profess their love to their s/o?
He’ll start off with a cheesy pick-up line, purely for comedic effect because at this point, he and his s/o have been dating a long time. He loves to make his s/o laugh, and it’ll throw his s/o off the scent of what he’s about to do next. He’ll grab their hands and look deep into their eyes, and then just tell them how he really feels. He’s not the most eloquent guy at moments like these, so he’ll fluster and stumble a bit, but he’ll get it out. It’s super sweet!
M-  Marriage: How does this character view marriage? What is their ideal wedding like?
Sokka totally wants to get married! He fantasizes about the day he’ll propose with a hand-carved necklace. Sokka would of course honor the wishes of his bride, but he can’t deny he dreams of a traditional Water Tribe wedding. He wouldn’t mind combining the traditions of his bride into the mix, too, if they happen to hail from somewhere else. Honestly, he just wants to seal his bond to his beloved, so as long as this guy can profess his undying love to his partner, he’s all for it.
N-   Nicknames: What does this character like to call their s/o?
Sokka hates gushy nicknames; hearing how his sister goes on and on with them drives him nuts. So, he’s pretty simple with the pet names- “babe” is usually his go-to, but when he’s feeling a little more in love, he’ll drop a “honey” or “baby.” When he’s in a teasing mood, he’ll call his s/o “sweetcheeks” or “babycakes” just to fluster them.
O-   On Cloud Nine: What is this character like when they’re in love? Is it obvious to others, or are they good at hiding it?
Oh, no. There’s no hiding when Sokka’s head-over-heels. He’ll be daydreaming about them 24/7, and his friends will constantly have to snap him out of it. He is totally spacey and clumsy when he’s in love because his s/o just dominates his mind, especially in the beginning.
P-    PDA: Does this character like PDA? If so, what kinds of things do they do in public to show off their s/o?
Sokka’s not to into PDA, because he just doesn’t like couples who are all over each other, but he does love to hold hands. Whenever he and his s/o are out somewhere, his hand it glued to theirs. It’s very rare for him to peck them on the cheek and even rarer to kiss them on the mouth, but it happens sometimes, when he’s in a good mood.
Q-   Quirks: What random traits or quirks does this character have that positively affect the relationship?
Sokka’s sense of humor definitely makes the relationship fun and interesting. He’ll randomly hit on his s/o with cheesy pick-up lines, no matter how long they’ve been dating. When his s/o is angry with him or sad, he’ll start cracking totally corny jokes until they smile.
R-    Romance: Is this character a hopeless romantic, or a bit on the low-key side? Are they cliché when it comes to romantic gestures, or can they get a little bit creative?
Sokka is totally a hopeless romantic. He won’t admit it aloud, ever, but he loves being in love and doting on his s/o. Sokka is very imaginative, so most of his gestures are personal and creative. Of course, he knows the importance of tried-and-true methods, so sometimes he’ll surprise his s/o with something classic like jewelry or flowers.
S-    Secrets: Are there any secrets they hide from their s/o? If so, how do they deal with it when those secrets finally come out?
Sokka doesn’t have any secrets per se, but he does find it hard to talk about the death of his mother. It’s something that haunts him. Eventually, his s/o can coax it out of him and talk him through his trauma. He’ll feel much better with his s/o reassuring his feelings.
T-    Thrill: Does this character prefer routine in their relationship, or do they like to shake things up every once in a while?
Sokka’s kind of a meticulous guy, so he prefers routine in the relationship. However, he knows that spontaneity is important to keep the fun alive, so he’ll plan impromptu outings and fun little dates.
U-   Understanding: Is this character level-headed and empathetic toward their partner, or do they sometimes have trouble figuring them out, which leads to some butting heads?
Sokka is usually very in tune with his partner and knows how they work. Every once in a while, his s/o will do or say something that causes them to butt heads. It’s usually something that triggers Sokka’s protective nature. But, for the most part, dating Sokka is pretty smooth sailing.
V-   Value: How does this character value their relationship with their s/o? How does it hold in comparison to their goals, ambitions, etc.?
At first, Sokka’s own personal ambitions outweigh his relationship. However, after some time, his goals become intertwined with his s/o. He wants to achieve them to make them proud. At that point, his relationship is his pride, joy, and motivation.
W-  Wild Card: Any random fluff headcanon that does not fall within the other categories!
Sokka writes poems for his s/o. They’re usually silly things to make them laugh; he’ll leave them places for them to find and just make their day.
X-   XOXO: How does this character show affection?
Physical touch and gifts, 100%. When they are alone, Sokka is clinging to his s/o like a koala bear, getting as much skin-to-skin contact as he can. He just loves the clingy intimacy! As I mentioned before, he loves to make stuff for his s/o. It’s his chief way of displaying affection, because he’s not one for honeyed words or eloquent sweet nothings.
Y-   Yearning: How does this character deal with time apart with their s/o?
Mopey. Mopeyyyy. Makes everyone around him miserably because he is a whiny mopey baby. He hates any prolonged time apart from his s/o. At first, he’s pretty good at hiding it and will go off to sulk by himself, but after too long, he craves attention and will start flopping around and whining to anyone who’ll listen. As soon as his s/o is back, he’s attaching himself to them like a leech, PDA be damned.
Z-    Zeal: Is this character willing to great lengths for their relationship? If so, how far, and how long does it take to get to this point?
Sokka will literally throw hands with an entire army for his s/o after about a good six months of dating. Anyone hurts his s/o and he is a man on a mission to wipe out anything and everything that made them cry. His s/o is the world to him.

Shattered Glass old mirror chapter 2!
Warnings: uhhh trauma basically and time distortion
Enjoy!
-------------
You woke up, not immediately recognizing where you were. Slowly the memories came back to you as you got up.
Waking up in the mirror, being found by the Jims, convincing them to take you with them, the giant dog, Wilford, Dark, the mirror……
You sighed and looked at your hand. It still hurt from yesterday. You unwrapped the bandage a little and saw that the bleeding had stopped at least.
To unwrap it and pretend it's just a part of the collection or keep it and not potentially get an infection…….they wouldn't notice right?
You rewrapped the bandage as someone knocked on your door
"MirrorJim! Time for breakfast!"
Oh, the Jims! You smiled, going to answer the door
"Thanks Jim! Let's go!"
The three of you started walking down the hallway
"Hey MirrorJim, is your hand ok?"
Oh of course
"Oh that? Just some battle scars! I got into a fist fight with a mirror!"
"What did the Mirror do Jim?"
"It called me names and insulted my friends. It held no honor"
"Didya win?"
"Of course! No mirror can hold it's ground against me!!!"
The Jims looked at you in awe, CameraJim going to point his camera at you
"And here we have the infamous Mirror fighter! Tell us MirrorJim, what was it like?!"
You stood up straighter, a confident smirk on your face
"Quick and painful on both sides! But nothing i couldn't handle!"
You laughed at the Jim's faces as all three of you walked into the kitchen and sat down.
At the table the host, Bim, Google, and Dr.Iplier were already there. In the kitchen  Chefiplier and yet another Googleplier were working on breakfast.
As you and the others waited, idle chatter came up.
"So how's your first night here, Y/N?"
"You know it actually went pretty well! I didn't even have a nightmare!"
"Heh, you sure? Your hand says otherwise."
"Oh, right. Speaking of which, Doc, think you can…?"
Dr.Iplier sighed as he playfully rolled his eyes, reaching out for your hand. You gave it to him and he looked over the damage.
"What happened"
CameraJim piped up
"They fought against a mirror and won!"
"A MIRROR? *sighs* well it's not the craziest thing I've seen before. Just try not to make things any worse and you'll be fine"
The Doctor rewrapped the bandage before letting you have your hand back
"Thanks doc!"
At that moment Dark walked into the room, more or less being dragged by Wilford as they sat down. You haven't spoken to dark since last night. This is bound to get awkward.
Luckily for you food started leaving the kitchen as soon as the rest of the Iplier egos showed up. Things were relatively calm as you soon forgot the tension between you and dark, joining in on the pleasant conversation.
And then everything started spiraling downhill from there.
You heard the sound of a car driving up to the manor as you finished your breakfast. Curious, you walked up to the window.
Only to curse yourself internally.
It was Mark. Like the Actor. Actor Mark! He's probably here for you!
You're Dumb, not stupid. You know this probably isn't your body, the scratches on your hands and that memory from last night is enough proof of that. But if the others are aware that you're not them, this could be your end.
It would be your end if Mark got to you as well. You're not about to let yourself get caught in one of those forever looping adventures of his.
Think Y/N where's the safest place to be if you're spotted by the mad man himself or not? That would probably be with his rival….
And you're in a weird situation with said rival.
You winced, not noticing Dark had walked over to see what you were staring at until he spoke up
"What the hell is HE doing here?"
You nearly lept out of your skin! You sighed, trying to calm down from the mini heartattack.
"I don't know. But you're going to find out anyway aren't you?"
Dark nodded before walking off.
Dang it you forgot their rivalry was the fighting kind. Guess you're sticking with someone else then.
"Wonder where he's going? Y/N! Want to follow him?"
Hello replacement Damien! You turned to Wilford
"Sure! We can be the sneakiest ninjas of all time! Jims! Wanna join us?"
"OOO! Good idea!! We gotta get our first sneaking mission all on video!!"
"Camera's already rolling MirrorJim!"
What can go wrong?
---------
Everything. Everything could go wrong.
First of all, this group is neither sneaky nor…..ugh dang it what's the word??? You're obvious, is what I'm trying to say! You're 1000% sure Dark has known since the second hallway that you were all following him.
It wasn't long before Dark found Mark roaming the halls. The confrontation started off rocky and with a lot of anger on Dark's side. Mark was nothing if not cool with a touch of nervousness.
A facade, you're sure. You watched the confrontation with growing anxiety. This could end in an all out brawl.
And then a glint off of something caught your eye
"Mark……"
Wilford had taken out his gun, your body freezing in place. Shit, you forgot. Mark and the Colonel didn't exactly get along well either!.......
WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE??
you can't-oh no…..panic attack...like back at the mirror. Seriously. An episode?? HERE???? Worst possible place for this!! You're 15ft away from a mad man and 3 feet away from the gun that shot you!
You were starting to panic, your anxiety and paranoia skyrocketing through the roof. And then you heard it
"Y/N? Y/N!"
"Don't you DARE-ACK!"
Mark shoved Dark away before heading over to you. Next thing you knew, you heard a gunshot and you were running down the hall.
This is too much…..too much all too soon. You couldn't hear anything but your own breathing as you ran through twists and turns of the manor. Where where you going? Who were you trying to go to? You don't know anymore! The only people who you knew was safe were back there with that guy!
You soon slowed to a stop, tired as all hell. You panted for breath as you stopped to look around.
Is it…..snowing? Wait, you've seen this before. The final episode of wkm! Before the Colonel found out Abe was hired to spy on him!
Did you do this?
""Did you do this?" Y/N asked themselves as the host drew near, the red Google Android at his side"
"Host? Google?"
"The host figured Y/N would like a quiet place to relax and have their questions answered. Follow me"
The host continued to mumble to himself as you caught up to the two of them. You decided to ask the obvious of what's happening here
"What is this?"
"It's an area spell I assume. It slows down time to an extent that even I'm not sure of"
"How come you're not effected? Did you do this?"
The host laughed
"Afraid not. If I could do this I would've used this ability a long time ago. And to answer your first question, I can only assume it's because you consider us friendly"
"Wait me? I'm really the one doing this??"
"If you weren't then I'd question who would be."
You nodded slowly. Made sense. You all stopped at the Host's office
"The Host is going to go defuse the situation and calm down the ruffians. The Googleplier will assist you with any questions you have."
You nodded and watched the host leave before looking up to the bot, who walked inside the office. You followed behind and found a couch. You sighed, putting your face in your hands as you sat down
You felt the bot sit down nearby and you took in a breath before sitting up
"Ok Google"
You heard a beep
"Quiz me on common knowledge"
"Ok"
--------
The gun had fired, Wilford standing on his two feet now. Mark had quickly dodged out of the way and went to try and hide when the Jims started screaming
"WHERE DID MIRRORJIM GO?!"
"MIRRORJIM DISAPPEARED!!!!"
Dark: "WHAT?!"
Dark immediately grabbed Mark by the neck, lifting him up in the air
Dark: "WHAT DID YOU DO YOU SLIMEY-"
Host: "Mark did not do anything."
The Host walked into the room
Wilford: "Host….I should've known"
The host nodded towards Wil
Host: "Y/N had ran away at the sound of the firing gun. They are currently at my office, being caught up with current events"
Mark wrangled himself free from Dark's grip
Mark: "that's great! I'll go keep them-"
Host: "The Host suggests you do not corner Y/N less you want to meet a very gruesome death"
The host warned. Mark gave the Host a very disbelieving and confused look as Dark and Wil raised an eyebrow
Mark: "Y/N? The harmless Y/N that couldn't harm a FLY? Are you SURE you're not losing it Host?"
The host chuckled to himself
Host: "you shall see in time. They are not the same Y/N you once knew a century ago."
The host started walking away.
Host: oh also the dog's are fighting.
That got the ego's attention as they immediately ran outside.
Host: "The host chuckled to himself, knowing full well Diva was no where near Chica"
----------
You sighed. Nothing much had changed in accordance to most things in your past life. But when you asked about certain artists, you found that several important ones or even special songs were just flat out gone as if they didn't exist.
If that wasn't bad enough you realized that that means you're the only one that knows these songs and it's up to you to not forget them. Yaayyyyyy more stress.
You ran your hands through your hair. You suppose you'll be fine. You could be fine. You WILL be fine. You could get used to this just like everything else you've dissociated from.
"Your body language suggests distress"
"Yeah, well. I'm under a lot of it…...can I tell you something if you promise not to tell Dark or Wil?"
The Google raised an eyebrow
"Noted?"
You sighed again, leaning into the couch

Ever since Yuta moved to Seoul, he would always wait for Doyoung before they go to the office together. Simply because one, Yuta is an early riser and two, they lived in the same building.
Doyoung helped Yuta a lot with his move, which includes finding the best place for Yuta to stay for at least the next three years. Surprisingly, among all of the options that Doyoung has offered, Yuta fell in love with the apartment that was none other than Doyoung’s building.
“Are you sure about this?”
Yuta nods. “I like to keep my place with greeneries. This one faces the east, so I’ll get plenty of sunlight.”
Doyoung rested his hand on his hip, hummed in agreement. “If you say so. The view from here is really pretty, that for sure.”
Yuta and Doyoung friendship are odd. They’re not exactly the closest friends –since they started as colleagues. While Yuta worked with other people aside from Doyoung in the company, he felt most comfortable around him. It’s just the charming point of Doyoung, since he always took care of people around him. Furthermore, Yuta did have a thing with his best friend, resulting in them sharing a fairly good amount of time outside of work, thus making them closer naturally. Though, it’s not like they suddenly could claim as to each other’s partner in crime.
Today was like any other days. Yuta would wait in the smoking area near the parking lot. Yuta usually doesn't smoke in the morning –he said he likes to keep his lungs fresh when he starts his day– but everything changed a year ago. He doesn't really mind though, ever since he converted to IQOS.
“Morning, I hope you’re– whoa!”
Doyoung, who was still half-awake, is now on full alert when he sees Yuta.
“Dude, what a haircut!” He exclaims. “I thought your long hair would fit you best. Pretty jealous with a guy who’s able to tie their hair and still managed to look good, but dang those undercut looks good on you.”
Yuta smiled. “Thanks, bro.” He draws a smoke. “Thought it was a nice change. A new beginning, I guess? Like how someone told me.”
“A new beginning huh?” Doyoung shoved his hand to his pants pockets. “Well, speaking of…”
Yuta hummed at Doyoung, tilting his head because Doyoung is hesitating.
“Nevermind, I’ll talk to you over coffee.”
“Wow, such a joy killer.” Yuta quickly removes the white stick from its cartridge. “Well, let’s go then. I can’t handle cliffhangers.”
“Here,” Doyoung passes Yuta’s usual americano while holding his own matcha latte.
“Sankyuu,” Yuta thanked him, purposefully using his Japanese accent. “So, care to continue where you left?”
Yuta could sense that Doyoung stopped sipping his straw. But Doyoung realized that he’s dealing with Yuta here and his best trait is his directness. Though he’s a bit taken aback, Doyoung already expected Yuta to go back straight to the topic.
“Well, the thing is,” He pulled the chair, sitting across Yuta. “[Y/N] asked me if she could meet you.”
“[Y/N]?” Yuta’s eyes widen. Amongst all of the people, her name was the least that he would expect to want to meet him. “Meeting me? Is there anything wrong?”
“There’s nothing wrong, but…” Doyoung pursing his lips, noticeably nervous. “Damn it, [Y/N], why do you have to do this to me?” He mumbles.
“Bro seriously, just go straight to the point.” Yuta gives his cup a few twirls before sipping it. “I won’t be offended if that is what you’re worried about.”
Yuta can see how Doyoung’s adam’s apple moves up and down. “She asked me whether she and Jaehyun could meet you to give you their wedding invitation.”
Immediately Yuta halted all of his movements. He has sworn to himself that he tries to move on. At this point he is even convinced that he already does. He never thought Doyoung’s last statement would cause that much pain.
Yuta remains silent, exactly how Doyoung expects him to be. “She did it out of good intentions, Yuta. I mean, I was around when you guys were together and I know it sucks to come to your ex’s wedding, but–”
“We never dated.” Yuta cuts him off.
“Well, whatever you called your relationship back then. At least from my eyes, you guys were happy and regardless of the ending, you did help her out of her slump. And she’s very grateful for that. If it weren’t for you, she probably wouldn't be able to be her complete self again, let alone to be together with Jaehyun.”
“Nonsense.”
Doyoung sighs. “You are special to her, Yuta. That wouldn’t change, no matter how bitter you take this news. If you’re uncomfortable I can come with you or I can ask [Y/N] to come by herself. Or would you rather to have her pass the invitation to me so–”
“Fine,” Yuta finally looks Doyoung in the eyes. “But I’m not comfortable meeting her… fiancé yet, so it would probably be best if I could meet her alone.”
A gum smile appeared on Doyoung’s face. “Sure, I’ll make sure to tell [Y/N].”
He finally rested his back on his chair. “Thank you for not making this difficult, bro.”
Yuta raised one of his brows, “Who said so? You’re paying for my coffee, right?”
Doyoung’s eyes grow bigger in disagreement.
Thank God Yuta managed to swallow his last piece of canelé —else he would choke after seeing her presence.
She came alone, just as Doyoung had promised. Yuta noticed she kept her hair length just the same. Nothing has really changed about her, except that she looks visibly more radiant.
She quickly spotted Yuta, and immediately pulled the chair in front of him.
“Hi,” She said as she took her seat. “Have you been waiting long?”
“No, not really.”
“Yet you just finished a canelé?”
“You know I’m a fast eater.”
She giggles. “Yes, I remember.”
Ah, her giggles.
Yuta could listen to this the whole day. It’s a strange feeling for him. As much as he loves her laughter, he hated the fact that he’s such a simple man –because he wishes he could listen to her laugh nonstop. That he could be the one that makes her laugh.
“Uhm, so…” Her relaxed demeanor changed into a slightly more skittish posture. “I guess if you agree to be here, it means you know the reason why I want to meet you.”
Yuta parted his lips from his cup. “You could’ve just text or call me by yourself, you know? Our Doyoung looked like a poor rabbit that got trapped.”
He glad he mentioned Doyoung, as it manages to put a smile on her face. “Right, you are a scorpio, to begin with.”
Yuta rested his chin on his hand, unconsciously smiling. He never believes in astrologies, but it’s funny how whenever she mentioned his sign, he would reactively feel giddy as it is the first thing that she knew about him —other than his name and his nationality, of course.
“Well,” She went through her purse. “I was hoping you could come to our wedding.”
Then when the smile gradually fades.
You expected this.
Yuta said that repeatedly in his mind. Yet the pain that he feels on his chest doesn’t seem to subdue.
She’s marrying a Jeong. One of the most desirable bachelors in Seoul. Not only women are fawning over his look, but Jeong Jaehyun is a brilliant, wealthy man. At a young age and to be able to manage Seoul’s biggest corporate, it’s a no brainer that women fly around Jaehyun like he’s a flame to a moth.
Yuta expected the invitation to be grander, but instead, it was stunningly simple. The rose-embossed envelope was dominated with cream tones, and the only noticeable color was the muted rose gold wax seal on the envelope with their initials. Another simple detail that makes the invitation look even more beautiful was the addition of dried flowers in between the stamp and the envelope.
“It’s beautiful,” He flips the envelope to reveal a calligraphy text that reads Nakamoto Yuta. “You’re a creative director indeed, huh.”
She pinches his hand at his jokes, to which Yuta quickly replies with repeated ouches.
“Can I open this?”
She nods, and Yuta carefully opens the envelope to reveal a tea-dyed paper that has floral-details embossed on the corner.
Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.
And the two shall become one.
[Y/N] and Jaehyun invite you to celebrate their love and wedding.
Yuta remains silent as he continues to read the date and the venue, before finally speaking up.
“Dinner, dance, and drinks to follow, huh?”
She held her breath, clearly unable to predict Yuta’s reaction. “Specifically champagnes. Though, I’m pretty sure Johnny’s going to smuggle some whiskey —don’t ask me how.”
The memory of her, sitting next to him while going on a date seems as clear as a day for Yuta. He remembered how the tip of her ears turned red when he held her hands, receiving her smile at the end.
But she never shines as bright as she is right now. The way the stardust on her eyes sparkled when she talked about her wedding.
As painful as it is for Yuta to let her go, it would be even hurtful if he were to steal that happiness away from her.
“I’ll come.” He puts the invitation back to its envelope.
“You will?!” She shrieked, unable to contain her excitement.
“Whoa, calm down soon-to-be bride.”
“Well, I didn’t expect you would… give me an answer this fast.”
“What? Do you expect me to be an asshole? You know I’m a pretty decisive person.”
“I’m aware on how… awkward this situation is. So I expected a lot worse.”
Yuta scoffed at her remarks, cuts her off before she could continue, “Congratulations, [Y/N]. I’m happy for you.”
Yuta saw how his statement caught her off guard, but her eyes slowly softened gradually. “Thank you Yuta. Really, I’m grateful that it was you.”
Yuta did not ask her to further explain her sentence.
“I’m glad it works out in the end.”
“Ah, thank you.”
Yuta exited from the back seat of his Uber when the valet opened the car door for him. Although Yuta already owns a car in Seoul, he had a hunch that he’s going to drink a lot today and as a responsible adult, he decided to skip driving.
The wedding venue stretches out to the lobby –and Yuta can already tell that the scale of the wedding is quite grand. The hallway was filled with the wedding decorations, in which the couple tries to keep the ethereal theme intact. A large acrylic box filled with green leaves fillers and giant white orchid greets the guest. On that box Yuta could spot gold letterings that spelled Welcome to the Wedding of [Y/N] and Jaehyun on its full glory.
The more steps Yuta takes to walk to the main venue, the more magnificent the decoration is. Toffee-colored roses bloomed beautifully on the hallway, looking marvelous with the giant pampas in between. Yuta gave small nods in approval after looking at the decor –impressed with the florist who worked on this.
Of course, he could see the pictorial pre-wedding photos of the couple. It seems like there are multiple themes for their pre-wedding shoots –from an editorial-like studio photoshoot to something that goes above and beyond like a shoot in the middle of the desert. Who knows how they were able to pull these off, but knowing the person she’s marrying, the answer doesn’t seem so far off.
However, the very photoshoot that made Yuta stop his step was the simplest theme; both of them laughing in the kitchen. Obviously Yuta is aware that there were probably crews behind the scene, asking them to pretend that they’re cooking –or in this case, playing with their food. But for someone who spent a good amount of time loving this very person, he knows best that the smile on her face is genuine. And the way they hug each other was so full of love.
He bitterly smiled, steps getting heavier as he knows the more he entered, the more pain it is going to be for him.
Why did I say yes?
He didn’t rethink much about his own question when he finally arrived at the main venue. The weather was clear as if nature is giving their blessing to the happy couple. The outdoor wedding was breathtaking, especially on the main wedding arch. The venue itself is already spectacular on its own –beautifully nestled on the bank of the river. Another charming point is the fact that the traditional Korean architecture married very well with the skyscrapers across the river. Additionally, it was even more impressive because the guests are able to soak in the spellbinding view of the sunset.
“Good afternoon, sir.” The wedding organizer greets him. “Are you a part of the bride’s or the groom’s guest?”
“The bride.”
She gave him a warm smile as she received the invitation, confirming his reservation. “OK, please take a seat on the left side. It shouldn’t take long before the ceremony started.”
It was an intimate wedding. Though they were a pair of lovebirds before, it was not enough for Yuta to know every single person on her circle. At least, he was unable to find any familiar face. So Yuta assumed people like Doyoung, Hanbyul, and Mingyu are taking the role of bridesmaid and groomsmen.
He took a glance at the groom’s side, where he spotted Donghyuck who’s glued to his phone. Yuta also notices the people from the last party, was it Sicheng and Taeil? He then saw how Taeyong quickly found his seat, and before long the ceremony was starting.
The officiant leads Jaehyun to wait at the altar from the side. Afterwards, Mark made his entrance, as Jaehyun’s only relative. The groomsmen quickly follow after, including Johnny who’s his best man, escorted the bridesmaids down the aisle.
When the flower girl disperses the roses petals and the ring bearer enters, Yuta is unable to focus on anything but the person who is walking right behind them.
She was breathtakingly beautiful.
Her choice of the wedding gown was the classic white off-shoulder silhouette dress. But the Óscar De La Renta gown is anything but mediocre. The floor-length tulle gown was embroidered with organza threaded flowers, and the veil that she wore that was made out of delicate chantilly lace. When he thought the dress couldn’t impress him further, the custom made veil was dazzled with meticulously embroidered rhinestone embellishments.
As the bride makes her entrance, Jaehyun starts to hold his hand together tighter. It is almost too visible for the audience to see how red his hands are. Jaehyun is a man who rarely wears his emotions on his sleeve, but seeing the love of his life walking down the aisle is enough for him to take off his mask. The thought of making her officially his wife causes him to well up.
All eyes were on her, but Yuta was especially unable to stray his eyes away. The way she walks gently to meet her groom at the other end of the aisle, but at the same time holding her bouquet that is dominated with muted blush orchids that are complimented with white roses nervously.
Yuta is able to catch all of that. However the thing that keeps Yuta’s eyes fixed on her is how even with the sheer veil that covers her face, he could still see how incredibly happy she is.
And the one that is able to put on that radiant smile is no other than Jaehyun.
She finally reached where her future husband is. She faces Jaehyun, and he takes a step forward to lift up her veil. Almost instantly, a single stream falls from Jaehyun’s eyes. She was beyond beautiful in his eyes. And although he was crying, he couldn’t help but to grin widely, exposing both of his dimples.
The sweet scene gained collective awes from the audiences. But Yuta took a deep breath instead so that he won’t stop collecting himself. Preventing him to do something that he would regret in future.
“Dear our lovely guests,” The officiant opens the event. “We are gathered here to celebrate love, the unison of our happy couple, [Y/N] and Jaehyun who are about to become Mr. and Mrs. Jeong.”
He proceeds by addressing the couple, and then comes the time where they exchange their vows.
“[Y/N],” Jaehyun opens up his cue card. “You are, without a doubt, my unconditional love.”
Contradicting the smile that she put on her face, her eyes started to tear up. Jaehyun took another deep breath before he continued.
“Today, I love you completely, as I did yesterday and yes, definitely for another seventy years, and even more. I promise I will provide a safe haven for our family, like what you provided to me. I promise to build a home that is filled with joy, learning, and compassion. There’s no need for you to look for me because I will be there for you, always. I will share your dreams, your joys, and I will be the place of comfort in your sorrows. I promise that you are my once in a lifetime love, because I will always find you in every love song, even in deafening weather, on the smallest things, and my dream is still, and will always be you.”
She wished she could hug the person in front of him after he reached the end of his vow, but she was busy tapping the tissue gently so that the tears won’t ruin her hours-long makeup. The officiant gave her a nod, allowing her to proceed with her vow.
“Jaehyun,”
There’s a crack in her voice, telling the audience that she’s mustering all of her strength to keep herself calm and collected.
“My everything, I give myself today to you to be your wife. I vow to share the rest of my life with you. To speak nothing but the truth to you in love. I promise that I will never give up on you, to respect you as to how you respected me. Building a home together with you seems like a dream, but my dream, too, is always you. Whether it’s through health, or illness, or when all of our hair turns grey and we get all wrinkly –at the end of my life, even when it has passed seventy years, I hope the person staying next to me is you.”
At her vow, Jaehyun repeatedly uses his thumb and index finger to wipe his own tears. He pressed his lips together, and even from far away it is visible that he was doing his best to hold his tears. Crying not out of sadness, but under immeasurable happiness.
After they exchange their rings, the couple look at each other once more. Completely on their own space. Speaking in a language that no other person in the audience could understand, before the officiant pulls them back.
“You may now have your first kiss!”
At the sign, Jaeyun pulls her to his embrace and gently kisses his now-wife. As if they’ve dreamed of this moment to live, they closed their eyes to soak in all the raw emotions they’ve felt for each other. They only realize that the time didn’t stop when the audiences are cheering for the happy couple.
And that is all Yuta needs to confirm his feelings.
Like everything that he’s been holding on, burst open like a bubble. There were no longer lingering feelings. No longer sign of remorse. Everything just made sense. So while people who sat nearby clapped and cheered, Yuta quietly wiped his own tears.
The scenery of the brilliant sunset is quickly replaced by the dim lights from the string lights that drape above the venue. While they provided tables for the guest to eat, all of them are currently holding drinks while enjoying the dance floor.
Yuta, on the other hand, decided to step away from the crowd. Distancing himself so that he can have a moment of peace for a second, but just enough for him to see how the happy couple shares their happiness with their friends and family.
“Enjoying the night breeze, sir?”
Yuta was not expecting someone to come see him. After all, the crowd that is acquainted with him is quite minimal in this party.
“Ah, you are–”
“Oh, how rude of me,” She uses her free hand to cover her mouth, before offering it to Yuta. “Hi, I’m __.”
“Yes, the florist. Are you the groom’s guest?” Yuta assumed since Mark is working for her.
She quickly shook her head. “Actually I’m here because I’m in charge of the floral decoration.”
Yuta’s eyes widened. “You did all of these? They’re amazing!”
She smiles shyly. “I’m glad all of the efforts didn’t go in vain. At least, I’m glad to know that you like it.”
“The couple is impressed, too, I bet.”
She nods her head. Yuta took another sip of his champagne before prolonging the pregnant pause.
“Are you OK?”
Yuta cocked his head, asking her to elaborate her question.
“I didn’t mean to pry, but I saw the way you look at them during the ceremony and… you cried.”
Oh?
He didn’t think that anybody would notice. Yuta does not have that much significance as part of the guest. He is not Johnny, being the groom’s best friend, nor Doyoung. He is simply the bride’s ex-lover, and they invited him probably out of guilt and a way of saying their gratitude.
He also didn’t expect a woman would be as equally direct as him while keeping her eloquent speech.
“Well,” He twirls his glass of champagne. “Are you free? Or do you have any other responsibilities after this?”
“Oh, usually I leave after I finish. Usually the W.O. would have their own cleaning team, and I leave the couple to decide what they would do with the flowers. Mark insisted me to enjoy the party, but it’s quite difficult to enjoy the party if I don’t know anyone. You’re a regular in our shop, so out of hope that I have sheer luck, you don’t mind that I approached you first.”
A coy smile appears on Yuta’s face. “Actually,”
He then took a glance at where the main event was. Looking directly on how Johnny forces Jaehyun to drink directly from the bottle, and the way his legs sways left and right before he falls to his wife’s arm. A happy, but drunk chap.
“I happen to know one of the groomsmen. They clearly oversupply their alcohol, let me steal a bottle or two. Would you care to accompany me for a drink?”
Yuta saw how bewildered she is, and unconsciously laughed at her expression. “I guess the tie is not for me, it suffocating. Also, you don’t need to worry about me being drunk-driving, I can also ask an Uber from the groomsmen.”
Yuta could see she nervously looking sideways, probably not sure how to react to Yuta’s invitation.
“There’s no hidden agenda, really. Odd, isn’t it? You are a stranger, yet I feel the most comfortable talking to you. Probably because you are a stranger, I got nothing to lose by telling you anything. You don’t have any prior judgment about me anyway.”
She remained silent, eyes still fixed on Yuta. Silence consumed them, and the only sound that could be heard was the distant laughters from the dance floor.
“Well, I’m not forcing you or anything.” Yuta decided to break the silence away. “But I thought of drinking my woe away, and it would be a pretty sad scene, don’t you think? To drink alone on such a happy day?”
She finally lets down her guard, smiling at him. “My car is not fancy, but I can definitely drive well.”

Dreams Can Come True: Chapter 2 New Home
Chapter 1-Chapter 3
Tumblr media
After Y/n’s shift at the daycare was over, she quickly made her way home and changed into more presentable clothes for her ‘interview’. She made her way out of her home wearing shiny black heels, a form fitting black pencil skirt and a loose, comfy white blouse. Y/n made her way into the café and immediately spotted her friend from this morning.
She walked over, “Hi Kurono, I hope I didn’t take too long, I wanted to look presentable for meeting your boss!” Chrono took a moment to look at Y/n, and she looked good. If not for his keen control on his emotions he was sure his face would have gone red, but he kept his composure and simply nodded. “I’m sure he’ll appreciate it. The man lives in button ups and slacks, so I’m sure you’ll make a good first impression.” Y/n then took a moment to notice what Chrono was wearing, he too, had changed into something nicer. He was now wearing a white button up and dark wash, not skinny but not super loose fitting, jeans. Dang, the man cleans up nicely. Unfortunately for our little Y/n here, she doesn’t have the same control over her emotions as the stone cold gangster, so her cheeks may have flushed a *little* pink. Chrono noticed her change in appearance and inwardly flushed at the thought of her blushing at him. Being 20 he knew he was in his ‘prime’ or whatever, and most people would have expected him to have a girlfriend by now, but dating wasn’t exactly easy in his position. Sure, he had a few girlfriends before, but they either just got in the way, only dated him to get close to Kai, or in the most unfortunate cases, weren’t exactly faithful. He just didn’t really see the point in dating if he was just going to get hurt in the end, or have to hurt someone in the end, I mean he may be a ‘heartless’ mafia but he does have one. There was also the fact he had a six year old to take care of, and in all aspects of his life, she was his priority. He had always wanted kids, and a wife. But if he could have at least one of those things, he couldn’t complain, right? He snapped out of it, and led Y/n back to the private room his boss had gotten for the night seeing as the Hassaikai had special ties with the owner. As she walked in the room, she noticed a young, fairly tall and built young man sitting down at the head of the table. Chrono led her to her seat at the opposite end, and took his seat to the right of his boss. To Overhaul’s left was another young man. Y/n polite fully bowed her head and introduced herself. “Hello sir, I’m Y/n L/n.” He nodded his head in acknowledgement and motioned for her to take a seat. It was now she paid attention to what the others were wearing. The man at the head of the table was wearing a black button down shirt with black pants and a white-gray tie. The man beside him dressed in all black, wearing a cape like top and a black bowler’s hat. Most peculiarly about the two however…is that they were wearing plague masks. While the one dressed solely in black wore one that covered his whole face, the one seated at the head of the table wore a burgundy and gold mask that covered only half of his face. Wait a minute…You knew who these people were. “Good evening Ms. L/n. I’m sure by now you’ve figured out who we are, yes?” “I have an idea..” Y/n then noticed Chrono had slipped on  white medical mask. “You’re probably wondering what the Shie Hassaikai wants with a daycare worker, Hm?” You simply nodded your head. “I don’t know how much Chronostasis has told you, but we are in need of female caretaker for the little girl you met today. We’re offering you a spot as not only her caretaker, but as a respected member of the Shie Hassaikai. Join us, and I assure you, you will be taken care of.” Y/n took a moment to think about it.
~Chrono POV/ Narrator POV~
I really do hope she says yes, having her around would make taking care of Eri a lot easier, ad it’d be nice to have her around. “Okay, I’ll do it” Yes! “But…” But…? “I don’t want to kill anyone. It’s true I’m not the biggest fan of heroes, but I’m not exactly pro villain either, I just want to take care of Eri, if that’s okay.” Seems fair to me. I didn’t really want her to have to kill either, a girl as pretty and nice as herself shouldn’t have to go through that….wait what the heck am I thinking?! “Those terms are acceptable, welcome to the Shie Hassaikai, L/n. Now, if you don’t mind, we’d like to ask you some more…personal questions.” Oh boy, here we go again, I already know what he’s going to ask, 1. What’s your quirk. “Tell me, what is your quirk?” Knew it. “Telekinesis, I can control small objects and bring them towards me, or place them wherever I can see.” Overhaul just nodded. 2. Any family/friends who would question your disappearance? “Do you have any family or friends that might find your absence…suspicious?” Strike two “Just my aunt Hina, although I’ve been moved out for two years now, so it shouldn’t seem too suspicious.” Overhaul nodded again, “Very well, tonight we’ll go ahead and move you into your new home, since you’ll be a permanent caretaker for Eri, you will need to live in the base.” Y/n simply nodded, “That’s fine with me.” Overhaul stood up, and threw on his coat. “It’s been a pleasure working with you, L/n. Chrono, take her home and help her get what she needs, I’ll have Mimic send the other precepts over to move her out.” “Yes sir.” With that, chrono left the café with Y/n. When they exited, Chrono took off his mask. He really hated wearing it, but it was kind of important. Due to his villain attire, no heroes or police knew what he looked like, so unlike some of the precepts, he could pretty much just waltz around a free man. “So, Mafia, huh?” Y/n teasingly pointed out. “Yeah…sorry about not being completely honest earlier, but I didn’t want to scare you off too quickly.” Y/n simply nodded. “It’s okay, although I doubt it would have, like I said, I’m kind of indifferent towards heroes and villains, so I at least would have heard you out first.” “Thanks…most people aren’t as understanding.” Y/n just hummed and kept walking with Chrono. “So, how did you get the name ‘Chronostasis’, does it have something to do with your quirk?” “Yeah, actually it’s the name of my quirk.” Y/n looked at Chrono with wide eyes, “What does your quirk do?” “Well, you see my hair?” He pointed to his head. “Yeah” “Okay, well you see how the ends are pointed like clock needles?” “Mhm.” “Well, I can control them, but I have to be completely still, and they’re really sharp. So, if I struck someone with the hour hand, they’ll be slowed down for an hour, If I strike someone with the minute hand, they’ll be slowed for a minute.” Y/n’s eyes widened in amazement. “Its not really that flashy…or that useful.” Chrono awkwardly looked away, hand rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. Y/n quickly shook her head. “Nuh-uh, not at all I think it’s really cool!” By the enthusiasm in her voice he knew she was being sincere. He softly SOFTLY smiled and shook his head. “You really think so?” “Yes!! They look really cool, and most people don’t have defenses against being slowed, so I think it’s super powerful!” “Thanks Y/n.” No one had ever told him they genuinely really liked his quirk. Most people just left it alone, or thought it was weird. But here was this bubbly, sweet daycare worker who was practically fangirling over it. “No problem, you shouldn’t put yourself down like that, especially when there’s nothing to put yourself down for…” Y/n averted her eyes to the ground, a soft smile still present on her lips. “Well, here we are. It’s not much, so it shouldn’t take too long.” Overhaul had already called the landlord and arranged for Y/n to be let out on the lease early. (Turns out Yakuza bosses have a bit of power over people.) Chrono and Y/n entered Y/n’s small apartment/house. Chrono looked around, for someone who’s so young, he could tell y/n put a lot of work into her house. “Okay, give me like, five minutes and I’ll get what I need.” Because Y/n only had the one room in the hassaikai, she packaged up all of her valuable collections. Pictures of family and friends, irreplaceable things and gifts, etc. She packed up her clothes and brought a small bag of essentials to get her through the night. “Okay, I’m ready to go!” With that the two left for the Hassaikai base, but not before Chrono called Nemoto to bring the car, since it was going to be a longer drive and it was pretty late. After they got back to the base, Chrono led her into the traditional looking house, got to a door and stopped. He punched in some code, and the door opened to a stair case. This is where the main part of our base is, its where all the stuff goes down. Oh, it’s also where the bedrooms are.” They made their way down the stairs and started walking down the hallway. “Don’t be intimidated by all the guys here, you’re probably going to be pretty popular for the first few weeks, other than Eri you’re the first female to be down her. Also, ignore the petty flirting, most of these guys can count on one hand the number of women they’ve ‘talked’ to, most probably on one finger” “Really?” “Uh-huh, as you can imagine we all stay pretty busy, so no one really has time to go out and meet anybody new, let alone date.” Y/n nodded her head, she knew what that was like. Working at the day care and helping her aunt out once in a while kept her pretty busy. She had dated in the past, but none of her relationships lasted. In fact she hadn’t even attempted any relationships after him. Him being her ex, who she dated through high school, and even for some time after before she caught him cheating on her with her best friend. Chrono then walked her to a door and stopped, well this is it. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.” He pushed the door open and Y/n followed him inside, he then helped Y/n unpack the few things she brought with her. “Alright, hopefully that’s good enough till tomorrow, the rest of your stuff should be here by then.” “This’ll be just fine, thank you for your help…for everything really.” She smiled at him, and he gave a half smile back. “No problem, We appreciate you coming to help…I appreciate you coming to help.” There was a silence between them, although they didn’t know what kind of silence, it wasn’t an awkward silence, more like there was something there…but neither one knew what it was. “Well, anyways, I’ll get out of your hair. The bathroom is that door right there, and the living room and kitchen are just down the hall. If you need anything just text me, you’re probably going to get lost at least once, it’s pretty much a maze down here. Uhm, yeah. Oh and you’ll meet Eri again tomorrow. Her room and my room aren’t that far from here.” “Okay, I will. Thanks again Kurono. Goodnight.” “Goodnight Y/n.” An with that, the young second hand made his way out of her room and towards Eri’s room to put her to bed, seeing as it was about 8:30 pm and he didn’t want her to be cranky when she met Y/n again tomorrow. *Knock Knock* “Eri? Can I come in? It’s daddy.” The door quickly opened and Eri tackled Chrono in a hug. Eri then led him inside and sat on her bed. “Alright kiddo, it’s time for bed. Tomorrow your going to spend the day with someone new.” Eri’s ears seemed to perk up at the mention of someone new since not many new people come around here. As Chrono was getting Eri ready for bed, he started to explain the new circumstances to her as best he could. “Do you remember the nice lady that helped you today at the park?” Eri nodded her head. “Well, she’s going to be your new caretaker.” He realized he definitely should have worded it differently when he stared back at him with big wide scared eyes. “ W-what do you mean daddy? A-are you g-going to leave me?” It then clicked that it sounded like he was being replaced! “No! No sorry Eri! I’m not going anywhere I promise!” He held her in a bone crushing hug before leading her to the bed and tucking her in, looking for a book to read before she went to sleep. “She’s just gonna help me take care of you is all. Not replace me.” “Oh.” Eri seemed to understand. “So she’s gonna be my new Mommy then?” If chrono had been drinking water he was 1,000% sure he would’ve choked. “U-um yes and no? For now, let’s just call her Ms. Y/n, okay?” He could hear the fear in his voice of her asking any more difficult questions. “But why is she here? I thought you took care of me?” “I do pumpkin, but especially because you’re a girl, you should have a girl influence to look up to.” “Because I’m a girl? But why?” Shoot. He thought he could avoid THIS topic for at least 6 more years. What is he supposed to tell her? Yeah, in about 6 years give or take your body is going to turn on you and try to kill you once a month? Not exactly something you tell a 6 year old. “H-how about we talk about it tomorrow pumpkin” If the squeakiness of his voice didn’t give him away, his red face sure did. “Daddy? Is something wrong? You’re being weird.” Chrono just shook his head and tried to compose himself. “Yeah, daddy’s just being weird. Hey! How about we read that book now.” “Okay.” Chrono then read her the book and tucked her in to sleep. Making his way to his bedroom and collapsing on his bed, tired from the events of the day.

First Careers.
You quickly make your way down the busy sidewalk, trying to make up for the few extra minutes it took to get out of work. You’d been working for Avengers Publishing House for 3 weeks now, and were loving it so far. Though it was a lot of work and you didn’t really have much free time anymore. You barely got to see your best friends lately, you all just starting on your career paths and slowly figuring out your own lives and new jobs.
Bucky had just passed his bar exam, and had started at a prestigious law firm about 2 weeks ago. You hadn’t seen much of him lately, but you kept each other informed on your day to day lives via text. He was enjoying the new job, but made it very clear that it was a learning curve and very draining work. Going from school life, to the working force was a shell shock for sure. Yes, you had all the book knowledge, but none of the real word experience, so new jobs were a lot to take in at first. You all figured they would be, but not to this extent. But he was happy, and thriving in his career choice, so that’s what truly mattered.
Steve had gotten a paid intern position at the MoMA, it was a once in a lifetime experience and he was over the moon for being chosen for the spot. But he had busted his ass to get it and you couldn’t have been prouder of him or his accomplishments. This was a huge stepping stone for him and his career, and from here more doors would be opened for him, and he’d have many more exciting and fulfilling opportunities in the future. He’d been there for 3 weeks now, having started damn near directly after leaving school.
And you, we’ll you’d been offered a Junior Editors position with Avengers, a very well known and reputable publishing house in Manhattan. It was the first stop on the climb to your dream job, and you were overjoyed with the opportunity to join their team. You’d always loved reading, and at a young age you’d figured out that being a publisher was right up your alley. And now that you had your foot in the door, you’d been entirely right on that thought. But it was a lot of work, late hours and spending your weekends at home and making your way through the stack of manuscripts you’d been given on a deadline.
So you had barely seen the guys over the last few weeks, you’d have the odd small coffee meets on rushed lunch breaks. Or the odd night you’d get together for your traditional weekly BFMMN™ (Best Friend Movie and Munchie Night.) But lately it was less of a tradition, and definitely not weekly. And when you did manage to come together, you’d all usually be out of it and exhausted, so the conversation was non-existent or minimal, at best. You all just being happy in the presence of your best friends, even in utter silence. It was better than nothing.
But today, you were all meeting for dinner, going out to finally celebrate your new jobs and your introductions to the working force. And in Classic You form, you’d lost track of time and were now running late. As per usual.
The restaurants sign finally comes into view and you pick up the pace a little, maneuvering through the swarms of people that always seemed to crowd the city sidewalks. But especially directly after working hours, all the people moving to and from their jobs, their homes and various businesses along the streets. Going to meet friends, to grab coffee or just take a leisurely stroll.
You weren’t taking a leisurely stroll currently though, you were damn near throwing elbows to get to the restaurant in a timely manner. You weren’t super late, by any means, but late was late, and awarded you less time with your best friends. Which wasn’t okay, at all. Not lately at least, not with how little you’d seen either of them the last few weeks.
You’d planned this dinner with them a few weeks ago, to make sure you all were free and clear, and wouldn’t miss it for anything else. You’d made the guys swear to set reminders in their phones so no one forgot or made other conflicting plans tonight. Come hell or high water, you were having dinner with your friends, and then the three of you were returning to your place after, for a few drinks and a movie. There was no getting out of it this time, you needed a fun, relaxing night with your guys, desperately.
You reach the entrance to the restaurant and quickly pull open the door, finding a beautiful young woman standing behind a podium. She asks for the reservation name, and you give her yours as you’d set it up. She smiles, informing you that only one other person has arrived so far and then leads you to the back where the table is.
As your eyes scan the room quickly, they land on a glorious head of blonde hair and a large involuntary smile takes over your face. Stevie, you should have guessed he’d be here first, he was always on time, or in most cases, early.
You also shouldn’t have been so worried about being a few minutes late, as Bucky always showed up last. You were positive that the guy treated being fashionably late like it was a dang character trait. He took it seriously, and never showed up on time, not even remotely.
He ran on his own clock and you’d actually lied to him a few times over the years, giving him incorrect early start times for important things, so that he’d end up late for the fake start time, but right on time for the real one. He’d always chuckle the second he arrived and saw the smug and satisfied expressions on yours and Steve's faces at him accidentally, yet strategically, arriving on time. Though you couldn’t pull that trick too often, or it would cease to work, so you had to pick your battles, and only use it in important or dire situations.
You make your way towards the table, and Steve, admiring the unfairly beautiful angle, even if it was the back of his head. But that wasn’t a shock, the guy was gorgeous and looked outstanding from all sides. It was wholly unfair and a rather large piss off, if you were honest, the guy didn’t have a bad angle anywhere. All hard lines, muscles and taut tanned skin. Then his perfect blonde hair and mesmerizing deep blue eyes, he was the walking embodiment of perfection in your eyes, and probably in many other people's eyes as well.
As you get closer to the table, you notice he is hunched forward a little and looking down, and it doesn’t take a rocket doctor to guess that he probably has his illusive sketchbook out. You have always known, from early on, that Steve loved to draw. He took his sketchbook everywhere with him and pulled it out whenever he was waiting, or no one was watching. But you’d only ever seen a few of his sketches, he was very secretive about his artwork. He didn’t like to show it off and the odd time he did, he was always humble yet embarrassed by it. Saying that it either wasn’t finished yet, or wasn’t that good.
You’d praise the artwork every time though, and not because you were his best friend, but because it was genuinely always amazing. He had a real talent, if he could just get over his insecurities and actually show his work off to the world, he’d see just how honest your praises really were.
But he’d always shrink away at the mention of showing people, saying he didn’t draw for recognition, but instead just for him. It was his stress relief and he only drew whatever caught his eye or inspired him that day. Like little snapshots of his life that were just for his eyes, and his eyes only.
You gave up trying to persuade him to share his art with the world, hell, to even just share it with you and Buck. And instead you’d just leave the topic entirely alone, it wasn’t your place to demand anything from him, especially if it made him uncomfortable. Or felt like you were pulling teeth. So you’d dropped the whole art thing completely, and instead just left it up to him to decide what, and when, he shared it with you. And each time he’d show you a little something, you lapped it up with eager enjoyment and locked away the mental snapshot forever. Taking any little morsel he offered and loving it as brightly as you could.
The fact he even showed you anything, spoke volumes to you. Made you feel so immensely special to be one of the select few who got to actually set eyes on his artwork.
“Whatcha drawing, Stevie?” You asked abruptly as you reached the table, pointedly not looking at his sketchbook out of respect for his art privacy. You quickly took your jacket off, hanging it on the back of your chair before taking the seat across from him.
Steve calmly, but promptly, shut the book and glanced up at you, no matter how many times you tried to startle him, it never worked. The guy had eyes on the back of his head, you swear. He smiled at you, before tucking the book and pencils away in his messenger bag. “Just the things around me. Ya know, the usual,” he shrugged.
You just nodded, averting your eyes to the menu in front of you, as you picked it up and glanced over the options. “Sorry I’m late, got tied up at work,” you pause, glancing around the table playfully before locking eyes with Steve and smirking. “But I see the Jerk is keeping up his personally appointed job of making me always feel on time,” you chuckled, and Steve did as well.
“Well, you know him, he always has to arrive last so we can all fully appreciate his outfit choice,” he grins and shakes his head, picking up his own menu also.
You both fall into a silence, it’s not exactly awkward, but it’s not exactly comfortable either. You and Steve have sort of drifted since he started dating Hailey, not so much physically but more mentally. You still hang out as a group, but no longer just the two of you. And you still talk, but no longer as deeply, it’s mainly surface stuff now. Your jobs, your families, your day to day lives.
He doesn’t talk about Hailey with you often, if at all, he keeps pretty mum about her actually. Barely even saying her name in your presence unless he absolutely has to. No lie, you're thankful for that, but also not at the same time, especially since their third date they’ve been damn near inseparable. Spending almost all their free time together, but he still makes the effort to join in on the group stuff. And luckily for you, he’s never once brought Hailey along, he’s never even asked, not once. He seems to understand and respect that your group time is just for your little circle of 3.
But it’s not that she wouldn’t be welcome to join, every once and awhile. You’d suck up your stupid jealous bullshit here and there, if you had to. She made Steve happy, from the small things you’d heard, and could perceive in your childhood best friend. So having her around the odd time, you could deal with, you weren’t a complete asshole. But yet you liked that he never brought her around, for the sake of your heart, but not that he did it for that reason. God no, he still had no clue of your feelings, and to this day, you’d still never voiced them aloud.
You guessed he never invited her more for the sake that you and Bucky were his friends, his best friends, and sometimes he just needed time away from Hailey. Time to just be a party of one, with people who truly knew him. He had his separate friends that he shared with Hailey, and she had her own friends that were entirely her own. It was a mutual thing for them, their own ways to escape and get the time they needed away from each other, so that the relationship didn’t feel smothering or overbearing. Little spaces here and there are so important, and needed to keep a relationship healthy and thriving. To keep it from turning toxic and becoming too codependent, because that was never a good thing.
Plus you figured he kept her separated because the three of you had so much history, that Hailey may have felt left out or like an outsider to, as she wasn’t around for most of your friendship. Nor was she present for many of the big, and memorable moments that you all reminisced about or brought up often.
Whatever his true reasonings were, you were just secretly thankful for them. And for the fact you had your guys entirely to yourself, whenever you got together. Yes, it was selfish, but most humans hate change, and with certain things, you weren’t any different. You were entirely human, after all.
“Works going okay?”
“Hmm?” You hum, lifting your eyes to find Steve studying you now, his focus no longer on his menu. How long was he staring at you? You have no clue. Are you positive that your slightly disheartened thoughts were clear as day on your face, and that he probably saw them all? Oh 100%, judging by the concerned look on his face currently. You clearly really needed to work on your poker face, it had obviously deteriorated in the last few weeks, what with your lack of needing to use it. “Oh, yeah,” you plaster on your signature fake smile. “Work is going great. How about you? How’s the prestigious MoMA treating you?”
His eyes light up, like they always do when he is excited about something. “It’s amazing, Y/N. Everyone has been so helpful and very knowledgeable. I’ve learned more in the last 4 weeks than I did in my entire time at school.” He chuckles, “or at least it feels like I have.”
“That’s wonderful to hear, Steve. I’m so happy you are enjoying it so much,” you smile fondly at him. This one a real smile for once. “No one deserves this experience as much as you, as you busted your ass in school.” You grin cheekily at him, “and I’d know, I was the one who had to drag you out of the library weekly, to force you to eat a real meal.”
“Isn’t that the truth,” He laughs at that, “did I ever properly thank you for single handedly keeping me alive back then?”
You place a finger on your chin as you hum, in feigned deep thought then shake your head. “Not that I can remember. But I take praise and apologizes in the form of baked goods, if you forgot.”
He smirks and shakes his head, “oh, I didn’t forget. Not for a damn second, not when a dozen cookies saved my ass more than a few times with you, throughout the years.”
“That they did,” you laugh, nodding in agreement to his words. “How’s Hailey?” The words slip from your mouth unfiltered and you want to kick yourself. Yet, you are curious how things are with them, you just should have waited till Bucky was here to act as a buffer. Because your conflicting thoughts on the topic of Steve's relationship caused you to do and say the dumbest things when she was occasionally brought up.
You were happy that he was, you truly wanted the best for him. But you still carried this ridiculous torch for him, and it hurt a little every time she was brought up. You were selfishly jealous of her, or maybe less of her, and more of the man she got to call her own. The one man you always wanted that privilege with, but would never get. You knew that, but just couldn’t fully come to terms with it. Maybe one day you would, maybe one day she could be brought up and you wouldn’t cringe internally and feel your heart crack a little more each time.
“Ah, good. She’s good,” he nods, focusing back on his menu. “What looks good here?”
You take a silent deep breath in, your abrupt question luckily not sullying the mood. “I was thinking the Cordon Bleu Chicken Burger sounds fantastic,” you hum, glancing over the options, “but then the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl looks amazing as well.” You groan, “ugh, why can I never just pick one? Why do I always get stuck between two choices, and then literally have to decide when the waitress appears and asks what I want?”
Steve chuckles, “and then you instantly regret your choice the second the waitress walks away.”
You are just about to refute that, but a new voice joins the mix. “But then once the food arrives, she goes on and on about how good of a choice she made. And how great the food is.”
You snap your eyes over and see a grinning Bucky walking towards your table. He takes his jacket off and hangs it on the back of his chair before taking a seat in the spot beside Steve.
“Okay, I’m not that bad,” you defend and playfully roll your eyes at the guys chuckling and shaking their head in disagreement of your words.
“Oh, you totally are,” Bucky reaffirms for good measure.
Which causes you to laugh, “okay, fine, maybe I am. But just a little.”
“Try a lot,” Steve corrects and you sigh deeply, jokingly. Which causes you all to laugh before exchanging your fond hello’s, and asking Bucky the basic life update questions, before you all focus on the menu to make your selections before the waitress appears.
Once the food is ordered, you having once again left the choice to the last minute and then just threw your pick at the waitress like always, the three of you fall into a comfortable and familiar conversation. Taking about the ‘good old days’ and the more in-depth topics.
The food arrives and you all enjoy it, immensely. And once again, you are completely happy with your choice, like the guys mentioned, and your momentary panic for possibly ordering the wrong thing, also like they mentioned, flies out the window. Like every other time, which is so Classically You—as Bucky had pointed out directly after you’d all finished eating. Causing Steve to laugh and you to glare fondly at the large brunette.
Dinner goes well but just as the three of you are paying your separate bills, Steve’s phone rings and he pulls it from his bag, apologizing for forgetting to put it on silent. As was the Rule for group night, that being put in place back in high school when Bucky’s phone had gone off damn near the entire night and he’d ended up essentially ignoring you and Steve to reply to all his ‘fans’ as you’d dubbed them. So you’d implemented a silent phone policy, which basically meant no phones allowed on BFMMN™.
He steps away for a moment, saying it’s Hailey and promising to be quick. You sigh quietly to yourself and stand with Bucky, waiting for Steve to return.
“Hopefully everything’s okay,” you comment softly, slightly irked for the interruption to group night, but also a little worried as Hailey is usually super respectful of your group time. She normally never bothers Steve while he is with you, another thing you are really thankful for. You’re happy he found someone who isn’t overly intrusive or overbearing, she is good for him, as much as you hate to admit it, it’s the truth.
“I’m sure it is, she probably just can’t find the TV remote again,” Bucky shakes his head and his words cause you to furrow your brows and glance up at him.
“What?” You ask confused. Why would she call for something like that? “What do you mean?”
Bucky purses his lips, looking like he just realized he said too much. But why would he feel like that? “Ah, it’s nothing, really. She does it all the time,” he shrugs it off.
What the hell? “Does what all the time? Loses the TV remote?”
“No,” he sighs, scratching the side of his head, it’s a nervous tick of his, he does it whenever he is trying to find the right words. Which only intrigues you more. “Constantly calls him for silly little pointless things. I think she does it to ‘check in’ on him. Make sure he is where he says he is. I’ve mentioned my thoughts about it to Steve, but he just waves them off and says she is just forgetful.”
“Wait, wait,” you put up a hand as if to pause the conversation. “What are you going on about? She doesn’t call all the time. She’s never called him on group nights in the past.”
Bucky gives you a weird assessing look, “yes, she has. Every time, and multiple times per night. But Steve is usually really good with shutting his phone off before he joins us, so that it doesn’t go off constantly while we are all together.” He grins and in Classic Bucky form, he tries to fix the strange awkward atmosphere with humour. “I think you scared the Jesus out of him—or into him, whichever, when you snapped at me that one time for my phone going off all night. Since that night, he’s made it his life’s mission to never be on the receiving end of your cranky outbursts about phone etiquette during group time,” he chuckles. Then jokingly cringes, “You’re scary as hell when you're mad.”
“I had no idea,” you say quietly. Here you’d just finished praising the woman in your mind for her ‘respect’ for group night. When really, that clearly isn’t the case. How did you never know about this?
“I think that was kind of the point.”
“Why does she check in on him so much?” You ask curiously.
“I don’t know. I suspect it might have something to do with you, though.”
“Me?” You quickly ask, “what the hell? Why?”
“She has always had this weird fixation on you, for some reason she thinks there is something more between Steve and you.”
Leave it to Bucky to always give you the real tea, he may not come out and say it right away, but if it ever comes up and you ask him about it, he never lies or avoids the truth. He always tells you how he sees it, how it is, and you’ve always adored that about him. There’s no sugarcoating, and no bullshit, it’s just his own honest opinions on things.
“But we are just friends?” You asked confused, though it’s less a question and more a statement. “What could she possibly be worried about? There are no feelings like that between us.” Which is partially true, from Steve’s side at least. However it’s a complete and blatant lie from yours, but no one knows that—for sure—aside from you. Bucky raises a disbelieving brow at you, but doesn’t comment on your words.
“She seems to think otherwise.” He shakes his head, “But don’t worry too much about it, it’s always been this way and her insecurities are her own. Ya know, since both you and Steve have always been so adamant that you’re just friends.” He pauses, giving you a little side eye before continuing, once again making you aware that he probably does know of your true feelings for Steve. “She’ll either come to realize that, eventually, or she won’t, but that’s on her. Not you. And at the end of the day, it’s between her and Steve, they have to work it out themselves. Don’t stress too much about the things you can’t control.”
You nod, feeling a little guilty for possibly causing an issue in Steve’s relationship. But also slightly irked at the fact you’re just finding out about this now. And at the new realization that she doesn’t come around because she most likely doesn’t like you, when you’ve never done a damn thing to her. Or to warrant her disliking you that much. How fucking rude is that? You may not exactly like her either, but at least you’d suck it up and be civil, you do respect her and Steve’s relationship, and would never interfere with it. Ever. In any form.
Yet, she doesn’t seem to hold those same sentiments, as it turns out, and she tries to interfere with your friend time often. Go figure, you’d have never known that, if it weren’t for Steve forgetting to turn his phone off this time. Before you can think any further on this all, Steve returns looking for a split second like he is exhausted.
But the second his drained eyes meet yours, a light flickers in them and he smiles at you. It almost looks fake at first to your knowledgeable eyes, but you shake your head and ignore that thought as he approaches you both.
“Sorry about that, Hailey just had a quick question.”
Bucky scoffs quietly and you elbow him, giving him a warning look to zip it. “All good, Steve,” you smile at him. Deciding to not pull on this proverbial string for once, because you may not like where it ends up, and you fear that bringing this up to him will only stand to put more of a riff between you two.
“Should we head out?” You ask, glancing between the two guys, receiving nods then the three of you exit the restaurant and head towards your apartment.
Throughout the night, you keep your mouth shut on the topic of Hailey, Steve is never really forthcoming with you about her, and you’re realizing that it’s probably because of her insecurities about you. About your friendship with him, and you can’t be sure of this, but you're willing to bet that anytime you’re brought up, she probably has something to say about it. Or maybe he doesn’t bring you up at all, he’s never been dumb by any means, and he is probably aware of her feelings towards you. And maybe because he filters you out of his conversations with her, he just unconsciously does the same in reverse. Filtering out her from his conversations with you.
Shit, but who honestly knows? You’re so sick of overthinking every little thing in your friendship with Steve, solely because you refuse to ask him about it. You refuse to bring any of it up. But also mainly because you refuse to add anymore stress onto him. Especially this sort of unnecessary and pointless stress.
The last thing you want to do, is to drive him away, or push him away, because he can’t handle the questions and issues from both sides. Do you deserve more answers? Of course. Are you going to press Steve for them? Fuck no. So instead, you’ll just harass Bucky about it later, privately. But Steve will never know any of it, he’ll never know that you know about any of this.
Cause he’s the one that you can't lose. But he’s the one that you can't win.

Linneaus: Undertow Pt 1

This story is rated PG-13 for content. You have been warned.
It was a beautiful day for the citizens of Charluftton as the Wild Waves Festival was in full swing. The plaza was full of vendors selling t-shirts and frozen ice, the bar was full of all kinds of live music, including bands like Boil, The Lost Tapes and Art House, and even the beach was full of fun events such as volley ball, sailing, and even a beach 5k obstacle course. Boaters were out fishing and tubing and just all around having a good time. However, for the shapeshifting vixen, she was lying home in bed wearing her work cap, a buttoned jacket and khaki work pants. On her nametag was the name “Kit Rouge”. She was a shy fox who was diagnosed with a disorder that caused her to have trouble controlling her shapeshifting powers, and today, due to the events that occurred at work, was no exception.
“All I did was get grossed out…” she muttered. “Yet of course I turned into a fox bug like I always do when I’m disgusted. And of course, everyone thinks I’m too old for this to happen. I can’t control it…”
Kit had a busy day at work with lots of fishermen and families out buying things from pool toys to bait and couldn’t even stop the lines from the shoppers just itching to get their stuff and hit the water. She swore if she saw another sailor she would transform into her angry form and chuck them off their boat.
Her cellphone rang, and Kit answered.
“Hey Vixie!” Coin started, wearing sunglasses. “Work was rough today wasn’t it?!”
“Oh! Hello Coin! It was rough! Like the time that giraffe all jacked up on cocaine went up to you and-“
“Didn’t you remember our plans for today?!” he interrupted.
“What plans?” the khaki-clad kitsune asked.
“To go tubing with us!” Rio said.
“But I thought we were going to go to the beach!” Kit cried. “I want to lie down, get a sun tan and eat all the cannolis I can think off!”
“The beach is tomorrow and the next day!” Coin replied.
“Just get changed, pack some sandwiches and don’t forget the tube! See you in a half an hour.”
With that they hung up.
Kit thought about it for a second and decided to just go embark with her friends on the boat.
The young vixen put on a yellow one-piece swimsuit and covered it with a Zelda t-shirt and her khaki shorts from her work uniform. She then put on her special waterproof contacts, so she doesn’t turn her friends into her clones again. Finally, she made her friends sandwiches to eat on the boat while they hung out. Kit opened the garage to find Coin’s boat tube and sighed, knowing that none of their days out ever go well.
When she arrived, she saw her jackelope friend in his salmon trunks, purple t-shirt and sunglasses, with Rio harvest mouse perched on top of his antlers. She was in a little sailor’s outfit with a cap.
“First mate Rio! Ready to embark!” she said with glee.
“Hey Kitty!” Coin blurted. “Just put the tube in the back, were going to go fishing for a little while.”
“I thought you had a fear of fish.” Kit replied.
“My dad wants us to get fish for the Braun’s fish recipe!”
“You hate the taste of fish as well!”
“I’m getting paid if I do this.”
“Fair.”
And with that, they entered the boat.
Kit untied the ropes from the hooks, while Rio and Coin brought the buoys into the boat.
“Hey um Kit…” Rio said. “I think you might want to put your sunhat in the cabinet, so you don’t lose it.
“Oh, I’m fine.” Kit said without concern. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
As Coin and First Mate Rio pushed it to thirty miles an hour, Kit began to scream as her body grew more multicolored fur, whiskers grew, and her body became feline. The scared cat held onto her hat as hard as she could while the boat tore through the river.
“I retract my previous statement!” screamed Kit. “This is way too fast! My hat’s gonna fly away if you’re not careful!”
“Too fast?” replied Coin, seemingly unaffected by the rip-roaring speeds they were currently travelling at.
“No way! Calm down, will you? If you didn’t want your hat to get blown off, you should’ve at least stored it in the compartment.”
Begrudgingly, he and Rio slowed to boat down so that Kit could hand the hat over to Rio.
“Honestly,” she said, “We should’ve insisted on it in the first place.”
As they continued to sail, the trio began to develop an appreciation for the architecture of the waterside houses. Rio would wonder aloud who lives there, or there, or there? Enough time had passed for Kit to have calmed down; one tug of her tail later, and she was back in her fox form.
“Right then,” she said, retrieving her hat at last, “What are we up to first?”
“Sandbar, of course!” replied Rio as the boat sailed towards the spot where the ocean embraced the shore.
The little stretch of sand was surprisingly full of people sunbathing, dipping their toes in the water; anything to make the most of the fresh heat.
“Oh, nice! We can all have a game of keepie-uppie!”
Kit casted her line out towards the water and waited. Soon enough she had something on her line, reeling it in as hard as she could to discover she had caught a gar.
“Nice!” she said, pleased with herself.
“Hey, look guys I caught this cool long-billed thing!”
The crowd looked over, but only saw the fish worth jack squat and laughed.
Kit became slimier and turned grey, with white hair growing until she was now her sad form, the fox slug Granny.
“Dang nabbit!” she muttered to herself before casting the line once again…only to this time catch a sea bass…
“Did you bring the football?” Rio asked.
“Sure did!” Coin said, holding the old pigskin.
“I said the football!” Rio growled.
“This is a football!” Coin responded, perplexed.
Soon an argument erupted between the two of them, until they decided to just toss the ball around. The jackelope through a spiral throw towards Rio, who then responded by nailing her personal perch in the chest. Coin got up, picked the football off of the bar and tossed it again. After a while, he was getting nailed in the face, chest, and even in the groin by the sailor mouse’s throws. He called for a time out to see Granny still trying to catch fish.
“Hey bud.” She said. “Could you give my tail a pull?”
Coin turned her back into Kit.
“Thanks”
“So what’s going on here?” Coin asked.
“I”ve been catching nothing but sea bass and gar…”
Coin looked at her in disbelief.
“Kit there aren’t any sea bass in here…you mean sea trout.”
Kit blushed a little.
“It’s alright, you caught like five of them already!”
So, they waited and caught a decent amount of fish to put in the cooler.
After sunbathing for a bit, the Trio decided it was time to go tubing. They packed up their chairs, their belongings and the fish, which were placed in a water tank on the back of the boat.
“Alright guys!” Rio shouted with excitement. “Time for tubing!”
Coin took off his shirt and glasses, leaving him with only his trunks, while Kit dressed down to her swimsuit. Both of them then put on life jackets and hopped onto the tube.
“Um…” Kit said, somewhat nervous. “I’m not sure I want to do this…”
“Oh we’ll be fine. I’ve gone tubing dozens of times.”
“Get ready you guys!” First Mate Rio shouted as she pushed on the gas. She pulled it forward and the two cryptid creatures were yanked screaming. They narrowly missed other boats and shores, but soon the wild mouse got carried away. At a wedding reception between two mice on a dock, the two burst through and destroyed the dock the mice were on, leaving Coin with a face full of tiny wedding cake, and Kit with the groom in her mouth. Next, the two of them flew over another boat’s wake, which was sunk as soon as the tube landed on it. Finally, they neared an exclusive gated community residence, and ended up going through the yards of the tenants. Statues, trees, and rocks pelted them with pure bruises and scratches. At one point, they broke in through a beaver business man’s house and destroyed his kitchen, his teenage daughter’s bedroom, and his priceless wine cellar.
After breaking out of the last wall, a ramp was seen straight ahead for the duo, and with the ramp, Kit flew off of the tube and belly flopped into the water. Coin, luckily, stayed on, but ended up getting dragged through marsh grasses and oyster beds. He was all chopped up, so when Rio stopped, Coin fell into a million pieces. He healed himself, as always when he got this injured, and pulled into the boat.
“Hang on, where’s Kit?” the crazy driver asked.
From a groan they heard, the two saw her bobbing in the water. Coin spun it back around to collect Kit, who wasn’t very amused about the whole situation once she climbed back on board.
She was trying her best not to snap at Rio, as the jackelope got her a towel to wipe off the water.
Rio than then tried to fire up the engine but called Coin over. After a brief and worried discussion, the rabbit sheepishly confronted his fox friend.
“Umm…Kit….”
“What is it?” she snapped with her eyes already glowing.
“The boat…it’s out of gas…”
Suddenly Kit screamed as she transformed into DemKit, with his voice deepening into a roar. He picked up the cowering and flailing jackelope and chucked him off the boat. Then moved on towards Rio and held her up, shaking her around.
“WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO NOW FIRST MATE RIO?!?!” he roared.
“Calm Down!” Rio said. “Coin can just call the boat tow.”
DemKit dropped Rio and blushed a little embarrassed.
“Sorry Coin!” he yelled out.
“Try to grab the tube.”
Coin swam towards the tube, failing to notice the fin behind him. He climbed onto it, but as he was being pulled in by the fox monster, a shark leapt from behind him and bit down on his swim trunks, ripping them and pulling them into the water. His two friends screamed with DemKit frantically pulling on the rope harder, but it was fruitless as he pulled it in to find the shark had cut it in half. Coin, meanwhile, had a censor bar over his special area and watched as whale watchers and fishermen boated by laughing. The shark returned and pulled the censor off of him, causing DemKit and Rio to blush and look away.
“How can this get any worse?” the mouse said to herself.
“There they are!” an angry woman said, with a crowd of people on a police boat. The officer looked to see a sailor mouse next to a steering wheel, some fox monster, and a naked jackelope behind them.
“Oh crap.” DemKit said to himself, embarrassed.
Later on, Kit, now back as her normal self, and Coin were eating the fish they’d caught in the estuary with their families at Coin’s house.
“I’m glad they found out I was just transformed.” She said. “And they found the shark with Coin’s compressions lodged in its throat at the hospital. He said he needed clothes to deliver to someone.”
“Who?” Gunda asked
“We don’t know yet, but because he pulled my censored bar away he now has to register as a sex offender.”
“As for Rio?” Kit’s father asked.
“Well because she was recklessly driving to the point of bodily harm and property damage, and we didn’t do anything wrong, she has to spend the Festival in jail.” Kit replied.
“It’s a good thing you guys called to get the trout out.” Jonas said. “Proud of you son!”
“Thanks dad! How was the nautical golf tournament?”
“Well, we placed second.” He declared to Margaret. “We have to go to the plaza tomorrow. You are performing tomorrow night correct?”
“Yea, I’m meeting Harry and Roxie at work tomorrow, and D’Arcy is setting up her clothing tent at the beach market.”
“Apparently someone sent a threat to her earlier this afternoon.” Kit’s brother told them. “They’re investigating who sent it.”
“Well, it’s probably nothing we should worry about, but we should tell D’Arcy once we get to the beach.”
Meanwhile the salmon trunks sank into a cave where a sea serpent sat waiting and grabbed it.
“Nice…” she said. “A sample of clothing from one of that jersey devil’s friends.” She smiled with glee. “He could be useful to me… in finally bringing her down…” she laughed as her factory workers continued to work…

New Life

Summary: honestly have no idea how to summarize this one
Read Earlier Parts Here
It was the start of a new decade and Barbara was excited. It was like there was a buzz in the air, change was happening and Barbara found herself fascinated by it all. All the trivial occurrences that happened while she suffered through high school were nothing compared to things humans now fought for. She found herself making all types of friends, supporting them in all their endeavors and she couldn’t help but feel how much she missed when she was human. The things she should have pursued, the life she should have lived.
Not that Barbara couldn’t do anything like that now she just had to be careful in what she would do. Make sure she wasn’t too much in the public eye. Helping her friends through closed doors. And giving them the right encouragement they needed, something she wished she would have had while human. And while she interacted with her friends she noticed that she slowly felt more human by the day.
At first Babara was worried over how she would hide her thirst. She was in a dorm room with another human and she wasn’t sure if the girl would go poking around her things. But she managed, storing her blood in small areas in special bottles. It was still a hassle trying to replenish her supply every so often. She mainly did it at night once her roommate was fast asleep. But as the time passed it became easier for Barbara to disguise her main meal. She found more creative ways to eat human food finding it was easier to keep it down when she had enough blood in her system. Barbara hadn’t realized how much effort she had put into being human until the time came to visit her family.
Barbara figured she should visit her family during Christmas since all of her friends were going back home. Esme welcomed her back with open arms and hugged her tightly.
“I've only been gone a few months.” Said Barbara as she hugged her surrogate mother back.
“Ah a few months too many.” Esme whispered as she pulled away looking her over.
“I brought you something.” Barbara sang as she held up a gift bag over filled with tissue paper. “You can't open it till Christmas though.”
Esme laughed as she took the bag and quickly placed it under the christmas tree. Alice came up next holding her hand out expectantly.
“I love it already.” Alice said smiling smugly.
“I will get you one of these years.” Barbara grumbled as she surrendered the other bag that contained Alice’s gift that she no doubt already saw.
It had been easy to settle back in with her family spending time with everyone as the day progressed though for some reason she couldn’t help but feel a little strange. Was she forgetting something? Could vampires forget things? Doubtful. Then she remembered and suddenly found herself staring at empty cupboards.
“What are you doing?” Edward asked no doubt confused by her strange train of thought.
“Um.” Barbara blinked as she slowly closed the cupboards. “Looking for food?”
“Why?”
“This is usually around the time my friends and I go out to eat.” Barbara explained remembering the places her friends and her liked to visit.
“You don’t need to do that here you know.” Edward said, frowning at her thoughts.
“I know.” Barbara shrugged. “Force of habit.”
“How can you stand it?” The question took Barbara off guard.
“Stand what?”
“Being so immersed with the humans so much. Being able to live with them and act like one.” Edward asked and Barbara laughed lightly.
“Let me guess you guys are betting on when I’m going to snap your losing.”
“Hardly.” Though Edward sleightly smirked and Barbara sighed.
“I love them. I love my friends, I love watching humanity change. Though granted some things aren’t looking good right now but still… every time I see a human I just think, what kind of friend would I have wanted? What would I have wanted to be told to me if I were in this position? It makes it easier to just live.” Barbara noticed how quiet the house had gotten, too quiet. Everyone was listening, but she didn’t mind, she knew she was the oddball of the family.
On Christmas Day they went on a familial hunt, Barbara tagged along though she brought her bag with bottles. Sure it took awhile draining an animal this way but it was easier to drink when she wanted rather than waiting.
“Why don't you just eat one now and then fill up your little bottles?” Emmett asked as he approached, his shirt in tatters.
“Because dear little brother I don't play with my food unlike some people.” Barbara said as she tucked her bottle away and grabbed a new one.
“You’re no fun.” Emmett mumbled as he took off.
“Bet I’m more fun than Edward.” She shouted and heard his replying laugh.
“I'm not that bad.” Edward said behind her just as Barbara was about to pounce on her next victim.
“Dang it.” Barbara muttered as the deer hopped away and turned to glare at her brother and he simply laughed.
Just then Carlisle quickly passed by and Barbara couldn’t help but catch the way he looked at them.
“Can I ask you something?” Barbara wondered as she slipped out of her hiding spot. She couldn’t help but think of the way Carlisle stared at them, it wasn't the first time he had that look.
Edward sighed and Barbara turned to look at him noticing the look on his face, as if this was a conversation he was hoping not to have.
“Okay let it out.” Barbara said, crossing her arms, but Edward seemed reluctant to speak. Always the gentleman.
She tried to think of the times Carlisle has looked like that. The situations she was in, it was usually always with Edward, and it was alway when they were cheerful around each other. She thought of her existence, she knew technically she shouldn’t have been created. And the timing of her creation had coincided with Alice and Jasper's arrival. There was slight tension as the family tried to get used to three new family me beers rather than just one. However the tension quickly went away as Barbara seemed to adapt to the new life pretty well. She got along with the family members pretty well though things almost got dicey with Jasper as he was very hesitant of Alice being so close to a newborn.
Then Barbara thought deeper of her family, Carlisle had created Edward out of loneliness. Esme out of desperation to save her life and they quickly became a pair. Rosalie was technically for Edward though Edward never felt that way towards her at all which had annoyed Rosalie but made Barbara laugh at the idea. Emmett was for Rosalie… ohhhh.
“I was meant for you.” Barbara whispered as realization hit her. Edward however said nothing as he saw her thoughts because now she was thinking about her life… her human life.
Growing up everything was always decided for her. She was an only child, yes she would get a decent education but she also needed to know how to be a housewife. Yes she could go to college but she really shouldn’t focus much on it. They just needed to send her somewhere where she couldn’t get in too much trouble. Yes the guy she dated was only her first boyfriend but she should settle down now she wasn't getting any younger. Yes the marriage was hard but she just needed to make him happy leave those intrusive thoughts as daydreams. Read a novel to escape, focus on the house, give him a child to make him stay.
Barbara shook her head and leaned against a tree and Edward looked concerned having also gotten the memory dump.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered.
“It's fine.” Barbara shook her head. Even though Carlisle had probably changed her to hopefully be for Edward, he also never protested her leaving. He still let her live how she wanted to.
"That's sweet of Carlisle, but considering the manner in which my marriage ended I'm not really looking to settle down again." Barbara said and lightly laughed when she saw the scowl on Edwards face. Always the gentleman.
"Besides." Barbara continued, "you're not really my type."
"Oh that we can agree." Edward replied, making Barbara gasp in mock horror.
"You would speak to your would be wife like that?" She accused and Edward sighed.
"You're not going to let this go are you?"
"Never." Barbara teased and sped away to find a new prey.
After that conversation Barbara couldn't help but think of the whole situation, mainly the reason behind her creation. She didn't get a chance to speak to him before she left but the thought was there in the back of her mind. When summer came around she headed back home again and decided to go on a hunt with Carlisle.
"Can I ask you something?" Barbara asked when Carlisle finished his first kill.
"Of course."
“Why exactly did you change me?” She watched him carefully though he didn't seem surprised by this question.
“I know you talked to Edward about this, and though yes I did hope that maybe you two would have worked out, I did have other reasons.” He walked over to a tree and casually leaned against it. “I taught a class at a college one day, it was simple and I knew many were not really paying attention. We have that effect on people as I’m sure you know. However there was one student, so eager to learn, so many questions on the subject, so curious. You took me by surprise, I’ll admit I was a little disappointed when Rosalie informed me you had dropped out of school.”
Barbara was shocked when she remembered this, though granted the memory was a bit blurry but it was there. And then she also remembered, she had wanted to become a doctor.
“When you turned up in the hospital that day, your heart barely beating, your husband having already given up on you.” Carlisle shook his head in distaste, “and then you opened your eyes and you were so focused, so full of life. And I realized I wasn't going to let that light go to waste.”
Barbara smiled softly at her surrogate father, definitely a much kinder man than her real one.
“You really shouldn’t worry about Edward so much, like Rosalie I think the right one will come when the time is right.”
“And you?” Carlisle asked, eyeing her curiously. Barbara winced playfully.
“Like I told Edward, given how my marriage ended I’m not looking to settle down anytime soon. I want to keep exploring as much as possible.”
“Well don’t forget to visit us while you explore.” Carlisle smiled though it didn't quite reach his eyes and she wondered if he was thinking of when Edward left.
That wasn't quite the idea she had of exploring, she loved humans too much to go down that path. Like always she was simply curious, she wanted to learn things she never had time for, go to places she only dreamed of. But she still wanted to stay in a certain place, something to call home. So she did, staying in certain colleges in Seattle while using her summer to travel to different parts in the world. She visited her family though as the years went by moth long visits turned into weeks, weeks turned into days, then she found herself only dropping by every so often for a day or two. And then the moment came when she stopped coming home all together and not even Esme could get her to come visit.

At school the next morning, Marinette made the mistake of doodling a pair of cat ears in her notebook while waiting for class to start. Well, that wasn't really the mistake. But she should have hidden it better.
"So how is Cat Noir these days?" Alya asked, sliding toward Marinette on their bench.
"I don't know, Alya. You're the one who follows him and Ladybug around all the time. Shouldn't I be asking you?"
"But I'm not the one with the massive crush on him."
"Humph." Marinette bent low over her paper and continued doodling, trying to ignore her friend.
Alya slid closer, until they were hip to hip. "I don't hear any denials," she sang.
"Only because you wouldn't believe them anyway." Why waste the energy? The cat ears on her notebook complete, she moved on to drawing whiskers and a nose. Cat Noir was going to be so excited tonight! She'd worked out all the details and was ready to surprise him. She couldn't wait to see his face! Uh... the happy look on his face. Not that she couldn't wait to see his face.  You know what? She was going to stop thinking now.
Alya bumped her shoulder, trying to get her attention. When Marinette continued to ignore her, she tried a different tactic. "What do you think, Adrien?"
"About what?" Adrien broke off his conversation with Nino and turned around in his seat. Wide-eyed and smiling, he looked up at them, glancing from one to the other.
"Cat Noir and my girl, here." She slung an arm over Marinette's shoulders.  “Don't you think they'd be cute together?"
Marinette shook her head.
"Why not?" Adrien said. "She's great, he's great."
This is a new low, Alya.
"I don't know," Marinette said, tapping her chin. "I don't think I could stand the smell."
"The... smell?" Adrien asked, leaning back in his seat. "What are you-"
"Yeah," she continued, "because of all the purr-fume."
Adrien blinked, then laughed. "You share a sense of humor, too." He looked overjoyed by the joke, and bouncier than she had ever seen him.
Marinette chuckled. "Yea—no. No, I just..." Had heard enough bad puns that they came naturally? Was thinking about Cat Noir a lot today? What was wrong with her?! But Ms. Mendeleiev came in, and Marinette was spared from finishing her sentence.
"Where did your stutter go?" Alya whispered, as soon as the teacher's back was turned.
Marinette bent low over her notebook, pretending to be engrossed in the class. Where had her stutter gone? She'd held a normal conversation. And told him a cat pun?! She dug her pencil too hard into her paper and ripped a hole in it.
The worst part was how terrible she didn't feel when Adrien – her Adrien – had agreed she and Cat Noir would be great together.
I'm just excited about tonight, Marinette reasoned. I wasn't giving Adrien my full attention.
As soon as she realized this meant she had been distracted from Adrien by thoughts Cat Noir, she shut down that line of thinking, claimed it must have been due to a serious lack of sleep, and forced herself to pay attention to the class. She was only mildly successful. At the end of the day, her pages were half filled with notes and half with doodles of green eyes and black masks.
She hid them all from Alya.
Ten o'clock could not come fast enough. Marinette's poor partner had been so sad the last time she'd seen him, but she was about to change that (she hoped). A full 30 minutes before she needed to, Marinette was ready to leave.
"Isn't this a little early?" Tikki asked.
"Well, yeah." Marinette took her phone out of her pocket. Everything was set, so why wait? "But he always beats me out there. I want to be first for once. Spots on." Careful not to drop her phone and the slip of paper she had prepared, Ladybug rushed to the Eiffel Tower.
Even as early as she was, Cat Noir still got there before her.
"Ladybug!" he yelled, waving. "Aww! Couldn't wait to see me again?"
"Something like that," she said, a blush already rising. What was with her today? It wasn't like she had a crush on him! They were just friends! "Surprise!" Ladybug pulled out her phone and showed him the app she had found, pushing it into his face.
"What?"
"Texting!" she said, pulling her phone back and handing him the paper. "It's what friends do instead of talking!"
He examined the string of numbers she'd handed him. "You- you're giving me your number?" He looked guarded, like he didn't trust what she was saying. "You said that's too dang-"
"It is, but look!" She held up her phone again. "It's not my real number. It's a texting app. You can download, too. And we can set special ringtones, and bury them in folders so no one will see them, and password-protect them AND we can talk in code, so it always stays secure."
"I think that might be overkill." Cat Noir was quiet and still, staring down at the paper in his hands.
Ladybug felt suddenly self-conscious. "Sorry this is kind of a lame surprise. I want to be here for you, but sharing identities is still too risky." She was not about to admit that she had considered that, if only briefly.
"Lame?" he asked, looking up. "Do I have permission to text you whenever I want?" As soon as she nodded, he said, "Then this is the best gift I've ever received!" He dove in for a hug and spun her around. "You might regret saying I can text whenever I want."
"Oh, I'm sure I will."
He set her down, but gave her one last squeeze before letting go.
"Rules!" she said, already missing his warmth. "We at least have to have a code and nicknames for each other. My best friend likes to stick her nose into everything."
"Right," Cat Noir said, suddenly all business. "I'd like you to name my contact either 'Hot Stuff' or 'Eye Candy.' 'Dreamboat' is also acceptable."
Ladybug made a show of looking him up and down. Then, in the most unimpressed tone she could manage, she said, "Well, that's too bad for you, isn't it?"
"C'mon! You know it's true!"
"Nope."
Yup.
There was no way she would ever say it out loud, but the truth was undeniable: Cat Noir was very good-looking. She had to force her mind back to the conversation in order to distract herself from the temptation of checking him out again.
"There's two reasons we're doing this," she said. "One, it'll be easier to coordinate patrols and warn each other about akumas."
"Ooh! I have an idea for our secret code," Cat Noir said, his ears perking up. "Want to hear it?"
"No, I don't think I do."
"Okay, here goes. When there's an akuma, I'll text you that your boyfriend-" He pointed to himself, so there could be no doubt as to who he meant. "-needs some kissing action, and the monster's location is our secret rendezvous point." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
What would that be like? she wondered. Slipping away to see him, hiding from passersby all over the city, squeezing into too-small spaces together, kissing him when no one was watching, letting him tangle his claws in her hair, his lips trailing along her jaw-
OKAY! That's enough of that!
With effort, she wrenched herself back to reality, where Cat Noir was waiting for a witty retort.
"Y-yeah, and I'll put your contact as 'Man of My Dreams' and gush about how much I love you, and my friends will TOTALLY lay off. Good plan." Smooth.
"Oh, I like that idea, My Lady. We should do that."
"I'm going to name you... The Dork."
"Aw!"
He pouted, but she didn't let herself think about the lip that he stuck out. "Second thing!" she said. "You are going to text me when something's bothering you. Got it? Let me know if you need me, because I know you're not as much of a tough guy as you pretend to be."
Cat Noir huffed dramatically and tried (and failed) to look indignant. "I'm super tough! I should be offended."
"And yet you're not," she said. "Seriously, if you need a hug or something, just ask."
"So the code," he said thoughtfully.
"I already disagree with whatever you're about to say."
"If it's not an emergency, then 'your boyfriend needs some hugging action.' An akuma remains 'kissing action.' Sound good?" He leaned in playfully, lips puckered, but let Ladybug push his face away.
"Don't get your hopes up," she said, Cat Noir's face still smushed against her palm. "I'm going to tell everyone I have to leave suddenly because my neighbor needs a babysitter."
He let out a muffled, "Aw, man! Babysitting?! That's what you think of me?" His breath tickled her hand.
"I'm happy you're taking this so well." And that he was happy again, as she'd hoped. They sat down and talked and laughed together for a while longer, and Ladybug felt that all was right in the world. Their dynamic seemed to finally be returning to normal – with the occasional addition of her furious blushing that she couldn't figure out. The only logical conclusion had to be wrong.
When Ladybug returned to her room, everything was dark and peaceful. Her parents had been in bed for ages. Even the street outside was quiet. She hadn't realized they'd been out there for that long. It was the second time that week she'd lost track of while with him.
Within seconds of detransforming and climbing into bed, her phone buzzed, just as she'd expected. Marinette checked it happily.
The Dork: I don't know if I like my code anymore.
Marinette: I know I'm going to regret it, but I'm asking you why anyway.
The Dork: Because how am I supposed to ask you for real kisses if 'kiss' is already a code word?  😩 😭
Marinette: GOOD NIGHT, DORK.
Without him there, it was easier to push away thoughts of secret rendezvous and stolen moments alone.
As she snuggled under her covers, her last conscious thought was of Adrien, and wondering how it was possible that she hadn't though of him once since seeing him at school.

Author's note: Marinette made that joke in class completely on her own. I had NOTHING to do with it. I just got to that part in the draft and she's like, "Hey, writer, I'm making a joke to Adrien about how bad Cat Noir smells. You'd better think of a pun that makes it make sense." And I just rolled with it. (And she definitely set his ringtone to either "Nyan Cat" or "I'm a Kitty Cat.") There should be one more (short) chapter this week!
