#bc SOME people think it’s more important to let their dog run around off leash
Text
I think this summer, in addition to building a new catio, I’m gonna try to get the cats out hiking more. This is just a big vent/ramble under the cut.
The last couple years we haven’t been out as much. A part of it is just mental health making it hard to Do Stuff, but also I’m apprehensive about going hiking on my own with the cats. I’m not really concerned about coyotes or bears or elk, but the prevalence of off leash dogs on trails still makes me afraid for my and the cats’ safety. I can do everything right and responsible with my cats and still have someone’s dog chase or attack us— both have happened before and will again if we go out. It’s just frustrating that other people’s irresponsibility and selfishness keeps me from enjoying time outside with my pet. I can only control myself- I can’t control someone’s “””friendly””” dog that is “good” off leash and *only* chases people for 15ft before going back to its owner. It’s not barking and chasing for 50 ft, so it’s fine right?
All that being said, I think I might try to do what I can to better prepare myself and my cats for encounters like that and actually get out again. I can tell Dave misses hiking and being outside, and my mental health has gotten worse staying indoors all the time.
Cat wise I’m gonna try to train the cats’ recall better this spring, and maybe invest in some shorter leashes to keep them closer by on walks. I was also considering getting a hard-shelled cat backpack and seeing if they’d like cycling. Dogs can’t kill them if we’re on a bike…

How To Keep Your Demon Entertained At A Walmart
Congratulations! You've earned yourself a few demon date days up in the human world! But what's this? You have errands to run? Well, we all know these demons can't function without you for more than five minutes....but an entity that's thousands of years old gets a little bored and restless in the hyper-market wasteland of a Walmart...
Nowdateables: coming soon!
Lucifer
if you don't want him getting passive-aggressive about how you should've done this before he got here (yeesh Lucifer some of us have jobs or responsibilities that we can't shove onto our siblings for a day to see our precious mc) then you better be ready to make conversation
definitely not the type to allow you to even think about sending him off so you can get stuff done. he's not even that bothersome, so he'll get offended if you even think about it, but also wouldn't you rather keep him around to reach the top shelves?
basically if you don’t want to keep Lucifer entertained, you have to be the one he needs to keep entertained
do that thing where you roll around on the cart like a skateboard and he’ll be trying to put a stop to it immediately
put random things in your cart that he knows you don’t need and let him take it out and put it back where it belongs
stare him in the eyes as you put that party size brownie mix in your cart then speed walk away. he will come up from an aisle in front of you and silently pluck the box out and take it back. he will come back to see seven boxes of corn dogs and momentarily considers breaking up with you
does not need a treat as a bribe, but will definitely forgive your antics if you bought something from the bakery to snack on as you go home (especially if you did it without him noticing, considering the eagle eye he’s had to have on your cart the whole time)
just don’t have the nerve to complain about the crumbs in your car after that
Mammon
I would say to ask him to scan the area looking for dropped coins on the floor but he'd probably knock down shelves trying to look beneath them so....maybe don't?
also please keep an eye on him or he WILL be shoplifting. human jail is (probably?) a step up from demon jail but like. let's aim for no jail, ok mammon?
instead, give him a pre-portioned off list and tell him it's like a scavenger hunt. he'll scamper off to explore the walmart and his duty to keeping you happy has like a 70% chance of preventing him from stealing anything too important
make sure the stuff you put on the list is kind of hard to find but not too hard. you wanna keep him occupied without risking him freaking out because he can't find this super specific spice you want
either that or only make a really vague list like. tell him you need bread and he'll stand in the bread aisle trying to remember if you like white bread or whole wheat bread until you come to retrieve him
bring money for a treat. if it's near st patrick's day go in the seasonal aisle and hope they have chocolate gold coins
he's not too hard to deal with, but figuring out what's sneaky enough to put on the list is a chore of its own so going by yourself is less work anyway
Leviathan
taking him to walmart was your final fatal mistake
seriously? he has to go in? you could have just left him in the car!!
you take him intending to have him pick out some normie snacks (since you don't have any limited edition whatever-the-fucks in your house right now) but he looks so uncomfortable you make a detour towards the games
just leave him to play on the trial device and go pick out a few things for him to choose from when you circle back to him
arguable the least stressful trip for you until you have to wade through the pool of kids surrounding him and watching him play when it's time to pay and leave
you won't have to buy him anything but you will have to wait for him to finish the level he's on before he lets you drag him away. and he'll probably complain a little bit in the car about how terrible it was to go in in the first place, which a treat would help minimize.
so i guess just pick your battles with this one?
Satan
satan is a refined individual with startling amounts of self control. he does not need pointed in the direction of the books. he can entertain himself on a grocery run.
point him in the direction of the books anyway
their selection is always small (because it’s a walmart not a bookstore) and half of it is children’s anyway so he’ll probably wander off real quick
satan doesn’t need to be entertained, no, he’s past that. he needs to be kept on a leash
you have no way of knowing where he’ll end up. sometimes he’ll be somewhere that makes sense like in the stationary but sometimes you’ll find him staring at the paint samples like it’s a masterpiece in a museum or over by the fishing hooks reading up about local fish populations and how to get a fishing license and you’re just like “???? i’ve been looking for you for twenty minutes???? don’t give me facts about salmon???”
will ask you why you need to buy tires in the same place you get your food. isn’t that suspicious? what do they specialize in?
answer him only with the word “bargains” and he’ll stop asking once he understands or gets annoyed
you don’t need to buy him a treat unless he finds a book he wants. then come on mc, you dragged him out here and you’re NOT gonna let him get this one thing??
Asmodeus
he's fine with making an errand run with you actually!
he's up on the human world for you baby, just make sure to hold his hand so he feels appreciated
asmo is far too entertained with the concept of a walmart for his own good. don't go with him if you want it to be a quick trip because he'll want to go around the whole store
thinks at first that it's kind of nifty that humans just dump all the things they need in one store but is quickly turned off from the novelty when he realizes how short the distance is between the clothes and the nearest package of raw chicken
even if the selection is small, he will want to spend time in the makeup department. probably goes on rants about how he can’t imagine this quality of product is good for your skin
will still buy nail polish though if you let him
overall? not terrible to have around, but make sure you don’t have anywhere to be in the next hour when you take him
Beelzebub
pack a gallon bag of cheerios like he's a toddler and get ready to fucking book it in and out of there
you know how you should never go grocery shopping when you’re hungry? what were you thinking bringing Beel around??
another brother who’s good for reaching tall shelves if you need it
Beel also has this talent where he can just list off the ingredients you need if you happen to forget your list
if you want, you can distract him momentarily by just throwing out random dishes and he’ll get the ingredients right every time (even though they’re human dishes!!) but you’ll end up giving him like five different cravings by the time you leave
only take him if you want to speedrun grocery shopping, because he will start eating food you haven’t paid for if you take too long
bring extra money for that too, just in case he gets caught :(
Belphegor
bringing belphie to walmart isn't a matter of keeping him entertained moreso than keeping him awake
which you will inevitably fail to do
so even if you only need like three things, get him a cart and let him fall into the basket
he’ll try to stay awake (and he’ll give very self-satisfied grins to the people who stare at him ((and especially the ones who say “wow i wanna do that”))) but he can only fight off his sin for so long
stop by the blankets so he can stuff a few soft things in (bc he’s gotta be uncomfortable cramped in the little basket) and he’ll make himself a tiny nest
the good news is you can put anything on top of him and he won’t complain. just don’t drop any gallons of milk on him or anything that’ll wake him up
go to a self check-out so the employees don’t yell at you
after you put your groceries in your car, just dump his ass on the pavement. he’ll forgive you if you bought him the blankets.

This isn’t a request (or maybe it is) but would you ever consider writing a part 2 to that aizawa and shinsou family bonding fic👀 and do you have any plans to write more zuko?? Bc I didn’t really see him like that but after your mechanic fic I couldn’t get him off my mind for weeks.
Anyway I love all your fics!!! Thank you so much for writing them and sharing them with us<3
I have several requests for a continuation of that, so maybe!
As for Zuko, I rlly want to write more of him lol he’s just so inch resting.
Very awkward with interpersonal relationships, but has the ability to be suave if he’s not thinking too hard about it and just acting on impulse. Pre-redemption Zuko is entitled, has anger issues, no grasp on healthy boundaries, sadistic, a brat, etc etc.
Like you lose your dog, worried sick about the poor thing. You decide to put up posters around your dingy neighborhood, a picture and your phone number attached below.
Your mood improves when you get a text that night, as soon as you get home from putting up all the “missing” posters.
Hey.
Your dog is missing? I saw you putting up posters.
Immediately you respond, hope blooming.
Yes! Have you seen him? I’m really worried. Thanks for contacting me btw.
There’s a few moments of waiting until the stranger responds.
I’ve seen him around. You need someone to help you find him?
So the stranger doesn’t have your dog. It’s disappointing, but you probably shouldn’t have expected your puppy to be found within minutes of you putting up the posters.
If you wouldn’t mind keeping an eye out, that’d be wonderful. Thank you so much! I’m (Y/N).
I know.
Confusion furrows your brow before the next message dings through.
You put your name on the poster.
My names Zuko.
-----
A day passes without any news, then two. On the third day, “Zuko” texts you again.
Have you found your dog yet?
You tell him (you’re pretty sure it’s a guy) no, and the stranger gives you his condolences. Feeling a bit awkward, not sure if you should respond or let the conversation drop, you turn the questioning back to the stranger.
Do you live in this area?
Yeah. Down by the supermarket on 4th and Sinclair.
That makes sense - that’s one of the first places you’d put up a poster. No wonder this guy texted you so soon.
That’s a nice area. I’m closer to the park... I think my dog might’ve wandered off into there.
You should take some treats with you and walk through that area. Call his name maybe?
Yeah, maybe.
The more you thought about the suggestion, the more appealing it sounded. perhaps it would work? It was barely 4pm, still plenty of daylight left for you to walk around for a bit.
So that’s what you did, wandering through the park with a bag of treats, lowly calling your dog’s name as you kept a sharp eye out for anything furry.
There weren’t many people out, but the ones you did encounter barely paid you any attention.
Except for a man, seated on a bench, his eyes following your movements. It was creeping you out - no matter where you moved you felt the prickle on the back of your neck that someone was looking at you.
Maybe he was just curious as to why you were walking around with a bag of dog treats, a leash, but no dog.
You were paying more attention to scanning the underbrush than the stranger, so it made you jump when he cleared his throat a few steps behind you, having moved from the bench.
“Oh, Jesus Christ-” You whirled around, a hand on your chest as adrenaline surged through you.
The man frowned. “Sorry, wasn’t trying to scare you. Are you looking for your dog?” He looked... unique, a large, angry scar decorating the right side of his face, eye slitted and milky on that side, almost hidden by his shaggy black hair.
You nodded, and the man spoke again. “By any chance, is your name (Y/N)? I saw your poster.”
Perking up, you took a step forward. “Yes! Yeah, that’s me, have you seen my dog? Do you know where he is?”
The man shook his head, clearing his throat again. “No, uhm... I was the person who texted you - Zuko.”
Oh.
It felt a bit... odd, knowing that this man had texted you, sought you out, met you in the park that he suggested you go looking in. Was he stalking you? Or was he just trying to help you find your dog?
How were you supposed to respond to him?
Zuko beat you to it. “I’ve been looking for him, no luck though. He seems like a good dog.”
“He is.” You agree. Your dog was the best, always made you feel safe whenever you went out for walks, guarded your apartment, stayed alert and ready while you slept. “Thank you for looking for him, you don’t have to.”
“I don’t mind.”
More awkward silence.
Shifting your weight on your feet, you sealed up the bag of treats. “okay, um, well it’s getting dark, I think I’m going to head home now.”
“I can walk with you.”
“Nah, I’ll be fine.” You assured the strange man, flashing a smile. He was too... friendly for your taste. You weren’t sure you felt comfortable with him knowing where you lived.
When you got home, your phone dinged as you locked your door. it was Zuko.
Sorry for scaring you tonight. I didn’t think you’d actually go to the park. I like to sit there and feed the ducks, so I’ve seen you and your dog a couple of times. I’m not trying to be weird.
That was honestly almost kind of sweet. You could visualize it, the tall man sitting on the bench and throwing seeds to the ducks that lived in the park, minding his own business as people passed by.  Maybe the man was just a bit socially awkward? You could understand that.
No worries. Nice meeting you!
-----
He kept texting you, checking in, asking about your dog, asking about you.
Zuko seemed like a nice guy, if not a little awkward. Maybe a little lonely, but wasn’t everyone?
You learned that he lived by himself, had moved here a couple years ago, and that he liked the town. Friendly people, good weather, nice shops and local stores.
Weeks had passed since your dog had gone missing, and you found yourself getting more and more sad, sinking into the feeling like goop.
And then Zuko texted.
You should come over.
Your mind raced - he wouldn’t be texting you unless it was important, it was nighttime, you had learned the man wasn’t overly fond of visitors.
Zuko? What’s up? Have you found my dog?
A pause, two minutes before his next text came through.
Just come over.
You huffed, frustrated, excited.
Please just tell me, do you have my dog?
Five minutes of silence.
Yes.
-----
The excitement you felt was making you jittery, hands almost shaking as you climbed up the stairs to Zuko’s apartment.
It wasn’t what you were expecting. You thought he lived by the supermarket, and technically he did, but it was a ways away. Zuko lived in a run down, dingy complex a few streets over, and you tried not to judge, but it wasn’t exactly the most savory of neighborhoods.
Really, you weren’t super jazzed to be coming to his place, not so late at night, not alone. But he had found your dog, said he didn’t have a leash nor a way of getting him to you. Said he didn’t mind you coming over so late.
You didn’t feel comfortable, but it’d be okay.
Except your dog was nowhere in sight when Zuko welcomed you inside.
It was dark, only the light of his laptop illuminating the small living space - a studio apartment.
“Zuko? Where’s-”
“Your dog’s probably been dead for weeks.”
You froze.
“You’re focused on a lost cause. I don’t think he’s coming back.”
What’s going on? Why did he have you come-
“Zuko, you’re scaring me.”
The man in question is between you and the door - the door he’s just locked. Your heart starts to beat faster in your chest.
“I’ve watched you walk him every day for the past year, you always take the same route in the park. How have you not noticed me? It’s not like I’m trying  to avoid your attention. It’s insulting. Do you not like my scar? Is that why you always, always ignore me?”
His voice is level, but you can feel the irritation seeping from him, feel it infect you with fear.
“What? I don’t know what you’re talking abo-”
“I’ve noticed. You’re very absentminded, aren’t you? Is that why you need a dog  with you to protect you? I could’ve snapped you up at anytime since he’s been gone.”
Zuko crossed his arms, leaned back against the door. You didn’t like this, didn’t like how dark it was, what Zuko was saying, how his one good eye was gazing at you with a smug aura.
“I really wasn’t going to even bother you. You’re just some pretty little eye candy I get to see everyday. But then you put up those posters, and your number and name were right there. Couldn’t stop myself.”
The man rolled his eyes. “Plus, you’re real easy.”
He hadn’t moved from the door, but now he straightened, rolling out his neck, taking a step towards you. “This’ll be fun. Hope you don’t scream too loud and get me another noise complaint.”

Hiiii, i was wondering if i could request some vlad king and gang orca taking care of their s/o pets. Like if the reader was out of town and asked them to take care of their dogs👉👈 i feel like vlad is such a good doggy dad that the dogs play together and i feel like gang orca would be lost but doing his best and if he was taking care of a cat i like to think it would love being around him because cats love fish and he would just always have his s/o cat cuddling on his lap. Im sorry for ranting lol i love your work you're doing great💕
awwehehe this is so cute since you mentioned dogs for vlad and cats for kugo that's what i went with! also indulged myself and included kugo/ jiro/shoji content bc that seems like such a GOOD FUNNY AND WHOLESOME trio and i wanted more content than we got smh
Sekijiro Kan/Vlad King: "Hey Sek, I need a huge favor.” You look up from your phone at the taller man who is currently scrunched into the corner of his couch scrutinizing a piece of paper with really terrible handwriting on it.  “Sounds dangerous.” He replies without looking up and you snort dropping to the cushion beside him.  “Only a little, but I think you’re good for it.”  “Alright then, so what’s the favor?” His eyes flick up to you. “I need to go visit a friend out of town.” You sigh, “she had a baby last month, I used to work with her husband and she asked if I wanted to spend some time back home with her for her birthday next week, I should be about five days.” You rest your hands on his knees, “so while I’m out there..would you mind watching Kilo for me? I hate to leave him behind but It’d be a pain to travel so far with him I know he hates trains.”  “That’s a huge favor?” He raises an eyebrow at you, “sure I can watch him. I bet they’ll get along fine.” He glances at his own dog curled up under a chair.  “But only If you can figure out what the hell Monoma tried to write here.”  For all intents and purposes, Kilo was a good dog, a little stupid, but a good dog nonetheless. To be honest, he’s really honored you trust him with the task, you’re the only person he’s met that seems to love your own dog as much as he loves his. Plus it also meant that Kilo had to like him a fair bit which was also a relief, as a dog owner he knew any potential partner was only as compatible with him as they were with his dog, and his dog loved you, he was sure you felt the same way, any partner that Kilo didn’t get along with would be impossible for you to get along with, he found it more than a little reassuring that Kilo seemed to enjoy his company. Past all that, and maybe even most important this was a perfect opportunity to introduce the two dogs. He was sure it was no secret to you but this wasn’t exactly a casual fling, with the way things were going it felt pretty inevitable that he’d ask if you wanted to move in together; but if the two didn’t get along well then..that’d be an issue. Though he was sure if things got tested out now you’d have some time to at least try to get the dogs to be comfortable with each other or hopefully think of some sort of workaround. In his eyes, this was a blessing for him as much as it was a favor to you.  “Are you sure you don’t mind keeping Kilo at your place?” Sekijiro is slightly embarrassed to say how early he arrived at this park, he wanted to tire his own dog out before introducing the pair, he’d advised you to do the same so you were walking to the park, you'd called him on your way.  “Of course I don’t mind babe.” He tosses a ball from his seat on the bench and watches his pudgy bulldog trot over to it, “it’ll be easier this way, right?”  “Yeah that’s true, I just don’t want Kilo wrecking any of your stuff, he always means well but he gets into trouble sometimes-”  “Don’t worry about it, he’ll be a model student by the time you get back.” He hears you laugh into the receiver at that. “I don’t doubt that, I’m almost there, I’ll see you in a few okay?”  “Yeah sure thing, can’t wait.” You huff out another laugh at him before hanging up.  “Sekijiro!” You chirp brightly at the sight of the man, he’s too busy taking you in to respond. Kilo’s trotting a foot or so in front of you on his leash, that old joke about dogs looking reminiscent of their owners was certainly true in your case, you both looked delighted to see him and beyond that, you were practically glowing... Maybe he just had a thing for people who were good with animals.  “Hey Sek?” You lean down in front of him.  “Hey! He welcomes Kilo between his knees, the mixed breed was a bit larger than his dog who was currently bounding back to him with a ball and sufficient slobber hanging from his mouth, the size difference in mind though Kilo was a hell of a lot less bulky, he was practically streamlined, Sekijiro had seen how fast the dog could run with his own eyes. He could see why you took so much pride in the dog, he was definitely beautiful his coat was long, wavy, and shiny and he had big blue eyes and admittedly the cutest pink nose and spotted tongue Sekijiro had ever seen.  “Thanks so much again for doing this I really-” An excited bark pulls your attention downwards, “look who it is!” You sing, crouching down to pet the panting dog, “you sure look tired. Sekijiro is working you too hard.” You frown at him as he hops up to rest his front paws on your thighs. “Don’t be ridiculous.” Sekijiro laughs, “but he is worn out, I guess Kilo is too though.” Kilo’s head is on his knee, the larger dog is panting too.  They seem to notice each other, and approach with a lazy curiosity. They sniff around each other for a bit but after that return to their respective activities, seemingly unbothered by each other and the proximity of the other dog to their owner. Kilo didn’t mind your cooing at Vlad’s dog who didn’t seem to mind Kilo’s head in his owner's lap. With that little bit of reassurance, you hand him Kilo’s leash and a bag of his stuff; food dish, some toys and treats and the like, and then you part ways after promising to call him when you get to your home town safely.  All in all the coming days are pretty uneventful, Kilo joins them on their daily walks, eats at the same time with no trouble, finds a comfortable place to sleep each night.  “Is Kilo alright?” Your voice is nervous in the receiver.  “He’s better than babe, seriously they’re getting along great.”  “God that’s such a relief.” You sigh, “the pictures you’ve sent are cute..gosh I miss him.” You pout a little. “Gee I miss you too babe.” He mutters it with a playful edge to his voice and you gasp,  “I was going to say I miss you too but forget it!”  “don’t be mean!” He complains back, “I was kidding! And anyway I miss you. How’s it been out there?”  You go off on your usual tangents before ending up back at square one.  “Oh! I called you for a reason actually!” You remember, “I’ll be a little bit late getting back on Sunday, one of the trains is going to be down so I’m taking a later one, I should be back around midnight now would you mind-”  “Of course not babe, I’ll get you from the station so-”  “No no! It’s okay you’ve already done so much that’s not what I was going to ask! I just wanted to be sure you wouldn’t mind keeping Kilo around for the extra time...I can get a taxi, seriously don’t wait up for me!”  “Well just come to my place when you get back right?”  “I wouldn’t wanna wake you up-”  “It’s been way too long since I saw you last, so I don’t mind, if you won’t let me pick you up from the station at least come right here.”  “You’re convincing.” You laugh a little, embarrassment heating up your face, “I guess that’s fine with me then...” A distant sounding voice pulls you away from the receiver, “Sek I have to go, I’ll call you again soon though!”  “Don’t worry about anything babe.” He reassures you as you hang up.  There is one minor spat over a rope toy but it’s resolved easily enough and the pair seem to get on swimmingly after that, even sharing a couch cushion and occasionally resting their heads on each other, they become incredibly fast friends, which is probably the biggest relief on the planet to Sekijiro. Watching the two of them play tug of war in his living room or witnessing their schemes to get leftovers off the counter on Thursday night essentially cement his vision of a future with you.  If you were being totally honest it was embarrassing how attractive you found Sekijiro getting along with your dog to be, you’d never got the obsession of handsome guys holding cute babies but seeing some of the photos he’d sent to you over the almost 6 days you were gone made butterflies crop up in your stomach the likes of which you’d only felt when he was actively trying to fluster you...but this seemed totally unintentional. To say you were incredibly eager to go home and see him (jump his bones) felt like an understatement. It’s past midnight when you get back and the place is mostly dark, you see a vaguely bulldog shaped blob partially under a blanket on the couch, but the snoring it emits gives away it’s identity easily. You leave your bag at the door and venture into the apartment, poking your nose into the bedroom.  Of course, Sekijiro is there, dead asleep on his back, and who’s with him but Kilo, his head resting on the blood hero’s chest one of his hands resting on top of it.  “Oh Vlad-” You coo, you practically sing it at him.  “Wha-whatsitwhat-” He rubs his face as he picks his head up, “oh, hey welcome back ‘s good to see you, missed you-”  “You’re so sweet-” You’re already at the side of his bed, leaning down and kissing him.  “What’s-” Sekijiro takes a minute to process everything before he realizes it’s Kilo’s head on his chest making you act like this.  “Oh no way, he’s been a total angel-”  “I’m so glad he likes you so much-” You murmur it between kisses, to his lips and various other spots on his cheeks and jaw, “you guys are adorable together.”  “I’m glad you think so-” He cuts himself off with a yawn and turns into your lips, kissing you again before speaking, “you weren’t kidding about that late train huh? It’s almost 1 AM, you must be exhausted, there’s plenty of room for you in here so come on.”
Kugo Sakamata/Gang Orca: “Hey, Kugo...” You approach him from behind and wrap your arms around his shoulders, leaning against the back of the chair he’s sat in.  “Yes?” One hand comes up to cover your forearm the other stays dutifully at work.  “You love me, right?” You rest your head against his and he pricks up at the inquisition.  “Of course I do, why would you ask a question like that? Is something wrong?”  The way his hand subtly squeezes your arm isn’t lost on you.  “Hmm..no nothing's wrong.” You lean into him and close your eyes as he sighs good-naturedly. “Then what? Did you just want to hear me say it?” He leans back into you, “I guess I could entertain that...” His thumb swipes a long stroke over the skin of your forearm, “I love you, dear.” He can feel you prickle up at that behind him. “I love you too Kugo.” You squeeze him tighter and he huffs out a quiet laugh. “I’m glad to hear it. Now is that all you needed?” He puts his pen down to bring his other hand up to your arms, “I’m a bit busy. You’re welcome to stay there if you like though I just need to finish some paperwork and make a few phone calls. After that, we can do whatever you like for the night.”  “Well, now that you mention it there was just one more thing. I’ll be fast I promise.” Your hand slides underneath his lapel and into his jacket.  “Don’t worry I can make a bit of time for you then, what’s the matter?” You make eye contact with him through his darkened computer screen.  “My boss invited me to this big conference next week, it’s a pretty great opportunity and I could meet some important people..” You explain, biting your lip, “it could be really good for me to branch out even she thinks so, and getting some more experience will be great, and it’s pretty close to my hometown so I figured I'd stop in and see some old friends after I got done..It’d be about 5 or so days and I’d really like to go.” You sigh and he seems more than a little confused based on his reflection.   “That does sound like a great opportunity for you, you’re right..what’s the problem then? Do you need advice about something?” His confusion doesn’t quell even as you kiss his temple. “I probably will later but for now the problem is Luna.” “Your cat?” Kugo piques, “why is she a problem?”  You sigh, “if I’m not around no one will be there to feed her and make sure she stays out of trouble.”  “Oh is that it? That’s no problem at all dear, I can look after her for you. Is that what you were going to ask me?”  “You don’t mind?” You perk up, “I don’t want to trouble you...and I know I could just as easily leave a key under my mat and have a neighbor do it but I trust you so much more and-”  “It’s no trouble, really.” Kugo laughs a little, "I pass by your apartment all the time on patrols, I’m sure the interns won't mind if I make a stop and head up to check on her every now and again.”  “Oh! You can totally bring them up if they like cats!” He laughs at that too.  “Was that all?”  “Mhm.” You nod and use the motion to nestle into him a bit, “Thank you Kugo.”  ”It’s really my pleasure. Leave it to me, alright?”  All things considered, Kugo’s also pretty honored to be trusted with the task of watching your pet cat, he knows how much you love and worry about her, you dote on her all the time, and if the copious amount of photos you send him of her say anything she’s definitely your pride and joy. For the most part, you spent the bulk of your time with Kugo at his own home, due largely to the fact that he was larger than average and he existed a fair bit more comfortably there, but he paid you visits in your apartment from time to time and had met the cat, she seemed to like him plenty which was a relief as well.  You stop at Kugo’s before you leave and give him a list of things to double-check when he stops in, though you reassure him that there shouldn’t be any problems, Luna was pretty independent and mellow she didn’t like going outside so he didn’t have to worry about her escaping or anything like that. He tries to stop in at least 3 times a day, before, during, and after patrols, he knows that’s probably overkill, you spend all day at work and have never had an issue but he hates the idea of something happening to the feline on his watch. Plus even if he wouldn’t readily admit it he saw this as a perfect time to get on the cat's good side, you said she already loved him but he wasn’t convinced. He knew how much you loved her and any vision of your future that he had always featured the mellow feline so in his mind it was imperative they got on well. On top of that, he was glad you trusted him with something as small and delicate as Luna, she fits pretty comfortably in his hand and was as fragile as she was petit, but you never seemed off-put by the idea of him holding her or petting her, in fact, you encouraged it. The way you even wanted him near her when you weren’t around to supervise put him at ease about his strength and size, he always worried about breaking delicate things, but that wasn’t a worry you seemed to echo.  “Is something going on in that building?”  Shoji looks up at your complex as he pauses by it, “you’re stopping here a lot since yesterday.”  “Huh? Oh. Actually no... well nothing of importance to you. I’m...catsitting.” Jiro holds her breath the hold in the laugh, “Catsitting?”   “Yes...my partner is away at a work conference, the cat in question is theirs.” Kugo nods, “if you like cats you can come up and meet her, she’s actually quite friendly.”   Kugo was pretty used to Luna at this juncture, but whenever other people met her it was easy to see why you were so proud of her, she was quite the stunning cat, a long dark grey and black coat with big green eyes and a swishing tail, her paws were colored as if she was wearing boots.  “Wow...she’s really pretty, I’ve never seen a cat like this.” Jiro was crouched on the ground, stroking her neck.  “I was surprised too.” Kugo confesses, “they found her in a box on the side of the road about a year before we met. She was only a kitten then. Her name’s Luna.”  She seemed to like the pair equally alternating between them, rubbing against their legs and shuffling her head into their palms.  “She is very friendly.” Shoji remarks as she purrs at him, attempting to climb into his lap.  “She’s good at getting into trouble, but she usually means well. You can stay with her for a minute.” He sets off to double-check the usual; food, water, litterbox, the loose window that she’s always wiggling open despite having no desire to climb out of it, he waters a few plants and straightens up anything she knocked over as well. When he returns she's overturned on Shoji’s lap.  “You’re getting along well.” He swipes a pillow she’d knocked over up and replaces it on the couch.  “She’s really sweet!” Jiro is scratching her stomach. “I’m glad to hear it.”   “Hey..sorry if this is too personal or whatever but I didn’t know you were.. dating someone... We didn’t snoop or anything though!” She swears, holding both hands up, the cat looks disgruntled at the loss of attention.  “It’s alright I trust you.” Kugo waves her off, “Luna looks too comfortable anyways, you’ve clearly been petting her this whole time.” He adds with a small chuckle. At the sound of her name, she rolls over and winds around his feet, circling through his ankles and pawing at his pants until he lifts her up.  “To answer you though yes I am seeing someone.” He holds Luna with one hand, his ring and middle finger scratching the patch of grey fur on her chest.  “Are they a hero too?” She wonders, straightening up.  “No...no they’re not, I’m not very public about this sort of thing.”  Shoji contemplates that, “they have a nice apartment.”  “That is true, it’s a good job, and they do have a pretty keen eye for decorating” He agrees, looking around amicably.  “Have you guys been together for a long time?” Jiro blurts out before feeling color float up to her cheeks, “sorry I don’t mean to be rude... I just never pictured you like this I guess I’m curious-”  “It’s okay, most people don’t, and yes, we’ve been together a while now.” Kugo raises a hand to calm her, “but like I said before I’m not very public about things like this which is why you wouldn’t have heard..though either way, even when we do go out together... most people don’t assume I do that sort of thing, and to be frank, we aren’t the most...visually compatible pair..” He says that with a distinct fondness in his voice and then continues, “like you said, you don’t really picture me in this sort of light, most people don’t so hero gossip tabloids tend to leave me alone for the most part, I get a fair bit of freedom when it comes to this sort of thing because of that. There are probably plenty of photos of us together out there, though people usually assume they’re my manager or a secretary or just a friend.” Luna is purring loudly in his hand, her body largely slack against his chest. He walks her over to the couch and sets her down, which she warbles angrily at, “to be honest though I prefer it this way. I’m a private person.”  “That makes sense...well, their cat sure likes you.” Shoji points and Kugo chuckles.  “I’m fond of her myself.” Kugo admits, “everything is as it should be here so we can head out again, sorry for the tangent.” He scratches Luna’s neck and sighs, “as for you I’ll be back tonight. So try to behave until then, for my sake alright?”  Jiro tries not to laugh at the sight. “I didn’t think you’d actually bring them up! Did they like her?”  You sound delighted about it over the phone that night.  “I may have knocked a few intimidation points off of myself, but yes they thought she was cute.” He was sitting with her, contemplating staying the night here. He was embarrassed to say it but this was the longest you’d spent apart in a while and despite any appearances, he had gone soft and was starting to miss you, being around your stuff was nice even if he didn’t fit too well in your bed.  “I don’t think you’re very intimidating at all.” You peep back thoughtlessly. “Well, I’d sure hope not.” He chuckles and leans against the couch, “she’s been good too I was,..expecting her to break more.”  Truthfully Kugo wasn’t sure what he was expecting, he never had pets growing up and hero work didn’t give much free time to consider one, it took a day to get comfortable with her, and even now he was watching his every step for her. “I’m glad to hear that!” You laugh, “she’s a pretty great cat isn't she?”  “I have to agree..” Kugo wouldn’t mind having her around all the time, the longer he sat on your couch and contemplated it the more he realized he wouldn't mind having the both of you around all the time. Was this some sort of emotional sign to ask you to stay with him? He’d give that more thought at a later date.  “Kugo are you listening?” “Of course I am.” He was not. You don’t seem perturbed though, chuckling and then sighing fondly, “I’m gonna go shower then call it a night, I miss you two though.”  Kugo looks down at the cat on his lap and he nods, “we miss you too. I’ll be up for a bit longer so call or text me if you need anything.”  “You shouldn’t stay up so late Kugo it’s bad for you-”  “I know, I know, I’ll turn over a new leaf when you get back.”  “Sure you will.” You snort, “I love you Kugo.”  “I love you too, I’ll see you soon.”  You wanted to see Kugo first thing when you got back but you were so exhausted that you can’t help sulking to your own place, things had gone well enough but all the commotion and travel really drained you. You were sure it wasn’t anything spending some time or even a night with Kugo couldn’t fix though. When you shoulder your door open though there’s Kugo, sitting on your couch.  “Kugo, you’re here?” He’s holding some papers in one hand, the other is holding Luna’s back, keeping her against his chest.  “I was just checking in on her but every time I tried to leave she started..making a weird noise.”  “Weird like how?” You chuckle, suddenly feeling much better.  “Sort of like screaming. But cat-like. I sat down and she clawed her way up here, then fell asleep and almost fell off, but I caught her and she hasn’t moved since.”  “And... how long ago was that?”  “What time is it?” “Half-past 6.”  “2 hours ago. I didn’t want to wake her.”  “Kugo.” You laugh and sit beside him, “you’re so sweet.” You wrap both of your arms around one of his and lean into his shoulder, “I missed you so much.”  “I missed you too.” Kugo sets the papers down on the pile by the arm of the couch, “It's sort of embarrassing but I even stayed here a few nights because of it. I can’t remember the last time I went even 2 days without seeing you.” He appreciates the way you seem to melt into him at that.  “That’s not embarrassing it’s sweet, you’re so cute Kugo...” You lean up and kiss him, “such a big softie aren’t you?”  A soft hum is his reply as you pull away, “was she any trouble? Be honest.” “I was worried at first that I’d screw it up somehow but it went fine.” He confesses as he lifts the cat off his chest and she’s sleepy and limp in his big hand, purring contentedly.  “She was acting up the 2nd day but I think she was just confused about not seeing you. Then she got used to me and was alright.”  “That’s cute..” You yawn and clamber onto his lap, “god all that traveling tired me out...you’ve been stuck here for 2 hours but I might have to trap you a little longer to take a catnap of my own. I think Luna’s onto something...” You nestle into his shoulder, grateful to feel his arms come around you.  “Don’t worry about me.” He hums as Luna curls up in the sliver of space between your bodies, “I just want to finish reading over some things. Then I'll bring you both to bed.”  “You’ll stay tonight?” You yawn again and he hums, you can tell he’s smiling even though you can’t see him. “Would you like me to?”  You nod into his shoulder, “yeah, I would...”  “Alright then I will. Now go to sleep, you need it.”

Red Mosquito - Remus is bit by Greyback
two steps ahead of him, punctures in your neck…/ Hoverin' just above your bed... (2x)/ I was bitten...must have been the devil…/ He was just paying me…/ A little visit, reminding me of his presence…
Jeremy - most of the song, Sirius
Okay so we’re going to look at the verses not the refrain for this one bc (TW su*) this song is based on an actual boy who diy died in front of his class so like no we’re not relating to that part but the “Clearly I remember/ Pickin’ on the boy/ Seemed a harmless little fuck/ But we unleashed the lion….Daddy didn't give affection, no/And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear”
Daughter - Sirius at home
Trans sirius in an abusive household………. “Mother reads aloud, child tries to understand it/Tries to make her proud/ The shades go down, it's in her head/ Painted room, can't deny that something's wrong/ Don’t call me daughter, not fit to”
Leash - Sirius and Remus’ toxic codependent love and then yelling at the establishment/people who say they’re too young going too deep too hard too fast
“Troubled souls unite/ We got ourselves tonight, oh/ I am fuel you are friends we got the means to make amends/ I am lost I'm no guide but I'm by your side/ I am right by your side….We will find a way we will find our place/ Drop the leash drop the leash/Get outta' my fuckin' face”
Why Go? - Sirius becoming disenchanted w his family
Trans Sirius too of course. She seems to be stronger/ But what they want/ Her to be is weak/ She could play pretend/ She could join the game, boy/ She could be another clone….don’t come visit/mother/ why go home?
Blood - Sirius’ family trying to make him into something he’s not
Spin me round/ Roll me over/ Fucking circus/ Stab it down/ One way needle/ Pulled so slowly/ Drains and spills/ Soaks the pages/ Fills their sponges/ It’s my blood/ It’s my blood
WMA - basically about all the big pureblood families that can get away w anything
“He won the lottery when he was born/ Took his mothers white breast to his tongue/ Do no wrong so clean cut/ Dirty his hands, it comes right off” (tw for song: police, implied police violence)
Do the Evolution - Sirius ranting abt/mocking his family
Admire me, admire my home/ Admire my son, he's my clone…./ I'll do what I want but irresponsibly/ It’s evolution, baby/ I’m a thief, I'm a liar/ There’s my church, I sing in the choir:/ (Hallelujah, hallelujah)
Bushleaguer - abt the aristocracy etc
This song is literally about George bush lmao but I love it abt the upper class
“Born on third, thinks he got a triple…./The aristocrat choir sings, "what's the ruckus?”/ The haves have not a clue/ The immenseness of suffering”
Mind your manners - You guessed it - Sirius rejecting his family
I've got an unfortunate feelin’/ I've been beaten down/I feel I don't believe/ And now the truth is coming out/ What they've taken is more than a vow/ They’ve taken your innocence/ And then they throw them on a burning fire/ All along they're sayin’/ Mind your manners
My father’s son - SIRIUS
I am my father's son,/ Yeah, too bad he was a psychopath and now I'm the next in line, , dear mother, yes, surely she's a work of art,…/Can I get a reprieve?/ This gene pool dark and deep…./Now father you're dead and gone and I'm finally free to be me,/ Thanks for all your dark gifts for which I've got no sympathy,/ I’m living in a walled-up place in the bounds of 5th symphony
Yellow Ledbetter - Sirius
Okay so 97% of the the lyrics are indecipherable when Eddie sings them but you can hear I don’t wanna stay
Go - Regulus to Sirius as he’s trying to leave
(Abuse tw) So sorry about this one yall …… .but yes I think this is regulus finally realizing that he shouldn’t have let things get so bad at home (Sirius blames him for not stepping in even tho he’s a child there’s nuance here etc) and he’s begging Sirius not to leave him here “Oh please don't go out on me don't go out on me now/ Never acted up before don't go on me now/ I swear I never took it for granted just thought of it now/ Suppose I abused you just passing it on….I pulled the covers over him shoulda' pulled the alarm/ Turned to my nemesis…Please don't go on me/ Don’t go on me/ Don’t go on me/ Don’t go on me/ please”
Rearviewmirror - Sirius running away
(Tw abuse) Time to emancipate/ I guess it was the beatings made me wise….Forced to endure/ What I could not forgive/ I seem to look away/ Wounds in the mirror waved/ It wasn't my surface most defiled
Can’t Keep - Sirius running away from home
I want to shake/ I want to wind out/ I want to leave/ This mind and shout/ I’ve lived/ All this life/ Like an ocean/ In disguise/ I don't live for ever/ You can't keep/ Me here
Hail, Hail - Remus and Sirius’ codependent strong love
A how I love you till the day I die...ah and beyond…/ are we going to the same place? If so, can I come?/ It’s egg rollin' thick and heavy...all the past we carry…
Release - Remus thinking about his dad
Remus’ dad is so full of guilt for his hand in remus’ transformations that he extracted himself from remus’ life. Remus laments here, “Oh, dear dad/ Can you see me now?/ I am myself/ Like you somehow” “I'll hold the pain/Release me” he’d would rather have a dad, guilt and all, here, than the self appointed absence but since you left me with the absence and grief and loss of it, at least release me from it, loosen your grip so I can move on.
Present Tense - Sirius and Remus talking probably laying in the forbidden forest assuaging one another’s beliefs of the gnarled beasts they think they are
BUGS - prob remus when he turns before the boys know
Bugs on my ceiling/ Crowded the floor/ Standing sitting kneeling…/ A few block the door/ And now the question’s:/ Do I kill them?/ Become their friend?/ Do I eat them?/ Do I join them?/ I’ll just stop now/ I’ll become naked/ And with the...I'll become one
Who you are - probably James at remus when he thinks he’s a big monster
Who are we?/ Who we are./ What’s your part? Who you are / You are who you are.
Save you - GOD THIS SONGG okay this is probably James @ Sirius when home life is bad and also Sirius @ Remus and also Remus @ Sirius it’s all of them @ all of them
Gonna save you fucker, not gonna lose you/ Feeling cocky and strong, can't let you go,/ Too important to me/ Too important to us, we'd be lost without you/ Baby, let yourself fall, I'm right below you now/ And fuck me if I say something you don't want to hear/ And fuck if you only hear what you want to hear/ Fuck me if I care, but I'm not leaving here/ You helped me when I was down, I'll help when you're down/ Why are you hitting yourself, c'mon hit me instead
Life Wasted - Sirius @ Reg re: leaving
I escaped it, a life wasted./ I’m never going back again…./ You're always saying you're too weak to be Strong./ You’re harder on yourself than just about Anyone/ Why swim the channel just to get this far?/ Halfway there, why would you turn around?
Severed Hand - Reg joins the death eaters
Big man stands behind an open door/ Said, leave your lady on the cement floor./ Got some kicks, want to take a ride?/ I said, yeah!/ Oh please understand I just need, my friend,/ A way a way a way home
Brain of J. - Reg and Sirius arguing after he joins the death eaters
The whole world will be different soon/ The whole world will be relieving/ You, you've been taught/ We’d been the same, now they got you in line/ Stand behind the stripes/ There will be order, so give it a good mind…./And by name/ The name they gave me/ The name I'm letting go
Deep - Regulus knows he’s in too deep
This is Regulus knowing he’s in too deep, Voldemort and the death eaters are such bad fucking people and he’s in too deep now (massive tw for this song for drugs and se*ual violence)
“Ponders his Maker, ponders his will/ in too deep/ can’t touch the bottom”
Pilate - Remus abt Sirius ;0)
Like Pilate I have a dog/ (Obeys listens kisses loves)/ Walks me out of town/ Still one's a crowd/ Making angels in the dirt/ Looking up looking all around
You Are - in love 🥰
Love is a tower/ Of strength to me/ I am the shoreline/ But you're the sea
Red Bar - the war begins
War, I’m crazy/ War I’m crazy I’m war the song is also a lil goofy so it’s maybe just like going crazy being so in it that it’s funny now
Porch - WARTIME EVERYONE @ THEIR LOVERS
It’s the war and everyone knows today could be their last day and tensions are running high in relationships and they love each other so much and need each other but snap at one another nonetheless
What the fuck is this world running to?/ You didn't leave a message/ At least I could have learned your voice one last time/ Daily minefield, this could be my time by you/ Would you hit me? Would you hit me?/ Hear my name, take a good look/ This could be the day/ Hold my hand, walk beside me
Thin Air - babes in love
There's a light, when my baby's in my arms,/ There’s a light, when the window shades are drawn…/ And I know she's reached my heart, in thin air.
All or None - More war time songs soz
Here's the selfless confession/ Leading me back to war/ Can we help that our destinations/ Are the ones we've been before?/ I still try to run on/ But it's all or none
Parting Ways - Lily @ James during the war
She knows their future's burning/ But she can smile just the same, same/ And though her mood is fine today/ There’s a fear they'll soon be parting ways
Love Boat Caption - Sirius/Remus, Lily/James, etc etc. during the war
Love boat captain/ Take the reigns and steer us towards the clear, here/ It’s already been sung, but it can't be said enough/ All you need is loveIt's an art to live with pain/ Mix the light into grey/ Lost nine friends we'll never know/ Two years ago today/ And if our lives became too long/ Would it add to our regret?…./Hold me and make it the truthThat when all is lost, there will be you
Evacuation - going into hiding
Lukin- Lily and James have to go into hiding
(Tw st*lking mention in explanation, gun mention in song) The song was written by Eddie when he was being stalked and he had to bring himself and his wife to a friend’s house for safety.
In Hiding - Lily and James are in hiding and enter Peter
No way in or out/ I turned and walked the hallways/ And pulled the curtains down…./I swallow the truth to keep from lying/ i'm no longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now/ Yeah, it's funny how things change so much/ It’s all state of mind
Once - Peter Pettigrew betraying the marauders
Literally about someone committing a mass murder. “Once upon a time I could control myself.” “Mimic whats insane.”
Around the Bend - I'm so sorry ummm but Lily to Harry on Halloween 💀
I am wishing you a well…./ I hold your head deep in my arms/ My fingertips, they close your eyes/ Off you dream, my little child/ There’s a sun around the bend/ Please forgive me, won't you, dear?/ Please forgive and let me share with you, around the bend/ You’re an angel when you sleep/ How I want your soul to keep, on and on around the bend
Garden - Sirius being taken to Azkaban
He’s just taking his fate as it comes to him.
The direction of the eye/ So misleading/ The defection of the soul/ Nauseously quick/I will walk, with my hands bound/ I will walk, with my face blood/ I will walk, with my shadow flag/ Into your garden/ Garden of stone
Even flow - IS SO VERY MUCH SIRIUS IN AZKABAN
sung from the pov of an incarcerated person waiting for life to begin again
BUGS - Sirius in Azkaban (yes I already said this abt remus but idc)
Bugs on my ceiling/ Crowded the floor/ Standing sitting kneeling…/ A few block the door/ And now the question’s:/ Do I kill them?/ Become their friend?/ Do I eat them?/ Do I join them?/ I’ll just stop now/ I’ll become naked/ And with the...I'll become one
Black - Remus lamenting about Sirius’ perceived deception
Remembering their love and how now so many of his memories are tainted (by) black and that all of this has changed him fundamentally (star imagery, “black”, “tattooed everything”)
Indifference - Sirius in grimmauld place, sirius in Azkaban
Sirius taking his home life in stride until he can leave, taking Azkaban in stride bc it doesn’t matter any way bc he believes he deserve it anyway
“Pretend I'm free to roam/ I will make my way/ Through one more day in hell/ How much difference does it make?/ How much difference does it make?/ I will hold the candle/ Till it burns up my arm/ Oh, I'll keep takin' punches/ Until their will grows tired/ Oh, I will stare the sun down/ Until my eyes go blind/ Hey, I won't change direction/ And I won't change my mind/ How much difference does it make?/ How much difference does it make?/ I’ll swallow poison, until I grow immune/ I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room”
Alive - Remus post ’81
Eddie originally wrote the song as a lament - why did I live when he didn’t? Why am I still alive?
“Is something wrong she said, of course there is, you’re still alive she said, but do I deserve to be?”
Animal - Remus after ’81 when he needs to transform alone
Feat. A throwback to being turned (so tw: abd*ction) “Torture from you to me, yeah/Abducted from the street/I'd rather be with an animal”
Nothingman - Sirius and Remus after ’81
Once divided nothing left to subtract/ Some words when spoken can't be taken back/ Walks on his own with thoughts he can't help thinking/ Future’s above but in the past he's slow and sinking…./ She once believed in every story he had to tell/ One day she stiffened took the other side/ Empty stares from each corner of a shared prison cell/ One just escapes one's left inside the well
Smile - Remus @ the marauders (except it’s after ’81 and he just thinks of them fondly)
Don't it make you smile?/ I miss you already/ I miss you always/ I miss you already/ I miss you all day/ This is how I feel/ Three crooked hearts swirls all around/ Don’t it make you smile?
In my tree - remus abt sirius after ’81
I remember him, yeah…/ I swore I knew everything, oh yeah…/ They say knowledge is a dream, yeah…/ He's growing up just like me, yeah…
Light Years - Remus abt Sirius
But now you're gone, I haven't figured out why/ I’ve come up with riddles and jokes about war/ I’ve figured out numbers and what they're for/ I’ve understood feelings and I've understood words/ But how could you be taken away?/ Back pages and days alone that could have been spent/ Together, but we were miles apart Every inch between us becomes light years now
I’m open - Remus!!!! Post ’81
After spending half his life searching he still felt as blank/ As the ceiling at which he stared/ He is alive but feels absolutely nothing/ So is he?/ When he was six he believed that the moon overhead followed him/…..So this is what it's like to be an adult/ If he only knew now what he knew then
Thumbing my Way - Remus post ’81 again blah blah ikik
I can't be free with what's locked inside of me/ If there was a key you took it in your hand/ There’s no wrong or right but I'm sure there's good and bad/ The questions linger overhead
Rats - we know how remus like to soliloquize …. This is him waxing poetic about how fucking horrible Peter is
The song itself is kind of listing the many ills of humankind saying how rats don’t compare to people bc they don’t do all this. But Peter isnt really a rat. He’s a man and oppresses like a man and betrays like a man and takes like a man.
“Drink the blood of their so-called best friend….They don't scurry when something bigger comes their way….Don't take what's not theirs“
Oceans - Sirius escaping Azkaban
Hold on to the thread/ The currents will shift, glide me towards/ You know something's left/ And we're all allowed to dream of the next…..The sea will rise/ Please stand by the shore/ I will be there once more
Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town - Sirius after Azkaban
200004309248% sirius returning from 12 years isolated. He doesn’t really recognize most things. Remus wouldn’t recognize him. He’s different. Changed by being unchanged. He couldn’t grow and learn and morph and become. He stagnated yet decayed. But he’s back and he recognizes your skin and your breath. He’s back.
Off He Goes - Sirius is a Sagittarius in the first half, second half is post PoA
Know a man his face seemed pulled and tense/ Like he's riding on a motorbike in the strongest winds/ So I approach with tact/ Suggest that he should relax/ But he's always movin' much too fast/ Said he'll see me on the flip side/ On this trip he's taken for a ride…./ And now I rub my eyes for he has returned/ Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned/ For he still smiles and he's still strong/ Nothing’s changed, but the surrounding bullshit, that has grown/ And now he's home, and we're laughing, like we always did/ My same old, same old friend/ Until a quarter-to-ten
All Those Yesterdays - and cue the bath scene, remus washes his lost love
Don't you think you oughta rest?/ Don’t you think you oughta lay you head down?/ You don't think there's time to stop/ There’s time enough for you to lay your head down tonight tonight/ Let it wash away/ All those yesterdays

Hey guys,
This is the local dog rescue charity that we were carers for, for several years. May do it again in future, but after Debbie (who was rescued by Precious Paws), it feels like we need a break.
We have had three foster fails, but two puppers came through our home, learned to feel safe and loved, and went on to a perfectly matched new family.
There is always a demand for carers, so if you think you can, have a look at their Carer Info. Or look into the FB page, to keep your eyes open.
The best way to find new carers for animals is having a network of people sharing the Urgent statuses, which flags the attention of new groups of people. No dog will ever be LEFT on death row. They look for carers until the last second, but will absofuckinglutely take the dog anyway and put them in a boarding kennel short-term whilst a carer is located.
No doggo left behind.
It can be a bit confronting, though, so I understand if you cannot. The majority of the dogs have been surrendered to the pound, for various reasons, and the rescues in the region put their hands up for the ones slated for being put down each week. This list constantly refills, so there is always a need.
Some other dogs, like Debbie, are rescued directly from the disgusting human slime of the world who have caused them pain, injury, or attempted to kill them.
Carers open their homes to as many as they can, but there will always be more needed. A dog can be with you for a few months, to a few years, depending on their needs.
Little Willow was so scared of everything when we got her, it took 5 months to get her to trust men near her due to where she came from. But after nearly a year, she was ready for adoption and went to a new mother; happy, healthy, and confident. She was fast, smart and a very delightful little doggo. I do miss her, sometimes, but her new mother sent us photos of Willow on her first and second adoption anniversaries.
And little Gemini’s face, when her new family sent a photo from her first meeting with her human brother, was SO BIG!
It is hard to say goodbye, because they are with you for a long time, and you have to work hard with them, so they are an integral part of your life. But it helps to know that their future family is out there, not yet aware that there’s a dog shaped hole waiting to be filled.
As my parental unit says, “In reality, if they were not with us, they’d be dead. Someone without any heart dropped these animals off to be killed, and because of all these rescues, all these dogs and cats get another chance at life.”
Harvey, who we have now, was 9mths (Willow too) when they came to us. BABIES who just were too energetic or too big, so they had to be sent away. It takes a while to rebuild that trust in them.
Not to mention the absolute FUCKS who take their little old dogs, who have known and loved them their WHOLE LIVES to the pound and walk out with a new puppy (or kitten). FUCKS.  Those little doggos are never forgotten, PPARs and the other rescues make sure they have somewhere to go as well! I know of a 16yo bulldog called rosie, who was snappy when she first came and very depressed, who blossomed with her carers into a happy old girl. She was adopted recently!!!
It is important to be aware that these animals are often traumatised and have behaviours that some can consider ‘naughty’. You have to be understanding. Like traumatised kids, the worst thing you can do is yell or hit or whatever, even if they piss on your favourite rug or chew a beloved pair of shoes.
They may snap and snarl. Might shy away from men, or women, or teenagers. Might cower away, or show subservience constantly. Might hide for a few weeks. Might wet themselves or run to hide if something makes a loud noise or there is a specific trigger. They might rip up the couch twice, or hump your pillows. Try to escape the yard (need strong fences). A trigger? One of our kids was terrified of men, the noise of a powertool, and anyone having the hood of their car open. Would sit, shaking, panting in fear if these things were present. Still a bit much for her, but she knows to go to a human, who will keep her safe. Or sit with her sister doggo, who will protect her.
Willow was scared of men, shouting, and would be immediately wet-herself-afraid and show her belly in subservience. My giant bearded mountain of a sibling would lay on the floor with her, and talk gently, let her come over to sniff him. Eventually, she would lay next to him, and finally he could pat her, and it progressed from there. This took months of consistency and care.
I know of another carer couple who had this tiny little dog who was SO SCARED of everything she spent absolute months hiding under their bed or sofa. Too scared to be touched. They fed her and never made a fuss if she had a little accident indoors. And one day, she popped her head out while the male carer was pretending to be occupied... and licked his arm. That was it, went straight back under the bed. But it was a huge step. She can now be held and cuddled, and loves her little life. But it took the time, understanding and patience of these carers to get her there. It’s important to note that carers dont normally have the whole backstory for each dog, but after a while, you tend to get good at figuring it out based on behaviours. Harvey’s behaviours were extremely frantic for attention, he didn’t know how to sit or be still, he was desperate for attention; his behaviours increased when on a lead (which had to be used for the first few weeks and outside time, as this was a New Household Member time).  It was clear that given his age, when we got him, and his behaviours that he’d been an xmas gift puppy that had gotten WAAAAAAY bigger than anticipated. When he was small he’d been the fuss of what we suspect was at least 2 children. After getting too big, he was put on a leash in the yard, and had no real interaction.
Harvey would go BALLISTIC if given even a glance from a human. He NEEDED attention, and it took months of careful work with him to teach sit, stay, look, settle, back back, etc. He’s still a bit ridiculous, sometimes, but he can sleep on a bed with a human and only half drown them in spit (ugh) lmao.
So consider if you could be a carer.  Or, if that isn’t realistic for you right now... donate.
--------
Donate, if you can.
If you’re in Brisbane, you might see them doing sausage sizzles at Bunnings on the weekends to raise needed funds!
-------
COVID-19 hit all the rescue charities hard. Their normal fundraising was crippled by the lockdowns, but animals are always in need of new homes and protection.
If you can help out your local shelters, they’d appreciate it!
There’s food and supplies that need to be paid for; PPAWs specifically help out pensioners who take on an animal, by providing the food and toys, collar, bedding, etc. There’s desexing, microchipping and all vaccinations to be paid for. Some animals have extreme medical issues that need to be fixed (such as a dog surrendered with a broken hip, or dogs like Debbie, who were starved almost to death. Who need intensive and long-term things; with Debbie, my family put money forwards for her insulin and eye surgeries, etc. bc we could budget for it. Not everyone can, though.
There’s also little emergencies here and there that they jump in for, to assist.  [E.g early on when the caninculin levels were being sorted, Debbie had a random fit, so I rushed her in and they discovered her BSL had hit 1 - very dangerous. PPAWs got on the phone and said, “Any tests, any medication, any fluids, anything that needs to happen for that little girl, you DO IT” and they stabilised her. PPAWs also helped fund the full-day glucose testing and blood panel the next day and an overnight with the vet, that was pretty expensive. To be clear, it is expected that her starvation and new diabetes was likely to experience highs and lows, so we had bought a glucometer, and had squeezy-top bottles of honey all over the house as an emergency-response kit. When Debbie went funny, we filled her mouth full of honey and transported; which was the protocol, as was taking her medication chart (she’d been waaaay high for BSL that morning so this dip was SCARY). It took another incident before the vet decided to use an interstitial fluid monitor, and the results backed up our concerns that Debbie was having completely random highs/lows and spikes with no real pattern. She had the vet recommended food and no treats outside of the ones she was allowed, and at times suggested by the vet. Except on her last day when the vet said she could absolutely have a wholw happy meal, and little Debbie was DELIGHTED. I have the funniest photo of her with it all in her mouth looking excited but not sure where to go from there, but it still makes me cry to look at it because we lost her just three weeks ago. (We did rip it into little mouthfuls for her, though. Just to clarify.) She was placed on a higher dose, after that, and was completely stable from there. It was the testing that initially identified a flaw, though, and we are forever grateful that PPAWs stepped in on that day.
And the point of my rambling speech... is that shit happens. Especially with these dogs, cats, horses, and all the other animals they rescue.  Emergencies are often the most expensive to cover for charities.
On the upside! Donations also help with a) transporting animals to carers around the region, and b) on the occasion that an animal’s new furever family is interstate, they can be flown to them!
Lots of stuff.
Think about the mess of words, and consider donating - to PPAWs, or find out the name of your local charity and see if they need help!

~~
You seethed silently as Loki followed behind a servant with you on a glorified leash.
“Here is your room sir” The female creature did not make eye contact as she spoke to Loki.
Loki thanked her and proceeded to drag you into the room as she scurried off somewhere. Once the door was closed you tore the collar from around your neck.
“Your pet?” You dared him to confirm. The evil little smirk that twisted on his lips both angered and excited you.
“Lady Y/n, I promise that I meant no offense. Calling you my pet was for your benefit” Loki’s eyes glinted with mischief. He knew he was pushing your buttons and oh how he enjoyed seeing your face scrunch up in annoyance.
“My benefit?” You scoffed.
“If you had been unclaimed, I can promise you that Khelerath would have claimed you as his own and I would have no say in the matter” Loki explained with a wave of his hand and you sighed. He was right. “Some would rage wars over such a fascinating creature like yourself. So powerful yet so... easily frightened”
“Excuse me?” The annoyance boiled in your stomach.
“You looked like a lost kitten scurrying under my cape like you did” The familiar grin appeared on the gods face.
“I did-“
“Is this really important, Y/n?” Loki cut you off without glancing from the window he stared out of.
“How are we going to get out of here, Loki?” You questioned, realizing the situation you were is was a lot worse than pretending to be Loki’s playtoy.
“We will have to either wait for the caravan or someone to save us” Loki frowned now and turned towards you. The intense look on his face made you gulp. “Y/n we are on a planet where you should not dare to defy me”
“Excuse me?” You questioned.
“This planet is filled with what you midgardians would call ‘sexists’” Loki explained. “Women are property to be used and sold like cattle. They can be killed or broken if they dare disrespect their masters. If you would like to get out of this safely, you must play this game with me”
You knew what he was telling you was probably true but you couldn’t help but feel annoyed. You were now stuck playing a kinky game of master and slave with a particularly hot and dangerous god.
“Y/n do you understand me?” The serious tone in Loki’s voice got to you.
“Yes, yeah I get it. I’m yours until we get out of here” You rolled your eyes at Loki when is eyebrows went up.
“I’ve never seen you this compliant with me Y/n. Is it perhaps because you’re excited for this little game?”
“I just don’t want to die, stupid” You scoffed. Of course he would turn this around and make it seem like you wanted him. If anything he’s the one who initiated this.
“Are you sure darling?” Loki’s eyes glinted as he took a few steps closer to you. “Are you sure you’ve never thought about me in such ways?”
“Such ways?” You muttered sarcastically.
“Sexually. Have you fantasized about me while you lay awake in your bed at night?” Loki continued walking towards you. When your eyes widened in shock he continued. “Have you thought about what it would be like to be my pet? To be my little plaything?”
“Of course not!” You sputtered out in shock. Of course this was a lie but you had never fantasized about him. It was a simple curiosity. Loki had a very dominant vibe that came from him and you couldn’t help but wonder...
“Then why has your blood rushed to your cheeks?” Loki was close enough to run a thumb over your blushing cheeks.
“Because you’re talking about-about-“
“Making you mine?” Loki finished your sentence while gripping onto your chin. Unlike the fear that rushed to your belly when Khelerath did this, another feeling filled your gut. One you did not want to admit to anyone, not even yourself.
Before you could reply, Loki let go of you and did a 360 turn.
“Do not leave the room. I am going to speak with Khelerath about our accommodations” Loki glanced behind him and saw your eyebrows furrow. “You need to eat darling and I doubt your stomach is used to Dicarro delicacies”
And then he was gone, leaving you a mess.
You squeezed your eyes, trying to hush the thoughts that ran around your mind. This is just a game. When we get back home we can go back to hating each other. Without all of these implications.
You decided to take in your surroundings. Your room was beautiful. It looked like it was plucked right out of a Disney castle. There was two couches in the corner of the room that looked like they had been stitched with gold. There was only one king sized bed in the room with a beautiful deep red covering on it. There was also a window that gave us a view of Dicarro and the planets off in the distance. It was beautiful. On this planet, unlike Earth, you could see the other planets in this solar system clearly.
You flickered your eyes up to the ceiling and blushed. The entire ceiling above the bed was a mirror.
You squeezed your legs together as thoughts of watching yourself come undone under Loki’s pale, body filled your mind.
“Stop it, Y/n” You muttered to yourself and tried to find something to get your mind off of that topic. “You’ve got to be kidding me”
Your eyes fell on a small cage at the foot of the bed. It looked like a dog cage but there were no dogs on Dicarro. Only sex slaves.
“Jesus Christ” You ran your fingers through your hair. “He better not think I’m going to be sleeping in that”
You continued to roam your new living quarters and continued to find sex contraptions everywhere. Like chains in the shower, a stripper pole in what you had thought was a closet and many more things that you knew Loki would tease you about.
You opened the door to what you once again thought was a closet and a gasp escaped your mouth.
If this was 50 Shades Of Grey, this was Christian Grey’s game room. So many sex toys and devices. Some looked familiar like the ones you had seen on Earth and some looked completely scary.
“That looks fun” You flinched at the sound of Loki’s voice. When did he get back?
You turned to see his familiar mischievous smirk. He had a tray of fruit. But nothing that even remotely looked like it was from Earth.
“They don’t have anything native to Earth here but I picked a few things that I know isn’t poisonous to humans” Loki set the tray down on the coffee table and gestured for you to sit and you obeyed when your stomach began to rubble.
Stupid Thanos interrupting your breakfast with his creepy plans to rule the universe.
“I’m going to shower. Do not leave the room without me” Loki commanded without looking your way and you rolled your eyes.
Once the door to the bathroom was shut, you started trying all of the different fruit Loki had brought you and you couldn’t help but groan in satisfaction. How come Earth didn’t have as delicious foods?
Knock, Knock
You hesitantly went to open the door, unsure of what to do. If you ignored it, you may get in trouble.
Your eyes met Khelerath’s. And suddenly the fear the subsided a while ago was back.
“Your master allows you to roam free when he is not present?” Khelerath raised what would have been his eyebrow if he had one.
“I-I” You stuttered, not knowing how to explain that.
“Have you disobeyed your master, sweet one?” You felt like crying as Khelerath’s hand caressed your cheek. “I brought you something, if you would like to try it. I brought it as a gift for your master”
Your eyes settled on the beautiful chocolatey goodness in Khelerath’s hand.
“Come, sit.” You obeyed Khelerath as he lead you to the couch once again. He sat close to you and you wanted to cringe away. “It is harmless to all lifeforms so it should not hurt”
Khelerath used the fork to cut a piece of the cake and your eyes widened at the melted chocolate that spilled out. “Open” You obeyed and Khelerath shoved the fork into your mouth. You almost moaned at the taste. This was like chocolate on steroids and you wondered why Thor never brought any on his trips to Earth.
“Y/n -” Loki appeared from the bathroom and your couldn’t help but feel a burning in your abdomen when you saw what he was wearing. Or what he wasn’t wearing.
There stood Loki, in nothing but a towel loosely wrapped around his waist. His chest bare with water beads dripping down from his hair. You bit your lip to distract you but noticed that Khelerath was staring at you with an expectant look.
“Yes daddy” Your eyes grew wide along with Loki’s and Khelerath’s. How could you let that slip. You had never told anybody about your daddy kink before...
“Strange” Khelerath whispered. “But interesting.” You watched Khelerath’s hand lift to touch you but he stopped himself.
“Why are you here?” Loki’s voice sounded accusatory and the power dripping from his tone made you want to moan.
“I only stopped by to leave a gift but your pet answered the door” Khelerath broke out in an evil smirk. “Pets are not allowed to be left to their own accord, here on Dicarro. You must punish her for breaking the rules”
That should have struck fear in you but it didn’t. Instead you felt your arousal and your body got hot.
“We did not know of that rule and I do not believe I should punish her for something she was not aware of” Loki squinted his eyes at Khelerath and you had to dig your nails into your palm to stop yourself from pouncing on him.
What the hell was happening to you? You’ve never felt this much arousal in your life for anyone, especially not Loki.
“I am being courteous, Loki. Slaves who break rules, aware or not, usually get punished by the court in ways that are...” Khelerath’s eyes glinted. “dangerous to such a fragile species. But if that is what you want, I’ll gladly take her to my dungeon”
Loki’s eyes met yours and he was stunned by the obvious arousal leaking off of you. Figuratively of course but he could see it in your eyes and he didn’t know why. But he took that as your consent.
“Fine” In an instant Loki had you in front of where he sat on the bed.
You felt nothing but pleasure as Loki’s hands began to unbutton your jeans and pull them down just below your ass. Usually you would have kicked yourself for putting on a thong this morning but for some reason it excited you.
You noticed that Loki’s eyes were staring into Khelerath’s as he bent you over his lap.
“Count” You felt Loki’s voice rumble and before your could comprehend what was happening you heard a slap and felt a stinging on your ass. You moaned in response only for Loki to wrap his hand into your hair and pull your head back to look him in his eyes. You expected your eyes to meet angry eyes but instead they looked pleading despite his tone. “I said count”
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten
You were shaking in Loki’s lap, the mixture of pleasure and pain too much for you to bare.
“That is enough” Loki spoke, once again to Khelerath but you couldn’t see him through your teary eyes.
“Enjoy my gift” Khelerath spoke and then the door slammed closed.
“I apologize, Y/n” Loki stood you up in between his legs. “That was better than whatever Khelerath-”
You cut him off by slamming your lips against his. His body was freezing and contrasted completely with how hot you were. Loki’s hands wrapped around your thighs and you pushed him back so you were straddling him.
Loki pulled away with hungry eyes and ragged breath. “Why?”
“I want you so bad” You whined and tried to kiss him again but he held you in place. He looked like he was thinking hard about something and then his eyes snapped to where Khelerath had left his gift.
In an instant you were laying on your back while Loki had stood up, fixing his towel with a disturbed look on his face.
“Loki” You whined while squirming around on the bed. You needed to feel him on top of you. Inside you.
“Those are not your feelings” Loki shook his head, still holding that disturbed look.
“What do you mean?” You felt like crying that is how much you needed him.
“Khelerath’s gift” Loki glared at the plate. “It’s made with voluptatem”
“What?” You groaned, unable to process the words coming from his mouth. All you wanted was his mouth on yours.
Loki’s eyes met yours and he looked both annoyed and disappointed. “It enhances your libido. It makes you completely compliant to whoever you see first after it enters your system”
His eyes turned angry and you moaned at the sight making him run one of his large hands over his face.
“Khelerath was trying to manipulate you but I interrupted” Loki growled, sending pleasure straight to your core. “Leaving this planet with you is going to be a lot harder than I anticipated”
“Just fuck me” You basically screamed making Loki’s eyes snap to your body that was sprawled on the bed.
“No” Loki spoke with no hesitation and for a split second, you felt embarrassed. Of course a god like him wouldn’t want you. But then it was overcome but arousal. “Voluptatem is the equivalent to your planet’s roofies. If I did that, it would be taking advantage of you”
If you were in the right state of mind you would have thought that what he said was honorable. Some men in his position would jump at the chance. But since your body was telling you that it needed to orgasm, all you felt was disappointment
“Loki please” You begged and for a minute you thought you had convinced him by the way he cupped your face in his hand and shot you a mischievous smirk..
“If you need pleasure, darling, you’re going to have to do it yourself” You literally had tears in your eyes as Loki ran a finger over your bottom lip. “I’m sure you can find something in here to help”
And then he straightened up and turned on his heel.
“I am going to find us clean clothing. I’ll be back soon, so please hurry” Loki opened the door before turning back to look at you. “I will lock the door from the outside. Do not open it for anybody”
You watched him close the door and you threw yourself back onto the bed in frustration.

10 Myths About Border Collies
Tumblr media
Myth 1:  I have small children, so I want a puppy. Without a doubt, this is the most common reason people want a puppy.  A sweet, small puppy just seems like the best choice for sweet, small children. You know that cute Kodak commercial with the puppies climbing all over the giggling little boy? Have you ever noticed how short it is? That’s because they could only film for a few seconds before the welts rose, the blood dripped, and the boy began to scream for his mother.  Puppies have needle-teeth that they happily sink into anyone who walks by.  They also have sharp nails that scratch when they jump up -- and on little Ryan, those front feet land right around his face. Puppies leave “presents” that your toddler always seems to find before you do.  Puppies wake your children during the night.  And a puppy doesn’t know the difference between his stuffed toy and Sarah’s Piglet that she MUST have to fall asleep. And suppose you get a puppy when little Morgan is 2.  In six months, Morgan will be about 1 inch taller and 3 pounds heavier.  However, the 8-month-old puppy will now be as tall as Morgan and outweigh her by 20 pounds.  And those baby teeth will have been replaced by big snappers that need to chew. Of course, puppies and small children do successfully co-habitate.  But, in our experience, your child will go through far less Neosporin and Band-Aids with a calmer 2 + year old dog who is road-tested with children. Myth 2:  It’s better to get a puppy.  With an older dog, you never know what you’re getting. Seems to make sense, except the exact opposite is true.  All puppies are cute; all puppies love everyone.  It’s not until a dog hits sexual maturity that some innate behavioral problems start to surface.  We can’t even estimate how many calls we’ve had from people who paid thousands of dollars for a purebred puppy, who is now a year or two old and biting people, attacking other dogs, or engaging in some oddball neurotic behavior.  Purebred is not the same as well bred, and sometimes it feels like the disreputable breeders grossly outnumber the responsible ones. The truth is this: when we list a 4-month-old puppy, we can only guess what kind of adult she’ll make.  When we list an 18-month-old dog, we can predict pretty accurately what kind of dog you’ll have forever. Myth 3:  If you train your dog right, he’ll stay in the yard without a fence. Many people believe this, right up until the moment the dog is hit by a car, eats poison in the neighbor’s garage, or is stolen.  We insist on a fence or leash walks.  Rescue dogs are typically either strays (which means they have a history of wandering) or owner-surrenders (which means they’re going to go look for their ex-owner first chance they get).  We just can’t risk it. Myth 4:  When I was growing up, we had a PERFECT Border Collie. No, you didn’t.  Trust me, he was only perfect because you were 8 and didn’t have to clean up after him and be responsible for him.  I know you believed he was perfect, but you also believed in Santa and honest government then, too. I had a perfect BC named Max when I was growing up.  He died in my freshman year of college, and has since, in family lore, gone on to be canonized.  St. Max.  Bow your head when you say it.  Everyone in my family seems to forget the time St. Max was hit by a car he was chasing.  Or the time he bit the kid biking by.  Or how he used to sneak in and sleep on the furniture when no one was home.  Or the time he had diarrhea all over the hardwood floors.  Or how he used to eat the Christmas ornaments off the bottom half of the tree. Since I’ve been an adult, I’ve never had a perfect Border Collie--but every single one of them was perfect for me. Myth 5:  Border Collies stop being puppies around a year old. BUUUUZZZZZ! I’m sorry.  Try 2 or 3 for most.  Many Border Collies don’t calm down and hit their stride until they’re 4 or 5. Myth 6:  I want a dog without dominance issues, so I want a female. In the wacky world of Border collies, that’s just not true.  For starts, it’s impossible to make gender-based absolutes.  But once you spend time around Border Collies, you’ll start to notice there are plenty of hyper, dominant females out there.  You’ll also notice lots of mellow, roll-with-the-punches males (especially after they make that all-important trip to Dr.  Knife). It all depends on the individual dog, but don’t think for a minute that a female is a sure ticket to a passive, submissive pooch. Myth 7:  My 8 month old Border Collie is biting people.  He’s not lunging or growling, but he makes little nips on arms and legs.  I can’t keep an aggressive dog. The secret here is to look at what the dog has been bred to do.  Border Collies herd.  It’s what they do.  And chances are, that’s all he’s doing to your friends and family. This is called mouthing.  It’s what happens when those cute little puppy bites go uncorrected.  And if your dog’s doing it, he will continue to do it--and do it harder and stronger--until you DO correct it. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to fix in most dogs.  There’re lots of tips on the internet (just search for “dog mouthing”) and your vet can probably help as well.  If the problem is really out of hand, you may need to call in a trainer for a few sessions. Myth 8:  I’m unsure about getting a rescue dog, because I’m afraid he won’t bond to me. That sound you hear is all the people with rescued dogs falling over laughing.  Because the exact opposite is nearly always true--your rescue dog will CLING to you. Look at it from the dog’s perspective.  She’s spent the bulk of the last year on a 6-foot chain in someone’s back yard because she committed the unconscionable sin of no longer being a puppy.  At some point during the day, someone may remember to bring her food and water.  The only attention she gets is when they yell at her for barking. Finally, they take her for a car-ride--dumping her in a wooded area where she can have a “fighting chance.” Despite everything, she waits there for their return or tries to get back home.  She finds water somewhere.  She raids trashcans and gets sick.  If she’s extremely lucky, she survives long enough for an animal lover to find her and bring her to the shelter. Then she sits in the loud, scary shelter run, starting to lose faith that her family will ever find her.  The kennel people are nice, but she is one of a hundred needy dogs they have to care for. Finally, the shelter calls us.  And you take her home. You not only bring her into your house, you give her her own bed and bowl, and a crate where she feels safe.  You speak quietly.  When she messes on the carpet, you don’t seem to mind--you just take her outside and then clean it up.  You feed her regularly AND give her toys and treats and Nylabones.  She sleeps in your room.  She may even have a big brother or sister to play with.  She gets kisses.  And when she goes out in the car, she always comes back.
Your rescue dog’s biggest fear is that you will spontaneously combust.
She’s not going to let you out of her sight for one minute.  People with rescue dogs learn to function with a 70 pound shadow following us everywhere. That said, there are some dogs who just never learned to connect with people, but that becomes apparent very quickly--long before we place him with you. Myth 9:  Border Collies are so smart they practically train themselves. Wrong.  Think about it- the dog is smart, so he learns to figure things out.  He may housetrain easily, learn basic obedience easily, but what else can he learn? My BC has learned to open doors, steal laundry, and climb a tree.  He’s also learned that he can entertain himself by digging or barking.  What makes him stop digging or barking? Learning something new and getting a lot of exercise- every day.  Not once a week, every day.  BCs are like that super-smart nerdy kid in Chemistry class- he successfully completes the class experiment, and then blows up the lab because he wants to see how the chemicals interact.  Super smart kids make super big messes. Myth 10:  I don't want to have my dog spayed or neutered because it's not natural/ she should be able to have a litter/I want my children to see the miracle of birth/etc. If everyone prevented irresponsible breeding, we'd be happily out of business.  Do not humanize your dog--no one's asking you to neuter yourself.  Your dog will be healthier and more comfortable once s/he's shifted into neutral--and will also be a much more pleasant companion. Neutered male dogs roam less, mark less territory, and are generally less aggressive.  Spayed female dogs avoid the messy and annoying heat cycles, and are not at risk for unwanted pregnancy.  And both males and females are less likely to get certain illnesses. As for the miracle of birth, well, there's another rite of passage occurring to 20 million dogs a year in this country, 25% of them purebred.  It happens every day at your local animal shelter.  But most parents are not as eager for their children to see that.

Preventing Separation Anxiety in the Time of Covid
#Poop4U
If you’ve been home more often than not because of Covid Safe at Home, this is a good time to ensure that your dog doesn’t end up with Separation Anxiety (SA) when you go back to work. I’m concerned, as are many of my colleagues, that there is going to be a surge in separation anxiety cases once people aren’t home as often. I suspect that this is especially true of all the dogs that have been adopted from shelters during the Covid crisis, and have yet to experience being home alone.
Here are three tips that can help:
1. Keep calm and come home: Teach your dog that your arrivals and departures are nothing to get excited (or anxious) about. I’ll admit that it’s hard to not get excited when you get home and there’s a wriggly, puddle of love waiting for you, but calm is key. Keep your greetings quiet and low key–this doesn’t mean you can’t love up your dog as much as you’d like. Just do it without lots of highly arousing expressions of joy; quiet and calm is the key here.
That’s goes for departures too. As a friend once said when I told her I felt guilty leaving my dogs home, she noted that they were going to spend the morning lying on the couch while I worked my ass off in my office to bring home the dog food. Now I say quietly, with true warmth and affection,”Love you, be good” when I go, and leave it at that.
Please don’t be this person, says the dog while trying to get away.
  2. Begin a desensitizing and counter conditioning plan. The good news is that it’s not hard to condition a dog to being comfortable when you leave the house. The bad news is that, depending the dog, it can take focus and energy, qualities in short supply for most of us right now.
Here’s the simple version: Leave your dog with something that makes her happy while you leave the house. Here’s the oh-so-important detail: Start by leaving for just seconds or minutes at a time. Where you start depends on what your life is like right now, and how dependent or independent your dog is. If your dog is often alone in the house while you and the family are out in the garden, then just add in a quick drive around the neighborhood while your dog chews on a stuffed Kong or bullystick.
If you think about it and realize your dog has simply never been alone in the house lately, then start by having everyone walk to the mailbox while your dog snarfs up kibble tossed onto the floor. What’s important is to start small: Really, really small. If your dog already has SA, then “small” means “walk to the door and put your hand on the doorknob” five times in a row while your dog eats some treats. Or pick up your keys, or put on your coat, ten times in a row to desensitize your dog to that action.
This is the tricky part to explain, because it depends on so many factors, most importantly, your dog’s behavior when you leave the house. If you have a new dog that you got while you stayed Safe at Home, start by noticing how often you leave the dog alone in the house and what you can guess about your dog’s behavior behaves if/when you’re gone. (Taping your dog is a great thing to do and can actually be entertaining.)
I wrote a booklet titled I’ll Be Home Soon: How to Prevent and Treat  Separation Anxiety that goes over this in great detail. It’s concise, only 38 pages, and might be worthwhile if you need some more advice about how to proceed. Dogwise and I agreed to put it on sale, basically at cost, in order to help out anyone who could use it.
(Cautionary note: I wrote the booklet in 2000, twenty long years ago, and used the phrase “leader of the pack”. Sigh. It had nothing to do with the meaning now associated with that phrase; it advised teaching your dog to be patient and polite. Needless to say, next time it’s printed I’ll change the wording.) (Cautionary note #2: The scariest thing about publishing something is that the words you wrote will live on. And on and on . . .)
If you’d like to read more on this topic, you might enjoy reading a post I wrote in 2011 about research that claimed counter conditioning wasn’t helpful in SA cases. The research is so flawed my head almost exploded, but it makes for amusing if not slightly frustrating reading.
  3. Never correct or punish your dog after the fact. This actually goes for ALL dog behavior, but is highly relevant to dogs who are anxious when left alone.  Your dog may look guilty when you come home to ripped up pillows or a pile on the carpet, but Brandy’s appeasing posture is designed to avoid your wrath, not because “she knows she shouldn’t do it”. (Read more about the “guilty dog fallacy” here). Scolding her when you get home will likely do nothing but make it worse the next time you leave.
I’d love to hear what’s going on with you. Dogs fine home alone? Have a new dog who you’re not sure about? Had a dog with SA and now it’s fine? Let’s us know, we’d love to hear about it.
MEANWHILE, back on the farm: Our life is revolving around Skip’s injured leg, with daily moist heat treatments, laser treatments and 3 sets of physical therapy exercises recommended by kick ass PT Courtney Arnoldy. (Who we managed to get in to see, sort of. I handed Skip off to her in front of the clinic and we worked hard to communicate by phone amidst a major construction project across the street.)
Skip gets one leash walk off the farm a day, which is the best part of his treatment for all of us for sure. We’re up to 35 minutes with no sign of it hurting him, so that’s good news. Prognosis is one to three months more, please please please let it be the former rather than the latter. I am working hard on accepting this reminder of life having “other plans.” I do better some days than others; he and I were just clicking as a working sheepdog team the week it happened, so I alternate between meditative acceptance and being pure and simply pissed off.  I give equal thanks to meditation most days, and gin on Friday and Saturday nights to get me through.
I hung back with Maggie to take this shot of Jim and Skip. All of us agree that leash walks are better than nothing, but don’t begin to make up for the joy of off leash walks.
Black Earth Creeks runs alongside one of the trails we have been enjoying lately with the BCs.
Here’s a happy sign of spring: Healthy triplets on the farm of friend Donna H, whose 13 ewes had more triplets (and some quads!) than anything else.
The Prairie Smoke in our garden is smoldering (wait til you see it when it seeds!):
Below is a view from behind the house looking up toward our “DIY safari tent”. The piles you see are from the invasive Bush Honeysuckle that formed an almost solid wall in what used to be an oak/hickory/black cherry woods. I’ve never seen anything as invasive as this plant, it literally takes over entire areas and prevents anything else from growing. A crew from Quercus Land Stewardship spent two days cutting it and treating the stumps. They’ll come back in June to burn the piles, and will seed the area with native woodland flowers and herbs in fall. It’ll take years to get it back to health, and we’ll be dealing with massive amounts of wild raspberries for years, but it will all be worth it, even if it doesn’t come into its own until after Jim and I are gone. (Yes, raspberries are great to eat, but try walking through a patch of solid raspberries sometime.)
Jim and I look forward to staying overnight in the tent sometime soon. We’re waiting for nighttime lows above 50 F, hopefully not too long from now. We have lots more tent clean up to do before staying there though, (we say “your welcome” to all the mice who enjoyed living there last year), so we’re okay with another week of lows in the 40’s.
I loved hearing about what you are looking forward to last week, keep it up!

Apparently, Children, and Click: |pot Found in an empty apartment 4 days after his beloved parent died, a sweet, special boy, waits for a new family to love him. Id 15154, 2 Yrs & 8 Mos. old, Heartbroken & waiting, at the Manhattan ACC TO BE KILLED 8/22/19 SPOT was found with his bonded sibling SOX in an empty apartment, 4 days AFTER their beloved parent had died. They had sat during that time, cuddled together as day turned into night and night turned into day, wondering what had happened to the person they had built their lives around since they were puppies. They comforted each other, even as they looked at their empty food dishes and their water dish, now empty. Stomachs rumbling, parched with thirst, hearts broken, and confusion in their eyes. And then they were found. The police came and they wagged furiously, hoping this stranger would take them to their parent. But instead they were brought to the shelter, separated when they got there, and each put in their own kennel. Now they wait, and when the shelter goes silent at night, they each stare into the night, wondering where each other are, as they reflect on the life they lost and all the precious memories that now only bring sadness and longing instead of happiness and delight. Won’t you help them out? Foster or adopt Spot or Sox or BOTH – they are bonded after all. And they deserve to be given back their smiles. Message our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance. A staff member writes: Can you 'spot' the cutest dog in the room? Hint: it's me! I'm the cutest dog in the room. Yes, my name also happens to be Spot, and YES, since I know you're about to ask, I am also available for adoption! So now that we're acquaintances, let me tell you more about myself... I'm a man of mystery, as some would say. In my spare time, I've been studying the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and Joaquin Phoenix to perfect my stoic, mystery man charm. I think I've been doing a great job, but some of my friends here at the care center say they wish they could get to know a bit more of me. Okay, and since I'd say we're friends now, I'll let you in on a secret- I'm a bit nervous here in the shelter environment, so opening up and socializing isn't always easy for me. I'm looking to find my way into a slow-paced, adult only home where I can be the only dog, and have some time to decompress and shine. Can you help me find that? SPOT, ID# 15154, 2 yrs and 8 mos old, xx lbs, Unaltered Male Manhattan ACC, Large Mixed Breed, White / Black I was a Return, 7/29/2019 Surrender Reason: Found in apt by Police, 4 days after owner had passed away Shelter Assessment Rating: LEVEL 3 No children (under 13), Single-pet home, Recommend no dog parks Medical Behavior Rating: Blue I came to the shelter with, and am bonded to, SOX, ID# 15155 (adopted already) Behavior Assessment Date of intake:: 7/29/2019 Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray Date of assessment:: 7/30/2019 Summary:: Leash Walking Strength and pulling: Hard Reactivity to humans: None Reactivity to dogs: None Leash walking comments: None Sociability Loose in room (15-20 seconds): Distracted, does not approach Call over: Approaches with coaxing Sociability comments: Body soft, sitting down Handling Soft handling: Accepts contact Exuberant handling: Accepts contact Handling comments: Body soft Arousal Jog: Engages in play, escalates Arousal comments: initially runs loose, then escalates to intense jumping up and leash biting, could not easily be distracted, continues to leash bite for the duration of the assessment Knock: Approaches (loose) Knock Comments: None Toy: No response Toy comments: None PLAYGROUP NOTES - DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Summary:: 7/30: When introduced off leash to the female greeter dog, Spot is tense, freezes, and lowers to a lunge when greeting. Most recently, Spot has become more challenging to handle due to leash biting and at times mounting handlers. he has not had further follow up around other dogs, and a period of decompression is recommended before immediate follow up on behavior around dogs. ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Spot so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 8/13: When Sox 15155 is being walked past Spot's kennel, Spot sees Sox and greets her through the kennel door with a wagging tail. 8/12: Spot fixated on people and objects, staring at them intensely, whining, and howling. 8/11: Spot jumps up on the handler and attempts to mount. It is hard to distract him from this behavior. He also repeatedly jumps up and bites the leash. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3 Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Spot's low threshold for arousal we recommend an adult-only home. Single pet home/no dog parks: Due to concerning behavior observed during Spot's dog-dog assessment, introductions to unfamiliar dogs are not recommended at this time. Potential challenges: : Leash-biting,Low threshold for arousal Potential challenges comments:: Low threshold for arousal: During the arousal component of the handling assessment, Spot became very quickly aroused and began jumping up very high and focused on grabbing the leash in his mouth. He could not easily be distracted and continued to focus of the leash for the remainder of the handling assessment. Please see handout on Low threshold for arousal. Leash-biting: When Spot becomes excited and aroused, he is quick to jump up and grab the leash in his mouth. This behavior intensifies and he is difficult to distract. Please see handout on Leash-biting. Being Alone, Cats, and Children: BABY BOY id 53386, 8 yrs., 76 lbs of Heartbreak Dreaming of Home, at the Brooklyn ACC Affectionate, gentle, friendly, playful & shy, a perfect, proven family pet, abandoned after 8 years through no fault of his own, sits trembling at the shelter, his world shattered, his heart broken. *** TO BE KILLED - 1/31/2019 *** He sits trembling at the shelter, his world shattered, his heart broken….. :-( Abandoned by his parent of 8 years, BABY BOY sits in a kennel at the Brooklyn Center trembling, shaking, confused and alone. We don’t think there is a more lonely boy in the world than him. He clearly doesn’t understand why a new housing situation became more important than him, and he still searches every face for the family he loved and lost – his 2 parents, the 3 children he adored. He sits in his dark kennel, remembering how he’d cuddle with his parent in their bed at night, and we are sure that though we don’t see them, there are tears. How do you throw away a dog who gave his life to you? How do you do that? His parents KNEW he was very shy with new people, needing time to warm up to them, so why did they think he would do well in this scary place? No one is seeing that sterling resume, built over time and his desire to please them. Housetrained, well behaved home alone, a repertoire of commands. Baby Boy will never take those long walks with his parent again where, even if he was off leash, would come running when his parent called him. It’s truly heartbreaking, and now he is fighting for his life today, wondering what his fate will be. Will a kind, experienced family pick him, knowing that behind his hopeless eyes and shattered dreams is a heart as big as the world, and a boy who would make a perfect and loving companion? Big Boy needs another chance at happiness, this time with a family that stays! MESSAGE our page or email us at [email protected] right now for assistance fostering or adopting Baby Boy. These dogs are not displaying concerning behaviors in shelter, and the owner surrender profile (where available) is positive. Some dogs with Level 1 determinations may still have potential challenges, but these are challenges that the behavior team believe can be handled by the majority of adopters. The potential challenges could include no young children, prefers to be the only dog, no dog parks, no cats, kennel presence, basic manners, low level fear and mild anxiety. Level 2 Dogs with Level 2 determinations will be suitable for adopters with some previous dog experience. They will have displayed behavior in the shelter (or have owner reported behavior) that requires some training, or is simply not suitable for an adopter with minimal experience. Dogs with a Level 2 determination may have multiple potential challenges and these may be presenting at differing levels of intensity, so careful consideration of the behavior notes will be required for counselling. Potential challenges at Level 2 include no young children, single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity, mouthiness, fear with potential for escalation, impulse control/arousal, anxiety and separation anxiety. Level 3 Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and the ACC strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, a trainer will be needed to manage and work on the behaviors safely in a home environment. It is likely that every dog with a Level 3 determination will have a behavior modification or training plan available to them from the behavior department that will go home with the adopters and be made available to the New Hope Partners for their fosters and adopters. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but when seen alongside a Level 3 determination can be assumed to be more severe. The potential challenges for Level 3 determinations include adult only home (no children under the age of 13), single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity with potential for redirection, mouthiness with pressure, potential escalation to threatening behavior, impulse control, arousal, anxiety, separation anxiety, bite history (human), bite history (dog) and bite history (other). New Hope Rescue Only Dog is not publicly adoptable. Prospective fosters or adopters need to fill out applications with New Hope Partner Rescues to save this dog.

Being Alone, Cats, and Children: Adorable, sweet, shy e unsure, lived in harmony with children ệ dogs. knews some commands. behaves when home alohe -HOUSETRAINED-SPAYED e Ready To go Homell 42142-4 years old чо1bs Chloe @brooklyn acc waiting 4 LOVE **** TO BE KILLED - 9/27/2018 **** SUPER CUTE OLDER GIRL DUMPED DUE TO ALLERGIES :'( A volunteer writes: Chloe is a little shy and unsure, but there's definitely a sweet, friendly personality underneath. Each time I called her, she came up and sniffed me, with her tail wagging. Though she let me pet her, she seemed a bit cautious and I stopped whenever she seemed uncomfortable. But one thing she's not shy about is treats! When I offered a treat, all signs of shyness and fear melted away. She came right up to me with her tail in full wag-mode and happily took all that I offered. And she's not picky - hard, soft, big, or small treats - she loves them all! I talked to Chloe as we walked and she was very responsive - always looking up at me in a friendly way, wagging her tail, and then sniffing my hand, legs, and sneakers. When I sat down, she plunked herself right next to me and periodically got up to calmly check me out. We sat outside for a while and she seemed to get more relaxed, but not quite ready for a lot of physical interaction. Chloe probably just needs some time and space to get comfortable and allow her sweet, friendly personality to blossom. She walks nicely on a leash and it was easy to get her in and out of her cage. This sweet girl is awaiting her forever home at the Brooklyn ACC shelter. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the high levels of fear Chloe displays in the care center, we believe she may be best set up to succeed in an adult only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Chloe has not acclimated well to the care center and remains highly anxious and uncomfortable. Though she has been observed to display some social behavior with familiar handlers, Chloe consistently displays high level warning signals when uncomfortable. We recommend placement with an experienced rescue partner who will allow Chloe to decompress at her own pace. Force-free, reward-based training is advised when introducing or exposing Chloe to new and unfamiliar situations. Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Owner noted Chloe may growl and snap when handling her paws for nail clipping, showing a discomfort with touch in certain areas. It is important to avoid touching Chloe's paws at this time and being cautious when touching her in other areas as we do not know where she may have other sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Chloe to be more comfortable with this. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Chloe gives clear warnings when she is uncomfortable and does seem to choose to avoid or retreat when given the opportunity, but if prevented from moving away there is a potential to escalate to higher-level warning behaviors and possible fear-based aggression. It is important to move slowly with Chloe, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow Chloe to initiate interactions with new people. She should never be forced to greet or to interact if she is not comfortable and soliciting attention. Anxiety: Chloe has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining, barking) continually through the SAFER and through one-one sessions outside. This behavior was not reported at intake or in her previous home environment, so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment. CHLOE IS RESCUE ONLY…..TO SAVE THIS PUP YOU MUST FILL OUT APPLICATIONS WITH AT LEAST 3 NEW HOPE RESCUES. PLEASE HURRY!!! IF YOU CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT THIS PUP, PLEASE PM OUR PAGE FOR ASSISTANCE.
