Cinnamon
Cinnamomum Verum
Known as: Ceylon cinnamon & sweet bark
Related plants: Cinnamon is a member of the Lauraceae or the laurels. It is a plant family that includes the true laurel and its closest relatives. This family comprises about 2850 known species in about 45 genera worldwide that can include Cinnamomum, bay, sassafras, bay laurel, litsea & cassytha.
Parts used: Inner bark
Habitat & Cultivation: This evergreen tropical tree is native to Sri Lanka, the neighbouring Malabar Coast of India, and Myanmar (Burma) and is also cultivated in South America and the West Indies. this species is found growing from the lowlands up to an altitude of 700 m. C. verum is a hardy species which tolerates a wide range of tropical soils.
Plant type: Perennial
Region: 10-12
Harvest: Give your cinnamon tree two to three years after planting to fully develop. When the bark is brown and the leaves are firm, the plant is ready for harvesting. Carefully Cut away the outer bark until you reach the yellow-orange inner bark then peel away strips of the inner bark until you reach the core of the branch or trunk. Dry the inner bark & let the peeled pieces in a single layer on a window screen or tray. They will curl as they dry until they resemble the cinnamon quills you’re used to.
Growing tips: Make sure the planting site is several feet away from other trees & at least six hours of direct sunlight on most days. Cinnamon plants prefer a rich, well-draining soil-A sandy loam will work well & don't do well in waterlogged soils, so don't plant in heavy clay or hardpan soils. They don't do well when temperatures fall below 40 degrees Fahrenheit or in very dry conditions.
Medicinal information: Cinnamomum verum has been reported to have anti-diabetic, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. Cinnamon oil is also used in dental and pharmaceutical products. Cinnamon leaf oil has been found to be effective in killing mosquito larvae & in some studies the leaf oil is being proposed for use as an insect repellent.
Cautions: Cinnamon usually causes no side effects. But heavy use could irritate your mouth and lips, causing sores. The oil can be a skin irritant & therefore should not be put directly on your skin.

Untitled - Male Orc x Female Human (Part 2)
[Part 1] - [Part 3]
More Fluff.
-
Arzok’s name was embellished with two heart emojis, one on either side of his name. When she looked back up at him, he was smiling ear to ear, only turning away to hop back on his bike.
-
One of the biggest strains on Riley’s relationship with her parents was Riley’s complete lack of husband, and her moderate to severe disinterest in having children. When Riley had her first serious relationship her parents pushed for a wedding, and they pushed for children. When they ended up with neither they practically mourned over their loss. Their disappointment stuck with Riley for a long time.
Dating became a means to an end, and Riley ended up dating a handful of men who would take her where she thought she wanted to be; married with children. They all ended for one reason or another; lasting from a handful of weeks to a year. The last relationship was, in a word, catastrophic. Riley would have never thought that someone who looked so safe on paper would leave her feeling so scared, and uncomfortable...
Which made meeting Arzok such a peculiarity as the orc already proved himself formidable and dangerous, and yet in his company she felt perfectly safe and at ease. As a virtual stranger, Arzok essentially had Riley pinned against the bathroom counter. After everything that had happened within the past 20 minutes it would be perfectly reasonable to be distrustful.
She wasn’t, though. Not one bit.
After agreeing to let Arzok take her home, Riley made quick work of cleaning him up. When they were finished the first aid kit was stashed back under the counter, and they took turns washing their hands. When Riley started to slide off the edge of the counter, Arzok settled one of his hands against her outer thigh to hold her in place.
“You aren’t walking through this bar barefoot, sweetling.”
Riley shifted about for a moment, searching for her shoes. She found them on the counter behind her.
“I’m sure I already caused a bit of a spectacle this evening on the way in. I’ll walk out.”
Riley put her shoes back on. Arzok let her hop down from the counter. The small heel brought pressure to the freshly bandaged cut and Riley barely suppressed a grimace. It wasn’t so painful that she couldn’t walk, but walking was most definitely going to make it worse. Arzok offered his arm, which she thankfully took, and together they ventured out of the bathroom.
They were immediately met by the dragon who had been with Arzok outside. His attention was on a large phone which he held in his massive, clawed grasp. Up close, and in the right kind of lighting, Riley was able to notice the purple tinge to some of his black scales.
“Hey, just wanted both of you to know that I already heard back from the police. Windowless vans are a dime a dozen in these parts, but one missing the driver’s side window and an orc-sized dent in the side should be a solid identifier in the event I got the plate wrong. Which I didn’t, for the record.” The dragon cut his yellow eyes towards Riley and said, “I didn’t have your information, so I gave them Arzok’s. They said they would be sending him whatever report details you might want. But maybe you can call them and explain what happened so our buddy here doesn’t get slapped with destruction of private property if it comes to it.”
Riley had expected his voice to sound like the bones of the earth, something rolling and brassy, harsh like a landslide  but it was a pleasant lilting tenor. With all of his leather clad biker gear, Riley couldn’t help but think how his voice didn’t seem to suit the vibe that radiated off of him. That’s what she got for judging a magick by their appearance (even if Arzok going warrior-mode on a vehicle absolutely fit the bill — it was his kindness afterward that was the real surprise).
“Thank you,” Riley replied. “I really appreciate all the help.”
“This is Nox, by the way,” Arzok introduced.
The dragon nodded, then interrupted the motion. He suddenly looked bashful despite his non-human features. The way his lips curled to expose lethal fangs could have read more as a snarl if it wasn’t for the way his posture dipped and hunched forward.
“Oh, sorry— Nox.” He held out the hand that wasn’t holding the tablet-sized phone. Riley reached out and shook his hand, and marveled in the care he took to be gentle with her.
“Riley. Nice to meet you.”
Arzok and Nox spoke very briefly about their open tabs, and how Nox would cover the bill (“You can get me next time”), before Riley was escorted out of the bar, and back into the street.
“Full disclosure,” Arzok said once they were outside. “I don’t have a human-sized helmet.”
Oh. Yeah. The motorcycles. Of course he would be riding one, why wouldn’t he? He led her towards a massive bike. It was matte black, with chrome details. The body was vintage in style, but built to withstand the weight and size of someone far bigger than a human.
“So long as you’re careful with me, I think we’ll be okay.”
There was a low chuckle as he unlocked a hard shell storage compartment that hung off the back of the bike.
“I’ll be plenty careful with you, sweetheart,” he said. He reached into the compartment and withdrew a leather jacket, which he held out to her. “C’mere. This is all I have for you this time.”
Riley stepped in towards him and Arzok helped her into the jacket. He was quick to roll up the cuffs so she had use of her hands. The leather was soft, supple, and well worn. It smelled like leather, and grease, and something bright but woodsy. It was also stupid heavy.
“This time, huh?”
“Baby, if we’re going to be dating we’re going to have to get you a helmet. At least.” He said it without missing a beat. He secured the zippers and buttons then nodded his approval like the jacket didn’t go down to her knees.
Riley snorted good naturedly, watching as Arzok threw one of his legs over the motorcycle and kicked the stand up. Once he was situated he turned and offered her a hand to help. There was a little bit of a scramble between the length of the jacket, her pencil skirt, and the height of the bike, but once she was in place she felt perfectly secure… until the bike roared to life and the entirety of her body started to vibrate with the force of the engine.
When she tried to stay her distance and hold on to his waist, Arzok tugged her in closer. He first tugged her in by the crook of her legs, then grabbed her hands to guide her arms around him. He patted her hands, a wordless signal to keep them there, then he was shifting the bike into gear and driving away from the bar. It wasn’t like he took off speeding like a bat out of hell, but Riley had never been on a motorcycle. The first few moments of the new experience were unnerving. The ones that followed that were more exciting. She helped him navigate their way to her apartment, pointing directions over his shoulder. When Riley indicated that they were approaching her apartment Arzok cut the engine and they coasted down the block in silence.
Once the bike was safely parked against the curb, Arzok dropped the kickstand then got off the bike. He helped her off not a moment later, offering both of his hands to keep her steady and offer support.
“Thank you,” she said once she was on her feet. “For everything.” There was a gentle burn as heat started to gather in the apples of her cheeks. She was suddenly glad it was dark.
“You think you’re getting away that easily?” He held out his hand, crooking the fingers in a ‘hand it over’ sort of motion.
“I don’t have any money,” she said immediately, then kicked herself for it. Between work, the horror of the evening, and the god-awful hour, her brain was really firing on all cylinders.
“Baby – your phone!” Arzok was laughing, a good hearty laugh that would have made Riley feel embarrassed if he didn’t look so boyish.
Her phone was promptly fished out of her purse. She unlocked it, opened a fresh contact page, and passed it to him. Maybe if she didn’t shy away she could pretend it was an honest-to-god joke. Once Arzok came down from his laughter he focused his attention on the screen. The phone looked far too small in his hands, and Riley wondered if he would need her to add his information herself.
Arzok lifted his eyes suddenly, his pointer finger poised over the screen. With a decisive tap he passed the phone back to her. Riley checked the screen. The first thing she noted was that it was past 1AM, the second was the contact entry.
Arzok’s name was embellished with two heart emojis, one on either side of his name. When she looked back up at him, he was smiling ear to ear, only turning away to hop back on his bike.
“Why do I feel like you’re going to be trouble?” She asked, offering a smile of her own.
“Only the good kind. You’ll love it. Have a good night, Riley.”
There was a part of her that didn’t want this evening to end. It started terrible, but on its current course she was almost afraid to say goodbye. So she didn’t. Offering one last lingering glance, one last shy smile, Riley turned and moved up the stairs to her apartment lobby.
Just as she reached the door, Arzok called out, “Riley.”
She turned back to look at him.
“When you get inside, leave your lights off.”
Confused, Riley asked, “Why?”
Arzok shrugged his shoulders, hitting the kickstand. “If you leave them off, I won’t know where you live. Not exactly. Just in case you’re uncomfortable…” He paused a beat, then added, “Actually, you should leave them off for a bit, just in case.”
The thought struck her as infinitely considerate, and sweet, and then protective. Any onlooker would be able to know that she lived in the building, but if she kept the lights off her exact location within the building would remain a mystery to anyone loitering in the street. Riley wouldn’t have considered it, but Arzok offering it so plainly for her comfort, and then her protection, warmed her deeply. Riley smiled, nodded.
“Goodnight, Arzok. Thank you.”
Once she was inside, the door shut behind her, she heard the thunderous blast of Arzok’s motorcycle starting. By the time she reached the elevator it was gone, having taken off down the road. It wasn’t until she was inside the elevator, on her way up to the 7th floor when Riley realized she was still draped in Arzok’s jacket.
Riley imagined being bold, snapping a salacious selfie in the jacket, sending it to him with something like ‘I think you forgot something’, like she could have meant herself or the jacket.
Instead she launched a quick, seemingly frantic,
YOUR JACKET
She received no immediate reply. Didn’t expect to, either. She went about her dark apartment, prepping for bed. The jacket was hung up on a bundle of three hangers on the back of her closet door. Her clothes were discarded and she went and had a nice long shower. She redressed her foot, and was disappointed when she didn’t have a text by the time she crawled into bed.
It wouldn’t be until the next morning when she would read the response:
Oh no. I guess we’ll just have to meet up so you can give it back to me.

🌵🥒🥫🍭🏳️🌵 - two cacti because I honestly just want to hear you ramble about LitL lore. I stalked that fic religiously and devoured every chapter as they came out like a greedy lil gremlin as soon as I could get my hands on them. Every little insight you give about it is a shot of dopamine straight to my veins.
OK Anon, you'll get an AMA eventually, but right now, I'll answer these.
I already answered the 🥫 question, in a different post.
🥒 Q: Favorite things to write about?
A: Magick scenes! I wish I could've written more of my sweet baby practitioner doing more magick. Nicky likes using his powers to heal and stuff, and he's actually pretty powerful.
🍭 Q: Favorite way you have described something in your works?
A: Nicholas Ryan Ruffilo, how dare you have ambiguously colored eyes, cuz it gives me so much room to describe them.
I loved describing them as partly cloudy skies.
🏳️‍Q: What is a writing style/AU/trope you would like to try out?
A: I would love to go full found “footage” story. Unfortunately, tumblr doesn't really support that format.
🌵🌵Freebie? How do I do a freebie, let alone two?
Is it like writing my prologue like an Old Gods of Appalachia episode?
Somewhere in these woods tonight there is a man clenching his teeth because he has died already.
Fell down on a carpet of pine needles in the kaleidoscope shadows of the grove, the water of the river and the gray-green overhead missing the tinny smell of fish and turpentine. The setting sun painting everything almost indigo. His body cooling as the waterside earth leeched his bones cold.
He should've stayed right there til they found him, pale and empty but he didn't die on his property or in the words behind the house or in any dangerous place some men might fearlessly go...
He died in the Grove, and they never found him.
The Watcher did.
Or is it like…
LOOKING for the MEANING: A LOST in the LABYRINTH Story
Several years ago, Mab's cousin vanished under mysterious circumstances. Her half of the family doesn't believe in their hometown's fairy tales, but the other half believe Ellie was taken and killed by the local legend, the Watcher of the Woods.
While Mab herself isn't a believer, she isn't one to turn away a good mystery. Especially when new information comes to light that could lead right to her cousin's killer. Except it all leads into a wild maze of secret histories, and the minotaur in the center isn't the legend she thinks she's looking for.

Warding
What is warding?
Warding is a form of defensive magick which acts as your first line of defense against negativity. Be this baneful magick from another practitioner or negative entities and general negative energy. There are multiple ways to ward  with each practitioner warding differently to the other. Wards come in all shapes and forms, and there is no limit as to how much warding you should do, you protect yourself as you see fit.
What is baneful warding?
Baneful warding is a form of warding in which the negative that hits a ward gets sent back to its source. Baneful warding is seen as a more "advanced" form of magick, however not too advanced for a novice to do with the appropriate amount of research. Baneful warding can come in the same forms as normal warding would.
Warding jars
Perhaps one of the most common wardings on this post, warding jats usually contain ingredients charged with the intention of warding. These ingredients usually range from herbs to bodily fluids such as saliva or blood. These jars are either buried on the practitioners property, left above entryway, left on an altar, or are carried with the practitioner when they want protection on the go.
A warding jar might contain: ashes of a warding sigil, bodily fluids, herbs and plants, crystals, bones, warding or protection oils, spices, metals, glass shards etc. These jars are then sealed with black or white wax (or are sealed in any other way, with glue, tape or simply just with intention).
When a warding jar is broken, you might find the contents of the jar to become moldy, the jar shatters, the seal might break or the contents of the jar to go off, you also might feel that the jar no longer has its power. When this happens, if the jar is intact, break the seal and empty the contents into the bin/trash or return them back to the earth. You can then cleanse the jar with your preferred method of cleansing and reuse the jar for another ward or spell.
Talismans and symbols
Talismans are objects which are charged with the intention fo protection or warding. A well known example would be the Nazar, known to ward off the evil eye.
Symbols are used to represent something or represent an intention example would be the pentacle/pentagram, a well known protection symbol. Another example could by the Eye of Horus, a symbol used by the Ancient Egyptians for protection, health and restoration.
You can create your own talismans and symbols to aid in warding. These might be used to ward against a specific thing, or can be used as a general ward to all negativity.
A talisman or symbol might break or feel like they're no longer useful once theyve done thier job. If this time comes, you can simply dispose of the old one and create a new one.
Sigils
Sigils are created and can be programmed with any purpose necessary. May this be warding ot cursing, they can be used for almost any working.
Sigils can be burnt to activate them, with the ashes being used in spells to add extra power. Sigils can be put up around your house or around your room for warding. These sigils can look like anything, simply draw them with the intention of warding.
Crystals
Crystals can be placed above entryways  or in windows to act as a ward. Crystals can also be added to spells to give a desired effect or worn as jewellery to act as warding or protection on the go.
Some examples are: black obsidian, black tourmaline, clear quartz, amethyst, hematite.
When a crystal ward has been broken, the crystal might shatter, or go missing. Or you may feel the crystals energy feels different than usual. With crystals you cam simply cleanse and recharge the crystals to be used again!
Spells
Warding spells can be as simple as a dressed candle, or can be a complex ritual. Warding spells differ from practitioner to practitioner. Similar to warding jars, these spells might include the use of herbs, bodily fluids, crystals, plants etc. The methods of creating a warding spell vary, as there is no one way to create one.
When a ward breaks down, you might feel the ward break, or if it does what is intended, you might feel something bounce off the ward. Depending on the negativity sent your way, the ways in which you might feel a warding spell break down vary, this could range from feeling sluggish or nauseous to downright feeling psychic attack. (Whenever this happens, please consult a doctor, mundane before magical. What you may feel is a magical occurrence could be explained by illness, so please consult a doctor of you feel this way constantly)
Warding is a great form of protection which is used very often in a persons practice. While not all practitioners use warding, this is just to inform you of the ways you can ward to keep yourself safe in your practice!

Occultism & Chaos Magick Through the Lens of Islamic Teachings: True, but False.
As I go on this journey to learn about Islam, I'm finding something very interesting about the entire framework of how Islam approaches the unseen.
Full disclosure, I am a former pagan, former occultist, and former chaos magician. Practicing, by the way, not just your typical crystal girlie. I was in the muck. And coming out of the muck, its interesting how everything I ever learned about spirituality before Islam fits into Islam, one way or another. Not the doctrine or the perspectives mind you, but the actions and the results. It fits in a way that it simply does not fit into secularism or any other religious practice I have seen.
Chaos magick for instance, also known as results-based magick, the secular world says "No it is fake, what you saw and what you heard never happened, the story you lived is false. All your results were just one big crazy coincidence. Let us gaslight you and talk down to you until you change your story to fit OUR narrow view of reality." But that perspective is no less crazy than believing in magick in a secular world! I'm not only talking about atheism either. I'm talking about academic perspectives, cultural perspectives, I'm even talking about lukewarm Christianity and how they perceive it. If its not their narrow idea of what the non-physical can be, tightly wrapped up in a little box like they personally expect, then it is made up.
But what is rational about any of that? Ignoring your eyes and ears for the sake of books written by ordinary men with ordinary weaknesses and shortcomings? It's senseless. No ordinary human being should ever be worshiped. Human beings are made weak. We cannot handle the burden of being worshiped the way Allah can. That is one of Allah's gift to us in my opinion, that He takes on that responsibility because He knows it would only break us to put it all upon ourselves, but I digress.
Think of it like this: you don't watch the boiling pot on the stove turn bones and water into chicken stock and think "Oh, it's a coincidence that there's chicken stock here now, the bones and water and heat did nothing. Our books say nothing about this, so it cannot be." If someone said that to you after you cooked dinner, you wouldn't throw out your broth. You wouldn't restart dinner to fit their views. You would, rightly, roll your eyes and tell them to read a new book! And then they have the nerve to act like something is wrong with you while you're in the thick of the work they insist isn't happening.
Islam is the first doctrine I've seen that doesn't even attempt such nonsense. Islam tells me "Yes it is real, but it is a farse. A fabrication. It is a twisted imitation of the power of Allah and that is why all you put out always comes back to hurt you no matter how good your intentions. These forces will only turn your desires against you. Allah is the real source of power and change," and that is a much more sensible reaction to the reality of the situation in my opinion.
You can't tell me, if you saw a lightning bolt shoot down from the sky in response to your actions calling for such, that you would turn away and say "Bah, a coincidence." How many coincidences am I supposed to have then? Am I a lightning rod? A superconductor? If that's the case, I should be studied for my electrical properties! But I think we all know that if you hooked me up to an amp reader, you'd find nothing out of the ordinary. I'm only a normal human being.
Islam doesn't tell you "Do not worry" it tells you "Give your worries to Allah." and that is far more beautiful and far more practical than a bunch of self-absorbed academics who worship other self-absorbed academics telling you to just pretend it didn't happen. You will not heal most people in need if your approach is to just take drugs as a first resort rather than a last resort, pay $200 a week to have a stranger gaslight you over a life they will never live, and then institutionalize them if they get worse instead of better.
And why would they get better? You have told them it is all up to them, that they must be strong, that they must rely on nobody but themselves even if they are at their weakest, that they must emerge from this stronger than before, that they must deny their own eyes and ears, that there is no point beyond themselves and no purpose beyond chasing their own desires. Who wouldn't get worse hearing that? That's awful. You are sabotaged, and then punished again when their actions break you down even more. The pressure that secular psychology puts on people is absolutely insane. That is why I now believe Allah is far more merciful than secularism or occultism.
And that is not to talk badly of therapy or medicine as a whole. When done right they are good and necessary, but that is not what secular medicine actually provides most of the time and it is a shame. I'm just thankful that the word of the prophets is not only in existence but free.
Islam is as merciful as Allah. Islam tells me that I don't need to spend money I don't have and put myself into debt to receive wisdom and be guided toward healing, and toward results. Good results. Results that will bring me the peace that occult practices never could, or would even if they could, because that was never what Satan intended for any of us. Satan is real, and he is selfish, and he is clever. Satan is a lot like the idea of a genie in popular media, or a monkey's paw. Wicked spirits will give you exactly what you ask for, and it will be your ruin. Your desires are taken and used against you, and you are powerless to stop it without help. Allah is all knowing, and all merciful. Allah gives you what is best for you, even if you don't know it's what you want yet. Even in the thick of such sinful things, Allah is waiting for us to realize the truth and trust Him again, so he can truly help us.
That is why Allah will not tell me my eyes and ears are wrong because some random upper class western men from the 1800s and 1900s all said so. Rather than being told to suppress, and ignore, and dismiss myself as a credible witness, I am told instead to have patience in my heart and turn my gaze in the right direction. It's not that my experiences are a farce, it's the path I've been led onto that is a farce. Allah is the key and the answer, and He asks nothing of me in return but faith and patience. Alhamdulillah for that.

Topics to Study that will Enhance your Witchcraft
Tumblr media
There comes a time in every witch's practice where they realize that they've read all the 'Witchcraft 101' books they can stomach. After a while, they all start repeating each other, and though there are some books taking truly unique viewpoints on witchcraft, there still comes a time when you may start itching to branch out and learn something different. That doesn't mean you have to give up your witchcraft study, however. You can study topics adjacent to witchcraft that will really help you develop your interests and give you new perspectives on your practice. The Arts: This is perhaps one of my favorite topics. You can research art history, looking for Pagan influences in the arts, OR you can study applied arts. Learn how to paint or draw! Try your hand at writing poetry or short charms! Write devotional music for your deity! Learn how to create something sacred as a way to deepen your practice. Divination: for a lot of witches, witchcraft and divination go hand in hand. I learned to read the tarot before I dedicated myself to my witchcraft practice. But perhaps you haven't dipped your feet into the wonderful world of divination. Give it a shot! It can be an amazing way to tap into a relationship with your deity, your understanding of your own intuition, or even messages from the universe. However you practice, divination can help you. So dive headlong into the world of tarot, runes, astrology, or throwing the bones. Folklore: Check out legends from your area, or legends from the area your family comes from. There can be a lot to discover in these old tales passed down from generation to generation. You can learn about local land spirits, landmarks, and even the flora and fauna of the area. Genealogy and Ancestral Religions: Find out where your family comes from and study the religions of that area. This can bring so much richness and focus to your practice, and is essential when working with the ancestors. Imagine being able to add a Celtic, or Hindu, or African flavor to your witchcraft as a way to tie yourself to your ancestors. This is a great way to really ground yourself in your practice! Herbalism: I know a little here and there about certain herbs, but I've never made a full study of herbalism. It's a huge topic with a few different concentrations. You can look at magickal properties of plants, medicinal properties of plants, or folkloric histories of plants. You can use that knowledge to make charms and sachets, or you can be more practical and make soaps and salves. If you're interested in green witchery, explore the plant kingdom! History of witchcraft: This can be a really sad yet inspiring study. Traditionally, witches have been maligned as a source of bad luck and ill will, and have been persecuted as such. But studying our past can help us uncover our sources of power and strength. Local geography and settlements: Knowing the history, geology, geography, and natural landmarks of the place you live can definitely give you a leg up when trying to connect to the genius loci, or spirit of place. For example, do you know the places of power where the original inhabitants of the land used to gather? That would be a great place to visit to try and bring some of that power into your work. Do you know where to find sacred minerals in your area? Minerals you've mined have more power than anything store-bought. Physical Sciences: Science and spirituality are not mutually exclusive. In face, I've always seen them as going hand-in-hand. You can believe in a higher power, and also marvel at the efficiency of a cell. You can study astrology and astronomy, and marvel at how the spinning of our solar system and galaxy resemble the spinning of an atom. It's ALL sacred. It's ALL important. Psychology: A lot of our feelings about spirituality and religion can be studied from a psychological perspective. As for myself, I've really enjoyed reading the works of Carl Jung, who set the stage for a lot of my understanding of tarot. But Jung isn't the only name in the game, and you can find all sorts of interesting psychological theories that will inform and deepen your spiritual practice. Social Issues: As witches, we tend to see the sacred where others do not. And finding empathy with those that struggle can be a difficult, but rewarding path. How do you want to leave the world a better place than you found it? Specific types of Witchery: Like kitchen witchery, hedge witchery, chaos magick, green witchery (see herbalism above), etc. There are TONS of books out there that extend past the "witchcraft 101' model and delve into different types of witchcraft. Find what it is that really interests you, and do a search for books on that topic. You'll find more than enough to keep yourself busy! What about you? What do you study in conjunction with your witchcraft? How does it boost your studies and your understanding? Please let me know in the comments. Blessed be! Read the full article

The Walls Between Us by Avra Margariti
The Wall wasn’t there one night, until the next morning, it was. It sliced our property right through the middle.
Published in our December 9, 2022 newsletter. Full story is under the cut.

The Wall wasn’t there one night, until the next morning, it was. It sliced our property right through the middle. Our mother’s green garden and the main house where my sister lived vanished behind stone. Gray and gritty, it shot up toward the cirrus clouds. I was left with the garden shed, which I had converted into a studio apartment months ago while trying to figure my life out after university.
Over the next weeks, speculating about the Wall became people’s favorite activity. It came from outer space, some said, because the runes engraved on it didn’t belong to any language we recognized. No, it was the fae folk, someone else said. Our town had offended the Unseelie Court, and its Queen magicked up the Wall around us in retaliation. No matter how far anyone traveled along either side, there was no end, nor a beginning. Some of us tried to vault over the Wall, with various trips to the local doctor’s office afterward. Others took to scaling it with similar results. An old man--a dynamite-hoarder--tried to blow the Wall’s foundations up but only earned himself a pair of singed eyebrows and a mouthful of gunpowder.
It wasn’t just our town, we suspected; it was the whole world. But all I cared about was my older sister. Phone calls and messages proved impossible to reach her, as did most other forms of modern communication. So I became creative.
One late evening, I lit a fire in my half of the garden and kept feeding it until it blazed. I knew my sister hadn’t left our house, same way I stayed put in the garden shed. She was there, on the other side, through stone and thrumming magic. I only needed to reach her. Smoke signals, then Morse code, which I tapped against the runes, now half-covered by moss and an explosion of colorful graffiti.
On nights when I clutched my sister’s graduation photo to my chest or scrolled through her old social media, full of crooked smiles and chipped nail polish, I worried that the Wall wasn’t a wall at all. What if it stretched and stretched, a block of stone that had engulfed the other side, demolished it to nothing but powdered bone and brick?
That was when the swallow came. It was spring, and I’d began working on our mother’s garden again. I figured the herbs and vegetables would come in handy if the town’s food supplies ran out. The swallow sailed through the blue of the sky, landing on the shade the Wall cast on my side.
It held an ultrasound in its beak--I was going to have a nephew. I touched the grayscale laminate and felt against my fingertips my sister’s fierceness: fear and love and the will to make a family in this brand-new coward world. I didn’t ask the swallow why it hadn’t brought me a letter. Part of me suspected my sister and I no longer spoke the same language. But I didn’t need a letter. Not when the swallow’s gift was so utterly precious.
I went into the garden shed and returned with the engagement ring our grandmother once gave me. I wasn’t going to need it anytime soon, but I thought my sister might. I kissed the ring before I carefully settled it in the swallow’s beak and watched the bird fly away, circling high over the wall until it disappeared over the other side.
I expected a wedding photo next. Perhaps some white tulle or sugared almonds. Instead I got a pacifier and gasped with the agony of childbirth, screamed through the silence where a baby’s cries should have been. I cradled the pacifier in my hands, knowing I would never meet my nephew even if the Wall were to dissolve the very next morning.
I dreamed of my sister and I growing up. The nights she would drive us to the hills, starry-eyed and frost-brained as we watched the sky and sipped milkshakes until dawn. The time she chased my school bullies away with a rusty pipe and a banshee wail.
I lost track of all that we sent back and forth via a different bird each time, the way I lost track of days and months. A tear-soaked monogrammed handkerchief when our mother died of sadness. My new girlfriend’s empty lipstick tube. A poem about sisters and birds made of graffiti words found all over the Wall, pieced together and made whole.
The Wall was there one day. I was sprawled out on the grass beside it, staring at the sky, the same sky my sister saw on the other side. The bird was a swallow, same as the first time. I sat up as it swooped down, laying a cherry blossom in my cupped palms. And I cried as my fingers closed around it, my tongue greedily tasting the dust of a wall, crumbling.

Hi, my loves and welcome to WiccaNow. Recently I’ve been sharing guides about the magickal and medicinal properties of all my favourite herbs and plants, like this post about the magickal properties of basil. I’ve also shared a guide to aloe, another about using apples in magick and a post all about catnip along with my most recent post about the magickal properties of comfrey. Today I want to continue along this path by sharing my guide to the magickal properties of daisies. Daisies are an ancient healing herb which have been used for centuries to treat various medical ailments such as wounds, broken bones and gastric distress. Their magickal properties include love, friendship, divination, healing and protection along with many others which are detailed below. Disclaimer: Any medicinal benefits given here are a product of my own research and as such should not be taken over the advice of trained medical professionals. If you are ill, please go and see a doctor. Always make sure that anything you consume is 100% safe. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor or midwife before consuming something you haven’t tried before. If you enjoy reading about the magickal properties of different herbs and plants, check out this gorgeous plant magick grimoire we’ve created! It contains 29 beautifully illustrated pages for all our favourite plants. The best bit? This version comes as a digital download, so you don’t have to wait through pesky shipping times or delays. What’s not to love? Check it out below or keep scrolling to read all about the magick of fennel! History of Daisies Daisies, the most common species of which is called Bellis Perennis, are part of the Asteraceae family. They’re also known as the common daisy, lawn daisy or English daisy and used to go by the name of bruisewort and woundwort. Daisies are native to northern, central and western Europe but have been naturalised all over the world in temperate regions. Daisies have been around for thousands of years, with evidence that they were grown by the ancient Egyptians as early as 2,200BC for use in herbal remedies. There are stone carvings depicting what looks like daisies from 3000BC. Many herbalists believed that because the flower opened during the day and closed again at night, which mimics the eye, they would help heal ailments of the eye. In ancient Rome, daisy oil was extracted and used to soak bandages to make them sterile and to help wounds heal. They were so beloved, in fact, that the Roman legions would take sacks full of daisies with them for use after battle. During the 16th century, the famous herbalist John Gerard recommended dairies as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding, migraines, swelling and bruises. Henry the 8th reportedly ate platefuls of daisies to cure his stomach ulcers and it was believed that daisies crushed into wine and drunk for 15 days would cure insanity. During the hippy movement in the 60s and 70s, daisies became a common motif and came to symbolise all things “flower-power”. Fun Facts about Daisies The name daisy comes from “day’s eye” because a daisy will open its petals in the morning and close them again at night. Daisies are edible and if you pick the unopened, young buds, you can pickle them much like you would a caper. You can eat the young leaves of a daisy as part of a salad. The older the leaves the more bitter they become. According to some, cows won’t eat daisies and if they do eat them, it will make their milk taste bitter. Daisies are the flower of spring, with old folklore stating that spring hasn’t started until you’ve stepped on at least 12 daisies. Daisies grow on every continent except Antarctica. There are over 20,000 different types of daisies. A gerbera is a form of daisy and is one of the most well-known flowers in the world. It’s relatively new to Europe though as it was discovered in South Africa in 1884 and arrived in England in 1890. The Netherlands is the biggest grower and distributor of Gerberas in the world.
Gerberas are so beautiful aren’t they? They are always so sunny and bright and lighten the mood for everyone who sees them. Medicinal Uses of Daisies Anti-inflammatory Antimicrobial Antifungal Daisies are strongly astringent, meaning they help to bind wounds together faster. May help with coughs and colds May help with liver problems May help to brighten skin May aid digestive health May help those suffering from heavy menstruation May help those suffering from postpartum bleeding May help to reduce fever May help to heal broken bones Mild laxative effects The magickal properties of daisies are varied and fun. How can you not love these unassuming, happy little flowers? Magickal Properties of Daisies The magickal properties of daisies have been used for a long time in love spells. Most of us will have already used daisy magick when younger. Remember pulling out daisy...   Click here to read this complete article. Warding
I've covered warding recently in my protection post. But here I will go into more detail on what warding is, the most popular ways to ward and how to create them as well as when to know when a ward is no longer useful or has been broken. I will also go into baneful warding and what it is.

✨ Types of magick ✨
Elemental: This magick is practiced by honouring/acknowledging the elements: Water, Earth, Air, Fire and Spirit, and incorporating them into your spellwork. Those who practice elemental magick usually dedicate different areas of the altar to each element, and call upon them during spells and rituals.
Lunar: This type of magick honours the moon and it’s energy and phases. When practicing kind of magick most people prefer to work during the night hours rather than during the day.
Green: This is the practice of gathering plants, herbs and flowers and using them in herbal magick, this can be done by creating mixes/blends of different plants or primally using plants, herbs and flowers in spellwork.
Hedge: A type of magick oriented around more spiritual practice like astral projection, lucid dreaming, spiritwork and healing.
Kitchen: Magick that is worked specifically through kitchen tasks, such as herbal mixtures, brewing, baking, and cooking. This practice honours many aspects of the natural world; including herbs, flowers, crystals, fey, and the elements.
Cottage: Taking a step further from kitchen magick, this way of working is weaved into every day tasks around the house, including tasks for loved ones, such as cooking, cleaning etc.
Garden: Magick that is mostly, if not all herbal and botanical-related. A witch that practices garden magick will feel closely connected to earth and could be considered a green witch.
Crystal: Magick that works with stones and crystals. Many witches use this form of practice as it’s so reliable, as well as having a vast range of crystals with even wider range of properties to choose from, wether it’s using crystals in healing techniques or chakra balance and crystal meditation, they have so many magickal uses to try!
Faery/Fey: ! DO NOT TRY THIS AS A BABY WITCH ! This Magick is based around the fae and faeries, and the communication with them during spells and rituals.
Chaos: A form of magick using new, non-traditional methods, in which the practitioner push their will and intention through the universe. It’s a very new and individualistic practice, with may fragments from other common forms of magick. Sigils would fall under this category.
Bone: This magick involves collecting and use animal bones in practice.
Grey: A neutral practice, witches that work with grey magick neither benefits or harms others. Grey magick may also both harm and benefit at the same time, balancing and neutralizing.
Space: Magick that involves working with the planets and stars, by focusing their magick and incorporating properties of each/ planet(s).
Divination: This magickal practice involves using tools to be able to predict the future, ask questions and receive guidance. Tools incude: tarot, pendulum, wax readings etc.
Dream work: This magick involves keeping a ‘dream diary’, in which you can study your dreams to gain better perspective, not only in a psychological sense but in a psychic one too.
Spirit work: Those who practice spirit work talk to spirits to help find guidance, usually though tools. This can be partially helpful for those who work with Deities.
Shadow work: Shadow work is the magickal process of exploring your inner darkness, or ‘shadow self’. This practice uncovers all the repressed traumas, and helps you find a brighter path to enlightenment.

What type of witch or what type of witchcraft would each batboy be suited to?
The Batfam and Witchcraft
Witchcraft is an extremely vast spectrum: the experiences or “types” listed are not the only ones out there, nor do I claim to know everything about these types. Even if you do not believe in this practice, it is real to a large portion of people (myself included) so please be respectful about this post. This is for fun and for educational purposes only.
warnings: Mentions of death, animal death, spirits, bones, etc
word count: 2,750~
I was so excited to get this request and totally did not just write all of this in one sitting the second I had time to get all my witchy books off my shelf.
Alfred Pennyworth
I think it goes without saying that Alfred is a Kitchen Witch
I’m sorry but those amazing dishes he cooks? How perfect his cooking is? Witchcraft
He spends a lot of time within the kitchen, might as well add a bit of his belief into everything he makes
It used to be tiny things that he only served himself, he didn't want to intrude on another persons belief so he kept it within his dishes
Stirring his morning tea clockwise with his intentions for the day, whether its health, patience, etc. Then stirring his evening tea counterclockwise to cleanse himself of any energies he encountered throughout the day
Placing garnishes in the shape of sigils or a pentacles
Tiny things that are subtle and powerful
As Bruce grew older and started to understand more of Alfred’s beliefs, Alfred was able to share his path and share his energy through his food
Alfred and Bruce made their own little coven within each other as they learned and practiced together
Alfred began to put up posters in the kitchen showing the properties of certain herbs to look back on later as he cooks
He has so many books in the kitchen on the metaphysical properties of herbs, crystals, elements, etc
So it comes as no surprise that Alfred is also a Green Witch
Alfred likes to use certain herbs within his cooking for their properties
He loves to sprinkle a little lavender into every bit of tea he gives the boys, its properties of calming and easing the mind is just a little bit of solace for their lives
Keeping crushed egg shells for its protection
The stockpile of salt and pepper is insane
As the boys slowly started to get introduced into the coven, Alfred quickly became the expert of all things earth bound
Which is why Alfred considers himself an elemental witch as well
He honors the elements in his practice
Lighting candles and using fire to cook and bless his meals, using different types of waters (rain water, moon water, etc), harnessing smoke and herbs and thanking the elements for allowing him to use their energy
So Alfred’s cooking does have a little bit of magick in it
Bruce Wayne
After Martha and Thomas passed, Bruce became much more aware of Alfred’s practice
He was taken under Alfred’s wing and was introduced into witchcraft from a mundane everyday standpoint
Having a little bit of magick in their everyday lives was something they looked forward to every dinner together
Bruce learned a lot from cooking with Alfred, but eventually, he branched off to research on his own, to define his own belief systems and practice since no two practice is identical
As much as Bruce would love to be a Kitchen Witch, he just doesn't have the calling for it
But using the elements was always something that fascinated him, especially when he began to understand that each element had its own unique energy
He was the one who taught each of his kids to cast a circle with the elements, even if they didn't use it, he sleeps better knowing they can use that as protection and amplification
Alfred’s collection of books soon swarmed the kitchen so Bruce moved them to the library, where it became riddled with metaphysical books for Bruce to scour through in his free time
Alfred constantly found Bruce in the library and would always remind him to take a break and eat something lest he get burnt out
Witchcraft is vast, and downright intimidating to research
So Bruce started at the beginning
He studied the history of witchcraft and the ancient practice, watching how it evolved overtime to become more modernized and easily accessible for everyone
With his feet in the roots of witchcraft, Bruce defines himself as a Traditional Witch
He honors the “old” ways in his own practice while still adding more modern twists to it that he enjoys
Looking into his ancestors and its ties into history, trying to heal generational trauma so he can not only heal from his parents death, but become a better father for his kids
As time grew on, Bruce became more attached to ceremonial magick, eventually evolving to become a Ceremonial Witch
He holds rituals and ceremonies in a very high regard and blocks out time to honor the past and look forward
With each ceremony, he never fails to ask the elements for their assistance
Old habits die hard
Dick Grayson
Dick learned from both Bruce and Alfred, but similar to Bruce, he had to branch off to figure his own path out
But unlike Bruce, Dick had a hard time labelling himself to one type of practice
He enjoyed kitchen magick, elemental magick, ceremonial, and many other types truly fascinated him, so it was hard to pinpoint exactly what he practiced
Dick wanted to try a little bit of everything, to see why some people practiced this type while others didn't, he wanted to try everything to see what clicked
It took Bruce handing Dick a book on each of the different practices of witchcraft for Dick to realize there was a label for his practice: eclectic
He pulls a lot of his practice from other forms to create his own, he essentially has his own set of rules that he learned over time from practice and experience
Bruce and Alfred had very strong ties to the elements and that rubbed off on Dick a lot, to the point that Dick was extremely excited to try out a Sea Witch path
When Alfred first showed Dick the different types of water, that jumpstarted his fascination with the element
He uses water a lot in his practice: tracing the different types of moon waters and using them accordingly, collecting different types of rainwater from different weather patterns, and most importantly, sea water and lake water
It didn’t take long for Dick to get into the folklore of the ocean on his journey, enough to leave offerings for sirens and mermaids as a form of gratitude for allowing him to share the oceans energy
Sometimes he visits the ocean just for permission to cast certain spells, or to see if a drifting energy wishes to help him in the ceremony
Bruce was a little worried about Dicks affinity for Sirens, mermaids, and the fae since they aren’t forgiving creatures, nor are they creatures you want to cross
But Dick had a way
You can often find him rolling his pants up and walking along the sore to find shells, crystals, and to collect sand
Not without thanking the ocean of course
He brings an empty bag to the ocean every time and he leaves with it filled
After tracing the moon and stars a lot to see its affect on water, Dick learned enough about astrology to consider himself a Cosmic Witch as well
He often times his ceremonies with the moon or planets because it has such a strong tie to the water in his practice
He knows enough about astrology as well but he isn't too terribly invested in it for personality purposes in others, rather, for learning himself
Theres a reason he was so connected to the ocean, it has terrifying depth that is uncharted—he's scared of it and terrified of seeing it within himself
His uncharted emotions and repressed memories, he finds comfort knowing he can explore the depths of his character alongside the oceans warmth
Jason Todd
As a kid, Jason followed the path that the others taught him, it was a comforting one full of light and hope
But after his death, he saw the other side of witchcraft
He was left reeling from the experience, traumatized by what he felt and saw within the world he once thought he knew
Witchcraft is not all happy and healing, it can be terrifying and incredibly dark
Death was something that Jason tried to shrug off, saying he's died once he’s not scared of it anymore, he can face anything
But inside, he remembered what it felt like in his last moments and the choke of his first breath
So Jason explored the darker side of witchcraft, and Bruce let him, Bruce showed him the history of stereotypes and where “darker” magick originated from until Jason got a firm grasp on his new journey: Death Magick
Death Magick taught Jason how to overcome his fears surrounding death, to be at peace with the end of his life because death magick is about harnessing the energies of those who have passed
Since Jason himself had passed, he has a strong tie to spirits
He started small, finding dead insects and saying a small blessing for them, introducing himself to them and befriending their spirit
Finding roadkill on patrol and putting on a clean pair of gloves to move the poor animal off the road—the spirits of these animals were simply grateful that they could no longer be harmed
These small acts of kindness became routine for Jason, until he gathered enough courage to ask the spirits for help
The spirits enjoyed having someone to talk to, someone who respected them, so they let him use their body in his practice
Bone throwing, bone offerings, wings for their ties to the element or air,  getting permission to collect graveyard dirt, etc
He's always very respectful to those who have passed because he saw himself in them
Finding lost souls and guiding them around Gotham, helping them with their unfinished ties to the mortal plane
On this “darker” path, Jason came to realize just how cruel this world is, he’s always known, but now he can see that he can do something about it without violence
So he became a Gray Witch
A witch who constantly walked the line between “good” and “evil”, but he understood that there is no such thing as good and evil, as black and white, only fairness and justice
Jason is the batboy you go to if you want to hex a bitch, because he will if he deems it to be fair and right based on the context
He, much like most witches who practice baneful magic, have a moral code—they aren't inherently evil
Doesn't make his practice any less intimidating, but he is a strong advocate for baneful witches
He will crush the stereotypes because hexing is simply a form of protection and standing up for yourself
Tim Drake
Much like Dick, Tim had a hard time labelling himself, so he considered himself an Eclectic Witch
He didn't want to be tied down to one particular practice, but needed a belief system, he needed structure, he needed rules
But Dick showed him that Tim could make his own based on his own experiences and his own research
After spending too much time with Jason, Tim realized he had a lot of clairsenses that he thought was just his own mind
Tim’s mind is powerful, so its not surprising that Tim can firmly believe in something and have the energy be cast outwards through his senses
Tim relies on these spiritual senses of sight, touch, hearing, etc to understand the burning questions he's always had about life and witchcraft
Every experience he faced gave him answers but left him with so many  unanswered questions
He experienced contacting spirits with Jason and immediately pestered him about the after life and exactly what happens
What drives Tim through his practice is just to understand
With his clairs, Tim realized how much potential he had with bridging the gap between the mortal plane and the spiritual
He spent months researching astral projecting and even longer trying to figure out the Akashic Records, personal and general
Tim wanted to learn, to understand, and what better way then interacting with the astral realm?
It took him so many attempts but he eventually crossed the bridge and was able to see himself become a Hedge Witch
He crosses the boundary between worlds and interacts with spirits along the way, oftentimes passing information to Jason who utilizes it the most
As Tim trained in the astral to develop his senses, to learn more, he interacted with more divine beings
He’s extremely open minded towards any being who comes his way to help him, either with his journey or in his personal life
Whether its a Hellenic, Norse, Kemetic, or Roman entity, he remains open to any and all
It doesn't take long for him to find a deities who want to help him train and grow, reminding him to rest and to overcome his own insecurities
Each deity left him with important lessons, and he never forgets them
He even honors each deity with their own altar so they know he still remembers and embraces them
Alfred picks up on this pretty quickly and learns a bit about Tim’s beliefs, Tim even helped Alfred set up altars for the home and for all of the elements since they all played such pivotal parts in the families practices
Any energy that wants to talk to him and give him a message, Tim will respect and listen, because even the wind has enlightening messages drifting by your ears, its up to you to listen
Damian Wayne
Damian joined the coven and was immediately able to learn about so many different pathways and find out which one called to him the most
Because of his childhood, Damian already had an interesting set of morals
So learning about Jasons path was the most intriguing
Because Damian didn't have to shun the part of himself that longed for justice, the part of him that seemed “inhumane”
He could embrace it alongside his brother
So he became a Gray witch, constantly walking across the boundaries and learning his own set of morals, not the ones imposed by his childhood or the ones society forced onto him, his own
It was freeing, liberating even
Seeing Jason honor dead animals and connecting with their spirits was something that Damian immediately became interested in (despite hating how much he was learning from Jason)
Damian wasn't able to connect with dead spirits as easily as Jason but he trained it, he was stubborn enough to meditate constantly to become more aware of the spirits he wanted to connect with
Unlike Jason, Damian preferred connected with animal spirits and animal spirits alone
They are less draining and he was able to connect with them easier because he has such a warm love for animals
Using animal parts in his practice became a constant, being able to honor these beautiful creatures while still loving his own was amazing
He took after Bruce with his practice however, using animal parts within his own ceremonies and rituals
Damian liked the power behind saving energy for planned ceremonies, something Bruce taught him how to do
So he also practices ceremonial magick, enough that he writes his own ceremonies to be done with each animal
He writes each name and death date down in a journal so he can continue to honor them in the future
Overtime, Damian built up his character and figured himself out through his path of justice and learning
Within figureing himself and animals out, he still struggled with bridging the gap between himself and other people
Thats where Dick taught him about astrology
Dick knows surface level astrology, but it was enough for a spark to go off in Damian
At first, Damian hated how easily his character was predicted by the stars, how easily he was put into a box
It was almost insulting to his being that he was simply a bunch of signs instead of himself
But after enough research, he realized that he could use astrology to validate his own feelings, to understand the parts of himself he didnt before in the past
He’s able to use astrology to understand people
All he had to do was memorize the signs and houses and he can know everything about someone? It was that easy? Instead of just guessing? (Learning astrology isn't easy, Damian is just a tiny stubborn genius)
Putting people into boxes allowed him to quickly assess new people entering his life, to finally understand how other people’s minds work along with his own
Even if there were initial holes in the logic that pestered him, hes grateful for a tool he can use to understand the world a bit better
Annoying his brothers with it is also a bonus

General Info
Symphytum Officinale - Commonly known as Comfrey, this plant grows wild in North America, Asia and Europe. It is tall, often growing to be around 6 ft in height. Comfrey has large, bristly leaves and tiny purple flower clusters. It tends to grow near water, such as by rivers or ponds. In both magic and herbalism, the leaves and roots are used.
Comfrey is likely carcinogenic (cancer causing) and is known to cause liver damage if taken internally in high doses. Some experts also advice against the topical application of comfrey due to poisonous components that can pass through the skin. Always consult with medical professionals before using comfrey. Be sure to do your own research and be well informed before using any kind of herb, plant or alternative remedy.
