I feel like people really underestimate the importance of Dick being the first Robin. Like, reverse Robin AUs are interesting and such, but I just hope people realize that in the context of canon, they would never work. The reason Batman and Robin ever works is because the first Robin was Dick Grayson specifically. Because Bruce would never have taken in any child if Dick's tragedy hadn't specifically happened to mirror his own experience. Dick Grayson was the only one Bruce truly saw himself in first, because the fundamental event that defines them is the same. And he sees the opportunity to help someone the way he was never helped, to make sure that Dick didn't go down the dark path he did. So, my point here is that the only one Bruce actually made the choice to take in, the only one who could kickstart it all, is Dick Grayson, because he is the only one with whom Bruce could immediately empathize and connect with.
This never happened with any other Robin. He took in Jason because he missed Dick, he took in Tim because Tim forced himself into the role, he took in Steph because he was trying to make Tim come back to being Robin, and Dick made Damian Robin. Of course, he loved all of them, and they all have their unique relationships with Bruce that are very important and inform their characters, and he does need them too. But he specifically formed this connection with Dick that made Dick the only person he ever considered taking in. It took a very specific set of circumstances in Dick's backstory that made Bruce commit an impulse adoption that just isn't really present in any other Robin's story. And the reason Jason or Tim or Steph or Damian or anyone else whom Bruce has taken under his wing even got that chance is because of the work Dick Grayson put into Bruce Wayne.
Before Dick, Bruce was reckless and didn't care at all about himself, to the point of almost being borderline suicidal. He was more brutal, more violent, etc. The reason all this changed, is because of Dick Grayson specifically. He was the one with whom Bruce opened up, with whom Bruce was forced to grow up, to take responsibility and learn to take care of both Dick and himself. Dick, to Bruce was the one who brought "color to their [his and Alfred's] monochrome lives." Dick Grayson's specific brand of happiness and joy changed Bruce for the better. Dick gave Bruce hope. This is true for other Robins too, but only because they followed the precedent that Dick Grayson set, only because they slid into his role (they have their own interesting relationships with Bruce, but this specifically is from Dick that other Robins carried on. A legacy, if you will). Dick Grayson turned Bruce into the kind of man who would become a serial adopter.
Without his influence, without his precedent, there would be no Batfamily, because Bruce would never have gotten to the point where he would be able or willing to take in someone else and care for them properly (It took living through his trauma again to get him to take Dick in lmao). Hell, there would be no Batman because Bruce would have gotten himself killed a long time ago if Dick hadn't helped him learn self-care. Dick knows Bruce best, because he understands him on a fundamentally deeper level than anyone else in the world. And he's the only one who can make Bruce open up at his rawest, most downtrodden state. He is the only one who can give Bruce at his lowest that kind of hope. There is no Robin without Dick Grayson. It's literally a tribute to his parents, using their colors and the name his mother called him. He created that identity as a symbol of hope. He helped Bruce become the kind of man who could and would let other people that he had to care for into his life. Without Dick Grayson, you can simply forget about any other Robin or the Batfamily as a concept even existing.

Toma and Griff's turn, to hopefully let you know them more-
Part 1 feat Halion and Morpho
More detailed breakdown:
Toma (They/Them) :
Heisenberg - His vibes... being quite lax, and jovial even in such gross and visceral situations, the way he holds himself just gives me Toma vibes
Wolfwood - I literally know fuck all about Trigun but whenever I see him I just think of young Toma
Nandor - When I saw him in the Gym episode I immediately changed Toma's main bodytype to reflect it, it just felt like them. Also some of Nandor's mannerisms Toma would totally have-
Mads/Hannibal???? - this specific picture of Mads was what made me design Toma in the first place 😂 the vibes were immaculate. I've never watched Hannibal but I've seen pictures of Mads all bloody and disheveled and that just screams Toma to me haha (the clean suited version however is NOT them)
Griffin:
Harry Hart - Little Izu back in 2015 came home from watching Kingsman and immediately designed Griff. Back then he was a... quite a bit nicer and less traumatised so was far more gentlemanly 😅 (now the gentleman side is just a persona for manipulating people)
Silco - I mean the scene where Silco breaks into Marcus' house and waits for him to arrive home is pretty much how Toma and Griff first properly met. His persona of making people thing he is superior and in power, but is actually a little pathetic (said with affection)- he also shares a lot of little mannerisms with Griff.
Ed Nygma - (Ed is the Batman Riddler) So he is calculated and scheming, but he's also erratic, and irritable. Early in the series he is friendly and chatty, but later you see that persona crumble, similar to Griff where he tries to fool others onto thinking he is charming.
Astarion - currently using the Origin Editor mod to turn Astarion into Griff for my Dark Urge (Toma) game. It's funny to see how they share a lot of little mannerisms in the way they act. Griffin is also a rogue in 5e, an Arcane Trickster, Astarion's hunger for power and to be taken seriously, hungry enough to ascend, feels very Griff to me
If you got this far, hope you learned some more about these two!

Not sure if this has been thought before, but I was thinking about Jason and Tim's relationship and how everything went down with Jason's whole revenge plan or whatever and I present the thought of:
Jason is revived, spends his time with the league and then goes and sees that Batman has 'replaced' him with Tim, of course he's hurt by this and he starts to question if Bruce ever really viewed Jason as a son or if it was all just in Jason's head, he doesn't want to believe that Bruce would replace him but the evidence is damning.
Jason being so hurt by this he decides he can't tell Bruce he's back, and goes on to plan all his Red Hood drama. At first Jason is content with doing what he thinks is right as Red Hood and is fine just killing the Joker on his own. As long as Joker is off the streets and can't hurt anyone else Jason thinks this will be enough.
Years pass and Jason has made a name for himself as the Red Hood, and during this time he has become accustomed to seeing Batman fighting alongside his new sidekick, his new Robin. Whether in passing or from a distance, Jason has seen how the two interact and function with each other, and he recognises how much Tim seems to care for Bruce. It's hurtful to think of Bruce having moved on and replacing him but Jason sees his younger self in the way Tim looks at Batman while they're in battle.
In this time Jason has not been able to bring himself to kill the Joker, his own mental turmoil at the idea of facing the man who killed him keeping him from acting on his anger, instead he only fights against the joker from afar, foiling his schemes in ways that didn't require him to ever actually have to face the twisted man.
Jason tries his best to avoid Batman and his new protege, and just continue working in the shadows of Gotham as Red Hood without having to deal with any conflict from the dark knight/his dad, while from afar feeling a sort of connection with Tim, he is technically his younger brother now right? Even if Jason can't bring himself to so much as wave in his direction when near enough that Tim might see him. During a team up of some kind, probably with someone like Harley Quin, Red Hood is informed of the Joker Jr incident and is suddenly filled with such rage, such anguish at the idea that not only had Bruce failed to save Jason, had let him die and then allowed the Joker to keep his own life, but that Bruce would allow Joker to hurt another one of his sons, to hurt Jason's brother. That even after seeing both Jason and Tim suffer at the Joker's hands that Bruce would still let that man continue with his life, continue to hurt people whether those people be members of the batfamily or just civilians caught in the crossfire of an endlessly painful rivalry between the clown and the bat. That Bruce would continue to take Tim out in the field and put him anywhere near the Joker to fight. When it was just for his own peace Jason could've ended the Joker on his own and let that be enough, sure it hurt Jason to think that the man he had seen as his father didn't care enough to avenge him but he would've survived, as long as he got to watch the life drain from Joker's face and the smile spill off his face when he died. But now, knowing what Batman had allowed to happen, not just to himself, but to Tim as well? It was just too much.
That would be the final straw. The thing that makes Jason finally go directly after Joker, to reveal himself to his father, to scream at him and air out his pain, his sorrow and his anguish, yelling "How could you let him do it? How could you let him continue living after what he did to me? How could you have allowed him to live on to hurt Tim? You couldn't protect me so why didn't you protect him? Was it not enough? To lose me? Was that not enough to make you realise? If I wasn't enough why wasn't Tim? It should've ended with me and it needs to end with Tim! How many more Robins will you let him hurt beyond repair? How many Bruce?! You need to end this! Please end this! If you couldn't do it for me please do it for Tim, he deserves better than you gave me!"
Anyway, just a thought I had. it's kinda hard to articulate in this typa format but maybe I'll write it out as a fanfic and it'll make more sense? Don't know if I will though, let me know if that's something anyone would be interested in I guess. But yeah, I'm just like really interested in Jason and Tim's dynamic and the potential they have for brotherly angst and shenanigans so I might just write some random Tim and Jason interactions for funsies whether or not I decide to post 'em.

The Banshee, a JL mystery
A foreign case was being discussed by the Justice League, in general it was not bad, just rare.
It began a couple of months ago, a tourist had come to Star City, but he did not visit the city, he did not even register, he just pop out of nowhere, went to the cemetery, and apparently the cameras recorded him placing flowers in all the tombs and talking with the air or with some of the people engraved in the stones, they were not sure of it.
The strange thing was that the cameras around him were always corrupted, they needed the JLD to even stabilize the image, and ¿was that not worrying? They assumed that something supernatural was following him, the boy looked strictly human, but even the trackers that they tried to put were damaged around him.
Unfortunate for the entire league, although they had the guy features, the image was not clear enough for facial recognition.
The corrupted sound of the camaras sounded like a wail, or a cry, Constantine commented it remembered him to a banshee, so they started to call him "The Banshee" even if Zatanna told them Banshee were strictly women, it stayed.
The wave of visits continued, the boy went through Central City, Metropolis, Washington, Gotham, but it was later where something relevant happened again.
Jason was visiting his own grave when he noticed the boy, he tells, he cared because the young man seemed disconsolate looking at the graves, even yearning if that had some sense.
"Did you know him?" It may be the case of B, but it still had him intrigued. Also, the guy was looking at his grave, he felt like he have the right to ask.
"No, but you could say I already did" the boy sighed, stroking the stone of the tomb "I would also like it-..." Danny stopped, he should not be telling his problems to the owner of the tomb "Ah, no matter, it's good to know he was loved"
Jelousy, the reason why Danny visited the cemeteries was to calm himself, surrounded by what he wants but can not occur, to cry as no one cried for him, Clockwork always said that a part of him died at the moment nobody pay attention to his death, and ¿wasn't that funny?
"¿How do you know?" If someone asked Jason, he would affirm that it was uncomfortable to talk about himself as if he was still dead, but he couldn't do anything about it now.
"Well, he's buried and has a proper resting place, they keep bringing him flowers even though the inside of his grave is empty, you can see the recently removed earth; Many of the dead don't have that luxury, their bodies left somewhere, the missing people were never given a proper burial, I don't know man, ghosts can't build their own graves ¿you know?" He was probably ranting and he knew it, but Danny was tired, he wanted that too, and it was such a stupid rule not to be able to give himself his own resting place, but he wasn't going to burden Jazz, Sam, or Tucker with giving him a funeral.
It was the reason he did this, why he visited cemeteries, laid flowers and talked to the resident ghosts, he wanted to know the feeling, wanted to know what he had lost, wanted to be mourned too.
"Anyway, nice to meet you Nosaj Ddot, be a little grateful for what you have, ¿okay? I know some who would kill for it" he smiled ruefully, starting to pick up his basket of flowers, he had already made his rounds anyway. It was probably time to go back to Amity Park.
"¿Nosaj? What are you talking about-" but the boy was already gone, disappeared into thin air, his communications re-established at the same moment that he noticed his damaged tracker right next to the grave, a short circuit.
"The banshee ¿uh?, he sure is an interesting guy, maybe the League is really onto something this time."

Fuck whatever DC is doing with the al Ghul's characterizations and story lines, I've decided that from now on the al Ghul's are gonna be DC's version of the Addams Family instead.
Now I don't mean just give the various al Ghul's the exact personalities of the various Addams and call it a day. That's boring, that erases all the interesting parts of the al Ghuls, that's just using "find & replace" and not actually adding anything. I mean give them the vibes of the Addams Family.
Keep the al Ghul's as the al Ghul's with all their scheming and machinations and world domination attempts but give them all the unhinged energy, the casually insane view of the world, the deranged levels of love and devotion for family. Make them that group where objectively they are batshit insane but also you cannot argue with the fact that they are indisputably the most stable and functional family in the entire universe.
They're creepy, they're kooky, they're mysterious and spooky. Ra's many opulent homes and impenetrable fortresses are a museum and the al Ghul's really are a screa-um whenever people come to see-um (or when they lay waste upon their enemies in a surprise attack that has been planned for months and is just the first domino in a series that will ultimately lead to achieving a far greater goal).
They all love each other and want each other to be happy, they express this primarily with stabbing and murder attempts (its fine, death is a thing that happens to other people).
And forget the League of Assassins being a cult. Just make the whole vast globe spanning organization a collection of cousins/aunts/uncles/dear old friends ect. No one (not even the al Ghuls, if they cared to keep track of such things) is sure who is actually related to them and who just got absorbed into the ever expanding family tree based on their vibes being right.
(Is Sensei Ra's father you ask? Well he's certainly someone's father - probably.
Anyway have you heard about Cousin Cheshire? Despicable poisoner of a young woman, capable of the most horrific things imaginable - yes she is the sweetest dear. Like I was saying though, she just had a baby!
Everyone in the family is just so excited to throw a baby shower to celebrate! Ubu has really gone all out with the spike traps, he does so love getting to welcome a new addition to the family.
Talia of course has cultivated a brand new strain of the most toxic plants imaginable to make a brand new kind of necrotizing poison. You know, as a nice little romantic gift for Cousin Cheshire and that young man of hers. It really is so important to make sure you take time for you and your partner to go on dates and have a few pitched battles to the death on dark rooftops in the pounding rain when you have children.
Now there is some to-do about it all of course, you know how family get together can be. Everyone is arguing over who should get to give little Lian her first weapon and what it should be. Nyssa is pushing for grenades but Ra's is insisting on a sword - he's traditional like that you know - but Dusan has the vote so far on throwing knives. You know the kind that have the little divots along the edges of the blades them to make it easier to get the poison you dip them in to stick.)
I'm just saying that the al Ghuls should be a delightful cross between the Bond Villains they were originally conceived as and the lovingly unhinged Addams Family. It just feels correct in my heart.
(Again keep the interesting aspects of the characters and the nuances of who each of them are like their drive to save the world through destroying humanity and their strong environmentalist leanings and their constantly playing 5D chess and everything, but like, take away the racism and the cartoonishly evil for no reason bullshit and give them some fun feral energy to go along with it).
#batman#ra's al ghul#al ghul family#talia al ghul#nyssa raatko#cheshire dc#sensei dc#no more racism and fucked up dark family dynamics#the al ghuls aggressively adore each other#violence and schemes is their love language#in the full au version of all of this i'd like to imagine how canon plot points change with the al ghuls having these vibes#Just imagine Damian still trying to kill Tim when he first ends up in Bruce's care#but instead of it being a ploy to get rid of a threat its because he's just so excited to meet one of his big brothers#and attempted murder is just how you tell someone in your family that you love them#Tim just SO CONFUSED because Damian is talking so animatedly about how happy he is to get to have some brotherly bonding with Tim#while ACTIVELY trying to run him through with a sword#idk how things change with Cass exactly but i feel like they would in this#like either David Cain isn't an absolute monster or the al ghuls catch wind of what he's doing & are like#This is NOT how al ghuls treat family! what is this shameful behavior! She can't even insult you while you fight!#fighting and violence is a perfectly healthy way to express your love but only if there's actually LOVE involved!#The Heretic & other Damian clones still get made but only because Talia just misses her son so much that she makes more of him#Nyssa has just been bopping around the world for a few centuries & pops up every now and then to have a death match with her baby sister#i just have a lot of strong feelings about the al ghuls deserving better and combined that with the vibes of my favorite unhinged family#Dick still hates Talia but Talia takes all his insults as her darling step son telling her how much he loves her#which only drives Dick even crazier#Tim rocks up to the League of Assassins during his whole trying to prove Bruce is alive thing already seen as an al ghul#Oh yeah that's Cousin Timothy he's one of Talia's kids - never met a truer al ghul in your life#You see how he blew up all those bases? Ra's cried he was so proud#Ra's spoils his grandkids absolutely rotten which is giving Bruce SO MANY gray hairs

you do not get it, if i had a time machine i would have made it so that Bruce/Batman was not only a good dad but a GREAT dad from the start, like honestly if i had the means i would erase all the times he has been written to be abusive to his kids in any shape or form and also probably have twice as many adopted kids than he does now.

Socializing is a constant war 4 me in between wanting to just be myself but also trying to do what others do which often means imitating them to a T bc otherwise I feel like I'm not doing enough and I'm falling behind and low-key that if I do so then I bring nothing to the table therefore can be easily replaced but shhhh 🤫 don't tell this to anyone guys I'm still a sigma who experienced no trauma at all

Sometimes, I just have a normal day and then I read comics like these where I have an emotional breakdown over the fact that it scares the utter hell out of Alfred that the boy he raised and loved goes out every night to fight crime and risks dying or getting arrested.

Okay so these three (1 2 3)posts gave me a fix idea that hopefully I’ll write (my wip list is long okay).
Okay so what if when Thomas and Martha Wayne were killed the trauma it caused Bruce created a darkness in his soul and it broke off almost and it turned into his shadow, maybe it stayed dormant for a while maybe it didn’t. But it’s a dark part of him (although it does have it’s own light/kindness, dark doesn’t mean evil). It can take it’s own form rather than being just his shadow, and it can let him turn into a part of it which is what happens when he’s Batman, that’s what batblob really is. People from other cities like Metropolis and Central etc don’t understand why Gothamites call Batman a creature or a cryptid. I mean he’s just a vigilante. But gothamite know that there’s something not entirely human about him.
I drew on so many posts I’ve read with this

batman #227
[ID: Batman rescuing Alfred Pennyworth's niece, Daphne, from a castle. He's standing outside and is looking up the tall stone walls before throwing his grappling hook at the only window with a light on. His body is a silhouette against the dark, blue sky as he swiftly climbs the line. The narration reads, "Almost as though he were weightless, The Batman rises up the smooth stone tower..."
He perches upon the windowsill as Daphne bangs against the locked door with her fists. She begs to be let out, not realizing Batman is there until he speaks up, "You have no cause for fear, Miss Pennyworth!" She turns around in shock and proclaims, "The Batman-!" He nobly stands and reassures her, "I've come to take you far away from here, Daphne!" END ID]

I’ve got thoughts about Dark Crisis, like as a concept. Disregarding the fact that it’s premise is stupid (oh no the justice league died, they’ve never done that before, whatever shall we do), it also feels so disrespectful.
Like they show Jon trying to put together a new league, with everyone being gigantic douchebags. Which, A. Why would that responsibility fall to him, he’s a child? B. Why do they even need a new league, doesn’t the league have reserve members, or am I being stupid? Why wouldn’t the still alive members + the reserve members be the new league? And importantly, C. Why are we acting like the loss of the league is this giant impossible loss?
Sure, emotionally it’d be massive for the characters who lost their mentors, their friends, their heroes, and their family. And I can see why the world would slightly fall into chaos thanks to villains thinking there’s no one there to stop them. But then the world would just… go on? Idk why the writers are acting like the rest of the superhero community aren’t just as capable (at least all together) as the leaguers who died.
What would the world do without Superman? Idk, and good thing we don’t have to find out since we already have one (who has been earths sole superman for almost a year now mind you). But if that’s not enough we also have superboy, supergirl, steel, and a whole host of non super characters with similar power sets.
What would the world do without Wonder Woman? Aquaman? Green Arrow? Don’t know, don’t have to find out. We already have one Wonder Woman, three wonder girls, and an entire island of potential wonder women. We also have Jackson, Garth, Mera, Dolphine and an entire ocean of atlanteans. Not only do we have another green arrow, red arrow, Arsenal, and we’re about to get speedy back if I’m not mistaken, but I’m sure other people can also learn archery if necessary.
The Flash? There’s at least 3 other flashes, one kid flash, and one impulse ready to go.
Batman? Has an entire army of orphan children at his disposal, and an entire team of Batmen running about the place.
Green Lantern? ...
Really the only people who don’t have a lot of people with the exact same powers as them are Zatanna, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl. And even then they still have some people with those exact powers.
Idk it just feels so disrespectful to the 99% of superheroes still alive, especially those like Nightwing and Arsenal who have existed as characters for longer than most of the leaguers who died, to act like they wouldn’t be able to pick up the slack. Like the world needed those leaguers so badly that everyone will be divided, no one will know what to do or how to move forward, and the everything will fall apart without them.
I’m not saying I hate the concept. I’m all for a story honouring the legacies of the league, and focusing on the interpersonal relationships of the community (not sure why the league had to die for that but whatever). My problem is with the way the promotion of the story and the story itself is being framed like a “how could the world possibly manage” story. When realistically, the world would mourn and be a little extra chaotic for a few days, maybe weeks, then it’d be fine again.
