I knew I wasn't going to be able to draw for a while after surgery, but I didn't expect to not be able to TYPE for this long. I have a manuscript I want to get moving on, but I can only work on it like the little dippy bird on your grandparents' mantel.
In lieu of anything else, here's a collection of character drawings from my first trilogy.
Book 1, Woodwalker: A disgraced ranger must lead an exiled queen on a dangerous quest to reclaim her throne.

Book 2, Ashes to Fire: A desperate queen will do whatever it takes to secure the throne that was stolen from her---even if it means allying with the unlikeliest of enemies.

Book 3, Creatures of Light: With the Eastern World collapsing into war, one lonely queen harbors a great secret that could bring peace---at the risk of losing everything herself.

These books released in 2015-2017 from Harper Collins and should still be able to be found through most retailers or requested from your library (or order from one of my regional indies for signed copies!). All are nature-nerd fantasy adventures for readers 14+---technically they're not YA because the characters are adults, but there's no graphic content in them besides a bit of language and garden variety fight scenes that would make them unsuitable for teen readers.

Very excited to share that I will be co-editing the 9th issue of Reckoning: a nonprofit, annual journal of creative writing on environmental justice. We love speculative works (cli-fi, eco fantasy, etc), poetry, art, and creative nonfiction. We are always seeking work from Indigenous writers and artists, racialized writers and artists, queer, trans and/or disabled writers and artists, and anyone, anywhere in the world, who has suffered the consequences, intended or otherwise, of dominant society’s systemic disconnect with and mistreatment of the natural world. "A Cappella Voice" — Excerpt
A lanky Wyrhan with coiled braids of hot pink hair careened nir torso over a ruddy Magnai attendant’s desk, causing the variety of colorful stud and dangling chain earrings lining the length of nir pointed albino ears to shake and glitter in the sky’s ambient purple light. Ne casually cast nir gaze around the open field that was already beginning to fill with Ecei, Magnai, Salians, and Wyrhans setting up their stalls.
“Name?” the attendant asked with practiced patience.
“‘Yihen,’” ne responded, not even bothering to look back at him as ne spoke.  “Y-I-H-E-N. Just that. The ‘A’ is silent.”
The attendant, who had dutifully started writing the name on his list of vendors, stopped in confusion. “What ‘A’?”
“Exactly—that’s the spirit!” Yihen cheerfully slapped the man’s bulky bicep and sauntered off into the crowd before he could say another word.
Ne sang a light, airy tune as ne bobbed and swayed through the assembling stands.
Another Wyrhan, catching a glimpse of Yihen’s strange technicolor outfit that seemed to gather and billow in the most inconvenient places, couldn’t help but stare as ne passed. Her own fashion expressed itself with a blue frost on the tips of her short white hair and some trendy-yet-tasteful accents on a slender, short-sleeved jumpsuit that left the snowy patch of feathers on both her elbows exposed. Yihen noted the female earring neatly placed beneath the lone Apprentice and Adept badges on her right ear. Her frown at Yihen’s unusual appearance deepened when ne politely tilted nir own bedazzled ears for her to see, then furrowed into a scowl of disgust at the sight of nir earrings for all three sexes clustered in the same spot where she wore her one.
Ne looked her in the eye and grinned. Here in the cosmopolitan Ecei city of Fulmine, where Wyrhan laws no longer applied, ne knew she couldn’t do anything about it.

An excerpt from my short story, which was written for the Aegis of the Elements project as an audition piece for the position of Wyrhan writer and later published as a bonus story. You can find “A Cappella Voice” for sale as a PDF here or as an audio file here. If you’re new to the Aegis world, I highly recommend reading the free 5-page setting guide, which you can find here.

Fantasy Worldbuilding Questions (Ecological Challenges and Environmental Disasters)
Ecological Challenges and Environmental Disasters Worldbuilding Questions:
What are the unique or different ecosystems in this world (e.g., terrestrial or aquatic systems). Which are stable, and which (if any) are under pressure and why?
What was the last major environmental catastrophe (e.g., a major fire, tremors, flood)? What happened?
Who is concerned about the environment’s well-being, and why?
Who is skeptical about environmental threats or dangers, and why?
Where is the environment most robust, and where are the greatest threats to stability, life, the land’s well-being?
Where would people seek refuge in the event of a disaster and why?
When do seasonal or periodic climate or other ecological changes occur, and why?
When major events affecting the environment occurred, and what are dominant attitudes towards it? Do they differ between inhabitants?
Why are certain environmental challenges predominant?
Why do inhabitants of this world value or exploit the natural world, and how?

Reeve Tuesti.
Funny cat man. Staunch proponent of improving living standards for people of all backgrounds and economic status. Enthusiast of city planning and publicly funded infrastructure. Expert in robotics, architecture, and civil engineering.
At the end of Final Fantasy VII, he finds himself free of the corrupt warmongering of the Shinra dictatorship, free to follow his heart and conscience, free to enact changes that will help the people of Midgar and restore the injured planet the best ways he knows how.
. . .
Four years later:
(On the Way to a Smile - "Episode: Denzel")
It was Reeve, former Shinra bigwig, now the leader of the WRO . . . folk whispered that the stench of death clung to him. . . . . . . . "You should know first of all that our organization isn't like it used to be. The days of welcoming anyone who was willing to join are long gone. If you want to help in the reconstruction, talk to your local district officer. The WRO is a military institution now."

Did a test run of this winged lion / griffin sticker based on a public domain 1930s watercolor by Harriette Gale called "Ornamental Iron Griffon," hence have few of these available on etsy. Tried to keep this project as light on the environment as possible so these are paper stickers, not vinyl.

[+ + SQUIRE OF CHAOS + +]
“The Lord of those illusory lands was given to collecting precious poisons - he wore a haze of fever about himself, and to him the Monarch bequeathed a holy toxin. Ignoring the warnings of his priestly attendants he took the new colour of the venom within himself. Turning to face his court, he declared - “No Lord, I, But A Squire, With A Perfect Chaos In My Belly”. Upon hearing this, his men rejoiced, and his name was taken into their own flesh that it could not be stricken easily”
