Time for a ride! 🚲
A piece for Jam Deer!! I loved the theme (especially the strawberry suit it's kind of a favorite) and had a lot of fun rendering this one!
Watercolor, acrylic ink, colored pencil.

we’ve all heard of polio, a disabling and life-threatening disease caused by poliovirus, that ran rampant through the world before it was eradicated (in the west) with the introduction of a vaccine in the 1950s. enough time has passed that most of us, and most of our parents, have grown up without knowing people who survived polio.
what I bet you didn't know about is something called Post-Polio Syndrome. it occurs in more than half of people who survive poliovirus, and it occurs decades later. year after people have lived through polio, years after they have “recovered,” they begin to struggle. they begin to decline. they experience pain and weakness and loss of function. they develop new disabilities, and see old disabilities worsen. and there is no cure, only management.
That’s what happens post poliovirus. It happens bc poliovirus causes lifelong damage, the extent of which is only revealed decades later. We are among the first generations to grow up not knowing people who live with the longterm consequences of poliovirus.
We will be among the first to find out what Post-Corona Syndrome looks like.

Not to condone genocide, imperialism, and abuse on main but I truly am obsessed with John Gaius. I can never thank Ms Muir enough for this fascinating and strange little god man. I would love to study him. I know everyone else is in this fandom because of the lesbians but the best experience I’ve had reading these books is seeing the figure of god teased out and alluded to throughout gtn and learning in htn that he is Just Some Guy with the most Just Some Guy name of all time. And then later in htn learning that he is also, fundamentally, horny. The necrolord prime, emperor of the nine houses is a terrifying megalomaniacal immortal hell bent on interplanetary domination who is also, and I cannot stress this enough, a fucking nerd. This is peak character concept and peak villain. Everyone go home
John Gaius is like if Jonah Magnus succeeded at ending the world but still retained all of his mundane human shitty boss qualities. John Gaius is like if the creepiest of your high school teachers ascended to godhood but still wanted to overshare about his marriage problems to his students every now and then. John Gaius has been god for 10,000 slutty slutty years and he misused every single one. John Gaius makes meme references that were probably already incredibly out of date when he was alive, and yet he’s STILL MAKING THEM 10,000 years later. John Gaius is the universe’s shittiest absent father. John Gaius sees one of his few surviving old friends repeatedly attempt to murder the child under his care and goes “hm. Concerning” before doing Nothing about it. I am OBSESSED with this deeply human and messy all-powerful malevolent god, nobody is doing it like him
Edit he ordered the child murder. How did I forget that he ordered the child murder. And then he told the child he wished she was his daughter. Cool and normal things!

Izuku doesn’t meet a sludge monster in a tunnel, and All Might doesn’t save him and make his dreams come true. In fact, it’s been a long time since All Might has saved anyone at all. Five years since anyone’s even seen him.
Izuku doesn’t meet a sludge monster in a tunnel, but he does meet something.

My entry for the Dad Might Monster Mash! This is based on an AU I’ve been working on in the back of my brain for about two years, but never had the motivation to make content for til now.

throughout my lifetime, periods of stress & illness have corresponded to weight loss, while periods of recovery have corresponded to weight gain. If people I see once a year are going out of the way to tell me how healthy I look when I’m at the lowest point of health in my life, and those comments disappear once I start actually recovering--that tells me we have to have a serious conversation about the way our culture criminalizes weight, and uses “health” as an excuse to do it.
weight and health have exceptionally little to do with each other, stop fucking insisting they do.

i think part of the reason i love bad buddy so much is that youve got the four main characters: Pat, Pran, Paa, and Ink, who are walking green flags while Every other character is red flag after red flag. Most of the time, this wouldnt work because it creates a barrier between the main characters and the outside world, effectively making the story seem either idealized or overdramatic and depressing. However, i think that it works with bad buddy so well because bad buddy, in its essence, is a story about having the whole world against you for such a simple thing as love. Rather than making the theme and moral of the story grey (less meaningful), paof chose to specifically outcast the main characters as good people for the metaphor. Perhaps it might be more realistic for certain characters to have reasons why theyre being assholes or for the main characters to have significant flaws, but that makes the metaphor weaker. As the show continues to air, its become so clear that it really is about the queer experience: the shame and social isolation you feel, the frustration of just wanting to live freely, the euphoria of finding someone like you, the comfort you find when you are surrounded by other queer people. Pat and Prans relationship isnt just a romeo and juliet story, its a metaphor for growing up queer and accepting yourself.
