hi mal, hope ur having a great day!!
little mermaid au pls ❤️
also sorry about this, i rmbr you posting something about a bi charles au and a mechanic au last year and i was just wondering if ur planning to still write them 👀 absolutely no pressure though, im sorry if it comes off that way
have a great rest of your day 💛
Hi! I hopefully will pick up those two wips again, but I've already shared as much as I can of those and haven't added anything since last time 😭 so I couldn't include them this time...
BUT I can share a little more of the little mermaid one for sure ❤️
Charles pulls uncomfortably at the collar of his shirt, eventually just unfastening some of the ties so it hangs loose across his chest. He isn’t used to being clothed, therefore everything feels tight and abrasive against his skin.
He’d almost immediately tugged off the boots he’d been given once he was alone, much preferring to accustom himself to walking barefoot and feeling the ground against the pads of his feet. What was the point of finally having feet to run and jump and dance if he imprisoned them in those leather cages they called shoes?
He’d been cleaned and clothed and checked over by a doctor, all of which had been a rather intrusive experience. He’d been scrubbed and brushed and prodded and maneuvered about, then deemed healthy enough, although there was some mild concern over his difficulty walking and lack of voice. But the doctor had seemed to attribute the walking problem to sore legs from swimming ashore, as he must’ve done to survive the shipwreck, and his missing voice to shock, which he believed would return in time.
Charles had then been shown to his quarters, which constituted a lovely, large bed and a window overlooking the sea, until such a time that they could determine who he was, exactly. Charles had almost immediately collapsed into the bed, something he’d dreamed of after discovering humans slept in nests of soft, cushy feathers, and fallen into a deep, dreamless sleep. When he awoke, he had a growling belly and a thousand questions.
What all had happened in that witch’s cave? What had he agreed to? What was it he gave in exchange for legs? Just his voice? Or something else, as well? How long would he be like this? Forever? Or was he on borrowed time?
He’d decided to deal with the hunger first. And somehow, he’d found what he believed was the palace’s place for preparing food. Which brings him to now, standing in the doorway as he watches people dressed in all white, running about, food strewn across surfaces, all kinds of utensils in their hands as they slice and stir and taste.
He feels frozen to the spot, unsure if he’s supposed to be here, but unable to ask anyone where else he can find something to eat. And no one has looked his way, all of them absorbed in their tasks.
Charles is about to venture inside, when he hears a strange sort of roar-like shout, repeated over and over and getting closer. Then, he spots a hairy four-legged creature running toward him at full speed. Charles thinks he’s under attack (he would probably scream if he were able) so that when the creature jumps toward him, Charles trips backward, protecting his face as he’s clawed at.
But after a moment of expecting pain only to be met with a wet, slobbery tongue licking repeatedly over his hands and face, he realizes maybe he’s not under attack. He peeks out from behind his hands to look at the beast, whose hot breath puffs against his chin, and suddenly recognizes it as the creature the man on the ship had nearly died staying to save - the creature Charles had helped onto the boat.
The beast barks again, and Charles startles, but he doesn’t get clawed at or bitten. So he reaches out a tentative hand and scratches behind its ear. The beast leans heavily into the contact with a look of utter satisfaction on its face.
Charles smiles, warmth filling him up with the urge to laugh. He gets a lick to the face that almost knocks him onto his back.
“Piñon!” a voice calls out, and Charles looks up to see a man come around the corner.
Not just a man - him.

---
A given, the super-soldier had been on nonstop missions for the last month or so, but she thought she was helping him feel better, not making him feel worse.
“Would you like anything to eat, Stevie? You’ve barely moved all day.” (Y/N)’s voice is small. Quiet.
She’s leaning through the door of his study where he’s sat putting together his mission reports from the last three or four missions he’s been out on.
He shakes his head but doesn’t even turn to look at her.
Sighing, the woman walks further into the room where her boyfriend is slouched over the desk.
“You gotta take a break, Stevie.” She whispers, resting her hands on his shoulders.
She notices the way they tense up, but he still remains silent.
His fingers continue to write up his report on the laptop.
“I’m worried about you, Stevie; talk to me.”
“I’m busy, (Y/N).”
“I know you are, baby, but you’ve gotta look after yourself too.” She attempts, leaning down to press a kiss to his cheek. He pulls away.
The woman furrows her brows.
“Steve, please, you’ve got to-”
“(Y/N), just stop!”
The shout is sudden and it makes her flinch back away from the man as he turns to face her.
“I’m fine, alright?! I don’t need you babying me all the time!”
She doesn’t respond for a second, surprised at her lover’s outburst.
He says nothing more, simply turns back to the laptop and continues typing away.
“Steve, look how stressed you are. Can you please just-”
“STOP! Okay?! Just stop! Leave me the fuck alone while I finish these neverending mission reports. For once in your life can you just understand that not everything is about you?!”
(Y/N) swears that being shot in the heart wouldn’t hurt half as much as the words that just came out of the man’s mouth.
Her mouth opens and closes as if searching for the right words to say, but that hurt.
Is she really that bad? Is that the truth behind all of this? That she’s clingy? Thinks everything is about her? That was never her intention. (Y/N) is well aware of how important being an Avenger is. Hell, she is an Avenger, for Christ’s sakes.
She says nothing more and leaves the room.
She can’t even decide if she feels sad. No. She’s not sad, she’s not angry, she’s not… anything.
Numb.
Naturally, her feet lead her to their room. Steve’s room. They all basically share the super soldier’s abode since they all got together, but right now she doesn’t dare open the door.
Doing a full one-eighty spin, (Y/N) takes herself back to a place she barely touches anymore. Her room.
It’s pretty empty. Most of her clothes are in Steve’s room, in her own walk-in wardrobe. Her bed is perfectly made from the last time she slept in here - maybe a year ago?
The woman walks around her bed and straight onto her bedroom balcony, overlooking the lake at the back of the compound, and stays there. For three-hours. Until Bucky comes looking for her.
He came home from his mission about thirty-minutes ago only to find their shared room of Steve’s empty. He searched just about everywhere, completely clueless.
“FRIDAY, where’s (Y/N) and Steve?” He finally gives in.
“Captain Rogers is in study five, and Agent (L/N) is in her private quarters.”
Now that makes the brunet furrow his brows.
Why would (Y/N) be in her room and not his or Steve’s?
He prioritises finding (Y/N) first, knowing Steve will be writing up mission reports, no doubt.
Despite them being together for over six-years now, he hesitates when reaching for the handle of her bedroom door. Instead, the man opts to knock.
No answer.
“(Y/N)?” Nothing. “Doll, it’s me; can I come in?” Nothing.
Bucky tries the door handle and finds it unlocked, yet still hesitates.
“Baby?” He calls out. Again, nothing.
He’s cautious now. Scared.
Her room looks as untouched as the last time he saw it, which was a few months back when she was after one of her plushies.
“(Y/N)?”
It’s when he feels the chill of the midnight winds ruffle his hair that he realises her balcony doors aren’t fully closed.
Striding straight over, his eyes widen at the sight of his girlfriend curled up in the corner of the outdoor area, crying.
“(Y/N), baby, hey, what’s wrong?!”
Bucky immediately drops to his knees in front of the woman, reaching for her hands and gently tugging them away from her tear-stained face.
“(Y/N), doll, look at me.” His voice is gentle. Soothing.
She does almost instantly but her sadness stays.
“What happened, baby? Are you hurt?”
The fear and sincerity in his voice is enough to prompt the woman to shake her head. Yes, she’s hurting emotionally, but he needs confirmation that she’s not dying.
The woman immediately sees the relief take over his features, but he’s still concerned.
“What’s wrong, doll?”
Her eyes stray away from his, not wanting to tell him what’s got her so upset.
“Hey, no, look at me, baby,” He whispers, hand lightly grasping at her chin to raise her face back up to his. “What’s got you so worked up, (Y/N)?”
Another shake of her head as she tries to escape her lover’s hold.
“Baby, please, you’re scaring me.”
Her face contorts into something close to heartbreak as she wants nothing more than to reassure the man in front of her.
“It’s okay, Buck.”
“It’s not okay! Doll, I haven’t seen you cry since Stevie nearly died on that mission in Ohio like two-years-ago! Talk to me.”
She takes a deep breath and wipes her face of the shedding tears.
“Do you want me to get Stevie?”
The question is innocent and makes sense, but her eyes widen and she shakes her head desperately.
“No! No, please, no.”
That truly makes the super soldier concerned.
“Doll, please can you tell me what’s happened?”
Never in the last eight-years that Bucky and (Y/N) have known each other has she been so reluctant to see Steve.
Another sob escapes her and it’s breaking his heart.
“Baby, please.”
“Steve got mad at me, alright?!” She manages an attempted shout. “I just wanted him to look after himself.”
“What happened? What did Steve do?”
He’s concerned. Massively.
“I was trying to get him to eat; he hasn’t eaten properly in so long. He’s so overworked and he’s hung up on all these mission reports. He told me that not everything was about me - shouted at me; told me to stop.” She’s whimpering and sniffling again now. “Please get him to eat something, James.”
That last sentence is the one that crushes him. She’s upset, yeah, but above all that, she’s still worried about the blond super soldier.
“Come on, baby, let’s go to our room and get into bed, yeah? I’ll go and speak to Stevie.”
Her eyes meet his and she looks scared, but the ocean blue gaze that he returns makes her bound to his every command.
The woman nods.
“Okay.”
“That’s my girl.”
With the help of the Winter Soldier, (Y/N) manages to stand up, letting him lead her out of her private room and into their shared one of Steve’s.
“Here, let’s get you into your PJs, yeah?”
He doesn’t leave room for negotiation as he helps his girlfriend strip out of her casual dress and into one of his oversized t-shirts.
“You get snuggled up in bed, doll. I’m going to go and get Stevie, okay?”
He hates how she looks nervous at the mention of their other lover’s name.
“He loves you more than words can describe, baby girl, I promise you. He shouldn’t have lashed out at you, I’m gonna talk to him, okay?”
A hesitant nod and forced smile is enough for now.
“I’ll be back shortly, I promise.” He leans over and gives the woman a kiss on the lips, leaving her with one of her favourite shows playing on the TV.
“Bucky,” Her choked up voice calls out just before he leaves.
The man turns from his place in the doorway.
“I love you.”
The smile that takes over his expression is contagious.
“I love you too, baby girl. More than anything.”
Despite his reassurance to the woman, he’s pretty damn pissed for a number of reasons about Steve losing his cool with their girl. Reason number one being, how dare he? Reason number two being, he knows better than to overwork, yet here we are.
Bucky doesn’t even knock once he approaches the glass doors of the study where Steve is sat typing away on the laptop.
The blond doesn’t even glance up to see who entered. He barely heard the door open which enrages Bucky further.
The brunet slams the lid of the laptop shut without saying a word, prompting Steve’s head to shoot up, glaring daggers at whoever has interrupted him.
“What the fuck, James?!”
That makes Bucky really get annoyed.
“Are you serious right now, Rogers?”
“I’m in the middle of about seven different mission reports, Buck, I’ve gotta finish them.” The man sighs, going to open the lid of the PC once more, only for Bucky to hold it down. “James, seriously,”
“No. What you need to do is explain to me why our girlfriend has been crying for the last God-knows how many hours?”
That makes Steve snap back to reality.
“What? (Y/N) has been crying? Is she okay?”
Bucky literally rolls his eyes at that.
“Are you fucking serious, Steve?” He repeats, Steve looking confused, expression contorting as he realises that his boyfriend is seriously angry at him.
“Bucky, what’s wrong? What’s happened?”
The Winter Soldier’s head lolls back as he groans in frustration.
“You seriously have no idea?” He asks, rhetorically, watching Steve look almost scared. “Do you often shout at your girlfriend and forget it happened?”
Cap’s eyes widen at that, and he visibly gulps.
“What?”
“She came in here to make sure you were looking after yourself, which you weren’t, by the way, and you tell her that not everything is about her?! Are you fucking stupid, Steve?!”
He remembers it all too well in that moment, turning his head down to avoid the frustrated glare of his male lover.
“No. No, you don’t get to look away from me. Look at me.” Bucky demands, watching the blond super soldier reluctantly do so. “I come home from my own exhausting mission, search for (Y/N) for thirty-minutes, and find her crying her God-damn heart out on the balcony of HER room; not our room, Steve, no. Her room.”
Steve’s heart shatters and his eyes widen once more.
(Y/N) hates staying in her room. She’d always be in his or Bucky’s without a doubt.
“I- Buck-”
Bucky shakes his head and stands back upright as Steve is lost for words.
“I’m not mad at you, Steve. I get it, you know? You’ve been overworking for the last month, I know you’re stressed, but fuck, baby, you can’t hurt her like that. Do you know how much my heart fucking shattered when I saw her curled up in the corner of her own God-damn balcony?! It tore me apart. She hasn’t cried since you nearly fuckin-” Bucky chokes on his own word as he walks away from his lover.
“I’m sorry! Buck, I’m sorry, okay? I shouldn’t have let Fury send me on that many missions, I- I should’ve said no. I’m sorry.” Steve attempts, standing up and following the brunet, turning him around to face him once more.
“It’s not me you need to be apologising to, Stevie.”
Captain America nods and leans up to press a kiss to the man’s lips.
“I’m sorry, James.”
Bucky takes a deep breath and forces a smile.
“I forgive you. Of course I forgive you, I know you didn’t mean it, but I swear to God, if you hurt her again…”
Steve is already shaking his head.
“I wouldn’t dream of either of you getting hurt. Where is she?”
“Our room.”
He nods and begins heading toward the woman to which he owes more than he can give.
The door is half ajar when Steve gets there, he slowly opens it to reveal his girlfriend in all her glory, curled up under their Captain America themed duvet - which Sam bought the trio as a joke last Christmas. Her face is clear-as-day red from her earlier upset, and it breaks his heart.
The man knocks gently on the day as if not to startle the poor girl.
“Hey, sweetheart.” He offers a solemn smile when she turns to see who’s there.
He hates the way he can see her hesitation to speak to him as opposed to her usual squeal of his name, arms opening wide to welcome him into her cuddle-fest.
“Hi.” She manages, forcing her own smile.
There’s silence floating between them, the only sound being Jensen Ackles, in his role of Dean Winchester, talking a load of nonsense about pie on the TV that’s streaming Supernatural.
“Baby, I’m so sorry.” Steve manages, taking a step toward the bed. “Nothing can excuse the way I yelled at you, and I’m so sorry for that, but, sweetheart, trust me when I say I didn’t mean it. I was so stupidly stressed, and I should never have let it get to that point.”
She nods, truly believing his words, but it still hurt.
The blond sits down on the edge of the bed, not daring to cuddle his girlfriend until she’s comfortable.
“I love you so much, (Y/N) (L/N).”
A bigger smile taints her lips at that.
“I love you too, Steven.” Her voice is barely a whisper but he hears it clear as day.
“Can I hold you?”
(Y/N) smiles and shakes her head as if he was being silly.
“You never need to ask permission for that, Stevie. No matter what.”
With another sad smile, he pulls the woman into his arms and holds her tighter than ever before.
“I’m so sorry, my love.”
“I forgive you, but no more missions for a while.” She whispers.
“Yes, boss.”
Bucky’s leaning against the doorframe, watching the interaction. He took a detour to Tony’s office and made sure to give the billionaire a piece of his mind about making sure Fury didn’t have Steve on any missions for a long time.
“Is this the last episode?” The brunet speaks up, stripping himself of his clothes as he enters their room properly.
“Yeah.” (Y/N) nods.
“I still think we should watch Vampire Diaries instead.” Steve chuckles, mirroring Bucky’s actions.
“I pick the TV show, Rogers shuts his cake-hole.” (Y/N) teases, mocking a line from Supernatural and snuggling herself in the middle of the bed, sandwiched between the two super soldiers - where she belongs. “I love you both.”
“Love you too, sweetheart.”
“Love you always, doll.”

Hi :) May I ask for a Dogma fic where him and the reader are dating and then the whole Umbara campaign happens and Dogma gets a court martial but the reader somehow figures out how to get him out and they live happily on a farm together? Sorry if this didn’t make any sense.
No it makes total sense! I love this idea Dogma doesn't get enough time in the show🤍

Going Home
A knock on your door woke you around 0400 in the morning, this wouldn't have been odd other than the fact that you had been off duty for hours (you were a mechanic for the 501st) and had specifically told the next shift crew not to bother you. You groaned and sat up cursing as you bumped your head on the shelf above your bunk, swinging your legs over the side you stood up and made your way over to the door ready to give the person who woke you a piece of your mind. The door opened and you opened your mouth to speak, but stopped. It was Dogma, one of the soldiers that was in the 501st, your boyfriend. He saw your disheveled state and a ghost of a smile appeared on his face.
" I'm sorry cyar'ika,I didn't mean to wake you" he said softly.
" It's ok, come in" Was your reply.
You moved away from the door so he could step inside, you both sat down on the small couch that you had in the room.
“ So what brings you here at four in the morning? “ you asked, a bit of sarcasm laced in your tone. The next thing he said surprised you.
“ We ship out in 2 hours...”
The 501st were supposed to be on leave for a few weeks and you were excited to get to spent some time with Dogma, but apparently plans had changed. He explained that they had been requested to help with the battle on Umbara alongside General Kenobi’s battalion the 212th.
“ How long until you get back?” you asked anticipating something reasonable considering they were supposed to have a 3 week leave in the upcoming days.
“ Rex doesnt know.” he replied. Dogmas comm went off but he hesitated to answer, which was very unlike him. He looked at you
“Well,” you said “Answer it”
He sighed and hit the button, then Rex’s voice rang out.
“ Times up Dogma, I need you back in the hangar.”
“ Yes sir” your boyfriend responded. He hit the button again and the call ended
“ Im sorry mesh’la, if i had known sooner i'd have told you” he said with a downcast face.
“Hey, its ok I understand, duty calls sweetheart” you answered cupping his face with your hands. both of you stood up and he wrapped you in a hug. Dogmas hugs were the best, they were warm and they made you feel safe, he pulled away and kissed your forehead gently.
“I'll miss you” he whispered into your hair
“ I know love, ill miss you to. Promise you will call when you can?” you asked
“ I promise” he said with one last peck to your lips.
“I'll see you when you get back” you called as he made his way to the door. He turned and blew you a kiss as the door shut. you flopped back down onto your bed sighing. Dating a clone was interesting to say the least, yet you wouldn't trade it for the world.
Weeks went by after that day, he commed you twice and then the messages dwindled to nothing. another week went by in silence, you were beyond worried. You had tried comming Rex, but with no avail, you also tried Anakin and he had picked up, but explained that he was called off of Umbara and replaced with a jedi named Krell. Confused you had bid him goodbye and hung up. Another two weeks went by and then a beacon of hope found its way to you. Anakin, who was the only one who knew of you relationship with Dogma, commed you one morning with intell that the 501st would be returning in the next couple of days, you asked him about your beloved clone, but that was all the info he had. So patiently you waited.
Finally on the third day you overheard a few troopers talking about them being back, soo straight to the hangar you went. when you made it to the 501st bay you found them unloading the ships, supplies, e-vac’s with wounded men, and artillery were all being taken off the ship. you scanned the crowd of almost identical faces, but Dogma wasn't there. Rex, who also knew of your relationship with Dogma, walked up to you.
“ Rex! have you seen-" you began, but he held up a hand causing you to stop
" Ah, y/n before you finish, there's something i need to tell you..."
Rex pulled you aside and explained what happened,
" He was sentenced to a court martial y/n, i'm so sorry."
You gaped at him in disbelief, your Dogma sentenced to a court trial for following orders!?! For doing what he was trained to do? That was absurd!
" Where are they keeping him?" You asked turning to head back to your quarters.
"The detention block... why?" Rex replied a bit suspicious.
"No reason" you said walking away.
Rex watched you walk away already knowing your plan, but hey, who was he to stop you.
You made your way through the corridors of the base heading towards your quarters. When you got inside you immediately locked the door and got to work, you pulled out a storage container from under your bunk and put the few belongings you had inside of it, then you started making a plan. You were a mechanic and an engineer, you knew this base like the back of your hands, you were going to break Dogma out and then run away with him. As cliche as it sounds it was the best you could come up with. You just so happened to own a bit of land on a planet that wasn't very civilized yet that you used when you were on leave. That's where you would go, no one would find you there. All you had to do was stage a jailbreak, and that's exactly what you did.
Later that evening you brought your belongings to the small stuttle you owned in one of the less used hangars, then from there you used the ventilation ducts to your advantage easily making your way down to the detention level without being discovered. Once above the central area you peered out through one of the vents, there were two clones on guard, as usual for this hour of the evening. The two shock troopers were just having a normal conversation, and you deemed them distracted enough for you to quietly drop down from the opening in the ceiling. You landed on your feet as quietly as possible and waited to see if the two guards had heard you. Their conversation paused for a moment but it picked back up a second afterwards. As slowly and quietly as possible you made your way around the corner and then sprinted down the hall. Checking cells as you went, you passed one that stood out to you. The ray shield was up, but at first glance no one was in the cell, which was odd. Then you took a double take and realized that there was indeed someone in the cell, curled up in the corner was a clone, not just any clone though. It was Dogma, he had his knees hugged to his chest, head resting on them and he was shaking. The sight broke your heart, you walked up to the control panel and took the front of the box off. The noise made Dogma look up, your eyes met as he walked over to where you were standing. You held a finger to your lips signaling to him to be quiet, you turned back to the panel knowing you would have to be fast. Once the wire was cut the alarms would sound and you would have company in less than 30 seconds. You glanced at Dogma and he nodded. You began sifting through the wires, yep just what you thought, the red one. They should really change the color you thought to yourself, you held your breath and cut the wire. The alarms immediately started blaring, but the ray shield went down. You grabbed his hand and ran, looking up and down the walls for a vent opening. A few yards down the corridor there was a vent big enough for both of you to fit through you dropped to your knees and took the grate off of the duct. You let Dogma in before you and crawled in behind him, you re attached the grate right as the boot falls of the troops searching for Dogma passed by. You both held your breath as the footsteps faded letting out a sigh when they were gone. You guided Dogma back to the hangar and bolted through the door, running straight into Rex...
" Rex! I can explain!" you began, pulling Dogma behind you,
" No need, I'll stall them " he replied starting to walk towards the hangar doors
"So you aren't going to stop us?" Dogma asked, baffled.
" No im not, now go quickly before they find out you're here!" Rex exclaimed turning his head to look back at you. You grabbed his arm before he could get to far
"Thank you " you breathed, he gave you a nod and with that you and Dogma sprinted for the ship. Powering it on and setting coordinance for the planet you spent your leaves on, once out of the atmosphere you set the hyperdrive and jumped to lightspeed.
Leaning back in your seat you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding and looked over at Dogma. He was staring off into space no emotion present on his face. You moved to kneel in front if him and took his hands in yours, your eyes met, his were full of tears. He just about collapsed into you causing you to sit against the panel with him in between your legs. He buried his head in your neck and you could feel him start to cry silently. You whispered reasurances and promises into his hair, you knew that the trauma he had experienced would take a long while to heal, but for now you could promise him one thing
" Everything is going to be alright cyare, we're going home"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So. My first fic is done... I really hope you like it. Dogma may be a bit out of character so I'll apologize for that. Thank you so much for the ask and the support<3 Hope it is as requested and any feedback is welcome.

💙💙❤️🖤❤️💙💙❤️🖤❤️💙💙
I couldn’t fight the tears as they started to sting along my water lines, I forced my eyes closed and tried to kick my lips, they tasted like poison and rubbed. I reached out for the countertop in-front of me. Finger shaking, just slightly as I grabbed the plastic in my hand. Three of four, say positive, the fourth didn’t give me an answer. How did this happen?!
“I know how this happen, in a very pleasurable way.....because I was being an idiot four months ago!” I scolded myself after asking my self the questions.
I swallowed and looked at my phone, it was new, Enji, bought it for me when I’d lost my old one off the roof of his car. I shuffled on my seat that were the steps to my tub. I took a deep breath, “I can’t tell him, I’ll have to leave him. I don’t want my child to go through the same things his children did.”
I stood up and started pacing the bathroom, “good plan good plan.” I lied to myself.
“Maybe I should tell him? I won’t be able to do it alone....” I stopped and looked at myself in the mirror, “No! What if.”
I felt the hot streaks running down the curves of my cheeks and jaw, but it didn’t register. I clenched my jaw and forced my eyes shut, I felt queasy, and the puking began. I stood up after kneeling for like ten minutes and rushed over to my legs mirror. I rose my hoodie, and it all made sense why I’d gained weight, if you looked hard enough, you could the bulge slowly not really, but just becoming visible, I looked bloated... maybe that’s why he never realized it.... also since it’s winter I’ve been using sweaters and hoodies much to Enji’s distaste. I laughed to myself before pouting, and placing both my hands on either side of my stomach, “I’m scared....” I swallowed the taste of fear, maybe puke, “I’ve never done this... I can’t call my parents... there not in Japan....” I fidgeted and pulled my shirt down, I heard the door bell and perked up, “Oh! My Noodles are here!”
I rushed to the door wallet in hand and ready to get my dood only to come face with Enji.
“Heeeeyyyyyy,” I poked my head out the door and looked around then poured and looked up at him, “You’re not the delivery guy.”
He gave me a look that clearly stated “Are you SERIOUS?”
“Right! You should come in before my pesky neighbor sees!” I pulled him in and looked around once more, my closest neighbor was actually about a quarter mile away, but that doesn’t matter.
“Soooooo,” I turned around and licked the door, “I didn’t expect you at all.” I smiled and fidgeted with my hands feeling sick.
“I’ve come to discuss this relationship.” His words were straight, I felt a fill run through my blood and bones, if he leaves.... what am I gonna do?
“Oh,” I nodded looked down, my voice was a whisper, “I guess say what you need.”
“I can’t keep having an affair, there are rumors rising already. My image can’t be ruined like this.”
I felt my heart pick up, my breathing felt struggled.
“I see,” I didn’t look up as I made myself take a breath feeling my heartbeat in my throat, “well, if this is it, I guess I should give back the jewelry, and other expensive gifts huh?”
“No, keep them, that’s not what I’m here for.” He shook his head eyes closed.
“Alright, is there anything else you need to say? Before you go?”
“I’m getting a divorce,” the words were like a punch to the stomach, I wasn’t the one being divorced but it definitely hit, I felt it rushing up. I rushed or my bathroom and stuffed the pregnancy tests into my hoodie pocket so Enji wouldn’t see them, I clung to the toilet shoving up the seat puked letting it all out. I was met with a tug at my hair, Enji was holding it back and fumbling with a black scrunches I’d left on my sink. He sighed as he rubbed my back, he kneeled beside me rubbing my back and handing me toilet tissue to wipe my mouth a bit that burned its wya through my nose. I took it and wiped my mouth away, I dry heaved a bit, and felt myself shaking, cold, so cold. Enji kept flushing the toilet until it was all gone, he helped me to sit on the toilet, “You’re sick.”
He sighed and closed his eyes, “Don’t move from here until I get back.”
I nodded and looked down, I let out a sigh and groaned, a divorce? He’s leaving Rei? Officially? I mean, it’s good cause this won’t be so scandalous anymore, but... it’s sudden.
I tried to stand by my thighs were shaky and weak. I paced my hands into hem and felt tears, I closed my eyes and let them fall, a new heat on my cheeks wiped them away, I looked to see Enji there, hands on my face, he could definitely crush my skull, his eyes looked sad, but his face was not showing that.
“I brought you water and some medicine to help with nausea. I don’t know what this is, but let’s get you to bed, you look tired, your cheeks and eyes are red and you look weak.” He didn’t let me answer as he gave me the medicine and stood up making his way to my room outside the bathroom and I could hear him moving the blankets.
Getting it my bed Enji told my to put my hand up, I did, he pulled my hoodie off leaving me in the tank top I wore underneath. Something fell but I don’t pay attention to what, but mostly because Enji was helping me sit, even if I didn’t want to. “You’ve already order food, I’ll wait here with you until gets here.”
He took my hand squeezed and I just nodded, the tears in my eyes, I didn’t even feel them, “So sweet.”
For a minute I forgot I was pregnant, until my phone gave a buzz, I looked ya it on the nightstand. I know the chime, it was for my period tracker, I’d neglected completely four times now. Enji didn’t read my phone simply handing it to me. I thanked him and swiped away the notification, “sleep.” He said and brought his free hand to brush my hair back, I craved his warm hand in this cold moment, “If you leave wake me up.” He nodded, and I sighed and started to shuffle in the blanket.
***
“(Y/n),” I was shook awake, I blinked a few times feeling hot in the blanket I sat and pushed it back, I stood up and just as I was about to answer, back in the bathroom.
“We should take you to a doctor.” I hugged and nodded, “yeeaaahhhh.”
“Do you have one?” He asked and looked at his phone.
“No sir.” I was honest.
I heard him sigh, “Take off that shirt,” I hear him walk away followed by some clattering. I pulled off my shirt and he brought back my hoodie, “Wear this, I’m taking you to a doctor.”
He left again and started to talk on the phone, I pouted and pulled on my hoodie after taking off my shirt, “bully, I didn’t even get my lunch.”
I walked spurns my house in the socks I just pulled on looking for my shoes, “where?” I dropped to my knees looking under the sofa, “are you?” I reached aliens and felt something.
“Shoes?” I asked and pulled out some old low sneakers that I used to wear.... once, when I tried to work out.
“It’ll work.” I shrugged and started to pull them on.
“Ready?” I answered back with “YES DADDY SIR IM READY!” I heard a heavy sigh and smiled pushing myself off the floor as he walked into the room, he held up a bag, my food.
“Get in the car.” He tossed me my keys, “No driving.” I nodded and rushed to my car and got in the passenger side and turned it on. I pulled on my seat belt and sat waiting, I huffed after literally two minutes passed.
I honked then smiled seeing Enji come into the garage, I got happy, I like car rides with Enji...kinda like a dog I guess.... he handed me the plastic bag and placed a lime soda in the cup holder, “Do NOT, open it until were on the road.” I nodded and waited, until we pulled out and took the turn.
I opened my bag and found the stir fry noddles is been craving all day, “Don’t way to much, if you puke again well have to stop and clean the car.” “Okay, got it.”
I started of eat and look out the window and indulge in the noodles. I stopped a quarter way in when I felt a shuffle in my abdomen. My food was hitting on an empty stomach, and it’s showing. I covered the food up and placed it back in the bag and tried to didn’t some soda. I finished the drink by the time we pulled up to a clinc.... a women’s clinic. I cringed at the sight. “Why here?” I asked.
“I thought you’d be more comfortable with a woman for your doctor.
“Okaaaayyyy.” I prepped myself to get out, I watched Enji get out with no hesitation, I still hesitated, until he came and opened my door offering a hand. I took it and was pulled back by my seatbelt. I laughed sheepishly and I clicked it before getting help again. We walked in and surprisingly empty, I guess the parking lot gave that away though. We walked in, Enji made me sit, he went and got the paper work from the secretary, and brought it back and I started to fill it out. I smiled as I gave back to him, and he got up and took it back. He told the nurse something and she nodded with a big smile. He nodded and came back to sit by my side. I felt nervous, and didn’t fight the bouncing of my leg, I shimmied closer to his side and leaned my head on his shoulder. A few minutes passed until they called. They took blood for vitamin checks, and muscle and bone stuff, urine for some tests, something about protein and I didn’t catch the rest. They told me to sit on the bed my doctor would be here soon. Then asked if I’d like Enji in the room or not, I nodded and said yes let him stay, I kNOW WHAT THIS IS.... maybe it won’t be so bad with someone else. A few more minutes and here she came, a short plump woman with bright eyes.
“I’m here, so tell me whats happening.” She said and didn’t even look at me, just read some papers.
“Well, I’ve been queasy, and I’ve been puking most of the day-“ I was wished by a hand on my back, “This will help you.” I watched Enji reach into his pocket and pull out a ziplock I cringed at the sight, the four tests I’d stuffed in my jacket.
The doctor took it and looked at them and laughed, “Well,” she smiled and clipped them to her board, “I’ll tell them to run the urine for a test.”
“Thank you.” Enji answered and she nodded then left.
“.......sooooooo, hows the weather up there?” I said not looking up at him. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He didn’t look at me, just ahead at the wall. I looked around, “I was scared, that maybe, you wouldn’t want it or you know....your past... that you might... you know.....” The sigh he let out was depressing, I tried to look at him. I was hurt, out of every fight I’ve ever seen him in, I felt like maybe, just maybe, this would be the lowest I’d ever see him. “I-“ “No, don’t say your sorry,” his stare still on the floor, “I don’t blame you.... for thinking those things, if you want to leave with this child then you can do so. I just want you to know these few things before you make a choice.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat, it’s weird because I’m not the one who just got emotionally wounded.
“I don’t deserve to be a father again, I know it, I understand the things I’ve done are not right. It can’t easily be forgiven. The things I’ve done can last over a life time, I’m working to fix all these things, I don’t want to hurt the one I love anymore, but I can’t stand the thought of hurting innocent people. I wanted to spend what’s left of my life with you, this is sudden, and you have the decision and freedom to decide what you think is best, but I promise you, this time, I will be the best man I can for you, and for this child. I don’t want to hurt anyone, I want to be the best I can and prove that I know what it’s like to be real father, to show I know what love really is. I won’t force you to make any decisions, and I won’t force my way into its life, I only want to do this, if you do this with me.”
I nodded and swallowed, great now IM crying. I tired to reach for his hand, “Enji.” His hand squeezed mine once I held his, “I’d love to share my life and first child with you,” I sniffled, “I don’t want my first child to not know it’s dad, so please, do everything you can to be there for us.”
***
“ILL,” I grunted and squeezed the hand burning my flesh, “I promise,” I let out a deep breath, “I’ll show you pain when this is over.” I took a few labored breaths, squeezing his hand, I pulled my hand out of his and took of my new wedding ring, “hold this it’s about to hurt us both once this head starts coming out.” I hissed feeling a sharp pain and then I felt it, it felt like a poop you can’t hold it, it dropped lower and “Alright Mrs.Todoroki, it’s crowning, so just give us a nice push-“
I flexed my lower abdomen and stopped when he said, I took breath, and clenched to Enji’s hand making sure to not squeezed my lower muscles in pain to avoid excessive bruising, “1...2...3... and push.”
I pushed again feeling pressure leaving my inside and pouring out of me, “Breathe,” the Doctor said and she looked up at me, “Someone has definitely been doing their workouts, this is going very quick and smooth.” She disappeared behind my legs and said “Last one,” a paused that felt like an hour, “Push-“ crying filled the room, “It’s a boy! Congratulations! Would you like to cut the umbilical cord Mr.Todoroki?” I let go of his hand but he hesitated, I nodded at him with a smile, the blood drained from him when he saw what everything looked like down there, he took the scissors and quickly cut before coming back to my side, “Placenta is coming.” She sis do felt another wave of pressure leaving me stomach, and I heard a wet plop, and a metallic sound. I shivered but quickly recovered when my necked son was placed on my now bear chest, I held him close and cried, he was a bit bloody still but I was so happy. The tears started falling as I hugged his gently and kissed his head of already bright red hair. “Precious, boy.” I said and gen’s got tried to rub some stuff off his face, he quickly attached to my breast and started to suckle,t tears didn’t stop as I looked up at Enji, he was wiping his own eyes.
“Have you thought of any names? Or should we wait a while?” The doctors said replacing her gloves and smock. “Well,” I looked up at Enji, “Things worked out, so? How about it?”
The doctor looked between us and Enji took the pen and notepad a nurse was holding, he wrote down the name and they nodded and took it, “Well then, I’ll leave you two with him a while longer until your pain has subsided and then we’ll take him to be weighed, and a few other things.”
We nodded and she smiled, “Congratulations, to the both of you.” Once more, after he stopped suckling I handed him to Enji and pulled my gown up, Enji seemed so scared, the baby WASNT small, he had rolls already, and they’re beautiful, but in Enji’s hands, he’s so small. “Hello,” he whispered and tried to cradle it ashore his chest on his forearm, it’s head resting against his bicep and pec. He brought his free hand to cover its torso and side, “I’m your father, I won’t ever leave you, I won’t ever hurt you, I never want to lose you, I’ll be with you always.” Call the hormone imbalance and recent loss of my child, but I was crying, I covered my face with my hands wiping the tears away, so cute.
***
“Enji?” I peeked into my room, nothing, “Enji?” Nothing was in the babies room, “Enji-“ there he was ok his back, on the floor, baby held up in the air, in his hands. The baby was laughing and flailing his arms and kicking. It was cute, I’d bought him an endeavor themed baby onesie, and Enji was wearing his hero costume without the armor. I stayed quiet watching as he stood up, and held the baby up to his shoulder, the baby placing a fist and his cheek on his shoulder, his eyes closed as Enji held him close. “I promise, I’ll never leave you.”
***
“where is he?!” I panicked and looked for my son, who just disappeared. I ran around the house and panic rose through the round when I heard gurgling don’t DROWN PELASE DONT DROWN BABY! Bursting into the master room fight or flight on high I felt stupid seeing Enji sleeping on his back arm circled around and pulling into his side the bundle of fire and Todoroki I was panicking for. The baby cooed moving closer to Enji, I sighed, my adrenaline wearing down, it was cute, especially when Enji turned to his side to hug our son to his chest, and mumbled out, “I’ll become someone you’ll be proud of, someone you can count on always.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a couple drinks in, the conversation of recording a track started up. Jimmy was actually quite excited, a Rolling Stones and Jimmy Page track was bound to happen sometime. Sure, Jimmy had played with them in his session days, but not anything to the extent of actually being featured and credited for the track. They decided to come back tomorrow to Bill’s home studio to record a track that might feature on the upcoming Goats Head Soup album. Two nights previous, he finished up the English leg of the 72/73 tour. In a couple weeks, Led Zeppelin would be embarking on their biggest tour yet - the 73 North American tour. There was plans to record a concert film and album, and Jimmy was really hopeful everything would work out.
“Lads I’m about to fucking pass out here, I’m out, see you all tomorrow yeah?”
“All right Jim, see y’a tomorrow, not to early mate right?”
After agreeing to come in the early afternoon with Bill , he bid goodnight to the rest of crew there, Charlie and the pianist for the album, Nicky. Sure, they weren’t as wild as the Toxic Twins, but they were still good company - better than getting drunk in his hotel room alone.
Walking back to his hotel room, the walk felt much longer than 10 minutes. Even though it was the beginning of February, and therefore the start of spring, he had to wrap his arms around himself to preserve body heat.
Reaching the hotel lobby, he was met with the warm air of the large room. Red carpets and gold accents adorned the room. It was quite late in the night - or early in the morning, so he decided to skip going to the bar in hopes of picking up a partner and instead, head straight to his room. On his way into the elevator, he passed two women, both wearing sunglasses. He thought that peculiar, and even more peculiar, he thought he recognised the woman with short brunette hair. After attempting to place the woman, he concluded he was in no state of mind to try.
Laying down on his bed, his thoughts wondered to Alice. He hadn’t heard anything about her since they were last together. He wasn’t even sure if she was still in the music business. He wondered would he ever see her again. He hoped he would, but a feeling in his gut told him it would happen eventually. Sooner, or later, he thought.
Waking up slightly hungover, he showered and prepared for the day of recording ahead. It wasn’t to be a serious session, more of a jam of sorts and hopefully produce a track in the process.
Strolling casually into Bill’s recording studio, he noticed that, as per usual, everybody was there expect Mick. On second look he noticed that Mick Taylor was not there either.
“Where are the Mick’s?”
“I think Jagger is just late, but oh, theres Taylor there now!”
Just as Keith finished speaking, Mick Taylor walked in, guitar case in hand. This would be the first time Jimmy and Mick played together, and he hoped they would get on well.
“Jimmy, great to see you again, ready to play?”
“Nice to see you too, lets get down to it shall we boys?”
Mick Jagger had finally arrived, so he and Keith were working on lyrics, while Charlie and Bill were working on rhythms and riffs, leaving Jimmy and Mick Taylor to work out the main guitar melody. They worked really well together, as they both had the same blues origins and both loved incorporating it into new material.
“So who's the sound tech here anyway” Jimmy asked, while in the process of tuning his guitar down.
“Allie, she's been with us for the album, she's great, have you met her before?”
“Hmm, the name doesn't sound familiar I don't think”
“Well she had an appointment, so she’ll probably be here within the next hour” Mick commented, a shy smile coming onto his face when mentioning her.
After around half an hour of messing around, the boys were finally ready to start the recording tapes. All that stopped then was the missing sound tech.
“Good afternoon boys, I, being your guardian angel have brought lunch for all of us” Alice said cheerily, bursting through the door with a bright smile.
Jimmy’s head shot up at the sound of her voice, suddenly connecting all the dots. The feeling in his gut about meeting her, the woman in the hotel, and the ‘Allie’ nickname.
“Oh thank you Alice, forgot to mention we invited a special guest to join our entourage, last night at Bill’s after you and Taylor left” spoke Mick Jagger with his usual eloquence.
“Alice!”
“Jimmy” Alice replied curtly, a hint of sourness in her blank expression. Jimmy was now in front of Alice, greeting her.
“It’s a pleasure to see you again, its been what, nearly four years! I didn’t even know if you were still an audio tech” Jimmy said warmly, excited to see her again
“I would say it’s a pleasure to see you too, but its not, so I wont” Alice casually said, blanking him, and moving further into the room. She set the bags of fresh food on the table, in the back of the recording section of the large hall. Jimmy watched her walk away casually, totally taken off guard by her coldness. The rest of the Stones all caught this too, extremely confused, but a little entertained by their encounter.
“Wait, you guys know each other?” Keith asked, a small smirk on his lips, pointing between the two.
“I would say used to know, I was on of the engineers on Zeppelin II in 69”
“Hold on, I didn’t know you worked Zeppelin II? That means you must have been a teenager when you worked on it. Blimey” Mick, asked, all of this coming news to him, as well to the others.
“I suppose you wouldn’t, after all I wasn’t even credited, nor my boss Tom” Alice said coolly, still not turning away from setting up the various soups and sandwiches.
Obviously, the teenage Alice that Jimmy once knew was long gone.
“God, Allie you look so old, what are you now? Twenty four, twenty five” Jimmy asked, sampling the new nickname, trying to break the stifling awkwardness that now infected the room.
“Still getting my age wrong I see, Jimmy. Im surprised you still know my name, after all the stunts you pulled over the last four years” Alice replied, walking directly towards Jimmy, accompanied with razor sharp glare. She now stood directly on front of him, slightly invading his personal space. She has grown taller and her face matured, loosing the slight roundness to her cheeks she once possessed. She apparently had cut off her long wavy crimson locks, in favour of a modern, dark brown bob.
“Uh, what’re you talking about?” Jimmy asked chuckling nervously as he scratched his head, hoping she wouldn’t notice his feigned innocence.
“Oh I’m sure you know, as does everyone else in this room. I don't really have the energy to continue this irrelevant conversation, or frankly, any conversation in general with you at this point. Also, it’s Alice to you” Alice stated sternly with a finger pointed to his chest. Jimmy could practically see the ice swirling in her cool blue eyes, the eyes he had come to miss over the years. He had never had encountered her true, red headed temperament. Now that he was on the receiving end, he desperately wanted to stay away from it.
“I’m not really hungry anyway, so I’ll be in the mod room if you guys need me” Alice said, directing her words to everyone but Jimmy, before leaving and entering the conjoining mod room. Mick Taylor quickly set his down his burnt orange Les Paul, then followed Alice out of the room.
“Woah, I haven’t seen drama like this since the last time Mick and Bowie had an arguement - which was last week, I think hmm” Keith remarked with a sarcastic finger on his chin, before moving to serve himself some soup.
“Actually Keef, I think this charade is a lot more entertaining than David’s and I’s little tiffs, as this is bit more of a lovers quarrel”
“Better not let Taylor hear that, or he’ll have to have a word with you Pagey” Bill commented, wide grin now on his face.
Jimmy was now the confused one. He turned to Charlie, silently asking him about Alice and Mick with the point of his finger. Charlie simply shrugged his shrugged his shoulders in response before going back to drumming a riff with the hi-hats and snare drums.
After everybody had ate or, cooled off, recording was finally underway. After a couple of takes, Alice interrupted to give some pointers.
“Look boys, I’m gonna be candid with you all. It sounds shit” Alice said into the mic. Ever since she had gotten more experience under belt, she became renowned for her no bullshit opinions. In turn, people valued her honestly and knew what she said was, more often than not, right.
“Yeah, boys let’s not sugarcoat it, we’re not exactly gelling as one” Keith commented, starting to become fed up with having to balance not only Mick Jaggers usual dramatics, but another egotistical lead guitarist in the mix.
“Okay, what do you think love?” Mick Taylor asked softly, trying to keep the peace before something erupted. He wasn’t wrong, the Stones, along with a quarter of Led Zeppelin, and a hot headed tech was a bit of a lethal cocktail. Fights often combusted quickly between the Stones and Alice, as all members were just as stubborn as each other.
“Well it sounds like there’s 5 Stones, and 25% Led Zeppelin playing. What I want, and what fans want to hear is The Stones featuring Jimmy Page. You five need to change your usual routine of recording for once and mix it up. And you” she looked to Jimmy “need to stop pretending you’re with the other boys. You both need to work with each others strengths and quit overcompensating. Stop pretending you’re something you’re not”
Everybody in the entire house probably could pick up that the last sentence was a direct jab to Jimmy. Another awkward silence passed, ultimately stemming from a staring contest between Alice and the famed guitarist.
“Oh my fucking god, kill me now” Mick muttered, pinching his nose, while Charlie just rolled his eyes and started drumming the start of the song. Eventually Keith started the riff with Mick Taylor,along with Bill and Charlie carrying the bass and percussion, and Mick Jagger singing the lyrics. Only when they reached the solo part, did Jimmy break eye contact with Alice and begin playing.
Finishing up recording, the boys all started to leave. Mick and Jimmy were the last to pack up their stuff, and an uncomfortable air fell over them. Obviously they both either had history, or were making history with Alice. Eventually Mick realised he should probably let the pair talk it out, so, as Jimmy toward the mod room door, Mick moved toward the hallway door.
“Alice, can we talk? Obviously things have become a bit strained between us, and I don’t want it to stay like this” Jimmy started softly. It was probably his choice of words that set Alice off, as immediately after his finished she whipped around from the sound board and kicked off.
“ 'Strained' Jimmy, are you serious?! Strained?! First of all, you didn’t even tell me you weren’t mixing the album with us, and then you just left after our night together. Then- don’t try to interrupt me James. Then, you barely even credit Tom for his songwriting tips on the album. You didn’t even mention me once, even whenever anyone brings up that Theremin part in ‘Whole Lotta Love’! You blush and go on to explain how it was your own fantastic brain that thought of it. The you had the audacity to diss Mystic studios in the papers! What was it you said again? Oh yeah, 'Mystic Studios was far from mystical and closer to meagre, and as a result, the workers were too.” Alice snarled, stream practically blowing out her ears.
“Okay, I agree that comment about Mystics’s capabilities was definitely wrong, I was extremely out of it in that interview- hell I even jibed Atlantic Records!” Jimmy was now getting frustrated too. Normally, no one put him in his place, or gave out to him.
“And then how cold you were about Tom!”
“Wait what happened with Tom?” Jimmy inquired, now serious.
“Oh my fucking god Jimmy” Alice shouted at him “you don’t even remember to you?” She said with a laugh. She searched his face, but all she saw was confusion in his light grey eyes.
“Tom had a fucking stroke last year. Peter told you, and don’t you dare deny it, as he told me he informed you all when I spoke to him on the phone. For Christ’s sake even Bonzo rang to see how he was doing! He didn’t even have my number, but he found it anyway! Robert and John joined the call after he finished speaking. When I asked for you, they said you were in a closet fucking a groupie!”
“Look Alice, I’m sorry, I don’t know what to sa-”
“I’m not surprised Jimmy, it’s a marvel you can play guitar at all, with having no fucking sense in your thick head”
“Stop being so fucking rude to me, you’re not perfect either! Don’t act so high and mighty! I know what went on in Geffen records! I’m mates with David Geffen” Jimmy was no shouting too. At the mention of David Geffen, Alice’s face immediately switched from red to a pale white.
“You do not know what happened between myself and David, if you did, you wouldn’t speak to him ever again” Alice spoke low and slowly, her face now white as a sheet.
Unbeknownst to the pair, all of the Stones were listening outside. When they heard Jimmy shouting about Geffen, Mick Taylor had enough and burst in. The rest of the boys tried to stop him, but he broke free.
“Jimmy, stop it. You don’t know anything about the Geffen incident. You don’t know Alice anymore. I suggest you leave her alone before I step in more. Al, let’s go, our driver is outside.” Mick stretched his hand out to Alice, her eyes now watery, trying to bite down her quivering lip.
Alice immediately joined Mick, and left without a second look to Jimmy.
Jimmy, now alone in the mod room, felt his gut twist with guilt. Had something bad happened with David Geffen and Alice? His mind wondered to Mick’s choice of words -‘incident’. He had heard rumours that were more damaging on David’s behalf, but being friendly with him, he thought he knew him better than all the tabloids and industry gossip.
Jimmy realised that both he and Alice had changed drastically in the last four years, how could he have expected everything to go back to how it was in the summer of ‘69? Now, they were even more distant than ever before.
Maybe they had missed their chance at eternity. Maybe the stars had uncrossed.
His heart nearly broke at the revelation.
guys im bored hear abt how i broke my arm. TW for broken bones, dissassociation, vomiting, drugs and needles. Also this is like. Therapy. Idk.
weird thing about it was that i was feeling intense happiness, because I’d just confirmed my classes for the next year and i was jsut. Really happy.
So i did this little twirly thing??? idk. Anyway, my ankle went out under my, i put my hand back and crack.
I know there was a definite seperation between the before and after of this. Like, the adrenaline made it feel like I was aware of everything.
After I fell, and after the crack, I stood up fast. I didn’t realise my wrist was fucked until I saw it - and it wasn’t a compound fracture, the skin was still unbroken. But it looked fucking nasty. It was supposed to be held straight, but the wrist was shifted.... up. And it was floppy, but I could control it if I wanted to be in immense amounts of pain.
I started walking over to my P.E. teacher. I said his name once, really loudly - and then he didn’t hear me, so I kept walking. I was cradling my wrist against my body at this point, and I just needed to move. It helped distract from my pain at that point.
When I reached him and he saw my wrist he was like fuck. He didn’t say it, but I could see it, and he said, “ Okay, we need to get you to the sickbay and call your parents.”
Okay, this happened before that when I was walking over. One of the people who was around me had walked beside me and was asking questions, and I straight up said, “Ruby, if you don’t walk away right now, I will either scream or burst into tears and scream, please go away.” I couldn’t handle anyone being near me.
Then when we were walking off the turf (where we were doing P.E. that day, as opposed to the gym.) one of the guys saw my arm and was like holy shit and I’m 99% sure I just looked at him with a really worried look. My face was going white I’m pretty sure, which is weird because I’m naturally flushed quite a lot of the time.
We had to walk up stairs. That fucking sucked. The pain was fine whenever it wasn’t jolting me, and we were walking fast, so you can imagine how I was trying to be very careful.
I’m 99% sure I was terrified that I was going to tip over again, and that would’ve hurt. I was just focusing on staying on my feet.
We got to the office/sickbay and they sat me down. I made myself get my retainer out of my mouth because it was.... foreign. I was going to - I’d say have a panic attack, but I’m not sure that’s the correct name for it - do something bad if I kept it in, because there was something already wrong with me and I just couldn’t handle it.
Also I asked if I could swear. Like, “Um, would it be okay if I, uh, swore?” and the person in there with me looked at me like wtf child and said i could.
Later, one of the teachers who’d walked by told me that they had no idea I had that filthy a mouth on me. Swearing helped a lot.
They made me put my wrist in this makeshift sling thing, which made me want to fucking cry. They sent someone to get my bag, and I told them to leave as soon as they’d gotten it, because I couldn’t handle any of my peers seeing my like that. probably because I felt extremely vulnerable.
I never swore at anyone. I can remember not wanting to, because I didn’t feel that they deserved it? Like, I didn’t want to take my pain out on them. Very strange.
They didn’t give me any panadol or nuramol or nurofen (pretty sure that isn’t how you spell it but eh). I can remember that, because they said that it might react badly to whatever drugs they gave me in the hospital.
When my mum got there, we went over to the car and I put my seatbelt on myself bc im independant like that, before I rolled my head back and scream-said to my mother to hurry up please I feel like I’m dying. Because she was talking to my teacher.
At that point I was being a melodramatic shit, because my pain level I think? was a four, unless I moved my arm, then it jolted into a six.
Anyway. I sung/murmured hamilton songs really fast as we drove the like, five minutes to the hospital because that helped distract me from the pain.
When we got to the hospital and the emergency room, we ended up waiting like 20 minutes which were all hell. My dad came at one point and I told mum he needed to leave because I couldn’t handle having him there. Not for any bad reasons, just that I fucking hated dealing with people and if I had to deal with him I’d cry.
I didn’t cry at any point during this, which was weird. I didn’t like that.
Someone gave me two panadol or something, which didn’t help in the least. They got mum to fill out an acc form - I can remember her asking me things. The pain was bad, like a constant throbbing that was there. I’m pretty sure I started not being there at some point during the time I was waiting. It was easier than dealing with it all, because there were people staring at me and my arm and I wanted to scream at them because none of them were as bad as me and why the fuck are you staring at me.
Anyway. When the nurse came - she was really nice - she got me into a room and to sit on a bed, and then we waited for what was maybe half an hour? There was an old guy dying or nearly dying in the room beside mine and I felt like.... weird because of it. It didn’t feel right, that he was dying.
When they got me a doctor - after me scaring the shit out of a nurse who I thought was a doctor  (i still cringe at the memory) - he ws really nice. He was wearing a haiwaiian shirt and was supposed to be going home, and I was quite lucky that they’d caught him as he was leaving.
They got me on some nitrous oxide to calm me down, or to take the pain away.
Now here’s where thigns get a little less linear, I think.
I can’t remember when they put the I.V. in, whether it was before or after the x-ray. The x-ray was hell, because they made me put my munted arm flat on the cold surface of whatever the fuck they were using for the xray. I had dropped the nitrous oxide tube thingy out of my mouth at that point.
The nitrous oxide was nice. It made me feel tired, and when the dude stuck the needle in my arm and then put the I.V. in, I didn’t care about it. I hadn’t been worried before, perse, just uncomfortable because of the whole broken wrist dealie.
Anyway. X-rays. They said I’d broken the tip off my radius. Then the I.V. Then they got an anathesiologist to come in and explain what was going to happen to me.
This whole time they’d explain exactly what they were going to do, because I asked. A lot. I needed to know what was happening so that then I would know what was going on and that was jus tme reiterating what I’d just said ahaha
Anyway. He explained the options, and in the end they decided to give me ketamine.
For those who don’t know, ketamine is a horse tranquilizer. Its also fucking nasty, coming back up from it.
Mum signed a waiver stating that the hospital wasn’t responsible if I died or something.
This was because, as they explained, ketamine shuts off a part of the brain. If too much of it is used, then you die because it shuts off your breathing, your heart, etc. They had shit that would stop that, if anything bad happened. They put electrodes on me at one point. At least, I think that’s what they were called.
They also might’ve upped the dosage, because what could’ve happened was that they fucked up setting my arm the first time, and they had to cut it out and redo it. If they’d redone it, I’d’ve had to go into theatre.
The whole time this was happening I was terrified I was going to out myself to my mum. I have an odd track record of saying weird shit randomly while I’m in pain.
Ketamine also takes you into a dreamland, which is why drug addicts can get addicted. You basically lucid dream, but way more intensely than normal, if you’ve ever ahd a lucid dream. Or it can take you into an absolutely hellish nightmare scape, if you aren’t thinking good things when you go under.
I had neither. I didn’t even know I’d gone under. What happpened was that they put the ketamine in the I.V., and a minute late I was out.
It felt like blinking. When I opened my eyes, it was like in movies where they blink and its a new scene each time.
Blink. They were moving me to the x-ray. My head ached. My eyes wouldn’t focus. Someone was talking about their car.
Blink. They were moving my arm.
Blink. They were moving me back to the room I’d been in.
Every time I moved my head, it just. It was on another side. I couldn’t focus my eyes for three quarters of an hour. I felt tired, and sleepy, and like shit.
Thye got me to sit up at one point. I nearly vomited. They gave me a pill. It was chalky and the taste was nasty.
When they got me to move from the bed to a chair, I vomited.
I hadn’t eaten for longer than six hours, at that point. It was bile coming up. It burnt my throat. I couldn’t stop.
When I forced myself to breathe again and stop vomiting, they gave me water and left me for a minute. They had people they needed to get in the room, I think, so I was trying to move. They got me into a chair in a bit that was in between the x-ray room and where I’d been. Mum talked with someone else who was there with her daughter.
The cast was big and white, because of the type of break. It was heavy and they put me in a sling when I left. I was able to walk straight. They’d been concerned I wouldn’t be. I’m pretty sure I thanked everyone who’d helped, if I saw them.
Mum took me to get subway. Then we went home.
My sibling had broken their arm around about a year and two weeks before I’d broken mine. Their’s had been the two bones in their lower arm. They’d had to go into theatre for it and have trauma around it. My parents won’t get them to go to therapy and they won’t go willingly
When I got home, they had a panic attack or some shit and started screaming at me when I was short at them. Fuck them for that.
I went into a room and started messaging my friends. i videocalled them and showed them my arm. i was acting all stupid and weird about it by being really silly and stuff. I didn’t feel like any of it was happening, even though I knew it was. At some point I found out I had the electrode thingies still on me. I pulled them off.
People were so concerned about me, it was weird. I ended up responding to them individually as opposed to not. Someone thought that it was a joke and that everyone was lying about it. I gave them a play-by-play and they believed it then.
Even weeks after it happened, it still felt vaguely not real. The first time I cried about it was seven days after, when I tried and failed to make homemade macaroni and cheese.
I learnt that the chunk of bone beside the wrist - the one down at the top of the ulna - had completely seperated from the rest of the bone.
All the wrist bones and muscles had pulled back, which was my wrist had been so weird.
Everyone who helped me was really nice. I’m glad that they were nice, because I got told later about doctors who were bitches and were in the emergency department. Also got told that ketamine was really fucking weird for them to be giving me.
I got prescribed Tramadol. Mum and dad wouldn’t let me take any of it. my sibling had been prescribed it when they’d broken their arm. they’d taken it. Apparently tramadol can put you in a depressive state.
i don’t know what would’ve happened to me if I’d taken it at that point. even before the arm my head was in a bad place. I’m better now though.
I pushed through the pain on panadol.
I broke my arm on a friday. saturday, sunday, I spent at home. Monday I went to school. Felt like passing out at some point.
Yeah, that’s basically what happened when I broke my arm
Comparing RWBY and YGO DM: The Handling and Evolution of Themes
Hey! Its been a hot minute since I last posted anything RWBY-related but Im laying in my bed right now and Im sick and bored so I guess we're doing this. Today I will do my best to analyze what I percieve to be the main themes and messages of both of these shows, or more specifically, how theyre handled narratively. Im mostly focusing on that part because, while these series do have similar themes and messaging, they are still a few things in which they are wildly different. And with that, lets start with this essay-post-thing!
1. Theres something we need to adress first
Okay so, before we can really talk about this, theres something I feel the need to clarify here: Neither of these stories was "planned from the beginning".
Now, I dont think a story being planned from the beginning or not nesscessarily makes the story any better or worse by default, however, it is still important to acknowledge because the way the story is planned is going to affect every facet of it. Things are not going to be foreshadowed properly, things are gonna be set up only for nothing to come of it, the story might drastically change directions, characters might act differently, etc, etc.
And, this is bit off-topic but, it's much better to just admit that the story was not planned than trying to pretend that it was. Like, there are a lot of reasons why I tend to be so forgiving towards YGO even though its not very good, but one of them is definitely the fact that, as far as Im aware atleast, the guy who wrote it isnt pretending to have had this big master plan all along and neither is the fandom. With RWBY on the other hand... yeaaaah, its kinda the opposite. From what Ive seen of RWBYs fandom, there seems to be this pretty popular narrative that everything was planned even though it clearly wasnt. Thats pretty bad and honestly lowers my opinion of the writers so much more than if they would just admit to not having a proper plan.
Like, I initially consumed YGO like this: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh (aka Season 0), like, a quarter of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga (I still havent finished it)
In all three of these we have the character of Yami Yuugi, or just Yami. Broadly speaking, he is an ancient egyptian gamer spirit who lives in a magical puzzle that has not been solved for 3000 years until this highschooler named Yuugi Mutou comes along and solves it, thus setting him free and allowing him to possess Yuugi and have access to the vague magical powers of the puzzle.
In Duel Monsters he's perfectly fine most of time, morally speaking. There is an instance of him almost murdering a guy and its a bit unclear what exactly happens to those he mindcrushes but overall he's very much a pretty good guy. In Season 0 most of what he does is set up these games for bad people, where they will go insane no matter what they do. From how I understand this whole Shadow Game, Penalty Game stuff, if you lose a Shadow Game, you get violent and intense hallucinations and you will always cuz yknow, gamer spirit. But if you try to cheat, which most of the bad people do in this show, you get violent and intense hallucinations as a punishment.
Since the two anime are generally considered two different continuities, its perfectly fine that Yamis characterization is wildly different in both of them. But in the manga both of these characterizations appear, basically one after the other with no real arc or consequences, for that matter. Why is that? Simply put, someone thought it was a good idea to try to turn an episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror manga into a more traditional, more plot-driven battle shounen. From what Ive heard, it was apparently largely because of network interference or something, but the point is, it changed directions incredibly drastically with little planning and everyone knows this and I can understand that for the most part.
In RWBY we have the character of Blake Belladonna, who, in the first 3 volumes/seasons atleast, was this aloof, more toned down loner-type character with a pretty strong sense of justice. She's an in-universe marginilized racial minority and she clearly cares about racial injustice. The way its initially framed makes it seem like she had a very hard life and no stable support system, which is what eventually pushed her to join a Civil Rights group/Terrorist organization (good god, the Faunus subplot is so awful, I could write a whole essay about it but Im already de-railing rn so I'll just save that for later).
Then, in volumes 4-5 it turns out her father is actually like, the mayor or chief of this island-place called Menagerie and she grew up in this big mansion with multiple guards/servants. Oh and also, apparently "space is a commodity" on there, so theres that. She still retains large parts of her personality but she's kinda like, worse somehow I think. I cant really describe it in a meaningful way but I hope you get what Im saying anyway. Then in Volume 6 she confronted her emotional abuser Adam (sorry for not mentioning him sooner but yeah, he was like, her abusive boyfriend, which is something that a lot of people disagree with but I wont really say anything about it either way because I dont really feel any specific way) with her friend, Yang, and ended up killing him.
After all that, she pretty much lost the rest of her personality, as well as her arc about all the Faunus stuff. She just kinda became the meek, generically nice, recovering abuse victim. Why? Well, the actual reason is that they didnt plan out shit and are just kinda flying by the seat of their oversized clown-pants and if they and the fandom just admitted it, I would have less of an issue. I still wouldnt be as forgiving towards RWBY as I am towards YGO because the crux of the issue, for me, is just that I dont particulary like RWBY but also like. Do you really expect me to take MKEK seriously as writers after admitting to not have a timeline because iT wOuLd CaUsE pLoThOlEs?
However, since they want us to believe that everything was planned out from the beginning, the explaination would be.... Idk, they deliberately butchered one of their main characters?? Because.. they hate her?? Maybe????
So yeah, that was quite a detour however, I would like you to keep this mind going forward.
2. Themes of the Early Series'
First, what do mean by 'Early Series' for both of these shows respectively? Well, for YGO that would have to be Season 0 or if youre reading the manga, everything pre-Duelist Kingdom. Basically, the part of the series thats a episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror series.
For RWBY that would be the first three Volumes, also known as the Poser-Era. Back then it was just kinda an action series that took place at Anime Warrior Academy (also known as Beacon) with some pretty bare minimum worldbuilding, character-driven plots and developments but now its more of an epic high-fantasy story with more of an emphasis on plot as opposed to just action.
The themes and messages in Early YGO are kinda vague, very confusing to me and if you were to follow any of it literally that would be pretty bad. For now Im just gonna say the main themes are Friendship and Identity and mostly focus on the Identity aspect.
Now, it took me a little while to figure out RWBYs deal but I think the main themes for Volumes 1-3 are also Friendship and Heroism. Once again, I'll mostly focus on Heroism and touch on Friendship more briefly later.
I dont have much more to add to YGOs themes right now, so I'll briefly go over Heroism in RWBY.
In RWBYs setting there are these man-eating monsters called Grimm that have basically infected the planet. In order to deal with that, they have people called huntsmen and huntresses that kill them and protect people. Theyre trained at special academies like Beacon and go on missions there and stuff like that. Our four main characters, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang, are training to become huntresses and one day they go on this mission to clean up a grimm infested city block with one of their teachers. Obviously, that takes a long time so they have to camp out in one of the empty houses. Weiss, Blake and Yang cant sleep because theyve been thinking about this question that their teacher asked them when they were fighting grimm: "Why do you want to become a huntress?"
They have a heart to heart and we find out about their motivations; Weiss wants to bring honour back to her family, Blake want to distance herself from the White Fang (that terrorist organization I mentioned earlier) and as an extension from Adam, Yang wants to have a life of adventure. They also talk about why Ruby wants to be a huntress and it turns out that she judt wants to help people. Unlike the others, she has no motivation besides that. We're meant to listen to that and look at her as a sort-of personification of Heroism: kind, but not naive, strong and most of all, selfless. The others on her team are not portayed as bad for not being like Ruby by any means but we are clearly meant to admire her the most out of all of them.
Okay, now comes the part Ive been looking forward to the most:
3. How did these themes evolve in the Modern Series'?
Alright, before we can really delve into the way they evolved in YGO I'll have to give you a brief summary of the character progression. At the start of DM, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Yami Yuugi is just that; A darker Yuugi. Hes more confident, bolder, his voice is deeper, hes somehow taller, more ruthless, all that good stuff. Notably, he doesnt actually seem more skilled than Yuugi even at the start of this story, but he's still dependent on Yami. Yami on the other hand, has no identity of his own or even hints at one at this point. He's just The Other Yuugi.
Then during the Battle City arc, they find out that Yami was actually a pharao prior to being sealed in the puzzle, he just didnt know because of amnesia, I guess. So now they need to find out his real name and then send him to the afterlife because hes meant to be dead, but not before saving the world from being swallowed by darkness, which is also a thing they have to do now.
Then we finally get to the Memory World arc, where Yami, Yuugi and the rest of the gang astralproject to ancient egypt via puzzle magic. Yami is trying to figure out what the hell is going on and who all these familiar people are, while Yuugi & Co are trying their best to help him. Then some weird shit happens and it turns out that all of that is not just Yamis sealed away memories, but also a giant D&D Shadow Game that will destroy the world if Yami loses. So now theres Pharao!Yami who is still clueless on the metaphorical and literal playing field and Player!Yami, who is kinda controlling himself now? I guess?? Yamis opponent, The Spirit of The Ring, has something similar to that going on where hes both controlling and properly participating in the game. So Player!Yami is now fighting against Player!TSoTR, Pharao!Yami is now fighting against Thief King Bakura (who is like, the human, ancient egyptian version of the Ring Spirit) and Yuugi is now fighting against Yami Bakura (who is like, the human, modern japanese version of the Ring Spirit). Yuugi gets Yamis real name, he and the gang go over to Pharao!Yami and tell him his name, meanwhile Player!Yami is also somehow helping as well and they defeat the Ring Spirit, thus saving the world. Then they travel to modern Egypt, the Ceremonial Duel happens and Yuugi wins, sending Yami to the Afterlife where he can finally rest and that was the series!
I originally wanted to recount the stuff that was going on with the Ring Spirit and his host as well because they parallel eachother, but this summary is already far too long and I think youll get the point without me needing to explain any more.
My point here is, that the story went from being vaguely about Identity, maybe? to being very clearly about Self-Discovery and Learning to Be Independent. I think this is a very good way to evolve the messaging of your story. How does RWBY track on that?
Well, uh... its not great. I will acknowledge that they have tried to introduce new themes and ideas since, even though I wont really be talking about them in this post. But yeah, the whole Heroism thing really regressed.
Like, I didnt explicitly say it when I was explaining grimm earlier, but theyre not going away. The grimm have always been there and people who sign up to become huntsmen and huntresses are effectively signing up for a job that will never truly be done, no matter what they do. Characters like Ruby and even more minor ones like Phyrrah have shown us that that doesnt matter when youre a hero. No life isnt worth saving, no grimm isnt worth killing, no criminal isnt worth arresting. Then, in volume 6 they find out about Salem. Salem is the Big Bad of the show, shes immortal, controls the grimm and is supposed to be very powerful.
What do our heroes do? They give up. Sike! They were just mindcontrolled by monsters or some shit, of course they didnt give up their mission (which is to bring an Important Macguffin to a city called Atlas, sorry I didnt mention it)!
But then they arrive in Atlas (which is llike, a city thats floating over another city called Mantle) and yknow, they do some plot stuff thats not really important right now until the city gets invaded by Salem and this big grimm army she has.
What do our heroes do? Well, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and some side characters are chilling, drinking tea in a mansion and Yang and the B Team were actually trying to do something, but even those efforts seem incredibly minimal.
Oh wait, I also forgot to mention that Ironwood (a fairly minor, vaguely antagonistic character up until now) wanted to lift Atlas even higher to save Atleasian civilians from danger while leaving Mantle vulnerable to Salems invasion.
What would be the most heroic thing to do?
A) Let Ironwood lift Atlas, get as much support as they can down to Mantle and save as many Mantle civilians as they can from the invasion
B) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas but then split up in order to protect both Atlas and Mantle civilians
C) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas and then dont do anything else
Congrats! If you choose C, you think exactly like the writers!
And I just
This is so mindboggling to me, I feel like I shouldnt even have explain how this is bad. And like, it wouldve been so easy to actually make them seem herokc through their actions, to make it seem like they did try but no.
I have never seen a central theme be this botched, how in the world did they do that? Why did they think it was a good idea for Ruby "The Embodiment of Heroism" Rose to sit in a mansion doing nothing, no planning, no organizing just ..... God, how are they this bad? Like, this doesnt even have anything to do with it being planned in any way, this is just straight up incompetence
4. Very briefly touching on friendship
The friendship is awful and its not solely because they all have the same opinions. They barely interact with eachother outside their designated pairs which leads to it all feeling incredibly hollow. Theyre also practically indistingushable from one another now, which is a shame because it wasnt always like that. Like, I dont think the characters were that well-developed in earlier volumes but they were very well-characterized. But now we've gotten to a point where you can literally copy and paste one characters dialogue onto another and literally nothing changes, it really sucks.
5. Some closing words
Damn, this took way longer than I thought it would and now Im pretty exhausted. I have no idea how yall always write these but props to you! I feel like this ended up a bit rambly but overall, Im pretty proud.
Please let me know what you think of the points I brought up! Id also really appreciate some tips on how to get better at these longer posts because I am planning on writing more in the future (not the near future, probably but yknow).
Thats all I have to say for now, thanks for reading!
Matter of National Emergency- Liam x MC
Tumblr media
Pairing: Liam x Riley
Summary: Liam and Riley are in Isolation in Valtoria...and one of them may succumbed to the almightly Tik Tok! <-- can you tell im bored?
Word Count: 1,667
Masterlist
 ASK IF YOU WANT TAGGED! SORRY IF I MISSED ANYONE!
I always notice every single spelling mistake or issue after I’ve posted…so apologies in advance!
Tags aren’t working so I will be tagging in the comments.
Liam sighed as he entered his and rileys quarters at Valtoria, shutting the door behind him. It was just hitting seven o’clock when he returned from his last meeting. Liam and Riley loved coming to stay at Valtoria, it felt more like a home than the palace did, after they got married they stayed at the palace whilst they had some renovations at Valtoria done, they had the royal quarters basically  turned into a reasonable sized apartment.
“hey, how was your meeting?” Riley called from the en-suite, she was just coming out as Liam had walked into the bedroom, she made her way over to him, moving to her tiptoes to press a kiss against his lips.
“it was…stressful” He sighed as he placed his hands on her lower back, nuzzling his head into her shoulder
“so…what happened? What’s the decision?”
“Lockdown, as I assumed would be the result, people aren’t listening to how serious this is, they don’t understand that the more they go out, the more people are going to catch this thing and more people are going to die from it,  it’s really the only solution if people aren’t going to listen”
“I understand, so when are you announcing it”
“this evening, I’m going to shower and change then head to my office. ive sent everyone home, Bastian insists he is staying in Valtoria with us, so it’s just me, you and Bastian, he is currently setting up the camera for the live feed”
Once he showered, he dressed in a crisp white shirt and black dress pants with a blazer.
“I won’t be long my love” Liam smiled as he kissed Riley then headed out for his office.
Once Liam reached the conference room, he greeted Bastian then sat himself down at his desk across from the big camera sitting in front of the desk.
“is everything set up?”
“yes, your Majesty, you go live in just under a minute, your statement is written out for you, just in case you need it”
“thank you, Bastian,”
“alright, you go live in 10 seconds” Bastian informed him from behind the camera.
Liam quickly fixed his collar then straightened up. as soon as he seen the light change on the camera he began.
“Ladies and Gentlemen of Cordonia. This is an Emergency announcement from your King. As you all know the corona virus is sweeping the nation. last week I gave the orders to self-isolate if you are a vulnerable person, and many people did, but not all, a few days ago, I gave orders to shut all non-essential business’ and to stay home where possible but again not all listened so as your King, as your leader, I have decided that the best course of action is to go into lockdown, you must know, I hate that I have to do this but if people aren’t going to take this seriously then more people will become infected and more people will die. I am going to lay down some rules that every person in Cordonia MUST follow until further notice. Number one…you must only leave your homes if absolutely necessary, this means, if you need supplies such as food, essentials that you most definitely cannot live without! Number two, you may leave your homes for exercise, once a day for one hour! if you need medications, I have organised for all medications to be delivered to homes, if you need to see a doctor…call the helpline that is on the screen right now, you will speak to qualified nurses, if the nurse decides you should be seen in person, you will then be allowed to leave your home and attend a doctors surgery or hospital. All in all this means you should only be leaving your homes if absolutely necessary The sooner the public follow these rules, the sooner this will start to go away, I don’t want to see groups of kids walking around outside, meeting up with their friends, I don’t want to see people joining in groups for any reason what so ever. Queen Riley and myself are self-isolating along with you, we know it’s going to be hard, sitting in your homes, not able to go outside, when it’s lovely and warm or going to see your friends, but spend this time wisely, be with your family’s, spend time with your husbands, your wives, your children and your parents, time that you wouldn’t be able to spend with them if you were out working or at school, we have seen what this virus has done to other countries, please don’t let this vile virus take control, I wish you all the best, stay healthy.”
Once Liam finished, he bid Bastian goodnight then headed back to his and Riley's quarters. Once he entered, he shut the door behind him, making his way towards the kitchen where Riley was getting herself some water. Liam walked in, wrapping his arms around her from behind.
“hey, I was thinking we could go to bed and put a movie on?” she smiled sympathetically as she seen how tired he was.
“you know I think that’s the best idea ive heard all week” he smiled
The two made their way to the bedroom, they done their usual night-time routines of washing their faces, brushing their teeth and such then the two took themselves to bed. it didn’t take long before the two of them were out cold.
Liam woke to a giggle coming from beside him, he opened one of his eyes just enough to see the time on the alarm clock on his bedside table. 3:00 am. He groaned as he turned over to be blinded by the light from Riley's phone.
“what are you laughing at? Its 2am Riley.”
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t sleep” she laughed as she carried on watching the video on her phone.
“are going to sleep at all tonight?”
“yeah I’m just putting it down.” Riley pressed the screen off then placed the phone on her bedside table then shuffled over to Liam, she yawned as she cuddled into his chest causing him to instinctively wrap his arms around her. “I’m sorry I woke you up” she whispered before placing a kiss to his skin.
“It’s alright, sweetie” he placed a kiss on top of her head before the two fell into a deep slumber
The next morning Liam awoke to an empty bed, he frowned at the empty space that his wife should have been in, she had no reason so be up this early as the country was currently on lockdown, they had no meetings or obligations, they would have the odd conference call but that was it. He stretched as he removed the duvet and climbed from the bed, pulling a pair of lounge pants on before heading towards out of the bedroom.
“Riley sweetie?” he called when he didn’t see her in the living room.
“I’m in the kitchen”
“Morning beautiful what are you doing up?” Liam asked as he made his way to her wrapping his arms around her from behind as she finished fixing the mugs of tea she was making.
“I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep, I hardly slept a wink all night.”
“oh really?” he asked as he nuzzled his head into the crook of Riley's neck.
“yeah, hey I’m sorry I woke you up this morning, I feel awful.” She sighed as she passed him one of the mugs of tea
“I told you this morning and I’ll tell you again now, it’s fine, don’t worry about it” he replied as he gently pressed a kiss to her lips. “I love you” he added
“I love You too” she smirked, the two made their way into the living room where they curled up on the sofa whilst catching up with the morning news on the television.
“I don’t know who pissed 2020 off but whoever was I hope karma comes around and kicks them in the ass!”
“I’ll toast to that!” Liam chuckled as he tapped his mug against Riley's.
“hey…I heard a joke on tiktok last night, when I couldn’t sleep oh my goodness…what was it again?” Riley went quiet for a minute then started laughing “oh god that was it…”
Liam smirked at how funny she found the joke; he sipped his tea as she went on to tell him.
“so little johnny’s sitting in class and the teacher says she has a math problem for him, she says, if there’s 5 birds sitting on a wire and little johnny shoots one how many’s left? So little johnny says none, the teacher says no, the answers four and johnny says no, the answers none ‘coz If I shot one the rest would fly away, the teacher says, I like the way you think.”
Liam looked at Riley confused but laughing at Riley trying to get her words out in between laughing.
“okay…” he smirked
“little johnny says, I got a question for you, if there’s three women sitting in a store eating ice cream cones and one of them is licking it, one of the is sucking it and the other is biting it, which ones married…so the th-the teacher HAHA the teacher hesitantly replies, well I guess the one sucking it and little johnny…oh my god…” just as Liam took a drink of his tea Riley finished the joke, “little johnny goes no, the one with the wedding ring, but I like the way you think.”
Liam spat his tea out as he went to laugh, he chuckled as he wiped his chin where his tea ended up.
“is that why you were laughing this morning?”
“yeah” she chuckled
“that’s hilarious”
“what times your conference call?” Riley asked him
“1pm”
“okay, do you want to have lunch out on the balcony before your meeting, it’s supposed to be really nice out today”
“I would love to”
By the time half 12 hit Liam and Riley had just finished their lunch and were sitting outside on the balcony, just getting some fresh air.
“y’know even though the reason the countries on lock down is bad, I’m so happy we get to spend some time together and it’s not rushed or last minute, we can just sit and be together” Liam smiled as he took Riley's hand across the table.
“I totally get it, the reason behind it is bad, but the time we’re gonna get to spend together is a blessing and we can’t take it for granted.”
When it was time for Liam to go, they both headed inside, he placed a gentle kiss on Riley's lips then headed down to his office, whilst Liam was at his conference call Riley curled up on the sofa scrolling through her phone.
It was just a short 45 minutes later that Liam returned to the apartment, Riley had fallen asleep on the sofa, with Bash, their protective corgi, curled up sleeping at her feet. Liam decided to get some paperwork out of the way whilst, Riley was sleeping.
It was just after 5 when Riley woke, she heard Liam in the kitchen, so she got up and made her way to him. when she walked in her was stood boiling the kettle to make some tea. Riley approached him from behind wrapping her arms around his torso and cuddling into his back.
“I love you Liam” she whispered tiredly
I love you too” he smiled as he turned into her hold, placing a kiss on her lips. “do you want a cup of tea?”
“that would be great” she smiled
“did you sleep well?”
“I did! Better than last night anyway”
Once Liam made the tea, he passed Riley one of the mugs then the two sat at the kitchen table with them.
“I found another funny tik tok” Riley grinned
“alright, hit me with it” Liam smirked
“so…there’s a family with a little boy, driving behind a trash truck on the highway, suddenly a vibrator flies out and hits their windshield. To try and save their sons innocence the woman goes, oh that was a huge bug! And the little boy goes, damn mom how does a bug fly with a dick that big!”
Liam nearly choked on his drink; he slapped his hand on the table as he threw his head back laughing. “damn, who do you even follow on this thing” he laughed
 Riley climbed out of the shower, wrapping her towel around her, she dried herself off just as she went to lift the nightgown she had brought into the bathroom with her, she remembered she seen a trend of people walking out in front of their wife or husband naked to see what their reactions would be on tik tok, now of course, she wouldn’t be filming it but she knew it would be a lot of fun for the two of them, she smirked knowing what it will result in after Liam sees her. she walked out of the bathroom with her towel around her, she walked out of the bedroom and stood on the other side of the living room, Liam was sitting on the sofa with his back to her just about to finish up his call. Riley smirked as she unwrapped her towel, she slowly walked over towards the kitchen throwing the towel at Liam as she walked causing him to turn around. She smirked as she seen his face go from confused at the towel to his jaw dropping and nearly hitting the floor “damn baby” he mouthed as he watched her bare behind walking into the kitchen. She grabbed a glass of water to quench her thirst then as she turned around she seen Liam leaning over the end of the sofa so that he could see into the kitchen, Riley smirked with a wink as she headed into the room, swaying her hips as she walked past him, Liam stuck his arm out to stop her from going any further, he wrapped his arm around her legs gently pulling her closer to the sofa, he ran his hand up and down her leg.
“i-im…I’m sorry…I have to cut our conversation short” he quickly spoke into the phone. “I know but…it’s a matter of national emergency” he replied as he stood from the sofa, eyeing Riley's chest.
“ok…goodbye” he hung up then flung his phone onto the sofa with a grin on his face.
“are you ready?” he asked putting his hands on her waist as he leaned his head down, placing kisses along her jaw.
“ready for what, baby?” she sighed contently as she ran her fingers through his hair.
“for the wildest night of your life” he smirked as he reached down, hooking his arms at the back of her legs as he lifted her over his shoulder, receiving a happy squeal from her. He gently slapped her backside as he made his way to the bedroom with her.
CONSTELLATIONS (PART FOUR)
Tumblr media
Summary: Being stuck in space with ARES was not your plan, especially when a certain someone finds out you haven’t been intimate with anyone in your life.
Notes: Virgin Reader x Chris Beck, swearing, NSFW (18+)
exactly 12 months.
one whole year.
that was the time you were in space.
Coming home the media had a frenzy by the time the crew landed, getting this much attention was something you weren’t used to - Lewis however explained it would blow over in the next few months. There was a lot of newscast there when all of you walked out of the center after the landing. It took a few days for all of you to get used to the feeling of Earth again, and conditioning had to take place at the amount of time you were in space. There was only one thought on your mind - your Mother. Within a week of your release, you stayed every day and every night at her bedside. She was still in the hospital, going through chemo and the Doctor explained all of what she had endured. It nearly shattered your heart to pieces, knowing you missed so much time with her. But all that mattered in this moment was that you were here. The other alarmingly aware fact was that you hadn’t said a word to Beck since you landed, which of course partly because you were too freaked out by the whole idea of him. Up in space in your mind he was just a friend helping out a fellow friend. You honestly didn’t think you would lose your virginity in space - and if the world knew they would have an absolute heyday in the press. Which is why part of you was nervous it would get out somehow. Lewis found out shortly after the two of you started things up, and she warned the both of you of how many rules and regulations you were breaking - yet she didn’t stop it. In fact, she said she pretty much predicted it. After that moment, that very moment, you thought of how you first met Chris. Your mind went there often. Never thinking he would be the one, he would be your first.
Training school, First day.
The quiet classroom nearly brought you into a nerve wrecking state. Of course your first day was going to be a anxious experience, but you knew you wanted to do this. To become an astronaut was to have purpose in the world in your mind. Here you were, about to embark on that great journey. You stepped in, the quietness now seeping in your thoughts. You bit your lip out of habit whenever you were in a new environment, and your eyes were so distracted by the large board - you feet had stumbled across the room. Your cheeks grew hot, wondering if anyone had seen you. You looked up for just a moment, to see a pair of crisp white shoes. Your eyes flickered up to the body, seeing a man looking to you in a sympathetic smile.
“Jesus, you okay?” The man bent down to help you, and you noticed his blue eyes in that moment.
“Uh, yeah I’m fine.” You coughed out, grabbing your things quickly.
Your mind drifted to how incredibly cheesy this was, He was helping you with his books. But you weren’t the type of girl who fell for that kind of shmuck. Well, you thought you weren’t. You took a moment to focus, watching as the man with bright blue eyes looked to you in concern.
“Chris.” He laughed softly, offering his hand to you.
“Y/N.”  You murmured politely, “Thank you. I can be a klutz.”
“Hey, no problem. At least in space, tripping isn’t much of an issue. right?” Chris smiled to you, hitting your arm lightly.
“Yeah, I guess not.” You smirked softly, “Maybe in these years of training I’ll gain my balance.”
Chris smiled to your comment, and then he was gone. You watched carefully as he made his way to his seat. By chance you had made contact with the spot you were hoping for, the very back. Your eyesight bid you well, and you didnt like the idea of people looking over your shoulder for some reason. You made your way to your seat quickly, and as you sat you saw the blue eyes you had looked into just moments ago, flicker back to you. He smiled politely again to you, and his eyes moved from your gaze in a smirk.
Present time, Apartment 102.
It clouded your mind again, wondering if Chris had thought about that day, or if he even remembered it. You decided that he most likely didn’t, you saw him with another girl later that year. You remembered her vividly as well, she was gorgeous. It was almost like she was a NASA barbie doll, which was very different from what you were. You were much shorter, and you definitely didnt have the long lucious blonde girls like she did. It made you think why Chris even agreed to have sex with you. It was obvious you weren’t exactly his type. It only made you doubt yourself, wondering if he was just planning on helping you out just for the sake of being in space. Maybe he just missed the touch of a woman - You were the only single one aboard the spacecraft. It made sense, the both of you just containing your little affair to the mission. Now you were home, and the idea of Chris being in your life was more terrifying than anything. It was mainly because of your experience with relationships.
Jacob.
You had started dating him a couple months in your training school, he was a Satellite Communications Engineer student - which meant his job was set to be a lot different from yours. He was kind to you at first, almost timid. But it was always the quiet ones, your mother warned, and she was right. He pressured you while the both of you were dating, and it only deterred you more from letting him be your first. Not only that, he was violent. Most days you would end up with small bruises, sometimes to your arms. Sometimes to your eye. You remembered explaining to Chris aboard the mission about him, and at that time he comforted you. You managed to make it very clear you didn’t want to see Jacob, and although he apologized for his actions - you could never go back. That was the dent in your exterior, making you only add to the wall built emotionally around you. It was some kind of miracle that Chris Beck managed to sneak his way in, only if it were for intimacy. The problem that you faced was you missed it. You missed him. Not just the sex, but the other quiet moments. The hushed tones in your deep conversations, the late nights he would come to your private quarters just to hold you. As you said, it could’ve just been the need to feel another person so closely. But you still missed it. You missed him. A soft knock broke your thoughts, and although you thought it almost impossible - you opened the door to what your mind had consisted of.
“Hey.” Chris choked out, and you could see it mustve taken him a moment to muster the courage to knock.
“Beck.” You smiled politely, “Whats up?”
“Wow. Casual. Okay.” Chris laughed nervously, and you noticed his hand behind his back.
“I- Shit. I’m sorry. How are you?” You mumbled, knowing how careless you sounded.
“Well, I just-“ Chris chuckled again, “I remember you saying you wanted starbucks.”
You tilted your head, knowing now what he was hiding. You smiled softly, taking it from his hold.
“Uh- thanks.” You smirked, “I got one like a week ago though.”
“Well, not from me. I promise its a lot sweeter.” Chris grinned to you, taking a sigh, “Look I know you’re avoiding me. You don’t have to.”
“Im not” You lied, biting at your lip softly.
“Yes you are, because I know you do that when you’re nervous. Come on, go out with me.” He smiled again, poking softly at your side.
“Chris, come on.” You shook your head, the idea almost ridiculous, “We’re not in space anymore you don’t have to do me any favors.”
His face fell at your words, and you knew that moment you mustve hit a nerve.
“You think it was just me doing you a favor?” Chris’ eyes looked to you in disappointment, and you felt the guilt rise in your chest, “Babe, come on.”
You flickered your eyes from his, knowing you couldn’t get sucked in once again. Especially now that you were back to reality.
“Chris, I-…I appreciated that you, did that for me. I do. It’s just I’m not…ready” You mumbled, the words struggled out.
He took a deep breath, moving closer to you he placed his hands at your jaw.
“Look at me,” You could hear the gentle tone, and it caused you to oblige at his words, “I’m not going to rush you. But I want to be with you.”
You couldn’t think of anything to say in this moment, his thumb now holding you chin in a sign of affection.
“The sex is just a bonus.” He smirked to you, and you felt his arm wrap behind your back. You laughed lightly, already feeling the heat rise at your cheeks.
“Well we aren’t in enclosed space any longer.” You bit your lip now in a suggestive manor, hoping he would catch on.
He grinned widely to you, his eyes now falling at your lips, “You’re right. We have the freedom to do whatever we want.”
“Or wherever we want.” You whispered, and you couldn’t help but feel the need for him grow in you. You took in his scent due the closeness, and it nearly caused you to get lightheaded. He smelled so good, and you knew from experience he tasted even better.
“Lead the way, sweetheart.” Chris whispered, placing the coffee on the nearest surface.
You took his hand, and you knew exactly where you wanted to lead him.
Just down the hall to the bed that had been vacant for so long.
In your whole life, you’d never hated yourself more than you did right now.
The rain pounded to the window, and you were finally leaned up due to the vacant spot in the bed. You were sure the guilt was written on your face, yet he wasn’t going to notice. You watched carefully as Chris dressed, the silence nearly killing you. You were almost bitter at the rain, knowing it was just your luck it would be cold out today. Your arms had prickles from the cold room, you were only in your bra still. You swallowed out, wondering if saying anything would help. But as you watched him, his expression was vacant and he still looked heartbroken. God, you hated yourself so much right now. Last night was supposed to be amazing, of course since it would’ve been the first time the both of you would’ve slept together since the spacecraft. It was at first, even though you tried to deter Chris from the slow process, you wanted it to be quick - mainly because you knew if you let him see that vulnerable part of you would mean you would let those walls down. You succeeded throughout the most of it, and for some reason.. some stupid reason - when he was nearing his finish, you panicked. You faked it. The thought now becoming a reality, it broke your heart. Mainly because Chris knew you too well, and the look on his face when you pretended to follow behind him. God he knew - you could see it on his features, and you’d never seen him so hurt. After it happened, he hadn’t said a word to you - and here he was dressing quietly, still no words to say. You almost felt the tears threaten to spill, but you didnt have the courage to show him vulnerability. The worst part is, you even talked about him meeting your mother today.
“Chris.” You choked out quietly, and you noticed his head turn slightly to you.
“I have to go.” He mumbled, and before you could ask if he was going to show up, he had walked out.
The hospital was cold too, and you felt like everything today was your doing. Everything that went wrong only felt like it connected to last night. Even now, as you sat on the side of your mother’s hospital bed - she was struggling to find a doctor who would take her type of insurance. The current doctor she had wasn’t too keen on taking her on without the right pay. You obviously didn’t understand it - why someone wouldn’t want to take care of someone who was sick, no matter the money issue. You offered to pay, but your Mother had always been so stubborn, and ever since Dad passed away, she wasn’t doing too well financially. She took notice of your mood, commenting on how you were doing what you did when you were nervous - chewing at your lip. You regretted last night with every fiber in your being, and yes you told your mother who Chris was - the two of you had a relationship like that. Of course your mother being blunt - she instantly commented how incredibly handsome he was, God did you know it. After she teased that your first was with a fox, you couldn’t help but laugh lightly. The moment was interrupted, as you heard a soft knock at the hospital door. You gave her hand a soft squeeze, knowing it was hard to walk away from her anymore - even if it was just to get the door. You felt your heart squeeze tightly in your chest when you saw the man who had always been on your mind at the door. He still looked the same as this morning, yet this time he was holding a small bouquet of flowers. You smiled softly, and he had no expression still
“I brought these, for you Mom.” Chris mumbled quietly, handing you the flowers.
“She’ll love them. Thank you for coming” You managed to choke the words out, and he mustve heard the unsureness in your voice.
“Well, I told you I would. So here I am.” He smiled quickly, and you finally motioned him inside.
You could tell by the look on your Mother’s face - she was going to fall in love with Chris. He walked forward in a grin you hadn’t seen since yesterday when he brought you the coffee. It broke you, knowing how badly you hurt him. You watched carefully as your Mother struggled to get up to shake his hand, and of course Chris insisted she didn’t overdo herself for him. Chris was polite, and he asked how she was doing in a gentle voice - a caring voice he would use with you.
“Oh, I’m quite fine. Then again, I didn’t spend a year in space.” Your Mother smiled softly to him, causing a small chuckle to leave his lips.
“Oh it wasn’t so bad.” Chris sighed, “You’d be surprised with how much they pampered us up there.”
“I’m sure.” Your Mother smirked, “Also not so bad that you deflowered my daughter.”
Your cheeks felt instantly hot, and you had never felt so embarrassed in your life, “Mother.”
You nearly snapped, but remembering her state she knew she’d get a pass.
You watched Chris as he couldn’t help but laugh out, and you realized just how badly you missed that laugh.
“I-..Yeah.” Chris smirked softly, “I guess I did.”
“Chris.” You repeated the tone of voice, looking to him.
“I’m not going to lie to her when we first meet.” He defended to you, and your Mother let out a wide grin. One you hadn’t seen since Dad was around.
“Im just teasing, Honey. Don’t be such a prude.” Your Mother chuckled, and coughed instantly after.
Worry hit you, knowing how much in bad shape she was. Before you could aid her, Chris beat you to it. He walked quietly in front of you, motioning to her chart.
“Do you mind if I take a look?” He questioned out, his tone genuine.
“No, please do. You’re a Doctor aren’t you?” She smiled softly, earning another grin from Beck.
He went on to talk a lot of medical terms you had heard every so often on the Spacecraft, yet he went into more detail to explain to your Mother just what she needed. It surprised you, as he sat on the edge of the bed. He was already so comfortable with her, and apparently her with him. It only made it worse. You took a deep breath, as Chris began to explained he needed to get going. You wondered if he would speak to you again, and as you saw him walking away. You couldn’t help but follow his steps out into the hospital hall.
“Beck-“ You choked out, your voice nearly cracking.
“What, you can’t use my first name?” He turned to you, and you saw the hurt once again.
“Im sorry-“ You mumbled, “I know I shouldn’t have-“
“You’re right. You shouldn’t have.” He sighed out, “Was it always just sex with you? Was I just someone to get the deed done?”
You felt the heaviness in your chest, “No, No. You weren’t”
“Then why the hell do you keep pushing me away? Because it seems to me, anytime you want to have sex. That’s the only time I can get remotely close to you.”
“Chris.” You sighed, knowing that it was all coming to the surface now.
“No. You don’t get to talk your way out of this one. I wanted to make love to you last night, as goddamn cheesy that sounds. I just wanted you. Not some quick night of sex and me leaving in the morning again.” His breathing was ragged as the words flew out, and you felt your heart nearly drop to the floor.
You had no words, but your heart sped nearly a million miles a minute.
“This is why, right here. I say that to you, and you’ve got a look of flight in your eyes.” Chris’ voice raised, and you could see the hurt now turning to annoyance.
You tried, you really did. But no one had ever said anything like that to you in your whole life. It terrified you.
You saw now the couple of nurses staring in your direction, Chris taking now taking notice - he led you quietly to the nearest closet. You took a deep breath - knowing how passionate he was, he was most definitely not done.
“Still nothing to say?” He quietly mumbled to you, crossing his arms.
You swallowed out, and the courage finally decided to rise in you, “It wasn’t. It wasn’t just sex, Chris. You say these things, and it terrifies me.”
His expression finally softened to you, knowing just how much it took for you to just say that.
“Prove it.” Chris motioned to you, and you watched he bit his lip softly.
You knitted your brow, wondering what he was getting at, “Excuse me?”
You saw it now, his lips turning in a soft grin. You returned the expression, as he locked the door behind you. You blinked wildly, as you watched him remove his shirt. You couldn’t help but laugh out, he was absolutely insane.
“Chris, this is a hospital.” You chuckled softly, as he still continued his undressing actions.
“I’m a doctor. It’s okay. Just- think of it as some grey’s anatomy shit.” He laughed softly, reaching to your jeans.
“Come on, we can’t.” You looked to the door, even though it was locked - something in you was nervous someone would walk in. He only smirked to you, slowly unbuttoning your jeans still. You contemplated it still, just happy that this meant he forgave you.
“Make it up to me, Baby.” Chris whispered softly, his lips reaching to your jaw.
“Are you guilt tripping me right now?” You snickered softly, and you couldn’t think of all the reasons why you shouldn’t do this any longer - his hips were pressed to you, and you felt already how much he wanted you. He had no shame in grinding softly to you, and it only made you grow to be puddy in his hands. Finally, you gave in. You giggled out, reaching to take off your shirt in a quick motion.
“Turn around, sweetheart.” Chris whispered out again, his hands rubbing soft circles to your skin.
You took a deep breath, knowing how much he loved taking you like this. Ever since you were on the spacecraft - this also grew to be your favorite position. You heard the fumble of his jeans behind you, and the sensation of lips nipping softly to your shoulder. You sighed out already, feeling the need growing to your heat with each touch he gave you.
“Are you going to be a good girl?” Chris mumbled softly against your skin, “Let me take care of you?”
You nodded quickly, feeling his hands cascade up your back, all the way to pull down your jeans. The air hit you, causing you to wince lightly at the coldness. His hands reached in front of you, gripping softly to your chest as a signal he was ready. You whimpered out softly, as he tugged softly to the fabric. He had only seen you completely naked once - but he was always patient with you, so he understood silently when you didnt take your bra off. His hands fell to your waist, and you could feel him beginning to position himself.
“Chris” You moaned out softly, trying to tell him how badly you needed it.
“Are you gonna let the Doctor take care of you, Babe?” He chuckled softly, taking amusement in you now.
You gripped the shelf in front of you, and you had no control of your body pushing back to him, “Yes.”
That was all he needed it seemed, and you felt him push gently to you. Your head flew up, the fullness was something you still weren’t exactly used to. You heard a soft groan of relief behind you, and his hands pulled your chest upwards. You breathed out, your back now pressed to his chest by his actions. You had time to adjust as always, and he began to move slowly - causing your eyes to flutter close.
“Chris.” You choked out, knowing how much he loved to hear you.
His hips rolled in a steady pace, now picking up you felt his body move the both of you forward. Your hand found the side of his waist, the other jolting to the shelf for balance - he followed his hand gripping for leverage before you. His pace quickened, and you felt like you could hardly breathe at the angle he was hitting you. He pushed forward again, your stomach now pressed to the shelf before you in harsh motions. You fumbled slightly at his actions, and you could tell he was getting to the point of having no control of his hips. You groaned out again, feeling the tight coil pressurizing in your stomach. Chris breath fanned against you, and you couldn’t help but let your head fall back to his shoulder. Out of rhythm now, it was his signal that he was close to his finish before you were.
“It’s okay” You choked out, assuring him you’d follow behind.
“Not before you.” Chris gruffed out, his hand now snaking to your waist.
He waited a moment to position himself once more, and once he gained his leverage - his finger began to rub soft circles to your sensitive spot. You cried out uncontrollably, and you saw your knuckles grow white in the grasp in front of you. Chris reached out, his fingers intertwining now at the tight hold you had at the shelf. It finally hit you, your breath hitching out loudly. Your back arched out, Chris following to you within seconds of your orgasm. You heard his strangled groan of relief from holding back for you vibrate at your ear - the both of you now breathing out in tandem. He waited a moment for you to recollect yourself before he left you, his hands caressed softly - as if he was calming your body from the intense finish you endured.
“Are you alright?” Chris breathed out, his lips pressing softly to your shoulder once again.
“Yes.” You grinned widely, your head falling forward in bliss, “i’m sorry.”
You heard a soft chuckle, as he pressed his lips now to your ear, “You’re forgiven.”
The shower water pounded to the surface, and knowing Chris was just outside in your living room - you had a moment where your grin almost felt stupid. You shook your head, taking a deep breath you reminded yourself it was okay. It was okay to open yourself to him, he was safe. You told him it would just be a few moments, the two of you had left the hospital quickly in fear someone might’ve heard you. You never thought that you would be in this now - bit by bit you were opening up, showing Chris pieces of you that no one else had seen. Not even your Mother. You bit your lip, knowing that it would still take a lot of time before you could truly feel at ease at the thought of your walls coming completely down.
“Hey, mind if we save on water?”
You nearly yelped, Chris’ voice now behind you. You covered your chest instantly, wondering just how long he’d been there. You heard a soft laugh as you retreated to the shower wall.
“Come on, I’ve seen you pretty much all the way naked.” Chris laughed again, his hands encasing at your shoulders.
“Yeah but not…all of me.” You laughed nervously, turning to him you already felt your cheeks grow hot.
No matter how many times you had sex - you still managed to feel like a schoolgirl at the sight of him naked.
“I find it incredibly adorable-“ Chris grinned, “That you still blush at seeing my dick.”
“I do not.” You nearly yelled in defense.
“You do.” He raised his brow in amusement.
You turned away, hoping he wouldn’t see how true he was.
“Do not.” You mumbled out, the shower now becoming a more enclosed space than you remember.
“Alright, then look at it.” Chris snickered behind you, and you turned in spite of what he thought.
You kept your eye to his as long as you could, and he grinned to you in a teasing motion. You bit your lip, taking a quick glance to him. You felt the redness at your cheeks, and you hated yourself for it.
“Told you.” He teased, poking at your stomach.
“Shut up, Beck.” You laughed nervously, your arms still pressed to your chest.
“Its okay, you know. Trust me, I like them.” Chris now looked to you in genuine assurance.
You swallowed, knowing he was talking about him seeing all of you once again. You took a deep breath, God there was no turning back now. Chris mustve seen the look of consent in your eyes, as his hands moved softly to your wrists. You could feel the hitch of breathing in your chest, as he pulled your arms away slowly. You bit your lip, wondering what he was thinking. Knowing this was only the second time he’d seen you completely naked.
“Amazing.” He whispered in a grin, and he pulled you to him gently.
He wrapped his hands around you, one a the small of your back - the other wrapped within the wet strands of your hair.
“So, I’m thinking I should ask again. When are you going to let me take you to dinner - since we’ve already broken the third date rule.” Chris chuckled softly to your hair.
“Fine.” You mockingly looked up to him, earning a wide grin from him.
“Good.” He teased back, pressing his lips to you softly.
so we start with an introduction where we talk about how black culture was losing its flavour after the 70s, progress was slowed down n all as we reached 2000 but dont be fooled, its all cause of a buncha events orchastred by "the man"... a big racist mf ig whos also the kkk equivalent of the team rocket boss, sitting in a ig chair, never see his face in the flashbacks or like the bad guy in inspector gadget, more like him ig since we actually see the team R boss face quite often nonetheless, theres a form of mystery folding this whole business... THE MAN acts in the shadows and he hates to see how dark those are, he wants things to be like it used to be back in slavery times good oltime for him but.. not for the fam
Tumblr media
ofc then here is introduced THE REAL MAN OF MEN => undercover brother, our hero and damn he has the style of a whole pack of elephants trampling around in pink disco suits every ladies wanna a piece of that sweet fro he is packing up on his head, funky
Tumblr media
ngl, the whole way this mov is filmed n edited is sike asf, dope guys especially considerin its actually made in 2002, loving it anyway then were also introduced to the other secondary protags who are from an organisation here to stop The Mans evil doings and careful: undercover bro was actually a solo act until now cause now they gonna collaborate all throughout da mov: its the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D, with conspiracy brother (tbh a fav here, guys wack like the whole plot guy thinks computer comes from a story involving peanut and idk guys he keeps rambling bout bs which makes him a+ character) smart brother, chief and sister girl (original name/10)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so btw the organization is on a mission rn at the beginning to destroy The Man (lets call him tm for the rest of this rev) financial infrastructure aka funds to stop him better or smthg and it gets spicy as they get caught but ofc undercover bro barges in from nowhere wow big disguise as an old man no one noticed him so like slash bawow boom vlam, bad guys ko and he squeedaddle out of there like twas breeze gg man, he also get fed a nice editing of xrays battle like with a side of kungfu n whatnot, undercover bro knows his stuff
Tumblr media
nice sounds effects ah yes btw romantic intrigue with sister girl begins here, its the zinc of the flinch as ub (undercover brother) notices her big wink wink nudge nudge, btw later she is asked to go enlist him in the corps so he can help stop the man with them n shit and he trynna get her in his bed cause thats we this brother is used to, getting laid as soon as he meets a chick, who can resist this dude?
Tumblr media
he gots moves, fro, style, skills and also at times he is a pussy but k, not everyones perf sometimes you just simp for a white blond blue eyed woman (spoiler) and crawls on all four looking like a big preppy nerd btw in this review im trynna not spoil the whole plot cause guys, this movie gotta be on yo watch list kay? im not here to ruin this experience in yo life itd be pretty uncool of me so im just gonna state the big lines then its up to you to swoop the tiny ones out of the watch, knot your own breds n stuff
back on the whooper slapping: intro credits roll, we get some nice back story for our hero, making sure we can understand his cause in saving the black peeps from TMs assholery might truth n justice be your guide
so what the big plot then? well yknow how a big antag cant do shit on his own cause hes too busy sticking brooms up his ass in his private quarters? yea well same goes here so there this gay guy who will be twerking later on btw, a scene to behold, rumps to ogle at, so hes a bad guy and gay n gonna do most of the dirty work for TM, whats new? idk what to think of it yknow its a stereotype in movs so ig ok still uncool but ill see it as all in good spirit cause theres bad n good im not excepting this to be the best watch of my life, nah it wasnt either, but i had a good laugh kay? makes up for it cause unlike some here i got no shit up my ass alley its clean scrubbed up n down so i can smoothly take a chillax up n a shit out without a night tormented by constipation, nah its all sliding where it should no pain no sweat
Tumblr media
so the big lines is that a war hero whos a black man is gonna become president and wtf no is the only react racist mf could have which is what they have, bad guys gonna stop it from happening at once and the brotherhood aint letting it happens cause obvs something is wrong as every black peeps gonna turn into a stereotype like waddup in this mad world? its all because of the poisonous fried chicken brand TM will get around ty to another poison to make our war hero delusional n so on were also introduced to white evil she-ra later btw, just dropping this in cause undercover brother really wants to make oreos with her n sister girl (his words) ig shes the second love interest, im not too invested in this romantic intrigue it was just necessary not like twas very developped anyway its even more of a bedroom intrigue when it comes the the white blue eyed blond chick, sister girl before hoes yo
Tumblr media
whats it in conclusion about this movie? first, the plot: hilarious biznasty worthy a+ bs especially how its turned yknow, the clichés were turned upside down n if not theyre just turned into a big satire of themselves editing + music ? yknow its actually good, and funky asf im digging it, a travel in time nostalgia of times i lived acting is pretty neat its not an ironically good movie cause its hilariously ridiculous in the making way its all about the plot here, plot twists and characters, the whole universe ig like its superior to big mamma sorta plot or maybe im dropping this comparison cause its been a while since i saw big maam, for sure twas under estimated while over brought when this here? it got freshness packed in
the spoiling was light and this is cause this movie got a 69/10 rating jk 8/10 if were gonna be serious, im gonna list wats unwoke n uncool here: 1 gay villain stereot, gotta be honest here its not that big of a deal tme seeing when it was made and how i still laughed yknow idc this much but some could go apeshit over it 2 not enough conspiracy brother content: this is all i ask for 3 had no snacks while watching the movie, too bad id dig a aj or grape soda right about now n then 4 more lines for car wash chicks jk this last one idc about, but car wash representation is lacking once again in american movies, i cant believe how looked over it is, as if they didnt need smore rep in the medias its not an easy job washing car all day long, standin in those ghost buster lookin suit while staring at the hot guys in hot wheelys, whos gonna pay you a drink when youre just an old carwash lady? thought finally a hero would step up in this movie but there it goes thrown out da window, the potential was real until it got blown away sure sister girl was a solid character but give the washers some credits cut them a slack of free time n have a lil date together there on top of a truck to keep it native
nonetheless this is a top rec for anyone who feels like slipping into some conspiracy slippers
tg, out
The Fear of the Dragonwitch (Triplets Rolorem AU) Chapter 2!!!
Word Count: 2738
TW: Remus, vague mentions of deceit, swearing, arguing, anxiety, self deprecation, that’s it I think, lmk if I missed anything!!!
Notes: Ok so we have a second chapter!!! First chapter here! I have a whole plot line planned out for this fic y’all don’t understand. This chapter is just family dynamics, but next chapter should have more interaction with the other characters. Hopefully I get to a bit of Logan centric things soon but who knows, I certainly don’t! I hope you like it, I really do!
Pairings: Vivian x Mimi (OCxOC), pining demus possibly more in the future!
Summary: “wait you can sing?” roman was just trying to tell his family about this lifechanging event, and no one is taking his concerns seriously! though, maybe a bit of confidence and encouragement from the right people might sooth his anxieties enough for him to actually be excited instead of dreading what was going to happen tomorrow.
“wait you can sing?”
While it was an expected outcome, Roman was in fact rather upset at how quickly his brother had brushed off the important part of his confession. yes, in fact, he can sing but that’s not the point! The point was that he was now being thrown headfirst into a leading role in a musical in front of way more people than he was comfortable with and he was expected to sing and dance as well? While he was catastrophizing Logan pulled up to the curb, stopping to let them get in the car. Unfortunately, while Roman was ready to just drop it and move on, Remus had other plans. As they strapped into the car Remus kept running his mouth.
“seriously though, I've literally never heard you sing how can you be lead role worthy when you’ve never sung in your life? I mean like congrats I guess but like, I dunno if your teachers all that-”
“Remus if I had brought this up so you could tell me how unqualified and bad I was in general I would have asked this morning. I mentioned it because I'm terrified of doing any of this and I can’t let down my teacher. Yes, I can sing, I do it often you just never pay attention to anything in the world other than your stupid bubble. I should have known better than to talk to you about this, of course this is how you'd respond.”
“what's this about?”
Oh yeah, Logan was there too. Well he should probably know too-
“Roman randomly sung in his drama class and got chosen to play the leading role in the schools musical for this quarter.”
Well then. Guess he didn’t need to explain himself. He turned around in his seat, giving a look of ‘what the fuck???’ towards Remus before settling again, ready to be interrogated. However, Logan simply smiled.
“so, your friends absolutely hate you for singing huh?”
“no… shut up!!!”
“hey, congrats ro. You deserve it.”
“no??? no I don’t???? Logan you don’t understand I didn’t even audition!!! He just gave me the part!!! Like firstly that’s unfair to the rest of the kids who actually want parts, and secondly, I don’t want the part?????? This isn’t a ‘congrats!’ occasion!!! This is an ‘oh shit you just got roped into complete life ruining changes because you're an anxious mess who is too afraid to disappoint your teacher’!!!”
“one is easy, the auditions were last week. He already heard all the other options and decided you were the best. You should feel good about that Ro. Two, also simple. I know how much of your free time you spend wishing you could be the one on stage, I see you humming and swaying around the house restraining yourself, you want to do this, you're just scared.”
“…”
“third, change isn’t going to ruin your life. he's not changing your classes, he's not taking you off the tech crew, not much is actually changing. You're using your teacher as extra justification to do something you’ve been dreaming of. You’ve let your anxiety blind you from knowing what you really want. You can’t let it control every aspect of your life.”
“… stop being ‘wise beyond your years’ with me its uncalled for and I'm feeling attacked.”
“listen what do you want from me, I have the knowledge what else am I supposed to do with it at this point?”
“stupid jerk prodigy brother… you stole all the brains from us I can promise.”
“I was by far the smallest of us, I did not absorb your brains.”
“pics or it didn’t happen.”
“insufferable”
 As soon as they were home things flipped on their head. Remus had a call and suddenly he was having a breakdown. He wouldn’t even tell anyone what had happened he was just pacing back and forth with wide eyes filled with tears. He was half delirious and Logan was trying and failing to reason with him.
Re, you're walking a hole in the floor you need to calm down. I know you're having an anxiety attack but-”
“IM NOT HAVING AN ANXIETY ATTACK!!!”
“Remus stop yelling-”
“NO, YOU SHUT UP!!! IM NOT ROMAN I DON’T HAVE ANXIETY IM NOT EVEN STRESSED SEE I AM FINE JUST LEAVE ME BE!!! YOU HAVE THE WRONG BROTHER”
Roman and Logan sat in stunned silence as Remus ran off to his room. Roman gave Logan a look and Logan straightened his back and shook his head trying to be composed, though his steadily shaking hands sold him out. He turned away from where Remus had previously been standing and looked back at Roman, moving his offending hands behind his back.
“well it seems like he refuses to be reasoned with. I suppose we have to wait for mother to get home to fix whatever is bothering him.”
“its not your fault lo.”
“… yes. I- of course I know that why would you think I thought otherwise. It was clearly whatever stressor acting on him and not my involvement. I know that. Of course. It’s the only logical conclusion.”
And almost right after their mom walked in the door. She held a large satchel thrown crossbody and her hair was slicked back held in place with a little hairspray and a bunch of bobby pins. It was styled in a neat bun with her bangs framing her face perfectly. She had small black glasses and little silver earrings and had a simple matte red lipstick perfectly in place. She was wearing a light blue button up shirt and a black blazer with matching dress pants and flats. She looked perfectly put together as she tossed off her shoes and threw her bag onto the couch. She smiled at her kids and finally let herself slouch and look a little more like the mess she felt like.
“hi kids, how was school today?”
Roman shot a look at Logan before answering.
“well, um there was a lot, and though I want to tell you, Remus had a meltdown and we need help to get him back. Logan tried but he wouldn’t listen.”
“oh, geez ok um, Lo could you please grab my computer from my car? I have to finish something up later, and Ro could you pop the clam chowder on the stove? It was gonna go with dinner, but I know how much Rem loves it. Besides there should be plenty of the French mac that Mimi makes to feed us tonight. I’ll go work things out with him.”
 “hey kiddo? Can I come in?”
Vivian Royale had a knack for pulling her kids out of their heads enough to actually fix problems, but her son Remus was usually rather self sufficient in that regard, while Logan and Roman both had anxiety and Roman had the rest stacked on top, Remus was rather neurotypical and usually had less issues that required her intervention. That was, until high school hit. His mental health took a rapid hit as soon as he had started high school, and no one quite knew what happened. She knocked on his door, waiting for his answer before stepping in.
“hey bud. What's wrong? I heard you had a bit of an outburst. Can you tell me what happened?”
Remus sat on his bed, a green octopus comforter laid on the bed and his Cthulhu plushie was in his grip. He hid his face in the toy as he mumbled something into it.
“Hun I'm gonna need you to speak up ok? We can’t fix anything if I don’t know what's wrong.”
“it’s dumb.”
“obviously its not to you. If it was it wouldn’t have affected you enough to cause you to yell at your brothers.”
“… I just- it’s so dumb I don’t wanna say it!”
“you're safe here Rem.”
“my friend got asked out by this lame dude in our class. And- and I think I have a crush on him. My friend I mean! And- and I don’t know what I'm supposed to do, I can’t tell him, what if he hates me? I just. I don’t know how to feel I just know it sucks.”
Vivian set a gentle hand on her sons’ shoulder and gave him a soft smile. She took his hand and gave it a squeeze.
“I understand Rem. That’s sort of how it felt when I realized I liked Mimi. I've known Mimi since we were kids and it wasn’t until after me and your dad broke up that I realized that I loved her. We were in our twenties and I had three newborns and my best friend jumped headfirst into that without hesitation. Is he actually going on the date?”
“no. he's not his type, I guess. That’s what he said at least.”
“then ask him out! He's not interested in them, and he called you to tell you. You obviously matter to each other, even if he doesn’t like you back, I don’t think it would change anything. Just go for it, what's the worst that could happen?”
“…you're right. I-I guess I’ll talk to him later.”
“atta boy!!! Now come on, Roman has clam chowder on the burner and Mimi should be home soon!”
 The four of them sat down at the dining table eating and Logan and Remus recounted their day to their mom, Roman staying quiet for the time being, only wanting to say his announcement once. It was 15 minutes before Mimi got home in her fancy outfit. Her red hair was everywhere, curled and messy and absolutely her. She wore a black dress that had a cat head shape on it, with a pink bow at her waist and where the cats head didn’t cover was a see-through mesh. She had a light pink tank top under it and had a pink and white jacket about 2 sizes too big for her on around her shoulders. Her shoes were shiny pink stilettos that made a pretty click clack noise as she walked. She held a pretty black purse and she had little unicorn earrings that looked adorable with her pink lipstick and black to pink cat eye. She set her bag down on the table next to the door and slipped out of her shoes neatly setting them next to the door before slipping over to the table where everyone was sitting. She ruffled Roman and Remus’ hair before giving a big smile to them all.
“how are my boys doin? I see Viv pulled out the chowder, I hope everything is good!”
“I'm really gay!”
“me too Hun, what's new?”
They all let out a fit of giggles. Mimi went to serve herself a bowl of soup and Logan and Remus repeated their day back to her. When they had finished and Roman still hadn’t spoken, she leaned on her arm with a gentle smile and encouraged him to speak. He nodded and cleared his throat.
“um… it was pretty average all around, but this morning Mr. Sanders heard me singing and um, well he uh,”
Logan gave his hand a small squeeze from under the table. He swallowed and finally finished.
“he cast me as the lead in our coming musical.”
Mimi and his mom stopped mid bite of soup, staring at him intently and he wanted to melt through the floor. They swallowed their mouthfuls and looked at each other before turning back to him with wide smiles. Suddenly Logan and Roman clasped their hands over their ears as the two started squealing at the top of their lungs, Mimi jumping out of her seat, jumping up and down. when they finally stopped screaming, Mimi was still bouncing and had Vivian’s hand in hers.
“oh my god Roman!!! Our baby boy oh I'm so so proud of you!!!!!”
“Roman sweetheart, that’s incredible!!! Wait, but weren’t auditions last week?”
“yeah, um, he just had me sing and dance again and he gave me the part.”
“Roman that’s incredible!!!!!!!!! Oh, I knew it!!! Didn’t I tell you Vivi? Didn’t I tell you that Ro was gonna be an incredible performer? I remember, I remember when I first saw him when he was an itty-bitty peanut that I told you he was gonna be a star in the showbiz!!! Oh, he's our little star oh I'm so proud!!!!!!”
“yes, babe I remember, calm down you are going to make him explode! Roman I really am so proud of you honey.”
“oh, oh oh!!! Roman you should sing for us!!! You always stop singing whenever either of us enter the room, I want to hear you sing!!! If you're ok of course, no pressure”
Roman’s face was the shade of an apple. His stepmom was always over the top with support, but this was more than he expected. He was about to nod when he heard Logan make a confused noise.
“am I really the only person who has heard him sing? He never stops singing its like his default mode! He's always making music whether through his fidgets or humming or singing, I don’t know how you guys have missed it!”
“I mean, I do my best to keep people from hearing me but you're sorta the exception. You're calm and you won’t like, smother me.”
“… well then. I also vote for a song.”
“hold on, lets get dinner ready first and then we can fully focus on him”
 They had sat down with their plates and Roman was playing with his ring to keep him calm as 4 pairs of eyes stared at him waiting to hear him sing. Logan gave him a small smile and that was enough to help him start.
As the smile fell from your face, I fell with it Our faces blue There's a heart stain on the carpet I left it, I left it with you Yeah, the truth is that I'm sorry Though I told you not to worry I'm just some dumb kid Trying to kid myself That I got my shit together So go, get to runnin', won't you hurry? While it's light out, while it's early Before I start to miss any part of this And change my mind, whatever
Logan’s smile widened as he recognized the song. Remus mom and Mimi sat still, with looks of… awe? He was too nervous to analyze their expressions while he was singing. He continued on.
I say I wanna settle down Build your hopes up like a tower I'm giving you the run around I'm just a lost boy Not ready to be found Not ready to be found I'm just a lost boy Not ready to be found
He let his eyes close and his body sway to the song playing along in his head. He didn’t see the looks his moms gave each other, he didn’t see Remus shove Logan with a jealous look screaming that he was bitter he hadn’t heard him sooner. He was absorbed in the song.
I don't care much for locks on the window To keep me at bay I'll leave you one last kiss on your pillow Before I fly away Yeah we knew from the beginning That this wasn't never ending Shouldn't stay too long Cause we're both too young To give into forever
So what are you waiting for? Cause someone could love you more I'm just a lost boy, lost boy So what are you waiting for? Cause someone could love you more I'm just a lost boy, lost boy So what are you waiting for? Cause someone could love you more I'm just a lost boy, lost boy So what are you waiting for? Cause someone could love you more I'm just a lost boy, lost boy
Roman quickly finished the song and hesitantly opened his eyes. The amazed faces that they all had completely floored him. Mimi got out of her seat and surrounded him in a hug, which was objectively adorable due to her barely reaching his collarbone. Remus had an odd look on his face with a mixture of awe and curiosity. Mom sat with a wide grin on her face that matched Logan’s. He felt happy and at ease and calm. And he felt much better about his new part in the musical seeing his family filled with some interesting type of pride.
Charlie 5
“Ladies and Gentlemen! Ruffians and thieves from across the galaxy! Welcome, one and all, to the renowned fighting pits of the Hub!” The roar of the announcer bounced several times off of the surrounding rock, but the echoes were quickly squashed by the cacophony of hundreds of responding voices. The announcer held up all four of his arms to quiet the crowd from his position in the announcer’s box, his figure repeated by the massive screens which floated and circled the massive ceiling of the arena, projected by hovering transmit-a-bots.
With the noise of the many excited members of various species quieted down, his booming voice continued, “What an exciting lineup for the bouts today, with creatures and monsters from hundreds of worlds, all ready and rearing for a fight against our champions of the arena! Place your final bets, for now the fights shall begin! Send out the main event!”
Again, the arena erupted into roars, claps, and screeches as the many stands packed to the rafters all emphatically replied, many motioning for the betting girls to tally their last minute bets as they referenced their combi-pads. But all took note as a gate at the far end of the arena floor opened, and the seats shook in response to the pounding of heavy feet as a humongous bellow reverberated into the very core of everyone present. A huge, lizard-like monster thundered its way into the arena, and after an overawed moment of silence, the arena again erupted into frenzied applause. The thick scales were scored in places by fresh scars, and several drops of blood from the freshest of gashes, which glinted in the light cast down by the floodlights above. It roared again in challenge as another gate opened on the far side.
The green-uniformed and cat-like officer immediately found the grungy tavern he had just stepped into to be quite disgusting. The crackling and barely working lights could only hide so much of the grime and dirt which festooned every surface. His sensitive nose sniffed the air, and he could immediately tell that it had been a while since an inspector had visited the kitchens too, given the stench of mold and decay that wafted from that area. He was glad that his only need for being in here was sitting at the bar, slumped and nursing a glass of unknown but probably very alcoholic liquid.
Slipping delicately into the stained seat next to the dejected figure, he motioned away the tired-looking waitress, who pursed her purple lips disapprovingly and continued on to attend the few others in the room. The officer’s ears seemed to scan the room like twitchy radar dishes as his yellow eyes focused on the human seated next to him, inspecting the orange jumpsuit which had obviously long been in need of a wash. In a smooth voice the officer said, “You haven’t been taking care of yourself, James.”
Slowly looking up from the drink clutched in both hands, James looked up with bloodshot eyes over an unkempt beard at the officer beside him. Suppressing a belch, the miner replied as he looked back to his drink again, “Colonel Eahn, what bruh... brings a Colonel of the Vlexeene Guard to these parts?”
The Colonel’s eyes narrowed, but they betrayed pity in their yellow depths, “You do, James. Princess Saevi was heartbroken when she received news about Charlie, but she was even more heartbroken when you refused her calls. It’s not good form to keep a princess on hold, you know.”
James took another swig from his glass, and mumbled under his breath, which the sharp ears of the Colonel heard him utter, “Didn’t feel like talking.” The Colonel continued, “His Majesty called for a damn day of mourning for that big lug and you. When you didn’t show up for the proceedings, the Princess didn’t come out of her room for two days. The Queen Mother, the stars bless her, fretting about and suddenly being snappish to the servants. We are all worried about you, James. Your many friends are too, if your inbox messages are anything to go by.”
James, jolted as if by an electric shock, turned sharply to look at Colonel Eahn, though his eyes were unfocused and bleary, “How’d’you get in my mail, you nosy prick?” The Vlexeene merely smirked, ignoring the insult as he twirled a finger in his moustache. “Call it a friend’s prerogative, that and I had to track you down somehow. The king was breathing down my neckfur to find you, so I had my IT division hack into your accounts. That doesn’t matter though, what does matter is I have some news you need to hear, and we need you sober, come along now.” Throwing a few credits onto the counter, the Vlexeene grabbed the miner’s dirty jumpsuit and hauled him up from his seat, almost reeling at the heavy smell of sweat and cheap alcohol. James put up a bit of resistance, but the senior guardsman cuffed him a bit and sent him stumbling out the door. For the few patrons inside, most of which had been watching the two with interest, with their entertainment now gone were left to continuing their murmured conversations between themselves as the lights above crackled.
Outside in the comparatively bright sunlight, two more Vlexeene guardsmen flanked a jumpcar parked near the door, their uniform and chest insignia showing them to be of a junior rank. Both came to attention as the two exited, and both also wrinkled their sensitive noses in disgust at what the Colonel had brought out. He motioned to them for help, and James was quickly settled into the backseat in a drunken stupor. They found their own places in the car as the pilot Vlexeene punched in a set of coordinates. Once the air controls had been set to vent the overpowering stench, the jumpcar shot into the air almost vertically before joining the teeming mass of other air traffic. They headed towards the far side of the city, where a sea of large freighters and other ships were moored in their respective dockings. As they closed the distance, they could see that many of the ships swarmed with activity as goods and passengers were transported on and off, and dock workers worked in an orderly chaos, looked over by their foremans shouting out orders, or reprimands for those trying to get a lazy moment in.
The Vlexeene jumpcar set down in a quieter docking port where a brown, battered mining freighter sat moored. The colonel exited the jumpcar while the two junior guardsmen dragged the semi-unconscious figure of James out of the backseat. The four then proceeded to the ship, entering through a port which opened when the Colonel put his clawed paw up against the hand scanner to the right of the airlock door.
Through the bowels of the ship, the Vlexeene maneuvered their drunken cargo until they reached the spartan crew quarters, which at that moment was uncharacteristically strewn with dirty laundry and empty bottles. The two guardsmen set the miner down on the bed, and were glad to leave the smelly room and their charge when the Colonel motioned them away. He made sure James was comfortable, and then headed towards the cockpit, in part to get some coffee and wait for his friend to wake as much as to get away from the smell.
Several hours passed before James finally woke to the beautiful smell of coffee nearby, as well as a severe pounding in his head like he was using his old jackhammer on his own skull. Moaning in pain, he sat up from his bed. Getting up was just as painful, but he pushed past it and turned toward the head, his feet sending bottles careening. He was startled by a familiar voice which stated, “When you’re done in there, I got some proper victuals for you.” James swiveled unsteadily to see the green-clad Eahn sipping coffee as he leaned on the doorway to the cockpit, his eyes glinting with humor. The grizzled miner grumbled and continued on to his much-needed destination.
His head still pounding, James returned to the crew quarters, where the Colonel was waiting at the fold-out table. A steaming plate made from a carb-heavy food pack and a cup of coffee waited in the empty spot opposite the officer. James sat down and dug in hungrily, not looking at the Colonel at all, who continued to sip at his own cup. After a minute, the Colonel piped up to break the silence, “You know, you have to tell me where you supply your coffee. Since you humans introduced us to it, I’ve developed quite a taste, but we get the worst brew at HQ; it tastes terrible. This stuff is quite nice.” James continued to scarf the food down instead of answering, and the Colonel could only look on in pity. The man he had met during the festivities at the return of Princess Saevi to his grateful people was bright and cheery, always flanked by his gargantuan friend. They had developed a friendship when they had worked together on several mutual operations. The person now in front of him seemed but a broken shell in comparison.
He shook his head, and continued, “Look, I’m here on more than just royal business, my friend. I’m also here because of an investigation I’ve been looking into recently. To put it succinctly, it’s about Charlie.”
James slammed his spoon down on the table with a clatter, and stood up abruptly, startling the Colonel. Reaching out a paw, Eahn tried to object, “James, please don’t-” James grunted out as he stomped to the cockpit door, “He’s gone. Don’t you be darin’ to bring ‘im up. Thanks for the food, now get goin’.” As he put his hand on the door frame, the miner heard his furry friend quietly say, “I think he’s alive.”
James rounded on the Colonel, almost screaming at the top of his lungs with tears streaming down from already red-rimmed eyes, “I WATCHED HIM DIE, YOU FUR-FACED BASTARD! THEY KILLED ‘IM RIGHT IN FRONT O’ ME! HE AIN’T EVER COMIN’ BACK!” His shoulders slumped down as his head hung low from his expended fury. Colonel Eahn saw frustration, anger, and grief in his human friend’s eyes that he knew went deep, and he hoped to all in the heavens that he wasn’t wrong about what he had discovered. He shook his head again and stubbornly continued, “I think you saw a show, James. A horrid show, but only a show. Please, sit down and let me explain.”
He could see James shaking, trying to control an indeterminate rage. After several moments, the miner slowly made his way back to his seat across from the Colonel, his hands clenching and unclenching as he stared intently at the table. The Colonel nodded and cleared his throat. “Several days after we heard about… about it, I looked into the company. With all my years as a guardsman, I could tell that nothing about it’s operations seemed legitimate. I had my men look into the Adrax Laboratory, for one, and it seems they never received a Tilluxian for study.”
James’ intent stare swiftly switched to look right into the yellow eyes of the officer, who returned the stare as he continued on, “Leads dried up quickly after that. One of the doctors I thought might help and his family completely disappeared. I got the sense that someone found out about our little investigation and began to clean up. Several weeks passed with nothing. However, I was getting reports from Red Division, our intergalactic piracy task force? They were hearing about a brand new attraction in the Hub pits. Those blighters are always looking for something new for their short attention spans, and a few months ago they seemed to have found something big. From what our informants have been telling us, it’s a recently acquired Tilluxian Dragon.”
James now had the chance to narrow his eyes at the Colonel. “I knew that desk job was gonna set that mind to jelly, you fat, furry idjit. That could be any Tilluxian.” The Colonel straightened the front of his jacket as he scowled across the table. “I know you’re hurting right now James, but less of your insults would be appreciated. Now I am fully aware that Charlie isn’t the only Tilluxian Dragon in the universe, but there is a connection. The Vice President of Operations of Southtech, Crassus Jaul - who I believe you’ve had the displeasure of meeting - has reportedly been in contact with Takrex. The Lord Takrex. We’ve been trying to pin down that elusive Narx Rat for years. Financial records we obtained also seem to show a substantial sum going into Jaul’s personal accounts through various shell corporations around the time of Charlie’s execution. It took us three months just to discover that convoluted combi-trail, let me tell you, but we are sure it must be a payments from Takrex.”
The ears of the Colonel twitched in annoyance at the sound of more bottles sent scattering as James stood up abruptly and began to pace across the decking. Eahn could see that James’s mind was racing. His grief and anger had now been replaced by confusion, and for the first time in several months of guilt and helplessness, there was an inkling of hope. James then stopped abruptly as if stopped in thought, and again Eahn was startled when James careened towards the cockpit door in a flurry.
Before Eahn had fully gotten out of his seat, cursing when he nearly spilled the hot coffee down his impeccable front, James had returned to the common area with a combi-pad in hand. “Here! Here it is! This has to be important! Surely you can figure it out, you and your smartypants IT folks.” Eahn stood rather dumbly in response, hesitantly taking the combi-pad that James had been waving in his direction. Confusedly, he said, “Have what, James? What is on here?” The Colonel noticed the screen was covered in oil streaks from lots of use, and several parts were rather stained with questionable food or drink stains.
“Well, I got a head on my shoulders Colonel, I made a copy of all the documents those bastards sent me when I was doin’ their dirty work for ‘em. I can’t make heads or tails of all the accoutin’ stuff, but I know enough that a few things seem out o’ place in the inventories and order receipts for the Vashas, for instance. I just can’t put my finger on the rest of it.”
Eahn gingerly wiped the very dirty screen with his sleeve before opening several documents already cued up. Inventories, accounting records of several outstanding accounts, order receipts, mining survey reports, and a host of other records flashed by in a whir before Eahn had a chance to sit down and begin to translate the mess. He soon noticed issues with the breakdown reports of the mining equipment used by the Vashas, and the portfolio of the Yallarian colony just didn’t add up in his head. Looking up from the reports, he saw that James had seated himself on the edge of his bunk, leaning forward in anticipation and eyes that bored into the yellow slitted pools of the Colonel once he had looked up.
“Well James, I certainly agree that something is wrong with these operations, and these aren’t the only ones I’ve seen to be similarly ‘fishy,’ as you humans are apt to say. I’ll send these on to some agents of ours in the Guard, they might have some luck at deciphering this convoluted mess, but with any luck this might help us. In the meantime, whether or not it is our mutual friend, I believe we have a big lizard to save.”
James’ taciturn face, which had seemingly been stuck on that setting for months now, finally broke out in a wide smile.
He had done this sort of thing one or two times before, but he could never consider the earpiece to be comfortable. It was designed with Vlexeene ears in mind, so it didn’t quite fit right in his own human ear canal, where every step would send a dull and uncomfortable jab of plastee to remind him of its presence. However, the adrenaline coursing through his veins and the excitement of the situation were helping him ignore the discomfort. In front of James was the captain of a smuggling ship the Guard had tracked down but not arrested yet for the express purpose of this mission. Given that the fledgling operation had been relatively easy to uncover, and that the Lou-Maxi captain of the crew wasn’t the brightest star in the night sky made it so he wasn’t a high priority in the first place, and the perfect pawn to help get James into the Hub.
The miner smiled to himself as he saw Captain Choep eye him appraisingly up and down in a lopsided attempt at being intimidating, but his fleshy and iridescent cheek bags giving him a dumb bloodhound sort of look ruined the attempt at the outset. Instead of the usual orange jumpsuit, James had been outfitted with a faux-leather bomber jacket and dark cargo pants that he thought was ripped right from a certain Harrison Ford character. He was sure that this wrinkled imbecile wasn’t a fan of ancient Terran films though, who might otherwise blow the cover of this copyright-infringing smuggler’s costume.
The cheek bags didn’t help the squat captain add any intimidating qualities to his speech either, which was predominantly overshadowed by the amount of spittle that sprayed dangerously close with each grating word spoken. Fortunately for James, the translator box on his shoulder-strap didn’t have a salivary gland, as it worked the words into common. “Stho, you tbhink you’re wortbhy of my crew, eh? What can a human offer in muscle tbhat my Gruat can’t? What could any human oftfer to a crew, eh? Eh?” He warbled out a chuckle that was shared by the other crew on his ship, including the bulky Gruat in question. James crossed his arms and looked contemptuously back, drawling out, “Heh, I could go toe to toe with ‘im. But I ain’t here to fight so much as get you in on the ore tradin,’ which is what you’re lookin’ for in the first place, right? Least, that’s what my sources said. But if you don’t need my extensive knowledge on the inside track on the market from here to the Vega cluster, that’s on you. I got other folks that’d appreciate the leg up.” He turned to leave the gangway but was stopped short - as planned - when he heard the almost desperate plea of the captain behind him, “Waitbh! Maybe… maybe we can use you. Justh waibth a moment.”
James slowly turned back, an eyebrow raised quizzically. He could see the captain’s gears turning sluggishly inside an unimaginative brain. James looked about the rest of the crew, their eyes either on their captain in anticipation, or on him in undisguised suspicion. The Gruat was certainly eyeing him up, probably assessing his fighting prowess as only a former gladiator could, the varied scars about his body giving away the possibility. The large alien shrugged contemptuously and crossed both pairs of arms before looking towards the captain. James merely smiled inside, it’s only unlucky or stupid fighters that have so many scars, and even being in his more golden years James believed he could give this hulking muscle the run-around.
However, chief among the crew which caught James’ eye was an arthropod-like species from one of the darker parts of the galaxy, and underneath the flak armor was a jet black chitinous hide ending in at least eight jointed appendages, though one of which was missing from some battle. The compound eyes situated on the skull seemed to bore into James, and when he looked back, the eyes merely narrowed in heightened suspicion. He leaned toward the captain still deliberating and said quite loudly, “Tktktktktk! We should not trust this one Captain Choep! I do not like him! Tktktktktk.”
The captain waived away the suggestion, the bottom of his flabby arm undulating from the movement. “Bah, you thbink too much Argax! Sthop pestering me! As for you, human! What do you say to three percent?”
James didn’t even need to pretend to think, considering it was a pittance being offered for the position. “Three? What do ya take me for? A scrubber-bot? I’d be finding the best prices for our… wares…. I want eight.”
Choep blinked several times, a purple color creeping up his jowls. “Eight? Eight? Nah, you gothta earn eight, scrounger! Six, and no more!”
Again, James pretended to think, he was going to take it even though it was still a low offer, those listening in through his earpiece were depending on it. He looked back up at the rather underwhelming captain, who had swelled out his paunch to appear bigger, which was a common show of superiority among his toad-like people. To the grizzled miner it was rather laughable. Finally, James nodded once and begrudgingly said, “Fine, but i'll be wanting my fair share as time goes by.” The captain nodded back several times, as did some of the other crew members, though some looked glum at the fact they wouldn’t be toasting him off the dockyard as their hands gripped tight at their holstered combi-blasters. The Lou-Maxi looked quite pleased with himself as he said to his new crew member, “Good, now make shture you get back before too long with your gear, we’ll be taking ofth soon.”
James nodded stoically, and turned about to make his way back to the dive he had rented for the night at this backend port. In truth he hadn’t even bothered unpacking, partly because of the mission, and partly because of his suspicion for the cleanliness of the place. As he turned he locked eyes one more time with Argax the Anthropoid, its many eyes showing nothing but dislike and undiminished suspicion. He knew he would have to step carefully the next few months to avoid the ire of that one. But now phase one was complete of their plan, and soon he would be on his way to possibly finding out if Charlie was alive. Worming away at his consciousness was the idea that it was just a random Tilluxian that was unfortunate enough to have been picked up alive by the indiscriminate pirates, but the burbling spring of hope that had sprouted during the conversation with his friend Eahn would not fully allow the possibility. He shrugged his shoulders and sped up his step. It had to be Charlie.
It had to be.
The next several weeks were rather harrowing for the older miner, and the stress of the facade James constantly had to maintain was getting to him. But he continued on with a stoicism born from desperation and an end goal. Not helping the situation was the constant presence of the multi-limbed menace James sometimes referred to as “Stubby,” that being Argax the arthropoidal alien who seemed to dog his every step with a nasty specist remark and an even nastier glare. He could have had the luxury of talking to a friendly voice using the communicator temporarily embedded in his ear canal, but without the masking of many communication channels a station as big as the Hub would afford him, he couldn’t risk any illicit transmission being picked up by the smuggling ship’s sensors. But several months of work in his role as the inside man (in more than one capacity) went by quickly, and finally the inept Captain Choep announced to the crew that some shore leave at the Hub was coming up.
James cheered and clapped hands with the rest of the pirates, but inwardly he wished the place would become little more than space dust. The hollowed out asteroid was a den of some of the most villainous elements in the galaxy, filled with slave markets, brutal gladiatorial chambers, and a booming black market trade, all orchestrated by one loathsome being: the self-styled Lord Takrex. He held an iron fist over the good-sized pirate fleet he controlled, and was connected enough that he somehow skirted the attention of the systems big enough to take him and the well fortified asteroid station head-on. In the meantime, the systems and colonies most plagued by his nefarious bunch were not large enough on their own to defeat him.
Again, James found himself somewhat day-dreaming as the stars outside the porthole passed swiftly by, thinking of what laid ahead for him, and the reunion he desperately hoped might happen. That worm of doubt reared its ugly head again inside the pit of his stomach, overwhelming his reverie with a sour thought. It isn’t Charlie. It is some poor schmuck of a Dragon who they got their claws into. All of this will be for nothing. Or even worse, if it was Charlie, he had spent these long months in captivity and cruelly-delivered pain while James had been moping about from bar to dingier bar, not even bothering to try and find him or try to do something. The grizzled miner pushed the thought away, but not before a tear began to trace a groove down his cheek and into the stubble where the tousled beard had been several weeks prior. He looked back up into the porthole, but his reflection had been joined by a multi-eyed head!
Turning swiftly, a hand going to his combi-blaster, he found Argax looking back at him slyly from several feet away, taking up most of the doorway. His mandibles clacked out a chuckle. “Tktktktktk, slow human, I have killed Narx Rats faster than you. And what is this, your face is wet! Have you finally cracked under the pressure? Tktktktktktk.” James cursed his little moment, acting like some blubbering fool, but outwardly sneered at his recently-acquired nemesis. “I’m afraid not, Stubby. I was merely crying with joy at the thought of what sort o’ bug spray they might sell big enough to put you on your tubby arse. Or do you think they might have some really big fly swatters? It’s my first time there.”
Argax, already naturally tall, grew taller still as he stalked menacingly toward the leather-clad miner, his eyes narrowed in fury. “Tktktktktk! That is not my name, barkok! I will teach you to-” He was cut off as the pounding of feet on metal decking came down the corridor outside, and both turned to see one of the other crew, another Lou-Maxi named Lorg, as he stopped at the door, his portly frame out of breath but cheery. “Thbe Hub! We’re ath thbe Hub!” He hardly failed to notice the tension in the room, and as he did, he awkwardly paused before nodding to both, and continuing hurriedly down the corridor.
When Argax turned around, the first thing he saw was the barrel of James’ combi-blaster aimed directly at his face. Argax’s smile was venomous but he conceded the situation, backing out of the room slowly with a parting jab. “Watch your back, human, you never know what lurks in the dark! Tktktktk.” James kept the blaster handy as he said, “Cowards mostly, I suspect.” Argax’ smirk vanished, snarling as he turned and stamped noisily down the hallway.
The disguised miner holstered his combi-blaster with a tired sigh as he thought of the good timing. He was glad this mission would be over soon. A drop of salty water that soon fell to the dirty deck plate, however, belied the doubts that continued to harbor themselves in the dark recesses of his mind.
Little Lyanna
Summary:  Jon is out of his mind with worry, trying to busy himself as his wife labours their baby into the world... They've been trying so long, and they had once thought it would not happen.
Notes: As you know, I am taking part in a challenge on tumblr by user 'JonerysFic' and 'MhysaOfDragons' in which for seven days from Valentines day I am uploading a new one shot. The prompts have been provided and the stories have all been written and I gotta say you're in for a lot of Jonerys content. So Day 7, the last day, 20th February, which is when I'm uploading this, the prompt I chose was 'Free Choice'. So I got thinking and decided to expand on my glorious reign series and give you the birth of their first child, Lyanna.
----
Jon was going crazy.
Waiting for the arrival of his and Dany’s child had left him drinking with Tyrion in the hands quarter as a promise to Dany that he’d stay away while she laboured their baby. All of the dogs in King’s Landing were howling, due to the storm that had captured the city and by extension scared the inhabitants into staying inside. Lighting and rain, flashing and fierce. There had been four storms since he and Dany assumed the throne five years ago, but this had by far been the worse. Ironic that their child would also be known as Stormborn like it’s mother, but that also left deep rooted fear within Jon himself.
He wondered if she would survive, after all both of their mother’s had perished when giving birth to them, although Sam was dealing with her, the only person he trusted. But there was still this nagging feeling of fear within him that meant he was on edge and pacing the hands chambers all the while it was going on. He could stand on the Balcony and see their chambers from it, but he wouldn’t know what was happening.
They’d lost a babe already, after the first time they’d made love on the boat from dragonstone to White Harbour, Dany’s bleeding had not arrived. They didn’t count their chickens before they hatched, both of them knowing what happened to her last babe, but when her belly had began to swell with life they were joyous. Jon requested they not tell anyone, as only Missandei, Sam and themselves knew at that moment. But about ten weeks after the conception, Dany bled hard and the babe was lost.
She’d cried for weeks in private with him, they’d shared his chambers and it had been heart-wrenching to see her suffer. She put on a smile for the lords of Winterfell, and when they’d caught her crying she’d always played it off as the lose of her Dragon, which in a sense was also her child. So when her belly had become swollen once again six months ago, they’d been very joyous yet extremely cautious. Jon had not let her do anything, she was to relax for the first few months, must to her annoyance.
And now, she was in labour, a month early.
To make matters worse, Lord Baratheon and Lady Stark (Jon’s sister) had sprung upon them a surprise visit, which meant they too were in the hands chambers, drinking with him as the entertainment Tyrion had quickly thrown together for the visiting family got cut short. Daenerys was in the middle of giving a speech when she’d gushed on the floor and began to feel light headed.
She was early, and this was all the more reason Jon was worried. The chances of both of them surviving was very small, but he’d hoped that she had, they both had. If she was to go… Jon couldn’t even bare to think about it, he loved her so hopelessly that the even consideration that Daenerys Targaryen, his wife, his queen, would never see him again, would never look at him with those eyes, was completely consuming him
“Stop pacing, you idiot” Arya grumbled, fiddling with a knife, twisting it between her fingers. The Valyrian blade that Bran had bestowed upon her all those years ago, before he’s met his end… Jon shook his head and did as he was told. He may be the king, but when Ayra said to do something, he listened without question.
“It’s natural to be fearful, Your Grace” Tyrion countered, pouring red wine into his goblet and almost downing it instantly. “But I can assure you she’s in very good hands”
Jon knew she was, Sam had delivered several babies now including that of his sister, Sansa’s two children with her husband up in the north. He may be Lord of Horn Hill, but he also was their maester, and Jon trusted him more than anyone else besides Daenerys.
“Perhaps we can do something to take your mind off of everything, Your Grace?” Gendry offered. Nothing would take Jon’s mind off of it, he knew as such, but he took the bate and sat down at the table with the other three. “Are there any pressing issues that need resolving in the city?”
“We’ve been dealing with a speight of theft in flea bottom” Jon shrugs, reminding himself that flea bottom needs to be renamed as it wasn’t the hive of poverty it had once been in the era of the Lannisters rule. Jon and Dany had more than enough comforts here in the Red Keep that he’d make monthly donations of food and clothes that were worn by servants down to them and handed them out personally.
“Okay, let’s focus on that then”
It worked for maybe twenty minutes, until Jon swore he heard screaming all the way across the Red Keep. He knows he didn’t, it was more than likely his mind playing tricks on him, but still, it was enough to stop him from wanting to commit to the City’s issues and think about her instead.
He didn’t pray to the old gods, after all he’s seen in the world he doubted any god’s existence anymore, but he did pray to Sam’s ability that he’d keep her alive, both of them. He should’ve ignored Dany, stayed with her until the end, but it had been hours and she’d begged him to go until it was done. He wouldn’t if it was a case of not wanting to seem weak, or not wanting to see the birth, or perhaps if she did pass, she didn’t want him to see it in front of his eyes.
Whatever her reasons, it was a decision that was driving him crazy and fearful and almost alone.
“Sansa has birthed two children, both of which were successfully delivered by Sam, stop having a crisis you’ll look like you’re supposed to be celebrating your fiftieth name day” Arya was growing impatient and Jon did not blame her in the slightest, but had they known about the baby they lost, then perhaps she’d know why he was frightened for his Queen.
Sansa knew now, shortly after the war and her engagement and subsequent wedding to Gawen of House Glover, she’d come to Jon about bleeding heavily and unsure of anyone to turn too. She’d suffered a miscarriage and it had affected her mentally. Jon had offered comfort and told her the story of her and Dany losing one and from that moment, Sansa had dealt with the issue better.
“I’m her husband, she’s my Queen, let me worry” Jon sighs, thinking back to the times in which his worries were the living dead killing all of men-kind.
So much had changed and so much was still to change now that he and Daenerys were to become parents. The capital had been so happy at the news of their King and Queen welcoming a child soon, and thankfully, the other lords in the kingdom had too. Jon had struggled with it on some occasions. A child was something Jon had always wanted but never envisioned he would have when he was serving on the wall, but something that had come true and very shortly, he’d have to be a father.
Would he be a good one?
“Your Grace” Jon hears behind him and so he turns to note several guardsmen and Sam, the Maester and man he trusted amongst everyone else. He was covered in blood, as was to be expected after delivering a baby, but his appearance still filled him with dread.
“Is everything alright?” Tyrion is the first one to speak.
“Mother and babe are both alright” Sam nods and Jon almost wants to fall to his knees. The relief that over spills in his body is almost too much to handle. He doesn’t know whether to sit down, to run to Dany’s side, to kiss Sam even. “The Queen has lost a lot of blood however, so she needs to rest up for a few weeks, eat plenty and drink lots of water to get her up and running again” Sam takes a small pause. “It’s a girl”
Arya squeals piercingly into the air and yet Jon isn’t affected by it, he’s just shocked, his entire system falling apart as he imagines a small girl in his arms. A girl, a little daughter to call my own, our beautiful miracle, our beloved angel . Jon needs to see them both, he need to hold her in her arms and look at the beautiful life he and Dany created together.
“Can I seem them?” Jon ask, knowing that even if Sam said know he’d still go anyways. Sam just nods and that’s all Jon needs to start a quick pace towards his own bedchambers.
The halls are quiet when he leaves Tyrion’s chambers, only guardsmen with smiles on their faces as Jon feels glee and anticipation build in his chest. He follows the way to his chambers that he was so familiar with at this point, seeing servants cleaning and clearing stuff away, seeing cats up on the balcony, seeing the steps to their space. She was there, his little princess was waiting for him, and his queen too.
When he reached the door to his chambers, he was greeted by Missandei who was holding sheets covered in blood, she was smiling brightly when her eyes connected with Dany’s. Clearly happy both the Queen and the girl were okay. She gleefully grins before heading off in the direction Jon came from, leaving him to open the door.
The sound he was greeted with was like music to his eyes, a soft gurgling and a sweet song that melted away every fear in his body. He did not know the song, he thinks perhaps she made it up, but her voice is tunely and melodic and the happiness that was radiating from it was enough to send Jon wild. He sees them then, Dany, sat up in the bed with a small clothed babe in her arms. Jon, in an instant, is at her side.
“Stars above” Jon whispers as Dany kisses him on the cheek. “She’s absolutely perfect”
As he looked at her, he notices she has been born with a thick head full of hair, black hair like his own and a little bit all over the place. Her eyes however, magnificently violet and delightfully wild. Jon knows the babe can’t see them both yet, but she was content just being in her mother’s arm.
“I’m glad you’re here” Dany sighed, Jon knew she was tired. “She needs to hear her Father speak to her”
She passed him over and for what felt like hours, Jon just held her in his arms and looked at her. She was the most perfect creation that has ever been because of him. He loved her with every drop of blood in his veins, every breath in his lungs and ever word in his mouth. He whispered to her, promised her that he would protect her until his last breath, love her until he could not any longer and he even shed tears. He was sensitive in the moment but he did not care.
She was a dream.
“I want to call her Lyanna” He says out of nowhere, not having heard anything Dany had said, just cut off from it all as he stared at the perfect babe in his arms. “I think my mother deserves that” He stated. After everything his own mother went through, everything she and his real father gave up for him, and after wanting to know about her and finally finding out the truth, Jon felt sure that was the little babe in his arms name. “If that’s okay with you”
“Little Lyanna Targaryen” She sighs, sleep wanting to take his wife over. She was now laying down, hoping to get a moment of sleep. Jon did not mind, it meant he got to hold his babe for longer. Little Lyanna Targaryen, it was. “I like it, then if we have another one, we’ll call him Robb”
If we have another one, we’ll call him Robb.
Jon liked the idea, but they had everything they needed for now. Him, his queen and their beautiful Princess Lyanna. A life Jon never envisioned, but one he was grateful of nonetheless.
Higher City, Angel Habitat/Complex - 2:45 AM
Half an hour post-transportation and five hours after Chloe’s accident.
Beca stumbled on her footing as she grasped around the edge of the doorframe, looking for a switch or a pull to shed light into the pitch-black space that expanded beyond the doors of her residence for the next who-knew-how-long.
Her neck whined in an aggravating crick from sitting hunched over Chloe’s bedside for so long and her mind was mushed from the weight of stress, overtiredness, excessive adrenaline usage and above all else, of course--grief. The only thing keeping her from collapsing on the ground in the doorway of this small concrete hallway and weeping herself to sleep was the sentence she continued to recite to herself repetitively under her breath: “Chloe’s alive, everyone’s safe, you’ll be okay.”
She far from even entertained the possibility that the last part was rest assured, but the act of mouthing it repetitively had a numbing effect on her currently fragile mental stamina.
After fumbling for a few seconds, she huffed in exasperation and gave up trying to find a switch. Sleep was the only thing she had the brains to carry out. Deliberation over everything else that had transpired in the past four hours would be performed when her brain was a just little further away from falling apart.
The man at the front desk of the grey building had given her a small but heavy and lumpy grey drawstring rucksack before dropping her off alone in the dingy hall of her new quarters. She set it down by her feet now, using it to prop open the thick black door to let as much light into the room as possible.
Hands outstretched, she shuffled inside and waited until her eyes adapted to the murky black interior. It took a few seconds but eventually the slight outlines of shapes faded into view and she finally spotted what she assumed was a thin standing-lamp in the corner. She stepped blindly towards it and jumped backwards a little when it suddenly flickered on, sensing her hand in the air a few inches before it.
The space was little more than a closet. Beca had little mind to care, too exhausted to be grumpy. Besides, it was pretty comfortable considering her own size. The walls and ceiling were simply white-washed cement and there was a foot by foot square to serve as a window at the farthest wall from the door, though it had little to no effect at this time of the night. She wondered briefly about the concept of daylight here and if there even was sun or moonlight. The sparse furniture was a bed, an old wooden sea-trunk, and a tiny porcelain sink in the corner. Beca placed her rucksack in the trunk and sank onto the stiff but not wholly uncomfortable pallet, lacking any sufficient drive in her to take anything off, including her shoes, or even get under the soft linen sheets. Her eyes fell shut and the relief of deep sleep ebbed impending in her mind’s eye.
Yet her head pounded and her heart still fluttered at a sickening pace under her ribs. She found it increasingly difficult to keep her eyes closed; the image of Chloe, pale and fragile in such a battered state after the accident, had etched itself clearly behind her eyelids. Her breathing was difficult to regulate (she was unsure if this was due to her thinking so deeply on the act of regulating it, or an actual physical anxious reaction) and the room was uncomfortably cold.
She brought her knees to her chest and hugged them tightly. Everything was gone. Everything she and those she loved had worked so hard to build from so little was over and erased without trace. She had trudged heavily from wholly miserable to the happiest she had ever been without ease and certainly not in good time. All of that happiness. Up and gone like passing something eye-catching for its possible beauty in the sand on the beach, but upon running back to find it, its existence is nothing more than imagined.
A distinct memory faded into view. It was more of a moving image (a gif, so to speak) than a memory, but she could hear distant and muffled voices as if she were standing outside the door of a closed cinema to a movie she wasn’t familiar with.
The image was of her and Chloe in their late teens resting under a filter of broken apricot sunset through a canopy of birch leaves shimmering above their heads. Chloe’s head rested on Beca’s shoulder as she ripped up the grass beneath her, spreading it over Beca’s legs like dirty confetti.
She didn’t remember the scene as such. She only knew that it felt real. And that it ached her chest and throat and burned her eyes with the threat of tears.
Now she could no longer withhold the prickling tears and shuddering sobs and resolved that if tiring herself out would be the only route she would be able to take towards a somewhat restful night, she would charge down its’ course at a thousand miles per hour, foot stomped on the gas pedal.
She stretched and bided in the memory as deeply as she could.
Her sobs reverberated softly in the small stone room.
Underneath this, a soft irregular ticking noise sounded from above and outside her window. She ignored it. As it got louder she recognized it to be rain, heavy and sheeted. This prodded her curiosity just enough; still shaking, she stood from the bed and wobbled over to the hand-sized window. Sure enough, though it was dark outside, blue light from a nearby pathway lamp lit up tiny cascading waterfalls down the thick pane.
“How fucking ironic,” she whispered.
-
Chloe called in sick the next day to work. She wasn’t positive why, she simply knew that the exasperation of her most mundane course of existence would eventually wear whatever mere being she had left into the shell of a personality akin to that of a tired old cat.
The events of the past two days had stirred in her a sort of awakening for what it felt like to experience happenstances outside of her citadel of repetitive routine and emotional hibernation. Though it was not the most merry or enjoyable topics to mull over, she found herself wrapped in reflection often and began finding a need to force herself not to dwell on it so much as not to overthink to the point of obsession.
The urge to constantly check in on her odd rescue-project was difficult to quash but necessary. Chloe reminded herself that her relationship was barely visible with this human being--all she had done was let her stay the night and drive her into the city. They had barely even conversed. Still, the event had shaken her, and she had little else to think about. She convinced herself to only inquire into Beca’s situation in two days time when she was sure Beca had become a little more settled. She was confident that Flo was good hands and that she would care for her guest appropriately, especially since now she would be living above the cafe.
Except that Chloe found a bracelet resting on the coffee table by her couch that wasn’t hers. So she kind of had to go back to the cafe. Kind of.
-
It had taken the entire remainder of the day and most of the next to finally situate Beca into a somewhat habitable situation. After Chloe had left, Flo closed up early and she and her new employee spent several hours behind the counter and in the bakery as she showed her the ropes. Beca was happy to see how surprised and pleased Flo was at Beca’s natural agility and skill around the oven and the baked goods. Flo easily taught her to bake the four most popular pastries, specific to her family’s recipes, and how to make four of the simplest drinks on the menu to start out, as well as her way around the cash register. As the day came to a close, they left the cafe to rush their way through several more monotonous but still critical errands like setting up both a bank account and a small, temporary mobile phone. They stopped at Flo’s apartment a few doors down from the cafe before calling it a night and Flo piled Beca’s arms with enough food to last for a week or so. The following morning, Beca set out on her own to blunder her way through a T.J.Maxx and a shopping center to find some clothes that were--well, some clothes. Once she returned to the cafe they worked a little past 6:00 which came oddly fast (her orientation of time and its passing were still muddled and the work at Flo’s came naturally to her.)
Succeeding the whirlwind of toil they had conducted over the past two days, Flo expeditiously suggested that a trip downtown was in order and after twenty minutes of walking briskly through the chill of the celebratory evening, the pair dropped into two rotating stools in a colorfully-lit bar home to some very happy and boisterous company. It had been so long since Beca had had any alcohol, so she ordered the most obnoxious drink on the menu and four jello shots to split between them.
“So, first real day back! How are you feeling?”
Beca sipped her syrupy cocktail and grimaced at the unaccustomed flavor of alcohol.
“I don’t know. Everything’s kinda’ blurry right now, but my brain is sort of slacking off a little in the staying-awake-during-the-regular-daytime department. The time difference is so much more insane than when you swap from different time zones on earth ‘cause there are an extra four hours of daytime and an extra two of night. There aren’t sunsets either, the sky just goes black for a while which is actually really depressing.”
“Wait, so, do you have, like, powers or anything? Can you fly? You don’t have a halo, right?” Beca again decided to refrain from divulging her distressing ordeal concerning her glowing appendages. She had blissfully forgotten about that situation until Flo had mentioned powers, which threw her in a temporary whirlpool of apprehensive unease.
“Not really, and no, I can’t fly. I mean, I can kinda’ tell when something is wrong with whoever I’m guarding, and I can slow down time by a couple of seconds, but that takes so much energy and I can only use it in emergencies. And you know about bringing the memories back, but that’s only if the memories have been taken away by heaven. They mostly spent time training us how to deal with any situation; so like, CPR, difficult-situation negotiation tactics, advanced martial arts and stuff.”
“Oh. That is boring.”
“Yeah, kind of.” Beca sipped her drink again which was less foul the second round, but still jarring.
“So how does this-” She gesticulated vaguely at Beca’s body which she understood as metaphorical- “work anyways?”
“Oh, well after you die, you can request to be a guardian and they put you through this huge crash course for protecting a human. After training you’re assigned one person to guard on earth for their whole life, starting whenever heaven thinks that person needs the most guidance. Sometimes that means bumping into them and becoming best friends with them or marrying and growing old with them. Sometimes you never even meet them in person, just help them from afar. You do what heaven dictates is best for them, so no complicated attachments. When they die, your memory is replaced in the mind of everyone you’ve ever met as someone else, so no one will recognize you when you go back to earth and you get sent back to heaven and reverted to the age you died to start with another assignment. You can never, um, retire or whatever, and apparently you can only stop once you’ve worn out your brain. And then they, you, know, cease you ‘cause you’re no good to them anymore.”
“Shit.” Flo had sat through staring at the dark brick wall behind the bar with a blank expression enunciating her contemplation of what Beca had revealed.
“‘Shit’ is right. I guess it sounds kind of cool when I describe it, but when I thought I was actually going to have to do it for, like, thousands of years, I was really fuckin’ bummed, dude.”
“Understandable. But you hacked the heaven system, how does that work?”
“Yeah, hacked, or something. I don’t even know if they’ll be able to tell. They’re supposed to be able to connect with their angels but I severed that attachment when I changed my assignment. I think they-” Flo brought Beca’s expatiations to an abrupt halt, holding up her palm to signify silence and raising her phone to her ear, an apologetic glance tossed in Beca’ direction.
“Chloe! Hi! What’s up?” Speak of the devil. Beca squirmed a little on her stool at the sound of Chloe’s voice on the other end. She couldn’t quite make out what she was saying, but she didn’t sound particularly troubled. Even so...
“Oh, okay. We’re at a bar downtown right now…uh huh. Yeah, she is all settled, we finished a few hours ago.”
Flo removed her phone from her ear and hid it under her chin to bring her attention to Beca. “She says she has a bracelet of yours?”
“Oh, um. I guess? I don’t really remember having one but-”
“She says it is not hers.”
“No, Flo, I said it might be.”
“Okay...it is hers. You can drop it off at the café. Anything else?”
Beca seized Flo’s phone from her grasp. “Will you give us a sec’ Chloe?” She placed it on mute.
“Hey! What?!” Flo scrambled and stretched, trying desperately to reclaim her confused friend on the other end of the line, but Beca held it out of her reach, exasperated.
“Flo, why are you being like this?!”
Flo sighed heavily off of an exaggerated voiced inhale and rested her hands on Beca’s arm. Beca grew uncomfortable with the sudden sincerity in her voice.
“Okay, listen. Beca, I know you did not come back for the Bellas. I know you just came back for Chloe. I think you really need some time to adjust on earth before you do anything rash. I don’t think you should be getting too close to her and I think that you are idealizing your situation. Por el amor de Dios, Chloe doesn’t even know who you are! You need to slow your ass down, girl! We have the Bella reunion soon. You can wait that long at least.”
Beca chewed on her lip thoughtfully. This was the first vocal confirmation of what she had been refraining from thinking over fully past the whispered voice of reason behind a closet door barely ajar in the very recesses of her mind. For the thousandth time that day she swallowed the reflection of how careless and hasty her actions had been.
Beca had never dwelled so long and hard over someone or something as she had over Chloe whilst in heaven. Only her mother’s death came as remotely close a subject to how ruthlessly Beca obsessed (Obsess - used very much in the dictionary sense; not lightly. See also; beset, consume, haunt, etc.) over Chloe and her accident. Considering this, a complete and detailed plan would definitely make sense in this context; however, obsession to this point considers little factual influence in a non-idealized, material world. Hence, Beca’s rash behavior and her reactions to Chloe in palpable physical situations.
“Okay... maybe you’re right. I guess I was really weighing everything on Chloe liking me for me, and not all the stuff we shared in the past, you know? Sorry about not saying anything about it, and I really am so happy to see you. I love you so much. All of you. Please don’t think I didn’t come back for you guys. You mean everything to me, we’re family. I just, you know... Please schedule the reunion soon?”
“Yes. Fine, I will.” Beca slowly retracted her arm and placed the phone in Flo’s expectant (but now softened and more sympathetic) outstretched palm. She unmuted the call.
“Hi, Chloe, sorry about that, drunk asshole was bothering us. You can bring the bracelet to the reunion. By the way, do we have some dates for that yet? Aubrey should be here this month, right? Yes. No, uh-huh. Okay great, perfect, text the group-chat about it? Okay, bye!” She hung up and grinned at Beca. “Two weeks, as long as everyone is free!”
“Ugh, dude what am I gonna’ do in the meantime?”
“Well, I know that you only came back for-,” Beca threw her a glare and Flo surrendered, hands in the air. “Sorry, right, a couple reasons, and it is all you have got your heart set on, but you need to take a few steps back. I have to say Beca, you really didn’t plan this very well. You need to establish a solid base here because this is your life now. You may be an angel, but if you think about it, I am, like, definitely a saint for doing all this for you.”
Beca flipped her off and returned to wincing down the copious amounts of fluid she had spent an annoying amount of cash on.
“For real though, you’re right. And I really... appreciate everything you’re doing for me Flo, it means a lot.” Flo smiled and nodded.
-
Perhaps if Chloe hadn’t felt so out of place, she would have asked Flo to let her join the girls at the bar. But for some reason, something about the phone call and the whole situation whispered a sense of exclusion -- well intentioned or not, she couldn’t tell. She hadn’t felt this socially anxious in a while. Her mental health was not even anything she had thought about in depth for a few years and she had long ago passively accepted the concept that with age came dampened emotions, and that such was a perfectly natural sequence. If nothing would ever give her real pleasure again, so be it.
Another walk. Another achingly familiar song. Another foot in front of the other. Another fifteen minutes later and she stood in front of a deep, deep dark pond, rocky banks powdered with grey-blue frost. The water reflected with the perfection of a mirror the nothingness of the ashy sky.
Chloe now stared into this nothingness -- the sort of staring where everything at once is what those who are staring can see, but they aren’t looking, just seeing and thinking. She stood, leaning slightly in a gentle trance as she remembered the time she had dived into this same water. She had choked and snorted through her nose as she had come up for air and swallowed some accidentally. A friend on the bank had been slumped over in hysterics at her fruitless efforts to cease wheezing and laughing and coughing and yelling at her friend to stop. In her mind she imagined that it was Beca who sat beside the water giggling at her. Stupid and weird that you’d think of her, she thought, but she couldn’t properly remember who it had really been, and the image of Beca fit comfortably well in the situation.
She closed her eyes and settled deeper into the memory, in place but outside of time. In vein, she tried to remember who had actually been there to witness the moment. She couldn’t even remember when it had happened. This was not a memory she had thought about in...well, truthfully, she had completely forgotten about it since it had happened. The age of the memory prevented her from remembering details. Only present, was the sweet feeling of the moment, a honey-like residue, resting delicately in her conscious.
She was now fully trying to convince herself, however, that Beca had not been there. She finally shook her head as if to dislodge the memory and sharply inhaled cold air, opening her eyes to see, hunched over on the side of the banks with chin rested on knees, none other than the subject of her specious nostalgia. Chloe blinked several times and recognized the figure to be but a log, dark and rubbed to clump from weather and wear. Now freaking herself out she rose swiftly and promptly speed walked for her home, holding herself firmly from looking around for fear of misreading another inanimate object.
She wasn’t there, obviously she wasn’t there. Just someone who reminds me of her, or looks like her. Obviously.
Marriage Material - Part 14 - Jim Kirk
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 / Part 6 / Part 7 / Part 8 / Part 9 / Part 10 / Part 11 / Part 12 / Part 13
Summary: in this chapter, there’s a short trip into jim’s head.
Warnings: language
A/N: a jim chapter. s’all about how jim’s feeling, nothing that drives the plot. forgive typos, im really tired.
He didn’t start any wars that day— and it wasn’t for lack of desire to do so. He would’ve loved to shake the frustration from his system with a few phaser shots here, couple torpedoes fired there. He almost asked Spock to run bioscans on every nearby planet so that once a deserted one was found, he could launch the entire payload of long-range explosives onto its surface.
Obviously, societal norms, morals, and common sense kept him from doing so— but he was still tempted.
There was too much frustration in his system, too much pent-up energy he would have rather spent yelling at you. Nothing malicious, of course, just the usual shouts of “I’m so in love with you I can barely breathe, why can’t you fucking see it?” and “I just want to love you, and care for you, and make you feel the way I feel every time you look in my direction— what the fuck is wrong with you that you won’t let me?”
But he couldn’t do that. Not only because he hated the idea of seeing your eyes lose some of their precious light at his tone, not only because he didn’t think he could stand to hurt you even inadvertently with his volume— he was also terrified.
There was no closing the floodgates once they opened. If he told you he loved you once, he’d have to keep saying it, he’d have to keep assuring you of it, he’d have to keep kissing you in a way that made sure you knew it.
He pictured every possible scenario. You hearing that he loved you and walking out of his quarters without a second glance over your shoulder, you hearing that he loved you and heavy divorce papers finding their way to him in a sooner eventually than he was prepared for, you hearing that he loved you and continuing to fulfill your obligations only because you were obliged to, not because being around him brought you as much joy as it brought him to be anywhere in your vicinity.
The most poisonous scenario, though, was the one bursting with red, bursting with pink. You hearing that he loved you, you understanding that he loved you, you loving that he loved you. Your smile would rival brightness he thought only existed in every star his ship warped past, your eyes would be as filled as anything in his chest with emotions so foolishly blissful, so beautifully scary he’d be unable to look away. You wouldn’t need to say it back until you were ready to, until you were sure you meant it— but he would know it was coming, he would know he’d hear your voice returning his sentiments and it would be worth the wait.
It played in his head repeatedly. He hated so much that his every thought revolved around it, he hated even more how much he hoped for it to come true. He didn’t know what forces controlled the universe, he didn’t know if any forces did— but he asked whatever it was, whatever it wasn’t to give you everything you wanted and then to give you to him.
As he stepped through the doors of the medbay, he didn’t bother keeping a soft focus. He kept his eyes trained in the direction of Leonard’s office and didn’t dare perceive the hall holding the exam rooms he knew you’d be near.
“Alpha’s done, Bones,” he said as he walked through the agape door and planted himself in one of the chairs across from Leonard’s desk. “Time to drink.”
Without looking up from his PADD, Leonard snorted. “Ain’t you supposed to be in a meeting with your chiefs? S’what you told your spouse.”
Jim sighed, his head tilting back as his eyes slid shut. “I needed an excuse to cancel, I used the first one I could think of.”
“Next time, use an excuse that doesn’t involve me.”
Jim brought his eyes back to Leonard as the latter finally shifted focus from the still-glowing screen of the tablet. “D’you tell the truth?”
“Didn’t need to,” Leonard shrugged a single shoulder. “I wasn’t asked about the meeting, I wasn’t given the opportunity to confirm it. She brought it up and said she already knew it wasn’t real.”
Jim sighed heavily once more. “You didn’t fight her on that?”
Leonard offered him a look of skepticism. “Your wife’s one of the smartest fuckin’ people this ship’s ever seen. Fuckin’ intuitive, too— sees through lies in a split-second.”
He couldn’t argue with that. He ran his palms down the lap of his trousers, slouching in his seat that was far less comfortable as compared to Leonard’s. “I’m aware.”
“But you tried to lie anyway?” Leonard didn’t wait for Jim to reply. “And for what? To cancel on a damn date?” He didn’t wait yet again, his volume growing as the edge in his tone did. “You’re the one that was campaignin’ for a date to begin with.”
Before his jaw could clench, Jim took a deep breath. His eyes were narrowed as he glared at Leonard. “S’why I’m asking you for a fucking drink, Bones. I don’t distract myself, I don’t make myself busy elsewhere, I’ll be in that fucking room doing and saying shit I shouldn’t.”
Leonard nodded with a frown of consideration. He pulled a bottle of “the cheap stuff” from his bottom drawer and two glasses from the middle drawer. “Heard about that, too. ‘Cept your wife was the one sayin’ shit she shouldn’t.”
Jim snorted, watching as the amber liquid filled a third of each glass. He took the one Leonard slid in his direction. “She didn’t say anything. Just said something about how she and I are good at sex and how dating doesn’t have to entail real feelings.”
“Yeah, the doin’ mundane things with someone else argument,” Leonard nodded, taking sip of his drink and sighing. “I heard.”
“Should you be telling me that you’ve heard that? S’not breaching shrinker-shrinkee confidentiality?”
He snorted. “I’m no one’s fuckin’ shrink. I hear both sides of this bullshit all day— the more I tell you, the less time it takes for this tomfoolery to end.”
“You don’t feel like you’re betraying anyone’s trust?”
He shook his head. “I ain’t tellin’ you the big stuff, I don’t tell her the big stuff. Mostly because I play it by ear and have no recollection of anythin’ you oversized infants tell me.”
Jim smiled at that, shaking his head. He swallowed the remainder of his drink and poured himself another. “I’m glad you’re here for her. Can’t tell Uhura much, probably doesn’t even want to tell Uhura much.”
“Doesn’t tell me much either. It all comes out in reluctant bursts followed by a few apologies and promises to never say anythin’ again,” Leonard said with a rueful smile. “S’frustratin’ as shit, but it’s cute.”
“It is cute,” Jim’s smile was slow and small but quick to fade. “All I want to do is be open and honest— but I— Fuck, man, I can’t be open and honest.”
Leonard set his glass down, smirking as he poured a third serving of whiskey for himself. “Be partially open. Say some shit, keep the other shit in.”
“I can’t open that door even partially. I’ll start to say ‘I have feelings for you beyond attraction’ and end up saying ‘I’ve been in love with you since the day we met.’”
Leonard practically laughed. “You got a problem, man.”
“Yeah? Tell me something I don’t know.”
“There’s a lot you don’t know, Jim. I won’t be able to pick just one thing to tell you,” he mumbled, shaking his head to himself. “For example, your girl’s usin’ up your hot water allowance for the week right now.”
He shrugged. “‘Least she’s not fucking someone else.”
“Yeah, that’s the bright side,” Leonard snorted. “Good job seein’ it.”
Four and a half additional servings of whiskey and no useful tidbits of advice later, Jim stood in front of the door to his quarters with his finger poised to enter his passcode. He opened his eyes wider when the numbers seemed to jumble together, blinking down forcefully when those same numbers became wide smudges.
He sighed and decided to knock instead, rapping his knuckles against the door three times until it slid open with a loud hiss.
“Drunk,” you said with a single nod, narrowing your eyes at him as he brushed past you to enter the room. “I didn’t know getting hammered was a part of Starfleet meeting regulations.”
“Not drunk,” he replied, the words leaving his lips in a slower succession than normal.
He toed off his boots and collapsed onto the couch dramatically. His long body stretched across the cushions, his feet set atop one armrest while his head rested against the other. He hugged a blue throw pillow to his chest. “Buzzed is all.”
You tilted your head as you watched his eyes slide shut. “Yeah? Buzzed people can’t open their own doors?”
“It’s too dark in the halls to see the little buttons.”
You snorted. “Yeah, that’s never true.”
You tilted your head once more, taking quiet steps towards him and crouching beside the couch. You placed your hand on his shoulder and shook gently. “Sunshine, sleep in the bed.”
He hummed something incoherent and you smiled, brushing the stray locks of blonde hair from his forehead. He leant into your hand when your thumb moved down to stroke his cheek, a corner of his lips quirking upwards. “I lied to you.”
You shifted so you were kneeling, sitting back against your heels. You watched as his eyes opened again, glassy bright blues meeting your gaze expectantly. “I know you did.”
He continued searching for something in your irises and you were afraid he’d find it. “I feel bad about it.”
“You shouldn’t.”
“Why not?”
You sighed. “After that shit show this morning, I wouldn’t want to spend time with me either.”
He shook his head, clicking his tongue as his lips fell into a scowl. “It’s not about that. I do want to spend time with you, that’s usually all I want to do.”
“Then what’s it about?”
Turning his face, he pressed his lips to the inside of your palm and sighed against your skin. “I hear you’ve used up all the hot water for the week.”
You bit down on your bottom lip and nodded, flashing him a smile to hide your disappointment when he looked at you again. You weren’t sure what you were hoping for from a drunk Jim, but it was certainly more than topic evasion. Seeing as he asked you to marry him the last time alcohol spiked his judgement, you thought you’d be audience to a lot more. “Thermostat’s still on the fritz and I wanted something to warm me up. I should’ve realized we’ll now be showering with ice cold water and stepping out into ice cold quarters. I’m sorry for that.”
He shook his head, his eyes shutting once more. He sighed a hum out when your fingers moved to his hair, your nails lightly scraping his scalp. “Don’t be. As long as you felt nice while doing it, it’s okay.”
You laughed softly, shaking your head when Jim’s eyes snapped open at the sound. “Remember that when you’re cold and sober in the morning.”
“I will as long as you remember it’s okay when you’re cold and sober in the morning.”
You smiled wider. “I’m already married to you, sleeping with you, and dating you. There’s no need to keep being so nice about everything.”
“Maybe I’m being so nice about everything so you continue staying married to me, sleeping with me, and dating me,” he returned with a laugh when you slapped your hand against his chest. “I’m nice to you because of how I—” he swallowed, still staring at you, “how I feel about you.”
You nodded, pulling on his hair gently so his eyes fluttered shut.
“Do you want to know how I feel about you, starlight?”
“No, I don’t.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, Jim, I’m sure,” you said with a small smile when he opened his eyes. “You shouldn’t reveal secrets while drunk— your sober mind will hate you for it.”
“My sober mind is already not a fan of drunk me. Drunk me went straight to marriage rather than asking you out on a date like a normal person.”
You snorted a laugh, the strain in your knees making you wish you were seated in a different position. “Yeah, well, drunk me agreed.” Your fingers then traced his features lightly, your index finger sliding down the slope of his nose. “Drunk me would say yes to anything you ask.”
He grinned. “Then let’s get some alcohol in you.”
You pinched his nose and laughed when he slapped your hand away, rising onto aching legs as you shook your head. “What could you possibly have left to ask me?”
“What you just said no to.”
Something in your chest stopped at the seriousness in his voice. You scoffed nonetheless. “Get up. Sleep on the bed. Your head’s already going to hurt in the morning, don’t punish your back, too.”
He sighed heavily and pushed himself off the couch, his posture slouched as he began walking. “Yeah, yeah.”
“And brush your teeth.”
“Okay.”
“And drink some water.”
He nodded, still shuffling to the bathroom. “Okay.”
“And change out of your uniform.”
“Yes, right,” he left the bathroom and started towards the closet.
“Most importantly, kiss your wife goodnight.”
He smiled, pulling his command gold tunic off and readjusting his black undershirt. “Yes, immediately.”
