You wake up. Eat. Get dressed. Wait.

Khonshu doesn't come.

You eat. Get changed. Go to bed.

Wake up. Eat. Get dressed. Wait.

Khonshu doesn't come again.

So you eat. Get changed. Go to bed.

Wake up. Eat. Get dressed Wait.

Nothing.

Nothing again.

Or the day after that.

Or the one after that.

Khonshu doesn't come to see you in over a week. You have no way of contacting other than through Jake, but Jake hasn't picked up his phone the past couple nights.

You can't call during the day because that's when Steven and Marc are living their lives. Jake has taken to the nights where he can be Khonshu's avatar without them knowing.

He must be busy.

They must be busy.

You sit in your apartment and wait. Nothing. Still nothing. You hate it. Was Khonshu avoiding you? Was this to do with whatever was keeping him so quiet? You would rather he insult you than be so... quiet!

A voice startles you.

"All alone without the bird brain?"

You stand up quickly and turn around. Anubis? Why was he here?

He laughs.

"Surprise! Bet you thought you'd seen the last of me."

You watch him with cautious eyes.

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you."

You stare at him with distrust. Your work with Anubis was over. You didn't need him now. He certainly didn't need you. The gods could have whoever they pleased.

"Why?"

Anubis grins, bearing sharp teeth. The sight unsettles you because you know he has an agenda. He's here for a reason.

"I can't come and see you after your service to me?"

"A very short service which has been completed. Shouldn't you be in Egypt with a new avatar? You're free now."

Anubis chuckles deeply.

"Why would I want another when I had a perfectly capable one? If not for Khonshu, you could have stayed in my service."

You swallow nervously.

"Khonshu wouldn't want that."

"Exactly my point. Are you really going to let the bird keep the worm to himself? Unless of course you have feelings for the bird, which would really explain the situation."

"I do not have feelings for Khonshu. I trust him. He is my friend. He has looked after me all these years, even when he couldn't be with my physically. What good would it be making me an avatar? Especially to someone other than Khonshu?"

Anubis scoffs.

"But he won't take you as his avatar will he? Did you ever ask him why?"

"Because I'm important to him. I'm special."

"That you are. It's wasted not to take you as an avatar. I will heal you. I will keep you from deaths door, as ironic as they may seem, because you will the one weighing the scales on this mortal realm. You and I will be quite the team."

You glare at him.

"What do you get out of this?"

"You."

You stare at him hard. You don't know what he means by this. You don't understand what he wants. Why are you so important to him?

"I'm not interested."

Anubis stands tall, gripping his staff. He looks down at you with beady eyes. A shiver runs down your spine.

"You will call upon me one of these days. When you see that Khonshu is wasting your potential, you will see."

Anubis leaves.

Your phone rings almost instantly. You pick it up and answer it.

"Hello?"

"Hiya!" It's Steven.

"Steven, hi. You all good?"

"Well, um, actually, I was wondering if you could come over? Marc and I would like to talk to you about something."

You hope this isn't about Jake.

"Uh, sure. You good?" You ask.

"Yeah. Fine. It's just... well, can you come over?" He asks.

"I'll be there."

"Great. Great!"

He hangs up and you stare at your phone. It's here you notice a text. From Jake.

Jake: Your bird boyfriend is pissed. Might want to check in soon.

You stare at the text.

What is going on?

I’ve been rewatching the show, and it’s just been lying there to everyone's eyes and no one is seeing it.

I find the Narcissus Complex in Moon Knight so fascinating!

Marc: The original avatar, is a little boy whose traumatised subconscious created an alternate identity based on an adventurer character from an old film to deal with his troubles in life and especially his abusive mother. This personality/identity, Steven, is passionate about Egypt and knows hieroglyphs, speaks French and ancient Egyptian, loves French poetry, and dreams of adventures.

Growing up, Marc commits crimes that lead him to meet and fall in love with a woman, Layla, daughter of an Egyptian archaeologist, who also happens to be passionate about Egypt and knows hieroglyphs, speaks French and ancient Egyptian, loves French poetry, and is an adventurer of her own.

Can you see it now? Do you finally realise what’s really going on? Steven and Layla are exactly the same! So, Marc, conscientiously or not, is in love with and married a woman who is literally the female counterpart of his other identity. Do you understand that this means Marc is in love with and married to Steven? That is so hilarious and exciting at the same time!

Oh, and make no mistake. The feeling is mutual. Steven fell also in love, with Layla’s adventurous and badass style. Thus, everything Marc is. Conclusion? Marc and Steven are in love with each other. Narcissus Complex, here you are!

Narcissism & The Narcissus Complex differences: Narcissism the fact of having an excessive interest in our own physical appearance and/or image and an excessive preoccupation with our own needs. But the Narcissus Complex is different in that it involves being self-absorbed in one certain form.

It’s categorised by the reflection Narcissus’ image is taking in the water of the pond. An image of purity and innocence. But Narcissus himself is neither of that. So he falls in love with his reflection which represents perfection. This describes exactly the relationship between Marc and Steven.

Marc is self-absorbed by the form of Steven who is perfection through his happy life. He is innocence because he has never committed a crime. He refuses violence and always tries to resolve conflict with words rather than fists. That’s how the alters work together, they seek in each other what they always have sought in themselves. In the same way that Narcissus has always sought perfection in himself.

This was super awkward.

Sitting on the back of a limo, Khonshu on one side, Anubis on the other. Both of them dressed as if they were about to walk the red carpet.

You sit between them, dressed casually and comfortably. No one was really going to see you... for long.

The driver, Jake Lockley- and Khonshu's avatar- was inside getting Harrow. Arthur Harrow had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital after Ammit was bound to him, and Marc refused to kill him.

Khonshu wanted the job finished. Not because Ammit still lived, but so you could be free from Anubis. The deal was to defeat Ammit, and in Anubis' book, that meant to kill her. Cease her existence.

Khonshu would set you free. He wanted his star back.

You stare at your hands in your lap. There wasn't even any music playing. The tense air of the two gods either side of you was suffocating.

Khonshu reaches out and places one hand over yours. You look up slowly, following his white suited arm up to his face with your eyes.

"He won't be long," he tells you.

"I know."

You hear Anubis snicker. You turn your head to face the jackal headed man.

"So keen to be rid of me already?" He asks.

"I became your avatar to help my friends, not to serve you for a lifetime. I help Khonshu and his avatar, that's what I do."

Anubis just chuckles again.

You turn away from the gods to stare at your lap again, this time at the gloved hand of Khonshu which remained there. You were glad for it really. Something comforting.

The car door opens. Your head lifts to see Arthur Harrow being thrown in. You don't see Jake as he closes the door. You hear the muffled sound of something tipping over.

Harrow gives a dry chuckle.

"You can't kill us," he sighs. "You won't kill us," he looks at you.

You look at him sadly.

"Harrow... if there was any other way, I would choose it. I know we've been through a lot in the past, but I can't change what happens now. Khonshu won't change his mind even if I begged."

Arthur looks at you for a few moments in silence before looking out the window.

Khonshu knocks on the window.

Harrow turns to look back at you and him.

The screen behind you rolls down.

"You get out of the car, dear star," Khonshu says, patting your hand.

You look at Harrow.

"I'm sorry it has to be this way."

"What do you mean?" He asks.

You smile sadly at him and then climb out. Anubis stays in the car with Khonshu. You close the door behind you and stand off to the side.

You don't hear the shots. Jake's gun is silenced. You see the flashes though. You look down when no more come.

Harrow is dead.

Khonshu's window winds down and he looks out at you.

"Get in the front with Jake."

You nod silently and do as you're told. The screen is back up so you can't see in the back. Jake gives a curled smile as you climb in the front with him.

You smile back, but it's only a small polite one.

Harrow is dead and that chapter of your life is left behind you now. Anubis releases you from his service.

"He's gone..."

Jake look at you.

"How do you feel?" He asks.

You look at him and smile again.

"Free."

Jake grins at that and drives away from the hospital. He has a body to dispose of, and he owes you a drink.
