Well, everyone. It turns out Christians have been lining their Bible pages with washi tape to create tabs that make it easier to find the different books and sections! Gasp! I just found out because my YouTube recommendations are 99% bujo supply videos. Naturally, pagans and occultists need to steal this idea for our notebooks immediately.

I already did this to my reading journal, dividing out the sections, and it works incredibly well. I didn't even use different varieties of washi, just one (matching) kind, which was what I had on hand, but it still made it much easier to find things. Depending on how many sections your book has, you could use different colors of washi tape, though.

I know that the boys' colours don't actually match up with my yellow September theme, but look at me not giving a single flying fuck - Connor is here to stay, and so is Nines, once and forever, thank you very much. 💙

It felt so, so good to design this and see my month at a glance. I love to flip through my old journals and look at old times... everything is full of Detroit since this March, though. 😄

Since I started listening for the millionth time to The Magnus Archives I decided that for my bullet journal of next year I'd like to do an Ex Altiora cover page, and so today I tried to come up with an idea (also inspired by some merch rusty quill has done). I am very happy howbit turned out, and I'll be doing something like that for my next bujo. I know I have still two months ahead before I'll have to change notebook, but after I had this idea yesterday I couldn't get it out of my head.

Productive things I did today:

practiced my thesis presentation

day two of making sourdough starter

continued my new re-listening of The Magnus Archives

spend some time drawing (this also counts as self care tbh)

practiced Irish on duolingo

What is your favourite book at the moment? Now, find a song to match this book and explain your choice.

This question is always so hard, I hate picking favourites. I usually say that my favorutie book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. For some reason a song that came to mind is Coming Down by Five Finger Death Punch, I was struggling to come up with a song that channeled both the hurt and the anger the Creature rightly feels towards its creator and this one is the one that fits best (I am sure that one of these days I'll think of a song that will fit the book even better). Since the question talks about a favourite of the moment I'll add a bonus one on one of my favourite books of the year so far. There were a few books from which to pick but I chose Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell because it's been living rent free in my head ever since I read it. I wish I could think of a song that experesses the brotherly love I so adored in the book but the song with the most similar vibe is Our Decades In The Sun by Nightwish. If you have read the book and listen to the song you'll see why. The words, the melody, everything fits perfectly with the book. It's a song I deeply love and even if you have not read the book you should listen to it, because it's so beautiful.

Finally remembered to take pics of the journal lol (better late than never). I rounded out February with 14 books read, many of them really fun reads, but head and shoulders above the rest was You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty by @azemezi which I did on audio read by the awesome @prospertunia - I was practically feral by the end of the book bc I Had To Know How It Ended Immediately Ack. Also, justice for Joy, she’s amazing, I love her, I hope we get to see her HEA someday too 💖 My March theme comes directly from @mochibujo Patreon journaling kit - Jellyfish Ladies in Space! (There’s no “official” name, but that’s basically the inspiration 💜) I used my Prismacolor pencils to color in some of the phenomenal black-and-white cover page - it just looked too stark in my journal without the color - and various @notebook_therapy washi from mostly the Moonlit Alchemy set on the tabs (I really liked how the gray-toned lavender tapes complemented but didn’t distract from Hedda’s design - also, the @archerandolive Heliotrope Calliograph brush pen I used for the headers I lettered was an exact match to the purple in the kit💜) The three photographs are pictures I took of the jellyfish at the @montereybayaquarium on a trip in 2019. 📸 Part of why February was a great reading month was due to #blackathon2023 hosted by @jesseonyoutube_ 💕💕 I knocked out my 6th book with 2 minutes to go in the month to complete my #teamoshun prompts 🎉 And finally - in a little life update, I have hip surgery scheduled for Friday 🙃 so I have a week of CHG showers and mupriocin to put in my nose twice daily. I much prefer the size of this to the A5 ones I usually get, it's perfect for me! This one has 160gsm paper too - I haven't noticed any ink bleeding so far. It doesn't have an index like the leuchtturm but I don't mind because I think I prefer using tabs anyway.

Key Points grey highlighter

I've wanted a grey highlighter for ages, it matches with my pastels nicely. The shape of the tip is a bit different, you've got to hold it just right or it doesn't quite work properly but it's a decently cheap option.

Paw print paper cutter

I wish I'd bought one of these ages ago, it's so much more practical especially for things like Dutch door layouts and this one was too cute to pass up, and nice to hold.

Memo Me sticky memos

The colours are nice but I do wish they'd had an option for a range of different pastels instead of just single colour gradients. Also I'm not entirely sure it's sticky enough to hold up so we'll see how long they last.

Butterfly Deco stickers

I wanted these for those kind of vintage stamp type aesthetics. They're a bit transparent but I like them!

Perfume bottle sticker pack

Ok these are really cute but I haven't entirely decided how to use them yet. They'll definitely need a background because they're white so they're not really visible just on the paper.

Precise 0.2mm fineliner

I use a fountain pen for all my normal writing but it just doesn't work with a highlighter so this is great for writing calendar dates and other things that I know are likely to get highlighted later on. Plus the nib size is perfect for my tiny handwriting.

I adore birds and my last pet was a beautiful cockatiel baby so whenever I see anything with a tiel on it I simply MUST buy it. This one is so so cute!

Pilot frixion star stamp

I picked this up because I wanted to rate the books I read in the reading log in my bujo and it's the easiest way to do the star ratings. I love these little stamps, I've had the little birthday cake one for ages to show birthdays on the calendar pages.

cw personal stuff, mental health, menstruation, adhd, medication, passively suicidal thoughts

so i have PMDD, which isnt great, and over the last decade or so i've been tweaking my entire life to try and make said life livable

a rundown: if i am unmedicated, have no vitamin supplements and do nothing in particular to handle my pmdd, i have three weeks out of every month where i am incredibly depressed, fatigued beyond reason, passively suicidal (as in: i do not think i would move if a boulder was going to run over me, but i am not going to go onto tinder to try and match with a boulder any time soon), apathetic about everything except (if i'm LUCKY, else the depression is worse) my current hyperfixation, unable to focus on anything (so my adhd is worse, which took me until a year ago to realize) and just...terrible

three weeks of every month

i figured out quickly that the pill helps, but i cant have the combined pill (i have migraines) so i'm stuck with the minipill (which is progesterone only, i believe?) of which one brand doesn't give me horrible side-effects

this brings me down to like.. a week and a half before my period is shitty? still passively suicidal, still terrible adhd issues, but less time

i called up my doctor who offered me antidepressants which i didnt really want and she recommended vitamin... B6? which i take a big supplement of, and i will admit helps a lot

but the thing that i hadnt realized was having a really strong (positive) effect is i started taking 5-HTP a few years ago in the hopes it would combat my depression and apathy, which it does! and i did not realize

until i got on my ADHD medication and came off my daily caffeine supplement (which i was using to self-medicate said ADHD) and the 5-HTP in the concern it might have a bad reaction

i'm being titrated on the ADHD medication rn (so week 1 is 20mg, week 2 is 30, week 3 is 40, week 3 (current!) is 50, and finally week 4 is 60, and the goal is to find the dose that has the best effect on my ADHD

this medication is amazing and my fatigue is all but gone, which is astonishing and makes me want to cry with a combination of relief and, i guess, grief? because i've lost 15+ years of my life to thinking my problem (CFSME, which I might still have but i dont KNOW and honestly probably never will) couldnt be medicated/fixed (CFSME they just send you home to rest and reduce stress like meh over here) and it actually could??? i just had the wrong target?? i thought my brain was okay but my body was fucked but actually my brain was broken this whole time? hahaha fuck

anyway that brings us to today where i am sitting here, really low, genuinely wishing a boulder would hit me up on tinder, not really giving a shit about anything (including going downstairs to wake my ducks up for breakfast, you know, the ducks i've been sewing diapers for, the ducks i love more than life itself), kind of wanting to cry

my apathy came back a week or so ago, and i've realized the apathy is what the 5HTP was effectively medicating as well as it was. and now i checked my bujo and sure enough this time last month was my pre-period week so no wonder i want to goddamn die

and i'm still stuck on mobile data (some guy did 60 in a 20 and knocked out the pole that held up all the wires at the bottom of our street and we've had no internet ever since, we're on tethered mobile data and have been this whole time, i have bought 22GB of mobile data and the first 10GB i went through like a flash because it turned out the tumblr app on my phone was using background data like crazy and i hadnt realized and now i'm refusing to buy more data because this is STUPID) and everything just feels helpless and hopeless

and i'm finally feeling all the things about the fact this could have been fixed. this could have been fixed years ago

i didnt have to live like this

2023 prep work. I assign each month a color using my Zebra Mildliners. For the past three years I���ve used the color scheme on the left, designed to match holidays/seasons for the month. But…when all the months get together, I wasn’t really liking how they looked in a row. I wanted more of a transitional color feel while still staying somewhat true to those themed ideas. After a few hits and misses I think I’ve finally got it figured out. What do you think? I really like the bullet journal system, it’s turned me from a disorganized mess to having a reputation at work for being super organized. I’d recommend starting simple. The gorgeous art journals are appealing, but will you use it consistently if you need to spend 20 minutes making sure the thing you’re writing matches the aesthetic? Get in the habit then mold the system until it’s yours!

But thank you so much for your tips, it just reminded me to pick up my abandoned bujo (which in hindsight, was probably just an adhd "obsession" phase) lol, but this really is helpful. Sending you lots and lots of sunshine anon <3333

Well, 10 days into December and I’m finally posting my November reading wrap up and December journal pages 😹😹 14 books read in November and I used another picture from the November Mochibujo patron mood board and some @notebook_therapy Hinoki washi to fill the empty space. I’m still so in love with Hedda’s cottage core in Japan theme for the month (and if the USPS ever coughs up my order from @ikigaipapir I can use that plus the November Patreon stickers to set up my yearly collections journal, stay tuned 😉) Now, December is a lesson in “don’t do your journal layout and glue things down/write with permanent pen after taking your Flexeril” 😹🙀😹🙀😹 I got the cover page in just slightly crooked, attempted to write “Playlist” on the right side of the page but ran off the page onto the last page of the setup 🙃, and forgot how to drop shadow correctly. I also got maybe a little too enthusiastic with the washi tape cat and Christmas stickers. LOL. But, you know. It all works out in the end. The cover page, moodboard images, Mochitones, bunnies, and phrases are all from @mochibujo December Patreon kit. The gold dot washi and cat faces washi are from Michael’s, the various holiday washi stickers are from @thewashitapeshop, and the emergency cover-up washi on the Playlist are from @papermonogatari and NT.
