Taking away your reblog privileges since none of you understand that my point is that proplan is overpriced and that other foods exist with comparable or better ingredients.
I never said grain free was good, I never said proplan kills dogs, I literally just said it was overpriced. Why is that a cardinal sin to some of you lol, corn is a very cheap ingredient and makes up a large chunk of the proplan recipes. It should not cost that much.

Hello! I saw your ask response about pet food and was wondering what you feed your cats? I hadn’t realized that the lesser known brands weren’t as good but I’m unsure if one of the main brands is better than the others
I personally feed my cats Purina Pro Plan LiveClear as my boyfriend is allergic. Prior to that I was feeding Hills Science Diet. If I run out between bags I will feed Iams while I wait for Pro Plan to come in.

Life lately
Gym, shooting, walking, back to some running, doing some tracking, seeing some friends, working on some uni tasks.
Our beautiful dogs both have procedures. Max on Friday, Ariana on Tuesday. ❤️‍🩹
Tumblr media
Here they are having a big snooze. Max has a lump on his head which could be an inflamed gland. Ariana had two tumors - one is quite large and it happened very rapidly. They both still love their walks, haven’t gone off their food and are still very much them so I am hoping these are all positive signs for these issues to be benign.

Tortoises need a highly VARIED diet of WILD flora. Lettuce is not even good for them. Cucumbers and most other grocery store fruits vegetables should be only fed as an occasional treat. I am so annoyed at the amount of people showcasing their pet tortoises yet can’t even give them the basic proper care they need. It’s fucking infuriating!!!! Adult tortoises need a huge amount of space to explore and roam, they are not house pets!!!!!!! If you can’t keep an exotic animal properly then don’t have one it’s that simple

"The best book"
Once upon a time in a small village nestled among rolling hills, there lived a young girl named Emily. Emily was known for her love of books. She cherished the stories they held, the adventures they offered, and the knowledge they imparted. In her village, where most children played outside or helped their parents with chores, Emily spent her days at the village library, a quaint little building filled with books of all kinds.

Can you buy those bags of frozen veggies (or just chop your own) and store them in the freezer? Leafy stuff like lettuce probably won't freeze well but chopped up veggies should be fine.
You could make a bunch of batches of food and freeze them in cubes or some kind of tray so you can easily cut and thaw portions.
I can't for Ed, most of what he needs is leafy greens. Daily staples for bearded dragons include dandelion greens, turnip greens, collard greens, mustard greens, arugula/rocket, and cactus pads. They get squash (can be acorn, butternut, spaghetti, etc) in addition to that as a daily staple, all other veggies are just occasional extras.
That said, I've frozen greens as part of a varied chop before, with dry ingredients added to help soak up water, for the rats. It does get a bit mushy, but they still loved it. But it wouldn't work for Ed.
Past ratty chop!

Is carrageenan in wet cat food actually a bad ingredient? I've frequently seen people say to not feed your cats food with it in it because it can cause inflammation or even serious health problems like cancer, but I can't find any actual sources. I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask!
Hi, @release-the-hound here.
There is a lot of debate about carageenan (red seaweed/irish moss). When processed with acids it degrades into a substance known as poligeenan. Poligeenan has been proven to cause gastrointestinal lesions in animals. It was previously known as degraded-carageenan (d-CGN) further muddling the waters.
There has been some amount of fear and discussion that food-grade carageenan could become poligeenan when exposed to stomach acid during digestion. This has never been proven. The negative effects of poligeenan have been proven, but poligeenan is not FDA approved for use in food, so you won't find it in your cat food.
Poligeenan is not carageenan. It is produced in laboratory settings by subjecting carageenan to acid hydrolysis at a low pH (0.9 to 1.3) at temperatures above 80 degrees Celsius for several hours. While cats do have a lower pH than human stomachs I've never seen one heat up to 80 degrees Celsius. If it did, you'd have more to worry about than stomach ulcers.
People have been fearmongering about carageenan for decades but have yet to provide any substantial evidence against this FDA approved substance. In my opinion I think it's unlikely that carageenan produces the symptoms you've listed, although poligeenan might. I also think it's unlikely that your cat's stomach is similar enough to the laboratory settings necessary to transform carigeenan into poligeenan. But that's just my opinion. Current research supports me, but I'm not omniscient so I can't guarantee that it is impossible for this substance to hurt your cat. Carageenan is not necessary for cat health, it's just a common emulsifier. If you are truly worried and want to switch to a carageenan-free diet, your cat won't suffer for it as long as the food is still formulated properly.

My dog is allergic to salmon, chicken, lamb, turkey, duck, and fish mix. Also rice. It's so funny because every source I find says "beef is one of the more common foods that dogs form allergies to" but I guess she's just a trendsetter.
Anyways if you have any recommendations for beef food that doesn't have rice I'm all ears :)
That is highly unlikely. How was that diagnosed? Did you run a food trial that avoided each of those ingredients exclusively for 6 to 8 weeks and then put them back on a food containing those items and the symptoms returned? If not, know that's the only way that food allergies can be accurately diagnosed. Blood and hair tests are completely inaccurate.
Your best bet is a hydrolyzed protein diet if the pet is truly allergic to all of the above. Your vet will have told you this if you completed any testing with them.

What is SEO and Why is it Essential for Business Promotion?
In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for the success and growth of any business. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plays a vital role in improving a website's visibility and driving organic traffic. In this SEO-friendly content, we will explore what SEO is and why it is essential for businesses looking to promote their products or services effectively.
What is SEO? Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to the process of optimizing a website's content, structure, and relevance to improve its visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). It involves various techniques and strategies to enhance a website's ranking and attract organic traffic.
How does SEO work? Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo use complex algorithms to determine the relevance and quality of websites. SEO aims to meet the criteria set by these algorithms, ensuring that a website appears higher in search results for relevant keywords. By optimizing on-page elements, creating valuable content, and building high-quality backlinks, SEO helps search engines understand and rank websites effectively.
The Importance of SEO for Business Promotion Increased Online Visibility With millions of websites competing for attention, being visible in search engine results is crucial. SEO helps businesses improve their online visibility, allowing potential customers to find them easily when searching for relevant products or services. Higher visibility increases the chances of attracting organic traffic and potential leads.
Targeted Traffic SEO ensures that your website appears in front of the right audience. By optimizing for specific keywords and utilizing local SEO strategies, businesses can reach their target market effectively. This targeted traffic is more likely to convert into paying customers, resulting in higher sales and revenue.
Cost-Effective Marketing Compared to traditional marketing methods, SEO is more cost-effective in the long run. It allows businesses to attract organic traffic without paying for every click or impression. While SEO requires an initial investment, the long-term benefits outweigh the costs, making it a valuable marketing strategy for businesses of all sizes.
Brand Credibility and Trust
When a website appears higher in search results, it creates a sense of credibility and trust among users. People tend to trust search engines' recommendations, considering top-ranking websites as authoritative and reliable. By implementing SEO techniques, businesses can establish their brand as a trusted industry leader, gaining customer confidence.
Long-Term Results One of the significant advantages of SEO is its ability to provide long-term results. Unlike paid advertising that stops once you stop paying, SEO efforts continue to yield benefits over time. By consistently optimizing and updating your website, you can maintain and improve your rankings, ensuring a steady flow of organic traffic and business growth.
Conclusion In a highly competitive online landscape, SEO is a crucial aspect of business promotion. It helps businesses improve their online visibility, attract targeted traffic, and establish brand credibility. By investing in SEO strategies, businesses can stay ahead of the competition, increase their organic reach, and achieve long-term success in the digital world.

5 Tips to Keep Your Dog Warm in the Winter
Tumblr media
Invest in doggy outerwear - sweaters, hoodies, jackets, vests, even shoes! There's a whole market of pet clothing nowadays. One of our favorite brands of K9 outerwear is Canada Pooch
Tumblr media
It's important to note that not every dog's coat may be enough to keep them warm in the winter - especially puppies, small or hairless breeds, elderly dogs, or those with health issues. Just like with people, pets' cold tolerance can vary based on their coat, body fat stores, activity level, and health. Pets with heart disease, kidney disease, or metabolic diseases like diabetes and Cushing's might also have a harder time regulating their body temperatures.
Tumblr media
Protect your dog's paws when it's snowing. Boots can help minimize contact with the ground and prevent snow and ice from getting lodged between their toes and causing frostbite. Like chapped lips, cracked paws can be annoying and painful, and built up snow and ice can irritate their sensitive skin between their toes.
Tumblr media
It might feel awkward at first for some dogs, so try to use positive reinforcement as they try to adjust to wearing their boots. Offer high-reward treats so they can learn to associate good things with their boots - when the boots are on, good things are going to happen! :)
youtube
Tumblr media
If boots still don't feel right for your dog, you can try applying paw balm or petroleum jelly-based products like Musher's Secret to keep your dog's paws safe and moisturized.
Tumblr media
Just always be sure to wipe down and clean your dog's paws thoroughly with with a warm cloth when they come back inside. Sometimes salt and anti-freeze are put on sidewalks and driveways, which can cause chemical burns on your pet's paw pads or gastrointestinal issues if they try to lick it off.
Limit their time outdoors. Winter walks aren't always so magical. Know your dog's limits and shorten their walks if needed. If you can, reserve walks for the warmest parts of the day.
Tumblr media
Signs to tell if your dog is too cold: - Shaking, shivering, or trembling - Hunched posture with tail-tucking - Slowing down or reluctant to walk/move - Lifting their paws off the ground - Whining or barking - Ears and nose feel very cold to the touch Even if you decide to leave your dog in the car while you run an errand, it can still be dangerous if they are left for too long without any heat support when its below 30 degrees F outside. While cars can trap blazing temperatures in the summer and open risk for heatstroke, they can also trap freezing temperatures in the winter and open risk for hypothermia. Perhaps try to sit in your car without a jacket and see how long you can bare waiting in there without the heater on.
Tumblr media
Provide choices! Give your dog more options for comfortable sleeping places with varying levels of bedding and blankets, in case they need to change their location for more or less warmth.
Tumblr media
Set up cozy, wet-proof areas outdoors with heating lamps and wind barriers. Make sure kennels and igloos/houses are well-insulated and have enough space for them to walk in, turn around, and comfortably lay in.
youtube
Unless you have a healthy conditioned sled dog, I would not recommend letting them spend the night outdoors in the snow, without proper shelter and heat support. Watch how cold it can get in a simple dog house:
youtube
Serve warm food and water. At minimum, aim to make sure whatever they consume is at room temperature - but preferably just above their body temperature (101-103 F) when it's especially cold. Warming their food will also bring out their aroma and make it more enticing for them to eat. If feeding kibble/dry or dehydrated, you can mix in some warm bone broth. If it's canned/wet food, avoid microwaving for too long, as this can make the food too hot and potentially deplete its nutrients. Instead, try warming up your dog's wet food with this technique:
As for home-cooked/fresh food, the Balance It Canine Plus supplement not only makes your dog's complete and balanced, but is actually formulated to withstand reheating/microwaving. Our personal favorite! Below is a tutorial on how to utilize the Balance It system:
youtube
When selecting ingredients for your dog's food in the winter, consider including "warming" foods according to TCVM food energetics. Examples of these would be meats like lamb, goat, or venison, and vegetables and starches like sweet potatoes and oats. Traditional Chinese medicine teaches that hot/warm food nourishes the body by bringing heat which improves circulation. To support this theory, some studies have found that food associated with heat consists of compounds that are on average lower in molecular weight, yet higher in protein and fat - which contribute to energy production, and magnesium and potassium - which contribute to blood pressure and nerve function.(https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2666154320300247) Here is a list of some hot/warm commercial pet food and treats: - SideBySide Pet "Warming" - Dr. Judy Morgan's Fire Element Diet - Pet Tao "Blaze" Freeze Dried Raw Formula - JustFoodForDogs Venison & Squash Recipe - JustFoodForDogs Lamb & Rice Recipe
