Nearly 300 Rogers Communications workers have voted strongly in favour of a new contract, ending a company lockout that began two weeks ago.
The United Steelworkers union Local 1944, Unit 60, says in a statement that its members voted 96 per cent in favour of ratifying the tentative agreement reached last Friday.
The Rogers technicians, who build, maintain and repair internet, phone and television infrastructure and services in Metro Vancouver, were locked out Nov. 6, after serving strike notice and announcing plans for rotating strikes.

Best Buy Belleville Ontario is a high Pressure sales Operation.

Reactions to Rogers-Shaw deal mixed in Alberta
Reaction to the $26 billion Rogers-Shaw merger in Alberta was mixed on the day it was announced. Bob Schulz, a professor at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, called the merger a “win-win.” “It’s a blockbuster deal for Canada, but it could be the rising (rural telecommunications) star for the world in the developing countries that we actually test here,” Schulz said…

Moving Day W(h)ine
White wine has helped to soften the rough edges of moving from Edmonton, Alberta to Nanaimo, British Columbia. It was one heck of a two-day journey. Actually to be fair, the scenery was magnificent, and the vehicles (a U-Haul truck and my aging car) performed brilliantly. SnowbirdofParadise and son in Kamloops The trouble we had was entirely down to Rogers Communications. My son was driving the…

Steve: Tony, did you happen to hear my announcement?
Tony: I hang on every word.
Steve: I’m going to assume that’s sarcasm.
Tony: Correct.
Steve: So you didn’t hear my announcement?
Tony: I’m barely listening now.

hey. imagine your f/o finding fragments of their love for you around them.
they hear a lyric or two from a song they wouldn't usually listen to, but whatever is being said in it - it's exactly how they feel about you. they read a poem that doesn't impress them much otherwise, but there's this one line that speaks to them, reminds them of you or their relationship with you. maybe they overhear a stranger talking about their own love life and they say something that resonates. they totally relate to those famous romantic quotes from classic literature and poetry. you know the ones. even if they're a bit too sappy. maybe they see a beautiful sunset, come across an art piece, a meme, a diary entry, a classical song, an article, ANYTHING, and see their love for you in it.
even if they don't dare to say it to you, they get all soft when it happens. it is delightful when someone else has managed to capture that feeling!!

The federal government has approved the multibillion-dollar merger of telecom companies Rogers and Shaw, but with conditions that Ottawa insists will make the deal good for consumers. François-Philippe Champagne, minister of innovation, science and industry, said at a news conference Friday that the government has approved the transaction first proposed in 2021. As part of the deal, the vast majority of Shaw's wireless business, Freedom Mobile, will be sold to Quebec-based Videotron. While Freedom Mobile and its more than two million customers will move over to Videotron, Rogers will maintain a much smaller part of Shaw's wireless business, known as Shaw Mobile, which operates mostly in Alberta and B.C.

Roger Clark literally made a tiktok video saying how he hates AI, especially when people uses his voice without his consent. So please y’all, stop doing the “Arthur singing” ai bs. If you want that type of content, you can pay Roger to do a cameo for you. Support the actors because they are the ones who give our favorite characters life.

Alright, I've had enough.
If you guys are going to write dialogue involving Toby Rogers/rewrite in any way, I suggest going for a more complex representation of Tourette's Syndrome than just stuttering and twitching. It would give him more dimension as a human being in your stories.
Tourette's is a fluid kind of syndrome. The symptoms, tics, and severity can drastically change over time. Tics can be acquired and/or dropped over the span of months, and can worsen with stress. Tic attacks are also a thing that exists.
Some symptoms that you could depict:
Repeated and uncontrollable facial expressions. This could lead to him smiling, frowning, grimacing, etc. in inappropriate situations. It's rough.
Jerking of head or limbs (not twitching, full-on jerking.)
Compulsion to touch specific textures repeatedly
Throat clearing as a tic
Whistling as a tic
Tongue clicking
A tic could also be an animal sound like a hyena laugh or a bird call. Try to stay away from barking as a tic. My personal opinion, he lives in the woods and hears birds pretty much all day. Some of the sounds have stuck.
Compulsion to repeat phrases and words (echolalia.) This includes vulgar words and phrases, but doesn't always have to be. These can often inject themselves into the previous sentence; it can be both pretty annoying and sometimes funny, if the person with Tourette's humors about it.
If it's bad, a tic could be an action of self-harm, like slapping, pinching, or hitting an area of the body.
(This can also happen when someone cannot self-regulate intense emotions, which is something Toby tends to... not do.)
With Tourette's, one can develop OCD-like habits and often pairs with ADHD, anxiety and/or depression.
The acknowledgement of premonitory sensations could also help write Toby with a bit more depth. He has some warning before a tic hits; do with that as you will.
Suppressing tics is also a thing, and can lead to a tic attack later in the day if it gets bad. Tics can lead to muscle-cramping, joint pain, accidental self-harm, and pain in the face, eyes, and throat if the tics are worse in that area.
D-d-don't w-rite T-Toby like a b-blushing s-schoolgirl.
Something more vulgar could be like,
I have had-popop!-had lifelong, unmanaged genital herpes... uh, wait, no, Tourette's Syndrome. My bad. *laughs* Damn, that one was pretty bad.
Or the word could be completely irrelevant to what he's trying to convey, which could get frustrating with his short temper,
Hey, do you got a lemonhead? Sorry, I meant a l- lemonhead. No, fuck. Wait. I need a... a lemon-a lighter! Fucking hell, just give me a lighter, please.

I've been musing about it for a while, thanks to some posts I've read recently too, and honestly... one of the (many) fascinating aspects of zolu to me is the way they share parallels/connections and or similarities to important figures in OP's world. spoilers for the most recent arcs and reveals ahead!
perhaps the most blatant and one of my personal favorites, are luffy and zoro's similarities to roger and rayleigh. as OP's mc and someone who's on the road to become the pirate king, luffy's own similarities to roger have come up a lot throughout the story and they've been acknowledged or pointed out by other characters like shanks, rayleigh himself and yamato, for example. from the goofy parts of their personalities, to the strength of their wills, and their dreams, luffy and roger's parallels are consistent in OP,
Tumblr media
and as seen in rayleigh's brief memory of their first meeting, the straw hat luffy received from shanks was originally worn by roger back when he was young.
Tumblr media
albeit the circumstances are a little different - with them stumbling upon each other by chance vs luffy going out of his way to meet zoro after learning of his name and reputation - this first meeting is still reminiscent of zoro and luffy's, with both ray and zoro initially rejecting roger and luffy's invitations to join them in their journey.
Tumblr media
as for rayleigh and zoro, there's also a bunch of parallels between the two!
due to his previous time as a bounty hunter in the east blue, zoro made quite a name for himself and as OP progresses, his renown as the pirate hunter and the straw hats' swordsman is only second to luffy's. he was also the 2nd straw hat to get a bounty, and he's usually right behind luffy whenever their bounties go up. similarly, rayleigh was (and still is) considered a legend second to roger himself, strong enough that garp still views him as a powerful foe the marines can't easily defeat and managed to scare blackbeard away from amazon lily without an actual fight, despite the latter's strength.
there's other stuff too: the eye scars, both zoro and ray being greatly skilled swordsmen, their love for booze, being users of all three types of haki and even their epithets! from what I've read from other OP fans in discussion threads and through some internet search, rayleigh's title of "dark king" in jp is actually the name or word for pluto (the god of the underworld, roman mythology's equivalent to hades) in said language. in comparison, "enma", the name of zoro's most recently acquired sword and the "king of hell" title that he claimed after defeating king in wano, are a direct reference to the buddhist deity of the same name in jp mythology, also known as yama - a god of the underworld in charge of judging souls.
from the most recent flashbacks of the god valley incident, too, you can see the physical resemblance between these duos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(as a bit of a side note, I think it was nice that rayleigh not only took it upon himself to mentor luffy, he was also the one who protected zoro from kizaru in sabaody and after the timeskip, during the straw hats' reunion in the archipelago and as they bid their farewells, zoro went out of his way to thank him for everything too.)
all in all, considering how close roger and rayleigh were (to the point roger called him "partner"), their strength, reputation and their overall journey with the roger pirates crew - the fact that luffy and zoro share more than a few clear similarities/parallels to them is really good imo, and it speaks both of the importance of their relationship and of the kind of figures they're bound to become, or are already becoming, in OP's world and ongoing history.
although it'd be sweet to have zoro and luffy directly refer to each other as partners as well (which kid and killer, another captain/first mate duo, have done too) I'm not sure it'll happen, if only for the sake of keeping the relationships between luffy and the crew balanced, so to say. still, like I said, knowing how close luffy and zoro are and that they share parallels with other captains/first mates, I think that says a lot about them regardless and the importance they hold for each other and the story as a whole.
another interesting resemblance between zolu and characters who are connected to one another involves, of course, shanks and mihawk - both of which are not only acquainted with each other, as rivals and friends of sorts, but also served as luffy and zoro's mentors/guides at different points of their lives and presently stand as their eventual foes to face in order to reach their goals of becoming the pirate king and world's greatest swordsman.
aaand last but not least, because it's yet another favorite of mine: joy boy/nika and shimotsuki ryuma. I sort of talked about it in another post, and I find it pretty cool. nika and ryuma come from different eras and don't exactly have much to do with one another but luffy's DF awakening and defeating kaido led to "joy boy" (since luffy refused to take credit for it directly by name) being hailed as a hero to wano that's comparable and only rivaled by ryuma, who in the past defended the country and was considered a legendary swordsman, whose sword shusui (that zoro wielded for a while) is a national treasure even.
since the hito hito no mi: model nika is a mythical zoan and vegapunk's speculated that devil fruits come into existence as manifestations of hope and wishes (or a potential for human evolution someone's desired), among other things, nika's existence as an actual god is kind of a subject of current debate in the fandom BUT. the fact remains that whether real or myth, he's still mentioned in old texts and his story has been shared among those enslaved by the WG, as a call for hope and freedom. in addition, even though he was human, ryuma also became revered as a savior figure and a sword god by the folks of wano.
so when you have luffy embodying the sun god of joy and liberation,
Tumblr media
and it turns out zoro is none other than a descendant of the shimotsuki (frost moon) family, who resembles the former daimyo of ringo and the god of the blade ryuma,
Tumblr media
well. those are some crazy parallels luffy and zoro share outside of their equally kinda crazy and meaningful relationship, as individuals and crew.

Love (cannot emphasis how much sarcasm there is in that word) that an official Canadian government response to high cellphone rates is to switch carriers.
Switch it to what? We basically have three companies since one was allowed to eat the forth (with the government saying it wasn't anti-competition and the company eating the other pinky promising they wouldn't jack rates up). Even the smaller companies have to rent infrastructure from the Big Three so there's only so much they can do if that rent costs an arm and a leg.
And that's not touching on how many "small companies" are actually just subsidiaries of the Big Three. You may save $5 but you're still with Telus/Rogers/Bell.
Or that the actual small companies tend to have shit coverage because they don't have the infrastructure available to them and are prevented from getting it. Or their traffic is throttled in favour of the Big Three's customers. Or both.
Or that they're extremely regional thus aren't an option for a huge chunk of Canada's population.
We have no true options and the government has shown time and again that they're fine with monopolies, in multiple industries, and don't care when said monopolies jack up prices to make shareholders and the c-suite more money at the expense of everyone else. At most there will be a verbal slap on the wrist and a giftcard for $25 that people have to register for, for a decade and a half of price gouging.
It's not talked a whole lot about outside the country from what I've seen and heard but Canada is a country of monopolies. A handful of companies own nearly everything, every province has a family or two that owns a hell of a lot (Nova Scotia is basically owned by one family at this point), and our government ignores it. Even the branch that is supposed to be against monopolies is fine with mergers and takeovers in most cases.
Because, you know, the company said it totally wouldn't use consumers' lack of options to increase prices.
#canada#so much of our infrastructure and critical construction such as housing#has been pawned off for decades to private companies#and i forgot to mention one (1) family owns the bridge that is a major international corridor between canada and the us#which is apparently fine even though they fought tooth and nail to stop a bridge they don't own from being built#like our housing crisis can be traced back to the government deciding to stop building public housing in the 90s#because they figured private developers would pick up the slack#affordable apartments don't bring in much money so we got decades of cheap-ass 'luxury condos' instead#and once airbnb became a thing we got entire buildings with units <300sqft#and of course when the party in charge rotates between conservatives and neolibs nothing changes and that can gets kicked down the road#and keeps getting kicked until something collapses and they see the chance to fully privatize an industry#something similar is happening to our healthcare system too#it has been left to languish for years/decades with funding freezes and cuts#and private companies are quick to jump in and get the government stamp of approval to do [thing] that the public system clearly can't do#when [thing] would absolutely be possible if it was actually funded and/or staffed#so many communities were cut off when greyhound closed up shop because there's no government inter-city transportation#we lost internet/banking/cell service/etc nation-wide because one of the big three decided to push an update to live without redundancies#and it bugged and took the entire company's network down#even the government agency that demands major companies have a backup on a different network was taken down because they ignored that#and they got a deal if they kept their backup with rogers while their main network was also rogers#so they couldn't even make an emergency statement or anything about it#half my province also lost all digital infrastructure because it's a private company and making a redundancy line would mean smaller bonuse#it's just so bad#joke all you want about how canada is nice and friendly#but you are wrong and it's hell if you actually live here#the only reason canada is seen as nice is because it's hard to not seem like the better option when the us is your neighbour#and because of decades of pr work to make canada seem friendly and nice and not at all problematic#in some countries you actually have to try to hide you're canadian because of how much we colonize and the damage we do to other countries#yes these tags have derailed from the post but ugh#i take major issue with people who insist canada is nice and has never done anything wrong
